Team GB picked up at least one medal yesterday, and finished well in some other events - we seem to be coming in not last but not top three either. How are your favourites getting on? Today we have medals to be awarded in the following: Men's Kayak Slalom, Individual Time Trial for both men and women, Men's 3m Synchro Springboard, Individual Epee and Individual Sabre, Men's Gymnastics Individual All-Around, both men's and women's Judo, several different rowing categories, Women's Pistol Shooting, Women's Singles Table Tennis, Weightlifting for both men and women, plus those oh-so-fabulous swimming finals.

As fun as it must be to be awesome like China and USA and rack them up, the buzz in the office upon getting that first gold medal is not to be missed.

it makes it more special in a way when they only come about now and then, especilly in events where your not favourite. i can still remember sneaking in to a class room at lunch time with one of my mates and watching duncan armstrong win a gold at seoul in 88, we werent allowed to be there but it didnt stop us running around the staff room yelling out we won gold. even though i was only young and it was 24 years ago i can still remember it like it was yesterday. the teachers didnt mind but they said dont do it again.

  • john01/08/2012 at 11:34

I see from Amy on twitter that all 8 badminton players who tried to lose matches to get an easier draw in the next round have been disqualified. THey were deliberately hitting the shuttle into the net or just casually putting it out.

The fault is with the authorities for changing the format to the round-robin as it is and allowing it to be manipulated in such a way. Sure its morally wrong, but, I don't think I would have disqualified them.

  • Will^01/08/2012 at 13:17

Men's Cycling Indiv TT just starting. Chris Froome starts @1500, Wiggo soon after. #AllezWiggo

I agree. It's like playing a weakend team in the league because you have a big lead and a European game midweek. If you are in that position you have earned the right to do it. It doesn't exactly fit with the Olymic ethos but neither does having competitors who have made $10 million plus from their sport

  • Will^01/08/2012 at 13:38

Jack Bauer is competing in the cycling

  • Will^01/08/2012 at 14:05

Ooops LLSanchez broke his chain before he'd even moved off the start - new bike lost him ~25s.

Looking in at Table Tennis, the telly makes the table look pretty small. Have the Table Tennis tables according to the International governing body shrank is size over the years?

  • CAMikaze01/08/2012 at 14:23

I understand there are some Club Leagues in europe as well.

  • CAMikaze01/08/2012 at 14:24

I'll give the manufacturer credit for the table design though. ;)

Just watching women's basketball on the BBC player. GB came back from a 10 shot deficit to Russia and being behind for the whole time I watched (mid-3rd qtr) to get to just 3 points down, but it ended GB 61 - Rus 67. The Russians were taller which unsurprisingly seemed to help. :)

Not bad though given how good the Russians are and apparently GB used to be awful just a few years ago.

  • Pat W01/08/2012 at 17:30

Interestingly there are two commentators for basketball and one is Mike Carlson who is the guy who does the NFL analysing for C4/BBC.

I think they were expecting a huge influx of tourists in addition to the usual ones, but it seems some are staying away. In Weymouth they are saying trade is down on a usual year... personally I think that's as much due to the dreadful weather, and maybe partly due to all the negative 'it'll be chaos' press.

Bradley greeting the crowds on BBC3. Mr C says: "Has he got more racing to do? It's past his bedtime. Can't he wait to be a legend until after the Olympics is over?"

    :)

    I thought Brad had finished.

    Yay!

We need pictures. Once Wiggomania dies down a bit you can do Elvis impressions too.

They were showing short clips of things that had happened today on BBC1. Someone at the archery almost shot a bird. A bird flew in front of the target just as the arrow arrived. I guess birds must get hit occassionally at archery and clay pigeon shooting. I wonder if a bird has ever been hit by a clay.

Just flicked through some the BBC's special Olympic channels and couldn't believe what they are wearing at the beach volleyball. Both teams are wearing track suit trousers, tee shirts with bikini tops on top of the tee shirt. Is this a female version of Superman's underwear on the outside?

bringing a beach to london wasn't the cleverest of ideas? they should've installed some of those outdoor pub garden heaters to warm the players up a bit.

Watching the GB Hockey highlights, probably the best thing that comes to mind is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lacrosse_helmet

If you missed anything today and are in the UK (or able to access BBC) I recommend Olympics Tonight, 10.40pm - Midnight on BBC1. Has been good all week and I like the closing credits montage finishing with Big Ben.

Had the best day at Wimbledon again today, some amazing matches! Much busier today than it was saturday which is good to see, all outside courts were packed except for the one Venus was playing at.. but that was probably a good thing. Tsongas doubles and Rogers two matches are the highlights for me. Goodness isn't the Olympics fun! The cheers when people heard about all of the medals! :) atmosphere is awesome. Sad that was my last Olympic day tho.
