It is that day of the week again, but we'll pretend it isn't and maybe it'll be a good day anyway. Apparently it is also International Lefthanders Day, in which we celebrate those who use their left hands and recognise the inconveniences of a dominant right-handed world. According to Wikipedia anyway. Here's what we're talking about:
- F1 Wolf has a great post pondering the future shape of the grid, with a rundown of which teams might be running which drivers in 2010. It is such a relief to be thinking of things like this, rather than whether F1 has a future at all. My favourite Wolf predictions are the Campos and Manor ones.
- Maverick has written another graph-laden post on the Pitlane Fanatic blog. You know we like our graphs. This time he's reviewing the team's progress so far this year, with part one completed and part two coming soon. (I hope!)
- Today seems like a good day to plug the Music Initiation page on the wiki. It came up in conversation yesterday, with a few people saying they'd missed out on the fun of sharing the first album and the first single they ever bought. Tell us yours, the more embarrassing the better!
That'll do for now. No one mention that it's that day of the week, and we'll all get along fine. Roll on Friday, I say. I'll see you in the comments.
International Left Handers Day Y'say?
Famous left hander is Ned Flanders
A person who looks like Ned Flanders is Mario Thiessen
Therefore, I predict a good weekend at Valencia for BMW.
define good
A point or more.
Damn. I was hoping for removal of that ugly nose.
Sidepodspace might like this gravity game

Wait wait wait, since when is it a new day?!?!
It's be 9 hours, 15 minutes here.
I can see I have a new toy to waste a lot of time on
Isn't a certain Mr Smedley left handed?
Sorr Mr C for the ?
so it's really Rob Smedley day?
im left handed too :(
Steven lost his y?
WHYYYYYYYY??!!!
I'm getting frustrated with trying to hit 3 satellites on one run
ooh... sorry
i'll try again
so it's Jon and Rob Smedley day?
I know me, I better stay away from it...
But would Chrstine agree with a Rob day?
it's got to be better than plain old Thursday right?
Where did my y go?
Sorr Mr C for the ?
cooool!
1 behind the moon and 2 by earth?
If nassa need someone to work out how to use gravity to reach the speed of light i am their man!
Does every ? need a (Sorry Mr C) now? :P
That's the one, can hit 2 out of 3 then crash somewhere in Kansas
I can safely say with me, it was NASA that caused the destruction of the Amazon.
Full throttle, 54.3 degrees is fun
Thanks to Microsoft, I waste one whole day per month deploying patches.
How do I get that time back Mr Baumer?
http://www.ubuntu.com/
Mutemath's new album Armistice comes out August 18th apparently! :D
One of the songs of the new album - The Nerve
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCObIwPXhbU
Loving the drums and guitar riff in this one :D
Bass ;)
Ah balls...
i'll post this today in today's thread too, cause i'm not sure if people didn't see it or couldn't help me, but i was wondering if anyone has ever heard of, or used, Schumap before? it's something that i've never heard of until this evening.
Well gonna head off. That game is annoying me now. See ya beyond the blue honda,
I love the fact that the first few seconds has the same type of synth or guitar that makes it sound like something from their first, self-titled album and then it goes into this awesomeness of drums and bass guitar :D
see ya RG :)
see ya RG!
Night RG and any other leavers
Haven't heard of it before
Wait, that was music analysis, wasn't it? :D
Absolutely.
Do you mean Schmap? It has no problems with its neck.
There's a song off their first album called Stall Out which makes me think immeadietly of motorsport. Why? First lyric is "Racing...". :D
Which is then quickly followed up by "...on a fault line". This I don't get. Who races on an area that's susceptible to earthquakes? ;)
*immediately
oh sorry. yes i do.
This? http://www.schmap.com/
yep
okay. i'm trying to work out how popular it is for my own curiosity really. i got an email on flickr today saying they would like one of my photos to be included in the final selection phase for one of their locations, or something along those lines and they were asking me to give permission to include it etc.
No, never used it - I'm rather fond of an old fashioned map and still prefer a compass over GPS
cool, thanks :)
You need to keep a list of anyone who asks to use your photos and urls etc of where they are used. That could be really useful if you do decide to do photography professionally.
oo good idea. i'll make sure i keep the email too.
There is an owl outside...
This is not good
close the window?
You need to set it up like a database table so that if anyone asks what photos you have sold or had used you just print it off. That way they get a professional looking presentation from you.
You should also have a column for your own information that says where people saw yourphotos.
Is it the sidepodowl
Are you recording a podcast?
Its very loud, and too warm to do that...
Hehe, has this been a problem in the past?
It took me ages to figure out level 4 on that stupid game. Hit one space station at the moon then had to go round the Earth and back round the moon to hit the one at the Earth.
oh :( have you asked it to go away?
time for sleep... my eyes are heavy...
goodnight sidepodworld
night Lukeh
that's a very good idea :) thanks Steven
Same here. G'night peeps.
Game?
You don't know about owlgate? Happened on one live show. Then a few weeks later Christine said something about an owl and Mr C had completely forgotten about. Everyone in the comments knew and no-one would tell him.
Night Lukeh
& Scott
I just tweeted, i hope it understands bird :D
From Maverick
Night, i wish i could do the same
:D
:D
I might have worked, it skreeched about a min ago, and i havent head a hoot out of it since :D
Done level 5 yet? I've just managed an unstable parking orbit round the moon
I think its gone.
I am off to bed, hopeing to feel better tomorrow... night all!
No. I have managed several Earth orbits including hitting both stations but not the moon one. And round about 7.7 thrust and -5 degrees gives the weirdest route possible to the moon.
Night Nick
Same! Night alll
Night Jon and Nick
Night Jon
7.5 / 23 is is the permanent lunar parking orbit
11 orbits before the game resets
I'm off to get some sleep, night allx
Night Lou
G'Day everyone.
I don't know if there's any Irish people around here, but if there is, 3-0!
Morning everyone... Catching up from the overnight themes.
It was me at another play last night
and
I have 684 unlistened to podcasts... And 30 days, 7 hours of podcasts. Which means of the ones posted so far I think I have the most podcasts, but not the most unlistened to.
It would appear that I also have 33 days of music in my library as well!!!
I don't know how many unlistened ones I have because I mark them as 'Not New' so they don't get synced to my iTouch. Seeing as I have about 40 on it and I have quite a few on the PC, it must be close to about 100 unlistened...
There are some I listen to regularly, some I save for a rainy day and some that I probably never will...
As for my news feed reader, if I don't check it every 5 minutes, I get 500+ unread items per day :(
Morning, everyone.
If you're not gonna listen to them, why are they still on your PC?
Ouch - that's a lot.
Well I may do, but I'm being pessimistic when I say that I won't...
Thanks for the plug, never noticed last night as I was in the ol' Doohickey. Part Deux graphs are done, probably finish it off tomorrow.
good afternoon everybody. coffee anyone ?
ooops, my comment is in moderation queue
Ahhh. That explains it, then.
What's up today? Looks like it'll be a nice, quiet day. :)
Oooh you Naughty boy!
Morning all.
It's Techno Thursday so I'm bopping along :D
Have found it. An awful lot of links :)
Oh wait, no, sorry, that one was someone elses. Have found Wolf's too now. Not sure why that one was picked up!
I think we are not allowed to discuss coffee :-)
I just made some and it tasted like some sort of horrible chemical :( I blame the cup, I don't think it was washed properly :(
Have just discovered the wiki has a news page where you can pull in feeds from all over and comment on the items.
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/news
I've put a couple in as a test.
mine is good :-)
It was a good plan... I want one now!
:D Coffee with soap? ;)
I am too scared to attempt a second cup in case its as bad as the first :(
Morning Christine... Are you ready for Friday - Part 1?
I am attempting a rebranding :)
I like it. Much better than the alternative. :)
That means it's Friday the 13th Part 1
Help!!!
No it's Friday the 14th Part 1 - Phew
Have you finished being all cultured now or are there more plays on the horizon?
There are two more booked.
Last night's was The Cherry Orchard which was so-so. It did have Simon Russell Beale in it who I could watch reading the phone book - he was faultless as normal. But I wasn't sure about Sam Mendes direction.
Next week we're of to see the Per Kirkeby exhibition at tate modern.
Then we see Arcadia at the Duke of York and Othello with Lenny Henry in it.
Also I'm seeing Drugstore at their comeback gig.
Going to to the Comedy Store.
A food festival.
And the Stirling Moss interviewed by Murray Walker evening.
That's the culture to the end of September :)
Also I'm meeting Nick and Bassano - but I'm not sure they would like me to call that cultured ;)
Don't forget Sidepodradio as well.
I'd love to see how he does in a play!
That will be worth every penny (yes I know it costs a lot of pennies!)
Oh yes! It's all go!
I don't think I've seen a real life play with famous actors in it.
I have always only seen musicals.
The last time I saw a play it was a very bad experience involving a date and unexpected nudity on stage (which was made worse by the 'stage' being an initimate setting and the actor right in front of us... :(
*waves at sidepodworld*
Good morning
Yes, well I am mad of course. I go to a lot of theatre, but I haven't seen that many musicals live (10? 20?).
I go to around 15 plays a year. And have been since around 1996. So it soon adds up.
Can't think who the most famous person I've seen in a play is?
Um, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Kevin Spacey, William H Macy, Kristin Scott Thomas, Michael Gambon, Jeff Goldblum, Zoe Wannamaker, um... Josie Laurence... It's hard trying to remember in abstract like this!
*waves back*
Oh I saw David Suchet and Richard Drayfuss in a play a couple of months ago and I forgot them. So I've definitely forgotten people.
That's still quite a lot! That's probably as many as I've seen, if you don't count dodgy am-dram that I was both in and watched as a youngster.
I am impressed. Do you go to things you know you'll like or do you try anything? The only one I heard of that I thought I might like to see was the one with Stacey from Gavin & Stacey in a while back.
Have you seen Frost/Nixon? Loved the movie, wouldn't mind seeing the play!
I don't know anyone called Stacey?
I missed it sadly.
I saw Hamlet with Doctor Who AND Jean Luc Picard
That's a shame.
:)
Do you know how often I get asked that BTW? Too many times. My parents should have called me Bob :(
*Mind explodes*
But then you might be associated with Bob the Builder. Most names have something attached to them.
That's true. My sister got an Italian name. When I asked the olds why I didn't, they said "Oh we didn't want to give you a name that sounded funny". Yet they chose Gavin :(
I know, it was only short of Princess Leia making an appearance as Ophelia
Which play was that? I think I saw it.
A friend of mine is a theatre director and runs a university class in the states where she brings people across to the UK and they watch 7 plays in 7 days. You get a group buying discount and so I have been going to all of those since it started back in 1996.
And because I don't get to choose the plays during that week that tends to mean that I get a good cross section of things I know.
I'm willing to try most things though. But yeah there is usually something that attracts me. Last night it could have been Simon Russell Beale, that I like The Cherry Orchard (maybe the third time I've seen it), it was directed by Sam Mendes or that it was a new adaptation by Tom Stoppard.
The one on Monday just sounded like an interesting idea for a play.
Are you a Plymouth Fury?
That sounds like what happened when I went to the Roskilde Festival - I went see one band but also saw loads of other random ones which were cool!
*don't know
Basically I'm less adventurous in the rest of the year because somebody else chooses for me for about half of my plays for the year. And that brings in the new out there stuff
For the celebrity list I should just get the cast list of Harry Potter and pick the names from there. I've seen a lot of them on stage. Including a naked Daniel Radcliffe.
With the horse?
I think it must be this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fat_Pig
Because I also like Robert Webb and Kris Marshall as well.
Yes. And Richard Griffiths
Ah yes I didn't see that - wanted to. But I have seen Kris Marshall in something else...
Joe Saward: Disappointment
Will you be sharing opinions on Mr S's work or are you his RSS feed now? :)
You saw Equus? Was it good?
It was... But it was quite tricky to judge because it was the second week of the run. Richard Griffiths had gone down with the 'flu right at the beginning of the run and the understudy had had to be drafted in for opening night no less! He apparently had been on stage with the script still in his hand and so on.
The night I saw it was the first night Richard was back (or I suppose in it at all), which was a bit of an adjustment for everyone. And he still had quite a sound of strong cold in his voice.
But I could see that it was going to be excellent. I think they were a bit off balance that night though.
:D
Well, the moment Schumi called it off, I did wonder if there would be refunds. Thing is - if they open the refund door, will there be many others asking for a refund - especially if Alonso can't race?
I will share an opinon on this piece.
I called my cousin in England on Tuesday night (the day before Mr. S pulled out) to tell him I couldn't join them on their trip to the Italian GP. My cousin (who you may recall is in a family of very one-eyed Ferrari and Schumacher fans who only watch F1 to see Ferrari win and nothing else matters) told me they weren't sure about going and only decided to go because Schumacher was racing.
Oops. :(
I don't think there should be refunds at all to be honest.
Uh-oh. That's a recipe for trouble.
Are there legal grounds for them or for any other aggrieved fan to sue FOM for a refund?
No chance. Most advertising for events would have a terms and conditions saying under what circomstances you'd get a refund. My guess is with Bernie it would only be if the event was cancelled ahead of the day.
From memory there was no official refund from Indy when only 6 cars raced. However from memory Michelin decided to refund people for PR reasons.
Why not? There are a lot of people who watch F1 solely for Schumi, who wouldn't have bought if he wasn't gonna race.
When I went to the local speedway track they used to say that once 5 races (usually out of 20-30) had been run you couldn't get a refund.
Michelin did it for USGP 2005 though didn't they? I think Ferrari should show some sort of gesture to the fans, bur of course they are not obliged to...
A lot of people will feel cheated, though, that they ended up buying F1 tickets to watch someone who won't end up racing after all. Not only are Valencia F1 tickets expensive (more expensive than average, I'd guess), but they also host a boring race.
I'm rather impressed by autosport's ability to turn two tweets into an entire article:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77635
Don't see how it affects the race, why should an event be refunded because of one man? Sure it's Michael Schumacher but no one man is bigger than an entire race no matter his reputation, history or whatever. It's still a race. It'll still have 18/20 cars depending on Renault, and I can't see why Schumacher pulling out would deserve people getting money back.
Perhaps it's my own stubbornness of Schumacher making me think this.
Substitute British Grand Prix, Brawn and Rubens Barrichello into the mix and see how you'd feel?
But it is news though. Well done to them!
So anyone Spanish deserves a refund if Alonso doesn't race then?
I'd still happily go.
Sounds good then :)
But that's normal for any sport, the person you expect to see when you buy the ticket can pick up an injury, a ban or something else... kind of tailed off at the end there
Well I can see my cousins and Uncle cancelling now. I will have to contact them and find out...
Well as I say, I'm impressed - it was effortlessly done
But you could also make the same case for Alonso fans, should he end up not racing. They spend a lot of money because their home hero is there. If he's not, they're not interested anymore. They may seem narrow-minded like that, but there are a lot of people like that.
Today is Chocolate day at work - Yay!
Ah, here's the story I went on autosport to look for:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77638
Piquet lays into Flabio - very funny
I'm not here. I'm working on end of month stock figures.
On the refund.. have these people not heard of eBay? I think refunds are ok up to a point, say a week before the event. Or a partial refund, losing a deposit.
I thought it was yesterday? Gone for Cornish pasty today
What an awesome day. :P
Is it wrong I'm reeeeeeally enjoying watching Flav and Nelson spare it out verbally? :D
Before I bought my tickets I read all 6 pages of this but apparently its "not normal" to read the terms and conditions of everything.
I imagine the European GP had something similar and thus, I'd say no refund mainly due to point 2:
Subject to condition 3 below, Tickets will not be refunded under any circumstances, including but not limited to, the possible non-appearance of any particular person, group or personality (including any performers or bands) expected by the Ticket holder, whether expected to enter an event or not and whether advertised or not, or in the event of any variation to the programs, other conveniences and attractions
No, just a shame it's a bit one-way at the moment ;-)
should add I'm talking about grandstand tickets.
More expensive stuff should carry higher 'penalties' for late cancellation. I speak from experience.
OK Two things - Why do I have to buy the magazine to read the rest of the interview, and secondly, Piquet will never get another job in F1 with all this whinging!
Piquet is laying into Flav again in this week's Autosport:
The Brazilian also claims that more F1 drivers should speak their mind. Er, well, it's kinda easier to do so when you're unemployed isn't it Piquet?
Flav needs to come back with a really childish Ferrari-esque statement I say!
I no needa 'im anymore, I gotta me a driver that no crasha da car!
If only he showa thisa much agression in a da qualifying
Strange, I searched for 'Piquet' and missed your post!
Autosport's standards are slipping:
They can't even spell their own name right.
:D :D
That's what happens in word when it's all in Caps!
I have gone to the trouble of preparing a statement for Mr Briatore to respond with to Nelson's comments. :)
Nice :)
I reckon nobody bothers proof reading whatever is posted on Autosport online. I'm not an English teacher, but everyday I come across spelling mistakes and grammatical errors that would be eradicated if someone spent a minute going over what they had just written, rather than trying to 'out-scoop' other new sources with a story.
On the behalf of Flabio, thanks
Whoever is Fake Briatore on Twitter is seriously under using their account!
The Malaysian GP has been moved forward to prevent what happened this year should it happen again
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77639
Why couldn't he have just done it this season? At least Bernie's actually bothered now rather than stayed stubborn about it.
Jesus wept, another Autosport bodge up.
Before? It went for 31 laps. Out of 56? That to me is more than half?
Maths fail from autosport's part :D
I'm still trying to get my head around how 4pm is forward of 5pm
Didnt they take the results from lap 28 though, that would be half way...
I have no idea when I'm supposed to finish work now
Actually I messed up. The race went to lap 33, results were taken from lap 31.
Morning all!!
Just found this:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/lawandorder/6014619/Victorian-law-catches-drinker-on-mobility-scooter.html
hehehehe
how are we all today?
Hah!! Just got an email from Nokia telling me about Qik concerning my new phone. They've obviously been reading Sidepodcast ;)
morning sir
how are we today?
Not too bad thanks. Yourself?
i agree. next people will be wanting silverstone refunds because vettel won, not button.
am ok thanks, not fully awake so not really sure how i am :D
just the one article? they're slipping.
i'd like Valencia to refund my time lost for last years race....
I would like a refund for every race I have attended because Heikki won none of them.
again? they've done it twice in two weeks. how clueless are these people?
(still haven't replied to my last complaint.
Really greedy of the race organisers that. :P
I'd like a refund for Valencia even though I'm not going.
Seriously, he wasn't even on the podium yet those greedy meanies Lewis and Nico were there 2 out of 3 times!
yikes!
seconded. bernie owes us.
http://dingo.care-mail.com/cards/flash/5409/galaxy.swf
ehehehe :D
Hehehe, awesome!
i can see this turning into a very long rant by the end of the day:
http://twitter.com/sidepodcast/status/3284292816
probably including some tremayning for good measure.
01212887225
:D
GRRRR
Is that not different though on account of Button being in the race and Schumi won't be?
Totally awesome mediafuturechange video sadly an hour long: http://blog.businessofsoftware.org/2009/07/seth-godins-talk-from-business-of-software-2008.html
fans are not happy he didn't win. if fans are not happy, they deserve refunds, right?
i don't see the difference. you buy a ticket to a race. you don't buy a ticket to watch a driver.
their terms aren't 6 pages like Australia, but still
Item 1: No refunds or exchanges are available in respect of tickets unless the event is cancelled.
You buy a ticket, you agree to the terms. Tough.
I don't know. I don't think refunds are the right thing to do unless a race is cancelled prior to the date anayway...
Sounds fair to me.
What about Massa fans in Hungary with 3-day tickets? They don't get a refund because he didn't race.
Autosport are stupid!
Mr C, I think you should write a letter to the editor!
exactly. All day at work I deal with people complaining that our company is "being mean" when we're just sticking to the terms they agree to when they sign their contract. It drives me nuts. If you don't read it, its your problem.
shall write a blog post later. i'll forward it to them.
they won't get the message, but it'll make me feel better.
In traditional style you should threaten to cancel your subscription.
agreed. what about all the brazillians who paid to see him win the championship last year? they must be due too.
but of course.
and those poor, poor Monaco residents who wanted to see their neighbour Jenson in 2005.
hmmmm
;)
not to mention piquet's fan...
I think his dad gets in for free ;)
All 3 of them mustve been annoyed.
:D
But we are talking about the non-appearance of a driver, not an underperformance. People are asking if refunds are due if Alonso and the certain German CANNOT race...
Gooood morning. Afternoon, whatever.
I don't think Nick went to any races...
Morning all,
Yes they do...
If only they had "Tickets will not be refunded under any circumstances, including but not limited to, the possible non-appearance of any particular person, group or personality". Australia = smarter than Europe ;)
makes no difference. i understand the argument. but it's nonsense.
schumi said from the off he may not be fit enough to come back.
it's their own stupid fault for not paying attention. sorry, no sympathy here, giving refunds is a ridiculous idea.
:P
have i missed the story? have they actually given the fans a refund?
agreeeed. Like I said earier, no one man is bigger than the race.
I agree. You are attending a race event, not a fan club day!
Nah it's just been discussed today in these comments.
but they didn't reply to my last complaint? didn't even acknowledge it, and pulled the same trick a week later.
Won't they always be able to argue that they sold tickets to the European Grand Prix not the Alonso Grand Prix?
No you haven't, we're just speculating on a non-story...
ah ok, thats ok then :)
Indeed. But you can guarantee that the bulk of attendees are there just for him...
joe asked here if there would be:
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/08/13/disappointment/
although, i can't tell from that if he thinks there should be refunds?
Hmm, in which case I agree with Mr C. That's their problem.
especially if he's not going to be there!
i hope they enjoy the dockyards then?
This thread on the Autosport forums is an interesting read.
Feeling quite peckish at the moment and there's hardly anything in the fridge because we're off on hols tomorrow.
any where nice?
Oi!
It is indeed.
:D
The thought of Luca Badoer driving a Ferrari certainly doesn't do it for me, and I'm not even German.
i shall have a read. however, i should say grammatical errors annoy christine, but not me. partly because i'm not smart enough to spot them.
my only objection is the insistence on plugging the paper mag, when the stories can easily be posted online. i don't care if they charge me more money, just please stop the:
"here, have the rest of this story in paper format"
grrr
:P
Madeira. Full of old gits, I know, but at least the swimming pool isn't going to be cramed with screaming kids.
Needed a drink to steady the nerves after changing currency, though.
I always did prefer Christine over you. :-D
mmm cake.
Quote: "People come to read our content, not our sytnax."
OK then?
You know, I think people set rather too much store by what Ross says...
I don't really see the issue, i would rather have the news quicker with a spelling mistake, than delayed by hours so the Daily Mail Brigade are happy with the use of the comma.
:P
And fortified wine.
Still, should be able to spell your own name right.
i'd agree with that. but like i said, i really can't tell anyway.
look, i was commenting quickly, i didn't notice ok.
anyone can do it...
Absolutely.
Who is this Ross person? He's awfully defensive.
What ever you say Em...
you pick a good destination.
Perhaps he was giving you a hint as to our next podcast. All about Carry On films.
Further down it says that he is an AUTOSOPRT employee. They then tried to say he wasn't the official opinion on the matter...
the 'e' is superfluous anyhow.
he looks like one of those forum people who always shout at you if you post something in slightly the wrong place, and then wont stop and love an argument...i know this by his 33,000 posts...
woah. without a doohickey, that's quite impressive.
Referring more to Simon Strang's response. But Ross, well, Ross makes me laugh.
Don't agree. It takes no more than 60 seconds to read a normal news article. 60 seconds to make sure it is correct before hitting 'submit' and off it goes. Spelling mistakes, inaccuracies unfortunately shows a lack of effort and reflect badly in my opinion.
It's interesting that he went away after there was official word on the matter.
I love the guy that says "You have a greater number of grammatical errors in your post"
Hey, I know a few people with 33,000+ who don't do that.
me too :) but there are many that are like that, its unfortunate
He's employed within Haymarket, I think. Something to do more on the pictures/media-ery side of things. Stuart will be able to confirm.
He takes care of the picture side of things and goads forum-dwellers, although only one of those functions forms part of his job description!
Just copy the text and hit F7! It's not hard!
hehehehe.
f7?
I like the idea of a job description being "Official Forum Goader"!
* For non-PC users, this is the spell-check key in Microsoft word...
I guess i see it diferently.
News should be produced as quickly as possible, if there is a letter out of place and i can still understad what it says then thats not a problem.
Editorials should be proof read and stories should be checked after publication, but when you start slowing the process down people will just go elsewhere where the news comes out quiker
ohh.
Chrome has spell check built in :D
*probably shouldn't have admitted that :D
so long as the facts are correct, i'm with you.
anything rather than wait for the printing press to fire up and the colourists to check the pantone levels are all correct.
If Ross is employed by Haymarket then how come his word is not official?
P.S high five to the person who spelt AUTOSPORT wrong :D
Just because you work for someone doesnt mean you are their spokesmen.
I guess, it depends what his exact job title is i guess
So does Windows Live writer!
I don't think spelling errors are excusable when almost all apps have a spell checker. Seriously, it takes two minutes to check so the speed argument is just poppycock!
Not true. You represent your company at all times.
2 mins... fortunes are made and lost several times over in 2 mins!
Agreed, some things aren't pulled up by spell check and for those things it's fair enough, i'd rather the article get out, but for the words that have red lines underneath when you click send...they should be sorted out
Do we know why someone more 'official' had to step in?
Well from what i have heard this week, Tesco have some very strange opinions on Wayne Rooney!
fortunes are also made and lost on integrity too...
I'm not sure I agree with that, but if you're chatting on a forum for the company you work for, chances are you are representing them.
I will be very surprised if they are not forced into making a formal apology come to think of it.
Well, the cynic in me would say that the European Grand Prix is in Valencia precisely because of Alonso, but I guess that wouldn't be admissible in court. :D
Lost Integrity can be regained, time is lost forever :P
In priority terms, I agree that ensuring an article is factually correct over spelling and grammatical errors is probably most important.
Unfortunately, inaccuracies are emerging on Autosport.com all too frequently recently as well.
161mph!!
I'll clarify. When you enter some kind of conversation during working hours, you are speaking as a mouthpiece of the company - regardless if someone says you are not.
In this example, you overheard someone at Tesco say something about Rooney? Whilst not the opinion of Tesco's, you are still speaking as an employee...
Why not compromise? Have an initial first version up right away. Once that's up, proofread it and then replace the original version with the revised one. The original version would be up for no more than 5-10 minutes.
That really was a problem, factual errors are inexcusable
Exactly :-D
Assuming the facts to be published are correct, of course.
Yes and no. I've committed my share of howlers to print, despite being well enough regarded to find continuous employment here and there. When you work in a deadline environment for any length of time it is almost inevitable that occasionally something will waltz in under your radar. Most galling of all is that these whoopsies are usually blindingly obvious to the next person to read it (and, worst of all, to yourself when you pick up the damned thing after it's gone to press).
It's the nature of the business that your good work goes un-noticed while your errors are there for all to see. You can execute a scrupulous rewrite of a careless author, banishing their illiteracies and anfactualisms, and still end up looking a total chump because of a transposed consonant.
Print titles still have a wider safety net. For instance, the article I'm about to resume examining after lunch has been written by a careful author and will be seen by at least two people after me before it appears on the news stands. Websites tend to have fewer staff, because on-line revenues are still on the low side, and the audience is considerably more impatient and fickle. With that in mind, I'm inclined to forgive occasional on-line bloopers.
I think it wholey depends on the story...if its a story that is breaking news that needs to be out asap, i.e piquet's statement or schumacher coming back into f1 then i would compromise....other things less important...i.e "Force India promises more from 2009" then it should be checked properly before sending out
That was horrible, to be honest.
Agreed.
Mr C - can we do favouriting comments yet?
The idea of Ross Brawn being able to drive that fast or the error? ;)
One more thing before I pop off for comestibles: since MBW is being published by an American company, the manuscript has been rendered into American. So be prepared for some missing 'u's and extra 'z's, and please don't pillory me on-line when you read the word 'burglarized'!
Any car I've ever been in would fall apart like an RB4 the minute it went above 100mph!
and calling chicken burgers sandwiches?
Sammich! I've added it to the dictionary and everything.
Mmmmmmmmm. Sammich.
I think i need to make one now!
me too! I have been eating my muffins all day. I must say, I did an amazing job ;)
hehe. how about:
♥
Dropio?
Why did God put seeds in fruit? So annoying!
i made mars bar crispie cakes, uber yum :D
They do kinda allow us to have more fruit though!
They sound good...
I want a G2.
Rubbish! All my Fruit trees in Farmville have been sent to me as gifts over Facebook - That's where fruit comes from!
a bit stikyer than normal crispie cakes but still nice
Is that a hero?
I will tell you how mine goes :D
hahaha :D
does this mean google are now apple bringing out a replacement each week?
next batch (there will be a next batch)
I recommend the recipe to everyone. Even I, Miss Baking Fail, got it right
Yes. Just been looking at it on the interwebs. Makes my G1 look old and clunky. Boo for innovation. I like my G1.
Nah, it's not Google. It's HTC. Had my G1 since December, and it was always going to be outdated in a few months.
They arent made by google, its an open platform, HTC brought out the dream (called G1) last year, now this year they released the magic and now the hero (called G2 touch by T-mobile i think)
"I need a hero..."
You need to convince mrc c how good the g1 is, then offload it to him and get the g2 ;)
*discrete cough* whats HTC? *cough*
I was in the Vodafone store on Tuesday and my phone is still on sale. This makes me feel for once something I own is not outdated. This is not true though considering Nokia seem to bring out a new phone every week.
the high tech corporation....
...no really! :D
He is not convinced by an iPhone or a G1. I don't know what else I can do!
aha, how imaginitive
HTC is a phone company. Legend has it HTC stands for "Handsets that can't"! :D
Crackberry?
They have made phones for quite a while but in this country they are new as they have always been rebranded as being made by the networks.
They are from taiwan and probably the best PDA-phone makers until apple joined the party.
Doesn't the crackberry have an awful lot of small buttons. The man's biggest argument is his thumbs!
OK yeah that's totally out then!
How can he use an itouch but not an iphone? surely the buttons are the same?
No, I don't think the thumb argument works on the iPhone. I think the point there is that he has an iTouch so why does he need the phone bit. He thinks I'd be badgering him all the time, I expect.
iTouch to have tragic 'falls in toilet' accident?
Or the lack of buttons, anyway. ;)
Not you too! :P :D
Interesting.
Panda shirt?
Taking over as Joe's RSS Feed
He makes an interesting point that PKsnr knows exactly where to hit flav the hardest, and could be trying to get him sacked.
I hope thats the case. The irony of renault being sold on to PK at some point in the future without flav would make me chuckle for a week or 3.
I dont think it would fit me...
maybe actual panda shirt?
Possibly.... I think i could rock the v-neck am a bit worried about around the shoulders?
No! No! No! Ghastly device. The Storm is, at least.
One letter now and then is perfectly fine - until it happens regularly. That's just sloppy for a professional writer.
Stories should ALWAYS be checked BEFORE publication or we'll end up with retraction after retraction.
On the web being first with a story is irrelevant, everyone else will have their version up within the hour anyway. I'd much rather be second but right. There's a reason why when a rumour appears elsewhere, a lot of people wait until it appears on Autosport until they believe it, and that's a powerful place for them to be.
Evening all.
a hoy hoy
How are we down south?
good good, how about up north?
Fine I guess. Work sucks. :(
I cant see them retracting a story because they wrote their instead of there. Wasting hour upon hour debating whether or not the apostrophe goes before the s or after it is not helpful to anyone. I dont see any problem with checking the facts, publishing and then going over all the little nuances.
I left work early today and came home and slept for 4 hours. All the 3.30am nights finally caught up with me :D
I wasn't talking about retracting for a spelling mistake, but for fact-checking. Whoever I quoted (can't remember) was saying (unless I misread it) stories should be fact-checked after publication, which is where a certain 3-letter agency comes in.
Heh. I worked for 4 hours. It's still too long. I need to invent something REALLY cool, and then never have to work again.
Actually I just re-read it, I got the context wrong, sorry..
or win the lottery like Christine and I are going to do.
It was me.
My point was as long as the facts are all there and correct, it is better to publish it is fit is a breaking news story. fix the spelling and punctuation afterwards. But non time sensitive editorial pieces should go out properly checked...
That would work. Actually, it would probably only work if you won one of the really big ones. If not you'd probably still have to work.
No worries...
'It is fit is' translates into 'if it is' :P
I was going for the $90 million but it was rigged so in protest I'm never buying another ticket :D
Yeah, it was rigged. No one from NSW won it.
East won? :P
*also some comment about the state of origin which i haven't come up with just yet
nick's holding out for a hero?
We don't need another hero.
Which brings me my new theory...
Brawn are struggeling for sponsors, might need to replace RB next year.
PKsnr knows a lot of big businessmen in Brazil
PK at brawn!
around here we hold out for a timo
That is a TERRIFYING idea.
Would much rather Bruno please if Rubens is going. If.
Yes!
i don't want people to call me. no-one ever phoned me to offer me anything i wanted. people only ring when they want something.
Am liking panda clothes, btw. Perhaps I should do a Baby Panda Thursday clothes special.
Don't need to know the way home, either.
fair point.
All we really want is life beyond the thunderdone I guess.
That's what I did. The lottery failed me when I really needed it, so it is on the naughty step right now.
I dont understand the PK hate... he is a nice guy and he got f1 on twitter.
He is also entertaining....
:P
Nobody at all?
Nice guy is pushing it. Twitter I will agree with.
Just reading about the politics even in club racing leading people to resign...it appears its not just the big bad world of Formula 1 where politics rears its ugly head :(
What did he do? he has come across well in all the interviews i have seen with him...
i can't remember the last bit of good news i received by someone calling me up.
what i want is an ipod touch with a 3g data connection. i have no use for a phone.
The post-sacking interviews?
I think PK is one of hte only driver where the phrase "let hte results do hte talking" dosent apply
I think in the several interviews I've read, or seen, him in he has moaned, moaned and moaned. twitter he has been good for.
piquet jnr? he's an arse.
true story.
he shoulder barged a group I was standing with that five other drivers managed to walk around rather than push their way through the middle. That did it for me ;)
Before he arrived, he was really cocky and arrogant, then he was put in his place and I felt a bit sorry for him. Not particularly impressed with how he's handling himself now, although I'm glad Flav is getting a kicking.
Have you ever read his interview in F1 Racing from the beginning of the year? Even then before the season started he seemed completely miserable at everything concerning F1.
So was his Dad...
Gosh these crimes sound awfull!
Given the circumstances in that team I would be too. He was on a hiding to nothing and he had no chance!
By your crowd etiquette shall ye be judged...
He likes to be close to the fans....
Here we are talking Tina and the iTunes randomiser has landed on Pet Shop Boys again. Seems to be going through a phase...
Is he Danish?
best interview he ever did was on the renault podcast with holly before his renault drive was even confirmed. he "knew" he had the drive before kovi was let go (which lends weight to to the piquet snr. theory).
he came across as the most stuck-up, arrogant, spoilt, egotistical and clueless driver ever to speak into a microphone.
ahh but four of the other five also walked over to where the fans were to sign autographs. Not so much for Piquet (and Alonso to be fair)
it's not a crime. i just have zero sympathy for the guy. he had it coming.
I would love to hear that if anyone has a copy...
Maybe he was doing a Lewis Hamilton impression?
You asked why he wasn't a nice guy? No one said he was a criminal.
:D
Lewis is a nice guy though, and he appreciates the sport not only as a driver but as a fan. Piquet gives away no kind of appreciation in his interviews.
sadly i don't. the renault archive is purged regularly.
Fair enough, the interview thing is more of a reason for sure
Not a very smooth one, anyway.
Maybe now, but lewis+Anthony in year 1 were insufferable. I thought PK came across really well in Monaco with Lee
Lewis is bad at media relations and is doubly restrained by his Dad and McLaren.
When let off the leash he seems like a nice bloke...
:D :P
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDRN3umyXTk
:D
Exactly, he's just restricted by rubbish PR stuff I reckon. For example that Silverstone video with jake he came across fantastically, and I'm not a big Hamilton fan but I really enjoyed him there!
ahh, max's theme tune.
To be fair to Piquet, he is bashing Flavio, which is something we all like to do at times
God. I can't listen to that anymore.
#sorrychristine
He did now, but he has been in the sport for 2 1/2 years.
Most young drivers coming into the sport are fools. Just look at the Comments tim made about bourdais when he found out he had his drive...
Actually he came across better than Jenson in that piece I thought...
me too
This is because F1 drivers are too young these days!
true enough. in fairness to piquet, very few test drivers get a half hour podcast dedicated to themselves. i'm not comparing like with like.
Is Lou around?
I shouldn't say I agree but.......... he did. Jenson seemed very awkward.
I thought Jenson was a little overboard on the 'you're a terrible driver I'M GOING TO DIE' thing.
I thought that was pretty funny :D he did look completely terrified mind you.
Just in those segments, for once lewis seemed more at ease and relaxed. I want to see more of that lewis to be honest.
You just have to get him behind the wheel of a car so he forgets about the camera.
apparently we didn't comment on the piquet podcast interview at the time, but we did talk about it in the show. from the transcript:
apparently i wasn't that bothered by piquet's comments at the time then. did i mention how much i (hearts) new sidepodserach?
Why isn't that part of this excellent new fangled Playground, sir?
;)
why yes, i believe it is.
Hahahahaha. I remember that. We used to ask each other all the time! Same way these days we say are you human or are you dancer?
That's awesome - thanks for digging that out!
- dancer
- happy person
Everytime that song comes on the chorus confuses me. I just don't get what it means!
Human. Thinks a lot.
How do we ever manage to get on? :)
Clearly you are the thinks a lot type too :)
I assumed it meant....Are you a genuine person or are you just putting on a show...
Need to think about that one, will get back to you
I overanalyse everything. even this I'm over analysing. Is it good to think a lot though? Maybe. I dunno. possibly.
or.
Yes. Yes I am.
I'll never listen to that song the same way again. Thanks, Mr C. :P
He's clearly a replicant.
:)
I've always took it to mean that dancers follow a beat while a human would do what ever they liked.
Dancers are not human?
in that case, still dancer.
It's related to that "everybody dancing to the same tune"... humans should be capable of independent thought
although i always took it to mean - are you santa, or one of his reindeer?
What song is this?
Human by The Killers
That's much better. I like that one.
Perhaps Holly's question was about the Seven Dwarfs? Happy or thinks a lot (Doc?)
ooh. in that case, still happy.
Human - The Killer
They sound much more menacing without the 'S'.
Grumpy :-)
They do don't they. No idea why - shouldn't a gang of them be more dangerous?
did you see the virtual piano video posted here a couple of days ago?
No
:D
i think this is it. i have no audio though:
#sorrynick
hehe, im not watching it, but im glad it is now evidence of people being absolute lemmings!
A bear!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8199496.stm
Ohhh yes! :D:D
I can confirm that is a bear
Loving it - F1 Rejects just set up a forum page where people can leave messages of support for Luca Badoer. The best ones will get mentioned on their special Luca Badoer Comeback Edition. Brilliant. :D
I love that they shot rubber pellets at it until it ran back into the woods!
:-D
That's not as cute as the pandas that were on the loose in Birmingham
I want one! they are an awesome cross of horse/dog/cat
There are pandas in Birmingham?
you say it like it's a bad thing. the subject is "finding a common chorus", those people aren't following each other, they leading each other.
Red ones
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/4402538.stm
Uh ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I don't think they're tifosi
I'm still not here but I am melting and under assault from multiple Flying Buzzing Things through the window. Some can sting.
you're not having one.
Is this like a game to guess what they are?
Erm... hummingbirds?
They have no choice in the matter, they aren't deciding what they are doing. Its just a reaction to their circumstances. Because those circumstances are being controlled, they are being controlled
Does this include people that don't choose to sing?
NOT A PANDA. IMPOSTER.
Sounded like a very female audience! :-D
Picturing all these guys going "what the...?"
Nope. They are aware.... but the majority are puppets
Nick quick don't blink!
true. we don't know how many are in the audience.
the thing is, i only see it as positive, regardless. i love it, and i'm amazed by it.
I'm having deja vu! ;)
Who? Little old me?
http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~tptsai/red-panda.jpg
;) You want me to wink alternately instead? :P
Grrrrr.
Did you blink?
That is not a panda!
There is a small chance they may be cuter than giant panda's :D
WHAT?
I read it on the way to answer the phone so i cant remember!
Okay don't blink now.
bet it was someone wanting something.
afternoon :)
I'm sorry...
But they are sweet... wouldnt you like one as a pet if MrC wouldnt let you have a giant one?
afternoon :D
how was your driving today?
No!! What would I want with a Panda imposter?
I blinked... my eyes are sick though so i think this experiment is void :P
I said to both lou and christine earlier in the week that yes, they are cute but they are not pandas! They are 50% correct!
They are amazing though... plus they are small so its like having a baby panda that stays a baby panda! ;)
sheep!
it was good thanks. did some bay parking today, and realised that i've done 13 hours now, he says that in another 10hours i should be confident on the roads etc. which means about another 5 lessons before i won't be getting flustered as much, but today went well :D
I have been let off meeting someone. Londodn you are safe... for tonight at least
But they're nothing like pandas. I might as well get a cat.
You can't not. You also breathe unconsciously. You also know what the next note is in that series. We also have always communicated by blushing and yawning. Because if you didn't you wouldn't be human. It's only once you start thinking about it that it seems odd.
I mean how ridiculous is it that you can see the word yawn and it might make you yawn.
Whatever you do don't yawn.
:)
gah! where!
The good thing about a cat is that it would fit the site name better:
SidePodCat
You should see bearded pigs. they don't even have beards!!
....they have mustaches.
bugger.
I didnt yawn. :P
Trade descriptions!
Oh good one.
twice. damn you.
Nick really you haven't yawned?
At all?
Not even a little yawn?
:)
Sorry
i'm not even tired. i woke up at 11:30. stop it.
or a Sugar Glider
I'll stop talking about yawning now ;)
I just wanted Nick to realise that he's mad to fear it. This is what humans do. It's all part of communication.
I am pretty sure I would break that.
agreed. i embrace it.
dancer.
I have not yawned... tired people yawn, i am trying to find a job!
Or accept that the Matrix programmed it that way. What do you mean that's not helping?
what you need is a lemur.. so that i can come help look after it :P
Although if Nick doesn't yawn. That probably means he's not Human. And so also a dancer.
I dont fear it, sometimes people annoy me....
A tiger and a lemur? These are poor replacements for a panda.
It runs up the curtains and glides down to you.. tis awesome!
Actually it isn't to do with being tired. But rather to do with increasing the oxygen into your lungs. Something you may need to do after not moving very much.
Or maybe i am the guy singing the song? :P
the man who released his single through a major record label. nice one.
the tiger can keep mr c busy while you and the lemur go to get the panda ;)
Fxt! :P
ooh, yawning is exercise?
I have no real problem with that, there are several major record labels.
I just fear that it is inevitable that 1984 will come true
After 2 mins trying to force myself to yawn.. i have :D
about this doohockey...
*puts tinfoil hat back on*
I hate to break this to you...
It's 2009 that means 1984 has already happened ;)
Try this on for size. If you take the search results for a search term on google and yahoo and ask people to say which results they prefer then they generally tell you it is google's results.
If you do the same thing, but make the yahoo results appear on the google page and vice - versa. Then people still tell you that the google results are better.
vee just tweeted that part 2 of his williams article is up:
http://vee8.doctorvee.co.uk/2009/08/13/the-williams-f1-simulator-and-museum/
:D :D
They really need to start randomly assigning year numbers instead of this chronilogical rubbish...
Thats more to do with loyalty... but yes it does show how easyily manipulation can override logic
Right, in the room with the notes everyone was together at a conference where Scientists were going to show them cool things that they wanted to learn about. If the guy had gone "bah, bah, bah, shoot the person next to you". I don't think the last bit would have worked very well for him.
Although, don't they say (and I haven't read it so shoot me down) that it could be any year as the powers-that-be keep rewriting history?
I tried to read it and I think I gave up somewhere half way through.
But they drank the coolade in jonestown...
That is true... it was the main guys job!
I find cults so ridiculously fascinating. The number of books about them I own is a little out of hand.
You are stulting a cult about cults?
I watched the jonestown documentary and it really scared me, i dont think i slept that night...
natural selection?
That Jonestown thing was messed up. *shivers*
Isn't this Sidepodcult?
Heavens Gate is still my favourite cult ever, and not just because their beautiful mid 90s website, as discussed the other night, is still up.
oh yes. This is definitely one.
You may be interested in Diane Benscoter's TED talk a former Moonie...

buy mugs and stuff
ooh who needs sleep at 12.37am when there is culty things to read.
Jackie keeps giving ours away :-D
Video... No reading required!
haha!
He's trying to trick us all!
you need a new logo so I can have a real bling-bling sidepodcast mug :D
ooh!
Ted is doing cults now? Wouldn't it be better if the BBC just gae him an F blog?
It's on the
listplayground.*sips*
Sorry it was a while ago since I watched that video. There is some quite disturbing imagery in that video.
I want a mug with a random subtitle for each time I make a drink please
:D
;)
i'll put it on.... you want what??
:)
Should have been F1. I think the numbers on my keyboard have gone on strike in sympathy with the letters
And Mr C's question mark
very interesting though, thanks for the link. I really enjoy reading/hearing stories of people who get away from cults.
There is a link to the text q and a session there somewhere.
sidepodradio?
now....how to get away from sidepodcast......
Mr C should be able to hack something together using this:
http://www.latestbuy.com.au/thermal_travel_mug.html
That mug has an LCD screen on it!
does it talk to the cloud?
"Drivers are advised that they may want to close eyes if they spin in order to avoid reacquainting themselves with their lunch."
+
"Kazuki Nakajima is amazing in the simulator and can spend all day in it with no ill effects"
=
He's always spinning in practice, quali and racing because he actually enjoys it
gasp! is there a USB version? Work would be so much more enjoyable if my tea stayed hot.
i wondered if it was a static simulator to save on pit crew injuries?
Drink quicker?
After 23 years I have not yet learnt to finish a mug before it is cold, I think its too late for me.
A smaller mug?
oddly enough I get mad at small mugs. Why do they exist? I like a BIG mug. Because one day I might just get to the end of it.
You have to forgive me, I love cold tea so it's never been a problem
Mrs Maverick winds me up by making tea for me in a normal mug and a giant mug for herself, she seems to think it's funny
my problem is that I don't like it cold but I don't like it hot. The temperature range in which I find drinks acceptable is rather small.
Every time my dad makes me a cup of tea he says "I'll just leave it here for a week until its cold enough, shall I?"
That's like me but once below the threshold temperature it never becomes too cold, adding ice is rather good in summer
okay i'm off back out into the real world for the rest of the afternoon. bye! x
mmm ice.
See ya!
Hehehehehehe!
Finger mice?
On the 2CV forums they are talking about a 30 hour race next year because it's the 20th anniversary....im not sure i could cope with another 6 hours, i was ready to collapse at 24!!
I have solved the problem...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/sidepodmugsforthefuturetoday-wmv
Oh you can't really read it... I'll have to wait until it's dark!
They used to do the Wilhire 24 at Snetterton and when they had the 25th year they had a 25 hour race.
you sir, have way to much time on your hands....
quite briliant
i have no sound, so i can only guess what you're saying (hard to lip read when you're not on camera), but i want that card thing.
I think they're going to try and have the worlds longest race or something like that, so would need to be 26 hours (i believe) minimum, which is quite insane
I have no idea what the world's longest race was? I know in th very early days of racing they used to have races over a few days but the cars were so unreliable they probably only ran a few hours each day.
I could only make out a few words on the screen but that was amazing.
Thank you.
Not really. I just prefer doing this kind of thing :)
I mean how long does it really take to program a LCD screen and attach it to a glass? - oh I see ;)
mmmm :D
Instead of that I recorded a follow up from under my desk
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/gigglemugeasiertosee-mov
Have you never heard of a multi-point?
It has a open circuit board on the back... And if you touch it while the battery is in you crash the thing. It has a magnet on it and another one you can position elsewhere - which is why I couldn't attach it to the mug because it's too thick. And you have to send it a blast of IR to control it. And it came with no instructions and it uses the COM port which means I don't think it will work with a Mac... But other than for those reasons I can heartily recommend it! ;)
Why would you need one of those cluttering up the place?
To save you having an electrian putting (was it 6?) double plug sockets next to each other? Unless it was like that when you moved in?
I am very annoyed with myself because in the liveness of the video I said "socket" rather than "plug". What was I thinking?
I see no reason not to put it on sale immediately
It was not like that when I moved in.
On that wall there are eight double plugs (four are on the other end of the wall), 2 x telephone and 2 x ethernet. There are 2 more double plugs on the opposite wall in this room, but then this is the computer room.
It was not like that when I moved in.

That is extremeee
that must be safer than multi-ports though?
And more efficient.
It depends, some have alot of safety bits built in, but if you need that many plugs then it probably is better to have actual sockets
http://bit.ly/iHOML
This has made my day :)
I just was always annoyed when in previous houses I ran out of sockets - and the house needed rewiring.
Behind my TV I have only 3 dual sockets and I knew I should have got more. I now have had to add a splitter! I also got them to wire in the ethernet and the 2xSky cables so that that wire doesn't need to go anywhere.
Hehe, thats great!
ARRRGH THEY'RE ABOUT TO GET EATEN BY A GIANT SQUIRREL!
Oh wait...
Excellent.
hehe, much better...
I think the main takeaway from this afternoon though is... Always keep a magnetically attachable reprogrammable LCD screen with you - at all times!
It's my friend Nick's birthday today and he told me that he got a personally signed copy of Lewis Hamilton's Autobiography.
Which says Happy Birthday Nic in it. - note the lack of K
Now the story behind this is that Nick was given the book by his girlfriend who's best friend has known Lewis since he was a boy and managed to pull this favour. When the friend received the book from Lewis and passed it to Nick's girlfriend the mistake was discovered.
The friend then challenged Lewis about the spelling who said, sorry, I got confused that's how I spell Nichole's name.
I think I shall take to calling my friend Nick - THAT MAN!
and a pair of 3d glasses
You know if you wear them out of the cinema, they let you see real life in 3D!
oh my god I just had a Heikki heartattack.
Who on earth rings someone at 2.22am from a private number?
I'm with Mr C. Phones are evil.
Embarrasing RG moments: Guy playing for my team on FM scored last minute winner, I jumped up, and ended up forgetting to land properly...
heikki called?
I keep rejecting the call and they are now trying for the fourth time
WHO ARE YOU
Is that not how Lewis's brother spells his name too?
heikki ring tone :D
oooh i have one of those...except i got mine for Christmas....and he spelt my name right....
Pick it up but dont say anything... dont worry we are all here...
hahahaha
rejecting calls got too tiring. Instead I have turned off the ringer and the vibrate alert. I now have 7 missed calls. If its important, they'll leave a voicemail ;)
I am too scared! It's the middle of the night!
you could even qik stream it if you didnt need the phone to pick up the call!
But people hate voicemails.
Just dont say anything, they will think you answered by accident...
Answer and say 'This is sidepodcast. Leave your message after the beep. If you want the message played on sidepodradio please say so. BEEP!'
Ah that may have been what he said, I'll ask again. I am retelling something that is I guess 3rd hand already.
I hate odd phone calls in the middle of the night.
I got a few during the day as well but the number came up as a NSW area code and I don't know anyone in NSW so didn't answer those either. :D
You think it is a spider?
Arent you fascinated as to who it is?
ooh maybe. They appear to have stopped, and I hope so, because if I don't turn my ringer back on my alarm won't go off in the morning.
last time I answered a NSW number it was someone from my bank trying to sell me income insurance.
I should start answering though, what with all the trips to F1 races I'll be winning ;)
Are they still ringning?
Go on pcik it up.... :P
Mmmmm I just had a steak pie with lots and lots of mint sauce. ;)
mmmmm, steak pies = amazing
Who who, who who
If I was prime minister, I'd make that illegal :P
Don't start that or I'll change some lyrics to fit the situation
They have stopped but I am now scared to go to sleep in case I unexpectedly hear Heikki again :D
That is weird. I like mint sauce but steak pie and mint sauce is like having steak pie and ice cream
oh dear!
I assumed you heard Heikki in your sleep every night
I tried to warn you Steven that Lukeh is a bad influence!
eheheh
she only wants a signed Heikki.
that reminds me that I better get started on Sidepodradio!
I am with him as far as mint sauce being under used but you can't have it with pie.
Spag bol?
Will the magnetic LCD be making an appearance on sidepodradio.
No
Its just im having it tonight...
might try it with horseradish
all this talk of food makes me realise I really should go to sleep. So pleased it's Friday so only one more day of tired-at-work to go. Night all!
Night Amy!
Night Amy
I suppose I could have used that as an advert.
I have got a plan for something on Monday night that will go into it.
The most time consuming thing is selecting the music.
night Amy
I suggested an easy way round that last night. Apparently we have some talented musicians on this site so Lou and some of the others should upload clips of themselves playing music and we can use that.
night!
I am going outside for a while. I have my phone and a map of the stars so I shouldn't get lost by more than about 30 miles. The only problem is Lou is outside as well and when both of us go out at the same time bad stuff happens. I suppose at least this time Schumacher can't come back again.
I saw that. I would be very happy for Lou to provide the music for my show that's very kind of her to offer ;)
Also doesn't RCC have a band?
Oops - better get to bed, too. :D Sorry I've been more of a lurker tonight, had some stuff to finish. G'night, everyone. ;)
if Villenerve comes out of retirement I'm blaming you!
Is it dark in scotland already?
Used to, I think. Last I heard, they've broken up.
Niggght!!!
well it is very north. More even than Zone 6
ah i wonder what instrument he plays.
Could Mr C be tempted out of retirement I wonder?
oooooooooh scary!
This is starting to get dangerous!
I have a feeling the band broke up but by the discussion he was having with Lou he must play guitar pretty well so he could do something.
Night Journeyer
That would be good not bad.
It stays light in Scotland later than England in summer
I'm still blaming you.
Thats what i thought, hows the star map going to help?
good point!
i have no instrument. i can however, offer a reworking of classic tune with lyrics inspired by a current, but sadly mia, driver and his engineer?
He has to be and for the rest of us we can help by using this http://www.kenbrashear.com/ That has to help any of them.
THERE ARE MORE ZONES!?!?!
So we have three guitarists among us at least...
Now we're getting somewhere.
Well if I get lost it will eventually get dark. Of course if it is cloudy the start map won't help.
We can re-form the Beatles with a modern twist
If anyone remembers the sidepodgeneration song thingy I made up on Monday, I am planning on doing that. Live.
Well, maybe pre-recorded. I probably will wimp out.
these are unimportant details. I didn't have an LCD glass earlier. But now thanks to Sidepodcast I do ;)
Of course we remember it
There must be virtual guitars
there's an itouch application he can use!
Perfect
I am really off this time. Catch you later
it's rubbish!
...but okay.
See ya
good.
Anyway, I'd really like to thank Mr C, RCC and Lou for providing all the music for my radio shows. That's a great help :)
sounds like you plan to do a lot of talking.
maybe we need tribute track? :(
Sad stuff. :(
Absolute legend.
but... But... Steven told me you guys would deliver 50 minutes of solid Gold... GOLD! You would be the new Beatles.
#blamesteven
looks like he had a good innings. Quite a pioneer.
James Allen has some interesting ideas about drivers reshuffling before the end of the season, so we could see Alonso in a ferrari and Booby K in a Renault before Abu Dhabi which could be interesting.
Will also be very funny if KR decides not to retire just to cause trouble!
94? Well done sir! Do you think he's Knocking on Heavens door?
International Left Handers Day Y’say?
Famous left hander is Ned Flanders {Comment #1}
Giancarlo Fisichella is also left-handed.
Judging by the list written towards the top of the comments, it looks like it's quite a lot of people's day today...
Which is then quickly followed up by “…on a fault line”. This I don’t get. Who races on an area that’s susceptible to earthquakes? {Comment #43}
This isn't an oblique reference to Suzuka, by any chance (which had a minor earthquake during a practise session a few years back)?
I have 684 unlistened to podcasts… {Comment #88}
I have three unlistened-to podcasts, which isn't bad considering I have no sound card.
:)
Tweet:
Noble F1: Ari Vatanen has announced his leading cabinet members for the FIA presidential election. It includes ADAC's Hermann Tomczyk
guess there should be some more news tonight... will be interesting...
His website hasnt been updated quite yet...
Evening All, is it bad that I read that as ACDC's Hermann Tomczyk ;)
Yep, same here :D
are you about to rock?
i hear new comment noises even when my browser is closed.
The doohickey will soon lead to us sidepodders going 'psst' just before someone talks in a conversation, see.
:D
Evenin all. Much better day at work today :P
AUTOSPORT
has some more details, not massive names, but not too bad i dont think...
Evening Scott, glad you had a good day
YAAAAAAY! :D
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77645
Evening .. anyone lurking around?
5 more years of fun for MrC
I am somewhere....
Hi Nick
yes
Its gone very quiet...
I dont think this cult has strict enough membership policies...
Hi Alex.
It's very q word tonight
am blogging. you'll not hear from me for at least 5 hours. i cannot mutlitask nor type very fast.
that word is a bit unfortunate or I need new glasses. I read it as something else whoops
That's coz I was watching TV/mini revamping my blog...!
Ooh interesting, what you blogging about?
stuff.
I've just been there, its looking nice
He won't even tell me!
Stuff id good :D
The rotter!
Thanks - tell your friends ;)
I don't have any hehe
MFC?
What does that stand for?
This probably isnt the gamer for you :P
Media Future Change ...its the new project
ah, thanks
Working title. :)
Your new site?
Yup.
http://www.mediafuturechange.com
Not much happening there yet.
Sorry what does Media Future Change mean?
Nothing. Working title.
Is this the site you want to develop for the community?
Erm?
Isn't it self explanatory?
After the hiatus, you mentioned something about a potential new community site for the lclt and doohickey
Winter Olympics are in 6 months time! thats nuts!
Ah right, then yes.
We're not developing it FOR the community, but we hope to bring everything we've learned about the doohickey etc to that as well.
It's just another project for us so that our whole life isn't Formula 1 (which sucks).
evening
Whats it done now?
Ah, makes more sense now, thanks
Backatcha!
It has sucked this year don't you think?
Same as ever :)
Hi Lou
Hello!
Ive loved it!
Its been a bit meh.
I reckon either I'm a bit burnt out or it's just not been as much fun this year
everyone having a nice evening? i've come to escape my parents, who seem to be more annoying than usual :(
What have you done wrong? :P
BUT they save you from spiders, so you gotta love 'em.
A far as my daughters concerned I breathe therefore I'm annoying
evening :)
has been a quiet night tonight. Not feeling too well myself to be honest. :(
Awe poor you
that's a good point. i don't think it's them, i just think i'm a little more on edge this week cause i'm nervous about going away (am not used to going on long holidays without them)
haha nothing, unless you count not willing to drive home int the dark(ish) with them both in the car.. lol
aww i hope you feel better soon
Perhaps they are nervous too?
After four years of WHOOOAAAH! this year is a bit pfft.
ah i never thought of it that way. it's the first time i've been away for so long so yeah, it's understandable they'd be nervous.
Ive been dying for like 2 days and all i get is a 'meh'
Lukeh on the otherhand... :P
hehehe
Its good, new teams winning, bettter tv coverage, politics being sorted out long term.... Its awesome!
Awe poor Nick .. didn't know you wer ill. I'ven not been around for a couple of days
Evening all, i just played the most dire round of pitch and putt. Booo, i blame the fading light.
How are we all?
Have you been driving at night yet?
Tis fun :D
Is it Swine Flu?
The TV coverage has made it bearable, yes.
Deciphered .. I think I'm tired, look at the spelling :(
hehe, i was only kidding... Im feeling a quite a bit better now.. still cant balance, hopefully i will get that back tomorrow
nope not yet, i'm not wanting the first time i do it to be with both rents in the car though. :)
Hi Jon, have you recovered from your 24 hour commenting?
evening Jon. i'm fine thanks. how are you?
Sounds like Wine Flu ;)
I have no fever so i dont think so... im going for either conjunctivitus or upper respiratory infection
You know why I love Fridays? Danish Pastry for Breakfast, Midweek Motorsport on the iPod and Beers after work! :D
:P Its all the time though, combined with eyes sealing themselves while i sleep its dangerous!
I have thank you, and am now trying to decide how best to blog about my weekend, i have a guest post in the pipe line that i started yesterday (on the kind request of Mr C) and just have to best work out how to write about everything else, i could take up a months worth of posts writing about it :D
good thanks, looking forward to thursday? ;)
Woohoo for the guest post! Can't wait :)
Cool, I look forward to reading about it :)
Please do ;) It's one thing to be at a 24 hour race, but to be at the heart of it like you were ... awww man I would happily read months of stuff about that!
I started it yesterday on the train, but after the Picadilly line got shut down i had to concentrate on that :(
It was an honour to be there, i didn't want to sleep because i didnt want to miss anything!!
I know that feeling!
Greetings people of sidepodcast. I have returned safely from the dreaded outside with more evidence that bikes are evil. A former BMW test driver went out on his mountain bike and broke his elbow and smashed his helmet to bits.
Who?
Timo Glock qualifies as ex-BMW tester
*Starts to get all worried*
Neel Jani
twas who i thought it was...
Aaaand breathe out
No Timos were involved in the accident
I can't say i'm surprised about these racing drivers and bike accidents, it's all about the speed and cornering as fast as possible, and when you get it wrong on a bike at that speed...it aaaalll hits the fan. Hope he's 'ok'
Aww crap :(
Interesting. Now Montreal Mayor Gerald Tremblay says that there is a tentative deal for F1 to return to Montreal in 2010.... Wonder if there's a chance of a North American double-header....
Go Greenland / Iceland/ Mexican Grand Prix !
Greenland GP... Hmm - half the country is in Permafrost and there's no roads...
Perfect!
thursday? What's happening next Thursday?
ooooh, she's forgotten.
R-E-S-U-L-T-S D-A-Y
:D
He reckons he will be fine for the first A1GP race. He said he had beaten his best time for the route and was on a public road going home. He said there were roadworks around and thinks he may have clipped a piece of wood. More likely just a slippy surface.
mmm, tis easily done. Have done it myself before, you loose the rear end or just clip something with you're handlebars and you're a gonner, it just depend whats around as to how bad it's going to end....
You have not been in the half of Canada that is above 60 degrees North latitude, have you Gavin...
It looks like he got off fairly lightly as he said his helmet was smashed to pieces but his head was fine
I wonder what type of helmet he was wearing, if he was wearing a normal bike helmet then thats amazing he just had the injuries that he did
No not at all, but I hear it can get a bit cold from time to time ;).
Judging by Bernie's choice of locations lately it sounded like a perfect fit though!
Ooooooh no :( well I'm on holiday anyway so it will either ruin my holiday or make it even better I suppose. You looking forward to getting your results?
Why do I get the feeling that he was lucky to land on his head instead of his backside which would have sent him to the hospital for sure?
Yeah, it's gone badly, i know it, but i dannae care :D I don't even know where i'm going to be next year but it totally dosent bother me at the moment. I may even take a gap year!!
Oooh, I get to find out my maths when I'm on holiday. They have gave me a little card that i can use to get on t'internet and see my results.
I see Bernie has finally seen sense about Malaysia and is letting them start the race an hour earlier next year
He broke his elbow...i'd say he probably went to hospital ;)
oooh wow, that sounds cool. Hopefully the site wont crash!!!
I have been to Iceland though...
Hospital was involved. What beats me is this was in the pulped tree version of AUTOSPORT but none of us saw it anywhere on th net
Hopefully. Though I suspect the majority will be using the usual method of going into school....
I'll see.
i know I need to retake my history but I'm not sure I'll ne heartbroken if I have to retake psychology too, considering i was ill that week.
Tis the great thing about AS levels, you can retake them twice more if you need to :)
Funnily enough we had a discussion about "AUTOSOPRT" continuing to say "read the full version in the paper copy" and making horrendous spelling mistakes on the website...
. . . But its a "dry" cold....and it feels quite balmy if you use a Kelvin temperature scale. Must be the low triple digits...
my favourite was when they spelt AUTOSPORT wrong :D
:D :D :D
I saw Mr C's tweet earlier on
Evening all, my colleague was sent off to siberia for a conference - a chilly -40 degC and below for the entire week
He should have landed on his head then. It would have resulted in less damage... :P
What did your colleague do wrong? That's where Stalin used to send prisoners to die!
i hate that only some exam bourds give you the option to get results online. Mum is going to get mine then ring me.
To rub it in, I drew Hong Kong... +40
For my GCSE's i didnt want to know on the day as i was on hols, but then decided i did on the day, phoned them up and they wouldnt tell me...BOO
oh that's not nice. My school doesn't mind you ringing up which is good.
I think Mock the Week are reading sidepodcast. They were talking about a fat woman's happy place probably being Greggs
I think they would have let me if i'd have told them thats what i was going to do.
+40 ? Christ. At that temperature I would be fighting the pet Husky to figure out who gets to sleep inside the freezer!
Yes, well, Comarde Stalin never heard of Alert, N.W.T. I mean, Santa Claus lives to the south of that place!
air con is a wonderful thing
I have been reading a book about a Polar Explorer and he started his journey in a place called Resolute ... sounds like a mad place to live...
Surely at this time of year Siberia is hot?
Only when it works. At +40 you tend to get something called "Overloaded Power Grid".
The fake pandas are breeding!
http://www.zooborns.com/zooborns/2009/08/denver-zoo-red-panda-triplets.html
Red Pandas are crap ... and they don't like their photo being taken!
What kind of panda would have triplets. Case proven. They are not pandas.
Can't remember what time of year she went. We just followed the weather for the week and the first day it was -40 and it dropped every day from then on
I remember on "Long Way Round" they couldn't use a road in Siberia because they went through in summer and it was only passable when frozen...
I spent 6 months in the Ukraine a few years ago. I arrived in August and it was +35C and when I left just before Xmas and it was -30C and a lot of snow everywhere.
Well, Resolute is the closest town to the North Magnetic Pole, and if you travel north via GPS, you get to the Claus house, and further north is Alert....
The coolest thing up there is watching the compass spin like helicopter blades.....
they don't mind too much...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/3809959752/
Considering how hidden away he was, that turned out great!
It just proves how Awesome lou is at taking photos. At the Safari Park in Denmark they just hid in the trees :(
You poor sod! Did you meet Verka Seduchka or that weird politician who has hair like Princess Leia?
we did stand there for a while looking at them...
Yep, sure does. :) They were really hidden away for us too, took us a while to realise they were there.
I know I posted this earlier but I just took the easy option.
looking for them sorry.
So, not only are they useless like Panda's but they don't want to be seen or photographed... How are we supposed to think they're cute and worth saving from extinction???
I'm trying to remember if I actually saw them or not at the weekend at Chester zoo - pretty sure only the spectacled bears went in to complete hiding (I suspect they don't actually have any really)
Annoyed that my nearest zoo is North Yorkshire. Just like the nearest race track. Is there anything up here?
Didn't meet anyone remotely famous except when I was staying in Moscow at the end for a couple of days before we left. We stayed at the Gorbachev hotel and conference centre. It turns out that he actually gave lectures to western businesses there on how to deal with Russia.
There was a basement with shops. I was wandering along minding my own business and rounded a corner to find I had walked straight into Gorbachev and almost knocked him on his backside. I didn't know what to do. I was going to take may hand out my pocket to shake hands with him but he had a monster either side of him with bulging pockets so I just muttered sorry and walked on.
Now that would be cool, running into Carrie Fisher. Bonus points if you can say that you remember her as that girl trying to knock off "Jake" in the Blues Brothers!
(She must be sick an tried of always being compared to Princess Leia by now !)
*watches Deep Sunshine again*
What a band. What a song.
ehehehehehe
Surfin Bird
Dont worry, its not the song!
phew, luckily i was with mum this time, but a huge spider just ran across the lounge floor.
I am sooo staying up north.
Old house?
They can't keep away can they? ;)
They are ganging up on you
they were calling Amy earlier.
very old house :( plus it's in the countryside, and they have been harvesting this week.
:( 4 in 5 days :( we usually see 4 a year.
Ahh the perfect storm :(
What kind was it?
this sounds like the beginning of a Steven King novel.
Maybe you should put a spider sized sign outside your house saying "shoo!"
*pulls up comfy chair, blanket and mug of coco*
a HUUUGE one. i don't generally look at them long enough to figure out what type they are :P but probably a house spider or something. you know the huge think bodied ones. :(
like on a post it note?
Hello sidepodcasters
I've survived my holiday intact....
yeyyyy, how was it?
It was a dark and stormy night, and the captain said to his mate, "tell me a story". And so he began...
It was a dark and stormy night, and the captain said to his mate, "tell me a story". And so he began...
It was a dark and stormy night, and the captain said to his mate, "tell me a story". And so he began...
You get the idea with that one... ;)
Wow!!!! Knights of Cydonia acapella!
That... is amazing.
Hello!
go anywhere nice?
welcome back!
Hi Alison.
You picked a bad time to go cycling
pardon the question... but... sore bum?
Welcome back to the world of sidepods ;)
Good holidays?
aha, glad you asked, we were all wondering ;)
are you a cheeky boy?
(blush)
There must be a reason for these questions but i am very confused!
She went for a mammoth cycling holiday :D
Hah, not particularly.... You get used to it.
I had a great holiday. We're still speaking to each other which tbh is more than I expected :)
And the bike didn't kill you? I say that is a cause for a celebration
:D welcome back Alison :) did you have a nice time? get a tan etc?
ahaha, wooo
You must both have thighs like Chris Hoy
Ah, I have always wanted to cycle with mammoths
:D
The only major issue is that the spokes on my bf's bike broke and I had to carry ALL the luggage for a day and a half until he could get it fixed. Bad times.
I was thinking of you all going through Germany when they announced you know who wasn't coming back. They were practically crying in the streets over it.....
Their hair gets caught in the chain, it's why they almost became extinct
:D yay :)
:D :D
Seeeee. Bikes = evil Therefore trying to break your own bike so you stranded, therefore bike kills you
the BBC shock follow up to walking with dinosaurs?
hahahaha!
:P
Cue Fleetwood Mac!
My bike is evil - but I effing love it!
I'm so gutted today. Friends have come over today with their kids, taking advantage of my hospitality - so they could go see Walking With Dinosaurs without me. How mean is that?
But weird - and he's naked!
Also, I know this is probably unmentionable, but did more news surface regarding Max?? The German tabloids had him splashed all over the covers but my German's pretty bad and I can't work out if it's a new incident or just a rehashing of the original.
My stomach's not up to using Google on this issue....
Bikes have been causing all sorts of trouble since you left. RG has had problems. Kathi's bike did this http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/00002-jpg to her sister and A1GP driver Neel Jani just broke his elbow.
Just reliving some classic gaming memories:
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=FB7C8C4E511B951A&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL
Would anyone agree this soundtrack is one of the best ever?
Problems. Bit of an understatement.
Haven't heard a thing about him other than he is not standing for re-election.
we know nothing?
And my Danish Teacher had an accident which cancelled my lesson...
Hehehehe. I remember that soundtrack well.
I always thought the one for Ridge Racer Revolution was better...
Tabloids can be very funny when they look for a "stock" photo for an article!
There's such a great combination of about 3 different music genres in all and yet it all fits together brilliantly.
i crashed into 2 cars on my bike...
How can you favour that soundtrack over RRT4's?! It's simply epic.
Because RR4 never had 'Rrrrrrrrrrrrrridge Racer!' ;)
Rage Racer had a fantastic ost too.
He's settled lawsuit with Bild - a good excuse to show the pictures again perhaps?
http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/090808100011.shtml
It was the bike's fault?
Tis a GMM story, but i would be inclined to believe the jist of it
Yeah but still...
Because it was very energetic and very awesome
Totally my fault, but also the cars fault for pulling out then stopping on a clear road when it was his right of way...
I remember this now from the fantastic Formula 1 97, used to come on before the races in the championship mode...
Good times were had. :)
I feel pretty fit now yeah. It's alright though. Plenty of time for me to get unfit again before I have to do any more exercise....
I'm sorry to hear about all your mishaps :(
And yes it was Bild it was all over, that pretty much explains it. Thanks for sparing me the indignity of looking that up myself....
Again, the original had 100x better music.
Best. Intro. Evarrrr! - Especially when you consider games before were mostly blocky graphics and cheesy beepy music - this was AMAZING!
I'll agree with you on this one. Joe Satriani and Steve Vai FTW!
Although, I do love this intro! Rubbish game itself, but the intro and the music in it is epic!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4dLoBEsTuk
Night all - keep the revs up and hit those apexes ;)
Erm...will do?
aha, night gavin :D
Night Gavin
Adios Gavin for yet one more night.
night :)
Anyone like scalectrix?
They're only going to build a circuit around the 2.75 miles of the original Brooklands circuit
a 2.75 scaeletrix circuit?!
*2.75 mile, of course
yes.
Oh wow that is awesome.
James May's organising it as well!
Oooooh, in other F1 related news, I drove round the Nurburgring with bicycles on the roof of my car.... We got a lot of strange looks from people zooming past in their Mercs!
Ah, found the link now: http://www.pendleslotracing.co.uk/html/events/brooklands_festival_09/james_may_scalextric_record.htm
awesome indeed
He's also building a house made of lego to live in. The man is crazy.
James May is doing it and it's about a mile longer than the previous record Scalextric circuit. They are supposed to be building the banking out of lego.
They can't build it round the original Brooklands track because some of it is now shops.
*Packs scalctrix Jaguar*
How can you wait this long to tell us that? Couldn't you have parked the bikes somewhere?
Won't that be mighty bumpy? Or was that just my tracks?
Hahaha. I drive a Fiat Panda. I don't think it was ever at risk of breaking the lap record.....
It seemed kinda surreal tbh.
I wish I had kept my Healy 3000. Kids should never throw away toys
Brooklands itself is very bumpy.
I mean how ridiculous is it that you can see the word yawn and it might make you yawn. {Comment #537}
I was doing the first half of my First Aid Revalidation today and part of it covered yawning. I couldn't stop doing it for a good ten minutes afterwards, much to the amusement of the rest of the class...
Anyone else seen this?
http://blog.seattlepi.com/microsoft/archives/176223.asp
seems like prettty major news
I have been planning on buying a bike. Now I'm not so sure. Perhaps I should stick to swimming.
do both and the enter a triathlon?
Swimming much more safer.
Plus the chance of drowning is less than your bike killing you
Parenthetically, I'd become a bit of a standing joke in the class before that happened. When I did the original course three years ago, the instructor told me to read through the book every month to keep everything fresh in my brain. This I duly did.
The trouble was that the other three people in my class hadn't looked at their training materials for three years, meaning I ended up getting most of the questions because they needed to be reminded of everything all over again. Which I did... ...with answers that were somewhat long and occasionally quite precise (because I'd memorised them from the book). I've therefore ended up with the nickname "Dictionary Corner" and a reminder about every three questions to let someone else have a go at answering questions, however often this resulted in long silences followed with "Er... ...dunno".
It was quite a strange way to spend the day, especially as the practical side had a few changes. The main one being that we are now apparently meant to time our chest compressions in CPR to "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" and "Nellie the Elephant". Which is fine (if rather strange), but I can't sing and do CPR simultaneously. After several disasterous attempts, I'm going back to the time-honoured method of simply counting the compressions...
Was seen a couple of days ago. Most assume MSFT will appeal etc.
They actually have a narower patent on XML, granted after the one in question, so the whole affair is still up in the air.
I'm not so sure after the other day. There didn't seem to be much air under that water.
It was around yesterday. The company that sued Microsoft sells to them so it is a pretty stupid move. It will be settled out of court.
I have been planning on buying a bike. Now I’m not so sure. Perhaps I should stick to swimming. {Comment #1016}
Doing two different sorts of exercises is healthier than one because you work different muscles different ways. However, I'd recommend getting used to the swimming before introducing cycling into the equation.
I used to do triathlon quite seriously. I'm just trying to revive my body, years down the track.
Water is about 80% ocygen so should be better for you than air.
Awesome, what type? (i.e super sprint/sprint/olympic)
At least they didn't suggest Stayin' Alive, which someone on the radio here was suggesting the other day.
hi sidepodpeople
Olympic, followed by a few crazy years of Ironman
wow
you're insane, i really mean that, clinically insane
The important question then, are you on wikipedia?
Oh, definitely. You can be sure anyone who does those is completely barking mad.
I'm better now.
I never said I was any good.
Randomly, i used to be on wikipedia...until the mods realised that i wasnt an ex Formula 3 star who'd also racing in FRenault and FBMW and karts...whoops. My ellaborate prank to fool someone worked though...
Hi Guille
evening squire
Hehe! :D That's a great idea
Hey Guille :)
but your trying to go back, you miss those crazy days... :-)
Newcastle players aren't any good but they end up on wikipedia.
i even found a picture of an f3 guy at monza who rolled his car and convinced said friend that was me, and thats why i hadnt been racing since she'd known me. twas hilarious
you're... I hate when that happens...
I need to employ a fan club
you've come to the right place :D
I'm just trying to loose these 15 Kg that seem to have come from somewhere. It's the only way I know how.
I dont know... i think swimming is what got me sick!
It certainly seems to have hurt my arms. I always worry about all those other people in the pool.....

the price of fitness seems to be some craziness ;-)
My first session killed my arms, i dont know if i forgot to use my legs, i certainly used them the next day!
Where do you do your tumble turns? That's the best part.
I remember learning them. I was soo good in practice, but when it came to showing off to everyone else at the end. Lost my moment in the sun with some Piquet-esque turns
I don't want to be crazy any more. I want to drink beer, and sleep in :-(
One of my ridiculous friends dad's has one of those... its impossible, much more fun to turn off the saftey and let it pin you against the back of the pool :D
I suspected you could never get the water speed right?
why impossible?
It had quite a few settings, i couldnt work out how to do it... Like i said... pinning was fun though :D
I was not fit enough :D
ooooh.
I love how you call him your ridiculous friend :D
He is ridiculous. I would tell you more stories, but they are too ridiculous.
Ahh, i love people like that
