All talk at the moment has been on McLaren and the FIA, and that looks set to continue until their hearing is over later this month. As a refreshing change, then, here are some of the Sidepodcast goodies going on at the moment:
- The old Batracer game (the 1986 version) came to its conclusion with Steven Roy as champion. Now it looks as though a new game is starting with the current set of cars - 2009. If you're interested in taking part, head on over to the wiki to peruse which team you fancy joining. Places are filling up fast, so get in while you can. Joining instructions are also on the wiki.
- You may have seen Mr C getting all excited about the fact that he got his photo published in yet another magazine, this time the less geeky F1 Racing. To celebrate such goings on, Alex from SofaF1 set up a page called Me and Page 22. What we want is everyone who has access to a copy of the magazine, particularly page 22, to take a picture of themselves with said page. You can read more about it over there, but please do it, because every new picture makes Mr C's day.
- Finally, we've got a guest post from Journeyer about his experiences at the Malaysian Grand Prix coming up shortly. Please keep your eyes peeled for it, because we love eyewitness accounts!
That'll do for now. Keep the comments coming, and don't forget to take a picture of yourself and page 22, if you can. I will see you in the comments.
That's a lot of page22 plugtasticness!
I also have another plan, just wait :)
Oooh I likes the sound of that!!!!
Hey guys,
Because I am leaving for the UK tomorrow and may only have sporadic Sidepodaccess, can I ask if we have agreed on a meeting place for the the Sidepodscience meetup?
Does James Allen read sidepodcast?
We sshould also have a gathering of page 22's on the 15th, a mass page 22 photo shoot. I'll be taking my copy.
Joe Saward on Mclaren being hauled before the stewards
I can't wait for the next aside with Joe! This man gives some really good arguments on what is happening in F1 at the moment. I suspect he thinks the FIA is anti-Mclaren but can't say it aloud, however...)
I quite like Joe Montiego on the Red Bulletin I do.
Ralf has taken over from Nikki Lauda on RTL TV as well. Suddenly, the BBC's decision to employ EJ seems much better.
Are you kidding? Niki Lauda is the best part of RTL coverage! How can you justify replacing an expert and 3-time WDC with a useless driver who only got by on a famous surname?
I was under the impression it's only temporary whilst Lauda recovers from a hip replacement?
A hip operation throws a spanner in the works!
Yeah it is. Dank just pulled a GMM on us ...)
With Ferrari as constructor champions, with only one win all season :D
Right, with my useless internet connection I've finally managed to join BATracer. Now to work out how this game works.
You click loads of buttons, wait, and then get taken out of the race randomly while your team mate wins ...)
Ahh so trying to be like Heikki will be easy ;)
Bring on Medals for Constructors... :P
Thats literally exactly what happened with me in the 1986 game, my team mate being the esteemed Mr. Roy!
:D
This bit is interesting - I don’t believe that Dennis was involved [in the Mosley scandal] for one minute. Why? Because on the day the story broke Dennis rang me at home and was genuinely perplexed and wanted to know if I had any idea who might be behind it. Not the act of the perpetrator, is it?
Dont know if this has been mentioned before, but apparently Sebastien Bourdais is known by some in the paddock as "Sea Bass".
I wonder if that has anything to do with the character of Sea Bass in the movie Dumb and Dumber.... :P
yeah, he's known by that name around here too
morning all
There should be!
Considering our car was the fourth or fifth fastest it was a nice suprise :D
not by us he isn't.
on that subject, has anybody read any articles on the bbc from ted since he took up his new position?
what happened to his paddock notebook, because without it there is no TEDnews!
I haven't seen one but TBH I don't really look at the BBC F1 site.
And good morning BTW :-)
I find with the BBC website once it disappears off the home page it's almost impossible to find.
Which is a shame because the BBC website is one of the only sites thats not blocked at my work and I spend most of the day on it.
not called it on a regular basis but if someone said seabass we'd know who they meant
they'd probably get docked a point for their troubles though.
hehe true
I hope you get someone with experience at BATracer so you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of the game.
I think John Hindhaugh called him that while he was commentating on Sebring. :)
Looks to me like he's there to do interviews and video reports and not much else.
I'm already having fun testing, and failing miserably to find spot on values! I don't care if I lose every race, I like it already :)
:(
It seems that if it puts down F1 in anyway, Hindy will say it :-(
Both Ted and Lee are massively underused!
Very much so
James Allen news?
Doesn't have the same ring to it...
Yeah, particularly with the video coverage. They need an archive page or two... After all, it's all on the site, it's just a pain to find.
Maybe it just needs better organisation, it's a bit all over the place at the moment. The ITV-F1 site is a much better example (apart from the Godawful pop-unders and roll-overs)...
It annoys me that all the videos are geolocked ... even the interviews! The football ones aren't!
I definitely think they need permanent links to archives. It took me ages to find all the different F1 blogs because there is no indication they exist unless they have been recently updated, and even then they're only on the homepage for a day or so.
ooh I just discovered a replay of the race on tv. How random for 8pm on a Wednesday. 14 laps in though, so it's almost over :D
That's probably more down to Bernie's Licence Agreement...
Lee's there to, er, what does she actually do that Kravtiz doesn't during a race? I get the impression that she sits having a coffee until the race has finished and sticks a microphone under any immediate driver's nose and ask them the rudimentary, asked a thousand times before, questions.
I mean, have we heard from a single driver who has retired this season? Least Goodman had the balls (oh er missus!) to get a few sound bites from them shortly afterwards.
You should have seen Lee do the A1GP coverage. She was practically the Anchor... good stuff.
this year the fia mandate that drivers must talk to lee (and others) post race, and still she struggles?
The 5Live team seems to be able to interview a few people though?
Vastly underused on the BBC it seems then. I'm disappointed by her involvement thus far.
What I was thinking. Surely if Holly Samos is able to question a driver after retiring for example, the BBC TV feed could use it also? I do think the BBC take too many people to each race, but that's another story!
blog post / guest blog post?
Oh crumbs, an offer I can't refuse! On the BBC coverage in general?
It would be good to get an opinion that isn't just we HEART the BBC :)
entirely up to you. i'm interested in why you think they're over staffed (because i do too, but possibly for different reasons), but by all means take whatever angle that suits ya and cover anything on your mind.
Are you kidding? Niki Lauda is the best part of RTL coverage! How can you justify replacing an expert and 3-time WDC with a useless driver who only got by on a famous surname?
I was under the impression it’s only temporary whilst Lauda recovers from a hip replacement?
Yeah it is. Dank just pulled a GMM on us …) {Comment #12}
Possibly because the thought of having Ralf doing TV journalism even once makes the mind boggle. How did he do (assuming anyone on Sidepodcast saw Ralf on RTL)?
hehehe. that too :)
I noticed on their live text updates that BBC Sport's Sarah Holt is at all the races as well. Is she there for any reason other than these live updates considering they use updates from all the TV and radio folk as well? I definitely agree that they send too many people to the races.
I mean, have we heard from a single driver who has retired this season? {Comment #44}
I'm pretty sure she spoke to Kovalainen during both races, but then she did have plenty of time to find him on both occasions. Of course, it's also possible that the drivers who retire are dragging their heels about fulfilling the media obligation, in which case Lee's opposite numbers at other stations will have the same problem.
Max is talking to Parliament at the moment on BBC Parliament right now if you want to listen...
Still? I'm watching it now and its Mayor's Question Time
Whoops...Sorry I was on a delay... http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00jqjl2/Select_Committees_Press_Standards/
iPlayer? Live? Same thing :P
However, John Whittingdale (my MP) is on, he does make me laugh
a rather fantastic post from journeyer:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/04/08/a-view-of-sepang/
go read now!
Thank you! :)
ErghErghErghErghErghErghErghErghErghErgh
Max said he's been doing it for 45 years, but this is the first time he got caught :( eww
im there !
*boik*
That thats a thought to make you sick...
Part of me thinks that it shouldnt have been broadcast because it is invading his privacy...however, he blames the newspapers for the effect it had on his family, that effect is his fault. He's lied to his wife and children for however many years, thats the bit thats completely wrong, he should just admit its his responsibility
He did very well.
Versus Niki though?
I love it how RTL use Christian Danner as an 'expert' - that's kinda like having Mark Blundell I reckon ...)
Based on whatever I saw of him at Sepang, he looked OK - didn't appear to be too nervous. I think his frankness on certain things will help him in this job.
Exactly! He's been lying to his family for 45 years, yet he can pass judgement on others? Double-standards. I really hope the rumours of Ara Vatanen (sp.?) running for FIA President are true. I just find Max too two-faced, hypocritical, out-of-touch and slimy...
... but apart from that... he's, um, done a lot for safety?
Eh-hem, may I just point out the first item on this list:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/The+un-mentionables
I prefer him to Niki.
Why?
Hey guys, nice to see the BAT game is filling up nicely. 16 places already! :D We just need a Renault, Force India and both Toro Rossos and then we have a full grid :)
yeah, he's good at his job (ish) but i think we need some new blood in the FIA, however, it looks doubtful that he'll step down in october....
whoopsadoodle
:)
Danner never was really successful in F1 was he? Neither was Blundell...
Ironically, that is blocked by my work's firewall...
Sincere apologies if I violated a rule...
Christines not a fan of talking about Max's unmensionables
Hehe. Not a problem. It reads:
Let's use this page to list the stuff that can't be mentioned in the live comments. For example:
* Max Mosley doing unmentionable things
etc.
It's not a rule per se, no worries. :) Just remember for next time. :D
A couple of sites are now reporting that Ron Dennis' role as CEO of the McLaren Group could be danger because of the latest lie-gate.
*sigh*
He's no longer formally involved in the F1 team and they are still saying it's his fault.
The unmentionables are unmentionable ...)
I don't know how they can say that!!! He wasnt even there!!
Touchée
He owns the thing, and he could be in danger?! Martin is in danger; Ron is not.
Hiya everyone, what a lovely day :)
Outside? what?! sun!?
Feeling better now, I see? :) Lots of comments to catch up on. ;)
I can't wait for the hearing to be over and done with so all the speculation will stop. So much opinion is being reported as fact.
Please, please, please. Don't just stick "gate" on the end of things... It's awful. "Watergate" was named after "The Watergate Hotel". It had nothing to do with some kind of "water" scandal...
Call it the "Lying to The Stewards Scandal", "McLiars", whatever, but Lie-gate, Button-gate, Spy-gate are all lazy journalism...
gate-gate?
I guess the -gate suffix has just stuck. It's the easiest way to point out that something's a scandal.
He was in Australia though.
Yup.
It won't stop though. People will continue to say that there is more to it than that - just like the spying case.
:D
Touché...
Catching up on them now. Today is a good day, I remmeber everything I've doen so far ;)
I'm having that problem too. It's a shame because for a site with such a rich library of media through photos and video it's all so badly organized in accessing such stuff.
The best one I ever heard was "Bathgate-gate"!
Afternoon chaps, I've had three hours of maths so tell me something good has happend in that time.
My post is out? ;)
Ms.Christine, but where's the 'malaysia post-race pc' in dropio?
i just like the episode!
I was just listening to the latest debrief on itunes....suddenly the sound gets very laggy and wierd....then my computer shuts itself down....
Sidepodconspiracy....
Scott's guide on the wiki may help you figure out what it's all about :)
erm sorry no i haven't. when i do you'll be the first to know ;)
they didn't last week. Holly wasn't even there!
Five Live managed to use a few of Ted's interviews last race... but that was because they had no pitlane reporter.
oh and hi :)
Hey everyone... i posted a comment using ye olde comments and it got moderated so i will say hi here as well.
G'Day Lou.
afternoon :D
Hello! :)
Y'alreet lou
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
For starting the last Podcast with the quote of the day: "Felipe, baby, stay cool!"
I'm trying to work out how to make that into a ringtone...
Take the quote and layer it over The Chain. That would be sweet.
*dances around happily*
Just found out some exciting Dr Who news. Mega spoilers though so I shalln't go posting...
If it helps you there is an MP3 of it on drop.io :D
You better not.
Digest is here: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/digest84-mp3
Debrief is here: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/debrief101-mp3
Hope that helps :)
If you do, you may find yourself Exterminated.
Poor, I know.
*tuts* :P
I'd feel horrible for saying them and spoiling it for others so I'm not going to go spouting them out at all, no worries about that.
Gimme a minute. ;)
Theres an advert floating about, tis on the Doctor Who site, looks like its a good'n
Just hope i'm back in time!!
One or two things about the 2009 carset on BAT which make it a bit different from 2008:
- KERS is intergrated in this carset and on the race strategy page there is a option to fit KERS to your car. But it comes at the possible cost of your reliability. Running it does increase the chance of suffering a mechanical failure but on the plus side it aids overtaking non-KERS cars.
- How long your first stint is in the race now does affect your pace in Q3. So either run light at the risk of pitting early, or go heavy, start lower down in the top 10 but bypass others on track while they pit.
There are still more features to be added to the 2009 carset, what they are I don't know. This is technically still a WIP carset but it has the basic features for players to use it properly :)
Now that I have a team mate, apologies to them for the fact I don't know what I'm doing.
You'll soon get used to it quite quickly probably :) I had Jackie as a teammate last time out and it was her first time yet halfway through the season she'd won a race :D
I've now worked out how setup works, but this was after I'd finished my practice so I've only got two spot on values. On practice times I'm sitting in 9th, just out of the points ;)
You can win easily, in the 08 one we did, BMW were, poor, I was Sato-esque and still managed to win.
Ah, it sounded better in my head... http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/f1-ringtone-mp3 ;)
Hey, it's not bad. If anything though, Chain needs to be louder so it sounds like a ringtone rather than just talking.
Ladies and Gents....Jon Waldock needs you! (big pointy uncle sam esq finger!)
If i want to Live Comment away from a computer....what do i need? Some people say they have various ipods etc and i'm a little bit confused....if its a phone, how much is the internet per minute etc? i'm on an o2 pay as you go if that helps??
All input welcome :)
ta
Audacity here i come!!
iPod Touch or iPhone should do it. It would be ideal if there were wifi where you are, so that you have minimal to no cost in live commenting.
But if need be, iPhone should be able to provide a GPRS-level connection, or something similar. Normal rates apply.
Just a word of caution - Live Commenting tends to drain the battery very quickly, since it periodically connects to check the latest comments. :)
At least you've got a team mate ;) I'm currently the only one a Renault and it's my first time. I'm getting the hang of it though. Only got to 13th from practice, but it looks pretty fun and I'm sure I'll get better.
i posted a link earlier but it was moderated. Scott's Batracer guide on the wiki is pretty good :)
you say that... but i have great trouble getting my ipod touch working on pubic unsecured wifi... it always loads a webpage asking for a password :(
I actually laughed out loud at this tweet from @fakefelipemassa
No, I am still wearing the original visor! I cannot see anything! Please help! I haven't been able to eat for three days!
hahahahah...
oh that's got me in the giggles now.
That's probably because it HAS a password. Some unsecured networks aren't really unsecured - it's just that it asks for the password only when you start trying to surf.
Where's fakerobsmedley when you need him, eh? :P
I lolled.
so lets say im at a race track....how do i live comment from there?
:D
Somebody is making all the drivers fake Twitter accounts?? haha!
I also just noticed the bio for @fakealonso
Bio I have huge eyebrows.
I love the fake driver twitters, I think as more of them emerge the conversations between them will get funnier as well.
you'll either have to hope there's a free wifi network there (unlikely) or do it via a mobile's GPRS/Internet connection.
Oh dear!
http://twitter.com/fakemaxmosley
Oh dear indeed...
If you've got an iPhone on an O2 contract, the internet download fees are free (included in your base tariff)...
Don't know about pay-as-you-go though...
Ditto!
It used to be called Affair by the by.
Then affair has become synonymous with cheating on your partner I suppose because it can be part of such things. But I still prefer affair it sounds much nicer.
It would be the "The Lying Affair".
I remember saying Espionage Saga quite a lot. I don't know how correct that usage is.
According to the ad I have seen a thousand times tonight, we are now "onto China, where a podium beckons for a flying Webber"
Sometimes I think it would be nice to have no/more Australian drivers in the field so local media would stop pinning all their hopes on one person.
Gate is probably the most overused suffix around imo. Two recent cases that have popped up in the news here in Oz over the last year or so were "Iguanagate" and "Gelatogate." I mean seriously, come one guys. In comparison, Spygate sounds pretty good actually.
You'd think they'd have learnt to set their hopes too high by now wouldn't you? ;)
McLaren only team to use Melbourne engines in Malaysia apparently
http://formula-1.updatesport.com/news/article/1239007092/formula_one/F1headlines/McLaren-used-Melbourne-engines-/view.html
(Yes, I know it's GMM.)
See? Much better.. original thinking... (ish)
I like Saga, because that one did go on and on...
ACtually, thank you Amy. You've just reminded me that I have uni work to be doing. I've just started learning Spanish, and we have to write a 200 word biography of our favourite sportsman. I honestly think I'd have forgotten to do that.
Hi all, just having a quick browse on my lunch break. Have I missed much today (other than journeyers excelent article of course)?
Oh, and is the quiz on tonight?
Not much, I think. Thanks for the compliment. ;)
yes, I think so. Might join this week. :D
Kimi believes the diffuser row will decide the championship, and it also sheds light on why Ferrari were looking to retire his car in Malaysia had there been a restart.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74353
But thinking about it, if they're all declared legal, then all the teams will be fitting them to their cars and the everything should close up even more and possibly change the form book once again.
Also, Brundle was talking about Toyota's "triple diffuser" on his gridwalk, but I've not seen any pictures of it on Autosport or the like. Can anyone find a pic at all?
i'm gonna come last :(
I haven't seen yet, probably because of the 31 Toyota employees standing in front of it :P
Good, that means I won't.... again :(
That was hilarious :D
Not necessarily. As Joe Saward and Fernando Alonso said, it's not as easy as slapping on a diffuser to the car's rear. The part is critical to the whole car, so it'll take the chasing pack a significant amount of time to make these adjustments. I've given them a provisional deadline of Silverstone. If they can't be on the pace by then, then they should kiss their 2009 title dreams goodbye.
Also thought I'd point out we're just under 1000 comment away from breaking the big 250,000 :D
Except it's not really, of course.
Even so - that fast?! Wow - just, wow.
i'd forgotten about that... i'll try and join in again :D
Good point. Montezemolo said it was going to cost Ferrari $20m and a complete redesign of the car to implement such a diffuser. But surely all the other teams don't have that kind of money to blow on just one part of the car, do they, specially with a recession?
No, it's really not. Current comment count stands at just over 172k.
what??
not even 170k yet is it?
No, it's really not.
Should we revert to that count then? :)
thats the same mistake i made, word press says its alot bigger number than it actually is
We always were on that count!
We were?? Oh well... ;)
oh, that figure? it's an arbitrary integer. it has no bearing on nothing.
i do notice that steven is just 90 comments shy of hitting 3,000 in 30 days though!
Typically waspish thoughts from Darren H on that subject in his blog this week...
Wind him up again!!
Heidfeld is the latest driver to be quizzed in F1.com's Ask the Expert :D
http://www.formula1.com/news/interviews/2009/4/9160.html
he's going to beat me comment wise this year isn't he?
Strikes me as an arbitrary and exaggerated figure. But, yes – the diffuser is moulded in to the floor as a piece, so new diffuser = new floor.
Still a long way to go yet.
i think generally everyone is commenting more than they were last year
where were you with this info when i needed you the other week? :)
I've improved on my record of about 3 or 4 so I'm happy.
Must have missed the Batsignal...
It's amazing, when you see an F1 car in bits, how much it resembles a Tamiya kit (of an F1 car, that is, not a tank or a Spitfire or something).
must.change.the.bulb.
I used to race Radio Controlled Touring Cars at national level, its scary just how similar they are to real cars in terms of suspension and in terms of setup. Taught me all i know about car setup
Hey Steven! I propose we bring back all driver aids and add as many wings as possible! Let's bring back grooved tyres and run the cars on KERS only.
Oh, and Jim Clark was average!
(Will that do? ;-) )
Have you heard about RCracing.tv? It's on Facebook as well and it's presented by Nick Daman (The old pit reporter from Sky Sports and currently part of Midweek Motorsport... )
Yep, have watched it from the beginning
Hehehe.
:D
Peugeot are big meanies.
http://iheartfranck.com/2009/04/08/no-spa-for-franck/
BTW - live commenting from the train. It's a bit full today because everyone's going home for Easter (we are off tomorrow in Denmark).
My God, I had to move seats three times and I'm literally at the end of the train. I hope I get to keep my seat!
Nigel Mansell was my favourite driver of all time.
Lol McLaren. Screeeeeeewed.
I think it's probably right that Lucas Di Grassi isn't in F1 this year ;)
Pitpass is the best F1 site on the web.
Ah nuts, I quoted the wrong comment earlier. Boo.
This gag has gone too far now...
I think Lewis Hamilton may have been the first person to have ever lied in F1
:D
:D
I feel bad saying that!
I think we need this on Sidepodcast...
Paul di Resta is overrated...
That's who I meant when I said Lucas di Grassi... Whoops
Oi, he is not.
Oh yeah, I think we all know the FIA ain't biased towards Ferrari
Perhaps trying to wind me up at the same time? Two for one, kinda thing. :)
I think the FIA do a pretty good job!
Luke get food
that alan donnelly is sound as a pound.
Hmmm.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7988001.stm
:D :D
you couldn't make it up.
maybe sitting outside trying to use wireless isnt a good idea...whenever the wind blows, the signal goes.... :(
How strange :( I've been in my back garden for a while now enjoying the weather with some wind with no problems
I'm off, night everyone.
dumb question of the day. just looking through the f1 vacancies (as you do), and i didn't know STR had a factory in bicester?
this role states:
"Scuderia Toro Rosso S.p.A. is now looking for motivated people to fit within its F1 Aerodynamic staff in Bicester (UK)."
that's a heck of a typo if they really mean faenza italy?
see ya sean.
that's where Red Bull's windtunnel is. I assume that with the same base design, RBR and STR can share the windtunnel.
ahhh, of course. are they not meant to be moving further apart this year? was assuming the roles were part of the separation, rather than further collaboration?
but you don't hear about STR getting a new windtunnel, do you? also, with a budget cap era coming, Red Bull would be very smart to spread out the work and work around the cap. ;)
fantasy racers update...
Jenson is now ridiculously expensive (so pleased he was my first choice)... he is now 13.30m which was actually the original price of Hamilton.
Rubens is a little cheaper at 10.20m though..
Red Bull panels on the early shift, STR on the late shift :)
Ohhh how the tide has turned :D
Well, they have two windtunnels – one in Bedford as well as the one in Bicester. One is full size, although I can't remember which. The Bedford one is ancient – it was built for aircraft – but has been refurbed.
The recent dictat about wind tunnel usage has been a bit of a pain for teams with two tunnels...
You sell him and then rebuy him. Could make yourself an extra 2 million if you wanted. :P
If Bedford was made for aircraft, then surely it can fit a full-scale F1 car? I think it is Bedford, having read about it in F1 Racing a few years back...
Probably not full sized aircraft though, that'd be some wind tunnel
It would still have been a scale model of the plane or its components – the science of aerodynamics was in its infancy in the 1950s, as evinced by the number of planes that went up with fundamental aero flaws.
There's no way I'm getting rid of Jenson or Rubens from my team. Well, maybe Rubens seeing as he's not quite on the same form as Jenson.
I live in Bicester and can safely say if there's a wind tunnel in the town it's hidden very well! There's a little bit of motorsports industry in the town (Arrowstar) but I doubt very much there's a full size windtunnel up here. There's the airfield possibly but it's a 1930's place that only houses gliders now.
I'm thinking of renaming my team, 'I can't bloomin afford Brawn'
You should have believed in them in the first place :D
Nothing wrong with either of them atm ;)
I had to remove them from my team that is based solely on P2 results. I know I won't afford them again if they get good times in China so that team tactic I think has failed me. As have 3 of the other 4. Only my diffuser-loophole team that still has them both is doing any good.
They didn't even exist when I picked my team
Shoulda woulda coulda :P
Confused about KERS
I have read that Kubica feels KERS gives drivers a significant advantage.
http://www.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3213_5162402,00.html
The results so far this season do not seem to confirm this with only Alonso, Heidfeld and Hamilton picking up points. Even the points scored were mostly due to luck and attrition of drivers ahead. A quarter of the cars are using KERS but they have only scored one-sixth of the points.
So far can we believe that KERS has been faster?
Was Alonso's good start at Malaysia related to KERS
How much modification does it need to install a KERS in an F1 car?
Will KERS-equipped cars be quicker in China?
I think if your considering getting rid of Rubens then you need your head checking :P
He's got a P2 and P5, flipping good bet if you ask me, his price is only going to go up for the next few races!
Anyone feeling spendy...
I have also dropped Rubens - which is a pity because I cannot now afford him. But I do have my other favourite teams in like a Toyota, A BMW Sauber and Red Bull.
Do the words "Jenson Button is English too" mean nothing to them!?
Clearly they are quite confused. They call him fellow Brit just the sentence before.
I need Nakajima to drop in price by 0.2 because he is missing from my diffuser team. Someone else has all 6 and I don't know how they managed it because that combination of drivers has never come in at under 40 mil.
and spell it jensen?
I am sure Lewis' car will be competitive by then. Personally I would still like to see Jenson win at Silverstone.
haha, niceee
so do the Australian Grand Prix Corporation. I think that is really bad form.
Is it me, or does "God save the queen" sound so much better when Buttons standing on the top step?
Some people really do type with their eyes shut and their brain out of gear, don't they?
lots of people do *sigh* it's really not the most difficult name to spell :/
I also tried at the start to get all six diffuser drivers in but have never been able to make it so gave up on that strategy. It is a good one though.
I'd happily contribute to an article on the BBC coverage, how do I get involved?
I just re-read my letter, at the bottom it says to send them feedback on how to improve their event. I might tell them to spell their reigning winners name right :D
It can easily enough be gotten wrong if you're not aware. Like Steven/Stephen.
At least they didn't call him Dennis!
:D
:D
WTF?
Czech Republic's football manager has been sacked and 6 players banned. The captain is one of them and has announced his retirement.
Major shot in the foot for the Czech team, though it's unlikely they'll make the World Cup anyway.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/internationals/7990168.stm
Hi Amy
Are we gonna kick some on Batracer?
So they banned them for visiting a restraunt?
Just don't drive anywhere near me, I'm unpredictable.
I may need to borrow your set up, I didn't know what I was doing in practice!
According to 606, the players had funtime with ladies of the night. Dang. That's them definately not making South Africa. At least Northern Ireland might......oh wait, how silly of me to think such a thing!
That begins to make more sense
go for it! I've got kool tools so it should hopefully be visible (setup) to you, if not drop me a line and i'll change the settings so you can see. Your first attempts at setup were good! I managed to find some spot on sweet spots using your setup. I got within 0.8s of the best time on hard tyres but crashed while going for glory on softs. I think we won't be that bad in the McLarens this season!
You my friend have just guaranteed you're my position target!!
I'm intreguied about this Batracer thing, i've watched you lot talk about it for ages, is there any space left for 1 more? I feel i need this in my life :P
I might still do Batracer if there's a few spaces left. My mouse is barely usable, so if you could wait another 24 hours or so, then I'll probably join.
Good news for Northern Ireland!
Might be one of those establishments that doubles as a knocking shop. There was one of them in Teddington, too, apparently (although I only ever ate there – was never shown 'the other menu').
I just realised (World Cup related). The 8 best 2nd placed teams in European qualifying make it to the qualifers, leaving the 9th to go home. Republic Of Ireland are 8th best from the 8 teams, they could be put into 9th easily enough......oh ****. I hate this system with the 8 best teams, confusing.
LOL.
gets me every time
Absolutely! Seats left at Toro Rosso, Force India and Renault - http://batracer.com/-cj?&D&39028
Password is Jenson.
It still amazes me with BATracer that we had Toyota full, Red Bull full, Brawn full etc and yet McLaren and Ferrari had no takers for a while. It just goes to show how much F1 has been shaken up this season. :)
That said anyone can win on BATracer...
On the subject of football my football fan friend tells me that while watching the Arsenal match against... some Spanish team last night the Spanish fans were making monkey signs at one of the Arsenal players.
Considering last time I had the annoying habit of crashing at the wrong time, I wouldn't do that.
Your a star, thanks. I've joined Renault, forgive me whoever my team mate is, i'm going to be about as good as piquet
Racism is still a horrible presence in spanish sport it seems. Constantly you see spanish venues making horrible gestures to players and chants of a racist nature and of course in F1 we've had that thing with the fans dressed up saying they were lewis' family. It's disgusting that noone seems to do anything about these kind of things :/
Spain really need to sort that out...
I've just checked the championship, Dom's leading it :)
especially considering Rafa Nadal has very monkey-like features ;)
How long does it take to get the confirmation email through after you've signed up to a team?
Yeah, its been going on for years, England suffered from that problem not so long ago and its something Spain has a bad habit for. I'm amazed with the intensity that they do it sometimes, like the Hamilton situation or in football, or probs any sport for that matter that the governing body hasn't taken charge and said no, you've done that too many times, your out. They get off too lightly in those situations
heh :) BATracer won't be that nice to me for long...
I think racism has been dealt with well concerning English football compared to how it ahs been in the past. That said you still get really pathetic chants at times but there has been quite a lot of mainstream appeals to kick racism out of football and there's definitely a greater deal of respect about the whole thing, a lot more people are aware of how unecessary it is and how sport doesn't need it, let alone any manner of life need such a horrible way of treating people. It's a shame reading things like this in Spain once again because it's just not acceptable and yet no-one seems to be bothered as you say to do anything, just a slap on the wrist maybe.
www.bbc.co.uk/f1 takes you to the same page as the mile long url that they use
that's what I have bookmarked, but it doesn't help with the content once I'm there
Agreed. If the fines aren't working, something more needs to be done. It's making the Spanish FA look very bad.
Max always talks about the effect on his wife. They have lived in different countries for decades. McLaren are getting hauled over the coals for lying and Max is at it again.
It makes football as a whole look bad, outsiders won't care about all the hard work that has been put in like 'Kick Racism Out of Football', and focus on the times it has happend recently. FIFA need to look at the policy, as you say, its not working, kick em out. It may not make them happy, but its sure gonna put a stamp on it and say, hey, this is what happens when you do that. I doubt they would do it again.
Utter Bull. He owns 15% of the shares. His mate Mansour Ojjeh owns 15% but has a pact never to vote against Ron. Mumtalakat (ish) own 30% and also have a pact not to vote against Ron so how can his position be challenged.
How did he do (assuming anyone on Sidepodcast saw Ralf on RTL)?
He did very well. {Comment #68}
That's good - both for RTL viewers and for Ralf himself (obviously I can't comment on any Ralf/Lauda comparisons as I've heard neither in full flow in that role). Maybe Ralf missed his true calling all these years.
Nope - you drive past it if you take a (very) roundabout route to the shopping 'village' thingy. Its well hidden though - just a tiny logo on a sign on a *big* fence with lots of other companies little logos on it.....
To quote what woman from father ted...
Go onnnn, go on go on go on! :D
Glad you're here! I can now meet Mrs C in the pub without being delayed writing a post on broadly similar lines.
heheh :)
:D
I'm currently sorting out my setup for my first test.....i guess this is how Mr Brawn felt last month ;)
Though you probably have more cash! ;)
I remember saying Espionage Saga quite a lot. I don’t know how correct that usage is. {Comment #147}
I used to call that the Ferrari/McLaren mess and then the McLaren/Renault mess (and sometimes still do). So presumably this would be the McLaren/Toyota/stewards mess.
Seems that Jaguar had facilities there as well... I'm just hunting for a postcode (there is a *long* list of possibles...)
sidepodmixer news... the "other" alesis io26 made its way back to us today... still broken!
just for the record dolphin music are a waste of space.
ahh, i feel better for that. guess we'll be posting it back to them in the morrow then. on the plus side the headphones have been restitched and look lovely.
rofl - just 'emerged' that the recruitment consultant with responsibility is listed amoungst the friends of a friend on facebook.. same surname, wonder if a relative... how much beer could be offered.....
I dunno. Brawn, McLaren and Renault are fully taken. Now left with 2 teams that I have no particular fondness or dislike for. Maybe.
Good point. Montezemolo said it was going to cost Ferrari $20m and a complete redesign of the car to implement such a diffuser. But surely all the other teams don’t have that kind of money to blow on just one part of the car, do they, specially with a recession? {Comment #166}
I bet Ferrari would be putting more than just a new diffuser on during that redesign...
*makes a note to stay away from Dolphin Music*
Never had to have headphones restiched. Must be a quality thing. :P Sennheiser HD580's and HD650's
Am too calm and relaxed to be wound up.
I think we should go down there with a hammer.
I got stiffed by Sennheiser "cans" :-(
:D
Good plan
Rubber or sledge?
Or a blowtorch.
Can we bring the good ol pitchforks?
Oooh, yes.
I've finished all my runs and posted a message telling my team mate im done (like it says in the Batracer guide)..what do i do now?
You sure about that? ;)
:D
Hide faced would do the trick nicely with a satisfying swing
Depends on whether the intended target is human or mechanical, surely?
Peugeot are big meanies. {Commnet #194}
That's a pity. It's great when F1 drivers get to do extracurricular stuff and it doesn't help when manufacturers decide to adjust their plan of attack on Le Mans :(
:D
that alan donnelly is sound as a pound. {Comment #212}
Bernie is as pound as a sound...
I did think of short selling a driver straight after a bad race to re-buy him later in the week at a lower price.
Yep, I got messed around badly by them buying a guitar from them (ES-335 for all you guitar players). I'm up for some mindless vandalism lol
On a totally seperate note I did a Single Seater experience at Silverstone straight after qualifying on Saturday. Got some cool pics and would like to offer doing an article on going, I lived the dream of an F1 driver (well for 37 laps at least!).
Got second fastest time of the day and beat convincingly a police officer who in the briefing said they'd done all the aggressive/pursuit driving courses etc.
ahhh, of course. are they not meant to be moving further apart this year? was assuming the roles were part of the separation, rather than further collaboration? {Comment #222}
Red Bull have two wind tunnels but they're only allowed to use one this year. Makes sense for them to give the worse one to Squadra Toro Rosso, whose wind tunnel is tiny and not really up to the specification of other teams (and also cheaper to decommision), rather than face the expense of decommisioning it (since this climate does not encourage buyers of such large facilities).
ack! am literally writing something along those lines this evening (although not about myself). lemmie finish and then we can compare notes.
oooooh sounds interesting :)
That never happens. Much
and spell it jensen?
so do the Australian Grand Prix Corporation. I think that is really bad form. {Comment #250}
In 2003, the British GP programme mentioned some bloke called "Freddy Alonso" was capable of winning a race. Must have been Fernando's brother or something...
Cool, it was a fantastic day, would thoroughly recommend it, want me to jot down what I did?
Coming!
3am, I'd better hit the sack. Night all!
Wow! your hardcore, goodnight!
Night Amy. :)
Czech Republic’s football manager has been sacked and 6 players banned. The captain is one of them and has announced his retirement.
Major shot in the foot for the Czech team {Comment #261}
That is a disaster for them! Sacking half a team is never a happy situation, even if the reasoning behind it is rock-solid. They're going to need to do a lot of work very quickly to rebuild that team, now that it's been demolished.
Speaking of racism what ever happened to Max's Racing against Racism intiative. It seemed to sink from sight immediately.
G'night Amy.
Was thinking about that earlier, it was just a spare of the moment thing, really was rubbish
Glad to have been of help

Flying the flag for Sidepodcast on Planet F1
http://www.everyrace.net/
Sagas are ancient Viking/Icelandic stories if that helps.
please do, and forward to christine. ta.
You rock.
Aww, thank you :)
37 laps is a lot for a first run
Anyone seen the itunes store? they've put some songs up to 99p, im outraged to compensate for cutting prices on some newer ones!! but the songs i want are all old!!!
SO.ANNOYED!
that's very cool rcc. i don't have a pf1 login, but if you fancy answering balibari's question. maurice and ian phillips can now be heard at http://cast.forceindiaf1.com/
For some reason Mo wasn't in this week's podcast though :-(
Id it me or is that face morphing thing somewhat unnerving...?
Try buying the CD's instead and then ripping them. it's somethign like £8 for most albums on iTunes, I normally pick up the CD's for much less than that.
ahh, haven't listened yet. was he even in malaysia? didn't hear him on 5live.
Don't worry, it's not just you. ;)
ah yes, but i only want individual songs
*gets card out to buy tickets...*
Spinal Tap doing a one night only world tour! :D
By the way, have you noticed that F1 Racing's "thanks" section exhibits some Tremayning this month? Made me chuckle when I finally noticed it.
this is a fun game watching the pf1 thread :)
correction though rcc, sidepodcast appeared several months the before formula1blog podcast. it makes no difference either way, but seeing as you're commenting on both sites i may as well point it out.
i like live commenting the updating of a forum thread...
That's where he's gone, yeah i'll let him know about Maurice Hamilton.
Shall do
Yeah I was quite lucky to get that amount in, the bloke scared everyone stiff in the briefing about crashing off so nobody drove like an idiot and kept pace well behind the safety car until we were set free to burn rubber.
Perfect sunny skies on Sat so track temp was really warm allowing everyone to really push the cars.
Hello all.
Three spots left on the BAT racer grid. Two Toro Rossos and one Force India slots left. Who wants to be plotting around the back with me?
Indeed it is, doesn't one of the F1B hosts come here sometimes?
I shall amend! thanks for the correction...
Any reason why Bourdais Christine? (ps I think he's pretty cool and my g/f thinks he's in need of constant hugs).
I'd strongly suggest someone gets that Force India space first so Dan at least has a team mate
she saw him crying at spa too eh?
Speaking of racism what ever happened to Max’s Racing against Racism intiative. It seemed to sink from sight immediately. {Comment #344}
He's concentrating on getting the rallying brigade involved - they're on the front page of the FIA site at the moment.
Mmm, no reason really. I'm not as bothered about him as I used to be, either.
not now you have jake...
Really? What has brought that on?
:)
I can't be sure, but I think it's called being fickle.
Well F1 fans are supposed to be fickle I guess... I can't wait until tomorrow night as I will be at my Uncle's house - the most one-eyed and biased Ferrari supporter on the planet!
She nearly cried when she saw him like that!!
Cool cool

just in case the comment passes you by.
So it has gone from being a racism program to anti-doping, pro environment etc. Nice to see tolerance mentioned there. I wonder who put that in. It's not something Max would have used.
I launched a poll earlier on PF1 about who's most embarrassed Macca fans or Ferrari fans.
http://forum.planet-f1.com/index.php?t=msg&th=74830&start=0&
Not if he's 'post trawling' he won't ...)
I'd get involved but BAT racer isn't letting me log in currently. What's the league info?
it went into moderation (because all comments on older posts do). probably wouldn't have seen it.
Speaking of which, did you notice all the spam on the dropio this morning?

They've given in to the record labels demands for tiered pricing in order to go DRM free on everything
yeah. we clean it out when we get chance. just ignore, we've raised it with the developers.
Cheers. As soon as I can log in I'll join. I was gonna go for Torro Rosso but I'll be a team player and join the Force.
Thanks for that. It is a while since I checked back for comments on those posts. Must spend some time on the next batch soon.
That appeared late last night. Also sidepodcast died at stupid o'clock this morning
It's cool that people have liked your article so much they make nice comments like that. It shows how well you wrote the article Steven.
Yeah! I think we might score points before they will.
Yeah! I think we might score points before the real Force India does.
Scott D's just pointed this out on twitter but it looks like Renault have themselves a TV channel thing...
they have a section for f1 videos too :)
Just applied for 2 batches of 4 tickets for the Renault World Series event at Silverstone on 5th July. :D
Well we can't get much worse! Have you played BAT Racer much before?
Donnington or Silverstone?
mmm, mediatemple issues, but for once they were on it and responded straight away (tweeted before i even sent in support request).
i wish we could move away from them, but no other host will deal with the amount of content we have for anything like the prices mt charge :(
are both Force Indias taken?
I'm going for the second seat as soon as I can log in.
Fair enough. I might go with Toro Rosso. Well, it's either that or nothing.
Well Dan and Joe, which one of you has most experience with BAT?
Are you going to change your name to Seb Joe or Seb Joe or The Seb? Isn't that required to be Toro Rosso driver?
Yeah, but I think experience has nothing to do with it. I think it is 50% blind luck and 50% moving slider thingys around.
Fair point! Well which one of you would mind (possibly) having no team mate the least?
I'd have no problem having you as a team-mate. I've played many times before, but I don't think experience counts for much.
Me and you Torro Rosso then?
Any more specific? I might have a goosey-ganders...
Does the sign say 'Universal Exports' on it? ...)
Isn't that a bit of a stupid question? :P Which do you think?
Brands Hatch FTW...
Torro Rosso are on the grid :D
Before I head home for the night:
Just heard on Twitter that McLaren have asked to be present at the Diffuser Appeal hearing...
... Does that guarantee the appeal will be rejected and the "Diffuser Trio" will be cleared?
;-)
I can't be right now... think I may just have to take another trip and try and find them again.... All I know is that I tried to find my way through town to avoid the ring road route (which is Looonnnnnggggg compared to the potential) and got caught having turned left somewhere that I should probably have turned right. It was only after I found the 'right' way, that I realised why the sign had seemed rather familar looking (red face).
Looking at the sat. pictures on google maps, I *think* that I was amoungst the industrial stuff to the right of the picture... but I could be (probably am) wrong.
Lol - no that's the Army place just to the north. Was simply called the 'Supply division' until recently, but it now has a fancy new 'MOD logistics' type name. I used to send envelopes to there once-upon-a-job and talk to a chap about bits of planes and the springs for them and how long they would take to arrive (and try and get answers as to why he didn't want them from stock now and would rather wait 6-8 weeks to get them). He wasn't an interesting chat, unlike the other chap from portsmouth (his navy equivalent) who could gossip about the bodyart of naval divers with equinimity.
Universal Logistics, btw, would be the building to the north of MK, that is rumoured to also have a very very big bunker underneath it and be the real reason that MK exists....
:D
So what time is the quiz?
I was about to ask exactly that. I ask every week and I never remember.
I've actually planned my evening tonight to leave some free time to take part in it for the very first time.
I have a prediction. I'm last.
8.30 pm 'ish
Jolly time .. tis a bit like Sidepodtime
Yay, that means I won't be! I still can't believe how badly I did last week.
Cool :D
Wouldn't mind a go at it this week. How do I play?
It's best if you register on site and then you can join in the chat .. but if you dont want to do that you can just jot down the answers and email Jolly with them at the end
Is it just me or is Sidepodcast.com doing weird things?
I'm in Doohickey which is fine (looks slightly different to normal, but fine). The main site has no style sheet or columns.
I will get some food and then register :-)
I'm also in doohickey .. not I have to go look
Magic :D
Looks fine for me in Firefox, someone else mentioned that earlier, try a refresh
Looks fine for me as well in Firefox
all seems good to me too.
Working again now after a restart?
I've joined the batracer game now with Chris at Toro Rosso. :P
Working. :D
I love it when friends come back from America. They bring me double filled Oreo's :D
*nom*
Woo, go team!
It's still trying to load for me
Looks perfect
Both spc & drop.io take a while to load quite often for me
We now have only 1 seat to fill! :)
I think we can safely say it won't take two weeks this time. ;)
Is there still room for one more in the BATracer? I've never played, but everyone talking about it is getting me all excited.
Yup, 1 Force India seat.
Yup, we have one seat at Force India left:
http://batracer.com/-cj?&D&39028
Password: Jenson
Ctrl-F5 in FF3, still no change
And we have a full grid. :)
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/BATRacer+:+2009+Teams+and+Drivers
I'd like to take this time to apologize to Dan. This could be bad.
yaaaaaaay!!
Just wondering the sessions are gonna be at ten past 8 in the morning...
Will restart FF completely
It's largely luck. Mostly bad on my part, I've had more retirements than finishes in my short career.
I thought that page looked rather dull so I decided to jazz it up a bit, will add graphics after the quiz
And I'm a very unlucky individual.
Welcome to my world then, I'll see you in the paddock for an ice cream!
6 times I retired in the 08 carset, all 6 was because I crashed. Plus one when I was leading with 10 laps to go. That sucked.
Excellent, I'm buying, what'll you have? I'm sticking with a Cornetto.
Apologies if it's been mentioned but where can I find the quiz?
I've got the soccernet text commentary on while I'm watching the football and all they are talking about is John Terry's hair and Rafa Benitez's goatee.
What the...?
Sounds good. :)
pitlane fanatic, under the quiz
Good choice, we should have been team mates!
I've found it now, thanks anyways :)
All Oreo's gone. :(
They're like Jaffa Cakes - I just can't leave an open packet.
http://www.pitlanefanatic.com/chat.php
You have to register with the site first so go and register straight away and then go to chat.
That was not a good time for my keyboard batteries to die :-)
Registered, on way in.
On the SPC problem: Restarted FF to no effect, restarted PC to no effect, will work it out after quiz.
Whatever is making SPC funny for me is making PLF very slow for me..
sounds like it might be you :)
*headbangs*
I got bored, so there is the final page.
And nobody better change.
This annoys me.
new blog post:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/04/08/so-you-want-to-be-a-racing-driver/
So, I've finished practice, now where's the button to file my diffuser appeal?
:D
Any more for the quiz?
Danish TV have pillaged the MOTD football graphics! The thieving B*******!
I'm having real trouble getting Pitlane Fanatic to respond.
seems ok to me. can you load any part of the site?
None at all. Firefox gives a 'Page Load Error'
Don't worry about it I'll try another tmii.
time!
It is pretty busy tonight.
It seems fine to me Pat I'll see if Mav can help
FF has been doing this a lot for me lately...
Try opera/safari/ie?
There are a whole load of people in the chat and the conversation is going on so everything seems to be OK with their site.
Have you tried just http://www.pitlanefanatic.com/
That's damned annoying on your first time there :(
I was there very briefly then it stopped loading new comments. What's frustrating me is I can't think what's wrong. I did try the main URL.
Am trying IE7 (shudder)
The annoying thing is I've been to the main site before with no problem at all! I was there at the weekend!
The comment refresh thing seems to work better when people comment .. if there are few comments it can seem to slow down
IE says no. "Cannot Display Webpage"
Time to play with the router I think.
Oh dear
If you look at the coloured box next to your name it tells you how often you are commenting. If you comment a lot it stays green and ath the bottom of the screen it will tell you it is re-loading every five seconds. Comment less and it re-freshes less often for you
My computer decided to reboot itself at 8:30, and now I'm having the same problem getting on to pitlane fanatic.
I dont know what to suggest .. site says 25 people are there
Is that the whole site or have you only tried chat
Also, sidepodcast has lost all formatting and the doohickey is dodgy.
ok, what ISP are you on?
Has the internet exploded or something? Everything seems fine for me.
Aha, same symptoms as myself on both sites.
same question to pat.
A few people have commented on that
BT
The doohicky is working fine for me....
I've lost the signal on my TV too!
Yeah it works perfectly, it just looks slightly different
are you with BT dom?
Yep, BT. Has been working fine all day.
there's packet loss via qwest, but otherwise the internet is stable:
http://internetpulse.com/
I'm just getting SpyBot S&D and the download is stupidly slow. Either that's related or I'm getting it on a slow server.
Working fine for me too. Desktop doohickey. But I have seen a few comments including one from Ollie that there is some problem
ok, looks like BT is the culprit. i google for more info. brb.
Just off to check BT's own service status
I have an idea for a competition for those with an F1 game on either computer or console. A lap time competition. If we had the same game it would help, but if not, then we can still have a go, though you can't really compare times with different games. Sound good? I have each game from 1997 to 2006, though my 98 and 2001 don't work.
BT have had several fibre cables cut - due to an incompetent tunneller cutting though the pipe...
that'll be it then :(
I'm not so sure now re-reading this
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/04/08/bt_hole_hits_vodafone/
But if they are connecting to here presumably BT's problem should not matter
Not that it helps, but the questions will be put up on site later if you want to have a go. What I dont understand is how you can both comment here but not PF
Ahh thanks, that would explain it.
I did find the service status, it says the faults are in London which is nowhere near here but I imagine it must have something to do with it.
they are only connecting to half of sidepodcast. the css files and images are on a server in dublin, the main site is on a server in california.
looks like they have packet loss to the dublin server.
Can you guys see the chat even though you can't log in?
The only F1 game I currently have is rFactor on PC. I've got GRID and RacePro on 360 though.
I can't even see the site.
we can relay question live here?
I can only comment on the desktop doohickey, not from the site.
I'm on the web doohickey with no problems.
okay I'll do that
.. keep a note in notepad and email answers to [email protected]
we'll copy the q's here for you.
bt have x3 issues right now: http://bit.ly/bt_status
I wouldn't worry about it. I'll have a go when they are published (as I've done for the last few weeks!) and I'll try again in a fortnight ('cos next week I'm in London!)
Chris, got XBL?
Q1 1985: Which driver crossed the finish line of the 1985 Italian Grand Prix first?
Cool thanks!
2 1986: How many pole positions did Senna secure during the 1986 season?
I sold Race Pro today :( Still got grid though, absolutely adore grid.
Q3 The 1987 WDC was decided during the practice session for the Suzuka. Why?
Q4 1988: At the Detroit GP senna took his sixth consecutive pole, equalling a record set by Moss and which other driver?
Q5. 1989: At Estori, Mansel was fined $50,000 and given a one race ban. Why?
ok these are actually quite hard :-)
Should be posting them more slowly now that you have the backlogged questions
Hey everyone - catching up on the quiz. Thanks, Jackie!
Q6. 1990: Who did Senna deliberately crash into at the 1990 Japanese Grand Prix?
You are welcome Journeyer .. thanks for the excellent review of Malaysia :D
Q7 1991: Which future WDC made their debut at the 1991 Italian Grand Prix?
Q8 1992: At which Grand Prix did Nigel Mansell secure the 1992 WDC?
Q7 was wrong .. this is the corrected one.
1991: Which future WDC made their debut at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix?
Q9 1993: Name the Grand Prix where Senna went from 5th to 1st place in the opening lap.
Q10 1994: Who won the 1994 WCC?
Things look promising. SPC loaded properly but slowly. Trying Pitlane..
fingers crossed
Q11 1995 Where did Williams enjoy their only one-two of the season?
Ok, have rebooted, internet seems to be working fine.
Now I have to find out why the TVs have no signal!
Pat just made it in to the quiz
get in there dom, there's still time.
Okay I'm in. Thanks Jackie for the reposts :-)
Anyone else need 'em?
What about Ollie?
have dented him... awaiting response.
scrub that. all is well :)
Where are you?
I know south Devon's analogue was switched off.
Brighton. That could be it.
My freeview box broke yesterday, so all I have is analogue!
fab timing!
Hope it's fixed soon
just to distract r.g.
look timo: http://www.f1bigpicture.com/
*Faints
Shouldn't think so unless you got BBC Spotlight instead of whatever your local one is.
Welcome to my world!
That is a fantastic picture.
I'm not a Toymota fan, but I'd love a huge version of that printed for my playroom wall.
The TVs are now turning themselves off... this is weird!
Its with those FIA HD cams on the cars, they are awesome. Would be great if there is a bigger one for a wallpaper
remind us after the quiz, but i'm not sure the one we have is much bigger.
Okay. Will do.
I need 1920x1200 or 2304x1440 - much bigger. :(
have you had Q16 yet? last updated I have is 21:29
the only reason I ask is because it won't me say anything in the chat any more
Comment, the less you chat the slower it updates. Should load up with em
disregard, it just woke up :-)
Q: 16 1999 At which circuit did Schumacher break his leg?
17 2000 In 2000 Schumacher secured Ferrari’s first WDC in how many years?
It's still there. :P
That's great! Thank you for doing that so quickly!
thx, it seems to be updating but not letting me comment very often
I don't see your name on the list Pat. May be worth going out and logging in again
Righto
That worked, thanks
btw Christine, today's big picture is amazing. I like the picture very much :D
It is a good one :)
Wow, one I can answer!
i think i did a bit better this week.
me too. that's not saying much though!
I think I didn't. I liked the last 5 questions
I'm honestly saying now I'll be surprsed if I got more than 6 and I genuinely mean that.
I think I did OK but I am too tired to do the Spot the difference thing :-(
now the quiz is done I've reloaded the doohickey and looks normal again
yay for BT. it helps to have a website split across two continents i feel. even if its entirely unintentional.
Oh yeah, SPC and F1M are loading fine now. :)
It had numbers down the left side and everything!
I restarted and everything was fine afterwards.
That was just confusing...
Doesn't that mess with the datestamps?
nope.
oops, didn't mean to post that quickly. it doesn't mess with timestamps because images are in Ireland and database is in the US.
Nice.
ideally, everything would be in dublin. but not for a while yet.
Hoping for a score in the 20's from that.
Finally got all the spot the differences though! :D
Does that mean the site would only go down on the 17th March?
absolutely. although it would be sluggish on the 18th too.
:)
Only teams not attending the appeal on the 14th are Force India and Toro Rosso. :D
I suppose STR could ask through Red Bull and Force India through McLaren
I week from now I'll be on the way home from the Science Museum!
Most likely - still in the pub.
Bah. I can't come. :(
You can always talk with me and Steven.
Have any plans other than the date and location been made yet btw?
1pm or so in the cafe downstairs somewhere.
No idea about afterwards, the rest of the museum would take a while and I want to look at the spacey bit because I missed that when I was there in the summer.
I'm up for the space bit and the plane bit...
Shame the dismantled spitfire was removed - that was fantastic.
Coolio. What sort of time are people getting into London? I'm supposed to get to St Pancras at 11.19.
Just realised, I haven't done a picture of me and page 22 yet. Thankfully, I'm off somewere tomorrow, where I can get a unique picture. Plus, I've got the drop.io app for iPhone, so I can upload it straight after taking!
Checking train times now.
about then i think.
Me neither - on the throne perhaps? ;)
Oooh, didn't know there was one. To the app store!
How convenient.
It's called droppler. It's something like £1.19 and sidepodcast's drop.io feed is too big for it to handle! meandpage22 still works though
Any time between 12 and 1. I ought to sort tickets really.
I'm getting into waterloo at 11:13.
we bought it the day it came out, but are holding back on promoting it until the api gets updated and the app can handle spc drop :)
In that case I'll stick to the Twitter app for uploading photos for now.
if you'll just be on your way home... i'll be going home much earlier then everyone else then.
you can email them to the drop from your phone for free: [email protected]
Does the developer know about the problem?
lol as long as there are clear signs to the cafe :)
Only because I have a mammoth journey home. Leave Victoria coach station at 7.00 and get home at something after midnight.
oh yes. and i think a few other devs are using spc drop as a test site, because it's one of the biggest public ones out there.
Now that is useful.
Wow a week away... I'm really excited for next week :D
that's cool.
ooh ouch. that is a lot of travelling.
My turn to get jealous now, eh? ;)
I'd have a similar journey time by train which is why I'm doing it Thursday.
So am I. My trip starts early tomorrow :-D
yup, London to Huddersfield on one coach. Not so bad on the way there though cause it's half way on a train.
i'm pretty lucky it's just a short tube ride and then just over an hour by train then....
Looks like I can do 11:49.
11.20 at a push but I don't do mornings well, it would mean an 8.20 train and the station is 20 miles away
Just seen the new diary.
Mr C with a big ego? Never.
Quite a funny one is this one!
Speaking of Mr C, did you have the larger version of that image?
http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/visitmuseum/museummap.aspx
click on the food/drink sign and it shows the cafes
Which of those is the one you mean?
Just that, depending on how you enter the museum, any of those could be 'downstairs'....
wow... would meeting outside be better then?...
Haha :)
My journey is 2 hour train from Newport-Paddington at 9am then 15 minute underground at half 11, so I should be there around 12ish so plenty of time :)
Leaving I don't know at all, to be honest I want to stay in London as long as possible!
There's a big lobby area which could be better. Or the shop.
It might be less complicated/confusing for sure..
Damn I thought we'd already decided :-(
I will have very sporadic Internet access until the meet and may not be able to check where to meet...
Does anyone have your number? Email it to me.
Might be best to ask for someone's number who is going who knows what is going on, so if your lost, you can ring
I'm assuming you'll have a working mobile.
do we have your number? if so, we'll ring you/everyone once we're in london. given that it's school holidays, we'll likely all meet in the queue outside.
3 people basically saying the same thing. ;)
hehehe.
I emailed it to Christine the other day and she said she'd got it. Might be best to send me a text if no-one sees me pop in here...
I gave it to Christine but I'll email it to you as well...
It may be worth more than one person having it. The tube has no signal.
lol
probably not outside... too many doors (plus I'm aiming to get to london early enough to have tired out the children already as I'll be down an adult (erk!) due to Andys rota mix up :-(
Can I please just ask *not* the deep blue cafeplacone... its sodding difficult to see there due to the lighting! Plus its table service.
I was kind of assuming it would be the selfservice cafe, but though I should check rofl...
that's fine, if she has it we're all cool. we'll just talk from the morning onwards.
I emailed it to you. Have you received it?
k. so the lobby area is good? i thinks we'll try and get there as early as poss and just be there and ring everyone as and when.
sounds goooooooooood.
I have no idea about the layout but the lobby sounds fine to me. It'll save you guys having to call me and make an international call too ;-)
[email protected]
?
Lobby's good to me!
I've never queued to get into the science museum, not even in the (bleurgh, I usually get to avoid them, lol) school holidays.
Could we not just all agree to carry a copy of pg22?
Yep, thanks
Some say he has an ego so big, no camera could possibly contain his image...
Hope all of you have fun at the tour this weekend. Enjoy all the carbon fiber gizmos.
I was talking to Pat. He can be my sidepodbackup ;-)
:) I was planning to bring my copy anyway.
erk
Maybe I should just wear wings... that should clear some space on the tube rofl
ace, soz.
i'l prolly be bringing mine... just cause i've decided it will made good reading for the train journey :)
Mine will be there :)
Sent it to you anyways ;-)
hehe. actually that might help because i was banking on recognising andy! however, you know what christine and i look like so it'll be fine :)
I'll be looking out for Christine and a Giant Panda ...)
Rolled up copy of F1 Racing
just emailed you my number me.
MrC I'll leave a message on SPC voicemail tomorrow with my number. I want to test my Skype headset. :-)
no!
Hehe.
use it to bash people out the way on the tube ! ;)
ooo I'm getting tired - how long does it take Jolly to count up the scores? I gotta be up in less than 5 hours!
cool. have gavin's a chris'. will check skype tomorrow :)
I've heard that no before!
nope.
LOL. I hope you don't turn up in disguise, Mr. C!
He's done.
If I remember correctly - inside the main entrance is a main gear leg from a Airbus A340 - really big white thing... Would that be any good? It's certainly easy to spot.
Just sent mine as well
perfect. big white thing it is.
I'll be the short person with 3 children in tow (or in tow behind at least one of them - probably DS). Nah, will have to go and review photographs that don't exist... Unless someone wants to wander off to facebook at retrieve my number from the phonebook (yes, I confess, I belong to the SPC group there mumblemumblemumble...)
confirmed squire :)
Trying to find a picture...
you were going to wear it to goodwood ;)
before i knew how damn fluffy it was.
Ok - it's not white - it's grey...
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/n7yu7lvsmRCbGH1d2kH5qA
i can do that ;)
:D
Quiz scores
Oh yes I have!
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/12/15/daily-15th-december-2008/#comment-161732
Did I beat Mr and Mrs C? ;)
no
ah that is big enough to spot... and i suppose the group of people gathering beside it all clutching f1 racing will be another give away :D
They are being announced right now
We're finding out now. ;)
I beat MrC at least...
Or if you are getting into town via Kings Cross, St Pancras or Euston, get the no 10 bus just outside, get off at the Albert hall and walk 2-5 mins down Exhibition road to the science museum.
Morning everyone!
Wooo 18/29 on my debut!!!
Ditto!
Oooooh....
20 points out of 29...
Not happy.
Stop looking at my answers you cheat ;-)
1st win on 2nd attempt. Yay! :D
Enquiry!
Gordon whatits.... that's a *good* score, surely?
Hi Sean
Morning Sean, Night Gavin. :)
Still not happy.
Now going back over the questions and answers
Also using my Autocourse books and Wikipedia now.
Night all, and happy easter if I don't pop in beforehand ;-)
:D
Are you in training for Mastermind?
See ya later gavin
Ayt, back to bed for me... It's a holiday here. Later! ;)
Specalist subject - Red Dwarf *2 days to go.. YAY!*
Night Journeyer. :)
Night Journeyer & Gavin.
Found 3 that I got wrong now....
:(
Count downs in this house as well.
I'm just hoping that its back to the standard of the first few series, and not down where the later ones (after they stopped getting 'on') were......
I quite liked Series 8 though. Rimmer and Lister stuck together in a small bunk room again. Just like the old days.
Series 7 was naff though.
Smeeeeeeeee
Quiz answers and results
Journeyer was this weeks winner :-D - Congratulations
http://www.pitlanefanatic.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=800&p=6049#p6049
Thanks everyone
Was a great and very tough quiz :D
10! Yessssss.
In my opinion, series 1 & 3 are the best, although I agree with Flibster saying that 8 was much better than 7.
very tough - yep sorry guys and girls
(and every question only carried a max of one point this week)
Guess where my name come from? ;)
And yes, I have gone to a fancy dress part in the red and white checked gingham dress, army boots and a small penguin puppet with red led's for eyes. :D
Jean Todt??
Awesome :-)
:D:D:D
Great quiz, amazed I got 18 on the first go.
Just to pre-empt the question..
I will not wear it to the Science Museum. :P
Fair enough. It's not like we'd ever pressure someone into wearing a costume they don't want to...
Awwwww
If I can volunteer wings, someone else can at least wear army boots and/or gingham...
(snark!)
Mr C never said he didn't want to wear the panda suit.
Surely Schumacher made his debut in the 1991 Belgian GP rather than the Italian one?
Btw, site is reacting very slowly, even to me typing my posts.
The question was adjusted to Belgium.
Yes your right - I did change it during the quiz but forgot to update my master list - will do now - sorry
You're forgiven :-P
Thank you :-)
BATracer quali setup all done, im quite excited. Its very addictive :D
Plus im beating my team mate so far, so all is well :D
An interesting point came up in a discussion on Clive's blog. Apparently Max's team were not as squeaky clean as he would like us to think. They cheated a little on occasion. About 8 paragraphs in Robin Herd the Technical Director admits getting his driver pole position by passing his pit board in front of the timing beam and getting him a faster time. I am sure Max will call himself up on charges of bringing the sport into disrepute since he was head of the team and therefore must have known exactly what went on.
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4158/is_20010529/ai_n14384601/
I have a comment on Joe's blog that he must consider too controversial. Dan posted a comment two minutes after mine and there are a few after that and they have all cleared moreation. I do seem to be able to upset people.
That ain't hard mate. ;)
I had a lucky 4th run :D
I have a feeling Christine may like this. Just saw this on Leo. Enter a name like sidepodcast or your own name and check where it is still available. Ideal for anyone starting a business to make sure that they can have accounts everywhere in that name.
http://namechk.com/
oooo Congrats to Luke, he's made the top 5 most talkative people :)
Welcome to the top, once you get up here its hard going back down.
And so it begins... :P
I'm so surprised at that. Seriously... wow.
That looks interesting....
However it shows up some accounts for my business on a couple of sites that i haven't registered up for....this concerns me....
Well done. Considering he has not been commenting professionally for long that is quite something.
Oooh, RG is available in wordpress. Lets see about that then. Btw you were in the wrong place so I'll put it in the daily
(hearts) r.g.
I just realised I didn't put this in the daily thread. Oh Doohickey!
At leas you can check out those accounts now that you know they exist.
hehehe at 'commenting professionally' hehehehe
Whoops, i did it too
*blushes
Just keepin it clean ;)
tis okay, i haven't had time to even look at doohickey fixes. plan to get lots done this weekend.
i think its more to do with our inability to look at where we're posting and typing at the same time ;)
Quick question relating to copyright on pictures.....
If you want to use a picture for your website, can you use it as long as you put the source? Like Mr C's pic was on here, and they put that it came from here. How does that kind of thing work and are there any copyright free motorsport type picture gallery places?
I don't know how you guys do it. 1,500 to 2,000 comments in 30 days? You know that is on average 50 - 66.7 comments a day.
@me: My latest post on my blog was inspired by you and our prevous "Windsor debate."
link please
nope. if it's one of our pics we normally ask for a credit or a link.
mostly you have to pay to use a photograph and give credit. photographs on f1 big picture are a good example of that.
teams will give out a selection of free images, if you apply for permission, it's a bit hit and miss as to the quality though (honda used to be brilliant, force india are mostly awful).
thanking you
also, wikipedia have some pics. the mention of PW by dan just then reminded me that's where we got his piccy from. they're free to use, along with a credit.
Sorry.

With that, I got to take off... literally. I have to go the sauna known as Houston, Texas for a little business.
Adios and have fun at the sidepod-meet-up-thingy.
have safe flight sir.
Indeed, bye Dan
Have, 'fun'!
Have fun Dan
See ya!
Comment in moderation - just pointed out a minor thingy on the About page. I didn't notice you guys actually revised that! And you now have a mission statement and everything... Nice. :D
comment out of moderation. i didn't know we revised the about page either :)
You didn't? Hahahaha! That's just funny. :P
it's good though. i likes it.
and on that note, i'll bid you all goodnight.
Good night, Mr C. :)
Night Mr C
And a night from me, to anyone stiil out there
Good night, RG.
Okay, why did when I post that i went to ye olde comments?
Didn't happen that time, well must be me cracking up, bye
Haha! Bye, RG.
Good morning, Europe! :)
good morning Asia :-)
Wow, you are up late RG .. and I'm up way to early! I need coffee
To anyone still out there, I'm off. See ya.
Have you guys listened to EP2 of ForceCast already? Apparently, Force India took the same gamble on Fisi and Sutil as Ferrari did with Kimi...
well, but Force India guys have nothing to loose :-) actually, same can be said about Ferrari at the moment :-)
Morning all http://drop.io/meandpage22/asset/alianoraandpage22-jpg
Aliaora was the only new me and page 22 entrant yesterday we must be able to rustle up a few more as we approach the weekend!
@ Alex Andronov: - I need to go out and get the copy of the magazine first :-) it gets here a bit later
Same here - did it come out in the April issue?
Yeah the April edition. (Almost wrote addition then - haven't had enough coffee clearly)
That's a very good excuse! :)
This is a bad time for me to be promoting it here as the usual early birds are all in places when it's not readily available.
Of course you aren't early birds from your point of view either!
I was in the quiz last night. ;)
BAT qualifying for Melbourne is done
It's a Red Bull on pole :D But it's not me :(
I put my McLaren in 11th, just like a real one ;)
Or 12th even!
@Alex - did you see my attempt to promote page 22?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8Exe-0bmpA
Daily post is up:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/04/09/daily-9th-april-2009/
I didn't woo-hoo!
