It's a momentous day today, as this will be the first post on Sidepodcast written wholely on the G1. A bit of an experiment in our mobile capabilities. However, there's plenty going on elsewhere:
- Team Brawn are go, with an announcement, press release, website, shakedown and interview all in one day. It's really a big relief, mostly for the team, but also because the speculation is over. Hurrah!
- Peter Windsor has spoken about the rapid name change from USF1 to USGPE. He sort of said it had always been part of the plan, as a mark of respect to the teams of yore. Really? It was always the plan to confuse everyone?
- If you use the realtime doohickey, you may notice a new button. Give it a try and see what happens. If you get stuck, or find any bugs, let us know!
That'll do for now, I am getting RSI from the small keyboard. More practice is required. While I do that, I'll see you in the comments.
BBC F1 news...
"Look boys and girls. That red car in the lead is a Ferrari. Can you spell 'Ferrari?' F-E-R-R..."
I'm picturing the Wiggles and the Big Red Car :-)
Or Ross and his Big Banana car...
James Allen and Mark Blundell?
\
'Toot Toot - wake up Kimi'!
Big cook and little cook? :P
BBCi has a Formula One preview on at the moment 'til 14.30. Channel 302 on Freeview.
Test from Google Chrome - man it is fast compared to Firefox!
I had a go at using Chrome and Safari for a bit a couple months ago. Personally, I find Firefox > Safari > Chrome.
I just cant gel with it, I dont know why.
I just downloaded Firetune which seems to have sped up Firefox!
anyone watching the BBC preview thingy?
Im fine with the speed. She's got it where it counts - it made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs....
I think it's already been on the BBC website? It's a twenty minute feature (or so) on repeat.
ah fair enough. I really should try to keep up :p
Still, I got to see Mansell and Senna in Spain again. Class pic :)
I am. Jake Humphries is a lot taller than i thought he'd be!
Might just be because he's standing next to Lewis. ;)
Hes not particularly short though is he?
Greetings from the library computers once again. :(
Aloha! Back from Jerez tests, was trying to work out what to do with all the pics. Click on my name to view the galleries. And a confirmation: 2009 cars look OK in real life. It's the angle that matters, the spectators in the grandstands are always above the cars, while professional photographers tend to take shots of the cars passing on the same level with them. I hope I'm making myself clear. I'm not particularly good at using special terms.
Happy for Brawn but would've preferred to see somebosy else in the 2nd car, maybe di Grassi... Paul di Resta? Given the obvious engine connection... Maybe next year?
Just a quick thought: the header could use 2009 RBR car with Vettel for a change. Yes? No?
Does anyone know which SKY channel the F1 preview show is on?
It's ended now. It was basically all the same stuff on the website.
Thanks :D
Is the entire preview show on the BBC's F1 site?
It was put together with videos like the Hamilton interview and the Murray's top 5 video, which is all on the website.
Are they on YouTube yet?
Same question here - me wanna watch. :)
On our way to the Apple Store. Hoping to meet up with Ollie afterwards.
The new Ikea in Southampton is an eyesore!!
Aaah, good ol' sotton, used to live there many moons ago...my road was a dump...if you didn't want to keep something but didn't know what to do with it, you left it in your front garden...within an hour it was gone!
Ooh, sounds nice. We'll make it a flying visit then :)
Too far south for me.
The whole of Southampton is an eyesore! I lived there for a couple of years.
Live commenting out and about! Woo hoo! It's the way forward.
Next step... The old sidepodcast diaries were often from the car... Maybe it's live streaming from the car? ;)
Have dropioed a pic of it. The ad says "bet they don't have meatballs in there" and then offers 10 for 3 quid. Who ever looked at ikea and wondered if they sold meatballs?
So is me being a gentleman and buying you a 17 inch MacBook ;)
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/1236442034341
Basically thats what they all are, big blue boxes.
Oh and i say garden in the loosest terms lol
In the Apple Store. Testing out a Mac Book Pro. Nice keyboard.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-1-jpg-2
Mr C's arm!!
I'm more concerned who's taking the photo, it doesn't look like your doing it and Mr C seems to be looking the other way.
He is dangerously close to the iPhones :)
Hello all, back in blighty again.
I see there may be a little bit of news to catch up on
I better get me skates on then. Let me know when you've spent all of your money on furniture and gadgets. :)
Have left the Apple store, but Mr C remains inside. God knows what he will come out with.
Nothing much, Brawns bought Honda, nothing big their. Testing has been dull, pitpass have revealed an unspectacular article.
Welcome back sir.
You can see the big yellow logo from just about anywhere in the city - it's monstrous!
The question is, do you have the money?
Thanks RG
They certainly didn't compromise on the look of the place. I feel sorry for the shopping centre behind.
So, whats going wrong here like?
He has access to funds. Should I be worried? ;)
I'd say yes.
It's a G1 problem. We are aware.
Okay, I can live with it.
Anyone know if there's a t mobile store round here?
Right outside West Quay, I think. If you're facing the front entrance, look left.
Thank you!
Just looked for Mario Kart in Game. Tis not there :( Mr C has returned from the Apple store with just headphones. Very restrained of him!
Have you checked inside his pockets?
Hmm, no. I trust him.
We found the T Mobile store. Ollie was spot on!
Now moved on to buying socks. Rock and roll!
Try HMV if it is still there, although it might cost more than Game...
It only comes with 1 wheel so get another!
Sock and roll?
Thanks Pat. Didn't see an HMV. We only need one wheel, no worries on that front!
Or that!
Funny, when I used to live in Southampton I used to call it cotton socks .. why? with my weird sense of humour Soton Docks became cotton socks
Hiya everyone. So happy to be home from work, long day. Also, I caused an argument about F1 in our staff room when someone said that people waste their lives on sundays watching boring stuff like F1. They came out with classic lines such as 'The car doesn't have a proper engine so they dont even drive it' and 'I bet I could drive an f1 car anyway' which was amusing, but several people stuck up for F1 which was nice :)
Bless!
We just found Ollie!
Hi Lukeh,
I thought the usual put-down was that it was more interesting to watch paint dry.
The guy who started the comments said the line the last time he watched f1 the 'red or white car was winning and everyone else was boring' which goes to show how well developed the argument was :D
Having drinks with Ollie. Annoyed we missed out on champagne fridays. :)
Have dropioed a pic of the menu but it turns out i'm I'mthe only one drinking. D'oh!
Oooh! My revenge ;)
This bar is made for us, they have Goodwood pamphlets on testablishmentbar.
That didn't work!
testablishmentbar?
exactly? What on earth is it meant to say, the establishment bar?
Right a citrus boost for Ollie, a garden thingy for Mr C and a B52 for Christine!
I tried to change the first bar to establishment to save repeating the word. It didn't work.
We have chickened out but Mr C has gone for the garden fusion. Takes five minutes to make apparently. We think they might be growing the cucumber.
This looks like a new game, and one that I could enjoy playing! Just gotta find a pub now!
I'm just getting p***ed on red wine tonight - nowt too fancy!
Bit late now (sorry, went out) but if you come out of the big shopping centre into the high street, HMV is directly opposite - well, it was five years ago.. I have no idea if it's still there.
Have dropped a picture of the garden fusion. It is too dark in here to see properly.
Think I'm gonna have a nice night in with my mistress Stella - all this talk of booze has made me thirsty!
I'll be getting some Guinness and a few other Irish beers going later.
I was gonna say I'm having an evening with Jack, but maybe that doesn't come across too well now.. First up: beer. Before then: cup of tea.
Sheesh - I knew I had gotten a few bottles of wine as presents but I never knew I had 27!
I went for a Cutler Crest Zinfandel - a nice smooth red wine :-)
You need some help with all that??
I'm doing fine thanks. But if you feel like a trip to Denmark I'll be sure to uncork one for us ;-)
I'm thinking either water, fanta or if I'm feeling nice, oasis.
What's oasis?
its a kind of fruit juice / squash arrangement! No %abv!
Denmark you say, yes please!
Pfft... The beer is drunk so much here that the breweries make the soft drinks too.
Must stay relatively sober as I will be Video calling the olds on Skype shortly...
I tried to comment reactions to the Garden Fusion twice but neither worked. Suffice it to say it wasnt wasn'tpopular :)
Have left Ollie now and we're heading home. Both kinda hungry, pondering our food options.
FFS... Stupid Skype dropped the call again!
Oh well, might as well get on the beer now then!
Suppose you wouldn't be up for Skype later on Gavin, due to the drinking and such, but if you are then give me a shout.
We had some squealing brakes then when Mr C didn't realise the junction was a give way instead of a slip road. Not quite as exciting as a grand prix but we're trying :)
Oh dear...
Who puts cucumber and Red Bull in the same drink?
who puts cucumber in a drink?
I love Peter dearly for what he and Ken has said the last few weeks, but I can't defend him on this. What he said was utter nonsense.
If anything, it has led me to a twilight zone moment this morning when I saw a photo of the 1988 Arrows.
FARK!!!! AGAIN!!!!
I suppose it's better than a 'Red Balls' :-)
We'll see. Depends who else is keen?
Cucumber in pimms is nice. Sorry. To be fair the description was under the bottom of the picture so I didn't realise.
Who puts eldeflower in a drink ;)
Mr C tried to make me drink a babycham the other day - so I say we're even :)
Ferrari did offer Brawn their engines, but he chose Mercedes instead: http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/03/07/brawn-gives-more-juicy-details/
Am starting to wonder if any of these 'inside source' reports were true.
:D
Hehe, fair enough :)
Of course they weren't! They were all negated within the same day!
Have just realised Mr C is heading towards 24 hours without commenting. Do we think he can do it?
What time does the 25th hour start?
I would have had to have drunk it by the law of sidepodcast if they had had it in the bar!
Funnily enough I was just about to mention this. I had noticed!
I'll promise to donate half of my money in my wallet to sidepodcast if that happens
His last comment:
If it weren't for you keeping us updated Christine, I'd be quite worried by now! ;)
wow really? is he okay? it's odd for him not to be around. I've been out today so haven't really noticed..
ah but how much money do you have in your wallet? :P
Actually quite a bit, I think around 40 quid.
Why do I say things?
You still owe us a YMCA. :P
:D
Hehehehe.
He's fine. Sulked yesterday but just busy today. Can't believe his last comment though, what a way to leave things :)
I also wondered if he had seen the bug I mentioned earlier.
I'm soooo dooooomed.
Good database question when was the last time he didn't comment for 24 hours?
But there is a place you can go.... :)
Hmm, nice question based on that for the panel, cheers Alex.
Does such a concept exist? ;)
By the way, pitpass forums update (I've gave up complaining, I'm waiting to see how long it will take for them to activate the account now) is now at 2 days, an hour and 12 minutes
That IS a good question. Probably when we got married.
And when I say good I mean quite complicated!
There's no need to be unhappy, RG!
Aye, aye. Castleford won.
Apart from that
Well I am a geek. It's the kind of thing I like :)
Mr C is pondering it.
When I joined, it didn't get activated until I wrote to them to ask why. I was told that they get lots of people posting spam so they were very cautious allowing new members id their username looked at all dodgy
Glad I could help. Is that tomorrow? (not that I want to get me in trouble if it isn't)
Next week I think, still better get some stuff together.
Can't believe how well the doohicky has been doing just now. I'm being driven on country lanes with service dropping in and out. And it's behaving perfectly :)
It's a complex little beastie :)
I would look at the table twice with different names. Where in both his name is the name and in one the id is higher than the other then max(max(table1.date)-max(table2.date)) or something like that.
But then again I'm in the back of a car and I don't know wordpress so I may be being stupid.
Who's on the panel?
I think I might be.
Cool :D
Oh beep! I'm eating my dinner and just bit my lip owww.
Here ya are
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Next+Week's+Panellists
Don't do that!
Owwwwwwwww!
Are you a car horn?
Nope :P but I thought that if I sais what I actually said when I bit my lip "me" would have had to tell me off and break his 24 hour curfew.
But, "Are you a car horn" could be a good game .. we could play "What am I"
What am I?
I'm something you will see in the pit lane at the Melbourne GP ... what am I?
A botched Ferrari pitstop?
Nope .. but THAT was funny in Singapore ;)
A wombat?
Eddie Jordan sulking in the Force India pitlane by standing where the cars should go during pitstops?
No
No
BRAWNGP
a crash? A Minogue sister (they are often about)...
No
I should say I am an object
No :(
A lollipop?
Rubens with the winners trophy?
No :P
We may need another clue
Would be nice nut No
a car? a fuel hose?
An item the pit crew may use
the winners trophy?
Lee McKenzie? Ted Kravitz?
A refuelling hose?
tyre?
Best answer yet!
ferrari traffic light?
No
Jack
No
No
Tyre warmers?
Nope
No
No
a lolly pop?
gloves?
wheel gun?
No :(
Gloves .. No
We have a winner! :D
wheel nut? helmet?
Dan's the winner .. you want to pick something for us to guess?
I want to lodge a protest ... the wheel gun used was not within the regulations..
Signed,
S. Domenicali
25 second penalty for protesting :P
:)
Alright. Let me think.
But Ferrari never get punished!
I shall withdraw the team unless you give in!!! That is the way we do business in Maranello!
Will you also withdraw your engines from STR?
We don't-a care about-a them, they only make-a the soda pops!
Actually, I will pass. I have to take a phone call.
TTFN :)
Just completed my BAT racer warm up laps. Anyone who has still to run has two hours to get the job done
It's started?, oh crap
Lou started it last night.
Since it has gone quiet and Dan has left a game hanging I am going to start another. It came up briefly a couple of days ago but didn't take off.
You are having a dinner party and can have 5 people related to F1 as guests. Who are you going to have?
Franck!
Just the two of you or are you going to use your other choices?
Depends on the rules of the game :)
The game is dinner. Apres-ski is your own affair
Robert Kubica and Fernando Alonso - Get a good game of poker going, some lively banter as well.
Nick Heidfeld - Won't make me feel the smallest there
Sebastian Vettel - Someone I think I will end up having a good chat to about everything
and
Mr C - Well, he is a genius
:D
Mika Hakkinen
David Coulthard
Jim Clark
Michael Schumacher
Murray Walker
Understood.
In that case, Frank and Le Seb and Rob and Lucas.
And Mr C... cos RG has made me feel bad!
Frank Williams
Murray Walker
Sid Watkins
Ken Tyrrell
Slavica Ecclestone
:D
Who they?
Of course, Rob Smedley - someone I can relate to.
Mr C, your off the list
I'm guessing Rob Smedley and Lucas Di Grassi?
Why Rob Smedley though?
Rob Smedly and Lucas Di Grassi.
Smedley & Di Grassi
i meant Smedley...
Hello Bassano :D welcome back
She likes the accent...
Thank you Jackie
[fighting the jet lag but trying to stay awake]
Who doesn't?
Don't know what you mean. Just that he seems like a decent enough chap.
My first attempt was Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Eddie Jordan and Mario Andretti.
But I also want Murray Walker, Gilles Villeneuve, Sid Watkins, Juan-Manuel Fangio and Keke Rosberg.
You gonna git fat boooy!
My dinner list
If pizza is on the menu - Murray and Damon.
Otherwise
Stirling Moss
Jackie Stewart
Frank Williams
Charlie Whiting
Rubens Barrichello
Jenson Button
Murray Walker
Mark Webber
Niki Lauda
Ted Kravitz
You are having a Poker Night and can have 5 people related to F1 as guests. Who are you going to have?
I aslo though of Fangio, Nuvolari, James Hunt .. it's so difficult
I decided to choose people who are still able to attend.
Any driver who can't play poker, a marked deck and no limits.
That's risky. They are all a bit too fond of their money. Bernie, Max, Donnelly, Whiting and rigged deck seems like it could provide a great game.
As I said before, Alonso and Kubica, I'm sure Vettel, Smedley and Heidfeld can play too.
I like the fantasy of having any choice regardless how improbable. I have Fangio as an option and he didn't speak English.
Quick question... how does one say Jabouille?
Jab-wee?
zhab wee
Jah-boo-oui ?? No idea what it means, or what it is.
Dijon 79? Certainly a Race to Remember!!!
I predict Dijon 79
I do too much French
Yea, I didn't want to give it away, but Mr C said better to get the pronunciation right.
There are only two options with him. Dijon 79 or Silverstone 77
For those of you who own rFactor, you MUST install this!
He is French?
I mean instead of 'wee' I did 'oui'
I have but didn't play it much, and now my wheel is broken.
He is French.
Ah, ok. :)
Yep, he sure is...
Okay, Mr C's last comment was at 23:14.
I am now 13 minutes away from losing £20 quid.
what was the bet?
If Mr C doesn't comment for 24 hours I'm giving half my money in my wallet (£20) to spc.
'Me' has nearly gone 24 hours without commenting.
RG said he couldn't do it...
Awesome - looks like a 20 quid donation to SPC then!
Will this fund the next season of sidepodpanel?
Jenson,
Jackie Stewart,
Darren Heath,
DC,
Ross Brawn
Jackie Stewart? You want to be bored to sleep? All he does is moan and whine about everything. He's like Paul Stoddart, except Paul's awesome.
Jackie is awesome.
Rubens
Jenson
Murray Walker
Eddie Jordan
and Nick Fry so we can all laugh at his silliness
Jackie Stewart highlights the shortcomings of F1 and how it is run. Almost without exception he is right. I have never heard him whinge.
He was the guest of honour at a historic festival at Knockhill in 2007 and ever person he spoke to left with a smile. The guy worked his but off for hours to make sure everyone got photos, autographs, questions answered. I know it has become fashionable to have a go at him but the guy is fabulous.
One name I never expected to see was Nick Fry.
I hate you Mr C
He's done it!
Jackie goes on a 20 minute "rant" about anything from the FIA, to safety, Lewis, the weather etc. JV does the same actually, but JV sold a whopping 39 albums outside of America and Canada, so go him.
Also, y'know what's better than Jackie?
http://www.teamamericaf1.com/blog/
That link.
:D
Cough up the score :)
Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn it.
Grrr
i've not been here, and i've still upset someone?
And he's going to be the RBS ambassador for free this year. What a deal for RBS!
Why couldn't you have come online 5 minutes earlier? Why, why why?
Probably Steven's fault.
Mr C?! it's been too long :P
RG inadvisedly bet half the contents of his wallet that you'd manage a whole 24 hours without posting. He should engage brain before opening post window :)
oh right, yeah. sorry, i need an iphone.
not sure i've ever disagreed with Jackie. plus he's not afraid to stand up to Bernie or Max. Go him! truly one of the greats of the sport :)
Brain? Who needs one of them, just write what the guts tell you to do.
evening.
Well you just got 20 quid towards one ;-)
:D
i (heart) rg.
I actually fear it may be more.
I hate you too :)
You know we can't actually see your wallet, don't you?
The reason Bernie has a sport that he can show at lunch time on a Sunday is Jackie Stewart. Jackie Stewart fought with the organisers, the circuits and the drivers to take F1 from being a blood sport where several drivers died every season to the point where death is rare. If he has something to say about safety it is worth listening to.
On the FIA he has pointed out the failings of Max and in general he is saying things that the majority of us think and say. Whereas most of the insiders keep their heads down and try not to annoy Bernie and Max JYS says what he thinks and we need more insiders to do that.
But that's why we have drop.io!
Yes, oh well what do you know, I seem to have spilled the contents and gave it to some company...
Damn this day and age, bring back the 90s.
thank you, by the way to kathi for the brilliant suggestion of making daily posts a different colour in doohickey. will do asap (probs 10-14 days).
might ignore alex's suggestion that we turn doohickey into a tribute to the renault livery and have every comment appear in a random colour ;)
Right, I'm off to sulk in bed, hopefully by tomorrow morning and after training, someone, (dad if your reading, the money is yours) will have mistakingly took the wrong wallet to get the papers and other goods (treat yourself to a nice choccy too)
Ciao.
night rg :)
Aaah, good ol’ sotton, used to live there many moons ago…my road was a dump…if you didn’t want to keep something but didn’t know what to do with it, you left it in your front garden…within an hour it was gone! {Comment #29}
Sounds like parts of every city I've ever visited. For example, Sheffield's equivalent is Frog Walk, Nottingham's equivalent is the city centre and Derby's appears to be Alvaeston, judging by the recent home refurbishment programme where a house developed there had the copper piping stolen from it twice in the space of three weeks...
Who ever looked at ikea and wondered if they sold meatballs? {Comment #34}
Someone learning to read using shopping catalogues? I can't see anyone who knows what Ikea does coming up with that idea...
BATracer race has been completed.
No retirements!
Found a restaurant that Christine might like
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/panda-express-jpg
:)
So far I am liking 1986.
Is that like Pizza Express?
Didn't go in but it did look like a chinese [ish ] fast food joint
Your panda delivered in 30 minutes or it's free?
i've probably missed someone talking about it, but i just wanted to say these photos in drop.io are amazing, and i like them very much.
Thanks Lou, have just put them up.
That was our Dodge hire car
Probably :D
oh :( my two links didn't work.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/morning-frost-jpg
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/wing-mirror-jpg
:) am hoping you have many more :)
that is odd. i fix.
nice to have you back mr c :P
Lou,
I think you missed these photos the other day.
http://www.freezeframe.ac.uk/tag/gallery_Ponting
bin and done lots of driving today. christine read out loads of comments though :)
cheers to ollie for the company too.
Am starting to go through them and picking out the highlights. About 500 on camera and maybe 30-odd on phone
Did go here though
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/heart-attack-grill-jpg
and they were serving these
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/bypass-burgers-jpg
[Don't know why the portrait pics are coming up landscape]
ooo yeah your right i missed them, and the convo that went with it i suppose :)
They are amazing! my fav - http://tinyurl.com/crek45
drop.io can't read the orientation meta data, but your mac can, and so is auto rotating without telling ya.
your camera is probably doing the same :)
not sure if it's fixable, but i'll let the dropioers know.
Just out of curiosity, where is Sidepodcast World Headquarters?
classified info that. although i would admit to being in the uk :)
There are a few pages of them. They were digitised from glass plates from Scott's final polar expedition.
our spiritual headquarters are here though:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockall
Fair enough :-)
All I can tell is your reasonably close to Southampton and that place with the airfield, although I don't know where that is so that doesn't help.. Not that it matters, I'm just being nosey.
They could tell you, but then the stalkers wouldn't have anything to do.
Unless they're "official" like in the Thursday Next books.
Sidepod Towers
1 Bibendum Crescent
Greater Pandashire
F1 SPC
UK
:D
good job it's not your actual headquarters, imagine the buffering with live streaming! :P
nor bernie.
live show delayed due to 20ft waves.
cool. thanks for the link, really should catch up with comments i miss more :)
:D they are a bit harder to control than a washing machine, and an owl the other side of an open window ;)
Heheh.
Only fair I say where I be: Dorset.
alex / bassano / flibster have requested the ability to pick up in doohickey from where you last left off.
it's on the list. but a little way down.
I thought you might appreciate them. The site has something like 20,000 photos from various polar expeditions but the Scott photos are very special.
ah cool! yeah that would be great, not essential though ;)
so i see:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Listener+Map
i love the map :)
are you up for a trip to the science museum, pat?
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Science+Museum+Meet+Up
I like maps generally, this is a good one. I'm the most south-westerly listener! (of the UK listeners)
A few more

I have to ad mit to being a little worried when I saw the filename, but luckily this is a nice picture of a car, not the ex-deputy Prime Minister tied up.
Very interested but unable to make it I'm afraid. If you're doing April 16th, that's a Thursday, I do a part-time college course on Thursdays and I can' t miss it, it's our final year.
Oh I misread, you're thinking 15th?
Oops, didn't think that title through :D
15th is looking more and more likely, if that helps?
I've just had a thought, hang on.
Oooh I was right on my hunch - that's Easter holiday for college!
wow you should get a flickr account Bassano, you're really good :)
agreed... and maybe a blog?
yay!
Cheers, there's a lot of samey landscapes but hopefully a few gems
Will pop them onto Flickr during the week when I'm not so jet lagged
Stop it! ;)
Can you put me down as a provisional?
I'll need to ask my sister if I can crash at hers, which shouldn't be a problem. Esp. if I stay in town for a day or two.
Everyone should have a blog. It should be law.
lol you'll be introducing a new rule that only people with blogs can comment next :P although i do think a blog would be a good idea :)
done.
hehehe. i'm with pat, everyone needs a home on the net.
Speaking of blogs.
(shameless plug)
I put F1Minute on mine just about 24 hours ago. It looks great!
http://toomuchracing.blogspot.com/
(/shameless plug
that's my kinda plug! could we interest you in a branded player:
http://www.f1minute.com/share/f1-minute-partners/
essentially, you provide an image (and/or an intro mp3), and we do the rest. we're running a bit behind with requests, but plan to catch up this week.
One of my faves, shame the quality isn't better
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/little-rocks-jpg
I'd probably have to invent a logo for mi'blog, first. If anyone has ideas?
I'm interested if I can make it fit into the design. Ooh my Feedjit just went crazy.
:o looks amazing!
no worries, and no rush. what you have looks cool.
what's feedjit?
agreed. looks like you're having a brilliant time.
Now the next trick, is to see whether the Post office would/could get a letter to you using said address...
Anyone work for Royal Mail??
haha. i likes it.
At the ASI show Coulthard said that if anyone had any comments about his work for the BBC this season not to send comments to the BBC. He said they should be sent directly to him. Just put DC, Monaco and it will get to me he said.
Nice! :D
'twas absolutely stunning scenery.
Grand Canyon pics don't do it justice and the red rocks of Sedona at sunset made me wish I'd learned a bit more about the new camera before I left
And there is a whole museum that you can visit as well, and if you are organised enough to make an appt. they will let you view other bits of the collection too :-)
http://www.spri.cam.ac.uk/museum/
But go soon, as they are about to close for blooming ages for refurb :-( Its Cambridge Science fortnight over the next couple of weeks as well and lots of interesting things going on (like lectures on explosions with accompanying bangs :-S and music and all sorts)

Sadly all the kers related stuff was in last years batch...
Well it looks about as good as Blogger and a non-designer can manage! I don't like the Google Ads though, as soon as I added them it made it look cluttered. I'll play about with the bigger player though, it should fit well at the top.
It tells me where visitors are viewing the site (albeit only very generally - which is good) and what sites they came from. So I just saw 5 visitors within 5 minutes from sidepodcast.com/realtime/. I only usually check it once a day.
The location is usually by city, which it gets wrong frequently, I know that from other blogs that use it. I don't care about that, I only want country info.
To expand on that...
I came at blogging from following IndyCar blogs after the merger last year. They were a better source of info than the racing news websites, so I've been commenting on those for almost a year. I started my blog in July and managed to get myself linked with those guys, so a lot of my traffic is American. I didn't know that until I put that little plugin, er, in.
I'm on Facebook checking to see which F1 teams are on there. I checked the guys you'd expect, like McLaren and Ferrari, and yep, they're there. Lou tells me Renault aren't though.
Minardi and Super Aguri? Yep.
But get this. Lola are there too.......what the hell? AND they have more fans than Super Aguri.
Name teams that you think aren't on Facebook, for whatever reason. game time!
My only concern was the 'spying' aspect... I figured that since it report my own location based on BT's location, not mine (i.e. it thinks I'm in Basingstoke or Winchester), it can't be that accurate and so isn't a concern.
got ya.
good stuff re: clicks. we were discussing with ollie earlier, how to encourage bloggers to plug posts and sites without feeling bad about doing so. but also at the same time, avoiding turning the comments into simply a list of links.
it's a tough one to solve. must comment monday was a step in the right direction, but once the season starts, we struggle to keep it up.
ollie had some fine suggestions, but if anyone else fancies throwing ideas into the pot please do.
Virgin F1
Gonda
[Damn, can't use that anymore :( ]
thank god :)
brabham - bernie doesn't know the internet exists.
I should say that my traffic profile has changed radically since I started posting about BBC F1! Google really is your friend.
I don't think you can. Just look at Twitter from Monday to Friday. Weekends it's great because people basically live comment everything. Mon-Fri it's just links. Which is good in once sense because I've found some truly great stuff that way, and had my own stuff RT'd too (thx!) - but it overwhelms any conversation.
I can believe that a long-running sportscar constructor has more fans than a flash-in-the-pan F1 entry. I like Lola.
lpg's comment went into moderation (just bumping it to the top of doohickey in case it gets missed).
I should have said, it's for the actual F1 team, not the manufacturer, sorry.
Virgin F1 - nope.
Gonda - Nope, though I didn't actually expect them to be on it for some reason.
Brabham - No for the team, but the man himself is there.
Keep going!
fair point!
we looking for one in particular?
if so, i'm going to say toro rosso = no. force india = yes?
i'm saying renault wont be on there ;)
Benetton.
Prost.
Jordan's bound to have one!
Toro Rosso - Yep
Force India - Yes.
None in particular really, mainly ones that haven't been successful I suppose. Ones such as Minardi, who I am now an official fan of :D
Ah nuts. Blogger doesn't like F1 Minute's big player. I jigged things about and the sizes don't work for my theme.
we can brand the square player too. it doesn't have to be the elongated version, just the two examples happen to be.
we'll need a bigger logo from you, but that's the only difference.
These are a couple of years old but this is where I'll be putting the new ones that make the grade
http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/
Why not? Honda still left the sport didn't they?
Okay thanks. Is it possible to make the playlist appear on the square player? Maybe it would only have room for 'F1 Minute: 06-Mar-09' but that would be fine. I think that'd look pretty good. Don't worry if it isn't possible though! Just floating ideas.
i didn't answer steven's dinner question earlier:
- ralf (because i bet he know things about michael, that michael wishes he didn't)
- ian phillips (because i could listen to him talk all day)
- kimi (because a quiet party is a boring party)
- vb-h (no comment)
- franck (to keep christine quiet)
Whilst Mr C talks to VB-H :D
That's because you were waiting for 20 quid :-)
:D
:D
now, i didn't say that...
I know ;)
now, now, you're not denying it. :P
also true :)
hmm, might need some tweaking, i'll have a play around tomorrow.
You didn't need to.
Ok ta. No hurry.
I just realised I never got around to writing about FOTA.
rofl
I'm intrigued by this whole dinner party thing... going to have to go and think about it, lol.... (this is what happens when you go all day without turning on the 'puter until after most sane folk are going to sleep.... teehee)
As for IKEA... hmmm living a 20min walk from one is not good (especially when it makes for a cheap got-to-leave-house-and-walk-children because of the free coffee thing) although I can now enter, find item desired, and leave again within 20 mins if I have too lol...
And I do wonder who they will get to do a CBBC commentary... now a Cbeebies one and I'd be betting on that being Chris and Pui's new project; but on CBBC I'd have to put cash on either getting the awful Ed whatshisname or the most excellent Richard Hammond... but it will probably be someone from blue peter (rolls eyes) or that Holly from the links over the summer (as she has since popped up doing sport, and it turns out that she has a background in motorbikes or something from university).
next time i need something, it would be quicker to send you, and collect it from your house! 20mins must be some kind of ikea record :)
must sleep, internets. catch ya all in the morning :)
G'night Mr C
Senna, Hamilton, Ron Dennis and the Sidepodcast crew
G'night Mr. C!
Scary...
Godd night
Oh, give me a break, me...the reason why you can say that you can admit to being in the the U.K. is that Bermuda has yet to be bumped up to its own separate country from its current status as a British Overseas Terrority...
Oopps did I just indirectly say that you guys are based in Bermuda ? Sorry Me....
Jackie Stewart, Alain Prost, Gilles Villenueve, Stirling Moss & Murray Walker
I'm mainting you're in Cheshire
Mornin all.
You're still a muppet RG?
Why's that in my name?
Oh yeah.
Hey RG. Why not buy a logitech headset for Skype with your money? I think this would save SPC money and be as good as a donation.
PS. I think they're in Bedfordshire
Nice idea, if I find the time to get one, I shall.
I have a controversial answer to the F1 dinner party
I'm going for:
Bernie
Max
Luca (di M)
Ron
The head of CVC
I thought about Flav or Frank (Williams) for the last slot.
I want to spend my evening banging their heads together and sorting F1 out :)
Oh and a message for Me. Good shout on ignoring my multi-coloured suggestion. I don't think I quite thought that one through.
:D
I don't think it's either but will keep my assumptions to myself
I think it is a little private island off the south coast or maybe an under sea laboratory.
sealand?
I'd invite Juan Manuel Fangio, Jim Clark, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, and Michael Schumacher.
I wonder what the 5 greatest drivers in F1 history would talk about... :)
Is that not an old oil platform that someone declared was a country and he was the king?
Political views in Sweden?
Maybe you could ask the five you invited what the 5 greatest would think if they were there. :D
Sounds like something Mr C would do.
Bruno Senna to test Le Mans car
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73610
It's not an oil platform it is a sea fort. Wonder if it still has the anti-aircraft guns? I can just picture Bernie and Max and Christian Klien flying over sidepodland.
http://www.sealandgov.org/history.html
that's the one :)
Prince Roy it says
"Whilst Sealand has been the pride and joy of Prince Roy and his family for well over 30 years"
Never realise you were a royal
Prince Me?
I finally remembered where I came across it. Danny Wallace did a series about setting up his own country (in his flat) and went to visit Sealand.
I remember buying the National Anthem :)
You have to be kidding.
Unless you mean you bought the rights to it or Sidepodland
For those not in the know (Where were you like?)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_to_Start_Your_Own_Country_(TV_series)
I know all the words too.
On the train back to London. I will be home by around seven. Is it a debrief or is there more of this excellent mini-series?
Calendar says mini series I think
Some e-friends of mine have an island for sale atm - £250K and just off the coast of the UK if anyone is interested??
bbbbrrrrrr it's so cold this evening... that could be because we have no heating though.... stupid dad forgetting to check the oil levels... we have no hot water or anything :(. I'm currently wearing a coat, scarf and gloves lol
This weather really is rubbish, wet and windy and ugh. just went into the back garden to get our washing in and a plastic bag just went straight into my face soggy wet and everything.
Not happy. :(
Ahh... The joys and charms of living in an old house, eh?
yep :) a smallish old house, with bad insulation, no hot water (atm) and lots of spiders. unfortunatly the fire in the lounge only really keeps the lounge and kitchen warm, it never reaches the study.
I used to live in a cold house - can you boil a kettle because a cup o' tea and a hot water bottle can really make the difference!
seems remarkably reasonable for a whole island.
having a bath this morning was interesting.... lol not to mention a bit cold. yep we can boil a kettle, have had much hot tea since i've been home, not thought of having a water bottle though....
Ewww a cold bath!!! That sounds horrible!
well some warm water from the kettle.... the lengths a girl will go to wash her hair :)
So I take it you weren't prepared to go 'Bohemian' today?
lol what can i say... i like clean hair ;)
http://www.wardandpartners.co.uk/auctions/auction-details/lot-details/?LotID=710
Still available atm... OK, not off UK, but off part of the historical GB...
I've not been there, but others have and its apparently seriously lovely and gets some of the gulf stream as well...
Historically, I'd call that Ireland :)
I have family in County Clare
It is a nice part of the world, especially the West coast and the Cliffs of Moher
Ah... I'm careful these days... I used the phrase 'sussession' wrt 1905 in front of the wrong person once...
Was odd going to uni in Bristol though, and finding out stuff about my family background that my mum didn't know about her mother (my GM came to the mainland aged c. 18 and never went back)
What was 1905?
1916 or 1921 I'm aware of
Ah... GM was born in Ireland, but where she was became Northern Ireland later that year....
(not to then mention the whole falls road thing......)
Anyone fancy a Formula 2 race this year?
Brands Hatch: July 17-19th
Donnington: August 15-16th
I am tempted
Is it Brands GP or Indy?
The three people who have not yet done their BATracer practise have an hour to do it.
ooo....me too.....am on holiday then... how much?
Hmm, track layout, you mean?
http://www.formulatwo.com/calendar/brands-hatch.aspx
GP track
Thats GP
Brands £24
Donn TBA
Is Touring Cars too :)
How the hell do I add a place on the map? Although it's probably not worth it, it's really near to Castlebar in the west of Ireland which is already on the map, but I'd rather not say I live there when I don't. I clicked the Add thing and then I've no clue.
Details
https://tickets.motorsportvision.co.uk/calendar/race-event-details.asp?ProductID=3736
hmmm.... not bad.
it'll be WTCC, F2, FPA, plus Formula Ford probs.
Are you doing it through the Wiki or the Platial website?
Plus another Tin Top series, they like to even it out.
ooooo.........
WTCC's European rounds usually have Formula Master, and there's the SEAT Eurocopa although with SEAT's cutbacks in racing I don't know if that's still going.
wow and it's only about 40 mins away.... hmm...
mum says if i want to go i can :)
Ah yes, Formula Master forgot about that. Just checked on teh FPA website, its not at Brands on that day and neither is Formula Ford. Wow i got that wrong lol.
WTCC, F2, Formula Master + MORE!! lol
Really? Blimey. I thought FPA were guaranteed! And at the DTM.
I think they're at DTM and A1GP this year
looks like a reduced calendar than usual, im glad its less MSV tracks though, usually they have loads of rounds at the MSV tracks and then don't go to other tracks as much.
