Donetsk plays host to the first semi-final of this 2012 tournament with Portugal set to take on tournament-favourites Spain. Portugal won their quarter-final against the Czech Republic by just the single goal, whilst Spain made it through with a 2-0 victory over France. The winner will go on to play either Germany or Italy in the final. The stakes are high. I think the only head to head stat we need today is that Spain have only beaten Portgual twice in the last 54 years. Could that all be about to change?

Spain will pass, pass, pass and not shoot, and Portugal will shoot and miss. Great combo.

    Alan shearer is an idiot.

It's got nothing to do with the amount of foreigners in the EPL, it's the lack of English people playing abroad!

Not quite Spain-Portugal (actually you probably couldn't get further away from it really), but a good article here about how modern football sucks: http://therealfacup.co.uk/2012/06/27/the-wembley-way/

I would argue his no-show against Germany and 'couldn't hit a barn door' performance against the Danes would show different. He has been very good against the Dutch and the Czechs, but hardly mega.

No he looks nothing like nelsinho...

  • Will^27/06/2012 at 18:58

are they not picked at random?

Yes. There are 4 pots: the 2 hosts and 2 favs, then next 4 ranked teams, etc. The groups are given 1 team from each pot.

The 2 groups without a host (ie with SPA & GER in) are clearly going to be the harder.

  • Rubbergoat27/06/2012 at 18:58

There's a piqué, a senna and an alonso playing for Spain!

  • Ryan27/06/2012 at 19:00

The 2 groups without a host (ie with SPA & GER in) are clearly going to be the harder.

I've never liked the hosts being automatically in Pot 1. Why not simply put them in the pot they would be assigned normally, and assign them to Groups A and D like they were. I would imagine that way you'd get a fairer and more even selection of groups.

Saying that, you would be less likely to get any real groups of deaths.

To be a ref at the Euros, or the WC or even the Champions League/Europa League, I think you need to be selected to an elite panel and be trained by UEFA. Sort of like a way managers need UEFA Pro Licences to get top jobs.

Refs have a whole range of grades and they need to be a top grade ref on UEFA's list to qualify to ref here. It used to be a big handicap to come from a lesser nation but some of these refs are doing 20 or more Champions League and other European games per season

Answer: Between 1950 and 1959 the FLap got 1 point. If drivers were tied points were shared equally between drivers who set the same fastest lap time (an extreme example of which happened in the 1954 British Grand Prix where seven drivers set the same fastest lap time, and each received 1/7 of a point)..

    0.27 =2/7

7 drivers setting the same lap time is unbelievable. Especially give the variety of cars then. I am still not sure that I believe 3 drivers set identical pole times at Jerez in 97

In the 50s, they didn't have quite the same degree of accuracy of timing (will now endeavour to find out how)

    Hang on, hang on

1/7 is about 0.14 not 0.27. Did this happen twice?

  • Will^27/06/2012 at 19:32

1/7 is about 0.14 not 0.27. Did this happen twice?

    I happened a few times (according to the wiki-record books). Hence 0.27 (approx)= 2/7

  • Steven Roy27/06/2012 at 21:21

  • Rubbergoat27/06/2012 at 21:21

    Nice.

  • Ryan27/06/2012 at 21:21

    I'm enjoying this.

  • Rubbergoat27/06/2012 at 21:22

    1-0 Spain.

  • Steven Roy27/06/2012 at 21:22

Wasn't a great penalty but it went in

  • Will^27/06/2012 at 21:22

    power

  • Ryan27/06/2012 at 21:22

    Cheeky.

  • Will^27/06/2012 at 21:23

    placement - like the deception

  • Mark27/06/2012 at 21:23

    Long run up= better pen.

  • Rubbergoat27/06/2012 at 21:23

    The relief on Pepes face!

  • Will^27/06/2012 at 21:23

    Jaime scores :)

  • Ryan27/06/2012 at 21:24

Was really hoping Nani would miss there.

  • Bassano27/06/2012 at 21:24

Does anyone wear black football boots anymore?

  • Rubbergoat27/06/2012 at 21:24

    Oh almost over the bar!

  • Rubbergoat27/06/2012 at 21:24

Does anyone wear black football boots anymore?

    don't be so old fashioned!

  • Will^27/06/2012 at 21:25

    The dink

  • Steven Roy27/06/2012 at 21:25

    Cheeky.

That is a challenge to Ronaldo surely

  • Rubbergoat27/06/2012 at 21:25

    Lofts it in.

  • Bassano27/06/2012 at 21:25

    don't be so old fashioned!

Blue just looks wrong. Leather shouldn't be blue, ever! :)

  • Steven Roy27/06/2012 at 21:25

    Hit the bar

  • Bassano27/06/2012 at 21:25

    That's gotta be it

  • Rubbergoat27/06/2012 at 21:26

    Knew he would miss.

  • Steven Roy27/06/2012 at 21:26

I wouldn't mind Fabregas missing if Ronaldo did the same

  • Rubbergoat27/06/2012 at 21:26

    Come on Cesc!

  • Steven Roy27/06/2012 at 21:26

  • Will^27/06/2012 at 21:26

    4-3 I'll have that :)

  • Rubbergoat27/06/2012 at 21:26

    Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!

  • Will^27/06/2012 at 21:27

    (assuming Ron would've scored)

  • Bassano27/06/2012 at 21:27

    Will & Steven called it

  • Will^27/06/2012 at 21:28

So if GER win, we'll get a match we've not seen yet, if ITA win, repeat of their 1st match - I know what I'd like to see

  • Steven Roy27/06/2012 at 21:28

    Will & Steven called it

It was 4-2. I refuse to accept Ronaldo would have scored. I think he would have done the dink and Casillas would have saved it

  • Will^27/06/2012 at 21:29

It was 4-2. I refuse to accept Ronaldo would have scored. I think he would have done the dink and Casillas would have saved it

    That would've made his tournament!

  • Ryan27/06/2012 at 21:29

So if GER win, we'll get a match we've not seen yet, if ITA win, repeat of their 1st match - I know what I'd like to see

I don't care as long as its better today.

  • Steven Roy27/06/2012 at 21:29

Ronaldo should have taken an early penalty but I guess he wanted to be the star that won it for them to get his face all over the TV and papers

  • Rubbergoat27/06/2012 at 21:29

Ronaldo should have taken an early penalty but I guess he wanted to be the star that won it for them to get his face all over the TV and papers

That's typical Ronaldo. All glory and no team.

  • Will^27/06/2012 at 21:29

    Jaime's happy - @AlguersuariJA: #LaRoja grandissssssimossss

  • Bassano27/06/2012 at 21:30

Germany to take the cup but would like to see Italy vs Spain

  • Will^27/06/2012 at 21:31

    SPA-ITA; Another stalemate 1-1?

SPA-GER; could be really open, or very closed

  • Will^27/06/2012 at 21:33

    Night guys, same time tomorrow.
