Tennis is back! It’s the final Grand Slam of the year, and this time we find ourselves heading to Flushing Meadows in New York for the US Open. We’ve had lots of great matches this year, and the US Open never disappoints. Serena Williams and Andy Murray look to defend their Championships from 2012, but there are plenty of great players that stand in their way. It’s set to be a fabulous fortnight of tennis, with lots of great matches lined up!

Yay tennis!! Just in time for Murray's match tonight (although I think he is in the late session) sorry it's a bit delayed :(

  • Christine28/08/2013 at 11:58

I see Heather Watson got knocked out already. I wish she was better!

ah yes, that is sad. I much prefer her to Laura Robson.

Matches we can look forward to today-

Lots of good matches, although i fear that the time difference will either mess with my sleep patterns like every year or i'll miss them...:(

Aww, Murray not on till at least 7pm/midnight. Damn timezones.

  • john28/08/2013 at 14:23

greetings fellow tennis / f1 fans.

don't get to see much of the us open, the time zones make it nearly impossible, starts at 1am here and finishes around 11 am or so. it makes it difficult with work but ill try to catch as much as I can. stosur is already out, didn't last long. lleyton might make the second or third round, geez Bernard tomic is our only hope, we used to be so good at tennis, but we now are a basket case and have been for the last 30 years.

Oh, this is another one where the umpire gets off his chair all the time.

    Has it started raining again?

    I believe so!

    I believe so!

Rude, I just sat down with some biscuits and everything

  • lou28/08/2013 at 19:53

Battling with dad. Apparently football is better than tennis :( but he will tune over for Murray... Having said that Dad goes to bed at 11, so it was a given anyway.

It's raining, so if the football is actually live then he's right, it is better!

I always find it amazing that whatever needs to be on TV must be decided by parents, especially fathers/stepdads. I had the same argument on Sunday for the F1 and was shouted at like a 12 year old so I know how you feel.

  • Lukeh28/08/2013 at 19:58

I know I ask this every grand slam and I am very, very sorry but I always forget - do they have hawk eye here?

  • lou28/08/2013 at 19:58

ah it's not a particularly strong argument. I usually get my way with the sport on tv.... I'm putting it down to the fact football hasn't been around for a long time! I say long, I mean oh 24 hours

  • Christine28/08/2013 at 19:59

Here it appears to be called Chase Review. After the bank, I assume.

  • Lukeh28/08/2013 at 20:02

Chase Review sounds like the American cousin of Will Power

  • lou28/08/2013 at 20:51

Still raining at Flushing Meadows, sad times. Looks like i wont be staying up for Muzza's match at this rate!

  • lou28/08/2013 at 21:42

oooh play is back! DelPo is doing well :)

  • lou28/08/2013 at 22:21

Mum just told me she has booked tickets to the WTF's at the O2 again! First evening session! woop woop!!!!! so exciting! :D

  • Steven Roy28/08/2013 at 22:45

Why do they have a Louis Armstrong Court? He was not exactly known as a sportsman

  • lou28/08/2013 at 23:10

DelPo is struggling more than i thought he would :(

  • lou29/08/2013 at 00:24

trying desperately to stay awake, but it's not gonna happen. will have to record Murray's match. Happy to see DelPo doing better now tho :) hopefully into the 4th and final set now.

  • Amy29/08/2013 at 14:54

Why do they have a Louis Armstrong Court? He was not exactly known as a sportsman

he lived near there. i'm sure lots of famous people live or have lived in new york though.

I didn't realise it was non-UK though, as it just ran as normal so my bad

  • Christine29/08/2013 at 17:51

Right, got Serena on TV. First match I've seen this week where one half isn't totally running away with it.

  • Christine29/08/2013 at 17:52

There are a lot of epic tan-lines going on here as well.

  • Christine29/08/2013 at 18:12

I was wrong, Serena's pulling away now.

  • Steven Roy29/08/2013 at 18:14

Who is Boskoboeva? Is she any good?

  • Christine29/08/2013 at 18:15

Who is Boskoboeva? Is she any good?

On this evidence you would have to say no-to-medium.

  • Steven Roy29/08/2013 at 18:17

I bet Amy knows all about her.

  • Christine29/08/2013 at 18:19

It doesn't look like we're going to need to know about her for long though.

I am sure we will find out all we need to by the French open or whatever

  • Steven Roy29/08/2013 at 18:41

That aerial shot makes the main court look like a table tennis table

  • Christine29/08/2013 at 18:41

Federer up next. Definitely heard of him.

  • Steven Roy29/08/2013 at 18:42

Federer up next. Definitely heard of him.

Good. Tell us about whoever it is he is playing

  • Steven Roy29/08/2013 at 18:43

Carlos Berloco? I know the same about him that I knew about Boskoboeva

  • Christine29/08/2013 at 18:46

He is Argentinian. His nicknames are Charly, Panther and Warlocq. His favourite surface is clay.

  • Steven Roy29/08/2013 at 18:54

who needs greg when you have a christinepedia?

You had me worried for a second. I thought you said who needs Greggs?

  • Christine29/08/2013 at 19:23

    First set Federer.

  • Steven Roy29/08/2013 at 19:35

    Kimi

  • Steven Roy29/08/2013 at 20:00

Doesn't look like Roger is going to be over-worked

  • Lukeh29/08/2013 at 20:01

Looks like this will be straight sets

  • Lukeh29/08/2013 at 20:23

I would hate to be a sportsperson and not know what to say after a match if you've beat someone pretty easily

  • Steven Roy29/08/2013 at 20:25

I would hate to be a sportsperson and not know what to say after a match if you've beat someone pretty easily

    Pretty standard

It was not as easy as it looked

He didn't play his best today

I had a good work out

I am sure he will play much better in future

    Federer bingo for the interview

  • Steven Roy29/08/2013 at 20:32

How can Federer dominate a match like that when he only got 52% of his 1st serves in?

  • Lukeh29/08/2013 at 20:41

Watching Errani now. I;m sure thats something from shooting stars

  • Steven Roy29/08/2013 at 20:42

Watching Errani now. I;m sure thats something from shooting stars

    Certainly sounds like it

  • Lukeh29/08/2013 at 20:59

Wow, Dan Evans just beat Tomic

  • Amy29/08/2013 at 21:51

Wow, Dan Evans just beat Tomic

    loooooooools

  • lou30/08/2013 at 19:38

Sad to see Laura didn't make it again Li Na today, but that would have been tough I should think. Watching the Berdych match now

  • lou30/08/2013 at 20:20

Well done Berdych!! Now for Muzza !

  • lou30/08/2013 at 20:36

Wow, Dan Evans just beat Tomic

Dan Evans' calling the trainer out for a bad case of nipple rash was so embarrassing for him. Good that he won tho :) It was a fun match to watch.

  • lou30/08/2013 at 21:40

bit of a longer first set than i expected, but a good match, nice to see some longer points :)

  • lou30/08/2013 at 21:46

I am enjoying how smart Murray is looking this Slam. much nicer colours.

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 21:49

I forgot about the tennis after the football went to extra time.

    So how good is Mayer?

  • lou30/08/2013 at 21:53

    So how good is Mayer?

top 80. He was pretty ambitious in the first set, pushing to try and hit winners quickly within the rally etc. But Murray always had the upper hand on the longer points. With Murray a break up already 2 games into the second set, i think Mayer might have peaked...

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 21:57

To quote Christine last night we probably know all we need to know about Mayer for this tournament

  • lou30/08/2013 at 21:58

To quote Christine last night we probably know all we need to know about Mayer for this tournament

love that! and yes.. i think so.

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 22:15

    Second set to Murray

  • lou30/08/2013 at 22:22

Nice to see a quick second set, hopefully the third will be quick too... I need sleep!

  • lou30/08/2013 at 22:23

Murray throwing away points this game.

  • lou30/08/2013 at 22:26

Oh good... Mayer breaks. Come on now Muzza I would like to sleep soon!

  • lou30/08/2013 at 22:28

Something tells me the third set isn't going to be as straight forward as the second was. Damn

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 22:31

This was supposed to be a simple straight sets job

  • lou30/08/2013 at 22:39

That's the 3rd shirt Mayer has put on this match.

  • lou30/08/2013 at 22:39

This was supposed to be a simple straight sets job

it wouldn't be an andy Murray match without a little wobble in the middle. Just wish he would hurry up and win this match cause its getting a bit painful!!

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 22:47

I thought this game was going to be the service break back. Guess not

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 22:54

Well that was a stupid set to lose

  • lou30/08/2013 at 22:55

Mayer off to change his shirt and shorts.... AGAIN!!!? Once a set seems a bit excessive.

  • lou30/08/2013 at 22:57

It was meant to be a straight sets Murray. Gosh damn us open and the bloomin' time zones

  • lou30/08/2013 at 22:58

I'd be so mad if I was Murray, a break to change his shirt at the end of each set would be so annoying!!

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 22:59

I'd be so mad if I was Murray, a break to change his shirt at the end of each set would be so annoying!!

    Murray keeps changing his too

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:00

    Murray keeps changing his too

but he doesn't go off court and take ages about it. Quick change and he is ready.

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:01

That's much more like it! More of that please Murray.

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:03

    Angry Murray...

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:04

    Focus Murray, calm down.

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 23:19

Surely he can't lose the set from 4-1 now

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:20

Surely he can't lose the set from 4-1 now

if he does i'm blaming you for jinxing him :)

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 23:21

if he does i'm blaming you for jinxing him :)

    Thanks

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:22

This 4th set has been worth it tho, nice to see andy take it up a gear

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:23

    Thanks

it's the sidepodway.... If in doubt #blamesteven ;)

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 23:24

What a way to get the second break. He should be playsing with Bahrami

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:24

What a way to get the second break. He should be playsing with Bahrami

after that charity match at queens I'd pay good money to see that :)

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:25

So if we forget the 3rd set Murray has been on fine form today ;)

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 23:26

So if we forget the 3rd set Murray has been on fine form today ;)

If he sticks to the white shirt he is OK. The red one not so much

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:27

If he sticks to the white shirt he is OK. The red one not so much

good way of looking at it. Lets hope when he gets further next week he isn't wearing red!!

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:28

Ahhh lovely! Bit of a wobble but great fighting from both!! Well done Andy!!

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 23:29

So he beats Mayer and in the next round he gets Mayer. Odd

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:29

Want to watch Delpo vs Hewitt but need sleep.... Hmm goo Delpo!!

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:30

So he beats Mayer and in the next round he gets Mayer. Odd

    hehe!

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 23:32

Clearly signing balls and hitting them into the crowd is popular

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:33

Clearly signing balls and hitting them into the crowd is popular

they don't do it at other slams I don't think...

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:36

Andy expecting some 'funky shots' against Mayer 2. Gonna be a good match!!

Blimey, Murray sneezes once and sky think he has a cold!!

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 23:36

Never seen a player do what Florian Mayer did there

  • Steven Roy30/08/2013 at 23:37

Won the match, picked up his bag immediately and just walked straight off the court

  • lou30/08/2013 at 23:38

Won the match, picked up his bag immediately and just walked straight off the court

yeah that looked really odd! I wonder if he does that regularly.

  • john31/08/2013 at 03:28

    wohoo lleyton beats del potro.

  • Christine31/08/2013 at 17:58

Commentators talking about Nadal who is up next. Feel like I haven't seen him play for aaages.

  • Christine31/08/2013 at 18:59

Nadal wins the first set and takes an inordinate amount of time after time was called. "You don't mention it because of his stature, and because he's such a nice guy," say the commentators. No, you should still hurry him up, no matter who he is. Rules is rules.

  • Lukeh01/09/2013 at 17:46

Gonna try and balance a stream of Murray's match and the Indy Car. My laptop may explode.

  • lou01/09/2013 at 17:54

Apparently i need to wait for corrie to finish and then i can watch Muzza, so i'm watching the scores online. gggooooo Andy!

  • lou01/09/2013 at 18:00

Ah just seen that Ant's car is out of the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo :( come on Andy, you have to win now!

This service game is an awful lot better

  • Steven Roy02/09/2013 at 23:59

Robredo now serving to win the match in straight sets.

In the service game Federer won he missed 5 consecutive first serves

  • Mr C03/09/2013 at 00:02

  • Mr C03/09/2013 at 00:03

    Calmer than I expected

    he wasn't seeded 7th because he'd been having a good year ;-)

  • lou03/09/2013 at 06:21

Knew I should have stayed up for the rest of the match, watched the second set and was so sure Fed would claim the victory still. Oops! First upset then!

  • Lukeh03/09/2013 at 06:56

    shocker!

Well that's one big name out even if he wasn't as highly seeded as usual

Murray on court about to start his match

  • Steven Roy04/09/2013 at 01:11

Murray had his serve broken to go down 5-3 in the first set. Next game he broke Istomin's serve. You can't beat top players if you blow opporchancities like that

  • Steven Roy04/09/2013 at 01:19

Murray got back to 5-5 and Istomin broke him the next game so now he is serving for the set at 6-5

  • Steven Roy04/09/2013 at 01:22

Ignore my last comment. Wasn't playing proper attention. I don't care if chalk dust flew up there was no service break.

    #BlameSky

  • Steven Roy04/09/2013 at 01:36

First set tie break. Murray 5-4 up with two serves to take the set

    First one - double fault

Second one - sticks the ball in the net in a rally

Istomin serves one point and wins the first set 7-6

  • Steven Roy04/09/2013 at 02:17

Second set went to Murray 6-1.

I think he is getting serious now.

Looks like he's through to the quarter finals, although weirdly the first thing I read about the match was how irritated Murray was by it. How odd.

  • Steven Roy04/09/2013 at 11:23

Looks like he's through to the quarter finals, although weirdly the first thing I read about the match was how irritated Murray was by it. How odd.

He was not at all pleased with the umpire and neither were the commentators. He was called out a few times and won every challenge. The umpire over-ruled when he should not have. The one I saw where he got really upset was he won a point with his opponent miles away from getting the ball. The line judge called out, Murray challenged and the ball was about 75% on the line. Despite the fact he had clearly won the point he was made to re-play the point.

  • Mr C04/09/2013 at 11:43

bah was asleep before the game started.

Andy Murray's match against Wawrinka has just started.

I suggest in all comments you just call Wawrinka Stan as it is much easier.

  • Lukeh05/09/2013 at 20:37

Ooh blimey, didn't expect to get home to swimming from this. Stan sounds like he;s having a good match.

  • Steven Roy05/09/2013 at 20:39

I just sat down to watch a bit of the match and it is not exactly going Murray's way. Stan 2 sets up 6-3 6-3 and 3-3 in the third. I think the US Open scriptwriters are making it up as they go

  • Lukeh05/09/2013 at 20:40

would make for an epic comeback though

  • Steven Roy05/09/2013 at 20:47

would make for an epic comeback though

Looks like Roger's doubles partner is doing a lot better than he did. 5-2 up and serving for the match. If Murray makes a comeback from this it has to be the greatest comeback ever

  • Lukeh05/09/2013 at 20:49

    It's not looking good :(

  • Steven Roy05/09/2013 at 20:49

All the way through this tournament Murray keeps changing between a white shirt and a red one. He has switched to red for the decisive game.

  • Lukeh05/09/2013 at 20:50

    Match point...

  • Steven Roy05/09/2013 at 20:51

You would have thought they would do what they do with football and use the colours the players are wearing for their names so you know who is who

  • Mr C09/09/2013 at 22:23

You would have thought they would do what they do with football and use the colours the players are wearing for their names so you know who is who

there's a lot you could improve. the faded triangle beneath the red line should be the first thing to go.

  • lou09/09/2013 at 22:23

You would have thought they would do what they do with football and use the colours the players are wearing for their names so you know who is who

but players change shirts alot most of the time, how confusing would it be if they swapped colours?

also.. at Wimbles it's mainly white.

last year they were on the Beeb i think. The night sessions certainly were, that's why Muzza only ever played in the evening. I think we are still too high for the TV cameras sadly, but much lower than we usually are - which is nice, seeing as mum doesn't like heights!

but surely that is the ideal game? amazing points so evenly matched no-one can break free.

that said, i'm all for speed sporting, i don't know why games don't just start with a tie break. you could do a tournament in a day :)

theyre good if they're occassional but when its every single point, combined with the fact that both of these guys take forever to serve, its just toooooo long
