Here we are, Monday once again, and the Le Mans weekend is over. It wasn't the result I was hoping for, naturally, but it was still a good race, and a really fun thing to experience with all our Sidepodfriends (coined by Jeremy). Here are some of the things we're talking about:
- Wurz won the race in Le Mans over the weekend, with my team of Franck and Bourdais coming in a close second. They led a lot of the way but couldn't make it stick through to the end. Still, even though Franck looked miserable afterwards, he must be happy to have help stop the Audi run of victories.
- Despite the fact they haven't managed to get on the entry list for 2010 as yet, Lola still aren't quitting their F1 dreams just yet. The boss says the decision will be made on Tuesday, which seems odd to me. Either you're going to wait for the next Max deadline, or you're going to pull out now. What's so special about Tuesday?
- Finally, anyone using the Safari web browser may spot an addition to the Live Commenting Live... Thing - a checkbox to activate an alert when new comments come in. At the moment, it defaults to on, which means you'll hear a maraca sound each time there are new comments. We will default it to off, but are just going through the motions of testing it out at the moment. Let us know what you think.
That'll do it for now. Monday means back to work which means we're already on the road to Silverstone, not literally of course. Let us know if you are making preparations for the big trip though, and we'll listen jealously. I'll see you in the comments.
Still think it sounds like scissors but I like it
Very quiet tonight... I've been popping in and out during revision and both here and Twitter are practically dead. Recuperating from Le Mans, I think!
I can't even hear it.
Can't see the checkbox either, for that matter... although I have found the new Navigation section at the bottom, I like that.
OK, all questions for Fernando and Nelson, please post them here:
http://zerodownforce.blogspot.com/2009/06/question-time.html
I look forward to seeing what you guys can come up with ;)
When I first heard it I thought it sounded like a beer being opened, mmmm beer.
Oh and it's also a possibility that I might get to meet Anthony Davidson and David Coulthard too, so any questions for them would be welcome also :)
Top Right Hand corner, below refresh comments
Well, you know how it is, Renault F1 and all that... ;)
Excellent :-)
I'm not really the 'askey questions' type, will have a think during the week
Not there..
Are you using IE by any chance?
FF 3.0.11
Hmm
[tests]
Looks like it's a Safari thing at the moment
If they announce on Tuesday that they are canning their F1 program it weakens Max's hand. I assume the statement is the first stage in negotiating the first available slot.
Righto. Perhaps when they see this the Daily post could be updated to reflect that because others may expect to see something that's not there (even though it is only in testing stage).
Must say though, congrats on the Daily appearing at 12:01am, I think that's the earliest I've ever seen it :-)
Good to see I've got my first question from Bassano. Thanks. :)
Heading off. Catch you tomorrow, for a short while.
Night Pat
Night Pat
Automated post?
Yeah I was gonna ask that. Always seems to be at 12:01am. Do you write it beforehand and then just set it to autopost at that time every day?
They could have been replaced by robots and we would never know...
Well, until Sunday anyway
Or if Mr C started capitalising in his posts
the conspiracy grows: They could be using recycled soundbites from old shows rearranged to sound like new content, and do the same with the video
dododododododododoo!
fixed now. apologies.
i think christine schedules it for that time every day. but the wordpress in built timer is shonky, meaning it appears any time around that period.
we did upgrade to the latest version of WP last week though, so maybe they fixed something?
i wish we had been. have a really busy week ahead work wise, so may hardly be around before fp1 on friday.
with any luck we'll miss the new fia deadline too.
morning all. Feeling suprisingly awake today and work is going quickly. Only 5 hours til home time!
is that because you didn't stay up until daybreak watching a panel this week?
Doesn't sound very appropriate here
i went to bed at 4am so live shows would have made no difference :D
already gone ;)
you scare me :)
i think i am decreasing my life span. Aiming for an early night tonight, i may leave the laptop out of my bedroom
Amy are you like me, get to Real-Time at work?
Is anyone awake out there, jeez, you'd think that everyone spent 24hours watching a race or something
hehe. hey joe. am still here, how are ya?
Doing good, listening to Windtunnel, a racing talk show on Speed TV. It seems the NASCAR boys are p***** at each other again, blah, blah, blah.
But I was proud to hear the Star Spangled Banner played at Le Mans. Hope to hear it at an F1 podium in the next few years.
what are they upset about?
Kyle Busch said something about how Dale Jr.'s fans are crazy and he smashed a guitar that was a trophy for winning a race. Busch is very polarizing.
yikes!
i've only caught a couple of windtunnels, but dave seems like a good chap.
He is a good dude. He also does a 20 min segment on our local sports-talk radio show on fridays. I plan my day around those 20 minutes. The local radio guys actually ask him about F1, quite odd for around here.
now that is something i would listen to as a podcast. there's nowhere to download it is there?
No, you'd have to wade through 4 hours of baseball, football (the real football), basketball to get to Dave, so it wouldn't be worth it. There is a Windtunnel podcast, but it's only a 5-10 min. segment
yeah, that's how i've caught his previous work.
If you don't get SpeedTV, there's an additional 30 min on SpeedTV.com, which is what I'm listening to now, well, it's over now
nice one. is there no replay?
I'm not sure, I'll check back on the site tommorrow and tell you.
cheers. tis probs for the best, i should be working anyhow :)
well, they won't have info up about a replay until later in the day and I've got about 26 minutes till I hit the rack.
working? At 3.30am? Mr C, you scare me!
hehe. like i said, busy week.
Is this really work?
am multitasking. sidepodcast is purely a hobby.
You're Mr. C? I must say the last podcast where Lukeh came out with F11, "It goes to eleven", had me laughing outloud
i am. that were me giggling :)
the thought of it is still making me laugh now!
I had to go to youtube and watch that clip from Spinal Tap. Lukeh set that up perfectly and we all walked right into the trap
Just found out, you can go to itunes and download full podcasts of Windtunnel with Dave Depain, plus the 30 minutes after the show.
that's gonna hurt my productivity!
i'll look now, ta.
Call it research. Talk to you later. Out here
night sir.
Nobody had used Sidepodfriends before? Wow. It reminds me of Super Friends which makes me think of Super Happy Sidepodtime. Which is tomorrow if a certain man has remembered a certain occasion. I don't mean (capital M) Me. Cryptic enough for you?
Yes
Hey everyone Good morning
Someone has written Andy Murray a song. Not as good as the Heikki song though.
im very confused
It's fair to say that Mr C is likely to be in trouble tomorrow. Which won't make a change, really.
Nope :D
ooh I know what the answer is!
booo, i have no idea. i thought i did, but i know that i'm wrong
whats mr c done?
Nothing yet.
right?
What exactly is superhappy sidepodtime?
exactly
That's just my crappy humour. It's a play on Japanese/English translation where the Japanese name things with Super or Happy on the front.
now i'm even more confused!! I shall just have to wait for tomorrow for Mr C to stitch himself up
It may or may not have something to do with a Milky Bar.
does this have something to do with bribing Christine?
Fota having ANOTHER meeting today in healthrow
Sorry Jon, it's a very important day tomorrow but I'm under nda (non disclosure assumption). I predict multiple mentions of milky bar.
gutted. ;)
Why whats happening tomorrow
we have no idea!
have just deleted the incorrect top gear start date comment. am thinking if we remove comments that 100% incorrect it may encourage peeps to check facts more.
thoughts?
true
sorry about that It was sent to my on facebook, Mr C do you and Christine have facebook or is there a Sidepodcast user/group
I predict cake
i haven't forgotten!!
search Sidepodcast, theres a group
Today you haven't ;)
not singling you out chris. happens a lot.
am just thinking if we know something to be absolutely incorrect, it seems reasonable to remove it.
however, there's also an argument for simply printing a correction.
in fairness, jeremy reminded me.
set the wiki as your home page ;)
Agreed. You're in charge, run it your way. I wonder how many times the word 'transparency' will appear if this is discussed further. :P
:P
I think it really depends on the conversation it sparks afterwards. If it is a simple - this is happening, no it's not. Fine.
If it becomes a topic, maybe not.
Jeremy, looks like you've got a job for tomorrow as well :)
I'm helping! :D
oooooh, i've got it now
*Whistles like nothings happened(*
there is that i guess.
it also occurred to me that if someone googled "when does top gear start", this conversation might appear in the search results with the incorrect date. it would then be up to the person reading to check all subsequent comments for corrections.
milky bar?
don't screw it up ;)
hmm. good point. we give it some more thought.
No. I think just delete it once you're sure it's wrong and explain the reason why. Firm but fair.
Woah, what's going on here?
Are these stories you're interested in, Chris? Because we prefer people to discuss the stories and their take on them, give a bit of opinion, rather than just spam us with headlines.
I hope someone does give Giorgio 'Pants' Pantano a go in F1
Agreed, if it was just missing, that might cause some confusion
Hello folks
He was in it before, wasn't he? I remember a cake when he left.
I want them too just so he'll stop moaning :D
Actually, I think I'm thinking of someone else, but was he any good in F1 before?
But will they be able to pronounce his name properly yet? :)
I heard he was complaining that nobody from an F1 team called after he won the GP2 championship.
If theres not a cake in Silverstone I might panic. I didn't see one in Turkey.
Didn't fair too well in Jordan back in 2004. Wasn't their finest hour, to be fair
Replaced by Timo Glock
yikes, we're having a good day today. the delete button is on fire this morning.
Oh man, Radio Le Mans have added their whole Le Mans coverage to iTunes! I haven't finished last years yet, i feel some sleepless nights coming on..
yippee. gotta find those shoutouts later.
I found my favourite bit from last year....
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/sorrytointeruptmyself-mp3
hehehe. i remember that too!
that bit made my whoooole weekend
Have you got URL for the subscription feed? Never have been able to access the iTunes store to do a search.
how do you survive in a world without an itunes store?
Must be a quiet place
however much i dont like apple ;) itunes podcast store is just :D
Its a bit frustrating - we even have a store now in SA but whwn visiting it just crashes iTunes (the case in both Wiindows and Macs)
http://www.radiolemans.com/
click on Le Mans 24 hours
then on the right hand side they have all the podcasts
Morning all!
I survive. Itunes almost destroyed my computer 6 years or so ago, and its not coming back!
but what about all those lovely tv programs and films and music and podcasts and... well... everything really?
Something called a 'record shop'
he lives in a happy place called 'i have more un-spent money than you'
its only useful for podcasts, i buy music off Amazon aswell
OUTSIDE?
What's a record?
you went outside yesterday ;)
and Online. :D
carbon fibre looking laser disc?
Well there is Hulu and iplayer for tv shows, and blockbuster for films. & i'm pretty 'meh' about music :D
Something Roy Castle and Norris McWhirter used to get involved in
a what now?
A massive DVD that had to be flipped over :D
ooh i have a laser disk player somewhere! i miss them!
An actual thing? Ooh *shudders* think of the clutter.
Still have mine and use it.... Best version of Star Wars original trilogy is only on the LD. :D
in the middle of star wars. common sense went walkabouts at philips r&d that day.
Thanks Jon
You guess it - I buy CDs!
"Laserdisc was the prevalent rental video medium in Hong Kong during the 1990s."
Searches for 'gob, aghast' smiley
hehe.
I use iTunes for subscriptions - but as I am now using Linux (even more than OS X) I have discovered gPodder as a very good alternative!
Was used a lot in Karaoke too
Well, that's never to be encouraged
f1wolf has pulled together a monday morning quiz for y'all.
Not sure - I have rather little unspent money!
Oh yea, those things were all over place when I moved to Hong Kong. Size of the old LP vinyl record but it played movies :-)
thanks for the plug, I am away from my base, enroute for the F1 weekend :-)
have a good one sir!
Didn't realise they used analogue video. No widescreen either
should be good one, managed to get passes to paddock club for Fri and Sat :-)
Wow. I am really bad at quizzes.
1/10. I. Am. Awesome.
Surprised myself with 7
Ooh, okay. I am better than Amy at quizzes :)
theres a reason I sleep when the PF one is on ;)
Have noticed that FIA has been getting into even more trouble with the teams.
During the Turkish GP - Donnelly was going around from team to team telling them to abandon the FOTA stance and sign up for 2010. Very inappropriate if true.
Source: http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/
Also the way N Technology's submission was handled...
Source: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76220
The Donelly thing was mentioned yesterday
I still don't know how Max gets away with it
3/10 for moi. That beats Statistics revision, although i'll do better in that quiz than i will in my Stats exam. boo ya
It's either all going to go well, and everyones going to be happy, or its all going to hit the fan.
I know which one i'm voting for.
Sorry for repeating - It is just so unprofessional. I think FIA has under-estimated the resolve of the teams this time. But that megalomaniac Max has now lost his marbles- he needs to retire before more damage is done.
love this post from fourstar.
7/10
i didnt have a clue, im lucky
Me too... Have commented.
I will vote for anything that sees Max retire!
I am not signing up to comment but clearly it is always best to be first to choose a chocolate from a box of Roses or Milk Tray :D
First person to say #maxout will get a swift kick from me ;)
yay!
Sending nuts and bolts sounded like waaay more fun than a twitter campaign
Hear, hear!
Hopefully FOTA will not get outmaxed!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8097368.stm
Yeeeeey :D
RIght i'm off for a day or so, got some corporate hospitality to enjoy which is always nice, but i will miss the cricket tonight, which has put me in 2 minds about the whole thing... grrrr
I was at the recording. ;)
no way!!!
Theatre in London for both the Stephen Fry shows.
Just wanted to share something I heard on the radio this morning:
"Today the Le Mans 24 hour race was won by Australia's David Brabham, son of the great Jack Brabham.
.....and two french team members. Just like his brother Geoff."
Gah, sometimes I am embarased to be Australian in Australia.
Now, isn't there some cricket I can watch???
Sometimes being non-Australian in Australia makes me embarrassed for the Australiana ;)
:D
WooHoo! 2/10 in the quiz
Uh oh...
Or... at least their take on the dealings...
I could see the South African press making the same sort of nationalistic mistakes.
Funny they seem to get the rugby scores right. and the teams
Righhhhttt,
I've got to go off and get ready to go out, yeeyyy exams :( boo
Have a fun afternoon, shall speak to y'all later.
Enjoy. :D
I'm planning what to do for a bit of fun tomorrow
We may not have may commens left ;)
I am a Lama
Larry the Lama?
Go to nearest nut and bolt shop...
thats all im saying
Ooooh... Duxford.
Afternoon all
i haven't thought this through.
howdy. how is flabbergash this afternoon?
Not bad pal - I just had a Rocky Road from Greggs, think I can feel my heart slowing down...
aha. the montoya diet.
it's not the best thing when you're trying to work, a seizure might put me out for a while
Maybe you should go and "play some tennis"?
Max is great
Does google index these comments?
Afternoon Sidepodfriends, I'm after your thoughts on taking pictures at Silverstone.
I will be going on the less chaotic Friday this year with the other-half who likes to take pictures of fast things. Just wondering what was the general consensus for the ideal places for taking snaps were?
Thinking around Club, Farm or Woodcote? Preferably no where that has a whacking great big fence directly in front, so up on embankments or in any of the grandstands should be good?
yup.
:P
would this be with the free ticket from the chap you were hoping for? and if so, should we watch out for you running naked down the main straight??
Note to self #4!
No. Someone within the team more-or-less suggested he'd get me a ticket... and I never heard from him again.
And the Email I received from Red Bull last week asking for my 'direct emailing address' and asking if I was going to Silverstone was a master-class in not getting your hopes up.
He wanted my email address and advised me about a promotion they're doing this weekend. Deflated? A bit!
So we've had to fork out for our own tickets at £50 for Friday.
Around Woodwiss?
ahh, bugger.
vale and club (and maybe abbey) offer pretty good spots. but they're not covered. friday is a free-for-all though, so first come, best seat.
It's surprising that "first come, best seat" hasn't caught on as a phrase ;)
new subtitle?
Hello, everyone.
Wolf's quiz! Woohoo! Got an 8 - no idea how many times Senna was on pole there, and made a booboo on which team won the British GP the most. :D
Will just be dropping in and out - am keeping an eye on the Iran situation.
BTW, Turkey race edit is up:
http://www.formula1.com/video/race_edits.html
thinking is over-rated :-)
Please run SPC in a way that you'll never get sick of doing it. Don't worry about who you upset, they'll get over it.
Zoe hasn't seen Karate Kid. Supernatural just had a reference to Mr. Miyagi and she had no idea. :-(
A local website has reported that Coca Cola may become a sponsor in F1 - I wonder which team it would like to associate itself with?
http://www.wheels24.co.za/Content/FormulaOne/14/306e2f92c6fe4d7ea8a84634b05d89d0/15-06-2009 11-06/Coca-Cola_to_sponsor_F1
Come on now, you know Sidepodpanda would be just as good.
Grrrrr. Completly forgot supernatural and spooks tonight.
worst segway ever ahead:
I registered iphonef1.com the other day. Interestingly, iphonef1.net was taken, or I wasn't allowed to have it.
I remember these! They were all the fad - until Betamax came along...
That is one crazy domian!
Off the top of my head, I'd guess USF1 - the ultimate American brand (other than McDonalds, anyway) partnering with the ultimate F1 team.
But I'm sure a lot of the teams would chase Coca-Cola down.
Look who's talking! :-)
And funnily enough, bought through www.crazydomains.com.au!
ultimate American F1 team, rather. :)
If only I could convince Apple to spend some it's $30+ Billion on Formula 1 related activities.
Makes sense from a point of national support, but would a team that could win races not be better? One thought would be to pick up a Red Bull team which might end up being on the market later in the year.
It will have the most stylish motorhome for sure.
That was my very poor joke.
Aah. Past my bedtime! I will do something with it soon, I promise!
Laser cut from a single block of aluminium? :P
Hows things in the f1 world today
The Unibody motorhome
With trendy minimalistic white plastic interiors
Until next time, I bid you all Adieu
Ikea?
They could sponsor Kubes - being the flat-pack specialists and judging how he wanted to flatten the Toyota of Trulli earlier this year.
Hello
Apparantly there is lightining coming north. Ooh.
Least it wasn't yesterday. So hows stuff? Seems scarily quiet around here.
Stuff is good. How's stuff with you?
i am knackered. i think le mans tried to kill me. you?
Stuff is going well apart from gifting everyone a catch in cricket.
Another one not being my fault ;)
annoyingly, you're free from blame.
however, it were steven who suggest we follow sportscar racing...
Ah ha!
The Rotter
Uh oh. I've just seen some lightining
don't worry, it won't kill y.. actually... ruuuuun!
Stay indoors, watch the show
Lightning is cool, get some pics if you can (away from the windows)
Annoyingly, its none of that spectacular fork stuff. Italy was good for that.
autosport finally noticed there's an f1 iphone application available. apparently bernie says he's:
"very excited by this application as it will allow fans to keep in touch with what is going on whilst on the move."
yeah right.
He has heard of the word 'fans'??
i think he probably has to spit on the ground each time the phrase comes up though.
:D
He obviously means iPhone fans ;)
Christine can you accept me on skype
Will do next time I'm in there. I don't log in to the Sidepodcast account every single day.
ok thanks
Are you on it during a race weekend and live shows
Only if we're taking calls during a show, otherwise it is open for voicemails any time.
I camped at a wealthy friends house which has cable TV and watched most of it - must admit to having a snooze this afternoon though. Not quite as good as last year.
it would struggle to top last year's. although the first hour tried.
At 5 quid a race for those owning iPhones - yes he has heard of Fans well their money at least!
has that price been confirmed though?
To Bernie, they are not fans but "wallet holders"
Last year was exciting - some of the best racing I have seen - have to admit this year I did swap channel to see the Moto GP dual between Rossi and Lorenzo - that was awesome!
I think it is $8 and you buy for each race (that was what a local site seem to think!
I guess we'll find out after Silverstone
am still thinking it'll be with the release of 3.0 on wednesday.
Ah, "in-app purchasing"
yeah. no-one in "the know" appears to have any idea. therefore i'm assuming the issue is technical, rather than commercial.
my guess is a £2 update per race. but that's based on nothing whatsoever.
Afternoon/evening.
eh-oh.
Ta for updating the Daily. I like how you included a link to get Safari :-)
shhh. christine may not have noticed!
Much going on today?
Isn't that from the Teletubbies? ;)
Personally, I'm waiting for Firefox 3.5. I've never got on with Safari
It is on their RSS feed which I think I found somewhere on the website.
I seem to manage alright.
Well I did well on the quotes there didn't I
It's in beta isn't it, have you tried it?
without getting too geeky. i am surprised just how much i love safari. i haven't been this excited about a browser since netscape 2 introduced animated gifs.
ff 3.5 will be an improvement, but will mozilla ever release it? it was promised at the end of may. they have more missed deadlines than the fia.
or nasa. ;) ff will come out in due course - maybe by end of june?
fixed.
Mr C, did you catch the comments over the weekend about using FBFB to display the date/time of next live show?
not the full public-ready release. they have even got to release candidate have they?
I didn't expect that, thanks :-)
erm, no. tis a good idea though.
christine was playing with FBFB behind the scenes during le mans, but it needs more work.
true - i think they're still in beta - beta 3 is it? or something like that.
When's Chrome for the mac due? They looked pretty close
ages away i'd imagine. youtube doesn't work.
Updates here
See the following link
http://www.labnol.org/software/download-google-chrome-for-mac-linux/4555/
am more interested in the native version from google though.
"Updates delayed due to WWDC, come back next week. :-)"
hehe!
Of course not built on windows libraries.
aside from not being available on linux, safari is ahead of the competition. it could be many months before the rest catch up.
Obviously I have to try it - I like Firefox then Opera. I never quite took to Google Chrome (I found it crashed rather a lot!)
Bernie thinks all the conflit in f1 is about power not the rules or money
I might be tempted to test out Safari in a less busy time.. say Friday..
Realised I need to update by OS - so have to wait.
how come?
Your getting to meet and question Fernando! *is jealous*
What kind? :D
I have a chocolate cake.
Had to bake my own birthday cake!
Bandwidth is expensive in SA so you need to make sure you download at times when there is not much traffic - (OSX update is about 750 MB). I tried the Windows version - coverflow seems to work really well.
Today?
Happy Burpday fella!
Tomorrow.
Share it with a very special person. ;)
F1 news.
The founder of the defunct Simtek F1 team, Nick Wirth is, with his company, designing and building the car for Manor Grand Prix. Linky
Will Manor own the IP though? They need to in order to be a legal entry.
Oh, and I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue has now started on Radio 4.
Yay for Stephen Fry! Gonna miss Humph though...
They build a tidy LMP car.
Happy birthday to everyone, in case I forget.
Happy Birthday
Nick is a friend and ex business partner of Max - so no surprise there!
That's where Dave Richards has been going wrong then, schmoozing with the wrong overlords
Good Afternoon/ evening!
How is everyone? had a good day?
you get to meet Fernando, Anthony Davidson, and DC! (oh and Nelson). I'm so jealous! sounds like you're going to have an amazing day :)
I had lightning, survived the scare.
Hey Lou, I really liked your new pics and the pesky, moving Clown Fish :)
Glad to hear it, were you counting the gaps between lightning & thunder?
Erm, no.
Tis a way of establishing if storm is getting nearer or further away?
Have you not seen Poltergeist?
Evening all
Spoke to Tim from Puma again this afternoon on my lunch break. Still sorting out the travel arrangements, looks like a train down to Northampton and then pick up to Silverstone. I should meet Alonso and Piquet after free practice.
Also told me they're going to send me some Puma gear for the weekend, through the post! :d
We expect photos!
we have bright blue skies, yet i can hear thunder... it's kinda strange :)
thank you :) omg that damn clown fish!
hehe i used to do that :D
Many photos :D
Photos you shall get! :D
They're giving me a video camera and digital camera to document my weekend for the report, and one thing they want me to do on Sunday before the race is interview fans!
I'm gonna take my laptop for the weekend as well and hopefully be able to upload photos from my iPhone and such onto Facebook and drop.io if possible.
kool
who else is going to silverstone then
That sounds fantastic.
iPhone/iPod Touch App Map Quest looks like a decent (& free) alternative to Google Maps. Saves route directions too
[Am amassing free apps before hardware!]
FM3 related:
On RaceDepartment, there's a post here about a guy who apparently works at Turn10 and has revealed what looks to be quite a bit of info!
http://forum.racedepartment.com/forza-motorsport-3/19293-wip-forza-motorsport-3-car-track-list.html#post331640
Here's an interesting quote from that large list of info:
Crikey! You don't get this with Gran Turismo...
Been offered a pit pass for this weekend as a birthday present from an ex-workmate.
Call me mad, but I've turned it down.
Going to try to get one for Spa instead. :D
Evening guys, hope all are well.
sidepodspace update
The next attempt to launch the space shuttle Endeavour will be June 17th at 5:40am EDT or 10:40 am UK.
What happened to the 1 minute? Not 5:41?
You ARE mad!!!
Spa does sound rather good though.
evening Lukeh, how was work?
Does anyone want me to get any pics in particular from Silverstone?
O.O wha?...
oooh.. that kinda makes sense... :)
they know they wont be precise, they know they'll be late.
howdy all.
i just set fire to some Statistics work. oooh it felt good
I was going to call you mad but given the choice of Silverstone or Spa I would choose Spa.
I spent my first 5 hours dealing with ignorant, impatient, ungrateful home delivery customers in an 11 hour shift. I think, for the sake of not liking saying nasty things, it's there I end this story ;)
But it has been a looooooooooooong. day. My back has actually morphed into sandpaper. *lies down*
well...Jenson and anything Brawn GP will do me nicely :P :D
Do I blame ya, no.
Hey Lukeh
I'll see if I can do the pitwalk at some point, hopefully whatever pass I have will get me some good pics and autographs ;)
But they always seem to schedul things with a single minute at the end to the point that Christine has developed a complex about it. She threatened to schedule live shows for 7:01 in future and this thread went up at 12:01
Timo, lots and lots of Timo. Preferably not in car, also with none of his girlfriend either.
sidepodspace other update
For anyone interested in the LCROSS launch NASA put out the following statement. I guess no-one including me will be remotely interested in this mission until it returns someinteresting data.
Is there going to be a F1 minute today?
That is a fabulous description Jeremy
I failed miserably. I am so ashamed
Yep, I'm working on it.
ok thanks
Still no weather? :(
Interesting to see so much nfo though, if true. Very disappointing to have no weather or day and night astuff though.
Sounds like Iran is about to have some kind of revolution
Search #iranelection
It's going to be baaaadddd
Timo and Toyota - there are at least two fans!
I agree - BUT are just perhaps a little bit jealous!
While it is my job to accept the blame for things round here I have a feeling that Christine may have been fairly keen that we watch some sportscar races.
Well, it's long overdue but will it work?
Don't know if it will work but it will be bloody. Seems it is already
Boston Big picture on the Iran situation
http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/06/irans_disputed_election.html
Please FIA and FOTA can we to have races like the MotoGP - team mates racing each other without team orders to the finish and a crowd that supports both riders, even if one is a native of the circuit.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/rossi-lorenzo-final-laps-2009-flv
wow
just wow
was just going to post that.
that really is a fantastic piece.
The first I heard of anything other than the election result was on the TWiT podcast
I tweeted the Boston link to Stephen Fry so he can circulate it
good plan.
amazingly the bbc have something similar, but it doesn't carry the gravity of the situation half as well.
Makes it look like a few people rather than a major uprising
Here is some more info from the New York Times.
http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/06/15/mondays-updates-on-irans-disputed-election/
Unbelievable pics Steven, thanks.
I don't know if it worked because you had a space between the @ and his name.
Just found a very interesting twitter app http://twitterfall.com/
No iphones were involved in this app
Thanks Pat. I will resend
ouch, just watched the turkey video. lewis sounds really fed up with his race pace.
also interesting that jenson says "you have built me a monster of a car".
official f1.com turkey review video, that is.
have to admit... I noticed that as soon as he said it on the radio. Don't think it's worth reading much into though personally
Now all we need is Franck signing up for Bathurst...
I agree, spur of the moment stuff I reckon considering he's won those races.
Blimey!
I can't keep up with a freakin' Reanult!
i wasn't thinking of jenson vs. rubens. am thinking it sounds very me vs. you. e.g. you build the car, but i'm the star in it.
let's flip it 180 for a second. what would you say if lewis had come on the radio with the same quote?
So nobody hears that as they built it for SPC and Jenson is sending out a somewhat cryptic thank you? :P
:)
I was thinking earlier about the FIA nuts thing, then felt a need to right #maxsnuts in a twitter post...
but quickly realised that would be a bad idea
good point I suppose, there's be a bit more of a self centered response of him saying it. Although i still hear his radios in just sheer excitement of winning because he seems to genuinely take everyone one like a first win. I am biased though so.. ;)
Also, about lewis' radio, i honestly thought for a moment he was going to say he can't even catch up to Piquet. heh.
er....
tbh i wouldn't think anything of it... he was just happy that the car is so good. He is the one driving it, of course he would say 'me'.... the whole team isn't driving the car....
Iran on BBC1 news now.
Iran religious leader to investigate rigged election
i kinda disagree. i think if lewis had said it, he'd have been ripped to shreds... twice for good measure.
i also think jb is getting a touch big for his racing boots. but we'll see.
maybe... also someone mentioned to me at school that Jenson was really rude in an interview recently and afterwards had to apologise... that was the first i've heard of it though. was it true?
that was jenson last year, bet you werent laughing then ;)
Perhaps the radio gremlins added the "me" just like they removed the "a" from "that's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind"?
News to me
same here.
okay. i was worried i missed something, i've done some digging and can't find anything, they just used it in a discussion about why Jenson is apparently rubbish and i was kinda shocked and wondered if anyone else knew. lol :)
his radio message caught me off guard. coulda been heat of the moment stuff, might be a precursor to contract negotiations. time will tell no doubt.
but Lewis always uses the royal we!
It is still out of character - Jenson being rude!
adrenaline? or success going to his head?
Hamilton to Renault? Alonso to Ferrari and Raikkonen to McLaren.
I have 2010 sorted out.
i've missed a trick here. what in the world is lebol up to?
http://formulaonefansassociation.blogspot.com/
he said "you've built me one monster of a car" right??
i think he meant "you (i.e my engineers who did put the car together) have built a good car" not "you (i.e the team as a whole) have designed and built a car especially for me"
FOFA, you missed it, twas early morning last Saturday.
tbh i didn't think anything of it other than the fact he was really emotional and happy, and seeing him with tears in his eyes on the podium/ in interviews kinda confirmed to me that he was just overwhelmed. However i'm biased but you're right only time will tell.
Agreed
i like it!
fair enough. and in a heartbeat he's disowned any car development contributions, right there.
Question, how does the lclt sleep exactly? Cos I was active recently and it still went to the sleep page?
the timer resets when you post a comment on that page.
Strange how it went to sleep after I commented though?
did you comment on a different tab or something?
I saw FOFA mentioned during Le Mans but I had no idea what it was or that lebol was involved
No, have been in the same lclt since about 7-ish
odd. did some updates for the bleeping noise thing. might've broken something. yell if it keeps doing it pls.
Has anyone seen this new Real Racing game on the App Store? It looks amazing! Excellent graphics for an iPhone/iPod Touch.
Maybe you commented so quitely it didn't hear you
what exactly is lebol?
Will do sir.
I'm assuming the Blue and Orange Lion who is a commentor
blue orange lion and associated family members and pets
although my mind is sleepy so I may be wrong...
Real Racing has just become my single biggest purchase at £5.99. 77 out of 102 reviews gave it 5 stars, so it must be good!
On iTunes, you understand. Not actually in my life! :D
Was about to say for a moment :D
doctor who picked the wrong gadget when he chose the sonic screwdriver.
the iphone does more and it plays games.
does it undo deadlocked sealed doors? thats the only thing his sonic screwdriver cant do, i always feel sorry for him when that happens
Agreed. Single best gadget in my life right now :D
doctor who is the program, he is the doctor!
*geek rage*
:P
:D
he's not called doctor who?
nope.
just "the doctor"
there's bound to be an app for that.
It's like calling you 'Me Who'
hahaha :D
what's his surname then?
he's, to quote david tennant, the DOCTAH!!
Which is where people would ask "Doctor who?", hence the name of the show?
who me?
Oh lord...
his name is 'the doctor' he doesn't have a surname...that we know of
barric... he doesnt have one I mean.
:D
No, lord has nothing to do with doctor who or calling anyone who
:D :D
I was gonna say the Doctor's surname is Thiessen, then realised photoshop was open, and thought better of it to stop myself.
No you don't understa....I meant....oh, forget it.
it sits on standby?
All doctors have names. When people say they are going to see the doctor the doctor they are talking about has a name.
Gordon Brown has made the doctor a lord? Lord what?
what can I say, I waste far too much time on that dreaded program ;)
I understand Lord is a pretty impressive guy, but he doesn't have a device which can save the world.
So why did a couple of them have question marks on his clothes?
i loved over the le mans weekend when the commentators would randomly say "theres an app for that"
:D
he had a personal crisis
It was a confusing few regenerations
I mean, a leek? seriously?
he doesn't have a iphone either?
http://twitterfall.com/
This is the twitter search app Mr C needs. It doesn't tell you about how many new results it has it just feeds them in constantly
God knows.
he has a big phone box, it's the wibbly wobbley timey wimey equivalent of a iphone
Just starting Real Racing.
and the rest have question marks over their taste in clothes
Lord Drayson? He's the only Lord I follow (on Twitter).
mrs c. is after that one. shall pass it on.
:D
the lord has a time machine? oh christ.
Maybe there are no iphones in the future.
this conversation will make me watch Dr Who in a whole new light. The Doctor Who Me Barrichello is now the lord with an iphone the power of a big phone box.
Apprently.
thats my kind of future
Does that make him the number two time lord. Only unofficially of course
Ooooh, I can love the future ahead, regardless of what Timo/BMW does.
Actually scrap that, I want Timo/BMW to do well first.
Christ plays keyboard for Oasis.
Damn, this Real Racing is unbelieveable! :D
The steering is really easy to be smooth with when tilting. It's brilliant :D
I don't know if any of you follow both Nelson Piquet and @F1_updates on Twitter... Nelson said England is too cold, I can't repeat the response :-)
I urge anyone who has an iPhone/iPod Touch and loves racing games - buy. Real. Racing. It is simply amazing they can get a game that looks like something you'd play on a PC or something onto a device as small as this. :D
Not mine. iPhone is the best phone on the market. On Wednesday, all existing iPhones can be upgraded to a new version of the iPhone software, that's like having a whole new phone for nothing.
To the naysayers that complain that the iPhone can't do something theirs can - does your phone have over 50,000 apps that you can install on it? Thought not.
How many of them are utterly pointless?
Means I don't need to get the 3GS when I can just get the software for free! :D
Take that, Crackberry.
Uh oh.
I should really stay away from photoshop...
Nope. But then I am not spending money on stuff I will use once and forget about
What have you been up to this time?
The next Doctor and his companion....
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/mariowho-jpg
Well to be fair, quite a lot of them. The point is that the platform is there and there are some amazingly useful apps already available with many more to come.
Mario I can live with, but WTF with Kubica?!
must.not.laugh. retain.support.for.bmw
I give in
hahaha :D
I've scared even myself :(
Mario looks canny good for the Doctor. Lining up a job for when BMW leaves?
There's been worse. *Shudders*
Hey, why is it always BMW in these scary pics?
I think mario looks freakin' awesome as the doctor!
Just.... the other one....
surely it depends on who you ask and what their interests are?
or to put it another way... define pointless.
I know, he does.
Gonna go now, night all!
it won't give you video, but i agree, it's a whole new thing for free... except for people like me who have to pay for the upgrade, but i digress.
night R.G
See ya RG
night r.g.
Meh, video isn't something I'm gonna miss. As long as I can use TomTom on it when it comes out, I'm all set.
iFart? You have a point though, with all the choice there is bound to be some less than useful stuff, but when you hear stories of medical professionals who would rather go home and collect their forgotten iPhone and be late instead of spending the whole day without it.
The app that allows doctors to monitor their patients via their phones (demonstrated at WWDC) is nothing short of brilliant.
i would probably argue (and please don't get defensive when you read this, because it's just an observation), that the camera installed in the last gen iphone was a bit of a shocker. and in 12 months time it'll look pretty awful compared to the competition.
however, my i
podtouch doesn't even have a camera, so maybe i know nothing.compared to the thing nintendo debuted a week earlier, i agree.
I do see what you mean. End of the day, camera's a camera, isn't it? Probably could do with a flash or something, though.
That's an accounting thing. iPod Touches are a single transaction whereas the income from an iPhone is counted over a longer period (the phone companies subsidise the cost and pay back Apple over time). The upshot is iPhone upgrades are free, iPod Touch upgrades are chargeable. It was the same when Apple released the 802.11n upgrade software.
Riiiight everyone. I need your help...
I need cheap things to do in the Reading and Windsor areas?
I'm sure there's a lot of great stuff out there, my point was that with anything listing xx,000 'great apps' there is bound to be a significant proportion of absolute nonsense in there, and duplicate apps of different versions.
The Blogger plugin section is like it. It lists I don't know how many plugins but only a small proportion are of any use.
the viality sensor majig?
I still can't see what on earth the point in that is. Have tried and read up on it.... still nothing.
According to some sites, the new software improves the clarity of photos taken with the original/3G camera.
Look at the castle
Nice.
riiight...
Castles are awesome!
hmm. that is kinda dubious, because apple frequently update my one time mbp purchase with new software and don't charge me for it.
as do microsoft etc etc.
i think apple are trying to create a new market and i think they'll succeed, but that's a discussion for another day.
Keep driving, don't stop.
Reading Museum is worth a look, it has the only complete replica of the Bayeux tapestry.
to go in yes...not to look at....
sure are :) although living in the south east i was brought up going to castles :D
depends if you are taking photos of it or not.... lol :D
hmm, and if i were to stop?
ooh, sounds fun... :D nearest to us is probably Chepstow Castle which I love visiting.
Newport has a castle though. I say castle, it's a wall. I say wall, it;s a fenced up collage of bricks.
I say collage...
:D :P :)
ahaha :D
No, they regularly update your current version for free. If you have 10.4 then all 10.4 updates are free, but you pay to go to 10.5.
2.x updates were all free on both iPod Touch and iPhone.
It's all down to the beancounters and things I don't pretend to understand (like annual budgets - I mean why can't you just keep the money for a bit longer and spend it when you need to instead of rushing to spend it before some arbitrary deadline?)
what kinda things do you want to do? i've no idea about the reading and windsor area, maybe there are some pretty national trust places or something.... then again you may not like looking at old historical places...
Keep the doors locked and the windows wound up. Hope for the best.
I was born in Reading, I no longer live there. I escaped.
Evening.
i hate to bring it up... but look at the zune. a gen 1 device has had all the updates for free, and MS accountants are just fine with that.
my point is, i understand apple want to change me for new stuff, but they don't have to lie to me and pretend the men in suits make them charge me.
maybe you should give is commenters a bunch of choices and we'll pick for you?
I think Legoland is nearby if you're desperate.
Can you imagine the complaints if Microsoft charged for Service Packs?
Evening
They should employ the blind Apple cheer squad
i can. but andy has a point that 3.0 isn't a service pack, it's a new version.
what i can't abide is someone claiming it's the law to charge me.
i would if i had any ;)
i was thinking Legoland, but its over £30
Not on the touch.
*googles things to do in reading*
this'll be fun ;)
read? ;-)
As I said, I don't pretend to understand the reasoning. It's all to do with numbers...
Also, supplying software to all^Wboth the Zune owners out there must cost very little.
its not that bad, i've been there many times, its not the nicest of places, but its not that bad. some parts are nice.
:P
So unlike my MS Mobile 5 to 6 update being a free update. ;)
well what kinda things appeal to you (so i know what kinda thing i'm looking for)
;)
activity things, stuff thats active.
that's exactly what i'm talking about :)
by activity things i mean stuff you can do
I'll even probably get 6.5 and 7 as freebies too.
so, sitting in the car park at microsoft doesn't count?
If you had 1.x you paid for 2. All 1.x updates were free for 1.x ipods, likewise for 2.x. When version 2 came out, iPod touches were reduced in price by £10 which was more than the cost of the upgrade.
Yes, but would you *want* any of those upgrades?!
outsidey stuff? you're asking here??
You've reminded me now of the comedian Tony Hawks answering emails on his website to people thinking he is the skater Tony Hawk, and one email ended in 'thanks for reading' and he responded with...
I like the way you finish your mail. 'Cheers for Reading'. At last someone else who appreciates this much maligned town. Reading is a wonderful place with an excellent one way system, efficient libraries, and a number of fine grass verges. On top of that, it is well-served by the M4 motorway, so it has easy access to places which are much, much nicer.
Goodbye
TH
i see that on the train, and have got lost in that industrial estate too.
aaaah, memories
:D :D
Not sure about 6.5 yet. Haven't got the betas running yet.
What I've seen about 7 looks superb though.
Ah. Thought you meant the 1 -> 2 upgrade.
you have a point..
Is there any kind of racing near Reading?
Superb and Windows Mobile in the same sentence?! I must be dreaming.
He's completely right.
this gets my vote:
http://www.thamesrivercruise.co.uk/fleet_princess.htm
There's a kart track, same company as the one we went to in January. Also speedway.
best i can find jon:
http://readingroars.com/top-10-things-to-do-in-reading/
may we pick something from there?
haha, go for it
that looks goood
Oh! Watch Reading FC!
ggod. am going for the tenth top thing to do in reading:
"And finally, leave town. Eh? Yes, that’s right - get outta town!"
Drive to Woking, look for McLaren.
haha, you are unaware of my loathing of football
According to this (from the Internet), it is:
"Apple charges for system software because Apple's policy makers
suspect they'll make more money by charging for it than by not
charging for it. Apple is a publicly held corporation in a
capitalist economy where the law requires corporations to make
reasonable attempts to maximize profits. To give away something
Apple could make more money by charging for would be a breach of
the fiduciary responsibility of Apple's Board of Directors and
actionable by Apple stockholders in a court of law."
http://bit.ly/zUQzi
:D
No, it really is that bad. Except Caversham.
there are some nice parts :)
i have a low expectation, i was bought up on a main road in southampton.
everywhere looks nice to me
bunkem. how can you explain what pretty much every other software company in the world has done at least one their past?
That would get my vote. Are you allowed to just "drop in".?
you can stand by the entrance sign.
This is Apple. You aren't meant to question, just enjoy getting charged.
Oh, and cheer about it a bit.
They are covering their behinds because they are scared of being sued by their shareholders.
YAY!
:D
I'll add it to my list of things to do in the UK
No idea. But Brooklands isn't a lot further away.
and microsoft aren't bothered?
they're not covering anything, they're lying through their teeth. however, i shall still be paying come wednesday.
I'm just tuning into panorama via iplayer, it looks like they're looking at newspapers and privacy laws for celebs... It looks like they have an interview with Max if anyones interested in rehashing zwei-gate
That's part of the reason I sold my touch, and got an iPhone. Which, I suspect, is all part of the plan.
Mercedes centre and the Brooklands Museum.
:D
Some beautiful stuff at both. The Concorde at Brooklands is one of the best survivors. Simulator is good if you can get a shufti at it. ;)
i forgot to add....
things to do with my very-un-racing-fan-girlfriend. in reading...
It is senseless to me. Countless companies give stuff away. They are using the technicalities of accounting practice to get out of it.
There's a Concorde at Brooklands? I've been in the one at Yeovilton.
110% agreement.
So Vista is free for XP owners? I told you it was complicated.
In June?
Shopping then.
Yup. One of the development airframes. She's a beauty. May have friends who worked on it and been on board while she was being reassembled though. ;)
Some lovely old stuff there. Planes, cars, bikes... Plus the race track itself.
eh?
maybe i'm doing a bad job of explaining, but you're missing my point by a thousand miles.
Crazy mixed up Australian
the oracle must never be mensioned
No, but XP is for Vista owners...
from the matrix?
ooooh. good flippin' point sir!
Oracle was replaced by Telextext.
No. But what Apple is doing is a bit like giving Vista away to Dell owners, but charging HP owners....
♥
its a shopping centre *shudders*
Only vista business that has downgrade rights isnt it?
Nice :-)
I keep meaning to go, was never sure if it was worth it.
can you ask it questions?
But you're not allowed to install Apple OS on anything but Apple...
Hello - monopolies commission?
Brooklands is interesting. Go climb up the banking on the track and look how bumpy it is. The idea that they used to do the insane speeds they did there with no real barrier on the top is scary. It is obscene that they knocked down a lot of the track to build a shopping centre
Not that I'm aware of - any version you get with a PC can be changed to XP.
nope, but it will ask your wallet "can i drain you?" and without you even answering it says "thanks"
I haven't been there since Merc bought it
Yeah, I knew that wasn't gonna sound right.
It's just GRRRR annoying for Touch owners.
to me, the upgrade is worth the asking price.
i just hate the veil of bs that's spun around it.
Crikey... Max is explaining exactly what he was up to... I really didnt need the different roll games explaining :S or did I need to hear him describing himself as an "oppressor"
I went before Merc bought it and before they had a Concorde and it was facinating then. Go
now i want to go.
You need to wait till morning
I thought that Merc bought a bit of land and a section of the old track, but not the museum?
heeeh!
Am I? I'm not sure I follow - just look at Windows 32bit OS - NT 3.51 -> NT4.0 -> Windows 2000 (NT 5.0) -> Windows XP (NT 5.1) -> WIndows Vista (NT 6.0) -> Windows 7 - All paid-for upgrades. Updates and service packs for each version are all free.
Look at the version numbers, the choice of charging is down to marketing.
Other companies do the exact same thing.
At least Apple has a clear policy.
Sidepodtrip
We've known that for ages though - look at how he treats the teams. ;)
Will investigate for a later time.. ta.
I can't remember what they bought
So is the banking still there?
If you want anything - you pay for it.
At least I made money from Windows ME. ;)
Large chunks of it. You can see it on google earth/maps
Parts of it are. You can just about see it from the train between Dorchester and London if you are paying attention...
specifically Surbiton and... argh can't remember
Cool !
A section of it is. They knocked down some of it when it was an air base during the war then they knocked down the majority of the rest to make a shopping centre. You can still sit on the track - low down - and see it disappear round the corner
I think it's funny that the town that has the UK HQ of Oracle has a shopping centre called the Oracle. Confusing?
When Oracle's HQ was being built, their address was something like: Oracle UK, c/o Microsoft Technology Park, Reading.
I think the nearest town is Weybridge
you've conveniently ignored all of the previous examples i've listed, and the one's flibster has listed.
i say conveniently...
look at the zune. itself ipod-esque. every version of the zune ever purchased can run the latest updates for FREE.
apple are spreading FUD on this issue. with the likely intention to capitalise on consumers stupidity.
i understand your position on this one, but pretending apple are being in any way transparent is utter poppycock.
From the train you can see the big Mercedes building, a (narrow-looking) track, several aircraft, and a wide bumpy road. If your eyes follow that bumpy road it starts to bank, and then the trees get in the way.
Linky time.
So here I am trying to work it out on Google Earth. I have NO IDEA where to look.
and I should have read your post!
All relevant Brooklans info
http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/
http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/content/unitedkingdom/mpc/mpc_unitedkingdom_website/en/home_mpc/MBWorldBrooklands.flash.skipintro.html
In a desperate attempt to get people to buy it? Seriously, I don't know the answer.
I don't see the FUD.
My position is that I think it is a pity that iPod Touch owners have to pay for the new features in the new version, I was just trying to explain the reasoning behind it.
the answer to me seems obvious. it is not illegal to offer free software updates (minor fixes or major versions) to one-time-purchase items. the only company who claim that it is are apple.
personally, i'd say its curtious to do that for your customers. if theres a problem or something that could easily be improved, your customers shouldnt have to pay for it.
Thanks. £9 for the museum and £4 for the Concorde bit.
Not too bothered about the Merc bit..
i still would happily pay. i really don't mind paying.
i only object to having to swallow whatever nonsense they're spouting to justify their actions. when quite simply:
"it cost us a bloomin' fortune to develop, so pay up"
is perfectly acceptable.
More so, since they are charging so little for 10.6. It's quite strange....
I've just found stuff relating to the 802.11n update which explains that, according to Apple, it is compelled to charge for new features in a product due to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act:
"Because of the Act, the company believes that if it sells a product, then later adds a feature to that product, it can be held liable for improper accounting if it recognizes revenue from the product at the time of sale, given that it hasn’t finished delivering the product at that point."
So fixes are free, features have to be paid for.
The iPhone isn't affected by this because of the residual income from the phone companies.
Ah! I *knew* they had done this before for something.
I was really annoyed about that one.
you can keep saying it...
the zune updates came with plenty of new features.
Just something random here:
http://cheapsmells.com/
Good place for aftershaves and stuff at low prices. Thinking about getting me some more of that Ferrari aftershave.
Isn't that just Agip oil?
:D
I've bought it before for £10 once, 'tis rather nice.
A fiver down the esso garage, got a gallon of the stuff.
I win..
Oh you mean the ferrari no thte oil
:D
So Microsoft have decided to interpret the act differently. As I said, I'm not trying to justify the policy, just to explain it.
Also, Safari is free to download, so fixes and updates are equally free.
What a excuse. :D
IE 7 + 8
Outlook Express updates
Vista
Microsoft movie maker.
Microsoft Defender
Cyberlink Powerdvd
MS Live Apps
All have updates that add functionality and are free.
true, but that was always free.
am guessing the sox interpretation relates only to purchased items?
Aah, Sarbane Oxley discussion. Fun fun fun. Cranky about having to pay for something that others get for free? Tough noogies - deal with it!
While I mean this in the nicest possible way (of course :D), threre are more important, F1 related things, to worry about
you're misinterpreting my take on things though. one more time, and then i give up...
1) i am happy to pay for i
podtouch updates.2) i just wish apple didn't spout bs to justify their pricing.
thinking about it i actually disagree. f1 really isn't important right now and i don't care enough to worry about it. am much happier discussing technology.
formula 1 can go flush itself down the loo so far as i'm concerned this week.
a shiny new 13" mbp though, and i'm all ears.
with the half speed SATA connector?
i have no sata devices, so it doesn't affect me at the moment.
do we know if it's battery related, or what the reasoning is?
Which makes no practical difference for any of the hard drives currently supplied.
Unless you're running SSD
He means the internal drive. You won't notice the difference.
i would have to agree.
that too.
i'm most glad about not being around for the rest of this week, because it means F1 can screw itself up, and instead of me watching, i can just have a look at hte end of the week and see what the cards have dealt us
it's cheaper?
So it seems. Further reading tells me it might not be SOx but another accounting law:
"This is a SAB 104 (Revenue Recognition) and EITF 00-21 (multiple deliverables) issue. You cannot recognize revenue until delivery of the service/goods. They have already recognized the revenue from these ipod sales. If they were to give this update out for free, this would imply that they had not finished delivery and could not have recognized the revenue in previous period. This would require a restatement of prior periods' financial statements.."
Looking at Flibster's list, the other thing that springs to mind is the hardware/software link. The iPod Touch is sold as a complete package, hardware and software, whereas Microsoft mainly sells software, crucially software that can run on any compatible hardware.
Doesn't explain the Xbox though.
hear hear. am in exactly the same frame of mind.
wake me up when june ends... or something to that effect.
Or the PS3 or Wii. All have had extra features added.
yup. wake me up when the season ends infact
could be. i really have no idea. unlike the removal of firewire though, am not in the slightest bit concerned.
Sorry. I'm shooting off at the mouth without having read much of the previous discussion. Surely if it was BS, it would have been debunked very publicly?
I also want it known that I don't mean to sound like I'm discouraging discussion. I realize that the way I say things makes it hard to believe, but I want to make sure my position is clear
i like that!
haven't they put it back in for the MBPro - but removed the audio in jack...
they've put it back (yay), but the audio in/out is a single cable which again is fine by me, because the reason i need firewire is for... an audio interface :)
A single cable? Let me guess - that you have to pay for?
no idea. andy's looking now i think, so if there's any evidence i'm sure he'll find it.
my take is that, no-one else has even hinted of such a requirement before apple, and so far as i know, nobody's tried to copy the approach since.
This is Apple we're talking about. They sprout BS all the time and get away with it.
pass. but if you do, it's of no interest to me.
the 13" mbp is perfect for me in every single way except for the glossy screen, which i'd prefer to be matt. and also the price, because it's not free i cannot have one now!
:)
i am loosing patience with the sport i once loved, very quickly infact, and its quite obvious that i'm not sticking with it for the racing. and some people may say "well its f1, if you want good racing go elsewhere" well i dont accept that, f1 is meant to be the best, but at the moment, its (for want of a better, slightly stronger word) weeing itself up the way. and i hate it, infact it makes me angry, really angry.
as far as im concerned the only reason i havent left it all together is because of you guys, but soon im going to walk away if things dont get better, and franckly (see what i did there?!) F1 can take me or leave me, i honestly dont care which.
rant over
Audio in now combined with headphone socket on 13" MBP only. 15 and 17" retain separate ports (digital optical too)
But it is to people who say.... want to use a non-usb headset for skype calls
umm, depends.
bluetooth is built-in, but and if i ever use skype on the current mbp, i use the built-in mic and a pair of headphones. that setup will still work just fine in the new 13".
It's designed to take a combined headphone/microphone connector - as used on the iPhone and iPod Touch. You will have to buy suitable headphones or a cable, but the connector is standard.
am guessing the 13" loses dig-opt? not that i ever used it.
I can't see anything definite.
no worries. the CC is still primed for tomorrow evening ;)
Digital in is gone, but digital out remains. It's there on the 15" or you can connect your own firewire/usb audio interface.
:D
totally understandable too.
without spc i'd probably just keep watching the races until it sorts itself out, but i've really no interest right now in who-said-what-to-who-or-when-or-why.
if they find a deal they'll still be bickering, and if they break away then they'll just argue about which is better. aaargh it makes me so angry
Well, management comes and goes. We've seen the FISA/FOCA war, this latest one is more of the same. I was younger then and didn't really understand, so I just watched the racing. I'm more worried about the politics now, but I trust it will all work out in the wash up.
it feels a bit like my life at the moment....i know it will sort itself out eventually, but until then, you have to watch all the crap and uncertaintly happening
i like my rants and mini speeches, maybe i should become a politician ;)
am with you on that.
you can have my vote.
...what are you policies?
If the politics seriously has an eddect on anyone the best thing to do is ignore it because it won't affect the racing at all. I think it could still go a few months yet but it has no real effect on the on track stuff. We may end up with a more interesting off season as a result as driver contracts can;t be sorted until all this bull is cleared up.
you could be onto something there.
1) important dates for peoples lives tattoo'd on their arm....so e.g you'd have 16th June tattoo'd on your arm ;)
2) everyone would get a free milky bar
3) bring back slush puppies
4) bring in a seperation of sport and politics
5) make SPC funded by tax's
British tax payers I hope.
:D
my favourite!
i was thinking australia tax payers actually ;)
They've not gone away.
me too, when safeways was safeways they used to have them near me, but then morisons took over and they got rid of them. boo
yeah i know, but they're harder to get hold of near me.
what i mean by that sentance is....GIVE US BACK SLUSH PUPPIES MORRISONS MALDON!!!
My parting comment has to go as such..
I know Planet F1 isn't always the most reliable, but i give it its dues and try and read quotes and bits to see the actual story...
But i think this editorial has gone a tad too far
It's all Lewis's fault
I misread that. Thought it said taxis. I thought there was going ro be a levy on taxi drivers. It would be more popular. Except with taxi drivers
It does say at the end that the blame may also be placed on Trulli (for going off) or Vettel/Kubica (for bringing out the safety car).
You could take this further - by blaming the race director for deploying the safety car - the FIA for setting the rules and so on back to the controversial creation of the universe.
isn't it easier to just blame steven? pf1 no nothing :)
Damn, I completely forgot about that.
Must be his fault you will be paying for the iPod Touch upgrade then. (runs)
