I'm afraid to say the start of this daily has been delayed because of a fox. Now Mr. Fox come on shoo off. No, no, don't run over there. Oi, foxy, get out of the corner, the door is open. Look, its outdoors, you like the outdoors don't you, don't make me come after you, I'll get there in a heartbeat don't you worry.
Oh great, now you are running all the way to the other end of the room, thanks, now you made all the commenters cheer you on. Hmph, in fact, you stay there, I'll carry on without you.
So, whats up in none fox related stuff. Formula 1, oooooooh, nothing.
WRC? Err, nothing. IndyCar, something about Rahal and winning, your Charlie Sheen reference goes here.
How about other sports? Well, there was no Premier League football, only four games of the FA Cup. I mean come on, did anything fun happen at the weekend? I mean, even the rugby was worse than it usually is (for those not in the know, that was a huge dig into rugby union, from a rugby league fan, go Thunder). But in the weekend's standout fixture, Gateshead lost to Darlington in the semi final first leg of the FA Trophy (Think FA Cup, but the big non-league teams get a chance to win it, somehow, 'heed and Darlo made it that far (that was another dig towards those two clubs (which is odd considering I technically support one of them (technically is a bit harsh, maybe more actual perhaps (maybe this is too many brackets))))). Anyway, Gateshead went 2-0 up, then promptly lost the plot and lost 3-2. But, that was the away leg and the home leg is still to come. Wembley is surely on the cards.
My favourite thing from the football though is this. Spurs hero Gareth Bale, his performances against Inter Milan. In the words of me, simply magnificent.
So, I tell you what has happened lately. Eurovision. I've put off talking about it in denial because of the simply gorgeous Yohanna and the Icelandic stupidity not to send her to Dusseldorf. But, 2 months (and one day) to go! Who needs F1, cos this is where it is at. And Blue has released their entry for the UK, and is, underwhelming. I predict an average 18th place finish, frankly, it won't be worse than the German entry. Still, my favourite is Sweden, Eric Saade with 'Popular'. I'm not sure what that makes me, but it sure fits in with my simply brilliant music taste. (Yeah, yeah, yeah Mr/Miss/Mrs Sarcastic.)
Of course, I wish all the best for the people of Japan, some of the images have been beyond belief.
Have a nice Monday.
Hello new daily and hello mr RG. I like your round up of F1 news :)
I hope that wasn't Minty on the pitch.
I saw that. We were thinking he was looking for a place to do his business and was a little surprised to walk out in front of a few thousand people :D
nooo minty is a good fox :)
:D
phew! Thought he'd outfoxed himself...
That fox looked really scared. :(
So would you if you had to look for the toilet in front of that many people :D
:) The poor thing.
It's always amazing that a fox can get on to a pitch.
so should we be shooing RG from the comments until he blogs more then?
Phew! Just one little job left to do.... If anyone catches me working at this time of night ever again, tell me to resign!!
Deal. Though I'm guessing prevarication is to blame
Saying that, I am off for some mindless tv before sleeps

Trying to get ready for the first practise at Sebring and can't find anything! Too early in the morning!

Wrong code - this really is too early for my brain after the laziness of off-season...
Force India F1 countdowns go fancy.
Morning, folks.
Friendly reminder: the first Lotus-Lotus hearing is on Monday. ;)
Any links for Sebring practice?
Not yet. Even live timing's not up today. Grrr!
aren't you about 8 hours too early?
We had this discussion yesterday. I thought it was on at midnight and I was told it was 4 am. Now I'm here at 4 am and it's still not on! I'm worried I've got the wrong day, never mind the hour...
Florida is 4 hours behind you, not 4 hours in front, so it's only midnight there at the moment. 8am their time is noon for you.
...oh. So basically I've woken up early for nothing?
pretty much. Go back to sleep :)
Oh YEAH! Now I remember! :D
Will do when I've updated the timetable (the other problem is that there's an entire forum depending on me getting these things right - hope nobody made the same mistake as me :( )
In yesterdays comments I can't find anyone saying it was 4am, just Pat saying it was noon.
I think I got 4 hours stuck in my head and forgot the "behind" bit...
Happy Pi Day!

Huge Alterations to the 2011 Superleague Formula Calendar
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2011/03/14/huge-alterations-to-the-2011-superleague-formula-calendar/
You could have asked about NZ circuit knowledge!
I only finally got round to writing it late last night, but I will gladly except a guest post about New Zealand circuits
;)
I'll post a comment instead.
To be honest Gavin, I was more intrigued by the Russian track on the calendar. A peculiar one...
Good enough for me. My knowledge of circuits in New Zealand isn't that great beyond what little I covered on the Toyota Racing Series
I used to work with a driver who raced in that series and he got me paddock passes to the A1GP event in Taupo because of it ;)
I should add his day job was in our office, not that I worked for the racing team!
i will add something from the region to the Circuit Profile section of the site when I'm less busy. Up to my eyeballs at the minute though
:)
Have made a bundle for the Big Pic too: http://bit.ly/htfSxT
Comment has been added. I can also tell you about the Wellington Street race too if you need info.
Will do. Cheers
Apart from that, such dramatic changes so soon before the season start is hardly an endorsement of health for the series
I would say they are going where the money is, but then they wouldn't bother with an NZ round as it would frankly be a waste of time - go to Aussie instead.
If the series gets too ambitious and expands too fast then they will go under before they go down under!
YFrog is really rubbish - half the time when I click on links I get a 503!
That too

You may remember that here in the office when something goes slightly wrong we say, "oooooh Buemi" after the video from years ago where Jeremy was selecting names from a cup.
Anyway we said "ooooh Buemi" again this morning, and Jeremy asked if he was still in Formula 1 and I said, "I don't think so, he wasn't even in F1 last year was he... Hmmm oh maybe he was one of those Torro Rosso drivers"...
Oh dear... I am sorry Buemi...
Awww, poor Buemi.
Maybe I should start saying Awwww Buemi :(
so, I heard your country has creme egg icecream.

[Fernando's doing?]
#ConspiracyTheories
I can't believe how so much of the media reckons Vettel is a shoe in for the title again this year when he never lead the championship and clinched it on the final day.
Mark has to have a pretty decent chance too, if he's hungry enough this year
In all fairness, he should have won the title by a country mile last year. This year, Red Bull appear to have a very reliable car.
The Chain update: it's currently at #71 on a rolling 24-hour unofficial chart, between The Time by Black Eyed Peas and Viva La Vida by Coldplay.
Alonso is gonna win it purely because the Red Bull drivers are going to take points off each other again.

Anyone else here doubt that HRT will start in Australia?
I think they'll start. But I'm a terrible optimist.
Aww ;)
I think they'll start because otherwise I think we'd have heard rumblings from Bernie...
Maybe they will and not make 107% then?
I think they'll fail to qualify by perhaps three or four tenths for the better of the two drivers (the other one may not have a functional car by the end of Q1 because something will be broken).
That said, Melbourne's stewards have traditionally been generous about the 107% rule, so the functional Hispania (maybe even the non-functioning one too) will probably start despite not actually qualifying.
Probably. They won't qualify but they will get let off.

Oh dear, what are Twitter doing?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12731343
if they ban all third party apps it'll be a huge shame and pretty unfair. What's the point in doing that? How greedy.
That's a slippery road for them to tread.
Shocking they've basically told developers to stop working on clients. Surely it'd be better to actually consult devs over apps and work with them than to simply decide it's their baby and they have no right to work with it...
There's a good quote in that article that pretty much sums it up for developers - "Thanks for getting so many people interested in Twitter. Now get lost."
Ping: http://www.f1bigpicture.com/news/never-the-others
Loving all these big pictures today Christine :)
How long (or quickly) before folks start turning their backs on it?
They have a point though the market for twitter clients is becoming over saturated with applications that essentially all do the same thing.
He did say that those already around such as tweetdeck, echofone etc. should continue. Unless someone can offer something that's dramatically different to whats there, then they shouldn't be producing a twitter client, in my opinion.

Today a technician from United Space Alliance a NASA contractor fell from the launch pad where he was working on preparing the shuttle Endeavour and died. It seems incredible that with all the risks associated with space travel and rocketry that someone should die as the result of a simple fall.
All work at the pad has been stopped until the accident has been investigated.

Would "a client that works on my computer" count as "dramatically different"? Because at the moment no such client exists, obliging me to use the direct interface...
Interesting, they may not have been sandbagging but they are still being devious.. Hembery (Pirelli) says:
"We saw some interesting race simulations in Spain, but teams are playing tactics - some of the comments that are being made do not match the strategies, and vice versa."
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89921
The teenagers already had before this announcement came out. Once they've developed their own version of social networking, the masses will jump ship.
Remember Michael Schumacher won many races in the past with the Ross Brawn combination of getting those calls right.
I don't think Steven will like Pirelli looking at that as a good thing. :D
i have decided, i need schumacher to do well. beating him is the only thing that makes alonso likeable :)
#goschumi
*faints*
best 2011 season would be alonso beating schumacher to the title.
#anyonebutvettel
:)
Beating Schumi is made all the more sweeter when Schumi is driving well, the look on his face!
Nice to see Pirelli are neutral. Nothing like watching 75 pitstops in an hour and a half. Just over one a minute. We will be lucky if we ever see a camera pointed at a camera on track.
Goooooo Petrov!
Go wash your mouth out
If the TV directors wouldn't keep cutting to show pitstops of backmarkers it would be okay. Midfield and up, please.
I don't want to see cameras pointing at cameras. Lou might though.
Or even just under one a minute
Is it organised by ballot? Who has to pit in minute one?
That is only a matter of time. Take the strategy out and have sponsor's reps draw a driver's name every lap and that driver has to pit.
My throat is sore and I haven't yelled at anybody today. I must be sick.
Pit-stops are the only thing interesting in Nascar too, I think we should make Nascar names for all our F1 drivers.
Filipe Baby is a good start. Freddy Alonso? Lew Ham Jr.?

Tweets of the Week: http://sidepodcast.com/post/tweets-of-the-week-managing-expectations
Hello all. Started my new job today & spent most of the day reading policy and making sure my desktop was set up correctly.
Tonight I have been really techy. I installed a WLAN card in my PC and have set it up as a hotspot so I can connect my iPod Touch to my internet.
I know for the real tech people this is really simple but I've never taken the side off of my pc before so it was very exciting for me :).
I kept to my word and wrote a blog post: http://northernwaffler.wordpress.com/2011/03/14/the-biased-view/
what a day that must have been! Nice one Janna :)
I had a You Tube video running on my phone to check I was doing the right thing ;)
Well done on the techy stuff Janna
Big pic 11 - http://www.f1bigpicture.com/news/masked-reliability
Also, lots of these stops will be simultaneous, so it'll be more like 10 minutes of constant pointing into the pits followed by 20-30 minutes pointing at the track (with 2-3 exceptions for weird stops), rinse and repeat.
They won't do. Some wrong strategies have to be used to figure out that they are wrong, and vice versa!
We aren't writing off the season before it starts, are we?
last year we did the opposite. where did that leave us? :)
Definitely not. I just think they have made some really stupid decisions about the rules
I'm not, as always I am staying positive :)
With a really good season
i musta missed that one.
Sometimes people feel the need to complain a lot. Personally I haven't looked forward to a season this much since 2007.
I've taken a day off especially for Friday practice and I never do that ever.
woo! :)
I looked forward to last year more, honestly. It looks like RBR are ahead by some margin. Testing last year seemed closer in general. The main positive I got from testing was Mercedes' encouraging form - much better than this time last year. :)
Can I offer my guest post from a few weeks as a little pick me up if you're writing the season off already?
http://sidepodcast.com/post/feel-the-rhythm-feel-the-rhyme
I looked forward to last year because the refuelling-ban was an interesting change, not because it might be fun. And the first chunk of the season wasn't fun but it got much better.
This year the tyres could change everything. Or they might not. We have uncertainty and that's good. Pirelli will sometimes get it wrong and that'll be embarrasing but other times it should work well. We know RBR are very fast and we know Ferrari and Merc are fairly close, hopefully, but that may probably apply only to the first bit of the year.
The chunk of the season being Bahrain? :D Australia onwards was fine.
Forgot to add.. this year I'm looking forward to it because I expect it to be fun
Bahrain, Malaysia, Spain, yawn. After that it was better.
Malaysia and Spain were fine for me. The latter probably because I was very happy that Schumi held off Button.

Awesome day of awesome big pictures :)
I'm writing off the FIA before the season starts. Does that count?
I thought it was more of a curate's egg. 2009 was excellent throughout apart from the irretrievable Valencia and Abu Dhabi. 2010 veered from extremely boring to extremely exciting and back again more often than a pinball machine and with about as much pattern.
My season went:
Extremely boring (Bahrain)
Exciting (Australia)
Interesting (Malaysia)
Dull (China)
Dull (Spain, but it got me through what would have otherwise been a very boring part of the Spa LMS race)
Boring (Monaco)
Exciting (Turkey)
Extremely exciting (Canada, and following Le Mans I felt as spoiled as a child who'd been told she can eat an entire sweet shop if she likes)
Extremely boring (Valencia)
Interesting (Britain)
Extremely boring (Germany)
Boring (Hungary)
Exciting (Belgium)
Interesting (Italy - though I admit to being more thrilled by the LMS race in Silverstone the same day)
Dull (Singapore)
Dull (Japan)
Interesting (Korea, but it would have been more exciting had the track actually been in a fit condition to use)
Interesting (Brazil)
Extremely boring (Abu Dhabi)
So that's 3 extremely boring, 2 boring, 4 dull, 6 interesting, 3 exciting and 1 very exciting. While this does mean there were more good races than bad ones for me, the 5 races that were some degree of boring is unusually high from my perspective.
Pointless is back!! :D
i'd agree with all of that.
It is! I much prefer it to Perfection - the presenter gets some interesting lines to say and the contest is a proper challenge at multiple levels.
where did he go?
So is The Event after a 3 month break, stupid US part-seasons
It was temporarily replaced by the not-particularly-modestly-or-well-named Perfection.
Where's Steven? I need my pointless friend!
You shouldn't call Nick pointless
:D
i assumed it was his pet name?
Agreed. Neither does it make the whole season a washout as some seem hellbent on characterising it.
Perfection has the makings of a good show but it is too slow
Ah, but to be pointless in Pointless is the best compliment there is because points don't mean prizes ;)
HELLO!!!!!!!!
it wasn't fun covering it. but as a consumer i'd say 50/50.
Yaaaay!!!
:D :D :D
I thought it was quite a good season. With 2 races to go there were still 5 drivers in with a chance of taking the title and there were some good races too
It's a while since anyone was so happy to see me
I really enjoyed it too.
It felt overhyped though. It seemed like most of the press ignored the other 17 drivers for the majority of the season.

Ooooh I'm very relieved!! I got my proper offer through from Southampton and they've made it totally unconditional :D Very happy.
I can start properly looking into housing now I guess!
That's great. No more impossible conditions then
Excellent :D
Woooo!! I thought I was going to have to wait until August to get it all confirmed but happily they've taken all the conditions off, not just the impossible one :D
Just have to wait for Warwick to reject me which is looking like a bit of a formality now....
You don't know that yet
It is a formality if Alison accepts the unconditional offer from Southampton ;)
:D
Hehehe I don't know. Southampton is growing on me. Might just wait and see what they have to say for themselves though first....
Ah, OK. That's a reasonable thing to do. After all an unconditional offer cannot be withdrawn.
Much as I like to "sort" I think I'd annoy myself not knowing what they said :P
I think I need to sleep sitting in an armchair like a pensioner :P
Does it count as being like a pensioner if you have a laptop in front of you?
No.
Hehehe any time I lie down, my cough starts :(
Phew
In that case sleeping sitting up makes sense.
That pointless boy gave it to me and now he doesn't even have a cough and I'm stuck with it!!!

Hi Bassano and Leigh
Hi Bassano,
What goes on?
Hi steven
Fine, thank you. A friend and I are currently trying to figure out why the USA and UK having different-sized gallons is supposed to make sense.
Question for all - how on earth did James Jakes end up testing an IndyCar today?
It doesn't
Pints are also different, maybe even fluid ounces.
Essentially, the US has it's own Imperial syestem. Any correllation between ours and theirs is purely coincidental
Hey Leigh, finalising Boston bookings
Phew - I thought for a moment that we were the only people who thought that...

Theres 500 days until the Olympics.
But I'm already trying to work out what tickets I need. Stupid early ballot it's doing my head in :( Even I don't want to plan this early!
*falls on floor*
well I would if it was easy, ie, 'this grand prix on this date' but because Olympics is so many different events at the same time I have to choose them, plus I'm trying to go with two other people so we're coordinating our ticket buying so we don't end up with three sets of tickets to the same events, it's harrrrrrd.
Boston - booked!
hooray! What are your dates?
Arrive Thurs evening 31st Mar leave Sun 3rd April
The Lenox, Boston [4 star woo hoo]

No clue where to put this Off Topic question... but have been pondering this over the weekend...
I see that blood is flowing again in Bahrain, so in the end, prolly right to pull out of there... But now with Japan facing a total meltdown (literally, the staff/crew was just ordered to leave) - this being only 120km from Tokyo - come OCT we may be talking more serious things than Suzuka!? :( Any thoughts about this... How do you handle 30+ million people *IF* this thing goes totally tits up ala Chernobyl? I'm not a huge twitter guy - but been glued to it since the news hit Friday... Talk about the perfect storm.. 9.0 quake... 10m high tsunami - and now, a possible total nuclear meltdown? Yikes! Kinda puts things in perspective... Heart goes out to all those in Japan ♥ :(
I guess the next few days are key. Time will tell how the Nuclear Station situation progresses
Tough times though
Just a note: Language needs to be very family friendly here [even at this hour :D ]
Personally, if any country can do it, Japan can
They're disaster management seems to be pretty good and they have a lot of earthquake experience
Our thoughts are with all those affected
