We're halfway through the week now and it's far from the quiet news week I thought it might be. Nevertheless, here are some of the other things we're talking about:
- We're trying to come up with a new name for the Trulliometer, as it looks as though Hamilton is setting up his own. From the depths of despair over the weekend, he's now on the up, suggesting that all the car needs is a few tweaks here and there and everything will be fine again. Hamiltonometer, anyone?
- Amy has been keeping an eye on the cakes we've seen in the pitlane so far, and has come up with a list. I'm intrigued by the F1 cakes, so would love to know if you've ever made, or been given an F1 themed cake. Or if you could make a cake for someone, what would you bake? Mmmm, cake.
- Don't forget the Pitlane Fanatic quiz tonight. It starts at 8:30pm and features some fiendishly hard questions, usually including a spot the difference, which is about the only time I ever get anything right. On the PF topic, Jackie has set up her own blog, brand new, so make sure you add it to your bookmarks.
That'll do for now. Don't forget to check out the final episode of season two of Sidepodpanel, expertly hosted by the aforementioned Amy. It is now available in all it's edited goodness. As usual, I'll see you in the comments.
Oooo
New thread.....
Just in time for me to fall asleep over the laptop....
morning all. This post makes me feel like a sidepodceleb. Its not often i am aforementioned.
I’m intrigued by the F1 cakes, so would love to know if you’ve ever made, or been given an F1 themed cake. {Original entry}
I made a round F1 cake for David Coulthard when he first came into the sport in 1994. None of my relatives thought it was a good idea to send him a slice, possibly because the cake in question was made out of sand...
Anyway, I better go out for my lunch-time walk.
And I'm off to my pre-work-from-home nap. Later, guys. :)
see ya.
I was going to try elaborate on the comments I made because some people got the wrong idea on what I was saying but I seem to have lost the whole thread of posts.
I am sure I am an idiot and just can't work it out.
Confused Honky Tonk!
You can go back and look if you want on the LCLT and just choose the day:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/ria/ajax/
It's easy to get confused with all the other comments going on. I try to just go with the flow.
I see. We changed days.(even if it was 4ish in the morning over there)
Thanks for that
Changing of days does seem a bit random on the doohickey.
More like, when people agree to change threads. :)
woo 13th comment of the 13th day of the 5 th month!! OK i have been working and revising way too hard!!! Please check out my blog :D
http://girlsviewoff1.blogspot.com/
Haha! Nice blog you have going there, Alex. A work in progress - keep it up! :)
Thnka you!! :D
good morning
Morning. How is Sunny Spain today?
beautiful :-) heading to the track in 20 mins
I'm surprised you can type - I would be shaking from excitement!
Here is my re post of my first post with me taking my time to get my point across more clearly.
Budget Caps
I want F1 to be the best of the best. Every driver in the world wants to be in the F1. And this cap looks fine for them. But what about the young guys interested in becoming a Rob or Ross? F1 needs the best people in the world making this sport better. If wages are capped why would they want to be there? Next year I can see either some doggy ‘job descriptions’ or some salaries fixed or lowered. That can’t be good.
I believe the sport can always be better. But a budget cap will not help passing. It will not make the sport more exciting. All it will achieve is that people like Dave Richards can start in the sport. I think there are enough cars on the grid already although more will be good. Ferrari has a big budget because they are good at what they do. If they want to spend it then let them. Money doesn’t make you go fast. Talented designers, engineers etc make you go fast. You could say that the big teams have the money to draw in the best but I disagree. Winning draws in the best. Look at the driver standings. Big budgets are not winning.
The world is full of abundance. There is a lot of money around. People just need to be smart about it.
I would love to be able to be left in the dark about how they are slowing the development of the cars. A cap is in your face. Just do it behind our backs. Stop them testing, stop them using the wind tunnel. Test only on Friday and Saturday. Add a third car to the practice. Give them unlimited budgets.
If they want to help with money then why not patent some of the stuff they have developed into production cars. ABS, traction control, KERS. The next big thing could be built under the FOTA Company and sold to manufactures. If they had come up with KERS then they could be funding there teams already.
I can type but haven't slept much :-)
And I'm sure you're 150% awake. :P Enjoy it, Wolf! You deserve it. :)
good morning, anyone got an exciting plans for today?
Thanks ! Got to go. See ya later
that soounds interesting, to do what?
He's heading to the Ascari Race Resort to have a ride with Michael Schumacher. He won it in a prize. How cool is that? Talk about a 'Dab of Oppo'! :D
erm, nothing much. just a lap or two round the track with Michael Schumacher, is all. :)
Oh yeah, forgot to mention - it's all expenses paid. ;)
wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow!!!
that is totally cool, have an amazing time!!!!!
hahaha! he better write a nice long article about it. :D
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2009/may/13/ferrari-quit-formula-one-budget-cap
Some sound words from Maurice Hamilton
110% agreement from me. But stranger things have happened...
Ferrari threaten a pull out of F1 (bbc.co.uk/sport) which is where I come in and suggest a rethink of the budget:
$40m for car creation pre season(november 2nd 09) and up until the first race of 2010. Then force teams to share their wind tunnels with new entries (awkward I know but it'll only last one year).
That way the new entry can save some money and be on an equal playing field at the start of the season. The later development is more dependant on the engineers rather than how much windtunnel time is spent so it works out a little better.
This is all good and well, but everyone's 2010 development program is already underway. That in itself cannot be remedied anymore.
Felipe baby to be a daddy. Link
Perfectly timed so that she gives birth after the season ends. :) Congratulations, Mr and Mrs Massa! :D
It's GMM, but surely this can't be made up. :P
So does that mean we will be telling "Felipe-baby baby" or "Felipe Junior baby" to stay cool now?
It'll be "Felipinho baby", I think. :D
Morning all.
Good morning, Christine. Catching up with last night's comments? :)
All done.
Morning Christine. It appears that you may have a follow-up single in the works, if Jackie's link is true... ;)
So I see! What I really need is to hear what Rob says about the whole thing.
Great! Mr C was funny last night. Hehe. Wolf should be at the Ascari track by now. :)
Will Lisa talk to Rob this week? :)
He's a funny guy. I kinda like him.
"Kinda like him" would be understating it, wouldn't it? Hehehe. :D
So do we!
Kemblewatch - 13 May
The rest of the Williams test team have turned up - sadly its raining and it looks set in for the day...
Rob
No testing, then, and it's a shame - Williams really need the track time.
Thanks Rob :)
Oh Christine, thank you for the quiz and blog plug. I have however been busted, lol Maverick's seen it .. oops.
He needs a jingle!
What did he say? :)
Rob news? ;)
BTW, might join tonight, if I can wake up for it. ;)
Oops, hehe. Apologies. I also got the time wrong in the original post so have fixed it to be correct.
I'd love to join but I'm off to a football match - it's the big one... the Mighty Odense Boldklub versus the league leaders, FC Copenhagen!
he said "Woah, you took the big leap! Is this what we’re paying you to do now? :-) "
I'd love a jingle....or a jangle...
:D
Sidepodspace
Apparently, a NASA astronaut has tweeted from space - a first. Has this already been mentioned?
:D
How cool is that!?
Star Tweet? :)
The Tweet is here.
Something for Mr. C:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8047321.stm
im eating a caramel magnum, my second magnum of the year. two more than i ate last year. kimi should earn a commission.
Hehehe.
:D Hehehe. I think they should really consider properly endorsing magnums. ;)
i think im going to buy another one day soon because i want to try the white chocolate one
Home already? :) Tis quiet around here. Passing the time by watching JTV. :D
I'm rewatching the 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix (oooh I wonder why) and knitting a scarf.
Wrote a post, if you're bored.
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/13/anything-you-can-do/
:D Nah, I'm happy reading yours. :)
hmm when that popped up on doohickey all i can think is 'the lewis'? what am i on!
What's this doing on the daily. eh? :P
too many windows going at once ;) i edited the comment anyway :D
Anyone want to ask DC a question?
http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Search-Results/Motoring-issues/CAR-readers-to-quiz-F1-star-David-Coulthard/
Good luck!
renault say no too:
"Renault confirm they will follow Ferrari, RedBull, Toyota in not entering F1 2010 if the proposed rules remain unchanged"
But Renault and Toyota WANT a good excuse not to take part next year, so that's not surprising is it?
Indeed, but still, this shows that Ferrari's announcement yesterday was a FOTA-coordinated move - which should dispel other's criticisms of Ferrari just being sore losers in threatening to withdraw.
Fair enough. Unity is Strength after all...
anyone taking bets on bmw announcing tomorrow?
And JA confirms this here.
I sense a coup de etat is brewing at the Place de la Concorde...
i think they will.
i'm also assuming that mclaren won't, but only because they have a suspended sentence hanging over their heads.
for sure, and JA says as much.
James Allen agrees...
cool. i'm glad he's listening :)
The next big question is if Brawn will also say that they won't sign up for F1 2010 under these new rules. They're the only privateer who can realistically make that kind of statement...
If a privateer sides with the manufacturers, that would be significant and would add significant strength to FOTA's position. It would show that it's not only the manufacturers who are after Max's head...
And now the news from Kemble....
Williams about to give up and go home - back here next week.
Rob
This is going to get messy. Like IRL vs CART messy. And the US Open Wheel Scene is still nowhere near to recovering from that :(
Something to note about Renault's announcement - Flavio and Bernie are very good friends. I think Bernie is ready to defect to FOTA if it really boils down to that...
The independents have to follow the manufacturers because they supply them engines - unless they are willing to use a Cosworth engine...
If some teams stay and some leave, yes, it can get that messy. But if everyone decides to boycott (which I think is the case - this is the strategy of everyone in FOTA), Max won't be left with very much at all...
Williams may not be able to - Bernie made a cash advance to them to help ensure their survival. Force India can go either way.
just a quick review of max's cost saving measures...
by limiting the number of straight-line test days. teams now drive halfway across the country with a bunch of transporters. pay employees to sit around all day and night doing nothing, before they pack up and travel halfway across the country back to their base.
repeat until dry.
well done mosely, you're cost saving initiatives are laughable.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75287
I am not here
All FOTA teams are acting together. The reason they are making invidual statements is that it gets them more press coverage so that they can ramp up the pressure and of course the manufacturers each get a day's worth of free advertising which in the current climate is worth a lot.
That has been obvious for some time. Bernie wil dump Max in a second if the teams set up their own championship. As I have said before don't be surprised if it turns out that Bernie is pulling the strings. He wil play FOTA against the FIA and have the winner convinced that he was on their side the whole time.
No team is going to stand out from the others
Is this like yesterday when you said goodnight 3 times? ;)
It's all about the news cycle, isn't it? Still, a privateer (like Brawn) making the same announcement would have a bigger impact (for me) than a manufacturer - after all, the privateers are putting the life of their company on the line.
GP1, then? :D FWIW, Bernie talked to most or all the teams separately throughout the course of the Spanish GP weekend.
Agreed.
Where are you, then? :P
not to fleet street though.
no-one who reads the uk daily's gives a fudge about williams. but they know ferrari, they know bmw and renault and they likely drive a toyota.
the name brawn means nothing to the people these press releases are aimed at. i'm impressed with the way fota are handling themselves.
From a wet and horrible Kemble Airfield.
Williams packing up for the day - hopefully here on Wednesday next week.
"Championship leader Button's team to boycott F1 in 2010"
Wouldn't that be quite a headline?
But yes, LDM and FOTA have learned from FOCA's mistakes in the 1980s. They are playing this to perfection.
Thanks, Rob. But why Wednesday? That's just a day before Monaco FP, isn't it? I thought there were no more test teams in the sport?
Joe Saward is seeing through the smokescreens.
Just a thought - now one realizes why FOTA got so mad at McLaren for liegate. As things stand, they cannot use LewHam's popularity with the F1 casual fan to let Mercedes announce a stunning 2010 withdrawal...
random comment because i'm in italy - we just had the giro d'italia (like tour de france but for italy) go past work. why can't all the good sporting events be this easy to attend?
because for the good sporting events to stay alive, they need to make money.
that rules out Italy for anything then ;)
yep, tis true. :D
hadn't considered that.
Hello all. The less said today the better, heard about Renault's threat
Afternoon everyone. Just got in from my exam and a 2 hour meeting about year 3 of Uni and dissertation expectations.
I am now absolutely terrified. :(
Still not here
sidepodspace update.
NASA TV is covering the docking of the shuttle with Hubble. Docking in capture in the next hour ish.
That is all. You didn't see me
don't be. it seems that way when you're not in Uni yet. But when it's in front of you, it's something everyone manages to handle. And I think you will too.
cross the bridge when you get there. Enjoy uni in the meantime. :)
Heh. Are you some sort of secret agent now?
More like an ultimatum, I think.
Moments like those are never fun, but worthwhile. Otherwise you could have what a friend of mine had - finding out mid way through final year that some subject she thought would be run would not, and thus it cost her a few months of her life. my advice about uni is to talk to as many academics as possible - they give you the inside word on things, and depending on your career, might give you a job one day. my other advice is to enjoy the lifestyle while you can :)
meh, same thing.
how am i supposed to watch the cycling and NASA Tv with just one screen? I tried to jig up two screens but I cannot on this computer :( Maybe at my next job - (Scott in Italy) could be (Scott complaining about US coverage of F1) in a few months..
Evening all! (Or at least a good evening out here...)
It's already 11 pm so I promised myself only 1 hour on here. We'll see how well that goes..
Thats not going to work
now it gets personal:
kimi: "It’s difficult to think of a Formula 1 without Ferrari"
massa: "I’m convinced that even if the Scuderia is forced to leave Formula 1, there will be other competitions, where it will be possible to admire the Reds on the track."
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21470.html
evening. have set the egg timer.
can they buy A1GP? that was my random thought this morning.
You know that egg timers usually only measure three minutes, right?
that's a slow-cooked egg then.
This is why me doesn't have to cook.
That's what I'm afraid of. :(
You're a life saver! Much obliged.
probably for the same amount brawn paid honda. yes.
i didn't. no.
They do?
Oh boy that explains a lot when I cook.
That's okay. I was going to pretend not to hear it anyways. ;)
Hmmm. I might make some phone calls then. The italian media is about the same as everyone else's I guess with talk of Ferrari leaving. I think they should start their own competition and get rid of Bernie and Max, as they making an enjoyable sport less enjoyable.
No chance. You are hooked now.
I am not here
Gee Steven, you're so not here you're even not commenting on non-F1 comments.
Let's all talk about Steven while he's not here.
Where should we start?
I think with his perception of self, and when he feels like he's not really here.
I'm close, but not quite there. BATracer is still my homepage.
rumour has it he once conspired with the owner of a karting track to cheat someone out of an honest podium.
he's a lot like jean todt... only taller.
NASA just announced 2 hours 24 minutes till contact with Hubble. Looks like they are finally behind schedule
But this is in your second tab, right? ;)
Duly followed by a Sidepodspace update. :P
YES!
:D
Oooh...
Anyway, calling it an early night - I want to join this week's quiz. :D Night, everyone!
see ya.
Touche.
ciao J
Nitey nite!
Talking of BATRacer, how many more people do we need now?
:D
Right, gonna (try and) pull myself away from spc to get this operating systems assignment done tonight... so I shall talk to you lovely people later. :)
Anyone else love it when F1 Teams give out press releases with driver quotes on that are blatently not from the driver?
It does make me chuckle :D
good luck - just remember that windows ME was once at the forefront of OS.
Looks like we're only half full. Still waiting for 10 more people.
For about... oooh.. 12 minutes?
It was dreadful.
and Vista is at the back ;) allegidly :P
Didn't it have some sort of flaw that drained all of your memory capacity?
Actually I'm not so sure anymore that they are not - have you heard some of these "spontaneous" speeches when a driver thanks the team - they are so rehearsed now and none of that usual random enthusiastic dribble i used to like.
This is true, in my head i'm always saying the quote in the drivers voice 8-)
I knew comment that would stir people up. I have no idea what was wrong with it, other than it was a messed up piece of trouble. Fortunately I never did, but I think my parents made the mistake of taking the computer shop's advice rather than listen to their son. foolish people....
The biggest fla was that it was Windows 98Se underneath and they then tried to bolt the appearance from Windows2k onto it... and failed miserably.
Only reason I have 4 copies of it was I managed to get it for £20 a copy and each had £40 cashback from Microsoft with it. :D
:)
Anyone seen this (and i'd like to point out it was linked from an F1 website...)
http://www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~1653112,00.html
Didn't see that one coming ;)
I sense a conspiracy theory coming...
'RED BULL IN SHOCK RENAULT TAKEOVER'
i loved this quote
As part of the deal, Red Bull will engage in a number of community based projects within the West London boroughs, as well as utilising the five-star hospitality on offer at Loftus Road, on both matchdays and non-matchdays.
I guess they're saying they can mix with people of all types?
hahaha, that would be possibly the stupidest thing they've ever done
Hmm well Red Bull use Renault engines so there is a link there. I'm sure they'd love to be in the Premier League too ;)
Do I sense a 'Red Bull Queens' like they did with 'Red Bull Salzburg' and 'Red Bull New York' elsewhere in football?
Did I scare everyone off with that football reference?
Yay! Just successfully tested out skype on the iPod! Consider mobile phone bill slashed!
wow
thats cool
it's a battery killer though.
Not really - it's no worse than using the wifi. Turn the screen brightness down a bit - that helps too ;)
Okay ladies and gentlemen. Since there's a lull I think I'm gonna take the chance and escape while I still can. Have a great night!
Online time: 1hr and 30 mins. Only 30 mins over my allotted time ;)
Night John!
see ya sir :)
Felipe baby to be a daddy. {Comment #35}
Congratulations to Felipe and Raffaela!
Williams may not be able to - Bernie made a cash advance to them to help ensure their survival. Force India can go either way. {Comment #97}
If Ian's continual extolling of the budget cap is anything to go by, I suspect they will choose to be with Williams in the FIA championship, even though it is theoretically impossible for any team to actually comply with the budget cap requirements.
Hey guys, just returned from the track. What a day. Still can't believe that it was for real ...
can they buy A1GP? that was my random thought this morning. {Comment #128
I suspect, if the rumours about low funds in the A1GP kitty are half-way true, then Ferrari could quite easily purchase that series.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/schumi-jpg
Disappointed that they didn't headline it Felipe's Baby
Just got here. Have I missed anything today?
I look forward to reading about it.
w00t!
it's a long shot, but is there any chance you gave him a poke in the eye for austria 2002?
Hey guys, just returned from the track. What a day. Still can’t believe that it was for real {Comment #184}
Sounds like you enjoyed yourself :)
hullo. long time no see. it's been a bit quiet all round...
hm... well he was driving the car I was sitting at like a madman :-) I would not want to p*** him off :-)
good point!
I see from the comments you let John in Japan go without signing him up for a podcast appearance. Still his addiction is building nicely. Until yesterday he had no time to comment at all and today he went over his self imposed time limit.
sure I did, got to drive on the track myself and then got that Michael person to driver me in Maserati :-)
:)
he'll be back.
cool! how did your times compare?
his drive was in in Maserati on longer part of track, we could drive BMWs on shorter track, so can't compare :-)
very much looking forward to your post on this one!
what's your plans now?
All of those things were in production cars before F1.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/just-before-take-off-jpg
that was the machine
check my site over the weekend, once I get back to my quick internet connection I will try to upload the onboard footage
He still insists on an unfair advantage? How insecure can he be?
shall do, cheers for keeping us updated :)
:P :P
now they are taking us for dinner and tomorrow I fly back to Hong Kong, need to catch the Friday night drinks time :-)
One of the sexiest cars made today.
Still prefer the old 3200GT though.
I have an image in my head of Kimi pointing his Magnum at Max amd saying "Do you feel loucky punk?"
I stand accused by the very person who stole my kart. A dastardly manouvre that resulted in me winning the race in his and him being given the win. It was like a Brawn strategy.
So Red Bull announce a sponsorship deal with a football team owned by Bernie and Flavio at the same time as Renault and Red Bul threaten to pull out of F1. I am sure that is going to make Max feel suitably alienated.
Right you lot, off to football tonight so no quiz or comments. Have fun :D
Enjoy the game
sidepodspace update
We have live Hubble pictures on NASA. Capyure and docking is about 15 minutes away
A really strange thing just happened to me. A political party (which shall remain nameless) actually phoned up my house to ask for my political opinion. I'd heard rumours of such things but it's never happened to me before.
The trouble was that the person at the other end wasn't really equipped to deal with the answers I gave. I think he must have been filling in a questionnaire with multiple-choice answers and I have this annoying habit of having opinions that don't fit any of them! As a result, the call took about twice as long as it needed to because of things like convincing them that Parties A and B seem identical to me...
None of them have ever phoned me either.
I am sure I would have given them the same problem. I tend to give people problems when they ask for my opinion. I have been black listed by a certain religious organisation because they called one day when I was bored. I kept them talking for two hours during which time all of their colleagues had completed a street each and the minibus that distributes them had come back after 45 minutes and all bar the two at my house had boarded. Once i saw that I had a busload captive I decided to see how long I could keep them
There was one woman in her 40s and a girl in her late teens/early 20s. After telling them why the were wrong in their fundamental beliefs I spent the rest of the tim unconvertng the girl. The older people who indocrinate them are not programmed to deal with people like me. I am sure that I successfully de-programmed her.
Docking now scheduled for 18:05 ish.
See, they needs to get themselves a tick-tock.
:D
They need to get themselves a life
I do believe thats what they are doing :)
I have been black listed by a certain religious organisation because they called one day when I was bored. I kept them talking for two hours {Comment #215}
Brilliant! If an organisation cannot take the hint that they are an unwanted influence, then tying up their phone line while they put pointless spiel into the air seems only fair.
I do believe thats what they are doing {Comment #220}
By preaching to those who don't care what they are saying? Is that a life someone would want?
Ah, but part of what they believe is obviously evangelism, and i should think that there are some people who do care, but whom are apparently in a minority
*claps happily* OS assignment is dooooone! :D
It;s not amazing but it's good enough :) many thanks to mr c, journeyer and others for the little tidbits of advice the other day!
sidepodspace update
Hubble about to be captured
Hubble captured.
:-)
Ah, but part of what they believe is obviously evangelism, and i should think that there are some people who do care, but whom are apparently in a minority {Comment #223}
Preaching to people who do care is fine. It's when they've been talking to someone for, say, ten minutes and they're becoming more resistant to the idea every moment that it would make sense to drop the subject and look for someone who might be more prepared to convert. They might even convert more people that way...
There's evangelism and there's inefficiency.
Ahhh, what an amazing feeling :)
Honestly, one of the best things in life is knowing another assignment is done and dusted
is the lukeh-ometer on a high then?
;)
after a very tough day, finishing this annoyance has send the meter off the scale :D
lucky for some, i was looking forward to being on a high after a piece of coursework that had taken me a year to do but all i could think once it was in was redoing business coursework.
booo
Good for you mate. Nice feeling to finish coursework.
Not to high on my -omometer though
aww :( thats a shame
This is really rather good: http://en.redbulletin.com/articles/head2head/
DC vs. Mark Webber
it was.
they need a wider lens though. i don't need to see that much detail on anyone's nose.
Just look at this: http://blogf1.co.uk/2009/05/11/caption-contest-89/
He definitely lacks motivation :P
FakePiquetJr and Fakemansell are currently having a very funny argument o twitter. Go watch :D
evenin' :)
I see Renault are the latest to whinge about the budget cap. Dear lord...
Oh and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gh9g9NSCWDk
:D !
:D
Also cool to see Brawn GP are getting new merchandise out soon and at the British GP. I want one of the new caps (not the Duracell one though)! :D
sidepodspace update
They caught Hubble with the robotic arm and pulled it to the shuttle an docked it. Nothing to see until the spacewalks start tomorrow. I think the astronauts are going to spend the rest of the day playing I spy.
Andrew shovlin appears to be on my xbox telling me I'm stupid and need to use my brain more. :(
Spectacular. :-)
Eh?
There is now a Fake Bernd Maylander. Not that I bother with the fake ones because I don't want my feed flooded, but they are fun from time to time...
I'm not here either.

Been thinking, the SL is a bit spartan inside, off to Halfords for a Magic Tree, a custom gear knob and maybe some fluffy dice.about 2 hours ago from web
I meant to put that in a quote box but forgot
yeah, saw that earlier :D
Right, lots to do, time to vanish again. No quiz for me. :-( Will aim to make it next week.

Are you using Amy's withdrawal plan too?
Nah, I've embraced my addiction. No point withdrawing now. :P
Mr C? Mrs C? Yoohoo! Where are you? :D
Too hard.
I'm still here :)
sorry, too hard. you guys carry on though.

Am so jealous of the Apprentice winners now racing lotus' about...
And they have The Chain playing! :D
Oh.my.goodness. We don't get Apprentice UK here - will need to look that up...
Imagine wasting a treat like that on those morons
We only saw about 20 seconds of it. Not worth watching
I've seen 3 or 4 versions of The Apprentice and the UK one always stands out, even more so over the American one Alan Sugar based it from. But that may be bias :P
Yeah was only a small clip. Just such a good prize for the most annoying of people...!
Beastly people. And they end up running the country – low cunning always succeeds where talent and intelligent reasoning fails...
That's the world for ya. Fortune favors the opportunists.
Still compelling viewing though. Love it when they get shot down in flames by Nick or Margaret. Can't say I like Sir Alan very much either. I'm, as ever, a fortnight behind. Thank technology for iPlayer.
I'm hunched over a steaming word processor at the moment (not an Amstrad)
Steaming word processor? Isn't that a bit dangerous? :P
Nick and Margaret are the greatest television duo since the chuckle Brothers
how fast are you typing?
I'm attempting to revise for a test tomorrow, with moderate success.
Funnier too :)
I'll leave it with you.
Dammit. I just remembered Freeview works here now and I have a DVR. I ought to have recorded it. Was going to d/l on iplayer some time. Repeat tomorrow? Better to record than download.
For some reason that sentence reminded me of the time when Trevor and Simon decided that they were proper comedians.
1600 words (transcription) since 8.30-ish...
Argh. I'm really not here. See you later...
Wouldn't be hard to be funnier than the chuckle brothers though.
I'm glued to 'Penelope Keith and the fast lady' on iPlayer atm... all about the first female racing driver :-) a 'works' driver too!
True. Wednesday night is a bit of a lock-out in Codling Manor on the TV front because we have Desperate Housewives and The Beast recording concurrently on the Skybox.
Desperate Housewives?
Just. Brilliant! :D
hey. when did bibendum vanish from autosport's background?
I watched that a few weeks ago. It is really interesting
The day they saw sense probably
aww, i liked it. now it looks like something is missing :(
Nothing annoying about that. A pox on multiple choice! How dare they try to squeeze us into neat boxes?
Marvelous programme...
because you get an hour to yourself?
Yes it is. Not as good as the panel though!
Does this mean that I'm not the only person who doesn't really see the point of it?
:D
FakePiquetJr: I'm not too worried about Renault quitting f1, it will give me time to pursue my other dream, I want to be Zorro
:D
i enjoyed series 1. then it kinda went off the rails.
production values are excellent. plot and acting are somewhat suspect.
Right, returned from the football - we won 3-2 and it was a record sellout crowd at the Colosseum known as Fionia Park that saw the mighty Odense Boldklub smash the poncy Copenhagen team. As I work in Copenhagen, I think I'm going to have a good day tomorrow ;)
I'm now seeing that a visit to brooklands may be necessary... asap I think :-D
:D
Very funny, though.
FakePiquetJr "In fact I may even wear a mask and cape at Monaco, if @fakedc can dress as Superman I can be Zorro,"
They marketed it as if there was only going to be one series and that there was going to be a tidy finish to the story. I think half way through they decided to cash in.
Oh... snap....
:-S
Brooklands is worth a visit
FakePiquetJr (he's on fire tonight) The sword will come in too, as I'm being lapped I could slash @fakejenson s tyres
Hey there. :D
He's gone bonkers. :P
:-)
Just the bleurgh that is the M25 to deal with from here...
As I said, bonkers. :P
i could see that, yup. lasted 4 shows into s2 i think.
Just not quite sure about the claim to be the 'birthplace of british motorsport' There are quite a few places with a claim to that....
I saw some of the first series and didn't start the second series. The longer it has gone on the less believable the plastic surgery has become.
Quiz scores
Journeyer wins again
Yay! :D
Sopranos was the same. The first two series were excellent and then it tailed off very quickly to the point where I was only watching to see it though until the end...
...Luckily for me I stopped a season and a half before it did, or I would have opened a can of RG on someone! :)
Have you thought about staying in bed in future :D
Jeez, first Ricky Hatton, now the PF Quiz!
Oooh I sense a rivalry brewing here!
It's always been there - Steven Roy is the master of F1 history. :D
We Filipinos are taking over the world, haven't ya heard? :D
Especially if you watch it in HD. No wonder Nicolette Sheridan left!
US TV shows are always annoying in that the nature of the commissioning process means that they almost inevitably either stop before they've properly finished, or go on long past their sell-by date.
I won't believe that until you have a Grand Prix!
With the government here, it won't happen in a hundred years... :(
Mrs C is a bit like that with Lost...
Don't say that, Bernie's always listening
Oh dear. Well she's going to get seriously burned with that show I reckon. It'll make the St. Elsewhere ending look tame!
Only if I beat him occasionally
I actually wish it would happen. But the people are too poor and the people in government are too selfish - no way they'd fork over their hard-stolen money to Bernie...
You did beat me on my first go. :)
Every pic I see of Marcia Cross the more plastic her face gets. Can she move any part of her face?
Sounds like a perfect mix for a new Grand Prix, going by the recent new additions!
hey all.
Since when did Sidepodcast turn into Perez Hilton?
Hi Lou. How are you?
Hey Lou.
All right, back to bed for me, then. Later, guys and gals. :)
howdy, how are ya?
night!!
:D
crazy fool.
No, China, India, and Korea are all rich countries in spite of the corruption. Here, they're corrupt AND we're poor.
:P
Journeyer and Lou are on shifts. I'd better hit the hay too. Night all :)
Good night Journeyer
night gavin.
night!!
Night Gavin
It's becoming like the Waltons
Quick question - does anyone else think the guy on the front of the swine flu leaflet looks exactly like Dr. Cox from Scrubs? :D
She is well Carey, man.
heya. I'm alright. Starting to panic and get a little worried about friday and my ict and psychology papers tbh. I just don't know how much more information i can remember. plus i have a really bad cough. but other than that i'm fine! :D
Going to add a goodnight of my own now. Goodnight!
kinda-ish
Good night Stuart
Goodnight!
night to everyone who has left since i arrived! :)
saying that, whoever that guy is, he's going to be avoided like the plague
I am sure your exams will work out OK. These things have a way of seeming much harder than they are.
:D
see ya.
plus you get to resit them next year if you need to
should we assign roles?
hmm.. i just don't feel prepared or anything, and i dunno i just really really want to do well in psychology, plus it's a whole day of essay writing. my hand isn't that strong.
Something rather nice about this programme (for me anyway) is the amount of places she's visiting that are near here. Currently at the rollsroyce club in Towcester...
Think I will have to subject the children to this programme and then take them on a short trip up the road lolol
i really don't want to do resits though.
oh of course, and you'll try as hard as possible, but sometimes it just dosent go well on the day. its there when you need it :)
yeah that is a good point :)
just try your best :D
love this tweet!
http://twitter.com/jimthomlinson/status/1788381527
awww!
WOWWWW!!!!
The last time we assigned roles we ended up with RSPCRF1
Awww indeed! :D
Famous. Who'd have thunk it?
Love this tweet from Fake Piquet Jr about his dream of being Zorro:
"The sword will come in too, as I'm being lapped I could slash @fakejenson s tyres"
Ack - resits are fine. Or indeed just totally changing your mind and doing a completely different lot. Far more interesting that way :-)
(having done music, physics and maths A levels (and certs in music tech and stage lighting) the first time round, I then resat maths (for a better grade), took AS physics instead of subjecting myself to the whole thing again (AS not existing the first time that I did physics) and did Govt./Politics, a C&G radio and print journalism, a clutch of DPT and Shorthand things and far too much student political stuff the second college around....)
I advocate resits and a second lot of stuff for everyone, you end up far more interesting and well rounded that way :-P
I do too much
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Sidepodcast+Community+on+Twitter
If your missing, add your name on
It's been a great night for FakeDriverTweets :D
Oops, wrong place. Doesn't make much difference though
haha! :) it did take me by surprise a bit.
we very, very much appreciate it though rg.
*hugs*
Forgot to say - not least of all because the 2nd time round you are far more relaxed and it doesn't phase you... so you generally get a better mark anyway :-)
thanks ;)
Um, don't tell Bassano though, kay?
eh?
There's a grammar issue.
ooh bugger. now your four it.
;)
1600 words (transcription) since 8.30-ish… {Comment #296}
Bravo, Stuart! That is a really good endurance word rate (18 wpm, presumably including thinking time).
:D
:D
Well, I'm all wiki'ied out for the night. See ya tomorrow. No tests at least
niiiiight!
Nothing annoying about that. A pox on multiple choice! How dare they try to squeeze us into neat boxes? {Comment #306}
It's annoying to the pen-pushers and they have an equally strong habit of making my life difficult because I don't fit in a neat box. On that score, simply forcing me to explain the lack of difference I detect between Parties A and B (and me considering Party C is basically superior) is the tip of the iceberg.
night RG
night good chap.
Evening all.
it's just a merry-go-round of people today.
how's you andy?
we're on shifts...apparently
Evening Andy, you alright?
Tired. Been decorating most of the day. Just finished putting up the lining paper on the bits of the landing that still needed it. Now I have to finish painting. That will have to wait until the weekend.
i'm confused who's a coming and who's a going.
gotta love the sidepodcast community :)
:D
*pops up out of nowhere*
Hellooooo. Morning shift?
what have we told you (actually might've been flibster) about live commenting the d.i.y?
i need a list...
hi!
aaah, you scared the life outa me ;)
It's a bit like "grand designs"
:D :D
I'll get him to live comment the teen's behaviour instead if you prefer...
(seriously, the DIY is a *lot* less stressful....)
I scared myself :(
isn't that what you have the bottom of the doohickey for?
people don't disappear though, when they sleep (or pretend to).
ooh... good point... yeah you're going to need a list :P
thought as much
:D
ohh mr c and his lists...
I didn't live comment it. Not had the computer on all day.
I've just joined Twitter with the user name lacanta. Now what do I do?
Early versions of Google's Chrome browser are now available for Mac
http://news.cnet.com/8301-17939_109-10237981-2.html
Oh, and er, hello all :)
Yes. Apart from the budget and lack of Kevin McCloud doing a piece to camera about how he thinks I have no chance of completing the project on time/under budget/at all.
yippppppeee!
type you're inner most thoughts in less than 140 characters.
Try Tweetdeck and wait for the invites to come in
You wonder why people bother with these short useless messages to each other.
come on, you have the obligatory partner-with-child. you're halfway there.
:D
evening Bassano. Mr C remember to keep updating your list lol
Do you have an order for "Bath stone" which just won't turn up?
it's quite addictive.
:)
hahahah. love it!
hehe. What we are waiting for is a tidy bedroom that won't turn up.
Is there an ever changing list of currently-active commenters?
something like that. Mr C is having trouble keeping track of people that are awake and people that have gone to sleep lol. it's all go here this evening :)
only in my head. there may have to be soon though. am rather lost who's awake, who's asleep and who's pretending to.
As always, it's just that Mr C wants to keep track for some unknown reason.
Does that include regenerative cycles?
Well, he is the numbers guy ;)
:D
:D
:-)
Try this.
Hands up everyone who is awake
just remembered a comment i read recently, someone said spc was like the hotel california. this may or may not be true, but to assign proper credit, steven said it first back in '08:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/11/02/live-speechless-gonna-be-a-short-show/#comment-142747
as you were.
Oh yes, so he is.
gah!
don't forget light bulbs he's meant to be the light bulb guy too....even if he does brake them and blind the f1 guru ;)
I noticed the title and had to check. The short show lasted 111 minutes
gah!
actually, i'd forgotten.
i remember the 15minute podcasts...
It could be worse... you could be the letters and colours and graphics guy as well.
... oh, hang on....
Least you know that Christine is the front of camera 'guy'... :-D
ooh, replacement bulb's are £3.65, that's a relief.
fair point. i kinda wanna be the cable(s) guy.
ah that's good :)
after watching the film of the same name...i wouldnt really want to be that guy...
I looked at the prices of the lights - that was scary.
:-D
And then there is the 'spending your life on camera' factor...
Is that the "big brother" guy?
yeah. studio stuff can be.
could be worse though, we could own x2 mixing desks when we only need one...
:( Ebay?
By the way, have you seen this? Apparently Man Flu is real:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8047321.stm
I was thinking 'truman' but I supose that would be the other possibility. 'Cept that 'me' is definately not a jordy...
I read that today, men everywhere are saying "Ah ha!"
hehe. i think we may be able to offload it. kinda funny though.
Ah, much better
Not fun in an office of middle aged wimmin where they are gossiping about it just within earshot...
and the caption "The weaker sex?" probably dosent help...
I've just been reminded (elsewhere) that I know someone who went on Grand designs precisely *because* of Kevin's reputation as a fertility enhancer...
Excellent, the more the merrier. Add yourself to the wiki list. Twitter will seem pointless for a while. Then a race will happen.
...and it will seem even more pointless.
I think I'm going to bed. That means I will really be asleep soon and definitely not pretending.
Test revision complete. Now to finish the last couple of pages of the project...
hmm
night
night andy.
Good night Andy
[Mr C looks for his e-pencil to cross off list]
:D
hahaha. the problem with this plan, is eventually i'm gonna have to sleep.
You need to make Amy or Journeyer the night shift supervisor
seconded.
Tweetdeck is the greatest invention since Doohickey.
Tweetdeck and Desktop Doohickey and my life is complete
I would agree if mine didn't crash every 50 minutes :(
Lol...
Andy is still up...
last night I noticed (from comments here) that he said he was going to sleep and then didn't appear until a lot later (I didn't notice him appearing, cos I'd long gone to sleep by then).
I thought you had invented daytime napping to sort this issue?
but then what happens in the day time?
Add yourself to the wiki list. {Comment #482}
Unfortunately the wiki refuses to load on my computer right now.
What version? Have you seen this? http://tweetdeck.posterous.com/minor-update-to-tweetdeck-v025
Then a race will happen. {Comment #482}
Or better still, free practise. I'm stuck at the JobCentre for the start of the first practise session, so Twitter is the only way I'll be able to comment on anything (and the amount I can comment on it when I won't be able to anything actually happening on track will be pretty limited!)
Hah,,, he has gone now. Calling him on it seems to have been sufficient
I'm disaperating now too...
that is a vicious and unsubstantiated rumour.
night lpg.
Tweetdeck is the greatest invention since Doohickey. {Comment #493}
I find Doohickey difficult to use and can't even find the download button for Tweetdeck on its own site.
RG may do it when he sees this. :-)
I'm too busy/lazy right now.
even the new improved version?
Dosent the "download now, its free" button appear?
There a "Download Now, It's Free" button on the left, underneath the logo. It needs Adobe Air but I think it'll try and get it if you haven't got it already.
Thanks, hope it works
even the new improved version? {Comment #506}
No. It has the same problems for me as the old version. But I'm strange like that and LCLT suits me perfectly for times when ye olde commenting doesn't cut it, so no need for you to change anything ;)
Dosent the “download now, its free” button appear? {Comment #507}
No. Neither does any button or link suggesting anything remotely similar.
am interested though. we might be able to do something. does the quick comment button at the top, not help at all?
my main concern is lclt will soon resemble some bits of doohickey, as may the main site, and we don't want to alienate anyone.
http://www.tweetdeck.com/beta/ ??
try this:
http://tweetdeck.com/beta/TweetDeck_0_25_manual.air
You are not using AdBlock or No Script or similar on Firefox are you?
I've finally managed to download Tweetdeck via the "Version 0.25" link (thank you Lukeh for the blog entry link that eventually led me to figuring this out). Now I just need to find Adobe Air...
You are not using AdBlock or No Script or similar on Firefox are you?
I am. But there was only one item being blocked and it appeared ad-sized - was that the button?
Try installing Tweetdeck, I'm sure it pointed me to Air when I tried to install.
If it was to the left of the big image showing the program, and directly under the big word Tweetdeck, then yes...
Yep - that's it. I run them on Firefox, and saw exactly what you did. On IE, it comes up fine. You sometimes need to be careful with what is blocked.
Try installing Tweetdeck, I’m sure it pointed me to Air when I tried to install. {Comment #518}
Windows can't make enough sense of the file to know what to do with it - the OS just seems to assume it's a worthless pile of ones and zeros :(
Therefore I am searching manually.
Ah in that case I was wrong, sorry. No idea where I found it, in that case..
If it was to the left of the big image showing the program, and directly under the big word Tweetdeck, then yes… {Comment #519}
It was to the left of the big image, but it was above the big word Tweetdeck. Do I have a confused browser?
I wouldn't recomend installing more Adobe junk, but Air is easy to find on the Adobe web site, and straight forward to install.
Just what we need - another development platform
No idea then!
Ah in that case I was wrong, sorry. No idea where I found it, in that case.. {Comment #523}
Given my computer, it wouldn't surprise me if it was my stupid copy of Windows that is to blame rather than your memory.
I've found Adobe Air on the Adobe site, which was thankfully quite simple to find.
true, but at least this one's cross platform.
No, you don't. The download normally appears on the left, under the two paragraphs of text. You could maybe disable AdBlock for that site if yo wanted to see it.
i was the one who said it lately. but steven beat me to it, it looks like.
morning, everyone. :D
ahh cool. i read it, then forgot until the song came on last.fm.
howdy.
FOTA should be able to read bernie like a cheap novel and when he comes running to them saying that he was on their side the whole time, I hope they kick him to the roadside. As for flavio maybe Renault will dump him if FOTA decides to go and form their own championship.
it's not that easy to dump bernie. he has the commercial rights - which means TV, circuits, and trackside ads. unless they buy cvc out, they need to hang on to him - for the moment anyway.
Wouldn't the commercial rights just apply to F1? If FOTA decide to form their own series you would think they could line up a broadcaster, get trackside ads and as for circuits there are enough tracks around the world that bernie hasn't gotten his grubby little mitts on that FOTA could have their pick.
the circuits and TV stations are locked-in to F1; they can't work with a GP1 unless Bernie tells them to...
and it seems that based on the talks from last weekend, bernie has been briefed by FOTA on their plan of action.
Why is it that FOTA trust Bernie so explicitly? He seems to be almost as much trouble as Max is.
It's not that they can't trust him; I think they're turning the tables on them by doing a divide and conquer. They can't afford to go against both of them at the same time - but if they take them on one at a time, they may just be able to pull it off.
Huh. That makes sense, and it puts the situation in a much different light for me.
Alianora - response to old postings, but what you describe is exactly the issues I've had trying to run the doohickey on IE.
Whatever me did to it last, plus the most recent version of firefox and it now runs fine in Firefox on this laptop (running XP) or on my virtual machine (runs Win 98). HTH
