Sidepodcommunity (heart) Christine

As pointed out by Flibster in the comments, it's some kind of special day today. The rest of the world is busy declaring their feelings for one another, so we intend to join in the fun with some Sidepodlove.

Rather conveniently as it turns out, F1 is full of the stuff at the moment.

  • Button must have a bit of a crush on Senna today, as it looks like the Brazilian's sponsors have funded the Team Formerly Known as Honda for at least four races of the season. Whilst things are looking ever so slightly Super Aguri-esque on that front, four races are better than none.
  • Flavio must have a space in his heart for Alonso after the Spaniard finally managed to drag his R29 off the bottom of the testing timesheets. On the final day in Jerez, the team finished second out of the 2009 runners. Sadly, they've already announced they won't be in Barcelona next week - a sign of trouble or do they know something the others don't?
  • Unfortunately, not all relationships are rosy, as Adrian Newey seems to have fallen out of love with Formula 1. It looks like the man with the golden pencil wants to take a step back from the sport as he's finding the regulations a little too restrictive. Is this a cry for help to the FIA and Max?

There is one more slice of love to mention of course, and that is the love I hope the Sidepodcommunity shares for our illustrious leader Christine. Granted, I may have forgotten to buy the girl a present today (or bought a card, or booked a table, or contacted a florist) and yes this does constitute an abuse of powers. However, I've dug a nice big hole for myself, and right now would be a really convenient time to express your love for Christine and remind her just how very special she is.

If you were to do that for me I might love you too. See you in the comments.

Hmm, aye. Maybe replace 'sidepodcast' with 'Rosberg'. Still works.

Now you see, you buy a ready made meal. Which can be bought at any local supermarket of your preference. You stick it in a magical thing called a microwave, which heats things quickly whilst tasting just as good and requiring a twentieth of an effort.

You can carefully graft that into your own cooking, similar to Principle Skinner in The Simpsons when serving food to Chalmers, which he bought from Krusty Burger when trying to mask a fire.

  • SteveintheUK14/02/2009 at 00:43

    Button is Red

    Franck is Blue

    We know that she's married

    but Christine Love's you too

Happy Valentine's Day Christine, I'm really sorry that 'me' forgot to get you a Card, Roses, Chocolate's, Table at a restaurant, weekend at a spa, or any of the other traditional Valentines gift, but what do you expect from a man? We never remember these things unless told about them after our partners have already brought themselves a really expensive gift with our credit cards. But what you have to remember Christine is, how many husbands stay up till 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning coding websites for they lovely wives, not many? 'me' may not be great at something's, remembering presents, making cupcakes, but his heart will always be yours, even if a large part of yours does belong to Franck.

So every time you login to one of the SPC wedsites, remember there a gift from 'me' and give him a little hug of thanks from both yourself and all of us in the SidepodCommunity, for without either of you our F1 world would be a empty and lonely place to spend these long sessions.

Happy Valentines Day One and All

(Christine, the credit crad thing was a hint by the way)

    Other film highlights on tonight:

Batman *the Tim Burton version - not the slightly camp 1960's version*

    Back to the Future

    Saving Private Ryan

    Goldfinger

    The Matrix

    Goodfellas

    Taxi Driver

  • Bassano Clapper14/02/2009 at 01:27

Goodfellas is in my all time Top 20

    Such a marvelous film

  • me14/02/2009 at 01:29

    Other film highlights on tonight:

again, loving the romance in that list.

  • Flibster14/02/2009 at 01:29

Certainly is. Watched it only the other day for my Top 250 in 365 challenge, along with The Godfather Trilogy

It's almost embarassing how quickly I'm going through the list at the moment.

I said highlights... Romantic films are rarely good. :D

  • Flibster14/02/2009 at 01:37

Not even any good horror on. It's Valentines day - it's normally loaded with slush *for the couples* and horror *for the singles*

Very disapointing this year. I will probably have to go through the DVD wall to find a good horror film or 3 to watch.

  • Bassano Clapper14/02/2009 at 01:39

I'm saving Rec, The Orphanage & The Strangers for such occasions :D

  • Flibster14/02/2009 at 01:55

I think I'm going to go with a selection of classics. Probably from this lot.

The Birds, Gremlins, Hellraiser, The Omen, the original Friday the 13th *which I was going to watch tonight, but got into something else*, Evil Dead 2, Carrie, Nightmare on Elm Street, Dawn of the Dead, Psycho, The Exorcist, The Shining, Halloween *original version with the Shatner mask* and will probably finish with my favourite modern horror film - Scream.

  • me14/02/2009 at 01:55

    night guys and gals.

    The height of romance!

I once flew from London to Sydney for a 7 day trip to be with loved one (and was jet lagged till about day 4!)

When I was skint I drew flowers on the blackboard at home

It's not about cards, gifts or fancy restaurants - just a little thought

Anyway, this year it'll probably be spent in front of some HD movies :)

  • Bassano Clapper14/02/2009 at 02:01

    Me:

You could get off the hook by stating that you where planning to get her a 1/18th die cast of Super Aguri SA05/06 of a certain nameless French Driver, but there's nothing availible. You could event quote the "Grand Prix Legends" website to prove you case.

However, there is a 1/24th die cast of a certain driver's SA05 Super Aguri at Grand-Prix Miniatures Inc, 6807 St. Laurent Blvd, in "Centreville", Montreal, PQ, Canada. If you book your flight now, you can weasel that your way that Locally, (Montreal Time) it is still Feb. 13th.....

Hope you can speak Quebecor French...

    No, no, no, no.

    Yes, yes they were.

Surely a person like you who comes on every week to talk about F1 doesn't need advice to talk to girls?

  • Scott Woodwiss14/02/2009 at 09:31

Surely a person like you who comes on every week to talk about F1 doesn’t need advice to talk to girls?

I think that's the root of the problem. I'm on every week :P

  • Scott Woodwiss14/02/2009 at 09:33

  • RG14/02/2009 at 09:38

I think that’s the root of the problem. I’m on every week

    'I knew it, goodbye.'

Plus the fact that I don’t get out very much at the moment due to lack of monies. That and all my friends have the same problem and they’re also caught up with A levels and college.

Fair enough, so why did you buy the book then?

  • Lady Snowcat14/02/2009 at 11:09

    Hi Christine....

You certainly deserve the roses and treats that "me" has professed not to have provided.... perhaps he's bluffing...

    (He had better be...)

    Or....

Perhaps he's gone one better and your Valentine's present is....

    Franck....

That would make for a memorable day...

  • Scott Woodwiss14/02/2009 at 11:10

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth of your articles

and for the sidepodpannels where I was christened Giggles,

For the lack of Bernie and of Max.

And for building a system for getting live facts!

    I love thee freely, for the greatest podcast;

I love thee purely, for talking so fast,

I love thee with the passion of an F1 fan

For understanding community better than Bernie can.

I love thee with a love I seemed to lose

When Murry retired,—and through James I snoozed,

Smiles, tears, of all my life!—and, if Christine choose,

to call me on Skype, I won't refuse.

  • Alianora La Canta14/02/2009 at 11:42

Happy Valentine's Day, Christine and everyone else!

My sweetheart is a little annoyed at me right earilier today because she did not think it was a very smart more for me to place her gift on top of the alarm clock....

It got knocked over as someone tried to turn off the alarm clock this morning (ooops!)... Nothing got broken.

However, I’ve dug a nice big hole for myself, and right now would be a really convenient time to express your love for Christine and remind her just how very special she is.

Christine, I want you to look away right now. Go on, turn your back for a minute and put your earphones on. Just skip to the next blog comment.

ME: Want an easy out… suprise her with dinner. It is the ultimate guy get out of jail free card. Even if you screw up and burn the chicken or the noodles are still hard, she will think better of you. Just grab a few candles, a bottle of wine, a stuffed chicken and some rice and off you go.

You can thank me later. If a sidepodbaby results from this, you don’t even have to name it after me.

You may continue to read the blog from here Christine.

Personally, Dan, I think it would be highly possible that me would be able to to manage to sfart a grease fire in the water you are supposed to boil for noodles...burning down the building is never a good idea.

I'm surprised no one mentioned it. It doesn't MATTER if you burn the cooking. You TRY to cook her something, burn it horribly, then you order pizza.

She loves you forever and ever just for trying to make her something. Problem solved.

I did once suggest that I would create dinner single handed. When challenged about the actual using of only one hand I said that yes I could and I ordered a pizza. Worked like a charm!

You know, if there WERE news, we'd have known it by now. Truth is, they'd tell us at the earliest possible time. But while everything isn't sorted yet, they're not really in a position to say anything. And that leaves us with leaks, which may or may not be reliable.

Yeah I know, I wasn'ty really clear in what I meant there so sorry. I wish we actually had news rather than the leaks/rumours you mention, but it just seems everything we do hear just seems to have a deadline involved and then nothing gets heard about said deadline when it occurs, I can't remember hearing much after the apparent Jan 31st deadline they had now I'm thinking about it although I've been mega busy for the past 2 weeks it may have past me by.

Same. On my old computer, Photoshop always used to crash when I was in the middle of photoshopping cars.

  • Lukeh14/02/2009 at 19:56

If I may ask quickly, what version of photoshop are you using lou? I've always used Photoshop 7 and I can't say it's been anything but a delight with performance. Unless it's your laptop being evil to you again ;)

  • Dirty Scarab14/02/2009 at 19:59

    Happy V.D. everyone!

(Obviously I mean Venereal Diseases, not Valentine's Day - or is that the other way around?)

Sorry for lowering the tone! :/

Am using Photoshop 7. my laptop has been okay so far today (there i go jinxing things again) tbh i think it had something to do with the number of layers the piece has.... maybe 28 is enough?... ;)

Neither of us really are into Rom-Coms… especially on Valentine’s day. We were going to see Valkyrie but we saw the preview for this and immediately both said that we would prefer to see that instead

I don't suppose there is a lot of romance in Valkyrie although I hear Max shed a tear when Hitler survived.

I do that. I even do it in apps where you can't save anything and I get boxes popping up with odd messages in them. Eventually you lose enough stuff that you get paranoid about saving. Then you never lose much until your back up system dumps a whole years worth of stuff in one go.

ahh apologies. in that case in future you copy rather than move? it's not guaranteed, but there's a better chance your file will remain intact after a crash.

you can delete the original once the process has finished.

i think photoshop assigns some of the disk as a temporary location to store changes when the machine runs out of ram. i would imagine somewhere in the settings there's an option to assign scratch disks and one of yours is out of space?

    just guessing though.

  • lou14/02/2009 at 22:30

    a) what's your blogging tool?

    b) can you "save as.." or "export?

    c) can you publish online as a draft, which no-one can see except you?

  • me14/02/2009 at 22:31

have a poke around preferences / settings and see if one is assigned.

    a) It was Live Writer before it decided to go walkies and now I can't reinstall it as it says I still have it even though I'm sure I don't. So I just use the standard Blogger one.

    b) yes I can. But personally, I tend to forget to save. Bad habit of mine. Hence why I think autosave is the saviour of earth.

    c) No, I can preview it but not publish it without closing the entire site.

are you sure the ram is causing issues? it could be you're flat out of disk space, leaving you with zero swap space.

  • Jeremy14/02/2009 at 22:51

We've just had some of the worst bushfires ever in Australia (in Victoria) due to the extreme Summer heat that we waited months for.

I plan a lovely romantic dinner for Zoe and I in a place called Panorama House which looks out, from the top of an escarpment, over the ocean.

It rains. The fog rolls in. We laugh and enjoy ourselves anyway.

i've no idea what that means, but i think it's something to do with the make of my laptop... i've done some research and it seems that lots of different people have had the same problem. i'm never buying an acer again.

I'm not sure what's available for Windows, but have you tried any programs that test your RAM?

ALWAYS make two or more backups - burn to DVD, send to USB Flash Drive, External Hard Drive, Internet etc

Did your machine come with restore disks or just a recovery partition? Make restore disks now if you have that option.

The refurb store is a good alternative and are tested more heavily than a new machine. Is probably more accurate to say well spec'd than expensive as you get what you pay for. Apple don't make, low-end "cheap" machines but you will not need to upgrade nearly as often as a windows based machine

I don't have a significant other (and don't want one, so don't feel sorry for me). My parents decided to have a Chinese takeaway from the excellent Chinese-cum-fish-and-chip-shop in the next village. So I stayed in and enjoyed it with them. Let me tell you, the combination of wandering dragon (or wandering saltpot as Dad nicknamed it) and lemonade is unforgettably good. The cheesecake that followed was really nice as well.

I had Chinese tonight too and it was most excellent, we picked up the delivery from the restaurant and it was a Valentine cheese-fest in there. Red hearts everywhere, each table with a red "I Love You" baloon on a stick (?)

Still, it was rammed and the food was superb. They'll never make interior designers though :D

No "you'll do for now" cards then?

I had Chinese tonight too and it was most excellent, we picked up the delivery from the restaurant and it was a Valentine cheese-fest in there. Red hearts everywhere, each table with a red “I Love You” baloon on a stick (?)

    Still, it was rammed and the food was superb. They’ll never make interior designers though {Comment #308}

The takeaway we used didn't have any space for special decor. It only just had room for the queue, much to my chagrin (despite ordering two hours ahead, I still had to stand for 20 minutes). Still, the food was worth it.

Here's something I want to share. For the younger folks, this might be the first time you'll see this. For the grizzly veterans (like Steven Roy), this will be a video of reminiscing. ;)

Oi! Apart from the unflattering description it is only about wo months ago since that vid was last linked here when we were looking for music with a racing theme.

It's not unflattering... is it? :D

On a serious note, I may have missed that link. Or, more probably, I forgot. Sorry about that. Still, maybe the others haven't seen it? :)

It's always worth linking things like that because someone is bound to have missed it.

Up already? Or should I be asking 'Still up'?

  • Steven Roy15/02/2009 at 05:09

I think someone is going to have to clear a lot of server space for some of my articles. The latest one is 1500 words and the guy has just completed his second race. My aim is to keep it below 4000 words now but they are just so many things that have to be said. Maybe I should just write a book.

there's no worries from our point of view, but feel free to split into a number of parts if it looks to be a lot to digest.

The Gilles Villeneuve piece for this week is 4500 word but it just flows from unbelievable event to unbelievable event and when I posted it before I expected a lot of negative comments about the length. It was originally meant to be 500 to 1000 words and I mentioned that had I not started chopping stuff out it could have been 10-20k words and I got several requests for the long version.

The new piece is about a driver almost no-one hear will hav heard of and his story in many ways is more eventful than Villeneuve's so I am sure it will be an easy read and won't be a chore to digest. As with Villeneuve it is trying to find the bits I can skip that is the problem.

I must learn to proof read instead of typing faster than I am capable of thinking and then hitting post comment.

I am going to grab some sleep now. Don't stay up too late or you won't be awake to make Christine's breakfast.
