Friday at last, and I now have another joinee to my 'Thursdays are bad' club. Thankfully, we are heading straight towards the weekend now, and not before time. Here are some of the things being talked about at the moment:
- Having finally realised that joining Sidepodcast is not as easy as you might think, I've written a Quick Start Guide to answer some of the immediate questions. Have a read, whether you are new or not, and let me know what you think, and if there is anything I have missed.
- Simon Gillett has confirmed that Donington Park has been handed a 17 year deal to host the British Grand Prix, and we are trying to figure this out. Whilst it makes sense that he needs it to make the debenture scheme work, surely signing up to something for 17 years is never a good idea even in a normal financial/political climate?
- In the 'dragging old names from the past' saga, it looks as though Team Lotus aren't to be bothered with legal action, whilst Brabham are going ahead with proceedings against Formtech who are trying to enter 2010 with the good family name. Because what Formula 1 needs now is more lawsuits.

In all honesty, I don't think Litespeed will get in, but I guess most are saying Lola as team 3, and I wanna be different, so yeah, sure. Besides, many bigger teams have plain and simple sucked in F1 anyway.

All current, even Toyota ,they might go after 2012 or so. They'd all be silly to not sign and risk not being there next year, they'll be sorry if they can't get a spot due to their own stubbornness. Especially Ferrari, what the hell are they are. Of course they have plenty other series to go to, but F1 is what they should stay in.

What am I doing this weekend?
Shopping for Silverstone bits, going swimming training (and working extra hard because I'll miss the two sessions after that) and visiting Grandma.

I am worried about the whole F1 entry thing. Does anyone think the FIA might take the chance to "get back" at McLaren and deny an entry? Or are they seen as the second most important team?
I think Max won't want to look bitter, after McLaren have gone through such a massive culture change, and secondly he wants the merc engines...

I don't think that will happen. Max will either announce a load of new teams with WIlliams, FIF1 and possibly Ferrari or he will announce all the curent teams with some conditions attached.
And I'm going to stick my neck out by saying he'll announce the latter,
The more I think about it the more likely I think that is. He will probably set a date for them to commit by.
Alex was saying end of this month. But the mere fact he'd announce them (even with conditions) means he's already lost. Those who didn't make it will probably not be able to commit to F1 if they have to wait any longer.
Another reason why I think the latter will happen is that while nothing was agreed today, negotiations didn't collapse either. So they're not done talking yet...
Hope you are right. Also, the bluff about all those other entries is bound to fall over at some point. No way we would see 8 new teams in 2010.

good point, Paul. it really depends on whether or not FOTA will be in the list, and even then, if they will only be there provisionally or permanently. but even a provisional entry would already be a win for FOTA, as the new teams that won't make it will not have enough time to prepare for next year if they have to wait any longer.

well every season we have several provisional calendars for the next season, so why can't we have provisional entry list with provisonaly accepted teams that entered provisionaly due to provisional rules being in place while securing provisional peace between FOTA, FIA and all the other provisionally accepted entries ?

i think that's the issue - they need to make it as interesting as possible. expect 45 seconds of turkish scenery (not the 16 fans that went) like they did with the french grand prix last year) and then i guess they'll show every camera angle of the first lap with vettel going wide - and rubens having issues but really...what else would they pop in.

I (once upon a time; long, long ago) worked on one of the first IBM PCs to come into the UK, and I understood it all, I could even hard wire things to it with a soldering iron to make it work VCRs and the like. I understood the OS and software; I could write programs to it; but now I'm at a loss most of the time.

One very strange experiance I had was when on a visit to Hursley, I walked down a corridor, which I thought must be a home for the terminally "over-stressed" as all these guys were just sitting there talking to their PCs. I then found out they were developing the speech recognition software, but at the time it was very spooky.

Oh god. This happened to me before. I got some bug in my browser and had to reinstall it but you can't use it to go online to get a functional version. It's a pain in the arse....
And by that I don't mean pre-installed, obviously that voids the whole IE/EU Law thing, but just have the various choices there for you to choose from. CD's just seem unecessary to me

What difference does that really make though to the original complaint? Surely it's just a technicality as to whether it's actually on your machine or if you need to install it yourself from their pre-existing links
When installing Windows 7 RC at the end of the setup it asks you to choose your wifi network and enter password, then they could intergrate a option of which browser the customer would like as well as Anti-virus, then with the option chosen install them from the internet!
Wouldn't you need to install it to go find an alternative....

In testing for monza on a low fuel run with new soft tires on I have recorded a lap time of 1:24:538 new record for me - Game = F1 06 PS2 (Time Trial or Testing as I call it)
That was on the first flier on the tires, koool

For Renault as it so hapens, I've used the same on the McLaren and it just needs a few tweeks.
These setups are for the PS3 game and I don't think they will be use able in the PS2. The PS3 game came out in 2007

This time, I don't think it'll be anything personal against McLaren - apart from anything else, there seems to have been a genuine attempt to make a new start since Ron Dennis stepped sideways. Instead, I can see them being thrown out along with all the other conditional FOTA members for not agreeing to enforced arbitrariness.

Cool! That would give the manufacturers a dignified way out if needed (and Toyota for one needs it - I somehow doubt management will let it remain in F1 in 2010 even if the racing side gets its way concerning the regulations).

yeah any site can do this. what operating system too. and usually we're your from. don'T get too scared. most sites just use browser info to make sure their site looking okay in those browsers
and what ads to show, and whether you've been before and.....
yup. your browser passes a version string to the site every time you view a page or download something like an image. it's not unique though, so it's hard to, say, track an individual.
google gives us a report of stuff like how many people view the site, what podcasts they download and which browser they use.
is this google analytics? i've seen that on drop.io - if you pay for one of the non free plans.

Same shuttle. They have simply filled the cargo bay since than and for some reason moved it to the other pad. Why they would do that when it is on a perfectly serviceable pad is beyond me but I guess when the government writes your cheques you don't need to worry about blowing a few bucks.

Look North was full of motorsport today - they covered Manor Motorsport in detail (their main base is in Dinnington, which is a mile and three train stations north of where I live) and then had a James Thompson interview (which could be summarised as "BTCC is way better for racing than F1") and a piece on Sarah Moore, who is apparently doing very well in Ginetta cars. Her older brother Nigel is in Le Mans this weekend and younger brother David is five places behind her in the Ginetta championship...
And her boyfriend is in Ginetta's too. The coverage on ITV4 is always very funny

Well I'm gonna be with Renault for the weekend, I'll meet the drivers, team and get a tour of the garage. It's also very likely I'll meet Anthony Davidson and DC too! For Sunday, I'm gonna get a video camera and I'll be going round talking to fans on race day for a piece for the site. They're also gonna try and set me up with a profile on the site too! And of course watch the weekend's racing. I. Am. So. Stoked! :D

They're a team from Dinnington, Sheffield (though it's really halfway between Rotherham and Worksop) who race in the F3 Euroseries and are currently 4th (they also have a branch in Formula Renault based in North Ollerton, Nottinghamshire). One of their drivers, Spaniard Roberto Mehri, is currently second in the series and may be F1 material. Sadly, his team-mates haven't scored yet, but the 2009 F3 Euroseries is only two rounds old so far.
The factory is rather small and box-like, but with design being off-loaded to Wirth Research and specialist component manufacture being outsourced Jordan-style, it's probably big enough to be going on with.
It's exciting enough that I could reasonably aspire to commute there to work, if I ever acquired a skill set that Manor was interested in.

This affects the touring side of the FIA as well as the sporting side. Some of those manufacturers are involved in other types of racing like Le Mans so they are no longer just threatening F1. They threatening the whole FIA.

I don't think anybody will actually kill him, though at the rate that Max's mistakes are increasing in severity and frequency, I can see someone attempting to oust him for malgovernance but being thwarted because the election process will have begun by the time the individual has got round to suggesting it.
Max will almost certainly lose the election - and laugh from behind a book on an attractive beach somewhere as his successor grapples with the mess he's made.
Kinda like an Obama struggling with the mess Dick Cheney made. For it was indeed Cheney who was doing most of the thinking for Bush 43.
