Friday at last, and it is the final F1 free weekend of the summer break. I know a lot of you are missing the racing, but make the most of the time off and do something exciting. Maybe even go outside? But make sure you stay in touch, it's scary out there. Meanwhil, here's what we're talking about:

  • There's plenty of circuit news, as Bernie confirms that Malaysia will be starting an hour earlier, after the race had to be halted this year due to inclement weather. There also seems to be a possibility that Canada will be returning to the calendar soon, which can only be described in one word - woohoo!
  • Ari Vatanen has announced his cabinet for the upcoming elections. I don't really know what it means or whether it's good or not, but it is nice to hear from him. He's been a bit on the quiet side recently, with Jean Todt taking all of the headlines. Come on Ari, you can do it!
  • Piquet has hit out at Briatore again, suggesting that the Renault boss has no idea about F1. I think this is a bit on the harsh side, but I guess Nelson isn't in the mood for making friends and influencing people. If his future lies in building his own teams, I guess he doesn't need to.

That'll do it for now, I reckon. Let us know if you're doing anything exciting this weekend, and if you're not, let us know what you would want to do if you could do anything over the next two days. I'll see you in the comments.

Does Mr C have an ebook reader yet? If not what is he planning on getting?

  • RG13/08/2009 at 23:03

Didn't Thiessen earlier this year suggest Flavio knows nothing about F1?

Ooooh, two days in a row Thiessen has been my first post of the day. Intresting.

And apparantly, Herbert will be at Team Dynamics for the BTCC for the rest of the year.

I'm not sure the Kindle is the answer anyway. It seems too restrictive. Why can't it be colour, have 8GB and an SD cars slot, and be $99?

  • me13/08/2009 at 23:22

colour requires a backlight. that burns battery.

it's expensive because there's not enough competition in this space.

Books are tiny, but graphics are less so.

Qik for iPhone 3GS - now live and free from the App Store!

however, it's still not live streaming, just record and publish (probably due to at&t being dumb).

go sell cars and/or electronics for a year. It's a great way to learn about people and money. F1 is about being an entrepreneur...

Most people will think you're mad but it will make you street smart and earn lots of money if you get it right

Makes sense to me. The other option is to go to one of the major European cities and use the opportunity to learn the language and experience a different way of life. I spent a year in Paris and their were lots of people there either as students or travelling and they were making money doing bar work and the like. They were also having a ball.

Its pretty ironic that many apple fans were saying that microsoft couldnt be trusted and they would come to dictate over what software was allowed to run on its platform e.t.c... Take a look at the App store.

All companies are evil because they are about making as much money as they can. There are certainly a lot of companies that don't have Al Gore on the board of directors helping us become more environmentally friendly.

The fact that Apple won't upen up access to it and put out insane statements like jailbreaking an iphone would allow terrorists to taken down cell phone towers. Terrorists jailbreaking their iphone may have that effect but anyone else doing it is not going to help terrorists. Besides anyone with a pair of wire cutters can take down a mast.

ot really, they are barely out of the early adopter phase, if you consider how many people have smart phones compared to regular ones. the real battle wont begin for another year or so

they need to manage bad publicity a lot better. but they've never been this popular before. they don't have the people to deal with it all. they're tiny compared to microsoft.

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 01:33

I think only if the hardware is as good or better than the iPhone, and that is doubtful

I think if the major handset manufactures start using it it could get really big, but its unlikely as Nokia and the like will want to be the next apple.

The advantages is that google could open up their platform and store to others whereas apple are corporately incapable of doing anything of the sort.

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 01:42

Sony will be interesting, i cant see them getting involved with microsoft. will be interesting to see if they develop there own system. they are supposed to be brining out a unified network and shopping experience across everything they sell including tv's. based upon the playstation store

  • me14/08/2009 at 01:42

How would anyone every find your app, other than by word of mouth?

    maybe not for much longer:

"Sony Ericsson confirmed plans to launch several phones based on Android 2.0 – aka Donut - in May. The firm never said which of its devices would be the first to feature Android, but the new Xperia – now listed by online retailer Expansys – looks set to become one of the first."

You just missed me making a comment about your ideal job. You need to work in the Apple store. They provide free internet for everyone.

  • me14/08/2009 at 01:52

so, writing for windows mobile is a dead end street, palm pre isn't available in this country and i wouldn't want to go near symbian.

android, i think is java which isn't so bad, or there's the easy to program iphone, and its dodgy app store.

no fun being a mobile developer, is it?

  • me14/08/2009 at 01:53

christine's cupcake was a free update, so you'd assume so.

however, you're beholden to the network. you get it when their ready, not when google release it.

    fair point.

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 02:00

    fair point.

The G1 was not sold unbundled anywhere though so its perhaps likely t-mobile controlled its distribution. The newr phones will be available globably which wouldnt have been the case before

  • Paul14/08/2009 at 02:01

exactly that. but that's of the web too. how do you discover new blogs?

But the web is not closed with only one method of access. Apple says "this is how you get apps", and there method of distribution is very poor.

true. i found the qik app earlier, from a tweet the developers sent out.

My biggest issue is if I am just looking for something, not knowing if it is available or not. For instance, any time-tracking apps. The store is such a mess. I get games mixed up with business applications. It's useless.

agreed. the same problem exists for podcasts, although there's less of them.

if you're not on the homepage, you may as well not be in there.

  • Paul14/08/2009 at 02:09

Yep, good point. It can be even worse with podcasts. Sidpodcast, for instance, appears twice on my iPhone list when I search for it. Strangely Apple seem to drop the ball when it comes to web applications and all that back-end stuff. Mobile Me was another example.

I think only if the hardware is as good or better than the iPhone, and that is doubtful

Who would have guessed that the Apple guy would play the Apple advocate today? :)

Its not about the hardware! When will people understand this?

Its all about the user experience! We make great hardware. But what we do is focus on the user, and this is why people swear by our products.

  • Jeremy14/08/2009 at 03:03

My biggest issue is if I am just looking for something, not knowing if it is available or not. For instance, any time-tracking apps. The store is such a mess. I get games mixed up with business applications. It's useless.

How do you find apps for your computer? I don't know about you, but Google works for me when I want to find 'stuff'.

I am not a robot, I have a mind of my own, and I am open to constructive criticism of myself, and the company I work for. Please don't take my answers as company drivel.

What seems to be missed is that the App store products are just like any other product I'm looking for. I research the things I am going to buy, and I don't just look in one place. There are podcasts and blogs out there that review iPhone Apps.

Developers need to realise as well that they're free to do their own marketing. Yes, Apple takes a cut for handling the transaction when someone buys your product, but why would you expect them to do everything for you? How many developers don't have a web page that tells you about their product? Not many is my guess.

I'm hearing of companies that claim to have spent nearly 1 million dollars developing an app for iPhone. Wouldn't you put aside some of the budget for an ad campaign?

  • Jeremy14/08/2009 at 03:25

having said that i wouldn't write for the app store right now.

I would. Its a great place for a small operator to make money without huge costs. Especially with the current culture of purchasers happy to spend (small) money on less polished apps.

more learning required on apples front methinks.

Yes, we have a lot of learning to do. But that's the great thing about Apple that most people don't know. We are all about learning and improving ourselves. We are perceived as arrogant, and I know why, but we are incredibly humble on the inside. We have learned a lot of lessons over the years.

  • Paul14/08/2009 at 03:27

I am not a robot, I have a mind of my own, and I am open to constructive criticism of myself, and the company I work for. Please don't take my answers as company drivel.

These are all good point Jeremy, especially about the advertising.

However, Apple restrict very much how an application is delivered and how it can be found. A post on a web site does not mean it is available in the App Store. The only way I can find that out is from the iPhone or through iTunes. Why on earth can't the have a web site, with proper categories of application to search. Apple want us all corralled into their little world, and provide, in this case, a rubbish experience.

Advertising might be fine if you have a million dollar budget. What about the single developer who creates some fantastic app. He is almost immediately lost in silly games and light sabre apps.

  • Paul14/08/2009 at 03:37

Its not about the hardware! When will people understand this?

Its all about the user experience! We make great hardware. But what we do is focus on the user, and this is why people swear by our products.

That's kind of what I meant. The Apple "experience" wouldn't work without all that multi-touch magic, the lack of buttons etc. Whether you cann that teh hardware, design or whatever I'm not sure.

  • Sean Golding14/08/2009 at 03:43

I'm sick of microsoft word. I'm off to watch dvds.

    Back.

  • Jeremy14/08/2009 at 04:21

Advertising might be fine if you have a million dollar budget. What about the single developer who creates some fantastic app. He is almost immediately lost in silly games and light sabre apps.

So get creative! It has been mentioned here already that one of the ways to get yourself known is to deliberately create an app that wont be allowed and then inform (complain to?) various forms of media when it is rejected.

  • Jeremy14/08/2009 at 04:31

However, Apple restrict very much how an application is delivered and how it can be found.

    How it is delivered, yes.

How it can be found, not so much. As I said earlier, Google is your friend. While trying to come up with an analogy, I googled:

"how many items are sold in a supermarket?" and came up with approx 50,000. Similar to Apple's App store.

How do I find something in a supermarket? I go to the aisle and search through all the rubbish that is there until I find what I want.

I know the analogy falls down because we are talking real world versus lovely searchable internet, but I'm sure you get my point.

Perhaps during your searching you will find a product you didn't know existed and wouldn't have found without going through the manual process?

How do you discover new music? Do you like the iTunes store for the media it sells/rents?

  • Jeremy14/08/2009 at 04:40

I'm sick of microsoft word. I'm off to watch dvds.

    MS Office training DVDs? :P

  • Jeremy14/08/2009 at 04:42

That's kind of what I meant. The Apple "experience" wouldn't work without all that multi-touch magic, the lack of buttons etc. Whether you cann that teh hardware, design or whatever I'm not sure.

Which came first? The chicken, the egg or the skit about who's on first?

I can imagine a design group sitting down and asking "what can we do with this cool new technology?", and another asking "we want to do this, does the technology exist?"

  • Jeremy14/08/2009 at 04:47

i think the break has gone really quickly this year. I plan to celebrate next weeks return with kfc for free practice again :D

"Amazon keeps 70% of the subscription fee and gives the blogger 30%."

This is their network provider being annoying. That money goes to pay for the wispernet downloads. You don't sign a phone contract with a kindle so any time they can they are going to have to charge you for internet downloads. And this thing pings to check for new items and downloads them to the kindle. So say you were on the tube and you checked your sidepodcast feed it would have the articles there from when it downloaded them.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 06:44

    this may make alex's day:

Qik for iPhone 3GS - now live and free from the App Store!"Qik is the only iPhone 3GS mobile video app that lets you share your location while streaming video from your phone."

    Yay!

however, it's still not live streaming, just record and publish (probably due to at&t being dumb).

    Grrrr!

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 06:50

It's just a general trend. Jason Calicanus (sp?) had a rant but he's a bit of a **** anyway.

The Jason Calcanus thing was insane. I mean there are lots of valid things to complain about but puuuurrrllleeeaseee... When he started talking about having mutliple sim cards in the iPhone you realise that he has simply totally failed to understand a) power consumption, b) the size of the device he's talking about, c) none of the sites he was talking to have multiplexing options.

I wish he hadn't gone off of the deep end there because there are some genuine valid things to complain about. But he did a total nutty.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 06:57

How do you find apps for your computer? I don't know about you, but Google works for me when I want to find 'stuff'.

I solved the mystery of the chemically-tainted coffee, I just made a chemically-tainted hot chocolate and on asking, learned that my flatmate though it would be a smart idea to try and clean the inside of the kettle with some sort of spray-and-wipe like substance :(

I think so. For a girl who grew up with servants and thus never set foot in a kitchen, sometimes she does some silly things when shes trying to be domestic :(

  • Amy14/08/2009 at 08:40

ooh the BTCC is on TV here tonight for the first time ever. I might have to give it a watch since you all seem to talk about it when its on over there :D

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 08:41

    Awww, poor Ralph!

    I like this though:

David Schofield, head keeper for the penguins, said: "At first the other penguins were curious but it wasn't long before they recognised and accepted Ralph again.

I can imagine Ralph saying: "Guys, don't worry, it's just a coat. I'm still me."

    Morning all. :)

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 08:45

And then after a while some of the other penguins getting jealous of his cool biker coat :)

    Plus this bit:

"It was quite easy to fit and we were able to customise it by creating the extra openings for his flippers once he was in it."

Do you think you can put as a job on your passport 'penguin tailor'?

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 08:45

    Morning all. :)

    Hi Lou! How are you?

  • Amy14/08/2009 at 08:46

I once made a nesting box for a penguin. I would like to think I could put on mine something to do with helping the penguin population increase.

I fear for when Katherine learns to drive. I have seen the way she drives a shopping trolly. She will be told off for creeping up the speed limit.

  • lou14/08/2009 at 09:02

hehe :) I either get 'remind me what's the limit here again?' or 'we're not going too fast here are we?' my instructor always makes me laugh when he call postman vans 'posty vans' hehe :)

    why am I watching DTM?

  • Journeyer14/08/2009 at 09:39

Time to be Joe's RSS feed again. :D

    Todt talks about his campaign

I find these two bits from Todt interesting:

Your opponent has proposed to change the FIA voting system to give more votes to the biggest clubs with the largest membership. Do you think the voting system of the FIA should be changed in this way?

"I don't agree with this idea at all. It would concentrate power and decision-making in the FIA in the hands of a just a few mobility clubs that have large memberships simply because they happen to exist in countries with large populations. That would be unfair and undemocratic.

A fair point, but Max also used the current system (of favoring the many poor countries) to perpetuate his stay in power. I guess we shouldn't criticize the system - whatever system is there, a corrupt man would find a way to abuse it. Rather, we should criticize the man in power.

Will you be meeting the teams and drivers?

"The GPDA have invited me to meet with them and I am very pleased to accept their invitation. I look forward to the opportunity to talk with them when I visit a forthcoming Grand Prix...

Interesting that Todt has mentioned this. Would FOTA do the same?

    It's not a fair point.

Max's excuse is that it's more democratic to have more clubs to give automobile clubs more power.

These clubs exist to serve their members. The clubs with the most members should get the most votes. That's the most democratic system.

  • Amy14/08/2009 at 09:44

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 09:52

Max's excuse is that it's more democratic to have more clubs to give automobile clubs more power.

I agree with both of them,

Max's system is very UK politics i.e each constiuency gets 1 seat for an MP, but ARI's is more USA politics where each state gets a different amount of electoral votes. I'm not sure which i prefer.

  • Amy14/08/2009 at 09:52

3 months. It was out of my head for three months.

muhaha. I still find myself singing the Azerbaijan song at random times for no reason.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 09:52

Kind of like the Eurovision Song Contest.

    Absolutely.

To be fair to Max... And you know how much it pains me to do this... But most democracies have a check on the powers to avoid gerrymandering* (not something that's likely to happen as we're talking about countries)

So for example in America they have the electoral college system. Everyone votes for the president but based on population each state gets a certain number of representatives who vote the way the people in their state voted. This is to stop small states from feeling disenfranchised.

In the UK we don't vote for our prime minister at all but instead vote for our local MP, and our MPs decide who their leader is.

*redrawing borders to get more votes

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 09:53

Max's system is very UK politics i.e each constiuency gets 1 seat for an MP, but ARI's is more USA politics where each state gets a different amount of electoral votes. I'm not sure which i prefer.

We were clearly on the same wavelength.

I think that as there isn't the same problem because gerrymandering is impossible here.

  • Journeyer14/08/2009 at 09:55

These clubs exist to serve their members. The clubs with the most members should get the most votes. That’s the most democratic system.

But you could also say that Germany, for example, will never have as many members as India, because of their natural population. Would you take that against Germany? You could also argue, for example - say a Papua New Guinea had a significant concern where it was supported by other small countries. But the bigger countries don't want it - they can block it during the vote because of their sheer size.

Perhaps what's needed here is a 2-house solution - one where the number of representatives is based on the sizes of the federations, and one where everyone has the same number of representatives regardless of size.

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 09:55

So for example in America they have the electoral college system. Everyone votes for the president but based on population each state gets a certain number of representatives who vote the way the people in their state voted. This is to stop small states from feeling disenfranchised.

    Democracy is very confusing.

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 09:57

We were clearly on the same wavelength.

I think if we didn't have Max around at the moment then i'd stick with his system, but i think some of the clubs are too biased at the moment, so prefer Ari's.....but i'm still not 100%

  • Journeyer14/08/2009 at 09:57

I’M IN LOOOOVE WITH A FAIRYTAAAAAAALE

    Hahahahaha! :D

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 09:58

I’M IN LOOOOVE WITH A FAIRYTAAAAAAALE

yeeyyy, i found it on spotify, now i can listen to it all day :D

  • Journeyer14/08/2009 at 09:59

    Democracy is very confusing.

As Churchill said, it's the worst form of government... except for all the others.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 09:59

Perhaps what's needed here is a 2-house solution - one where the number of representatives is based on the sizes of the federations, and one where everyone has the same number of representatives regardless of size.

    That sounds ideal really.

I still think there is a point to be made that a small country that has no racing history's vote should have less importance than say America.

However I can see the other side which I suppose says that if the smaller countries want to get races they could be permanently disenfranchised.

  • Journeyer14/08/2009 at 10:05

Going home soon - came in at 10 this morning. But I still have to work when I get home - until 10 this evening.

    Arrrrgh. I hate doing double-shifts.

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 10:08

I see that silly Herbert man has taken Franck's place on the Autosport homepage.

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 10:09

I see that silly Herbert man has taken Franck's place on the Autosport homepage.

Francks more important, Herbert's news isn't even a story, we new it was going to happen, it was just a case of when. Silly man :P

  • Jeremy14/08/2009 at 10:11

Jon is very sleepy today and is going to be doing such jobs as; wedding, making an ipod work, backing up filrd.

I'm not sure what 'backing up filrd' is? Wake up Jon!

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 10:13

I'm not sure what 'backing up filrd' is? Wake up Jon!

oooh, im not sure what backing up filrd is either, i think it should be backing up files! whoopppss

  • Jeremy14/08/2009 at 10:14

oooh, im not sure what backing up filrd is either, i think it should be backing up files! whoopppss

I think I'm tired too. I looked at the keys on the keyboard and still couldn't work out that you meant files. Brain fail!

  • Journeyer14/08/2009 at 10:15

oooh, im not sure what backing up filrd is either, i think it should be backing up files! whoopppss

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 10:16

jon was typing a bit to the right, I think. ;)

    i think so :D

to be fair, i was typing with one hand and not paying too much attention, laptop on bin + jon in bed = words that dont make sense!!

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 10:19

So, I don't read this blog normally, but I see they have the predecessor of the Sidepodhappyplace/daily post idea.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/pm/2009/08/the_beach_121.shtml

Beaches. Hmm. That sounds like a good plan!

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 10:20

I think twitter is confused, my tweet "just made it onto the Baltimore Cournal" which is fine, but when i looked for what exactly that meant it said "The Cournal shows you interesting tweets written by people in your city, about your city."....

    a) it thinks im in Baltimore

    and more importantly..

    b) how on earth is "I need to buy aloooooooooooot of cling film today :)" an interesting tweet about balitmore?!?!?

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 10:21

    Also, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7L2fsubA2-c

    tis quite genius :D

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 10:22

    a) it thinks im in Baltimore

    and more importantly..

    b) how on earth is "I need to buy aloooooooooooot of cling film today :)" an interesting tweet about balitmore?!?!?

    :)

Perhaps Baltimore is the cling film capital of the world?

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 10:22

Perhaps Baltimore is the cling film capital of the world?

    potentially...

  • Journeyer14/08/2009 at 10:23

Beaches. Hmm. That sounds like a good plan!

Will your daily post have pictures of beaches now? :D

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 10:23

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 10:24

Will your daily post have pictures of beaches now? :D

Might have to! Never thought of putting pictures in the daily really, except for those special occasions.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 10:25

    potentially...

As I'm sure you know they don't even call it cling film in the states but instead plastic wrap.

    http://www.industrialwrap.com/

    Is based in Baltimore.

    The defence rests your honour.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 10:25

Might have to! Never thought of putting pictures in the daily really, except for those special occasions.

There have even been occasions when Franck has been mentioned in the daily and still no pictures!

  • Amy14/08/2009 at 10:26

As I'm sure you know they don't even call it cling film in the states but instead plastic wrap.

I call it glad wrap :D

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 10:29

    Is based in Baltimore.

    well then, wadya know :D

however, it does beg the question.....why do they think im in Baltmore...im very far from there...

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 10:31

I'm hungry. Is it time to start talking about food yet?

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 10:31

I call it glad wrap :D

    I'm glad.

I am slightly scared that this sentence makes sense to you:

"I am going to glad wrap some happy cheese"

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 10:32

I'm hungry. Is it time to start talking about food yet?

Oh dang, I'd just been putting that thought off!

  • Amy14/08/2009 at 10:32

"I am going to glad wrap some happy cheese"

You may have overestimated me. What on earth is happy cheese?

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 10:32

I'm hungry. Is it time to start talking about food yet?

I was just thinking about food, so i think so :)

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 10:33

You may have overestimated me. What on earth is happy cheese?

I thought you said it. What is it? Yummy cheese?

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 10:34

We'll have had two meals and Mr C isn't even up yet!

  • Amy14/08/2009 at 10:34

I thought you said it. What is it? Yummy cheese?

    ohhh tasty cheese?

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 10:34

    ohhh tasty cheese?

    That's it!

Quick glad wrap the tasty cheese.

    Madness :)

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 10:35

We'll have had two meals and Mr C isn't even up yet!

Haha. Just one for me. But then it's always like that :)

  • Amy14/08/2009 at 10:35

    Madness :)

whoever said we speak the same language :D

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 10:38

Haha. Just one for me. But then it's always like that :)

    No breakfast?

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 10:40

    No breakfast?

Nah. I can't eat before 10, and by then it's almost lunchtime.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 10:42

Nah. I can't eat before 10, and by then it's almost lunchtime.

I used to be like that, and then I started getting up for work at 5:30 in the morning and so breakfast was then a sensible option. I'm not sure it's been a good thing for me.

  • Amy14/08/2009 at 10:43

Nah. I can't eat before 10, and by then it's almost lunchtime.

I have the opposite problem, I ate my tea too early and now I'm hungry again.

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 10:47

I have the opposite problem, I ate my tea too early and now I'm hungry again.

    Lukeh would advise toast, probably.

  • RG14/08/2009 at 10:50

Sky man has arrived, so far, he doesn't look like god.

  • Amy14/08/2009 at 10:50

    Lukeh would advise toast, probably.

ooh sounds good. Although I have no butter and I can hear four people currently in my kitchen so I couldn't get away with smuggling someone elses.

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 10:52

Sky man has arrived, so far, he doesn't look like god.

You will probably change your opinion if he manages to fix it though :)

    Good point.

  • RG14/08/2009 at 10:58

Bad thing is I can't watch tv. Good thing is I get to see Wallace and Gromit enjoying a nice cuppa tea.

I like the idea of measuring things in terms of elephants.

  • Paul14/08/2009 at 11:06

I thought you said it. What is it? Yummy cheese?

hehe. I will never be able to take tasty cheese seriously again

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 11:07

I like the idea of measuring things in terms of elephants.

    It's good.

Wasn't there a genius suggestion about a guy who wanted have a standard set of things to compare things to. I think for size of area he wanted to use the country wales.

  • Paul14/08/2009 at 11:07

    You took it seriously before?

    Its a crazy name.

    Seat Leon's are smallish

BMW 320i's are normal saloon size, as are Vauxhall's.

they look smaller than they are

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 11:10

Good to see they still smash each other out of the way though

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 11:11

RIght. I am going out for lunch. Thank you, everyone, for keeping me entertained so the morning flew by.

More of the same later, pls.

    Um. It's quicker to say?

  • me14/08/2009 at 11:11

the most annoying car prank ever done on me was when I used to take my mini to school and people would pick it up and move it to a different parking space. My dad was furious when he found out because apparently it can bend the axles.

    wha??

  • Paul14/08/2009 at 11:15

How is tasty short for that?

apparently it's just tasty cheddar. As opposed to that other cheddar with no taste I guess

fair enough, mine seems to have disapeared too, my driving lesson flew by so quickly today

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 11:39

I wasnt planning on using it to write a novel, no :P

I wrote a lot of my novel on my iPhone and it doesn't have a real keyboard. The lack of a real keyboard at first made typing slower for me, and in the end made it faster.

I can touch type with the keyboard in the portrait mode for example.

  • me14/08/2009 at 11:39

fair enough, mine seems to have disapeared too, my driving lesson flew by so quickly today

you survived again? this is going far too well.

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 11:39

    is this the one

Yes although the rest of the world is calling it the HTC touch.

I dont know how they are calling it the G2 as it is supposed to be the first Android phone without google branding, due to the 'htc sense' which has been added on to it

  • me14/08/2009 at 11:40

Yes although the rest of the world is calling it the HTC touch.

orange are calling it the 'hero'. am so confused.

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 11:40

    g1 is a big brand, i guess.

  • Paul14/08/2009 at 11:41

  • me14/08/2009 at 11:41

    lies!!

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 11:42

  • me14/08/2009 at 11:42

Is there a way to combine all the different services? I mean can I qik onto justin?

    :)

    no.

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 11:42

I wrote a lot of my novel on my iPhone and it doesn't have a real keyboard. The lack of a real keyboard at first made typing slower for me, and in the end made it faster.

I struggle to have my typing keep up with my thoughts when i write big things. I think i would really struggle to write on a laptop let alone a pda!

  • lou14/08/2009 at 11:43

you survived again? this is going far too well.

hehe i know, yesterday's went well too. only problem today was with traffic lights, silly things. i was alright till the town ring road when i just got a little spooked. best thing was when my instructor was chatting to me and mentioned how when some people learn to drive they need something like a blow torch when parking... i just giggled :D

  • Paul14/08/2009 at 11:43

? I mean can I qik onto justin?

Well I might not want to use qik the whole time. Maybe I should have both?

  • me14/08/2009 at 11:49

    amazing.

i don't see how though? there's no tactile feedback?

  • me14/08/2009 at 11:49

couldn't hurt. both free to set up.

you've clearly given this a lot of thought...

hahaha, love how easy it is to prove a point these days!

  • Paul14/08/2009 at 11:49

Very clever. Unless there were monkeys down there typing for you

  • lou14/08/2009 at 11:50

    It's not a lie... here's the proof! :)

    wow!

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 11:51

Really? thats quite supprising. I find the iphone keyboard hard to use

    It's a practice thing. Honestly.

A lot of people get discouraged and choose the landscape one. And then do half their typing in one and half in the other.

Annoyingly I find that landscape often works better for doohicky because of a larger font, but then I have to change back to portrait to type more quickly.

The most annoying thing is I have to remember to switch before I press "Post Comment", because once the comment box is open it's locked in whatever mode you're in.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 11:51

I struggle to have my typing keep up with my thoughts when i write big things. I think i would really struggle to write on a laptop let alone a pda!

I can type faster than I can handwrite.

  • Amy14/08/2009 at 11:51

    wha??

only takes 4 men to lift a mini!

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 11:52

I can type faster than I can handwrite.

This means your handwriting is A) Too Neat B) Legible :P

  • lou14/08/2009 at 11:52

i'm off out into the real world. i'm going to have lunch with a friend, have a hair cut, and then i should be home... then again i'm not sure if i'm off to the cinema after... so i suppose i'll be back when i'm back, providing the outside doesn't get me first...

  • Amy14/08/2009 at 11:53

I didn't manage to smuggle butter but instead I got force fed (force drank?) some rose (I still don't like wine) and had a boogie to some 90s music because it appears my flatmate is on her way out.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 11:54

i don't see how though? there's no tactile feedback?

You don't need the tactile feedback really. You know where all the keys are and when you hold it you are keeping your thumbs in the same position.

Normally of course I don't not look at the screen although I can if I'm copying something down, or walking. But it leaves me free to look at the text area so I can see the sense of what I'm writing. This is why I touchtype on a keyboard anyway.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 11:54

This means your handwriting is A) Too Neat B) Legible :P

    c) I type really fast

:D I've started calling her James because we got a letter adressed to James instead of Jamee today. I think she was too drunk to notice. (We are Jamee + Amy. Rhyming names are FUN)

ahh the difference is the bars don't have free internet, the pubs do. I am a pub person, not a bar person, and they are going to bars so I am not going :D I hate bars. Hate. Haaaaate.

they are the sort of places where you have to dress up and pile on a pound of makeup to be let in, then you have to pay the $20 cover charge, you can't move inside for the sheer number of people, the music is doof doof awful, and the drinks are $20 each (hi my name is Amy and I am a 50 year old inside a 23 year olds body)

Hehe, i can just picture a bouncer going 'thats not enough make up luv, try again' :P

I am familiar with such places, There are a lot of them in Dubai, yuppies love them. Its all about being seen to be there... I am definatly a pub person too, i dont even mind a loud pub like a walkabout... but pretencious bars are ridiculous. they seem to have a massive fascination with what shoes you are wearing despite the fact they are ususaly so packed there is 0% of anyone catching a fleeting glance of what you are wearing

nah, I didn't even see them during the race weekend. They stuck a few stickers and signs up on some of the fences a few weeks prior, but that was all I saw.

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 12:30

when christine returns, can she explain what makes the g2 desirable, when it doesn't even have a real keyboard? thanx.

    It looks nicer.

That is the extent of my research.

I like real keyboards but I think they are falling by the wayside, so I gots to come to terms with that.

Also to take that photo wouldn't one of their members had to have bought a ticket and endorse the event?

especially since those photos were taken in the only part of the circuit that is grandstand access only so they couldn't even get in there on a cheap ticket. I just learned they have a radio show every Monday. I should listen to it, because I'm not sure exactly how they'd have enough news to cover every week of the year.

The quiz is wrong, though, cos pandas are bears and not raccoons. They used to be raccoons but then they changed.

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 13:01

Ooooh, Wikipedia has a list of pandas in zoos. This will help Mr C and his iPhone app.

Stupid wrong quiz. I just changed all my answers until it was right and then checked my score - to spite it!

Thing is, it tells you the answers as you go along, and then asks you to check your score. So not only is it wrong, but it also thinks you can't count as well!

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 13:33

I have no idea what was happening. I saw shorts from two different angles.

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 13:33

I can live stream my KFC?

  • me14/08/2009 at 13:33

    Ahh! They exist!

  • me14/08/2009 at 13:34

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 13:34

but would you be able to watch it all at the same time, i mean? can your bandwidth handle loading all that?

Mr C can't manage to talk and type at the same time. He is not watching a wall of video. I don't think it is for our benefit.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 13:34

    twas a bit dark :(

    Sorry about that!

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 13:35

Coming now... Have found a bug with Qik

If your phone locks then it drops the wifi connection. When you unlock the wifi comes back. But qik doesn't realise the wifi has come back and so it sits there waiting. You have to quit and come back in.

    It's up now

  • Amy14/08/2009 at 13:37

    live streaming needs movable boxes.

    well, its your pool :P

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 13:37

on a techie front, the ustream video was better quality and ahead. but it had ads at the bottom.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)14/08/2009 at 14:05

Beer O' clock at work ... today we have Hungarian sausage and Palinka!

I preferred justin because ustream was so dark I couldn't see most of what was happening.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 14:07

on a techie front, the ustream video was better quality and ahead. but it had ads at the bottom.

The ustream camera is the built in MacBook one rather than the logitech one...

I started the ustream one both times

However the ustream was coming over wifi to the router so it's impressive it was ahead.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 14:07

I preferred justin because ustream was so dark I couldn't see most of what was happening.

I need to sort out the light. There is so much light coming in the window at the moment that it's really an unfair comparison that was going on.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 14:08

There were some lurkers even for that 27 views apparently according to JustinTV

  • me14/08/2009 at 14:09

I need to sort out the light. There is so much light coming in the window at the moment that it's really an unfair comparison that was going on.

what you need are studio lights and close the curtains.

sadly you can't control the sun.

  • Maverick14/08/2009 at 14:12

I'm having great fun watching Made-Up Media struggle to find their promised 10-20 stories a day this week. Yesterday they scraped home with the "news" that Le Seb was sacked by text and today they're doing their bit for the environment by recycling old news. They still need to find six more "stories" from somewhere.

"F1 cars to have a wheel on each corner again in 2010"?

Are you telling me that global warming is a hoax and that the real reason the arctic ice sheet is retreating is because of careless hot beverage management by the indigenous wildlife?

Most of the videos I make all feature the signature "ARE YOU FILMING?" shout from my Wife. She thinks it's amusing, I think revenge is a dish best served cold.

I got my current one just after Vista came out and the prices didn't seem any different to when XP was around. I need to make this one last me until February when it will officially be three years old because my first laptop made it to three years as well :D

we have one of these for holding the itouch during f1 sessions:

in the uk, about £21 i think.

anything that's light and has a flat bit.

how do they connect? is it magnetic?

  • Amy14/08/2009 at 15:22

probably worth a shot then, without hinges there appears to be a lot of stress on the wires between the body and the screen, i'd hate for them to break :(

The test drivers where: Badoer, Gene, Wurz, and Zonta. Seems like after 8 years, race fans finally got their wish.

just discovered a rather embarrassing bbc f1 fail.

darren heaths f1 big picture from hungary can bee seen here, and his explanation reads (emphasis/linkage mine):

"When framing such a shot it is of paramount importance to have in mind the rule of thirds... With the rule etched in my mind from an early age, I see almost everything through an imaginary grid. This study of Lewis Hamilton perfectly illustrating the rule's fundamentals."

so i'm looking at the picture thinking... lewis doesn't hit any of the intersecting points as darren suggests. he of all people cannot have got that wrong. maybe i have?

then i checked out the same picture on darren's site, and it's a completely different aspect ratio (16:9, not 4:3) and lewis does hit the expected top right intersection (just).

so the bbc must have cropped the image after darren gave it to them, to the point that his entire explanation looks completely inaccurate, and makes him look a little clueless.

    a right royal bbc fail.

    watch the video top left. i’m sold {Comment #15}

I'll wait and hope the real thing isn't as blurry. To be honest, I don't think I'll have a use for it even then, but if the clarity is the same level as the video it'll be completely unusable to me. This is where a backlight - or real ink - helps. Backlights can compensate for small fonts and iffy screens and ink tends to blue in more natural ways, which at least enables guesswork as to what was written.

How does one travell from spaghetti to yoghurt without going thru movies ?

Spaghetti ==> Spaghetti Western ==> Western ==> Movies like Westerns in different places ==> Star Wars ==> Star Wars Spoofs ==> Spaceballs ==> Yogurt !

The premise. A Farm boy hooks up with a Gunslinger to rescue the girl from the bad guys.

Star Wars is just a Western type movie that just set in space. Just like great westerns are copies of Great Samurai movies which take their plots from Shakespeare's plays believe or not.

    No RSS feed! {Comment #875}

It's got two RSS feeds - the trouble is that neither of them works properly and therefore they only work on some readers.

I think I've narrowed down the coding problem with the built-in RSS feed (a missing /channel tag), but there doesn't seem to be any way of getting into the HTML to manually fix it. The third-party feed got bought out by Google's inaccessible empire.

When Twitter works, I use that to announce blog entries, but half the time that doesn't load either.

Switching blogging software will only become an option when someone devises a free blogging platform which is accessible to me from the admin side as well as the commenting one. Bizarrely enough, the only one I've found like that is the one I currently use.

The search for an effective solution continues...

    Here's a thought I had over training.

With 24 cars (possibly 26 if BMW are taken over) next year, will qualifying change? As in say an extra session added or will more cars be knocked out in the first two rounds. Its something I haven't heard about yet.

Blogger's system is such that I frequently can't even comment, let alone admin a blog, because the CAPTCHA is virtually unreadable to me and the audio version is worse.

Wordpress's admin side is something I can't get my head around. Especially since the help files don't even stay in place long enough for me to read them (they go back to the top of the page approximately every 10 seconds and I have no idea why).

  • me14/08/2009 at 21:13

Whats spotify and do i need it?

the future of the music industry.

    or

the next big thing until the next big thing.

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 21:13

Whats spotify and do i need it?

Program to stream music on internet, like itunes but you can only listen to it on your computer, not download it.

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 21:13

the future of the music industry.

    what he said!

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 21:14

Great? I hear apple doesnt like it, but it works on android and gives you free music?

  • me14/08/2009 at 21:15

    what he said!

at least, that's what the music industry wants.

christine loves it and is trying to convince me it's better than last.fm.

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 21:15

Great? I hear apple doesnt like it, but it works on android and gives you free music?

Apple dont like it because if you want to buy the songs on spotify it links you to 7digital and not itunes

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 21:15

christine loves it and is trying to convince me it's better than last.fm.

not sure if its better, but i find it easier to use

i'm not sure that's true? i know that their iphone app breaks apples TOS, but i don't think apple have said they're evil?

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 21:20

Last.fm is sending me in circles, it wont actualy let me listen to anything, but it does seem to want me to read about the band... so i will try spotify

  • me14/08/2009 at 21:20

Doesnt... not allowed in our app store = Evil company hates you?

    sadly not.

if said developer doesn't read the TOS before starting development, it's their own tough luck if they never get approved. even i know spotify won't get through and i didn't take the time to write it.

i suspect they only did it for the PR, and sadly it's worked a treat (bbc fell for it hook line and sinker).

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 21:21

Last.fm is sending me in circles, it wont actualy let me listen to anything, but it does seem to want me to read about the band... so i will try spotify

Great? I hear apple doesnt like it, but it works on android and gives you free music?

Well, might as well give it a whirl.

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 21:22

Last.fm is sending me in circles, it wont actualy let me listen to anything, but it does seem to want me to read about the band... so i will try spotify

Their recent redesign is a bit tricky.

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 21:23

    Apple don't like it?

Apple dont like it because when you click on "buy song" it sends you to 7digital download store, not itunes. Which is fair enough because not everyone has an ipod/touch/phone

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 21:23

if said developer doesn't read the TOS before starting development, it's their own tough luck if they never get approved. even i know spotify won't get through and i didn't take the time to write it.

Surely its a matter of time untill the EU get involved in the App store and tell Apple to separate their platform and hardware like it did with microsoft and IE?

  • me14/08/2009 at 21:23

Well, might as well give it a whirl.

i prefer last.fm, because i don't have to download anything... and it's an approved app and works on the itouch (and on android).

    spotify is more high maintenance.

  • me14/08/2009 at 21:25

Surely its a matter of time untill the EU get involved in the App store and tell Apple to separate their platform and hardware like it did with microsoft and IE?

depends. apple aren't putting anyone out of business will illegal practices.

they say "you wanna play ball, here are the rules". kinda like us and this blog. we say "you wanna comment, here are the rules". if people don't agree other app stores / f1 blogs are available.

    It does.

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 21:26

i prefer last.fm, because i don't have to download anything... and it's an approved app and works on the itouch (and on android).

But how do you actually listen to anything? It is incredibly un-user friendly.. the help site is just plain confusing! It sent me to hunt for tiny symbols which just dont exist!

  • me14/08/2009 at 21:26

Apple dont like it because when you click on "buy song" it sends you to 7digital download store, not itunes. Which is fair enough because not everyone has an ipod/touch/phone

songs bought on the itunes store can be played elsewhere. there is no DRM. they will play on any device that supports m4a, and even dropio will convert them.

  • me14/08/2009 at 21:27

But how do you actually listen to anything? It is incredibly un-user friendly.. the help site is just plain confusing! It sent me to hunt for tiny symbols which just dont exist!

  • Scott Woodwiss14/08/2009 at 21:28

I can vouch for Spotify. While I still use iTunes for buying music for the iPhone, I like to use Spotify for music on my laptop. Simple interface and it's very easy to build playlists.

  • me14/08/2009 at 21:28

But surely have just said Explorer is an extension of windows, if you dont like it buy a mac?

microsoft did say that. sadly it was a lie and proved to be a lie in court.

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 21:29

songs bought on the itunes store can be played elsewhere. there is no DRM. they will play on any device that supports m4a, and even dropio will convert them.

thats fair enough, but some people don't have ones that will accept itunes store songs, me for example, my creative zen wont take them, so i have to burn them onto a cd, then burn them off using real player to make them mp3's

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 21:29

But how do you actually listen to anything? It is incredibly un-user friendly.. the help site is just plain confusing! It sent me to hunt for tiny symbols which just dont exist!

They put the play button in the silliest place!

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 21:30

I dont see how thats different to apple preventing any software which competes with their own on the iphone though?

  • me14/08/2009 at 21:30

thats fair enough, but some people don't have ones that will accept itunes store songs, me for example, my creative zen wont take them, so i have to burn them onto a cd, then burn them off using real player to make them mp3's

m4a is audio within an mp4 container. it's an open standard, apple didn't invent it and any manufacturer can choose to support it. i don't have a zen, but won't itunes convert it to mp3 for you without going via CD?

  • me14/08/2009 at 21:31

They put the play button in the silliest place!

it may do, that would be helpful if it does, i had a quick look but couldnt find anything, but that was a while back.

  • me14/08/2009 at 21:33

I dont see how thats different to apple preventing any software which competes with their own on the iphone though?

microsoft changed the game when it suited them, they moved the goalposts to screw over netscape and others. the app store has been upfront about what's allowed from the off.

no-one has to invest time into developing apps if they don't want to. i haven't for example. netscape built the web browser and then microsoft screwed them.

  • me14/08/2009 at 21:34

it may do, that would be helpful if it does, i had a quick look but couldnt find anything, but that was a while back.

haven't tried it myself tbh. it may be different on a mac anyhow. m4a is just a file format, you need the right decoder to listen, that's all.

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 21:34

"Except for iTunes Plus songs, you can't convert iTunes Store purchases."

    I think this means i can't?

  • me14/08/2009 at 21:35

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 21:36

ahh yeah. i'd put money on the record execs insisting, but who knows?

to be honest, its not hard to burn on and off a cd, its a faff but i dont mind it. i'll go where ever's cheapest.

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 21:36

no-one has to invest time into developing apps if they don't want to. i haven't for example. netscape built the web browser and then microsoft screwed them.

  • me14/08/2009 at 21:37

possibly. worse, i just think developers will steer clear, or go elsewhere.

Evening All, my film suggestion is Australia, it's epic, sad but beautifully filmed.

It also includes a sequal after you think the main feature has finished :P

  • me14/08/2009 at 22:04

So are we going to try this three way live thing then Mr C?

oooh. that might mess up my social experiment...

    but yes, lets!

  • Steven Roy14/08/2009 at 22:04

I don't think Mr C has thought this through at all. Now we have a whole list of suggestions... none of which includes Die Hard.

Were we supposed to suggest Die Hard?

  • RG14/08/2009 at 22:05

I don't think Mr C has thought this through at all. Now we have a whole list of suggestions... none of which includes Die Hard.

Are you suggesting my suggestions are not good enough?

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 22:05

Were we supposed to suggest Die Hard?

Ooh, that's a good idea! Well done Steven.

  • me14/08/2009 at 22:06

Ooh, that's a good idea! Well done Steven.

    grrrr!

  • Steven Roy14/08/2009 at 22:06

Ooh, that's a good idea! Well done Steven.

    Blame me

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 22:06

I already suggested Die Hard the other week

I would like to suggest die hard again..

I watched it the other week and it was great.

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 22:06

    grrrr!

Maybe I go watch Die Hard while you mess about with Alex.

  • me14/08/2009 at 22:07

Maybe I go watch Die Hard while you mess about with Alex.

i'm not sure how to answer that.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 22:07

Maybe I go watch Die Hard while you mess about with Alex.

Mr C even said the other week that you had to put Die Hard 1 and 2 on your list but not 3 or 4. Which is wrong but what he said (from memory)

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 22:07

i'm not sure how to answer that.

    :)

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 22:08

Mr C even said the other week that you had to put Die Hard 1 and 2 on your list but not 3 or 4. Which is wrong but what he said (from memory)

    Mr C is often wrong.

  • Steven Roy14/08/2009 at 22:08

So are we going to try this three way live thing then Mr C?

Surely this one is more difficult to answer?

  • me14/08/2009 at 22:09

    Mr C is often wrong.

go ahead, pick on the little guy.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 22:09

Surely this one is more difficult to answer?

    :)

I am live now I think!

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 22:09

Question to Christine....do you call Mr C by his "actual" name (bearing in mind that we know he dosent have a 'real' name, he was born called Mr C, but the question remains)...

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 22:09

go ahead, pick on the little guy.

    little guy!

  • me14/08/2009 at 22:09

I am live now I think!

    what????

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 22:10

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 22:10

Question to Christine....do you call Mr C by his "actual" name (bearing in mind that we know he dosent have a 'real' name, he was born called Mr C, but the question remains)...

Very rarely. I actually did today and it felt odd. Mr C works much better.

  • RG14/08/2009 at 22:10

go ahead, pick on the little guy.

I'm sure Heidfeld gets it a lot, but you on the other hand, by eye witness accounts...

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 22:11

Spotify has music from musicals...this could get embarrasing!

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 22:11

Very rarely. I actually did today and it felt odd. Mr C works much better.

Awesome, that makes Jon happy :D

  • RG14/08/2009 at 22:11

Spotify has music from musicals...this could get embarrasing!

It also has a lot of stuff from U... the band i kinda like.

  • Jon Waldock14/08/2009 at 22:11

Spotify has music from musicals...this could get embarrasing!

See, on last.fm we could see what you're listening too, but on spotify, we cant, its a win win

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 22:11

Spotify has music from musicals...this could get embarrasing!

Hehehe. I have that same problem!

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 22:13

I'm just practicing to get things right

So I have stopped practicing now...

Let me know when / if you are ready.

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 22:13

    What?

In preferences, you can link Spotify and Last.fm, so it lets everyone know what you're listening to.

  • me14/08/2009 at 22:13

Let me know when / if you are ready.

    go!

  • RG14/08/2009 at 22:14

In preferences, you can link Spotify and Last.fm, so it lets everyone know what you're listening to.

Lets just leave it as it is I reckon.

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 22:14

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 22:14

hahaha... you might need a detective!

  • RG14/08/2009 at 22:14

    what's your last.fm account url?

Is there a wiki page for last.fm accounts?

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 22:14

I am commenting on Mr C's behalf. He says he has both streams working.

  • Christine14/08/2009 at 22:15

  • Steven Roy14/08/2009 at 22:19

Weird... As I said earlier ustream is coming over the wifi.

As a quick test if anyone can stoumach it how about I do it again swapping justin and ustream?

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 22:24

Justin was ahead of Ustream for me, went a bit unstable at the end.

Qik Useless... but it is more practical in real world

  • Janna14/08/2009 at 22:24

Qik is really slow in comparison to the other two, I found Justin the fastest but Ustream was not far behind

  • me14/08/2009 at 22:24

As a quick test if anyone can stoumach it how about I do it again swapping justin and ustream?

  • Janna14/08/2009 at 22:34

Justin is doing absolutely nothing for me. I just have a paused picture.

Same here, am getting Ustream on IE & Safari, Qik on Safari only & no justin on either. Great echo trying to run 6 streams!

  • Steven Roy14/08/2009 at 22:34

ustream just closed. I now have no feeds working

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 22:34

  • Steven Roy14/08/2009 at 22:38

Is it possible for somone else to go on Qik and try to have a conversation?

That is where this is going to end up. Massive sidepodargument on multiple feeds.

  • Nick14/08/2009 at 22:38

Qik is ahead of ustream for me now?

  • Alianora La Canta14/08/2009 at 22:38

    What cant you do? I had never blogged before using it, but it seemed pretty straight forward to create a new post and approve comments? The spam filter seems to be really effective as well… {Comment #1024}

I struggle to find anything whatsoever on the Wordpress site. When I eventually found the "Help" pages, they jumped back to the top of the page every 10 seconds. That means I can't even use the site well enough to sign up for a blog, let alone attempt to do anything with it.

My current blog was largely set up by my co-admin (and had to be because he hosts the space on which it lives) and the final part of set-up required one form filling in. There is a limit as to how much complexity I can handle in things like form-filling (I got given a two-page course evaluation form this afternoon and ended up leaving half of it blank because I couldn't see how to answer the questions).

Entry production is a question of logging in, going to my blog, pressing "New Entry", typing the entry and pressing "Submit". There is no messing around with comments approval (because it doesn't even have that function). I could do with a spam clearance tool, though.

  • me14/08/2009 at 22:38

ustream ads are really annoying though.

  • Steven Roy14/08/2009 at 22:38

    Hi Jeremy

you should do what others do and leave a comment here whenever you update. or get journeyer to be your unofficial joe feed rss feed.

    without some form of rss though, i fear that long term, you’ll struggle to get the audience you deserve. to me that’s worth finding an alternate platform, whatever the effort invloved. {Comment #1056}

I usually do leave a comment here, and when it loads for me I Twitter as well. The response is hit-and-miss.

When someone devises an alternate blogging platform I can actually use, then I can consider using it. Until then I'm pretty much stuck with what I've got, unless a way can be found to bypass the CMS and manually repair the built-in RSS feed.

  • startledbunny14/08/2009 at 22:46

You can see my lack of taste :P

  • Alex Andronov14/08/2009 at 22:59

I can't seem to find the ustream app.

However I have discovered something annoying in that even if I was, somehow, to get a data connection on that phone both apps stop you from broadcasting on Edge and only support 3G. I know that makes sense really, but I only wanted to try it out. Grrr!

  • RG14/08/2009 at 22:59

Embarrasing moment, was just about to complain that time time has went all funny, going from 00:13 to ahem, 1:30. Until I realised those were the minutes and seconds bit.
