Here we are at Wednesday, and supposedly the weathermen and women predict more snow. Weird though, because everything they've predicted so far has not happened, so I am not sure I'll believe them this time either. Anyway, here are some of the F1 things that are on our mind:
- Virgin Racing are having a reshuffle before they've even begun, with John Booth taking over as team principal from Alex Tai. I didn't realise this Tai fellow had taken over, but it doesn't matter now as he has handed the reigns back, saying he would rather move on to fresh projects.
- Schumacher got behind the wheel of the GP2 car today - we posted a couple of pictures on the drop. It was a bit damp out there in Jerez, though, and he only managed just over 50 laps before calling it a halt. Still, a couple more days to go, so we'll keep an eye on his progress.
- Red Bull have suggested they won't be at the first test of the season, which simply echoes what they did last year. The story features in today's F1 Minute, and it also got me thinking about testing in general - so I wrote up some of my thoughts about visiting one of the pre-season tests.
That will do for now, keep your eyes peeled for F1 news, and as ever, I'll see you in the comments.
Wednesday, then
Seems like it is.
New name for Virgin Racing.
Their car will be the Virgin-Marussia. Engine to be badged by Marussia sportscar company.
Grand Prix.com just had the story.
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns22026.html
Ooooh... Marussia. Interesting.
I have never heard of Marussia. Interesting choices all round. I wonder what the implications of this are.
Wow, where did that come from? We haven't had engine badging in F1 for ages. And true to the form of old, I've never heard of the badge...
and he also says they won't be at Valencia
Marussia is a sportscar company owned by Russian GT racer Nikolay Fomenko. Car is very ugly methinks.
Pic here: http://24cars.blogspot.com/2008/12/marussia-russian-electric-powered-hi.html
Wasn't the last time the Petronas badged Ferrari in the Sauber?
So it is an electric car. This looks like a classic Branson deal. I bet he ends up as the importer for them in several countries and uses them to get someo of his businesses into Russia. I wouldn't be surprised if he invests in Marussia like he did with the space program.
Ahh, thanks.
"The biggest obstacle in the path will be the use of batteries; the cold Russian climate will dramatically reduce the efficiency of batteries."
And he's sure this is a good idea?
I believe so yeah, just before the BMW buyout.
Eurgh can't sleep! Tempted to just stay up but I'm frightened I fall asleep at like 6am and then don't wake up and miss my flight!
Why don't you get Nick to give you a wake up call? He has to be awake hours before you.
Yeah he said he would :) I'm quite a heavy sleeper though.
Me too. My phone has 5 alarms on it and I set all of them.
Hehehe I could try that! A phone is only so loud though!
Mine starts very quietly and keeps getting louder for a full minute before it stops so you can't just ignore it as it gets annoying.
blimey, good find rethymnoracer. unexpected.
One of my alarm clock does that, and it is an annoying beep sound which turns to a louder beep-beep and then a loud beep-beep-beep. 5 or 10 mins before that I have the radio come on but it usually goes off within a few seconds.
I've just got some black-out blinds, not for light but because they are thermal. The problem is in the morning it is now very dark in the room and I have no sense of time.
Hot choc and some relaxing music.
Sounds a lot like people I know! I have set the loudest alarm I own and put it out of my reach :)
Evening everybody. Pictures should be on the drop soon.
Out of reach is a good idea. So is hiding it.
Good evening.
Evening. Not drunk at all...?

thanks. I'm probably set for bed given the time.
As am I. Night all.
Btw, I have a half-day. A man is coming to fix my TV aerial in the afternoon and my car is being looked at again..
well I never claimed that!
i am obsessively refreshing the scores at kooyong as the 4 who win today are the 4 i will see on saturday. So far del potro is leading which makes me happy. I really want to see him play!
camera is purchased! Its like a baby one of lous :D
I feel very jealous! Not sure why. I just know that if it was mine I'd love it, use it to photograph one trip out then lose interest and lose it.
now i have the dilemma of do i take my little camera to europe or the big one!
Good problem to have! I haven't owned a camera in about 5 years...
you blow my mind with your no camera and your no microwave! I thought in this digital camera age that everybody had one!
YES VERDASCO! Everyone I want to see I am seeing!
Maybe Redbull was intended to hide some new technical points on their 2010 car, until the rest were unable to follow them.
:D Who are the other 3?
Del Potro, Djokovic and Tsonga :D
Mmmm... Good choices all. Is Djokovic the highest-seeded man here?
indeed. Would have been Roger if he'd come along :(
But look! He is in Melbourne! So am I. Be right back, going stalking...
Morning Antipodeans and insomniacs ;)
Crisis over.... AWAKE!
morning Gavins and lurkers :D
get to the airport! go go go! (I have no idea what time you have to be there)
Hahaha not until 12.10 but it is on the opposite side of the country :) Lucky I live at the thin bit....
This is cute. Hahaha! :D
Good morning everyone. :)
There's more than one me? ;)
oop north?
Aye! I'm flying from Newcastle. I live over near the west coast. You basically just follow Hadrian's wall!
Cool. What time are you planning to leave?
I'm getting a taxi to the train station at 9. I best go have a shower now or my hair is never gonna get dry.
Question about Piquet:
If he is such an outcast that he feels he has to go stateside, why didn't he go to Indycars?
I guess he went to where the money was, which isn't in IndyCar right now.
But didn't daddy bankroll his racing?
Good point. I have nuthin.
Changing tack, has anyone watched the BBC series Electric Dreams?
F1 to indycars is a pretty big drop, at least Nascar can say they are in a similar league to f1 in terms of profile within their own market.
Also maybe he wants to be ricky bobby...
Good point.
:D Alison is rushing to prepare. She wants to get to the airport ASAP.
Where's she off to?
Morning :)
Morning everyone :)
:D
Sounds like a nice place :D
Afternoon squire!
Gosh I've been squired!
:P Hahaha!
Okayyyyy I'm going to pack my computer away now.... Byeeeeee!
See you on the other side, Alison. ;)
Byeeeeee!
*coughs* *looks manly*
*falls over laughing* :D
I hate snow :(
Why? What's up?
my Mum fell and broke her wrist
In the snow? That's awful. :( Hope it heals soon.
She slipped on the ice in front of my sister's house. She might need an operation. :(
Oh no! :( That's really awful. We can just hope for the best.
Must be wednesday!
Have fun Ali - have a great flight!
Oh no!
Ouch. Say Get Well soon from us...
She says "Thank you" :)
That's good!
Morning everyone :)
Ferrari are unveiling their car on the 28th! http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80828
Morning all.
I'm gonan go out on a limb and predict a red livery. ;)
Morning all.
Shame about Kathi's mum. Is that the same sister who fell of Kathi's bike?
Those applying for Uni such as Scott and Lou might want to see this by the way - the applications have been extended until the 22nd http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/8455241.stm
#amnothere
I don't want to worry you all, but I have some bad news that I've just seen in the supermarket... (there is an actual sign saying this...)
"Due to adverse weather conditions, there is an industry sliced bread shortage today."
aaaaaaaaah
hehehehehe
New name for Virgin Racing.
Their car will be the Virgin-Marussia. Engine to be badged by Marussia sportscar company.
Grand Prix.com just had the story.
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns22026.html {Comment #3}
It's a pretty name, though I have never heard of the company either. £1.5 million is good to have in the bank for both Virgin and Cosworth.
Missing the first Valencia test could be a small set-back, especially if Silverstone is still snow-bound, but there are advantages. It will be close to home so if anything is disastrously wrong on the car, new bits can be sent down from the home base. Also, Silverstone actually appears on the calender, so the data may come in particularly useful for seeing how the car reacts to cross-winds and so on.
I have found the thing that I NEED more than anything now: http://ardrone.parrot.com/parrot-ar-drone/en
hehehe!
#MFC
Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed AGAIN. They say it's only for Japan but that's because they haven't actually announced when we're getting it... http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/gran-turismo-5-delayed-again
Wooooooooah.
That's stupid! Whenever it snows there's always an unbelievable demand for bread anyways!
The Senior Designer at USF1 went to Loughborough
I was saying when I was doing the three camera angles live streaming test that I needed another hand if I was going to have another angle... Well this could be it!
the best bit, was that the sign was in front of full shelves of bread! aha
Who can remember what the greatest thing before sliced bread was? You would think if they could make and deliver the bread slicing should not be a major problem.
my Mum fell and broke her wrist {Comment #76}
Oh no! That's horrible - hope your Mum makes a good and swift recovery.
You need to invent one that can carry a tray of drinks
From experience, that sign is a supermarket disguise for 'Ah crap. Our bread delivery hasn't arrived.' ;)
exactly! there was another bit of the sign that said the bakery would help people.
silly supermarkets
I hope she gets better soon
That's stupid! Whenever it snows there's always an unbelievable demand for bread anyways! {Comment #96}
Presumably that's part of the reason why there's a shortage...
It is, but they should be better prepared for it when this second flurry of snow has been predicated all week
Most shortages are caused by panic buying.
The thing is non-sliced bread is much much better. So I would like to say that the best thing since sliced bread is unsliced bread. And my guess is that unsliced bread was the best thing before sliced bread.
So I think it goes
All of recorded history pre-sliced bread: Bread
Week sliced bread came out: Sliced Bread (Novelty value)
Since then: Bread
The thing I could never figure out was why sliced bread and not sliced bacon for example.
Interesting to see that Stefanano wants the USGP back...
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/01/13/ferrari-pushing-for-us-grand-prix/
Apparently Wonder Bread had a massive advertising campaign extolling their sliced bread. I actually saw a talk about it at one point. Because apparently everybody thought they had invented it. But actually somebody else did, it never caught on, and Wonderbread waited 30 years until the patent expired and then made a gigantic campaign which worked because it made people feel silly if they were still wasting their time cutting bread.
Aaaand the confusion begins. Jon Noble is saying..
Ignore the stories suggesting Virgin's Cosworth engines are about to be rebranded as 'Marussia'. The company is simply a team partner
So... they're not Marussia?
Ok...so I had to go to the Doctor's today, I've been on a repeat prescription, and because I've moved, I can't get another one until i'd seen the doctor...
So I go in, tell him what I wanted more of, I explained why i was put on them etc etc, but he gave me a funny look...
He then showed me that the medicine that i'm on has been red listed in this area....and he is banned from giving it to me...because...wait for it....it dosent work....
But i've been on it for ages, and it does...
So turns out that you can get it in Essex but not in High Wycombe. grrrr
It is by far their biggest market so I am not surprised. I wouldn't put it past Bernie to have pulled the US race because Ferrari were misbehaving.
ooh, disagreement between Joe and Jon? fight!
#nothere
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/8455571.stm
I'm sorry, but you can't not laugh a little bit. Glad he's ok.
Joe has updated his side of things - they will be called Virgin Marussia he says but not a rebranding of the engine
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/01/13/virgin-not-running-marussia-engines/
£1.5 million gets them title sponsorship?
And any remaining chance of me buying a PS3 before a new PC has gone down the drain...
Hi sat relaxing in departure lounge with ear sootheing drink ;) today i'm so so glad i decided to stay well away from london! Cancelled list is longer than the departure board!
excellent news. :D how many hours to the flight?
My sister did that with Lego :(
Boarding in 40 minutes. I can see my plane, it's HUGE!
How long is the flight?
It's about 7/8 hours. Then i lose 4 hours in the air as well. I've decided i like newcastle airport. Much nicer than manchester...
747? Or is it one of the HUGE new Airbuses?
Somehow I have managed never to use Newcastle airport. Being better than Manchester is not a great achievement though. It always felt grotty to me.
It's a giant airbus. I've never been on anything much bigger than a truck before...
But you've flown before, right?
Yeah. I've flown short haul on budget airlines :) i've never been out of europe before. Quite the adventure!
Make sure you enjoy it
Oooh! I see my bags going on. How exciting! Also realise for the first time ever I haven't been patted down...
Buy a bottle of water, it stops you getting too thirsty ;)
Hehehe. You and Nick seem to have come from different worlds sometimes. :)
Are they allowed to bring it onto the plane?
If you buy it in duty free it is usualy fine
Depends where you are. Most airports let you if you bought it after security
I find it more hassle to get on a bus or book a taxi in the uk than getting a flight....
It's because Nick's rrrrubbish and i'm too easily amused! I have water and munchables for flight.
Guys, I need some advice,
Last year we got taken out for dinner by a client and because I was sick I overdid it, made a little messs and ended up staying overnight at a friend's who works for said client.
The general consensus was that I was a bit silly but no damage was done. I have been teased by my colleagues and the client but generally it was just found to be funny. In no way would it have damaged any relations or deals etc...
Anyway, my question is, they have invited us again to the same restaurant.
Shall I go or not?
I don't see why not? They've invited you so what's the problem?
Because it will be brought up again.
Just don't over do it, should be fine.
I say go. Why not? Would be a bit more embarrassing if you didn't. If this goes fine, they'll have forgotten (more or less) what happened last time.
Just don't be sick. They'll bring it up once and then drop it
Don't worry about it. My sister always teases me about my birthday and the fact I may have given her a bit of a mess to tidy up the morning after the celebrations ;)
It happens. No point in letting it stop you going out with your colleagues.
Hello, hello.
Good afternoon Christine, how are you?
Hi Christine :)
Snow snow go away!
Pretty good, as it goes. Yourself?
Come again another day?
You weren't barred from the restaurant? It can't have been that bad then ;)
Not too bad, the snow has unleashed it's fury upon the surrounding area again.
Not sure if you know but Stefanano has been speaking about several things this morning too, wanting more testing, US grand prix, ideas for Formula 1, etc.
Definitely go but let somone else provide the entertainment
Good morning
I wasn't barred although I am bound to get a stink eye ;)
I forecast that you won't see any snow for a few days from tomorrow
Has he indeed?
Joe has a few posts from the Ferrari ski thing. Most of what Domenicali says is reasonably sensible apart from the fact that he wants everyone to run standard KERS which is just stupid.
Moved to new room very near plane. I see a Bassano like man poking at my plane!
I hope its not snowing too much!
They might need to put skis under the plane to help it get going!
Snow has stopped! Why am i last? I feel left out...
Fly Safe!
Don't worry. They have a seat for you
All sat down and sorted out. Bye bye snow x
Have fun
@Christine
Sent you another guest post.
Excellent, thank you :)
You won't think it is excellent when you try to find a photo
So there's an update to Logic Christine... Does this fix your bug?
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2565
Alison Update... the interwebs tell me she is taxiing for take off!
w00t! I'm sure you're excited. :D
Which one? ;)
I can't see 'em listed there, but you never know. I am not in charge of updating important software like that though!
She never told did tell me where she was going ;)
I was astounded by how many of those fixes started with, "stops Logic from quiting unexpectedly when" and "stops logic from not responding when".
Ha! :P
"Stops user bashing fists on keyboard when..."
I think it is worrying when the list of fixes is getting longer for every update, rather than shorter.
That blasted snow won't stop me from getting some yummy food :)
replace f word with the g word?
Good old g
Come on Mrs. Danish Teacher, I'm waiting for you so I can have my last lesson! :)
does this mean you are fluent now? :D
And it's her surname too? what a coincidence! ;)
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80835
Guess who's back, back again, Rossi's back, tell a friend.
He's never going to be in F1. He just keeps teasing me.
Far from it!
I am ok at it - but I had to stop because of the law of diminishing returns
Question for anyone who is hiding....
When will Nelson Piquet be allowed back into mainstream european/worldwide Motorsport (nascar dosent count), have been reading something on his site saying he'd like to win Le Mans, but when do you think all his stuff will be forgotten and he'll get to come back into proper motorsport?
Probably not long - I think it's just an excuse to cover the fact that he isn't very good!
I think he has a bit of the bourdais about him, rubbish in F1, but can be alright in other things given the chance
If he has sponsorship he will get a Le Mans drive. He is not going to get in an Audi or Peugeot but he should be able to get some kind of drive.
http://twitpic.com/xxivp
#sorryLou :(
Yeah. I think he'll get into a money-hungry team, but not a big one, but not this season, maybe next.
They're in a video of it too, visit www.feederseries.net ;) to see
I could see that too. A Kolles or an Oreca type team?
Was just thinking of Kolles, but i'm not sure they'd want him. Plus their driver line up is good if i remember, they just have to remember to buy Narain a step ladder.
I saw that from where I was sitting - silly man!
bless him.
and yet he was a very good GP 2 driver.
That team who did the whole race was EPIC. Four hours on, four hours off!
In his daddy's team with daddy's money though?
He's talented but undercooked. I don't think he's good enough to get another chance at F1 for sure?
yes and no, he had alot of money behind him, was easily number 1, and it was his dads team! he was good, but lew ham was definitely the class of the field
i'd like to see what he could do in a proper car, but if it was up to me id go for a younger driver
can i pull off a morning all, at 4:30pm?
you own sidepodtime.
so yes :D
Don't see why not
If anyone can, mr c can :P
I want your job.
you want to go to sleep at about 5am? and wake up at 4.30pm?
no chance! i ain't letting this one go for nothing. not even spc.
you are mr c, yes you can
evnin all
Hollar!
* that didnt sound as gangster as i thought it would, did it?
i went to bed around midnight, din't i?
oh really!? i am mightily impressed then!
not that anyone (as far as im aware) actually knows what he does..
Is 'genius' a qualified job?
Maybe he works in a top secret giant killer robot factory?
If all the former world champions are going to be in bahrain... That means kimi.
I wonder if he will be hanging around at red bull... it will start the silly season off very early!
I was comparing him to all the hopefuls who seem to be getting seats with no where near the same success. You are comparing him to the driver that has scored the most points over the last three seasons in F1.
Didn't he get into F1 because he was Flavio's boy?
Does it matter?
nope :)
He's been unlucky in F1, but i dont think he's amazing.
So? He was the class of the '06 season, he's who you compare people too
:P
i am bladerunner.
you may want to know what the job you want is before you want it :D
with these hours?
Exactly. Any time you feel like getting up at 5am for a 2 hour commute to work, just let me know and I'll be happy to swap :P
even with those hours yes
who promptly sacrificed him and let him down in every conceivable way. I am not saying PK is top but I reckon he is better than Grosjean, Tim and Kamui.
nb; my point is that it would have to be a job i'd like for me to do those hours. i wouldnt automatically do it because there was less hours
Aww John, when you finish Uni and get a 'proper job' you will realise why it doesn't ;)
im not going to do a job just because its less hours.
#grammertime? (#sorrynick)
My job seems to revolve around the theory... get to work between 9-12 leave somepoint after 4. stop working when your done!
Although this week some point after 4 has been after 7 most days :(
you wally!
exactly :)
The point is you are comparing to the best talent that has arrived in the last three years. I am saying in terms of driving there are less deserving drivers with seats. There are also more deserving drivers currently without seats (Nick and Sato come to mind).
really no, i want to enjoy my job, i'm not going to do something that i dont enjoy just because its less hours
The #sorryNick should be a clue as to the misspelling!
yes. you student ;)
i wasnt sure what your point was anyway
Rich, in all fairness he was the yardstick and in the same car. After our discussion the other day I can't see how you wouldn't compare them.
:P Nothing happened, i havent the foggyist what your on about:P
That you corrected and bolded your name ;)
indeed i did
Jon, save this comment and read it again in 10 years. We all think we can save the world when we are at Uni. The Cold truth is it helps you a little in getting a job but you still have to start from the bottom I am afraid...
Stupid touchpad sorry!
it does remind me of when i was younger. however, i loves my job and i know you would like it too. but you're still not having it.
Well, thats not really true in what I want to do, seeing as you have to have a degree to be a teacher, and so i need this to do a PGCE at the end, and if you think im nieve in thinking that i can change the world then you're wrong because i dont, and making me seem to be some nieve kid because i actually want to work for a living enjoying my job rather than just doing minimum hours, then i'm a nieve kid and i'll stay like that in my thinking.
Afternoon everyone.
I like my job too and to be honest it's worth all of the hassle in the end - but I am in a completely different place to where I thought of in lots of ways!
Not sure what you mean by yardstick. I am comparing him to other drivers with racing seats. Put him in the same car as Kamui and he would beat him more times than not. Look how badly Fisi did in the Ferrari? We only saw PK in a Renault where everything was favouring Alonso. There were times in 2008 that he matched Alonso (French GP?) - Grosjean simply loked so out of his depth it was nearly as embarrassing as Badoer. Tim's Abu Dhabi pit blunder was also fairly embarrassing.
Fair enough Jon, I don't think you are Naive at all - to be honest, it's more of a fault of the 'system', which leads you to believe you have to go to uni to succeed and that once you graduate, the world is your oyster.
If you feel that passionate then you will succeed for sure - you are certainly going to need it if you are going to be a teacher, sir!
he's had 3? races, so thats not a fair comparison. give Kamui a season and then compare them.
No.testing.
I think it's easier said than done, they do look incredibly similar.
You said it was unfair to compare Piquet to Hamilton in 2006? I say it's totally fair.
2. Brazil and Abu Dhabi. In a Sauber he'll just look better than he is.....
And after that brief cameo, off for some football.
Agreed. All those who are reading my recent blog posts can see quite clearly no replacement beat his predecessor in 2009...
I work long hours and I loves my job. I wouldn't be able to do my job with fewer hours so... I guess I love longer hours.
However if I could have a job that took up half a day I would still have to love it. If I get bored... I quit.
Who said anything about that?! I've never mensioned that. I don't think i have to go to uni to suceed, I have to if i want to be a teacher.
My point was that I don't want to just work small hours for a job that i dont enjoy, i'd rather work more hours and enjoy what i do. There's really nothing wrong or nieve about that.
exactly
I dont know if its news, but 5livef1 just said ant is going to be doing some commentry this year which is great news!
I want to work small hours and enjoy what i do.
Yes, I want the moon on a stick. ;)
I am saying it is unfair to compare PK in Renault F1 with Fat Flav sabotaging and undermining him to Lewis in a McLaren who has number 1 status. Lewis was significantly better than the rest in GP2, but PK was second best to Lewis. You cannot fill a grid with only GP2 champions!
*facepalm at spam*
I like Lady Admin as a name for a user :)
hehe. forum fans again.
and people wonder why we don't like forums.
Maybe Lady Snowcat got a new job?
:)
this is catching
Kamui had a good two first races in F1 in car that was rather competitive. Look at his overall racing history and it was no where near as impressive as PK.
hehe #epicspamfail!
It;s like a spam version of The Master!
I don't see a way 'admin' can fit my name, unless I go for Admin G.
I should probably add that it is unconfirmed before im proved wrong!
I just broke a glass... this is why i shouldnt be allowed to do cleaning unsupervised!
good stuff. surprised they haven't got an announcement ready for tomorrow's show.
Is there a 5live show or do you mean Autosport International?
It is, I think a first in F1, to drive into the wrong pit stop - I think that counts as slightly embarrassing.
New teams taking on pay drivers for both slots are basically little more than oxygen thieves - they will be thrashed and is actually making F1 into a two tier race. If they cannot afford one decent driver they should not be on the grid. I understand STR's reason and their is some validity there since they are/were the sister team.
Luckily most of them arent the traditional type of pay drivers, they are sponsored. if they are embarresing im sure the sponsors will look for a new prodigee
but a team that cannot afford even one driver with GP experience? It is not helping the new guys and they will be so far off the pace it will be a joke. It is doing the opposite it is setting them up to fail and wreaking their reputations.
Well think of them like bonus cars.
If we were stuck at 10 teams there wouldnt have been spaces for many new drivers, at least this way if a young guy can prove himself, get sponsored, then he at least has a chance
I agree that more-money-than-talent-drivers are annoying, you get that with all formulas, but i think lower teams add to F1, for that fleeting moment where they get that final point or that win (vettel-str) when they werent expected too
autosport.
and making it a two tier system. The new drivers need not just driver but mentorship - like Williams hiring Rubens.
my example is Tim, probably not a bad driver, but huge nationalist sponsorship and he really did not do well - we all knew it was not going to work. Should focus somewhere else and give a driver like Christian or Ant a chance. In the case of PK, if he were with say Bruno at Campos - he will have some experience to help the newcomer. Judging him entirely on his Renault F1 career is somewhat harsh.
hi ho boys and girls, hows things?
Am using 2 phones to browse interwebs Twitter and sidepodcast at the same time. not weird at all. no, definitely not. never.
Testing commenting on 2 phones at the same time.
or is that cheating?
Photoshop fail on my muse calendar - http://twitpic.com/xy016
*tuts*
Evening
Someone wasn't looking!
"If all the former world champions are going to be in bahrain... That means kimi.
I wonder if he will be hanging around at red bull... it will start the silly season off very early!"
This made me consider going to Bahrain but the flights are very expensive and if I was Kimi I just wouldn't bother turning up...
Why go to the very first GP after you've walked away?.. especially when they'll be tons of media stuff going on.... Yuck!!....
Of course... perhaps Mark Webber will something silly on his bike again...
"I like Lady Admin as a name for a user
Maybe Lady Snowcat got a new job?"
Hmmm....
Just a new hobby....
Have we mentioned this tweet from Autosport.com's web guru?
Wonder what the announcement might be?
'Autosport find caps lock button, finally turns off caps lock'
:-D
:D Ooh good spot!
:D

Why don't they just say, sometime in the next 100 years. There is a good chance it may be met.
Evnin all
Saw it this morning and laughed. Just ridiculous.
my hope was streaming content from the show.
failing that, i'll settle from some kind of f1 video show. maybe syndicated content from bernie.
I suspect they want to launch the ps3's 3d service with it.
Apparently they had a 3d version at CES
Suspence.
Because we all expect it to be delayed, and then when it is we go "oh no!" but actually expected it. When it comes out we'll want it a little bit more.
Or something like that.
There were 3D versions of lots and lots of games at CES mind you
they wouldnt announce streaming show content at the show, they'd have done it before.
i am quite intreguied now! i wont be there before 10 though. boo
We've waited like 5 years for it though.
Arent all GT games like that?
I remember waiting for GT4 to come out for ages
it's the first announcement, on the first day.
Do we know who is supposed to be on stage at that time?
yeah i know, but if you want the maximum amount of people to watch it (who are likely all going to be fans and people at home) then you'd tell peoplel about it before it? although i get your point. maybe. we'll just have to see
No-one is going to make a huge announcement on the first morning of a show before the majority of the people arrive. My guess is this is going to be something trivial
Best 3D Comment Ever: http://failbooking.com/2010/01/12/funny-facebook-2d-is-soo-2009/
it'll be website related. new homepage redesign in another possibility.
actually very likely, thinking about it.
i hope so. the current one is good, but could do with a sprucing up
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/picture_free.php/dir/2010jantest1/image/100027eve-2
hahaha. look at nando's hat
:D
GANGSTA!
Can Ferrari make normal hats?
true. another thought though. you wouldn't release a new website if your web guy is 200 miles up the road and snowed in...
also true. hmmm
it could be something like a driver blogging for them?
I'm not sure that would warrant an announcement. It'll be a massive anticlimax if it is :D
that would be cool. or maybe just an autosport blog.
i want something more dramatic though, integrated live timing or something.
McDonalds. So many calories. But OH so tasty.
Just a thought... just because the web guy mentioned it, doesn't mean it is to do with the website..
"Yes, it is web related. P.s. fraid no live streaming this year but we will have some videos if I brought all the right cables"
http://twitter.com/gcreighton/status/7719162193
Might be having the magazine available online?
ah :-)
That's a good shout actually. Remember during the postal strike they had the mag online - perhaps they are rolling that out weekly?
literally got that tweet as you posted though :)
that would be announcement worthy. i'd get up at 10am to hear that.
Could it be james allens blog going to autosport, he did write a feature a while back to wrap up the year?
from pressdog:
Justin and Julia Wilson have announced the birth of their second daughter, Jessica Lynne Wilson.
http://pressdog.typepad.com/dogblog/2010/01/its-a-girl-for-the-worlds-tallest-openwheeldriving-father-.html
Better bloody be that that they're announcing. As I'm still without last week's issue and Haymarket's subscription department should be used as a showcase in how not to provide customer service.
would the techy web guy care about that though?
vote with your wallet. cancel.
IT'S NOT THE MAGAZINE ONLINE.
NOES!!!
http://twitter.com/dank_ross/status/7719228117
do you mean this tweet?
http://twitter.com/gcreighton/status/7719443830
:P
It's gonna be a DC column then
Shoot. :( I'm more disapointed I got my predo wrong.
Looks like David Coulthard with a blog then.
or Kimi doing a rally column
He already has a column and they've put stuff of his online before?
Arf. Opps. Bum.
He isn't recently retired though?
And i wouldnt class him as "recently retired" as it was a year ago, but i dont know who else it could be
Kimi?
Could it be Ant?
Maybe they are rebranding as ANTSPORT :P
Badoer?
i don't see him turning up to birmingham.
fisi?
on an Autosport column? wouldnt have thought so.
if it's just a driver column, i shall be so dissapointed
And he's only on a sabbatical from F1.
we know he's on his way there this evening. you may be on to something.
but retired??
I thought Fisi, but he still hasn't fully retired tho has he?
I don't understand why they would announce a column at the show.
Who is opening the show tomorrow?
driver video blog?
http://twitter.com/RGrosjean
Is this actually RG?
Schumacher's coming back and was retired, perhaps Damon Hill is as well. As well as Keke Rosberg. And Heinz Harald Frentzen.
still dissapointed. it has to be something big to warrant an announcement like this, unless its just a stage time filler
hehe now im thinking a 24/7 web stream :P
Stirling Moss innit? Or is that Saturday for general public?
I wouldnt class any of them as recent ;)
No, thats someguy called Romain Grosjean, drove for Renault last year.
I dont think anyone "opens the show" for trade days, but i may be wrong
How about Alexander Wurz?
Maybe he's going to recreate his wonderful Canada podium celebrations from a few years back
shock as Fifth Gear copies Top Gear live show...
http://www.autosport-international.com/public/node/8227
Just checked, Moss on Saturday and McNish on Sunday. I guess the trade days don't have official openings.
Hasn't Fifth Gear been axed? Or did I imagine it/hope it?
do we know who all the named attendees are? has to be one of them.
I really don't pay attention to it :-)
Not sure. There are several names noted as doing the charity karting on Friday, I'd bet some of them will only go to that though.
http://www.autosport-international.com/public/node/7183
Not sure if its all of em.
Random thought... I wonder if Nick is taking Alison to the 24 Hours of Dubai...
I'm gonna say no
It runs from Friday to Saturday. I bet he tries.
Selfish thought... is there a published schedule of who is being interviewed on the main stage? I'm sure there wasn't when I last went but that was a while ago and I might have missed it. Surely they don't expect people to appear at random.
By the way, Jon what was that tweet about earlier?
There's one on a board by the stage
what tweet??
oh! that one
"@toomuchracing oooh! appologies!"
i retweeted sometihng you said, but took the bit you wrote out (as you had retweeted someone else) but it turns out a missed a bit you wrote in, and you said something like "the bracketed bit is mine" and that was my response....a few days late
ahh right :-)
Evening all!
Being back at Uni = little free time :( Haven't even had much time to keep up with any F1 news!
Hey Ms Lara, you are lucky there has been very little
That is lucky! I hate having to catch up on stuff. Did see the pics of Fernando at the Ferrari ski thing. This made me very happy :D
The best way to find out who is there when is to check the list on the cameras. AUTOSPORT's cameramen hav to be right up to date with developments where everything else can be a bit out.
No-one is going to believe that uni = hard work
Random question, but what hall is the show in?
ignore me. found it
To be honest it's been more the socialising type of busy ;)
hehe, not this time!
Tut tut! I'll be telling your folks and your sister... haha ;)
Oh yes, right you will! I have been studying hard too... :D
Good girl :D
Have you guys seen this Bernie story?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/jan/13/bernie-ecclestone-shortcuts-formula-one
Bernie wants to introduce "shortcuts" on tracks to spice up the show rallycross-style.
*Cries*
Makes it seem a bit like Mario Kart...
...I.......I'm speechless
First he wants medals, and now this.
Blimey, what next, mushrooms and bananas?
*Insert Mr C style "What?" here*
Don't forget the stars that make you go 'dee dee dee de-dee-de-de-de.' and so on. ;)
I want it to happen just to hear Legards suprise when someone use the shortcut.
it's a diversionary tactic.
what is he really trying to squeeze through?
Let not get Bernie ideas now so shhh
Well if he's trying to get himself in a mental asylum, he'd definitely helping the cause.
You think Bernie is using the Max tactic?
Looking to the right of the Guardian column, under Blue Sq. bets, apparantly Stoner and Rossi are faves for the F1 Drivers Championship
Bernie clearly took my show on Sidepodradio too seriously!
very much so. they taught each other.
i just don't see what he's really after. unless he's trying to worry silvestone that they'll need to factor in more circuit renovations or something?
Bernie is in playing mood again, I think he's ready for the season to start :-)
Strangely enough I had a discussion with someone I work with about just this, although rather than being a shortcut, we decided an alternative route of an equal length would allow a faster car to go round a corner at the speed it's capable of, rather than losing all the downforce following another.
FOTA are discussing changes to the circuits, but they are focussing the somewhat less provocative idea of tight corners at the beginning and end of long straights.
*goes back to lurking*
Oh god, I can only imagine Tilke's shortcuts.
Also, less lurking! ;)
Think you are absolutely right.
He said those things at the Wrooom media event in Italy.
Guess he enjoyed some apres-ski drinks.
Nooooooo, no lurking allowed :)
Here's what I'm hoping the Abu Dhabi shortcuts will look like
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/abu-png
:D
Doesn't that road go past Bahrain though...?
Looking good, I'd watch that.
Ha :-)
http://www.anf1blog.com/2010/01/13/video-schumacher-drives-gp2-car/
Mikey does GP2
Oh good god, imagine the stewards with shortcuts in F1.
We need more banking and fast, long curves...
hi people!
*ahem*
http://www.feederseries.net/?p=583#more-583
:D
#thenscrollupandread
well plug it then :-)
fair point. jon, ping more often!
There is an amazing new road that cuts from the old road from Dubai to Abu City across Yas Island past the circuit and across the Island and the next island arriving straight into the city... it had only been opened just before the race and was like a completely empty M25.....
ok ok..
so this is me plugging...
There's more content on my site since the other day...
GO READ
www.feederseries.net
sorted
what use it that?
"go read autosport every day cause there's bound be new content sometimes"
Its all about doing it subtly
That's not the first time that I've been tricked into visiting there!
:)
Ex-cellent.
I am happy to be tricked into visiting an awesome blog ;)
I knew and clicked anyway ;)
Almost didn't recognize the site without the capital letters. Ahum.
Jon, I found an error in your '5 Events' post, commented
It could have easily been my other one
He knows how to get into and stay in my good books
i always check what i'm being linked to before i click on it :P
hoorah!
Episode 6
5 Events That You Have to Attend in 2010
Back in Time, GP2 Series, 2008
GP2 Series; New Generation Car
now you've gone overboard. subtle works much better ;)
oooh thanks. not sure what happened there! ta
Looks like I'm going to have to self-style my hair on Saturday. This'll all end in tears...
Lemme open photoshop. I have an idea.
As I said before, if you gave me cake and I lived closer, I'd do it.... probably ;)
I'd happily give you cake. Mind you, you said you were terrible at this sort of thing and never to listen to you! ;)
Tom, if you run out of stylists on the day, here is my guide to being James May in a cheap alternative
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/jamesmay-jpg
Brilliant! That might work... :P
Haha, very true and glad to see you were listening to me! :D
Oh damn, that means I wasn't listening to you, sort of.
Hahaha.... took me awhile to get that!
I'm still coming to terms with it myself. It made sense when I said it.
I don't think you got it quite right but I think I know what you meant ;) Wait I think I'm confused now....
Wait, I think I have it! I remembered that you said not to listen to you, which meant I was listening to you. That proves I wasn't listening to you when you said not to listen to you. That's a paradox.
Brawn toaster and iron:
http://www.firewirestudios.co.uk/project_images/gp_toaster.html
Very funny!!!
try not to blow up the universe as consequence of some paradox, please... ;-)
Too late. ;)
Glad to see someone's brain is working! Very good :D
Damn, I wanted to get my PhD before the universe ended... well, I might need to change of career now...
I reckon it'd be quite easy to get a PhD in trying to understand the paradox, quite frankly.
SEAT have quit the WTCC: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80848
Ugly car anyway!
Not completly quit Gavin.
No more works Seats in the WTCC.
Nykear just signed to drive a private Leon TDI for Sunred.
Jon, save this comment and read it again in 10 years. We all think we can save the world when we are at Uni. The Cold truth is it helps you a little in getting a job but you still have to start from the bottom I am afraid... {Comment #251]
I've found the cold truth is that uni disqualified me from getting a job because among other things it required me to have a functional brain and some moral fibre, but the feedback I get indicates I may be in the minority...
That's as good as quitting for me - just like the BTCC has no manufacturers but private teams with tecgh support
I like Lady Admin as a name for a user :)
Maybe Lady Snowcat got a new job? {Comment #272}
Adminanora La Canta reporting...
It is, I think a first in F1, to drive into the wrong pit stop - I think that counts as slightly embarrassing. {Comment #283}
It's happened a few times in practise sessions before - Jean Alesi drove into the Prost garage the first practise session after he switched to Jordan in Hungary 2001 and Giancarlo Fisichella drove into the Renault garage the first practise session after switching to Jordan in Australia 2002 - but it's the first time I've heard of it happening in an actual race.
Nearly getting in another driver's way and then having the car stop halfway round the next lap (making people mistakenly believe for the next 10 minutes that he'd run out of fuel) didn't help either. It was a one-in-a-career mistake and it was certainly done in style!
I think it was the most exciting bit of that race!
Didn't Fisichella also almost miss his pitstop box in 08/09?
Hey guys, I need a safe haven for a short while.
Speaking of BTCC and Autosport earlier, here's an article about which BTCC drivers will be there this weekend.
http://www.touringcartimes.com/news.php?id=4316&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+TouringCarTimes+(TouringCarTimes)&utm_content=Google+Feedfetcher
"Stephen Jelley will be launching his ‘Scoop of Jelley’ sponsorship scheme whereby fans can put their own messages on his 2010 car."
heheheh
Have you deliberately affected the outcome of a sporting event?
The name itself is just brillaint.
Is he a Liverpool fan?
No, but I may have permanently driven someone to hate me.
Dear gods no, United till I die!
You can stay then ;)
I am going to hope you are talking about someone like Southend.
I'm a supporter of my local teams (everyone except Norwich), but no, sorry!
I don't like football, I can't see much point in it. I much prefer American Football, that's far more exciting!
I really don't care about Southend, I just hope it wasn't Manchester United.
Have you guys seen this Bernie story?
http://www.gua...shortcuts-formula-one
Bernie wants to introduce "shortcuts" on tracks to spice up the show rallycross-style. {Comment #404}
That sounds contrived even by Bernie's standards, so presumably this is just his sense of humour at play.
Oh no, doesn't sound good!
Quit hoping, it is. ;)
I'm putting my faith in the last 4 cans of Guinness, which are refridgerating until tomorrow evening. :)
Otherwise, Saira! PUB! :D
Estimations going down
I'm hoping it wasn't that high in the first place.
/me waits for the bad jokes brigade to arrive.
Well, there were some estimations at least :)
Ah alcohol heals all... well temporarily anyway ;)
pfft. Too stop-start for me!
It's not Liverpool at least!
I think it was the most exciting bit of that race! {Comment #478}
I thought that too. However, Jaime would probably have preferred it if it hadn't been...
Or Arsenal, or Chelsea, or West Ham.
That's what makes it good, you can actually follow what's happening and not lose track easily. Football's just all over the place, with not as much strategy as American Football.
The stop-start means I get bored. I much prefer rugby...
Never played Football Manager then?
(That joke may only have been understood by a few folks)
Hey, waddaya got against the Hammers? First football match I went to was a Norwich-West Ham pre-season friendly not long ago, Hammers won 2-1 and had the noisiest crowd! :D
Didn't Fisichella also almost miss his pitstop box in 08/09? {Comment #479}
Australia 2009, lap 20 - I'd have a hard time forgetting that one. Luckily Force India managed to sort out that one after a fashion - the Toro Rosso people could only watch Jaime's incident in dismay...
:D
Well, they are West Ham. Dirty, not the prettiest club. Oh and they apparantly don't like us Spurs.
Don't beat on the Hammers dude!
I sometimes like rugby. I tried to watch American Football and got confused but it was interesting to see the differences (and the referee mic system is brilliant)
Nobody likes you Spurs, what's ya point? :D
;)
If estimations could go into negatives, thats where ya are now..... ;)
I had high hopes for you, but when you revealed publicly you're a Spurs supporter, all hopes got dashed like Piquet's F1 career!
The mic on the Referee is a very good idea, it means everyone is aware of the penalties, whether at the game or watching on television. The whole system in the game is incredibly good, you know exactly what happened. For example, at the 2008 NFL International Series at Wembley, a member of the coaching staff asked a question on the penalty given during a commercial break, the Referee stepped in and explained the ruling to the whole crowd.
Obviously you haven't seen the awesomness of Spurs then?
Good night peeps
No Gavin, THIS is like Schumacher. Football fans. on and on and on
Night mate.
Night dude.
night
I'm off too. Had a great night now I've seen the Liverpool-Reading score! :D
Speak to you lot in the morning on the train, if you're about.
See ya later TM
hi and bye to everyone who came and went.
Is it my turn to do the Thursday Thoughts tomorrow?
cripes! i forgot. good man, yes please.
I nearly did as well. ;)
I'll do the post now, and set it to be published sometime tomorrow morning on the Northern Waffler (Oooh, look, there is a new post). And remind you all when I get home in the evening.
hehe. shall do ours tomorrow evening, so that's ace.
ooh, forgot the Ryder Cup was on. Is it Sky or BBC? Wonder how much it is to get in.
It will be Sky. The price I have no idea.
Ahh, Winter Olympics, can't wait!
The course is (just about) within a reasonable drive. I was annoyed at myself for missing The Open at Carnoustie when I lived just a few miles down the road in '05..
Then again I've never spectated at a golf event so I don't know if it is fun to do that or not
Right, question is done. I'm off for some shut eye. night all, lotsa love.
Clearly, I'm the only person ever to search Google for 'How to have hair like James May', it's not even suggested.
Hahaha, did you really do that?
Yes, yes I have.
Oh dear! Shouldn't you be more focused on your exam rather than worrying about getting your hair like James May....
Possibly, but it's absolutely crucial that I get the hair right, otherwise I'll just look like Tom!
so, it seems that i can't actually do a day without commenting here (#blamemrc).. just wanted to say this photograph does not make me happy.. not one bit :( it feels like he's stolen them.
I think Lukeh should have done a photoshop so it looked like team jenson again. :P
I hope you're all well. does anyone know if amy bought a camera in the end? and what make it was? i know she was discussing it the other day.
Good evening, and an excellent idea. Just so happens photoshop is already open! ;)
hi lou. why would you want to? we're lovely :)
also the more i look at that photo the more i notice the roof is not straight at the top of the photo.. #profectionist...
but the drain is. odd lens.
not when i'm freaking out about my exam i've not prepared enough for tomorrow. luckily it's not important for my university entrance.. and therefore my future.. so i only really have the pressure i'm putting on myself.
or bent roof.
ahh... SHOOO!
clearly they need their own professional photographer who is happy to take pics, make tea, would use twitter more and work with lovely people like bono and shov :P
Well, I hope you succeed but either way you know we want pics of your transformation! :D
Fine, fine, I'm sure there will be photos anyway, so shouldn't be a problem!
you meany ;)
i'm off to bed i think. just wanted to pass on my sadness at the loss of Mr Shov and Mr Bono ;)
night all! hope you all have a nice day tomorrow! think of me as i freeze and struggle in a cold exam hall with a difficult history paper!
night! xx
Exactly, you people with exams should be having a good nights sleep ;)
Good luck with your exam, I'm sure you'll be fine :) have this to make you feel a bit better ;) http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/thatsbetter-jpg
He's a lot happier!!
Night :)
woah!
I heart this alot. thank you :)
#turnsoffipod
pls tweet that to brawngp.
done!
Right, have established that I must hang upside down for a bit. Getting somewhere then...
Wait, no, that'll give me what I have now, only thicker.
yay :)
if ms lou is around yes i did buy a camera, tis a nikon L100 which all the camera review places rubbished for not being able to set things manually but thats what i like in a camera because I am so not a photographer :D
Have passed on the message :)
Right, time for bed, as people keep pointing out that I have an exam tomorrow.
SHOO!
And if I don't want to? :P
ummm....
we'll moderate you, now go sleeps ;)
Are you the first rebel shoe?!
Ah right, hadn't thought of that. You win this time, Mr. C...
Gooood everning Sidepodpeoples
I presume Lukeh did this?
next time mr. g.
No, that's an official brawn gp photo. For some reaosn they put a schumacher head on it earlier
Oops, mercedes gp. ;)
ah ok, so it was actually Button who tested hte GP2 car. thats nice of them
for the attention of Ms Kovaleinen:
"Is that the 15x optical zoom one? The one that works the same way as a point and shoout... only with a bigger lens?"
From lou. I just buy disposable ones, me.
she's commenting by proxy now?
tom didn't think of that...
If it were 30 years ago or so, I could be an excellent operator
to lou: yes
#nothere No need. ;)
grr
Time for sleep I think. No shooing me, I'm straight to sleep! Night all.
night.
