Even in the year 3000 he can't find it. Now I just feel bad.
Ahhh! It's Friday the 13th! Everyone hide! Actually, don't do that. Come out and enjoy another new day where there's plenty to discuss even if there's not a race on. Have you had a good week? Luckily the weekend is nearly here and we can all have a bit of a relax, phew.
Paddock News
Wanted: Leader, must be able to lead, preferably made of lead - Whatever Rubens wants, he should definitely get and right now what he wants is a pack of Doritos. No wait, that's me. Rubens wants a leader in Williams to guide them back to awesome times and you can't really blame him for feeling like this. I have a sneaky suspicion people will just accuse Mr Barrichello of being a bit broody and moany about things but you can't fault him for actually speaking out in honesty at Williams in tough times.
Blame Sutil. No, literally, this time you can - Bit of an odd situation seems to be coming out of the Chinese GP weekend several weeks ago with the news that Adrian Sutil caused a bit of mayhem in a club and ended up cutting one of the Renault big boys. There's all sort of rumours which I'm not gonna even bother speculating but Joe has a fair round up of everything and gives a bit more clarity and thought to the deal. It's all gone Eastenders round 'ere, I tell ya. GET OUT MA PUB!!! Plus this doesn't exactly help Sutil's crashy reputation does it?
A Good Cause to be Connected To - Good bit of stuff this is from Sauber and especially Kamui Kobayashi for setting it up and funding it. You can purchase an app called 'You are Connected' on the iTunes Store that features handwritten messages and notes from the drivers, team bosses and whatnot of F1 with the funds raised for this oh so delightful 79p app going towards the relief efforts in Japan. It's a brilliant idea and you can find out more here, after you've bought the app of course.
Elsewhere...
Make it snappy or I'll think of an even worse pun - A bit of controversy seemed to flare up in recent events in regards to the use of creative commons licensed images and various photographers on twitter so Mr C has put together this blog post just discussing the whole deal with F1 photography and how the photographers are perceived with their work being shared out. It's a good discussion. Although my knowledge of F1 photography is pretty poor and I usually have to ask Lou about this kind of stuff as that's what she'll do one day and do it very well too. Coz' she's awesome and very lovely. I'm totally not sucking up here, honestly.
Is this the real life? is this just fantasy...racers? - Oooh, we do love a good graph round these parts. There's nothing nicer than a proper pie chart to get stuck into sometimes and as always resident grapher and general statistics genius Gavin has provided us with his latest update looking at the fantasy racers scores for Turkey. I also like Gavin's blog as it has one of his photos from Spa as the header and reminding me of Spa last year gets me all fuzzy and warm inside like a Tickle Me Elmo is tickling me. he's also gone ahead and taken part in the fabulous re-invigoration of Thursday Thoughts over at Viva F1 with his own thoughts about DRS. Good man.
I hope Sam's Town has developed into a prosperous city now - ah-ha, this is most excellent news from those fabulous Las Vegas boys known as The Killers. I do miss the Killers but it seems they're going to start work on their next album in the next week which is, quite frankly, pretty awesome. Although let's go for more of the Sams Town type of stuff and less of the Day & Age nonsense please chaps, if you'd be so kind. Although now I'm just being spoilt, it's good to have them back.
Always listen to two sides of the story, or just the one sentence maybe - Having a bit of a self plug here, I hope you don't mind. Yesterday I thought I'd give the whole challenge of one sentence stories a go on my blog and it was pretty fun actually, it's surprising how much depth you can put into a single sentence even in the simplest of forms. It's also not long left to go with my 30 Day Music Challenge so if you fancy seeing what I've chosen so far here's the big ol' list of stuff so far right here. Sometimes self plugging feels a bit rude but I wanted to share them. It's kind of like getting some time on television and just going 'Hey! Everyone! Come read my book!'. Maybe I am destined for Daybreak.
And Finally
A few little things this week as I don't want to make the daily too long...
How to Make a Radio News Bulletin - Janna tweeted this yesterday and it just made me laugh so, so much. It is actually spot on as well which is mental.
30 Secrets you may not have noticed in Portal 2 - The best game in this generation of gaming just has so much to offer and if you've completed it you have to read that. The article does come with mega super huge spoilers though. Also Stephen Merchant has been talking about his role in the game too as the fabulous Wheatley.
And that's that. To close the daily I'm gonna share this quite incredible stop motion video from the music video for rippled by All India Radio, a video that took 6 months to make and I promise you won't regret watching. Love the little wandering kitty just exploring in many different lights. Stop motion videos always, always blow me away and this is no exception. Lovely relaxing song too.

That's a great video, really nicely done
Bedtime, going to have to skip the DRS post as I'm too knackered to write one... not that I have a lot to say anyway.. will read everyone else's tomorrow night and may contribute then
Night Pat
oh, i so love this daily picture!
top daily post. i'm with rubens too, good on him. he's not moaning (although he is wrong about not using drs in monaco) and i love this quote:
"I can possibly recruit more people, look at other teams. I can."
sounds like he's nominated himself, right there.
what the?
You're seeing the wonderful image above because your website doesn't contain any published content yet.

Evening/morning all.
I went out for 2 pints and the landlord got me drunk after i started talking about f1...
This knowledge is a curse i tell ye
Hey Nick
that makes it sound like insider knowledge, i was just explaining schus cheating and drs
he's cheating with drs? how?
hehe, seperate topics...
..but now i am begining to suspect you may be on to something :P
oh. carry on!
its 4:26 and alison will arive in a little over 24 hours, i should probably sleep, night all! :)
Oh, Nice timing :D
Evening. This is not the best place to be talking about my headache as the Sidepodland Hospital Witch_doctors might want to decapitate me as a cure....
Very effective, fatal, yes, but still an effective cure for headaches....
How is everyone else?
top notch. christine is back today, sensible food, yay!
Ah, they've gone all Midland on us (their site spent the first 10 months of its existence as a "Site Under Construction" page).
Fine, thank you.

Morning. I see Team Lotus are onto their website not working: http://www.whosay.com/teamlotus/content/44950?code=izdk4U
Good morning world.
I am trapped in a boring french class. Fortunately we are in the computer's room, hehehe.
Sacre bleu! :D
Bonjour, monsieurs et mademoiselles. ;)
We are preparing an oral presentation about Carcassone...And our computers are as old as Nuvolari's first car.
morning everyone
hey Leigh
hey gavin,
how are you today?
good man. Glad it's Friday though. How are you?
same - glad it's friday, but i'm exhausted more than anything else
I feel the same. Been a long week but the seminar was cool. Lots of nice applied technology on display...
I saw Joe's post about Sutil last night - it all seems somewhat strange.
I wonder if people kept quiet about it because it was in China?
Thinking it was more of a "what happens in F1 stays in F1" kind of thing
yep.
#Indy500 update
All rookies has passed the rookie test, bar James Jakes who suffered a mechanical failure during his run.
Jakes has completed 3 of the 4 phases so far.
Just for comparison, how fast was Milka last year?
Also it's great that we have more than 33 cars and a few rookies this year - feels like a proper Indy 500 again...
Yep - 41 entries. Bump day will be mega!!
:D
Milka never set a Quali time. She was flagged off for being too slow in every attempt. In practice, she ran between 216-222mph, depending on the conditions (wind speed, etc...), but was generally near or at the back every time.
So she's slower than a rookie then?
There or thereabouts, but the 216 speed was on a slower day, yet her 222 would still have her last. Both Beatriz and de Silvestro beat her easily last year in practice and Quali
Found a video based on that article I linked to about Ayrton Senna as a Rally Driver a few weeks ago in my Daily: http://www.f1talks.pl/?p=8164
I just had my mind blown, I keep the ING Renault bag the 2008 Singapore program came in at work for when I buy groceries on my lunch break and feel too cheap to pay the 10c for a bag at Aldi.
So I've had the bag for almost 3 years and only learned tonight that the logos on the side glow in the dark. It makes so much sense, I mean, it came from a night race. How did I not realise before!
Because of the floodlights?
:D They should've made a glow-in-the-dark livery too.
probably :D
This must be the first time I've bought groceries home in the dark. Stupid winter.
On the flip side for us it gets dark at 10pm now which makes going for runs in the evening a lot easier...
Do you often shop at night with no lights on?
:)
October needs to hurry up so we can swap back :D
My boss has said its OK for me to come into work earlier on the days I want to run so that I can get home in time to get one in while it's still light. I like the flexibility of my hours.
I set my alarm at 7 this morning to see if I'd feel like a morning run since I missed yesterday nights because of biblical rain. Nope. Alarm was turned straight back off :)
Oh yeah ... the winters here are terrible. I've basically had to start from scratch with my running!
That's really cool!
I've never been able to run early morning - the earliest I have gone is 10am...
In a roundabout way it's still sacrificing sleep for running but it's not as painful. My favourite thing to do after a run is shower, put my pjs on, then get into bed. Can't do that in the morning!
Oh I could never sleep straight after a run - I'm way too full of endorphins for that!
I never sleep, I just like being super comfortable :)
Phew! I thought their site would be down for months when I saw that dreaded notice...
Morning guys. Bit of not very good news about the teams and the hopeful return of testing...
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91347
#confidentialfrommrc
Thing is though, the reasons against bringing it back are really quite sound.
Extend the number of sets of tyres that can be used on Friday to promote further running - make FP1 & 2 longer if needs be.
They'd need to extend the number of engines and gearboxes allowed too, since at the moment both are regulated on Fridays (partially in the case of gearboxes, fully for engines). Also they'd need to be OK with a lot more bits being flown a greater distance around the world and for more predictability in an already more-easy-to-predict-than-before race...
I want to sing this website like a duran duran song
dududahahlalalaa birds on twitter

True too. The other issue is there are no longer any test teams. Is Todt mandating that teams hire entire new groups of engineers just to a few brief tests every year?
The squads as they are already being pushed to the limits with the longest seasons in F1 history - why this obsession with driving people to braking point?
Broken people are easier to control, but I think the real reason is that there's a lack of joined-up thinking in F1 (as usual).
I disagree with broken people being easier to control. It only promotes errors and inter-sport apathy.
It does those too, but from the perspective of the powers-that-be (and yes, I consider all three to be bad things)...
gaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
*boom*
how come the teams have a say these days. i preferred it when max told them what to do :)
The powers-that-be must realise that if they go down that route, it could potentially cost the sport some brilliant engineers and designers.
You'd have thought so...
i'm pretty sure adrian newey coped with testing just fine.
Because Max telling the teams what to do nearly killed the sport and caused numerous disasters along the way. You might not like them but sometimes they have a point.
yeah.... that's why a put a smiley.
It's not just a question of brainpower - too many races and tests can kill.
Oh, sorry. My sarcasm detector needs cleaning.
really? how many people have died in f1 from too many races and tests?
That wasn't sarcastic by the way, just metaphorical.
adrian newey is one man (and an extraordinary one at that) - the wider needs of the sport need to be considered
as do fans.
exactly why more Friday running is better - it's exposed to more fans while achieving similar goals.
hello folks.
I suspect at least one (John Walton, who had a heart attack in 2004 after a jump from 16 to 18 races in the old high-testing regime). These things are difficult to prove as they stress-related deaths tend to reveal themselves as aggravation of pre-existing medical conditions and sudden, unexplained heart attacks. We're already up to 20 races and effectively 6 tests (the straightline ones) and adding testing would make things more difficult in terms of workload.
Hello!
There are lots of examples the world over of people working themselves to oblivion. It also shows scant disregard for the human element involved.
There is a reason why NASCAR has the highest divorce rate in sports for behind the scenes crew.
That's quite a selfish viewpoint.
Hi Journeyer
most people are at work on fridays. why not f1 testing on non-race saturdays?
Wow. Didn't know that.
Because then you have to make a special trip out for them.
Maybe Bank Holiday Mondays? (These would also be after the race so it doesn't make the races themselves too predictable).
because it's less practical to spend the same amount of money just to go to a test.
ala MotoGP? Not a bad idea.
if you say so?
i loved f1 testing, it was one of the best things about the sport before they killed it. f1 races aren't value for money.
none of the people at the f1 tests i attended look remotely tired or overworked. i'd suggest some saw it as an easy day out of the office.
Precisely like MotoGP (except that since only a few tests a year appear to be wanted, there wouldn't need to be any in races that are followed by a normal Monday).
...in the days of test teams? The ones that didn't go to races?
of course. that's what i want isn't it? i don't expect f1 teams to test down my high-street. that would be selfish.
really? based on interviews i've watched, most drivers find it more tiring because they have to drive more for longer hours (9-5).
John Walton didn't look overworked before he dropped dead either.
People do get these things backwards... It's the same thing as the photographers in the other thread. It's no use a photographer saying, "I like black and white photos best I will do all of my photos in black and white". And then blaming the customers for having bad taste because they want colour photos. People aren't F1 photographers just because there is such a thing as an F1 photographer (although I'm sure that's what many of them think) there is a job called, "F1 Photographer" because there is a global demand for photos of F1.
This is the same thing as the concerns of the sport F1 doesn't just exist to serve itself. It exists as entertainment (this doesn't mean they should script it, genuine sport is entertaining). People have to want to watch, that is the main point of F1. It doesn't just exist and need to serve itself.
Too much backwards thinking from the people running it methinks
yup.
I agree with this.
exactly.
agreed.
It would be a special trip out for every single individual involved in producing the test. Considering they're already doing 26 trips a year in-season, that would be a lot of additional stress on each person.
exactly why the teams don't want it back. in an age where the RRA is king, they can't afford to hire a dedicated test team.
MotoGP style testing or turning Friday into a test day might be the best idea. Not sure how it would tip the balance in F1 - I kinda like the uncertainty right now!
take away my 3 day F1 visits and I'll be a sad puppy. Whats the point in going alll the way to another country for two days :D
Which are now no longer possible due to the requirements of the Resource Restriction Agreement (and no, a cost cap wouldn't solve it either unless every single staff member was exempt).
The argument that people in the sport can't do more races or more tests because of the stress doesn't hold water. If people are stressed they need to hire more people. The argument that it isn't cost effective because you need to hire more people does work. The stress part and death part is a red herring.
sure they can. sooooo much PR and sponsor stuff used to happen at tests. williams don't have any sponsors in part becuase they stopped looking after them.
teams don't know what's good for them half the time.
Failing to see the point here. You want the race teams to satisfy you with tests as well as the races and factory hours?
Complete disagree. When those involved suffer health or social problems because of "demands of sports fans", then fans are simply in the wrong.
maybe they weren't cut out for it. i'd be crap at working on the stock exchange, it would kill me. so i do something else instead.
They can't hire more people due to RRA. They'd end up in regulatory hot water if they tried breaking it and the last time the regulations were attempted to be modified to allow more, it nearly broke the series. Not something Jean Todt is likely to risk.
never said that. i like the idea of a test teams.
They could hire more people. The same person doesn't have to go to all of these things.
Well Todt is going to force it on them for 2013 :)
That sort of attitude will end up reducing the level of talent and skill in F1 - the talent will simply end up making other series with more sensible timetabling stronger.
agreed. the RRA is a nonsense problem that the teams themselves brought on themselves.
"i can't employ more people because i said i can't"
well done you.
same issue - the idea of tests teams only operating for a few days per year is also non-sensical
They do in a world where the rules only allow 350 people now and 280 people next year.
♥ jean.
This is how negotiations work though surely...
Todt: I want in season testing
Teams: We can't do it because of the RRA doesn't work
Todt: You want to increase the RRA?
Teams: Only if you give us something in return?
Todt: Like what?
Who knows what? The people who make the regulations are the same people negotiating in the room.
The only alternative offered would have made cheating compulsory and been illegal to enforce under some national laws that were relevant to certain teams involved.
agreed.
Money. its all they ever want.
does the RRA run out in 2013, how can todt force testing on teams in two years and not one? if it does, the cost of f1 is going to go up anyhow, why delay things by a year.
Several teams desperately don't want RRA increased (pretty much all of them with staff numbers smaller than Force India, meaning half the grid) because it's helping keep them in the game.
You may argue that F1 is the pinnacle of single-seater racing and that if you can't keep up you should get out, but when half the grid objects on the grounds of competitiveness, the sweetener would have to be humungous.
The Concorde Agreement on which RRA is based runs out in 2013. RRA without Concorde is meaningless from a regulatory perspective.
Todt can force the test system on the teams, but the teams won't let the costs go up otherwise they will use the powers they have to leave F1 en masse.
2012, not 2013
How can it be 2012? The document only got signed in 2009 and it's a five-year term.
what they want is a set of dedicated days put aside, where they can woo sponsors into giving them more money, by bringing staff closer to f1.
track walks, pit tours, hospitality etc where the pressures of a race weekend are not apparent. but the cars still scream.
if only such thing existed...
Really? I was under the assumption it was 2012
That would be of zero assistance to the teams because they still have to have the huge outlay to get all that stuff, which for the small teams doesn't work out because the big teams end up with a better offer.
todt said:
"it will be in 2012 if we get enough [support]. It is something that we are going to present at the next Formula 1 Commission which will be on the Thursday in Valencia, and if not then, we can implement it in 2013 without any agreement."
they're going to have to do this, why fight it?
Due to Concorde not applying in 2008 (except for three teams who signed a different agreement before signing the current 2009 one), the due date is 2013.
The agreement signed in 09, runs out December 31st 2012.
cheers. in that case, yay for f1 testing returning in 2013. w00t!
There are ways and means of doing it. Fighting is the only way the teams have of telling the FIA that they are going to harm the sport with a given proposal, so if they believe that, it's what will happen.
Strange. Oh well...
it makes sense, which the teams clearly don't get. with new engines testing will be important again. it isn't now because the engines are 3 or 4 years old.
Close....
good point. todt says he's doing it to give new talent a chance (and i guess to stop rubens stealing all the seats forever), which i think is a better point.
Testing is important now for several reasons and the teams are still wary.
As an aside, does anyone here have any idea when Sky's premiership deal is up for discussion?
Maybe I'm being an idiot, but it's proving difficult to find in Google...
Wikipedia suggests the end of the 2012-13 season, it doesn't mention Sky but the rights for the other channels end then.
Interesting... cheers sir
As far as I know, I believe Sky's contracts with golf and rugby might be coming up around then too. Don't know about cricket.
Ooo, it is 2013 :) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7875478.stm
Cheers, but theorising and keeping my brain ticking over.
I may be wrong... But I can't understand how if say the goodwood festival of speed can have an F1 car run up a hill and sell tickets to the day and presumably, you know, makes money from it... That having all of the F1 cars at a track for a day wouldn't interest people to come along (if it was done right) and it could make money?
If they teams can't organise this I don't think they should be contemplating organising a breakaway series.
they should do, but the money making is left to circuit organisers and silverstone didn't seem that interested. they were happy with the cash for teams testing there and make token efforts to let fans in.
if f1 teams don't have any sponsors it's all their own fault. they cut off their own lifelines, no-one else did.
I agree with you, but remember Goodwood has fantastic access and hospitality. Not to mention many more cars and there will certainly be a lack of access given by the testing teams.
Why is it left to Silverstone?
If I wanted to organise an event at Silverstone I could do that surely?
I take your point, but this is crazy... why will there certainly be a lack of access? The idea would be to sell much better than usual access.
teams rent the track for testing purposes. they have a number of passes for hospitality, but they didn't get involved in what areas of the circuit were open, or anything else.
i love this time-lapse video: http://vimeo.com/23560119
(nb: features prominent guinness brand placement)
Forget previous testing experiences...
What I'm talking about is what the teams should be doing anyway... Bernie has all kinds of restrictions on them... But they own their own teams and they are in an organisation together FOTA. FOTA could, for example, host a day at Silverstone. Sell tickets to it, sell paddock passes for more, have stands from each team, take the motor homes allow people inside. Have signings, etc.
No race, just testing on track, but away from the standard pressures of the race they can give more access.
You'd have to think they could make money from this no? Forget whether they even got good test data.
And then they would have more of a stick to beat Bernie with... Look at us making money away from you...
the last time we went testing, teams shuttered the garages to keep fans out and in barca this year turned up with fake cars for people to photograph.
clueless is the word that comes to mind.
Simply, the teams will not want to give access, i.e. have people crawling around the pits and looking at all the naughty bits. Otherwise they will bring extra cars (static display) and have show those.
agreed. they should be able to.
they would, but i don't think they have the ability to make that happen. teams appear to need a leader, be that max or bernie or todt. historically they've always lost out because of this.
so so so pretty!
Yes... And look at the last time the teams had lots of power it was when Bernie was in charge of Brabham.
Essentially we witnessed the wholesale takeover of F1 by Brabham.
Bernie - Ex Brabham
Charlie Whiting - Ex Brabham
Herbie Blash - Ex Brabham
etc etc.
I always liked the idea (ok, my idea) of allowing the teams to bring an extra car to Eropean races. There would be extra sessions (2 hours every day?) where you can only run the third car. Further, only test drivers can drive in these sessions.
as i said when i first came in... who let the teams decide anything?
fota is the worlds most pointless organisation. they only remotely useful thing they have done this year is promote kamui's app.
note, the didn't even create it, they just managed to agree that it was a good idea.
I'm not sure it is the words most pointless organisation. Surely the blunt pencil appreciation society must win that plaudit ;)
i should've said: f1's most pointless organisation. but even then, there's the GPDA :)
How about the committee that hands out penalties to Ferrari?
Not totally. I think we'll see them battle it out over the new Concorde - after that, they cease to be relevant.
that's true. i think they'll end up with what they currently have, but we'll see.
I don't normally throw to the comments for this but it seems to work for everyone else....
Anything that needs to be in Heikki news tomorrow? :D
I won't have anything until tonight, so I'm good
:D
Are Finland in Eurovision?
Afternoon all
Kai is coming to the UK, London meet-up, Wednesday June 29th
Details nearer the time [location may be the default but not confirmed]
Hooning in a Caterham, or was that in last month? AnotherF1podcast have a video of it.
I am avoiding all coverage of the semi finals so I enjoy the surprise of the final more so I don't know if they've made it or not :)
Hei-kai?
Same here. Half the appeal of Eurovision is seeing the bad entries for the first time :)
ooh yes that happened after the last one. Thanks :)
I am avoiding all coverage :)
I like to watch for a laugh really.
I will borrow your Europeanness for the night then.
I prefer Fawlty Towers
:)
If it wasn't 4 hours long, I might do the same
I had a quick sneaky look, Finland qualified, hooray!
Also hello.
I don't like today, it will improve only when I leave work.
Feel free, make sure you throw stuff at Jedward, as I would
I can't wait to see that one!
Hey Pat
Today is my last Late Shift, yay to regaining Friday nights
[until our shift pattern changes again]
Just watch the first bit with the songs. The votey bit is too drawn out.
i won't stop you
I think I've successfully avoided hearing any of their output ever since the UK X Factor has never been shown here and they clearly weren't good enough to make it outside that part of the world. But I'll boo them just for you.
Seen that before though ;)
Aww, bless. Thanks Amy
You'll understand why at the time
That's good.
Unfortunately I do know what they look like, that hair is reason enough.
Yes, but where Fawlty Towers is always funny, Jedward are funny one and then quickly embarrassing thereafter
Bye to lie-ins every other week but that's a small price to pay
I only plan on seeing them once though ;)
Catch ya later folks
see ya bassano
It is quite easy to avoid them here if you make it a policy not to watch any ITV channel or listen to Radio 1.

Oh BTW Lukeh, thanks for the link to my blog - hope you all liked the article too. I have noticed that I get loads more visitors from SPC whenever I get a link in the daily - by far more than twitter, facebook or any other site ;)
interesting. i really should pay attention to stats more than i do.
No problemo! I do like your graphs. Life needs more graphs.
I find the same thing with dailies by the way, although sometimes if I do a lot of annoying plugging it evens out but you'd be surprised how much the daily can boost visits...
my life certainly does. and pie charts.
Indeed: http://ilovecharts.tumblr.com/
Seems odd that JV is gonna be a Jag in Cars 2? http://www.jv-world.com/news_detail.html?Jacques-Villeneuve-to-appear-in-Disney-Pixar-s-CARS-2-37
I also get a nice boost but I think FB may be tops on a single day, usually when promoted by the SPC account. I haven't added it up properly though.
So we have Villeneuve and Hamilton. No Schumacher? I wonder who will do the voice for the Ferrari F1 car...
Smedley?
Why JV in a Jag? bacause they needed something faster than the BarF 1!
They chose a Jag over a French car, which I find odd. There's no Canadian cars to choose from. :D
and pies...
May I correct you my dear man... There is the Bricklin SV-1 (why SV? Google). There are also smaller novelty cars such as the T-Rex. On the other hand Bombardier could have had a great product placement opportunity for the Can-Am three wheeler.
Learning something new. :D
The car was produced in New-Brunswick in the early-mid 70's. The body was fiberglass but the production stability (temp, humidity, etc) and quality control was poor.
It was pitched to the NB government as a job making and industry building project.... so much for that...
Think of it like Delorean without the cocaine.
As luck would have it, I spotted one, all original on the street a few weeks ago.... Oh my was it in rough condition... but it ran.
I'm making a bacon and egg pie tomorrow. God I wish it was tomorrow already. Mmmm pie.
I have half a pork pie in the fridge... And wait a moment... It's clearly lunch time!!!!
go go go! Goodbye Pork Pie!
oooh yus.
Never heard of that before, looks fun
I've actually never seen it but when I used to have my mini people would mention it to me at least twice a week #badkiwi
I love this phrase and I may steal it.
Neither have I...
Speaking of which, I have just been invited to this: http://www.chgp.dk/en/about-chgp/what-is-chgp/
I have always wanted to but thats the problem with NZ films, they're very hard to find. I've been wanting to watch Scarfies for ages too because I am having Dunedin withdrawals :D
Scarfies is ace.
I was in 3rd form when it came out, I saw part of it then but I've never seen the whole thing right through and I think I was too young to get it then :)
And I can't concentrate now because I'm so excited that I might get to see a classic Grand Prix!
ooh that looks like something people other than me would enjoy. You'll have a great time :D
:D
I'm reading through the thread now (slowly).
I reckon the new regime at Silverstone would do much better with it.
That is exactly what FOTA should be doing.
So basically, what we're saying is, FOTA needs a Bernie?
Oooh
Classic GT and touring cars mainly. You'll have fun, I saw similar at Donington the other week.
Yes.
Wasn't that what Flavio was trying to become?
That should've been Flav. Right now, though, the guy who can best fill the role?
Tony Fernandes.
Oh dear, not Flav. Peter Windsor would do a better job than him.
agreed, except you need someone not in a team right now.
the way f1 is going... davy ryan :)
Maybe Pete can team up with Craig Pollock?
Don't want Flav. Fernandes would be brilliant but first he's got to rescue Lotus
:D
Aye - Pollock can rename his company PURE ****
hehehehehe
PURE BARF-1? (to include the idea of reusing, of course)
genius
I was thinking of something beginning with "S", but BARF-1 will do nicely
;)
True. Who's to say Tony will stay forever, though?
For an ex-F1 person... John Hogan comes to mind. He's probably too old, though.
How about David Richards?
Nice choice, but he seems a bit busy with the Mini programme at the minute
Both :) :)
Willi Weber seems to have been freed up of his commitments. :D
Yup
:)
ahh, good call.
I've managed to escape my all morning/afternoonafternoon meeting and am now on the train on my way to the airport :) woohoo!
Hmmm... Republica are on the sound system... I haven't them for a while
Classic
#feelsold
One more hour. I'm amusing myself with how the weather forecast icon on my iGoogle page keeps switching between bright sunshine and heavy showers. :)
I keep wishing the rainclouds away from Snetterton - no luck yet
ooh its officially Saturday here. Looking forward to winning the lottery tonight.
best of luck with that
poor Will Buxton, has been tweeting for days about his ride in the 300SLR with Mika and now he can't do it!
how come?
from his tweets:
Absolute nightmare. 1 of the Merc cars has been DSQ for carrying a passenger not on the books. As only Mika & JMF on books, no SLR ride. Beyond gutted but another infringement could see whole Merc group DSQ. Potential of ride with Maylander as his car is not official entry.
This is motorsport. Nothing ever goes 100% perfectly. You've got to roll with the punches. Huge honour just being here.
Sucks
ahh, that's not fun, although i did have to stop following him this week because the excitement was a bit full on.
there's somebody in my house...
did she bring food?
yesh!
hooray!
Luca di Montezemolo interview: http://edition.cnn.com/2011/SPORT/motorsport/05/12/motorsport.ferrari.montezemolo.f1/index.html
Nothing really new, other than one option for F1's future is the teams run it and he wants testing to return. :)
Boarding is slooooooow! I should be flying by now!
Instead we appear to be queueing for no reason in a metal tunnel...
Try flapping!
Aren't you hilarious... :)
it's not too late to cancel the trip
pork pies!
is she trying to tell you she wants you to be more like Giggles?
Yum yum yum!
I shot a fish in the head!
But small though... It looked bigger underwater
Standing on the tarmac? I think it might be ;)
@chrisratcliff: Anyone heard Sidepodcast? Sounds like a couple on the verge of a domestic while flicking through Autosport. Well produced though.
https://twitter.com/#!/chrisratcliff/status/69076552729624576
ahhh... possibly.
That's pretty much the size of it :)
I just had to go back through all the classifications from last year to remind myself which race it was that Heikki made Q2 in because I knew it happened once. It was Spa! I was there! I have no recollection of it!
My brain is so not built for retaining F1 information.
Malaysia as well no?
Hehehe. When we started gearing up for Turkey, I had to check that Lewis Hamilton won the previous race.
Whilst I'm all for an extended break, it is not so good for my memory :)
and thats my proof. I thought it was once and I certainly didn't think it was that early in the year!
Thanks RG for saving my daily from incorrect facts :D
RG to the rescue!
And now I shall go like I wasn't even here in the first place...
Evening. I just done shopping. Spent more than planned. Just like last Friday in fact. :D
In mitigation it was less until I added a birthday present.
:) :) :)
SuperRG.
Or more fitting since he's Northeastern.... RGman.
christine's ipad2 arrived while she was away, just plugged it into the telly and the full screen thing works perfectly. aspect ratio is correct and fills top to bottom properly.
the setting we've got it on is 'just scan' and it looks pretty damn awesome. will take a picture in a bit.
that reminds me, I was going to test it again since I've updated the iPad. I'm not sure it'll make a difference. Very odd how it's different on every TV :)
Supermarkets are tricksy like that!
I spent way less than I planned when I did my shop today. I heart Aldi sometimes.
Ok, soni made my last tweet from the cab in the way to the pub (20 min ride)
I get there and realise I don't have my keys. I literally pulled the seat out the cab.
So I figure I must have been in such a rush I left them at home.
20 min cab ride back and lo and behold they are in the door!
Currently in another cab on the way back!
#EpicFail
Told you you should just live there.
I meant comment!
Mind has cracked
Very, especially when I went to the expensive one to get the birthday present (decent card and some wine + choc).
Also ended up with wine and choc for me. Well it is payday.
Hehe, this one is in the crown plaza, so it would be acceptable :)
I'll be keeping a spending diary when I get around to it. The plan was to do it now but I'm tired and can't be bothered to do anything at all. :)
amy have you bought real racing 2?
o.m.g.
I got this app for my iPad that I put all my spending in to and then categorise and it makes pretty charts and reports for me. I was pretty good at having a rough idea where it was going before but I've gone pretty OTT with my categories with the app.
What I have learned is that I spend waaaay too much money on buying lunches at work, which I already knew, but seeing the actual figures is terrifying and is what inspired me to stock up on $2 cans of soup today :)
Oooh thanks I may have a play
theres a free version too which is what I started out with to see if I liked it, but it limits you to 25 transactions.
nooo I have gone on a self imposed app buying ban, especially a $12.99 one :(
I use Excel for my accounts, I can summarize all of the information with a few formulas
Was just gonna say, it seems a bit cheeky to have a money-saving app which you have to pay for!
and Hello all
seriously. mind blowing. seriously.
am gonna take some video.
I've started using the 'money manager' thing on the Lloyds TSB website. Seems moderately useful.
However it is Friday and I do figures as a day job so right now I'm more concerned with choosing between beer and wine.
if only they had a limited free one, every single app I've done the free version of I've ended up buying anyway, but I do like to try before I commit to anything.
Good move, I choose wine
this is the ipad filling the screen: http://sidepodcast.posterous.com/christine-has-a-new-toy
will get pics of christine playing driving games now :)
How does a racing game work on an iPad, surely if you turn it to steer, you then see it at a weird angle.
boom. huge
no, the picture is on the tv. the track map is on the ipad (like an f1 steering wheel).
or at least it is on this one.
Ohhh. Like an über version of a Sega Saturn (1in b/w LCD display on the controller)
"you better eat the rest of those pork pies, you're not getting fed tonight"
stoopid ipad.
YES!!
Quality
Just heard that Blogger has pulled all new blogposts from the last two days..
the fail whale is making it hard for me to write the twitter section of my daily. Don't they know I want to sleep? curse you whale, curse you!
Will has been saved..
thats lucky
soooo not as cool as Mika though
Never
huh?
they tweeted to say they'll all be restored, sounds like epic failures occurred :)
Ah, I saw someone say on Facebook that they'd gone down temporarily, then permanently
Have you seen these recent posts on sidepodcast.com?

Twitter iPad app to the rescue!

welcome home Christine, to show my appreciation of you coming back I've sent you a giant email to format nicely and share with the world in approximately 5 hours :D
#sorryChristine
hehehe
I'm impressed with this edition, Heikki has actually been doing quite a lot in the last four weeks! I even managed to plug Eurovision due to his Finnishness.
Nice. I want HDTV.
one more: http://sidepodcast.posterous.com/christine-in-the-driving-seat
I'm lurking in the Speed live chat with RHR, Scott Speed, Pippa Mann, Robin Miller, Marshall Pruett http://is.gd/bwqhE7
Scott Speed sez
Indycar is just different. F1 is very serious and strict and not quite as fun... but obviously they are very amazing to drive
Yo comments. Schipol is nice :D
Sounds like a drink not an airport.
that was quick! how long you stopping for?
First leg was only 50 mins and it was very civilised! I'm here for just over an hour.
The announcer lady here is hillarious. She announces names then says "YOU are delaying the flight!"
:D
Robin Miller (Speed/Versus):
Jason: quick story, I got scott's cell number, gave it to randy bernard and said he should ask scott to be in the $5 million vegas finale. by the time randy got a hold of scott, he was an Indy 500 driver
No problemo.
Question. Does not-really-that-Aussie Saturdays go Amy, Pamela, No one, No one. Or Amy, No one, Pamela, No one?
I think the latter.
That's what I thought too.
Marshall Pruett:
Judd is really smart, but a small company compared to Ilmor and HPD. Plus, Lotus isn't forking out a lot of $...
(Ilmor is doing Chevy, HPD does Honda)
although it didn't do that last month. I think it got messed up somewhere along the way because it was Pamela's turn when we were in Malaysia and we asked Paul to do it, and no one did one, and I got lost. I just keep track of my own now :)
Is it wrong that I want to wait at the wifi desk place until she announces my name?
Ah-ha. If anyone spots Pamela popping in...
:)
I wish they had announcers like that on the actual plane, so they could get on and be like 'this man just arriving and trying to sneak down the aisle is John Clark, he is the reason we're late, feel free to boo him'
Comment From Andrew H.
Scott, if you were offered a ride at Ferrari, but Gerhard Berger were running the team, would you take it?
Scott Speed ;):
dunno.. lots to consider with any opportunity that may come up
I doubt shes here now because its 4.30am but she plays comment catch up, and lurks a bit, we discuss comments over dinner :D
last image from me: http://sidepodcast.posterous.com/create-that-f1-media-centre-atmosphere-in-you
Cool. Wait a minute... go to bed!
I'm practicing for tomorrow when I have to be awake at 5am for Eurovision. Or some other excuse that sounds plausible.
Hah :)
Best go. Byeeeeeeee :)
That was fun, I stopped lurking and wished Hunter-Reay and Mann a good run (and they replied!), and Pippa answered a question too.
IRC-style fan chats with drivers are a good idea. #SealOfApproval
Pippa's lovely. Really great with engaging the fans. She makes Mrs. Goat just a teeny bit jealous though ;)
This is such a good piece by Adam Cooper, all about the Jaguar XJR-14 sportscar of 1991. There are so many F1 connections that it should be read even if you don't like sportscars!

Had a laugh today, been invited to go on celebrity mastermind, what should my specialist subject be, maybe not flags, can't be motorsport.
- @AussieGrit (Mark Webber)
Mark doing Mastermind would be fun
fractured bones and their treatment
#rankings points!

mav, sorry i couldn't follow the conversation, but tell us about gmm.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91349
Luca wants a breakaway series. I wish Ferrari would set one up and no-one else followed them.
As usual he is talking nonsense. Clearly he didn't watch Schumacher's Ferrari career if he thinks that it is wrong that you can't tell what position a person is really in because of pit strategy.
Ari is in hospital.
You are not meant to be pushing that hard in the zero car
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91360
Oh nooooooo :(
zero car?
He's Ari Vatanen, you don't tell Ari to slow down :)
lots of emails this week wanting to do some kind of advertising on Viva (just get suspicious when we start writing articles about how bad google are)
but amongst them was one from GMM which we get every now and then, offering us there services - clearly haven't seen our "Warning! GMM Content" smiley
ahhh, bless him :)
Ooh, he's rallying again!
The rally car that opens the way, verifies that the stage is secure. I have also seen 00 cars.
Hmmm... sort of talk that might have CVC worried. Not that I think that the owners of FIAT have anything whatsoever to do with this threat ;-)
Just before each stage is open for competition three course cars are sent through it, with car numbers 000, then 00, and then 0. The zero often has a famous guest driver for publicity reasons.
That was the case for the WRC anyway. I saw it on a Dave show. :)
Oh, not quite rallying then.
Before the competitors are let loose on a stage a number of safety cars run through to check everything is OK. The last one is the zero car which goes through fairly quickly too make sure that the stage is safe at speed
No just hooligans.
Typical Ari isn't it. I bet he was comparing his time with the fast guys on each stage.
Colin McRae ran his old mark 2 Escort as the 0 car on a Scottish championship rally a few years ago. THe car was totally outclassed by the competitors but he would have won by5 minutes had he entered
I dunno, when I last spoke to him in email he had been spending a lot of time in new zealand celebrating his honeymoon again with his wife whilst doing rallies across the country at the same time. What a dude.
BFF.
Or anniversary even. Worlds are hard to remember.
celebrating his honeymoon? must remember that excuse to go racing
So are words.
:)
That's awesome
#blametiredness
Escorts like these. I think one of them may even be owned by the McRae's if I remember Tony Mason rightly.

At last the official countdown has started. The launch is not till Monday so you have time to sort out drinks and nibbles
Does anyone else find it disconcerting that when you type James Allen into Google it suggests James Allen's Girls School?
I am going into hiding for one hour to write two blog posts. Maybe three. But probably two. But I don't know which two yet.
We have a supplier at work called Allen James, he delivers straw..
The first one in the first clip is in the same Rothman's colours Ari carried when he won his world championship. THe car looks identical
All of the McRae's had Escorts. They ran a motor sport show at Lanark the winter before Colin died. Alistair and Jimmy and a few others drove a number of cars including their own Escorts but even in one of those Colin was visibly faster. THat car put up with a lot of abuse but he got some speed out of it
Some say James Allen delivers a farming product too
is it horse manure? (just guessing)
Mason said they are still rallied all over the place, and more are being made to do so.
:)
Ping: Psychology of a Successful Comeback
http://www.vivaf1.com/blog/?p=6588
They are used everywhere because a lot were made at the time and anyone can easily get the information needed to set one up and parts are available. The difference when they were rallying was that there my have been a works team but there were also a couple of dozen privateers running near identical cars and winning with them.

THAT is nostalgia? Are you trying to make me feel ancient?
It's nostalgia to me!
Some days I wonder how I can still walk at my advanced age :)
:)
hehehehe.
1998 is ages ago though. It's just wrong.
Here's what I know of it: "Italy nil, England nil, and we're there in France 1998."
It wasn't even in black and white
It did have ceefax though
ahh the days of 303 on BBC1 teletext, pressing hold and unhold to get the latest scores
+1
i remember when glenn hoddle played football, and "sang" diamond lights with chris waddle, as opposed to managing england
+1
it'd be Mexico '86 for me
'98 was awesome, first time the World Cup really grabbed me.
If I say Germany 2006 I won't be helping would I?
still rocking p360 now. well maybe not as much these days
get outta here!
361 for latest race updates! :)
The digital one isn't the same, with its modern graphics and useable interface.
I can't believe that's still the same as it was when I left the UK in 96!
Oh and we left a week after the European Championships, BTW...
what you have to understand about world cups is that they get less interesting each time they come around, and it'll continue like that until Pirelli start making footballs
Same here.
You still have that?
it's so slow to update though
hello? the match finished 20 minutes ago?
:)
virgin media stll keeps you waiting for pages to load (not the same)
Apparently BBC News headlines for the website are STILL written so they can be copied over to Ceefax!
Seemed ok on Freeview last time I checked (ages ago)
We've not had Ceefax for a year, might even be two now.
In my region.
Ah OK I read this story a while ago - perhaps Ceefax is being phased out?
we only lost it last month
It absolutely is. Analogue is being switched off.
the analogue broadcasts are being phased out across the uk, so ceefax goes with it
the switch to digital is happening a region at a time, and analogue along with ceefax turned off as they go
Unbelievably slowly too.
We still have teletext here which is mainly adverts and subtitles for the deaf
this was planned years ago. i remember the days before france '98, when the rollout of nicam stereo took it's sweet time.
Denmark flicked the switch last year I think.
did anyone ever play on bamboozle, the quiz game on itv teletext? it's an app now
is it? :-)
Every week for years.Loved it
C4
It is? :) Loved that.
Loved it, not so keen on the app.
Loads of times. The app is great too!
Bamboozle was probably the closest teletext got to the internet
The frustration when you tried to play it at someone else's house (relative or something) and you couldn't find 'Reveal' on their remote
there was this experimental thing they did where you called a phone number, entered a page number, then a sub page number, you could alter the pages immediately with the phone keypad. was total rubbish, and i didn't get the billpayers permission either.
:)
Night folks
I'm watching Battle Royale and I can't cope with following subtitles while also on the computer
Night Maverick
See ya
