This season’s Wembley-Game has arrived, and it promises to be a corker! The New England Patriots are being hosted by the St Louis Rams (1800 – Sky Sports). Ok, so St Louis isn’t hosting the match in its truest sense, but they are the ‘home team’. The Rams are coming off a tough game against the Packers – their defence took a pounding, and the challenge this week will be similar. The Patriots have had by their standards a bumpy start to the season – on the way to being 4-&-3 they dipped below .500 for the first time in a regular season since 2002. London games always have a great atmosphere – ohh, and next year there are 2! Also this weekend: Giants @ Cowboys (2115 – Sky Sports), Saints @ Broncos (0120 Mon am – C4), and 49ers @ Cardinals (0130 Tues am – BBC).
NFL Week 8

Wait what?! Clock-change means the KO is now, rather than later.
Our rep in the crowd - @Noelinho: At Wembley, go #Patriots! http://sdrv.ms/VUHM3C
I feel like watching despite having NO knowledge of amerrican football at all
Please do, as I put the wrong time up the crowd might be thin for the first bit :S
The referee has a stadium mic on him? woah
They always explain their decisions - is v cool.
That looks ucomfortable
Wow!!
Boom - what a first possession
What an amazing throw
Brilliant route - double move :)
Pesky BST!
I know what a touchdown is - yessssssss!
!!!
"This defence has not had a takeaway in the last 2 weeks"
To me that just sounds like they need a curry
Will tonight be the Tom Brady show...? We shall see :)
I have heard of him.
yellow flag!
A takeaway is an interception or a forced fumble.
bah! unavailable on the ipad because of sky coverage.
almost convinced christine to watch too :(
*chants* stream stream stream
touchdown!
oh wait no
... not every catch is worth 6 pts ;)
we can't share that on the telly though. the app does airplay.
I am getting quite confused, i wasn't kidding when i said my knowledge is complete zero!
Do you want me to try to explain it (first read that NFL post that Kai wrote I think)
Big shame :(
I do, I want to see this one. I'd even restart my Sky subscription, but it's so tiny!
touchdooooown
I just preempted it really
Sky app subscription.
i shall read kais post!
Woohoo - looks like it's going to be an offensive game :D
I'm trying to see if I can see the ball on Sky Go, otherwise I'll watch highlights on BBC1 later (11.45pm).
The drive-chart to follow: http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2012102804/2012/REG8/[email protected]#menu=drivechart&tab=track
There are so many breaks in american football
They only actually play for 15 minutes out of the 60 that the clock runs for.
it's a sport you need to multitask along with :)
Or the perfect sport to 'watch' while multitasking.
or that :)
Going for it on 4th - bold.
live text from the guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/oct/28/st-louis-rams-new-england-patriots-london-live

Christine might have a nightmare imagining what they are describing.

Hey Pat
Hi.
I have to relearn this sport every year. I haven't seen a game since the Superbowl.
Ohh there was a challenge, I was getting pizzas out :)
That was a quick one.
Pats looking hot
Evening all. Just sitting down to eat and watch. If there are misspelled comments you will know why
more pizza and chocolate cake?
Roast chicken.. No mint saucwe
mmmmmm!
I'm getting sausage sandwiches
Sam Bradford on the ground - looks painful.
had to change christine's headlight. what did i miss?
need!
...Going outside?!
no more than 10m from the door. like a le mans racer, i'm still in the race :)
That didn't go well
Not sure that was supposed to be a fake :
It wasn't. No-one acted as a receiver
:D
heeh
I'm not completely sure. My 5Live and Sky Go feeds are nowhere near matched..
All I know is the Patriots are leading by a lot.
Try

:) the Dan Marino play
Snapcount is a thing? I've only heard it in The Sum Of All Fears.
Yup - those Americans love using their sporting terms everywhere
I don't know how to read that..
Shows the plays / attempts at plays and so progression down the field. There's also a mini desc of every play :)
It is all the information/disinformation the quarterback says before they snap the ball. In sidepodcast terms 32 56 badgers mascarra hike is how you do a snapcount
http://sidepodcast.com/post/32-56-badgers-mascara-hike
I see lots of bars and some of them are yellow.
Top centre gives you the score which is what you were not sure of. All the other stuff you will figure out
The silver bars are Pat plays, blue are Rams, yellow is penalties etc...
5live seem ahead of the gamecenter. amazingly.
Game Center is always way behind TV
Somebody has to type/program the GameCentre - another sporty job for Christine
Ah no I can see the score on my Sky feed, albeit it is a minute or so behind.
I was having trouble listening and decoding 5Live and then trying to match it with what then happened on Sky. I also can't read plays so I just get excited when someone scores. :)
It is showing each play graphically. Patriots in grey and Rams in blue. Penalties etc are yellow. You can click on any bar to get all the info anyone could ever want about each play
If any of you are old enough to remember Apollo you have the chance to re-live part of your youth when the Spacex Dragon splashes down in 40ish minutes. If you are too young to remember Apollo I don't want to know.
Is there a link for the world to watch along with?
I would guess
http://www.spacex.com/webcast/
or
nasa.gov/ntv
or
http://www.spaceflightnow.com/falcon9/004/status.html
Another score, NE heading towards 50!
So there are two London games next season? That's a big commitment.
They're testing the waters, possibly with the view to think about putting a franchise over here.
Can we not call them the Monarchs though?
How will they fit another team in, will a US team have to make space?
They'll just move one of them from a 'poor' market - like they are doing at the moment with LA.
US sports have a habit of just adding a few extra teams and squeezing them in. The NFL are always looking to add some in
I find it a bit weird that they're looking for a UK team instead of a Mexican or Canadian one.
They added two new teams Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars in the 90s. Then added the Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns. All without losing a team. Carolina and Jacksonville had never had teams. The Cleveland Browns had been a reasonable team but moved to Baltimore to become the Ravens because Baltimore gave them a better stadium deal. The Browns fans got so upset that Cleveland jumped through so many hoops the NFL gave them a brand new franchise called the Browns.
Houston had the Houston Oilers that moved to Tenessee as the Titans. Houston then got a new franchise the Texans which is odd because the orignal name of the Dallas Cowboys was the Texans.
UK/Europe is a big market that is currently untapped
I would have thought they would have gone to Germany because they supported a few teams in NFL Europe
Nice moves - 40 yarder
Right now LA are trying to line themselves up a team, and there are various franchises who are 'in the running' to go back - although they all seem reluctant to shun their current locations in case things fall through and they lose all fans (etc). the Raiders, Chargers and the Rams are all names that are banded about, and have all played in LA at one point in their histories - Rams for the longest and most recent - and are the pundit's favourites atm.
If they move one rather than making new maybe it'll be the Jaguars. I was reading this and they've signed up to play a game in London for the next 4 years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_International_Series
All this moving about isn't all that fair on the fans.. Can't imagine it working here, remember the uproar over MK Dons.
They would be the favs in my books for a move like this, I don't think their market is huge, what with Florida having the Dolphins and the Buccs.
Doesn't look like we are going to get video of the splashdown. Such a disappointment.
The Rams' move upset their LA fans back in 94, and some refuse to acknowledge them as a Rams team, referring to them as the St. Louis Football Club.
When the Jaguars came into existence the Bucs were a nonentity. Had never looked like doing anything. Now they are a real team
Missed a trick there I'd say
Rams have moved all over the place. Started in Cleveland, moved to LA then St Louis
Worse than NASA TV
From the Spacex website
Splashdown!
Dragon safely splashed down in Pacific at 12:22PM PT. Now being recovered by SpaceX dive team
Too right. Which team has moved the most?
Just noticed NASA TV are showing the ISS aquarium I mentioned in a sidepodspace post
Third quarter over. Rams are going to have to do something special in the 4th to save this
Looks like 3 teams have 2 moves - Rams,
Cardinals: Chicago - St Louis - Arizona,
Raiders: Oakland - LA - Oakland.
It would be interesting to go through all the major US sports and find out how many teams still play in the same area they started in and still have the same name. I am guessing not many
Hi guys. Sorry you got a blowout game for the UK crowd.
#blamesky
;)
Makes no difference to me. I am watching this game on the same TV I will watch US games later
Just means we don't get a show down as the clock runs out. I'd suggest that a lot of smooth scoring plays from the Pats is good for most.
It's always a problem when they send one of the top teams to cash in on their popularity
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relocation_of_professional_sports_teams
oh, good point. I hadn't considered that point of view. Good ,then . :)
After watching the Chargers bottle the last few week's games, it's nice to have a cruse to the finish :P
I think I saw a tweet earlier that Noelinho is at the game.
Yup - I linked a pic of his at the top
Of all the teams it seems New England have long had the most fans here, so I don't think those in the stadium are complaining. :)
He was trying to unload two tickets on twitter last night
I would have thought the Dolphins and the 49ers had the most long term fans as they were successful when the sport was first shown here
The Pats have done well recently, play nice ball, and wear nice unis.
I knew the Yankees had been called the Highlanders but I had no idea that they were the original Baltimore Orioles
oh, I'm sorry Will. :( I've been in superstorm prep.
http://imissthecomments.wordpress.com/2012/10/27/here-we-go-again/
Another TD. Bothe WRs wide open
Not to worry - I was just saying it's up ther in case you wanted to see it again etc - rather than relinking. I've been watching your tweets, mainly for the lack of water.
Have the Rams CBs given up?
Looks like it. You woul think in the red zone it would be hard for at least one CB or safety not to be next to one of the receivers
Exactly, and it's not like there was a field in which the receivers could pull double moves and leave them standing.
Brady's had enough.
He has done his job
Doesn't want an pointless injury - good decision
Game over. 45-7
:) Enjoyed that. Bring on the SuperBowl so we can all actually watch.
It's enjoyable to have on and I realised I did miss it, it's a bit like NASCAR in that regard. I like it from time to time but I couldn't watch every week.
That would mean the season was going to end already
There is that, yes, don't want that.
Looks like we could be in for a second blow out. Giants 16 - Cowboys 0 a minute into the second quarter
This game has gone very weird. Was Giants 23 Cowboys 0. Now Giants 23 Cowboys 24.
Weird
You obv weren't watching the Chargers-Broncos game the other week, where San Diego let a HT 24-0 lead disappear, and Peyton Manning won it 35-24!!
I hate missing Peyton when he does that
His first half was poor, his 2nd was majestic (with some poor plays from the Chargers to go along with it).
Looks like the Cowboys have blown this game after the comeback. Giants scored a field goal to go 2 points up. Cowboys had the ball and plenty time to score but someone decided to hold the ball with one hand away from his body and run into one of his own linemen. Result Giants get the ball and kick another field goal.
Can the Cowboys score a touchdown to steal the game again in 3 and a half minutes?
Sounds like Romo is starting to get the final drive clicking. #5Live
4th and one
Who goes for a pass on 4th and one?
Interception after Romo was forced to drop back about 15 yards
Int, ... Flag...
I don't think that is a TD.
The hand is out of bounds.
If they don't get it they have 6 seconds to score
Incomplete
3rd down and 5 from 37 yard line with 6 seconds to go
Sounded *soo* close
It was. His fingers were out of bounds but the palm was in. Fingers touched first
4th and goal from 28 yards. Win or bust
Through the hands of Miles Austin
Somehow got my downs wrong. Now 4th and goal from the 28
1s
Romo overthrew it under pressure. Giants win. Fascinating game
Romo is still a shade or 2 below elite - so nearly came through in the clutch.
