Hey everybody. And for once, the following post isn't going to be an original daily post, I'm tired and basically out of ideas. Lovely.
So, what is in the news? Well, in F1 terms, it looks like Christian Klien still wants to be a part of the Hispania set up for this season. Of course Klien drove three races for them last season, not setting the world alight but far better than anyone else at the team who raced that season. And frankly thats it, which is hardly surprising for a Sunday. Times like this I hate doing dailies on a Monday.
So, lets drift into other motorsports, ooh WRC, lets talk about that. Sebastian 'Oggi' Ogier was leading (that means happy RG), but he crashed out, handing the win to a certain Mr. Loeb (which makes a sad RG). I would pretend to know about this, but I don't.
NASCAR, people drove around a bit, few people crashed, someone won, lots of adverts and yellow flags. I think.
Football, I know about this. And in a game featuring two of the greatest and successful teams in England, Wolves scored in the last five minutes to earn a 3-3 draw against Tottenham in one of the games of the season. Do watch the highlights, all three of Spurs' goals are worthy of a place on Match of the Day's Goal of the Month competition (but not a competition any more). Oh and some Liverpool side beat Man Utd 3-1. The best place for footballers in England is County Durham (in your face you southerners, unless your not from dan saaf, in that case, I'm not laughing at you at all, sorry for wasting your time). But how about this in Argentina, where a referee sent off 36 people, yes, 36.
Cricket, I'm trying to be interested in this because it is a World Cup (and I suggested it in my 5 'Sports to watch in 2011'). England continued their belief in 'make every game exciting', by securing a stunning victory over South Africa. England batted first and scored 171 (which is low), but managed to get South Africa all out for 165 (which is lower) to win. There was even some excitement on my part on it, which I haven't experienced in the sport since I scored my first ever runs (and my only ones) several years ago.
Lets see who has been doing what then, well apart from my 'Just How Biased is the BBC?' series I've proposed, Lukeh has been at his Photoshop again and of course Mr Giggles has returned! Hooray. His Audio Biography starts at the year 1980, which was of course the year that saw Tottenham finish 14th in the old First Division.
Finally, a little short tribute to a fine footballer and person, Mr. Dean Richards, who tragically died at the young age of 36. He played for Bradford City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Southampton and Tottenham. The tribute at the game between Wolves and Spurs was immaculate, with special shirts produced which will be auctioned to raise money for charity.

RIP Deano.
aww, still love your daily rg.
a-mazing.
Hello Monday
But how about this in Argentina, where a referee sent off 36 people, yes, 36.
Quite some achievement considering two sides normally field a total of 22 people at a time...
Referee Damian Rubino's post-match report stated that he sent off all players, substitutes, coaches and technical staff at the game after fans joined the fighting on the pitch.
Well, yes... ...usually the technical staff manage not to do anything to get themselves sent off, even if everyone else grabs the idiot ball...
Not literally, obviously.
I added a little bit onto my blog, so...ping. :)

For the Apple fans at Sidepodcast, a little joke :)
In honour of Giggles Radio today at work the soundtrack is the Best of ELO :D
One BIG domain unregistered image on the post.
Or as I'd like to call it, an iced frog. :D

Yes, it's the Mail, but it's an interesting article (assuming it wasn't taken out of context):
Jenson Button: I'll quit Formula One if I become a father... it's not worth the risk
It's a bit similar to what DC did, but I'm a bit surprised here. Many other drivers have no issue having kids while continuing to pursue their career. Still, it's a decision I totally respect.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89768
Buemi and Alguersuari say Ricciardo isn't a threat.
Does anyone get the feeling that the only reason both drivers are still there is because they're so equal, STR doesn't know who to fire? They could keep this up forever as long as they make sure they stay even on points.
They keep doing that, they'll both get fired in exchange for Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne. And we all know STR won't hesitate to fire their drivers...
... I can't wait to see how good their 2011 car really is ... if the car is at the lower end of the midfield as it was in last 2 seasons the team would probably gain more than they would lose by making one driver change after few races.
if however the new car starts collecting points on regular bases with both drivers contributing they may not want to risk a change and may stick with the same line up for the rest of the year. that is what I would do (without knowing any background and contractual stories)
grrr why is it still 27 degrees outside, I want to go running :(
Morning :)
Jeez, can you imagine what would have happened if Mark Clattenburg had ref'd that game?
'Tato Head will be gone by Hungary I reckon.
Hmm. Well he has already won the world championship, I suppose...
I Love the Ferrari Horse Whisperer blog! http://www.ferrari.com/English/Formula1/News/Headlines/Pages/110304_F1_The_Horse_Whisperer_The_name_changes_but_not_the_sense.aspx
I'd like to quote from it, but the whole thing is brilliantly funny. Well done Ferrari :D
morning everyone
I absolutely love this quote:
Me too!
By the way, they couldn't call the car 'Italia' as the 458 shares the name, so they would have been stuck there too...
it got down to 26 and the sun went away so I went running anyway. Definitely no runners high today, I feel like I just took 10 years off my life.
Hot runs are so much harder!
exactly, I heat up enough by myself, I do not need external factors making me even more tomatoey in the face!
I am looking forward to going into winter and buying some cute long sleeved running tops :)
There is an advantage to hot runs over cold runs though - less warming up required!
I joined the gym on Saturday (which has a pool too) but I'm thinking how I am going to fit in running and gym when I cycle too. I still feel a bit knackered after cycling but I am getting better!
I love swimming but I hate swimming in public pools. I really need to work on getting myself into an apartment complex with a pool in it. That or steal my friends friend who has one at her house :)
I prefer swimming in the sea, but right now I think that might be a bad idea if I tried that ;)
speaking of exercise, new running ping :D http://amysrunning.posterous.com/week-4-day-2
By the way, my new Raleigh Falcon is ace. Going to do a bit of sprucing up on it, but it rides really well, but it's so much lighter than my previous bike. I thought I was going to be blown off it in Saturday!!
:)
I love that you had Milo to perk you up afterwards!
They don't sell it here but I brought some home from T&T - I gave it to a Venezuelan and a Canadian for the first time the other day (made with warm milk) and they quite enjoyed it!
I wanted something cold but sweet, and that was the only thing in the house that fit the bill :)
It's 'Malt Milo' and comes in a brown can instead of a green one. I only bought it to see how it differed from the usual chocolate malt milo and to be honest I can't taste the difference, although I guess I probably could if you gave me a mug of each at the same time.
Mr Horner must be so excited to read this :-) :
http://twitter.com/AussieGrit/statuses/44697479614173184
that must be one immense insurance policy...
I refuse to believe anyone can do that in one day
Who is more Ironman, Jenson Button or Mark Webber?
...with Rosberg a distant 3rd (again)
on second thought those numbers don't make much sense, do they ? checking the calendar, no, it is not April 1 today ...
As always!
Wow - makes Schumacher seem like a total wuss. Back in the day, he used to be the fitness buff of the grid...
And when he started his career he used to admire Senna's fitness - I remember this because in a column in 1993 he tried to imply that Senna was becoming old and tired...
It's a matter of drivers continuously raising the bar. First Senna, then Schumacher, then Webber. But I wonder if the teams think there's such a thing as too much of a fitness buff...
I can't go into it too much now (am in work), but I also believe it to be one of the many reasons why overtaking is so difficult now. The fitter drivers have much higher rates of concentration, that sees them produce less mistakes.
(an this is not getting into the fact they are much better prepared now than ever before)
*And yes, this will all be elaborated upon in a SPC guest post soon.
That's a very interesting theory right there.
Ooooh, can't wait.
It has to be a joke - that's not physically possible :-)
Morning peoples.
Morning
How's life post decoration? :)
Much prettier.
Although it still smells of paint.
morning christine / bassano
Much like the Queen's world :)
Hi Leigh
Morning guys, and I greet you with a Brian Cox related PING
http://toata.wordpress.com/2011/03/07/165-trillion-trillion-trillion-trillion-trillion/
Bah, wordpress isn;t playing ball with the formatting so it just looks like a wall of text. How annoying.
Wordpress is being a bit weird since they had that ddos attack.
It's "Fastelavn" here in Denmark today and we had a cake to celebrate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnival_in_Denmark
Nobody got flogged though!
Have sorted it out but the HTML was really inconsistent when I looked at it which is really bizarre.
:)
I agree. Also the fact that the cars are so computerised leaves little room for error.
W00t!
I don't get it?
Finally read through RG's daily, fab stuff mr Rg sir. Still such a huge shame about Dean Richards though :( thought yesterday's tribute was excellent.
Can I also quickly just say that the F1 at the cinema link is directed towards RG's blog? It's an alternative way to view it sure... :)
It is indeed. What made him so sick?
if the queen came to visit, you'd tidy up. right? or re-paint a little.
I see. And probably freak out a lot!
The Queen did visit my upstairs neighbour, albeit when he was in hospital...
:0
The Danish Queen, I should add!
Probably give the floor a hoover. Maybe dust off the TV I suppose
And put the bloody kettle on!
seeing as you offered. white, no sugar. ta.
Would she settle for tetleys?
After lou has introduced me to/blown my mind to smithereens with how many teas there are out there!
Earl Grey with Lemon?
Tetleys with a chocolate rich tea.
(no choking involved)
As long as you don't offer her fish with bones in it you should be ok with that ;)
would be a good party trick though.
Ooh. My brother in laws nickname is teabag because his surname is Tetley. His car for many years was a brown ford Telstar ghia which is the most wet teabag looking car ever!
TELSTAR!!! Our first ever car in NZ (and boy did my Dad hate it!)
He even had custom teabag number plates that his pilot buddies bought him :)
That is quite awesome :D
Morning all. I think that Webber tweet you were discussing earlier is a joke based on how drivers like Button are always tweeting the precise (large) amounts of exercise they've done.
Well, either that or he's got the powers of a Marvel character...
It was the nicest car I'd ever driven on my L plates with it's auto rotating aircon vents
Depends which one it was - the last generation was OK but my Dad had a Mk.II which was from the mid 80's!
Hiya kate. They make a fair point. I've walked 22 stairs today.
Downstairs to get orange juice, back upstairs with orange juice. Phew.
Hi guys
I've had 2 TX5's and I loved them! I had the auto vents too. Def best feature on the car :) Very oversteery car though
Oversteery front wheel drive?
It was mid 80s! Top of the range though...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/aussiefordadverts/5145191226/
Hmm?
My Dad's was understeery!
Due to poor driving on my learners maybe? :)
haha, great ad
Seems to be a lot of confusion between Klien and Liuzzi over who will get the HRT drive: http://speedmagazine.net/2011/03/07/liuzzi-nothing-is-done-everything-is-open/
Or is Colin Kolles playing them off against each other?
I SO used to want one of them. Even test drove a couple
Oh sweet lord!
Come into the corner way too fast, possibly even with throttle on, then jump off the gas or tap the brakes. Works with WRXs too - don't let anyone tell you that they're boring because you can't get the tail out :)
You can take the boy out of the rally car.............
Somebody once told me that if you put the clutch in that would work too, but I never tried it!
That works with rear wheel drive
I would have no idea. But I have found out that because I have to retake my driving test here, I have to do some wet-weather handling lessons!
You're so lucky :P
Skid pan! Woooooooo!
Yeah I know! I cannot wait!
Cool!
I have asked if that means an epically long "CHAMPAAAAAAGNE!" ;)
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89775
Force India's case will now be heard in the English High Court during the week commencing 16 January 2012, with the team taking action against Team Lotus' parent organisation 1Malaysia, technical director Mike Gascoyne, and Aerolab.
That's, like, so far in the future, I can't even comprehend it :)
If I stay in the www.spacehotel.com.au on wed, thur and Friday night of the Aus GP, come home on Saturday night and watch the race at home on Sunday, I could probably do the whole trip down from Sydney for about $900.
I want to go but don't want to spend the money :(
Decisions, decisions...
Just do it. You'll never know when the next opportunity will be.
I'm still paying off all the holidays I went to but I wouldn't exchange the experiences for all the money in the world!
I might try and sue Lotus too I think, they stole that shade of green I quite like
You won't get it heard until 2020 though!
Last year was the best time of my life :)
So will I. I was not happy with their toilet paper last time I bought it!
I need a planner. AMY!!!
ahoy.
I have never regretted going to a grand prix. Always lots of fun to be had :)
#badinfluence
Anywho, am off to bed. Bye all.
:D
:)
night Pamela. I should probably do the same but I just had a 2 hour post run nap. oops.
Night pamela
you'll never guess what my next secret plan for Pamela and I is.
Afternoon everyone...
Am loving this wikipedia article today on Phantom Mobile Phone rings...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_rings
I love that another name for them is: fauxcellarm
What an excellent pun :)
I get that all the time!!
Fantastic pun too.

"Broadband is becoming one of the most, if not the most, important considerations for prospective buyers." - hopefully it'll be classed as a utility soon.
Excellent!
It's almost at the stage where it's a basic human need, if that's what you mean by a utility...
would like it to be covered by the same laws as gas/electric/water.
Should be interesting to see how the media companies would try to get a bite of that particular cherry
britishgas-broadband?
well, if content is being transmitted, someone is going to want to get paid eventually
i don't mind paying. i don't like the risk that if someone digs up the phone cables near you BT don't actually have to fix it. as far i can tell, ever. normally they do of course.
aye - i wouldn't mind paying either, but same concerns
also: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/pc-dinner-replaces-the-tv-dinner-2234245.html
Sixty per cent of Britons have eaten their main evening meal while sitting at their computer, a survey has found.
only 60? that's 40pc of people who might miss a comment while eating!
That is madness. I even take the internet with me while I'm cooking.
bad maths!
Only 60% have at least once... But I bet 100% have eaten a main evening meal not at a computer...
Almost 100% might miss a comment while eating!
oh no!
It's scary stuff!

Pack your boxes again Mr C. I think you will be moving again.
You are moving again
We're always moving. If we're not moving, we're unpacking from moving, and if we're not unpacking from moving, we're packing up to move.
I think the latter - Colin never let a bargain pass him by since he came to the paddock...
Ever consider staying put for a while?
Glad I'm not after a High Court decision - sounds like they're a tad busy...
Including me, apparently...
All the time.
Ooh this is interesting:
I think I would choose Petrov over Trulli as well :)
Trulli = always moaning
Petrov = happy just to be there
But it's also that he's switched from one Lotus to another, so to speak. Very close until the start of the season as well...
Openreach should be split off like Transco
I suspect also that Petrov will be around for a few seasons more than Trulli...
Do Chief Engineers follow their drivers around in F1 as much as they do in NASCAR?
Aye, I like young Vitaly. He's like the second cousin removed that I never had
The Senna Movie UK site has been launched: http://www.sennamovie.co.uk/
They've started. Pre-season fidgets.
I got them the other day...
Turns out NASCAR ain't enough. :) :)
I like this as a slogan for F1.
:)
F1: Where even the thickest people know they don't race in pickup trucks?
I sense a Friday Fun here...
For the first time ever I'm thinking of taking a day off just to watch free practices, even if I timeshift them to 10am or something. Australia's just adding an extra layer isn't it.
my advice would be don't watch every free practice over the season. I found that last year the more F1 action I saw before the race, the less enjoyable I found the races.
Agreed, I only ever usually watch Australia and a few others, and never Saturday morning.

Hi folks
I need your creativity, sidepodpeeps. I am starting a blog to connect my students with an English class in the Czech Republic, and we need a name. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Hello again
Excuse my foul mood but my Cahier - 50's Stirling Moss photograph arrived in the post today in a damp and battered envelope.
Not a 'Do Not Bend' label in site, no stiff packaging
Value on the postage label says $4.00
I need to calm down before someone gets an email later on
:( :( :(
On the blog the plan is to share social customs, talk about history, pop culture, music, language, and whatever else, if that helps.
'Czech Mates' too corny?
hehe! I love that and will put it on the list. No ideas too corny, this is just brainstorming.
Excuse the imagery but it looks like a dog has used it instead of a lamp post. Small mercy that they didn't try to squeeze the 16" wide envelope through the letterbox
idiots
Howdy, y'all!
Just dropped in to say hi.
Watched some ALS on the weekend. Why can't F1 race at some of those tracks! Brilliant! Laguna Seca? Connecticut? Road America?
Anyway, I have hired some help so I will be able to goof off at work more from now on.
Cheers!
Eyeteaguy
Can you send it back, as is and ask for a replacement mailed properly?
I can't imagine how a respected professional photographer can expect to get away with this
That just sucks
I'm all for it. But I think they're too small. Lime Rock is tiny and even ALMS cars can't really use it.
I may just do that. I took photographs of the unopened envelope. Part of the cardboard has stuck to the photo when it was previously wet, I don't know how damaged it is yet. I had to walk away from it
Problem with Laguna Seca is it's far too narrow. It would instantly be compared to Hungary
Maybe it came from the Czech Republic mailing things to customers agency? ;)
I was thinking along the lines of 'Pulling Back The Curtain' but I guess the whole Eastern European cliche might be best left in the past
Good thoughts, though...and this is a name that the Czech classroom will have, too, so something both groups of kids will vibe with...and maybe something about connection, friendship, cultural exchange, learning...words/concepts like that...hm.
Ah, sorry Lukeh, all fixed now.
Hi people.
Yo
Hey RG
I'm doing nothing today but I'm contemplating whether to email in private or to tweet in public.
I'm favouring the former first, unless I get a less than satifactory response
Sounds good. Maybe the photographer left the mailing up to an intern who totally screwed it up and would be mortified to find out how you received the package. Gives him a chance to make it right first....and if that doesn't work, Twitter to the rescue.
The envelope was specifically for the size I ordered. It's about 16" x 20"
When your customer is paying nearly a hundred bucks for a product, the intern or whoever needs to handle with care. No excuses, it's just sloppy practice.
Exactly. I agree. They messed up and need to fix it.
Hello all.
I'm coming up to renewing my anti-virus protection and wondered what other people have. I currently use Spyware Doctor from PC Tools which is fine. I don't know whether the free ones are ok. A few opinions would be helpful (NB Buy Apple is not helpful ;)). Thanks
I've emailed my photographer pal to see how he mails similar pics and I'll contact them later in the week.
Moving on
Good idea
AVG, without a doubt
I used to use it and I know lots of savvy pc people who still do. Event he free version is good
By the way, I'm home today because of massive rainfall yesterday and flooding on area roads.
Personally, I foing McAffee to be a big resource hog and Norton is a bugger to erase from your system
Have heard good things about Kaspersky too
You're just itching to be featured on CNN aren't you.
"Town experiences 12 kinds of weather in 6 days"
I've had Norton before and it is appallingly hard to get rid of.
hehe! SO funny, 'cause we were just on the local news for washed out roads!
Yesterday it was 55F/10C, now it's 28F/-2C today.
I've got Microsoft Security Essentials which is free and does a good job. I've also got Advanced SystemCare which checks spyware and also cleans the registry which is sometimes forgotten by these things
Four seasons in one day ?
Is there any kind of weather you go to work in?
I wouldn't leave it too long, do it tomorrow if not now. People can get funny about "why did you leave it until now?"
Here at 5am, I was scraping ice from my car.
At lunch time I walked to a meeting in the next hangar and had to take my coat off outside in the sun. T-shirt weather
Crazy world
no. We don't work. :)
:D
For real, though, families were evacuated from flooded areas and buses can't get to areas of town, access roads are flooded.
Doesn't sound good
Adaware and another free one, it'll come to me
Tomorrow, I need a clear head
Spybot, I remember too
I think you should get an e-mail straight out to them now. All you need to say is the packing was not up to standard and the pic is damaged. Add a few photos and leave it to them to come back to you. In situations like this you need to report the problem fast
I had no idea it was that bad out there until I saw us on the news with pavement all torn up after water washed out the road underneath it. I was very surprised school was called off today, but if we can't get the kids and vehicles are floating, then I guess they had to.
Thanks Bassano & Pat. Lots of things to look at. Much appreciated. :)
Did you guys upset some biblical dude recently? Give them back their stuff, whatever it was. Is Indiana Jones hiding in your twon perchance?
Spybot worked great for me
I used to use those but I found Spybot's background scanner was very resource hungry.
:)
I think I used to use that and adaware every few days to clean cookies and stuff. Never constantly running in the background
#sidepodspace
It hasn't been my week for space stuff. First I missed the launch of the USAF's top secret X-37B mission and today I missed the shuttle separating from the ISS and doing the flyaround.
Hopefully tonight's skies will be clear enough to see the ISS and the shuttle at 7:22pm in the UK. I have only once before seen the ISS chase the shuttle across the sky.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/main/index.html
I did the same.
Don't miss those days
I used to do that until this MS one came along, it isn't intrusive at all, much better because you don't have to remember to do it or sit and wait for it. It is set to run at 2am Sunday morning.
Sounds good. Spybot did take a while.
oh dear.
tweet them.
An actual IT question! Cool.
MS Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. And you are good to go. Still won't help you if you go to some websites and get infected with fake AV. And if you do, use ComboFix. Its awesome!

I'm still battling with my CV. Whoever came up with that, Mr Vitae or whatever, stoopid idea.
oh amen to that sista.
i still think you should put 'renault reserve driver' down. there's already so many, who'd know?
I'm more of an in-person person. The document doesn't show all the stuff I am good at or can do, even if I haven't done it yet.
Nice. :)
Ooh, no one's ever said that to me before. I like it :)
#sidepodspace
Those of the UK should be able to spend 2 minutes watching the space shuttle and ISS zoom across your sky to the south starting at 7:22 if you don't have clouds.
It may be able to if you do it skills-based rather than as a list of companies/grades. Bit harder though.
:D
:)
Where do we need to look ?? West / south west isnt it ??
CV? We still call it a resume. But I never stopped to I don't know why they call it resume?
And my resume just got me a new job, but I turned it down. Devil you know.
Eyeteaguy
Something I have learnt over the last year of unemployment/temporary employment, is that you don't have one CV. It's good to have a base document so you don't forget any of your qualifications/employers but you need to be able to tweak it dependant upon the job you are applying for. As an example, the agency is putting me forward for a management information assignment so I cut back on the planning aspects of my last job and gave more detail on the reporting/excel side.
No, I'll do it privately first. That's plan B.
Just chatted to my photography pals and they were shocked too
Our Operations Manager in California said this to me on Friday "Whut up dawg."
Word.

I have seen those. Worth a second look. Thanks
I was having my dinner! Home made breaded chicken with mash potato balls.
So today I was one of the 40% who missed a comment ;)
Hmmm....
Totally weird that a lady with so many talents including a great capacity with the written (and spoken of course) word has this struggle....
Of course this may mean that you don't really want the job you are crafting the cv for..... or that you want it too much ....
How about using the time limit technique... if you give yourself, say, 15 minutes (we know your typing speed is phenomenal) and just go for it.... when it's finished do the quick covering note (5 mins) and send.....
If you go to http://www.wolframalpha.com/ and type in what you want to see (i.e. ISS) then your location it will let you know when it is visible.

I think most people can talk about something they are interested in but talking or writing about themself is very difficult
OK...
That's easy....
Mr C should write Christine's cv....
Heya guys.
Am interested to look out for the ISS, what will it look like? I can see a really bright light like a star sparkling away near the moon but I don't know if that's it. It's in the same direction the twitter folk told me to look for http://twitter.com/twisst7/statuses/44794111177396226
Great idea
Can he write mine too? :)
You'll know it when you see it. It moved very quickly.
Look towards south. Youwill not miss them because they are going so fast. If you don't know where south is it is to the left of wherethe sun set
true. i think she might have previous experience on the space programme.
she introduced steven on sidepodradio and asked him a question too. easy.
You need to get out now to see it
I can see it
!
Christine can borrow my CV. Its very impressive. I use lots of acronyms.
They might be curious as to why she lives in Canada though. You'll perhaps have to edit it slightly.
They're so fast!
Good questions as well. I told you that you two should do NASA TV
Now they're gone for me. Goish its cold out here.
I didn't. I think it was just too low and there were buildings in the way
What did it look like? Because I thought I saw something travelling under the moon, but it was a plane I think...
17000 mph. Any less and they don't stay up there
Fantastic :) Mind blown. I saw a dot tracking across the sky from the direction of the moon, then there was another one just in front of it! Shuttle and ISS. :)
If it was a red flashing light then it was either the ISS or some lucky fellas off to Malaga or something.
There were two very clear bright lights following each other but it was too close to be a plane. Looked really cool though seeing them go across my skyline as my house faces southwards
Was it under the moon?
I saw the really bright star under the moon too I thought that was going to be it. But that stayed still whereas these were moving
Not sure what the bright one was
excellent, so:
"christine has previous experience working on the space programme, and her work was highly praised by those calling the shots."
all true and no chance of being misinterpreted.
I saw two bright stars travelling very fast under the moon.
That was them. Slightly reddish I thought.
Yep, there was some red tint to it. Very bright too! I saw!
apparently that is Jupiter, awesome :)
Was one of them flashing?
I'm trying to work out if it was the ISS or a flight to Belfast.
Gavin,
Look at the left panel on this page. Choose Denmark and follow the instructions and it will tell you when it is visible there. It is only ever visible for a very short period because it is going so fast
http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/
No but one was twinkling more than the other, shuttle i think.
Just been told that the one in the front has been told to slow down, apparently Fernando is. faster. than. him.
I have some software that tellsyou stuff like that but it seems confused. I thought I saw Venus in the south west but the only visible planet now is Jupiter in the west barely above the ground
Hmm, Newcastle says 19:23 and thats about the time I saw it, so I'll hedge bets and say I saw it.
Hahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe the one in front was Petrov?
If Tilke designed orbits
That is unusual. Normally they are just white but I guess it depends on the atmosphere
The ISS does not flash
That's what it was apparently according to a chap on twitter. Makes sense as it was very low and in the west from my house.
Normally the ISS looks considerably bigger thanthe shuttle but it all depends on angles of solar panels and the sun etc
The question is now... I'm pretty sure that plane should have a white flashing light too.
It says 6:50 but that wouldn't have been dark enough.
The second one was very slightly brighter but the first twinkled a bit more.
NO SIGHTINGS AVAILABLE Fine! No reason to shout at me.
It also seemed very fast and low for a plane too...
Planes should have red flashing lights not white ones
You can see it before it is really dark if it is at the right angle to the sun
Maybe it was the ISS safety car following the pack. Perhaps it has white lights instead of orange.
I would guess the ISS twinkled more because it has all those solar panels and radiators at different angles
Seems rude. Once Christine takes over NASA media that will be sorted
No, 2 red and one white, its for night time flying so planes can see on runway and all that, I think.
The ISS and the shuttle are way higher than planes.
:D
I'm pretty sure I saw it. If not, it was very odd for a plane...
Red on left wingtip, green on the right.
I believe the tail has a white strobe
They have white headlights but I have never seen white flashing lights
I saw twinkling but not strobes - and the direction was abnormal too - they would have been flying over, not by my house if they were on approach to the arport..
From the front, it's just all Ray Bans :)
Never noticed the white light but I guess you know better than anyone else
Yes, white light, thats what I meant, didn't mean fully flashing, I'm all over the place here.
Forward facing White lights are either landing lights or taxi/turn-off lights.
No others when cruising, I believe
Evening folks
It's so you can tell which direction it's travelling when viewed from a distance. Especially important if viewing from another aircraft travelling at 500mph
Hi Leigh
We are discussing looking at Jupiter, the ISS or aeroplanes moving across the sky [or all three]
I can't see Jupiter as there are buildings in the way
@TobyMoody
Great is was clear & early enough for kids to see it go over. I'm a convert to this 'Sky Racing'. Where will the commentary box be?
I tried to take a photo but it didn't come out great
Unless you're a fan of pitch black nothingness. Then it came out amazingly.
OK, a plane just went past, a lot dimmer, slower moving and you could easily see the strobes
I think I saw the ISS because it was a lot brighter and didn't strobe like that...
I wonder if Karun Chandok saw it. Who's going to ask him?
I know @5LiveF1 spotted it :)
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/main/s114e7221_feature.html
Now we have all seen the ISS.
Oh fair enough. I've been drinking tea, while wondering where my runners are.
Done.
I love all these motor racing peeps getting into space. Of course sidepodcast was two or three years ahead of them
You need a telescope and a stable platform
Retweeted
I thought so, remember Brian Cox going on about it in Stargazing :) I just wanted to see what would happen with a crappy camera. I was impressed with the crappiness it produced.
It didn't disappoint? First class crap?
It did a good job in being underwhelmingly awful so kudos for that
I wonder if it requires a trumpet
Or an astronomical clock.
Every time I hear that I think it's like a gastronomical clock. Does that tell you what time you should eat?
Trying to shoot anything doing 17000mph is difficult. I can't do racing cars doing 120
Can't remeber who postedthe link but the ISS does not look like that any more
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/main/s114e7221_feature.html
I think it tells you what time Master Chef is on
4:00!!!!??!??!!
Dum da dum!!!
It looks more like this but there have been one or two small pieces added since
http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/gallery/images/station/assembly/html/s130e012136.html
For those wondering, I'm currently putting together a post about yet another UK-based junior series that is launching this year.
Cramped calendar anyone??
A guy I fired last year just called me asking if he could use me as a reference.
I said "Sure, but I am going to tell whomever calls to block YouTube, because that's all you do"
And he was upset with me.
I tell, the youth of today....
Eyeteaguy
:D
You have to wonder about the intelligence of some people
The hangar next to ours: Changing The Patio Doors:

massive.
It's gonna house an Airbus A380 next year. The red structure you see will be added to the doors where the tail will stick out and surround the empennage
WHY is Sir Jackie in this 'I am Lotus' video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMCJaHJo3eU&feature=player_embedded
And Nige???
Gah!!!
He he, I love Peter Serafinowicz
Michaelsoft Binbows
http://www.knockingoff.com/michaelsoft-binbows/
I'm an F1 fan and I invented Lotus
[2 jokes with one stone]
He is a consultant to the team or some such this season. I assume to do with his relationship with the alaysian government
Jackie is a Lotus spokesperson. Was hired a month or two ago
Boo.
I bet he can't quite believe it either
is he better in f1, but as a lotus spokesperson, or out of f1 altogether? tricky one.
This chinese knock offs site is hilarious
A Gene Simmons/Planet of the Apes T-shirt anyone?
http://www.knockingoff.com/monkeess/
Don't know. TBH I thought he would be the sort that wouldn't get involved.
I've been exploring too, absolutely brilliant stuff. They even have a knock off Steve Jobs...
http://www.knockingoff.com/chinese-knock-off-steve-jobs-apple/
It's taken a while. Lotus have been trying to sign him since1965
He's not been too kind to them in the past has he?
And for Alison - Amusing Duck
http://www.knockingoff.com/amusing-duck/
I really must stop now. But first Crispy Hexagons http://www.knockingoff.com/crispy-hexagons/
If you mean that he said their cars were way too dangerous then yes
My stomach geniunely hurts from laughing at this rip off site so much
Yep I did. And now he's endorsing them. Show me the money!
Evening everyone :)
They are not dangerous any more
I think it is currently broken in all legacy browsers... But here's the updated html5 movie http://gigglesradio.com/
That site is brilliant. China sounds like a weird place - like some aliens tried to copy the western world or something!
nice one chap. seems to be in an odd aspect-ratio, or is that just me?
Cheers Alex, now we just need to make you so popular that you appear on the featured page of the UStream app :)
So wrong but funny. Kubica is Robert Cop http://www.knockingoff.com/robert-cop/
Awww...
A piece about my local race circuit in Ireland - http://www.rte.ie/player/#v=1093422
:)
Mondello??
Yep - I'm from about about ten miles away from it
I don't know...
I think I might need some help in working out what i've done...
am here, if you needs me.
Okie. Thanks. I can't really look any more tonight. I have to be up at 5:15 tomorrow. But yes... Thank you!
no probs. the embed looks good, but the original is a bit squished. yell when you're free.
Cheers! Thanks so much
That's me too, early night
bye folks

Night
Something interesting happening at Silverstone?
NightLeigh
British F3 media gathering. My first of the year... or ever for that matter.
Enjoy it then
have fun
night
i will - cheers folks
Ciao Leigh
Have a great time :)
I was in sign language class :(
(At least the class went well this time. Did signs for emotions and everyone was encouraged to do the most ridiculous facial expressions!)
Sounds like fun. I guess sometimes the hands are not enough to convey the meaning
Hungary seemed to work quite well with the LMS cars - or was that because my newbieness didn't let me see the flaws?
The facial expressions allow communication of the amount one is feeling the emotion as well as the fact one is/was/will be having it. So a small smile means you are quite happy and an ear-to-ear grin means you were very happy.
Also learned the signs relating to confidence:
A "C" shape in front of your chest is confidence in general
A "C" shape at stomach level means low confidence
A "C" shape at neck level means high confidence
A "C" shape above your head means arrogance
And a "C" shape at your chin means... ...cousin!
That is confusing
Good morning all.
I just learned I get next Monday off work for a public holiday which means thanks to F1 trips and Easter, of the next seven weeks, only one of them requires me to work a full five day week. High five!
It certainly is...
*high five*
Woohoo!

I have been in contact with my hotel in Singapore trying to confirm that they still want me since they never took a deposit. Fingers crossed my reservation still stands :D
I'm a big fan of confirmations, seeing as my hotel had zero reservation from me in Prague, when I thought I was all set for a month.
#planningandchecking
thats my worst fear. My second worst fear is them saying no we don't have your reservation, please rebook it at the new $1200 dearer rate.
I also need to try and change it to a twin room #secretplan but I get the feeling they'd try change the new rate for that too :(
Keep us posted.
I already have a plan, I would cancel it and go book at the Marina Bay Sands instead, that's only $400 dearer than my "prebooked" hotel. And it has a boat on top of it.
Excellent backup plan. :)
