It is the day after Bonfire Night, so hopefully it is all peaceful now the fireworks have been used up. Unless there are going to be more at the weekend. Oh dear. Well, it's Friday today, Thursday is done, so nothing will get us down. Here are some of the things we're talking about:

  • Yesterday, we had quite the discussion about Renault and their non news. Mr Ghosn has said we need to be patient and wait for a decision, but it seems as though little snippets still keep appearing about what is going to happen to the team in the future. I am happy to wait for an official announcement. Anyone else?
  • We realised that it will be time for some best of podcasts soon, so a wiki page has emerged for you guys to log your favourite moments from the year of Sidepodcast. We're talking F1 Debriefs and stuff from the live streams. As pointed out in the comments, so far it very much seems like a place to collate Mr C's useless moments!
  • Talking about Toyota's exit, Christian Horner said that although it was a shame, he still thinks that F1 is in good shape at the moment, and with 13 teams still keen to be involved, it isn't time to panic yet. Yet! He also said that FOTA is doing some great work, but... what have they done recently?

That's all for now. Let us know what you've got planned for the weekend, particularly if it's very exciting, but also if it is simply sitting back and watching TV. I will see you in the comments.

    Post-Toyota interview with Kamui Kobayashi

Nice to hear Toyota's helping them find a seat, but unless they pay for the seat, will it be any good to Kamui?

Kamui is looking at the new teams, possibly Lotus. Trulli-Kobayashi?

Weekend Preview is up. MotoGP is the only thing of note.

I am going to bed so see you, err, I don't know when actually because I'm babysitting / housesitting all weekend. I'm sure I'll pop in before I go and will almost certainly come in while I'm there.

Penultimate major race of the year - just Macau after that, then we're done for the year.

    Night Pat.

i've just come to a sad realisation. no bmw and no toyota means there will likely be zero f1 video footage available next year. toyota were the only team to dip into the HD format too.

  • Journeyer06/11/2009 at 01:13

Well, if Sauber keep the BMW press office, there may still be F1 footage next year. Toyota... yeah, that's pretty much out of the question.

:( i wonder if it will mean no internet launch too...?

  • Journeyer06/11/2009 at 01:16

i've never watched it, but really should

You really should - I love it when they go through those loooooong straights, then when they get through that crazy-tight infield.

It's the biggest non-GP2 race of the feeder series, so it's well worth watching.

  • Pat W06/11/2009 at 01:17

i've never watched it, but really should

Yep. Stunning car control through the twisty bit, and high speed for the rest. Not bad for F3, and the touring cars are utter madness too.

  • Journeyer06/11/2009 at 01:17

:( i wonder if it will mean no internet launch too...?

with teams cost-cutting, i suspect we'll still see a few Internet launches next year. maybe from USF1?

  • me06/11/2009 at 01:18

Ooooh - you bring up a good point. But if they do a single launch, surely it would be marketed as a for-TV event? Or at least as something the fans can watch?

  • Steven Roy06/11/2009 at 01:22

    Morning,

That’s all for now. Let us know what you’ve got planned for the weekend, particularly if it’s very exciting, but also if it is simply sitting back and watching TV. I will see you in the comments.

Well, I have Poker tonight, plan on helping the Outlaws setup their new 17" Dell Laptop with Windows 7, and hopefully visit the recently opened IKEA in Odense, which has 3km of walkways (and Swedish Meatballs :D )...

  • Alex Andronov06/11/2009 at 07:31

Katherine and I are going out to dinner with my brother and his girlfriend to celebrate my brothers birthday tonight (his birthday was earlier in the week). Then tomorrow we are going out with my brother and his girlfriend to celebrate them getting engaged.

    It's all go!

Christine and Mr C might find this useful as may you other Mac based bloggers. Apparently it is a way of searching for photos on flickr and you can automagically check if they are creative commons etc and create the attribution.

I have no idea if it's any good, but it was recommended to me, but I don't really do that: http://connectedflow.com/viewfinder/

Isn't 90% of the country ex-pat or something?

  • Amy06/11/2009 at 08:33

I forgot it was Nov 5 because domestic fireworks are banned here due to the fire risk and for some reason they don't have any public displays either. It's much much quieter than a Guy Fawkes night in NZ, thats for sure.

  • Nick06/11/2009 at 08:34

    Really?

I wonder how much of that is to do with Aussie wanting to be a republic?

Having said that, the idea of domestic fireworks in NZ and wooden houses never really sounded a good one...

  • Nick06/11/2009 at 08:36

Isn't 90% of the country ex-pat or something?

80-90% yup, but not all from countries celebrating the execution of guy fawkes.

With all the mp's scandals this year, i wonder if people in the uk might not have thought he had a good point?

  • Alex Andronov06/11/2009 at 08:36

Indeed. I mean it makes sense for any country with the Queen and everything. Anyone else it must be just be for the ex-pats

To be fair, it's a soft dislike... but it's annoying present. I think you could say it's a little less than the dislike of Aussies and South Africans.

The culture bit is interesting though - for example, I read in an Air NZ magazine that the kiwis drink more tea than the British!

    Both.

I think Twitter is moving out of the honeymoon period where it becomes overcomplicated and full of spammers.

    I think this already happened.

    You might be right.

Phase 1: App gets noticed - big buzz, loads of hype and attention. Full of bugs but everyone forgives the developers because it's new and trendy.

Phase 2: Businesses cotton on to how popular and mainstream it is and the Spam starts to arrive in bulk. This is poorly handled by the developers because they never got around to sorting the bugs in the first place, instead concentrating on adding features that dilute and overcomplicate the service. Talk of the developers making money or selling the app starts in earnest. Questions are asked about how useful the app is.

    Phase 3: EITHER:

    (a) The app is sold, the new owners completely change it which annoys all the users who leave the service; or

    (b) The app is never sold, people get annoyed with how bloated and slow it has become and leave the service.

Phase 4: The app disappears and the cycle repeats with a new app.

This is to do with the allegations Notus are stealing Force India's IP with an old car model.

Do you have a notice period or were you instantly laid off?

There must be some kind of course you can take if there's no work available... What were your plans originally?

  • Scott Woodwiss06/11/2009 at 11:34

I was on a temporary contract so the notice period was just a day. I'll still get paid for today though. I had planned to see 6th form out when I was there but couldn't take the work, so I decided to go into full time work. I just need some time to think about where I go from here.

Morning. I'm really sorry to hear about your job Scott.

There's not an age limit on student support. The limit is how much funding and support you've had before. It's too late to start a course this year though. If I were 51 I could get grants and loans as long as I've never been to university before.

This is tricky - if they're not careful, one of them might not have a car to bring to the grid next year...

I don't see why Force India have a gripe with the same subcontracting company using an old outdated version of their own model anyway - in theory that car would be seconds off the pace.

I think Lotus have made an error here by displaying a stock windtunnel model that has nothing to do with a 2010 car, just to show off something tangible that they can then say "we have a working 2010 prototope"...

  • Stuart C06/11/2009 at 12:15

I’ve just been told at work this morning that I don’t have a job any more.

Bad news indeed. My wife said, when I received news in a similar vein (exactly a year ago, spookily enough), "When one door closes, another one opens." And although it may seem like quite a cloying platitude, it turned out to be right. I hope one opens for you shortly.

  • Steven Roy06/11/2009 at 12:16

I don't see why Force India have a gripe with the same subcontracting company using an old outdated version of their own model anyway - in theory that car would be seconds off the pace.

    Not here

One of the things Force India are complaining about is that Notus used wind tunnel tyres which had signatures of FIF1 personnel on them. They belong to FIF1 they claim.

If I had paid a sub-contract company to do a job and they let someone else have access to something that belonged to me I would sue.

  • Journeyer06/11/2009 at 12:20

If I had paid a sub-contract company to do a job and they let someone else have access to something that belonged to me I would sue.

but if there's no significant difference between those tyres and the regular tyres, that suit would probably just be thrown out of court. it's not like Notus are gaining any sort of advantage.

  • Stuart C06/11/2009 at 12:20

If I had paid a sub-contract company to do a job and they let someone else have access to something that belonged to me I would sue.

What, though, if you hadn't actually paid the bill (along with several others)?

  • RCC06/11/2009 at 12:20

    Hi all

I haven't been around much recently but all of you are ok.

I've got a countdown on my pc at work it and it taunting me saying 125 days left until FP1

  • Alison06/11/2009 at 12:21

What, though, if you hadn't actually paid the bill (along with several others)?

Then presumably they'd seize goods instead of payment. I'm not sure they're allowed to take intellectual property though.

  • Steven Roy06/11/2009 at 12:22

but if there's no significant difference between those tyres and the regular tyres, that suit would probably just be thrown out of court. it's not like Notus are gaining any sort of advantage.

FIF1 mus have some non-disclosure agreement in place with their sub-contractor. If the items are FIF1's property then the contractor is in breach for giving anyone else access.

  • Steven Roy06/11/2009 at 12:23

What, though, if you hadn't actually paid the bill (along with several others)?

That is always a possibility with FIF1 but the contractor can't just give other people items that belong to them

  • Journeyer06/11/2009 at 12:24

What, though, if you hadn't actually paid the bill (along with several others)?

    Very good point.

  • Journeyer06/11/2009 at 12:25

I thought the issue was with the chassis and not the tyres per se? You could say Aerolab was at fault for that, I guess, but if the chassis is fundamentally different, Notus can't be at fault.

  • Stuart C06/11/2009 at 12:30

but if the chassis is fundamentally different, Notus can’t be at fault.

Very difficult to tell on that front. A wind tunnel model is only a representation of the exterior surface of the car. They take a generic titanium frame called a 'carrier' and fit everything to it.

  • Christine06/11/2009 at 12:33

Whoever invented the pneumatic drill is going straight on the naughty step.

I thought the issue was with the chassis and not the tyres per se? You could say Aerolab was at fault for that, I guess, but if the chassis is fundamentally different, Notus can't be at fault.

FIF1 claim the car is similar to theirs and that as well as the apparent similarity it happens to be sitting on their tyres.

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)06/11/2009 at 12:37

Like I said earlier, I think it's just a mockup so they can tell people they are working on something.

I've phoned a helpline once and that was while my last computer was still under warranty and they required me to phone them for advice before they'd collect it.

  • Alison06/11/2009 at 13:49

    That's slightly different though.

Yes. I should think so. I don't like reports like that. The findings seem obvious. Why did they bother to spend their time studying that....

  • Steven Roy06/11/2009 at 13:49

    Why, BBC, WHY?

my opinion of the bbc could not be any lower right now.

Even for GMM that is a stupid story. Kimi had a contract for 50 million Euros and we are supposed to believe that he let Ferrari off with two-thirds of that and is now hagling over 2 million. Logic fail.

How can the BBC run GMM stories? Shame there is not a comment option

  • Steven Roy06/11/2009 at 13:51

I think that when you're at the point of phoning an expensive helpline, I would rather crack out the manual.... Surely that's the only sane thing to do.

Why would you phone the helpline or read the book? I am as intelligent as the people who made the thing or wrote the book so I can figure it out. :D

  • Alison06/11/2009 at 13:55

It depends though. Sometimes it's not about intelligence. Some things aren't at all intuitive. If your designer isn't that smart ;) they won't necessarily design their products for easy use.

Depends what's wrong with it though. I might just want my money back in which case it's the retailer that's liable if it isn't fit for purpose.

Well that's a whole other can of worms - I'm not sure what the law is in the UK, but in NZ it was the case that all the retailer has to do is make a reasonable attempt to fix the problem - which may or may not mean a refund...

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)06/11/2009 at 14:00

That's not the case here. If it's not fit for purpose, you're legally entitled to a refund. Many retailers try to force repair, replacement or some sort of vouchers on you but they're required by law to give a refund if you insist.

  • Nick06/11/2009 at 14:03

What do you mean by 'Fit for Purpose'? If you mean that it's not right for what you wanted, most shops refund you within 28 days (in NZ)...

  • Nick06/11/2009 at 14:03

I've just been told at work this morning that I don't have a job any more. :(

Sorry to hear that Scott... not nice news at all

What do you mean by 'Fit for Purpose'? If you mean that it's not right for what you wanted, most shops refund you within 28 days (in NZ)...

No I mean that it's broken or that the product itself doesn't work as it should or was advertised to.

  • Alison06/11/2009 at 14:05

Then you have a different law to NZ. In NZ, the store can make a reasonable and timely attempt to fix the problem first. Then if that does not work the replace/refund.

We had a similar case with our washing machine in Denmark. TBH as long as the problem is solved then I am happy.

  • Alison06/11/2009 at 14:11

We had a similar case with our washing machine in Denmark. TBH as long as the problem is solved then I am happy.

Fair enough. In this country you use a lot of your rights if you accept replacement rather than refund even if you go on to buy an identical product.

Like 95% of the world's population, I don't understand the NASCAR points system. I've always suspected it is a moveable feast that alters to deliver a climactic finale every time...

  • Alison06/11/2009 at 14:36

I still have my pass, but when I showed it to somebody the other day (who worked there) they looked at me like I was insane and from the past.

Yaaaay! I'm glad I didn't imagine that.... Just to confirm. I can just use the card and get on the train. I won't have transport police chasing me?

  • Journeyer06/11/2009 at 14:37

So... does this story mean he was actually good? Or was he in with a shot at the title the same way Vettel was?

The Chase in NASCAR is an odd beast. You have to qualify to get in, then the qualifiers' points are essentially reset. JJ did well enough to comfortably qualify, then turned up the pace when it really mattered.

  • Steven Roy06/11/2009 at 14:37

Snake really is eating its own tail, isn't it?

The way JJ is dominating, it might as well be past tense for all intents and purposes.

  • Alex Andronov06/11/2009 at 14:38

I have just been speaking to somebody familiar with the Sobart company (lorries etc). They did the transport to Brawn and have said that they are in talks with Force India and Renault (if Renault continue) to do their transport for next year.

  • Steven Roy06/11/2009 at 14:38

So... does this story mean he was actually good? Or was he in with a shot at the title the same way Vettel was?

He has had a really good season of turning left. With the NASCAR points system many people are in with a chance of winning for as long as possible.

  • Journeyer06/11/2009 at 14:38

Like 95% of the world's population, I don't understand the NASCAR points system. I've always suspected it is a moveable feast that alters to deliver a climactic finale every time...

  • Journeyer06/11/2009 at 14:39

He has had a really good season of turning left. With the NASCAR points system many people are in with a chance of winning for as long as possible.

believe it or not, the championship this year wouldve been closer with the old system.

  • Chris Harland06/11/2009 at 14:40

I'm not going to pretent I know too much about NASCAR points, but from what I gather... 12 drivers qualify and their points are reset to the same points as the current championship leader MINUS 10 points for every race win less than the current leader. That means Montoya got -40 points at the start of the chase.

I've been watching and he's been pretty good in the chase, just not quite been there on the last lap.

  • Stuart C06/11/2009 at 14:40

unfortunately, they’ve failed to do that for the last 4 years now…

I couldn't believe it when I saw the points after the first race for the chase for the cup for the thing. The leader has something ridiculous like 1150 points and second had 1140 third 1130 etc

All we need is wikipedia to start quoting BBC as a source which people will believe and then find out the BBC's source was GMM

That's already happened. Well it must have. It has infamously happened with the Daily Fail Mail.

Peaches Geldof wrote an article saying that that silly middle names were silly. And they said that Peaches Honeyblossom Michelle Charlotte Angel Vanessa Geldof had made this point, which they had clearly got from Wikipedia because that was the only source at the time.

But if you look now the name is sourced from a copy of the Fail article (on contact music).

It's totally circular. Two guys made up her middle names by adding to her middle names slowly but surely over several years.

I thought it was very good. Some great opinions and arguments in there. I don't necessarily agree with all of it, but I just like the banter!

The Honda thing was OK - I think you should just skip to the Formula Ford bit though...

Alison, yes just use the card on the yellow circle. beep.

I think NASCAR's points run into the high 6000s. Apart from resetting them they tend to manipulate the races rather than the points.

I like JPM, always a fan.

Thing is, JPM's been uber-consistent this season. He's never figured in any of the Big Ones. About the only reason he's not in title contention right now was a puncture that sent him down the order 2 races ago.

  • Jon Waldock06/11/2009 at 15:06

He's amazing for sports cars, so he should stick to it.

Yes! That's exactly who he is!

He's only won one race but it was on a 'road course' - which is too unique for most NASCAR drivers.

He's amazing for sports cars, so he should stick to it.

I think it's because he's a sportscar guy - it's the opposite of here really. He did make a lot of good points though, and I think part of what he says is just to generate discussion.

  • Journeyer06/11/2009 at 15:09

I think NASCAR's points run into the high 6000s. Apart from resetting them they tend to manipulate the races rather than the points

    Debris cautions much? :D

I like JPM, always a fan.

Oddly enough, I like JPM more in NASCAR. Not just because he came from F1 - compared to the other guys there, he's positively pleasant. :D

I just like JPM, and long may he be successful and loved over there, because he does enjoy it!

  • Journeyer06/11/2009 at 15:10

Is he the Heidfeld of NASCAR?

This season? Tons of top 10s, no wins to show for it.

    So yes. Absolutely yes. :D

  • Journeyer06/11/2009 at 15:10

He's only won one race but it was on a 'road course' - which is too unique for most NASCAR drivers.

And that was LAST season. No wins yet this season.

  • Alison06/11/2009 at 15:11

I shouldn't have to tell you!

Although with Heidfeld, zer is no fun in germany.

With Montoya, there is no messing with Montoya.

With Montoya, there is no messing with Montoya.

I remember NASCAR's race at the Brickyard (IMS) this season, when he got penalized for speeding in the pit lane - it was a marginal call, but he got a drive-through.

He duly said, "Thanks for f-ing up my day, NASCAR." And it was duly broadcast (complete with bleep) on national TV. The fans had an obvious reaction - they loved it. :D

  • Nick06/11/2009 at 15:14

I like JPM, always a fan.

He does amuse me quite a lot, which leave me interested in what hes doing.

He has a good character, but i kind of like hes annoying the nascar guys not the f1 people.

would love to see him come back one day though ;)

Absolutely. A lot of people don't wear seat belts properly. They seem to think so long as it is plugged in it has magic properties beyond the laws of physics. This way even if the belt is not tight it will have some effect beyond trying to cut the wearer in half and if worn corrctly the load is spread over a far wider area. I can see a lot of advantages in this.

What I am surprised at, however, is that they did not give their employees more notice to allow them to find work elsewhere in the paddock.

It seems that this kind of treatment has been consistent across all the manufacturers.

Williams had a decent car in 1979 and won their first ever race that season. The 1980 car was an evolution of the 79 car so very different to the Honda/Brawn situation.

I was thinking of comparing it to 1979 (huge gains in pace and all), but they didn't win the title that season. 1980 will have to do. What I'm saying is that 2009 is just the beginning of a long era at the front for Brawn.

it depends on how that first merc engine goes in 2011, I'd think. lewis' contract ends in 2011, right? or is it 2012?

either way, Lewis will probably have Vettel for company by then (and I'd think Nico would go the other way to McLaren).

    Hmm so am I and I don't have a wii :)

  • Scott Woodwiss06/11/2009 at 17:12

:( aww no i'm sorry to hear that :(

Thanks. It wasn't a pleasant feeling but I know it wasn't anyone's fault, it's just how the economy is at the moment. Too many staff and too little work coming in so they had to let someone go and unfortunately it was me.

But no matter. Yes it hurts somewhat but I'm already job searching and also applying for info on a distance learning course to get a diploma in games design or games development. Plus I need to get back on Jobseeker's Allowance.

Things will get better, it's just gonna take a while.

  • Lukeh06/11/2009 at 17:12

I figured he did start it around Turkey, but I thought he reverted to 2009 work a lot longer than he actually did... He just lost 1 week - not bad, not bad at all. And they have LOTS of room for improvement for next year.

  • Journeyer06/11/2009 at 17:47

    Just a thought on Toyota:

Their first race saw Mika Salo (who was in his last-ever F1 season) finish 6th.

Their last race saw Kamui Kobayashi (who was in his first-ever F1 season) finish 6th.

:D A lovely bit of symmetry there.

So maybe that could have been the reason all the other teams caught up so quickly by mid-season. Brawn had switched the team's focus to 2010 so that they could try and get the upper hand on their rivals again because he probably knew their car would be competitive enough in the spec it was in by the time Red Bull started to put on a major challenge.

But again, Ferrari started early too, so Brawn didn't get a head-start per se. The bigger losers here may be McLaren and RBR, who continued to work on this year's car hoping that 2009 gains can easily be translated to 2010.

He wouldnt know where to start! Plus as chair of the motorsport society, its kinda seen as my area

  • Pat W06/11/2009 at 19:04

Yes. All who are looking forward to the game should blog about it.

One thing I've noticed about the IndyCar blogging community which I haven't so much in the F1 one, though maybe I wasn't paying attention, is the way a group of them will blog to give something a bit of air time. I don't mean the spots someone tells them about and they get money for, I mean just for the hell of it.

  • Pat W06/11/2009 at 19:05

He wouldnt know where to start! Plus as chair of the motorsport society, its kinda seen as my area

I can see why that would be.

  • Alianora La Canta06/11/2009 at 19:05

Warning: Tweeters have already coined a lazy term for the emerging Little Lost Model* incident (windgate). Since it looks like this dispute will be running for a while, I thought I'd better tell you before you all start throwing the verbal equivalent of rocks at the perpetrators of such lazy terms for psuedopolitical incidents.

    * - I refer to the question of the Aerolab model that may or may not be a VJM02 and looks like causing at least two court cases. Just when I thought Force India had had its quota of those for the month...

  • Jon Waldock06/11/2009 at 19:06

I can see why that would be.

indeed, plus it dosent take that much effort at the moment. if i get a quote he likes then he can book it and i'll set it up during the day!

  • me06/11/2009 at 19:07

Yes. All who are looking forward to the game should blog about it.

can you remind me tomorrow and i shall have a go.

  • me06/11/2009 at 19:08

    not sure what you mean?

  • Pat W06/11/2009 at 19:19

    not sure what you mean?

Say somebody gives an interview which is interesting for whatever reason. Or the latest spoof YouTube clip.

On the IndyCar blogs you can be sure that within a couple of hours the video or the transcript will be embedded in posts from a lot of bloggers.

On the F1 blogs - I don't mean the news-y ones - some would post it, some might mention it tagged on to another post about something else, some might only tweet it.

Just a general impression which is why I'm deliberately vague. The scope of the different blogs may mean it isn't a like-for-like comparison.

  • Alianora La Canta06/11/2009 at 19:19

    http://www.rac…assis-production.html

    Piccys of the lotus

    I’m sure if you squint hard enough you can see Tonio Liuzzi {Comment #494}

There does seem to be a scrubbed something-or-other out on the side... ...but why would there be anything there on a wind tunnel model?

  • Alianora La Canta06/11/2009 at 19:23

    Why is Gacoyne designing in Cologne? He couldn’t wait to get out of there when he was with Toyota {Comment #498}

I suppose Toyota had to do something with the spare wind tunnel when the maximum number for F1 use was set at one at the start of the year. If Lotus are borrowing wind tunnel time (either directly from Toyota or via Fondtech), then it would make sense to use a tunnel that Mike knows well. After all, Mike had fallen out with pen-pushers, not the tunnel!

    has this been mentioned today?

Maranello, 6 November 2009 – Today early in the morning, just after 8am. Fernando Alonso arrived at the gates of the Scuderia Ferrari for his first contact with the new team, although still not as an official member due to his contractual commitments regarding image management, which still tie him to his previous team and his sponsors

    http://www.ferrari.com/English/News/Pages/091106_F1_Alonso.aspx

    Alonso at work already ;)

I am surprised we haven't had the standard press release saying he set a new lap record at Fiorano even though he only drove a road car. No doubt we will get that the first day he sits in an F1 car.

  • jackie/saltire06/11/2009 at 20:27

Hi Lou, if I don't see Jon could you ask him if he lives anywhere on my route and I could pick him up?

I can get him a ticket but kimster wants to go in early and you only get 1 ticket which allows entry for 4)

  • Pat W06/11/2009 at 20:36

    Time I was going.

I've got to do babysitting / housesitting over the weekend. No idea what my online movements will be.

Another visit to Ikea tomorrow, this time my mate who came with me last time needs some stuff because they were out of stock when we went and he forgot to check online first.

Sunday I should probably start revising for my retake. If I don't see you before then, have a good weekend..

    Bye!

  • Pat W06/11/2009 at 20:39

btw can someone please remind me on Sunday or Monday because I'd quite like to sign up to Alianora's karting meet but I don't have time now...

you should start one up around your neighbourhood streets under the cover of darkness..

Yes, I have a karting meet. Coinciding with Autosport International, it's a fun race between friends who met on the internet open to all capabilities and none.

Details may be found at my wiki, as Steven rightly says.

Everyday? Is that an obligatory part of it? You just can't go home.

  • startledbunny06/11/2009 at 23:35

i dont mind yours as there are bits of it but the musics the best bit, but this is literally someones written something and then cranked hte handle and that came out.

i couldn't do a whole podcast like that. i only use it because it is clearer at saying artists and track titles than i am.

  • Jon Waldock06/11/2009 at 23:35

i can't listen, so fair enough. but banning it seems quite harsh :)

i dont mean completely. basically what im saying is....ban that particular podcast ;)

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)06/11/2009 at 23:36

    Evening.

Poker Night was good - put in £15, won £20 - mostly on one hand when getting close to zero which made the others a bit cross.

It was a good night though - lots of pizza, rum, Wii and music (MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice and Aqua featured) and I got to see a colleague who I have not seen in two months because she got transferred. It was difficult to tell her that I missed her being around without it sounding all wrong!

A really good night though - what have you lot been up to tonight?

  • RG06/11/2009 at 23:36

i dont mean completely. basically what im saying is....ban that particular podcast ;)

Should I not go around with a baseball bat and smash his recording devices in?

  • Jon Waldock06/11/2009 at 23:36

i couldn't do a whole podcast like that. i only use it because it is clearer at saying artists and track titles than i am.

i totally agree that it has its uses, and have looked at using it for a bits and pieces when i started, but not for an entire podcast

  • Jon Waldock06/11/2009 at 23:37

Should I not go around with a baseball bat and smash his recording devices in?

    I like

  • startledbunny06/11/2009 at 23:37

i dont mean completely. basically what im saying is....ban that particular podcast ;)

come on then, name names! we want blood and we want it now! ;)

  • Steven Roy06/11/2009 at 23:37

Everyday? Is that an obligatory part of it? You just can't go home.

As I understand it you are supposed to get way drunker than you planned then throw your chips over your trousers

  • RG06/11/2009 at 23:37

music (MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice and Aqua featured)

    You weren't listening I assume.

  • Jon Waldock06/11/2009 at 23:37

come on then, name names! we want blood and we want it now! ;)

i would tell you but i've deleted it now and cant remember what it is!

  • Jon Waldock06/11/2009 at 23:38

As I understand it you are supposed to get way drunker than you planned then throw your chips over your trousers

the chips part is definitely obligatory

  • Alison06/11/2009 at 23:38

As I understand it you are supposed to get way drunker than you planned then throw your chips over your trousers

Ah. As long as there's no beer in my hair, I'll be happy.

  • startledbunny06/11/2009 at 23:40

the chips part is definitely obligatory

i must be the only one who gets pizza then (and throws it over the trousers)

    Phonebooth, then Speed

Oooh, Speed, I hadn't thought of that! He's only in a phone box for a few minutes!

  • Jon Waldock06/11/2009 at 23:42

The film with the ending with the plane where bruice willis goes "yiki ki yay..etc etc"

i cannae remember what its called

    Die Hard

  • startledbunny06/11/2009 at 23:43

    There's a phonebox in Speed??

the bit where keanu has got his muffins, the first bus blows up, and the phone rings.

    "Pop Quiz, hot shot"

  • Andy Taylor06/11/2009 at 23:43

I'd go with Superman, but there are plenty of British films too

  • Jon Waldock06/11/2009 at 23:43

    Die Hard

    thats hte one!

  • Alison06/11/2009 at 23:44

the bit where keanu has got his muffins, the first bus blows up, and the phone rings.

    "Pop Quiz, hot shot"

Ooooh it even features the words pop quiz! That's ultra topical.

  • Steven Roy06/11/2009 at 23:44

    That's what I said!!

First thing that came into my head but in the film he doesn't get changed in the phone booth he does it while he is running.

  • startledbunny06/11/2009 at 23:46

First thing that came into my head but in the film he doesn't get changed in the phone booth he does it while he is running.

the words phone, and booth, brought me to phonebooth.;)

(then probably pop quiz reminded me of dennis hopper in speed.)

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)06/11/2009 at 23:48

    Phone booth movies:

    -Phone booth

    -Die Hard With a Vengeance

    -Speed

    -Bill and Ted

    -Matrix

    -Mission Impossible

  • Christine06/11/2009 at 23:48

I am right with you guys, I said Superman and then Phone Booth. Apparently, it is none of these.

  • Christine06/11/2009 at 23:49

    -Phone booth

    -Die Hard With a Vengeance

    -Speed

    -Bill and Ted

    -Matrix

    -Mission Impossible

Ooh, the Matrix. That should have been obvious too. I have seen that one.

  • Andy Taylor06/11/2009 at 23:49

    Any clues?

  • Alison06/11/2009 at 23:49

I am right with you guys, I said Superman and then Phone Booth. Apparently, it is none of these.

There have to be loads of films where criminals make threatening phonecalls from a phone box.

  • Christine06/11/2009 at 23:50

    -Bill and Ted

That's it! Mr C says that is correct.

Also worth noting, Keanu Reeves is in Speed, the Matrix and Bill & Ted all in a phone booth. The man is obsessed.

  • Andy Taylor06/11/2009 at 23:50

That's it! Mr C says that is correct.

    Keanu's finest role.

  • Steven Roy06/11/2009 at 23:50

Didn't think of that. That is a good one.

Question - does Lee McKenzie do any voiceover work? I'm sure I heard her lovely Scottish lilt on a Sky channel called 4 Music tonight - or was that the Rum?

4music? It's unlikely. She's probably got a exclusivity deal with the BBC.

    (guesswork)

she must do something for a living. it sure as heck isn't reporting on f1.

  • Andy Taylor07/11/2009 at 00:27

I love the daily. I have no real knowledge about F1 nor any longstanding interest :P In all honesty, I'm not sure why I come on this website at all! :D

It must be for the witty conversation

oh but she was the "sweetest journalist of the year"

perhaps she was the sweetest because she didn't ask any probing questions to annoy the team.

listen to the 5LiveF1 podcast abu dabhi preview where she's interviewing rosberg about what he's doing next year. its comic genius

She won it because she's great at tilting her head and asking sympathetically "You must be so disappointed?"...

righteo, I am off to celebrate the rising temperature (27 degrees and going up) by making a giant fruit salad then running some errands. Anyone need anything from the city?

    What is Professional Studies? {Comment #878}

If it's anything like Loughborough University, it's the study of how to analyse yourself in order to do better in your career.

I imagine that Rob may have got this for helping Felipe Massa analyse his performances and therefore race better.
