Rob Craighton, Coleton Haywood, BJ Maksymyk and Raphael Robitaille head downhill during the Red Bull Crashed Ice World Championship in Vieux, Quebec

We've discovered something new today from Red Bull - although this appears to be the final event. They haven't gone and invented another form of carbonated beverage, but instead they appear to have created a brand new sport. It looks like a cross between ice hockey and ski cross and involves skaters hurling themselves down a rather scary looking course.

We are quite excited about this prospect, and figured it couldn't hurt to have a live thread for it - especially as there will be a live web broadcast on RedBull.com.

We don't know that it's going to be any good, and we have no idea what the rules are or if there are any. If it turns out to be disappointing, we may just delete this thread and pretend it never happened!

Join us at 12:30am GMT for the live thread. More information available here.

  • Christine21/03/2010 at 00:38

  • Alison21/03/2010 at 00:41

  • Christine21/03/2010 at 00:42

Do you get extra points for style - spinning down the hill?

  • Lukeh21/03/2010 at 00:42

I liked that guys technique of going down a slope whilst spinning. Ide-esque

  • Christine21/03/2010 at 00:43

That guy was well out in front!

  • Lukeh21/03/2010 at 00:43

That spin was actually immaculate. He does deserve points!

I told you the face masks were important.

  • Christine21/03/2010 at 00:49

  • Christine21/03/2010 at 00:50

I suspect that may be after-effects of sponsored lubrication?

I imagine there's enough adrenaline without that.

  • Lukeh21/03/2010 at 00:51

There needs to be more can-design helmets

  • Steven Roy21/03/2010 at 00:51

  • Christine21/03/2010 at 00:54

    Last round of the heats.

  • Steven Roy21/03/2010 at 00:54

Does it get harder or easier the more skaters that have gone over the ice?

I can't imagine anyone here has the slightest idea. Guess it depends how they keep the ice cold.

  • me21/03/2010 at 00:55

    Last round of the heats.

i can't keep up, i'm used to watching f1 where nothing happens for hooooours.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)21/03/2010 at 00:55

Does it get harder or easier the more skaters that have gone over the ice?

For own research purposes - event debuted in Sweden in 2000. Has travelled the globe. Felder won everything going. Quebec 2006 made the sport a big event, and introduced tons of hockey stars to the mix.

  • Lukeh21/03/2010 at 01:34

Like the olympics seems we'll get a small and big final

    Night Lukeh

  • Lady Snowcat21/03/2010 at 07:50

    the windows weren't painted

The reason that you get painted on windows in some old houses in the UK is that there was a window tax....

And I think this is a Kimi sport as he loves playing ice-hockey...
