Today the big one starts, the athletics gets underway with medals up for grabs straight away in the 10,000m and shot put. The swimming continues to be awesome and there are more medals available this evening. Other finals happening today: Men's Individual Archery, Men's Doubles Badminton, Track Cycling (Pursuit and Keirin), Men's Team Sabre, Men's and Women's Judo, four lots of Rowing, Shooting, Men's Trampoline, and more Men's and Women's Weightlifting.
London 2012, Day 7
Published by Christine Blachford on
more gold for the kiwis, rowing again.
geez now they are ahead of the aussies...
Gold! I've picked a good day to be going to Kiwi House, the atmosphere will be great!
we're looking good for the mens single sculls in 30 min too
aussies and kiwis in the womens doubles now. poms too, they are the favourites. gb undefeted apparently this year.
the athletics stadium is looking different since the opening ceremony :)
booooooo, more gold to gb, australia another silver
w00t! i mean, sorry about that.
he he, you have had a good couple of days, we are going ok, but lacking gold
i'm terrible at competition, i wish everyone could get gold. #stillcheeringswitzerland
Like school sports day, everybody's a winner!
God, this is... Ow! http://twitter.com/Euan_Burton/status/231173893031870464/photo/1
yes! no-one goes home empty handed.
that the judo woman? ouchie.
more gold to the kiwis
I made it in in time to see that! Might cry at the anthem haha
i've already cried at the rowing twice.. so i've turned on the tennis just in time to see Delpo take the first set to Roger!! :o
hehe i like the commentary on this match 'Mirka's going through it again, she's had twins, and goodness knows how many kittens...'
Love these golds. Great job NZ too.
Seems that Jess Ennis is doing well to, 0.25s faster than PB in the hurdles and going as fast as those in the individual event, crazy stuff for a heptathlete.
Team GB currently 4th in the medal table too, which is nice to see - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/2012/medals/countries
um.... mens trampoline?????? i guess its a sport.
I learned the trick to not crying at the anthem is to sing along, then I saw all the TV cameras. I hope I make the news, it'd make my mums day haha.
The GB man who got bronze cried so much it set off half the women in the room. So sweet
when Kim clijsters got knocked out her husband tweeted
@blynch8: My lil Jada went to her first tennis camp 2 weeks ago and all the kids get medals for coming. She just told me "mama can have my medal" best
Also, they've started that kid early. With two athlete parents I smell 2nd generation grand slams
how do you score that? highest bounce?
I want to be positive about the nz women's football team, but there defence is leakier than a sieve.
it's like diving but without water and with more than one dive
Federer vs Delpo score now 8-8 in the last set, with no tie break this will be another epicly long match :)
Judy Murray has the right idea :) - https://twitter.com/judmoo/status/231394547417092096/photo/1
Delpo has injured himself!! stop falling over Delpo!
this i must see :)
The office is v. Excited about Ms Ennis, I don't think I've ever had such in depth conversations about 3cm intervals.
imI basing this on the fact my diving judge friend used to train on trampolines when he was a competitor
or you know, keep doing it
i dont know who to support, i want delpo to have a chance, but i want Federer to aswel...
Delpo can get bronze.
nooooo!! that's for Muzza.. ;)
very pessimistic of you!
well.. the very least i want him to get is a Bronze.. i hope he can get past Nole.. but... it's Nole.....
he hasn't been playing amaaaazing though
this is true, but i suppose i see Murray playing Mixed doubles as well as the singles each day, and assume he'll just be a bit more tired than Nole. I HOPE he gets past him, but if i expect Bronze anything above that will make me super happy!! :)
yeah thats it, not sure how the judges judge it. it all looks pretty similar to me.
at least with diving we can see the splash, the entry and if it looks alright but this trampoline thing all looks the same.
Oh for gods sake
Delpo breaks back!!!
Pirelli's Paul Hembery is at the Velodrome
mears and pendleton in the same heat
NZ denied a clear pen. 1 down 5 to go..
Ah, leroux scores.. she went in for the kill... Game over
Meanwhile at the Olympic Championships of Wimbledon, Deuce at 14 all in the deciding set for Federer and Del Porto
Del Porto to 15-14
i can't believe this is still going on! neither are showing major signs of fatigue!! 3:53mins so far!
And I can only stay until quater-of before I have to go to work. :(
For NBC in the US, this is pretty much their last broadcasting hurrah for being at Wimbledon. As you might recall, ESPN broadcasted their first Wimbledon this year after almost 4 decades of finals coverage on NBC.
3:58 - now officially the longest match in Olympic history.
Poor Tsonga, he only had that record for a few days!
These guys are going to be hitting the bottle afterwards.
THe Powerade bottle, that is...
15 all, in games!
They're a bit stuck schedule wise, they can't start any of the doubles matches as the people in them are either still playing or waiting to play singles
How many courts at the AELTC are being used for the Games?
dEL pORTO UP 16-15
at this rate Murray will be playing his doubles (once his singles is done) at like midnight!
Could they not move Azerenka vs Williams to Court 1 to replace the doubles match Muzza should be in? so he can then play after this epic on court 1. Or will they not change courts around?
the only court free at the moment is court 2 and they won't play a semi there.
aussies v the kiwis in the cycling
At the US Open, the final oset would have been a tie-breaker
but once Tsonga / Llorda finish their match Court 1 will be free?
ooh I could do with a reason to change the channel
At this rate, I may have to follow this match with the smartphone app.
17-16 del Porto
it would end up Murray playing two matches in a row I think. Its so confusing.
that's because the us open is silly
i think that's probably going to happen anyway, right? unless he plays two doubles tomorrow (presuming him and Laura win their first)
oh this channel sucks too
I had so much planned for my afternoon, What the Federer/ Delpo match, clean study, watch Murray, pop to the shops, watch murray/ robson match..
i'm somewhat stuck at the first hurdle :D
i have flicked over to watch a bit of Tsonga's match :) yay tsonga!
true. Im sure they'll move something somewhere, the question is what and when :)
And I better leave for worlk. I'll catch you guys later. :)
I like both these teams and I like the Bryan's so yay, the gold medal match winner is guaranteed not to suck :)
hehe! good job the winner of this match will get a day off tomorrow i should think!
I had also forgotten it was Tsonga vs the pretty spaniards.. oh the choices! i need a split screen!
Oh god the babies at Wimbledon
TAKE THEM OUT
i enjoy watching the Bryan's win cause of their fun chest bump thing :) But i really want Tsonga to win!! :)
I think we should give Delpo the mixed doubles gold, then he and Rog can both get one :)
DO IT THIS TIME ROGER
no, no, no i can't allow that either. I want Murray to get a gold there too ;)
silver is fine for them because Dulko is way cooler than Robson.
Hooooooooold oh please please pleeeeeeeeease.
I can't watch. I'm going to rescue my washing from the kitchen.
aussies v gb for the gold medal in the mens team pursuit
nz v russia for the bronze
Match point Fed.
Mirka is on the edge of her seat.
Still not over? I'm going to hide in my bedroom.
Also: tee hee I did my laundry in the kitchen
amazing 4:26 mins.. crazy!
Yaaaay! Now I must go rewind the TiVo and watch match point.
SEE YOU ON SUNDAY ROGER
And now I'm crying. Damn eyes.
:) he definitely deserves gold now.. :)
although if Murray gets to the final i think he'd be crushed to loose again..
and now to Tsonga, it doesn't feel the same watching his doubles without sitting in a crowd of crazy French fans chanting!
I've switched to the cycling to see some more kiwis, wooo!
Kimi would be proud :)
£1.50 for 4 at Iceland. I thought of Lukeh while there :)
hahaha not a bad deal there!
also, are you going to check this out Amy - http://www.mclaren.com/page/come-and-see-mclaren-during-the-london-2012-summer-games
I actually would love the spaniards to take this because Feli only got into the team since Rafa withdrew and I think it'd be really nice to take the ultimate advantage of someone else's misfortune for the country.
noooo tsonga must win cause he is adorable :)
hehe! you have to go, i havent been able to get there yet..
Plan is to hit up shopping the day before I leave, since Oxford st was such a bust, maybe a mall will give me more choice. And I'm well under budget so can go crazy.
There's an F1 merch shop on Regent Street, or there was, but it can be fairly expensive. Somewhere near the Picadilly end on the inside of the bend, almost hidden away.
Right, working week done. Two days of non-stop Olympics. Mmmmm.
Yay, it's my neighbours turn on the bike :)
Nz were going quickest but suddenly look terrible
4th with Gb still to come. Awful.
If only individual pursuit was still in the games.
Wiggo in the pringles
hehe. if he can have em so can i.
I could go some chips. Might have to hit up the shops before I settle in for the evening.
Speaking of, if you call them crisps here why do so many brands still sell "kettle chips"
Strange but they qualified so hopefully they'll improve next round.
dunno, but they don't contain kettles either.
but they're apparently cooked in one ;)
How on earth are GB so fast?
Ali really seems to be a step above the other two. Must have picked up some tips from me when I used to bike to school with her sister 16 years ago.
you can't cook crisps in a kettle. you talk silly.
not the type you make tea with :D
I come home at the right time. We're quite good at this cycling.
Is it too wet to race inside the veledrome?
Might as well just get the red flag out at this rate.
Is there some Olympics happening? I might as well watch it now someone's turned off the lights in Yorkshire.
Are there no normal cycling races??
They're pushing the news to BBC2? Thats like, not allowed, surely...
with that banking they could have a slippery dinghy around the track race
There's the pursuit one, the motorbike one, the long one with mini-sprints and the team one. And a couple of others.
About time. They should've done that all along.
how do you train for a start where someone has to hold you? are there paid holders who follow cyclists around. i'd like that job.
stand still... let go.
Ohhh that man gets in the way at the worst time. cyclists!
They'd got word of how bad Channel 9 and NBC were doing it and thought they could lower the bar a little.
That one almost crashed the NZ rider out, nasty blocking
I'm pretty sure Pendleton could power a normal car Flintstone-style and go 30mph comfortably.
oooh that was naughty.
Her name should be Peddleton, clearly.
Is there a term for job-name synchronicity?
i'm really distracted by the glasses on the bald chap not hooking round his ears.
Thinking about it, Peddleton suggests she's a door-to-door salesperson.
A photographer is only using his iphone 4s to cover the games.. and my goodness.. look at the results - http://fstoppers.com/pro-photographer-using-his-iphone-to-photograph-the-olympics
crazy but amazing!!
aptonyms according to
The BBC News magazine calls it nominitive determinsm.
Mm. I was going for sound and as close to the original spelling as possible, but that works too.
bloody hell, if that doesn;t prove it's not just about having a brand new perfect camera then nothing can...
how does he get the underwater ones?
I love the canoe ones.
in order of priority then:
you couldn't take those pics from the stands with just an iphone :)
Oh BBC1 don't you blow my mind again.
one, two princes...
...that's what I said now.
ahh you really couldn't. think you've got the perfect list there mr c.
uh-oh.. we're 8-7 in the final set in the Tsonga/Llodra vs Lopez/Ferrer match...(with serve)
not another extra long one boys.. i wanna watch the murray match.. and maybe, you know.. some different sports.
Wow, look at the people in the park behind them, that got busy now the stadium is open
Stunning view mind
heaving. can you wander around without a ticket?
No but you might be able to get a park-only ticket, you could for Paralympics anyway
here we go, nz v russia for bronze
Wills volunteering Harry for the london marathon, he'd fit in well round these parts
then its the aussies v gb for gold
i think there was a £15 park only ticket..
Shame the BBC are showing a fluff piece to hype GB
maybe that piece could be the gold your just about to win
The crowd seem really into it, even if the BBC aren't!
cant see us winning but ill say it.. come on the aussies
and now Murray and Nole are on court! (gosh the girls payed a quick match!!) however they're both wearing the same coloured shirt! annoying!
At least Marcos [Error name cannot be spelt] had the decency to wear white. I know it's his national colour and all, but...
Bronze for us and I hope a gold for you because Australia's lack of them is funny.
hehe the French are wearing white :)
Coloured clothes at wimbledon is just wierd
This is worryingly close for my liking.
blue flags for backmarker
Why did one of them give up?
I didn't understand that at all, but awesome!
Gold in some style.
It goes on the third finisher, so the fourth man isn't neccesary except to share the burden on the way round.
Adidas dressed 90% of their players in white #wrongwimbledon
ideal role for massa that.
You big meanie.
team pursuit is my favourite since they removed the individual one. I don't like the sprint races and now there's hundreds of them.
We're quite good at cycling aren't we?
I'm imagining Christine hit Mr C at this point.
Hehe, nah, I wouldn't get violent over Massa.
I can't understand whey they would remove the individual, that was fun and I want to see another.
Just switched over to the tennis. It's like going back in time a month.
10-10 in the tsonga match! what on earth is happening in the tennis today!!
allez les bleus!! (as a french lady taught me at the tennis)
hehehe! but it's awesome :)
final of the keiren up next aus v gb again, mears v pendleton should be a classic
Do they already know when they start who the fourth wheel is?
Tsonga on the floor again.. :(
yeah probably the slowest sprinter would drop off, its all in the tactics
Andy Murray is now his own sport
Tsonga and Llodra are so painful to watch, they seem to win most matches, but it's always a tight game... please win this one!!! pleeeeaaasseee!!!
i think i'm honestly falling in love with doubles! so, so good!
World Cup winners Japan have beaten Brazil in the football, play France in the semis. GB women kick off in an hour against Canada.
oh my goodness!!! match point no4 to the spaniards.. nooooo France nooooo!!!
and so it carries on :)
this is like on wednesday! so painful to watch, just win already please France
Theres an annoying lot of channel hopping today.
Needing mroe screens has never been more necessary
Djokovic is getting angry already, he just roared..
Don't say stuff like that. You'll only encourage Mr C. ;)
f1 related olympics stuff - http://www.lotusf1team.com/Going-for-Gold-The-Enstone.html
i need 24!!
Listening to Wiggins on the radio. He's a "you know" man.
bloop. bleep. bloop. bleep. bloop. bl..
..oh, not that 24.
up to 12-12 in the Tsonga match now!
I'm noticing an issue when the athletics, handball, football and swimming start in 30 minutes.
Oh wow i totally forgot itv existed
here we go, its final time, mears v pendleton...... and a few others
France are SO CLOSE!!!!
allez les bleus!!!!!! THEY BROKE THEM!!!! YAAAYYY now just hold your serve boys!!!
i flickr to Murray to see him at duece! do not get broken Murray!!!
phew, murray holds. now back to the French :)
You're just in time to see the slowest bike race ever.
Beats me how Keiran always makes the final when he is so slow
strange race this one
i think trulli is leading the field.
I feel sorry for Keirin whenever someone says his sport isnt very good.
3 match points!
oh wait, no.. i thought they were 30-0 up. fail.
lol it's not 30-30 just to help..
That was close!
No wonder the motor bike is so slow. Victoria Pendleton nicked the engine
What a turn of speed from Pendleton. Reminds me of when Kelly Holmes ran rings around the 800m running field. Boom, see ya.
FRANCE DO NOT GET BROKEN!!!
OK so doubles tennis is all kind of ridiculous tension
WHY?!?!?!??!?! FRANCE!!! WHYYY!!!
Beautiful, just beautiful.
Reminds me of the only interesting horse race I ever saw. Erhaab winning the Derby. Looked like it had a rocket up its bum
mears just butchered that completely
watching them play live the other day i was in floods of tears when they threw away a match point.
Someone at work keeps talking about crying all the time at the Olympics. They talked a lot about tourism but who knew London 2012 would have such an impact on tissue sales?
did the pretty spaniards win?
I'd you haven't seen it you really need to see your crying rower from today. He just couldn't stop!
no! the french did a Federer and broke the Spaniards, then failed to hold.
i cried about 3 times today at the rowing, twice with the ladies, and once with the guy who got bronze!
the worst thing about having tears in my eyes on wednesday was i was surrounded by a mix of French fans (who were equally stressed) and Indian fans, who were laughing at me
Hopefully Gary Lineker will be along in a minute with the daily roundup, before the swimming starts.
Bloody hell, the UK are 3rd in the medals table now!
this is much better than the eurovision
And no Jedward
Just as I decided Gary was the solution, he's messed up his schedule!
sir chris hoy is a better representative too, he has accomplished a few more things
There he is!
Gary is silent
I guess the BBC's version of Mr C unplugged something
It's all very close between Murray and Novak so far
i can't deal with another match that goes on and on in the 3rd set i think i'd be a nervous wreck! come on Murray 2 set win please!!
come on france!!! break them!!
oh please dont through this away!!
It's not possible to watch al the stuff I want to see.
i feel your pain!
I knew I should've cloned myself before the games
it's a watershed moment in broadcasting.
this match is too much.
They should add a few more days to spread it out. I also don't want this to end.
Thrown away. :(
never want this to end.
Andy, stop hitting your head.
I know why this is. Tsonga is annoyed Federer took his longest match in the olympics title away from him earlier so he wants it back!
I have always said it should be a month not two weeks. 7 years build up for 2 weeks is madness
come on murray!! BREAK HIM!
Big match in the football, GB v Canada at Coventry(?!), winner plays the US of A, from which I saw today, won't be an easy game.
My sister throught it was 13 weeks long, if only
money well spent though. still no travel disasters either.
They shut a tube or something earlier.
MURRAY BREAKS NOLE!!!! AND GETS THE SET!!!!!!!
Murray breaks Novak to take the set :D
travel has been brilliant. I want to round up the naysayers and stick my tongue out at them,
you can do that in a guest post ;)
I thought Kiwis only stuck out their tongues during the Haka
I realised I watch tennis all year so i should watch other stuff. Now on the weightlifting.
hehe i wish i could use that logic.. :)
Gotta make sure I remember the swimming in 15 mins
still have my own blog to do first. Ugh, my first real night off, idont want to have to work!
It's not work! Reliving all the fun you have had!!!
the more events I get behind me the more daunting it feels?
That wasn't meant to be a question mark
Hmm. Just pick one to start with then. The best one. Or the latest one. No one says they have to be in order.
So many golds now that they only show the last few seconds of the podium ceremony and don't even cover the team's theme tune
As a whole, the Olympics will get more comments than Montreal last year, non?
we'll do a count. 1 sec.
murray, stop worrying me i can't take it.
Nole keeps yelling. it's scary.
Swimming time. 100m women's backstroke, then Phelps, then Adlington.
I am sure lane 8 was always at the top of the screen in swimming. I need to find video from old Olympics
oooh its earlier than i thought! *tune sin too*
already beaten that number, yup.
- canada 2011 = 2,986 comments
- olympics 2012 = 3055 comments
some set times for the doubles match then... set 1 - 34mins, 2 - 33mins, 3rd - 133mins.. and counting.
wow, world record easily broken in the swimming
Nearly a whole second off the record.
With so many of them being smashed I can't help but think a lot of these world records were set by a potato
oh my word at that point from murray?! it was in!
what happened?? i missed it!
novak tapped it just over the net which looked like a guaranteed point but andy dived right across the court, hit the ball pretty much underneath his body and still kept it in. Incredible stuff!
I knew it used to be the other way round. In this case lane 1 is still at the top but they are diving in from the right end of the pool rather than the left so you need to mentally rotate it.
ahh gutted i missed it! stupid tsonga, win already!
I kinda want Chad le Clos to beat Phelps so we get to hear from his dad again
LOOK AT MY BOY!!
the opening ceremony actually got more comments than some f1 races. hadn't realised that.
It was quite long though.
i switched at the wrong time and missed Tsonga breaking the spanish1!!! GOOOO FRANCE!!! HOLD IT... hooooooolldddddd
phelps last race as an individual
no france!!!! hoolllddddddddd
A tie for silver!
Michael Phelps' mum has absolutely gone :)
chad le clos tied in 2nd!
Someone having a nice sleep at the swimming as the place goes nuts
Uh oh.... Canada score... Filigno on the half volley.
match point!!! come on france!!!
Tie for 4th as well
17 golds is hogging it a bit
17 gold is ridiculous. Buying chocolate coins is much easier
Took their time ;)
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww that was THE CUTEST CELEBRATION EVER!!!!!
18- 16 in final set. final set was 142mins!!
right, tuning in for Becky....
then back to muzza..
Last time phelps will ever swim a single race. he has decided to start walking along the bottom of the pool instead for more of a challenge
That was quite the strut
sunglasses, towel wrapped like a scarf, catwalk strut. just needed slowmo for ultra dramatic effect
predictions for becky?
win!! or a medal. or just anything to shut frankie boyle up for being an arse about her
Can't call it. I'll say win.
Ledecky is way out in front.
fifteen years old? what age can you enter these things?
Becky is catching up
Becky 2nd! how did she even manage to do that so quickly!
I think I read somewhere the youngest is 13.
She has gone out too fast (evening all).
I feel old. *goes and cries in corner*
Some of those gymnasts down't even look that old
I know Team GB's youngest is 15, cos they went on about it enough!
And last time Tom Daley was 14. I am sure that has been mentioned once or twice
hehe my reaction too!
is it moe or are they close to the lane lines?
Becky is just marker her ...
They are all slowing down
come on Becky!!
she cant keep this up surely
Is she starting to tire? :S
ledecky is so.far.ahead
Looks like Ledecky broke them
Four lengths to go.
Gap doubled :S
tired out watching them.
Gap still going out :S
they've already done more than i do in 40 mins of swimming!
oh no come on becky!
Its not going well in the football, 2-0 down now.
They really are robots. Waterproof ones at that.
what a swim this is
If you've got the stones to go out hard and fast, that is some performance !!
Incredible swim from Ledecky.
another medal though :)
Great swim by Ledecky
16 lengths, I'm tired just watching
:) Must be a little gutting, but still the 3rd best in the world !!
Good that she beat Friis, who was her expected rival.
3rd is great if you were expecting 4th but she was expecting 1st
unbelievable swim, dont know how she held on, or more pulled away after such a fast start
Defence has gone to pot, which is odd since it was so good in the first three games.
I feel her goggle marks
but a medal is a great achievement whatever you expect! it's better than no medal!
Her full name is Katie Genevieve Ledecky.
Aww bless her.
right, now back to murray.
Super positive becky!
I need to pop over tesco; anyone need anything?
Hi everyone. I'm watching so much Olympics I barely have time to post. Have had this page open for 90 minutes!
They have a BOGOF on Flakes and Crunchies
hey chap. it's wall-to-wall excitement!
Best offer is the meal deal, which is a shame since the sandwiches are horrible.
Crunchie! And it's Friday.
i want you to be the fastest person to and from tesco ever.
*cheers for lukeh*
I know. It has to be a great deal.
it's time for my little fiesta to get it's second world record!!
(it already holds most lukeh car in the world.)
They need some different sandwiches and they need to stop sticking cheese in so many of them. No-one likes cheese because it is horrible
We can no longer be friends.
i could do with some icecream...
I make an exception for mozzarella in pizza because it doesn't really taste of anything
I don't think I've ever seen you be more wrong.
hehehe! cheese is the best thing eva!
Mozarella is boring.
Proper cheddar is where it's at, and not the boring supermarket rubber.
How can you say that? Also have you seen some of the wrong things I have said here. I said Schumacher would be just as fast as he was before his three year motorbike crash course.
everyone loves cheese dont they......
Exactly. It doesn#t smell awful like other cheese
I love the feel of eating mozzarella.
I thought that shot put was about to hit they guy's head
Although 'they' in that context is grammatically correct in these parts.
:o mozzarella salad is one of the best things to eat!!
I like seeing Wimbledon in a different colour. They should re-decorate for next year
It'll only encourage the plebians to go though.
Surely mozzarella is only used in pizzas
I like seeing Nole having issues, it helps me feel that it's possible for Murray to win against him :)
I once ate a packet of mozzarella in one go.
I get the feeling Murray will break his serve in the next game to win.
and it's in lasagne! everyone loves lasagne, right?
i really hope so :D
I'm not sure about the shot put. All the other throwing things have swinging in circles or hop-skipping forwards. Shot put is a bit... dull!
I did like it, before 2005.
also, no throwing your raquet!
Every time I have come across lasagne it has had smelly cheese in it
What sort of trauma could befall you to dislike lasagne?
It has always been the hammer that concerned me. A heavy weight on a cheese wire being swung round the head must at someone point lead to someone slicing their own head off.
mum makes the best lasagne :)
YES! Murray holds! Break him Murray breaakkk him!
Murray's mixed doubles and Williams sisters canceled for tonight
The discus is the best one. Round and round.
Williams sister's match, and Murray/ Laura Robson's match have been delayed till tomorrow.
And a proper classic event
Javelin has a history of impaling people, doesn't it?
The 100m is the epitome of speed-sporting.
GB down 2-0 to Canada. It's not looking too rosy in Coventry.
3 to go Muzza!!!
he's smiling! he knows he can win this.
I'd like to see a 100m race to qualify for a 5000m race. #MakeAllSportsLikeF1
Well I got that prediction wrong. 5-5
They're missing the race going on now!
hehehe Nole is a bit rattled tho! Murray keeps smiling.. he knows he can do this if he puts his mind to it.
Must have read what we said at Wimbledon about not looking like you are struggling even if you are
That guy at the back of the 1500m has massive long legs.
Oh, he's near the front now.
This is beautiful playing!
:D Lendal will do that to ya :)
Novak blames God for that hitting the net.
You know Murray's having a good day when he recovers from a typically awful drop shot.
These heats are slightly disappointing because there's a battle for position but once they know they're going to qualify, they don't push for the line.
2 points to go
3 match points
Got to save the energy for the big one
Andy Murray makes the final
SILVER OR GOLD FOR MUZZA!!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D
MORE TEARS! :')
Novak messed up that net charge, didn't he?
those people on centre today... amazing day for them. amazing
Jeez louise, once you open the floodgates!
He might open up the challenge for Sports Personality of the Year again :)
from both me and muzza. i am emotional today. so happy both Murray and Tsonga will at least get a silver :')
Has Victoria Pendleton won again or is this the same one?
Now running 3 screens.. :) BBC1, football, athletics (until BBC1 rejoins it at which point I'll hop over to basketball GB v France for last half)
The commentators/pundits keep saying Canada's weak points are defending and crossing, so its getting frustrating when the crosses are so poor and weak.
I think Clare Balding might have got told off. "Sorry if I was negative about Becky's medal, of course a bronze is a great achievement."
That's not what you were saying just now :)
they're sooo painful. And why did they all bring babies!
if you shine them up enough can you make them look like gold?????
They have spent all the time since her last race saying that she had a real chance to take gold in that one so being blown away by a 15 year old and getting bronze was an anti-climax
50 metre freestyle is like people trying to get away from a shark
Fran Halsall on Becks: "I'd chew off my right arm to have a bronze medal. The rest of the team think she's amazing."
I go away for 5 minutes and andy murray goes and gets himself in an olympic final, jeeez :)
Somewhere, someone is thinking "Do you know what's wrong with the Olympics? Not enough danger. Get some sharks in that pool things, tigers in the cyclo-drome, you know what I'm saying?"
You know its not going well when Steph Houghton can't get a shot on target.
chad's dad is on TV again :D
It's Lukeh's favourite dad!
4 total.. and I want another but there are no more
He's just lovely, he's a bundle of brilliance
How often is Clare Balding going to go on about how well Becky Adlington did? Clearly she has had a real chewing out by someone.
although i thought mr c may appreciate this: http://t.co/7UtGl5N7
GB seem to have brain freezes every time the ball gets near the box.
20 minutes left. I can't see us getting 1 goal nevermind 2.
I love love love the little minis out in the throwing field
Close in the basketball. France 36 GBR 34, 5mins to go in 3rd qtr.
They should put different things on each one and bring in a sofa.
I saw a picture of those :) Haven't seen them on telly yet.
Oh my word, should have been a penalty, should have been a freaking penalty for GB.
the first time I saw one there was nothing next to it for scale so we thought it was full size and were confused
Jessica Ennis about to do some running.
come on jess!
that was super close.
Fast second hundred!
I'm sorry but the BBC are really at fault for this. Adlington did AWESOME. It's only the BBC hyping up the race so much that makes it a disappointment that she didn't win.
A few years ago we would have been so happy for her to win a bronze. it's an awesome achievement against such strong opposition.
Look at it another way, NZ has won 3 golds now and everyone I know has gone nuts!
Amazing run considering how many lanes away the early leader was
Johnson-Thompson is a mouthful of a name
she has a really small typeface
Have you seen her Twitter profile? It's brilliant.
It's like a comedy sketch name
hehe - https://twitter.com/johnsonthompson
They practically gave her the gold at the weekend.
You sure Basketball is actually being played? ;)
I've only got half an eye on it but it looks close to me..
Fra 53 GB 50
5 min 42 to go
Thats it, GB lose 2-0 to Canada. A very average performance and conceeded two weak goals. All football hopes now on the men, God help us.
France v Japan, US of A v Canada in the semis.
I'm just making fun of the low score :)
I'm really enjoying the BBC coverage. It's far better than the Danish state channels and Eurosport. Mrs. Goat has asked me to turn off the Danish commentary two nights in a row because they're so stupid.
However the BBC go way over the top lavishing praise and increasing expectations of the athletes.
They're saving up all the points for later ;)
That's a shame, I really thought they'd make the final, more so than the guys.
Ah. I don't know what a normal score is. :)
Me too, maybe expectations were a bit too high after a great group stage.
Saying that, should have had a penalty, and with that, who knows.
I keep forgetting Eurosport have it, I haven't even looked at them.
Is it the women playing? If so, that's a quite normal score, I think.
Yes. I think they got up to the 70s the other day but I can't remember.
Ooh, Jo Pavey, (relatively) local to me from Exeter. The shooting guy from Dorset is from a few miles away which was pretty cool.
I was wondering that. He seemed like such a nice bloke when they interviewed him yesterday.
Born in Dorchester which is where I sometimes get the train for London. Lives in Sherborne. Trains at a shooting club at a place with a kart track where I first tried a proper outdoor kart.
Seemed very genuine despite going to a posh expensive school, I like that. No sense of entitlement etc.
1 minute to go in basketball. Fra 62 GBR 63
Why have this lot split into two sides with cones down the middle? It's very school sports day.
Gotta get the tape for the finish line too!
The Japanese are all dressed like its the 80s
So, who fancies writing a short paragraph for tomorrow? Doesn't have to be boring lists like I do.
Since its my last day in the country (and last chance for decent, non-Italian, coverage), I'm up for it.
I like the throwing events like the javelin, shotput and heavy frisbee.
I think I have figured out what is wrong with the shot putt. There needs to be 10 pins to hit
Ooh, I like that idea.
GBR women tied with France at basketball! 67 apiece. Something must happen now.
Most of the other games I've seen, they were close all the way until the last few minutes then fell apart so the winning team were loads ahead. Really enjoyed watching them this week though, seems more flowing and less intense than watching something like the US men.
I like the javelin. Never took to the others, they get in the way of the track racing. :)
At the full time I mean. Now in overtime.
I get nervous when the officials run out while it's still flying through the air, what if they misjudge it! #death
There are some nice photos here to ogle, but what I really noticed was this line in the introduction: A search of current images in a wire database reveals images coming into the system at a rate of over 1,000 an hour during the hours of competition, resulting in a major picture editing challenge.
Astonishing. Must have a team of editors.
They've been running the entire time they've been running so far. #perspective
Ohh I meant they've been running the entire time ive had a shower. My brain has given up for the day
Ah, French scored in OT. Basketball ends France 80 GBR 77.
It's okay, earlier Michael Johnson said he was worried that Jess Ennis had been really inconsistent in the events she's been inconsistent in. And he gets paid for that!
6 laps to go in the 10k
where;s Ortis to present when you need him?
Essentially, it takes me an hour longer than these crazies to do a 10k. Stoopid running.
It's interesting that Fionnuala Britton (googled that) has moved to track racing. She's dropped off the main ones here, but I remember watching her run round a cross country thing in damp conditions earlier this year or late last.
They are ridiculously good.
I can't even run 10k. That's like... 1-10 miles... somewhere in there!
6 and a bit, I think.
After that distance how do you suddenly kick it up and go faster?
I doubt I could run 1k
Look at her go!
I love the Brits having their own battle, and post-race hugs.
I could probably run a 5k. Maybe. Biking is more funner, though.
They're doing a whole other lap now. :)
10 k is driving distance. I didn't go to the expense of getting a car to cover 6 and a quarter miles on foot
I remember finishing second to last in a cross-school 1k run (it was part of a mini-triathlon), the last 500 were torture.
Here's tomorrow's schedule for those planning ahead: http://www.london2012.com/schedule-and-results/day=4-august/all-day.html
Busy day tomorrow!!
Up at 9 for the triathlon then! Maybe watch that in bed. Lots of finals right at the end of the track and field day, looking forward to those.
Hoping to get a golf game in tomorrow for the first time in weeks, trying to squeeze it into the early afternoon when there are fewer medal events I care about. But there is rain due.
basketball is close... i think?
might be a repeat though?
ahh, it is a repeat, ignore me :)
First time on actual TV though, was just a stream earlier
not counting the Sky channel
Gabbi: "On me tonight ... Opps I mean on my sofa"
I'm watching the Olympics in 8k and 22:2 tomorrow at the BBC :-)
oh my lord :)
was reading about that earlier in the week - http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/researchanddevelopment/2012/08/the-olympics-in-super-hi-visio.shtml
Yeah, should be good - not sure it'll work in my front room though.
more awesomeness from the beeb: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/2012/08/olympic_statistics_traffic_week.html
BBC Sport website has seen 29m requests for its Olympics interactive video streams
you gotta come back and tell us all about it :)
I can't make up my mind if the bad heptathletes are crazy for trying all those events when they are more likely to improve if they concentrate on one or if they are cleverer than the people who are poor at single events because they get a lot more bang for their buck
All week there have been events running till midnight and beyond. Then on Friday night when more people can stay up late they all finish early
that is very odd scheduling.
