Hello! Welcome to Thursday 13th May 2010. We are only 4 days removed from the Spanish Grand Prix and they are at it again, this time around the twisty streets of Monaco. For the only time this year we get free practice on a Thursday rather than a Friday to allow the streets to be opened to the public again on the Friday.
On to the bullet points!!
- On Tuesday evening some of the drivers took part in a charity football match, by all accounts Fernando Alonso was perhaps taking it a bit too seriously but managed to score a couple of goals. There are some more photos here and here.
- KERS, the system they was ditched because it was apparently too costly, or the more likely reason which was that McLaren's system was just plain awesome and everyone was scared of it, is edging ever close to make a return next year. Hopefully Red Bull will have a system so Sebastian Vettel doesn't complain about that "magic button".
- In case you have forgotten what Monaco looks like, Red Bull and Mark Webber have provided us all with a video taking us through all the twists and turns of the famous street circuit.
- The link in the above bullet point, is for Sidepodcast's 3000th post! Whilst Christine and Mr C have tried to insist it is because of guest posts, a large portion of those come from you two so thank you for all your hard work!
- Random fact for you all, of the top 4 teams (Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari) only Michael Schumacher has yet to be on the podium. The last time he was on the podium was way back in China 2006.
- You should all be used to Doctor who being part of my dailys by now, and this week I have for you Karen Gillan interviewing Matt Smith and Matt Smith interviewing Karen Gillian!
All that is left is to wish you all a good day, and I shall see you in the comments!
hello brand new day
Hello Thursday!
how's bassano this thursday?
What I want to know is how Rob managed to talk Felipe through the 90 minutes
"Felipe, you're much faster on the left wing than Rosberg"
Lovely, have had an evening with friends, Guinness & chilling cheese
Almost perfect, in fact :)
:)
good to hear, chap.
*chilli cheese, though it was quite relaxing ;)
Hai! Home sweet home.
assumed you were listening to giggles radio.
Hi Alison
good morrow young alison.
Mr C, the homepage is coming on in leaps and bounds
Very impressed. Kudos
My computer has loaded with a temporary profile. This sounds very worrying to me! I'll restart it and pray. All these issues really sound like I need a new one though :( Bye bye savings..
He he, no but I did manage to buy "The book with.." and convert it for the iPad :D
it certainly is, ta.
so i saw. you'll need to remind me how to do that come the 25th.
Nick wants to go gadget shopping, do you have a birthday of half-birthday coming up?
No probs, is easy-peasy
I'm 22 in a fortnight :D
How convenient, does Nick know the rule: the further away you are from your girlfriend, the better the present has to be?
But then it's his birthday... I'm not getting him an ipad!!!
Together with the Gutenberg Project, there's so much material out there. 99% free and legal
He chose to leave, the advantage is in your favour ;)
Visa calls it the expat boyfriend rule
that's what christine is slowly converting to audio via libravox.
It rules. For those "I've always wanted to read that" titles
That's so harsh :P
I think I'll skip on the guilt trip for one day!
I must say, I wasn't a huge fan of the Daily Guest Posts at first but I'm really enjoying these links now
I think they've been a bit hit and miss but I enjoy the variety.
hi btw
good to hear. i love 'em so, so much.
everybody's efforts are much appreciated, both daily's and guest posts generally. the homepage revamp really is a testament to what happens when the pressure to keep doing stuff is lifted.
Monaco baby
8hrs 19mins and counting
http://www.twitpic.com/1n9ubg
Hi Pat
I knew you'd appreciate the Longpigs tweet :)
Potentially the only FP sessions I'll watch (retrospectively) all year. Might not be a great race but I do love Monaco.
:)
It's true
I'm hoping for lots of slo-mo
I'm guessing there's a huge potential to have a new Monaco winner this year. Both driver & team
Also, who's going to crash into Sutil this year?
red bulls must be too fragile to make it to the end?
Webber
Half the paddock's brakes must be under scrutiny
I wonder if they've asked for them to be uprated, is it Brembo?
I don't think so, unless the FI is being lapped
Then again, high downforce tracks aren't their forte
I'm gonna say Petrov
Vettel was rrrubbish here last year. Slow and then he binned it. I can't see them winning.
it's a positioning problem. newey has moved them to the optimum place for weight distribution, not the optimum position for stopping.
Ted's piece on the RBR exhaust system was very interesting. I'm waiting for Scarb's efforts
I reckon it'll be Button or Hamilton.
true, and scarbs piece on the ferrari engine was ace.
gotta be lewis. he crashed his car there and still won, didn't he?
Interesting, I assumed it was a disc rather than pad issue
We'll see if he kills his tyres
callipers i think. 1 sec.
That's on my list
Am having to find an RSS reader that I like
Don't know why I haven't sorted Google Reader yet, I guess that's next
Haha really? Rock on.
That puncture wasn't his fault though was it?
I think the Tyres are built to last this year, no competition for ultimate stickiness
all assumption on my part of course: http://www.f1technical.net/development/281
It is a particular achievement that Red Bull managed to design its brake system like this, at a time when the brake system will be pushed harder than ever.
He's still using them more than Bunsen and Monaco is supersoft territory
Someone's race is bound to get destroyed by a pit-stop maff up as well.
What difference does it make? If you're in front, how are they going to get past...?
Ooh true enough, short and narrow pitlane even though it is bigger than it was
Interesting, It doesn't seem like a cooling issue though unless there's extreme brake fade
Tyres gone, slide on to marbles into wall.
who doesn't use their tyres more than JB though?
On blown tyres, it'll happen
Just thinking, maybe Alonso is a good tip
Monaco will be all about qualy though
Is that a thumbs up? ;)
:)
that's true for every monaco gp.
that's also true for every race this season.
But what about all those classic GP clips where the car is all over the back of the other one. He just couldn't get past at all....
The only driver I can really imagine pulling off an overtake is Lewis, and I guess he doesn't have to worry about that....
heheh
That's not a kerb, that's a half-pipe!
http://twitpic.com/1n90gx
It's definitely plonk but the Echo Falls Rose on offer at Sainsbury's isn't half bad at 2 for £7
Cripes! I hate raised kerbs. It just seems unnecessary and kind of dangerous.
hello, hello, sidepodpeople...
A quick hit and run before I go to bed folks - hope you're all well
PING --> 2010 Monaco GP Preview
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2010/05/13/mark-webber-drives-the-streets-of-monte-carlo/
Guille. Ciao!
Leigh, I sent you a DM
hey buddy, how be things?
ooh, thanks
I guess sufficient braking for corners will have to suffice
hi bassano. have you survived the ash?
More or less this time round. Our next issue is a month of strikes
The volunteers will be busy
Cheers Bassano; just saw it now.
It might be a bit far out for me, I've to get to Hammersmith every morning, but thanks for the heads up.
:)
fine, thanks. I'm starting to make my dinner, I need an early night this week
Thought transport might be the key
I've got good access to London Bridge and Victoria but no tube yet
Guille: how's the weather around October time round your way?
Right now, I can get a central line and it has close to work in 25 minutes, so I'm going to try and stay in the same area - it's my current flat is... shall we say, less than desireable
;)
I couldn't believe it when I read it, a month?!? that will be, let's say, an 'interesting' month...
LB and V are 15-20 mins away plus it's tres cool round here ;)
it depends on which part of the country you're talking about.
i was gonna have one of them, i should sleep soon.
It'll bankrupt the union and I'm sure it's a negotiating tactic
Our short haul customers will suffer but we'll cope
:)
i'll see, but i lived in south london last year and the east end is nice (never thought i'd ever write that...)
anyway, it's far too late for me - i need sleep
good night all
Somehow I never manage to do it. This time I will... (but now I have internet on the desktop again, tough decision...)
You what??? A MONTH??? I thought it was a series of 2 day strikes? Obviously I need to pay more attention. That's ridiculous. I want to fly, that's going to push the prices through the ceiling....
They say they are going to strike for a ridiculous amount of tie and it coincides with all sorts of holidays. It's moronic
New gov't may be a touch less receptive than the previous, methinks union will back off.
I haven't decided yet but I'm no doubt start at B.A. And move from there once or twice. Internal flights will help
G'night Leigh
5 days on, one day off x 4
Effectively a month including recovery
Just a little post. http://toomuchracing.com/2010/05/13/an-update/
Bedtime, catch you in the morning.
Too soon for legislation to kick in
night leigh, pat
Oh my god. What is their problem..... Grow up and join the real world.
Night Pat
I'm worried I sound like Nick now #sorryeveryone
They still think they are effectively civil servants where business conditions play no part in their thoughts
Night Pat, Leigh
:D
I think they're the only group in the company that have a guaranteed pay rise after this year's freeze
[Engineering wages haven't changed since 2008, we're happy to have jobs]
Who would have thought we were privatised almost 30 years ago
It's pathetic. Don't they understand, striking over staffing levels just damages your company. Passengers then feel you can't be trusted to even run planes and use someone else so you then need even less staff..... It's just moronic thinking. I don't see that cutting staffing because you're not busy is something to be striking over. It's just life surely....
October is the beginning of spring, it tends to be rainy in some places. Here in Bariloche it will certainly be raining. On the other hand, it won't be too hot yet (Bs.As. in January is the hell). Is a bit of an unstable month, in general.
2 things
Gatwick crews have had this manning level for years
The ones with the most to lose [i.e. Work harder] happen to be union reps
I'll be quiet now but I'll just say that I used to be a Shop Steward and I've now resigned from the Union. I'm not alone
Ok, cheers. Maybe a bit more research then. Nov or Dec... Possibly
About the internal flights: you will find it as soon as you try to make a trip plan, but there are very few internal routes outside the BsAs. bound flights. Argentina has a very capital-centric air travel industry, so you have to go back to BsAs for almost every internal trip.
An example: if I wanted to go to Usuahia from Bariloche I would need to flight to BsAs. (1500km NW) and then flight back from there (more than 2500km S)
We have very good long distance bus services, though... ;-)
as a rule of thumb, the close to new year you get the more probable that the weather will be sunny and stable (and hot...)
I tweeted these earlier but I geeked out a little at this T-shirt place
http://www.twitpic.com/1n8hrw
http://www.twitpic.com/1n8i6o
Having spent 8hrs on a bus in Laos amongst others, before mp3's, smart phones or ebook readers - I'll cope... Somehow
That means January then.
Is a good or a bad sign that I can identify the names on the T-shirts without reading the description on the right...? :-)
#likeclassicscifimovies
Yup
My heart bleeds.... I spent 8 hours on a bus to flipping London!!!
You weren't sitting on a kids plastic picnic chair in the aisle for half the journey though with your toilet stop being a paddy field in the middle of nowhere
[wouldn't change it for the world though]
That'll teach you to not ask me for fares and get Nick to split the small cost
I was harassed by an indian man who wanted to take pictures of me though!! On the way back a smelly drunk man sat next to me and coughed the whole way....
After they announced train strikes, strangely the planes got a lot more expensive :P
The guy next to me was so hungry he bought chicken feet in a bag. Feet! Not drumsticks
oh, don't worry. this is really the top of the line in bus service. I've never heard of this level of comfort in any other place in the world.
it starts at the 'semicama' level (half-bed), with seats that recline much more than the first class Eurostar and that are much more padded, up to the 'super-cama' service at some routes, with seats that go full down and turn into a bed. and if the company is good, onboard service is excellent
I regularly do 20hs trips back home for holidays...
Hahaha
The indian man was really creepy though. He was fine until we all got woken up at Heathrow. After that we had a bit of polite traveller chat about where you were from/going etc which was fine. I then get my book out which clearly means conversation = over!! But nooooooo, he then spends the next hour into London asking if he can take photos of the two of us together.... I thought it was finished and he pipes up again with "oh come on, why not...." It was really quite worrying! I proper pegged it off the bus when it stopped....
Growing up in Brixton I perfected the weirdo alert a long time ago
I'll definitely be in touch nearer the time for more knowledge
No to work out how I can survive until January
Bugger, I was supposed to look at Dublin flights tonight
Yeah but there weren't any other seats. He was obviously odd but what am I supposed to do about it....
If you like the heat, it will be perfect.
AND you may catch some Dakar action...
You're not having a holiday until January???
Big deal. I did 25 hours on a Soviet train from Ukraine to Moscow a week before Xmas with nothing to look at but several feet of snow and a smelly toilet for company
Perfect your 'don't mess with me stare' ;)
ooh!
It was 5am!!!
I don't tend to travel during English summers
Plus I have Dublin, Belgium and a random weekend factored in. So, yes
I have a friend that did Paris-London in Eurolines... big mistake. She had an experience similar to your, and spent almost the whole night awake.
A ghetto ninja never let's her guard down
I guess. I need to work out when I'm going back out to Dubai. It's a nightmare....
Only Michael Palin or Bruce Parry can beat that
I've got 11th - 15th Nov :)
I'm quite assertive really. No pictures were taken.... I also had a horrid experience once with a man on a train desperate to buy me a coffee from the trolley... I was only about 16 then and it was quite traumatic for me.
Haha well that's you got me off the hook!!! :D
There must be much longer train journeys that people make
It's all about pre-emptive action with nutters
Coffee man hadn't said a word to me before the trolley arrived. He was very insistant. I was quite tempted to take the coffee and drop it on him. I'm not sure that would have been helpful though.
There's always the chance [hope] that someone will talk me into last minute inter-continental travel between now and then too
Trans-Siberian Moscu-Vladivostok?
I hear Melbourne to Perth takes 2 or 3 days
Why would you do that though other than the pure love of trains....? A flight can't cost more than the train ticket surely??
You wouldn't believe how hard it is to twist people's arms on this one
That must take 3 or 4 days
Wouldn't you fly to London if it was the same price as the train?
Australia is bigger than Europe
THe only reason I spent 25 hours on a train was because Ukraine was bankrupt and had very little oil so no-one would fly in for fear that there would be no fuel and their plane would be stuck there.
I know how complicated travel arrangements all get. I'm not surprised at all. As long as you go to AD I don't care :P
Leave Saturday arrive Tuesday
http://www.discoverwest.com.au/indian-pacific.html
Lower classes are available
I guess Alanis Morisette would call that 'Ironic'
Flying really hurts my ears. I'm not a fan at all. I've only been on a plane 7 times and I like to avoid it wherever possible! I think flying short distances is plain silly.... Also I'm 2 hours from an airport so it's never really all that convenient....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Siberian_Railway
6 days and 4 hours. I would do it if I lived in Europe...
Why do people turn down the offer of cheap business class tickets to inexpensive destinations? It baffles me
I'm guessing recline means sleeping on the floor
:D
I would take my sleeping bag, just in case....
I guess work mainly. Boooo. I want to win the lottery now please. Work is tedious.
I can't imagine I would ever choose to do that
I'm flexible. I usually give a month's notice at least
Jim Morrison was right, people are strange
Jim Morrison was strange
Well, I really like trains. And I've always been fascinated by the Siberian landscapes.
I just realised my back catalogue was on an ex-drive that has ceased to be
Am now rectifying that
Why aren't my London friends as adventurous as this?
Tomorrow's to do list is narrowing
It was:
watch FP1 & 2
get car washed
go to the sainsbury's
Hmmm
Now it's
Force eyelids to open to watch FP1
Play Angry Birds and catch up on tweets
Watch FP2 whilst thinking of breakfast
Eat
Relax
Repeat previous two steps
Seems I have a decent gap between 10:30 and 13:00 to feed myself
That was a close one!
You're reminding me my Phonso is filthy :(
How do I get a scratch repaired? Should I just look up a garage in the yellow pages and get a quote? I'm very wary of trusting people with my baby....
There are decent mobile people that specialise in scratch repairs. If you have any local forums, look there for recommendations
At least we have ash clouds to blame... for now
I'm talking about my car yeah? Can't I just take it to a garage?
I've never brought my car to somewhere that wasn't recommended. Too many cowboys who prey on the technically ignorant
I wouldn't, personally
You can have a whole panel sprayed and blended or you can have a scratch treated properly on your doorstep
Yeah see it's been ages now. I really don't know what to do about it. I don't really want to leave it any longer. It shouldn't cost too much to get repaired.... It's annoying me. I don't know where to go with it which is why I've left it.
It's more than a scratch lol. The whole front corner is scraped and the bumper is cracked :D
Filler and a local repair
Take pics and email 'em if you need to
Yeah. I guess I'll get my dad to sort it when he's back from his holiday :P I just remembered right now about it.... My parents were going to pay for it for my birthday. I tried to claim on insurance at the time but the other driver left the scene and they were uninsured so I just forgot about it.... It's really not urgent I guess.
Time for me to get some sleep before FP1. Don't stay up all night.
There's an uninsured fund but I think that's for bigger claims
Night Steven
Night Steven. See you for FP2 (stupid family dinners)
Yeah I was gonna have to claim on my own insurance. I opted not to in the end.
Unfortunately, it's often financially disadvantageous to to so
Yeah well I don't even have a years no claims yet. My insurance costs a fortune.... Anyways it's really not urgent :P I'm not sure why it just popped into my head.
ooh... angry birds..
I've played that.
Highly addictive
I distract myself with stuff like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGs6RlmeFmo&feature=youtube_gdata
bed time. wasn't an early night after all... see you!
Night Guille, am get heavy eyed myself
Till daylight...
Annoyingly I finish work 15 min before fp1 starts and its a 20 minute walk home. I don't want to miss any of monaco :(
annoyingly in the moment of madness two days ago I forgot Friday is actually Thursday this weekend. I have a meeting scheduled at the time the FP1 begins
Hello everyone.
I think this has just made me want to support Fernando Alonso all over again.
"I don't like flying because it's dangerous" oh jarno, you're a funny man
No wonder he always forms the Trulli train. Not one for the high speeds. :P
You support Alonso for forgiving Schumacher? Niiiice. :D
Hello.
:D
I support Alonso because he is back to being cool instead of bitchy ala McLaren days.
Well, I guess he can afford to be cool. By any measure, this is MUCH better than where he's been the last 2 years. Not to mention both Schumacher and Hamilton aren't even in the WDC Top 5 right now...
I love the current top 5. If anyone of them wins the WDC I'll be happy, though I remain in Seb V's corner. ;)
and people seem to keep falling out around him
Agreed. For me, it's still a toss-up between Vettel and Alonso, with Button not far behind...
Button not so much, but like Rosberg, it's his consistency throughout a race rather than outright speed that's getting him the good results.
seems to be the theme for this year. I wonder if Nico could win a WDC like his father did
Spain says no - unless he can figure out how to beat Schumacher with a car more to Schumi's liking than his.
And he's not the only man at that game - so is Button.
I do hope so, though I don't think it'll be soon. But then, he is still young.
And Button seems to be better at it. More experience, perhaps, and in a better car.
Morning all.
Live thread: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/05/13/live-monaco-2010-free-practice-1/
Morning, Christine. :D
Morning guys.Yay for practise not being on a friday ;)
Odd news of the day - Sony Pictures have picked up to do the rights to an emotional film, a film with twists and turns, with drama and humour. They have of course picked up the rights to make a movie of...
....uh, Rollercoaster Tycoon. http://tinyurl.com/34dbuzy
Sounds fun. ;)
Get Jealous Alex has a prime spot:
FP1 over and Alonso quickest. Sitting at casino sq enjoying the sunshine while i can! ;)
http://twitter.com/alexjsnell/status/13904952969
Ooh so lucky!
Although hopefully in 12 months time... :)
I don't think there is much hopefully about it! I trust Ari to be a man of his word :D
#isjealous
I do hope he remembers, though... :)
Only if you answer your phone (and get a passport!!!) :P
Nice :)
Thoughts of stuff I wrote in 2003 percolate the mind... wonder if I kept it..
he has remembered for almost a year already!
Is anyone else still on the red button?
This is the most amazing programme, it's meant for toddlers but it's just epic.
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/05/13/monaco-2010-free-practice-1-results/

:D And this is film material how?!?
morning all, did i miss anything... well at all in fp1?
Kobayashi crashed, karun spun and ant talked about Franck. Thats about it :)
Two crashes and apparently Ant mentioned FRANCK.
You beat me.
CRANE
oh and Crofty and Stirling Moss having a conversation via commentary and tweets. It was awesome.
For all you LOST lovers:
oooh. what did he say?
:)
In a world where the economy could falter at any moment... one man stands tall in an empty plot of land...
"I'll take out a loan and I'll choose where to go"
*cue lots of different places around the world being shown*
"We can have trees and plants and rides and shops and toilets!"
*cue mirage of happy families and queues and people being sick from neauseous rollercoaters*
"What are you trying to say, Bob?"
*zoom into Bob's face*
"I'm going to do it... I'm going to become a Rollercoaster Tycoon"
Coming Soon...
I like this post: http://willthef1journo.wordpress.com/2010/05/13/lewis-no-go-for-afro-regrow/
Franck drove for 4 hours and the first comment he made upon leaving his car was 'I'm so hungry"
is that points added, or points away?
Hehehe.
Wait and see :)
we haven't had a go at matt bishop for at least 24hrs, so i'm gonna claim it's all mclaren's marketing departments fault.
oh yes,you also missed lewis's roulette wheel helmet.
no dice?
not unless they're on the back. http://twitpic.com/1nd8nq
looks more like bully's prize board.
Atleast you'd have somewhere to put the speedboat
:)
I don't know what that is. I'd say school fete chocolate wheel.
The pictures shows that he used to be sponsored by Marlboro, can I start a GMM style Lewis to Ferrari rumour? :D
bah, stupid channel 7 started showing Lost 3 minutes late which means I am missing the last 3 minutes of the episode. Now to find it on their stupid on demand service that barely works so I can finish it.
If you want to listen to the Franck mention, it's between 55 minutes and an hour in....
Ooh, thank you. I am hoping to twist Mr C's arm into clipping it for me.
I'll get a clip if you like? I'm not busy
will do tonight
♥
ooh, please
Also, Mr C, whilst I am demanding stuff of you, I think we need a random post button.
can do. where abouts?
Erm.. not sure.
good spec. i should be able to do a lot with that :)
Also, ♥ look good on the homepage.
webber on getting to monaco:
Ann wasn’t too keen on driving so I had to do the whole trip myself. I did 900k on Sunday. 300 in the grand prix and 600 on the road. And not a drop of champagne.
http://blogs.reuters.com/sport/2010/05/13/f1-is-not-all-glamour/
righto!
I was thinking about a 3,000th celebration post but couldn't decide on a system of highlighting some, thought maybe random would do it, and maybe random would be fun anyway. I know how these people like the archives ;)
Anywhere i can upload an mp3 file? Was hoping flickr but it was a big no no
They're fatter.
Most of those file sharing type things do it, I think, or you could make a drop. Or I made a drop! http://drop.io/mrschristine
hehe... i send you a fat heart
Here you go then :)

I had the most fun writing today's daily. I have no idea why, it just sort of flowed. I think its because I don't have as much Uni stress anymore :D
Indeed. It sounded like Lewis was already complaining of something, then it just happened. The key difference is that Lewis managed to catch it somehow and avoid the spectacular crash Heikki had - which is surprising, because I remember from Heikki's case that he said the car couldn't be steered once he lost that front left.
Always another reason to love that man. I fear my love of baby Seb is waning :(
Oh no! But why?! Seb is more awesome than Lewis in my book. :)
No. I'm sorry. My mind is made up. I am quite fickle though so....
She's realised Seb can't overtake :P
That's NOT TRUE!!!!!!!
I haven't seen him overtake recently :P
He has. There's been several this season #betterthanbutton
We have a man looking at all our energy usage/consumption today across all our sites. He may have seen my mug with pictures of F1 cars on it and may have taken an instant dislike :)
Should have gotten a green one ;)
Why get into such quarrels? Both Jenson and Sebastian don't need overtaking to help them get points anyway. Unlike the one who has to overtake 30+ times. :P
Sorry. I don't want a row #sorrylou He just stands out in my mind as the man "most stuck" behind someone this season....
Steve Rider leaves ITV..

Hello again Daily!
I have the joy of stock take to look forward to later, boo. Must get as much work done in the next 2 hours.
Oh lovely.
I'm copying stock totals into the overall valuation sheet then checking some invoices, or my soul is slipping inevitably into a vacuum of tedium, whichever happens sooner.
I'm back in bed nursing a hangover with gadgets and tv
To balance this, I'll be up at 5am for Earlies tomorrow

When Lewis's helmet was going to change anyway. Very odd
isn't that sunday helmets?
I like this: http://www.threadless.com/submission/262386/108_References_to_LOST
Oh are there differences? that seems like a waste of 2 helmets
I'm confused. What do you mean?
Not the waste bit, that's clearly true :P
i would assume they won't risk them getting damaged before the world sees them at 2pm on sunday.
He got a new helmet made (with the roulette thing) for thursday and saturday, and then the poncy one for sunday.
ah yes, that makes sense
they've been designed for the grid walk / on board camera shots.
Couldn't he just put a sticker on his normal one for the roulette wheel?
although, still seems like a waste to just have a helmet designed and painted for 2 days.
He could do but i think its actually part of the paint
he'll give it away for charity or a competition or something. it's not like he took the time to hand paint it and he has a bottomless pit of money.
I presume someone supplies Lewis' helmets free of charge
Must be Flash :(
I like Threadless' T-shirts though
i guess so, it just makes me wince that he gets through so many because they go for £1,500-2,000 a pop (when they're plain) in the shops, plus £450+ in the painting shop
Wouldn't that miss out on a merchandising opportunity? :)
he must make that much money every 60 seconds.
I don't think it's actually been made though.
The information about the Steinmetz promotion which is on the Mclaren website says they are using the diamond encrusted steering wheels in the race and says this about the helmets:
On Wednesday, both drivers will also reveal traditional commemorative crash helmets, which also feature the Steinmetz world championship diamond crest. These display-edition helmets will be available for photography in the Monaco paddock throughout the weekend
That reads to me as if they won't be wearing the helmets as they are for display purposes but I may have misunderstood.
I lie, £3000 each.
+ VAT
I think someone will pay him to use their helmets too no? So they can sell LewHam helmets to all the cute little carting kids....
They usually do
Is there VAT in Monaco?
That's tiny money for an F1 team though. Think about how much damage they do to those cars every week. They probably spend about that on a flight between GPs
Theres vat in Britain :P
If you want to buy Lewis's helmet you can from here
I want yellow!!!
They'll get their normal helmets for free and Steinmetz will stump up for the mods. Note the helmet manufacturer name is curiously out of shot..
True, point is they pay for themselves in publicity for the sponsors
He'll get his helmets given to him because he's high profile, he'll have a deal with Arai no doubt. The less good guys will have to buy theirs though
The less good guys aren't going through multiple helmets a weekend though, are they?
So what's the beef? A helmet company wants to spend money making helmets.... Shocker. They'd probably make a special one for an ad campaign anyways....
No but they get through 5-10 a season which is still alot of money.
Okay. I thought the conversation was about a wasteful Hamilton.
I just don't like the wastefulness, it's silly.
It's Monaco. More millionaire's per square mile.
Tony looks a bit evil here: http://twitpic.com/1nf92k
F1 drivers are the guinea pigs for their entire range, the test beds.
This is probably the least wasteful way of making a helmet for an ad campaign though. At least someone's actually driving with it. Surely they could repaint it if they so wished later.
He really does :)
John Booth looks a bit Legard-esque
#SorryMrBooth
Not really, the way they're made means its hard to redo them because it can weaken them.
Just tweeted TheFifthDriver to ask for confirmation which helmet Lewis is wearing. Seems odd to me he has been going on about his special helmet when the diamond ones are for both of the drivers.
Oh okay. Well I guess some charity will see the benefit of it then.
Pandmonium T
http://www.threadless.com/product/178/Pandamonium
Is it Roulette for today and Diamonds for Sunday?
Isn't Jenson's normal until Sunday?
That quote did say "special display-edition" That kind of suggests to me that they're decorative.
but where is the waste? it's not like the thing is going to be scrapped. i already said it'll be used to make money for a charity of something.
plus, what value are you putting on PR here? you haven't factored that into any of your calculations here have you?
webber lobbed his helmet away last sunday...
What about when Rubens flew his gloves in the river?
Or threw. I didn't know Rubens could fly.
They should all sell them in their online stores... I'm sure people would buy them!
he... umm... didn't mean to do that :)
cheaper to catch though
last year lewis wore his encrusted helmet in the race: http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/129633
doesn't mean he'll do the same this year i guess.
Afternoon folks, happy to see the guy who does the voiceover on the highlights of Practice has slightly livened up since the last time I heard him.
ooh, i'll listen later. maybe he likes boats?
For Christine (if you haven't already seen it): http://twitpic.com/1nfnrv
Awwwwww.
Oh wait, it's Thursday! D'oh.
heheh
You mean my daily post didn't tell you that? :P
christine, we've moving again:
[BT said] of the 66% of the population who will have access to the fibre network, one quarter will have fibre to the home. That will have download speeds of 100 Mbps and uploads of 30 Mbps.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/10111724.stm
This is very tedious. I need to stay at work to clock my hours for the week. There's NOOOOOTHING to do it's ridiculous.
is it me or does the bbc homepage keep changing colour??
It's not Swindon again, is it?
Well, at the bottom, where it says customise, there's an option to select your colour, otherwise it defaults to Editor's Pick. So I think it probably does.
Hasn't it always done that? Or at least for a few years.
it does that. you can set it to stay to one colour if you want it to.
Because I know you have no idea what I'm talking about: http://thenextweb.com/europe/2009/11/17/swindon-uk-city-free-wifi-moving/
used to be when you clicked stuff. now it's daily.
how?
oh right. who thought that was a smart idea?
manchester, london etc
Rural areas being left out again, wonderful
You could keep it one colour before they made their recent changes.
i hadn't realised the 50p tax was scrapped?
I just got shocking pink which is OK in some scenarios but not this one. Have updated to calm, restful, blue.
it used to change when you switched tabs, right? which at least made some sense.
A few months ago I think. Even if it hadn't it'd take years to catch up.
Though to be honest after the week we've had politically anything could happen..
Yeah. but you could override it anyway if you wanted the one colour. I will admit I did like the tabs better than what they have now.
hot pink says "bbc" like no other colour, doesn't it?
When is shocking pink OK? :)
all this will do is help my brother reach our "fair usage limit" a lot faster :D
*scraps doohickey redesign*
hehehe
Woohoo, we are going for calm blue on our assignment website thingy :)
Why would the doohickey be in shocking pink when the rest of the site is in a nice greyscale?
how brilliant is this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rV6wRZRDci0
A group of employees at Google’s offices in London have taken their time to create a Google logo out of 884 individually printed 4-inch by 6-inch photographs.
Not enough time to pass the bill before Parliament was dissolved
Nice work
Google seems like a great place to work.
If it really is a relatively low cost modification, why is the F-duct to be banned next year?
Safety concerns too, I think. They don't want the driver doing too much in the cockpit.
Not everyone can be a squiddly-diddly. Like Alonso.
Move knee on straight, brake for corner
Seems ok to me
But from flap adjustment is ok?
:)
*front flap
there are safety concerns re: reattaching airflow. what if it gets stuck in stalled mode?
.... bang!
I think it was after they saw Alonso with one hand over the hole and the other hand adjusting brake bias..
It is never OK for a colour scheme on a website, but I had a pink birthday party this year and one of my friends wore her shocking pink slippers http://tweetphoto.com/22243938
All things in moderation ;)
Fair enough
Maybe we should ban inflated Tyres too then ;)
you've lost me?
That was a temporary installation, wasn't it?
I have no idea
there are also concerns over where development might go, rather than where it currently is.
Ok, I've ordered enough T-shirts for one week

Lewis' failure due rim breakage, for one
The extrapolation of the technology makes more sense
Engineer's are being stifled at every discovery these days. Pity
i guess so. i like the idea too, but i can see that f1 speeds are on the increase and i'd rather they banned the duct than say further rev limited engines.
Agreed
Reduce downforce, make them think more
Make them run old-style Hockenheim wings and mandate a small amount of underbody downforce.
Speaking of which, I wonder if the new Silverstone configuration will get the Monza/old Hockenheim low-downforce treatment, or if it'll just be like old Silverstone in terms of setup.
Only a minor change I'd think. More brake cooling than before.
back later..
see ya Pat.
Boooohooo. I've had to delete all my ancient messages from ancient phone. It's a sad day! I think I've proved to myself that I am in fact very sentimental....
Nick must have a text or three there... ;)
No save to SIM option then?
Dude, I have messages from 2005 on there!! Flicking through messages is a common pastime for a dull day at work...
You need a new phone ;)
Wow... you have hundreds of messages then? Thousands?
I have deleted messages obviously. That would be like unmanageable! But erm yeah there's a lot. Or there were :( RIP
Oh well. I'm sure it's worth it for the cash... I'm shocked by how much money people will give you for a clapped out old handset!
hi all.
Hi Lou
fancy kathi sunning herself beneath a volcano when we need her.
i think this says lewis' wheel failure was caused by an incorrectly tightened wheel nut: http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel-1/defekte-bei-hamilton-und-vettel-geklaert-1853090.html
same problem with vettel's brakes. those super fast pit stops no longer looking so super.
There have been a few pit stop wheel issues this season, has the locking mechanism spec changed?
the guns have, for speed.
Ah, cross threading I wonder
I think they are just under a huge amount more pressure timewise no? Mistakes are bound to happen.
Possibly, fluffed pit stops are one thing but I don't remember this many wheel issues in-race before refuelling was introduced
i don't remember anything before refuelling was introduced.
:D
Oooh hello Lou :)
I was 4 when it was introduced.
Evening all, I may have fallen asleep....
Hi Jon
Ah, student life :)
Shhh I'm ill! Although afternoon naps are a part of my day
I wasn't even born when it was introduced...
I was 8. And I watch lots of old races too.
What I do wonder is that not only were tyre-only stops faster in the pre-refuelling days, but I don't recall this being an issue, except maybe for that embarrassing episode with Mansell in the pitlane in Portugal 1991. But other than that, not much I can recall...
No kidding! How do you know so much history stuffs?? That's insane....
Ok I think I should re-quote myself.
I was 4 when it was re-introduced
I dunno, to be honest. I just like reading about stuff that interest me. In the case of F1, it's not just reading, it's also about watching old races (JTV is manna from heaven) and just taking it in. :)
And not just F1 too. I'd like to think I can win Jeopardy for at least a day. :)
What's jeopardy?
It's THE coolest gameshow ever. At least for me. :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeopardy
really? oooooooh.
your talents are wasted sir, you should get a blog...
And what are YOU thinking of? :P
Sidepodjeopardy....with only 1 candidate ;)
heh. surprisingly, i've tired of writing at the moment. i've taken a bit of a hiatus from writing my regular F1 guest articles. maybe later in the year.
but in any case, i prefer just joining conversations like the ones here. :)
meeeeeeee?

A halo! http://twitpic.com/1ngqsx
Mr Jon, that is LONG overdue. ;)
Looks suspicious to me... :P
ooooh yes, i remember that ;)
excellent. what date?
we might have to try the "amy solution" on you, and make blog posts from comments and notes.
It was really just waiting for someone to write the questions.
true story, we were going to do something with viva, but ran out of time..
Alex's next blog is up. He's got some great pictures of Free Practice.
This one is my favourites because of the cookie monster.
Yay cookie monster!
i pretty much took an indefinite leave due to workload. i have yet to see when i can write again. :)
:P
i meant until you start a blog!
want!
i'm not even sure when i'll start writing again, never mind blogging. ;)
we'll see. don't worry - once i've decided, you'll be the first to know. :D
and besides - when it comes to F1 history, i am but only second to a certain Steven Roy... :D
Perhaps you should add it to the Sidepodcast Store as it's on Amazon

CHRISTINE!
Am on it.

not really the exciting?:P
I was trying to find something to do on the Monday and found it, then discovered that the media process is alot less complicated than usual and so lou could probably get in as a proper snapper if she wanted too
wohoo!
Don't forget to vote if you haven't already: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/05/12/life-in-the-fast-lane-ii-part-8/
Really? I've got a few old ones knocking around
I think they are self-locking and they used to have to pull the widget to lock it.
Oops. I sent someone a work related text a minute ago without thinking. They're not going to reply now and when it gets to work time, they'll have forgotten. I'm so silly. I don't want to be pushy and message them repeatedly though. GRRRR I'm such an idiot....
I put my phone into one of those phone for cash sites and it says my phone has no value boo
Random Q: Has anyone tried MiFi from '3'?
Definitely, there are several websites who will buy an old phone from you. If you look here http://www.compareandrecycle.com they can show the best deal you can get. It depends on how old your handset is.
Everything I've tried has failed to yield a decent price
I think if it's unlocked, ebay is probably more lucrative
have considered it, if you get it let us know what you think.
Will do, thanks
I was thinking about getting something for Spa
If they are Network locked then I probably wouldn't
don't know about that either, soz.
coppola on 3d:
The 71-year-old director has similar thoughts about 3D home theater, saying TV manufacturers are pushing 3D because they want consumers to buy new flat panels at higher prices, even though it 'only costs them $75 more to make 3D TV.'
http://www.electronichouse.com/article/francis_ford_coppola_3d_is_tiresome/
I looked at those. Aren't they crazy expensive though?? Considering the pitiful bandwidth available.
Or maybe not, it seems
£10.50 is the best....bad times. Not worth it!
I looked but it just seemed like a load of hassle. I've been offered just under £50 for mine plus I've got some cashback on it. Better than nothing.
£50 for the unit and PAYG from £9.50 [that's for 1Gb]
Sounds reasonable, what are you thinking of getting?
I guess I just find it hard to think of that on a scale of regular internet.... £9.50 is what I'd pay for unlimited bandwidth for a month.
I'm just toying with it on an occasional basis, not every month
I have a new shiny shiny phone already. I've gone with 3 for amazing free skype goodness.
Well, sell the brick then. Good times :)
Yeah I guess. Would it be usable abroad though? Surely not. I disregarded MIFI really but I spent a while looking at dongles to cover a bit of non-internetness when moving so Nick didn't kill me. I think the cost is obscene though.
I'd buy a local SIM, unlocked units are available. Not sure how cheap they are or if activation would be an issue
How much browsing could I do with 500MB? I find looking up things like this really hard as my understanding fails at this basic level :P
joe says pat fry leaving isn't a problem for mclaren: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/05/13/fry-on-the-move/
but it must be, right?
Just browsing on sites that aren't image heavy isn't very data intensive
YouTube & other music or video streaming becomes the problem
Franck ping: http://iheartfranck.com/2010/05/13/franck-gets-a-mention-on-5live/
Yeah so that's no good for downloading even a few podcasts? I presume skype would just murder that?
Interesting that the development head alternated each year
10-15 min audio podcasts are around 10Mb [ish]
Depends who's out there to replace him or if the other guy becomes this year's developer only [rather than alternating]
he seems to be the less successful of the two.
Depends who is waiting in the wings
"McLaren has a few months to find a suitable replacement"
no-one, surely?
I'm they could tempt for a decent wage increase
Evening all
Hi Steven
afternoon
I thought they'd have an underling all trained up ready to slot it, seems to be the McLaren way
:)
Here is a photo from RLM of the Nurburgring 24hr entry list on the wall. 206 cars.
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1174432&o=all&op=1&view=all&subj=5508588715&aid=-1&id=1456164546
McLaren have their matrix structure and they have a few people capable of designing cars already on the staff although I can't think of their names right now.
Anything exciting happen in FP2? I only saw the last five minutes.
I so need one of these iPad jackets but $25 for international delivery is silly

I see on this day in history has been pinched already

Those can't be real
iplayer is being awful :s thursdays suck
cough
http://www.vivaf1.com/blog/?p=3524
Hello. What's up apart from the iplayer
oh I just settled down with some food to watch FP (I made my first scrambled eggs!), is it not worth bothering?
:D
I can only usually watch FP if multi-tasking, it's never riveting but you often get some gems in the commentary
i can't even play FP :( i was sure f1 would cheer me up! but i can't play it. i just 'this content doesn't seem to be working, try again later' :( i have been waiting all day! :(
I never usually watch it, I did a few times last year to see what the fuss was about, but this is Monaco
Watch the video!
FP1 was dull apart from Chanhok putting his car backward into the barrier at Massanet and Kobayshi experimenting with pointing his car straight at the barrier at the swimming pool and launching it off the new high kerb. Barrier 1 car front end 0.
Franck was mentioned
If Kobayashi makes it round Monaco, all 77 laps of it, then, well, god help us all.
if i knew what was up i'd be alright... but i'm just generally in a bad mood. it's nothing specific... which itself is putting me in a worse mood.
Will. Never. Happen :)
Do you have the red button on your tv? It can still be seen on there under Sport Multiscreen.
i do... but mum is watching tv in the lounge and i was hoping to do some work while listening to the awesomeness of Ant.. hoping he'd cheer me up..
There are audio only replays here http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00s9gt9/5_live_Formula_1_2010_Spain_GP_1st_Practice/ if that's any good for you.
Freeview red is showing last year's race
What's your countdown at now?
Or there would be if I hadn't linked you to the Spanish one but you get the idea....
hanger straight had actual hangers on it?
erm....where did you think it got the name?
50 days till goodwood... so.. not long. only 15 more days left of lessons though..
It was an airfield
i never thought about it
THat's why it was called hangar straight. I am sure they stayed there for a long time after that. I am sure I have seen them in the background of 70s races
I really don't want to know about Maggots though :)
So is that ten days gone already since you started the countdown? Doesn't time fly
It was a WWII air base
that i knew
I have never heard an explanation for that.
:)
thank you! :) it's so frustrating.. Monaco is one of my favourite GP locations.. it's just stunning and i love it... just wish i could see it :P will listen to the comms and look through todays pics i think..
Neither have I but here's Mav again: http://www.vivaf1.com/blog/?p=3463
Less obviously, the strangely named Maggotts Curve is supposedly named after the local Maggotts Moor although the only reference I can find to a moor of that name lies in Bedfordshire, some 100 kilometres away and on the opposite side of the circuit.
erm.. yes.. :)
Either my memory is playing tricks or that YouTube clip was not on that Viva F1 blog earlier today. I added it to my blog on the subject and now it looks like I am copying.
Unlikely they would name it after something 60 miles away unless the owner of that place was involved in the organisation but then you would expect to be able to find an explanation in that case
Sorry Mr C. Did not close my hyperlink properly again.
See. Countdowns are awesome
fixed :)
I am not suggesting Viva F1 are copying me.
It wasn't on there earlier. Joe had it first though.
Thank you Mr C.
Ta but for me the whole thing about Monaco is to see it, feel it, live it...
Trying to load up Radio Le Mans instead for qualifying for the Nurb.24, apparently it is mad..
Another new theme: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2010/05/13/new-theme-enterprise/
Still not right for Franckman though.
Lukeh has booked his spa tickets!!! phew!
That's good, does he have a passport yet?
not yet...

I feel I do that anyway with the guest post.
heeeeh!

nooooo :( i've hardly spoken to Lukeh in the past week cause of stupid coding :(
talking is overrated
no :P
aww, we ave a playground and everything :)
Say it with JavaScript
Mr C your coding knowledge far exceeds mine ;)

i need that on a t-shirt!
hmmm...
you need to get lukeh to write an autorefreshing communication mechanism to keep in touch.
am starting to feel for christine lol
*sigh* but what do we do while he's writing that? lol
:)
:O The page changed...
for better, or for worse?
better, of course. I just didn't expect the radical-ness of the changes. But it works. :)
goodo :)
Also, congrats on the 3000 (if that's a thing to celebrate...I think so). :)
it was 1,000 in 2008, we don't appear to have mentioned the 2,000 mark anywhere :(

am wondering if it's worth getting lukeh to make a website for me.. just cause.. well.. if he's not going to be talking to me and coding instead he may as well do something useful :P
mini mrs. c.
heh!
You are going to need a professional looking site for you photos and I am sure Lukeh and his SPC tutor are just the people to do it
hehe! exactly.. plus well.. he finishes uni in a few weeks i'm sure he'll miss coding.. it would be inconsiderate of me not to ask him.
You don't want him being bored in the summer
exactly. will give him something to keep busy with while i go into hibernation cause of exams :)
i like that i can discuss this kinda thing in the comments and then ask Lukeh later and he'll have no idea cause he doesn't read back through the comments much :D
i'm still in shock you're thinking of "asking", i wish i got asked.
He will learn to use the filter
i can't force him.. though... can i?
Ah Lou. I still have much to teach you.
can't you?
*wax on*
hehe :) lesson one - it's acceptable for me to force lukeh to make a website for me?
i don't want to seem mean... plus coding makes him a bit miserable...
It's acceptable to trade making a website for baking him some cookies or something.
no it doesn't, learning to code makes him miserable.
trifle!
ah that i can do! :)
LPG says there's forcing and then there's making him think it was his idea.
Oh Wait.
:D
I never saw Christine as Obi Wan before
trifle doesn't travel too well though... cookies will.. :) as will brownies.. :)
:D
sherry trifle?
ummmm.... i have no idea what's in it
trifle... made with sherry... i should think.
so do muffins - especially ones with wings
don't you go all "cooking is soo easy", young lady!
i'll make you a website
:P
i wouldn't know how to make it though! :P
:D am tempted to say i'll make you a whole spc themed cake.. but i wouldn't know where to start..
Simple, you just get a trifle and add some sherry.
aah now that ones easy.
its starts by you shouting the word
"MUM"
very loudly
My nan makes it. She adds lots of sherry :)
sponge baked in a teddy tin and covered with black and White icing?
nooooo it starts by me asking Em over to stay the weekend before i next see mr c... she made me a brawn shaped cake.. we'd plan it, grab the ingredients and a camera and get started :P
:D
Good plan. Mr C makes you a web site, Em makes him a cake and you get a photo story for your site. Everyone wins except Em who gets..... Best get some booze in
:)
:)
:)
nooo i'd make it with Em.. :P
I remember the last time you two made a cake together. THe only thing in your hands was a camera and a wine glass
fact!
heh! that was fun. I did the cooking too.. but it was only pics of Em that i put in the blog post :D
i'm sure you'd enjoy cooking mr c if you did it at 10pm with wine like we did :)
I remember Emily's comments at the time and she said you did nothing but drink wine and take photos
interesting...
ah..touche.
yay!
twice in a week makes me happy :)
i also managed to get 'i couldn't give a flying felipe' into one of my conversations today which made me smile :)
:D
how in the world?
it was something along the lines of 'it's just as well i couldn't give a flying felipe about what she thinks of me then i suppose.'
to put into context i had been told how someone in my class (who i hardly know) doesn't think wanting to become an f1 photographer is a sensible career and how being a girl and liking motorsports is ridiculous.
great response then :)
What i love most is that it was a motorsport related answer to a motorsport related question.
very awesome
no one got it, but i was pleased i managed to get a motorsport reference in :P
:D
i think we need to come up with more motorsport related phrases, i like the fact sometimes i'm the only one that understands them.
somehow a few hours on spc has cheered me up after such a silly day. wohoo for spc :)
w00t, now get yourself some random jenson*
http://sidepodcast.com/randompost/
*possibly
I got a Random Giggles Radio, not gonna complain, but I has to go, night and lotsa love.

*almost as good as Jenson :P
night!
random post is an epic idea :)
now thinking somewhere there should be buttons for:
- i want something random to read
- i want something random to listen to
- i want something random to watch
not sure how/where, but a couple of times tonight i thought - that audio show would be great if i wasn't listening to music already.
yes!! :D
i'm sure there is space on the pretty homepage for a few cute buttons somewhere :)
hold on... there's another superleague race this weekend? is franck driving?
where is it?
shall discuss with the boss tomorrow :)
assen? just looking at the calendar.
Great idea
If there is a race he will be driving. I had no idea there was a race
ah right*
*i have no idea where that is...
i'm confused that there is another race driver in superleague called franck.
with a 'c'!
It's a Dutch track that traditionally is a motor bike only track.
Motor-racing put-downs for nasty girl at school:
Who chose those clothes? Jackie Stewart?
You saying something intelligent is as likely as Max Mosley keeping a reason why he's right to himself.
Your bum is so big it is less aerodynamic than a Dallara chassis.
You're so boring you make Ron Dennis seem interesting.
Lagorce?
there are two of them?
and another next week
I'm sorry, why do we need motorsport put-downs?? What did Nick do now? :P
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franck_Perera
Assen race details
http://www.superleagueformula.com/superleague/SF-Races/Assen
:D
there is. odd schedule.
Never heard of him. Franck Lagorce I have heard of though. He has the most pathetic wikipedia page of any driver ever
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franck_Lagorce
hahah.
I see there superkart races on the Franck schedule. Must try and get a stream for one of those. Superkarts are utterly insane
Think of a kart racing on a car track with a 250cc 2 stroke engine and a 6 speed gearbox. These things are about as fast as F3 cars. Completely mental
that has to be live commented
Not sure if it will even be streamed but if it is we have to try and catch it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superkart
is it the thing massa drives?
I watched Perera in IndyCar. He wasn't too bad, got screwed by money
i keep thinking it's saturday tomorrow.
but seeing as i have one day left of school this week i should get some sleep, night you lovely people xx
Not sure. I think those are normal 100cc non-gearbox karts but with bodywork /aero on them.
Superkarts do 150mph. Imagine 155 mph on a kart with no suspension. The guys who drive those must be loopy and have no teeth
his would probably *just* be a standard gearbox kart with a fairing but the proper superkarts are frightening
They actually scare me to think about. They lap Donington* faster than a 911 Cup car, phenomenal speeds.
*used to lap donington
It's the old old story. Decent drivers not being able to raise a budget while some muppets get loads of money thrown at them because of their connections.
Night.
Night Lou
At some tracks they are faster than F3 cars
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMShUfrriUQ
yikes
Just shows how smooth the surface at Donington was before that plonker dug it up. I wouldn't be surprised if he dug it up to plant toasters.
Better onboard angle of a race at Philip Island

Im trying to do interview prep but I have no idea where to begin! Sleep is hte best option! adios
Night Jon
night
What can I do with myself...? Nothing is really holding my attention :(
Guest post, voicemail, make Lou a website?
ooh yes, guest post please.
I'm not really skilled at any of those items I'm afraid!
You have opinions. You can use skype
You just want to tempt me with shiny shiny usage!! It's fine though, I clock a fair amount of skypetime as it is...
#nothere
Just checked TSL and Superkart website, the top Superkarts lap Thruxton (fastest circuit in Britain) just a few seconds slower than National Class F3 which is astonishing.
What've you tried so far?
And that is probably the worst track for them vs F3.
I tried watching a cookery programme on iplayer. I also tried to get into my book. Then I started listening to a podcast while playing a game but it's really not going on for me today.
needs music and a beer
I'm kinda off the alcohol at the moment really.... I was gonna go to bed but I've stopped feeling tired too.
Conversely I usually stay until half one or so but I'm feeling tired... was going to make 1 or 2 little blog posts but will do it tomorrow.
I might watch Junior Masterchef. If watching kids have their dreams stamped on can't cheer me up, I don't know what will....
