After (me) getting confused by two lots of changing time-zones over the last two weeks, hopefully everything’s correct this time... The still unbeaten Atlanta Falcons are hosted by divisional rivals New Orleans Saints in our first match on Sunday (1800 – Sky Sports) – what makes this game even more of a must-watch; it’s a must-win for the Saints. Next up two teams who are having a tough time of it (QBs especially) as the Philadelphia Eagles play the Dallas Cowboys (2125 – Sky Sports). Finally on Sunday, two teams with 7-1 records do battle when the Houston Texans take on the Chicago Bears (0120 Mon am – C4) – expect strong offensive and defensive performances from both sides. On Monday night, a fast rising team host another who are at the forefront of the race for the First Pick in the 2013 Draft; the Kansas City Chiefs play at the Pittsburgh Steelers (0130 Tues am – BBC).
NFL Week 10
Published by Will Davies on
As usual, I'll be around after 10pm. May be around for a little before 7pm.
Time to try to watch 2 games at a time - 1st featured & Chargers...
BOOM - Chargers' TD within first minute!
And the Buccs have pegged it back.
Falcons already 10-0 up.
Saints pulls back TD against Falcons: 10-7.
Chargers TD, lead: 14-7, 4:19 in the first.
Sorry, Internet trouble. Out now. Hoping things will work when I get back. Had to factory reset my router. No idea how effective it was yet!
Walked away, and now back - missed quite a bit:
Chargers up 21-17 :D
Saints up 21-17.
Them Saints are now 28-17... Are the Falcons about to have their streak broken?!
Falcons 27 - Saints 28... tense.
Chargers 24 - Buccs 31... over.
Falcons 27 - Saints 31. 49s in the game. Atlanta ball on their 40... TD or nothing...
Matt Ryan airs out the Hail Marys; no dice, Falcons lose.
Next up - those 2 QBs are going to take a pummelling.
Cowboys defence must have taken a holiday on that play
The backs were there, just not trying to make plays.
Eagles defence weak as water
Both teams pour against the run.
I'm back. Internet seems to be holding up. What games are people watching?
Cowboys - Eagles.
Michael Vick just left the game with potential concussion. They have a rookie QB now who has never played in the NFL
The Sky Sports choice for the UK is the Eagles-Cowboys game. 7-7.
Michael Vick has concussion so he is out for the rest of the game
Cheers - I'm watching without sound. He has been running the risk of an injury of some sort with the style that the Eagles play.
When you see the incident it looks like he banged the back of his head on the ground but they are saying that his helmet got forced into his face and that is what caused the problem
Another QB out of a game. Smith of the 49ers out of that game with concussion too
So you're both watching Sky Sports? Fair enough, I'll stick with that, though it's not thrilling me as I don't like the Eagles. Think I'll watch St. Louis and San Fransisco too.
That could be a dud game then...
Was Romo looking a bit limp-y after that last play?
now that's just showing off (but equal parts proper damn awesome).
Hehe, if you're paying for it, you'd better use it! So I do :-)
I can confirm, btw, that the quality of Gamepass streams is infinitely* better than Sky Go.
*Not infinitely. But maybe 5x better.
That is sidepodcast timing.
That would have been awesome timing for a blocked punt - close too.
agreed. i get a 5 min trial every day and it is just stunning. also, gamepass supports airplay, which sky disable always.
nba streaming was added to the apple tv on friday btw. it's where all sports coverage is going.
Eagles fans not at all happy as the team leave the field at half time with the Cowboys 10-7 up
Makes sense. People pay for what they want.
Rams faked a punt from their own goalline.
Got a first down.
That's balls.
Loving some of their trick-plays this season.
That's crazy
Don't worry, they're now 4th & a lot after a gain of four, an incomplete and a big sack.
Half time.
The coach must be thrilled to take a huge risk like that, think he has made it and get nowhere
TD Eagles - Great protection for the rookie QB against the blitz
Great pass under pressure too
Missed it. It's fumbles-r-us in San fran.
Blimey, just seen it. Get that man in every week. Vick would never get that one off.
A Foles win might see the end of the Vick-era...
THe ccommentators said earlier that the head coach said before he took that job that he would only go to a club with a QB he could work with. Apparently that QB at the Eagles was not Vick so this guy may be the starter next season
The free kick field goal Neil Reynold referred to was a 68-yard attempt. It wasn't 49ers, it was Caridnals. It was awful.
I had never heard of that rule before
To be fair, the last successful kick was in 1968. Bet there's a wikipedia page with all the info too.
That was a little before I started watching the game
Oops. It was 1976. Still, there was one in 1968 :-)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_catch_kick
Some times Tony Romo looks like a world beater
The rest of the time, you wonder how he's still the Cowboys' QB.
Exactly
Now he throws a 30 yard TD pass
Bit of a controversial call by the officials
Sky Go quality not quite good enough to tell.
Just seen it on my Gamepass game. Looks good to me in real time.
On 5Live now - not being v clear with that controversy...
78 yard return for TD by the Cowboys. Have to assume it is game over
Looked across just as they reached the endzone.
Nice return for TD
Ah, yes, good initial blocking, only one to beat after that. Nice.
TD 49ers.
Another defensive TD for the Cowboys
I think it will come back though.
Haha, saw the last two seconds of that one too!
Oh, nice pick!
That's team play.
Frank Gore! Touchdown! San Fransisco lead!
touchdown --> fumble --> touchdown :-)
Sounds like the Cowboys - Eagles game
TD Rams. They lead by three.1:09 left. Tough for the 49ers now.
Glad to see the Jets pummelled :-)
And the Giants, come to think of it :-)
At least they only need a field goal
Yes, but hard because no Alex Smith. Pressure situation for backup QB.
Eagles managed a TD then hit the post with the PAT. 8 point game with 1:55 to go.
Don't think I have ever seen anyone mis a PAT kick
Hi guys. Just saw a missed extra point in the Eagles/Cowboys game.
Mind you, he just ran for about a mile on first down...
Yeah. Good hold too. Just flugged on the kick.
I just said that
*fluffed.
I'm coming in late, coach. *out of breath*
I think you were right the first time. He flugged it. I miss the sidepodcast dictionary
10 press ups for being late them
Flugged. Excellent.
Cowboys should win. Akers getting ready in case he's kicking for OT.
Boo Cowboys.
I wonder if we can get Christine to add flugged to the dictionary
http://sidepodcastwikiarchive.wordpress.com/the-sidepodcast-guide-to-life/dictionary/
Oh, yes yes yes yes yes :-)
get on the San Fran games if you can!
I'm thinking of putting the kettle on. You guys want a cuppa?
49ers going for it...
they'll kick for the tie
Cowboys sack the QB who drops the ball in his own end zone. Yet another defensive TD for the Cowboys
tied at Candlestick, and a TD for the Cowboys!
greaaat. :(
Vick will be fine for a while yet...
Are the Eagles crap this year? I haven't been following.
Never mind, announcer just covered that. Answer: yes, they are crap.
and Giants - the last 4 were losses? yikes.
I knew a Cowboys win would make you happy
OT :-)
567406
Rams win the toss.
Obviously, they choose to receive.
The commentators have spent the last hour discussing when the coach will be sacked and where he may go next. Generally that is not good
Pro tip: never copy passwords to your clipboard.
haha
Time to change that one.
ooh good. We now get the SF/STL game.
Sam Bradford just did a Tim Tebow. First play of OT, and they take it to the 3.
Oooooooh. Wally penalty!
That's a great tip. maybe you should tweet it with the password as an example
Don't worry, it was a one-time activation code. Useless now :-)
That was a killer penalty. If the Rams lose, Amendola is in for it.
Oh, wait, it wasn't Amendola. It was on the other side.
Rams punt. Therefore, by rule, next score wins.
They're talking to the ref on the air? So helpful! Imagine if we could hear from the stewards during a race.
Not "the ref", an analyst. But he may be a qualified ref. Not sure.
He's speaking like an official, for sure. Will look him up.
and I mean a ref, not THE ref. I see I'm not allowed to be tired on here tonight...
I can't find Lou Pereira. In any case, that clarified everything.
He's VP of officiating.
49ers should win now :-)
They are now rather making a hash of things.
No good!
Wait, Gamepass is still on 3rd down!
Using my powers in intuition... he's gonna miss.
oops. Sorry. :( I'll let you guys take the lead in commenting.
I was right! He missed!
You're amazing! :)
He's missed a lot over that distance recently.
Genius predictioning
Well, both teams have flugged it once in OT so far.
They said 6? that's too many, I think.
Flugging ftw...or loss, I guess.
Last tie in an NFl game was November 16, 2008.
Is your middle name data? :)
In fact, the last five tied NFl games were all in November :-)
:)
Come on, that's a great stat, right? :-)
It's a great stat. As I have no brain for stats at all, I welcome it.
interesting read on espn about tablets replacing playbooks in nfl teams - http://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/tech/post/_/id/2808/nfl-teams-prefer-ipads-over-playbooks
i shall be quoting it tomorrow :)
That is a great stat. Wonder what the odds on 6 in a row are
Right now, evens probably :-)
Penalty...waiting to 'Submit this Comment'....
What a game!
*hovers over Submit Comment button again*
THEY'VE FLUGGED IT AGAIN!
So much flugging!!!!
:D
that really is a great word.
Gamepass crashed Aargh!
Back now.
Again? So much fluggage
Much fluggery.
Each team having big plays, then..flugging it - I can't stop saying it!
Wow, another tie in November.
My Gamepass went HAYWIRE
Everything crashed, then it wouldn't load, then it did, then it logged me out because it thought I was loggen in somewhere else, then I signed in on my ipad, then the sound was six seconds ahead of video... gamepass flugged it in the two minute drill.
ok, I'm off to watch some other stuff and get ready for tomorrow. Good to share a little bit of the games with you guys.
But wow, what a game! Glad I watched the second half and OT!
haha!
And with that, I bid you good night.
Good night
Texans - Bears, anyone?
i'm here, but i'm blogging too. let's see how this multitasking goes :)
OK, well I'll be here for a while. Maybe first quarter.
sounds good. i have the analysis on but muted. what time is kick off?
Although my electronics seem to develop a strange aversion to SPC sometimes! Phone is being stroppy.
kill them all :)
Probably in the next 10 minutes. Or, now. And it's fumbled. Will be reviewed and this will be overturned.
this week i can finally rewind live telly, so if there's something i don't understand, i could in theory go back and figure it out... maybe.
blimey, raining hard.
I just got a message "sorry. An error occured" when i tried to post that the first time. On WP7. Never had that before. Message was inside the comment box, red background.
v.odd. that's a server error rather than a windows thing. wonder what happened.
bears still have paper playbooks :)
I was reading about that earlier
Switched to iPod. Had to wait for it to charge. Slow, but maybe more forgiving of live comments...
Bit of a weird start. Looks like it'll be a good game.
Thatll be Texans ball.
dedication :)
you may be ahead? gone to analysis here. what happened?
Bears chokes it up. 4th and inches, got the first down, coughed up the football when he was hit. You probably just missed it.
I'm watching on TV Catchup on iPad, so doubt I'm ahead
got ya! is this game not on the app?
I'll check at the next timeout. Not sure what the deal is on free to air games.
cheers.
that was a run!!
Wow. Turnover trades tonight.
It's not on blackout, so can watch in app. It is 30 secs behind though
But MUCH better quality
:)
out of interest. when c4 goes to analysis, the app shows US ads?
Sometimes. Other times, it says "back after the ads". May depend on game/network, as some coverage is regional rather than national.
cool, ta.
LOL. Another one.
Oh, wow. Just discovers the says section in app. Video continues play by play expands too. Amazing!
*stats section
AGAIN
Was there a whistle? TD?
sold! if i had any time to enjoy it, i'd sign up.
Lunch? Tea break? The great thing is, even in 20 minute bursts, you can get great value from it.
oooh, non-live? for some reason, catch games haven't really appealed to me. mostly i still reply on comments to understand what's going on. need more knowledge to fly solo.
what i really what is a free weekend to get into watching the live stuff. we're just manic at the moment.
oooooooofff
Yeah, we'll if you do, I'm happy to explain :-) or we could sync a catchup ame :-£
also an interesting plan. should have more time after the f1 season.
points on the board at last.
You're defo ahead now :-)
ahhh, i paused a bit so as not ruin it. i'll add 60s :)
It's no problem :-)
Windows Phone 8 ad on NBC :-)
i must try it out. flat out of disk space for an installation and boot camp drivers are a bit old atm.
Oh, Windows 8 on the desktop? I hated it.
misread your comment. that bad??
Not intuitive at all. Desktop/app dichotomy is just plain weird. Doesn't make sense. Doesn't really work without a touchscreen.
shame :( wp8 better though?
They need to completely eliminate the desktop to make it work properly.
Well I think WP7 is pretty good. 8 looks better, Limoa 920 seems a great phone. Full intend to get one.
perfectly timed!
That's a Td. No question
fantastic play. loved that.
Hmm. I thought that was fine.
commentators seemed confident too
That's a horrible hit on Cutler. He'll get a big fine for that
If this challenge wins, 15 yard penalty becomes halthe distance to the goal, so 1st an goal on the 2 1/2
Picked off
That was just really good defence
going nowhere :)
for te interception, but yes, for that too :-)
aha
half time. i may have to call it a night soon chappie.
I'm goig now. Work at 9.
night sir!
See ya
Damn - seems I missed the best of the games. I might try to see if this week's Monday night game is better than last week's.
You're only allowed hard copies on the side lines - I think it's restricted to 1x double-sided ~A3, and of course you can have a whiteboard.
bbc red button nfl, now with a presenting team.
...looks a bit like wayne's world.
Morning. And finally the BBC have put together a presenting team :D
i hope they outsourced it. have you seen those yellow graphics?
That is the BBC-Sport yellow, and I do recognise the bloke on the left's voice... from other BBC stuff maybe - time to Google.
nice start :)
more rain.
Ok. Here we go. I can already see details of the the 3nd play on Game Center.
oooh damn. i won't have that open today then.
I'll be closing it about now.
Trying to save the Touchback, not such luck this time.
okay, how are those graphics predicting what the commentators are about to say?
Erm dunno - perhaps they are putting them up themselves, or at least someone in the production is.
I know they 'draw' on some of the replays...
Here's a good explanation of MNF things: http://www.606v2.com/t35830-regarding-the-bbc-monday-night-football-coverage.
ooh ta
so who pulled out, sky?
Can't be Sky... they have 2x on Sunday... Have 5 been in the mix before? (Can't remember)
Wow - Chiefs lead!! 1st time this season!
great start :)
ahh. maybe.
Rocky on the right has a pad of paper. #analogueiPad
hehe.
reading on - ESPN UK
Ooo ok, so not free. (Not read any further yet)
Not seen KC play this well so far this season.
they only do well when it's wet. the eddie jordan of nfl :)
Looks like they've done their homework, and it's worked so far.
TeeHee - I do like to see punts that go out of bounds <15. #CoffinCorner
who are ya rooting for btw?
Steelers
cool. then i shall back the others :)
I'm trusting Big Ben to come through :)
i'm liking the guy with the black visor. no idea how he can see anything, but he must have a rubbish poker face :)
oooops.
Steelers not looking too smart so far
that flew by.
Lots of runs keeps the clock going.
Another Fumble
Steelers clicking on this drive.
starks is a big lad!
bah.
ooooooooooogh!
Soo close to either...
ben free to run where the heck he likes.
Either the KC pass-rush isn't much or his OLine is dominating
heheh! wayne's world reference on the beeb coverage. at least they're not denying it's a bit cheap.
can't help but feel that @mnfuk is an unfortunate twitter handle...
Muffed the kickoff twice.
...I'd not spotted that, ooo-err.
it may be intentional. you probably get a certain type of crowd this time of night :)
That was my first thought ^^
They're doing highlights at HT?! I needn't've watched them all earlier.
From that list, Norv Turner is as good as gone.
missed it while tweeting. he's the one they called 'stale'?
Don't think so. He's having *another* tough season in San Diego - almost exploded in a PC after their Sunday loss.
ooooh, clip?
TeeHee Big Ben
that was awesome.
No need to find it anymore...
WEIRD!!
love that guy. daft flippin' question.
You could hear the emotion :'( *wobbley lip*
I've heard it where he goes off at another point.
Woah - nice play - will be looked at again.
was that legit? one-handed?
Knees saved it touching the ground.
saved by the knees!!
what a great game.
Had control with shoulder on the floor while in bounds, I'd suggest TD call stands
they guy with the paper ipad has a real ipad too. maybe no-one told him.
it's in!
All scoring plays are reviewed by the officials anyway
Lol - the production have printed some tweets for him to read.
cute!
dot-matrix?
Handwritten? Quill and ink?
:)
i hope they're doing the rest of the monday games this season. totes worth staying up for.
that was messy.
Sounds like this is the format that will be replicated week after week :) No more starry spangley backgrounds.
They'll take HT there.
http://twitpic.com/bcqic8
just mega.
We went out for dinner and had pizzas earlier, but I still want more.
Haha the Buccs name is too long
there's no way that's bbc sport yellow. someone's knocked that up while having a pizza about ten mins before going on air.
It looked close though.
yeah. it didn't have the high-gloss reflective shine you get from the beeb.
That is what's missing (apart from the actual layout of the thing).
i feel bad for not having any sensible questions to throw at the twitter account.
They're using the NFL-Network highlight reels - probably just muted it.
deja-vu?
Nope - that'd be if I was thinking I'd seen it when I hadn't. This is remembering ;)
Lots of good games this weekend.
oh yeah. i might be tired.
Looks like Steelers and Colts are the likely wildcards in the AFC.
Widecard race is wide open in the NFC.
Should've been picked off.
Big Ben with a dead arm?
that'll mix it up a bit.
I dunno the provenance of the Steelers' #2.
Nice scramble from Cassel.
is this stream better quality for you?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/american-football/19506388
Is better than some 'streams', but RedButton is looking very crisp for me.
interesting. wondered if it was in HD.
can't tell as our bandwidth is swamped by 'freinds' downloading.
Cheeky taunting on the end of that TD.
Doesn't feel HD - feels compressed.
ahh. shame.
Some info: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7859885/pittsburgh-steelers-re-sign-veteran-backup-qb-byron-leftwich
ta
wha??
oh dear.
Ooops.
Wasn't like there was really any wind...
No 3rd QB...
easy
Will be reviewed...
Looked incomplete = TD.
bah
^^Should be no TD
no celebrations allowed?
Not taunting ones I don't think...
ahh
They just said it - can't have your team mates join in.
seems a bit rubbish. bit like no donuts after a race.
In College Football if you even show any sign of celebration before you cross the Goal-Line the play gets pulled back.
KC recover that surely
Elbow down - safe.
that worked well.
They've had enough time to draw a play that works. Now they have to draw another that will work for him.
was that your twitter question?
Boom! That would be me with the mention then!
it was! "will davies said..."
:D
worth staying up for :)
No doubt about that. Might have to iPlayer it and chop that clip out for posterity.
do it. i can save it, but have no way of getting out of the stupid box afterwards :(
Out of the box?
Looks like the Chiefs have been told to give Leftwich a tough time.
youview box. it records everything as you watch.
It was. It woke me up haha. So hoping KC can pull out a win!
I see - that box :)
hullo chap. fancy seeing you at 4am :)
super handy when i totally miss someone name check you live on national tv.
TeeHee - not sure I've had one on live TV before.
so much time there
Yes yes I always go into watching them thinking ill watch the start and end up watching to the end. Oh well, I can sleep in my lecture tomorrow :)
that's what lectures are for, right?
meant to stop at half-time. whoops.
It's that studio!
totally hooked.
People talking sense about NFL totally does that to me - I have >5 NFL podcasts
ben has left the stadium?
Gone for X-rays I think.
ahha
I've been on BBC f1 text but nothing like live tv haha. Anyone think Cassel can actually pull this off? Yep got about 5 podcasts too. I love how we get more in game analysis than America as whenever they go to the studio, they're watching ads.
true enough. at least this week. i didn't learn much from the beeb's previous coverage :)
Check out this play: 1) For the brilliance of it; 2) the celebration meaning the play gets canned: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPdNZZ0et_A
I also love that there was a team called the Buffalo Bison! Reminded me of that childhood joke
True but sky do and surprisingly there are barely any ads on C4 too
that's crazy.
I love how we're on here, yet carrying on a convo on Twitter as well.
Woooo-oh Tebow.
is it insane that i'm reading both?
No no - I mean that we're actively resricting ourselves to 140 characters, rather than saying the same here with unlimited space.
Steelers need points on this drive, as well as running down the clock.
ahh, you've started so you'll finish :)
Yup - would feel weird to migrate the little convo, so will just finish it there for completeness :)
Ouch
WHAT. A. HIT!!!
2 timeouts back-to-back. Waste.
Chiefs now have no timeouts left if they ever get the ball back.
odd strategy
4th and inches...
They did need to use them to stop Pittsburgh running even more time off the clock - now they'll have to use the hurry-up offence, and spike the ball / make sure they go out of bounds.
Stop me if I'm saying obvious stuff
the opposite. not sure what spiking the ball is.
When the QB uses a play to throw the ball straight into the turf to stock the clock.
The other similar play you will see is when the QB takes a knee - using a play to kneel - this keeps the clock running.
oooooh. ta.
*stop
There's the spike.
2secs on the clock. wow.
PIt with no timeouts to ice the kicker
overtime!
i'm gonna die!
It was destined to take even longer. TeeHee.
how much red bull do you reckon those presenters have necked? several litres?
Did you not see the can they were sat next to earlier?
oh.
well that explains everything :)
INT!!!
sodding eck
Steeler need a FG
Well... Twitter has already shown me the final score.
ahh bugger.
didn't realise it was 'golden goal'. phew.
It's got a few more details than just that, but I'll save that for some other time.
heh. thanks for the thread. think i'll skip the c4 game next week and focus efforts on MNF :)
C4 is that Chargers game I think - I should be awake for that one.
you can't miss wayne's world nfl coverage tho
I'm sure I can cobble together both nights
me neither :)
i shall bid you a goodnight now however.
Yup. Night. :)
Chargers game isn't the latest next Sunday, but might be the middle one :) Makes things easier (on my sleep cycles).
Nope it's ravens in Steeltown. Buckle up your chinstraps, were gonna take a big step to retaining our AFC title. Have to say other than Sunday and Monday night games, it's not a great week of fixtures. Although probably good news seeing as the US GP is on during the early games-bet you lot had all forgotten about that.
Nope - that's already my first line for next week ;)
yep!
and presumably the week after too.
