After this weekend, every team will be at least halfway through their schedules, and situations are starting to get serious. The first game is the Carolina Panthers taking on the Washington Redskins (1700 – Sky Sports) – last year’s all-action multiple-threat rookie QB Cam Newton faces off against this year’s (possibly better version) in RGIII. Another top-level QB-battle is on the cards when the Pittsburgh Steelers play the NY Giants (2015 – Sky Sports) – both have also have strong defences meaning this game will be a top-level matchup all round. The late-night game sees ‘America’s Team’ the Dallas Cowboys travel to the still undefeated Atlanta Falcons (0020 Mon am – C4) – will this be the weekend that the Falcons meet their match? Our Monday game is the New Orleans Saints hosting the Philly Eagles (0030 Tues am – BBC) – Eagles’ QB Mick Vick is close to losing his starting job, so will be looking to play up against a tough Saints’ D.
NFL Week 9

Obviously the last sentence should read:
...Wait - has America changed it's clocks now?! #hatethat
Doesn't look like we've missed much so far.
what's yer plan for this weekend? reckon i'll do c4 and maybe bbc again.
Erm. Probs the 'early' 2 tonight, and then BBC - possibly.
cool! i'll be around most of the evening, keeping an eye on the server :)
:) Coolcool - good luck.
Loving the Redskins' throwback uniforms :)
what's the occasion?
Each team seems to do it ~once a season - unsure exactly why.
i have some recollection of seeing that last year, but might've been in baseball (easily confused).
Did you see the Steelers' 30s throwbacks last week? #bumblebee http://cdn.lastangryfan.com/wp-content/uploads/steelersthrowback.jpg?adb689
hehehehehe
Most people hate them, I really like them.
Skins for it on 4th again - this time for the score.
Turnover on downs
you need some big-whatsits to go up against the competition dressed like that :)
gamepass having issues this weekend:
Aware of reports of intermittent outages. The team is working on it. Please continue to try accessing. Will update once resolved. Thx.
I'd've said that the opposition should be the ones on the look out - for the sting in the tail.
Ahhhahaha, that's funny.
doh!
I know I know ;)
Panthers score - reviewed, and stands - lead 14-3.
I stayed up to watch the Chargers game on Thursday. I was unsure whether I should invest lack of sleep in another dire performance, but no :) they won 31-13.
thursday games? do they play al week then?
1 Thurs. Lots Sun at the various times. 1 Mon.
got ya.
failure of gamepass highlights one major flaw in my dream of IP TV. it's still quite fallible.
I figure that Thursday games are a little too early in 'the weekend' to get many people involved. Last Thurs was my 1st of the season.
You know if you go to the GameCenter you can watch highlights only a few minutes after big plays.
heh, i can't cope with the amount of games i can watch this year, let alone adding more :)
they nicked that from MLB, still cool though
Esp useful if you want to see highlights when you've been at work during a game :)
I didn't expect them to have invented it - doesn't the GamePass have a RedZone channel - showing actions from the games that are <20yards out?
Exactly. Me either. Reasons I watched apart from it being Chargers, was that I'd just got back in, and it started earlier because of the timechange last week - not working this week for me.
Seeing very little of my team in red zone... which is odd really :/
...and as soon as I type that, we score a touchdown, lol
@Jay, who's yours?
oh, twas short. One eye on the screen, lol
Texans in NFL, Rangers in MLB. ;)
:) I guessed it was that game - the only one that was in the RedZone.
Had our bye last week... Don't seem to be attacking much today.
Now it's a touchdown :)
RGIII is on fire - nothing open, he makes plays with his feet - not to mention the great playcalling.
Don't see that everyday :)
( Doesn't mean the Skins can manage to score many points though )
...don't think the Jags will get off the board any time soon.
... Did they get a TD+2?
Cam Newton has stepped up his game this week.
RGIII finding waaay too much pressure in his face on a lot of plays - punting again.
How is the football going today?
Slow but steady...
Panthers doing a job on the Skins - offence and defence. Not close to a barnstormer.
I'm trying to get through my homework today as quick as possible so I can hit the second round of games.
Oh wow, I didn't notice that Carolina and Washington were playing today. I bet that is a QB matchup that many people are hoping turns into a long-term rivalry.
It promised so much, and Cam is delivering. RGIII is doing his best, but he has too much on top of his too quickly.
Apparently for 17 out of the last 18 elections, the Redskins result the weekend before the election predicted the election result.
Redskins win = incumbent win. Redskins defeat = challenger win.
Another 3-&-out from RGIII. Then trying for it on 4th, big sack. bad times.
I want to reply to this but I don't want to make waves.
hehe, just repeating the commentator's comment from earlier. :)
That is some good correlation...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redskins_Rule
I know, I could use that in my research course!
That's the one :)
Shucks, was looking forward to winding up the office's resident Raven about the Browns result tonight...
Seeing a few illegal formations tonight...
Skins not having much luck all round.
So, Panthers won 21-13.
Steelers Giants should be a great game!!
Gah!! Want to watch that one! Still typing up a paper.
Both QBs drafted '04. Both QBs with 2 Rings. :)
Yeah, but the refs won one of them for the Steelers.
The record books don't remember that ;) Plus they did have to get there.
Seattle fans just like to bring that up. :D
You a Seahawk?
Eh. I don't really have a team. They are one of the closest teams to where I live. I tend to cheer for players more than I do teams (in the NFL anyways). English football is a whole different matter...
Has to be said that their new unis are rather sweet - with the lime green detailing.
Pitt - NYG GameCenter: http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2012110410/2012/REG9/steelers@giants#menu=drivechart&tab=track
Evening all
We seem to have seen an awful lot of the Giants over the last two seasons
Hey Steven.
Hi Steven
My wife is a big Eli fan. Which is ok I suppose, it got her to go to Superbowl Parties with me.
Evening. They do seem to be a very popular choice.
I hope the steelers are back to their regular uniforms and not those abominations they wore last week.
I liked them :)
They are
They were no San Diego powder blues for sure.
They were distinctive. They were never going to be confused with any other team
I like them as well :D #GoBolts
Not sure I like the idea of a QB wearing gloves
Which one is wearing gloves?
Roethlisberger
Seems like that could interfere with the snap and accuracy...
Not on his throwing hand :S
That'd just make me feel lopsided.
On both hands
True - wear a play-band on the other then.
...Not liking him wearing one on his throwing hand - wasn't clear I know.
He thinks he gets a better grip on the ball and gets more spin on it with the gloves
I agree with that logic, but it must be different to his usual throws.
apologies for the downtime. was expecting maybe an hour of outage, but it's back already :)
Test
I'm reading your test
:)
so what did i miss?
One disputed refereeing decision
Steelers scoring. Now 2 Giants scores.
We are back officially too. Love this site. So useful
http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/sidepodcast.com
re: the fumble TD. I've just realised, I said I thought Big Ben lost control when the Giants man hit him. Therefore, it should be a fumble. In which case, correct call :-)
Looked like he had some form of control, but then did panic that the ball was coming out rather strangely.
Tampa missed a field goal at the end of the half. 54-yarder. Trail 10-7.
Seen it again, still think incomplete, probs more so.
I think missing a 54 yarder can be forgiven
For me it looks like the Giant knocked the ball out of his hand before his arm started a forward motion. When he started the forward motion he did not have proper control of the ball so i would say that's a fumble
I still think it looked like his hand re-clasped at the ball and started a good throw, before getting lost somewhere between his shoulder and forwards of that.
(We could discuss that all night, and by discuss I mean repeat the same stuff, and not change our minds.) ;)
Now that is something we have never done on this site before. Oh wait....
Half time
:)
About time to switch to 5Live and bed.
night chappie. appreciate the thread.
Night Will
Ohh I'll still be in the thread :) Glad it's got a good bit of use :)
ahhh! well hello again then :)
:) Plus I've got 3/4 G+T to finish.
That seemed like a really short half time.
Commentator on Sky says he checked the rule on the fumble/incompletion at half time and had the decision explained to him. He says I was right so obviously he knows what he is talking about
End of debate then. (Doesn't change my opinion.)
♥
i haven't even seen it, but i like the debate.
I am sure the debate will go on for a long time because it was not absolutely clear cut
Go to the GameCenter - they have the big-plays as mini highlights.
My thoughts exactly :-)
Sorry, got sidetracked. Looks like I missed the last forty minutes.
Also, Mr C, Gamepass is great. Fully recommend it. Will try to review for my website soon.
ah-ha. how long you subbed for?
Bucs TD
They lead 20-10 halfway through 3rd.
Since last weekend. It's now £65 :-)
oof! want.
how many games are viewable atm?
Anything not on TV. So Minnesota-Seattle and Tampa-Oakland are both on live. Of the early games, all bar whatever was on Sky were live.
And everything is available on catchup, the the whole season. Plus previous seasons too.
Postseason (i.e. playoffs) not available on the £55 gamepass, but is available on the £65 gamepass - not live, as they're all on Sky, but on catchup, you'll be able to see them all.
so tempted. am gonna have to get it soon. did you manage to get the quad view thing to work, couldn't using the free preview - https://gamepass.nfl.com/nflgp/secure/packages
i can't watch nfl non-live though. i need the comments :)
Might be worth not watching the Sky games on a Sunday
Tampa TD.
We can watch whatever :-) I can see them all.
*Except between 7pm-10pm
Yes :-) https://twitter.com/Noelinho/status/265235500296728576
no, no. carry on.
it is amusing how sky have foiled my live sport enjoyment this year.
o.m.g!!
Ie watching games that are not blacked out on GamePass
seems we can't all watch the same games unless we all either all sign up to sky, or all sign up to gamepass. best plan is to keep doing what we're doing.
especially as my viewing hours are constrained.
I know! When I combine Sky Go and Gamepass, I can watch five games at once :-)
am confused why you got gamepass if you already had sky? dedication?
Once the F1 season is over, I will likely cancel my Sky Go as I would only watch NFL on Sky, and I now have Gamepass for that.
So I can see all the games. Sky is for F1. I wil only subscribe to Sky during the F1 season. Cancelling after Austin :-)
*Although I will re-subscribe for the playoffs ;-)
second person to say that to me today. wonder if sky are prepared for a mass exodus in a fortnight.
Well, Brazil is on BBC, so I don't need it for that. Remember, I'm online only - no dish, so no contract. Lots of people have unnecessary contracts.
Raiders TD
All those players spend all day knocking lumps out of each other then all stop for a quick prayer together. Weird
Broken rib?
Dud flag if that holds.
Good. Player wasn't touched. He was fair game.
Seattle FG. Lead by 10. 5:xx left.
I remember when the Raiders defence was the scariest thing in football after their fans. That was so soft it was pathetic. One player just waltzed through the whole defence with ball in hand
TD Steelers
From the 50 yard line. Caught the ball about the 40 and ran it in
Just caught it! Had that game muted, still watching Tampa mainly. Still life in the Steelers yet!
The only thing about the multi screen in gamepass is that the games are a bit small.
Pittsburgh looking confident now.
How can a team lead this late in the game when they have not made a third down?
PUNTER MADE A TACKLE!
The punter didn't tackle him. The returner stuck his toe in hte ground and fell
No, he tackled him. Simple, but did the job.
Watch the returner's right foot. He stuck his toe in the ground and fell. The punter technically tackled him but it wasn't his efforts that stopped him
Nah, without the touch, I don't think he goes down.
Faked the kick and lost out
That play had disaster written all over it. Fake pass would have been better that close to the goalline.
I'm watching three games. They are all at adverts.
Respect for running a fake - but it didn't sound like a good play.
Not when making the kick would have tied the score. Almost looked like the Giants read the fake from the start
When the field goal is so close, it's tough to block, so it makes sense to cover the fake when it's 4th & 1.
Seattle win 30-20 vs Minnesota.
Steelers are already back at the Giants 17
Looks like 4th and 1 again from the 10
Offside - 5 yard penalty - repeat 3rd down. Bad mistake
First down. 1st and goal from the one yard line
TD Steelers. Eli has 4 minutes to do the kind of thing his brother does
Oakland lead against Tampa!!!
Wait, no. It was a two point conversion.
They trail by three. I was wondering how I managed to miss a touchdown.
Watching too many games
It can be hard to keep up. Especially when I'm doing FantasyF1 results tables for my website right now.
If you're able, the Tampa match is boiling now. Raiders to receive th epunt, three fown.
*the punt, three down.
Raiders intercepted. Game over.
Sky just showed it. Very weak pass
Steelers win. Giants could do nothing right in the 4th quarter
Yeah, he was under pressure. Tampa TD now too.
What's the C4 game tonight?
Dallas-Atlanta?
Palmer picked off again.
That's the one
Eagles - Saints at 0130 tonight :) Anyone up for it?
For a while, yes
Good times :)
The BBC is behind enough for GameCenter to have the plays up before the snap.
Looked like a completion from here.
Upheld.
Defos thought Mr C would be at least #nothere for this one.
Saints have dialled up some serious pressure.
Saints miss long FG.
BBC having a better time of it wrt blue screens. Hardly any tonight :) Lots more shots of the field (without audio obv.) and the occasional VT.
Vick throws INT while deep in RedZone = Saints 98 yard pick-6!
Eagles FG.
Saints TD.
Saints TD. Brees extends his throwing streak.
I think sleep is the better choice right now - game's doing nothing for me.
ahh, i forgot.
I wish I had.
Sorry, I fell asleep waiting for the BBC to actually put the game up. It got to 1:35 and still nothing...
I know their coverage is slightly delayed, but it might've kicked off a few mins late as well.
