Since the 1970's Worthy Farm in Somerset has played host to some of the biggest names in contemporary music. This weekend it will do it all over again as Glastonbury Festival kicks off the UK festival season in style. Beyonce, Coldplay and U2 are this year's headliners, all set to play in front of a sellout 137,000 fans.

Fans gather at Worthy Farm ahead of the weekend
Which tent is ours?
Of course, Formula 1 fans will recognise Somerset as the birthplace of 2009 World Champion Jenson Button. So excited was he by the prospect of this year's event, Jenson and his team mate set about ensuring they picked the perfect spot for 2011.

An unfortunate scheduling clash with this weekend's European Grand Prix may put paid to the McLaren drivers' best laid plans.
Glastonbury is not just about the headline acts of course, during the next three days hundreds of artists will perform on various stages around the site. To understand the sheer scale of this event, take a look at the full lineup.
Never break the chain
In the spirit of drawing ever more tenuous Formula 1 connections out of thin air, remember last year when Florence And The Machine pulled out a blinding one-off cover of F1's unofficial theme tune, The Chain by Fleetwood Mac. Let's enjoy that moment one more time.

We'll keep this post updated with pictures and video throughout the weekend, do join us in the comments if you're watching any of the coverage.
yaaaay for Glasto! and yay for that mclaren video :) so awesome :)
Note to self: watch Gaslight Anthem tomorrow...
... hopefully there will be other quality tunes too, I heard the Wombles are playing ???
indeedy: http://mrschristine.com/2011/06/17/the-wombles-at-glastonbury/
highlight of the weekend :)
Eddie J Womble on drums yeh ??
if it meant he couldn't be in valencia, i'd take that.
I'm looking forward to this. I'm not quite as sold on some of the bookings this year but as ever I will watch and listen and hope to be convinced. :)
U2 and Elbow are on the 'to watch' list for me, the rest probably at the whim of the BBC really.
Telly coverage is on BBC3 from 7pm, alternative options on BBC4 from 8pm. Red Button should have some too on satellite/cable... Freeview will probably stick with Wimbledon until it ends before switching.
Really looking forward to watching U2 later :) even more so for Coldplay tomorrow night.
Beyonce... nooottt so much.
noooo! she's amazini.
*hugs* on bbc3 now :)
She has sunday night to impress :)
bbc broke already.
she's married to jay z isn't she? = automatic coolness.
She must be so sick of him asking for an encore.
Oh wow, Chris Packham is awesome. Sneaking Manics titles into Springwatch. :)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-13903721
My hero!!!
(that's foo fighters)
:)
what?!
i know a daily post like that :)
:)
Thought I'd put it in the music thread.
2 Door Cinema Club are quite pleasant
just saying i quite like 'em but that has to be H from Steps on drums?
yaaay that you like two door cinema club! everyone should listen to their album :)
mr c and pat, did you see the slightly controversial nme glastonbury vote thingy I posted the other night?
nope?
Fleet foxes are also great, if they're on coverage at all tonight
Yes but as it was the NME I instantly disregarded it. :) Blur should've won it though.
heheh
Twas this. Even I disagree even if it was their bestest gig ever. (2004, not last year)
Yeah its very hard to take anything NME take seriously now. Just found it intruiging though for obvious reasons :)
i'd have voted for robbie.
am watching both coverages now.. tennis and glasto.. i (heart) greg james and his love for mumford and sons :)
foxes thing that lou mentioned is on now. spooky.
...and a man is playing a flute.
Fleet foxes are great! i hope their set is good.
oooh, i know this one.
I don't know who I'm watching. I think it may be the vaccines. They're not very good...
what channel are you on?
red button at the moment, it wa sjust showing little dragon but now it's gone to a male band.
ahh yes it is the vaccines, just seen the GIANT SIGN behind them
BBC Three
ooooooooooh....
i likes the fleet foxes, but worry they're about to break into i've got a brand new combine harvester at any moment.
fleet foxes are most relaxing, although they're rocking the Emmerdale look
hehehe!
I really should have gone to glasto this year.. if i liked camping etc.. soooo many of my fav bands are there this year.
mr t!!!
ohh I thought mr T was at glasto. Aww.
Is Fearne wearing her pyjamas?
Biffy clyro. Back to the tennis.
BB King on BBC4 or some mad woman on freeview red..
Freeview 301 has the Introducing stage, pretty good. I want lots of music not interviews :)
They've appeared on red button now, not sure but might be longer set than on 3 earlier
i'm hoping i'm going to be able to catch some of these later once the tennis is finished. too much going on!
They said there's lots of on-demand on the website
bbc or glasto?
BBC I think
Perfect, thank you :)
how come hillbilly is cool now? and where are all the young musicians?
who are you watching?
mumford and sons.
!! <3 <3
oooh yay for them. Hopefully they'll start playing some new stuff over the festivals though.
i like them, it's just everyone i've seen so far is:
a) middle aged
b) quite hairy
c) in need of a wash
Bono's hogging the facilities
I've got Morrissey on BBC4. Never been a massive fan as I know some are but liking this.
I just don't think I 'get' Mumford & Sons.
nothing wrong with either of the above....
well.. it is glasto! maybe they camped? :)
channeling shane mcgowan a little. like the music, odd look.
their album got me through the first few tough weeks at uni :)
I think they work better in the winter. Over the snowy periods I found them BRILLIANT to listen to but not so much in the summer. They just have a cold wintery feel to them to me but they're very good.
perfect drinking songs. not convinced it works without a roof.
oooh, yikes, language.
Ahh I can see that, like a sunny December day or something
Is it me or does Stuart Maconie look a bit like a short fat Martin Brundle
http://lockerz.com/s/113754106
Don't see it myself, although his friend does look like brian c... oh.
changed to watch morrisey. every mumfords song sounded the same as the last.
oooh, satellite of love :)
First song I've recognised all day.
heheheh
:)
Earlier he did Alma Matters and Every Day Is Like Sunday.
Is this one he normally does? Not heard this version :)
Erm... pass :)
lou reed, originally. didn't know he covered it, but eavis approves :)
wombats need to cover it then.
might be raining at glastonbury right now. a lot :)
And now to BBC2 for Glasto, woohoo!
noah's whale is enjoying the weather.
the story of u2? We havent got all night, they're on soon :)
"a quarter of a century's worth of expectation on their shoulders"
"And a mullet pat sharpe would be proud of"
lovely extensions.
:)
Are you watching in the car with a kidnapped christine by any chance?
heheheheh!!!
i have a guinness.
MUSE!
Hey it's Muse. *waves at muse*
*random roadie pops up*
mega rain
Have U2 never headlined glasto before then mr c?
never played here before. bass player joined hot house flowers in the 80's and edge last year.
Blimey, always assumed they'd maybe done smaller stages at least. That is mental!
they should bring muse on for a song.
muse were supporting them for the majoriry of the past year so they've had plenty of practise...
....although my muse
stalkingfollowing skills have dropped a fair bit so I have no idea where they are :) probably rehearsing for reading and leeds.Gaaah, the Edge is just awesome.
bono is just pretending with that guitar. edge is playing both parts :)
(which will be live on the red button too and muse have promised to play the entirety of their second album for the first time in 10 years on it)
(#justsaying)
oh my goodness! why?
ooops, bum note.
they haven't done anything apart from support! absolutely nothing!
that's one more thing than coldplay!.. although they've been writing to be fair :)
i guessed they'd play mysterious ways based on the guitar edge picked up and christine wasn't even remotely impressed. tough crowd.
oddly, three songs off of one album in a row here. retro.
Heheh coldplay have an excuse :D muse aren't starting writing until october so it's been sooooooo quiet on their patch although matt is becoming a daddy soon.
must admit I was expecting newer stuff so it;s nice to see them do older stuff.
did edge bring his own ramp??
he's the egde. His own ramp has it's own ramp.
hehe.
Beyonce?!
Haha
destiny's child, but yeah :)
She was one of them alongside the other one and cameron diaz.
Or thats how the film went anyways.
same album, interesting set list.
they're doing a manics, lots of surprising older stuff ;)
lou, camera!
camera envy for lou!
i mean, bono nicked one.
what what?
If bono can go and nick someone's camera then I don't see why lou can go and grab one of her choice at any random moment too :)
stole a photographers camera and took pictures of him.
woah!
surprised they don't red flag this what with all this rain.
bring out the safety roadie, this is ridiculous
:) :)
Pah, call that rain, when we had our own lil' festival, that was rain.
for a 20 year old collection of songs and a band who's sound has obviously moved on in time they still sound fantastic.
First song I actually like of the evening. We're making progress.
Are they just playing the whole of achtung baby?
:)
so far.
blatently stole muse's idea for reading pfftftftftf ;)
I'm enjoying this on BBC Four
#NoU2
Wait, did we win the Ashes again?
did he split his trousers?
Hey they're covering that song muse did la*gets shot by mr c*
muse's version was better...
Which button/channel are you watching, out of interest?
*Nice rendition of By The Rivers Of Babylon now*
BBC2 at the mo :)
course it was.
it has chris. Everything is better with chris.
Ta
Jimmy Cliff > Bono
random little cant take my eyes off you moment
pet shop boys covered streets and mixed it with can't take my eyes off you.
it's... quite something.
think bono's hair might be a tribute to sonic?
to the youtubes!
Streets was awesome
where have u2 gone?
BBC4
Newsnight stole them and they are about to be on BBC4 but Radcliffe is rabbitting on
Ahh, cheers.
mark radcliff is... talking.
Bassano is switching
You think he'd find it after all these years really.
Bono can't be bothered with that singing business.
I hate that. They've paid to see the band sing, not have a microphone pointed at them
Found Heliocentrics and now The Wombats on the Red Button instead
chooooooooooon.
Yay for this little mini cover of the song I forget the name of but remember from grand theft auto!
It's down the back of the couch
They didn't seem to mind. Probably keeping them warm.
primal scream, i think?
Thats the one. For some reason I always go to say it's faith no more despite them being TOTALLY different. Stoopid game messing with my mind.
They may well be on the Other Stage right now.
Thought they'd be on red button or BBC3 tbh
Is he on about the guy from The Truman Show?
sidepodspace!!
OK that's pretty cool. #sidepodspace
No wonder the streets have no name, they're in space.
wow
Hehehe, totally cool.
Most distant backing singer ever?
out of this world ;)
my parents are having a mammoth coronation street session. 4 episodes now.. it's so depressing. please kill me.. all i wanna do is what glasto.
Do you not have a TV in your room?
You could leave the room, I s'pose
yeah, but i'm doing a few bits and bobs here.. and it would take me half the night to move it (blog post on what i'm doing coming up soon!)
There's only so much the human mind can take of corrie, surely.
Throw on Emmerdale to get them falling asleep quicker
http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/festivals/glastonbury/2011/
hehe i could, but then i'd have to take all of my work upstairs too.. they are usually in bed by 10:30.. lol
has it stopped raining? pedals have been uncovered.
I can't help but feel the bass player needs to headbang more
the drummer stands?
Phew, bet he's happy he remembered to put that necklace on
Which feed is everyone watching? (got Vaccines on here)
Hehehe. Really looking forward to when they show that F1 Top Gear segment.
BBC2 now waiting for U2 to return
This was the first U2 song I ever heard #randomfact
BBC HD channel.
(not bbc1 hd)
i assume the bbc are timeshifting this, or are the band waiting for the news to finish?
They must be. Following newsnight and the weather BBC2 is on sunday bloody sunday?
Wherever U2 aren't
Same here.
Happy with Vacines I reckon.
I liked U2 when I was younger, and more tolerant.
I finally have control of the tv and get to watch the end of my fav u2 song :)
U2, I don't mind on occasion. Bono, I can't abide
Always think of Alan Partridge with that song.
w00t!
Yaaaaay!
i've lost track, is that x1 new guitar per song?
Well, bono's knackered. someone go get matt.
it's only fair.
mum 'gosh it looks cold and wet there'
'how can Bono see out of his glasses in the rain?'
'This is U2 yes??'
love watching music with my mum :)
What's the Edge doing with a Britney Spears mic?
boys gotta jive.
If I were there, I think I'd be at the alternative stage about now
What's that called these days?
hehehehe. your mum is awesome.
coz he knows that your tooxxiiic.
in the same way i enjoy watching F1 with my other half
i think i need a record of my mum's quotes :)
its The Simpsons song!
i'm slippin under.
they're doing an Unforgettable Fire highlight medley as such now.
Heeehehehehe. http://twitter.com/yeahitsjames/status/84384702374481920
heheh
maybe not
no encore?
Zane!!!
really? that must be a first.
OH nooo jo whiley probably thought she just watched the foo fighters or something.
thats a bit disappointing.
no they said they are..
zane is teasing us!
Phew!!!
<3 !!!
choooon!
mum 'i know this one!!'
hehe!
at the time it came out, I hated this song
don't know why
*watches rest of gig sans comments*
:( :( :(
have christine taken control of the car? ;)
not anymore, tastes change, i was just a kid.
Wu Tang!
mum 'which one is brandon flowers?'
she's become a bit of a fan of Mr Flowers, but didn't realise the killers playing hyde park today was different :)
Bono's setting up a bed on the stage, he's literally going to sleep
oh nooooo!!! my flatmates were obsessed with them!
Awwww. Bless her.
I like the pikachu flag!
Take our your ipads
Early Ice Cube was way better
#Bassano'sActuallyFromThe Ghetto
ohhhh mobile phone mexican wave??
Coldplay!
why is he singing coldplay?!?!
joy division, then coldplay
*mind blown*
hehehe mum 'that's not coldplay?? is it?'
am a bit mad at Bono for this.
shake your fist!
Coldplay will sing it much better, despite bono trying to out do them ;)
*switches to BB King*
Oooh he can play the piano too.
"It Was A Good Day" Love that song
First 3 albums after NWA, then it tailed off
mum's comment on the guitar
'that looks really cool! don't you want one?'
'erm.. mum i play acoustic guitar...'
'yeah... but it's cool!'
Goodness me i wish we'd done all evening.
you need to upgrade your internet so badly... live steam needed. :)
*stream, even
Mum has decided to stay up and watch Glasto with me 'much better than Corrie'
steam live, good too :)
geysers for geezers - live stream!
gosh, jo whiley never ceases to drive me mad.
What an encore.
but Zane is too cool!
Zane is a legend! He overbalances the awesome against her grrrrrrrness luckily
Moving on up! Thats the one :)
Mmmmmm, Jo Whiley
Loved the little Coldplay bit in there
Which GTA game is this in? (Can't Remember)
finally getting to watch the mumford and sons act. :)
I don't know why people find her annoying yet don't complain about Fearne Cotton or Reggie.
San Andreas. This is why I had the problem, it is always followed by Faith no More and I always seem to think this song is by them instead. Damn that game.
I dunno. I can deal with them but her... there's just something.
I can see how Fearne could irritate some but I don't mind her either
it's something to do with the fact she apparently 'discovers' bands, then pushes them on the public, then once she's sucessfully made them huge she hates them and publicly slags them off.... coldplay for example. bah!
Was thinking SA, but wasn't sure.
Easy to forget with so many awesome soundtracks for the series :)
If that's the case, I'm on her side
Coldplay: great first album then rapidly down hill from there
#SorryLou
Flying into the Airports in the Private Jet, or the Harrier-type plane. Gaming Heaven for me.
she does it with heaps of other bands too. not just coldplay. she sucks.
For some reason I always forget about Primal Scream even though some of their stuff is great.
When I listened to her, she was all about Coldplay.
Didn't know she changed her tune.
Always, always, always forget their name even though they have some really recognisable tunes
So there's no Darwin Deez or Cage the Elephant sets on bbc. I forgot how disappointing glastonbury can be when you like bands that dont get much coverage.
It's not unusual for bands to make great debut albums with years of perfecting and honing, whilst trying to break the scene. Only to struggle to replicate it when record companies demand another
Some bands promise lots and don't make it past year 2 of fame
She's just someone who wants to hear something new.
Same
Come Together, on this album, a personal favourite
she said something on the radio once or twice, and then there was a rather memorable never mind the buzzcocks when she openly admitted she didn't like coldplay...
they dedicated a song to her a few times and everything. silly woman.
she just does that though. She did do something like that with muse at one point but not to the scale lou mentioned with coldplay.
But I suppose if that's how she is with bands then her loss... just think as a mainstream presenter of music you'd be more consistent with what you broadcast...
There's nothing like being there, if only the BBC could iPlayer every set
Nowt wrong in that
So do I. I can't think of a single band I dislike after liking them.
I can think of several examples the other way round.
Yeah they like to repeat things that have been on already instead.
Sure that wasn't a joke on a comedy panel game?
Not at all but I just find it hard to take her seriously I suppose because of how she can be with bands. Plus I can't stand her presenting style anyways. She's just a double whammy of annoying :)
Jo Whiley is NOT mainstream
Just cos you like a band now, doesn't mean you have to pledge allegiance to them
One side becomes fickle, the other sycophantic. It's a lose/lose scenario
i think it's a matter of opinion and tastes, i've loved every coldplay album (x and y isn't too great tho) it doesn't make it fact, and just because Ms Whiley says they're good or not doesn't make it fact either.. what i don't like is that she appeared to change her tune at the time it became uncool to like coldplay. She also now can't even admit (or she couldn't) that their earlier songs that she once loved were very good.
I'm just don't like her, i find her patronising on the radio and annoying to listen to, her disliking coldplay in such a fashion as she did didn't help :)
ah maybe one day :)
Stereophonics
completely. but there have been a few jokes on radio 1 since along the lines of 'she's not their biggest fan'
Absolutely, quite a few bands I fall in and out of love with regularly.
for exmaple with zane lowe now I could happily listen to what he has to say about new bands or new music or old music too just because to me I could trust what he has to say and what knowledge he has with music, and he's actually interesting to listen to. I just don't have that with jo whiley whatsoever.
hehe Zane loves Friendly Fires i can't wait for his reaction tomorrow. His interview with them when they released Pala was so funny :)
Yep, although I still like the first two albums and Dakota and a few other songs. But I really went off them for a while.
Biffy Clyro is another. Loved the first three albums, then the style changed and I went off them totally. Tough for bands to strike a balance between moving on to stop being staid and samey, and coming up with something different which is good.
Heheehehe. Granny Turismo :D
He has good knowledge and his TV style is okay but his radio persona is all OUT THERE and ON THE EDGE and RAH and just shut up play the damn song.
I played them in 2008, didn't know who they were at the time.
Bono are on BBC2 know if Mr C is still around
*U2, even. Not just bono, deary me
Jump in the pool is one of my all time favourite songs, every time it's played i can't help but smile. no matter how upset/grumpy/annoyed i am at the time :)
Was it on the f1 they kept playing it? For some reason it reminds me of Monaco, maybe it was used with the Webber stuff... I dunno.
One of those mental images you get when you listen to a song.
Wow, can hardly hear them over the rain
Word Gets Around is superb, as is Performance And Cocktails. JEEP onwards is downhill fast in my eyes. MOR rubbish
Bands move on, as they should. Sometimes a fans taste will grow with them, other times they move in opposite directions
Larry doesn't seem that happy does he?
it was used for the introduction to the Aussie GP qualifying 2009.. :)
I have no idea why I associate it with monaco then.
Should we be back in the Daily or is everyone watching something from Glast?
I literally have no idea what Bono is on about :)
Still watching the BBC2 stuff here
Still like Crazy
Now watching: Two Door Cinema Club
Didn't know they were Irish?
Doesn't seem to age. Fab song.
Gnarls?
me too!
me neither! didn't even know what they looked like though.. just loved their music.
Is a good album
Cee Lo is on BBC2 at the mo, did a lovely version of it just there
Yeah
Sample was from a Spaghetti Western apparently.
I will happily listen to that one song of theres ;)
Sounds about right
I like his Star Wars costumery adoration
i hope they do i can't talk such a tune :)
Tonight he's going for the 80's wrestler entrance look
For some reason I had the game "Doom" in mind.
must check it out then
I was thinking the board game Space Crusade, with spikes
I'm heading off to bed, nighty night guys. Looking forward to more awesome tomorrow :)
night night!
night Lukeh
>
G'night Sir
Dirt 3 comes to mind now
oohh a new song!
Like this guys voice. A lot
time to sleep i think. enjoy any last bits of coverage everyone! x
night lou
Rumer on BBC red button makes for nice background music whilst I listen to Radio Le Mans..
Warpaint on red button
I want to like The Kills but something about them puts me off, just can't work out why
Has anybody been watching today?
I've got Jimmy Eat World on Freeview. Apparently, Friendly Fires are supposed to be on 3 at some point but I keep checking and they aren't there
I think they were just on. We have Jimmy too.
Ahh okay, must admit I turned it off when stuff I didn't like was on both available channels.. must have rejoined too late
Mr Friendly Fire was playing a cowbell at one point, then there were some hula dancing girls.
I'm here for the night now for some glasto fun times.
Watching jimmy eat world at the moment, used to LOVE this song :)
Is it wrong the lead singer reminds me of giggles?
Elbow on BBC3!
Think I'll switch. Not quite sure what has come on the red button..
I like how the Elbow singer looks like he's just turned up from work
Hahah, reverse Mexican wave
Hehehehehe!!
Reverse mexican wave!
That's quite awesome.
"I love how you're doing these noises spontaneously"
I was going to say this Elbow chap is slightly embarrassing, like he might break out dad dancing any second. But he's gone up in my estimation now. Good wave.
At least he admits he's stealing from Freddie.
100,000 people and I see 4 oompa loompas in the crowd. Brilliant.
Choon!
OMG!
Did you see them too?!
It's like Where's Wally :D
Who knew the Oompa Loompas were Elbow fans!
Their staff room must be brilliant. Wonka never had a clue.
:)
He has his own mini drums!
Haha "Down it, down it, down it."
I think he was contemplating that for a moment
Hehe. I like his crowd interaction.
Noah and the Whale on BBC3 now.
BBC2 is go
Thank goodness... *switches over from noah*
Beeb must be saving One Day Like This by Elbow for later..
I've never really got this guy, Paulo Nutini.
Neither have I. I've gone back to 3 where Elbow are being interviewed.
yay there it is
Friendly Fires on BBC2 now
Heh, Jay Z was watching on over Elbow today :)
Janelle Monae is weird in a good way
The story of coldplay on BBC2 and they are showing politik :D
She ought to have been on tomorrow before Beyonce though
This is going to be very awesome :)
Woooooooooooow at the size at the crowd from the helicopter!
Why are they playing Back to the Future?
I was about to say!!
Fireworks!
Fireworks at the start of a gig, goodness!
Starting with a new song, brave :)
What an awesome guitar.
Oooh the U2 song. ;)
home in time for yellow!! <3 ahhh so pleased i haven't missed much.
Did i hear that Jay Z is there today?... i sense he may be making an appearance if so :D
yaaaaaaaaaaaay! it felt wrong not having the uber coldplay fan here.
going slighting mental.. if i could dance around my room i would right now.
butterflies!
aaahhh they have confetti butterflies again!! just like at wembly!! :D
also glasto crowds singing along to the actual musicy bits = always awesome. No matter the band it never gets old :)
i still have my confetti butterfly *sad coldplay fan*
Did i miss any songs? what did they play before yellow?
MX/Hurts like Heaven but thats it. Also, fireworks!
hehe did they have sparklers again? they had fireworks and sparklers at the start of their tour gigs last year..
Didn;t see the sparklers but the fireworks were most awesome :)
It feels like the end of the set with the fireworks and the confetti stuff!
Hehe. Chris is funny.
they release their new EP at midnight so am hoping for a few new songs and a surprise?. :)
OOOOH. Major Minus. I love this already.
aaahhhhhhhhh!! Major Minus!!!!
ohh i'm so sorry comments i will only get worse.
That's what the thread is for. Eek away :)
it's perfectly fine, I did it for Muse last year so you have no reason to hold back :D
i (heart) him quite alot.. not as much as Jenson.. but quite alot..
I LOVE the fact their new stuff has guitar solos. :D
i love how good they are live.. like their stuff or not, i think it's pretty good they don't sound awful on stage like many bands do..
aahhh and they are tweeting pics too! <£
Lost! Yay!
so.. will Jay z appear..?
i want more confetti in my life.
Chris has a nice little jig going on
during lovers and japan he used to dance with a parasol <3 nearly melted. it was so sweet.
Well he was definitely stage side earlier for Elbow (who he loved apparently) so you never know!
Heheheheeh!
Yeah some of the bands this weekend have sounded pretty bad
i don't mind if he doesn't but it would be most excellent :)
although i like to think Jay Z is watching this song doing his own bit to himself anyways :)
Hehehe!
Nice mix of songs so far :)
so i'm just sitting here singing along.. i'm gonna need to watch it again at this rate just to hear chris properly :D
I love how happy their performance feels, the whole band look like they're really enjoying themselves. Haven't seen that from many bands this weekend tbh.
i also want a multicoloured piano... not that i can play the piano but that's not the point.
Jonny looks a bit like Simon Pegg :)
every time i've seen them live on tv or in concert Chris just loves what he does, they all dance around and have a great time. Best surprise was seeing them sing billie jean and they were all giggling.
omg! Simon Pegg sang christmas carols with them at their christmas concerts in '08 :) hehe they're good friends! :)
it's a fabulous live presence, even through the telly. In comparison noah and the whales earlier felt like they were at a funeral, it was miserable.
Such a huge, huge difference,
in fairness their album is miserable... never follow up a happy album about getting together with Laura Marling with an album about how cold hearted she was when they broke up is the lesson :)
They haven't lost anything on their older stuff have they, good lighting show too
aaaahhhhhhhhh!!!! <3
Wish Chris would tell Matt that older stuff is still awesome to play!
Hehe, I haven't heard their newest album but it was like... cheer up lads, you're at glastonbury! run about on the stage or something!
hahaha it's funny really it sounds happy and then you listen to the lyrics and it's like ... 'oh'..
oh gosh Chris did you forget the words? bless :)
i love that we're getting twitpics of the performance from back stage.. thank you for being social media friendly coldplay :)
oh my goodness! new guitar riff... i like :)
alternative version of god put a smile upon my face?
they do some lovely introductions
can someone get me a guitar like that? pretty colours.. :)
hehehee Will on the dums!!! :D
so that's a toothless... a pretty guitar... a paddock pass...
Christmas is gonna be expensive :)
:D well my 20th is coming up in a few months..
can the guitar have UV paint on it too? :)
Ohh you want it on the guitar...
#sorrytoothless
This is really going back a bit isn't it? Think it was on parachutes but not 100%
Final track on it I think. I do like it.
Yeah it's lovely. Just surprised how far back they've gone, and that's a very good thing :)
so was shiver?
Shiver was on parachutes?!
pretty sure? why?
Holy crap, i've heard that song for years and never ever realised. my life is a lie. :o
solo for Johnny!
parachutes is an amazing album
Agreed. I just totally didn't realise shiver was on it for some reason. *facepalm*
hehe it's before Spies i think..
new song time?
New song!!!!!
it could have been on an EP but i'm pretty sure it's on parachutes. will check later.
Shiver is second on Parachutes, yes.
I shalln't dispute your coldplay knowledge :)
thank you :)
Awww they messed it up!
ahhhhh!!! Chris you legend! <3
Thank you, and apologies all round for my shocking memory!
awww when they interview Chris he'll beat himself up about this. can't have his songs wrong. it's kinda cute.
they played this at a german gig the other week. lovely.
Hehe. Parachutes I know. Very little else :)
you can totally tell they locked Chris out of the studio of 4 weeks to get the other band members trying out new things etc. :)
YAY!!!!
I kind of think a band shouldn't be allowed to headline Glasto until they've got 10 years of material behind them. And it must be a rule of playing the festival that they must include old stuff.
I'm jumping between Coldplay and Chemicals right now
Nice to see coldplay getting plenty of love on twitter too. Refreshing from the usual hating on them for the sake of it attitude.
it's cause normal coldplay fans lay low because the bashers are nasty... but when coldplay headline glasto no one can contain their excitement!
I'd agree with that. A band should never forget what made them what they are as the fans never, ever will.
Depressingly muse are playing Origin of Symmetry songs for the last time ever last month so the band say...
Gosh I like politik. soooo much. *hugs tv*
Chris has said they'll always play the classics cause he understands how much they mean to people.
Chemicals are doing Star Guitar, I'm staying on that for a little bit :)
OOOOOOHHHHH!!!!! VIVA LA VIDA!!!
I'm glad he's not an idiot. #stoopidmatt
Like U2 last night.
Yay for viva la vida!!! :D
when coldplay concerts finish fans sing the 'oooohhhh' bit to each other. its awesome.
wooooaahhhhaahhhh
hehehe at jay z and beyonce!
jay z!!
Will Champion is a legend
Charlie brown!! Another good new song from that german gig...
Charlie Brown!!! another one they played at the German gig! love it!!
ohhh please be on the EP release in less than an hour
The only way i could be happier right now would be if i was there. :)
Don't care for some new stuff and haven't heard the lastest, Hey Boy Hey Girl was just on 3 with some weird laser people on the screen..
will come back to 2 in a minute
:D
Love that Guy Garvey and Janelle Monae are in the trending list in the UK
Chems stopped doing recognisable things so I turned back P:)
i never dreamed they'd do this.
Fireworks!
ACTUAL SIMON PEGG.
So what'll be in the encore
NO DON'T GO YOU NEED TO PLAU TROUBLE!!! AND maybe CLOCKS!!!
encore! encore! encore! encore!
trouble, clocks, or their usual which is life in technicolour..
wooooaaaahahhoooaahhhhh
aahhhh!! they are true coldplay fans!! viva calls to the band :) <3
It'd be better if there weren't two distinct sections doing it at different times :)
Jo shhhhhhhh.. we want more coldplay
hehehe. it's a big crowd I suppose!
She's been quite nice about them so far.
in a smaller gig like Wembley they are in time.
am impressed, but i don't want to hear her..
Same as U2, I guess. This encore business is confusing.
CLOCKS!
clocks!!
i'd happily just watch the crowds till they came back :)
Now I know simon pegg is actually there I reckon simon pegg and jonny were swapping between songs. Those sneaky boys.
kinda hoping for Lovers in Japan but that may be a wild hope. it'll be great whatever they play tho.. more confetti please!
i'll find a video of Simon singing with them after this to blow your mind a bit. :)
Well it's already had a bit of a blowing thanks to a brilliant performance so you may as well finish it off :D
have they played Every teardrop yet? am assuming that'll be played... seeing as it's their new single?
Nope not yet. Maybe to close the encore? It has that.. ending to a gig type of feel to it... if you get what I mean
Fix you approaching?
hope so.
whaaat a woonndeerfulll wooorrlllddd
hehehehe!! <3 they love this song :) i have 3 versions of the lyrics from them
:')
and there's fix you :)
This should be awesomne.
This is their best song by a country mile
i disagree but it's certainly top 5 for me :)
Chris' crazy dancing is always epic.
That video of him running around the stadium during this bit is one of the best things I've seen at a gig, absolutely awesome!!
NOOOO please don't go....
We want mooooooore!
ahhh every teardrop is indeed closing
excuse me while i dance round the lounge...
Hehehe I was playing this out loud the other day and mum wondered why it had bagpipes. Love those little guitar bits :)
Ohhh fab visuals on the pyramid :D
Woah!
woah I've never seen that before
*stands and applauds*
:') <3
wooooaaahhooaahhh
I think everyone is like, whaaatttt they lit up the pyramid!
As well as BOOOOOOOM that was AWESOME
Can't believe the TV have put someone else on. How could anyone follow that?
Especially with this, yikes.
also a bit bemused at Jo saying how emotional she was following that. Uhh.. yeah you seemed it...!
I'm so so pleased people are impressed.. well they Jo and this dude are.. and yaay! when coldplay perform they give you a performance. they travel with all the same people year on year and plan everything meticulously. am pleased it's worked out for them.
*massive coldplay love*
reeeeeeeeeeeeeallly need to make sure tickets are snapped up as soon as possible when the gig dates are announced. must. see. coldplay.
so much love for them on the interwebs too!
they are incredible. after seeing them at wembley and coming out of the stands to everyone doing the viva calls and just walking down the street singing it to strangers and just... they're an amazing band to see live.
May well see them more than once if i get the chance. Album is out in Autumn tho so we may have to wait a while.
What is this rubbish?!
Hahaha. Jo and this dude. They'll be thrilled :)
'this dude' is Mark Radcliffe! off of Mark and Lard!
:) i don't know who he is :)
who?..
Mark and Lard were essential Radio 1 afternoon listening in... er... 1997-2000?
Can we go back to jo whiley please? #desperate
OH!!! i forgot the daily!!!
Phew!! No more Glasvegas.
Oh my god the lead singer is called James allen.
*shrugs*
ohhh White lies! :)
!
where to are they? I has a studio performance of... someone
you mean where are they? and they're not on my screen either.. but they mentioned them.
Ahhhh! Missed that.
And yes I do. :P
i will make you talk and type properly :)
where are they to
Even after a megablastic performance!
yaaaaaayyy!!!! COLDPLAY!
Ooooh they're gonna try get coldplay :)
i think they have them ;)
yay for Greg!
He appears to have travelled from the countryside to havana. Impressive.
That's when I was 19ish
I love how searching for simon pegg on twitter has hundreds of other people in the same position as myself - amazed at how much coldplay's guitarist looked like him then actually seeing him watching in the crowd
Twas a moment for minds to be blown worldwide
Wow the production costs on the new Batman film are poor
ohhh Coldplay are sooo good with their PR this year... Their amazing Glasto set finishes and then you can buy their new EP for the first time. :) purchased and listening to :)
aaahhhhhhh!!!!
wait.. where are Guy and Jonny??
i like his shoelaces :)
Chris' voice is proper crackling!
then again Will and Chris are the ones that are better in an interview.
'i asked bono to have a word with God' <3
He has one orange lace and one green lace. Argh.
*protects Chris from Christine*
They haven't finished it??
Bloody hell, 85 minutes.
ohhh no no just release the 85 mins :)
hehehe Will Champion is ace!
I can't believe he doesn't own any drums!
Chris is gone :)
ahhh i do love Chris.
your Muse Chris guy has nothing on Will Champion.. ;)
:O!
Take that back!
....can't they both be awesome? :)
course they can!
woohoo!
That pyramid is stunning. I have never ever ever seen it projected like that! Love it!
Once the coldplay goodness is over i shall write my (probably pretty short) daily.. hope no one minds too much!
Dear Dude and Jo, Chris can't watch or hear his own live performances in public cause he can be too critical ;)
ooooooh white lies!!!!
White lies? ohh deary me it's all too much for me.
Dude and Jo look to be getting very cosy.
I finally got round to buying their albums with my itunes vouchers. Absolutely awesome :D
hehe :)
write daily time while singing along.
Those are some bright hats!
Bass player may fall asleep at any point me thinks
It's all gone pete tong
literally.
That's Pete Tong?? Of "it's all gone a bit Pete Tong" fame? He doesn't look like I'd imagined.
I had a more... Rhys Ifans type of look in my head.
no where near as cool as i thought he would be.
You think he looks a bit Pete Tong?
He's been around a while.
ohhhhhh!! friendly fires!! i forgot about them! :( need to find them on the red button for daily writing goodness.
well they aren't on red button. thank goodness for sky plus then.
There was stuff of them before Coldplay lucky for you :)
I'm surprised at the lack of coverage, only seen one song. A few people I've never heard of are geting more promo.
i recorded the bbc 3 show. :)
Chem's look fun to be at
Oooh they'll defo be on that then!
Its like living in my very red bedroom but brightier
it's a paulo nutini and friendly fires show (or so it says) so i hope so!
ehehehe!!! Ed from friendly fires can't dance.. but OH MY GOD lol!! shake your hips Ed! lol
I like the drummer :) he was very cool.
superstar dj, here we go
Jack Savage. hehe i love that the band is made up of Ed, Ed and Jack :)
:D
Chemical Brothers not my type of thing at all so time for me to head off to sleep. Night guys
See ya.
They said it would only be these two.
Watching Janelle again now on Freeview red. She's doing a Jackson 5 cover :)
Friendly Fires has cowbells! <3
They are playing Aloe Blacc AGAIN
Anyone watching Glasto on BBC3?
Ooh, I completely forgot. Will turn the tv on, who's playing?
Pendulum at the moment, opened my eyes quite a bit. Not what I was expecting at all but in a good way!
Although they're just finishing. Think kaiser Chiefs might be on now.
Can't say I know them. They looked a bit Rock, were they?
Well I always assumed they were dancey stuff with DJ's as their sound is very electronic. But turns out they are quite rock-y :)
RATM-esque?
I wouldn't say that much. I'm trying to think of what to compare their sound to but everytime I've heard their stuff I always assumed it was a bunch of DJ's because it has that dance/house 'boom boom boom' vibe to it but with a bit of a rock feel too.
I realise I'm explaining it like an old man but I'm not sure how else to explain it :D but yeah, was pretty impressed after seeing them just there as they weren't what I thought at all and they seem really good live.
Ricky Wilson's looking a lot trimmer with the Kaisers now. Wondered where they'd been,
I've always loved "I predict A Riot". Nothing has topped their first album
Oh blimey, I didn;t realise Beyonce was following up QOTSA... that's... an interesting combo :D
Half the audience will leave between those sets D
"Highlights, Ricky?"
"No it's natural"
Giggles would be proud :)
Different stages though?
Ohh, they said qotsa were on the pyramid stage but they must've got it mixed up. Guessed Kaiser Chiefs were highlights from earlier but I guess they were live then.
:D
Makes more sense
Hearing Zane say "Purupheral Vusion" is funny
I saw a bit of Paul Simon's set whilst at mum's. Stepdad couldn't believe how old he looked.
Haven't seen anything else today.
Agree with Lukeh about Pendulum, don't like them at all on the radio but live they can be good and energetic. Missed them today though.
Does Beyonce really need a trailer?
Time for the Red Button, she's on
Call me crazy for watching this but she doesn't appear to sing much.
I refuse to put myself through it, so switched
Is she talking a lot of dancing?
Not talking or anything, she's going through the songs but I just find it a bit odd that she doesn't sing any of her choruses and just dances to it :) but then sings the verses mostly
Keytars and everything! Cooool.
Poor cardio :D
Bored of Ms Beyonce now I'm afraid and switching but I lasted 20 minutes, that's something commendable... I think? :)
In a Japanese Endurance game show kind of way, you did quite well :)
The Joy Formidable are on the Red Button
Not on Freeview
QOTSA on 2
Virgin Media have had 5 options all through the weekend, pieces are fairly short though but they rotate quite a lot. Surprisingly good work for them
ohh Plan B on BBC!
