Hello there, how are you doing? It is Saturday so that is probably good news. I accidentally rejoined the world of work this week so the weekends are precious once again. What are you doing with your weekend? Perhaps you are working, or studying, or spending it in front of the TV. Let us know, particularly if you are watching some kind of sport. We love sports. All of them. Well... most of them, anyways.
So, what has been going on recently? I've been playing around with the iPad quite a lot this week, as Garageband was released, and it's pretty fun. However, Mr C would like me to point out that I started writing this daily on the iPad but gave up and chose a regular computer instead because it's just easier. Sorry mobile fans, it's just the way it is.
Today should be the final day of F1 testing before the 2011 season gets underway. So far it has been quite a mixed week in Barcelona. Red Bull were on top for a couple of days, then Sergio Pérez managed to end on top despite having his fastest lap on a previous day disallowed. Yesterday it was all about Michael Schumacher so who will it be today? Place your bets now.
We published the second part of our Aside with Joe podcast yesterday. The chat with Joe was our first of 2011 and was so long and amazing that we had to split it into two. If you've got an hour or so to fill, then Joe can talk you through all the important news ahead of the season.
It's also worth mentioning HRT, I suppose. Or is it? They launched their 2011 car yesterday, officially, although we had already seen pictures of it. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we're going to see it in real life because it couldn't go testing yesterday due to lack of parts and it can't go testing today because those parts were refused at customs. It seems to me that HRT were more prepared for the upcoming season last year, and despite what Colin Kolles says, they really aren't in control. At least most of the people we love have already escaped from the team.
Speculation began yesterday that with the BBC making cuts left, right and centre, Formula One might be under threat. I don't really know how I feel about it, but it would be a travesty if Wimbledon wasn't on the BBC. It's such a massive part of the year, I can't imagine those two weeks in June without it. What do you think? Does it matter where something is broadcast or will you follow it wherever it goes?
That'll do for me today, I think. Thoughts and love to all in Japan, of course. Have a good weekend, lovely people, and stay in touch.
Ganbatte kudasai, people of Japan, and hello to anyone else who may be reading.
Christine, thank you for the lovely daily :)
Great Aside with Joe part deux. Points...
- Jow better have another "Audience with" in Canada! Or Else!
- Being on the east-coast (Montréal) I don't know any other way than getting up at 07h00 to watch the quali / race. It is fantastic to watch a race and at 10h00 you are done. (not being a baseball/football fan also contributes) On the other hand I can watch ALMS, Rolex Grand-Am, etc. The (local) afternoon races are a nice change, but I honestly don't think I would want to watch a season of them, even though I watch other racing in the afternoon.
Great 'cast, as usual. Cheers!
I have a very vested interested in that the BBC does seem to offer the best coverage of the F1 races (expect Allen and Legard) and ITV coverage was very poor in that well you would miss the only crash, mistake or pass of the entire race....
About the only other channel that I could pick up F1 racing was on Speed. Okay, I ca see Jack for Jacques, Alex for Alexander, but Tiger ? Nuff' said. Then there was Fox coverage. 8 hour tape delay.
Tennis is not a big deal. Cut the funding for it if you have too. But I have taken a quick glance at teh BBC TV schedules and especially for BBC 3, BBC 4 and BBC HD, what the heck is there left to cut ?
Who was/is Tiger? The only driver I can think of for whom that would make any sense is Tiago Monteiro (Tiago is Portuguese for Tiger), and somehow I don't think you'd have been bothered about the nickname if it was last used 4 years ago...
I am playing a demo of the Back to the Future game. Tempted to buy!
Mmmmm, it was goooood.
Aw the demo just ran out. I want to know what happens next! I wonder how much it is to buy...
hmm, $29.95 for all 5. That's not a bad price per game. Maybe I shall wait til more are released :)
In other exciting 'what I've done with my PS3 today' news, Sony have released software for Vaios that enables them to talk to the PS3, so now I can link my laptop to mine, and use the keyboard for typing, or use it as a Remote Play device. My mind has done a Lukeh. Boom.
That isn't bad at all. I played it on the iPad so it was something like 3.99 which is more than acceptable for a bit of Doc action. How far did you get?
I got the notebook back and then it ended :(
Oh wow, loads of great stuff to come!
I'll probably end up buying it on Thursday, I always find spending money in the Playstation Store much more acceptable on pay day :)
Hello.
Turns out the router wanted restarting..
Yay, you're back!
I see Ron was banned for "Doing a Lewis"...
Perhaps they both suffer from colour blindness...
:)
Not for too long today though. Got to go to the office to restart the server in a while (power was down), probably watch some films with a mate and/or go to pub, followed by a comedy night in town with Arthur Smith and Shappi Khorsandi.
Helloooo sidepodworld! :)
That sounds like a marvellous day!
Ooh, I've seen Shappi Khorsandi a couple of years ago. Very good.
Not bad. :) Had a haircut an hour ago.
Yeah she's good on telly. Apparently it isn't part of her official tour so we'll see what we get..
Oooh the dreaded haircut.
good afternoon Sidepodcast, hope you're all well!
Afternoon :)
Hello there.
What's everyone up to today?
Just finished work and now chilling out a bit with the news on again. Nice quick shift that flew by though which is good. Love early finishes on a Saturday :)
How about you lou?
Hi Lukeh & Lou
as we predicted yesterday i slept for nearly the entirety of your shift. haven't had a lie in for ages tho! Today my plan is working, resting, cleaning. also i have the aim of not leaving the flat. so far so good :)
Woohoo! Epic long lie in for the win :)
Outside is a scary old place, sounds like a plan.
Hiya Pat. Sounds like you have a good day planned out too :)
you say epic long.. i would have preferred to have kept sleeping however flatmates decided to get up early today = noise! lol
Ahhh boo. Poor show from noisy flatmates. *shakes fist*
Least you got the chance though to have a bit of time to relax which is good. I just spent my morning laughing at our silly delivery driver :)
Yep. Bit dazed at the minute, lack of caffeine, de-scaling the kettle now..
Today is the first day i am able to keep tabs on the live testing. My following of testing this year has been a bit of a fail.
hehe they were playing good music though! I'll happily wake up to the sound of Foals so you'll hear no grumbling from me :)
:D
not good timing for the rain then
no, not really. I've seen photos, but haven't followed it closely like previous years. turns out its harder to follow testing when you're at uni than when your at school...
awww.
Good afternoon
iTunes Home Sharing feature is great
Your whole library on your iPod device anywhere on your network
Yay!
i blame our stupid 1mb connection, not that it effects my time, but it's so rubbish i like to blame it for everything!
Hi Bassano
Was a Finnish University out of the question? ;)
Have a done a bit of writing about Japan - http://toata.wordpress.com/2011/03/12/168-thoughts-with-a-nation/
if only i'd have known it would be this bad i would have considered it! lol
Still amazes me they have just a 1mb connection over the whole halls. Such a lazy effort by the suppliers!
Pat, for info:
Lots of iPad games on sale this weekend details here & here
turns out it's not lazy, just a very old contract. they can upgrade it to a 20mb connection for the same amount of money..... next year O.o
Ok, not sure I'll have time to look through those this weekend.
That makes sense :)
And Mr C [if you're still lurking]: iPad 2 teardown from iFixit
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPad-2-Wi-Fi-Teardown/5071/1
did you read today's daily? am so happy that christine gave up ipad blogging and booted up her machine instead. desktops ftw :)
Yes, I can see how that'd be the case.
It's fine for the occasional post but is much easier on a full blown machine
Afternoon everybody
:)
Hey Leigh
\
may get a keyboard for the ipad2.
Hullo sir
heya!
I'm still torn which probably means when I see one, I won't hesitate :D
Hehe. It's tricky because I couldn't scroll and copy pasting urls is a nightmare. Plus I was too tired to make the effort :)
Hi Mr Bassano, Mr Lukeh, Ms Lou
How are you all today?
Not too bad thank you leigh, how are you?
Great news for IndyCar.
Firestone has reversed its decision to pull out and will be with the series for another two years
http://www.indycar.com/news/show/55-izod-indycar-series/41625-not-so-fast-firestone-makes-tracks-back/
:)
Very chilled, I'm heading into town in a bit to purchase a CD for a friend's birthday
[Physical media, grrrrrrrrr!]
Surprisingly good.
A very good friend of mine finished in work yesterday and is moving up north, so a "bit of a night" was had.
I thought I would be in worse shape, but I'm holding up.
Small mercies eh :D
Make sure you hydrate
:)
I still enjoy having the physical feeling of owning a CD personally. DVD's not so much anymore.
I'm still kind of stuck between the two.
Barcelona seems incredibly quiet today - shame about Hispania's situation
I drink lots of water regardless, so that's no problem.
Doesn't sound as if they'd have done much anyway...
Hi folks.
Hi RG,
Aye, but at least they would have gotten a shakedown completed
I'm sure bernie will be doing that soon enough
Pastebot is a very useful app
This may sway my upgrade decision. Seems to be no page re-loading when switching tabs in Safari

If anybody is planning to donate to the Japan relief aid the British Red Cross are accepting donations now.
http://bit.ly/gtpYvV
About time! Silly Japan Red Cross.
Lukeh, thank you for highlighting the delightful Tiny Wings, marvellous little game.
Morning everyone. Wr have bought a car!
Fantastic little fun at 59p!
Hey Gavin. Exciting, what did you buy?
Oooh, what colour?
Hey.
Indeed. Both Mrs. Goat and I were having a lot of fun playing that on the train last night!
Shark Grey!
It's really satisfying when you get that momentum just right :)
Unusual!
Is it a VW/Audi?
[They also have Dolphin Grey]
Does it have "go faster" stripes?
Yeah, love it when I nail it and then the little birdie gets launched into the clouds!
Nope, it's a Peugeot 207. We managed to get about £2000 in extras for free with it because my Father in law knows the dealer, who was a recent Danish touring car champion. We get it in 2 weeks.
My wife does not need that kind of encouragement ;)
Anyway how are we all today? I see that Japan is trying to act out the prequel to the 2012 movie - pretty shocking stuff over there!
...falls mainly on the pit lane...
Very good
:)
Love Ade Edmonson
:D
Just visited Grandma and had some lovely grilled cheese sandwiches :)
Gahhhh....
In bad IndyCar news, they may be pulling live streaming from their site...
Grrrr...
Grilled cheese! Yum :)
Absolutely :) Grandma had bacon and tomatoes with bread (she's not the world's greatest fan of cheese).
You know the Spanish test is going badly when the crowd cheers because a covered Ferrari's being pushed around in the pits.
I'm surprised anyone's still there
Rosberg's still doing laps, apparently!
4.4 cm of rain has fallen at Barcelona so far today. Paul di Resta would have been right at home had Force India not finished testing yesterday...
Looking at the weather in Scotland he may have been better off in Spain :)
I am surprised Pirelli aren't making them test out monsoon tyres!
Anyone getting boat building practice in? Or is that banned under the RRA?
I don't think so because the teams have a tight deadline to get stuff to Australia, and the one team that doesn't appear to care (Mercedes) appears to think there's not enough water to excuse Rosberg from running the car...
"we are just going out to test the tub..." ;)
:)
Perhaps Nico feels left out he never had a good run at Korea ;)
owowowow!
Maldonado and Hamilton are now out there too. Pastor I can understand, but Lewis?
Lewis loves a dab of oppo!
I say it in jest, but in all seriousness we now have so many races on the calendar where a monsoon is possible - china, Malaysia, korea, singapore, Belgium...
Belgium rains every year
Not really a proper monsoon but it sure feels like it :D
Biblical.
Maybe not, but we all got so wet and they never bothered running the je pe duex and je pe twoh on Friday!
I disagree. Even I couldnt save the animals from Belgium!
Old Testament style!
Just seen the end of the France-Italy match and it was incredible :O
Just returning for a sec to yesterday's discussion about Japan, New Scientist have made an interactive map of tectonic activity there since 1900.
http://www.newscientist.com/blogs/shortsharpscience/2011/03/interactive-graphic-japans-dea.html
Wow
Yeesh...
It has been rather violent! I'm amazed that they've managed to make a transport system as effective as theirs and have such an impressive set of city skylines with all those quakes!

I does have returned folks. My d'interweb was down for a while
:/
Welcome back :)
Late ping -->
Formula 1 Pre-Season Testing (Barcelona, March 11th) http://wp.me/pSi0N-U9
I have a tumblr!
Ping: http://loujohnson.tumblr.com/
COOOOL.
do you like the design? tumblr is sooo limited with designs but i kinda liked the simplicity of this one. you and Mr C are my experts when it comes to web design though. :)
I like the font. It's weird that the Whole New World title jumps when you hover over it, but that's a minor tiny problem. I give it a thumbs up. More updates please.
Looks lovely and simple :)
Are you still thinking of names for it lou?
*thinks*
Gah!! My laptop is being stupid today - just had another wifi outtage
:/
yeah. while Lou's Tumblr is fine, it's a bit boring tbh.
ohh that is strange. Not sure i have any control of that. I need to sort out my blog in a moment too.
One criticism of Tumblr is it's not that organised.. no tabs or anything that i've found yet *sobs*
However it's very simple to use.. Having an experiment with it and my blog today. Day of rest is quite productive :) Will try update more regularly than i have with my blog, the simple aspect should help i hope.
how about something like 'a life in focus' or 'on a roll' (roll of film?) or something'? something catchy to do with your photography and how integrated it is into your life? Just random ideas :)
I don't know much about tumblr, never really known about it but i assume it's like an insta-blog type of thing, an easy way to share photos and like.
Loving the heartbeat in the header! :)
have integrated sidepodcast heartbeat into the site header on all pages: http://sidepodcast.posterous.com/heartbeat-now-integrated-into-site-header
#protip: hit the 'm' button to reveal/hide.
when you have so many earthquakes every year you try to build to cope because you know it'll happen again, rather than be shocked when everything falls down repeatedly.
you beat me!
That gives me the menu, but sadly no graph beneath.
you may need to refresh.
I went to look in the header for giggles radio and didn't realise you just added it right now!
ohhhhhh Jules is pregnant!! - http://my.rednoseday.com/personalPage.aspx?registrationID=353778
Refreshed, pressed "m" and currently seeing that lovely blue line. Thank you :)
Congratulations!
about 10 seconds before you commented!
Awww yay for Jules! :)
also yay that she's doing something for Red nose day :)
That's just odd. I geniunely had no idea when I opened the homepage header up. #spooky
w00t!
the graph will update every 5 mins, but not automatically, you'll have to refresh.
will build in an autoupdater when i get time, then it'll move with every new comment.
Then comes the machine that goes PING!
:)
Good point. I've heard that Californian buildings are built to sway in quakes, because they're less likely to fall if they bend a little (I haven't read up on it, but the science sounds solid).
In ironic news: the day I buy a car and the train I am supposed to take home is over half an hour late. 2 weeks until delivery can't come soon enough!
In Wellington they have started mounting high rise buildings on giant rubber ball bearings .,.
It's definitely true, we do it in New Zealand too. The earthquake standards for buildings in Wellington are higher than for other cities because they were the city expected to get the next big deadly one.
Seeing as all my family and friends live in wellington, it's something I worry about a lot now. I didn't when I lived there though.
My parents were very worried from the day my brother announced his plans to move there.
I feel for people unlucky enough to have been caught up in both recent quakes like this lady. http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/asia/japan-earthquake/4762603/Jo-flees-NZ-quake-for-Japan-ordeal
I really should pay more attention to NASCAR...
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/none-the-wiser-as-f1-pre-season-testing-ends
In fairness, if your nerves are shot because you lived through a large quake, Japan isn't the best choice of countries to live in!
So we just got the train and its a brand new one with loads of space. Hopefully no more technical problems as these new trains are famous for them!
Ohh we've unearthed Micro Machines in the attic! How I wish I still had my Sega Megadrive right now.
I tried to make a track for real once. I used to love playing the original on the SNES. Have you tried an emulator?
Speaking of which, I found something awesome in the google chrome store - it's called NESbox and it pretty much has every game available for free!
Yeah emulators can be a burden as much as they can be a blessing I find. Maybe it's just the perfectionist in me who doesn't like the fact emulatso don;t perfectly port the game as they can get a bit buggy though.
NESbox is free though, so it's not too bad. Some of the games are really dated though!
Yes!!
The internet works!! (kind of)
:)
The elders of the internet are resting on their laurels for various commentors at the moment it seems :)
Huh?? Martin Haven is doing what now..?
;)

Something for the Weekend: The Ruts "Babylon's Burning" http://tinyurl.com/6d7fck3
Ahhhh... fixing up the F1 Archive at the minute. Finally getting round to splitting the "F1 category" into sub-categories. A pain, but something I've been putting off for ages
Ping: http://mrschristine.com/2011/03/12/no-flaps-or-jacks-as-far-as-i-can-tell/
Whoa. Just took the subway here in Copenhagen and they had a video of a chef showing off his cooking app for the iPad. Then it cut to a scene where someone was cooking while watching the iPad video :)
Did you go on a subway or into Subway?
I've just come home from work and someone's unplugged the freezer at the wall :(
Ruined food?
Defrosting maybe?
Although if the food is still in there... #uhoh
Yeah.... there's a full freezer of watery rubbish...
Oh goodness :(
What a stupid thing to do!
Silly - that needs to be watched otherwise it could ruin the floor too should it leak
Christine I am going to take your wise movie words and give Growns Up a watch I think after your glowing review :)
A nice Saturday evening now. This song is making me quite happy
:)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxtJoGdujYo&feature=related
Oh well, luckily for me I ran down all my food before I went to London and I haven't bothered to properly stock up again so I only had like 2 things in there but still.... Very wasteful. I've cleaned it out.
Ooh, hope you like it!
I was um-ing and er-ing before your film watch but it does sound great and the trailer makes me laugh so yay :)
Does anyone know if when iTunes rentals are downloading you can watch whats done whilst it downloads in the background? It makes sense to me in my mind but I don't know if I've explained that right...
You can. Best to give it a bit of a buffer, but you definitely don't have to wait until it's done.
oooh yay. Tis about 1/4 done but I'll give it a few more minutes to get a bit more. Thanks :)
On a subway train
Evening Ping -->
Formula 1 Pre-Season Testing (Barcelona, March 12th) http://wp.me/pSi0N-WK
Heeehehehehe, Grown Ups was fantastic :D
hi lukeh
YAY!!
I wanted to pat the man in the cast on the head. Awwww.
He lost the rest of his MCA :)
If anyone is interested by the looks of things the video section of Formula1.com has had a major upgrade. Now you can change the playback speed for slow motion and it's all been overhauled too as well as linking from a certain video moment.
Evening peoples.
What do I need to know about today?
I'm still shocked that IndyCar are pulling streaming. Apparently this will get more people watching it on TV.....
...idiots.
The test in Spain (for F1) was pretty much a washout (I joked Paul di Resta would have felt right at home had Force India been testing today).
The test in France (for Le Mans Series) went OK - the new Ferrari 458 was in the upper midfield of its class but it was really cold and a bit damp, which may have affected things.
Apparently there's also a test in the USA (for American Le Mans Series) but I haven't given it much attention.
Italy beat France at Six Nations rugby.
Someone mistook me for a NASCAR expert.
Haven't they spotted ALMS heading towards streaming for the same purpose?
Trust me, ten years of the music industry has taught me that the top end execs are often the most out of touch people you could ever meet.
Just got round to reading that guardian article. Do we think it's likely F1'll be taken off the beeb?
That is insane. They put it on TV and advertisers pay because people watch. Why not stick ads on the stream? It is exactly the same thing except everyone in the world can watch.. Just like f1. Living in the old protectionist world.
I thought the new guy was more sensible
Unknown - it's pulls in quite big viewing figures
There is that :(
I don't reckon it'll get dropped personally. Think they may cut a few things though budget wise.
Not until 2014 - only Sky would pick up the bill before then, and I'm still not convinced about them.
It's thought the idea comes from NBC execs
I saw that Lewis was 30 seconds off the pace so I figured it was unlikely the McLaren could be that bad.
Wales beat Ireland with a as the result of dodgy refereeing decision and Ireland being stupid in the last minute.
Interesting
No chance.
F1 sponsors insist on terrestrial free to air TV to get the biggest audience
:D
I can understand why they don't want the competition. It is in their interests but not Indycars.
Still brainless. Looks like I'll be picking up an illegal stream - and everyone else - will blog my annoyance later
Fair enough. I can't imagine ever getting anything other than free to view tv tbh.
It was quite amusing - I was asked what grade of sportscar licence Michael Waltrip would be given, which would have been easier if I'd:
a) heard of the bloke
b) heard of the level of NASCAR he was in
c) known it was even possible to get into Sebring with a new car at this late stage (rumour has it that's what he's doing, and the question was chasing information about it)
Ihavehadthis parked on a tab since someone linked to it a few days ago and only just got round to checking it out. THe first few shots are incredible and the guy in number 24 is barking mad.
http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2011/02/nyiragongo_crater_journey_to_t.html
I don't think the beeb will drop F1 as it's 6 million viewers worth. I think they are trying to get Bernie to frop the price.
That sounds highly likely.
The TV companies don't seem to understand that their transmission can be re-broadcast.
If the beeb don't have to bother about adverts, why do viewing figures matter so much?
justification for the cost
It helps them justify the licence fee level to the government.
The BBC are just using Bernie's negotiating tactics. No way are they going to give away F1 or Wimbledon or any other major part of their offering. Imagine them trying to negotiate a higher licence fee with their usual line that no-one else can do what they do if they have given away some of the big set piece events. They can shut down BBC3 and BBC4 to save money because all they do is what a hundred other channels do. Stick their content on the iplayer.
It's hardly that expensive though... I guess I feel like I get good value from their podcast/radio output, I'm not that bothered about what's on tv.
Or put it on the near-useless daytime TV slots (which would effectively put them on iPlayer but perhaps raise the viewing figures for the whole day with things that make people happy and/or more knowledgeable.
The government thinks it's expensive to an extent that most people don't. Which is a problem because the government are the ones doing the negotiating on our behalf.
He is Darrell Waltrip's brother. DW is the guy in the commentary booth who for reasons no-one can possibly understand just as the cars reach the green flag to start the race screams out "Boogity, Boogity, Boogity. Let's go racing"
He has been a top level driver for about 15 years
The race already has a huge grid but I guess in the USA if you want a TV audience you squeeze a Nascar driver in somewhere.
Didn't he do the Daytona 24 hours? So he should already have the appropriate licence
It's a bit rich really isn't it.... I pay the government that much tax every week and I'm pretty sure I don't get half as much for it :P
flatmates are playing fifa... so i'm sitting in the corner writing the daily. anyone got anything they would like me to plug?
They can justify the licence fee. If only 3 people watch anything they broadcast why not shut the thing down
That is insane!
All I have is a bit on Japan I did earlier but I can understand if it doesn't fit into the daily links
I want a paragraph on this http://twitpic.com/487ocg

:):):)
Lou,
Can you sneak in a plug for Fantasy Racers? We now have the 4th biggest private league with 48 entries and there have not been many in the past couple of days so time to poke people again.
http://sidepodcast.com/post/fantasy-racers-2011
I've heard of Darrell Waltrip before. Had no idea he had any relations, let alone that anyone would assume I'd know them...
Something to do with AF Corse having an extra car available for some reason.
He's won it twice. Sadly it's not so simple. Sportscars have four categories of licence - "Platinum", "Gold", "Silver" and "Bronze" - where "Bronze" is anyone with an international B licence who doesn't fit into the (tougher) other three categories. It was clear from the moment I looked up what Michael had done that he not only qualified but was overqualified for "Bronze". The question was which of the other three categories he was in - anything other than "Silver" would have affected the plausibility of one particular variant of the rumour because the GTE-Am category this year only allows one Platinum or Gold driver per line-up and he was supposedly sharing with a Gold-category driver.
I wonder if the FIA were consulted on the invention of this over-complicated licence structure?
on argyrotype processing? what do you wanna know?
will do!
certainly can! :)
wha?
Exactly - nonsensical
how are we gonna watch it then?
Yay for a Lou daily ♥
Justin TV at an early guess I suppose

crap.
Aye
In Nascar everyone seems to have relations. Every driver seems to have brothers or father or son or something that races too.
Who has a spare car at the start of a season? I guess their production people manage to knock out cars faster than they expected.
I think the ACO designed the licence structure and they have always been at least as bad as the FIA
How did you do that?
Apparently that comes from his crewchief.
sorry i forgot last week. felt really silly. trying to make it an epic daily today so starting early..
FBFB
hehe
okay. i'll try talk about it, will have to simplify some of the chemistry though cause i'm not sure i'll be able to do it justice.
i was hoping you were going for "latest daily ever".
Depending on the rumour, they've either got a spare F430 from last year for GTE-Am or they've somehow grabbed the last 458 off the production line before the race (in which case they'd put it in GTE-Pro, where thankfully nobody cares what metal your licence document is made from).
Incredible that a star can be so cold and that they can pick it up with an optical telescope
Awww... MacGyver...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Et_Nu5Rez_E
I didn't know that but it still leaves the question why?
tweet me if i do it again.. i was just so shattered i had an early night. and i completely forgot about what day it was.. and everything. By the time i'd realised Lukeh had written one. would happily have done it in the morning though!*
*thank you for covering Lukeh!!
Great :D
Another scare article on how badly McLaren are doing: http://adamcooperf1.com/2011/03/12/mclaren-bottom-of-2011-mileage-chart/
Says they did the least amount of kilometres (apart from HRT).
Put tomorrow's out with last week's date on it.
I stepped off my daily lifeguard perch and came to the rescue :)
Mclaren aren't allowed to be rubbish. they just aren't allowed to be.
Further proof that Sauber will rock the Championship.
Well, at least, rock it the third most. That doesn't really even make sense.
Just caught the 1984 CART Race of Michigan on You Tube. I know Michigan's a crazy track, but wow - when they crash there, they really crash.
They need a Rubens whilst still having a Jenson.
I think Red Bull and Ferrari have the edge on McLaren but it is way too early for people to be writing them off
It's easier to rock something when nobody expects you to, and everyone expects Ferrari and Red Bull to rock ;)
Is that not where Blundell did severe damage to himself?
No, that was Rio (also mental). In this one, Chip Ganassi, Phil Krueger and Pancho Carter all did either flips or had their cars ripped to bits in separate accidents. It truly is a scary race track - so, so fast
orange floaty?
Red!
I cant swim very well so i had to delve into the wordpress waters with armbands :(
Woo.
Anyways, the reminder tonight has made me join Fantasy Racers, the teams name is fairly obvious.
ooops!
*blush*
i looovvveee swimming!
me too but I'm a weak swimmer! I can swim though. Kind of. In a doggy paddle kind of way. Good fun though :)
YAY!
We only need 6 more people to get on the biggest leagues podium. We should do that tomorrow with luck.
If nobody else does by tomorrow night I'll add my other teams.
Still brilliant, still utterly mental
:)
Although if he goes in the summer I'll draw attention away from my team a bit.
I love that song so much. Best video ever :)
Great. It's just not proper fantasy racers if we don't have the biggest league.
i need help with a name.
You think he will leave
This qualifies too
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpqm-05R2Jk&feature=relmfu
:)
Longitudinal Inertia or do you want one you can pronounce?
ahh i used to swim for my local squad when i was younger. i miss swimming.
I'm thinking if Berbatov can last two seasons then so can he, but you never know...
ideally!
We should go swimming at some point soon :)
A Nonny Mouse Racing?
when i can afford it yes.
Mine is easier to say this year than whatever it was last year. barresistanchello wasn;t it?
something... more masculine?
I am hopeless with names.
Flame war racers just to wind up another F1 podcast
although there is something about public swimming pools i don't like.
Me too - and I went to swimming club this evening :)
Manly man F1 Manbeard of Brian Blessed Racing.
Sidepodswim?
people who pee in them?
#wishidwatchedgrownupstoo
See if the water goes blue...
#grownups
C This is a Proper Team?
Put Manflu in the name.
SEE!!
Your Team Name Here
:D
Y.E.S!
The Cool Spot!
right. not having seen Grownups i feel i've missed a joke. :)
In grown ups when they go swimming the water turns blue when nature is calling and that is how you can tell apparently. Its a very educational film :)
They also say it's an old mothers tale. I say it's absolutely true.
joined. thank you janna.
Glad to have helped :)
lou, did you see the cycling video mr f1 wolf found on twitter earlier? completely insane, might be good for the daily.
How do you join the Sidepodcast group, I don't see it in the list?!
sir roy, done blogged it: http://sidepodcast.com/post/fantasy-racers-2011
nope, link?
http://twitter.com/#!/F1Wolf/status/46569237359247360
Aaaaah that was DAYS ago!! :D I'm not sure when I got quite this busy :( I don't like it.
i had to use super-awesome search to find it :)
flatmates have moved onto playing Crash on their PS3. goood times!
Hello competitive lou ;)
I posted the link 10 minutes ago
no it's not crash team racing. just crash bandicoot.
oooh, awesome. what a game!
I got lost somewhere around weeing in the pool...
50 minutes...
#sidepodtime.
easily done.
...getting lost, not... never mind.
thank youu!!
Well stop doing it
How can it be that long?
That is a special kind of mental!
Well that's a nasty accident waiting to happen!
woaaahh!
Blooming 'ell.
according to wolf, he was the winner.
I love it. I love it. I love it. I want to do that!!
:D
woaah just mental. actually mental.
Just spotted a space auction. I had no idea they auctioned of some of these things
http://www.astronautscholarship.org/2011asemi_auction.py
ooh, lou. forgot we added the heartbeat thing today. only if you have daily space though.
http://sidepodcast.posterous.com/heartbeat-now-integrated-into-site-header
I see you have tarted it up a bit
hehehe consider it added.
more glitter to come :)
Oooh I like it.
Shininess is good
This is very high-tech for something say, a football shirt: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/tottenham-hotspur/8378252/Tottenham-Hotspurs-new-shirts-could-show-how-tired-players-are.html
That is interesting. I am surprised they can do that as thin as a football shirt
certainly getting there.

copy fail.
What kind of weird idea is Petter Solberg racing an Indycar?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89889
Saw that today. It could be epic!! Solberg for Vegas!!!!
:D
Do you ever just stop and think I ♥ the internet
we should do that more often.
Evening :)
I love lamp. I love lamp!
#anchorman
I just booked a cheap hotel in a city I've never been to before yet I know where it is, how much the parking costs, I have reviews from guests. It's awesome.
Yo Mr Pat
The best idea ever.
inside jake's bedroom: http://yfrog.com/h0zdzjjj
#freakystalker
The comedy night was a very good idea, enjoyed it lots.
Has he ever raced a single seater?
Shame Colin McRae isn't around any more. He really would be worth watching in that race
You've a camera in Jake's bedroom??
;)
you mean you don't?
Just helped my flatmate with his washing, sorting out which is dark, white, and colour.. bless him
#dailywillbelate :(
hehe :)
washing machines are evil.
No need for any of that sorting nonsense. Just chuck it all in together.
Is this his first washing since he started uni?
they really aren't that difficult. but it's the first time he's not had his girlfriend to help so i just sat on the floor in his room explaining why we separate them and things. :)
on his own yes. :)
stear clear of kitchens.
Ahhh
we have no washing machine in our kitchen. we have go downstairs to the communal washing facility.
#misslivinginahouse
Incredible
His girlfriend does his washing?? Honestly though, as long as you leave it on a cool wash, you can shove it all in together really....
I only did my first wash last month by myself ever, woop
his girlfriend has helped him loads of times, as have some of my other flatmates. but i'm 'mumma lou' so it's my turn to help and actually teach him so he can do it on his own in future :)
we don't have temperatures. We just have 'colour' 'white' 'delicates' 'full wash' i think... i only ever separate lights and colours but he is insistant that it must be done this way :)
She only used to do it with him. never for him. So he'd just do what she told him to.
How do these people cope with life? :)
Mum does it all #patheticexcuse
Ihaveonlyever used onesetting on my washing machine and have never separated clothes. In all the time I have done that I damaged one white shirt when it got some red dye on it.
i had to explain to him in the first few weeks how to make a bed properly. He's learning, and credit to him, he's the most tidy/ organised guy in the flat. So lovely!
And he can't separate white items from non-white items and set the machine to "whites" without assistance?
what happens when you move out tho?
he wanted to know what counted as darks and what counted as colours. you have to giggle really.
I used to sell washing machines and it makes you lose faith in humanity.
You need to have a word with his girlfriend too and teach her how to get him to do stuff himself
Time for sleep. night all.
night lukeh
Use colour or delicate. They willbe the lowest temps
ahh they're not together atm :( but credit to her she did... but she's a bit like me.. likes to do everything. :)
nighty night!
Urgh. This would be funny if it wasn't true. I had to have a little word to my niece about this sort of thing.
Night Lukeh
night
You mean doing laundry doesn't count as a date?
hahaa! :)
Knew that was coming ;)
Oh, when you put it that way.......
Awww Italy won at the rugby ♥
You're such a romantic.
I wore my Italy T shirt today. Coincidence?
That is a great result for them
Really?? Did the wrong France turn up?
:D
They're really not that bad anymore are they.... They're unlucky not to have beaten Ireland too really.
They are still getting after shocks in Japan. I have never seen anything like this number of quakes in one place. They stay on the map for a week. This map shows 297 quakes in the last week.
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Maps/10/140_40.php
That is always the problem with France. If the good France turns up they can be unbeatable but when the wrong one turns up it's like having 15 Jan Magnussens
Both good results were in Rome, seems they can't play well away from home.
Not too shabby against Wales either. Not so much the laughing stock anymore. I think they're leaving that to Scotland.
I just ranted on the Archive
i went into moderation, but in short, the move means no sidepodcast indycar coverage this year.
screw em.
Approved and up.
:)
Not going to find a Justin link like for Daytona?
I'm not sure they'll last a whole race though, is my worry.
Pretty much my reaction too but I might get 'em elsewhere.
maybe, but that's not coverage. i mean, no fbfb'ing really.
cheers
woah i knew being the only girl in the flat this weekend would be tricky but my have ended up helping to domesticate all 3 of the boys tonight. One with washing, making one wash up.. and the other clean. good times! :)
#promisei'llfinishthisdailysoon!
How do you end up in moderation? You'd think the spam bin would be able to tell when it was one of the blog leaders who'd posted (and therefore legitimate)...
Hi Lou,
Any chance of a last second link or is it way too late?
Secondly, you need to sort them boys out with the domestics!
:D
A persons first comment always goes into the mod section. Mr C should be able to post freely on my site from here on in
(I think that's how it works)
Maybe, maybe not. I was wearing my Force India/Fisico T-shirt, which has an Italian flag on the back.
Ah, OK.
on leigh's site. if i went into moderation here i would never speak to wordpress again.
If it's anything like the one at my house, you need a PhD to stop it from messing up. It broke trying to do 3 swimming costumes yesterday (OK, that may be because it ended up full of shampoo bubbles...)
That makes more sense...
:D
It does if that's how you've got it set in the options. I think I've got my personal blog set that way and the racing one not.
am currently listening to absolute 90's radio, drinking beer and loving it. first time in about 4 weeks when we don't have a packed schedule.
#relax
actually that should be for 80's radio.
A wonderfully hilarious one :D
their recent court case made me chuckle slightly. Apparently the vodka company got annoyed that they had the same name
I've got a glass of Argentinean Malbec (a nice red), a pack of steak McCoy's and not sure what to do now.
He's the kind of personality that US audiences would love though
I'm having my last relaxing day before the season starts properly. As far as I'm concerned, first practise at Sebring is the start of my year and I hope I've got enough relaxation in because last year my "season" as a supporter ended 5 days before Christmas!
oooh crisps... brb.
In that case, it's an even better idea. Since it's obvious that no outsider's going to win this thing, the best picks are the ones who are totally out of context and whose presence will be appreciated nonetheless.
go for it!
hehe i try. I teach them to cook every day.. i'm actually the mum ;)
He has that brilliantly hyperactive, happy personality that would go down very well on TV (as opposed to the internet)
My earlier rant I'm afraid.
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2011/03/13/has-nbccomcast-lost-the-plot/
Awwwwww....
:D
Leigh, you were a day ahead of Autosport on this..
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89899
though naturally they say 'as predicted by Autosport magazine' anyway
Hahaa yes!!!
:D
I hadn't clocked before, the 'Middle East' date is the (current) weekend of the Abu Dhabi GP.
Aye - I wish Superleague the best of luck with that.......
Everything from Sept onwards seems to fall on F1 dates but that one seems careless.
Great to see David Brabham and Marino Franchitti on Twitter now. :)
@BrabsRacer and @MFranchitti
Is there a giggles radio today?
i think it's every fortnight, and there was one last week.
okay, i missed last week's so didnt know. thought i'd check before i publish :)
Yes. Next show is next week
Well, it's different...
http://secure.brickyard.com/Resources/images/CreativeCampaign/img_trophy.jpg
hehehe
Morning, folks.
Leigh, posted a comment on your Indy article. :)
Cheers Journeyer,
It's on the site now - and a good question too.
:)
Time for bed
Night all
