Apparently today is the "International Day of Families" and this year's theme is "Challenges in a Changing World." Nice and fitting, as we heard this week about Felipe Baby actually having a baby. Anyway, here's some of the things we're talking about:
- It's the big pow wow today, as the FIA and FOTA go head to head to discuss the 2010 regulations, and Bernie Ecclestone sticks his oar in as well. There's no knowing whether we'll hear anything tomorrow or not, but at least the debate isn't dragging on and they're getting on with trying to sort things out.
- In two very different news items, I read that Lewis Hamilton hasn't given up on the title challenge yet, and that he tips Button for the win this year. I'm not sure how you can do both, and I'm not sure who to believe. Nevertheless, that Hamiltonometer is swinging well. I am going to keep using that until it catches on, by the way.
- Button's signed up to do some running and stuff in London during the summer break in August. I don't know about you, but my idea of a summer holiday isn't participating in a triathlon around our nation's capital, even if it is for charity. Good on him, though.
That should keep you going for now. I imagine there'll be plenty to talk about today, but we'll see. I'll be popping in and out of the comments, so I might see you there.
i am at work. I feel rubbish. Only 7 hours til i can leave! Why didnt anyone try harder to stop me last night? I won 13 magazines though so lack of sleep = worth it :)
You had 4 hours sleep. What more do you want.
Glad you got the mags
i'll start early then...
amy, go to sleep.
Keep a running count of the number of cups of tea/coffee/energy drink you are consuming.
night peeps.
so far one cup of tea and half a bottle of mountain dew. Break in 30 min will be a coffee. I dont like energy drinks :(
Mountain Dew; tastes like fizzy wees.
How you know what wees tastes like is the more important issue!
no mountain dew in the uk, right? btw Im jus back from a party and Ill be here for half an hour or so ;)
i hated it as a kid so didnt drink it until i was 20 when someone told me to give it another try so i am making up for the lost years of drinking time
Someone the other day said they knew where to get it in the UK
Evening all. I miss anything?
i'm not here.
Any special reason?
supposed to be working :)
Me too, So I guess I'm not here either
In that case, I'm not here as soon as my girlfriend figures out what I'm doing.
yay :)
perfect. we absolutely should discuss f1 then.
So when is the meeting today? And who all are going to it?
Both good questions.
And will they listen to each other?
grandprix.com has some info on it.
i think luca, max and bernie.
Yeah, Joe does not paint a rosy picture on his blog does he?
f1 eh. Apparently it is "failing on its green promises" i cant read the article due to my bbc only access but i for one am shocked. What do you mean a green ring on a tyre doesnt make the sport carbon neutral?
nope. the annoying thing is it'll overshadow the monaco gp, just when the whole world is watching.
I'm sure that Force India has some green on it somewhere too
At least it's this week and not right before the race.
Didn't they plant some trees or something too?
in short... max is ace and the teams suck. even though the fia themselves back the green stripey tyre thing.
am getting the impression max/fia are calling in some favours. this is looking like a coordinated PR assault prior to the meeting.
:)
I'm sure one of those KERS thingys regenerated some energy at some point too. Can't quite remember when tho
fred pearce who wrote the article is clueless.
any failing on the part of kers can be attributed to max/fia, either for picking too conservative regeneration targets, or for failing to predict the issue with driver weights.
the teams are trying.
Just on this whole FIA/FOTA money thing. Surely the FIA don't want F1 destroyed so, is there something we don't know? Are FOTA being outrageous in their budget cap claims? Are the FIA simply bluffing, and going to give in to something?
Woops! Meeting time......
hard to say. most people seem to think it's win or bust for max.
I found the best summary of the issues on the table to be Joe's analysis over at his blog.
I feel like it's the FIA that's going to give on this one, and the teams will win out. Maybe they will make some concessions to help get the new teams on the grid...
Is there anyone campaigning to run against Max in the upcoming election?
rumours. but no clear leader so far as we know.
Is $40M alot of money though?
Ugh. That's disappointing to those of us hoping for bust.
for ferrari. no.
for lola. yes.
I think $40M makes it 'afordable' for too many people
It's $60M, or 40M Pounds Sterling. For a big team like Ferrari or Toyota, they typically spend about 5 to 10 times that much money per year.
Googling shows me these are the 2003 team budget numbers:
$443,800,000 Ferrari
$353,300,000 Williams
$304,600,000 McLaren
$290,400,000 Toyota
$225,100,000 BAR
$206,800,000 Renault
$119,500,000 Sauber
$ 79,200,000 Jordan
$ 78,800,000 Jaguar
$ 39,600,000 Minardi
Here's the link:
http://www.fastmachines.com/f1/the-price-of-formula-1/
having said that, i don't think the money is the issue.
no way in the month of sundays, are ferrari, toyota, bmw etc going to let the fia poke their noses into their finances.
and to be honest, neither would i. not because they or i have have anything to hide, but because it's none of max's business.
Are those number the total money spent for the season including the winter?
Everything from Kimi's icecream to, um something else funny that I can't think of
I agree 100%
Yes. They're not the total developmental budget, they are the total yearly budget so this would include work on the 2004 car.
The people who will suffer will be the mechanics and the poor buggers working away in the factors don't you think? They will have a lower salary.
F1 will be a less lucrative carrer path.
but if other sports can do it, why not F1? baseball. basketball, us & euro football, they do it.
agreed. and superstar designers will move on to other sports.
That is different though
Or building Super Coliders with unlimited budgets!
but do they do anything else?
e.g. ferrari make road cars as a business. what do baseballs teams do other than play baseball?
But surely Max isn't looking at the Ferrari budget, he's just looking at their F1 budget. Lists of parts and hours sheets for the boffins... that's it, right?
Plus baseball you have a huge player/driver list. In F1 it only two who are on stupid money
yup - they also sell merchandise, they get their own stadiums built, and the like. sure, that's not a completely different business per se, but these are non-sport activities.
and yes, that too. :)
Ferrari are successful though. Why punish that.
Aren't they the only car company making money?
he has to look at everything. else how will he know what the windtunnel was used for? a new road car, or f1 parts...
In that case, I'm with you. That's not Max's business. Other than that, I really feel like a budget cap is a good thing, just not the one that Max has set... something more reasonable.
Plus IF A1 GP continues could they not just be looking into new 'concepts' for the car in that series?
absolutely. and that's just the start.
But there needs to be a top racing series, there has to be some bleeding edge of technology, and I don't think a single make series like that could do it.
I have an idea
Nah I am saying they could just Pretend to be developing the A1 car and be giving the F1 team the findings free of charge.
do tell.
Honky Tonk Racing is going to start up business
We will be a charaty organisation that is dedicated to pursuit of excelence. Will will accept donations from F1 teams. But behind closed dorrs we will be running our wind tunnel and the results will be left on the coffe table spygate style.
:P
We are looking for employees!
On another note.........
How is it possible that Red Bull can support two teams? I can't work that company out. They have two F1 teams, A WRC team, An Americas Cup team, Football, every extreme sport under the sun etc etc etc etc.
How is that?
I've got $6, can I invest?
I'm also trained in wind tunnel testing!
financially? they sell a lot of cans.
and on that note, i must sleep. not that i was here you understand...
night all ;)
G'night me, I'm about to sleep myself.
You recon? You think it is that good? The bussiness?
That is alot of cans!
In 2008 Red Bull reported $4.28 Billion in sales. I'd imagine with sponsorships and prize money and whatnot... it adds up.
WOW!
To quote Top Gear, "And on that bombshell, goodnight!"
next thing i know, everyone's chatting during the Monaco GP, but no one's really here... :P
i am always here. I cannot deny the truth. Borg
Wait... you're talking about A1GP without me?
Oh and good morning BTW!
What about the Hamiltron? Hamiltome? Hamilgauge? Hamiltoniscope?
I like Hamiltome
My goodness - you HAVE turned into Borg. Apparently, if we repeat something often enough, it becomes the truth. :P
That's good news for Christine's Hamiltonometer...
I personally prefer Hamiltometer. :D
Ah. So Ferrari could spend $100 million on developing a new A1GP car and then build the F1 car for it? Smart idea. Mclaren could do that too with their technology or Road car department...
I remember when there was a winter Testing ban, Toyota flouted it by testing their new F1 engine in their old GT-1 Le Mans car. This sort of stuff is probably why the teams are against the budget caps, they know they are all too smart to stick to them!
I keep mentioning this. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought anything the F1 team receives from external sources (even from their A1GP effort) will still be credited as part of their expenses?
Yes but Accountants being accountants, they WILL find a way around that one!
I like Lewisometer
Funnily enough, the accounting firm hired by Max (I think it's Deloitte) said that even if accountants try to hide it, it can be traced...
Morning.
It's Hamiltonometer.
hehe I call it something else that's not printable
:)
If you insist. :P
Ah sorry, misread the post due to being overexcited (surprise visit from colleagues from NZ!) - thought you were looking for other names too...
Aww :(
Hamilguage is good, but it's not the one :)
That's like catchphrase :)
Hey - Bernie with no glasses on!
http://schlegelmilch.smcc.de/archive/preview/6948dfe96607b2655e9e17e98c737f4c/94882/0905-0035.jpg
link no worky
Rainer Schlegelmilch has some nice pics from Spain. Some candid poses from Bernie (as mentioned above) and Keke Rosberg.
Just found out that link won't work directly. :( You need to create an account to view the pics, but it's for free.
http://schlegelmilch.smcc.de/archive/index.php
So what happened was that my old colleagues have flown all the way from NZ to Denmark for a meeting with someone else in the company - and didn't tell me! Was great to see them and we are going for beers later... what a strange surprise though! :D
Very cool.
awesome!
just started watching the first Australian TV broadcast of Eurovision this year. The Australian commentators are annoying me already, 3 minutes in.
That is fantastic. They missed ya! Hahaha! Enjoy your day with them! :D
Who are the commentators?
They do - they offered me a job on the spot!
I don't even know who they are, I think they are Australian TV hosts. So far they've come up with gems such as 'oh how I love a host with a lisp' and 'oh wow. its starting.' They're overly sarcastic which I think they think is funny but it comes across as very 'lets laugh at Europe, we're better than them'
For some reason the tv station is having voting on its website even though this is the first semi final which was a couple of days ago.
Gooood morning.
Morning Lukeh!
Are they the sort that would be on Rove or the oldies sort?
Hehe, sounds like an awesome surprise. :)
*jumps about in sidepodsilence*
Hello? Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me... is there anybody home? :P
I'm here.
Hurrah!
It's too quiet, and there's too little F1 news. :(
I'm here too - but very busy. The preview quotes are trickling in and there was a story on Lola earlier. Not much else, though...
No news is good news, they say.
True, true. Although I'm checking out Jenson's sponsor page for thre Triathlon and I see Martin Brundle has donated £500 :o
I think no news means FOTA and Max are still talking...?
Ooh, lovely.
Have just donated £10 myself :D
Am doing the same :)
I'll be a bit GMM and post the BBC article on the talks...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8049816.stm
yay!
Also noticed at the top Jules set up the stuff for jenson, that made me happier for some reason. Even though we knew last week Jules was still about :P
Just noticed peter windsor just donated too!
Done.
And Louise Goodman is on there too :)
And David Tremayne gave loads.
Grrr.
There's quite a few more names in there!
I know, I have no idea how I missed the people Christine just mentioned...
I think it was Brundle's donation stunning me :P
That isn't a grr that he donated. That was just an impression. Oops.
Hehe :P
Did he donate Grrr-ty pounds? :)
Hehehehe at Tweetstats..
Your top five words: work, really, good, today, sidepodcast
Try out your own! It's really freaked me out how much I say certain things at certain times, and my twitter seemed to go mad in April this year... you an try it at http://tweetstats.com/
Looking at those who donated to Jenson. Here's an interesting name:
Alex Hawkridge - former boss of Toleman, Senna's 1st F1 team.
:D
Mine: Your top five words: f1, time, awesome, good, sebring
stop; f1 time! :P
Any good f1 tweets today?
Hi guys in Berlin. Was at Heathrow earlier but didn't see any of the F1 guys.
Why are you in Berlin?
I like to keep you guessing :)
Just on a long weekend away holiday with Katherine and some other friends.
Cool Stuff man!
you're not supposed to be here.
I'm really not. Katherine's having a quick nap so I've snuck on!
Good afternoon all
anyone seen this?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75319
Quite genius, it does make me laugh
Oh dear, they already messed it up, might as well keep going
Yeah I did.
Is it just me, or are all the major motorsports series unravelling right now?
Oopps gotta go :)
i haven't caught up with the comments, but has this been mentioned?
"Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo, will miss Friday's crisis talks with Max Mosley after the death of his father."
"The champions were represented instead by team boss Stefano Domenicali."
presumably it won't make a massive difference to proceedings. but i'm also guessing steffi doesn't hold a lot of sway either.
What an awful week for those in power - max loses his son and Luca loses his dad :(
We like Dom better than Monty, don't we?
But Monty is the FOCA guy, isn't he?
Stefano smiles, so yes :P
shame to hear what happened to Luca though, of course.
true, but he's also a bit whitmarshy, in that he appears to agree with everything in order to keep the peace.
maybe not quite that bad.
I imagine Luca has given him specific instructions and you wouldn't want to go back and face him if you get it wrong, would you?
true enough.
i didn't realise so many teams were present. when did it change from a meeting between max and luca, that bernie crashed, into a full blown fota thing with the world's media camping outside heathrow?
Why is Heathrow suddenly the in vogue meeting place?
Because it's big and being in an airport, it's easier to travel to?
always was. although usually for the less "public" meetings.
the reason is that all the team principles own private jets.
Ah, I figured I just wasn't paying attention previously.
Meeting at the airport makes it seem much more impromptu and urgent.
not only that though, it's easier to sneak in and out of a busy airport.
normally the meetings tend to be more undercover than this one, so people can sneak in and out via a multitude of routes.
don't be surprised if LDM joined them by phone, anyway.
I've just been to the corner shop (Morrisons)....
it's SidepodEcclesCake time :D
That's a rather large corner!
I swear there aren't that many older people where live, but they seem to all swarm out during the day and converge on morrisons coffee shop...
:D
sidepodspace update
The second spacewalk of the Hubble servicing mission is underway. Not sure when it started but it still has a few hours to run
What they receive is completely irrelevant. What they spend on their F1 program is all that counts. So long as they stick to the budget they can raise $10 billion dollars.
Sorry but I think this makes a huge difference...
Sadly the meeting was due to happen in Spain but didn't due to Max's bereavement and now we have Luca having personal reasons to stay away from the revised date....
Stephano will not be able to do much other than take notes...
I can't see much happening today... but I hope I am wrong...
Hey, people, did you notice http://grandprixdiary.com (can't post links here - comment ends up in moderation but seems to have worked this time) is back and it features f1minute. I think team and driver description is worth reading. Also check out Australian and Malaysian GP news. I was rolling on the floor laughing.
Maybe you noticed or talked about it before but I think this website deserves a place in the weblinks section here.
"Melbourne, Saturday: David Coulthard is reported to be bitterly disappointed following Sir Richard Branson becoming the first man to swear on the BBC’s Formula One coverage.
DC had been waiting for the right moment to drop in a naughty word but at 2:12 hours 34.098 seconds Branson popped in a ‘bastard’ leaving DC crestfallen.
Coulthard feels he is ready to bounce back and it is hoped his bad language form will return in time for the European season."
The blimd leading the blind
Assuming he doesn't run out of paper or ink of course...
That might be the point of sending him?
Really? I swear I read that somewhere in the rules... Hmmm.
The deadline is too close for LDM to skip it. I think he's attending it by phone.
To take notes? I thought this was supposed to get settled today??
They are allowed to make profits and any dividend they pay based on those profits are not part of the cap. So they could pay their staff $1each in salary then pay them a dividend of $1million each at the end of the year and it doesn't count as part of their budget
Nothing is going to get settled today unless Max capitulates. My guess is this will run for a while yet.
There's going to be some super creative accounting if this budget cap happens!
There's a new video up where Murray answeres questions here
no chance.
The budget cap can never happen. If it did the real preice of things would be ignored and FIA estimated orices would be used. The FIA aims to have final accounts two to three months after the end off the season. These are the people who would penalise cars using cool fuel in Brazil because it was unfair to change the champion after the end of the event even when the evidence was black and white. Given the inevitable delays and complexities we could see someone be crowned world champion only to lose it in February or part way through the following season after appeals.
Alianora has read up on this as usual and she says that some ofthe info the FIA requires the companies in certain countries cannot leagally give them.
does this mean we'll be talking about this all weekend in monaco? that can't be good...
yup.
It seems like the ridiculous Rome track is for real. Just what F1 needs another lunatic facist.
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21473.html
sidepodecclescakes finished.
they are AMAZING
The pictures from today's spacewalk are about th best we have ever had from space apart from inside the ISS. Shame we keep losing them due to lack of coverage.
Must be good. It has taken you 2 hours to eat it
nonono, i went to the shop to get the ingredients. i made them myself :D
We have a secnd sidepodbaker
im a little bit addicted to baking at the moment (did i just say that?!) i made scones last week, cookies the week before...
Mmmmmmmm cookies. Now I want to do some baking!
they were yummmy
How did we go from being a bunch of sleep deprived motor racing addicts to swapping recipes and live commenting the Eurovision song contest?
The odd thing is that even though there are more women here than on the average F1 site it is all men who are doing these things. We need a big controversial story to break out of today's talks to get us back on track.
Afternoon all. The rain poured down today as we stood outside at Segedunum, making notes in the rain is hard.
Just watching "The Making of Brawn GP" video over on ITV-F1, the sponsor message before hand from Honda.
Eurovision. Now thats damn awesome
Based on what you said earlier, I think we'll be talking about recipes and Eurovision for a while... ;)
how irronic
Yep, the video essentially was promoting the relationship between BrawnGP and Mercedes.
HELLO!
http://twitter.com/f1scoop/status/1807033820
Lets hope so :D
On SkySportsNews as well now
'Max Mosley says there has been no comprimise on the 40 million budget cap'
Err
And earlier...
http://twitter.com/f1scoop/status/1804201503
But if a deal has indeed been reached, it weakens Max's hand.
It looks like a date from a calendar
Ferrari also seeking court injunction in France to stop the thing happening
They're not exclusive to each other. They may both be right. I still think we'll end up with a 40M budget cap - the question is - when does it start? And how will it be implemented?
Erm... what??
Ladies and gents, welcome to the Spin Zone.
It's up to us to figure out who's telling what, and which of it is true...
I think we need to wait for offical reports rather than twitter updates, but lets hope they have come to some sort of compromise.
From SSN ticker bar
'Ferrari seek court injunction to stop f1 2010 rule change'
That's true, but some of these are coming from Sky Sports.
Then again, they're not the most reliable of sources...
Did this happen BEFORE or AFTER the negotiations? That would be key here.
It's a news network, they'll only wanting to be telling the truth here
Pass, all that has been said
:D
Nothing on Reuters yet
I think Sky Sports messed it up during the Ferrari announcement on Tuesday. Which is why the way they report news is a bit questionable.
Has the meeting even finished?
Someone is saying Max was the one who announced this. Not sure if this is true, though.
Nothing on Joe's or James Akken's blogs
Apparently, yes.
Allen
Autosport - bad news, people:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75325
Does anyone know where the meeting was. Webcams?
Max was the one about it not changing. I don't know about that one, plus why would he say that?
wow. the fia not wanting to change their position on something?! theres a change
ooh yay just what we wanted.
Exactly as expected then. Max is playing hardball. Expect more new team announcements over the weekend. David Richards and Agag I guess
"Furthermore, it emerged during the meeting that Ferrari has lodged legal action in the French courts to block the 2010 rules - claiming their introduction was a breach of a technical veto they had"
that's good news, isn't it?
They're not exactly Ferrari, are they?
So good they couldn't find the full stop?
we don't want this to go to the civil courts. we've never gone that far before. ever.
Huh?
From twitter
RT @f1scoop: Ecclestone claims a deal has been reached with FOTA including the removal of two-tier regulations. Details to follow. #F1
See, Sky Sports know what they are talking about here.
Hopefully FOTA will stick together and say no two tier and no budget cap.
Shows how crooked the sport is when one team has a veto. But there is no bias to Ferrari
Asolutely not but Max will spin it that he can produce a full grid and every time one team quits a new one appears so no change.
Something's not right here.
If Ferrari are claiming that no rules change means no Ferrari in F1 2010, why are they applying for an injunction on the 2010 rules? Surely, they'd be pulling out, so there's no need to stop the FIA from applying those rules?
I'd rather see a 20-car grid with Ferrari, BMW, Renault, McLaren on it than a 26-car grid of newbies...
eh? they're not saying that.
they're saying if the 2010 rules remain as currently written, then no dice, they're going home.
No-one is pulling out. Ferrari will be there in 2010. What there position is is that they want to race in 2010 under agreed rules. Should the agreed rules be changed they will quit.
agreed.
so why are they applying for an injunction?
because max is insisting on forcing through his 2010 rules.
To stop the introduction of the two tier system and the budget cap so that they can race in 2010 under 2009 rules
How come we can discuss this before most of the news sites even have the story up?
that makes sense to me. what doesn't make sense is that ferrari didn't threaten to sue, they threatened to quit. politically, it makes sense, but logically, it doesn't. if ferrari want to quit, they can quit without suing...
autosport has it, so it's as good as true.
We have agents around the world.
Plus an access to twitter and Sky
I love this tweet from F1Scoop:
we're the best :)
They want to race but only under certain rules. They are suing to force Max into giving them the rules they want. If they lose they quit. Just more hard ball.
That makes sense. But I would've thought they'd threaten to sue and quit, not just quit...
It just seems off that I can bounce round half a dozen sites and find no comment whatever. Bunch of part timers. They need to be working sidepodcast hours
The era of FIArrari seems so long ago, doesn't it?
I guess they thought that threatening to quit would have the desired effect. When that didn't work as it always has in the past they threaten court action.
eh? they've threatened to quit and started legal proceedings.
agreed.
I am sure the current discord between Ferrari and the giverning body of F1 is only temporary
they didn't mention anything about suing last Tuesday. only quitting.
i wonder if jean todt isn't waiting in the wings, for someone to get the big heave-ho.
it'll be there as long as max is there. if todt does replace max, though...
heh. Mr C and I were thinking the same thing.
But at this point, whose side would Todt be on?
yeah they did. luca i think said it in his letter to max.
this isn't news.
ferrari.
If indeed that technical veto exists in Ferrari's contract with Bernie/Max, they will get the injunction.
how come no one has mentioned it then...?
Because they thought that threatening to quit would cause Max to roll over as he always has before. I don't think it had occurred to them that he would call their bluff
but i thought todt was max's anointed successor?
they're calling each other's bluffs, aren't they?
He is Max's choice of successor. I think his time has gone.
it does exist. however max is introducing a two-tier system to get around the veto.
ferrari can still enter next years championship under the old rules... they'll just get beaten by the cheapo teams.
He was but I think the time for the change was missed and now he has no chance. It had to happen before the vote of confidence.
this will be interesting. ferrari will be arguing that even the addition of a rule should be subject to their veto, even if it hasn't replaced any old ones.
Standard hard ball. Nothing to worry about.
now that todt is in the cold, will FOTA come back and take him in?
i'm not so sure.
But if the case is already in court? There is no precedent to this.
I can't wait to hear Ferrari arguing that the change is outwith the spirit of the rule
No
Only Alianora could answer that.
Oh, not this again...
It'll boil down to how that contract was worded. But I think Ferrari can argue that ADDING a rule is still subject to their veto, even if it isn't REPLACING any old ones.
:D
So at this point, who can they get to lead a coup within the FIA against Max?
I think Bernie will have trouble putting another puppet in the Place de la Concorde so it make more sense for him to abandon the FIA and set up a new series with the teams
i still think todt could do it. he doesn't have to be max's mate to get in. there just has to be enough people willing to vote against max.
Even if Flavio already said that that isn't their intention?
My bet is Nick Craw. He seemed to be the leader of the group of clubs who threatened to set up their own organisation. Since they stayed and have stayed quiet you have to assume they have been planning a campaign since then.
I can't see anyone from the sport side getting it
and there lies the problem. they have to convince those people that max is causing too much trouble. but if max is always sending them "funds" for their projects, how the heck do you convince them?
Flavio just follows Bernie
That sounds interesting... isn't he from the AAA?
easy. he has to overstep the line. and maybe he just has.
That's true. But then, you think it'll be Bernie telling the teams to breakaway, rather than the teams convincing Bernie to join them?
Something like that AAA or Accuss or similar
the member federations don't care for F1 - they care for their pet projects. this works like a government - you scratch my back, i scratch yours.
I would not be surprised if Bernie convinced Max to introduce the budget cap to trigger all of this
bernie is weakened by fota. he's not in a position to dictate. he'll follow the winners.
nah. max has wanted this forever. the crunch has offered him the slimmest of opportunities.
Very good point there... But that would be so naughty and brilliant all at the same time.
The newest tag on Twitter: #maxout
that's an excellent tag.
have you got a twitter account journeyer?
nope - i just keep an eye on people who do. :D
I am only suggesting that rhe recognised the strength of FOTA and created a situation so that they would be forced to sign a longer FIA contract or set up their own championship too quickly for them to haave contracts in place. That way he can buy out CVC at a low price and take a smaller percentage than he had before but have a business he can sell to another mu when the economy picks up.
maybe now is the time?
maybe it is. i'll have a think about it. :)
I have to leave for a couple of hours. Can someone clock me back in in half an hour so that the management don't notice how long I have been away for?
course. consider it done.
From #maxout it looks like Alianora has got her twitter working.
joe makes a fine point:
"This will cause considerable trouble for the new teams as they need to know whether or not they will be granted entries in the next few weeks in order to decide whether or not to go ahead with their plans."
which is exactly what killed dave richards prodrive entry two years ago.
hehe :)
btw, the hotel the hosted the meeting was the Sofitel Hotel.
nice.
does that mean that ferrari's move, whether they win or lose the case, would mean max would lose either way, anyway?
autosport now updated. apparently the teams still don't agree with bernie on commercial matters. presumably that's why he left the meeting early.
max isn't budging and the teams will hole themselves away for further discussion. wonder how long that meeting will be?
For a distraction, someone's put a picture of the Force India in the TechEDin conference at Hyderabad on Flickr.
not sure. he says:
"During the meeting it became apparent that Ferrari has made an application to the French courts, and I don't know the details, but it is to apply for an injunction to stop us doing what we want to do,""
i would assume that a court case would create enough doubt to put new teams off of f1 for at least 12 months.
damn, their new livery is so much better.
which would mean that even if they lose, a lack of new teams would mean all of FOTA can enter uncapped and leave Max's regs utterly useless.
but with FOTA and Bernie disagreeing on commercial matters, does that mean we have a 3-way fight going on here?
without LDM, it'll be a while.
yup. fota / ferrari hold all of the cards.
we do. bernie is in the weakest position, followed by max.
so long as fota remain united, they can do what they like.
easier said than done, though. i'm sure max tried to say whatever he can to divide them. and with no LDM, he knew he had a shot.
all the teams know that two-tier is a road to nowhere. until he offers something more realistic, they're not going to budge.
the danger here is that some agree with max on the cap. if push comes to shove, will they really stay loyal to FOTA? that's the 40-million pound question.
So Max dug his heels in and is prepared to see a F1 season with No BMW, Ferrari, Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Renault.
They have still got 2 weeks to apply for entry. Attempting to call their bluff?
Ferrari have filed an injunction in France. If the courts force Max to hold his horses, FOTA will have an automatic win.
what exactly were ferrari promised?
that they'd have a veto power over new rules introduced by the FIA.
WOW that was error of judgement on fia's part
Max is deluded.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75326
but it'll all boil down to how that was worded in the contract.
From Joe:
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/05/15/now-things-are-getting-out-of-control/
was just reading that. interesting paragraph:
"We hear that Mosley was relatively conciliatory in the course of the meeting, saying that he would raise the budget cap and introduce “a glide path” if it was deemed necessary, but he was then faced with Ferrari and Toyota both insisting that the 2010 technical regulations be cancelled in their entirety because the FIA had not followed the procedures necessary."
fota 1, fia 0
they needed ferrari on board though. the gpma were serious about a breakaway series.
Interesting...
that was a shocking paragraph to read, to be honest. i'd agree with that score. and if joe is right, he thinks ferrari may win their case in paris. would make it 2-0 then.
how ironic, no? it saved them then, but it may kill them now.
seconded.
this looks like checkmate for max. what should be the teams next move?
it'll only kill them because max went too far. if he'd have kept quiet, none of this need have happened.
as things stand? stay together and hang on tight - it's gonna be a VERY bumpy ride.
a good short-term move would be to get to the drivers before max does next week. get them to boycott the lunch, if need be.
irony:
april - sidepodcast side AGAINST tozzi and ferrari, wanting brawn diffusers banned.
may - sidepodcast side WITH tozzi and ferrari, wanting 2010 rules stopped.
agreed. ferrari missed an opportunity.
agreed. the proposed rules suck.
that isn't irony? not in the slightest. that just shows good sense, no?
but who'd have thought EVERYONE would side WITH Ferrari? that hasn't happened since... forever!
a team like ferrari doesn't turn from bad-guy to good-guy in weeks. that's unprecedented!
This season is so surreal. People such as myself actually like toyota as well now, what's that all about!
:P
How quickly things change :)
I think Max and the FIA are going to have to step down from their position. The way I see it Ferrari particularly (with Toyota and the rest of the teams) will win out. By bringing procedures against the FIA there is little left to negotiate. Max has probably already struck deals with teams about the caps and they will probably not be entering in 2010. I think FIA have been incredibly un-democratic in trying to push these through.
FakeBernie - Yes, there has been some progress. It has been decided that we won’t all be required to stand in a circle, hold hands, and sing “Kumbaya.”
parting shot: in 2005, we had indy-gate. we thought that was the darkest day in F1's history.
in 2007, we had spy-gate. that was the worst scandal F1 ever went through.
those days will seem like a Sunday drive in the countryside compared to 2009 and cap-gate.
good night, everyone.
Hehe :)
that's because their most often wrong ;)
night sir.
night!
goodnight
I wanted the diffusers banned - and the 2010 rules changed
d'oh... look what 2009 has done to me. there's a muse song where one of the lines is 'it fuels the lies, it feeds the curse', and i've just typed it out 'it fuels the lies, it speeds the KERS'...
Does everyone side with Ferrari? We have not heard what Williams, Brawn and Force India think.
If the Budget cap is defeated - I wonder how many teams this will forced out of F1 (out of business) by this? How many jobs will this cost?
People tend to forget that sponsorship is not easy to find at the moment - and Williams, Brawn and Renault are all needing to find title sponsors for next year.
Max has done many crazy things in the past, but trying to inject some financial sense into F1 is in essence a good thing. Clearly the current 2010 rules need alot of work. It would be better if the teams could work with the FIA to make it work, rather than this petty posturing.
Evening all. I've had a really good day today and I feel really good too :D
These comments seem to be loading in segments every 40 seconds for me.
That's what the live comments do?
Yup, looks like the comments are loading up in batches of 20. I can't see you responses yet, so I'll sit tight and wait! :P
yes. by design.
evening scott, nice to hear you're good :)
market forces are driving down expenditure and fota are working to reduce costs. they're doing it methodically and without fuss. they're not garnering any headlines as a result.
what max is suggesting is pure fallacy. his ideas are far more likely to force the exit of f1 teams and the loss of numerous jobs, than any amount of 'posturing' the teams might be doing right now.
No, what I meant was - all the comments so far didn't load up all at once. They were all loading up in batches of 20. Doesn't matter now, I've caught up :P
yes. that's by design. always has been the way.
it stops mobile device being overloaded with data and locking up.
Strange. Every time I've loaded up the LCLT before, all the comments so far before I post anything have loaded up altogether, never like that before.
What confuses/annoys me is that we have one figure head in bernie saying the teams all agree on the tier, that a deal has been set, that the cap will remain and be sorted out, then we have another figurehead in max saying say noone had agreed, that they won't compromise, that it's not a crisis, etc...
I think this is what frustrates me so much as a fan, we don't get consistent ruling, we don't get the god honest truth from a united standpoint, and we don't get the opportunity to express what we as fans want from the sport and what the teams themselves would like should the almighty rulres in the FIA not be so arrogant to simply dismiss the ideas for their own personal feelings about budget caps and tiers and allsorts. bah.
I think Max's position is far weaker than Bernie's. Bernie is in a position to provide a new championship with media and cicuit contracts which instantly gives them a viable championship
That might not make sense, actually. Basically what happened is I loaded up the LCLT and there were no comments in today's daily thread. Then after a couple of minutes, the first 20 comments of the thread loaded up and then the next 20 and so on until I could see the latest comments. The comments I posted while I was waiting I couldn't see because I was waiting for the other ones to catch up and load.
Have I been spending too much time here when Iread cap-gate as cog-gate
this happened in lclt?
that's not right at all. what you're describing is how doohickey has always worked. hmmm.
yeah, that's true. but it's going to cost him a lot more than it used too. and more than he wants to pay. but i agree, max is in up to his neck and beyond.
I tried to use the lclt to catch up on the comments I missed and couldn't get comments to load for today's daily thread. The comments for all other threads loaded instantly. I gave up after 3 or 4 attempts and used ye olde comments.
There was a dodgy character posted today somewhere
must be a dodgy character. methinks we may have to disable desktop doohickey temporarily. no time to fix and it's causing more problems than it's solving.
i didn't see it. will go look now.
The dodgy character appears in comment 197 and is quoted in 198
Search for Mercedes
you are a star! thank you. fixed.
lclt comments loaded instantly
Yup same here. Normal service is resumed :)
Cool. Litespeed's possible entry into F1 was the top story on the BBC 90 second update for Look East.
Evenin' all. That's awesome. It proves I am a night owl.
My top words: f1, update], [blog, race, time
the square brackets are because whenever I do a new blog psot TwitterFeed tweets a link to it prefixed by [blog update]
But if the case is already in court? There is no precedent to this.
Only Alianora could answer that. {Comment #277}
I can answer that, but not in the scope of a comment. So I've written a blog entry about Ferrari's injunction application and the likely consequences.
Warning - mentions tea leaves.
It’ll boil down to how that contract was worded. But I think Ferrari can argue that ADDING a rule is still subject to their veto, even if it isn’t REPLACING any old ones. {Comment #278}
Technically speaking, the Sporting Working Group and Technical Working Group have to agree to a regulation change in the Sporting and Technical Regulations respectively before the WMSC can judge it. The budget cap involves changes to both documents, so both the SWG and TWG should have agreed before the WMSC was involved. Since the budget cap was never even presented to either in its current form, Appendix 5 of the Sporting Regulations has been breached.
There are no sanctions listed for the FIA if it refuses to comply with the Sporting Regulations, so there is no form of obligatory redress except for the courts (either the Swiss Court of Arbitration in Lausanne, which has been known to take years to decide, or the French Civil Court). Part of the contract between teams and the FIA is surely that the Sporting Regulations will be adhered to.
Therefore there is a breach of contract on the part of the FIA, subject to any mitigatory/vindicatory information the FIA may possess. Ferrari should have no trouble proving their case.
So at this point, who can they get to lead a coup within the FIA against Max? {Comment #280}
Probably anyone who isn't already in Max's pocket, as long as they converge on one person.
You're right, we need to do more manly things.
It's quite amusing - a search for F1 reveals almost wall-to-wall doom, gloom and budget stuff, then there's one in the middle extolling the virtues of the "Felipe Baby" song. Admittedly, I've had to send a twitter to the author of said Twitter to tell him/her the author, but it's nice to see that song is still cheering people up :)
I have to read the post just to figure out why I need to be warned about tea.
quick question - when Schumi broke both his legs...how fast was the crash. anyone remember of the top of their head to save me looking?
Ummm. anyone got any ideas? We could make cakes for Eurovision tomorrow night? :)
I thought he only broke one leg (left leg).
The entry to Stowe corner before braking is around 280-290 kmh. The car did not slow down much, he probably hit the barriers over 160kmh.
It was about 150 mph. Stowe is the fastest part of the track around 210mph ish. So some braking and gravel puts it at 150 ish
I think we need to blow things up. If only sidepodcast could find Max's front door
grazie :)
From #maxout it looks like Alianora has got her twitter working. {Comment #304}
I have, though I'm still getting my head around #hashtags...
anyways... evening :D
I found the info
The FIA Accident Data Recorder (black box) from Michael Schumacher's car has been downloaded. "Preliminary analysis indicates he first braked at 306 kmph and achieved an initial deceleration of 3.1g ("g" is the acceleration due to gravity: 35.3 kph per second). This then fell to 2.1g. At 204 kph the front wheels locked. By the time he left the tarmac, the deceleration had fallen to 1.3g. The average deceleration in the gravel trap was 1.1g. The speed of impact at the tyre barrier was 107 kph.

evening :) how are you feeling?
How did it go then? ;)
There you are. How were the exams?
Thanks everyone. Some great info :)
Hope today was oka for you. Just realised this morning what you talked about last night :)
well, i'm shattered, my hand is still aching and i used a whole pen full of ink in just 4 hours :s ICT was really tough, and we had an awesome 20 mark essay question at the end :( My two psychology papers were alright, pretty hard going, but i'm just pleased it's all over tbh. 5 down 2 to go...
i'm feeling much better, plus my sore throat has finally gone. have an awful cough still...
and by awesome i mean very hard, and awful... did i mention i was tired.
Oh well. At least you've got it done with and you are nearly finished it as well.
at least now you can relax after all the stress of worrying about today, plus it's all over for the day now though and you gave it your best shot no doubt :) and no sore throat!
well, i’m shattered, my hand is still aching and i used a whole pen full of ink in just 4 hours {Comment #399}
Well done for getting through it, lou. Hope the results are an accurate reflection of the hard work you put into the subjects :)
:) Great effort Lou! hurrah! These are the a-level trails right? I skimmed last night's messages this morning.
yep, just 2 more and they are in early june. Anyways thanks soooo much for the help and amazing words of wisdom everyone last night :)
I still think I understated my point in my tweet earlier today:
#maxout #maxout #maxout #maxout #maxout #maxout cannot stress this enough #maxout #maxout
Big sigh of relief then. :-)
nope they are AS exams.
i’m feeling much better, plus my sore throat has finally gone. have an awful cough still… {Comment #400}
That's good. Now can the cough please go away as well, because I want a happy lou here? ;)
i suppose it's time to start catching up on news and comments and stuff. :)
oops. not paying attention at all when i skimmed. sorry.
I still think I understated my point in my tweet earlier today: {Comment #407}
Well, I suppose a 140-character platform will have its limitations...
hehe :) i'm just sooo pleased it's over, but this cough is getting a little ridiculous, if it gets much worse i'll pop into the doctors on monday on the way in to school (am on study leave so can come and go in school as i please). but much pressure if off my shoulders now and i feel very relieved i made it through todays 5hrs 30mins of exams :)
apparently this forum now is all about recipes and eurovision (I've only read the last 20 minutes worth)
I don't envy you at all. As for the cough, have you been to Mexico recently?
not a problem :) i can't believe i've nearly finished my AS exams... it feels like i was only studying GCSEs yesterday :s
Tomorrow night will be about eurovision fuelled by pizza and wine and the odd look at Day 3 of Indy 500 quals. For me anyway.
FIA and FOTA and Bernie had a meeting today. Nobody agreed anything except while the meeting was in progress Ferrari started a French court case against the FIA because Ferrari has the right to veto any rules it does not like and the budget cap was introduced without them having the option of vetoing it.
How much of the cough/illness was brought about by exam stress? I'm sure you'll feel a ton better this weekend. Also, buy those Vitamin C tablets from Boots and have one dropped in a pint of water.
hehe nope, although my school did have a scare for swine flu last thursday apparently. All is ok though, as long as it doesn't disturb my exams and stuff i don't mind.
:D
Shhh, Christine will hear.
Look at this as a badge of honour, a massive achievement :)
I wonder how many unprepared students thought about bringing in a pig to the exam hall to freak everyone out and get the exam cancelled. Just a thought...
that sounds like a very good idea. well it came on around the start of my exams (last week) so it could be brought on my exam stress i suppose.
I have a hall exam on Wednesday I dont want to do, cheers!
I'll be here. Not sure what food I'll have. I might manly it buy gnawing on some chicken and generally making a mess.
wow. yeah i got a text from Luke saying nothing had been gained from the meeting. So what happens now do they just have another meeting?
eurovision is tomorrow?!
yep :) just in time from your exams
Now FOTA are having their own meeting to decide their next move. More politics for the foreseeable future
Seems to be
Yeah, not worth it since the Polish entry is out though.
Alianora - your last post was in the 14thMay daily - and i can't comment on it. that's a clever addition to the site that i haven't noticed before :)
The whole swine flu thing is/was so overated and over-hyped. I mean, I don't think 75 odd confirmed cases are anything to get worried and screaming about. If it were hundreds or thousands being confirmed every day, then I started getting concerned about it. But with minimal cases, it's just not something to fret over. The whole pandemic thing is rubbish, utter rubbish.
Yep. I was channel flicking earlier and The One Show had a clip of our song. First time I'd heard it. It's dirge. Just your average idendikit female ballad song.
I dunno
it did come with a lovely leaflet
You can change the tab at the top of the Doohickey. As long we don't stray there too much.
wow, shows how disconnected i've been from things recently. i've not had time to ask any friends over now, watching eurovision on your own is never as fun.
I have to disagree with you. It's the apocalypse. First "honda" start winning races and then we get a new plague, and then ferrari leave F1...it's all so obvious...
They'd better do a recap of the ones that were knocked out.
It looks like it is going to be live commented here
Now that thing makes sense :)
ah but your definition for pandemic is different to theirs, pandemic is an illness on 6 countrys.
everyone else's definition is loads of people dying
What next - us winning Eurovision? Pfft.
That's why I'm showing up tomorrow night :) Good thing there's not a race tomorrow to get in the way of the posts..
I hope they do. I miss it already
It is a big event live across a continent on a Saturday evening, of course it is - although I would like to table the motion that we don't talk too much about it tonight.
They should just show all the worst songs as they're always the best songs
I had a great justin tv window last night - for f1 i normally ignore the chat window but last night some of the comments were hilarious. It's a pity Wogan's not around this year, but hopefully it'll still be a great laugh!
ah that's alright then, i wont be alone :)
Is it just me or is this spacewalk going way over schedule?
saving the best for tomorrow. Yeah fair point. So do we go back to talking about recipes? I've got some great cakes on my desk courtesy of the work cafe getting rid of their stock before the weekend....
So what happens now do they just have another meeting? {Comment #429}
Normally, yes they would. With the injuction application, everything hangs on whether the injunction is upheld. If it is, it will be impossible for the budget cap to be brought in for 2010 and Max Mosley will have smoke coming out of his ears. If it isn't, Ferrari will be in serious trouble and I can see every team being either disqualified or not in F1 at all come the time the dust from 2010 settles.
i felt guilty last night posting amessage last night about it - find my post from yesterday night asking for a feed. i was so well... embarrased ;)
With sidepodcast you are never alone
I heard Christine flew up there and moved everything around on them just to make her point.
I think the best outcome out of todays meeting would've been what cakes the teams had agreed to share from monaco onwards thanks to the seeming addition of cakes to the paddock so far this year. The FIA Aand FOTA should be more united in their cake related antics
Unless everyone disappears off to London to have ice cream and picnics...
your last post was in the 14thMay daily - and i can’t comment on it. {Comment #435}
It should be commentable. I don't remember falling over the commenting cable as I left that thread...
What was her point?
NASA never run on time. sorry too vague...
I only meant we would never leave Lou alone. You we would drop in a second.
:)
the option is ghosted and at the time of posting I didn't understand I could change the Active Thread thing up top.
hahah :D aww poor RG.
anthropology hat on
Its known as 'social oiling' and its an integral part of building a community :-)
/anthropology hat
Lou, really glad to hear that your day is over! Cough likely to be because the stress has lifted - pretty normal reaction. Take Zinc lozenges alongside the Vitamin C (or go and buy a bottle of Floravital from Holland and Barretts or any independent health/wholefood store), to maximise the anti viral, pro immune system properties :-)
Oh that point
Oi.
Barrichello-proofing space to make sure he doesn't crash into anything in a rage when Branson and Lauda take him up there?
Should we all come to whereever you are (newcastle rings bells, or is that wrong?) next then?
:)
We like you RG, Stay cool baby :)
thanks LPG :) i'll tell mum that that might help me :D
haha
And yes, lpg, i'm in newcastle, but if we find anything motorsport related up here other than Croft. Then I'll be amazed
Lol - there was a time (about the age of 18/19) that I lived on chips, salad greens and floravital...
Oh... except that I also took a *lot* of coffee and proplus... I don't rec. that even if you are burning both ends of the candle erk!
I just saw this and felt I had to share:
http://newsarse.com/2009/05/everyone-else-in-f1-slows-down-or-we-are-off-say-ferrari/
Today's diet was coffee, pasta and cake. I'm sure there was traces of vegetables in my pasta, but not sure...
NASA announced after the launch that all the spacewalks had been planned in detail and they would all be completed within the 6 hours 30 minutes schedule. They are now at 7 hours 29 minutes
hahaha :D
Coffee still features loud and clear in my current life.. it isn't a day without at least, um, some coffee in there..... As does pasta... and hmmmmm cake....
I eat a lot more veg than the average person though (even in cake!), lol... Not eating animal anything leaves lots of space for that :-D
My sentence about food demonstrates I need to go shopping and not exist on the food that is easiest to take...
interesting website. i'll check it out more. i like the bbc look too.
I'm headoffline now. night all and see you for eurovision live commenting tomorrow!
See ya Scott
night, see ya for a night of awesomely bad music :P
See ya!
Night Scott
I'm laughing so much at this at the moment :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MX5xBJ9GmK4
Warning: strong language at times. :P
see ya!
Have a search on YT for a parody version of Ross Kemp on Gangs. It's so funny :D
ooo Murray's playing tennis in the Madrid Masters in a sec :)
Is it on tv at all?
He's a bit old for that isn't he? ;)
yep sky sports 3 :)
ooh yay! free tv downstairs as well.. :D
apologises if this has already been mentioned but did christine say there was meant to be a mini series this week?
I did. I cut it from the edited show though.
Just a week off for you this weekend then?
So does that mean there will be a live show on Sunday or not then?
Undecided.
Fair enough :)
Although you guys do deserve a bit of a rest personally!
I thought the decision was there wouldn't be a live show this week but one next week instead.
oh right, sorry i haven't caught up with the last few podcasts of late due to exams, but am planning on catching up this weekend.
It really depends on whether we can face talking about budget caps AGAIN, and I'm leaning towards not at the moment.
not sure anyone would hold it against you if you decided you wanted a rest, you had a very busy sunday last week.
Not sure anyone can hold anything against us, can they? ;)
Fair enough. Don't blame you for not wanting to cos I'm sick of it.
Agreed. While it's the main F1 story at the moment, I'm not really keen on discussing it to be honest.
I think we all are, bud.
:D
Oh good. We have a live show on Sunday
If you are going to have a Sunday off though - go *out* and *leave the iphone/gphone at home* :-D
Only if you can come up with something else for us to talk about.
But who will keep an eye on the comments?
Leave the internet? They will get withdrawal symptoms
Yea, we tried that. It didn't work.
Eurovision?
I doubt we'll be watching.
There are all sorts to talk about.
Um, food, alcohol... cinema? A decent gig somewhere? Local theatre?
But we likes the internet.
Anything in particular?
Well, yes. Same here!
Was just trying to think of how you could avoid the 'I'll just see what's in the comments' factor....
LPG has just realised that save a couple of things on iPlayer and a couple of Tintin DVDs she has now not watched 'television' (other than the GP) for nearly a fortnight, and not noticed....)
erm
We wil think of something
Budg...ies.
Budgie caps.
You could go somewhere that didn't involve talking?
Or you could take a leaf from the oeuvre that is Python...
Hehehe.
like little hats for budgies? are they Kimi-esque or do they fit? :D
I've a feeling the budget caps will become an unmentionable soon. No-one wants to talk about them and everyone's getting tired of hearing all about them! :P
I'm not sure why but that forced my to google whether they are or not...
Like I've seen a budgie actually weraring a cap. :P
I've a feeling a certain song contest will be unmentionable after tomorrow.
Photoshop time?
:-D
I've got a pattern somewhere for the 'hats for the top of smoothie bottles'. Those would probably fit a budgie?
in my head thats already happened. i dont care anymore, i just want someone to tell me when its all sorted
How do we explain next season when there is no one there?
"There are all new teams for 2010 after the teams pulled out due to, er, well Ferrari had a fire, BMW went bankrupt, McLaren lied within themselves and lost all the money, Piquet crashed all of Renault cars and they went bankrupt, Toyota just got bored and left."
Me? photoshop such a ridiculous thing!
Blasphemy!
*hides taskbar at bottom of screen*
There must be something else to talk about, this is silly.
You are going to limit the number of budgies each team can have?
There is - the fact that there's nothing to talk about! :D
A silent podcast? That is a bit artistic?
It's got to the point where the FIA just have to take action I'm afraid. Budgies are growing at an alarm pace within the paddock.
"So...............erm...............something.........happened.........and.........erm.........erm......"
F1 is overrun by giabt budgies?
giant
I could be unkind and mention Alex's name, but I won't.
I was thinking along the lines of 'now, you booked an argument....'
Mind you - how long is the average podcast? You could just do a John Cage and have the 'ambience' be the podcast?
well as you know jenson is doing a triathlon thing in london i'll hopefully go and watch.., and that's about all i have to even mention f1 news wise..
John Cage booking an ambient argument. That is an amazing prospect.
You could play Marcel Marceu's album?
I am sure everyone could come up with one subject whether it is how ugly the BMW is or what does Nelson Piquet really know thatforces Flavio to keep his boy in the car.
BTW for anyone interested Gary Anderson has a really good short piece in this week's Autosport explaining how the aero load changes during braking and cornering and the implications of making even the smallest change to the front wing. It is not remotely technical and is only a couple of hundred words.
and do hand gestures
Hello evening, this is surreal.. just walked in on chat about giant budgies :D
ohh wait till you see what I've got ready to post. :P
evening!
That is about the least surreal thing that has been said in the last 15 minutes
Should I venture back through the comments?
oor.... we could give Mr and Mrs C a weekend off?
Hi Lukeh
I want to read the news about the meetings etc today but I don't have the energy.
depends how brave you feel :)
chatting about podcasts?
Evening Jackie.
i like that idea :)
There's a viseo interview with Max on the BBC site .. has anyone given the link yet?
Hi Lou .. feeling less stressed this evening?
They will just get bored or go out into the real world and get ill. We have to save them from themselves. Inside they are safe apart from the occasional temporary blindness whe the studio lights get turned up to 11.
Total impasse. Nothing happened. While the meeting was in progress Ferrari sued the FIA in the French court.
Not sure, don't think so. Don't know if I could take in the info...
Think I'll write a blog post.
Don't think so.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8049816.stm
i'm feeling much better, very relaxed atm :) i've had a lovely long bath and even dyed my hair this evening :D
I've given up on my blog already
I had a good idea for a blog post yesterday but today I have completely forgot what it was.
Ta
Really? Why?
The latest news about the Budgie Cap can be found here
Bad times for f1, I just hope the budgies gets sorted out safely
What?
Lukeh, you bloomin legend. :D
The thought of Kimi as a budgie
Politics?
I already run PF with Mav so when he asked why I didn't write stuff like the two blog posts I did for our site instead it kinda made sense
hahahahaha :D lol!!
Absolutely brilliant
can mav not integrate the blog into PF?
Yes I'm sure he could will have to have a proper chat about it so I have hidden it from view meantime and put my latest bloggy post on PF instead
Good idea.
Excellent!
You have to feel sorry for budgies in F1 when no-one can see in the mirror. Budgies need to be able to see themselves in a mirror.
Here are my latest offerings if interested
Link 1
Link 2
Max is deranged. He reckons that teams don't start designing their 2010 cars for another couple of months yet. He thinks it is still the 1970s
That's genius. We may have to blog it.
understood. if it helps swing him, i'm 99% more likely to follow a blog over a forum. and although i do read PF posts (and many are excellent), the familiarity of a blog layout means i'm far more likely to comment, link and tweet posts.
Thanks .. I guess I have to wait till Jolly gets back from his holiday to discuss things, he doesn't even know about the blog yet .. oops!
I think it deserves to be tweeted.
Err, retweeted, 'cos Lukeh has already tweeted :-)
Ewan McGregor is on jonathon ross... I've just realised how much he kinda reminds me of Kimi...
Haha at the very least. It is pure genius, even the story has budgie caps all through it, that must have taken an age
:o what?!
that must be an old budgie cap picture, Kimi's new hat would have covered his whole head
he's on bbc1 now, or at least will be in a sec to talk to jonathon :)
look at this - does noone else see a bit of kimi in him?
Dammit Ollie, you beat me to it :-)
you likes causing trouble ;)
In an odd way, I sort of do.
I know, but they just need keeping on their toes :D
Does noone else see the funny thing about something about budgies being re-tweeted?
Just me? I'll get my coat. :P
Can I just say link 2 makes a very good point that I haven't seen raised very often elsewhere - the redundancies.
yeah i know :D
erm.. i'm not sure i really see it. but Ewan is rather awesome.
Yep its tweet-tastic
It's not just you
It's hilarious, and the funniest part is the way you worded the original tweet, if someone is speedreading it or is half asleep they'll click expecting a long screed about budget caps to be confronted with a picture of a budgie wearing a Ferrari cap.
Anhone else bored with F1 at the moment?
I'm having the greatest of difficulty to get excited about it...
Hmm, I think its just the political side. Once the racing comes back I'll have my enthusiasm back.
I am, that's kinda why I've had the week off.
I am not remotely bored with F1. Only with Max and Bernie
A little, yeah. As well as all the political rubbish I think we had too many races in a short timeframe straight after the long winter break, so we have had a lot to take in.
I'm so glad you said that, i feel exactly the same
Ditto
I'm not bored of the sport at all, but I am very tired of the way it's run
christine's working on the breaking news story of the day. we need a quote from the man behind the discovery.
lukeh, can tell us how you felt when first reading about about the budgie cap?
Having difficulty getting excited about any racing as well.
no. the field is reversed, the big guns are struggling and the battle is just hotting up.
:D
Same aussi, i have so much stuff going on in proper life atm and i'm just sick of waking up to find another stupid headline
A bit chirpy?
I'm a little upset to be honest, to stop these teams from going to their full potential because the FIA wants these budgies restricted is very unfair and I can't sing enough praises for what we have right now. The teams have seems so chirpy before this saga, and now with this budgie cap, they're just being stopped from spreading their wings of creativity.
bored? not sure i've ever been bored with F1. There is always something to get excited about even if something else is annoying. Atm i'm really excited about Monaco and the gp next week :D
Sums it up brilliantly. I wait in wonder in the one week where F1 is not in the headlines for a bad reason, every bloomin week
But you can't deny there's controversy and politics once again. That's whats making it a bit hard to bear with. Don't get me wrong, the racing's great but everything is else gets a resounding "meh".
awe.some.
hahaha :D
This weekend we have
Moto GP at Le Mans
Indy 500 Bump day
WTCC @ Pau
DTM & Euro F3 @ Hockenheim
a) quite like the politics
b) it feels like we may be witnessing a turning point in f1. one of those things you hear steven roy talking about
What you need is a video to accompany the story .. to the song "chirpy chirpy tweet tweet"
controversy and politics come hand in hand with f1, i've accepted that now, as long as they don't murder this season's racing i don't mind, i'm sure they'll sort it out. i maintain that Max will be leaving F1 long before any of the teams like Ferrari do.
Ah, some good ol' fashioned tin tops :D w00t for the start of the DTM season too.
:D
I'm looking at that and thinking, mweh. I'd normally be up for MotoGP but I'm not there. The others just don't intrest me at all.
and ALMS at Salt Lake.
So Max just wants F1 done on the cheap.....
LPG runs and hides...
I think the FIA is over-estimating the cost of budgies. In general budgies are not expensive. The go pretty cheep.
So are you saying that its *still* his fault....?
They're just trying to cage up the teams once more
excellent.
Wasn't me. Didn't say nuthin
:D
There is a letter in this week's Autosport which says that F1 can survive without Ferrari and it can also survive without Max Mosley and he should remember that.
oh and BTCC at Donington, 'cos apparently they fixed it
The intrest has flooded back into me now
i loved that headline lol
I've said it before...
Max is old.
If ferrari et al can drag this out long enough, the problem will just go away....
Not bothered by any of it. Especially the Indy 500
They appearntly got the license at 6:30pm the other night
You've got a whole nother week of being not bothered yet, this is only qualifying.
Moto GP should be good
A week of qualifying? Good god.
Four days over two weekends.
Jackie - nice posts :-)
F1 engineers not paid anything like as much as you may think though... the recent FiF1 job that was being talked about here paid a small enough salary that its previous occupant had a weekend job elsewhere.... and that was a chap with some serious qualifications.....
Try 3 weeks
Getting back to the budgie's .. do you think Max and Bernie are in a flap?
3 weeks includes practice.
Ooh thanks, as I say it was just a ball park figure. I thought I'd underestimated as well.
I think Max has buried his head under his wing and is hoping that the problem goes away
Littlepurplegoth - If you still need a letter from an overseas scout I have someone willing to help out with it.
I love all this pun stuff, but then I have a weird sense of humour :D
Yes!!!!!!!!!! email is littlepurplegoth@googlemail.com :0
You are owed some chocolate (or something, lol)
I think you've just made a mother and a scout very happy ;)
Ok I will let her know.
Ooh chocolate .. wonder if I've got any
Or maybe I need some Trill
I have chocolate with hempseeds in in the cupboard... its very yummy :-)
A Trill a minute.
Whats a trill?
Actually, are there any more details I should include or just give the email address?
A race of people in Star Trek, or food for budgies.
Um.. I don't know.
If she emails me, I'll send her dd's name and our address etc that way (or if you email me, I'll send it to you for you to pass on if that's easier?) DD is supposed to write with some info about herself and the area we live in. And a letter back in a similar vein, I believe. Although the scout leader is muttering that an email may be OK, but I'm not personally entirely sure as given the issues thus far etc etc etc....
Trill is the 'bird' name for hemp.....
I thought the start trek race were the Tribbles?
I thought they were Tribbles
That's what I thought, the tribbles were like furbies that ate and ate
I seem to remember that they bred and bred rather than ate and ate
Jadzia Dax
Trill are a symbiotic race from the Deep Space 9 series ie Dax.
Tribbles
Tribbles were from the 60s show. Trill are on Deep Space 9.
Mr C has taken over my blog post. Lukeh, you have a lot to answer for.
I think they ate and then bred or vice versa
She was one of those symbiant things. Can't remember what they were called though
Thanks :D .. now I feel old 60's ?!?
How could you do anything so reckless?
Wow, is that a first? :D
Oh, yes.... I forgot about them....
I tend to think 'star trek' = the original and of the others by their own names....opps
That's gremlins
Mmmmm... Dax.... :D
The spots went all the way down... errr... apparently...;)
Tribbles were also in DS9 - Trial and Tribble-ations.
To confuse matters more, DS9 did a show where they went back in time to the original series era and featured in the story line of the Tribbles episode
What have I started?
*hides under duvet*
This is why we need a budgie cap!
and are furry...
oh, gord I've ust remembered something about someone from college... that I'd managed to forget up to now...
Off to facebook to remind them :-S mwahahahhahaha
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Trouble_with_Tribbles 1967 omg
Gremlins don't breed - they sub divide.....
Yes because the captain in DS9 wanted Kirk's autograph
Ah, so past the 'jumping the shark' point where I ceased to be able to stand it.....
Really? I am so ignorant
I've seen that one!!
As in 'never get them wet.'
LPG feels very over exposed to 80's culture and is now wondering if she is old after all....
But that is a funny episode
Or maybe not so old then rofl
For anyone who hasn't seen the trouble with tribbles
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3kHy4fqtpU
Yay :D
Gremlins 2 is much better imo.
Certainly much funnier :D
Love the bit when they interrupt the film being shown and start laughing and going "nudie nudie" :D
And don't feed them after midnight
Oh :(
ASCII character again
Am on it.
I've just had an education .. I googled budgie + puns and I got a link to budgie smugglers .. ahem!
So they say :-)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jadzia_Dax
Gremlins 2 was nowhere near as good as the original
Wouldn't it be easier for Mr C if people didn't quote the character thing so he doesn't have to remove more?
Was that when they started doing the singing in the holodeck bar?
Yes. My fault. At least this time I had to do the editing, so I only made more work for myself.
I am trying to distract him so that Christine gets her blog post back
Yes - and it features Jadzia Dax in an original series miniskirt.
Just learnt something - apparently Sepang was started in 1988.
Too late.
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/15/f1-on-the-cheap/
If anyone else can fit as many bird references into one post as this, I will eat my hat.*
*edible hat once invented.
Two men were standing at the top of a cliff. One has two budgies, one on each shoulder. The other has a parrot and a shotgun. The first guy jumps off the cliff, and on the way down the birds fly away. He crashes on the rocks below and rolls over on his back. He looks up just in time to see his friend jump off too. As the second guy falls, the parrot flies off his shoulder. The guy raises his shotgun and fires at the bird just before he, too, crashes onto the rocks. The two lie there groaning in agony for a bit. Then the first man speaks. "I really don't see what is supposed to be so great about budgie jumping," he says. The second guy lets out a groan. "I'm not too impressed with free-fall parrot shooting either!"
i have more...
I'm all budgied out for one night!
I may have got there before you could do more.
Excellent
They're then joined by a third guy who put two hens on his arms. He says "Hey guys, let me tell you - this hen-gliding ain't what they say it is!"
I have an off topic thought.
Why not restrict teams on fuel. Give them 60l (or less) for a race. The engine has to be internal combustion and you can store and reuse energy. Those are all the rules.
Sure one team would come up with something a lot faster than the others. But the other teams will copy them as is always in F1. Maybe at the end of the season an engine from each team is given to every other team so they can examine it. In 5 years time they would be creating so much power form so little fuel they could patent the idea and for ever fund the sport.
Sorry for the randomness!
someone been watching MotoGp again ;)
kudos to lpg for the title too ;)
You think that is off topic? Compared to most of tonight's conversation this is the closest we have been to being on topic.
OH MY GOODNESS!!! I've only just got it 8-) whooops
Yes. It isn't the off-season. At other online places I've resided, anything relating to F1 is off-topic between November and February..
I mean off topic off topic.
Hay Steven you are the Steven from the Podcasts with the scottish acent right?
The only problem is that Max and co would not introduce anything so revolutionary because one team may gain a huge advantage.
I like how Steven has his own fanclub now.
I have a feeling I should deny it but yes that am me
He may have a summons for me
:D
apparently lou's famous after hosting too. me, i'm just do the numbers.
:D
:D .. he needs a blog
I think that's another stage.
Well clearly you can't be trusted to do the words.
Can I join the, 'Other lot' club then :)
awwwwwww poor mr c. numbers can be fun too!
...kinda....
You just do the numbers badly according to Christine
Get writing then :D
Nah, when I hear your voice I can't stop thinking of Colin McRae. No offense at all.
I just thought they guy was choice! My favorite driver of all time!
How long ago did you last have maths? ;)
You think I should start one and abandon it after a week
I'll update the wiki
How can you go beyond stage 7 of 9
He can't count to ten on his own fingers!!
yeeouch.
I'm halfway through a blog post! I've been writing it for ages and I've hardly done anything. Was watching last week's HIGNFY while commenting.
haha aww.
I've got that when I read one of Steven's posts I can hear his voice :)
Well the kids program Playdays made numbers fun, and when Sesame street used to do them too. Big bird is a hero. :P
Might have to be an intermediary stage.
I actually said after one show last year that I thought I sounded like him but normally I don't. I only noticed it on one show.
I just managed to get Grand Prix 2 running in dosbox on a pendrive, Once I have all my worky type software on there too it'll be geeky lovefest :)
Doesn't that infer that there are 9 stages?
I am getting into your brain
:-(
Although numbers does not ness. = maths.....
Poor budgie, ousted by big bird
Toes?
The alphabet can be a useful 'numbers' tool :-D
But Amy is not stage 9 she is a few levels above that
I do that with a few people, usually Steven, Gavin, Christine and MrC.
stage 7 not 9
Maybe get him some beens and he can use them. Then he could count to 20ish
IndyCarCake
@HVMracing http://twitpic.com/58xb0 - Happy birthday to HVM Team Manager Vince Kremer!
Not Giggles? His is the easiest to remember for me (Thats a compliment Alex)
When are the "weeks" oast, I miss giggles
Ah yeah Alex too. If it's any consolation he was the only one I recognised when I first saw everyone at the meetup - this may have been because Christine was surrounded by a large group and facing in a different direction.
Is there a live show this weekend?
we have nothing to talk about...
That question sparked off the Budgie Cap y'know.
Undecided they say
It could be worse... he could have been forced to become a helicopter.
Budgies
:D
sidepodchat show?
Cool pic of Space Shuttle Atlantis and Hubble in front of the sun
http://www.astrosurf.com/legault/atlantis_hst_transit.html
sidepodchat is on a break atm.
Badgers?
sounds like a good plan :)
Heading off my laptop now so I'll see you guys tomorrow evening after work for an evening of eurovision bliss :P night!
blast from the past!
Too freaky for words, had to quit that after 5 seconds
hmm so I have to entertain myself on Sunday
see ya squire.
We could talk about why NASA is really sending up the LOR
See ya Lukeh
don't hold us to it. something may yet happen.
I just remembered it. Budgie sounds a lot like badger. Think that was the trigger. Haven't seen it for a few years..
see ya!
Night Lukeh, sleep well
Night.
Can we not just stick to budgies...
please?
and there is the comment i least expected to see..ever
Can't stay still. Always moving.
The badgers are just a poor imitation of hamster dance
I'm so hopeless at deciding anything.
Beer or wine?
Beer.
What colour?
Sorry, that was a bit pointless. I realised as soon as I posted that the act of asking decided for me.
we're thinking, as peeps are miffed at the fia, maybe sunday is a good day to bring back tremayning?
Red. Tempranillo. Love Tempranillo. But if I drink red I'll sleep for a long time and I'd like to get my hair cut in the morning. So beer it is.
Tremayne Time?
Gimme that phone
Good idea.
I assume you would welcome voice mails while the peeps are in the mood
I only saw the picture of David that he sent you and a bit about grrrrrrr .. may need a blog post to the background to tremayning first?
brilliant plan.
+44 121 28 87225
Wait, there was one I think. Might be a link on the wiki somewhere
Good point. There are a lot of people here who were not around when it was done before
Um
I may need someone to explain this?
Or skype sidepodcast
Please..
read first: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/09/28/tremayning/
listen second: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/10/05/its-tougher-than-you-think/
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/09/28/tremayning/
Damn you Mr C. One day I'll beat you to it
aww, apologies, sir.
:(
Just thought of the perfect headline
Budgie caps are Max's latest bird-brained idea
have just discovered that bridgestone running green tyres, is actually all scott's fault ;)
Ta. Have decided everyone here is crazy. I think I already knew this.
or Budgie caps, what is Max twittering on about?
What's the best way for a newbie to join in the fun? I've been reading/listening for a couple of weeks, tweeted Mr C, and I guess now's as good as time as any to take the plunge into comments?
Thanks, makes a change from evil, which is what my friends call me.
I'm off to bed. Goodnight all, thanks for the laugh. xx
Insanity is a slow process, don't rush it. ;)
Goodnight
Night Jackie.
But hello Nick, best way to get a newbie in is commenting on some nonsense stuff like we are now. Budgies is popular at the mo.
Scot, How could you?
Believe you just have sir, welcome aboard.
Night Jackie
Double post, sorry. Doohickey had a slow moment.
Heya Nick! and welcome to the mad world of the comments :D
The wiki is always a great place to start to figure out what we've all be up to, but just jumping in and chatting is great too :D
Wiki - http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/?t=anon
Beak first?
Hey Nick
You can join in the conversation in the comments or you can phone in a voicemail to be read on a show or you can be on a show. Entirely up to you. Of course sooner or later if you don'e sign up for a show someone will volunteer you.
Good night Jackie
Contributions always welcome. Theres a twitter page on there somewhere where all of us are on twitter
Well first things first....
Got a job?
Family?
Anything you do on a regular basic?
Well forget about them now, SPC has officially just taken over your life ;)
So if there is a show with Tremayning on Sunday will it be recorded at the usual time?
plus there are lots of useful pages explaining the live commenting solutions and such :)
Cheers guys, Ironically i had a budgie called Nigel (after Mansell) when i was a kid, i guess that's as good a place to start as any, especially as he looks just like the one in the pic...
Remember that link to the Disney Cars short film with Mater in Tokyo Gavin posted last night? I've been thinking - wouldn't it be great if they did a sequel with the story based around Le Mans? I don't know why but I have this vision of a scene with an Aston DBR9 and a Corvette C6.R having an argument on the Mulsanne straight.
I daydream too much.
I just know you are going to fit right in.
i think so. what you think?
There's an email address for John Lasseter somewhere on the pixar website.....
I see David Richards has no sooner entered the LMP1 class at Le Mans than he wants the rules changed because petrol cars can't compete. Stoopid dcision to enter a petrol car then DR.
Can't think of a reason to change it but best to get the info out now when some people may believe that there was not going to be a show
hey nick. sidepodcast is official better for having you around ;)
'Tis a diesel class now essentially. :(
hehehehehe. sad but true.
might have to wiki that as a fine comment in 2009.
Can you put a comment about the show and the voicemails in tomorrow's daily post to give people time to come up with ideas? I assume you had thought of that anyway.
fair point. 7pm (ish) confirmed then.
we will need tremaynisms though.
Destiny at work....
Oooh daily post!!
Maybe it should be our motto towards new people. ;)
DR is arguing along with Oreca? t try and get the rules tweaked
it may scare them off ;)
No job at the moment
Family live on the other side of the world
Drinking?
I guess its all compatible!
It's early for a daily post yet. Amy isn't even awake
'If ya want a wiki job done, contact RG'
ooooh, you meant Jon's. Sorry, was an excellent post mate, soo horrifyingly true :)
woot
Agreed! He's playing politics, despite denying it.
If you are in charge of wiki updates how come the two I was supposed to do after Sundays show have not been done.
So glad I am not to blame
Ah damn.
*runs*
Were be you and where be they?
Perfect. :D
I blame Steven Roy.
err, first one should be 'where' as well
This is sidepodcast. You can't escape. Resistance is Finnish
Good, now he's gone we can bad mouth Timo...
WELCOME ABOARD!
I didn't want to say when RG was around but Autosport put a pick of Timo and his friend in the mag
sidepodmap?
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Listener+Map
Don't think I'm letting you do that, that easily
:D
Right heading off to bed, see you all in the morning. Ciao
night r.g.
Niiiiight!!
Night RG.
How bizarre - ALMS this week is not live on USTV and apparently not aired here at all.
night RG
Found the UK airing - delayed by one week supposedly because there isn't enough interest. So they've gone and scheduled it directly against the Indy 500 /shakes head/
it's cause franck's not driving.
My only regret is not finding this site sooner.. I have been banned, yes BANNED from discussing F1 at the pub on penalty of £10!... had to sustain myself commenting on JA and JS's blogs.
Thanks for the kind welcome¬!
Glad to have you on board, Nick! :)
How did you find the site, BTW?
Welcome to your new pub ;)
I just can't believe the apparent stupidity of some broadcasters. Motorsport outside F1 (and NASCAR in the US) is a niche market. Why split it even more?
Probably some snooker on or something
You need to go on a podcast and tell us why. When's the panel back?
they be quality sites. how did you find spc out of interest?
Not on MotorsTV!
What kind of moron puts US racing against Indy?
:o well we can't have that. never fear you'll be stuck in the gravitational pull that is the spc comments very soon :D
You'll need to supply your own drinks though (unnamed energy drink is one favourite around here, apparently; although rose seems to come up a lot as well.... ;-) )
hehehe. autumn!
Ha! Now you have to try to keep up here. Good luck !!!
We'll be back on Star trek, tribbles and trill before you know it
A network TV moron, that's who. :P
we have x2 different rose on the go today. i have dry, christine, sweet.
:D Or maybe you mean swapping baking recipes. Haha! :P
Are there Budgie caps on Star Trek?
Grrr
just trill....
sweet rose is sooo nice.
I'm on the Green King IPA. Wine tomorrow. Not sure what time I'll be back though.
:D
Yup. Dry is yeugh.
Rose? Don't you get real wine in the UK?
that's a long time away... i mean like long time away. i'll be 18 in the autumn, i don't want to be 18, i'm happy being 17 :P
They are not warped enough to limit budgies. Unless they did it on impulse
You make me feel very old
rose is having a resurgence in the uk.
i agree. i had dry for the first time the other day at my friends house and wasn't too keen on it.
:-) nice one :-)
9 years, i make it?
I guess through twitter (if thats not a cliche...yet!) Following Joe Saward.. found his blog.. he mentioned you guys.. I followed the trail... And now I have arrived :)
Bleah. Give me a Shiraz, Cabernet, Merlot..
you remind me of that movie with zach efron and matthew perry. 17 again, is the name, i think?
*zac efron. yeuch.
you're b'day isn't on the wiki lou?
we celebrated scott's 18th we have to live stream yours too...
Mum and stepdad drink gallons, I'm sure of it.
Also, I like it. Red is out of bounds for me as that drink that one overdoes things on for the first time.
White I can deal with, but I prefer rose, so why not?
sorry :( i wasnt meaning 18 is old, i was meaning i don't want to be 18 because i means it will be my last year at school and the thought of uni scares me a little, lol
An Aside With Joe = Five Pints of Awesome
:D
ahhh, we (hearts) joe.
Ha! You think you feel old.
I'm 18 and finish in 3 weeks......tell me about it!! ;)
Exactly 50% more than Lou is prepared to admit to.
Currently the open bottle here is quite dry... Grolleau based
Although its French so 'd'anjoi' is the terminology I should use... grape varieties being 'new world' (rolls eyes)
I really can't get into sweet wine... apart from anything else its all horribly sulphur dioxided and I just end up with a stonking migraine two hours later so its not worth it except for the occasional exceptional Muscat...
Yikes. I'm in with the kiddies. Better watch myself.
Um. Huh?
Yeah, It is really good, i wish the TV companies would try to speak to journalists more, they have a far broader, and generally more interesting set of views on the sport than many of the team people they interview
Just think how you felt about today's exams yesterday and how much better you feel today. You have to remember those two feelings so that when you are nervous about something you think about the before and after.
At this time on a Friday night it's very difficult not to say f..
it is.... i swear i put it there... you don't remember my birthday! it was last year in october! :(
the wiki says october??
Finish in three weeks not birthday in three.
Oh come on, he doesn't remember my birthday!
:D
yup, 19 in october.
felipe?
I don't have birthdays any more
haha :D it makes me laugh that he remembers Scott's but doesn't remember mine even though it was on the Japanese GP.... and Alonso won... :P
See my comment about 'new world' :-)
We grow all those in Europe as well y'know :-) They just have estate names to go by :-D
Mind you - there is a Fetzer Merlot that is dry to the point of puck and heavily oaked. And only *just* not a rose (as in its a very deep pink in sunlight). But it also runs at 14.5% so is not one that often makes it to this house ( and I'd only be drinking mouthfuls anyway atm, so it would be a waste of a bottle :-( )
Rose port now sold in M&S btw the C's.....
But they're not perceived to be "movers and shakers" - you know how they like to speak to people who make the news. Only the hardcore fans (like you and me) know that a journalist knows waaaay more than what he actually writes.
Yes, I know us colonials are only pretending, but there are a few nice drops around.
Ah that was a fun Sunday, last night as a "boy" hosting my own Podpanel. Only on SPC :D
there's a live show where we celebrated his 18th. we need to do the same for everybody's 18th. it's the only we i remember... did we podcast it?
;)
I'm trying to think of a complicated word beginning with 'f' which would make a good joke, so assume I wrote one here.
haha i've no idea if you mentioned it while recording, i was a little tired come whatever time that was. Just as long as you don't make me go on a panel on my birthday ;)
Fandango?
Actually that wouldn't make sense at all in the context of the other sentence so never mind.
i think you mensioned it whilst recording, because our birthdays were both in the same week
:-D
I'm currently doing a) not too much alcohol so it has to count! and b) sticking to Europe for food/drink/etc (long story, nothing to do with motorsports) and pref. UK of that. So, re-discovering all sorts of European wines (new world wines tending to dominate when you sell the stuff and in restaurants, you end up knowing about them and not the things nearer to home... plus they cost less :-) ) and some interesting ones that didn't exist or were out of my price range the last time I seriously looked....
Finding stuff without blood or bladders in it can be a pita with European stuff though :-(
Tired? or 'Tired'?
food miles?
Eewww
How can anyone make you go on a show?
It's 1:21am on Saturday 16th May 2009 and i'm listening to Giggles "stand by LewHam"
Today is going to be an wierd day
Yeah, its happening a bit more with football and cricket writers getting some airtime. I guess it may go that way with f1 too, until then the revolution will not be televised, it will be sidepodcast
Among other things...
Lets just say that there is a book in it, so I'm supposed to play it close to ones chest, sigh!
Although as I currently have one thing that I'm about to give up on the publisher and DIY it I may say sod it about this one as well... but I'm not 'known' enough to do any toy/pram like stuff :-(
:D
i'd had about 2 hours sleep and had been up since about 4 am or something silly to watch the gp. so yeah i was tired. lol
haha some people are very good at getting others to agree to be on shows, and host them and such.
Aha. Stick with it.
Well, they have to fine it with something..... they don't 'call' it blood or bladders :-D
Rose is a sensible choice in that it doesn't generally need fining though :-)
Felicitations
ooo - to go right back in the SPC way back machine...
Fibonacci
You tell me who forced you and I will sort him out

Bed now here as well... ttfn you lovely people, dream of the birds....
Goodnight Sleepers :)

It's a lie. Don't let anyone convince you that it exists
Good night Lou and everyone else who is leaving
nick, you're a pro already.
am guessing you're a night owl too?
Night all who are leaving.
Yes, although im trying to avoid the prospect of seing the early signs of sunrise... its really depressing!!!!
yeah, we did that last week. i just checked though, and it's still dark. phew.
I did take it too far at one point with a heavy workload Uni... bedtime was 2pm and waking up in time for the news at 10.
Never again!
i can't trump that. trying to think of any time i came close.
sidepodcast is 24/7
it's 2am and... she's still awake!

Drunk!!
don't ask.
I had better write a daily post. Good luck me.
sidepodsleepdeprivation strikes again!
amy!
morning.
Amy!!
its before noon on a saturday. this is a strange and new concept.
wow. good sleeps?
ha :-)
fell asleep around 8.30pm, woops. Now I'm catching up on hundreds of comments from yesterday since I slept through F1 vs F1 airport meeting.
Hi Amy
The night shift is here
You lie. Saturday morning doesn't exist
Are you feeling OK? 8:30
Isnt morning the thing that happens before its time to sleep?
I don't recall ever seeing it before. I might be dreaming.
i think it was the all-night-ebay trawl the night before catching up with me.
christine says "no".
a somewhat later than intended blog post
old comments are making me want to bake a cake. I didn't plan on leaving the house today, but I might have go to buy ingredients.
i guess thats an alternate view...
Good morning Amy, so far my arrival has only driven people to bed, so long live the upturn!
christ. all of that is happening this weekend?
normally its me who shows up just as everyone goes to sleep, so well done!
Surprising isn't it. This is one reason the post is later than intended..
Did you get many lots?
13 :D
I'm not one to nitpick, and I rarely watch the IRL, but Indy Bump day is this sunday, and its probably my favourite part of the whole event. Its a bit like old F1 Qualifying
It's in the talkie bit at the bottom. I didn't include it as an event like I did with Pole Day. All the talk is that three cars will fail to qualify on Saturday. Only one or two of those will get fast enough to bump on Sunday. Not something I'm going to watch for six hours.
I haven't really been following it, but i do remember it being really good a couple of years back... probably up at night with nothing else on and a few beers later it seemed like the best thing ever!
Bedtime. May stick my nose in when I get up but will probably be rushing to get to the barbers before he shuts his door at 11.25am (yet he still stretches the four waiting people to 1pm). Then fingers crossed some golf if it isn't raining, so back here in the evening.
It probably was good when there were more cars. And we thought the ChampCar merger would help car counts!
btw i expect to have a wine hangover sunday a.m. so i'm not judging at all :-)
well their is a silm could be some red ones soon, along with the others...
g'night¬
Indy qualifying is odd. Tomas Scheckter has signed up now to try to qualify

There must be something else to talk about, this is silly. {Comment #536}
How about "How Sidepodcast would govern F1 if Mr and Mrs C were appointed joint FIA Presidents and could do whatever they liked"?
