Another double birthday today, as Giancarlo Fisichella celebrates alongside Narain Karthikeyan. Fisichella is also looking for a race seat in 2010, alongside his testing duties for Ferrari. Busy man! Meanwhile, here are some of the things we're talking about:
- Bernie has been talking again, with a couple of suggestions, including a bit of a tweak to the new points system, again. He doesn't think the change has made any difference at all, and wants still more of a gap. He's also proposed the idea of shortcuts on a racetrack to stir things up a bit. Odd.
- There's even more testing news, as Schumacher's GP2 fun was hampered by the weather yet again, Ferrari are going to give Valentino Rossi another test, and Virgin are preparing for the second test, skipping the first just like Red Bull.
- Meanwhile, I've been handing out homework assignments again, with a blog post request for the sentences on circuits. Essentially, your thoughts about each circuit on the calendar in some quick soundbites. You know you want to.
That'll do for now. It's the first day of Autosport International, when trade and media types head up to the NEC, so keep your eyes peeled for news and pictures, and I'll see you in the comments.
I'm playing with blog things. sshhh
so.. that's a nifty tool, importing from Blogger
I'm playing with Wordpress. The Google Calendar code won't work in a post, it vanishes..
bit above my level at the moment but ta. also, the comments suggest it isn't possible to embed it into a new page... which is disappointing
ahh, advantage google :(
Blogger doesn't even have pages to embed it into :-)
Me = Sleep.
Watch my twitter page tomorrow, am quite annoyed my phone is a pile of rubbish and can't support proper sidepodcomments! boooooo
not even mobile comments?
I'll have a look, but i think the cost is rather high. one day my mp3/phone will break and i'll get something that decent!
I want to know if they have wifi in the NEC, am guessing not
in the media bit, i believe so. and in the restaurant section for joe public. think it's paid wifi though.
I wanted to have the main blog with the little widget on the side just as now, and then add a separate page for the big calendar like I have in that blog post for people who don't use Google Calendar. But before that I was just trying to replicate that blog post in WP.
Blogger won't let you do the separate page and WP won't let you embed.. this is suddenly a lot harder than expected...
Am gonna head to bed. Have fun tomorrow, Jon..
more pingage: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/01/14/taking-a-cue-from-apple/
ah, productive. I have finally got my sunglasses permanently adjusted!
less fally offy. Before i had to year a headband with then to hold them in place :D
got ya :)
previously i would take them to a shop that would tighten the screws and they would fit for a month or so. But after specsavers did such a lovely job bending my new glasses i took my sunglasses there and had them bent too. Only problem is now they dont fit in their case properly. Stupid small head! :D
could specsavers have a go at that too?
its like the opposite of theme hospital and their head deflator!
Good evening sir!
Man, there's a serious run on hotel rooms in Montreal...just venting
Are race tix even on sale yet?
they go up to around $320 during the GP weekend, that's not the real issue. The issue is that the hotel right on Crescent St. (where all the street parties are) has only 1 double room left and it's on a smoking floor.
I put in my order, ticket holders from 2008 get priority
Cool, my wife said she signed up for some sort of thing that'll let her know when tix become available. It was sort of a xmas gift that hasn't come yet. :)
Ah, the F1 ticket gift. That's how I got to my first GPC, sat across from Kimi's garage. I think you'll see some movement after Jan 15
Hopefully it comes to fruition. I've been wanting to go to a race for a long time, but just haven't been able to make it happen yet.
GPC is the best weekend ever! I plan my whole year and vacation around that race
How's your weather out there? Heard its colder than usual?
Yes, had a cold snap for the ages. On Sunday morning prior to work forced myself get up and go running. It was about 30F. I also hate being on my lanai shivering while drinking beer
I know I should be careful what I wish for, but it's unusually warm here (Winnipeg). Wish it would snow, its my first winter owning a snowmobile and I can't use it.
you own a snowmobile? cooool!
That's funny, but don't worry, there's alot of winter left. I know Feb is "Coldest" for us.
alright boys, down for the count. talk to you later
On a positive note, at least its warm enough to do a little maintenance on it. The garage isn't heated.
there is that i guess. how come you decided to buy one?
Actually it was gifted from my wife's parents. So I can't really say its mine although I'm the one maintaining it.
so long as you get a go on it :)
Well I do have to make sure all the 'work' I put into it is safe for her to drive. ;)
where will you take it out of interest?
So far just testing it out on our property until it runs a little more reliably, then we'll possibly insure it and take out on the trail system out here.
i coulda done with one today :(
Morning. I'm alive. Too lazy to get up and go somewhere though :)
It sure would be fun out there with a sled that's for sure.
it's catching :)
oooh, hadn't considered that!
I'm confused! Surely it can't be getting up time, it's 5am right?
me? i woke up at 4:30pm yesterday. won't be tired for hours yet.
You are my hero!!!
hehe. we're snowed in, so i figured it was a good day to catch up on missing zzz's.
on another note, a specsavers just opened near my home. I may have to go just because it's there :-)
jeremy i would totally recommend it if you need anything bent :D
woo hoo finished work. Now off to buy batteries. Dont let anyone tell you my life isnt super glamorous!
Moring Sidepodfrozenpeeps :P
Morning all, i cannae comment in the Apple thread. boo
Oooh. Comment fail Sorry!
it all frozen up like it does when it broke, and said that it wouldnt send. havent had that in a while
they're doing something on a different server. looks like they pulled the wrong plug!
boo. this may well be a slow conversation then ;)
how are ye? how is everyone? i havent been up this early for a very long time
in the space of 24hrs, bernie has suggested shortcuts, single chassis teams and customer cars as possible solutions to f1's problems.
i want what he's taking.
Morning everyone :)
boo del potro has withdrawn from kooyong, does he not know I wanted to see him on Saturday?
morning mr Alex
So how are we all this morning? This morning I am mainly... quite tired.
same. slept very badly
Warm in Winnipeg and freezing in Florida?
That plus a hot day here probably means El Nino has well and truly kicked in. :-/
Hello everyone. :)
Katherine's still not very well. This involves a lot of coughing!
oh no :(
Same here. Red Bull gives you wings...
Poor you. is it because the house is drafty because of the broken window?
Wacky Races much? :D
Although Bernie's statement on just needing 10 teams kinda tells me either he wasn't in favor of Max asking for 3 new teams last year or (more probably) he knew some teams were dropping out and they might need replacements...
I don't think so. We've both been suffering from the same thing for most of December... And now much of January. Quite bored of it now.
So I know some of you liked the Andronov Temperature scale but were intrigued to see what idea Dave Gorman might have preferred. Well it was my idea for a completely new calendar: http://www.gamboling.co.uk/2010/01/andronov-calendar.html
Christine should like it. All the months have the same number of days in them :)
I am completely in favour of this and suggested something similar many years ago. You went a stage further with the days of the week though. I love the ideas that some days won't be called anything.
I like this idea. I was thinking that February 29 would be six months exactly after I started planning my Spa trip and six months before I would be in Spa. But there is no February 29. No half way mark exists :(
If Specsavers bent your glasses so they didn't fit in the case any more why didn't you get a case from them they would fit in?
I cannot put $680 sunglasses in a Specsavers case! The horror! :D
You spent that much on sunglasses that don't fit your head. I haven't spent that much on every pair of sunglasses I have ever had.
they fitted when I tried them on in the shop. Once I got out of the shop I realised they slipped down as I walked. They looked really good standing still though!
You need to put on glasses and shake your head in future. Oh and bend down and look at the floor.
I shall take this advice next time I buy some, but I am hoping this is many years in the future. I need to get my moneys worth out of my current pair :D
But they're prescription sunglasses, right?
How come they're so expensive then?
they're Louis Vuitton. I am sure we've had this discussion on here before :D
My wife bought some Armani ones and they weren't that much.
You have to drop.io a pic now!
Louis Vuitton? No wonder they cost so much
Do they have any special features?
It's the only way :)
They have a Louis Vuitton label ;)
Has Alison arrived yet? I'm a bit behind.
they look like this. just in a colour they don't sell anymore. and now featuring new improved more bended arms :D
I can get you a pair of those for $5 :P
ew, fake designer goods :D
Yes. Unsure if she has special features, will ask her when i get home :P
They look like they would suit you - half of it is finding the right shape that suits the face!
They rock! Got me some fake oakleys!
Yes, but to be fair, at least they are real fakes!
She was commenting at 5am according to Mr C's super filter. And she was not happy to discover that 5 o'clock was waking up time
Good morning Christine
How's it going? Is it Icy where you are (because here it thawed and then froze over again last night)?
Not so much. Was snowed in yesterday, seems to be warmer today.
you're telling me to get bent? :p
As I always say it's better to be snowed in, than snowed out.
This is true. Can't complain. :)
This morning I have a man coming to see about my roof. I feel all grown up.
Warm and bored is much better than cold and bored, after all!
Never realised you wore a wig ;)
What with this and talking about lagging pipes, you really are!
SuperLeague looks like it's worth watching next year, they have announced a 12-event calendar and an F1 test for the winner: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80856
I know. I'll have to redress this balance somehow.
Bourdais was in it last year.
It's a lot of kids and feeder series types, but there was some action in it, even if I am cynical of the concept of footy teams in Motorsport.
I think an F1 test might be a nice carrot to some to join the series though, especially now that A1GP has tanked...
That announcement thing this morning at 10am at ASI that we mentioned yesterday? Non other than DC is first on stage today...
Bourdais won some last year. It can't be that hard a series ;)
It probably isn't. But it sounds interesting this year...
Did we come to the conclusion yesterday that whatever it was, the announcement would be a disappointment?
I am already disappointed :(
I'm still optimistic that they might announce that in light of their shockingly bad subscription service that all those affected will receive a full refund, by DC in person.
Ah-ha. Then I fear you definitely will be disappointed :)
Perhaps they are announcing that DC will knock Seven Shades of S... out of the postal service? :D
I would happily renew my subscription to see that happen.
As an aside, do we actually think DC would be handy in a fight? Even before parenthood came calling, I couldn't actually envisage him duffing someone, could you?
I can very much imagine DC saying he's a lover not a fighter.
so if he's Michael, who is Paul?
Hmm, good question. Whoever it is needs to be wary of Mr C, obviously.
I never knew that in the states, you're not supposed to paint your car green as it is unlucky: http://oilpressure.wordpress.com/2010/01/11/the-dreaded-color-green/
(warning, eye-screwing design template...)
I always grew up with BRG so I don't see where this comes from...
There don't seem to be many green cars about, now you mention it. Or perhaps there are and I'm just not particularly observant.
That was one of the reasons Lptus were not well received at Indy in the 60s
The problem now is TV. Logos don't show up well on a green car. Jaguar went through quite a few different greens before they got one that worke.
Shame really. I kinda like the green cars!
Time for me to head of into the ice and snow. Catch you all later.
I just want wish you Good Luck, we're all counting on you... ;)
I can't believe there is still snow anywhere!
You'd think there wouldn't be much on Rockall, as it should just wash away.
Morning all. Has DC announced he's going to be fighting Eddie Jordan yet?
all ours melted Tuesday
"David Coulthard will be on stage at AUTOSPORT International shortly to make a major announcement from Castrol and AUTOSPORT.com"
Am not on tenterhooks.
I don't think so, but there's definitely a business plan in there somewhere.
ahh, Castrol must be Paul.
He's going to fight him in a petrol station? Interesting.
It better not be this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxckUnlxQ6M
It is. :-(
guess who's having the annoying background ads
You are gonna get so many nerds arguing about 'unfair comparisons' here.
What is it?
Red Bull will get a bajillion points for everything then ;)
Castrol will be ranking the world drivers in a giant ranking list, with the points being awarded for various different reasons
obviously he's never watched Zoolander.
I don't understand the obsession with ranking lists. Especially one updated every week. With drivers from all sorts of categories I don't care about.
To be the very best driver.... in the world.
I'm not sure what reason it actually gave.
Oh. Well, at least it wasn't a predictable announcement.
Q: Is car performance taken into account?
A: No. It is impossible to objectively calculate the exact performance of each car relative to the opposition.
I heart these rankings!
You can see it from an advertisers point of few. It'll generate discussion, complaints and nutjobs, which will drive up ad impressions and generate income.
but its definitive, so we can't disagree with it. :D
The chief complaint from my driver comparison posts has been that car performance has not been equalised. Yet nobody can offer a fool proof way of doing that!
ExogenesisLM (3 minutes ago)
Yep, that sums up my excitement for it quite well. Although rubens is 4th on it...
He's talking within a series... the question meant between series... they don't get it.
Anyone having a lot of issues commenting?
They've started already?
That is possible as MWM did it (you can normalise a fastest lap on a day with similar conditions I guess...)
Buttons number one. I already hate it.
It's done retrospectively for 2009...
I think Mr C said that THOSE hosts are messing about with some server or something. I pay attention, honest.
And so is Great Britain. Bring on the haters...
on 2009 figs?
Part of me thinks this should be a breakout thread, and part of me doesn't want to :)
BARROWM...oh, wait. *shakes fist at THOSE hosts instead*
they're ranking countries as well? lame.
a hoy hoy
Hello Kathi. How's your mum doing?
At least they have equalised the number of races and more important series are weighted more heavily, but the weighting is arbitrary and not published.
Just tried to make a prediction for this month's 'best performer' on the Castrol site and none of the drivers I selected could be found. 'Sorry, we couldn't find that driver in the Rankings'
I think that FAQ will be my lunchtime reading, best do some work, back later :-)
Don't know. I can't reach her or anyone else from my family. I think the funeral of my sister's father in law is this morning.
I'm just about to pay the first instalment for our luxurious mobile home. #spa #nothingtoseehere
btw, Brits on Pole do something quite similar (with only British drivers) on their site. it intrigued me to wonder what an all-driver version would look like. i guess this is it.
I'm wondering whether the leader will get a championship belt or something. ;)
and I'm buying a new mobile phone. Very
expensiveexciting day, today :)
thats way more exciting than my day, I bought batteries. What sort of phone are you getting?
Nothing special. A Nokia 1661 probably.
ahh, a good finnish phone. :D
Isn't it the law to buy a Nokia in Finland? :D
My computer (hopefully) arrives today. It's in the Odense postoffice and it's getting delivered to my wife's office...
I'm pretty sure it is. I think you might get arrested if you use a different brand in public.
I'm alright then - I'm a Nokia Boy myself :)
phew, it is safe me for to go to finland with my 6210
I'd rather have this one of course but it is slightly too expensive.
when clamshell phones were all the rage and I hated them I got laughed at by one of my friends for not having one. Now you get laughed at if you do. I wonder what the next step in touch screen phones, which I also hate, is.
I can't b e trusted with clamshell phones. Over the period of a year I managed to sit on two of them.
Whilst they were open.
www.nymbler.com for baby names. I tried Mercedes and Brock and got some interesting results
You need to accept that Zoe is never going to let you have Brock :D
The thing about touch screen phones, ones with on-screen keyboards anyway, is that it doesn't matter if you have big thumbs, and therefore Mr C has no excuse for not getting a phone.
DC has definitely sold Castol Thingy to me
You tend to think F1 is the pinnacle, but is it rallying? Is it sportscars? Is it some guy racing in Australian Formula 3? - I didn't know until last night that there is an Australian F3 championship!
an apple tablet which has an anti gravity device built in so you never have to actually hold or carry it. It will be all about digital comics as well as existing popular multimedia
I think its impossible for an F1 driver not to win because I bet its by far got the highest rating :D
I dunno, after this announcement I feel like I should be putting my support behind Some Guy. Mayve he has the potential to be as prolific as Woman.
Zoe won't come on here and say #amyfinity
I have a Nokia E71 now. Much better than my last phone.. which was also a Nokia.. :-)
didn't his cousin Fabien race in Aussie F3. What about Red Bull junior Daniel Ricciardello (??)
just wondering why so secretive about the rankings.. "team of expert analysts".. just tell us and be open..
stunned. what a utter crock of cack. stunned.
because they are absolutely full of themselves and pick who offers them the biggest bung. look at the STATE of that website.
I had a clamshell phone until last month and I loved it!
Neither did I and I lived down under!
Fabien is talking about Porsches in Aussie at the mo
Are you more concerned with the comparison method or something else?
half-tempted to do a neutral version
It seems a weird thing to do, because to me, rankings always means something. Like in tennis, the rankings actually determine things like where you are placed in a draw, or whether you're invited to the end of year thingy. In tennis, people actually care about rankings, but I can't see why anyone would for motorsport, drivers or otherwise.
stuff that. the whole thing is clearly a marketing excercise designed to let autosport claim they pick the best driver in the world.
it's stupid idea, designed to cause controversy and to put autosport in the headlines.
Type in some F1 driver names. Interesting!
But how can you not know about Some Guy! :P
money, branding, more money and the desire to be considered important.
I see. What would you think if someone like one of us did it though?
I must say, the secretive part is concerning...
It hasn't been going long
DC mentions in the statement about Some Guy from the series. I can only assume he's related to Woman with his non descriptive name ;)
I think if a blog did it and was open about it the method, didn't pimp it as 'we choose the best' but merely as 'this could be interesting', then that could be ok..
Ah. He's referring to the Asian Superstar driver called Sum Gai - who is clearly a star of the future but cannot get a budget to come to Europe!
its their use of the word definitive that bugged me.
that's just Autosport being Autosport though, that's what they do
I agree. Just present your view and say 'This looks interesting...'
I guess that means the logical next step for them is to make a deal with the RoC - they'll sponsor the event, in exchange for them inviting the top X drivers in the rankings. That way, this set of rankings has significance. Same goes for nation rankings and such.
depends if you claimed it was an "objective and expansive measurement of driving talent".
or rather "an opinion, based on variables that i consider important".
It's interesting that yesterday the guy was saying their wouldn't be much call for the things we were suggesting on Twitter. I wonder how much call there was for this.
I actually like that idea because in a knockout format they will always end up picking the wrong driver!
Probably the latter.
What bugs me here is that the performance of a driver is being used to define which series is the pinnacle of racing - how can a driver do that?
Probably in the X thousands - of GBP? ;)
Oh sweet muscular Jeesus. Have you seen the monstrosity that is the background to AUTOSPORT.com?
hehe. internally, loads. from me, none at all. this may call for breakout thread.
Are we sure that's even the case? It might easily be the other way round - how did Button end up #1 after all compared to Loeb or Johnson?
Oh, I guess I shouldn't point out that there's an article on how a certain M. Schumacher can become #1... ;)
yes. which why i said:
"look at the STATE of that website."
clearly Lou is one of their mysterious experts
Sorry. Didn't see it earlier and got lost in the actual system itself :(
:D Where's Heikki?
FTA: "You tend to think F1 is the pinnacle, but is it rallying? Is it sportscars? Is it some guy racing in Australian Formula 3? I didn't know until last night that there is an Australian F3 championship!"
Think FA Cup here - they assemble what, 24 of the best drivers according to their RANKINGS and then watch as the best get knocked out randomly!
So if that's true, the most probable way they rank this is based on a vote, I would think.
By the way, if the idea for the RANKINGS was to generate chatter for that WEBSITE, well, s'worked hasn't it?
It has for now, but will it continue?
That actually sounds quite entertaining - giant-slaying, if you will.
Pretty easy if F1 is heavily weighted.
If Loeb beat an F1 driver it wouldn't count for toffee in my book - he is by far the best driver in a poor field and therefore it is relatively not as good as being champion of a close series with at least 6 top drivers in it!
That's what I am implying - it would be fun to watch that SYSTEM get proved wrong!
This Castrol thing is going down well with the Autosport forumites: http://forums.autosport.com/index.php?showtopic=122104
I hope not - if they do it properly then it will look funny and nobody will like it. If Castrol drivers or another company top it, it will look biased. Finally if they have it so F1 dominates then everyone will complain it's unfair (think Hindy and how he thinks sportscars are better here for an example).
They cannot win!
And if say, like you did Gav, you asked people's opinions about the weightings and then blogged about the results and engaged with peoples thoughts on the matter.
That's what I plan to do in the end - I might use some different systems and compare. Interestingly, with all of your systems, the top and bottom were identical, but the midfield was really shuffled!
How is Mikko Hirvonen better than Hamilton? Pfft!
Denmark is 20th based on two drivers!
and Australia is pretty much second based on two :D
Actually, all countries are based on two drivers. Lame. That's too many assumptions for my liking
There is a book called The Enlightened Bracketologist which uses that theory to decide the best of everything: http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=1&ved=0CAgQFjAA&url=http://www.amazon.com/Enlightened-Bracketologist-Final-Four-Everything/dp/159691310X&rct=j&q=enlightened+bracketologist&ei=qgVPS4HMBKL80wTn45WoCg&usg=AFQjCNHNfQdew9GeUvtzEfmCFPTD2-XVSQ&sig2=cs9f0HXvUvWXCbwiD3oVMA
20th is very high for a country with only a few real top drivers.
NZ is tenth with Dixon and Van Der Drift! That's stupid!
It's a fair assumption to say the best knockout guy is the number 1. But you just know it won't be #1 in their RANKINGS :)
But just because Federer didn't win at the O2 at the end of last year, for example, doesn't mean the tennis seedings are wrong. The RoC tie-up is there just so that the RANKINGS have relevance - it won't necessarily prove it right or wrong.
He did have a better 2009 than Lewis, and ran Loeb very close to the title. This isn't an all-time ranking, it's a last-52-weeks (or something suchlike) ranking.
He ran Loeb close because of the points system. He's nowhere near as good!
By the way, I have my computer - I just have to wait 5 HOURS to play with it :(
i love that even autosport's youtube account is in uppercase:
I just don't get it. I did this stuff for fun and only for F1 in 2009 and I have been widely criticised for not comparing drivers fairly, not allowing for car performance and comparing categories that are irrelevant.
How can AUTOSPORT do this for 47 championships and then say that it is definitive? And how can they do this on a rolling 12 month period, when drivers are trained to peak at different times of the year?
This is going to be fun to see how bad it is!
the have a very big ego that needs massaging?
their industry is dying / dead, they're slipping into irrelevance (and probably the red), i argued earlier that their trade show is obsolete and their awards show serves only as a convenient end of year party.
they also have a forum and the have to keep feeding the trolls, or they'll go hungry.
reminds me of the ING race index. that was hilarious too.
Argh!! I'd forgotten.
Maybe you should set up a rival character cup style DEFINITIVE championship?
I thought this was an odd comment from Alonso
"Since Michael retired there was a lack of motivation on my part," said Alonso, who beat Schumacher to the 2005 and 2006 titles before the German retired.
Alonso was demotivated without Scumacher around? So it wasn't because of McLaren management, scandals with your boss and an underperforming team that may have demotivated him then? Riiiiiight.
"autosport, making the mediocre uppercase"
There'll be more character cup goodness soon, where real people get to vote.
Is that similar to what they used to talk about on "Inside Grand Prix"?
there's no way of making this even remotely fair. castrol do a similar thing for football, but in that case all the players kick the same size ball and play on the same shaped pitches.
Perhaps on an assigned Thursday Thoughts day (is today a Thursday?) we should all across all of our blogs launch our very own definitive list using our very own secret method for calculating all of the details?
Football is still not comparable because each league plays a slightly different style, some leagues are stronger than others and they all have different calendars. So it's also bunkum!
hehehe. i think rg has a topic in mind already.
but must me be accurate than trying to compare footballers to rugby players, which is how autosports things feels.
Probably far more sensible!
Thinks of RG-esque topics:
1) What do you think about Timo?
2) Why do you think Timo hasn't been allowed to win everything yet
3) Can you predict who is the next winner of a grand prix (Hint: It's Timo)
4) which is more awesome - Timo or Spurs?
Easiest Thursday Thoughts yet!
some pluggage, a very late end of year "best of":
and no, it isn't a definitive list and no-one's claiming there weren't better photos, or that we have the right to choose which photographers are awesome and declare them to be the bestest in the world... fact.
I've got this great system, right..
Is it secret yet definitive?
Ooh - are you going to put Timo in the Football team, Peter Crouch in the SuperLeague team, sum up the results, divide by the number of games, multiply by the number of blog posts RG writes about them and then subtract the amount of people who actually think that it's definitive? :D
i assumed he would write it in capitals?
Just waiting to see
oops, too early
Just waiting to see the Superbowl, it all hinges on that
Afternoon, I'm on lunch duty in a computer room, so this is me working, ok? ;)
Lewis Hamilton is better than Tiger Woods at ping pong
and both are pants at holding onto partners!
Only problem is that the doohickey and live comments doesn't work here. I'm stuck in the caveman era...
How can doohickey not work in a computer room?
Because they're school computers which are probably out of date?
Wouldn't happen at my mate's school, he's tech man there :-)
When I was at school (early '90's) we used BBC Micro's!
Same! Kids today don't know they're born.... ;-)
Any news from Jon?
Q. Can we talk a little bit about the weighting, and the clever scientific weighting behind the Castrol Rankings. How does that work?
DC: It is a very good question - and one I am not able to answer.
The point was I had an IBM 286 PC at home with a GUI and a mouse!
The secret bit is that the number is multiplied by the distance between DC's jawbones!
Also, in the thoughts of a family friendly website as this I won't quote it just in case, DC's answer concerning F1 2010 and Jenson vs Lewis worries me a little!
I'm not sure DC thought through the use of 'literally' in how he uses it there...!
School filter, I presume...
Never knew Jenson collected beach balls
McLaren do operate differently, don't they? :D
Jonathan Palmer on Gillett..
rg's thurdays thoughts:
"the f1 racing stand with f1 cars is as dissapointing as usual!"
RG, That is a classy blog theme sir!
More on the rankings.. There is a file on the site and on page 10 it gives the top ten ranked series as:
=1 NASCAR Sprint Cup
=3 Le Mans
6 NASCAR All-Star Race
I mean, IndyCar is 3rd???
Page 12 provides a list of all series included which is too long for here. I'm baffled at the inclusion of the Renault Megane Trophy
Do you think IndyCar is the 3rd best series? Better than the others below it?
Yes, I put it above GP2 and A1GP, absolutely. But this just demonstrates the problem - how do you agree how to weight it?
I think GP2 is too far down and IndyCar too far up myself.
Driver rankings? That is not a major announcement. That is a load of nonsense.
AN F1 CAR IS GOING TO BE IN iRACING!!!!
Blimey I've been left in charge of hanging laundry... Takes out notes: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Guide+to+Hanging+Laundry
Ooh, this may be the first time they've been put to the test.
A sneaky pillow case tried to sneak inside a duvet cover...
Eddie Izzard does a great sketch about doing the washing - he reckons coloured socks are spies that try and infiltrate the white load :D
Remind me again why they were written?
To help people hang laundry?
I figured that ;)
Was there a certain inspiring event is what I am really asking...
Mmm Venezuelan Chocolate is goooood :)
Hmm. I can't really remember, but I imagine someone was struggling to hang laundry.
Is Franck in the rankings, by the way?
it was me!
step 3) http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-396
That would make sense :)
A job well done.
I know they came about at the same time as the dictionary, because we realised you need the dictionary to understand the instructions.
He's 243rd in the Franckings: http://www.castroldriverrankings.com/profile/?driver=1978010500
OK now I am really confused - he does well at Le Mans, has a bad IndyCar race and drops loads of places?
This is an insane system!
Ah. Can't check right now, but this can only mean they are properly rubbish. Everyone knows Franck is in the top ten.
Can you check Drop.io?
He's well down the list - rather silly if you ask me!
probably because they extrapolated his starts to make them up to 20. i can't remember how many he really had, something 4 or 5 was it? so a duff result has a big effect
the thing i read earlier said if you click his name it shows a graph
He raced very well for Peugeot and had a duff IndyCar race at Infineon, right?
Ooh, thanks Gavin. What nonsense! :)
I was commenting on the graph originally.
How could Franck go from 20ish at the start of last year to 243rd by the end of it?
You're welcome ;)
And Giggles, it's in .gif format. Do you approve of the choice?
Because he did really well at Sebring, Spa and Le Mans for Pug and then had a duff race in IndyCar I think...
Click my first link and you can see it. It seems like a good year was tarnished with one bad race.
Those stats are more evil than the safety ratings in iRacing!
Here is the Franck Chart
At least Franck did better than McNish. He is 274th
that'll be the effect of series-weighting then
What?? That's crazy talk.
Kristensen is 56th???
Whisky. Tango. Foxtrot?
Nakajima is 48th!
Woman is 46th!
Sutil is 52nd!
I was playing Devil's Advocate but that's ridiculous
I officially declare these rankings nonsensical and stoopidness. Let us never speak of them again.
Agreed. Although I must blog this!!!
Absolutely. And if we do make that breakout thread, we can talk about them over there, but still... never again!
These guys are clueless. If you check their Le Mans 24 hours rankings they have swapped Franck into the winning car in place of Brabham.
He did force Seb into a couple of errors midseason, though...
See! See! They MUST be putting weights on the series...
Got this from a friend:
1. Go to search.cn.yahoo.com
2. Search for something harmless, like Shanghai or Beijing or Hong Kong.
3. Once the results come out, search for Falun Gong.
4. If you doubt, go back to search.cn.yahoo.com. Try refreshing the page.
Now nothing's working?
You've just been banned from the Great Firewall of China. Congratulations!
For a few minutes, at least.
How is that MFC?
But I've always wanted to search Yahoo in Chinese :(
You can do it again after a few minutes. It's not a permanent ban.
I can't take a few minutes!! :P
Remember the mess between China and Google? That's in part due to things like this.
Although, yeah, not exactly a news article. But still, it's sad that this is still happening in China, even now.
:D Reset your modem? Hehe.
That's not really MFC, though, is it?
For Google vs. China, I'd say it was more Internet.Backwards.Stubbornness.
Works for me now. You should get it back after 1-2 minutes. :)
Hehe. Well, yeah, I guess so.
IBS? Mm. Not as catchy as MFC.
I guess MFC has become the hashtag for all things tech, I am probably too late to try and change it now.
MFC isn't supposed to be catchy, it's a working title :)
I'm wet now, stupid rain.
Better that it's rain instead of snow, I suppose.
I preferred snow, at least I wasn't so wet then.
Noooo, we need more rain! The snow was lovely for like, a day, then it just got greedy. :)
Oh. Not as cold though?
I used the thermal underwear I got for Christmas. What cold? :)
Ooh, that's more information than we needed :)
Great. Say hello to the Chinese Hacker Spies!
I only wore the shirt!
IBS also stands for other stuff too...
Rain is awesome. It creates mud, therefore brilliant for keepers.
I am blogging about the unmentionable ranking system. I am writing at a pace similar to the JYS letter!
Do share the link when done! :D
My exam this morning was slightly harder than I thought it'd be...
What did you have?
Chemistry for Life.
Not just for Christmas?
Schumacher on the pace with GP2 car
That's good news. :D But even if he's quick enough, will the car follow suit?
Clearly not. That was just the AS module title. But it now seems we're doing all the spiritual elements, we did fire in Developing Fuels, now it looks like Air in Atmospheric Chemistry and water in Elements from the Sea!
Sorry this is long or if somebody already commented on it:
iRacing is going to model the '09 Williams' FW31 car into its sim for release later this year. For those of you who don't know iRacing, it's the probably the hardest of hard-core racing simulations, with laser-scanned tracks and (in my opinion) the best so far in driving physics. iRacing is unique (and expensive) in that every car and track is effectively licensed and you have to buy each car and track, but each car is also modeled with whoever made the car. F1 cars in hardcore sims aren't new, but realism has always been suspect, at least to me. iRacing will actually be camping out at Williams to develop this.
Anyways, hugely excited for this and I'll try to review it for Sidepodcast when it comes out. Silverstone is the only current F1 circuit modeled so it'll be interesting to see the list of tracks iRacing has in mind for the future, although I'm looking forward to Laguna Seca under 60 seconds...
I think Gavin mentioned it earlier and there were capital letters involved, so it must be very exciting! :)
That would be brilliant, Jim, keep us updated!
Hey Jim, add me as a mate on iRacing will ya? I'm in the Scandinavian club and I'm a class D as I only just started. About to give the Skip Barbers a go because I decided to take my time due to the cost of participating ;)
hah, on mobile so I couldn't scroll through fast enough. Here's to seeing the virtual incarnation of Dale Jr. in the FW31 car on an oval in Florida. Correction too: along with Silverstone, Indy infield GP (sob) layout I think is also modeled.
Zolder, Zandvoort, Brands and some American tracks like Laguna ( :( ) and Road America
Sure thing--I actually just started skipy myself. They sound like lawnmowers but they're fun and you'll learn a lot of car control.
Anyone know why Jon is using the wrong account to tweet from Autosport? He's there to promote his Feeder Series brand and he's using his personal a/c...
Yep, that was a pretty good one!
I was just looking at this this page and thinking, "something doesn't quite look right here, have they changed the font or something?"
Then I looked and I realised that I'd accidentally zoomed the page down to 80%
wow, headping :)
I had to talk to a roofer earlier. I've never heard one person use the word 'ere more often in a sentence!
I hear Lukeh has been giving Bernie bad ideas about Mario Kart updates to F1
I do that on Windows too
Yep, don't think Bernie realised it was a joke!
'ere you wanna get this 'ere tile replaced 'ere
I fear I may have been the catalyst in the final downfall of the sport ;)
Did ya practice before 'and?
What would Ari say?
I think we should go for the chase movie style. Now that there's no pitstops for fuel. How about the pit crew have to walk back and forth across the track carrying plate glass windows and crates of chickens. You get points if your pit crew manages to place something in the path of a rival?
Probably just nudge me to make a video or summat.
Will there be a jump over some crocodile infested waters, like a James Bond steeplechase?
So it's roofing as well as lagging now
Are you slowly replacing the house?
he turned middle-aged overnight.
Turns out owning a house isn't great... or 2010 isn't great... or both...
So far we've been broken in to, which broke a window, one of the outside pipes has frozen up, the snow on the roof has started seeping into the loft.
It's all go at Chateux Giggles!
I know I'm going to have to fix that...
Is your road being nobbled by out of work builders for revenue?
I almost fell asleep in both of my Maths lessons today, not so good.
Burning the candles at both ends? You're not as young as you used to be ;)
Quite possibly. Old age is rrrrrubbish. ;)
I saw Nick's tweet about heading to the airport.
Are they still talking to each other or is Alison still cleaning? :)
Mr C - avert your eyes
Peter Kay has released dates for a tour in March
Now that, is some forward planning
he doesn't tour does he? people tour to see him.
Dunno, he was doing one set of shows in Blackpool but demand was so huge, I think his accountant talked him into more down at the O2
So the best I can do is to tell you the story about this picture that has been on the drop since Tuesday...
Fourstar and I went to an awards dinner which we ineligible to win any awards at. This was fine... but then we saw everyone having their pictures taken in front of the sponsor board holding up their prizes and everything. It looked pretty good. We wanted a go, we asked several of the fuddy duddy winners of the awards to lend us their awards to no avail. So finally we borrowed a guy, Noel, seen in between us in the picture who worked for a winning bank. We told him that he could be our award. The official photographer then took the photo with my iphone. And there you have it!
If that wasn't enough. Later Fourstar and I were some of the only people out of the hundreds there to join in the conga line started by Kid Creole and the coconuts started a conga to Annie I'm not your daddy. The security didn't look particularly pleased when the line went through the bar area... Only about 6 of us joined in... And all the fuddy duddies looked on in horror. So maybe we've still got it... just.
You think the conga proves that you're not old? Not mention name dropping Kid Creole :)
It was the best I could do :)
It must be nearly double figures on the Andronov Scale outside
dancing conga in that situation only proves you're shameless, not that you're young ;-)
This is not new information, I'm surprised Alex didn't alter the sponsor's display with his blog address
getting out of the ice age? :-)
we had pretty bad days this week, but today we are back in the lovely 40ºA
Okay... In that case you leave me with no other option... Perhaps it is time to update my look:
Note: Jeans, Stripy red sleevless shirt and spiky hair...
Sidepodcast: Helping you watch Giggles go through his midlife crisis live since 2010 ;)
So that's what happened to Ferris Bueller!
Well, you now have something in common with Richard Hammond then. :)
That first picture is me doing an aside to the camera ;)
Ooh, there's going to be a round of the Red Bull Air Race at EuroSpeedway Lausitz! Could be interesting!
My hair is hardening!!!
Where's that then?
Welcome to the world of hair products Alex, gel is it, or mousse?
Just south of Berlin. Doesn't it hold a DTM race or something?
Somewhere between Dresden and... somewhere else, can't remember..
Yeah and is where Zanardi had his crash in CART
Franck ping: http://iheartfranck.com/2010/01/14/lies-and-statistics/
Ah yes, did think so. I recognise it from TOCA. Thank you, mind numbing video games!
I don't know it was something somebody young left here once. It felt kind of gel-ly and a bit moussey at the same time. It was hand pumped rather than sort of spray pumped
Maybe it's mutated over the decades :)
Here's my blog post on what I think of the Castrol Driver Rankings:
Please feel free to discuss it in the comments!
Katherine has arrived home and told me to wash my hair... The dream is over! ;)
I want to know what she actually said
The screenshots are a little difficult to read without clicking to a separate tab. Is that typical of the thin blog page format?
Yeah probably. They all open as a large size in a new tab/window though...
Another non-SPC ping: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/01/14/the-right-to-change-ones-mind/
She said, "Oh dear this is what happens when I leave you alone isn't it"...
Well, she does have a point
Ooh, new look too
first complaint. i can't make a complaint because i have be logged in to comment.
Bah. I fix.
Ah I logged in to comment that!
Your complaining about not being able to claim there, so are comlaining here instead :)
Should be fixed now.
Seems the Castrol Rankings are fairly divisive. I'll reserve judgement on it until I've seen it in practice. Gavin's raised a few good points though
i have gone from loving autosport last week, to be totally dejected about the future of the company.
was hoping the intended to announce an iphone/islate app or something that said "we have a plan to survive". this says they're looking at their shoes and pretending they don't face massive challenges this year.
Have Christine & Mr C seen The Italian Job ?
I ask as iTunes have both that AND the 2003 re-interpretation for £3.99
ooh, is the second one worth watching?
I actually really liked the new one (and of course the original is a classic of our times). The new one probably shouldn't have been called the Italian Job... But something about it made me smile.
I would probably subscribe to that
Someone needs to talk to Joe about it too, wonder if he'd be up for it
I should put it on the Aside wiki Q's page if the tablet is officially announced
That's a pretty strong comment!
I think it's a novel idea, but I need to see it in progress first.
What else do you feel's dragging them down sir? Admittedly I've not read it much over the last few months as most of my work travel's been car and not train based - but has it really got that bad?
Is ok, maybe not so much if you're a die-hard fan of Caine or the original
Good fun though
There's an easter egg of Spiderman in one of the scenes - where they blow up the riot van - he lands and jumps off the screen.
Drove me crazy between the cinema and dvd release as I thought I'd gone crazy.
it's designed to create headlines for autosport, to be copied and pasted by overworked website editors.
it isn't based in any form of fact. it's purely an exercise in marketing and isn't credible in any way shape or form.
A good honest fun hist movie. How we gonna do it? Well we come in here, go there do this, wallop. And then they do that.
My favourite thing about the whole movie is Don Cheedles hopeless British accent. And also the Shaun Fanning (Napster creator) cameo.
30 Days of Night is also in the cheap section, which is a pretty decent low budget horror-ish flick
It seems I've fallen into that category! ;)
But you raise a good point.
A lot more people know about the FTSE 100 than read the Financial Times. But at least the FT publish how their system works and there is, I suppose, some point to it.
It is a bit Mock Stock & 2 Smioking... isn't it ;)
Ooh, Star Trek is £3.49 to rent
That was excellent
Good people of Sidepodcast.
Hey Jon, where have you been ?
Alex, did you hear about the Flash demo for iPhone in development
Can someone tell me what the Autosport announcement was? i never found out
Yeah I did... Really useful for all those zero times I've wanted to run sucky horrible flash on my iphone ;)
Right chaps, I had best be off, have to go play Biggles.
Castrol Driver Rankings, I think
hold on a second... you were there?
he was there...
As in the pilot from the storybooks ;)
i know i know, i wasnt there until 11.30ish though and by then the Autosport stage was in full swing.
I think I've decided that if the predicted Mac Tablet is too expensive or too feature-lite, I'm probably going for Quad Core iMac 27"
Yes... But in what way are you to play him.
you think it might be another air?
Got to go teach some Explorer Scouts how to fly planes, if they'd just listen to me...
Flying lesson or just running around the garden with your arms out?
oh and mr c asked this morning, i am doing both days
Scouts for ages 14-18.
Dunno, I just have a nasty feeling it'll be great to look but with something that dissappoints until first or second revision
I have not... I believe... I am convinced that a) the first thing out of the box when Steve Jobs came back and he asked, "show me the cool stuff" was a tablet, b) they couldn't get it to fly with technology as it was so they made the revolution in UI design of the tablet into a phone, and c) this is the device they always intended.
Why should I know which folder my files are in? Why should I worry about installing software?
This is how it's going to be I think.
Normal scouts then?
it'll be expensive, but i've already worked out all the ways it'll change what we do. i need it. failure is not an option :)
I have to say... I will freely admit to being in love with the new way. I bought the first mac in years that I've owned because of the iPhone and it's disappointed me because it's not iPhone enough. I know this sounds mad.
I am mad enought to have owned each of the three generations of the iPhone though so I am NOT TO BE TRUSTED ;)
I have money aside.
A 13" Refurb MacBook Pro is going for under 700 at the moment in sporadic availability. I'd love a portable machine, it needs to be under £500 with no subscription tie-in
we have some money aside, if it's $1,000 it might be a problem. i am expecting to hand the itouch to christine very soon though.
Shameless self promotion time. Apologies.
I'm 5 people off of 200 followers on Twitter. Go on...make it a good night for me
do you count people who list you? i only list people these days, it seems a more valuable metric.
Alex, do you know The Herne next to Peckham Rye Green?
Quiz Night on Sunday, prize has rolled over to £1300 this week. Sunday
I've never really used a mac to be honest. Used to be a desktop and server engineer so Windows was effectively my life. Sad I know.
Don't work in that field any more so open to new things, if a mac was like the iphone it'd be great, but the last time I used one was in an Apple store and I couldn't get on with the OS.
And don't get me started on the lack of a right click!!!
Well yes. I wouldn't want to lose my iPhone either...
Personally I am really really really really hoping for a 3G data only package to be with it as an option. Because I don't want people to keep making devices that can't be used out and about. I wonder if they'll have learned their lesson and make it contract-less but you can slot a 3G sim in.
tis a myth chap.
but you're right. operating systems are so last decade.
Do you just have the one, I think I already follow
Blinking heck!!! Looks at calendar... I wonder if Katherine would be up for it.
hehe, i really don't want that. wifi is perfect for me.
Although my guess is that the quiz nerds will be in if the prize is that high
Should still get a table around 6:30, I'll be there with Cousin and a couple of others. They usually do Play Your Cards Right afterwards with giant playing cards. The whole pub is shouting "Higher, higher"
Bit of both really. I haven't paid too much attention to it as I blog mostly as a medium to voice my thoughts, with the internet saturated as it is with blogs and f1 news sites it's hard to do something that stands out - SPC is excellent in that it's very unique.
I've found Twitter a good medium to bounce ideas off of other bloggers and announce when there's an update on the site.
I did say I wanted it as an option. I really think they should go both ways.
OS Version 3.0 should be out this year
I felt a bit like Ann off of Little Britain using it. Very Eh..Eh. EEEhhhh!!!
I do, you do :)
I'm having finger based issues when linking - twitter.com/f1tailpipe
If they do, I might Qik Stream it
i would expect a lot of new f1 podcasts to start this year. am surprised it's taken this long.
in the end though, we follow blogs because of who writes and what they write, not because they update ever 15minutes or claim "exclusives". people matter.
I assume you've been doing the Thursday Thoughts...
And I'm off to do some Maths. Not a fan of this hanging around business.
I already follow you sorry!
what if you could tether your iphone via bluetooth? that would suit me, and wouldn't add a little sim hole or affect pricing much.
This just in, someone has made an announcement of a press conference in which they will announce something else. I was first!
Right I'm off for an evening of fun and frolics...
In fact it may well be a movie and a curry. Lets see if I can play my cards right!!!
See you later!
O2's 3G Network is already struggling
Sure... Have you seen the sim hole on the iPhone? It's pretty descrete.
Hopefully, we should know in a fortnight
Agreed. I try hard to inject my thoughts into posts to make them interesting.
I'm also aware I fail miserably at doing that at times. I made a decision a little while ago to move away from 'News' per-se. That's been done, and is done to death elsewhere. Part of the blog will always by nature, be like that though.
One of the more popular things I did was the fuel predictions once released. The stats showed it being linked too all over the world, and it peaked after the Brazilian GP IIRC at 980 views between qualli and the race. I'm sad to see refuelling go on that basis alone
Either way, I hope to be buying something Apple shaped in Feb
New Intel chips, iWork & iLife updates need to be announced too
Next Schuey Cheat Tactic should get lots of views with some very divisive comments ;)
When Bernie announced his shortcut idea I thought he was just chucking something out for the media to create a frenzy about. Then I thought who would benefit from such a thing. The same guy who benefitted from Ross Brawn finding him an empty bit of track where he could bang in 12 quali laps.
Worst Bit of my day: Having a great interview with Jonathan Palmer, and realising i'd only pushed the record button half way through. grrrr
i did it in teh first few interviews, my mic has a double record function, you push record onces and it checks the levels etc, and then you push it again to record.....kept forgetting the second one
It happens to the best. I remember reading a piece by Nigel Roebuck where he was talking about interviewing Jackie Stewart. It was one of his first big interviews and after an hour he discovered he had not pressed record. He asked JYS if they could start again but JYS was heading for the airport. He offered Roebuck the hance to do the whole interview again in the car on the way.
It's annoying, but all the interviews are really good quality, so im happy
How about a Lego steering wheel for your ipod Touch or iPhone driving games?
someone has waaay too much time on theirs hands.
How long before he upscales both the steering wheel and then the image to his 52" HD TV
http://bit.ly/5EAdKH - Pre-Season test post.
I love that.
Thought a few here might
JPancoast will too
Oooo.....I like this Mr C and Christine.
yay. have no idea what to do with it really, but thinking we should do the same for more lists and have them somewhere in the main site.
that's the main reason i love lists so much.
Alonso: "For sure the seven or eight days before the championship..."
He's already a real Ferrari driver... :-)
Ok, techie question now.
Who here's updated to Wordpress 2.9.1? I'm reluctant too at the moment given the grief the likes of F1Wolf went through with 2.9. Have they fixed the bugs?
I like that.
not us. shall wait until there's a security related requirement me thinks.
Software failure (well, it's user failure actually)...
I was writing something for work on LaTeX at home. Half-way through I wanted to check if it was going OK, and tried to compile it... wrong! you don't have latex installed on this computer!!
Sits down to wait for the 100+Mb of packages to download and install... :-(
Success! The computer is up and running...
Anyone know a good list of windows 7 tweaks?
- install your favourite linux distribution
(just kidding :D )
I think @LotusF1Team miust get some sort of award for the most amount of retweets. I'd tell them so but they'd only retweet it
Ooo, it's half 8 and I've had no dinner.
Best dash, laters SPC land
the official twitter account: http://twitter.com/OfficialLotusF1
no worries. we got from here:
4 tweets in their 1st month, hmmm!
make that 280Mb... :-(
Probably cos its just the off season?
they're the only quiet in the off-season then! :-)
what's a gppd iso program?
Nero? Depends if you wanna mount the iso file to a drive or whatever. I just uses WinRAR to extract the files from the iso.
I prefer Roxio to Nero
Well, I did when I was a PC user
it's weird - the DVD drive works fine but won't read the Office 2007 DVD. So I am making an ISO of it...
Is Office 2007 'W7' compatible?
Well the ISO worked fine ;)
I'm going to build up the tension ;)
Those who are up late, will be rewarded.
Up late is given by the definition of what?
mmmmmm..... good to be in GMT-3 ;-)
when i'm done :P
If I ask 'what for?', it'd probably be pointless then
haha. Feeder Series stuff. Lots of interviews and pictures and stuff!
Right. I'll see how it goes then :)
It'll still be up tomorrow (clearly) so you can sleep if you need too :P
big piccy pluggy: http://www.f1minute.com/2010/01/14/keeping-good-company/
and a replug of "best of" big piccy, should you have missed it earlier:
Also, if anyone wants to sign up to pose the Thursday Thoughts question: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Thursday+Thoughts
An amused wife has started blogging her husband's sleeptalking
Gems such as:
"Oompa loompas don't sing in heaven. They tidy up the clouds."
"Legs time! Everybody get your legs!"
"Don't... Don't put the noodles and the dumplings together in the boat. They'll fight! The noodles are bullies. Poor dumplings."
"I haven't put on weight. Your eyes are fat."
"My vision of hell is a lentil casserole."
"I've got a really terrible terrible feeling about this custard tart. Terrible."
"I can't control the kittens. Too many whiskers! Too many whiskers!"
Ooh, on Twitter too
[Not entirely linkable]
I was just going to say as a side note... Have you seen how the call outs look in the feed? It's a bit weird, at least it is in google reader... http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/callout-png
Alex, if you are still there
John Lewis sale still on with some great prices for big TV's
Free 5 year gurantee, I'm quite tempted by http://www.johnlewis.com/230574159/Product.aspx
hmm. intentional, to confuse anyone ripping the feed for content scraping purposes. will have a think, but all styles are deliberately broken in the rss feed at the moment.
Interesting thanks for the tip. Not sure if I'll have to buy through the insurers preferred seller though
i guess we could just pull the callouts from the feed completely.
Or Richer Sounds have a similar model for £649
I think they have a 10% of the price 5-year warranty
Ah okay. I haven't had a particular problem before, maybe I was tired. But this time it caught me both times and I thought, "hold on I've just read that" or "what score? eh?" Left me with a kind of "something odd's going on here feeling". But fine once I looked at the site.
probably easier as it goes.
I think I might still be sold on Panasonic though...
Right I wasn't really coming back... Sees you tomorrow!
This is a very good review site
Indeed. The which top 10 has 9 Panasonics and 1 sony in it.
Sure Ferrari will be his last team
Sounds familiar, is this the standard Ferrari line these days?
panasonic are very good. I'm extremely happy with my samsung plasma though. Have you kept up with CES announcements?
Jeremy have you got time for a quick Snop Leopard question?
A google search isn't helping
shoot. I'm on the train, I have signal for another 10 mins approx.
No worries, it's not urgent. Another time
no no no. I meant ask me. Fire it at me now!
quick pluggage, just started integrating the f1 calendar a little more:
information up-to-date as of today (we think).
Weird one though, this appears in Stacks but none of the identical files are in the folder
I googled it and a few foreign posts appeared with exactly the same file name
Item/File '4A696D4C' appears many, many times in my Stacks but not in the folder with Finder
Has BMW Sauber not been confirmed, or is it the name issue again?
With 'show hidden files' switched on, they are not visible either
name not confirmed.
although it must be too late now?
very strange. Restart and see if they are still there
run disk utility, select your hard disk and click verify button on bottom right corner somewhere. Wait a while.
If that comes up ok, then hit repair permissions and wait again. Let me know results. I'll try to check back for answers
Erm, they are still discussing points aren't they, so am guessing not?
Nice little page though.
Have restarted and verified permissions already
