Another week is beginning, then, and we are here at Monday. As I have been paying very little attention to Formula 1 over the weekend, I think it's time to take a glance around the blog world and see what everyone has been writing about. Let's take a look:
- Firstly, it's over to Pitlane Fanatic, where they already do a regular weekend run through blogs you need to be keeping an eye on. The talk of Schumacher's return is a popular one, with Journeyer writing up a guest post here on Sidepodcast, and also some thoughts from Adie over at F1 Tailpipe.
- Much to my despair, F1 Wolf has begun his countdown to the season, posting a news round up every ten days. We are onto 90 days now, and I can't believe the off-season is going so quickly. Another popular topic of the week was the points scoring system change, and Lukeh also had some interesting thoughts about that over on Gridwalk Talk.
- Dank has written up the first part of a countdown - his top 20 drivers for 2009, from all walks of motorsport life. There are a few F1 names on there, and equally plenty of names I haven't heard of, so a good opportunity to learn a thing or two. Will be interesting to see who is his number one driver when it is posted.
That'll do it for now, I hope you all had a good weekend, and are prepared for the week ahead. Let us know what you've got planned, and don't forget Must Comment Monday. I'll see you in the comments.
It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a life.
And I'm feeling good
61 Days until the olympics!
yeeyy
Now comes the hard part - getting all the Gala songs from that playlist. Given how many they used, it'll be much easier said than done...
i may have found someone who wants to come to the backstreet boys with me. Yay!
Good for you! :D
i didnt bother to ask this girl as she is into quite heavy metal stuff but it seems every girl in their mid 20s has a secret 12 year old inside
I just wish they wouldn't let them out so often :P
lord my bodyclock is a bit confused.
i know the feeling
no idea what you two are talking about
i have learned that 2 hours sleep actually speeds up time! I have 58 minutes of work left in what can only be described as the quickest 8 hour shift of my life.
wow. earliest breakout thread ever coming up!
haha! or latest, depending on your body clock. :P
http://sidepodcast.com/2009/12/14/trulli-and-kovalainen-to-drive-for-lotus-f1/
Gosh Mr C... Bit late/early for you?
early. have ruined my bodyclock.
Oh dear. And there I was thinking you'd be the one person who was okay because the party essentially happened during your normal day!
wasn't the party's fault. last week i managed only 4(ish) hours sleep each day, so when i crashed on sunday, with the aid of beer i crashed big :)
Ah!
For Journeyer and Steven I have a business opportunity for you: F1 Historical Consultants plc. Here's the blurb:
Are you a new formula 1 team that's borrowing the heritage of another? Or are you a team that's been going so long that your history seems a bit too historic? Do you find creating press releases a daunting task? Would you like to include facts in them rather than idle speculation? Do you find yourself thinking, 'he must be the first British driver to have won a race, right?' then we have the answer for you!
F1 Historical Consultants will ensure your press releases have the historical accuracy they deserve. And in our extended Giant Memory Module package we can provide you with 20 extensively researched and historically accurate F1 facts a day.
:D :D :D
Morning!
morning.
they have to now when ESPN F1 (aka F1 Live) does not seem to need their 10 facts a day any more :-)
Morning!
Morning all.
Hope the sidepodparty was a blast!
Press releases that mis-spell names make my head spin. You can forgive a team proprietor having a bit of finger slippage on Twitter, but the Jim Clarke thing is a major no-no.
So much for honouring the history and traditions of the LowToes name innit?
Especially if you are trying to make a point of how you are respecting the heritage!
or the finnish.
I know it comes under the twitter thing, but gah!
tony fernando rulez :)
That's their fault for having silly names. When are you changing yours to Aaami Fultonaininen?
:D
ooh I like. Tomorrow!
I know we've done press releases before for Friday Fun... But perhaps we could do "things you shouldn't do in your press release?"
i like it!
+1!
Does anyone know is there a wiki page for suggestions? Or do I just leave it here and add Christine's name and hope for the best? ;)
super-freaking-fast-search™ says "no".
but she should be around soon.
I like this name
I did the same kind of search before posting my comment. This is a super-freaking-double-blind-search
GRRR The train company has changed all of the train times and completely screwed me over. Merry Effing Xmas DSB! :(
I should get my C++ thingy assignment back this afternoon. I am kinda terrified of getting it back knowing the struggles I have with the language but I can only hope for the best!
™
Friday Fun noted.
Morning all.
*waves*
Morning Christine
Weird.
Morning :)
He is quite weird yes ;)
i'm still here.
Mr C, you must learn the difference between principle and principal. Quite important for a sport like this.
Oooops ;)
what did i say? i checked in the breakout?
I fixed it.
but....... i checked :(
Tis okay. English is complicated.
But if you will go around posting breakout threads at stupid o'clock, you're on your own ;)
i liked it when all the teams were base din the uk :(
My guess is it's easier to fix that word than move all the comments though :)
Ooh, that's true. We all have our strengths!
can someone headping my mum? She was meant to skype me hours ago!
I think mine may be, "looking on the bright side" :)
AMY'S MUMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
did she watch the party video?
I will show her next week when I am at home, I need to see her reaction :D
HEIKKI'S FUTURE MOTHER IN LAWWWWWWW!!!!!!! ;)
Is anyone else thinking Mr Saward drink-and-chat evening should be held post race, like the sunday night? Be better to drink and chat about a race that has happened. At least the chat would be factual and not speculative.
Me too. Perhaps this group launch isn't such a bad idea ;)
I'd imagine he'd be far, far far too busy after the race, GP+ and all.
Morning all!
Classic Team Lotus e-mailed me this morning, and I'm starting work there at 11am! :D
yippee!
woohoo!!!
I think this sums up how I feel at the moment:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgcUIMhKkzE
That is all :D
Well done sir - short notice but great news!
Yay! IT Changed my laptop battery as it was a duffer. New one charging as we speak :D
I'll say! I had to quickly ring the Jobcentre to see if it was OK to start today and I just fill in the necessary forms next time I go in, which I'll do tomorrow to getit out of the way.
They said it was OK :P
Right, taxi will be here in a minute so I shall say goodbye for now. See ya :D
Ooh, a bank investing in F1. How odd.
It's weird isn't it... We have lots of people jumping ship (manufacturers and banks) and then there are the counter examples Mercedes and now this.
I love this but it has caused me a problem. I just realised that I have no idea who the first British driver to win a world championship race was. I would guess Hawthorn in France 1953 when he famously beat Fangio but I can't ver remember reading about the first British winner.
The important thing about you Steven... Is that you know that you don't know.
I think it is this one but am still checking because I need to know. This is a very famous race though so peple should be aware of it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_French_Grand_Prix
Looks like it to me... If Wikipedia can be believed. It's usually pretty good in this area:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F1_1950
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F1_1951
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F1_1952
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F1_1953
It was Hawthorn in that race. Phew.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Grand_Prix_winners
You would have thought that fact would have made his wikipedia page and would be something that is quoted occasionally.
This is me occasionally quoting the fact as requested ;)
Sorry I missed that?
Steven said: "thought that fact... would be something that is quoted occasionally."
Ah OK. :)
On the subject of misspelled press releases, my inbox has just pinged with one from Lola which speaks of 'competetors'...
Shame all this hadn't happened a couple of weeks ago or they could have added a point for best spelling in their stupid new points system
People in fragile glass enclosures, etc...
The editor of F1R has just popped by my desk to point out that I spelled 'organisation' with a 'z' in last week's submission. I cravenly blamed it on all the business-speak I was digesting at the forum.
Judging by the amount of writing you did last week, one was always going to slip through! ;)
You should say that it happened because you are having to tailor your writing to an international audience in order to get more readers now that somebody has caused your press pass to go walkies... Or... wait maybe that wouldn't work.
*holds sidepodcast in fear*
I dont want my results for my c++ assignment :(
hey hey
good luck chap.
That's what I call Misorginisation
I'll get my coat
Fingers crossed mate!
I have a Maths mock tomorrow and I am revising science, that's how much of a genius I am. :D
So you are mocking the maths mock then?
I am mocking the Maths mock that will mock me tomorrow.
Afternoon.
want one
Do you not think that it might promote drag racing though?
more than a yellow light? no.
Fair enough. It sounds like a reasonable idea - but then stop/start technology should be made mandatory anyway!
i just like the idea of knowing. if the lights won't change for 5 minutes, that information could be useful.
that's a decent amount of time to catch up with comments.
I think it is a bad idea. It is unnecessarily complicated. There are enough broken traffic lights without making them more complicated.
Red to red and amber before green is incredibly stupid and should have been dropped in the 60s
Why so? I hate getting surprised when there is no amber - especially on a bike...
i despise the idea of waiting for an unknown amount of time.
Hello :)
same!!!
although with this system, the yellow is clearly pointless.
afternoon.
Because people go early.
Just listening to December's Motorsport Magazine Podcast (which is excellent BTW), who reckon that Anthony Davidson is in line for the Merc drive...
You haven't even passed a test yet. You don't know the misery of sitting at a red light at 2am when there is no-one else on he road in the same post code
:)
I really enjoyed that one. They still sound a bit stiff but they are getting better.
i know the misery of sitting in a test waiting for ages and ages for the traffic lights to change... that was horrible :(
Hmm. Do people in the UK, when they get held up by a guy reacting too slow to a green light make their move after it has turned red? They do it here and it's like they deserved to make the turn or something?
Luxury. You had daylight and had not been up for 18 hours straight just getting home from work.
Roebuck talked better when he did Niki Lauda impressions :D
That's because there's no people in Scotland! ;)
Not so much now because a lot of lights have cameras.
grrrrrr
I should point out I have been to Denmark.
I just meant the population density is lower than say, where Lou lives (guessing here).
And yes, in Denmark it feels like there is nobody around for miles sometimes!
i'm off to have a driving lesson, and no doubt get stuck for an unknown amount of time behind some traffic lights, bye! xx
Good luck :)
Have fun.
Ouch problems for Mercedes before they even begin: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/12/14/ouch-that-is-going-to-hurt-mercedes-gp/
I wonder how something like that can happen? I mean surely you would expect more oversight?
Can you say 'Qadbak'?
How can anyone think that they have signed a deal worth $130 million without a single board member even speaking to them? Henkel used to sponsor McLaren so it should not be too hard to find someone in F1 who knows the company.
This sounds like an increibly incompetent fraud. Even the Tyco fraudsters did not advertise their fraud on the side of an F1 car and they were pretty blatant.
sounds like eddie vs. vodafone.
although i've never managed to work out how the man who invented alexander graham bell, could fail to land an agreement with a telephony company.
EJ was too busy thinking about inventing Jordan F1 he let a deal slip through his hands about his other inventions
ahhh.
F1 sponsorships can be odd beasts, especially when it comes to the people with smaller logos. Often it's a quid pro quo technology partnership where little cash actually changes hands.
I interviewed a chap in Monaco for a blog entry on this subject in the new year...
Don't forget that he invented Michael Schumacher as well.
ahh, so it's eddie's fault.
assumed it was button's.
I know a lot of that goes on. If I had been talking to someone about $130 million I would have been inviting members of the board to tour the factory or visit a test. If I was getting blocked from meeting them I would then have been looking for someone who knew the company and there must be someone at Brawn who knows someone at McLaren they can speak to without kyboshing the deal.
EJ invent buttons as well.
Nooo Cadburys did!!
It is such an incestuous sport. Everyone seems to know everybody else's business. It beggars belief that this went on as long as it did without anyone finding out.
Makes me think that this has been known for a while, but one party or another is trying to break the deadlock by making it public.
Awesome!! I got a B! which is soo much more than I was expecting... *does happy dance*
Congrats
Very well done! Is that the bubble thing?
Noo that was for my database. This was all c++ programming and coding about heuristics and allsorts... #longwords
I can't believe what I've just seen on my bird feeder... http://img160.yfrog.com/i/6s5s.jpg/
Is that a parrot?
but where is the green parrot?
good stuff. easy right?
I am still recovering my sanity ;)
hehe!
I think so!
or maybe a parakeet...
The power of the zoom lens... Here, from my iPhone, is how far away I actually was: http://img70.yfrog.com/i/1muz.jpg/
ahh driving is fun :)
awesome!!! Well done Lukeh!! :)
Well done mate!
It's good that you still enjoy it. Do you have your next test booked yet?
I love it. When do we start? :)
A couple of weeks ago. We need to save Notus from their own incompetence. Although to be fair I didn't know who the first British driver to win a race was so I am not sure I am qualified
But I can spell Clark
And Kovalainen.
yes but it's a while away was trying to bring it forward to next week, but there is still one less examiner at the test centre which means 35 less driving tests a week. It's so frustrating, because i can drive... and my occasional driving lesson is now just practising manoeuvres which i'm able to do.. and driving places i can drive to fine..
You have to have that attitude for the test. Try to forget about nerves and just get through it. I know the test seems like a big deal but the hard part is really the first time you head off yourself to somewhere you have never been before. That is a lot harder than the test.
oh dear. Leo Laporte is on the phone with his mother telling her to go to facebook and check her privacy settings.
Hilarity has ensued.
I heard that earlier. I tend to have similar experiences with my mother. Trying to get her to do exactly what I tell her to do or to describe exactly what she is seeing is impossible
Good afternoon on 'Tired Monday'
[yawns]
i look forward to that then.. :)
afternoon :)
ooh. which show, must watch later.
Twit 225, about 35 minutes in?
cheers :)
i'm half-regretting the trip to Oxford St and Regent St Sunday afternoon. So so tired, and calves hurt.
The test should be easy then.
the problems come when my nerves kick in :(
Can you drift it around corners? ;)
You need to trick your central nervous system into thinking it's just another lesson
Hey everybody. After listening to Fighting Talk last night, Jake Humphrey, well, not sure I can look at him in the same light now......
if i was able to do that i'd be a much happier person, i seem to be getting worse when it gets to tests/exams etc.
don't have a red bull before the test, have a hot chocolate to calm down.. but don't go to sleep..
That is exactly the right attitude. It's all fun and you learn from it. It is no terrifying or something you can't do
And again later when she phoned him back but with twit live on her laptop. He was trying to tell her to mute it but she didn't understand so the sound bounced around for ages.
Nerves are banned. I hear that Bassano can stop you being remotely nervous. Cheeky Vimto apparently stops all nerves
*not recommended for driving activities
Neither is being very nervous so they cancel each other out. It will be fine
ahahahaha i'm never ever touching cheeky vimto.. #sorrybassano..
:)
Am pretty sure that being nervous isn't generally illegal
Sniffing Cheeky Vimto at 5 paces, whilst holding car keys, is questionable ;)
If I were you, I wouldn't either
Though in 20 years time, you may not say the same thing
it was really nice... but it seems very dangerous... you're probably right though :P
It's all about the proverbial 'in moderation'
SSN have just said Ferrari will not stand in the way of Michael Schumacher of joining Mercedes.
Who or what is SSN?
Sky Sports News.
Schumacher still has contracts with Shell and other Ferrari suppliers and they may not be keen to let him switch to their competition when he is in their ads etc
reuters now have the story too..
IF he moves to Mercedes i wont be happy...2010 is looking more and more like a season i wont like..
tis all jenson's fault ;)
I shall phone up Ross and go "NO.
.......NO."
I'm sure he'll get the message
it really is! stupid 2009 world champion... should have stuck with Brawn... *grumble grumble*
Sounds like Luca was answering a question rather than suggesting there is anything in the story
hahaha i can only hope Shov and Bono will join Jenson at Mclaren...
Surely Shumi likes being a Ferrari ambassador. I'm shocked he'd want to give up a lifetime of that for a couple of years driving a mediocre car.
Yeah, it really did have an awful 2009 did that Brawn car
Their F1 sources are a bit questionable and Reuters aren't the best with F1 at times
Possibly clutching at straws here but what's a hopeful fan to do?
I really can't see that they're on top of development for next year though. Even by the end of last season, they were struggling to keep up.
He could be bored
He is a racing driver. They are not like the rest of us. Besides he can spend the rest o his life as a Merc ambassador and not have to drive another FIAT again in his whole life
Oi! I drive a fiat!!
he must be.
Wow... Here you are Lukeh... you can use your Mad SQL Skilz on this...
http://www.jobserve.com/JobDetail.aspx?ID=FEAFCACC113F0B28&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1
Who said your course was annoying :)
All de Montezemolo has said is that Ferrari don't have an enforceable contract so can't stop him moving if he decides to.
That is a horrible mix of AWESOME and ARGH.
Arghsome, perhaps.
in london??
Must be McLaren right?
It was the German, with the Punto, in the petrol station - wot did it! :)
If you had the choice of a free FIAT forlife or free Mercs and you were worth more millions than you could ever count which would you choose?
awesome! does this mean Lukeh can move to London?
Yup :)
City Of London?
Do you think Jenson has demanded a seperate database as part of his contract?
On the other hand....
That's very strange. Established in 1960...
But you didn't become accustomed to open wheel racing, pulling several G's
I wouldn't swap Alphonso for millions of anything!!
Lotus?
Multiple FI drivers, is his for Vijay? ;)
Nigerian conman?
He is worth around $800 million. If he offered to give you all of that for your car you would not swap?
I'm in a baaaaaaaaaaad mood. Cheer me up?
taaaa
Evening :P
virgin are the only team with offices in london, aren't they?
That may be just the agency address?
Lou had a good driving lesson
Did it go well?
And they aren't in the city I don't think?
I think it is probably just the recruitment agency
true.
Virgin certainly don't have "To date they have notched up multiple FI drivers' world championship titles and constructor's world championships."
hello
yep :)
goodo.
how is everyone?
I'm not selling my baby!!!
Heya Jon. ;)
Which means McLaren, Williams, Renault, Ferrari or Lotus
Hello Jon, is this sheep related?
Only a 'yes' deserves an explanation ;)
The recruitment company is on fleet street. That might be close enough for jazz to make sense.
I can't be bothered with this week.
Founded in the 60s?
For $800 million? Are you insane?
If you read my Schumi guest post, I said Ferrari may have no choice but to let him go. But his Ferrari-related sponsors (Shell, Philip Morris) - that is a VERY different story.
umm.....
no
Different Lotus, isn't it?
me either. i wanna go home
Back to Lotus then or McLaren
Is that an offer? I (heart) Alphonso. He's my favourite thing in the whole world!!
Yes. The other version could spell Clark
I've just seen one line that makes whatever the job is amazing
'Our client offers extensive benefits including VIP trips to F1 races such as Monaco and Shanghai!'
VIP trips to monaco! awesome :P
I don't have that kind of money but Schumacher does so you need to ask him
I can hear my neighbour practising jingle bells on her flute, downstairs
SPC commenter?
I can't believe you want to buy my baby :(
Sorry Nick?
It's not Lotus. They started in 1958. So it can only be McLaren
Is she available for the sidepodparty? We need a flute player. Go ask her now.
miss quote?
I'm glad I guess right then! Woohoo!
I really don't want to buy a FIAT ever again
I'm sure he'd understand!! If not well errrrm tough?
In their launch Notus spelled Clark with an e
Now where would I start that conversation?
They are serious though
The first two names do, not sure if that third driver speaks seriousness though. i guess if I scroll back 10 hours, I'll find your comments :)
Yeah, but what has that got to do with me wanting to go home?
You tell her that you can't believe it is a co-incidence that she is playing the same tune you are writing a verse for and take it from there
OOPS
Besides, she sounds like she needs a lot more practice. Even for us! :)
Ask Alex to help? he seems good at having conversations where he has an odd request... like asking to borrow a bin to use as a catapult for hummus.. :D
What better time for her to practise? If you can recognise the tune she is plenty good enough for us
Just wait till the owner of the wall finds out what he did to that
thought so :D
I got it in the first three notes. I've always been good at that round. Even when the timing's WAY out
Aww im in such a christmassy mood tonight :) Breaking up for christmas from uni with awesome news is a good combination. I heartily recommend it!
Who is going to notice timing with the skype lag? Have you hear last year's singing?
can you convince mine to break up on wednesday?
trip to the msa then finish for the year, that would be nice
I'm still not asking. She's actually very good, does recitals and everything
Maybe she's started teaching privately?
Well I've already convinced ross brawn to not sign schumacher so i'll give it a go :P
i am yet to feel christmassy, and i'm not sure why. maybe it's alevels..
Just think how happy you will make Christine if there is a surprise flute player at the party. Of course if you want to make Christine miserable that's up to you.
#blamealevels
Its a good hashtag ;)
Christmas is far from my favourite time of year. Nice angle but it won't work round 'ere :D
When did we stop blaming fourstar?
i can blame fourstar for not feeling christmassy?... awesome!!
#blamefourstar
Perhaps you need a handy advent calendar online which you can use to keep track how close to christmas we actually are? There's one here (I think): http://gigglesadvent.com
awesome plug there :D hehe
Well I'm about to head off into the outside world (I'll try and keep the updates coming in don't you worry). But in case I don't get a chance to remind everyone it's the end of a row tomorrow (15th) so... It's a special square.
It's the longest giggles advent yet, and it's got a surprise mystery guest!!!
Hey guys :D Wow, what an awesome first day at Classic Team Lotus. I helped with a tour of the workshop and met Martin Brundle. :D
I didn't know there were special squares
Pretty good going :)
As first days go, that ain't too bad :D
And on Wednesday we've got Jarno Trulli visiting.
thats pretty darn cool
More fun than your last job then?
The last ones of the row are special squares. 5 was the the first news roundup one, 10 was the singing the news one, 15 is... well you'll just have to go to http://gigglesadvent.com after midnight tonight to find out :)
Wow!
Hell. yeah.
Not too sure I've heard of him...
Some F1 driver apparently.
Mr Woodwiss, i've got a game that you'll like. It's called "Live for speed"
i've only got the demo, but it's a proper sim, and you use your mouse to drive the car, it's quite challenging but alot of fun. you should check it out
DON'T drive into him in carpark
Just don't
wow that's pretty awesome :)
Ask him if he can get you Sutil's autograph the next time he bumps into him
:) :) :)
Mr Roy, whadya think of this?
#confidential ;)

I so hope you double booked him with Sutil.
*Gets popcorn
I think he may get fired v.quickly ;)
:D
Ask him if you can use the piece of paper that he's carrying around in his hand to get an autograph of Sutil as it seems to have a picture of Sutil's car on it ;)
Still, what a way to go out.
Looks really good. You need a logo. Lukeh? Any ideas?
We has got a logo ta :D
Is Trulli planning on driving a classic Lotus for some publicity video or photos?
Good. I guess the next thing you need is the layout
yeah will fiddle about with that over christmas, just had to get hte words right for our msa guy on wednesday. am gonna see if i can shove it under Stuarts nose before then
Good plan
Oh aye, I know of LFS. Played it too in the past. My laptop would never be able to run it smoothly though, would be too jerky.
Also found out that Jacques Villeneuve had popped down a week or so ago to see the place, as did Jake Humphreys.
I did also see the Lotus 49 and 79 up close for the first time, they had them in the workshop. I have quite a few pictures and I will pop them onto my Flickr page in a moment.
Sadly I didn't get any pictures of or with Brundle. He was only in where I was working at the time for a matter of 5 minutes, and I was busy helping bag up merchandise orders from the website.
Nice to see that the place is full of great cars
He is a local so he is probably in there occasionally
His son Alex was there too.
i was gonna ask. Alex Brundle has always confused me greatly. I dont know what to make of the lad
http://www.jonathansummerton.com/
does this work? or is it jsut me?
Works here. Blatent plug I'd say. ;)
He's certainly ambitious.
The website?
For me, yes. Maybe yours is slow to load
Unless you mean his T-Shirt, then, no ;)
grrrr. dosent work for me
no it dosent work at all, comes up with a could not load
Flash player issues
Which browser are you using?
ff
FF3.5 ok here
Try another or update your Flash/plugins
Don't get the point of a site that takes ages to load nowadays. Web design needs to be better than that
just tried chrome so it must be my internet
speedtest.net
I just downloaded a new flash update today so maybe this is the latest version
Folks, stuntfenix1 on YouTube has all the FIA Gala goodies - highlight reels not only from F1 2009, but from WRC and WTCC 2009 as well. The WRC clip was well-thought of and out of the box for a highlight reel. :)
http://www.speedtest.net/result/652452646.png
it's an internet thing. sometimes sites just dont work on mine
You and the internet don't get on much, do they? ;)
it hates me
Yoooooooouuuuuu gotta SWITCH! :)
I'm in halls. I don't have no choice
Not your internetz, maybe it's your hardware
No it is, when i'm at home it's ppeeeeeeeeeeeeerfect
Fearsome Uni firewall?
something like that. generally it's "ok" but there's just certain things it dosent like. It's never had an issue with Mr Summerton before though.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80575
A variation on this was mentioned earlier
Slow news day? ;)
Schuey fever escalates
Trulli is in the news, so yes, a very slow news day based on his trains
And btw LDM: If he's such a dear friend, how can you blatantly say you haven't discussed this issue with MS?
Because Alonso will throw a wobbly because he will think they have been talking about him.
You have to ask why he has not signed a contract that was agreed in September
They used the same contract writers as Jaime?
Perhaps the commisioner post was lined up by Jean Todt in the event of his election?
#nothere
Longest-ever highlight reel, BTW - it comes in at 11 minutes, 30 seconds! :O
but it's awesome!! :D
Here ya are, folks :)

can you get in on this URL?

More news on Schumi from JA's blog: JA is starting to think it's going to happen. Schumi didn't attend the yearly Ferrari Christmas Lunch, while LDM spoke of Kimi, Felipe, and Fernando, but not Schumi.
I have a bad feeling about this - the "ending in tears" type.
Not jealous. Not at all. Honest ')
So what is your job there Scott?
At the moment I'm helping out on the merchandise side of things, so it's just helping with online orders, getting them bagged up and payments put through. I'm on a two month trial working 3 days a week, and then we'll have a meeting to see where we go from there, if at all.
It's not the most glamourous job in the world, but if it means I get to be around some truly great Lotus F1 cars whilst I do it, then I'm happy :)
nope
what you've showed us is that really you dont do any work ;) and that you just take pictures :P
You get in on the ground floor and see what you can make of it. It sounds like a lot of people with good contacts are visiting regularly so you just need to impress and who knows where you can go. Classic racing is a huge business now.
And that he didn't mention there was a 72 there earlier.
Oh I do work, but I asked if I could first when there was some free time. They said that was perfectly fine, but I wasn't allowed to take any pics of Clark's Indy Lotus. Realising that one of my pics had it in the background by mistake, I've cropped it so that it is no longer visible.
I'm pretty sure I did, you must have missed it. :P
The 49 and 79 weren't there when I first visited. I think they were away at the Essen Motor Show at the time. It was great to see both of them up close.
I wonder why. It;s not like it hasn't been photographed a million times already
Well it's over here being restored, so that could be the reason why. But I didn't question it and just took pics of the rest of the cars.
Definitely should not ask or tell us even if you knew
Jenson!! BBC1!!
Like I said, I don't know the exact reason why, and I didn't question it and just got on with taking pics of the other cars.
Plus, they let the people on the tour see it and they were told what their plans with it were, so it wasn't exactly off limits. But I hear what you're saying.
Jenson
My personal carbon footprint is not too large.
So all that flying round the world is cancelled out by switching off lights?
i wanna know what keke thinks of this.
he didn't lewis showing his lil'boy up and wants nico to be germany's next superstar driver.
this must be worst, worst case scenario.
what about that airline he's starting?
peter windsor bought them all?
LEGEND!
It might just about edge having Lewis as a teammate. He should have at least half a chance of beating Schumi. But if Schumi beats him... I think he can kiss his F1 title dreams goodbye.
ooh Mr C, i've realised that it's fourstar isnt it
if he loses to a 40y/o schumi, germany will laugh at him.
if he beats the 40y/o schumi, germany will hate him.
;)
appreciate you having my back though.
it was late. i was half asleep.
psshh
np
whatt??? did i miss it?
Germany might hate him, but that's just about the biggest scalp anyone can ever claim. Yeah, Michael's 41, but can anyone else claim that he beat Michael Schumacher when they were teammates?
That's assuming Michael lets it happen, of course. I suspect that if he can't beat Nico, he'll quit midseason.
I think he'll notice when a Sauber comes up and laps him.
(and goes on to win the race, #dreaming)
that's not where the money is though. being germany's favoured son is.
if there isn't a clause in his contract, i will be stunned.
also, like ross brawn is going to make schumi defacto number one.
look what he did with rubens.
:D
ooh, am sooooo glad rubens left that team now.
phheeeew.
O.O about 4 people on facebook now have their status as <3 Jenson Button... this is scary/worrying... bad times..
Oh my god, me too!! I never thought of that!!!!
The one show. Should be on the iplayer at midnight
no we won't
Though in theory, Rubens + Nico = No Schumacher?
this explains a few things.. :)
lucky, lucky escape.
best career move since he bailed from ferrari?
Second best ;)
If he signs him and he can still drive then he will be number one
honest? it sounds like the country is head over heels in love all over again.
but Schumacher isn't coming back right...?
I don't think he will. I'm just speaking theoretically.
agreed. my comment should have read:
like ross brawn ISN'T going to make schumi defacto number one.
brawn knows no other way.
It's big news of course. But nobody is going to hate Rosberg if he beats Schumi.
i... kinda... hope... he... is....
if he screws it up, it could ruin him. if alonso beats him in a ferrari, i shall be so happy.
imagine if massa beats him...
good point.
Correct.
JA is starting to think it's on.
*spits out drink*
I've just choked on my penguin.
If Schumi does return, Rosberg needs to beat him. His career has been in stagnation for way too long.
*Mr C style* WHAT?!
are you sure? well, i guess if Nico beats Schumi, they'd pity Schumi but care little for Nico...
seriously. he's old. he's probably not 100%. he's been out of it for years. he's not in a ferrari.
look what happened to jacques. he was made to look a laughing stock.
None of that matters unless the guy in the same car beats him. If he beats Rosberg and they are the last two in the championship it just proves the car is bad.
This takes the drink - I MUST be dreaming. Wake me up now, this nightmare is WAY too much for me! :P
but... but....but.... then i loose my all time favourite amazing, incredible team!... Ross Brawn will have saved them... and then ruined them in the space of a year!! :( and it will be hard for Jenson to come back to them...
I'm going to end up supporting ferrari next year.. i can just tell :)
also... i now hope more than anything that Shov and Bono have jumped ship with Jenson, because the idea of them being engineers to either Nico of HIM upsets me alot.
I bet he wishes he was against Lewis at McLaren now rather than against Schumacher and Brawn
And it clearly wasn't the car.
but that's okay. i just like to see him lose.
well. crash and and then lose. but mostly lose.
I would be VERY surprised if Schumi didn't at least test the car before making a decision. If the car's crap, he wouldn't sign on, surely?
but.. he has Mr Brawn...
If his neck is 100% he will be just like he was before he quit
i wouldn't care for them, no.
felipe baby!
he has no time?
Despite three years out and only driving karts and motorbikes?
good point you raise there - Shov might become Schumi's engineer.
Guess who's back
Back again
Schumi's back
Tell a friend
That's probably what they said about Lauda. Look what happened when he came back.
bad horrible sad times!!! he'll have killed my team. boo to him!
hmm :)
You are turning to the dark side?
No why would they/we? *is confused*
I can see myself supporting Williams next season. Rosberg, for me, is just a generic driver who needs an exceptional year to prove that he actually is worth the time and if they get Schumacher too then there's no way I can support him. I feel bad turning my back onthe team in Brackley though if that were the case :(
Would Mercedes not let Shov go with Jenson?
was Shov Schumi's engineer before then?
If Jenson has any intelligence he will have insisted on it. Don't be surprised if Schumacher parachutes his guys in
I suggest the dark blue side.
Nope, that was Chris Dyer.
Hmmm... Perhaps. But if I were Schumi, I just wouldn't rush into this. Merc needs him way more than he needs them.
it's getting a bit late for that isn't it? how much gardening leave will those people need. 6 months? 9 months?
Why not? Lauda did it and Schumacher is fitter than Lauda ever was and he doesn't have serious money worries
the man clearly isn't thinking straight.
this is the craziest gamble. for no good reason.
i love my team i really do.. they are incredible.. but with a team of Schumi and Rosberg... there isn't much to love is there... but Felipe, Rob, Alonso and Stefanano ;) i mean they are all awesome...
I'll always love the brackley lot.. will see what happens.. looks like i may just be supporting Team Button though :(
*prays Ant gets the Brawn seat and all is well with the world*
Jenson spent years building up his awesome team, and he;s great friends with them all, i just hope Brawn lets them go with him..
ah okay :)
nooo, commentary box for him.
schumi for brawn. i'm warming to this idea.
If he didn't do it up front it won't happen now
Agreed, only for the sanity of me.
Get di Resta in there.
Have you been doing c++?
oh no! that would be awesome....
not sure i like you anymore mr c.... you've changed....
;)
Didn't you see my comment earlier? He's off to Mercedes apparently!
So, if Schumi gets/takes the drive, you guys will still do podcasts, right?
Schumi is also older now than when Lauda made his comeback.
:)
there's a chance he can fail on a massive scale. a good chance. i'll take that gamble.
Motor Sport in their December podcast said Ant was a certainty
then there is noo need to have this convo Ant is going to save me from insanity and save my team too :D
That's the last thing I want to see happen to him and I don't even like him!
At last someone is talking sense
Do we know who or what their source is?
oh yes!
Lukeh's got a serious hate on going!
Schumi to fail in a Merc or Ant to fail in the Merc.
Mr C, I see some sense.
He 'had it on good authority'.
I like the prospect of Mr C laughing at Schumi every show if he fails. :D
Mr C has committed to the next 20 years
cool. that is all I care about!
party poppers.
and a big horn.
So someone on that show has good links with Mercedes?
i'll compromise... Schumi to do a piquet in Merc and fail miserably and get fired... Ant to save the day mid season?
Bring on 2011!!
urm, 2010. I am a year ahead.
hehe. amy's coming all the way across the world for a meetup, i can sulk about michael, but i can't sulk that much!
exactly, the year when Jenson goes back to Mercedes.. and all is well with the world ;)
Still don't want Ant.
He has not had a near death experience. He does not have serious money worries and he may be older in terms of age but in terms of attitude, fitness etc he is a lot younger
I have no idea. Listen to the podcast!
They are jourrnalists so they have their own sources who they are not going to name
only Ant for 1/2 a season.. then he can go back to commenting duties when Jenson comes back in 2011 after a swift exit from Mclaren.. i've got it all worked out :P
Would this be appropriate?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC75aU47GRk
he's up against, younger and more agile people.
much younger that lauda had to face.
I'll allow Ant to be in GP2.
:o!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if he wins everything yes.
but i'm backing alonso.
Besides you will sell a lot more Michael who? shirts
Would you use them for me if and when Schumi wins? :D
also true.
Good point.
you have permission to phone in and do so.
I'll take that as a yes.
Lauda ended up with a very hungry Alain Prost as his team mate not Nico Rosberg
take it as a NO! :)
Oh RG.
i'm really not bothered about teammates though. nico is irrelevant.
A big loud no
Evening all. Don't forget today is the deadline for season review submissions. If you haven't done yours already, get reviewing! 0121 28 87225.
Just watching the bit I missed last night from SPOTY - how did they nominate some of these people?
exactly.
Oh okay, a few LMS races as well...
Good point. But Niki needed three seasons to win that title. Michael will probably only have one. Two at most if they can't pull out Seb from his RBR contract.
The point is that Lauda had to cope with Prost and succeed because that was the only wayhe could get the money to sort his airline out and not end up broke. He had a far harder job than Schumacher would if he comes back and he won a championship.
Deadline. I remembered there was a deadline. I just sort of forgot it was now
I asked my friend his F1 driver of the year and he said Nico
I havent laughed like that in a while
ahhh, ok, with ya.
I will probably extend it to tomorrow, so I can give it a mention in the daily. I also forgot for today.
Its like having Bernie Ecclestone here.
Part of that was car related. McLaren had just started with carbon chassis so it was only in 1984 that they had a car to properly challenge with.
If Schumacher is only coming back for one season he is insane. He needs to sign a two or three year contract or I really don't understand what he is thinking
Hehehe. I don't think Bernie extends things cos he forgets.
I must think of something to say then
:D
So I'll just have to procrastinate another day before I can go "D'OH!, I forgot!"
Or you could just call up. Tis really easy - 0121 28 87225.
Judging by your audio efforts recently, that shouldn't be too difficult, I would have thought :P
I wonder if I can make international calls from my work phone.... ;)
my microphone is in front of me, audacity is open, i just have not a great deal to say.
trying to work out what my favourite bit of the year was
Do what I did - just record yourself with no script and see the ridiculousness that unfolds
It's free if you have skype, and I also accept mp3s via email - [email protected]
i heard there's a good mini-series for that:
http://sidepodcast.com/category/mini-series/
Trouble is there were not a dozen people posting Villeneuve articles. I need to find an unusual angle or say something different from everyone else or there is no point wasting Christine's time listening and editing
i wondered who'd get there first ;)
You can skype
DANGIT STOP MAKING THIS EASY TO DO! :P
mine will no doubt be the most predictable review ever... :)
Your opinion is valid even if it is the same as someone else's. Just say who the best driver of the year was and why.
It's a sad day when we have to ask you nicely to give us an opinion - you've always got something to say ;)
"JENSON WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
*cries a bit*
WOOOOOOOOO
*claps excitedly*"
you know me too well.. i think i'm over the crying though :P
No mention of being on the moon or ceiling?
if you want me to?
You forgot the squeals of excitement :)
Sidepodgame!
http://christmas.motorsportvision.co.uk/one.aspx
It's great. I've got 34ish at the moment

30.34 for me
Mine too. Just glad we are not competitive
grrr
it's not like i've been attempting to go as fast as i can in order to beat you or anything... it would be tough if we were competitive :)
30.05
Woop 29.89
29.65
30.59 oh
grrr
29.39
That would be mathematically impossible otherwise, doh.
30.43 after just 2 goes.
Boooo
Stupid game. I can't get below 33s. Time for food then defrag and check my computer is optimised for the game. Glad I am not taking it too seriously ;)
how comes?
Yes, I think this calls for some non-Comepetitive biccies
I have no idea what I mean by saying that. ignore me.
Bleh it's annoying me now. *closes*
I have a short attention span with these games
okay so lowest i can get is 34.01s... not that i'm competitive...
if it was written in C++ would you be even more annoyed! ;)
s/!/?/
Boo yah! 28.96!
Right Woodwiss, war.
Shhh you
You better have a pistol, because we are about to duel!
Bahh, I don't like C++ that much either. I prefer C.
28.67
29.13. I'm catching you Mr Woodwiss.
28.13, the Sauber has came and went Scott.
27.98
I thank you.
I needed fuel.
w00t! My car is fixed! I can finally get back to driving something fun and get out of an SUV!
You've both gone very quiet. Have you concentrated yourself to death?
I've had a good day outside - it's not as scary as it looks - and I've sorted out several Christmas presents, my headphones for next term's classes and got out of class 35 minutes early!
I was about to go crazy, but then I did a 27.08
Ooh you sound like an F1 driver after qualifying.
For sure it was an immense pain, but after it now I think for sure it was worth doing that 27.08 for sure.
God I'm dead.
The team have done a great job this weekend...
Can i point you towarads the leader board....the top guy dida 25.66.
Keeeep going!
you are evil mr waldock... very evil...
...
I suppose one more can't hurt.
famous last words of every true gamer ever.
And 6 hours later....
That's why he is running a karting team
and that makes me evil?
am confused
I see. Oops! Back to my Weet-Bix
Oooh YAY! Those wonderful documentaries about JYS and Graham Hill are on BBC4 next week :)
Gah, and Jim Clark too obviously.
they ar in the drop aren't they?
evening..
Ooh, a bank investing in F1. How odd. {Comment #79}
Well, everything has its exceptions - Mercedes among manufacturers, Piquet Jr among (ex-)F1 drivers, green circles among ideas to make tyres more interesting...
Great pics Scott, really good of them to let you take them!
They are?
i thought one of them was? maybe not...
I'm sure one of them is, I remember you telling me about it :)
me too... if only drop.io had a search function..
It need's Mr C's super-freakin-fast-search™
Ditto. I was going to do one today but I can't think. I should try writing it down.
I have decided that I can't do overhead driving games
36s and my fingers hurt already
http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/12/2009_in_photos_part_1_of_3.html
Picture #17 is a shot of Massa out of the car after his crash in Hungary.
Turn 8 in istanbul is Okay. but pouhon is still the corner that does it for me. eau rouge is rubbish!
Awww man at 39...
yeah, I know :(
Given in on that game, just can't make the top twenty no matter what.
I just rememebered Must Comment Monday.
oh no.
i have to do it this week too
Whyzat?
ran out of time last week.
How do I make Google Reader show things just from today?
erm... no idea, i don't use it. christine's the expert and is now in bed.
Oh, I thought she was joking!
OK I have an original angle on the season so Christine will get my views overnight.
yay :)
I have gone all biblical. Who knew that there was a religious interpretation of the season?
#sidepodspace.
Missed a rocket launch today. Nothing overly exciting but I don't like missing launches.
Night RG
Which was it?
night

Hello. Just lurking as I'm still completing the 2009 Gala playlist. In the meantime, something to chew on:
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2009/12/step-by-step-towards-a-schumacher-deal-with-mercedes/
From JA himself. Basically, the intent is there, but the diligence has yet to be completed. If you were to ask me... it still won't happen.
ahh
My season review is completed. 2 minutes 22 seconds
good man! christine will love that.
Season review e-mailed to Christine and Mr C. MP3 and text versions
recieved.
Does anyone else have the ustream viewer app for iPhone and iPod Touch? I had a quick look yesterday, and it looks like broadcasters need to email ustream to be listed as available for viewing.
Does anyone have time to investigate this?
alex is probably the man. i don't think it works on itouch.
it's just the viewer though - not a recorder
anyhoo, must get some sleep now. North American hours are whack!
Good night (your night, not mine). :D
oh. in that case i'm confused.
do you have a link?
night journeyer.
just search ustream on iTunes
ok, have that. what am i looking at?
okay, i think i understand now. i have found leo's twit channel, but not alex's live stream from the weekend, so i'm guessing you have to be a featured channel before you appear?
wanders in...
Hello.
Just a quick note to say I've noticed that The Cannonball Run is to be shown on the 22nd on FiveUS at 21h00
If that might be of any interest to anyone...
Hope all heads are well following the weekend :-P
cheers, am surviving :)
Good spot. I stumbled across it on 'normal' Five about a week (or two?) ago, if you haven't seen it then you must. A good film to kick back and relax to, the plot is incidental, just good fun :-)
The main problem here is the tiredness, which is as much to do with the shopping trip the next day and my forgetting to have an early night last night.. and probably tonight..
OK I'm gonna head off.. I'll see you all Wednesday probably. Night!
Night.
see you tomorrow! :) night!
Going anywhere interesting? :-)
To london, Em's coming too, so she'll get to meet Lukeh. Basically Kat was wearing this amazing ring on saturday and Emily and I wanna check out the market she got it from, so we are gonna explore London for a bit, then head over to the christmas faire thing at hyde park, where i think a few more of my friends will be :) should be a lovely... but long and cold day. Am hoping Lukeh wont have bad travel problems like last time..
Sounds like fun. Always good to wander about London.
i really love london :) its so lovely :D
Sometimes I wish I'd moved there in my early 20s..
