Given his stunning 3rd place finish in the Australian Grand Prix, I do declare today the International Day of Vitaly Petrov.

Vitaly gets a taste for champagne
You can read comments about Petrov's fabulous drive from sixth to third place in the live thread. You can read facts and stats about Petrov's remarkable talents in the race highlights thread.
You can see just how well Vitaly did in the race result post, as well as view his massive points haul in the driver's standings and where he placed his team (all by himself) in the team's standings.
Vitaly Petrov. Fabulous.
Best. daily. ever. :D
And I really love that photo.
franck who?
I love this daily because a) petrov is awesome
and b) it doesn't break my phone like the super long ones do :D
Awesome! Petrov did amazing yesterday :)
I'm so so so so soooooooo happy you saw this photo! I was showing it to Lukeh earlier as an example of why Lorenzo is the most influential F1 photog to me. Just beautiful.
Awww. Lovely daily, Christine :)
hehe Amy is in good company, Jason and Nat were also Suttoned this weekend :)
http://www.sutton-images.com/preview.asp?filename=d11aus475.jpg
amy was suttoned?
Keep up
She was on TV too
WHAT?
yes :) http://www.sutton-images.com/previews/d11aus1220.jpg
what hasn't she blogged this yet?
omg.
i've needed to sleep! and now I have this pesky job taking up the next 6 hours of my life.
http://amyfulton.posterous.com/i-was-on-the-telly
ooh they are fanvisioning. at times my tweets this weekend may have sounded like paid fanvision advertisements but gosh i loved it :)
you can't trick me, that isn't amy.
it took me a while to find her, but she's there :)
Definite rivalry going on between the various members of the Franchitti/di Resta clan - Dario's tweeted to Paul that they both needed their respective performances this weekend to keep up with what Marino Franchitti did in Sebring last week...
ohh F1 cake! - http://www.sutton-images.com/preview.asp?filename=d11aus189.jpg
and Sutil.. looking very camp.. - http://www.sutton-images.com/preview.asp?filename=d11aus593.jpg
fixed.
:D
That looks like a yummy cake :)
hehe i'm surprised anyone who isn't me could find me, knowing where i was and what i was wearing was helpful and if it wasn't for Pamela and her bright yellow backpack from Spa in another frame I probably still wouldn't have noticed it was us.
Left on our Facebook wall:
"Christine I want to say that I played your Pirelli song for my roommate and it has become the official anthem of the 2011 F1 season at my place. It will be played at high volume before each and every race this year. It reeks of perfection."
Ohhh dear :)
You only need a few more for the album now
Wow! The difficult second album is getting traction :)
Mr C said something about an EP but I dunno what that is.
:D
oh for...
hehe!
An album, but with fewer songs (maybe just 5).
more points for glock: http://www.mobypicture.com/user/realTimoGlock/view/9074724
Not so much an album. More like a booklet :)
Third time today I have seen that posted
in the comments? oops.
Yes
apologies. it's no excuse, but i reckon i've seen about 5% of the comments this weekend.
I never mind stuff being re-posted because there are always different people around.
I just don't want him to get three lots of points :D
heheheh.
I was at the track and then I came home and caught up on all the live posts #crazy
Hehehe. It could happen!
very crazy. i haven't managed to hit the more button in days.
I sat through the whole live thread live and I reckon I missed at least 700 comments
the faster we make the site, the more people comment!
I just found it impossible to read a lot of the comments as they were coming in. If I wrote even a short comment I missed 20 or 30
did you try the pause button in the dashboard? that sorted helped me.
the more people like my photo? #hopeful
:)
I would probably have missed another 50 comments reading the ones I missed.
I deliberately cut back on commenting to make sure I could concentrate on the race
that's what the highlights reel is for :)
:D
ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/f1-debrief-its-like-international-rescue-except-theres-more-drinking
ooh the sepang circuit have finally updated their public transport info on their website. talk about late notice.
plus I have spent about 36 hours trying to work out why I have massive bruises underneath both of my upper arms when theres been no mr c hugs in sight. It finally just came to me, I was crushed against the paddock fence!
Time to grab so sleep. My bodyclock is all over the place but I should try to sleep.
Night all.
you're sleeping before hearing paul's performance report?
just occurred to me, did anyone see/hear from lee during the race??
@ LeeMcKenzieF1: Sun is shining and I've been enjoying the beach. Now for some lunch with @BSenna and @karunchandhok
#itsalrightforsome
Driving home is not as much fun ad driving to the race
Oh, and gps fail. It wanted to take me on a 400km detour.
I prefer to just go straight home thanks
aw :( you should have stolen your brothers flight and let him do the driving :)
I should have. The are enjoying themselves in the city
I should have. They are enjoying Themselves in the city
I love country towns where they yell from the kitchen to ask what you want to eat :-)
this GP for me was the first race in years I watched as a normal fan, watching, enjoying, not commenting, not tweeting, not thinking about what to write about the next day, not panicking about where to find time to evaluate the results of the prediction game before the next round is on ... what a great feeling. if I still had any thoughts at the back of my mind to revive the blog one day they are very much gone after this race
awesome photo on page 9 of the GP+ mag
I just stopped at " the best coffee on the highway"
No, it's really not. The cake is nice though....
Morning, if anyone is interested the FIA Doctor for this region (http://www.fiainstitute.com/media-centre/features/Pages/feature-17.aspx) will be on the radio here at 6pm UK time
http://dubaieye1038.com/
booo the airasia social media person seems to be having the day off, they still haven't posted my photo :(
Does this related to your super secret plan?
Yup! :D Haven't you seen Amy explain it? :)
no... there's an explanation?
yup. check it in yesterday's thread. basically, amy (and i think pamela?) is joining Air Asia's promo by posing with the checkered flag at the Air Asia booth. winner gets all-expenses paid trip + Paddock Passes to see the Korean GP. winner is determined by most likes (on Facebook, I assume).
Aha... I have found the comment:
http://sidepodcast.com/post/daily-27th-march-2011#comment-1053895
I am good at liking things... Let me know when and I will like away
I am apparently very good at it as well. :D
prize is for two so we decided I'd be the model for the photo since my name comes up around Sidepodcast a little more often. As the photo-taker she's definitely coming too when we win ;)
T&Cs state
"JUDGING DETAILS
On Monday 4th March 2011 One (1) winner will be selected by a panel of judges. Entrants will be judged upon:
Number of “likes“ and comment on their photo
Photo originality and creativity"
so I'm not sure when they'll actually judge it since that date is wrong. I thought perhaps Monday 4 April but the terms and conditions also state that the competition runs until April 11.
I also think mine is more original and creative since I didn't just pose in the same place as everyone else :D #biased
at least they have T&Cs. they need to correct it, though... :D
they also don't mention anywhere at the competition booth or on the entry instructions about what you have to do when you get there but the T&Cs state "Entrants must have a valid passport and be available to travel. The winner will then blog and tweet during their trip and be AirAsia’s Uber fan correspondent"
I know how to blog! I know how to tweet! I'm made for this prize! I even wore my Lotus shirt for the photo :) see? http://amyfulton.posterous.com/47585390
That's a super pic. When it goes up on FriendFace I'll ask my mates to vote too...
I've decided for every X number of likes I'm going to donate $Y to Sidepodcast to say thanks for all the help with this/the other thing :) I am yet to decide on X and Y though, as much as I love this place I don't want to be bankrupt myself :)
Hehe.
BTW I am knackered today ;)
Awesome, hope the pic goes up soon though, not long to vote!
heres an article about how disappointing Webber is
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/grand-prix-2011/flagging-fortune-for-bullish-fans/story-fn7q3txe-1226029107154
that we can instantly write off as written by someone who knows nothing about the sport by the paragraph "He finished last season third and starts third on the grid, although the grid girl's sign elevated him to No.2. Even she's willing him forward."
erm, no, the signs have the cars numbers on them.
Do Aussies like Webber as a whole?
the one guy with 100 or so has had quite the head start, he's the one I'm nervous about!
*facepalm* Why do they even bother...?
hard to say, I know lots who don't but looking around at Albert Park it appears that they do.
when is the deadline to vote? April 4?
I'd go with April 4 just to be on the safe side, even if the Ts and Cs say the 11th. If they ever post my picture!
They should've posted them all at the same time. Still, I guess the said guy needs the headstart - it's not like he has an entire F1 community behind him.
I seriously doubt any of these people are even F1 fans, if they were they should have been at the track!
They had better - I must admit it's a pretty good one of you!
we took 3 and that was the best one. Pamela suggested looking at Cardboard Heikki rather than at the camera and it was a great idea :)
It is. I asked the same of Mrs. Goat and I ended up taking a really nice portrait of her because of it.
morning folks
:)
Hello. So it seems that Amy's cat (well, dog) is out of the bag :) hehe
hi pamela
I couldn't hold on any longer!
How is everyone today?
oooooh HOW IS NEW CAR?
Morning Leigh and Pamela. Indeed, the dog is out of the bag; now we need to make it run like Forrest Gump. :D
For those up for some early morning reading:
2011 Australian Grand Prix (Rd 1): http://t.co/W7fJKQn
:)
hi journeyer
Bad news. The dealer called me saying that the rear sensors are yet to be installed, so now i have to wait until Wednesday! Ugh! :(
Anywho, it'll be worth the wait :)
:/
hehe. I was just explaining the comp to my sister. I hope we can start "liking" soon!
demand a discount! :D
for sure :)
I already went to the bank today and got the cheque! Booo.
our receptionist at work has already promised to make all her friends like it. Gooo team everyone!
Nice one. I wonder if comments are worth more than "likes"? Should we be encouraging people to comment?
both!
Right. Like & comment. Got it.
hehe :D
Indeed. Doing both is best. :D
I already warned my boss that I might win so I'd need some more time off. He laughed. He doubts the power of sidepodcast.
It got you into the paddock - twice! It must never be under-estimated. :) We may need to find him some humble pie... :D
he told me he took his son on Saturday and had a great time but he didn't like that the people he was sitting by had far too much to say about what Mercedes should be doing to be faster. "If they knew as much as they thought they did they'd already be working for the team" :D
they probably need ideas, though. :D
if we did win between going to Singapore, my friends wedding in New Zealand then Korea, I'd barely be at work that month :)
would you have enough leaves to cover all that?
Brilliant.
One of the guys I work with has been desperately trying to discuss / criticise the merits of the Renault exhaust system.
Naturally I remind him that he is an accountant and not an aerodynamacist or engineer
:)
not enough paid leave but my work are very good at letting you have unpaid time off, which isn't great, but its better than not being allowed the time off at all.
I am going through my photos and some of the expressions on peoples faces are so great - I cannot wait to share :)
hahaha :D
why does the drive home take so much longer?
Are you going north? You are driving uphill ;)
ah, that must be it
wow, it really does seem to, you left aaages ago :D
i really did. maybe not leaving until 11 was a problem ;-)
ooh I took 22 photos of various fanvision screens. I should be able to put together a post out of that :)
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/03/28/3175304.htm
Grand Prix attendance down on last year. I blame the weather :(
i find that hard to believe. it seemed packed!
I guess 7,000 people when you're talking a crowd of over 100,000 isn't too noticeable
Haven't one or two stands been removed over the years though?
My two 60" televisions have arrived... Shame I'm not going to be able to watch tv on them :(
(these are for work btw)
two got removed a few years ago but a new stand was added last year and one of the old ones was bought back this year
60" !!!!
Yes... 60"
We just discovered the first problem... They don't fit in the lifts!
Sadly they are going to be mounted in portrait mode so there won't be a chance to watch F1 on them on the weekend or anything! Boo!
They will be mounted side by side which makes the total diagonal rather insane.
:D
new fire engine red coffee maker arrived in office. the test brew delayed till tomorrow due the scratch on shiny surface that required replacement of the machine for a blemish free one
Just listening to the Chequered Flag podcast now. Whitmarsh sounding somewhat disappointed with the stewards
I think i will have this problem at the weekend, im moving up another 14 stories in the same tower, its going to be a bit of a jigsaw to stop an empty lift and try and fit as much as posible in without it going beeeeeeeep
They could've been 3rd without the penalty. The stewards made the right decision, though.
Absolutely
more less saying same as on the Forum. I think they only have themselves to blame. Button probably could not tell from the cockpit but the team watched same TV feed as all of us ...
I have made a decision on X and Y but you'll have to wait for the blog post to find out :) #hurryupairasia
now I do not remember what was the race last year but Alonso and Ferrari ruined one race for themselves in exactly the same. amazing how these top teams with all the technology available to them can still make a wrong call in these circumstances ... and imagine what difference could few more points make for Alonso last year ...
silverstone
hello daily. what have i missed?
I'm going to give you some money :)
i wrote a race review finally. then slept - also finally
:)
good morning sir
oh and i too shall donate later on
awesome!
...why?
oooh, cool. thanks you. i am awake honest :)
because i'm going to use sidepodcast to pimp out my need for facebook love and its my way of saying thankyou :)
Yeah yeah, he did well and by his own. He's a talented driver, otherwise he wouldn't sit in the cockpit of a F1 car, and finally he shows a bit of it.. All what's now in my mind, what could have done Robert with such a car?
Sure, anyone can do it with the proper car but it might not be easy anyway, there're other good teams and cars, and other very good drivers around. So the magnificent job of the Russian driver yesterday deserves some cold Champagne and a trophy.
I'd be cautious and leave some races to see if Vitaly finally graduates in this of racing a F1 car, we've just seen the very top of an iceberg and maybe it is just an ice-cube inside a 'Cubalibre', hopefully he can starts a rush of good results which ensures his seat and also brings Renault (well, this renamed Lotus Renault GP) again to the winning path.
Let's do not repeat the vows of confidence and the madness which we had for Lewis Hamilton in 2007, all of us know he didn't get the title because of something called "Inexperience".
hehe. cool.
i promise to report back from korea ;)
Do you get accommodation at one of the 'hotels' ?
Interesting tweet from Tony:
On flight was petronas ceo who also came to watch race. Super talk. First real chance to talk. Lots we can do together. Cleared up the past
Interesting. I do remember Tony being quite miffed at them last year
you get accommodation for the race but gosh knows where!
Iiiiinteresting.
P.S. do not tell Ross Brawn :-)
I wonder if thats an indication of how the court case is going, not much news on that front really
or Norbert Haug, or Nick Fry...
That may be reading too much into it, I reckon.
But how else will we start rumours for GMM?
:D
Petronas have a tie up with Proton (some speculation thats why they didnt sponsor LR at the start of last year)
If i was a wildly speculating bedroom news journalist:
Either they want a deal with Tony to fuel his planes more than putting oil in road cars, or he is going to rebrand and the proton conflict has gone
is the competition advertised in gp+ the same thing that amy's taking part in?
printscreen? :)
http://sidepodcast.posterous.com/airasia-uber-gp-fan-competition
Haven't looked yet (will do tonight though)
looks to be :)
small world :)
Oooh what are you gettingt?
my photos are slowly slowly slowly uploading to flickr but in the meantime here they are on facebook
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2029854&id=218600221&l=d9237293e8
they might be running more than one version of that competition though because the one I'm doing was specifically for Australians and the only chances to get the photos needed were between Thursday and Sunday. It's all done through www.facebook.com/airasiaaustralia as opposed to the main Air Asia facebook page too.
great pics!
some person highlights: Heikki's room, appalled Bruno :D
Need a FaceBook login unfortunately
ah if you go to the actual public album link i posted before they should all come up.
and if you don't have a facebook login, how are you going to help me get to korea? :D
oh right
If you don't have one, get one just to vote for amy!
I think they want to just keep adding more car names to their team name...
So next year Renault will surprise the grid by taking on Proton Engines and will become Lotus Renault Proton.
And Lotus will continue with the Renault engines and take on Proton as Title sponsors becoming Proton Lotus Renault.
the two lotus' could merge.
Lotus Proton Renault Lotus
Dont forget the proton engine:
Lotus Proton Renault Lotus Proton
:)
I realised reading the daily this morning how wonderful it was that a guy like Petrov got a podium and how we shouldn't necessarily mix up the drivers in all of this silly fighting over a name.
Absolutely, its nothing do do with him
In fact his sucess could provide a solution, if lada take over the title sponsorship its still LRGP
Hard not to associate a driver with his team though.
:)
:)
Lotus Proton Renault Lotus Lada as powered by Nissan?
Hehe, I definitely do not think Petrov will win the title this year.
seems Lewis did stay at the Hilton. #stalkingviaF1ladies
oooh Pamela is an F1 lady! :D
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=209528239059110&set=a.209297835748817.56856.118639574814644
Tamara E is at the mall here, wonder if she would mind if i asked to borrow her paddock pass for a few races?
I do think he is a good little racer though. A lot of the formulae he's run in the past, he's always taken a little time to hit his mark, but when he has, he's been good.
This reminds me of an Evening Standard headline board I saw some years ago it said, "Lloyds TSB Chase Abby". Which (if you know your American banks as I do) is essentially just a list of Banks.
Which in turn reminds me of this old classic joke:
What was the headline in Salem when the midget clairvoyant broke out of prison?
Small Medium At Large.
Haha, brilliant
Pamela and Jessy in the same photo!! how cool! :)
I see Tony's having another moment on Twitter.
Formula 1 is the pinnacle and we are 18 months old and we got a tiny budget. But boy we got brains innovation heart and passion.
You spelt it wrong, Tony, it's pineapple.
:D
Vitaly Petrov was definitely the Pineapple of the race yesterday!
travel insurance for malaysia is all sorted. hope i dont need it :)
Me too. What's your travel plans, BTW?
in what way do you mean? We leave next Wednesday, thats the first plan :)
:D
That, I suppose?
*dies*
Facebook login not enough to see the content in my case.
Oh dear
Is that Pamela in the red shirt? (I would think so, at least, either that or shes the one talking to Jessica, which means you guys would be able to identify someone just by looking at their back, and that would be kind of weird)
Did you guys see that Trulli was complaining that the tyres are too good now?
he is a contrary fellow
Simon Fuller, ehhh...
heheh. Then we leave Malaysia at 10.30pm after the race, good thing the track is right by the airport :)
#Lotus :P
David Hobbs is in Cars 2 as well as one of the announcers.
Cool. Is that supposed to be a McLaren?
I think so which is a nice touch, but they could have painted it orange!
agreed!
I thought it was weird enough when Alan Henry mistook the (rather tall) Gianmaria Bruni for the (average-for-F1-pilot-sized) Zsolt Baumgartner a few years ago - at least they were on the same team, both fairly new and not from the same country as the interviewer!
Please make your mind up, Jarno...
bed time for amys, I hope my photo goes up tomorrow.
Good night :)
Us too. Good nigght
Night Amy.
Meanwhile everyone else has either got used to them or drove around the problems...
Goodnight!
Apart from those with bigger problems on their plate...
night amy
wish i could go to bed now - i'm knackered
:/
Same here - I've been running around like a maggot on a hot chop today!
Afternoon all, coming home to a new debrief is awesome :)
hi lukeh
Hey buddy
I have woken up, if only slightly
:)
Hiiiiii :)
Happy Petrov Day :D
hi alison
Hello. Office has become nice and quiet for the final 40 mins of the day. :)
Hi Pat
Nice day out..
Aye - shame I'm stuck inside
:/
same
Treating myself to the Velvet Underground to pass the time though
:)
I tend to use the London one ;)
(love Velvet Underground)
:D
nice daily thread title! I enjoyed some bits of yesterday - seeing Sauber go well, Perez and of course after all the BBC people talking about how bad he was, Petrov's 3rd. I hope he keeps going like this all year.
Not sure if you've heard that the Saubers have been excluded. They are appealing it, though.
I think he will. At least a good number of points on the horizon
Can't wait for Kubica to come back - that won't be anything as lopsided as it was last year.
I'm just hoping we have a dark horse team like that. I'm also trying to find mention of HRT of the official f1.com website...They seem not to exist, but I guess that's because they didn't start the race but were they there (on the list of teams and drivers) a few days back?
They DNQ'd. They'll register an entry, but not a race running
Ciao peoples!
yeah thanks for the headsup. I did see that as I do my catchup at lunch time! I'm intrigued how these things get missed - I guess they didn't think there was any doubt. Presumably you could just summon a steward and say, "Umm...Did we read the rules okay? Can you measure this rear wing". maybe Sauber measured from the end of the ruler where there are those extra 3 mm ?
I'm guessing it was a genuine mistake - either in design or manufacture.
So they should be here:
http://www.formula1.com/teams_and_drivers/teams/
Ciao Bassano? Ready for Boston this weekend. I believe the weather might be light snow...aah love this city...
I think it's more a case of cars chosen at random and in this instance, the stewards checked the Sauber. Apparently the Chequered Podcast chaps were saying that the Sauber rear end was getting looks from Newey and Paddy Lowe
http://www.formula1.com/teams_and_drivers/teams/192/
Yeah, I've keeping an eye on it.
I worked out why it's called New England now, I think the Pilgrims brought the weather with them :)
All set though
Right folks,
I'm off - Bassano, have fun
Interesting...I guess race 1 is always going to have people paying attention - especially as they did pretty well. Pity there was a breech.
see you later Leigh
Cheers buddy, take care
Scott, are there any retail villages in the Boston area you could recommend?
I think sadly you're right on that. It's very British on some levels - stiff upper lip attitude about the weather. New Englanders are allegedly tough about the weather but if you turn on a news while you're here, you'll have 5-10 minutes of talk about snow. I don't need a live report of someone in a place with snow. Then they'll cross to another place. With a man in snow. Then back to the studio where the weather guy says it's snowing. It's kind of funny but at least we get to stay home a lot :)
define retail villages? the answer might still be "no i can't recommend". you mean the good ol american shopping mall type thing?
It's a wonder how anything gets done around those parts, CT sounds the same from what Kai tells us :D
my European friend makes jokes about how we have all the snow days because the roads aren't clear where as in Europe, you just stick on chains on your car tyres and you (wait for it) clear the snow off the streets.
Malls [bleurgh]
Usually they are just outside town with a dozen or so stores with last season's gear with a decent discount. High St to low end designer retail
Must be Scandinavian
I think they're called "outlet malls" here and yeah normally outside town. I'll ask a local and get back to you on an email if I find anything
:) Czech actually but it's the same attitude of "It's just snow".
That's the kiddie, cheers
Eastern European hardiness :)
You can't buy kids here. I don't know what you've heard about Boston but I am now worried.
and joking ;)
*cancels plan*
:D
i had to put that in there just to be clear.
Boston is a nice place to visit for a weekend - just too bad the weather is conspiring, but hopefully the weather will be good for walking around. Have you worked out any plans yet?
That's ok
Pretty much gonna wing it, we've all read a little bit but the list is longer than 3 days worth and a lot may depend on the weather too
I'm told I shouldn't miss the clam chowder
I've missed it for about 16 months now ;) Actually I think I had it once - but I was out of state. Winging it is a good approach - nothing like plans to ruin a good holiday!
Wise words
thank the monkeys with laptops for that one.
I am being summoned to the pub, I feel it would be rude to say 'No'
Till later...
no worries. I'll just go back to work :(
Hello all. This evening I am mostly listening to Giggles Radio. :)
Grand prix: The Killers Years was very tough to watch. Totally interesting and gobsmacking at times but very tough with some of the scenes and just knowing what the sport used to be like, not only with the context of danger but the attitudes from organisers too.
I just had a snooze on my sofa for two hours. Moderately busy day but didn't think work was that hard, must've been the late night.. :)
Is it quite.. graphic then? A lot of the historic ones gloss over that sort of thing, even the ones talking specifically about it.
Oh yes, that's in my queue too
It's a brilliant one. even the truly awful songs are good.
Not through the whole thing but it does show certain crashes in detail. The main example I can remember annoyingly I can't remember the driver's name but there's a crash in a hay bale at monaco and the car is alight, and the video just stares at the said driver just burning inside lifeless with no one knowing what to do. Extremely haunting and just... unexplainable to even describe.
Then you have Williamson's crash too...
:)
Shocking stuff, seen that bit of footage before but only as a short clip. Not sure if I might pass on this one then.
Just found out one of my best friends in Dubai is moving to Singapore next month.
Sent him the street names of the circuit and told him to expect a visit in 6 months :D :D :D
Lorenzo Bandini.
They can make perfectly good and moving videos of these accidents without focusing on a man burning to death
Hi people. Non-rear wing related Sauber post: http://sauberinsight.wordpress.com/2011/03/28/good-causes/
hey RG, I shall join you in the pingling with a bit of a write up about that program I mentioned:
http://gridwalktalk.wordpress.com/2011/03/28/grand-prix-the-killer-years/
I think I will watch said program and then read your post about it #seamless.
I'll ping too then! http://sidepodcast.com/post/tweets-of-the-week-asking-for-feedback-and-handing-it-out
it's like being in a monty python sketch :)
Yeesh
Guys, it was hurting to death to race with a broken hand since lap 4! But adrenaline definitely helped me out there... @BiaRacing (Ana Beatriz)
So....if one was going to go to Silverstone this year, how many sidpodcasters would be there?
How about Goodwood?
I am thinking of making a two weeks of it.
or Sidepodcasters, even
i wanna go.. considering selling a kidney so i can be there...
most likely will be there (there most years) it's just a matter of working out how cheaply i can do it (if i can stay in my uni house early and commute or something..)
It would be my first race ever!
This is just getting really ridiculous that I've never been to one. Time to fix it.
You should do it, I;m sure people will be at one or the other. Hopefully I'll go to at least one but we;'ll see which.
ohhh!!! it would only be my second.. and a first for silverstone. problem is i'd need to get there... and it's not easy i don't think :(
I need to find out about these things.
if it's any help Goodwood is very easy to get to
Good(wood). And how many days to people usually go to? And is it worth getting grandstand tickets?
I don;t think so personally, roaming tickets have always been brilliant enough from the 2 years I've been.
sunday is probably the most active day but friday is the quiestest and easterest to see stuff, depends what you what are wanting to go and see for.
That is quite frankly the worst sentence I have ever written.
*easiest
Quiet and seeing stuff sounds much more my style.
I totally get what you mean in the sentence.
You should definitely go to goodwood though if you can, really do recommend it
I dunno if I can go. why does stuff have to cost money, bah. :(
One or two unless we start arranging something, we could get a nice handful together. It is one of the more expensive races though.
There will be several I should think. Highly likely for me for one of the days unless I do Silverstone, but may do both for the hell of it. :)
Sounds like a great idea!
More famous people on Sunday.
I've been four times and have never got a grandstand ticket, too busy visiting the different paddocks, that takes all day.
Weekend tickets are deifnitely the best because there's so much to see or so myself and lou have found over the past few years
Yeah, the pricetag is steep, but I'm thinking it's time.
Grandstand might be better if you prefer the 'hospitality' side of events, watching the cars go by. Waste of money if you are an explorer.
Excellent to know, thanks
I'd rather go see stuff up close. Cool things happen when you do that.
i think if you're coming over it's best value for money to do all 3 days. like Lukeh says you get a range of amounts of people, but the drivers tend to change over the weekend too. Jenson and other current drivers are sometimes only there for one day.. but thats confirmed much later on. You'll not be able to see everything, i've been 3 years in a row now and still not seen all of the rally stage! :o It also means you dont have to rush about trying to get there early too. Grandstand tickets really aren't worth it. you wont be sitting down too long, there is way too much to see!
Absolutely. Lukeh and Lou are right, if you can manage a weekend or two days to spend time in each area then do that.
at least you're working!!
*cries at her lack of job and that she is gonna need to sell things to do stuff*
Great help, thanks!
yes! i'd never have met Crofty, Jenson, John Button or Holly Samos in the grandstands! :)
I feel for you. During my Masters internship I had no time to work and was going to school and interning all day. It's difficult. I remember it well.
I want to go to good wood. Why is the uk so far away?
You're a star yourself! You've met so many!
I quote, from David Croft at spa..
"Oh, Hi lou!"
If I'm going all that way, I'll take the time to do what I'd like to do.
:-)
haha i only spoke to John Button cause Lukeh and Chris made me.. :D
Wimbledon, le mans.....
They must meet so many people, how did he remember?
:O
I can remember just wanting to eek at that moment.
makes me so happy thinking he remembered me!
:)
...The Open.
the banner i'm thinking..
Where is Goodwood?
I know, I could look it up. It's been a long day.
ahh
its only a 24 hour flight, it's not like its the moon :D
In South england just outside of Chichester. The railway station in chichester runs buses to the hill and back all day every day for the event.
Near here

Yay.
Silverstone at an air field out in the middle of nowhere, I know. I don't like camping. I hope there are alternatives.
Thank you!
I hear Croft holds a race round that time too.
Oh you mean living alternatives...
hehe
Yeah, I'm not big on precise word choice today....
Easily accessible from M40 or M1 so you could stay wherever really? Presuming car parking is a joke but there must be some :P
s'ok i don't do camping either. :)
And there must be busses. I'll have to go read Alex Snell's blog from last year to find out the particulars.

i'm not here yet, but i love lou&lukeh!!
*biiig hugs*

Best place to sit at Silverstone for the budget minded person who will want to look all around, having never been to a GP?
if people are doing silverstone there are SPC people locally...
I'm thinking I may come over from the US for my first GP.
Ooopps, should say
Good evening
First shouldn't I?...
Andy took me karting this evening and I'm still buzzing.
Nope, never been karting before (redface)
I found the Copse E terrace was a relatively cheap place to be, if general admission isn't to your taste and you're willing to be there by about 6 am on race day. I was there in 2009 and it had an excellent view of the corner, a good view down the straight to the end of the complex and to your left is an impressive view that goes to the Maggotts-Becketts on a clear day. With the pit lane moving in 2011, it may be less desirable (I initially picked it over alternatives due to ability to see the pit entry and the grid) but it shouldn't go up in price the way other terraces might.
Oh, and you can look all around on Friday with a terrace ticket.
Yay! Would you consider coming to a karting competition in the future? I am thinking of organising another one if enough people are willing.
Thanks for the help, Alia.
Awesome!
How did you get on?
Time for some food. Back in a few minutes.
You're welcome :)
I posted a comment on the competition photo album asking when the other photos will be posted :)
Is yours there?
nope they havent put any up since Friday so god knows how many people tried to enter over the weekend.
do we need to have an online 'put amy's photo up' petition? :)
Just watched the 60 years of F1 program on the iplayer. I assume it is geo-locked. Loved the comment from Ron Dennis. "Prost and Senna. Two of the best drivers ever, to have driven for McLaren."
I also realised that I have seen more than half the grands prix ever on TV.
