With the race weekend out the way, we are now starting to realise that Sidepodradio is only week away. Argh! In the true spirit of Sidepodcast, we will bury our heads in the sand, and reminisce about the weekend that was:
- Barrichello took his second win of the year, then. You can hear about the brief details in yesterday's F1 Minute, catch up with the live show replay, or wait for F1 Digest later today. We spoil you with options, we really do!
- Whilst we're on a plugging trip, you really must check out the Parade Lap if you weren't able to join us live. Alex made a special effort as it is the last one for a while, and there's an added bonus of church bells and a special surprise right at the end.
- Yesterday, Scott wrote a post about Fisichella's move to Ferrari - and whether it really was a dream or turning into a bit of a nightmare. Some interesting thoughts in there, why not add your own?
That'll do it for now. I'll be spending my Monday evening editing several shows, what will you be doing? Let us know, and I'll see you in the comments.
ooh i dont feel 100%
Oh no!... Caffeine comedown or is it worse...?
Mr C, just listened to the live debrief and I'm sorry but I don't think I have it wrong when it comes to fantasy racers :P
NFL has just started on 5,
i got 5 mins sleep then realised there was something i urgently needed to do...
i think its too much coke on am empty stomach. I was going to go to the movies tonight but i dont think its wise. Stupid cheap mondays, dont they know monday is a post race day?
Hello all.
Ahh i love diet coke first thing in the morning... really gets you going, but you cant combine it with chocolate as you really will get sick
You were going to the movies on no sleep?
Isnt there a bit of a risk you might doze off?
hey there joe, all a bit quiet tonight, i am heading off in 10 or so.
Did you catch the race?
I did. Sad to see Tonio out early. Glad to see Kimi on podium, and I think it's against a commandment to be upset about Ruebens winning a race.
Heading off, where?
I am reading an article on tonio at the moment in gp+
Was nice to see rubens win, it might have been just me but it didnt seem anywhere near as emotional as his last win which i guess is understandable
Back to bed, i had to leap out in a cold sweat of fear as i had forgotten to do some banking ;)
Yeah, hopefully he's getting used to it. Tonio is still a good friend of Scott Speed. Speed said in an interveiw that he would never watch F1 unless Tonio was in the race. I guess we all watched today
ah yes when i planned the movie trip i didnt realise i would only get 2 hours sleep the night before. I fall asleep in movies even with a full 8 hours behind me so might have to wait til next weekend.
Coke is good for settling the stomach so that is not the problem. Probably lack of sleep and caffeine
Bed is for wimps. Real men drink beer and "livedoohickey" until their typing is unintelligible. (I had to retype that twice)
Seeing anything interesting? I have beentold to see project 9 and inglorious this week which is quite unlikely as i dont go to the cinema all that much on my own
I came back from the cricket last night in just the condition you described, today has been 'recovery'... :P
This wimp is going to bed to watch the Bears and the Packers. For reasons beyond human comprehension I can see channel five in my bedroom TV butnot my main TV despite them both being fed from the same signal.
Been there, a few weekends at F1 races where I was drinking beer for breakfast to cure the night before. Enjoy! I'll probably only go a little while longer, I have to take my truck into the shop tommorrow and I plan on running home, since I didn't run yesterday
As long as the wimp is not a fan of the Bears or Packers
Night, i am envious!
i am off to see up because i heart pixar. $8 on a monday, $18 any other day.
See you Nick!
Steven, you watching the game? (As am I)
Helloooo. For some reason my confused sleeping action has made me wake up now.....
I wish I hadn't crashed out this morning. Not only did I miss the parade lap/start of the race but I'm not tired enough to sleep now :(
Hi ya Allison. Just sitting here watching some football and having a beer or two....
Ooooh cinema. I really want to watch that film about meatballs in 3D :P
Actual meatballs? Hmmm, must mean something else
And I don't mean anything wrong
clearly the solution to not sleeping is womens us open final. Go clijsters!
Now watching Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain on SpeedTV. Apparently Danica is going to try her hand at NASCAR and Lewis crashed at Monza (that I already knew)
http://www.cloudywithachanceofmeatballs.com/
ooh along with the ridiculously over the top stadium they also have a ridiculous opening ceremony.
Any oadvice on the solution to sleeping?
I am reading saturdays Daily comments in the hope it helps...
I hope your talking about NFL, because I agree. Just play the game!
Yes, reading a book is good, I drift off after about 45 min,
i have the nfl on.
The bears need new logos real bad
:-( :-(
I have read, i have spun, i am too wound up after my banking shenanigans
jinx
Yes, the teams need to adjust from time to time. So I guess sleep is not happening
Argh iplayer fail!! I started watching the repeat of today's race so I could see the start and realised that it was Spa they were showing. I only noticed when I heard this gem from Legard "Fisichella's in the lead first!"
It will do, i have read gp+ in record time. (really good issiue, epic tremayning at the end)
and am working my way though saturday... then i will sleep
Or Luca bringing up the rear
Are you still thinking about going to the NFL game at Wembley? My team the Bucs will be there
I was more cringing! In the lead first..... as opposed to in the lead last?
possibly, although the potential to got to the AD GP has made it all a bit more complicated
Mmmmm, Abu Dabi. I think that would be a cool race. Hope you make it. Are you thinking about doing the SPC Spa thing next year?
I hope so, although i hope to have a job by then probably out of the country... so we will see.
Im guessing i will end up at the AD race, although i dont have a ticket yet, and i havent told my F1 hating friend he is going with me,
we love phillips:

I am Bed, night all
yay kimmy! Womens tennis just got interesting again!
you tennis people, explain to me how this is possible:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37qyvTRVus8
Its possible because roger is the GOAT :D
:-)
Good Morning :)
I am the only goat around here!
Morning, everyone.
I see Kimi's being lured by McLaren and Brawn. If it boils down to one of the two, he's more likely to end up at McLaren, I think. Ross has 4 drivers and 2 seats! (He can't just shun Rubens away - he might win the whole shebang!)
a-MA-zing! simply in-SANE! :O
Ross has about as many drivers as Luca :-) and they even share one of them :-)
I was always told that you should never return to a company that you leave...
Kimi would not return to the same company. Ron is not there ...
Very true. Does that also mean he won't be the favourite because he is Finnish?
It does sound like an interesting combination...
That is incredible. Roj is back!
Boo. Did you see who she beat? Poor girl did brilliantly and hardly got a word of coverage :(
My thoughts exactly.
That's the main point, isn't it? Everyone who's had issues at McLaren have usually had them because of Ron.
That said, if you ask me, I still think Kimi's gonna be rallying next year. But it looks like all the evidence is starting to point to him driving for a different F1 team...
Two races ago I would have agreed. After Monza, I am not so sure. He smiled!
to be fair to him, he is doing fairly good job at the moment ... if he becomes available he will sure find good drive somewhere. and his best for new team comes in his first season :-)
and he said "I mean" only once :-)
He's been back since Roland Garros. :D Some say he never even left.
interesting how Joe Saward begins the Monza issue of GP+ mag saying he does want to talk much about Flavio and Piquet only to post long article on the same topic on pages 13 to 19 later :-)
looks like he made up his mind about who is guilty:
Next question - when will Ferrari finally announce Alonso for 2010? Will they do it in Singapore, once the hearing is done? Or will we have to wait until the season ends?
Ouch. I think Flavio will manage to escape punishment, but Joe probably knows stuff we don't...
If I were Ferrari I would start wondering if I want to risk my luck by hiring the driver who was there when McLaren got 100 mil fine, who was there when Renault got in trouble ... This guy is great driver but somehow attracts trouble ...
Ferrari will take the risk. If there's one team that has a Teflon coating against such trouble (for all the right or wrong reasons), it's Ferrari.
Perhaps Flav isn't nice to Joe - maybe that question should be asked in the Aside podcast...
Flav isn't nice to anyone, is he?
Morning all.
Morning everyone :)
Morning.
I would hope he is nice to his missus... and his cats and dogs (if he has any)...
I just realised that as we were in the Food Festival we were going to talk about what everyone was eating and drinking during the parade lap. But of course we ended up talking about Maxi dresses and ironing ;)
Morning. I dropioed a photo for you on my lunchbreak today.
OK iTouch question here - has anyone had problems connecting to wi-fi hotspots that require a webpage to logon since updating to 3.0?
Basically after it saves your details, on subsequent logons it will just stay on the connecting screen. If I wait a moment, turn off the wi-fi and turn it on again, it works fine.
I have tried restoring the iPod but it does not work. Any ideas how to fix this?
I have had problems with these pages since 3.0 too but I don't know how to fix them
Cute... Christine will be impressed :)
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/14092009
Hmm... I googled it the other day but I could not find a similar problem... Home wifi works great though...
This was in a book store. I was confused.
Pandas read books?
Mr C says the ironing was the favourite bit of his whole day.
That's good :) We aim to please and confuse on the parade lap
They're big fans of Nature books?
sadly they were right next to the Twilight display :(
I would have thought they would be using a kindle.
When I go visit them in Berlin I shall have a look. Then I shall smuggle one through Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain, France again, to London.
Tsk Tsk.
Oh yeah the one in Berlin used a Kindle... But at the moment the panda from Berlin is still in the airport.
What an odd name for an e-reader?
Then you would be my favourite person.
Surely the zoo will have stolen the panda back already?
What about this article.... Says you can turn part of it off:
http://www.macworld.com/article/141219/2009/06/iphone_3_wifi_hot_spots.html
He's like Tom Hanks in that movie that I haven't seen.
Ah, I see. That would make sense. I have seen that one!!
oh noes!
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/2635957/Formula-One-champ-Lewis-Hamilton-denies-reports-of-split-from-Pussycat-Doll-Nicole-Scherzinger.html
Thank you - auto join was turned off, but with it turned on or off I get the same problem. I open Safari after connecting to the hotspot and then when I try to load a page, instead of redirecting to TDC I get a black screen, a connecting message and a roundrel circling into infinity...
oh no, typhoon is here, again
Hopefully he is just boating in egypt...
(In De-Nile) :D
*I am on such good form this time of day!
have you had any sleep? I think you are delirious.
You just have to see this comment at the bottom:
:P Have you?!
I am surprisingly awake considering I had 2 hours sleep and I stopped after the 2 coffees and 1 coke. I did spend all day eating a bag of apple chips though, and whilst 99% fat free, they're pretty much 100% sugar :D
*groan*
I like it though.
Time for breakfast!
You don't have a 'nap-in-a-can', you have a whole sleep don't you?
Hehe.. wired!
I had to get up at 9 to do the banking thing i couldnt do last night... So far i have had a kiwi fruit (without skin) A bottle of coke and i am debating last nights dominos or shredded wheat for breakfast
I feel i should do something productive...
pizza! its a good breakfast!
I am deliberately not watching TV from bed because I know that would end badly.
Me too - no idea how to fix it, though. Any ideas?
Morning, Amy and Christine. :)
 See!
Apparantly we need to do sidepodpubbing at somepoint, and do some reconnaissance
today-tonight would make you throw stuff at the tv?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78631
hm, Dietrich not exactly a diplomat when it comes to their engines ...
Hola
not without me you don't!
We are not allowed?! :P
We could Qik! And you could give us questions to ask from the comments!
Good - they have been awful and much worse than the factory ones...
no. No Kiwi bar without the Kiwi.
I have a bowl of them, i could take one along and call it amy? :P
It seems like such an awesome idea, i dont know if i can hold out waiting a whole year!
Why dont they just go back to the Ferrari engines? They dont seem to be too bad and they must have a spare supply...
they are not kiwis. they are kiwifruit. Different. DIFFERENT.
Because Ferrari historically are not good to their customers...
Morning all,
And to think how careful his drivers were not to diss their engines during the weekend!
Thats against the rules now isnt it?
They didnt seem to be too bad to Torro Rosso last year?
Damn. Maxi dress fail. Again.
True, but Force India complained they had old engines. Also, there's the political element involved - there have been allegations that a customer is expected to help the supplier before...
I keep seeing the Kmart maxi dress ad. I think its taunting my hatred of them.
I thought that changed when max altered the engine rules?
Didint Force india have a lot of debt to ferrari?
I was about to say i have learnt something new...
But No! They are Kiwi!'s!
True, but that was last year. And Mr Newey doesn't seem to be too keen on them.
We know nothing of this ad. Regional TV fail, or just selective deafness?
Instead of going to see Up, we stayed in and watched Philadelphia. Sad.
I am never going to your silly country because that is not what they are called. That is just people being too lazy to use the whole word.
here is one line from the long GP+ mag article on Flav and Renault:
Hehe, thats a bit harsh!
But I stand corrected... i will spread the word!
It's also because they keep siding with Max and the FIA. An unpopular move for the fans...
This is RE flav blocking Kubica. I cant see renault being around next year though, I have a theory as to why they are backing Flav, which made no sense to me.
Give him 100% support untill he is found guilty then sue him massivly?
Oh goodness... looks like Kanye west has been up to no good last night...
Perhaps he was worried that Serena was going to be keeping the Rudest of all time award?
Poor Girl (the Singer...). Did you see that Beyonce called her up to the stage later to finish her speech?
What a D.B!
Yes... I am sure she will make an absoloute fortune out of the whole thing, but it was perhaps the-most-uncalled-for-thing ever!
On my tennis forum someone was joking that he was on his way to New York to take Kim's trophy and give it to Serena.
No offense to you, Kim, and I'm gonna let you finish playing, but Serena Williams is one of the greatest players of all time. ONE OF THE GREATEST. I'm just saying.
Um, hi Martin, I love you when you talk about Heikki.
Q. Has he blown his chance to stay here next year?
MW: No, of course he hasn't. We take a longer term view of his performance and his contribution to the team, and he is a great team player and a great asset to this team. At the end of the day, the most difficult thing is to find drivers who are quick, and he is quick, he is technically good. He has lifted his game today and maybe we contributed to that with the wrong tyre choice.
Q. With the complications in the driver market, and Kimi weighing up options here and at Brawn GP, is there a chance your drivers will not be sorted out until the winter?
MW: No, I suspect they will be sorted out in the next few weeks. That is our inclination.
The sooner the better please.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78635
hehehe
What happened with Kovy's tyres? Was he on a different set to Hamilton and the Brawns?
It was odd how he faded away yesterday...
Lewis went Op-Pr-Pr, Heikki went Pr-Op so they started on different tyres. Don't have a clue what the Brawns went with though.
Maybe it was a bad batch?
In GP+ They said Liuzzi apparently had a set which just wouldnt take heat...
JB went Op-Pr
RB went Pr-Op
(assuming the Op was the soft one )
Looking at it from a purely logical point of view - the last time they were on Cossies (2006), they had their worst season for nearly 3 decades. What will make a reunion with Cosworth (who are just running an evolution of those same 2006 motors) any different?
Are Williams thinking here with their heart instead of their head?
Even if that's the case, Ghosn is unneccessarily putting his job at risk. This is just F1, after all.
I get so confused by that. I get my softs, my super softs, my mediums, my hards, but I never remember which is the prime and which is the option.
So they are blaming the tyres, but Rubens had the same and won (and no KERS)? There must be more to it...
the one that is not option is always the prime. the one that is not prime is always the option. does this help ?
blame KERS then :-)
Martin says "We may have made a mistake as a team as we had him on the prime tyre. He had no grip and was struggling. In hindsight, we probably should have started on the option tyre, so that contributed to it. "
and I translate that as "Heikki is awesome and lost solely because of us" ;)
I always hink of the option as the pilliow option...
(This makes no sense to anyone ,and i now look nuts :P)
Tyre strategies from autosport
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78616
from that I will take that everyone who passed him was on softs except for Rubens and he doesn't count because he's awesome regardless of his tyres ;)
I translate that: "In McLaren we do not blame our drivers before we fire them, unless their name is Fernando of course"
The battle to be a Force India test driver is apparently heating up! :D
Its going to look real silly if either of them get a proper race drive at another team...
Surely the driver has some input here.
Heikki just hasn't shown the determination of Lewis.
I translate it as "We gave him a winning car and he could not make it work with his tyres..."
Aren't the Ferrari engines less fuel efficient? I seem to remember being told that at some point this year.
please don't ever take me seriously when I blindly defend Heikki!
Is there going to be a limit to the fuel cell size next year? I cant remember
But. But I do, every time.
Nooo... He might be reading this! You have to mean it!
He is awesome, but he could have done better yesterday I think. At least I wanted to see him do better...
He's great! Best driver on the grid
apart from Lewis, Fernando, Kimi, Felipe, Sebastian....The thing with Hekki this year is he has put some really good performances when his car hasn't had updates on it that Lewis' does, clearly they need to take something off Hekki's car :D
I think that Spa was the perfect example how fuel efficient Mercedes engine is. Ferrari will need to do something about that, otherwise they will pay really heavy (literally) price next year
He's becoming the new DC of the team
Doesn't the engine freeze end this year?
I do not know why every time I see Heikki I start to think about those two crazy MTV cartoon characters :-)
theres always one, it's just normally the non Finnish half!
Ferrari cars stopped one lap earlier than the fuel figures predict, so I agree they are more thirsty...
He needs to do better if he wants a drive anywhere next year, thats what needs to be worried about, i think the mclaren dream is gone...
no, it does not, but even with the freeze there are areas the engine makers can work on
That's really true. However, it could be good for him - look how long they kept DC
... and I believe Fisi went further then predicted (and that time he was still powered by Mercedes)
I think it was mentioned in Spain where Massa was being chased down by Vettel. They didn't think he would have enough fuel if he kept pushing as hard as he was, in the end he had to slow down to make to the end of the race.
Morning all!
When does it end then? :)
well nobody knows in F1, first it was 5 year freeze, then 10 years or vice versa :-) now they are talking about brand new power train from 2013 so that is probably the end of the engines as we know them these days
Ah ok :D
It is intresting though Red Bull have had a lot of failures yet the Renault works team have had none. It is that more because this years Renault car just isn't that good?
Morning! How's Jon?
Sleepy but good ta, am having a writing morning!
Yourself?
have to make move before the whole city shuts down because of the typhoon. no umbrella, no good :-(
It could be to do with the Newey chassis. He is known for going very hard on things like cooling
Very good. Have just found out I can't have next Monday off, which I had thought about doing to recover from Sidepodradio.
So... nobody talk to me next Monday :)
Webber: It's not the Renault engines at fault.
Mateschitz: It's the Renault engines at fault.
:-D
I reckon Geoff Willis' departure might have come back to bite them on the bum.
Hum. I suspect they are unlikely to have Renaults next year then
ehehe
Bingo! I knew it there was something missing at RBR. He left around Silverstone time, right?
He did.
So was he driving the development engineering? RBR just seem to have stopped still. Not a good sign for next year
Speaking of engines...
So engines are Toyota's downfall...
5LiveF1 just tweeted Lukeh... has he been sending them photoshop goodies?
I always saw him as the counterbalance against Adrian Newey's aggressive designs. As a duo, they've done very well - especially during their time at Williams.
Now with Willis gone, Newey might've started to become over-aggressive with the car's development, risking their reliability and harming them as a result.
in good leave news, I got my Christmas leave approved today. I'm going hoooooome, yaaaay.
Yeah, good point. I think that's how he went at McLaren, with the ill-fatred MP4/18
that is absurd.
williams want mercedes, i'm sure. and now maybe they think renault might not be around.
but there is no way williams are choosing cossy because "it does not wish to be dictated to". frank slated them before christmas, said he didn't like them when he last had them.
I have not seen any evidence of Mercedes dictating to anyone.
Williams may have lost the race for a Merc however.
I think he is still annoyed about the whole Nakajima thing, he wants Kubica for next year, and if he has to go to Cosworth to get him then thats what he has to do, and hope he can pick up the spare Mercedees deal.
BTW joe speculates Mclaren could be on the way to using their own engines....
and that's fair enough. but cossy are with very definition of sloppy seconds, if there ever was one.
Maybe that's why they are still not ruling out KERS for next year
Renault, were saying he couldnt have their engines if they signed up Kubica ahead of them...
It depends on what Red Bull decide to do. JA indicates that the only thing stopping an RBR-Merc now is approval from the FIA and McLaren. If they don't approve of it, what chance will Williams get that a Williams-Merc would be approved?
Williams have to start looking somewhere else. If Renault pulls out, they'll be left with Toyota, Cosworth, or Ferrari.
Can they do that? I thought there was some rule that engine supliers were required to supply engines at a reasonable price. Surely that could only dictate terms if they were giving them away.
Why not... they just say we are not sitting sown at the table untill you have made it cleer you dont want rob...
Its typical Flav
axis have a fab comparison of lewis' last two laps.
plus an 81 minute video showing just the onboard camera for the whole race!
But would a Williams-Cosworth package lure Kubica? Methinks not.
With the MP4-12C out now, it's a matter of when rather than if, really, I think.
That said, they'll be the first motorsport team to become a full-fledged manufacturer since... well, Ferrari - and that was before F1!
Thats cool, thanks
Interesting!
Isn't that just the BBC feed? wonder how long that will last!
it's better quality than the one i was watching.
Wow, There seems to be less than half a tyre width in it. He just went too far on the exit
Were you watching on the website?
BBC have supposedly reduced the quality of their online video at the request of ISP's
Where does he say this?
Just about. It looks like the car got ever-so-slightly unsettled by taking too much of the kerb at Lesmo 1. As a result, he drifted out wider than he did on the previous lap, and made the ever-so-slight contact with the gravel, causing him to spin.
In GP+
Its at the end of the interesting article on The MP4-12C (P38)
I'm guessing GP+.
OK, that does it. I subscribe tomorrow. I really shouldn't have waited.
Amazing how they get this right lap after lap.
hehe, there are only 4 races left, but i suppose you do get 3 years worth of magazines...
Just as well they should, given how much they're paid to do it. :D
I have a pile of old Autosports. I would rather have PDFs anyway.
We have just watched the top gear with ken block. It was some of the best cinematography EVER. Zoe feels that rally drivers are the best drivers and that circuit racing makes no sense. the segment may have inspired her to have another go at learning to drive!!
:D I was watching that too. Now some silly skiing thing
Any oadvice on the solution to sleeping? {Comment #36}
Set the defragmentation programme going on your computer and set it to show full details. The repetitious patterns of the blocks changing colour will set you to sleep in no time.
Just noticed Autosport International tickets for next year's event are now available.
If previous years are anything to go by, wait a few weeks/months before purchasing, when promo codes become readily available and you will be able to get two for the price of one etc.
Or:
Webber: I might have to drive with a Renault-powered team later so I won't burn any bridges
Matey: Never again do I want a Renault engine!
are you going then? not sure we can be arsed.
Well, Briatore is Webber's manager...
:)
Before i go and be busy today, i'm going to say 2 things....
I LOVE this picture, and the way the champagne is on his back
AND....can i officially start a "Jenson to Ferrari" rumour?
#sorrylou ;)
Interesting point by Ant in the 5live podcast about the similarities between Lewis's crash yesterday and PK's crash...
Could that be useful for Renaults defence?
99.9% no at the moment.
Though I think I said the same last year and ended up going after a mate won tickets through a Roary the Racing Car competition.
He also had to correct a mini-slide mid corner too...
hehe!
It looks like less than that! Thats just very unlucky
Rubens in a car wash...?
hm, Dietrich not exactly a diplomat when it comes to their engines … {Comment #119}
I can very well see why not. If Mercedes doesn't get approval for supplying four teams, though, he may yet regret those words.
Indeed! Thanks for reminding me. Just shows how careful drivers have to be to 'toe the line' these days...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RER94lCnHYE
Rubens at the car wash, the car wash yeah!
I feel a song coming on
Why dont they just go back to the Ferrari engines? They dont seem to be too bad and they must have a spare supply… {Comment #126}
Because Ferrari already have a customer supply and would need the same approval to extend their range. Unless they want to dump Toro Rosso into major engine trouble...
I can't see McLaren being too forthcoming in allowing Mercedes-Benz the opportunity to supply Red Bull with their engines. I don't think the FIA really care to be honest.
can they pull out of the force india deal?
He may as well say them - even if he is stuck with Renault he will force them to address the issue...
Of course, next week's decision could see them leave F1 altogether, engines 'n' all. That would leave Red Bull in a pickle.
Of course, next week's decision could see them leave F1 altogether, engines 'n' all. That would leave Red Bull in a pickle.
Oh double-commenting-goodness.
,
You can say that again ;)
So if they up and leave, who could Red Bull turn to instead of Merc's?
Anthony Davidson agrees!
I'd pack up and go home if I couldn't have either. Cosworth is likely to be woeful, Toyota is apparently pants as well which leaves Ferrari - which Newey isn't fond of.
I thought that changed when max altered the engine rules?
Didint Force india have a lot of debt to ferrari? {Comment #134}
Ferrari had three different engines homologated due to their supply arrangements at the time of homologation. Therefore they were able to keep the best of those engines for themselves and give the lesser ones to their customer teams. The only reason Toro Rosso got the middle one of the three engines was because they did a mid-season chassis redesign that, among other things, accomodated it. Force India didn't have that option because it was conserving resources for 2009 - a decision that paid off in the long term but forced them to use the worst of the three engines Ferrari had homologated.
The debt to Ferrari must have dated from after this started because Ferrari have in the past withdrawn an engine supply for one season when a team has had debts from the preceding season. According to F1 Magazine (February 2002 edition), in 2001, they issued an ultimatum to Prost that they would only continue to supply engines to them if they paid 2002 and €10m of 2003's supply because Prost still owed a lot of money from 2001's supply and Ferrari wanted to know that the rest of the contract would be respected.
Bonjour
Hope you're all well, I had a look back through the race comments and it seems an even split for the hammy crash - some say that's 110% racing others not...
Dare I say has it been discussed lol
The mark of a good driver, on the edge, never giving up....
Maybe it was a bad batch?
In GP+ They said Liuzzi apparently had a set which just wouldnt take heat… {Comment #151}
He did? I've never have thought it from Tonio's performance...
It was the set in Q1, he was 2/1000ths off Sutils Pace!
It's great to see Liuzzi do well, he deserves a good chance!
It was bittersweet watching Luizzi cruise past Heikki, half of me was shouting for Luizzi to give it some the other half was appalled by how much Heikki keeps letting the team down!!
How did the podcast go last night (was there one?)
Aren’t the Ferrari engines less fuel efficient? I seem to remember being told that at some point this year. {Comment #166}
They definitely are less efficient. I did a blog entry demonstrating this, showing that Ferrari's engine had only half the improvement over the Formula 1 Yearbook figures compared to Mercedes (all the other engines in F1 are in between).
replay here rcc:

(no-one died during the making of this show)
i remember that. I plan to something similar at the end of season, if that's ok with you?
This site looks way cool but I fear I would be laughed off it.
http://www.icheckmovies.com/
Hi all,
the f1 news last night - they were giving some drivers scores out of ten with their performance at monza. Liuzzi scored high which i was pleased with. they also gave ross brawn 8 out of 10, and the tv director 2 out of 10. it deserved it.
greeting from firenze where we've had two thunderstorms and it"s only lunch time.!
Was the Hammy crash debated to death? What was the sidepodcast stance? I'm sure that caused a few rucks/deaths. I just loaded up Autosport forums, took one look in and thought better of it!
When does it end then? {Comment #186}
The engine freeze ends when 2011 finishes, in theory.
umm, one line i think. something like:
"he's not fighting for the championship, so good on him"
was hardly the story of the race tbh.
OOh that looks interesting... i have joined.
They will laugh at me more! :P
hey scott!
Hello
I thought it was foolish, but unimportant.
Thinking about it now i wonder how much he had other things on his mind...
Can they do that? I thought there was some rule that engine supliers were required to supply engines at a reasonable price. Surely that could only dictate terms if they were giving them away. {Comment #213}
Max has wanted that rule imposed for years, but he's never managed to get it written into the Technical or Sporting Regulations (the requirement for tyre manufacturers to supply teams at commercial costs or below was inscribed in the Sporting Regulations in the days of tyre wars). It may be that such a stipulation features in the new Concorde Agreement.
I am glad he is adopting the Ricky Bobby mantra considering he has nothing to lose. Good on him for racing all the way!
I may have to watch again just for Mr C's reaction to my Fantasy Racers statement. :D
Hello! i popped in last night briefly to say hello. i thought about organising my trip around monza but figured i wanted to head to other places. so i just watched the f1 on tv like all of you! still hanging around italy dealing with immigration for the usa. more paperwork, and still techinically a few weeks left of my italian job but its days are numbered.
on italian tv he made a quote like "if you are racing for the championship, mistakes like that are really bad". emphasis on the word IF. he felt bad for the team though - points for constructor would still have been appreciated.
Heads up: Max Mosley is on Sportsweek. Haven't listened to it yet...
I like that he was still trying. That's a lot of what I like about Vettel as well. He won't stop chasing toward the end of the race (even if we all know he won't get past, and he's trashing his engine.....) :P
Also good afternoon!
I can’t see McLaren being too forthcoming in allowing Mercedes-Benz the opportunity to supply Red Bull with their engines. I don’t think the FIA really care to be honest. {Comment #250}
The FIA might, since its leader Max Mosley seems to want independent engine suppliers (read Cosworth) to predominate now irrespective of the cost.
Its easy to say that now, but if he was driving around with that attitusde on the last lap he could have taken out Jenson.
If that had happened the whole internet would be taking about how his ego couldnt take jenson's success...
Mr & Mrs C, I've finished the Travels In Sidepodland segment.
Just uploading it now.
I'll send you the link, and Nikki too. I think she was ultra busy this weekend though.
I haven't got Steven's voicemail though. Did he send one? The wiki says so. I don't want to miss anyone out.
can they pull out of the force india deal? {Comment #251}
If the rumours that Force India hasn't been paying its bills is true, then possibly.
Otherwise, Mercedes can't pull out because there's four years of contract left to go. I still think that the rumours of the Mercedes debt is more likely to be the team doing its regular trick of paying at the last possible moment rather than an actual inability to pay.
Hmm. I have been sending all the files to Nikki?
I felt terrible for the team, all that way and coming home empty handed..well 1 point if you count Slowvalainen's performance.
I really enjoyed yesterday's race, not the result I wanted but a good one to watch. The pitstops were really interesting yesterday and defo a welcome addition (IMO). Gutted for Luizzi but heigh ho.
Why on earth would he dump Nicole, she's hot!
I plan to something similar at the end of season, if that’s ok with you? {Comment #267}
Absolutely. It's entirely possible you could see something I've missed and besides, I don't own the internet ;)
Don't win championships by accepting second places........
Cheers - I still think if I do something similar, the least I can do is ask...
You dont? Well who does then. I need to sort some stuff out......
But he wouldn't have.
I heart this comment!
what?is that thing over. wow.
i liked aspects of the race but was almost falling asleep at a few points. the simultanteous pit stop stuff ups were interesting, even if the coverage wasnt too good of them. i was struggling to grasp what was happening.
we have talked before about coverage of us car sports - i would love to see when a car is coming out of the pits - labels on the cars coming down the straight to say who was who. it really would not be hard. cmon bernie!
i havent done mine yet... is it too late?
i could probably record this afternoon... If it is dont worry
Allegedly....
i think a finnish person owns it but i'm not sure.
Yeah, but there are 2 files with different names, but are basically the same thing. Alex's piece. I'll try DM'ing Nikki on Twitter again.
I'll e-mail you the link to the current file though.
I have 30mins already, but I like a challenge :)
He was only 2 secconds behind, if he had locked up on the way into a chicane instead of loosing it on the way out of a corner, it could easily have happened.
I am all for drivivers pushing the limit. but I think lewis had a failiure of common sense on that last lap.
There were 2 guys fighiting for the championship, he didnt need to get involved, and he was lucky he didnt
Can you not that see that in live timing? I find after watching LT for a few races yr almost able to visualise where everyone is in relation to each other. Get yr self a map with the sector splits on and yr laughing even more...
Has she been sending them on to you then? Gavin's and Amy's etc?
i am so glad i dropped it. only entertainment news i haev seen is about george clooney in venice with his italian mtv host lady friend
Did Sutil hit a mechanic?
Not to worry then ;) I was worried you were stuggeling for content ;)
no LT yesterday - just hotel land with tv and no internet and a bed that was tempting after climbing the tower of pisa in the morning!
I fail to see how you can be then if Lewis lost common sense, he's not in the championship but his team still are so what's the beef?
Yup and Kimi ran over someone's foot.
he hit someone who looked more like a supervisor standing there with nothing to do.
well, he must have watched too much Kazuki on TV :-)
And lost a wing mirror too...
Pain!!
I feel naked watching only the Tv feed now lol
Pisa? How high they let you go inside of it?
It was the last lap. As i see it he wasnt racing, he lost his head
Pah, is that all? I went to a dusty MTB race in a padock
:(
I think that guy dived :P It looked ridiculous!
booo
yeah i miss having three thousand windows open but i coped :)
pisa - all the way to the top. it"s a bit freaky if you're tall because the safety barrier in one place is pathetically short (up to 80 centimetres). the cool bit was walking up - narrow passageway leaning against one wall, then 30 steps later realising you were now leaning the other way. very odd. one of those things to do in a lifetime (bucket list). oh and the sistine chappel and michelangelo's david are NOT overrated.
Between the two of them it was like the sort of pit-stop I'd imagine happens in the car park at Faulty Towers....
Yes, I've got them. Just Steven's.
Will forward it on to you later then.
hehe. he it really wasn"t a lot like today - shopping and listening to bad music in internet cafe. with money running low. should go back outside.
speaking of ridiculous watch this video of sheep playing games.
He wasn't racing? what?!!!
The race was 53 laps not 52, I see why you're saying he should turn down and cruise to the end but that's not racing really is it? His team are desperate for the points, he was reeling Jenson in and on that last lap and there was traffic up ahead. I'd be riled if my driver just accepted where they were and trundled around to collect the points.
What point should a driver give up then?
:D I loved that part of Italy. Wasn't there long enough at all
he learned from the bestest.
Thank you, :) I've e-mailed you the link to the current show.
Hahahaha That is brilliant!
i don't think anyone is paul ! where i lived for years was not really italy. i like it down here.
hmm, see i was under the impression lewis won last year's championship by coming home 5th in brazil?
Awesome! I've spent quite alot of time in Northern Italy (Verona) and never been to Pisa. Doing the Spa - Monza drive next summer so will make me and gf check it out
:d
i have lots of advice :) (i.e. never short of an opinion)
I meant " :D "
Stupid Caps Lock!
I'll leave you all now, got to visit my Sister, it's her birthday.
And I have even more respect for the work you guys do in making Sidepodcast. I'm only making a 30min show, and that's taken me hours!
Bye!
hehe. laterz startledbunny.
I am not saying he should get up... I understand people see drivers as beyond criticism and whatnot so i will quietly back away from this agreeing to disagree as it is a never ending argument.
I dont think he should have backed away, but i belive his emotions got the better of him and he wasnt pushing for a logical reasons. His lack of regret at the end of the race would seem to back this theory up.
I like the guy i really do, but he does tend to be quite petuclant when things go against him, and i belive that is what happened yesterday. I am not saying he crashed dleiberatly, but that he was pushing far to hard because he was angry.
He did which was certainly underwhelming to say the least wasn't it?
The point is you have to go out there to win championships, you know that picking up second places isn't the way to convince everyone etc you're a worthy champion (Think Keke Rosberg - 1 victory in 1982 etc)
pisa - not sure how long i'd want to stay there - i suggest doing it was a day trip from firenze which is what i did. and get to siena if you can. most people that go there suggest it - i leave tomorrow to spend a few days there.
internet time running low. see you all in a virtual way next time i drop in. good luck with sidepod radio!
I think you read it wrong. He just wants to enjoy and race the rest of the season which is a dead rubber for him anyway. That's why he has no regrets about it...
He's certainly shown that in the past, so I take your point. I thought he was maturing this year. You're right - he had very little chance on the last lap. Still, it is nice to see a driver clearly going hard
doesn't matter. he did win the championship by accepting something other than first.
by your reasoning, we should have bernie's medals system in place, because anything less than a win is worthless.
you think keke is worthless?
cheers, have fun
Who's seeing him as beyond criticism? I don't see that on these pages?
The lad pushed hard to end, messed up once on a kerb and look where it got him. Just because he crashed doesn't mean it's not his fault. We can all see it was his fault alone, that doesn't mean though he was wrong to push which i feel is the point yr trying to make/defend etc
bye scott.
Indeed. It shows maturity. BTW later in the week I plan to have a look at the medals thing to see if it would have chamged the scope of the championship.
I think his son is :P
With medals, this championship would have been over after 6 races.
I think it was anyway, but that's another story
sounds like you need a post fro gavin to be sure :)
No that would be a stupid idea (medals), Lewis won his championship by winning races and fighting for postions all year long. You are going to get you're bad results (God know Lewis had a few last year) but you need to fight for every single point, championships being so close over the years have proved 1 solitary point can make all the difference.
No worthless is a very strong word to use, I don't think any driver is worthless but when you look back at the 82 season and all the turmoil it endured history shows us that Rosberg is the champion but looking deeper into the year you'd of seen a couple other worthy contenders (Villenerve, Pironi) that weren't racing at the end of the season who dare I say it probably would've taken it from Rosberg. 1 win is hardly a great stat on winning WDC year though is it? Regardless if it was Schumi, Lewis, Clark, Hill etc.
:D yep
Morning, all.
I got Steven's clip to StartledBunny (comment 286). And can I just say that he (StartledBunny) is my new hero. Travels in Sidepodland sounds so amazing all put together!
Yay! Can't wait to hear it :)
If I'm not mistaken, it would still be alive right now. But the moment Barrichello fails to win a race from here on out, Button is automatically world champion.
Oh, Vettel should still be in contention. But he also needs to win every race from here on out.
Technically. Thing is, if you get a start like Jenson did, then really only one driver could seriously challange with the medal system
Maybe F1 needs something less medally and more pointy, where you get points for everything ... fastest lap, qualifying on pole, etc. kind of like (urg) NASCAR (ahem ... sorry) -- or Fantasy Racers.
Christine, with Steven's clip, "Travels" will be 35 minutes long. is that okay, or do we (and be we I mean startledbunny :) ) need to shave to get it down to 30? He's already sliced and diced quite a bit.
#sidepodradio
I'd like that even less than a medal-based system - I surely don't want to see people in the back going out on fumes just to score a fastest lap, or the title being clinched somewhere outside of the actual race.
I think the points system should be left alone. We've had some awfully good championship battles over the last few years.
Despite everyone writing this year off months ago, I've enjoyed every minute of it. The fat lady is warming her vocal chords, but it isn't a done deal yet.
I really enjoyed the small Toyota battle towards the end of yesterday's race and Lewis kept me in suspense until he lost it.
Pretty firey stuff! :D He winds max up quite a bit, but max was never going to say anything...
About 52 mins in...
I am not a massive fan of the current points system, i would be quite happy for them to try something different.
To play Devils Advocate: Whats so much better about coming 6th than qualifying on pole?
well, one day perhaps point or points for pole may make sense. but not with this race fuel qualifying ...
Cheeky plug at this point :D http://f1loonie.wordpress.com/2009/09/07/8-how-could-the-championship-look/
Exactly. I'm not saying you should get a lot of points for pole, or fastest lap, and a team wouldn't want to throw out their fuel strategy for the race just to get them, but it would shake it up a bit more, maybe?
[checking out cheeky plug. I like cheeky plugs :) ]
Interesting. thanks for the link.
Hehe no problem. :D
I guess we'll have to check with Steven and Alison, as it is their show that follows yours :)
Just sent Steven a DM tweet.
It's a tough line to balance on...I don't wanna see point handed out like it is in the lower formula's etc. It makes it almost worthless to see Driver A has 348 points vs Driver B's 273...The numbers get so large it becomes hard to follow and illogical on the outside to understand.
That said I wish there was some reward in pole position, fastest lap, weekend hat trick etc. Even just a single point for each would give some reward whilst not OTT.
Some News
Santander have extended their deal with McLaren, but decine to say how Ugly their trophy's are
Jackie Stewart says there were people in the paddock who wanted him to run for president, I assume Max wasn't won of them...
One thing that is spot on that's been tested to death is the qualifying format.I love it the way it is, still not decided on fuel loads as I like the intrique but it's good to know that so and so was on a glory run etc!
Do we need breakout threads for these?
I think knockout quali with low-fuel Q3 next year will be epic. :D
I dont think so, nothing all that major really (Yet anyway ;))
Maybe for the one with JYS? Depends on whether enough people would be interested to talk about the what-ifs...
It will be awesome, true raw pace hopefully will be unleashed! So does that mean we should see the same times between Q2 and Q3?
Put Fisi's debut in context, and compare him to where Badoer would have finished. Hes doing just fine, new car makes things much tougher for him
Maybe, but if you look at it in the Context of Liuzzi, it doesnt look all that great though...
Here is one breakout: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/09/14/mclaren-confirm-santander-partnership-extension/
JYS coming soon.
No but taking into account everything Luizzi would probably just slightly nudge it on who did better. Fisi did much better then Badoer would've done and I thought he did a reasonable job for his first race out in a totally different car. His laptimes to Kimi albeit slower were nowhere near as embarrassing as Badoers.
Luizzi was the best newbie performer of the season helped by a car right on the boil at the moment.
Done: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/09/14/sir-jackie-stewart-was-asked-to-campaign/
I think Q3 will now be slightly faster than Q2, but given how close the whole field is right now, it probably won't be by much.
But Liuzzi would know the FI better than Fisi knows the Ferrari, I think, given how long Liuzzi has been with the team.
Just found this photo manipulation in this article. Ferrari's 3rd car?
Has Dank's tweet been mentioned here?
Mind you, the last time he ran a team, it didn't go so well...
Ah yes, i saw that last night when i was trying to sleep but it was espns f1 site...
Would certainly be popular in france... Hopfully it means they want to stay in the sport, I cant see him taking it if its just untill the end of the year unless he has bigger plans...
Maybe, but in the context of Badoer, I would expect ferrari to have better simulators and he did get that testing/PR session before Valencia.
Then again maybe BAD isnt the best comparisson :P
Great quote from Rubens:
Love It!
:D :D :D
Prost Mk II?
:D
Can we give this a try, without Rubens?
I'm seeing stories about PK Sr saying Alonso knew of the plot. This better be a translate error, or else the feathers will really fly.
Now this is Interesting...
Ed Gorman thinks the leaks in the PK case could be members of the FIA using it to drown out anything Ari says...
Its a bit of a conspiracy, but its certainly possible, Very interesting...
it'll only work for about 7 days. what's the point?
Am getting a 404, but I remember seeing it last Friday. Opinion is divided on this one, with Joe saying he doesn't think Max and his cronies is behind it. Either way, this shouldn't be happening.
Ari is running out of time... there is only singapore left before the elections?
Grand prix are his best chance to get his message out to club members all around the world, and theoreticaly leaderships...
Interesting that max's spin doctor has left his post... i wonder if he is involved in the PK case at all?
how his pimping himself to f1 teams going to help him? they don't have a vote?
OIts more a question of getting access to lots of media at once, he can do the odd interview for say a southafrican newspaper, but what he really needs is to get on wire stories which will be read by people in virtualy every country.
The biggest hurdle he faces are people with votes who are short on information. He needs the publicity to break though the barriers that will be thrown up saying only he can be trusted.
i think nick is referring to a media war - anything but ari.
that said, i don't see how sing-gate and the leak would make max (and therefore by extension todt) look good to its voters?
By Todts campaign/ the status quo saying that...
They will have access to the people with votes, Ari wont.
You dont? Well who does then. I need to sort some stuff out…… {Comment #293}
The owner of the internet is a collective comprised of everyone who has control of a server, everyone who has control of anything connecting those servers and anyone who controls access to those servers/connections.
you mean it's not eddie jordan? illusions = shattered.
Hehe!
Afternoon sidepodcasters :)
hahahah,
I guess whilst he invented it and trained everyone how to use it, he had to sell it and move on :P
Good afternoon!
Dario Sport
but Ecclestone says "Piquet told me he will do everything to destroy Briatore"
A suggestion for a new subtitle for you:
F1: It's a soap opera with fast cars
i LIKE that!
that doesn't usually stop him from claiming the credit?
what's new alison?
oooooh lordy, that link is totally not safe for work!!
Interesting, Its not like Bernie really had to confirm that was what PKsenior's masterfull secret plan was... I am convinced Alonso had to have known what was going on, but i doubt that he will be hit hard...
I get the feeling from Pk's that he likes alonso though, it must be difficult for him that his dad wont stop. Its not like he is an embarrresing dad, its a bit bigger than that now...
I corrected it, pasted the main page instead of the article, I think it looks fine
WOuld help if I gave the correct one here too I suppose...

hehe, i didnt even see that!
I just clicked on 'motor'
I am obviously too naive to see such things!
ahh right. the doohickey doesn't show edited comments. i'll update our quoted links :)
i get warnings here.
Nothing much. I'm being a lazy bean. Not sure how I'm going to manage going back to proper work :(
that's weird... but you're right, hmm.
"Fernando knew everything, Alonso could not ignore. If you are the fifteenth on the grid of a street circuit there is no point walking out with gasoline. At most you can pass three cars. After the last stop and stay. It's a senseless strategy"
I think it's because it's going via Google translate
An Automated Programme?
or does an actual person go through it?
automated reports.
Mrs C shouting "What are you looking at?!?!"
Thats pretty clever...
And scary!
Where does it say this? I'm presuming they're speculating Fernando must have known based on the fact that he's not an idiot.... But that's not really the same as knowing is is.
or proving it.
I'm not sure I'd want to. I find it hard to believe he'd be in it that deep. Maybe he was told not to worry about his strategy or whatever but I dunno seems like a big mess. You never know, maybe someone suggested it to Piquet as a joke and he was too stupid to even get that right ;)
I doubt they'll find any evidence either way regarding Alonso, so the matter should rest there rather than throwing unsubstianted claims around via the press. Flavio and Nelson the elder seem keen to throw mud at each other though.
It reads a bit like that but maybe something about the tone is being lost in translation. Dario should be pro-Alonso and playing the story down rather than building it up out of nothing. Hence the comment from Ecclestone tacked on the end and used as the headline.
I'd like to think he had nothing to do with it. If there was a plot, it'd make sense to keep the circle as small as possible. The more people who know, the more of a chance someone's going to shout their mouth off. I'd really question the wisdom of bringing Nelson into your clique. It's such a daft thing to do, it almost makes me think this whole thing must be fabricated.
Why? He is a smart young guy who took Lewis all the way to a title... I think its pretty clear what sort of treatment he was getting at Renault if the best they thought he could do was crash to help the other guy win.
The only dumb thing he did was go to Renault, but i guess that was sorted before they knew alonso was going back there, and was probably his dads idea more than his.
As for Alonso. I doubt anyone told him. but wit a nod and a wink i expect when he started the race he was expecting what happened to happen, even if he wasnt out right told. I'm not really a fan of his, but i dont think you can blame him. He just did what he was paid to do, and did it well enough to win the race...
Allegedly.... I just think he seems so naive. You can't come out in the press and call someone your executioner. It just shows such naivety. What does he have to gain by these allegations other than having his name dragged through he mud. I just don't get it.
Watching the race replay now - from the looks of it, Kubica's front wing got damaged when Vettel tried to push him onto the grass, but he got past anyway.
Those two must hate each other by now...
Flav destroyed his career, at that point i would be pretty fuming and would probably have done the same.
I think this vendetta against flav is 90% his dad, he wouldnt have dared try it on his own, let alone wanted to.
I expect it wont have done all that much damage to his career as noone here could see him getting another f1 drive without his dads help before all this started.
Perhaps he will go on to be succesfull in the states then come back again, who knows. But i certainly think Flav has mistreated enough drivers for it to be time for one of them to bite him back...
Also, considering the way things have gone, I think confiding in Nelson has been proven to be an unwise thing to do.
He shouldn't be worried about his career - he should be worried about staying out of trouble in the criminal courts...
Well he couldnt have got him to crash otherwise :P
Yes, i think its safe to say Flav underestimated the PK's!
Sacking him midseason, knowing he knew what he did was probably equally as dumb... Kinda makes you suspicious that there might be other ex driver out there who know things...
For Blackmail?
I expect none of it was recorded, and it will be very dificult to find a court which will see the case as being in its jursidiction.
I think renault have just backed flav so they can say they belived and supported him when it comes time to sure him... (although that is just my crazy opinion ;) )
Why cant i type!?
It's not just you, I cant spell, or speak....its very annoying
Afternoon all
Afternoon... At least i can still speak! (I hope)
Nope, for match-fixing - I hear it's a crime in Singapore...
really? he gave him an f1 drive when no-one else was interested.
me, have you ever tried Ubuntu Studio?
nope. not heard of it. what's it do?
Maybe out of the top teams, but i think he could have gotten a drive elsewhere if he had waned, especialy with his dads connections to Bernie, we wont really know because he took the test driver contract at renault
Thats a possibility, but would they press charges whilst they still have the Grand Prix?
I think it would be a complicated case with the coercion. Also remember Brazil isnt exactly known for its extradition treaties either so he could always head back there with his million from the FIA...
in my opinion piquet destroyed his career when he got in an f1 car and spun it, crashed it, stalled it and spun it some more.
how long did it take him to out qualify alonso... 18 months? he scored, what, one podium?
he's a laughing stock almost on par with badoer. we spent the whole of 2008 laughing at his ineptitude behind the wheel. flav couldn't make it any worse if he tried.
Any drive at Renault is now a suicide mission, atleast whilst Nando is still there.
I'd rather do another year in GP2 than race in F1 under Flav
The phrase A Little Bit Piquet was coined for a reason! :)
Basically it's a specialised Ubuntu distro for media things. http://ubuntustudio.org/
Linux outlaws were talking about it in detail in episode 104 (http://linuxoutlaws.com/podcast/104)
and I am asking because I have problems getting it to boot but I guess you can't help ;)
exactly :D
Sure, why not? As long as Alonso isn't charged, FOM will not intervene, I'd think.
i shouldn't giggle
ooh, i likes the look of it.
hehe. not a clue, but i shall have a proper look/listen this evening.
Thats true, I am not saying he has shown anything at his time with renault to suggest he was good enough to be a top driver....
But after silverstone last year i read quite a few people saying Massa was out of his depth at Ferrari and it was only a matter of time before Ferrari would want to move him out and hire Alonso.
Then he got his act together, and opinions can change quickly in F1. If drivers are given the chance to focus themselves they can develop and learn quickly. I just doubt he was given the chance to do that at Renault.
So what you're saying is Piquet needs himself a Rob?
I would loved to have seen what rob could have gotten out of him at Ferrari. Unlike Badoer i think he would actually have listened!
people said exactly the same about heikki. flav didn't look after him... ron will fix him...
Trouble is Ron said Ron could fix him too.
In true Alex style...
The Feeder Series - Episode #2 is now avaliable to download through iTunes, and is also avaliable on feederseries.tk
Ta
Ehm the German guy is a bit loud and swears a lot, just ignore those parts ;)
I've arrived just in time :)
all of ron's horsepower and all of ron's men, couldn't put heikki back together again.
#imsosorryamy
:D
he's alot better than piquet though!
+ ;)
True, Heiki doesnt look like being a world beater, but i think he is good enough to continue his career in F1...
We wont know with Piquet as he doesn't have the oppertunity to do what heikki did...
Heikki was also only up agaisnt Fisi, not Alonso
I am in the supermarket carpark. I've been on the road since 11am. But we just remembered we have no food.
hehehe
#sorryamytoo
Have you forgotten about Dominos again?
Aha.. have fun shopping!
We are here in the comments if you need decisions making ;)
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/rikifota-jpg
It's good to see Formula 3 drivers supporting FOTA ;)
Heikki is in trouble. But who do you put in instead?
Depends what kind of driver you want.
Essentially what you want is Rubens but not Rubens.
How about Heidfeld?
Although I'd still rather Kimi :)
because even mclaren didn't want him?
if i were piquet, i'd be chuffed to bits flav gave me a second shot and another season. i'd be apologetic that i'd stuffed up another season for him.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/rikifota-jpg
Good to see F3 drivers supporting FOTA
Comment of the Year? I really like it!
Sung to the tune of Heikki Dumpty... :P
we need to eat healthily tonight. We have eaten sooooooooooo much food at the festival.
Oops, double comment. Appologies
Having problems making comments. Getting could not submit and then if I try again am told it's a duplicate.
Hokey Kokey sat on a wall
Hokey Kokey had a great fall
All of runs horsepower and of rons men, couldnt put hokey together again?
massive mediatemple failure. guess what my job is this week?
ive had a bit of the same, but if i refresh after couldnt submit it is there and all good...
hokey cokey sat in a car
hokey cokey didn't go far...
Yo. I'm on a record of the most yawns in one day, I am unbelievably tired and have been all day.
You are Indiana Jones taking on the Media Temple of Doom?
very much so :)
ah. Has that weird new Scoble host that's Rackspace under the bonnet got started yet?
mosso cloud? yup that's where we be going.
whoop!
I don't think they had released pricing before.
all of ron's horsepower and all of ron's men, couldn't put hokey together again.
#sorryamy
epic F1 nursery rhyme, though. :D
hosting is about £15 a month i think. but bandwidth is extra on top of that, which might be a problem.
i am however in love with google appengine too. much work still to be done :)
When she wakes up... there could be trouble :D
good idea for a game that...
F1 nursery rhymes.
Although nobody should do the ugly ducking for Kubica that's just mean.
good thing she doesn't have her own naughty step. :D
Meanwhile, Bruno seems to have thought of Rubens Hood:
http://mantovani.zip.net/
:D
hahahaha
Save it for Buemi! :P
Alright then.
Ugly duckling for Bu...
she's going to have to build like a whole naughty continent!
Within 2 seconds of each other, too. :P
what's the difference appengine over the amazon thingy?
She was considering not coming here because we call it a 'Kiwi' and not a 'Kiwifruit' this morning.... Hopfully thats just because she was tired :P
Hey, Bu coulda stood for Button. But thats just silly, so your right.
I cant see him becoming a swan though... :D
Three Blind Mice, Piquet, Nakajima and Sato?
See how they crash? :D And it's more appropriate for Ide rather than Piquet.
Ahh, of course.
Three Little Pigs - of straw (Kovalainen), of sticks (Piquet), and of bricks (Alonso).
Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? :D
I think Pk's fundemental mistake was to make flav his manager. It might have been a requirement for him to get the drive, but his dad was more than qualified to do it...
Nice to see I've missed a deep intellectual discussion :P
I'd rather call it childlike. :D
And on that bombshell, I'm off to bed. Good night!
Night sir.
You started it!
Night Journeyer!
It certainly wasn't me that brought up Old King Cole
ciao
Oh!... Old King Cole was a merry old soul
And a merry old soul was he;
He called for his pipe, and he called for his bowl
And he called for his fiddlers three.
Fisichella's merry at the moment. And fairly old. And in a Royalty of a job at Ferrari.
with appengine, you're not in charge of the operating system. you just upload code and run.
i like that bruno is being nice to rubens, since he started wearing the t-shirt.
Question to anyone who's got itunes up.....can you search "the feeder series" and go on the itunes page for it....does it show 2 podcasts or 1? and for anyone whos subscribed can you go onto itunes and update the podcast and see if Episode 2 comes through? ta
haven't got it open, but you know there's sometimes a twelve hour delay before itunes updates it's cache?
Anyone see the Pizzonia tweet from earlier?
@JRobertsF1 Great news: Montreal chiefs have confirmed one of the best events on the calendar for '10. I won a pool tournament last time we raced there!
Whoop! Whoop!
There's one there atm but they usually take ages to update.
My Feeder Series is downloading though.
when you upload it you then go on your ping link right? ive done that and its come through on its podcast bit, where you store all your podcasts. but its not on the podcasts itunes page. is that normal?
awesome, ta
ping doesn't really make it faster in my experience. haven't pinged itunes for something like two years.
but, yup the store updates when it feels like it.
ah ok, i'll just have to be patient ;) boo :P
that he's looking to make a comeback?
The phone in show that follows it is live and spontaneous so cutting 5 minutes from that is not a problem.
Autosport STORY
No date, but it was on the provsional calender for June 6th
why the rush? subscribers get it immediately, which is the important bit.
individual shows don't turn up in searches anyhow. it's just a list for the sake of a list really.
theres no rush, i just like to see it there quickly, it makes no difference :D
i like lists ;)
You have clearly forgotten what it is to be a new podcaster.
Am watching the build up to Italian GP....
I love the people playing the national anthem....i especially love their hats ;)
trueee story
oh.
to be honest i'm over itunes. i know that it makes bugger all difference being on there unless you're featured on the homepage.
so maybe, just older and wiser?
That's not true!! I found you through itunes browsing.
Same
...and being on the homepage nearly backrupted us :)
really? fair enough, i'll take that back then.
go itunes!
Do they give you warning if you go back up there?
:D
Ted has his own little feature on the GP, i loves it
Yeah. If you're browsing F1 related podcasts, you're actually fairly prominent I think. I dunno, it was a while ago now. I listened to your podcast for months before it occurred to me to look you up on the internet.
nope. but it was only ever the video podcast that was featured and we haven't updated that since march. i don't think we're in any danger of being featured :)
I just thought i was going to be really clever and recharge my ps3 controller through a usb cable to my PC...
Its charging, but i cant use it whilst it is, which defeats the purpose :(
..sorry, thought i had to share that... carry on! :P
In fact yes, I typed "formula 1" into the search box and 2 of your podcasts have come up in the top 6 results.....
it scares me to think how much bandwidth you guys must use
...and that's another problem with itunes.
2TB per month on average.
thats quite alot more than i'd thought.
WOW!
Heh, you'd have scared me too much at first I think. I can't imagine coming on here and saying I'd only ever watched 3 GPs in their entirety my whole life yet I wanted to come on your website :P
If i were to upgrade my account to 1TB it would cost me £240 a month.
which is why we appreciate all donations ;)
Gah! these numbers are all huge!
Also I don't understand/have never tried to use RSS. I don't really get what it is or how it works. I have no idea how else I'd keep up with a podcast.
go itunes!
ahh, i give up. i love it really, i just think apple have let it go to seed a little.
I think PK has talent, and they havent thrown me off... (Yet!)
itunes uses rss. it just doesn't tell you that it does.
If anyone else is lurking abd worried that they don't know enough to come and argue with us you now know you can even if you have only watched one race. Commenting with us is way more fun than lurking.
I wasn't lurking in the classical sense. I'm pretty sure I commented the first time I came on the site. I just used to listen to the podcast in the car as I drove to work.
You could linger around on the site a little too much and they tend to tell you its happening :P
Then people with related podcasts come and tell you about theirs too :D
Breakout thread: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/09/14/canada-confirm-place-on-2010-calendar/
:)
Hehehe :)
A lot of people do though and we try every now and then to encourage them to delurk. Some people have said they have been reading the comments for many months before they first commented.
Heh. I couldn't stay quiet for that long. Words just burst out of my mouth involuntarily.
Must be a Scottish problem as I did the same.
@ Alison
I have given away 5 minutes of our sidepodradio phone in show. Nikki's travel show had so many responses that after editing it is 35 minutes long. I don't want her to have to chop someone's contribution from the show so he best option was for us to have 5 minutes less.
You've managed to volunteer someone to do 5 minutes of our show? Well done. Only need a couple more volunteers and we'll be sorted.
:D
They volunteered themselves. Normally I have to volunteer people. I am so confused.
Gah! i just lost all power!
Losing the internet is nothing compared to that!
Dear Mr Leggard
Jenson Button is NOT Schumacher-esq, just because he came into the pits and slowed down coming past the white line.
From. J. Waldock
Thanks Steven Roy and Allison for the five minutes. And thanks to everyone who contributed!
#sidepodradio
James allen is saying that he always belived Alonso was not going to ferrari untill 2011, and next year was always a maybe... Thats not the way i remember it Chuck!
Interesting that he might be left stranded next year, especialy if he has t wait to see if massa is fit to race after the first test of the year.
And he has a quote from Alonso at the end which suggests he is going to Ferrari, but isnt that confident about next year.
So where else could he go, if the wort comes to worst? Id say Macca was out the window... Red Bull are full... Alonso to Brawn in 2010? :P
I don't think Alonso's gonna be without a seat. He left it awfully late to get out of McLaren in 2007 but he's not about to be standing up when the music stops.
the music isn't going to stop until he sits down. same as always.
i think the same, i would imagine campos or Epsilon would bow down to have him...
I also cant imagine the Renault team completely disappearing, if it all goes south and the company decides to pull out. They signed the Concorde so they will have to sell it on as a going concern or face large penalties...
Yeah. Even if he is left stranded. I'm sure someone's willing to make some space.
i love the way james allen forgets to mention he wasn't actually at monza this weekend.
the one's you read on autosport, james?
hehe, i can just see all the f1 drivers playing musical chairs to this song :P
Alonso to Force India which has the patrnership agreement with McLaren and is 'run' by a McLaren engineer. Time to start a rumour I think.
I hope nando's belly doesn't wobble like that, it's disturbing.
Techy question for Mr C. If I am doing an mp3 file for you is ID3v1 or ID3v2 better?
depends. if we're going to edit it. none at all, as they get removed. if it's going out as-is then id3v2 contains more info so is more useful.
Audacity asks me to pick one or the other so I guessed 2 as it said it was more flexible.
good plan :)
Hi everyoooooooone!!
Heeeheeheheheeehee
hey lukeh. my, what's that you have there?
why, i believe it is a lovely album full of goodies and musetasticness, good sir. I'm just gonna go and flash my muse usb to everyone because I'm cool like that.
Today has been way too good for a Monday!
Gosh. What on earth is there round black thing?
*the
Vinyls!! Old school, yo.
A viny-what now? :)
I think you put them on the front wheels of your f1 car?
You're talking to the people that threw away their DVDs, I think vinyls are going to stretch their little heads too far :P
*coughs*
gave away.
Hehehe :D
Yeesh!! They were right when they said that the Special Edition quality of the songs would be lossless and mega high quality. Each individual song is 45mb or so!
I adore today's actual, original, not F1, Big Picture. Except for the first photo, you clickity click on the image to see before and after shots.
is £311 a lot for a 3 day grand prix ticket? ;)
It's a frisbee
Evening.
Bad news: Probably not going to be able to write my usual blog post tonight.
Good news: Because I spent the evening eating and drinking on a sailboat in the ocean. Really cool!
Wow thats awesome, I have a friend who is Galveston, that was one crazy storm
Bargains, the lot of them!
It seems to be pretty well sold out though!
if that's uk pounds, then that's what you pay here for a 3-day seat.
Ah, not to much then, it seemed to be a lot compared to Hungary and germnay...
I am tempted, but my Anti F1 friend thinks it is too much.
Now if i can convince my dad...
I guess the other problem is that there is no general admission....
i think the uk is the most expensive place to watch a race.
Hey guys! :D :D :D :D
But when going abroad you gotta pay for a flight, accomodation etc?
hey scott. good day?
i totally didn't get that the first time i saw them!
much better the second time.
Ha! The UAE will not stand to be beaten! They have the best, biggest and most expensive of everything :P
I am working my way around this one... So far the flight is free.... accommodation will be free.
Just need to work on ground transport and tickets...
Hahaha! You need me!
Noooooo, they picked the worst time to play our game on Sunday. 2pm. That means I miss a lot of sidepodradio. Stupid away games.
Perhaps the BBC could take some litle used station off air for the duration.
Like, i dont know... Radio 3? there must be more people wanting sidepodradio than whatever they play :P
makes all the difference.
and on that note, a quick plug for the other big pic.
That means I can put an earphone in when I play. No one will notice right?
I have driving lessons on Wednesday and Friday after work :D
oooh Ilike that, It discuises the 09 uglyness!
whistle? what whistle?
Awesome! Road or Racing?
Sorry for conceding that goal lads, but Alex just made a funny joke.
Road :D
New podcast: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/09/14/f1-debrief-brawnsomeness/
i make that 2-1 in the christine vs. pinger battle today.
Rats.
Can't believe university challenge just id a round on th Monty Python philosophers song
i need some help... what time do the tubes generally stop in london?
I might not be the one to ask, but in my experience they are generaly good until mignight and then they get a bit patchy, i shall have a look
This should help... http://www.lasttrain.co.uk/
I think the last train leaves the terminus at about 1am
thank you!!! :D *disappears again*
New podcast: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/09/14/f1-digest-2009-italy-gp/
damn 3-1
If anyone wants a little read, check out my new bloggy mcblogness entry on Brawn :) http://toata.blogspot.com/2009/09/37-everyones-winner.html
I might finish my di Resta post sometime this century. Will have a read though.
It's all I know about philosophy.
Hehe, are you a pinger fan?
:)
The break up in the BBC post race coverage keeps wanting me to twiddle the Ariel
...then i realise its iplayer :P
Erm.......okay.......
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3t2-wS92ClM
Ahh, I laughed.
Was it Mr C's day off?
saw those last night. Someone's being mean...
So did I, but it all seems rather...random.
It makes me laugh that, at some point in their day, Mr and Mrs C decided to try out the idea of putting Panda in front of uberfan :D
Drop.io was broken.
Now I like Panda, and I like the uberfan...
Is this an admission of previous Panda dislike? :P
Surely that means a coming together.
And a cute little panda reduced to shreds
Oh god what did I just say?
No, I just can't decide which is best. Well there's only one way to find out.... ;)
Oh look! A step!
I'm already there...
Permanently, it seems.
Me too and I got all three questions right.
Either MrsC is still in shock or he has gotten away with it :P
What were the questions? I need to see if I can answer them too.
Anyone else hoping for mediatemple to just at this time go down?
:D
oooh... an eerie silence has descended! :P
*tumbleweed*
Couldn't possibly guess why. Urm, Pizzonia for F1 2010?
http://twitter.com/AntonioPizzonia/status/3980220183
*shopping trolley*
DiRT 2's Dirt Tour mode is HUGE. So many events, I'm only a third of the way through it or so!
Stop making me want it!
;)
35% complete to be exact ;)
I wonder how they are going to set the car equality up for the f1 game with the crazy season we are having?
*covers eyes and ears* lalalala ;)
Wouldn't be surprised if I give in when I get my student loan. For educational purposes.
The problem is there are so many big games coming out over the next 2 months...
£3k can go a long way.... :P
wohoo! i've actually completed the huge list of stuff i gave myself to do this evening :D and before 10pm! i feel like i need to celebrate! :D
hey everyone :)
I can't remember exactly but one was who was a boozy beggar, one contained the line of his own free will and the other was about Descates
Evening guys.
It's the same every year, it's brilliant :D
Best time of the year if you like your games. So much to get! Poor wallet...
yaaaay!! :D
hey!!
everyone had a good day?
Manor ran him in the junior formulae and Stuart said he gave a lift to oneofthe new team principals who ran him in the junior formulae who said he was incredibly quick but needed a lot of support
It must be really dificult for the guys making the f1 game to know which circuits they should be making... Silverstone or Donnington, do they do turkey... what about south korea?
Hopefully they will do them all and release it as DLC!
Are you at uni now Lukeh or are you starting this September?
You must be starting soon? (lukeh)
I start sunday :D 3 years of my hobby here i come :D
Totally. I've been in an excellent mood all day even with work! And it's Muse day!
I'm going back for my final year next week. Need to start getting referencs for my dissertation!
Ooooh what did you decide on? Find something good in clearing?
Not listened yet. Today's been mental to be fair. In London for work tomorrow so will listen either to, or from on the train.
I saw a rumour on an unreliable site about Branson unveling his involvement at Abu Dhabi, hopefully they will announce the drivers too...
I did it all in 4 weeks, and wrote it in 3 days... NOT A GOOD IDEA!
I'm re-listening to the lossless version (the files are like.1.1mpbs sound quality for god sake!) and it just sounds even better than what I thought. This album is dangerous for my health.
I got a place on a primary teaching course (which is what im going to do long term) up in Cumbria, but decided against it because the accomodation situ was a bit dodgy (because id applied so late)...but...
I'm doing Motorsport :D
Excellent!
jon, your list has updated btw ;)
Coolios. Sounds good. Glad you're sorted.
ahha, woot. ta
it really doesnt matter in the slightest, i just like it to show that ive doen more than one :D
Why do you know that? Is that secret iTunes love? Don't try to fight it anymore....
Are you sorted to not get stranded on the dark london streets?
:D
Are any of the SPC editing crew around? I'm about to redo the F1TailPipe layout and wondered what photo editing S/W you use?
Had any joy with gimp? Have used elements in the past, plus had access to Elements 7 on another machine, that's sadly now died so need some editing SW.
Not sure what to go for and £75 for a copy of Elements is a bit steep at the moment!
Paint.Net is quite good- and free!
hehehe. shhhhhhh
Ah, thanks Mr Gavin - Free always works with me!! :D
Or is it Capt. Gavin after his nautical adventures? :P
In other news, MASTERCHEF!! Happy happy day. This might be the best day of my life.
I have missed this, do tell....
hey aide. *waves*
currently using fireworks, but can't really recommend it anymore. it's long in the tooth and unloved by adobe.
ollie swears by pixelmator and looking at his site it's hard to argue.
photoshop still rules all though.
September 14th 2009. The best day EVER.
Since yesterday. Because Brawn got a 1-2.
;)
Good ol' fireworks. I still love the old macromedia version.
if i could spell your name it would help!!
Mrs Adie is off to Paris for a few days (Grr....!!!) she was met and Winchester station by armed police there to arrest 4 men on the train. They were all evacuated for the 'event'. Proper drama.
ARRRR!!!
that was better than the current version. this one is bloatier than microsoft word.
:D Masterchef love. I'm a little wary that these lot are professional chefs though. They might be too good and not do anything ridiculous like normal people do.....
Poor mr c :P
Although if I see any Luca's popping up...
;)
Haha not a problem and thanks.
I get the odd mail at work for 'Adrain' that one wears thin!
You mean I missed it? Ah darn
hahah! i love it! :D things are slowly starting to sort themselves out. :) i'm starting to figure out that all it needs is an email here and there and you get what you want (in this case a list of names i've been after for days!) :D yay! :)
I'd LOVE to go on masterchef and make some toast just to shut them up.
I was treated by a client to a presentation and then a 3-hour trip on a 100-year old sailboat with a nice dinner and lots of booze. Very good!
Kathi told me to buy Fisi...so i sold Barrichello....
BOOO @ KATHI!!
Or the bloke I worked with once who called me Andy for 4 years. It was too funny to correct him after the 3rd month so I let it ride....
did she tell you to sell rubens?
Good news finally comes then!
I'm thinking this week has been better so far for you ;)
My Uncle's name is Aurel (Italian). His mates call him Ralph!
you SOLD a Brawn??? :(
he was the worst of my drivers.... :( :(
That's like swapping some gold for a carrot!
butbutbut they were rubbish at the time
Rubens was the worst???.... how... what?... who did you have?
Well done Jon on an excellent podcast and getting into what sounds like a cool course. What exactly will you be doing?
Run now Jon!!!!
Paint.net is amazingly good for a free editor. I used to swear by IrfanView for more basic stuff like resizing and cropping.
On the Mac, Pixelmator is pretty awesome and very cheap.
also, from christine's archive. you might like to check this out:
http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2009/06/12/rain-wont-spoil-this-picnik/
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT.
So? I NEVER sold either Brawn all year. Lukeh and Lou would have killed me!
:D :D :D
You got beat by BMW in Spa. I mean come on.
And i didnt want to either BUTTTT KATHI TOLD ME TO BUY FISI!!!!!
:(
Excellent! Wow - good skills.
I sailed on this: http://bit.ly/1UX6cN a few years ago, Norway to Portsmouth via Ostend in Belgium. Amazing 2 weeks.
tis true... they pay you back though... they give you loads of points! ;) they were such a great deal at the beginning of the season :D
Thanks mate.
Yep. Everyone was all, psh brawn, and then brawn were all, psh everyone. But in a nice way.
only just... besides that was all grosjeans fault.
and i bought them at hte beginning of the season. it really was a stupid thing to do
#sorrylou
#sorrylukeh
#sorryrubens
And you wonder how she manages to be number one?
Poor qualifying though.
Rubens was 6th still.
:P
OI!
hehe it still makes me smile that mr c made fun of me for my tactic last year being keeping both honda drivers in my team :D i may have been a year early but i was just perfecting the technique :D
You raise a good point
You keep on like this, it's gonna be Mr G.....
hehe... favoured listener? :P
Oh absolutely. Mystic Lou I say.
;)
:D i forgive you... seeing as you didn't sell jenson ;)
im not THAT stupid
well... he hasn't commented yet, nor joined the wiki. so surely franck has that honour.
hehe, have you tried sending him a DM ;)
Did my amazing joke make it onto Brawnsomeness?
How do you manage to choose favourite drivers and stick with them?? Can you teach me?
oops! #sorrymrc it's just he crashed into Jenson, but swears it was Jenson's fault... i'll support him more when he gets good at being the new DC. DC never blamed anyone! ;) ( #sorryjackie if you are watching the comments, i like DC really)... or if he comments/ sends a voicemail :)
:D
yes... i made the... erm... live show?
Oh look... Badoer won something!
because Rubens is awesome. Thats how. :P
#sorryplanet?
I kinda hope he doesn't, that would ruin a prediction.
:D
Not the podcast then :( haha.
Being stubborn. I chose to follow Button when he won the F-Ford festival and was featured in Autosport and tipped for F1. I got lucky when you see other drivers who've fallen by the wayside.
If he wins this year, it'll be epic.
Plus I've got a season ticket at AFC Bournemouth. Maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment.
internets, someone needs a really early night. i bid you farewell ;)
See in Australia, I was really happy when Kubica and Vettel had that smash as I wanted Rubens to do well. Now I feel like that's blasphemy. The only person I've really always been happy to see succeed is LewHam :P
Night mr c!
niiiightt :D
Fair thee well.
Has Mrs C gone to bed as well? Phew
Night sir.
You're gambling they will still be solvent by the end of the season :P
night Mr C
Night!
(It was badoer winning something, wasnt it ;) )
Yeah, this is the first year I paid in full upfront - God knows why. Usually do a monthly Direct Debit. I see it as a form of insurance!
Solvent by the end of the century would be nice!
My mum has a season ticket for Newport County! When she told me I apologised and told her that the family will seek any medical help necessary,
im so very confused...
CSAI President Angelo Sticchi Damiani presented the award to the Scuderia Ferrari drivers and Minardi, underlining their precious engagement as far as the promotion of young Italian drivers and a qualitatively high transfer from kart racing to Formula 3, GP2 and Formula One is concerned.
Well...Fisi...yes, he started a GP2 team...although sold it mid way through this season and the team is now involved in a legal battle over unpaid moneys (from when it was Fisi's team).....Badoer...i have no idea what he's done.
Maybe they just gave it to him because he was there..
OOOH, maybe THATS what was in teh boxes!!!
As a non-league fan, I disagree. But, with about 2 other people in the stadium with me, I see your point.
I'm only joking about anyways, they're actually hving a fantastic season this far which is good really!
how do you not manage to have a favourite driver and stick with them ;)
seriously i'm not really that sure... i mean i started to follow Jenson when i started watching f1 and it just kinda stuck, then through my support of Jenson i realised just how amazing the team were and here we are :D me an obsessed F1, JB and Brawn/ Honda Fan :D It was tough to watch the team and Jenson go through 2007 and 2008 but you just have to stick with them, i don't support them because i think he is the best driver on the grid, but i support him cause i think he is awesome,a great driver, and i dunno.. i can't explain it.
LOL
My non-league team had 200 people turn up in 10,000 capacity stadium. They went bankrupt.
That means...when you translate it out of Lou speak (like Ron speak just with actual words..)
"I love him, and he loves me!!!"
It's like the old Birmingham City jokes - "I was watching them play and said to the bloke next to me: OI!" and "Birmingham City have just purchased a new people carrier. It's to take the fans home after the match"
Boo :(
haha i'm really bad at expressing myself at the best of times, but today i seemto be running on autopilot.. apologies.
ahaha no.. i know he doesn't know who i am ;)
But John does....
;)
You could be like league 2 Darlington and have and average of 2500 people turn up 23 times a season to this:
http://bit.ly/PxzWM
Horrendously mis managed. Real shame as my family were really involved in that club as well. The team took the decision to get promoted, went wrong from there :(
Ah see I'm sort of like that. There's some drivers I'm happy to see succeed and some drivers I will into the wall/each other with my mind :P (Obviously no-one is injured.....)
Some people I could never support. Else I thought so, but I kinda feel so sympathetic towards Alonso and Kimi atm, I guess anything's possible.
I did always support Jenson and I'd be devastated if he lost this championship. I just like the fairytale story aspect. I really want people to do well and show people what they're made of. That's probably why I spent my last 6 months praying for Nelson Piquet :P
Newcastle?
ahaah he probably remembers the punch in the back more than he remembers me ahaha
Blue Star. Won the FA Vase once.
no, you actually did make sense, i was just having a bit of fun :D
ah fair enough, i didn't understand what i said, so thank god someone did :D
To link it back to F1, the owners did a Flav like statement basically insulting the fans.
Hehehe you make good sense. I'm jealous ;)
Maybe I'll have to choose some drivers sooner or later. I think Lewis is the closest I've ever had to a regular favourite.
It's not compulsory.
i could never support lewis... itv made sure of that, plus i find his personality kinda annoying, then again it's probably the whole 'brought up by mclaren' thing... i'm not a big fan of mclaren...
My little heart can't deal with having so many conflicted emotions though!
It can be teams as well, thats how I worked until Timo came along.
i think he's pretty awesome, i saw him first in GP2 and really like him, i think behind the media bit is a pretty nice guy
Ron Dennis didn't help for me. And even when he went, Anthony Hamilton was just as bad.
lewis himself I don't think is a bad guy! I like his interviews when he's not in PR mode and he obviously loves the sport, but the people around him for me ruin the good things about him.
Just as an example, the Silverstone video with Jake. He was fantastic there! That's the Lewis it should be all the time.
I don't think Lewis is a bad guy, I see him as a canny person who you could get on with. Its just unfortunate he was with McLaren (media sense)
You could just join my policy of supporting everyone and anyone who beats Ferrari :P
See I never endured that.... Not really. The only mad stuff I heard from them was when he won his championship and I cried when that happened so I can't really judge!
I didn't follow F1 through most of the dramas that people dislike him for. Reading back over events gave me more of a negative view of Alonso than anything else....
i think if he was brought up in a Mclaren now (i.e a non-ron-mclaren) then things might be a bit different
It used to be easy - any driver except Michael Schumacher.
For s.. certain, he's more less PR'y under the Whitmarsh reigime.
Same.
Followed him through the junior ranks, and saw a F-Renault race at Rockingham, in which he demolished the field from pretty much last on the grid.
Really pleased when he made the switch in '07, but just got turned off to him by the ITV coverage, and how it was forced down your throat that he was the Messiah.
I don't necessarily think he's a bad person, but his 'image' is just too polished. He's a fantastic talent, and as a brit I feel like I should support him - but he just leaves me a little flat. Shame.
Erm.... our boat was a lot smaller than that!
Night all!
I can't believe I am up later than Mr C!
*does a little dance*
It is only to reveal who is Mystic this week though. Night all!
I am a bit worried he didnt get criticized for what he did...
If its a 1 off fair enough, but if he does it again i will keenly watch the reaction...
AHHH *Hides behind bushes*
*And comes back out*
Night.
Hi Christine!
Uh... Night Christine!
You dont want to see what RG did!
Hehehehe from my uneducated non-F1 watching viewpoint, I used to like hearing about Shumacher. It was the only name I really recognised :P
Also the huge interview the BBC did with Alonso has made me like him a lot more. He's returned to my list of people I'm happy to see succeed! Maybe that's just because he's pants again though..... I don't think my selection criteria are really up to scratch :D
China + Brazil 07? Canada 08?
W000t!
See, ya spoiled your little dance by going to bed straight after ;)
Night Mrs C
hey Christine!
bye christine
Good evening everyone....

Yeyy, everyones coming out to play...

Night Prof.
Those were fair enough... i wouldnt say the say about pushing for something that could only end 3 ways... 2 of them very bad, and the third highly unlikely.

It was just luck!
Had a very busy driving day... But all over now...

Night 2u2!
A great quote from Sir Stirling about a week ago:
"I'd like to be remembered as a driver who preferred to lose while driving quickly than to win by driving slowly enough to get beaten."
aw yeah good job it's nearly erm.. tuesday?

Why? Do they have a new release out or something? ;)
Heh. I'm so jealous of all you going back to uni :(
What were you studying?
Just watched the Mr C/Ringo Starr moment.
Soo good, it makes going to bed better. Lotsa love
Night sir
It's so good, i think i might write a song about it...oh wait
Ciao Mr RG!
You can get Eurosport player for £3.99 a month if it helps?
I'm a medical student on extended leave for a variety of reasons. Hopefully I'll be able to go back next September.
yarr but i also have to buy a tv licence
aww man, i hope you can get back to it. would be a shame to waste all that talent
I'm so excited at getting to drive for the first time on Wednesday! :D
possibly... but it isnt really any different to watching the f1 surely?
Yeah. It's gonna be crazy hard work to get caught up again though. I'm not looking forward to trying to make new friends either.
I would advise you not to play any driving computer games for at least 24 hours before!
W00t. its alot of fun, just be patient with yourself.
I recently started driving again after an 18-month-its-not-safe-for-you-to-drive-because-you-may-fall-asleep-at-the-wheel-related period, its nice to be back :D
ill iplayer f1 i think
You'll need a license for that too then if you're gonna be at Uni. or so they say anyways.
No. You need a license to watch things on the internet if you watch them LIVE. On demand services require no license.
Same thing really, just make sure your billing adress is one with a tv licence if you are worried?
So watching F1 on the BBC website as it's happening isn't allowed but watching it on iplayer later is fine. Stupid system but that's how it works.
ah, ok. Wasn;t sure on that, all our uni said was WATCHING INTERNETS TV IS BAD. basically. I live at home so I kinda ignored that bit... :P
Eurosprt player is like skyplayer though... its live iptv
no ya only need it if your watching it live
Yeah I'm sure it is. I was just saying about the iplayer.
aha
But f1 isnt on iplayer, its on bbc sport player...
You can get it on iplayer after the event. You're not allowed to watch it live on the website without a license no matter where you try and watch it.
US open satellite signal is braking up like a teenage couple...
are you making this up? ;)
If its live you need a licence, if its not you dont
This is technically true, but difficult to enforce.
Bandwidth is the real reason
Did I say I had a licence? :P
It's not, uni's are really hot on that type of thing
Exactly... iplayer isnt live.
But the f1 is live so it isn't on iplayer... ergo, you technically need a licence, same as iptv from eurosport and sky...
F1 is on the iplayer....im watching it right now...
Exactly. but only if you are in the UK - it is perfectly legal to watch UK television from outside the UK without a licence (note it's licence with a C).
There are ways to avoid detection. "The Internet interprets censorship as damage and routes around it"
Besides I had no problems when I was at Nottingham Uni back in July.
I thought the law said you need a licence to recive television in the UK, if so it wouldn't matter where it comes from?>
It's something like that yeah.
If I record a TV show in my own home and I have a TV licence, that's OK
If I take that recording to my friend who doesn't have a licence and he watches it on his own TV (one that's not connected to an aerial), that's OK too.
It's also OK just to listen to the audio feed of a TV station provided the equipment you are using is not capable of showing the video.
You mean watching F1 on my laptop live, but just closing my eyes isnt ok? ;)
It's going to be a new experience this year, watching F1 through Five live and live timing :D
I give you 3 mins of missing jake&co :P
Yes, but if you are outside the UK, say in Ireland for example, you'd not have to pay a penny. Until the advent of satellite TV, you could see massive aerials in the republic which were pointed at UK transmitters.
How about you do it in someone else's room?? Or go to the bar at your halls? That's always fun!
I shall miss Jake....not so much EJ.
Ill still watch the race, just iplayer it after
Theres a tv in the common room/jcr so hopefully i can watch it there
Yeah. Meet some other F1 fans.... Sounds like a plan. There were guys did that in my halls on the projector in the bar. Not that I joined them, I wasn't interested then.
Ah i get what you mean ;)
:D driving is awesome :D i was so sad i had to cancel my lesson today. you'll love it!
Ah many a fond memory of explaining F1 to people! :D
i'm back btw, i love would i lie to you, tis so funny :D
Del Potro and fed are at 1 set apice...
Will amy be getting any work done this morning?
At least she will miss some of the nursery rhyme comments ;)
come on federer!
nursery rhyme comments??
hehe... might be worth reading back though... look for hokey ;)
oooh you missed some fun
search "all rons horse powers and all of his men"
*goes to look*
ehehehe :D
Hehehehe DC really hates Seb Vettel :D
I'm heading off to watch a dvd in bed. Night everyone!
Night Lukeh :)
Night Sir
Night!
He does!?
night Lukeh
I'm watching Qualy. He got really irritated at Jake when he suggested Torro Rosso did well last year because of him and then EJ said he thought Vettel was Red Bull's number 1 driver. He got all flustered, I thought his head was going to explode.
"Well, I'd argue that it wasn't all down to driver line-up.........."
hahahaha, i must watch it :D
okay.. i need sleep, night all x
night!
hahahah,
I guess whilst he invented it and trained everyone how to use it, he had to sell it and move on {Comment #406}
I suppose, given how old EJ was when the internet was invented, that he could have been selling second-hand servers along with the second-hand cars and carpets...
night Lou
Brundle now just seems bored with Legard, like the person in your class who you have to sit next to who you didnt like and couldnt wait till the next year to be able to change seats!
P.S if you didnt have someone in your class like that...then you were the person ;)
ahahahaha.
LewHams just had his crash...
"OH LEWIS HAMILTON SPINS! (shot pans out to hamilton backwards into a wall, with half his car covering the track )SOMETHINGS HAPPENED THERE"
Thank you Mr Leggard for that informative commentary
He's awesome! There was some problem with iplayer. I started watching what they told me was Monza but for some reason Spa was on there. I only noticed it was the wrong race when I heard Legard tell me "Fisichella's into the lead first...." I thought that was a classic.
I love it when that happens.
I'm gonna love it the first time I see someone get into the lead 3rd.....
Morning, everyone.
Wow, 2 straight double faults from del Potro means that from 4-3 up, he loses 4-6 to Federer in the 3rd. Fed now up 2 sets to 1.
P.S, i don't like Richard Branson. He tries to claim all the good stuff from Brawn wins...but he's leaving at the end of the season!! BOO
Hehe, just realised watching the forum, that they tried to cover up the fact that they have spent half the season in red bull by claiming they were in 'torro rosso'
Im guessing they realise the fans will notice, but the bosses will think its a different team :P
I think he just likes to Party!.... oooh everybody does!
Hehe. By next season, I think he'll realize not every new team is a Brawn. He'll need Brawn more than Brawn needs him.
DB went down for like 2 minutes or so...
you are all on my naughty step. As are the people who scheduled a meeting for me in 2 min so i miss end of tennis. I realised it wouldnt be so bad for delpo to win because i would LAUGH if he got a slam before murray.
Ut Oh!
Have a good meeting :D
morning, amy. :D is your meeting so long you'll miss the end? might take more than 30 minutes.
and are you referring to heikki dumpty?
Us? Never? What did we do?
*runs*
Even me? I had no knowledge of the incident in question.
Especially you
!!!!
;)
From BBC: "Oh dear...Juan seems to have lost Del Plot-ro. Come on Fedders!"
How do you manage to choose favourite drivers and stick with them?? Can you teach me? {Comment #768}
First, I decide what I'd like to see in a driver (carefully ensuring I don't include anything directly performance-related because there are never any guarantees for that). Then I wait to see if anything suggests itself. I find if I wait long enough, I will end up with a favourite driver without feeling the need to force the matter. Furthermore, I've found if I select drivers on that basis, I don't feel tempted to drop them at the first sign of stuff going wrong.
Admittedly, I didn't do that with Damon Hill. All I know is my 7-year-old self saw him do a third of the French Grand Prix in 1993 and decided she wanted to support him.
Team support would probably work the same way, but supporting Jordan pretty much spoiled any possibility of me supporting any team other than whichever iteration of it was/is running at a given time.
Well…Fisi…yes, he started a GP2 team…although sold it mid way through this season {Comment #789}
Fisi still has a Euro 3000 team that's en route to the title for the second time in five years (and, until quite recently, a fairly average Formula BMW team as well).
