After what was an incredible and exciting Saturday, it's time for another day of medal possibilities. Coming up today, there is athletics action, particularly the marathon. We have the Men's Omnium in the velodrome, as well as some springboard action at the Acquatic Centre. Other finals include the fencing, individual events at the gymnastics, sailing, shooting, weightlifting, Greco-Roman wrestling, and there are tons of tennis medals up for grabs too!
London 2012, Day 9
Published by Christine Blachford on
Go Lee Chong Wei!!! #badminton GO Murray!! Go Robson!! that is all.... dont think i've forgotten anyone...
Looks like Georgie from Sky F1 is going to be at Centre Court today, good luck Amy in not trying to kill her! :)
The women's marathon just started. One athlete not getting further than a few hundred metres before being carried off by army chaps. An injury of some kind. Bit rainy out there but the crowds are still cheering everyone on.
It's a lapped course too, so great for the crowds lining up alongside.
Freya Murray got called up on Thursday because of Paula dropping out. Not long to prepare!
Great shot as they round a 180 degree in front of Big Ben.
I missed most of the marathon! Only been watching since the Mall on this lap. This seems at twisty turny course.
hello happy gbers, feeling like tonight is the night for some aussie gold, look out the chinese.....
credit to jess trengove, only ever ran one marathon before and qualified for the olympics, now sitting about 50th, no chance of winning or medaling but still not a bad effort in her second ever marathon to be running in the olympics against some of the great long distance runners.
2km to go. That Ukrainian is making up a load of time, won't catch them though.
Gelana from Ethipoa wins, then runs back along the Mall with the flag :)
you're going the wrong way!
Gutted - Star sailors miss out on Gold.
39th for fellow adelaidian trengove, 2:31:07, not bad in her second ever marathon.
Top Brit about a minute behind in 44th, ok considering the last minute call-up.
All went wrong in the final 300m; they ended up losing by 2pts = ~1 place.
williams sisters win gold.
Should add that my weekend of neglecting the Olympics is almost over, and I can get back to concentrating on multiple sports.
Were they the best bet for a gold medal in the entire Olympic games?
yeah probably, that and serena to win the singles.
Ben Ainslie's medal-race is starting - he has to beat the Dane, but not come too far behind the Dutch. This should be a great show of boat control.
Afternoon all!
Looking forward to Murray's matches this afternoon. Ben ainslie is on for a gold too perhaps in the sailing
I'm so nervous. come on muzza!!
Is he playing singles or doubles first?
singles then into his doubles. awful scheduling. guy needs a rest!
he's going to be knackered!
Although two guaranteed silvers at least should be worth it, hopefully more :)
so, quick team GB question... do we have anyone who has won 2 golds this year?
come on roger
sorry to the british fans but murray is impossible to like, such a drama queen, great player but a massive show pony, which is rather annoying to watch.
roger is all class so i hope he wins.
ill be happy if murray wins the doubles with 'aussie' laura though.
dont think so yet, but pendleton might win a second in the cycling tonight i think
Don't think so.. was thinking maybe sir chris hoy but that was only the relay. May be missing someone but i can't think of anyone whos' won double this year so far
so muzza is in with a chance of being our first then... IF he does it.
exciting! :)
i can deal with 2 silvers tho, happily :)
exactly, no shame in that at all as that alone is an amazing achievement. would just be a brilliant bonus to be able to say andy murray is an olympic gold medalist
would give him the confidence to believe he could win a slam too i think.
"Well you beat him on this court"
"he was only 11 years old"
"Got him at the right time"
Hehehe.
Chance for murray to break here...
Right, back in front of a proper TV with sound and everything. What's on, peeps?
murray gold medal matches!! :D
Hi christine
Murray was about to break Roger but Roger did a pretty convincing way of saying no with an ace.
Ah ha! That sounds about right :)
Sailing commentator said Ainslie won gold. All I could see was a load of boats moving around.
Woohoo!
I've tried watching the sailing at least three times and it really doesn't come across at all well on TV.
I was disappointed to find a lack of cannons and crows nests
Must be even more confusing watching from shore. Nearly went down there too (oddly it looks sunnier there)
"And it's gold for Barbossa!"
Murray is smiling despite unforced errors. Not hitting himself is a good thing.
i like this new murray, smiley more than frustrated :)
Just about to say he looks comfortable then tim henman says it on tv, clearly stealing my lines.
YES!!
Murray breaks him :D
If i could hug murray i would. perfect :)
Ben Ainslie = GOLD :) (Shame I missed the most of the race)
It comes across reasonably well if you already understand it, but it is not a sport you can causally watch and try to learn it.
Set point...
Oh my word, what a start. :o
YES!!!!! YEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
Probably true. The commentators didn't seem to know what was going on either... or if they did, they found it hard to explain!
The main guy is a very experienced commentator, and the other is an ex-olympic sailor (his class isn't in the Games this time). They've done a reasonable job of explaining everything, but they would always be fighting a losing battle with the amount stuff there is that could have to be explained.
At the end of the day, all that matters is that we're +1 G!
I wish Andy Castle would stop jinxing Murray! Long way to go yet!
I know he was a tennis player in himself but he will forever be the man off GMTV to me
Ohhh this is kind of brilliant though.
This.is.crazy. To quote the killers.. Andy you are a star
this is perfection! keep it up!!
:D
It feels like this must be the home advantage, crowd helping muzza but annoying Fed.
come on Muzza.... hold...
Wouldn't it be somewhat gutting for Andy to win at Wimbledon, but not actually in Wimbledon. Although getting the GOLD would be some kind of achievement esp in such a special place for him & the country.
there was a lot of implicit or assumed knowledge in their commentary. i'd follow/enjoy a lot more sports in this competition if there was a second commentary team for casual observers.
I don't think he'd be gutted. if anything I tink lou hit the nail on the head that it'll only drive him further to get that grand slam in the future
i did like the piece on the sailing the other night that explained how ben used an aero advantage to screw an opponents race, but other than that i can't say i understood anything about sailing this games. same goes for the horses-on-parade thingy.
nooo, it's the perfect next best thing to winning wimbles. if he wins here, it'll prove to him that it's his time to win grand slams. it may not happen this year, but next year coming into wimbledon.. or any of the future slams i think it'll help his confidence. He'll push his game even further and who knows.
Just like JB with Hungary 2006, getting the monkey off your back with the first high profile win (grandslam or not) will help him want more. and work harder.
I think they did their best job to cater for all tastes, otherwise each race would turn into a lecture if the had to explain all the minutia. It is a really interesting sport because of all the science that goes into it, but there are far too many rules, tactics, and methods for casual viewing. #Shame
come on Murray, hold your serve, don't give Federer the chance to come back...
hence the need for two options. bbc have the capacity to do it technically, but i doubt there's enough people available to double up on all the events :(
oof!
I know this has been discussed before, but Isles of Wonder: Buy?
already bought. love it. great remixes, perfect if you like underworld (half the album is them).
you give fed an inch and he takes a mile, he's just so awesome. i (heart) fed. but i (heart) Murray more, and so badly want him to get this :) so no allowing Fed to sense a chance ;)
definitely. £10 for 40 tracks, most of them completely brilliant? you'd be mad not to.
he looks more beatable than the last game (final) i watched him play :)
thing is it's not even my usual genre of musical tastes but their stuff on there is that good
agreed.
ahh well.. we've been stuck on deuce for some time now.. super awesome Fed is waking up! it's scary!
Right up my street (or at least one of my eclectic streets).
he's got to cater for amy as well :)
love that Laura is looking a bit stressed.
Murray. x2 aces. come on.
oh murray, come on, chop chop no time to get tired here.. it's a 5 setter, and you have another gold medal match after this.
i get the feeling you and judy would get on reeallly well as i imagine her sitting there saying the exact same thing :)
hehe! her tweets about food last night made me giggle so much :)
yes! he holds!!!! amazing.
yay!
she is brilliantly funny. and she makes arrested development references every so often which is always good in my book.
Well done andy :)
mum 'how many hours is this going on for?! I think Andy wants me to get even more gray hairs!'
hehe!
45 minutes since federer's won a game!
45mins since Federer won a game!!! amazing stat!
I'm glad you mentioned it too because i thought i misheard it!
You can just tell how badly murray wants this!
deuce again! break him again murray!! :D
Wiggo, Hoy, Jess, now Andy Murray for Sports Personality
amazing to watch.
8 games in a row.
mind = blown.
this is crazy amazing. there are no words
what a selection!
wow!!
Afternoon :-)
Team award = #TeamGB. Has to be!!
I think we should rename wimbledon to the Olympics. They'll never notice, it does good thing.
i haven't watched much tennis in my life, but this is the best ever.
lo squire!
Andy Murray for Sports Personality?
did you see the crying? he's normal this year ;)
Actually, there are plenty of women who I hope to see dominate the short list this year :-)
Apparently it just means the sportsman/woman who has captured the public's imagination the most.
there were a few tears in his eyes when he got through to this match too. He's now as sweet as I always new he was :)
Just worked out that after today, Andy will have eclipsed what Tim has done at any Games.
doing well in the doubles helps his cause too.
Unfortunately, many of the people who nominate these sportsmen/women are idiots. Manchester Evening News nominated Vincent Kompany last year...
he's even stolen his hill
:) :)
I'll be voting for Jessica Ennis first this year, Rebecca Adlington second, probably Wiggins third :-)
I don't think Adlington will make the shortlist.
adlington because?
at the moment, it's between ennis, wiggles and andy for me .
yes! watch how he couches Laura along. actual human i tell you!
ahh Federer wont be bagelled.
As it stands, Wiggo for me - 1st British Tdf winner, & most decorated British Olympian (atm).
Maybe not, but she should. No British swimmer has achieved medals at successive games, let alone two. And her competition this year was much stiffer than Beijing. She was fantastic. And she always smiles!
oh Murray not now. not when you could win the set.
Also I meant to meantion earlier, very impressive stuff from del potro to beat djokovic for bronze!
Delpo has been on fire this tournament, hoping this is a resurgence from him. he's awesome.
Also, would be nice for our female cyclists to get a bit of recognition, and not just Victori Pendleton. One other mention: Katherine Grainger. Won't get on the short list, but she's done us proud for years :-)
*jumps up and down* set point!!
Woohoooooo
YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!! just one more set murray....!!
Erm Wow Andy!!
i knew he could do this one day, i just didn't think that day was today! one more andy!!! :D
aww, that was sweet.
(Lewis Smith's Pommel-Horse Final is starting imminently)
I missed this on tv but did we know that serena's american flag blew away during her single's medal ceremony?
Oh goody that storm we had yesterday it's on it's way to wimbledon apparently...
yep! the commentators mentioned it yesterday when it happened. Serena was laughing about it :)
i saw it get wrapped up, didn't realise it went completely.
Amy confirmed it went flying, and commentators even said it landed by court 1 :D
Hehehe I've just seen a video someone took from centre court of it. The crowd reaction is so... british. :)
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=4e7_1344137075
that other bloke has got the rage :)
It did look windy!
♥
Looks like it stayed in the dtadium in that video
*stadium
commentators said their get some extra adhesives for when the union jack is up there today ;)
ah maybe they were joking, or couldn't see. Think one said 'they'll go and rescue the flag from court 1 and have it ready for later' or something so maybe they didn't see it either!
hehehe it's still brilliant :D
i live commented it yesterday - http://sidepodcast.com/event/london-2012-day-8-summer-olympic-games#comment-3059648
:) love the comments :)
lovely blue sky over wimbledone
even Mr Ewan McGregor is into the olympics - https://twitter.com/mcgregor_ewan/status/232125774000435202
If Murray wins, I wonder if he'll as Federer for the Wimbledon trophy in a trade-off. :D
hehehehe!!
Did it cost more for a tickety into the Wimbledon grounds for the Olympics or the Championshps?
even if the olympics costs more it's probably a million times easier to get there than wimbledon, which sounds like it has a ticketing process created by leonardi da vinci's codex system.
two more break points for andy :)
Of the 4 Grand Slam venures, Roland Garros is more likely to get Olympics tennis before the US National Tennis Center, IMO.
WOO!!
#eeek
ground pass for the olympics was around £20, for Wimbledon champs is usually £20 at most, but gets less and less through the tournament as there are less things going on on to watch.
:) :) :)
starting to well up with pride... <3
Checking out Women's Watrer Polo between HUN and RUS.
watch your internet doesn't get emotional again too!
it's ridiculous. but i still am going to try again this year!
Last minute of regulation w/HUN up 1.
it's crashed about 3 times already. it can't cope with murray doing well!
RUS with a chance to tie...
who can?
definitely made in britain.
'@AmyFulton
I appear to have started cheering for Andy because I really just want this over with. Don't prolong the agony, Rog' :(
YES!!!
ohhhh poor amy. even if roger doesn;t come back she can still say she's seen him in an olympic final!
every point puts a huge smile on my face. i.can.not.believe.this.
she gets to see him win a medal, which is what she said she wanted :)
Max W has just NAILED his Pommel-Horse
this is like when JB leads a race i'm not expecting him to. I LOVE SPORTS! :D
yay! :)
this is a little bit ridiculous.
It's the '11 Canadian GP all over again. :D
!!!!!!!
you're gonna make lou implode saying things like that ;)
I have no words other than i really wish i was there to experience the atmosphere of this.
i've never seen federer be beaten before.
(has anyone?)
HUN wins the QF.
last year. Djokovic was a bit good..
I know it's a bit OT, but what's is about making a paper/cardboard Lotus F1 car?
I beat him on Grand slam Tennis 2
...it was very easy mode.
...
...........i was also controller federer.
NO ONE JINX THIS!
oh yeah! i FEEL like i've never seen federer be beaten before :)
:D
Likewise. I'd hold up a sign that would read "Will volunteer for Olympics tickets" :D
And 2008.
and then. who hasn't beaten federer eh?
Is Murray Walker in the building?
phew, what an awesome game. come on muzza. hold your serve.
Federer not handing the towel in yet. come in andy..
*come on even, this is not a pit stop
the best thing about this match murray has another GOLD MEDAL match afterwards! it's like double murray but better!! :D
1hr 48mins. not a bad time so far.
When is Andy's final #2?
after this.
so we've found what murray needs to take his playing to the next level, a court full of his supporters!
Max W has a medal on the Pommel, 1 more to spin / twirl / go = LEWIS!!
Just caught up on the tennis. Who re-programmed the tennis robot?
:)
One game away...
yess!!! ONE MORE GAME!!!!!!!
The IOC, maybe? :D
slight smile... :)
WOW!! LEWIS SMITH!! ... waiting for the score now ...
Pirelli or something
Roger has barely won anything since 2009. It really annoys me how many people want him to lose at things because he's a winning machine because he's not and hasn't been for a long time
right, this is it.. first chance at the gold. hold you serve muzza.
:( we don't want him to loose this. we want murray to win :(
Next thing you know, Dr. Who will change the setting to 4 weeks ago and maintain the current match status. ;)
* :)
but we watched wimbledon a month ago. he was a machine.
okay, come on murray, keep calm.
... Silver. Tied on score, but lower execution gives him Silver. (+ Max W's Bronze)
Keep Calm and Serve On :D
:)
nice one!
More medals!! :)
don't you dare do this murray... not now. come on.
that's more like it!!
I don't mean you specifically I mean the people who watch one tournament a year and think they're experts or the people I always end up next to at matches
oh my word. this is actually happening.
ah those people annoy me, one of my friends is like that.
2 great routines, but the European + World Champion was just too strong.
GOLD!!!!!!!
HE'S DONE IT!!!
WOWOWOWWOWOWO
Tim Henman: WOOHOOHOO
:') IN STRAIGHT SETS!!!!
Time for more blubbing? P
ahhhhhhh!!!! cuteness!!
Absolutely incmredible. :) :) :)
AWWWWWWWW
MURRAY YOU LEGEND!! ONE MORE TO GO! :D
I'm worried lou may actually explode at some point :)
i thought today couldn't beat yesterday, but flipping heck.
:') :') :')
Aww, bless judy!
MURRAY IS A LEGEND!!
Can't believe they cut away from him hugging his mum.
awwwwww
awwww that kid!!! 'can i have a hug?'
AWWWWW!
at wimbledon and EVERYTHING!!! Murray you amazing person.
gotta be on for a spoty. has to be.
ohhh god, even i have tears. this is not cool runnings!!!
Andy Murray - Olympic gold medalist
he has to! he is so cute! :') :')
AHHHHHHHHHH
Sue: "Andy, are you okay this time?"
♥ ♥
Wow! First mens tennis gold in 104 years :o
first GB medal in tennis since 1908. crazy.
and they were held in london too! it's only appropriate :)
Poor Federer. Another medal for Switzerland though, Mr C.
he won.. at wimbledon... crazy!! :D
He's coped with this all so well, only learnt the other day that a day or two after he lost at the grandslam he returned to centre court on his own to just take it all in and try and move on from it. looks like he dealt with is so so well.
i just want everyone to have one each :)
For some reason German Eurosport weren't to keen on showing Murray. Great win. Also good to see the football team continuing fine traditions last night.
I hope the independent republic of athletes get something!
Spoiled sports... :P---
How unusual would that be to hear the Olympic Hymn at a time other than the Opening or Closing Ceremonies?
A thought occured to me. You think London should have a go at a Youth Olympic Games bid in the near future?
With novak winning the aussie open, rafa winning the french people, federer winning Wimbledon, this can mean only andy can win the us open.
Or quite possibly greg rusedski,
don't listen to McEnroe. he's building hype. although i would like to see muzza in the wtfs tho.
yay for delpo!
Adendum: I believe I remember hearing Glasgow wants to have a shot first.
Hehehe:
@SajChowdhury
Massive roar in Tesco as shoppers watched Andy Murray win. Probably the loudest cheer here since they reduced the price of Tropicana.
haha. where do you watch in tesco?
Marvellous cheer for Fed.
aw the last record Rog wanted :(
Big cheer :)
on the tvs?
urm... that pic i tweeted you yesterday... ;)
Been a long time since he went to a supermarket.
oooh, the home cinema section?
:)
hehe :)
i sent him a photo just 20 hours ago!
Gold!!!
Well, I better get going to work. See you guys later. :)
hehe everyone is standing anyway :)
But will the flag stay on?
awwww i love it when you can hear that EVERYONE is singing along :)
If Andy Murray wins the mixed doubles as well, he alone will have done better than all of Australia so far.
<3 <3 <3
they really haven't had a good olympics..
aw dont hold back those tears muzza
Hold them back, hold them back.
:D
One of my friends has posted on facebook 'I still don't like or care about andy murray'
will never understand why people say that when something awesome happens. surely if you don;t care you wouldn't post it!
He doesn't want to cry in front of Laura.
they should just get him on the court now for the next match, he'll have so much energy :D
someone give Federer a flag, he's the only one without one.
give it a sec, it'll fall down for him in a mo
Just in case anyone was in doubt
http://www.isandymurraystillbritish.com/
so many smiles! :D
That joke dies here.
It won't, but it should do.
That's probably (& unfortunately) more accurate
hoping that people give him more respect now, but there will still be some annoying people.
Roger on the BBC!
Honest from roger, he was a lot better than me today.
he's still happy with silver as he should be :)
Roger is so good at interviews, very well said.
'I have a medal, that's what i wanted in the singles' - cute :)
hehehe magic murray is trending :D
40mins till he plays again.
Mcenroe just totally dumped the BBC
Dunno whether this has been posted (probably has): http://t.co/p04L3oQ2
absolutely, proper role models and people to aspire to
If people want reality TV, let's just have some documentaries on our athletes, their training and competitions please. #Wholesome
yes! perfectly said!
looks like Kate was at the gymnastics today, she'll be thrilled when she finds out Muzza won :)
She was sat with some of the other GB gymnasts and coaches, and saw the Silver + Bronze.
apparently we are off to my aunts to watch the second murray match, i have so much energy i kinda wanna run there. but it's miles, so driving will have to do. eeek! back for the start :)
hehehe, see you in a bit!
Athletics time! This is so the best games day ever. I saw Roger with a medal!!!!
woohooo!!
and the day is not even over yet. #awesome
Hi all
Just tuned into my first Olympics of the day to see Andy Murray had beaten Federer. Unbelievable
Hi Steven
He played amazingly well!
Malaysian sprint cyclist using Schumacher tactics to force Jason Kenny up to the wall.
Typical that this is the match I miss
I have a feeling the winner of women's weightlifting +75 kg will overshadow all other winners so far :) It seems size really matters here :)
here comes andy and laura!
Just as indycar is about to start. Too much sport
Seconded!
I saw similar hate for Michael phelps yesterday. It's history. Enjoy it!
already a break point for laura and andy :)
He will either never win a grand slam or win loads because of this.
It won't matter though. It meas so much for these players to win at the Olympics. Andre Agassi still refers to his as one of his greatest triumphs.
He'll have like 20 plus chances in his career - he'll do it sooner or later (rather sooner). Especially that Djokovic has lost his form and Nadal is struggling with injuries.
Can we exclude footballers from that list of role models too please?
i made it :) phew!!
hurrah!
Look what Lewis Hamilton has achieved yet there are people who still hate him for no reason they can explain. There will always be haters. Possibly the only negative about the internet is that it gives haters a voice
Haters gonna hate. :)
Women's weightlifting is really something. I love how the crowd supports everyone so much, that's the best.
That's reason in itself to support Murray for me ;)
woohoo! great start :)
Only one thing to do with that and similar tweets. Retweet them
wohooooooo!!!
so they've broken the big server - smells like double gold for Andy!
dont jinx it! :)
i dunno what the heck we're watching in the velodrome at the moment, but it gets my vote as "stupidest olympic sport ever". you can't get a medal for riding a bike slower than everyone else, surely?
or if you can... i missed my calling.
I di say something similar to Mrs. Goat last night that it was great that Britain has some decent heroes for a change and that perhaps we shouldn't be looking up to footballers so much anymore.
I said it a day or so ago, I have yet to see any cycling that is just peddle as fast as you can to get to the end. There is no normal cycling races.
Nigerian woman hurt her elbow just now, trying again. Weightlifting.
wait.. what is this sport? is there a sport where you get a medal for falling off a bike quicker than anyone else? i'd ace that!
I still give this title to synchronised swimming.
someone is taking the mickey with lottery money on these. #forsure
What about the one with the three of them where they take turns at the front?
i think they might be medalling for "riding forward farthest, whilst looking backwards".
or something.
It is rather silly. The Keirin is even more stupid.
That believe it or not is sprinting by the sound of it. They crawl round for a few laps then both decide to go like the clappers at the same time.
sue barker in Murray's box :D
Well, your question wasn't "what about the one where they just cycle fast?" so no, not that one :)
wait mr c you're not watching muzza? doubles is great fun to watch!!
that did happen. but i looked down to comment and they'd finished.
Who are the Belorussian players?
So I have Indy on tv, Ustreaming the Mars rover news conference, and online women's weightlifting. #ADD
we may have too :)
we'll take another 3 break points, sure, why not :)
There is the pursuit races. Then there is the time trial
they are seeded as the top in the tournament i think.
:D
The one I described reminds me of plate racing in NASCAR.
You've also got Spider Solitaire open on the computer and you're doing the shopping list too.
Mirnyj - one of the top doubles experts; Azarenka - no 1 in the world in singles :)
:D
While listening to a podcast...
The 'GB, GB, GB' chant was awfully confusing when GB were playing New Zealand. Too much effort to work out if it was 'GB, GB, GB' or 'Kiwi, kiwi, kiwi'
They're chanting Amy? How kind of them.
oh yeah, the shopping! :)
Is there a special IndyCar thread or are we alone?
Were people chanting Kiwi Kiwi kiwi though?
Amy, do crowds in NZ do that? I can't remember hearing it other than in rugby league...
Some were, yup.
Interesting.
What was the race that Chris boardman win in '92? Don't they have that race anymore?
That cycling is a sprint to the line, but the person who is in front pulls the other in their slipstream, so giving the advantage (as I'm sure everyone here knows). So tactics come into play, turning it into chess-on-bikes before the final lunge to the line.
i am brimming with pride and i only support the guy. Judy must be close to exploding!!
did Andy play doubles? he could have had a triple gold here! it's going oh so easily with Laura - 4:0 already!
Imagine if f1 was like that!
and i thought motorsport was the only sport aero ruined.
175kg. From the floor to above your head. On your own. :0
That was the pursuit. They still have those. I saw some team pursuit yesterday
yep! his doubles was rubbish. Jamie wasnt on top of everything, they went out first round
Just imagine if the 100m sprint had that much posturing and gesturing.
I couldn't lift a bag of sugar over my head.
Oh... maybe that actually helped him to fully focus on singles.
:)
Now up to 181kg!
i dont think he could have coped with 3 matches yesterday
I'm always afraid it's gonna squish something in them.
When I used to work in a tv store, the measure of strength was if you could lift and carry a 29" tv around the shop :)
At some point someone must have a huge weight land on their head
We saw that with an Egyptian woman the other day. She lifted it onto her shoulder and then just fell Over!
That's the tie breaker :)
Andy's brutal - he's serving 206 km/h at Azarenka :)
The treat em mean, keep them keen approach to women doesn't sit well with me.
:) he is awesome, and facies another win :)
ah!
Ok, Indy's on, I'll focus on that a bit now. If I can still 'focus' on anything anymore...
Ohhh decisions... tennis.. or rubenscar...
Rubenscar sounds brilliant. They could go to Brazil and see who breaks down last ;)
I sort of assumed no-one would be interested in Indycar this weekend. Looks like we should have asked for a thread if so many people are
Pat and I were contemplating it earlier but in all honesty I can't pull myself away from the Olympics
I think I will concentrate on tennis but flick during the many breaks they have. Tennis is the ideal sport to let you watch another one
Laura serving for the set.
Tennis on tv, cycling on iPad and dinner on the BBQ. Multitasking FTW!
I've got IndyCar on and the cycling. Can't handle two commenting threads plus Twitter on top of them.
Or we could try :)
andy and laura take the first set :D
First set to Murray and Robson
I'm I'm my iPhone so twitter is out!
Laura's serve is actually doing some damage. Nice.
she has obviously learnt from yesterday :)
Incredible how many empty seats there are at the tennis
people will have gone home.. no idea why. most people hate doubles.. which is annoying, cause doubles is awesome!!
It's toooo fast.
it's so tense too! love it! :)
You would think they could go out to the hill and hand out passes
and Indycar with so many ads lends itself to multitasking, too.
Just need to get them to sync better
Watching on Sky means sbs becomes straight ads. :(
Poor Toronto people. They go to all the trouble of scheduling a tournament right after the Olympics and all the top players pull out.
they've been great at trying to give people court tickets when there has been rain etc (giving court 1 people centre upgrades when there is alot of rain)
At least locog have managed to do something right with ticketing though
Andy and Delpo have pulled out, too?
What's with the ball kid race?
andy, don't throw your racket on the floor. silly.
Since the start of the second set things have not been going so well
no andy, come on now, calm down.
belarus break to go 3-1 up
it's okay tho, cause 3rd set is a champions tiebreak which is better to win from.
I have to say all this time later I still hate the London 2012 logo. That is not going to age well.
There is so much merchandise I would have bought if it wasn't so flippin' awful!
but the adidas stuff is soooooo nice!
Incredible power on the return from Murray
Looks like we are heading to the weird third set
champions tiebreak it is!!! they like those :)
What the hell is that? The first to 10 points?
The official kit stuff I fundamentally disagree with. The only London 2012 stuff I've liked is the bands for the arms. All the keyrings and things are cool but have the hideous logo!
They were handing out keyrings at Goodwood. I got one with that logo in bright pink. Can't see me ever using it
Really? It'd suit your eye colour though.
i was looking at the armbands longingly but decided against it. but i do like the white/grey/ blue t-shirts...
ohhh!!! i didn't see those! :(
It was in the area across the bridge from the house where they had marquees with supposedly green technologies
ohh we walked through that and walked out again, it was hot in there.
oh god i forgot about that place after the heat melted my brain
I walked in past it each morning.
Champions tie break time
come on andy... you can do this!!!
and laura of course..
What's a champions tie break?
mini break already. come on andy, save this!
First to 10 wins
tie break to 10. so a bit longer.
Why don't they just play the third set?
third set is a bit longer?.. and mixed isn't so special... i.... Amy?
ohhhhhhkaayyyy team GB. calm, and hold please.
Confusing!
It's weird because I saw a match score earlier and the third set was 10-7. Completely baffled me
my ticket info tried to explain the reasons to me, but i just got confused and accepted it :)
Is the tie break of champions like the wall of champions?
Break back
LAURA!! YES!!
not again laura.. not again.
wooo!
andy! wohoo!
he will save this match :)
Great time to make that shot Andy because Laura was starting to crack
Andy's rather confident there at the net!
she was a bit weak on her serve yesterday. Andy carried her for alot of it.
wohooooooooo!!!
Great play again by Murray
Murray is on another planet just lately, i hope this continues to the slams
I was surprised they didn't scan me out so they could resell my seat. Also amazed how many people left when I did considering how gb the crowd was, maybe they didn't know Andy was playing again.
They can't have all been coming here but I did escort an American father and son all the way from Southfields to the stadium because they hadn't been here before. They were really nice and it was great to have company
Foreigners acting as tour guides. Whatever next
tiebreaks are stressful.
It is raining heavier than I have ever heard outside now.
murray stop bouncing your racquet!
they always try make mixed matches shorter because its normally an afterthought played by people in other draws since its only played at slams. No one would play it if they had to play a full third set
ohhh laura...
Who has any nails left?
laura, i love that you're doing well..but could you just pick up the pace please?
Looks like it has just fizzled out.
Should have made this just a one set match
nicely done by andy :)
hehehe.
YES ANDY!
Huh! Interesting.
another point saved! come on!!!
lucky lucky...
still gotta break them.
He reminds me of petrov.
ahhhh silver for team gb, still very awesome though!
silver is still AMAZING!
I am a proud Muzza fan :)
(I've not seen it yet :S )
NO murray i WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO BE SAD!
Mr Lukashenka will be proud
Shame they couldn't keep the momentum going into the second set but no-one could have expected them to go as far as the final
now they are coping murray.
A bit of a shame that he could not get time to enjoy his singles gold and now has to walk off centre court feeling bad about losing when he had his best result ever earlier
Laura - I am so happy to be in the final
Andy - We came so close and it is annoying to lose.
Slight difference there
Sorry, but I'm getting really sick of the BBC starting interviews with GB athletes who won silver with "you must be disappointed".
i think it'll take him a minute or two to get focused on that again, but i'm sure judy will squash any disappointment out of him. a Gold followed by a Silver 40mins later, that's crazy! A great achievement, specially as he NEVER plays doubles!!
Ben Ainslie won gold again.
All of a sudden GB has a bunch of people with 4 or 5 golds
I am getting fed up when they do it the other way round. Congratulations you won bronze. May as well say congratulations you lost.
Anyone who gets silver should be gutted that they didn't win
I think a Danish guy won the silly mixed bag cycling event?
Its awesome to win any medal in my book. The BBC build up the GB athletes so much that it's a disappointment if they don't win.
I forgot about that. I was going to try to watch more events in that. I need to find an omnium to try and follow at some point where there is no Olympics. Seems like a great idea for an event.
I also want to see another of those 20 guys on track and the last place drops out all the time
woah, sudden f1!
If they are in a race and they come second I can understand it. If they are in a final where the worst they can do is silver then they have to be disappointed to end up with silver
What, where
What? Where?
lewis was just on BBC1 and I heard an f1 car
Fair point, but having lived in smaller countries it looks arrogant when people get disappointed when it's not gold.
For some reason I'm finding fencing so interesting! I've never seen it before.
It can be fascinating. The thing I find odd is how much it has changed since I last saw it. Some people have windows in their masks. Others have LEDs that light up when they score. They are no longer attached to a wire
It was absolute havoc the other night with the south korean lady
It's very high tech. Lots of beeping. So the green light means a touch and a point? What does the red light mean?
Yeah! The weirdest controversy in sports ever!
Based on the one I saw the other day. One fencer is red and one is green
Germany just rolled the US. Beat them bad. One of the Germans went down with a knee injury. :(
what happened?
Blue ribbon Athletics session this evening :) Will Mr Bolt destroy the field and set another WR ... ?
ok, so whatever side lights up with the Tron lights, they are getting the point, then.
We had a Russian guy teach us how to fence as a kid. It's a cool but weird sport!
The clock ran down to 1 second left on the clock, with the score 6-6, and then they added another second when the time ran out for some reason in which the german lady managed to get a point to win 7-6. The Korean lady sat on the fighting thing for an hour afterwards whilst officials talked over it
Will he tie his shoe? Will he quit before the finish line because he's beating everyone so bad?
Either that or they lost. There seemed to be lots of lighting up with no points awarded because they hit wrong areas of the body etc
Wow.
Fighting thing is a piste. just like skiing
oh, ok. I really don't know what the heck is happening, and there are no announcers to tell me.
Actually the last second was repeated a few times as the German fencer made repeated do-or-die attacks that last just a few tenths. The longest second in sports!
I'd love to see him run full out for the whole 100m
Usain bolt is going to run so fast that he will win and make a cup of tea before the others cross the line :)
If Blake is as good as some people say Bolt will have no option but go flat out
Me too. I thought it was pretty arrogant of him to just cruise on in celebrating at the last games. Poor form. But I suppose you need that kind of ego to do what he's doing? I don't know. It just put me off.
I don't think Bolt is gonna win tonight
There are no fat cheques for world records in the Olympics. Much more profitable to be double Olympic champion and set records at other meets
Usain has shot his Bolt?
He has set his records at the biggest events, hasn't he?
Bolt-tled it!
It's a west Indian thing. They are all about ego over there.
Yes but he saved some time by backing off at the Olympics so he could go faster where it was more profitable
I don't think he knew exactly how fast he was going...
Not exactly in the Olympic Spirit is it? What happened to the Badders competitors? ;)
They were trying to lose. He won by a long way and just backed off a little. They could hardly disqualify him for that
I know :) Just trying to be controversial. Shame he was focussed on the money though.
In a way, it's hard to blame him. Remember, these people have very short careers.
I was annoyed usain bolt backed off, just because I want to see the ultimate time.
That is only my interpretation. He is a professional athlete though so he would be crazy not to maximise his earnings
I think with him and Blake in the same race we could see that tonight. And the london track is fast because the sub-suface is diamonds not squares apparently
That's true, and part of building his brand is his performance in all aspects, so it could benefit him to rock the ego pretty hard, plus the cultural tendency to do so anyway.
Chris Hoy just turned up in an ad in Indycar. Very confusing
that, too!
I think it's interesting he's a dominent athlete that people seem to want to do well again... whereas it's so often the case that we want anyone but the dominant player.
I knew the stadium was expensive for a reason.
Christine, are you not horrified by some countries having wonky collars on their athletic vests?
There is so much I am horrified at in these Olympics that I have sort of been numbed :)
That's a good point. I don't like him, but I want to see what he'll do. I guess he won, I lost. :)
I can't wait for that blog post!
I agree with the money things (I'd probably do similar), but that ^^ is my reason - wanting to see how fast is truey possible.
In other news, anyone heard of Phillips Idowu's fitness etc?
Hope China brought this guy to London for the hurdles
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmU6BChuiBs
I understand his mentality so I don't mind him.
Different coloured shoes, different coloured sleeves, asymmetrical clothes, it's all just wonkiness!
Hasn't he gone AWOL?
the collars on the gray jackets for the US are a mess! And who looked at the gray with the fluorescent yellow sneakers and said "oh yes, dahling, NOW we've got it!" #fail
On that note, what's with the sleeves people are wearing with vests that have no gloves or connect at the shoulders?
BTW in support of the smaller nations I am wearing a red and a white armband I got from coke glasses from McDonald's ;)
Oh good point. Hadn't thought about that
It is time the fashion police had a say in the Olympics. We should have known that there would be issues when GB turned up for the openeing ceremony in Ali G jackets
All I'm looking for is 100% effort, and no excuses if he loses.
The Russians have hilarious cardigans/jackets.
To be fair we had the German 70s blue and pink jackets before the Ali GB jackets
Here we go, 100m semi finals starts here
Yay!
I just tuned into the fencing. But can't miss the 100 metres
Apparently Asafa Powell has run more than 80 times under 10s in his career (most ever).
IndyCar race just ended with good timing for the 100m
Why did they put the 2012 logo on all the officials' blazers. Olympic rings are so much more elegant
Love it how if you're from Gambia it's called "The Gambia". As if there's another one???
They used to do that with the Ukrain too
I'm also supporting any athlete from Trinidad tonight :)
Oooooohhh Gatlin is FAST!
Chest bump!
Is quick!!
Yellow guy was flying for the first half of the race then went backwards
It's awesome how much the 100m is an ego sport!
I like that they have names not numbers now
Me too.
There are 3 semi-finals here? So there will be 1 final and a half? :)
Usain time!
I thought Bolt and Blake were in the same semi
he eased off again and STILL did a 9.87!
Bolt cruised from 70 metres
That's more like the Bolt we know!
when is the 100m final? we are watching the womens 3m diving atm
Who builds a 9 lane track and uses lanes 2 to 9?
2150
Awe and them some.
In a couple of hours
People who want the runners nearer the crowd.
I wondered what the deal with that was.
So why not just not build lane 1?
I hear Muse!!!
ARI!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure they were using it for the 400
Amy is on the ball
@lukehmuse i've heard bits of 3 muse songs tonight.olympics are loving them!
Bailey looked to be very upright on the start, more than others.
Normally they only ever used 8 lanes.
That lady went out the white lines!! 5 SECOND PENALTY
I am sure they were all men in that race
Lanes 6 & 7 are the ones of interest here.
they just showed a lady doing the triple jump
And 4
I thought she had gone over the end of the board but she made it by millimetres
It seemed like Blake and Gay had slow starts but damn they had fast times
Really slow start by Blake then he lit the after burner
Gemili has a low low dip - good effort that lad!
18 years old! These athletes, honestly.
18 years old. Not a bad effort lad!
That's gonna be a goood final.
That is a final not to miss
When he grows into an explosive start, and a good drive faze, watch out world.
Justin Gatlin also = drug cheat, apparently.
Didn't know that
little mini driving in the background. want!
I'm still trying to take in how awesome it was that Mo Farah won last night!
I was sure he was going to get swallowed up with half a lap to go and then he dug in again
Did you see that it brings things back and forth to the athletes!!
lukeh found a post on it yesterday. first time i've seen it move though. brilliant!
Only saw it briefly yesterday. SO cool.
I missed it again. They have used RC cars in rugby to take the kicking tee out on the firld and then collct it again
that was an interesting angle :)
What a reaction :)
That was awesome how they showed the studio reaction!
The cameras are always on ;)
What are they doing with that flame. Sometimes it seems as if it is really low in the stadium then at others it looks much higher
I can confirm its not moving under the scoreboard
Interesting interview with Andy Murray. Mo Farah's last 400 last night was 4 seconds faster than Andy's best time
Why is it 1500 metres and not 1600 or a mile?
NOOOOOO i missed it!
Never understood that,
100
200
400
800
1500
5000
10000
Odd sequence
I suppose at some point you've got to switch from a nice sequence of smaller numbers to a nice sequence of bigger numbers, otherwise you'd have 1600, 3200, 6400, ... etc.
Flame should be on the roof so the whole park can see it and planes landing at Heathrow.
100m final lane draw:
1 Thompson,
2 Powell,
3 Gay,
4 Blake,
5 Gatlin,
6 Bolt,
7 Bailey,
8 Martina
I must admit I had visions of them having a little candle and lots of lenses and mirrors to make it look big so they could claim it was green
Andy Baddeley is out of the 1500m :(
NZ guy goes through.
I think the commentator is disappointed
Both commentators used to be distance runners.. and so did Seb Coe
Yey for Ben :)
Partly wishing I wasn't so lazy to stay at home, could've sat on that beach.. but all I'd be doing is watching that huge screen ;)
you end up with a stadium, with space for a flame... and no flame ever again in its entire history.
A Reuters article appears to suggest Murray wouldn't have won today if other British Olympians hadn't been so successful before him: http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/08/05/oly-tenn-murray-psychology-day-idUSL6E8J53DU20120805
reckon the bbc borrowed this feature from mcnish/audi.
Going outside isn't worth it.
Also true. I'd have liked to see an extra contraption attached to one end to hold it. But then the 'everyone brings the parts of the cauldron in' wouldn't have worked too well... maybe build it at the bottom and winch it up with people dancing around it..
maybe the fuss about running around the country was down to it disappearing from public view.
BBC Radio 5Live have unleashed the McEnroe on the 100m final. This could get interesting...
Suspend it like the scoreboard thingy in the Veltins-Arena? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d2/080110_schalke_arena_germany.JPG/250px-080110_schalke_arena_germany.JPG
I went to the beach a mile away instead, for about 20 minutes. That was enough for one day.
Wow yeah, very similar
lack of a roof might make that tricky. imagine the stadium is a little wider too.
Don't they have those in US arenas? But most of those have roofs.
What's with the tron headgear on the British guy?
We'd need a roof.. and not be scared of it falling.. and gas lines
Ideas man ;)
fun f1 stuff - http://www.lotusf1team.com/The-Lightning-Bolt-vs-the-Black.html
Aww - that guy wanting Pistorius' nameplate.
Surprisingly slow for Oscar
Wow, Bolt hits 45 km/h; I'd struggle to reach that on my bike!
Or at least my perception of how fast he'd be
So close to a bronze!
You'd need a racing bike to do that. I have apparently done that downhill with a tailwind, but it was gps so I don't know how accurate that really is.
Glad Cram finished that sentence... "Has always seemed possessed... of talent."
they can easily put seats in when they remove the flame and they try get around its non visibility by showing it on big screens but its really not the same thing!
Wooo! high jump! something i was good at in school.
Well, jumping into the crash mat. no one said anything about the bar.
The feature on Ohurugou is very distracting for me.
It's like charts on crack.
I'm not sure Christine Ohourougu's hairdo is very aerodynamic.
I imagine having your name all over the screen and repeated often is quite odd.
Ohh, there;s some of those bizarro sleeves.
I think the American will win
Gooo Christine.
Weird.
Great comeback from mrs c!
I mean christine!
I mean!
Amazing sprint at the end!
Confusion all round!
I wish I could do that :)
She left herself a lot to do, and I thought we were watching a semi - oops.
Wow, how did she come back from that? Nice silver. And the American did win..
Was a good race. She did herself proud.
so much Bolt hype"
I've seen this film before. If ever there was a sign that I was watching too much Olympics :)
I love Linford Christie's phrase "you gotta start on the B of the bang"...
Makes me miss gladiators seeing him!
Bugger actually that was kris akubusi wasn't it?
Don't; don't-don't-don't; don't Bolt-lieve the hype!
I still remember his 100m final in Barcelona. Awesome stuff.
When I watched it was John Fashanu
Kriss Akabusi was Record Breakers,
John Fashanu was Gladiators, and they both loved to say Awoooooooooooga!
Google tells me you are correct. where am I getting Kris from then?!
ooohhhhhhh. that makes sense.
Can my live stream get a gold for buffering?
argh!!
So did Craig Charles on Robot Wars. Must've been a 90s thing.
I could never do the steeplechase - I hate getting my feet wet while running!
Can't they just go under it?
Got to be better than having to jump over things
I love how you look at the world Lukeh.
My problem is I'd be scared of catching my feet on the steeplechase thing and failing miserably. Whereas if you roll under it it's not so bad
I think Adam Buxton would probably beat it ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wj-ABeSmAE (Possibly NSF-SPC)
It looks like you need yellow shoes to be good at the steeplechase
That hurdle looks like it would hurt!
DAT GUY MUST BE ALIEN OR SUTIN
Would they be disqualified if they ran around it?
Or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibtcWbxoXNU
The guy who won was off home before evn finishing!
Oh my word. Steeplechase is evil!
Who knew the barrier and all that water could become invisible
Do you always trust everything GerryBaboona says?
Is the 100m final soon? My german/italian is not up to scratch...
15 minutes I think
2150
That would have REALLY hurt!
He can always spot an alien or sutin
Much thanks.
... out of all the peopl on planet.
OUCH
I'm not even going to quote the dynamo one :)
Haha, never saw that one
I need that buffering wheel!
err, that's the helicopter mr cameraman.
Probably the best episode in years with the guest hosts. Highly recommended :)
Are you sure that's a helicopter?
To everyone who's not seen it, it say sutin v rude.
Adam (and Joe) are one of the funniest things to come out in recent (& some less recent) times.
Me too! I'm mostly buffering here, not seeing what's actually happening. :(((
I would like to have one in the office just for comedy effect.
Can you imagine the tantrums John McEnroe's kids must have?
Here we go, the big 100m final!
i am no idea if the man sitting it was.
'ooooh, flashing light'
"i spotted ufo and it's following us"
100m final in 5 minutes
Colin Jackson predicting 9.64
Love how usain bolt is wearing a beanie and gloves!
Must be something to behold
Hehe, it's the F1 countdown :)
it is!
Watch the rest of the ep (or at elast the other clips from it) :D
Wonder how he deals with them
Loving all of this posturing before the final!
Oooh, exciting.
They're all going to shock the world by agreeing in union to run the race backwards
Powell looked like he was trying some face-pulling tactics there, but he doesn't pull it off as well as Usain :)
Boooo double time drug cheat. How do these people get back in?
Hope Gatlin doesn't win.
dj bolt
Love the way these guys start acting up as soon as the prvious one is announced and they know the camera will be on them
Throws a better tantrum.
I can tell you that I don't see this race lasting longer than 40 seconds.
#expert
Silence!
Wow - this is quick. I started typing this at the gun, and dunno whether I've managed to post it before the finish ... !!
WWOW!
9.64!!!!
Dead on what colin jackson said!!
leg.end.
Bolt in exactly the time Colin Jackson predicted
That was SO FAST.
Did anyone see who was second?
Nice final phase, drives past them all! 9.64 OR
best speed sporting ever
err
HHe is so awesome! DJ Bolt for the win!
Incredible.
That is all i asked for ;)
I knew it!!!
WHo was watching anyone else?
what happened with that bottle before they started? did anyone else see that?
Looks like the officilas didn't see it either - no results yet ;)
yeah fell short though. phew.
Gatlin in bronze, boo.
Commentator said Blake then Gatlin
Drug cheat third.
Time rounded down to 9.63
truly Usain in the Membrane.
They couldn't handle the psychic power of Jackson - rounded the time down.
Jamaica 1-2
He didn't even get a good start. Madness.
Bolt is the first to defend Olympic 100m title?
He never does
With the new rules he had to be cautious I suppose.
Bolt was so much faster than everyone else!
Since Carl Lewis
I bet whatever his kids do is greeted with
You cannot be serious
(_O_/
Poor attempt at ASCII art Bolt celebration
Why do they insist on asking these people how bad they feel?
We've been waiting all day for that and now it's done! Just like that.
i want f1 sprints
glad i woke up for that
bolt what a star, the greatest ever
hows the irony, gatlin, convicted drug cheat runs 9.79, the exact same time that ben johnson run inthe famous race in seoul 1988, 9.79
Try drag racing
Archie Han 1904-1908
Carl Lewis after Ben Johnston was disqualified
Bolt
Only people to win 100 at consecutive Olympics
:)
4.5 seconds. makes 100 metres seem like a marathon
Bolt should ask Newey about that ride height system- he could use it for his starts to go even quicker.
Go Wenlock! :)
incoming WENLOCK!
Heheheh Wenlock :)
Why is it always him/her? What happened to the other one
I haven't seen the Wenlock before, but striking the pose is awesome!
*Make sure you keep my wenlock teddy safe!"
Mandeville?
Paralympic mascot?
He went to race in DTM
LOL
hehe
I thought they were both for the Olympics
:)
Usain Bolt is awesome.
i need a wenlock gif
I'd like to see these guys at the winter olympics too. Pefereabbly bobsled.
Blake talks as fast as he runs ;)
The fastest of the fastest of Jamaican sprintas.
Mandeville's name comes from the Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England which organised the Stoke Mandeville Games in 1948, a competition for injured soldiers; they are regarded as the inspiration for the Paralympics.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wenlock_and_Mandeville
THE BIG MAN!
Michael Johnson is not impressed
There is even a Wenlock twitter account @iamwenlock
He looked disgusted
That looked staged to me.
Oh please
I thought it was an odd name give the association with the hospital
http://t.co/0E0kKShn
Even Jake is doing the pose
I think they're both a bit embarrassed now, tbh
No way
he was there for jessica ennis goodnight. trust me, he has seen worse.
I've noticed it seems a big deal among American press not to cheer in the press areas
Well we have seen a day full of action
There's an @iamMandeville as well
It was funny when Colin Jackson shouted HERE COMES WHAT'S HIS NAME though :)
he had :)
Looks like she has a glowing butterfly attached to her face
It's been hours since the last Team GB medal, when's the next one expected? :)
She reminds me of seven of nine :)
From Mandeville's Twitter, it looks like he is more geared towards the Paras, yes.
The women's kit belt makes them look ready for Judo
I don't think she would have finished anywhere but first
Chariots of Fire is the Christian Horner of the Olympics. It's everywhere.
I was just thinking it looked odd. First time I saw it was last night and I thought it was a personal add on by Jess Ennis.
Isn't on the men's
Maurice Greene has just called Bolt "a very good talent" - surely, a slight understatement :)
Chanel sponsorship?
More ambush marketing. Just like the beats by dre headphones.
They're almost as bad as Dre
I'm pleased he has finally made it out of eminem's basement though
Just saw a tweet saying instead of showing the 100m NBC in America showed show jumping
Sorry?
Wouldn't be a surprise
unreal
Wow. That's a bit fail isnt it?
Just a lyric from a really old eminem song where he says he has dr dre in his basement :)
Ah I see. Not a big fan of mr. Mathers to be honest.
Usain Bolt ran part of that race at 31mph apparently, yeeesh. I'm travelling to work on him tomorrow to save fuel.
Gold for Denmark in the omniomniomnium :)
The Real Slim Shady, when M&M was good
Lasse Hansen apparently
BONKERS !! (again)
We saw part of it on the iPad but missed it for the tennis.
Bullet Cam in he gymnastic is fab!
I can't wait for the Doctor Who event!
Oh it's a trailer
should be in more events. really cool.
Good luck with proper time-keeping.
Have ITV gone bankrupt yet?
who?
they may as well give up programming
until the end of the olympics*switches to Beach Volleyball Quarter Final*
Would anybody really notice?
Maybe it's what Apple are waiting for before releasing their television :)
Because of the time difference they save all the good stuff for their prime time shows each night. By the time it's shown here it's been done (and spoiled) for 5-6 hours.
Heard so so many bad things about the NBC coverage. Really feel for you guys.
The same is happening in NZ apparently.
Is there an option for live paid content?
Also didn't they cut stuff out of the opening ceremony because they didn't think viewers would understand it? Their words and everything
Esp before they show the action, the drop trailers (spoilers) for the medal-winners on whichever show is coming afterwards.
F1 and SPEED has prepared me well for NBC Failympic coverage.
Just get a UK Proxy address and watch the Beeb online.
I remember staying up late for the 100m during LA Olympics. It was late but at least it was live
They're streaming everything online, but I'm buffering so badly here I had to give up on that.
Yeah. Idiots.
How's the BBC site been holding up. I've been impressed by the tv content
fab day of sports. i shall bid y'all a good night. cheers for the company everyone.
Haven't had any issues and wonderful quality too. BBC doing a remarkable job providing coverage.
its akamai not the beeb. but its been perfect.
Sky helped with the costs :)
On the bright side, whatever I miss that I want to see (from reading what you guys are saying), I can see later on...on the actual TV!
I've had no real problem. Only once did the cycling final race have the picture replaced with something else (I had sound, but missed seeing Gold), but that was a leaning on a button thing.
it's worth it too :)
Neck and neck in the first set
USA vs CZE
geez thats pretty bad, most of the finals are happening a all sorts of hours here, mostly from 3:30 am to 7 am and they are still showing them live.
right, time to retire for the day i think. cheers for another excellent day of olympic fun! :)
Just discovered there's another omnium tomorrow - the women's event.
4.08pm 250m Flying Lap
5.06pm Points Race
6.18pm Elimination Race
3 more races on Tuesday.
I'm disappointed to miss the men's one, so thanks for the heads up
With those times I am going to miss all the races
Astonishing
At some point very soon I may miss the events of the next few days ;)

I haven't found anyone there who will confirm that
Well that's what my sister told me. They show highlights, but tell you who the winner is before they show them.
Strong chance of an all-American final in the Women's Beach Volleyball
my mum said all the big stuff is live but its the middle of the night/while everyone us at work so no one sees it
So therefore they assume by the time the highlights are on (when my sister is presumably watching) that everyone knows the result.
I never realised Andy Murray got so upset after losing Wimbledon.
probably! Bit silly though, some people are very good at avoiding spoilers
Yeah I used to try to. I think my sister is, which is why she got annoyed with it.
Pretty hard to do anything else with an11 hour time difference though!

Female Dutch judo medallist thwarted an attempt to ruin the 100m by decking an intruder onto track apparently! Biggerish story now!
Ooh, good save.
[cue more G4S grief]
Nice response to that tweet:
Do they keep the judo teams on standby for incidents like that?!
final is Tuesday night. Hope he gets another medal!
