We are halfway through the week and there is snow in the UK causing traffic chaos all around. That's why we recommending staying indoors! There is plenty going on in F1 for now to keep you occupied. Here are some of the things we're talking about:

  • Flavio has managed to overturn his ban, although the FIA aren't at all happy about the ruling and are considering their options. We had a breakout thread with the news, and I also wrote a post about Renault's timely announcement of their new team principal. Share your thoughts in both threads!
  • There's been a lot of discussion about Heidfeld and where he might fit in the 2010 grid. The man himself is acutely aware that the seats are being snapped up from under him, but says he is prepared for the unexpected. After the last few years in F1, so are we all!
  • Dank has an interesting post encouraging you to invest some time in watching a series other than F1, and see how you get on with it. He makes some good arguments and it's worthwhile giving it a shot. I am not yet convinced though.

That's all for now, keep us updated on how your week is going, and as ever, I will be round and about to see you in the comments.

ooh, new day and a shift change.. I was only gone an hour.. :-)

Are we tired of hearing about snow yet?

Yeah but only because we don't have any here. It sounds like everyone is over-reacting. But - you can be sure as soon as it snows here I'll be going on about it too.

  • Bassano06/01/2010 at 00:19

When I was leaving work about a quarter of the Night Shift had phoned in saying they were having problems getting in

I still fail to understand how 4 inches of snow stops you driving around places?

  • me06/01/2010 at 00:24

I still fail to understand how 4 inches of snow stops you driving around places?

isn't that like, over the bottom of the bumper?

  • Bassano06/01/2010 at 00:24

I still fail to understand how 4 inches of snow stops you driving around places?

Well, that was from the folk who made it in, those that didn't were further afield. I think they were more concerned about getting stuck at work come 06:30

  • Steven Roy06/01/2010 at 00:24

I still fail to understand how 4 inches of snow stops you driving around places?

I lived on the south coast for two years and heavy rain caused the traffic to really slow down.

  • Bassano06/01/2010 at 00:25

    10 cm

  • me06/01/2010 at 00:25

    doesn't help :)

how high is an average kerb?

I think stopping becomes the problem

  • Bassano06/01/2010 at 00:26

Less than that I'd say, but not by much

  • Steven Roy06/01/2010 at 00:26

    4 inches. Maybe more

  • me06/01/2010 at 00:26

    seeing road markings another.

  • Alison06/01/2010 at 00:26

I think stopping becomes the problem

Just be sensible though. Use your gears a lot and don't drive too fast.

  • Bassano06/01/2010 at 00:27

isn't that like, over the bottom of the bumper?

10cm of ground clearance would be pretty crappy for a road car

  • Steven Roy06/01/2010 at 00:27

    seeing road markings another.

That's why give way and stop signs are a different shape to any other sign

  • me06/01/2010 at 00:28

That's why give way and stop signs are a different shape to any other sign

true, was thinking about the ones marking the middle of the road.

  • Alison06/01/2010 at 00:28

    seeing road markings another.

I probably wouldn't want to drive about if I wasn't very familiar with the route that's a fair point.

  • Bassano06/01/2010 at 00:28

After a 10 hour shift I'd be pretty hacked off if I couldn't drive home at dawn

  • Pat W06/01/2010 at 00:29

I still fail to understand how 4 inches of snow stops you driving around places?

    'cos you'd need a 4x4?

  • Steven Roy06/01/2010 at 00:29

true, was thinking about the ones marking the middle of the road.

There are a lot of difficulties with driving in the snow

  • Alison06/01/2010 at 00:29

After a 10 hour shift I'd be pretty hacked off if I couldn't drive home at dawn

I have this fear quite regularly although it's slightly earlier in the night I get to run away home. Bad times :(

  • Steven Roy06/01/2010 at 00:30

    'cos you'd need a 4x4?

No. I have driven in more than that

  • Pat W06/01/2010 at 00:30

I lived on the south coast for two years and heavy rain caused the traffic to really slow down.

Of course it would. It is slippery and the visibility is less.

  • Alison06/01/2010 at 00:30

My fiat panda seems to manage just fine.... I've had snow since before Christmas and have made it to work every day.

  • Steven Roy06/01/2010 at 00:31

Of course it would. It is slippery and the visibility is less.

The difference between how people on the south coast react to heavy rain than those in the north of England or Scotland is quite incredible.

My fiat panda seems to manage just fine.... I've had snow since before Christmas and have made it to work every day.

Just before Christmas about half a dozen people had nightmares getting home, the worst ones took 6 - 8hrs for a 60 minute journey

  • Bassano06/01/2010 at 00:33

is it not that the roads are carry more traffic?

On the South Coast they also carry a lot of the elderly!

  • Steven Roy06/01/2010 at 00:33

If I slowed down for rain, I'd never get anywhere ;)

I used to use a short section of motorway on the south coast which normally ran at 70ish mph but slowed to 30 if the rain got heavy. I have never seen that anywhere else.

  • Steven Roy06/01/2010 at 00:34

is it not that the roads are carry more traffic?

That affects a lot of the behaviour but the wet/dry difference just blew me away.

  • Steven Roy06/01/2010 at 00:34

It was incredibly heavy rain but lasted no more than 15 mins

  • Pat W06/01/2010 at 00:36

I've only seen that in exceptional circumstances, when it was really bad and you literally could not see. Normal heavy rain I've only noticed it drop to 55 or so

  • Alison06/01/2010 at 00:37

Usually looking at the scenery. I've lived here on and off for nearly 30 years, I know what the scenery looks like, get out of the way :-)

  • Pat W06/01/2010 at 00:45

Nope. I've used them a couple of times in other towns when I've only had a couple of things to get... not enough to warrant a bag..

  • Alison06/01/2010 at 00:45

That is a pain, I'm getting better at it

Yeah but the machines have a mind of their own... I feel most sorry for the checkout staff who have the tills nearby and have to listen to the patronising voice talking to people who can't follow simple instructions all day....

  • Pat W06/01/2010 at 00:48

am amazed shops haven't pushed home delivery more than they do. must reduce shoplifting to zero.

  • Alison06/01/2010 at 00:54

am amazed shops haven't pushed home delivery more than they do. must reduce shoplifting to zero.

To be honest, on the whole, staff theft and fraud relating to deliveries is far more costly. When you're dealing with deliveries, it's whole pallets at a time. No-one really cares about the odd bunch of bananas.....

I used Ocado for a while, was pretty decent and is supposedly cheaper now

You do have to be quite organised and delivery will be a couple of days away if you want a convenient time

  • Pat W06/01/2010 at 00:55

am amazed shops haven't pushed home delivery more than they do. must reduce shoplifting to zero.

I would imagine the cost of transport is quite high.

am amazed shops haven't pushed home delivery more than they do. must reduce shoplifting to zero.

It also cuts their costs by a massive amount. Imagine the cost of building shops, heating them, stocking them and the amount of fresh produce that is waste due to damage in shipping or handling.

  • Alison06/01/2010 at 00:56

I would imagine the cost of transport is quite high.

That cost is usually borne by yourself the faithful consumer :P

  • Bassano06/01/2010 at 00:56

Yeah but is that the full cost or just a subsidy? I mean investing in the vans, drivers, fuel, etc. is not a cheap endeavour.

  • Bassano06/01/2010 at 00:57

It also cuts their costs by a massive amount. Imagine the cost of building shops, heating them, stocking them and the amount of fresh produce that is waste due to damage in shipping or handling.

Except in Sainsbury's where they have staff go round with a trolley and your shopping list [insert facepalm here]

At least Ocado use distribution centres

  • Steven Roy06/01/2010 at 00:58

I'm not sure that's true. In the supermarkets you see staff pushing stacks of trays around, they are collecting things from the shelves for home deliveries. I don't think it comes from a distribution centre.

  • Steven Roy06/01/2010 at 00:58

4 or 5 deliveries per hour for about 14 hours per day. Maybe it's slightly subsidised to stop you going to the competition

  • Bassano06/01/2010 at 00:59

To quote Mr McEnroe You cannot be serious.

    Stupid but true

I'm not sure that bothering to set up insane centres would save all that much? A supermarket already has a national network set up. Surely they'd just have someone in a warehouse instead taking single cans out of giant boxes>

i would be there too with bells on if i wasnt traipsing around the other side of the world for a month. Stupid hotel prices. Stupid expensive holiday. I am excited to learn the campsite has a grand prix buffet no friday and saturday nights. I heart buffets. They also do packed lunches for taking to the track. Yay for food!

It will be interesting to see how wel he does. I had no idea he actually competed

he competes in some American rally series with Subaru. Monster will be entering a Ford into the WRC : http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/15/report-ken-block-heading-to-wrc-with-new-monster-ford-team/ and he'll be one of the drivers.

It should be interesting, and it would be nice if we could get some coverage on American TV. As it is I have to obtain it in.... *ahem* "other ways" if I want to watch any WRC coverage.

a US driver, an ex-F1 driver, and a guest MotoGP legend. The WRC sure are pressing the right buttons. They need more top-line teams, though.

is that why you heart buffets?

  • Steven Roy06/01/2010 at 03:11

i just realised i forgot to bring cutlery to eat my lunch with. Noooooo!

Just go to a supermarket and pick up a pack of cheap plastic cutlery that will do the next dozen times you forget

  • Amy06/01/2010 at 03:19

that is the plan but the only supermarket nearby is aldi and they dont sell them. I normally get plastic cutlery at the cafe downstairs too but they are closed :( i will go on a mission and see what i can find!

  • Amy06/01/2010 at 03:20

i heart buffets because my inability to make a decision doesnt matter. I can have one of everything!

  • Amy06/01/2010 at 03:33

i have decided to forego my home bought lunch until tomorrow and instead go and get a baked potato. The shop that sells them is kind of amazing. Stay tuned to the drop in about half an hour for the amazingness! Unless you go to sleep of course

i can see the benefit of reducing emissions not sitting in traffic etc, but because i don't have a phone, the car is also the only place i'm disconnected from the web.

am only homebound because of the weather.

talking of phones, interesting read about how google shook up the mobile market yesterday:

"...the Google store is now the only smartphone store in the US where, for every phone on offer, you first pick which phone you want, and then you pick a network and a plan on that network. So you can comparison shop among networks based purely on plan price and network quality, because you already have your phone picked out."

for example, an IT degree here might have a class on routing but it's dealing with setting up a router, etc. But a CS class on routing would discuss all the algorithms behind it.

To my knowledge the only requirement for live timing is Java (JRE).

All our 3G service providers are rubbish in SA - Virgin was the cheapest without getting involved with huge contracts.

  • Amy06/01/2010 at 06:25

Watching Eric Bana's "Love the Beast".

I bought the special 2 DVD set for Xmas and watched it on Monday. As an Aussie car nut, it was fantastic. A bit embarrassing in some ways though. We are not all like that... Honest!

The extras DVD had the full Clarkson interview. If he was being serious, then he's an idiot

  • Rich06/01/2010 at 06:29

    latest version of ubuntu netbook.

I was not a fan of the remix software, mostly because I connect to a 22 screen when either at home or work. Otherwise it is great - I thought Easy Peasy was really great - its a reworked Ubuntu Remix.

  • Amy06/01/2010 at 06:30

the issue with virgin here is they dont have their own 3g network so they resell the optus network. I got the 3g modem installed on the eee but when it looks for networks it only finds optus. And my user name and password dont work because im not an optus customer!

I'm good. Just got my GP tickets - 2 days after I booked them. I'm impressed!

Meanwhile, I'm trying to access the website of our local carrier, who has slashed ALL their domestic and international flight fares in half. :O Of course, it's next to impossible to reach the site right now...

  • Jon Waldock06/01/2010 at 06:41

Right, so i was meant to be going into London today, to watch some interviews being recorded at a little Radio Station....but just got this...

"The snow is going to make it very difficult for me to travel into Premier Radio from Reigate today, and since three of my four guests have already had to cancel, I am going to have to cancel my interviews today."

    boooo. i am, up now....grr

  • me06/01/2010 at 06:49

    cool.

    except for the snow, obviously.

  • Journeyer06/01/2010 at 06:54

ugh. we just realized the new passports aren't ready yet (we had them renewed before christmas because it's almost expired). and we need those to book.

and to think i already got 4 seats. i have to let them go. ugh. :(

  • Amy06/01/2010 at 06:57

in singapore i met up with a guy from the mclaren forum who had bought his tickets from f1.com and been sent a map of where to get them with his confirmation email. So we went all the way to gate 1 to the spot on the map to get them where they told him the collection point had been moved to another spot right beside where we had originally been no the other side of the circuit. Grrr. Put me off them forever. Much prefer getting my tickets in the mail :D

I don't know if iPhones are cheaper in the UK but the best contract I can find is about £500 for 6 months...

Oh, a mate of mine bought an unlocked one on eBay for £400 but it had GPS installed. The people who have these really have to faff about to use them though :(

Apparently we can buy Android phones here because I saw a Danish Tech TV program where he was talking about one that looked like Christine's.

Sadly, as for many Danish TV programs (like the F1 Coverage), they talk to you as if you know nothing about tech or you are a small child :(

The DX is a bit over the top, original Kindle is $200 cheaper and does exactly what you need it to do. The International availability of some books is a bit rubbish which can be annoying but I've still managed to find plenty on the Kindle store that I want to read. And just like any other digital content there are definitely other ways to get content that might land you with a hefty fine.

For anyone who is bored and stuck in the snow (not literally), I have a little task for you:

As the calendar is somewhat sorted now, I am calling for short thoughts on each circuit, to be wrapped up in the F1 Digest previews. I've put an example in there, and there's a better explanation on the wiki page.

Ah, so you're the bleeder that's killing my connection.

I'm downloading 5 110mb+ files off itunes and attempting to watch a HD program on iplayer....i've broken the internet...

    no change there then

  • Alianora La Canta06/01/2010 at 13:07

    I still fail to understand how 4 inches of snow stops you driving around places? {Comment #15}

This is the land where 4 drops of rain stops people from driving around places...

I still can't believe the BBC were asking people to comment on what life was like in 'Frozen Britain'!!!

  • Alianora La Canta06/01/2010 at 13:11

Most odd - I went to the Kangaroo TV website to reserve a Kangaroo TV. And lo and behold... they weren't accepting 2010 reservations yet. At all. :O

    Very odd considering they opened 2009 reservations right after the 2008 season ended... {Comment #145}

Perhaps they're upgrading the technology (or trying to work out how to let people get it in less than an hour of queuing), in which case they may not know themselves how much to charge people yet...

  • Turkey Machine06/01/2010 at 13:11

I still can't believe the BBC were asking people to comment on what life was like in 'Frozen Britain'!!!

They needed an excuse for people to turn up to the office to process the comments. You saw Caroline Cheese on Twitter? She was dreading having to do some proper work last night in case Stoke-Fulham got cancelled!

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)06/01/2010 at 13:12

The Donington Park Museum and Café have re-opened and the Wheatcroft family are putting plans in place to reopen the circuit too.

That's good news. Interesting that Gillett ran up £20 million of debt and everything he did to the circuit can be sorted for £600,000. Makes you wonder where the other £19.4 million went.

The work he did probably cost about £600k because the rest of the debt would be the work that was due to be done but never happened. Quite why he paid them in advance I dunno.

    If you have to stay home because of the snow, do you use a holiday day, or does the employer lose out? {Comment #208}

Depends on the contract. My dad's employer specifically does not cover weather-related absences from work unless the employee resides 5 miles or more from work. Most other employers don't bother with such exclusions, in which case it goes down as either a paid write-off day or (probably unpaid) day off, depending on whether the employer believes the weather was bad enough to justify the reason (decided on a case-by-case basis). In the case of this much snow, most employees will get the benefit of the doubt, with people who normally walk down one street to get to work being the main exceptions (employers are allowed to assume the employee has made reasonable efforts to get into work, including minor snow clearance, unless the employee has genuine reason not to be capable of such efforts).

Many areas here have already run out of grit and salt to put on the roads. We could never be organised enough to have underfloor heating.

Hmmm... Getting it is fine - especially in a China or Malaysia where crowds are small. It's returning it that's a bit difficult, because everyone goes home at the same time.

The last time it snowed properly in the UK (as in, enough to disrupt services for several days) was in 1995. Lots of us are experiencing such disruption for the first time as adults.

gavin mentioned this over on f1minute, but if anyone out there has a wordpress blog, the following shortcode will embed the latest f1 minute video:

    [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAWEDZrTcsA]

just copy and paste that into a new post and wordpress does the rest... wish it were that easy back in my day.

You managed a whole day without injuring yourself?

  • Tom G06/01/2010 at 17:39

    who us?

Yes, as I've gained the reputation as being the 'Johnny Knoxville of Sidepodcast'. I think today has proved that I don't get injured all the time, even if I do silly stuff.

Anyway, today, I spent quality Sixth Form time sledging down some of the scariest drops we could find. I had two big accidents, one of which was me digging into the snow with my shoulder after the sledge tipped and I got thrown out and rolled 5 or 6 times before finally stopping.

Hello all, after the rain last night we did have snow but not enough to prevent me from going to work. We were allowed to home early as it hasn't stopped all day. Looking forward to what tomorrow may bring. Glad to see Tom managed not to injure himself although he seems to have made every effort to do so ;)

Like today, when we are debuting brand new F1 Minute video!!

I watched the video on the site and it's brilliant. Will it be in the existing F1 Minute feed in iTunes or will there be a new one to subscribe to for video?

  • me06/01/2010 at 17:54

I watched the video on the site and it's brilliant. Will it be in the existing F1 Minute feed in iTunes or will there be a new one to subscribe to for video?

there's a new one, because lots of people embed the audio player on their site and adding video would break it.

    you can subscribe here: http://feeds.f1minute.com/f1minute/video

  • Janna06/01/2010 at 17:56

    you can subscribe here: http://feeds.f1minute.com/f1minute/video

[...] today, when we are debuting brand new F1 Minute video!!

    http://www.f1m...t-to-stay-at-renault/

This is something we have been thinking about and planning for a long time, and we are playing about with the concept now.

Let us know what you think!

Very slick! Love it. I take it the audio feed will continue and will use the audio from the video?

Tell me when you think it is ready / more than playing around, and I will plug away.

  • Christine06/01/2010 at 18:54

The audio version isn't going anywhere.

    "Flatmate number 16 is Estonian."

Forgive me Kathi but this had elements of Shallow Grave, one of the best films of all time... and the funny sequence of the guys interviewing potential flatmates....

it's as ready as it'll ever be! we'll blog about the process and plans etc, once we've caught the video up with the audio podcast.

  • Pat W06/01/2010 at 19:04

The audio version isn't going anywhere.

Ok. Just keeping options open. :-)

I plan to watch the videos but would like to keep something embedded on my site, I'm not sure if audio would be better for that or not.

"With the raft of regulation changes in the past couple of years and new ones on the way, are we seeing a return to the good old days of F1?"

    Off you go, then. :P

The next post will be about 'Driver Consistency', which is what the majority of my posts have been about this year. Look out for that one soon!

I think people don't mind advertising as long as it's relevant.

i skip his ads, and instead donate.

  • Alison06/01/2010 at 20:54

I think people don't mind advertising as long as it's relevant.

It doesn't matter how "relevant" it is. I'm never going to buy something off an advert. Why should I have to spend time watching them? I don't really mind static ads on websites so much in that I can just ignore them.

Adblocker no work in Chrome. :(

  • Jon Waldock06/01/2010 at 20:58

Why should I have to spend time watching them?

because otherwise you wouldnt be watching it, (dependant on what you're watching) adverts pay for what you're enjoying

  • me06/01/2010 at 20:58

It doesn't matter how "relevant" it is. I'm never going to buy something off an advert. Why should I have to spend time watching them?

you don't have to buy anything, the point is primarily to increase brand awareness.

I don't really mind static ads on websites so much in that I can just ignore them.

which renders them pointless. and is why we've removed them.

if our donations plugging thing doesn't work out, it's likely that we'd come back mid-roll and pre-roll ads in audio, video, live shows etc. simply because they are the only things that generate any sensible form of income.

you can skip them, as i do. but you can't do that if it's live.

  • me06/01/2010 at 20:59

    no in an iphone app...

Awwww :( No such thing as free money.... Nick seems to think people actually click on adverts which I think is mental behaviour....

Enough people must do though, otherwise they wouldn't bother with the ads. Also, Google's whole business model depends on people clicking on ads.

So for now I have switched back to Firefox. When I get my new PC I will use Chrome again...

  • Andy Taylor06/01/2010 at 21:08

You can add an RSS feed to the bookmarks toolbar. When you click on it, it shows the headlines from the articles in the feed.

The Donington discussion got brought up in work this afternoon with a colleage and he mentioned to me how hypocritical it is to support Donington after wanting it to lose the British GP

Surely that's not the point though? This is concerning saving the circuit and it's heritage thanks to the work of an imbecile, and as far as I'm concerned even though I want Silverstone for F1 there's no way I'd want Donington to simply disappear from motorsport!

  • me06/01/2010 at 22:20

  • Jon Waldock06/01/2010 at 22:20

It's not hypocritical at all. It's perfect sense. Donington has always been a better circuit than Silverstone but Gillett's plan was stupid from day 1. Not wanting Silverstone to lose its race because of some moron's fantasy seems sensible to me.

  • Lady Snowcat06/01/2010 at 22:22

Hehe, well I can see his argument though, it's just two different issues for me. It's kinda like the Brazilian GP last year, whereas no matter how much I liked Jenson and support him, I wanted him not to beat Rubens at any cost!

True - as Dave Allen said: Father Christmas visits every house in the world on Christmas Eve. He consumes a mince pie and a glass of sherry in each house and you wonder why we don't see him for another year?

  • Lukeh06/01/2010 at 22:29

It all comes down to timing and also, as I said, it looks like it was a last desperate roll of the dice.... they were bust if they didn't try it on so had nothing to lose....

  • Steven Roy06/01/2010 at 22:36

It all comes down to timing and also, as I said, it looks like it was a last desperate roll of the dice.... they were bust if they didn't try it on so had nothing to lose....

I don't think they were bust if they didn't get the F1 race. They lost Moto Gp which is one major event but Donington is not like other circuits. They put on events like major music events which probably make them more money than their racing operations.

The Wheatcrofts reckon £600,000 will see them operational again so they didn't need to go down the Gillett route.

two days in a row i haven't managed to read them all. there's mr. roy guest post receiving good reviews and i haven't had chance to look at that either.

That is Pacific time or US west coast ish. Add 8 hours and you get our time

  • Andy Taylor06/01/2010 at 23:02

Being very busy at work means no SPC :(

It does take quite a lot of time to delete 56GB :D

    Time zones confuse me...

    http://www.worldtimezone.com/

You can also use the clock on the iPod Touch/iPhone to set the time in multiple locations. For example, mine says it's 10:05 tomorrow in Sydney and 15:06 in Cupertino

  • Alex Andronov06/01/2010 at 23:06

Right I best love you and leave you. Sorry it was a real hello goodbye. Seems to be all I can manage at the moment.

Loved the Joe show. Just caught up by the way.

  • me07/01/2010 at 00:04

We will just have to wait and see what gets announced, if there is anything to announce that is.

that's not a sensible strategy in light of all the information that's available. that would be a bit stupid. am happy to plan ahead on this one for sidepodcast on the islate.

if we're wrong we can stick it on an android tablet instead, but i'm betting on not being wrong.

Strong rumours of iPhone OS 4.0 SDK being announced too

Engadget reporting rumours that the SDK "includes a "simulator" for reformatting / scaling applications to a new, tablet-sized screens"

  • Bassano07/01/2010 at 00:11

The final Apple related item for tonight from me, I heard today that Apple have enough cash in the bank to purchase Dell tomorrow, if they wanted

    :D

    12 years ago:

And at the Gartner Symposium and ITxpo97 here today, the CEO of competitor Dell Computer added his voice to the chorus when asked what could be done to fix the Mac maker. His solution was a drastic one.

"What would I do? I'd shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders," Michael Dell said before a crowd of several thousand IT executives.

Engadget reporting rumours that the SDK "includes a "simulator" for reformatting / scaling applications to a new, tablet-sized screens"

with any luck the timeline will be:

    - sdk update on 26th/27th

    - slate release in march

given everyone enough time to build apps virtually.

(also conveniently feb will be the first time this year, we'll have free time)

if they stuck a camera in the itouch, i'd be happy :)

Agreed, that's the one reason I some times wish my Touch is an iPhone. I'd like to be able to take a picture and upload it to somewhere instantly.

  • lou07/01/2010 at 00:17

if they stuck a camera in the itouch, i'd be happy :)

i think i'm one of the only people who enjoys having separate gadgets for things.. a camera, a phone, and an ipod.. having them all in one upsets me.

  • Bassano07/01/2010 at 00:17

if they stuck a camera in the itouch, i'd be happy :)

They'll likely go 3.2MB [or lower] in the Touch and 5.0MB in the Phone this summer

The iPod Touch is supposedly a fantastic way to get folk introduced to the App Store, then they're hooked and ready to upgrade

  • Tom G07/01/2010 at 00:18

i think i'm one of the only people who enjoys having separate gadgets for things.. a camera, a phone, and an ipod.. having them all in one upsets me.

I wouldn't replace a decent camera with an iPod. It'd just be the sort of one for quick shots and uploading to Twitter etc.

I love the iPhone for it's all-in-one capabilities but I still use a decent digi SLR & a larger capacity iPod at times

Depends what I want to carry with me

  • lou07/01/2010 at 00:24

i'd rather carry separate gadgets in my bag every day.. but i can see the convenience of having it all in one.

  • MoJoker07/01/2010 at 00:25

I carry an N95 half decent 5MP camera, web browsing, sat nav, and a decent phone too ;-)

So are we thinking, one year with this name and engine and then switch back to Ferrari lumps?

Are they still going to use BMW engines?

  • Tom G07/01/2010 at 00:27

Are they still going to use BMW engines?

BMW have pulled out totally, they'll be on Cosworth power, I believe.

If they are calling themselves BMW Sauber, I would think it's quite likely

the teams agreed to the change before xmas. they just didn't specify what the name could be. it was a special case.

not that there couldn't be a different type of special case here i guess.

    "Taken"

    "Underscore?"

The first week back after the break is a killer! Especially when you're half-covering for someone who's on holiday..

We do love Yank-bashing on this side of the pond but we're also an undying supporter of the underdog

Don't worry, it's a two way street. People are always afraid of what they don't understand.

I don't think they are a entirely an underdog. They were the first new team to launch, had a backer, and all of the US to draw sponsorship dollars from. If they fail, they need to look in the mirror.

I just would like to get even a a photo of a car. A overtake in this field might be too much to ask for.

I agree with most of that but F1 new starters usually have a difficult fresher year

Not being the second two cars will give you a chance of success on that front

wait, he said something about the chassis?

  • Dan Brunell07/01/2010 at 03:43

wait, he said something about the chassis?

This is what he said about the chassis.

"And the first chassis – top, bottom and nose – sits upon the Bay Cast flat plate in the R&D shop; it looks gorgeous. Soon we will be fitting all the electrical components, spring/damper units and suspension arms; the front and rear wing main planes are nearly finished and over in California Kenny Hill and Gordon Kimble are not too far away from completing the first batches of axles, hubs and bearing clusters. The car grows, in other words, with every passing day."
