Juan-Martin Del Potro in action at Queens

Despite the rain we had another fabulous day of tennis yesterday! A match of epic proportions as Soderling defeated Lleyton Hewitt in 5 sets, a 3 set match with an emotional Sabine Lisicki knocking out the number 3 seed Na Li and of course the straight set victory of Roger Federer. Djokovic, Tsonga, Del Potro, Robson, and Serena Williams were amongst other high players to snatch a victory despite the rain.

Jamie Murray also won his double’s match yesterday with Sergiy Stakhovsky (despite hitting him on the ear with his serve) to play on court 16 for his second round match. Good luck to him!

In other Murray news, Andy is set to play today on Centre court, but who else is set to play?

Centre Court – 13:00

  • Feliciano Lopez vs Andy Roddick
  • Daniela Hantuchova vs Victoria Azarenka
  • Andy Murray vs Ivan Ljubicic

Court 1 – 13:00

  • Laura Robson vs Maria Sharapova
  • Maria Joze Martinez Sanchez vs Venus Williams
  • Rafael Nadal vs Gilles Muller

Court 2 – 12:00

  • Caroline Wozniacki vs Virginie Razzano
  • David Ferrer vs Ryan Harrison (to complete their match)
  • Tsvetanna Pironkova vs Vera Zvonareva
  • Juan-Martin Del Potro vs Gilles Simon

You can check out the full schedule of play here, including many of the matches that were cancelled yesterday due to the rain.

You’ll all be pleased to know that at the time of writing the only rain due to fall over SW19 today is in the late evening, lets hope it stays that way so we can have a clear day for more wonderful matches! I’ll be keeping my eye on Caroline Wozniacki’s match first. As the ladies No. 1 seed if surprised me to learn that she’s yet to win a grand slam! I’d love to see her win one soon though, so fingers crossed for Wimbledon!

Throughout the day you can keep track of all the latest news from Wimbly over on their official twitter feed, here. I’ve also been spending some time over the last few days compiling a tennis twitter list. If I’ve missed anyone please feel free to point them out, but hopefully this will help to provide another level to the coverage of this and future tournaments for you all!

Fingers crossed for another magnificent day of tennis!

for those playing at home, after queueing super early my friend was #273 in the queue, so there were #272 people sillier than her :)

She struggled to choose between Centre and Ct 1 because although the Ct 1 line up is far superior today, theres always that pesky threat of rain and ending up seeing nothing. In the end line up won over guaranteed play :)

  • lou24/06/2011 at 12:06

Amy, i forgot to ask you.. it's okay to support Caroline Wozniacki? i don't want to make the same mistake i did with Ana :)

i'm sure the idea of Rafa on Court 1 helped her decision :)

Robson is doing well against Masha but it's early days yet.

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 12:46

    Masha breaks back.

I have practice on my laptop and tennis on my tv but I've realised I'm paying zero attention to the f1 at all

ah same with me, only with the tennis. I have the live scores, too much lovely data tho. Although i'm trying desperately to keep track of jamie's match

It does seem silly of Wimbledon to schedule Robson and Baltacha at the same time. How often do we get British women this far into the tournament, and now we have to choose!

I am shocked Robson/Sharapova isn't on CC. A Brit v an ex champ. Madness.

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 13:10

    tie break :D

  • Christine24/06/2011 at 13:10

A tiebreak. Robson's holding her own. I expected to come back and find I'd missed the whole match.

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 13:18

we just went to a doubles match because Lleyton is playing. He just hit the ball INTO his partner. That ain't how you do it.

apparently Jamie did that yesterday.. bad times.

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 13:20

yay weee duh-veeeed won! I love him and his weeness.

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 13:21

and Roddick lost the first set to Feli. Oh Andy, just once I'd like you to win Wimbledon even though I know you won't

  • Christine24/06/2011 at 13:29

    Uh oh. A break already.

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 13:30

I do not see Laura coming back

  • Christine24/06/2011 at 13:33

You didn't say it loud enough!

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 13:50

You didn't say it loud enough!

I had just started thinking about how Sharapova won Wimbledon when she was younger than Laura is now. She must have heard my thoughts. Get out of my head Laura!

  • Christine24/06/2011 at 13:51

At this point, I don't need to watch. I can tell who won the point from the cheers.

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 13:56

Laura either heard me say she wasn't going to come back, or that this was going to end quickly. Bah.

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 13:58

    or not. woot!

  • Christine24/06/2011 at 13:59

It seems like no one is scared of the big names anymore. Expecting all these early rounds to be a walkover but even the young/unknown people are putting up good fights.

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 14:00

I think I like Wimbledon because green and purple is my favourite colour combination.

    Good a reason as any!

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 14:01

    Good a reason as any!

every time I see it I think 'good choice' and then I feel sorry for the ladies that they have stupid pink towels.

  • Christine24/06/2011 at 14:02

Roddick is two sets down now? Bad times.

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 14:03

Andy, don't you know Feli isn't actually that good and people just like him because he should be a model?

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 14:04

grr the matches I can choose between on telly are Tomic or Zvonareva. One I actively don't like and one I don't care about at all. I'd rather watch Roddick.

  • Christine24/06/2011 at 14:17

We have Roddick or Venus Williams. I don't think I can bear to look at that outfit anymore.

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 14:22

Tomic and Andreev are going to a 5th. Chop chop boys.

I've only heard it three times so they must have been super-hard hits or something, I even consulted the wimbledon map to find out how close court 12 is to court 2 in case i'm imagining things. Nope, right next door :D

  • Amy24/06/2011 at 16:02

ooh there she goes again, it's happening when shes on serve.

It started raining anyway, so it didn't matter. But it seems to me that if you have to go off court to be mended, you shouldn't come back.
