Hello everyone! I’m back! I’m not sleeping this time, I’m awake, and here to give you a bumper daily as a way of apology for forgetting about you last week. So hold on to your screens and brace yourself for the amount of links;
First things first, lets get this out the way;
ONLY TWO WEEKS UNTIL THE START OF THE SEASON!!!
Ehem..Right, so now that’s out of the way lets talk about some Formula 1. The final test came to a close yesterday and Christine wrote a great summary of all the pre season testing, check it out here.
Speaking of the approaching season (you know there are only 2 weeks right?!) have you joined the new fantasy racers league? Information can be found here.
If, like me, you’re missing F1 more than ever now that we’re so close to the race in Australia how about feeding your withdrawals with Part 1 and Part 2 of the latest Aside with Joe?
Mr C has been working very hard behind the scenes and has now launched the Sidepodcast Heartbeat. Check it out for yourself in the ‘more’ section of the header.
Leigh has been busy too, recommending a great song, and having a bit of a rant. Please check them out!
Right, time for a breather, F1 wolf found an awesome video of a downhill bike race!
Moving on from motorsport, lets talk about photography and art (as is traditional for my daily posts).
Firstly, earlier this week I posted this photograph on twitter;
What is a photo of I hear you ask? Did I spill coffee over this photo? No, it’s an argyotype. What’s that? Well it’s done with a certain argyrotype covered paper, the negative is placed over the paper in a holder and then exposed to UV light. I used a digital negative to create this, for a full description argyrotype processing check this out. I love my photography course, alternative processing is so cool!!!
So some interesting, beautiful and inspiring photography links for you;
- Ever wondered what it was like inside a glacier cave?
- Ever seen the Iclandic Volcano Eruption in an arty way?
- Nature is so beautiful
- So is water
- Here are some beautiful photos of paris
- Surreal photography is fascinating! Art of the land, surreal story telling is awesome. I just love creepy scenes.
… now for some fun arty links;
- Did you know there was an Up inspired house?
- Ever wondered of what cats dream of?
- I’ve mentioned him before but Slinkachu makes cute little scenes using model people, here are some of his most recent pieces.
I shall finish the arty section of my daily with some Formula 1 related work by one of my favourite artists, Andreas Gursky. He’s improved the Bahrain track, and done a beautiful study of f1 pitstops.
Before I leave you all to share the podcast of the week, I just want say all of my thoughts are with those people affected by the disastrous events in Japan. There are many places on the web where you can donate to the cause, here is the British Red Cross donation information.
Podcast of the Week
As I’m excited for the upcoming Grand Prix, here is inside track from 2008! Yaaayy for Formula 1!

*holds screen*
ohh i missed some bits.. i fix.
i love the argyotype, but when i clicked on the original, i was like "woah what a gorgeous picture".
ooh theres 11.5 straight hours of tennis on my telly today. Pity it started at 6am and I didn't wake up til 2 :(
okay, all fixed :)
*psst last link is a bit wonky (inside track) psst*
ah i love the original, but that's why i wanted to try it in agyrotype, i have done 6 different digital negs to play around with. Was just working with the idea that i liked the images and wanted to experiment. There is also a technique very similar to this but where you get a blue effect. it's great. Gonna try that soon too.
*cries*
too many links!
love the glacier pics
ooh, love the reflections even more. how???
fixeddd!!
great daily lou ;)
some serious skill! ;)
in between looking after the 3 boys and playing some Crash i think i did well to do it in as many hours ;)
one day i'll do a daily on time.
your daily took almost as long as an entire working day, I love it :D
if i had sat down and concentrated it would have been less time :(
woulda been less fun though.
sitting down and concentrating is hard. That's why I gave my dailies a theme, otherwise they'd take about 12 hours for me to get through. That and because the world deserves Heikki news.
also: WHAT THE CRAP. HOW DID ANDY MURRAY LOSE TO DONALD YOUNG.
That's embarrassing for tennis as a whole.
:)
on that note, i must sleep. night amy, lou and all lurkers.
Poor Murray :( i must also sleep. Night Mr c, Amy and all lurkers! Xx
it's OK, Jamie and him are still in the doubles, Jamie carrying that pairing though obviously :D
Night all :)
actually Jamie and Andy are playing Isner and Querrey next. Gooooo Quisner!
Hey Gang,
Haven't been on here for a while.
But ... I'm now living in Melbourne, which many of you know, and I have tix to the Aus GP. Anyone else going and fancy a meet up? I also have two tix to "An evening with Joe Saward" on the Wed night before the GP. I'm not likely to need them as I think I'll be in Perth that day. Takers?
Morning guys. Great to see a bumper packed Lou daily back :)
Love the photos of the miniature people. Reminds me of Pierre :D
Morning gang :)
Morning Mr A
Morning Mr h ;)
Any plans today alex for this very sunny day? Unless it is not sunny in london but the question still applies in regards to the day we are talking about which is today despite any accusations about whether the climate is similar in different parts of the UK, whereas in Scotland it is actually snowing so that cou...
...urm.. yes, what I;m basically asking is got anything planned today? :)
Morning folks
Morning!
Hi Lukeh
How does you be today sir?
Not too bad cheers leigh. Yourself?
Well it's actually drizzling here today... Booooooooo!
But I have a plan:
1) Return the question about plans for the day to Lukeh
2) Eat a packet of hula hoops
3) Drink a can of coke (N.B. Some of the coke will be consumed alongside the hula hoop eating)
4) Put the recycling into the recycling boxes
5) Put coat on
6) Go to Supermarket
7) Buy things at Supermarket
8) Come back from Supermarket
9) Have a snack
10) Watch some tv for a bit
11) Go out to mates house for Sunday Lunch / Dinner
12) Come home
13) Watch a bit more tv for a bit
14) Go to bed.
So yeah, not much no, you?
;)
Not too bad, although it seems I have found myself in another online "discussion" about the err's of the latest IndyCar decision.
What an awesome laid out day. I was happy enough just eating sunday lunch and having a friend over but now I feel the need to also number my daily routine in order! :D
Youve missed out Put things away from the supermarket. I have to do that today too.
Do it Do it!!
***NEWS FLASH***
I have finished the hula hoops...
About 20% of Coca-Cola drink remains ;)
Oh yeah!
I think you ought to thank Christine for this point Giggles otherwise your poor shopping will have been laying around all day and you won't have even realised
Nearly three months since my last Coca Cola now. Feels all right
:)
GAH!!!! The whole plan is out of whack now! And I seem to have not taken my coat off or put it back on and off when I go to my friends.
Actually often times, Katherine will put things away from the Supermarket rather than me. This seems to be a good way of us both knowing what we have in the house.
Ah-ha! Phew :)
Hello. My day involves:
breakfast
shower
lunch
golf
visit mum
dinner
errr tv or something
Prhaps you are just being efficient and putting it on once for the entire day.
1) Give mum a hug when she comes in because she went out before I got up
2) Go and eat Sunday Lunch and perhaps become impatient by banging knife and fork on placemat
3) om nom nom nom.
4) Fall on bed from the effect of being full from yummalicious sunday lunch
5) Play Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 for a bit
6) Let friend in when he comes over
7) Get beaten on FIFA and Smackdown but humbly admit I let my friend win. every time. Twice.
8) Say goodbye to friend
9) Pour myself a cooooooool drink and relax for a bit
9) Watch Wonders of the Universe with the awesomeness that is Brian Cox
10) Have some chocolate biscuits and watch more Fawlty Towers in bed and say goodnight to Lou
11) zzzzzzzzzzzz
Bit of a lazy day really :)
That's true... But then there probably should have been points where I should have been saying 8b) Ignore Katherine asking me if "I'm stopping" as I haven't taken my coat off.
Another good point. This is more complicated than it looks.
Ohh there is probably have a shave in there somewhere too otherwise work get angry tomorrow!
My day is already over but it went like this
1) watch 5 hours of tennis
2) go to the supermarket
3) come home from the supermarket
4) eat a box of Shapes for dinner
5) rock out to Stevie Nicks
It's been a good day :) Although if I had to go to work tomorrow I might feel like I didn't achieve much this weekend.
It's tricky... Although I think the whole list is a sort of wiki style thing in my brain so I can constantly reapprase the situation. Imagine me like one of those GPS Tom Tom things I keep thinking, "Recalculating, Recalculating". Like now it begins with:
1) Read comments on Sidepodcast and reply to them
2) Finish can of coke (N.B. Some of the coke will be consumed while commenting and replying on Sidepodcast)
:)
Should the shave be before the Mum hug to stop potential face scratching?
Lots of supermarketing today.
I think I should add this to my list
Strangely enough I try to make my weekend as unsupermarketly as possible. Funny that :)
I also left out the bit where I cursed the sky/Bernie, but I did kind of tweet about that.
Seriously, it was dark at 6.40. This 5pm start time is not going to work if the weather is bad!
I'd recommend it to all.
I see.
Mine goes as far as:
1) Comments
2) put down the iPad without opening the drums
3) Shower/dress/etc
4) do the shopping at the supermarket
5) see if Mr C s awake
6) ???
7) Profit!!
:)
I went to buy lots of things but only came back with the box of Shapes and a bottle of cranberry juice that I only bought because an Ocean Spray ad was on just as I left the house and it made me go 'gosh I like cranberry juice'. I'm an advertisers dream
For those playing along at home, the Shapes are Italian Woodfired Pizza flavour.
Does Lukeh have particularly sharp hair?
That reminded me of this cartoon: http://replay.waybackmachine.org/20080812075108im_/http://stackoverflow.com/images/then-a-miracle-occurs-cartoon.png
Who thought stubble could be so dangerous :)
Face hair is spikey isn't it? I mean if you just have a beard then that's one thing, but if you sometimes shave but haven't it can be a bit sharp no?
the hugs I remember from my grandad tell me yes :D
Heheheheh, perfect. I just explained the situation about recalculating to Mr C and in his vague awakeness he said you need a four loop.
*shrugs*
I suppose I don't really leave it long enough to find out.
To be fair Lou has said before my stubble can be spiky when I haven't shaved so you make a fair point :)
To the bathroom and the razor!
a 'Fo'r loop, I knew my BTEC in computer things wasn't a waste.
except for when I can't spell it
for loop rather than four loop ;) But in theory yes.
I'd say it's more like a while loop because we don't know the number of items we're iterating over but then he's half asleep so who knows :)
Now he says he wants a four loop in his brain. The man even sleepy mutters in geek.
:D
Ohh for!!
while (Pat W can't spell)
{
replace ("'Fo'r", "'Four")
}
;)
ooops now I can't spell "'For'", "'For'")
Morning
oh you get the idea... ooops
**** NEWS FLASH *****
I have finished the can of coke!
:)
Morning
He is weighing up the pros and cons of a for versus while loop. He kinda likes the idea of a finite list you work through until it's done, but I'm saying it doesn't allow for unexpected items.
Another goal on your route through Sunday complete :)
This is why we need achievements in real life in our brain. when you complete a goal in your day a little achievement notice pops up in our sight like a game!
How about "Fore"?
;)
In his brain that is.
BRILLIANT!!
Unexpected item in brainal area
I just saw my first BBC F1 promo of the year on TV. Not long now. :)
Hehe. He says women probably have do loops while men have for loops. I don't know if I should be offended or not!!
The way I've been playing lately..
Ask him how he'd like to store the list? Because if it's in an array he's going to have trouble if something gets added to the middle of the stack.
I feel like I'm back at uni but it's far more interesting.
I'd start doing things I don't even want to do just so I can get more achievements. Those Playstation Trophies are like my crack.
:D
"It all depends on how much memory I've got."
I'm going to go ahead and say not much.
For those who want achievements in their real life... There is the Epic Win App... http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/epicwin/id372927221?mt=8
An achievement for doing the laundry and stuff!
:)
:D
Tell him he also needs to know if he's doing the garbage collection or if that's a task on the list, or if it's going to free up more memory.
Garbage collection is automated but the worry is if you add too much to the list, it might start clearing unfinished items.
This is sounding so much like his actual brain, it's worrying me.
Garbage collection isn't automated if the "Pay Council Tax" item isn't on his list!
:)
I'm afraid I'm going to have to stop the madness as the next thing in my do loop is the shower.
christine pays that, so is covered in her do loop.
:)
Automated by Direct Debit
He's up! That answers point 4 of Christine's day plan too!
Although she might have to check if Mr C is still up
Woh......
http://www.abc.net.au/news/events/japan-quake-2011/beforeafter.htm
multi-core :)
Sadly I will miss Giggles Radio today [pub lunch in Richmond] so I will leave my broswer open and absorb any buffering for everyone :D
Anyone that's been following Bahrain will know the protests and government trouble did not cease, but Joe has written about further activity in Manama.
For obvious reasons, this may not be on regular news sites and programmes.
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/03/13/more-trouble-in-bahrain/
Ah... No giggles radio this week... We're on a fortnightly plan... Next week is the next one.
I was thinking about the todo list data structure...
Maybe it would be best to hold in memory CurrentActivity = 1
And then have your list like this
Id, Name, Next
1, Shower, 2
2, Brush Hair, 3
3, Shave, -1
(Where -1 means stop I guess)
Then if you suddenly needed to add "Dry Hair" after "Shower" you would then just read "Shower"'s Next property (2). Then add a new row:
4, Dry Hair, 2
Using the Next property of Shower to put on that row. And then update the shower row's Next property with your new id of 4.
That way you don't need to do mid array inserts.
Golf time..
you lost me at 'brush hair' :)
I would have given up by this point and stropped at how I dont get it :)
*****News Flash******
Recycling done. And coat on. That's 2 in 1!
about to do something i haven't had to do i aaages. am going to close the comments for a short time to do some maintenance. will let ya know once we're back.
apologies in advance, hope alex doesn't spin out of control unable to post updates!
have opened comments again.
nnphew!
***** NEWS FLASH *****nnI have finished the shopping... We are going straight out so I haven't had to take my coat off and Katherine has unpacked the shopping!nnWe're still on track people :)
ndid you have to buffer any status updates?
I seem to have some extra nnnns

hehehehehe. ok, that is weird.
nnNope thank goodness I hadn't built a pending queue

oh wow!
nnI am fascinated
ni think realtime may need updating. it's holding so much back :(
I suppose it's one way to see where people are commenting/quoting from.
worst tracking code ever :)
another test
with a new line.
w00t!
*ahem, as you were, nothing to see here*
aw i missed the nnnnnfun?
hehe. i can make it coma back, there's a comment in a very old line of code behind realtime that reads:
// for some reason live server needs this line
i guess i got bored of figuring out why :)
nnI might just do it myself.
nMore fun that way.
Or not :D
:D The wonders of backslash n. ;)
Hello, folks!
nnNot a bad idea. :D
bah!
nnNyahahahaha! At least my words start with N, so it's not so bad? ;)
Oooooh :)
morning all!
hey lou :)
How is everyone today? I've just realised the time so maybe it's more afternoon...
Everything so far has gone to plan up to point 6 on my list today :)
hiya lou :)
I'm not too bad. How are you today?
i'm good, had lots of sleep, and was woken up to the sound of the boys chatting outside my door about how nice it would be to have a sunday roast. So we're all cooking a massive roast this evening. They're insisting on helping.. i take no responsibility for any fires that may happen :)
i wish my day was like that.
More cooking for you? Ohh I bet you're gutted... :P
Om nom nom though, sounds yummy. I am still in a state of collapse from mum's sunday roast. Home made yorkshires are the best!!
Hey guys,
Spent the day cruising round with Mrs. Goat and a friend at a flea market and then went for lunch at a cafe. Now I have to write some letters...
l.. e... tt...
eh?
Those are 4 letters :)
:) :)
Alrthough I did have a fail moment when I said yorkshires have a similar taste to pancakes...
Must run off now though. See you all later, my friend is here and he must beat me on games.
electronic ones of course.
oh good :)
hehe yeah totally. :) it's not made my day or anything!
hehe i know! I have no small little cake tins though so it may have to be one massive yorkshire like i've done before. it's not problem though... epic yorkshire is awesome :)
*waves*
It may be 3am but I just had a brainwave where I realised I don't know what sort of power sockets they have in Malaysia.
To the internet!
usb power sockets should be mandatory in every country. including this one.
ahh, they use the same as Singapore. Which means they use the same as the UK. Which means I already have the correct adaptor. Woohoo!
Hmmm. ANOTHER iTunes update? What gives?
not for me?
i had one yesterday... am assuming it's the same one?
I guess so, yes. This one updates to 10.2.1, when I just DLed 10.2.0... last weekend, I think.
******news flash*****
I have had lunch
10.2.1 is the version I have, which iTunes has told me is the latest one.
...and back.
:)
Err. I just got 10.2.0 last week...
Another upgrade came out Friday I think
This....this is why the world is going to end
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD2LRROpph0&feature=player_embedded#at=49
Looks like it's a Comedy Central spoof, though?
Judging by the production company, I don't think so.
Is she even singing there?
Nope. Every single syllable is autotuned - very, very badly
I love those glacier cave pics in Lou's post. Absolutely incredible.
So many great links to interesting pics that it is hard to take time to appreciate them all.
Great to have a proper Lou daily
thanks steven :) although just realised i forgot to plug my tumblr *plug fail*
cheers for the daily lou - who'd have thought there'd be so many links?!
Lou,
Just sent you DM about some links that don't work. I didn't realise you were around her now.
have replied, and am fixing :)
I just used the heartbeat for the first time. Don't get me wrong. I have looked at it before and thought it was a great idea but I finally used it. I haven't been around all day so I checked the heartbeat and found that at 11 o'clock there were a lot of comments. So I figured there must be something interesting then so I went back and trawled through them. And it was interesting. I learned that Alex buys shopping but doesn't put it away unless Christine tells him to and that he has difficulty remembering whether or not he is wearing a coat.
I would never have learned any of this without the heartbeat.
More links for me to check out :D
I haven't bothered programming myself a to-do list today. Rather I have just one item on it; make sure I am in front of a suitable information reception solution by midnight tonight so I can watch the first practise session for the 12 Hours of Sebring.
Also, a to-do list for me composed before lunch today would have missed out the trip I've taken to a friend's house for combined computer-fixing and rugby-watching, which has taken all afternon.
Fixed links steven :)
I had no idea Sebring started today but it looks like they have cars on track every day this week
http://americanlemans.com/primary1.php?cat=schedule|event
Thanks Lou
Hello. Round of golf completed, nice to have the sun out for a change. :)
I don't know where you're getting your information but what I have shows no track time until Tuesday
Sorry, Monday
They do. It's as busy a schedule as Le Mans. At least it'll be good practise for the Australian GP pyjama run...
Lou,
I still don't see the link to your agyrotype. I assume the Williams F1 'headline' is meant to be the link but it is just plain text
8 am Monday local time. Sebring's 8 hours behind, so that makes it midnight tonight my time.
it's this one?
http://www.ephotozine.com/article/argyrotype-processing-4694
but.. every time i try fix the link it puts a / at the end... :(
No it is 4 hours behind and that makes it midday UK time.
Afternoon Sidepodlanders.
Loved Leigh's rant.
I have sent an E-mail to Giggles requesting a very interesting song to be played on the 1981 vesion of Giggles Radio next week, in Christine's honour or horror (Take your pick, Mrs C).... It is a very strange and interesting song.
I found it quite surprizing that there are more than 11 stongs that I love that came from 1981. Did not even think about "borrowing" my brother stero equippment back then becasue he left for University two years later I thought... :P
8am is just the paddock open.First running is the test sessionat noon local which is 5pm here
4 hours behind would put it in the Atlantic Ocean...
4 hours? Daylight saving in Florida already?
They changed their clocks last night, we don't change ours for 2 or 3 weeks, so instead of the usual 5 hours it is 4.
Cheers Jordan
:)
Copied from the event schedule at American Le Mans Series:
8:00 am 5:00 pm Paddock open for ILMC/American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón, IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama and Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Competitor Load-in
8:00 am 12:00 pm Test Session - ILMC/American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón (All Classes)
The ILMC/ALMS first practise begins at the same time as the paddock opens.
I want the whole world to change their colcks at the same time. It just causes chaos otherwise
I think I must have got stuck on something slightly more fundamental. I'd got it into my head that Florida was on the other seaboard. Sorry.
#oops
Fixed the picture too.
I love changing colcks
You are correct
Yep
Thanks Lou
Countries with more than one timezone are confusing. Just wait till we get lots of races in Russia. It has 11 different timezones
Antarctica will be the worst one...
Countries with more than one timezone are confusing. Just wait till we get lots of races in Russia. It has 11 different timezones
Antarctica will be the worst one...
In that case we will have it on the south geographic pole so that time will come to a halt at least locally..... (You at at the interestion of all 24 time zones...)
Could be a while before we get races there. Although it adjustable rear wing / KERS / stupidly soft tyres fail maybe ice will be the next suggestion to spice things up
It's true Christine controls everything :)
:D
***** NEWS FLASH *******
I have come home... I'm up to part 12 out of 14!
Well done :)
I seem to be missing something here.....
Check out this comment from earlier: http://sidepodcast.com/post/daily-13th-march-2011/comments#comment-1038410
Today seems to be the day for generating to-do lists of daily schedules.
Apparently I can't even get my one planned item into the right list!
I seem to be missing something here.....
Check out this comment from earlier: sidepodcast.com/p…s#comment-1038410
I see.... I hope I did not ruin you well-concieved plans by sending you an E-mail requesting 1981 songs for Giggles Radio, then....They did not appear to offer much flexiability.....
I'm sure Alex will be Making his Mind Up about songs from 1981 soon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgWBvdoTbS0 ;)
Boo Sony
Well I have already made my selection for 1981 but I have seen your e-mail and we agree on several songs so that's good. But I might not have room to play all 12 you suggested!
♥beat.
I have to take my time.
ooh, i meant to go back and check a few when i was more awake to appreciate them.
it's your daily. add it now.
:D
:D
The two critical songs were already on the list so no need to worry there
Lou,
I hate to be a pain but there is still no link to http://twitpic.com/487ocg only to the original and the processing.
Well, There's the two Critical Songs, it being Sidepodcast, after all, and the one song I am asking as a request for Christine. Past that, it is all gravey.... I think you will kind enough to play a certain song as the group who played it is a one-hit wonder....
The two critical songs were already on the list so no need to worry there
But you have to admit the requested song is just perfect, right? :P
it should be a picture?...
no link?..
if it's not working i have exhausted my ability... *hands over to mr c*
i see the picture?
seems good to me?
It doesn;t appear for me either
*hugs* so pleased i'm not going crazy.
ahh. i think because it's linked directly to a twitpic and they expire after about 12 hours. lou, is the piccy on your flickr account?
no.. it's not. i hate the internet sometimes.
twitpic are annoying like that. mind you posterous and tumblr do the same annoying thing. what you need is to sort out your blog :)
leave it with me. i'll sort it.
#superman
Thanks Lou
You have given me an idea on how to test my new point-and-shoot digital camera. I am going to do some "spirit" photography under controlled conditions.....
That makes sense. Sorry I don't see it
i knnooww... its on the list! :) but i always link to things from my blog anyway..
thankkkk youuu!!!
This is why it is worth all the hassle Lou. You just inspired someone.
I had the same problem the other day, so I just uploaded my pic to Flickr.
Hi folks, it's been a few days since I was around, and it feels like forever.
Lou, I have to tell you that the arty links are beautiful! I especially LOVE Slinkachu's work. Thanks so much for all the links. They're awesome.
heya Kai :)
I can now see Lou's fabulous picture in the post.
Hey Kai.
yay! me too!!
I've had the normal picture from lou's flickr as my desktop background for a few weeks, really love it.
also Mr C the comments seems a kajillion times faster on the doohickey since you did the maintenance earlier.
I've missed you all. We're doing standardized testing at school like we do every year (ick), and it's very hectic and overwhelming. 1 more week of it to go. I'm not feeling 100%, so I've been working, coming home, and sleeping, mainly.
Ooh, I want to have a go!
Test.
Wowsers.
Me too :)
It's pretty megablastic
it used to be a second or two before when i posted but now it's instant. Woo!
spirit photography sounds awesome! make sure you link to them in the comments :)
as you may have noticed... we have moved away from mediatemple today. sidepodcast now hosted with: http://xtrahost.co.uk/
seems to be going well. yay for faster sidepodcast, yell if you spot anything wonky.
:o
Can we still blame media temple if anything happens?
cheers for sorting it mr c!
Yippee! I know you've wanted to do this for a while - good to see you succeed :)
Of course ;)
yaaayy!!
no wonkiness here, but a question - where should I be seeing the heartbeat in the doohickey, or should I be? I saw something about seeing it in a header?
#toobusytobefullyinformed
Go to the homepage, press m and prepare to get your mind blown!
Please note that spirit is in quotes......Please not that I am not scheduled to fly for the next 48 hours....
And yes, those two statements are related..... Anyway, off I go! Bye everyone.
ooooohhhh......
Woooow.
Impressive, and I didn't even know that was possible.
Thanks for the tip.
i would like to thank the crown prince for an extra fortnight.
:)
Press "m" (this calls up the menu) and you'll see the "heartbeat" at the bottom of the menu. Alternatively, press the "-> More" button at the end of the top row of buttons at Sidepodcast.
I got nuthin'. Works on the playground though.
The only problem with doing that is that it always gets a certain song by U2 stuck in my head
@RPM3 Rob Myers
Trying 2 leave Miami, but it won't let go. After an hour delay at the gate we're on the plane and they "put fuel in the wrong tank." Ooops.
This is a musician I follow on twitter. Thought it was interesting.
Fuel in the wrong tank??? Yikes.
No more mediatemple. Can we still spam them on twitter if the site goes down?
Awesome
Thank you
I couldn't see that ending well...
Hi peoples.
I think it means that the plane was imbalanced (eg too much in one wing or another). Happened to one of our helicopters the other day.
http://twitter.com/#!/xtrahost
although, essentially if the server goes down, it's my/our problem unless the server room has caught fire. so tweet @sidepodcast :)
You're welcome. After Sidepodcast saved me from staying up until an unearthly hour for no reason, it was the least I could do...
They put fuel in the wrong tank? That's a new excuse
didn't nick berry sing heartbeat?
I had to scroll down just a smidge to see it.
ohhh the memories. always used to sing that to my mum's best friend when I was young.
good old heartbeat!
I think he did
I still haven't found what I'm looking for...
oooooooh.
:)
I think it's browser-specific? Doesn't work for me either.
AND I STIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL haven't found WHHHAAAAAATTTT I'm looking for
Vertigo?
you sure? works in every browser we tried it with (about 12 of em).
homepage, then hit the m key.
hmmm. I'm in Chrome, so maybe? I have no idea. That's beyond my pay grade.
yup. nothing.
it's really an svg image?
It's not working in IE 8 at the moment... Seems to be something to do with the jquery not loading at all.
It's erroring before the m bit
oh, you can't see the image? thought you couldn't get the expander to expand.
so the image is just blank?
to be more specific, the image fails to load.
but if look at the image itself or go to the playground, it works fine.
bah. i'll have a peek.
it expands. only the image is blank. :D
It definitely doesn't work in Internet Explorer 6, but I doubt Sidepodcast's more advanced bells and whistles were meant to work properly there either.
ta.
Same
Mr C gave up on IE6 some time ago. :)
IE6 barely works in IE6 to be fair
microsoft gave up on IE6 some time ago!
Hehehe.
http://patwotton.posterous.com/for-mr-c
indeed. :D http://ie6countdown.com/index.html
hehe
There are several browsers where SVG doesn't work - apparently Firefox has trouble with it if there are non-SVG files on the same page, Internet Explorer barely supports it in any of its iterations and the other makers of browsers are "working towards support".
:D Though it has to be said I can't get Facebook to work in anything except IE6 (it doesn't even like IE7 on my computer!)
They say it's a countdown. Lots of snazzy stuff - but where's the countdown?
i haven't tested heartbeat that well. the menu is old and well tested though. will tweak a bit, but it's good in IE9, FF4, Safari5 and Chrome10
currently at 12%.
And I can confirm it also works in Opera 11.01.
Ah. I thought they meant a timer (perhaps number of days before they aim to have the world at X%)...
My favourite thing about that page: Friends don’t let friends use Internet Explorer 6.
It works on FF 3.6.15
ace, thanks.
i need that on a shirt :)
AH. Firefox 4 - but FF4 hasn't been properly released yet, right? Just an RC?
Why doesn't it work for me? :|
rc is good enough for firefox. they've never released a properly stable browser since they started :)
Running ping: http://mrschristine.com/2011/03/13/ease-into-10k-week-4/
erm....
It works on some versions of 3.6.15?????
Not for me on the same.
weird.
At least I know I'm not going crazy. :D
Is there an SVG plug-in for Firefox 3?
fine on the Firefox 4 RC mr c.
rankings graphs also looks lovely on ff4: http://sidepodcast.com/rankings
Pat, do you see the graphs?
This is brilliant. Heartbeat even works on Opera Mini 5.1.21594. For reference, this is the browser I currently use... ...on my PDA with its 3-inch screen!
Of course, I can only see 5 hours at a time, but that's a hardware issue and the scrolling function offers a good workaround.
blimey!
No, never have in FF.
I checked the heartbeat in Chrome and it looks good.
Funnily enough, it works fine on Safari on my iPhone. :D
Okay I'm off out again to pop round to Mum's, back in 2 or 3 hours..
Same here. So it's an SVG issue with FF. Alia on the mark, then.
Hi everyone. I am back from my "Spirit Photography" test session of the new point and shoot camera. Apparently my cellar is haunted by tons of spirits... Where and how do I post the results?
I don't but I get a pop up at the top of the page saying "This web site (sidepodcast.com) is asking to store data on your computer for offline use."
Tell her we said hi. :)
See you later.
Got that too. Clicked allow. No help. :|
oh, did you get my DM?
Get yourself a flickr or posterous account and post the links
Hi everyone. I am back from my "Spirit Photography" test session of the new point and shoot camera. Apparently my cellar is haunted by tons of spirits... Where and how do I post the results?
Get yourself a flickr or posterous account and post the links
I have a facebook account, how about that?
That works too.
no... ? I don't see it in my messages feed?
I can confirm heartbeat does not work with the version of IE that came with my PDA - possibly because that barely supports images.
I see the graphs with Chrome but not FF so it is a browser issue
Oh that's weird, I sent one on Thursday. Will resend when I get back later.
That is weird. :(
ok must go, late already
Have a good time!
IE6 who?
:)
Ok I have a flickr account now and the photos are posted.....My callsign is Jordan_F1 on flickr.
Joe has a new post on the latest problems in Bahrain. Looks like things are not getting any better.

That's what happens when both sides have different ideas on sensible prerequisites for discussions...

Please read teh descriptions as I have tried to make this a story....
a very busy week, means we're having pancakes this evening.
back soon :)
Shrove Sunday :D
hehe
I hope your exorcism goes well
See you on the flipside
I am sure my head is going to be spinning in the morning....or the room....At least one of them...
To be fair, the protests never went away. Libya just became a more popular story
Well, I think I will leave this haunt of mine and perform an exorcism on the spirits in my cellar....
True. They just stopped killing each other quite so intensely...
Heheheh!
I don't know if you are still around, Giggles, but I am listening to Back to Work as per your recommendation.
I just watched Lou's podcast of the week. Great to look back on sidepodcast tv but what amazed me was how Christine could read through the list of drivers so quickly yet not sound like she is rushing it and make it sound like normal speech. That is a great and unusual skill
http://sidepodcast.com/post/inside-track-melbourne-preview
Hiiiii :)
Hmm, not bad. Far too softly spoken though.
Hello!
You shouldn't be so critical! I don't think I've ever struggled to understand anything you've said. Ever. You have an amazing voice for radio.
I hope that's more of a complement than having a face for radio :P
Hi Alison
*****News Alert*******
I have started watching television :)
Hehe, I appreciate that. Just looking back it sounds like I'm reading a lullaby rather than ramping up a race.
I didn't notice it was soft when I watched it. Maybe the softness stops it becoming a string of joined up syllables and helps to make it easily understandable.
If "face for radio" means "it's not good enough for a medium where it is visible", the equivalent would be "voice for books".
Voices are pretty much essential for any radio format that isn't pure instrumental, so "voice for radio" would be as high a compliment as "face for the cinema".
All the bigger shock when the V8s start screaming ;)
If you did another series this year you would be soooo much better :D
Ok. It was worth a try
Hehehe. I'm not sure ANY teams are offering video this year, it would be a tough ask.
actually, that isn't the #1 problem. paying for the bandwidth is the blocker. we are... unfortunately too popular.
Well, I know at least Sauber do videos... so if worse comes to worse it could be just loops of them...
It's hard to make something out of nothing. Another fail from F1. You would think Bernie and the teams would get together and make sure people had the raw materials to sell the sport for them
Are you saying if no-one was watching, you'd have the best podcast ever :P
Does anywhere sell bandwidth in bulk?
That is a problem too
sadly not, at least not enough at good enough speeds.
I think it's more "if no-one was charging for people watching, they'd have the best podcast ever" ;)
:(
Clearly there's a gap in the market...
that is exactly it!
"hypothetically the best podcast ever"
bandwidth prices are rising, if anything.
There'd still be space for a bulk discounter. Surely overheads don't rise completely linearly as amount of bandwidth produced rises?
ah i see. yeah, there are discounts. we use approx 2TB per month (although maybe 3TB now).
if we used amazon for bandwidth, it's $0.150 per GB. until you use 40TB a month, when it drops to $0.100.
http://aws.amazon.com/cloudfront/
So you're too big for the standard model and too small for the one that would make more sense to you (which is presumably aimed at humongously-sized sites)? It's tough in the middle :(
indeed. we're fine doing audio, but the crofty video we put up last week is already on it's 2nd server after it maxed out the first one in 4 days.
Absolutely incredible
that wasn't the exact phrase i used, but yeah.
I think I've found a hosted server comparison website. Maybe it will come in handy one day...
Good evening, er, again. :)
That's class :) :)
for lukeh and pat, absolute radio, are playing a live manics live gig now.
ooh now I'm in a quandary because I finally have time to listen to pt 2 of Joe..
I went for Manics... gotta be done. :)
Which one is it on? The main one on the website seems to have Simon Le Bon.
ahh, absolute 90's i think. 2nd song now.
Got it, cheers. Didn't even know the station existed.
We just discovered it recently and... I'm not sure there's been a bad song.
:) I'll definitely check it out for some evening listening then.
a few too many ads, apart from that, all good.
I tell a lie. There was a Deeply Dippy issue.
ooh, theme from mash.
#manicslive
Just looking at their last.fm playlist and that's good blogging music is that, I may have a lot of it already but i like when someone else chooses :)
Design For Life here
Aha :)
eh? how's that possible?
There is no need for that ever to be played
I always liked that.
I suspect I'll be buying quite a lot more too
What's happenin' podders?
Good evening one and all
Have you had that already? I'm on a popup with this URL in the bar:
http://player.absoluteradio.co.uk/core/radioplayer/a9/
We didn't have ours until Saturday morning
#Sidepodtime
nope. listening through the ipod though, could be buffered.
Hi Bassano
Oh the gig I'm listening to just ended.
perfect.
what? 3rd song.
Hi. Was listening to a Manics gig on the radio but we seem to have ended up in different places
There was on Giggles Radio too I believe... It's a great song and I stand by that ;)
#Sidepodtimeandspace
Pid pod pid pod pid pod pud
I went to this page and pressed the Listen Live button which gave me the popup I said about earlier.
apologies sir. i can't believe we're an hour behind, but maybe we are.
Your cheese level is Gorgonzola when the average bod is only ready for Camembert. I'm not sure you are the best judge of 'great' :D
Maybe it was a different one. :) I'm psychic and can tell you that after the Manics, Absolute will play She Bangs The Drum. Just wait and see.
Really? How... nice
No worries, I just can't work out how you buffered that far back.
I agree it is a good song and I always liked something about it.. I just don't want to listen to it ever. :)
:D Work today has completely mashed my brain.....
Quote fail [quite appropriate as it as was for Jordan] I meant to say:
Why does everyone think.. no, I know why :)
******last news flash*****
I am in bed. I have compled my tasks as exclusively predicted by Sidepodcast's crack team of Lukeh, Christine and me (that's me me not him me).
#winning
I've been there
Do you find it can make you gas any drivel to a friend who will listen, for ages?
What a fantastic story of achievement today has been.
Yay!
Doing the me me thing reminded me of one of my favourite sentences: I was walking past the fish and chip shop when I noticed that there was something wrong with the sign, the spaces between fish and and and and and chips were different.
Nick and I had a 15 minute conversation about how big Tesco was far away but small Tesco was not :P #ilovefatherted
No, that's normal. I mean real drivel
I'd like to thank everyone who's helped make today what it was, I'd like to thank my agent, my... Etc, etc. :)
Are you saying Nick is Dougal or Tesco shops are cows?
#confused
Mr C
I'm not liking the anomalous Alt -Enter rules across formats here
What's going on, has it always been like this?
DD vs Web Realtime?
I feel like I have missed something huge
is any of that english?
I keep forgetting you can't mind read
No.
Alt-Enter is not a combo I like to press because it asks me if I want to report the site for malware or spam...
He can't?
I WISH Nick was Dougal :D
In Desktop Doohickey, I can Tab - Enter to post [sorry, Alt was a red herring]
In Safari on Realtime, I cannot. Has it always been this way?
:D
Your life would be too easy then, you wouldn't be happy
I can tab - enter on FF and Chrome and IE whatever it was Mr C made me install
Well... It was a dark and stormy night, and the captain said to his mate, "tell me a story, and so he began... 'it was a dark and stormy night and the captain said to his mate tell me a story and so he began...
Or you can read back. Esstentially, what i'm saying is it might not be worth finding out.
In Ye Olde, Tab-Enter searches for me.
it's an apple setting.
sys prefs > keyboard > all controls.
have you bought a new mac?
No. Though I usually post from DD, not Safari
Ta.
Mr c can be very persuasive
just enable 'all controls' for tabbing and you're all set.
:)
Done. Testing...
Yay!
That's what I did. After Mr C told me to :)
He even made me install IE once. It crashed my computer. He may have been ill...?
Jeez louise, is there anything he can't do?
OI!! I can be happy :( :( :(
i get other people to install IE so i don't have to.
Right well all of this being in bed has made me think it's bed time. Night all.
I generally ignore sentences with that request. I advise you to as well
He absolutely forced me to do it.
*salutes*
Make Red Bull Cup Cakes with ease and little mess?
I don't think so, and my name's not Louise ;)
Night Alex
That wasn't my point. If life was too easy, you wouldn't be
G'night Sir
I just watched Top Gear's Middle East episode. I liked it.
I liked that one too. Is probably the last good one I saw. I didn't see the special before it, though it's on the PVR
Dare I ask, was the house recording anything tonight?
Hmmmm.... I don't like it. Dougal wouldn't say things like this to me!!!
not as yet chap. we picked up a web server and walked it from california to london.
Did it swim well in the middle?
That's cool. I just need to adjust our announcements appropriately. Alleged voicemail may be slightly out of date, f they were ever to appear *wink*
walks on water
k, should we expect a revised edition? cause that one was brilliant.
:)
Cheeky!
We'll see
?
Superb :)
Choice of dates
ok.
Ooooh a date??

Allen Wedge blogged about the IndyCar web streaming thing, I mention it because he works in marketing.

Whooo, wow. PBS was showing the Muscial version of Victor Hugo's Les Miserables. I could not help thinking that the Sidepodcast version would have Constable Giggles chasing Steven Roy forever over the thief of an HRT cog.....
cheers. just mental.
What a strange imagination you have?
what... the...
http://twitpic.com/498vjy
(see the text beneath for more)
nice :)
That is genius. Just what I need for the occasional visit to Knockhil
where do you buy one?!
Whooo, wow. PBS was showing the Muscial version of Victor Hugo's Les Miserables. I could not help thinking that the Sidepodcast version would have Constable Giggles chasing Steven Roy forever over the thief of an HRT cog.....
What a strange imagination you have?
Not really, what in F1 terms has as little value as a loaf of bread? a Cog from HRT is about it. Actually, I think the bread is or more value in F1 circles....
Oh, you mean casting you in the role of Jean Valjean... Well, Constable Giggles always suspects you first of any skullduggery in Sidepodcastland. Sort of "Round up the usually suspects" routine....
I have no idea
A lap of Knockhill would be fun in that thing, sitting at that height.
I think the first section of the track would be a bit hairy given how much that thing is going to roll
Blah. get a couple of those things and race each other at Knockhil or any other circuit fo your choice....
ooh new DHL livery for RHR http://plixi.com/p/83835995
That man looks like Chesney Hawkes.
The one and only
That should be easy to spot
No, not that. Though things are picking up there too
No he doesn't! :D
Don't insult that Ryan.
oh good. :)
I'm thinking of going back to online dating.
I'm watching Taken on channel 4 and love actually has infected my brain. I can't help but keep thinking of that film when I see liam neeson.
Not even schilnders list!
I ♥ Lou's photography links
Me too! Aren't they awesome? Slinkachu is fantastic. Those made my day.
I love the miniature people one :D reminds me of lou's little lego man pierre.
I watched that last week on E4 I think
I missed it at the time but if you get near the end, find out Who's Driving The Boat?
Me too, those are the Slinkachu ones. I have a little abominable snowman on my desk at work.
i based my first uni project around his work :)

i only have pierre cause of Slinkachu. :)
oooh!
Doesn't work so much in the UK but... http://cupidtino.com/
That's too terrifying for words....
:D
I had no idea
Thanks. I've been on and off a few in the past with no luck.
i had to purchase 5 little lego men for my project, which i based around Slinkachu's work. Pierre was my fav little lego man. still have the others on my window ledge though.
Do you still have pierre carrying around with you?
I had never seen these before, am lovin' it :D
I don't understand how anyone with a full time job is supposed to meet people tbh....
It does take a bit of shopping to find the right deli
of course! he's always in my purse :)
yay! :)
hehe am pleased you like them! :)
he even came to berlin with me :)
Exactly.
Better than Mac status :D
Parachute man is awesome! oh, and the guys trying to get out the door! Well, they are all great. What a fun way to play. :)
hehe i themed it round an escape. hired out some studio lights and made my flatmates room into a studio for 2 days. was great fun! :)
I love those pics. I wonder if anyone has tried those with real people and tilt shift
I have see Pierre in person and I can confirm he is just as awesome as he appears to be in photos. Such a nice chap.
Big man far away?
Reminds me a little of this guy http://distillery.s3.amazonaws.com/media/2011/03/12/ea5a9ff1eb1447459ac43d3de5fd55c2_6.jpg
He appears in this chaps Instagram feed quite a bit
http://web.stagram.com/n/barnel02/
ohhhh speaking of tilt shift. we learnt all about where that effect comes from this week! :) Large format cameras!! ahhh large format cameras are so much fun :)
Or cows
ohhhhhh! yes alot of people use that figure. can't remember his name but it's very popular on flickr.
oh, he's cute!
Have you looked into any good tilt shift apps on Android Lou>
Awww. I want one!
Yes
You can do tilt shift?
they're called Danbo's and i want one too. look on flickr and you'll find some stunning images of them
like these;

I like these from the same dude

i have. I have one on my phone atm. but tbh i'm not a big user of tilt shift.
It has it's uses, I think it's overused but can be nice on a busy scene from afar
Have you done any yet?
very true. however i'm yet to use it.. i live in farnham... it's not very busy here :D
Taken was alright. I preferred Love Actually
eeeeeeeeeeeeek at the credits though!
I love link avenues.
This is a bit Matrix/Willaim Burroughs like
http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/human-metamorphosis-15-pics
yep.
Well not as such.. it's the same effect. Basically it's done by moving the 2 parts of the camera to move the field of focus and it's depth. In theory if i took a large format camera to the top of a building and took a shot i could create a tiltshift effect like the digital versions. however it's so hard to move a large format anywhere i wont be doing that.
Who was driving the boat????
It was definitely Hugh Grant or the guy who tried to romance Keira Knightley
#moviecrossover
You need a large format camera mounted on the back of a car
These are all so fun.
bit too expensive i think.. plus you have to put in the film, take out the dark slide and take the shot from beside the camera.. not sure it would be worth risking attaching it to a car :)
I drive around for chocolate. Alphonso loves a day out.
wonder if Blue Peter have ever made such a device.
"here's one that fell off earlier.."
was thinking more of the price of the camera.. and the film.. :)
Omg!! that programme on the Mille Miglia that was on bbc last year is now on iplayer!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00g82ff/The_Real_Italian_Job_James_Martins_Mille_Miglia/
the journalism students are going to see the mille miglia this year :(
And you're not?
The key phrase there being journalism students ;)
It was on BBC2 tonight
So unfair
no :(
well... not yet.
This may or may not have been the reason i want to find out the head of Journalism's name... :)
You forgot 'Mille Miglia'
:D
Cross departmental.. things
Do it. It's the Mille Miglia
What a good idea
yes. They may want a photographer to help document their trip for free....
My very cool and into f1/ all things motorsport uni tutor told me :)
How considerate of you
:D
Well, I think you need to spend a lunch or two in the journalism dept.
Oh maaaannnnn.... I brought home some work to do tonight and somehow it's tomorrow and I haven't done it. BOOOO!!!
If you'd said we would have shoo'd you
i am planning to... when i find out where it is :D
It's boring work, I'll do it nowwww. If I focus all my attention on it, I'd probably fall asleep....
i'm just a kind person like that ;)
Are they all on a secret mission?
probably :)
It's here http://www.ucreative.ac.uk/farnham/map
This is why Lou is not a journalist :D
I already had to tell her who the head of journalism was
It's no where on the site at all! you would have thought it would have been in the emails section.. like all organised into departments.... but no...
On twitter @freelanceNbound or e-mail @ freelanceunbound@gmail.com
Also on twitter @ucajournonews
well.. you're obviously a better searcher than i am. thanks.
I have had many years of practise and in the past literally had to spend a full week at work starting with almost zero information and research something then oonce I had a basic grasp of it had to find out who used it and have searched thousands of company websites.
I forgot the website http://news.freelanceunbound.com/
