As if by magic, the entire Formula 1 world woke up yesterday and the news stories started pouring in. Mr C found the difference amazing, after surviving on a holiday diet of GMM waffle, re-experiencing some proper journalism from Autosport felt like heaven. Here's a quick rundown of the items on offer at the moment:
- We have yet to see any repercussions from Sir Stewart's choice words in yesterday's interview. There's no doubt that the majority of us agree with his sentiment, but I can think of two quite influential people who won't feel the same way. Will we here from them today? What will they say?
- Almost the entire grid came out with launch news today, okay, well, Ferrari and Red Bull. The Prancing Horse will be the first car we set eyes on, coming out next Monday. Ferrari also announced the return of the infamous traffic light system. Can they really have fixed it? And what state will the car be in when it's launched on the 12th?
- Finally, there's the small matter of some Weblog Awards that we have been nominated for. The voting has started, and whilst we don't hold much hope against such worthy competitors, we would like to encourage anyone and everyone to give the Sidepodcast option a big click in both the community and podcast categories. We've even got some nice buttons for you to make things easy. Thanks for voting!
No doubt today will be just as fulfilling on the F1 news front. We'll see you in the comments.
Have voted on both awards. Although the leading nominations in both categories - the amount of votes they have already is quite scary.
we're doing better than expected in the podcast category and a little bit up on where we thought the community percentage might be.
have you checked out the competition? they really are the best in the world.
Aww come on, no-one's better than Sidepodcast! At least, not entertainment wise :P Besides, that EconTalk thing doesn't really look very interesting on first impressions.
have you seen this:
http://live.twit.tv/
look at the size of the picture and the quality of the live stream, look at the current live viewer count. leo does this day in day out for a living. we're just part-time podcasters who can only dream of producing that level of content.
Have to admit, that's a mighty impressive live stream. But on the other hand, I doubt his show features cupcakes or pandas. ;)
i'll wager that's probably true, yes :)
exactly, has he ever dressed up as a panda and sung the 12 f1 days of christmas? i'm guessing not :D
I'm guessing that this sort of behaviour has a relatively limited audience though.
it's niche appeal, granted.
If I wanted to get rid of the .blogspot.com in my blog's web address and make it into www.zerodownforce.com, would anyone know how I could go about that? I noticed Alex's pages is from Blogspot, but he has a proper web address.

Night all.
Bah been moderated but to reply to Scott you can find the answer in the Blogspot help guides.
What is the current link to your blog?
Oh, and a quick BAT question - how big are the petrol tanks? I mean, how many laps can you have in a stint without them pooping out?
Amazingly, running out of fuel isn't implemented into the game as far as i know. So you can set your stops whenever you like and not have to worry about it.
sorted.
http://zerodownforce.blogspot.com
see ya andy.
Night Andy
Also, how could I get more people to look at my blog and comment on it? Might seem a stupid question to ask, I know :P
Amazingly, running out of fuel isn’t implemented into the game as far as i know. So you can set your stops whenever you like and not have to worry about it. {Scott Woodwiss - 6 comments ago}
What happens is the game automatically calculates how much fuel you need to get between pitstops and lengthens or shortens your pit stop accordingly (though I will admit the difference is small). It simply assumes there are never any fuel leaks.
So we assume that all cars have a tank large enough to do a one stopper on all tracks?
Funnily enough, yes. :P
well, to be honest, you gotta stick it out.
last time you had a blog we joined in the gp2 live discussions and then you just went away. so, i guess you have to build up a body of work and show you won't bail as soon as you get busy (or at least will come back once you're free again).
i comment on sites that have unique and interesting things to say. and i read blogs to discover personal opinions you can't get from news outlets like the bbc.
Perfect timing from Ferrari. They had to choose the day when I will have my butt fixed to the plane seat for 15 hours.
Does anyone outside of US actually have a chance to win anything in those Weblog Awards ?
hehehe. i'm gonna say no.
we can't complain though, we got nominated which is all we ever wanted. two nominations is massive win and anything else from here on in is just plain good fun.
Just voted for SPC and am now looking at our partners categories as they also deserve some recognition for their good work
Remember: You may vote once every 24hrs in each category
you get to vote for one though, and with two f1 blogs in the sports category, it's a bit harsh making us all choose.
Just listened to the Megamix today, I know I'm a little late but knew I was going to need a Sidepodfix for the first day back at work after 2 weeks holiday, my only complaint it was to short but I guess leave 'em wanting more is a good policy. Out of all the good comments made the that really stuck out, I never gave it much thought at the time I was just happy that Ferrari didn't win the drivers title, was the look on Massa's fathers face and the first thing that came to my mind when I heard those comments today was the slogan for ABC's Wide World of Sports (US) 'The Thrill of Victory and The Agony of Defeat'. You gotta feel for the guy.
Ah well, looks like it's one vote every other day then :D
far too diplomatic :)
I just finished listening to the F1 Rejects New Years podcast at around the 23 minute mark they sing their version of Auld Lang Syne with F1 references for lyrics funny stuff but not quite as funny as The 12 Days of F1 Christmas, I'm still laughing.
was there an ever increasing skype delay adding to the festive feel?
am thinking you'll here that effect appear on pop records in the future by the way. cher's vocoder has nothing on indeterminate echo.
I hadn't noticed but then again I was having too much of a good time listening to you guys.
So I guess if there was it did add to the festive feel.
Lots of perseverance! Keep chipping away and writing entries often and also leaving comments on other blogs is a good way of getting your name out there (though don’t just go round spamming!)
The first six months of any blog are probably the worst!
i missed the obvious answer here:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/about/must-comment-monday/
Hopinf for lots of new F1 news today. I reckon by the end of this week, we'll have news about what will happen to Honda, I can just feel like something big is just around the corner...
brawn has given up hope of testing before melbourne:
"There's no hurry because modifying the car to install a different engine requires at least six weeks of work anyway. It's unlikely we'll manage to be on track during the winter.
and admitted there's no honda engines available, so he called up maranello:
"Honda has already said it will not supply us with engines, so that's why I contacted Ferrari."
more here: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/72629
Woo honda news! Its a shame they'll be unlikely to get testing time... how much will this affect them in the season though if they've ben working on this spec car for a year and a half anyways?
I'm sure they'll get a buyer and I'm still sure we'll find out this week or next week. As a massive Rubens fan though I've all but given up hope on seeing him drive next year though :(
reliability could be an issue. especially if they end up with last years ferrari motor. probably means they won't be able to debut with kers either.
Just listened to the Megamix today, I know I’m a little late but knew I was going to need a Sidepodfix for the first day back at work after 2 weeks holiday, my only complaint it was to short {Aitch - 13 comments ago}
There's a 20-minute podcast with my complete contribution in drop.io (look for LCMBP - December 14 2008) if you need more content. Though I must admit the quality is... ...patchy.
Heh, this little article I found is pretty cool. Sony and Nissan made a competition related to the incredibly popular and realistic Song racing game Gran Turismo on the PS2/3 and the winners get a pretty incredible opportunity to drive with Johnny Herbert in a 24 hour race in Dubai!
Having played the games many many times, just find it stunning the progression of playing a competition of a videogame (even if it is very realistic) has managed to get someone a drive with a former F1 driver in a proper event.
That must be rather awkward, with Ross going, "Hey, Luca! Erm, you see, um, I need your help..."
Well, you never know... Rubens may still get a chance. :)
was there an ever increasing skype delay adding to the festive feel? {me - 10 comments ago}
No. I think, for once, both of them were in the same place (Tonga), making Skype unnecessary. They tried using Skype with one of them in Tonga the previous podcast, but it all went haywire when they were trying to discuss Fisichella's season and they switched to a conventional phone.
Congratulations on the weblog awards! Let's hope all of us voting every 24 hours is enough to win! :D
The first six months of any blog are probably the worst! {Dank - 10 comments ago}
I started my blog in August 2006. My first comment from anywhere other than the forum which gave me the blog was March 2007 (and that took nearly a month to secure due to technical issues - ask Clive, who posted said comment...)
I think it helped that I didn't seriously expect comments from anyone at that point, and was delighted when I got one from the regulars. Then I discovered quite by accident that leaving comments adding to the conversation in other blogs was a good way to get people interested.
RSS links are now up on my blog, so please do go and subscribe. I would appreciate it very much :)
oh well that's just brilliant, 10 months of development, no engine, basically no off season testing, a season where there is no in season testing, and a rapidly approaching Australian grand prix. If they make it to the grid they really are gonna be worse than last year aren't they? :(
That team try so damn hard, but can't catch a break.
Also, I'm not sure how to search for other blogs on Blogger. Anyone know how to do it?
It’s unlikely we’ll manage to be on track during the winter. {me quoting Ross Brawn - 9 comments ago}
That's disasterous. It means they get no testing all year. I have a horrible feeling Force India could defeat them by default in 2009. And after all that effort following the sacrifice of 2008... :(
Speaking of comments on blogs; I see 'The Pitstop - F1 Memorabilia' is keeping rather busy at the moment :-D
That's not surprising. Now I just need to think of something for the blog post... ...and the forum news page...
yeah, i've been seeing a lot of him / her around the web. can't work out if it's spammy tactics, or over enthusiatic promotion?
I've been to the site, and it looks legit to me. Not exactly great items on sale, but still legit. Just a case of enthusiastic promotion.
Sidepodcast Diaries is one of the featured videos on YouTube! Look now! :D
have taken a screen shot, shall upload it to drop.io :)
Crikey! Well spotted, Scott.
Oooh I sees it! How does one become 'featured' on YouTube then?
No idea, else I'd do it more often :)
for anyone who is perhaps looking back through the comments and it's not a featured video at that time,
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/youtube-featured-videos-06-01-09-jpg
:D well done Christine, as new years resolutions go, i think it's working out pretty well ;)
YouTube misses you. It's the 2nd time you've been featured there!
1st was... Japan 2007, right?
ah, wordpress doesn't seem to like drop.io links.
Ooh, the RLB Indy 500 should be done now. I started 5th, so fingers crossed.
Well, started 5th, finished 5th. Can't complain with that. :)
What is worrying is - the championship leader won the race, and so far this season he's had 4 wins and been on the podium in EVERY. SINGLE. RACE. Only 6 races in and he's got over 100 points already.
Got it. Thank you :)
Wow, quite amazing. I thought IRL races aren't processions. :)
No there were a couple of safety cars and I probably would have finished a bit higher had it not been for a driver error about halfway-3/4 through the race. Lost 7 places because of it. Plenty of overtaking as well.
you have got to be kidding me! spend 30+ hours a week, once a fortnight, 18 times a year... what do i get? incorrectly accused of copyright theft.
christine knocks up a video diary in a matter of minutes and it gets featured on the goddamn freaking homepage??
the actual homepage? not even the sport section?
my.life.sucks :(
go christine!
japan '07 was featured on the "recommended" sports page. but never this.
To be fair, it hasn't been on MY homepage yet. Is this YouTube UK, or YouTube US?
Yep, YouTube UK, all right. First on the list too. :D
You know who I blame?
the GMM. :)
:D
can i just thank the person(s) who told us that we shouldn't be defeatist, and that 2009 could easily be better than 2008.
i didn't believe them at the time, because '08 simply rocked. but we're only 6 days into this year and i've loved every single one of 'em!
:D
See! :D Now, if only we could plug the Weblog Awards somewhere there... :D
And if Honda could finally find their buyer. :)
aww :) maybe you should start your own video diary? :P
:D
Think it might be time for Christine to set the video camera up again... ;)
Wouldn't that be too shameless of a plug? :)
Shameless plugs? Sidepodcast? Nooo, course not ;)
in a panda suit?
not necessarily, you can be behind the camera speaking ;)
One of the new comments on YouTube seems to like a Panda... could be a winner.
Don't you just love YouTube comments?
Oh yeah. And look, there's a fight breaking out in the comments already.
Only on YouTube... ;)
I've seen that comment about why should the video be featured with only 300 views. But the response is brilliant. :D
And the counter is... erm, more of the same.
Or did you mean your own shameless plug that just came up? :P
:D No I didn't
Rishi just added me on Facebook and considers me to be famous just because he knows me from here!?! :P
we can remove the swearing comments, right?
you can remove any comments posted on videos youve made, I believe
Looks like Lou is right... :-/
we have the power to delete them. the question really was:
"is it ethical"?
here we would asterisk the bad words, but we cannot edit on youtube, only remove.
Hmmm. I guess it's better to let the viewers decide, in that case.
k, shall do.
BATracers,
The first race of the BATracer season is less than 2 hours away - so if you haven't already, make sure you've locked in your car setup, driving style and race strategy.
Good luck! :)
erm... no, i'm not sure it is. I think maybe leave it up to views as Journeyer says. i'm sure every f1 fan/ sidepodcast fan will 'thumbs down' it, so after a period of time it will be hidden anyway.

Best Sports Blog:
KSK - 1316
Deadspin - 272
F1Fanatic - 248
Keith's blog VERY competitive this year. :)
agreed :)
where's ollie??
Currently 12th, on 32 votes.
aww. go ollie!
:)
Actually, Ollie's done well to get this far! Let's remember that this is F1Fanatic's 2nd year here, so they were always going to be stronger this year. This is Ollie's first time out, so getting this far is already very much an achievement.
did you see this comment:
http://blogf1.co.uk/2009/01/05/2008-weblog-awards-blogf1-is-up-for-best-sports-blog/#comment-69613
Nope, just saw it now. Rule of thumb for this is usually to let them win thrice, before politely asking them not to run for a 4th year.
Hahaha! Nice fun jousting between Ollie and Keith over on their respective sites. :)
ahh, ok. twice seems enough to me.
hehe :D
True, but I'm basing it on how they did it with local competitions over here. :D And I believe Jeopardy had a similar rule back in the day as well. :)
lou... are you absolutely sure we shouldn't be removing those youtube comments?
ethically, you shouldn't but i'm not sure that anyone would get angry if you did. in fact reading them i think maybe it might be a good idea.
thank you!
Haha! Somehow, I felt you sigh in relief... :)
:)
It's one argument for bringing it into Sidepodcast, because there is no control on those comments.
there's the delete button and the block user button.
if anything it really makes you appreciate the community here. i'm just removing the vulgar comments at the moment. i'd rather not see the swearing either, but i just we'll just have to fix the whole world too :D
But then bringing it into Sidepodcast means it doesn't get anywhere near the exposure it gets on YouTube. For all that trouble, your first video back gets featured! I mean, on the front page! That is quite the accomplishment and can only give your site better exposure. :)
I have my doubts how useful being featured actually is.
i tell you what i really like. is that top of the "related videos" list is jordan wilman's most recent production.
how does youtube know?
you've got a LEGAL f1 related video onto the homeage of youtube.
forget about how useful it is to us. f1's on the homepage.
I don't follow... :)
I love that video :D
the panda's gonna be a right diva from now on isn't she?
AH! A VERY good point indeed. :)
jordan was on a recent sidepodpanel. how does it know, he's in some way associated with sidepodcast?
In your face, Bernie.
Surely it just goes on tags and suchlike?
AHH! Yeah, good point. Remarkable coincidence? Google search results? No idea! Haha!
it's in your favourites?
ahhhhhhhhhhhh. very clever. i looked all over for some sidepodreference, but that could be it.
I thought she already was. At least it comes across that was considering the way she acts towards Bibendum. Just strutted in there and took his place without thinking about how it would affect him.
about 25 minutes until the race over at BATracer, so if anyone still have to do their warm up runs or sort out strategy now is the time to do it.
*has
About 5 mins unti race time. The build-up is always really exciting like this, I find :P
Race is done!
OMG! I can't believe it! I WON! :D
Lap by lap coverage. Love it and keeps it exciting!
Congrats :)
I'm really, really annoyed at the timing of that safety car :(
Also, credit has to go to Christine and Mr C who didn't finish last!
lap 1 - both ferraris p16 and 17! can things improve?!
Woot 7th in a Honda :D Go Honda!
A ha. Brilliant 16th to 4th, driver of the day surely for me.
Unlucky to Joe who had a bad start and then retired.
But yeah, I'm pleased with that considering my start posistion.
Onto Malaysia now.
Trust me - they do ;)
Yeah I noticed that too, brilliant drive Lou :)
I'd probably tout Trig as Driver of the Day considering where he started and where he ended up. But that's my opinion.
Yes, but he's in a Ferrari.
Still, 21st to 3rd can't be ignored as a bloody good effort.
22nd, sorry.
Indeed so. Had to let him past as he was clearly much quicker than me. But still, happy with my drive.
Noooo! I went from P14 to P6 at the start and then crashed!!
What on earth are you all playing?
This looks like something I want in on
batracer. hopefully the first of many competitions :)
Mr C. The logo you sent me for the car was too small. Do you have a larger one?
Who was it that said I could yank my race start up to 100 with spatial awareness?
I'm going to kill whoever that was :-P
Even though I didn't do well (last), I'm glad Lou managed to score some well deserved points!
Look out for us in Malaysia!
Congrats to Scott for the victory and Trig for a magnificent race!
cheers! - I'll go sign up for that when I get home.
You'll be unable to sign up for our current game though since we have a full grid and have already started. But please do read the guide I've written on the Wiki and get some practice in :)
Scott, a quick question.
Even though I had the same set up as Lou did and managed 5th in the warm up, I was nowhere near her pace or my warm up pace during the race.
Does that simply mean the game decided I had an off-day, or should I be worried about this?
Cheers!
Ferrari are already doing better in our season than they did for real - at least Selidor and Trig were able to get theirs to the finish. ;)
Either she just ran a better strategy than you did or as you said things just didn't play out the way you'd hoped they would.
2 points for Honda in Australia, where have i seen that before? thank god i haven't been disqualified :P
Strategies were almost identical, so I'll just put it down to an off day :)
Thanks and good luck in Malaysia!
Don't give them any ideas!
I think the reason you were last Alenyaa was because of the timing of your pitstops, i think the pace was just cause you had an off day.
I think im more relieved than pleased but thats racing for you :P
Yeah, no damn ad breaks! ;)
And reserve some credit for Alex Andronov -Qualified 3rd with the 3rd worst car setup!
Me being last doesn't matter to me if the other half of Honda scores points. :)
But I was indeed concerned by my slow pace. But I guess it was indeed an off day :)
Outlook for qualifying is moist
One assumes that Mr C tripped over the wires again.
blooming heck. website just died like never before. looks like someone at http://www.mediatemple.com/ was screwing around with file permissions.
panic over.
I have just seen the BAT Racer results from the first race. I think I have to be pleased to score points in my first ever race. Had it not been for the safety car it would quite clearly have been a McLaren 1-2. However I was disappointed to see that my loss of performance from lap 55 was due to a driver error. It was quite clearly cause by a koala lying on the track getting jammed in my radiator. Does anyone know if you can eat roasted koala?
I finished the race with the most damaged car which going by the litte graph wouldn't have lasted another lap.
Does my wet weather warrior skill give me an advantage in moist conditions? Or does it only come into play at heavier rain?
:D
oh no Batracer wont let me log in,
"Sorry - we are experiencing very heavy demand at the moment and have had to cap the number of non-Kool Tools players that can be logged on at any one time. Please try again shortly. To jump the queue you could upgrade to Kool Tools now by clicking the PayPal logo below:" i refuse to give them money :P
My apologies, It was a Mr Media Temple employee who tripped over the wire.
wonder how many times a week they pull that trick ;)
Happy days! I came eighth in my first ever race! Pleased with that :-D
Moist conditions for qualifying though? Ooh, could be interesting...
Mr C, did you see my comment before about needing a larger logo for the car?
Don't know if you have read/talked about this
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/world_rally/7814259.stm
Sounds awful
well it happened to me yesterday too...
oh no Batracer wont let me log in,

Welcome to the club :-p
not caught up yet. gimmie a sec.
A rare insight into Honda strategy for you here, my friends:
Lou, I have prepared a set up for you, please test this one first.
And please ignore the team talk typo: I typed between 35 and 37 where it should say between 33 and 37 :)
Just like team radio! :D
Okay sir, thanks very much.
will do, no problem. well i will when i get onto batracer ;)
So, lou knows what she wants to do but can't get on... and I haven't a clue what to do but was let in without so much as a hiccup
i don't unfortunately. and i've lost the typeface that was used in the original.
do you know how much bigger? i'll take a shot at making a new one for you.
:D
ahhh, i loves it!
Right
I've asked the guy who's making it for me. I'll tell you what when he replies, thankfully, he seems to be online right now.
I am gettingthe same thing.
I got a comment on the Times Jackie Stewart article. Every time I post a comment on that site it never appears. I am surprised only 18 comments have been made on an article like that.
Verstappen news

So, he avoids prision then, but gets a suspended sentance

The contents of the DC Museum will be at Autosport International
yipppee:
"Apple just made this very much official, and announced that some 8 million songs from all the major labels will indeed be DRM free"
i guess that'll save us a trip.
F1 Racing have a '50 Years of British World Champions' stand which will have seven of the nine cars driven by British drivers such has Hawthorn, Clark, Stewart and Mansell.
Alianora - if you were thinking of joining the RLB, I'd recommend getting some practice in with the Champ Car carsets. They are what we use for Formula Trinity and IndyCar right now. Next season it's looking like the plan is to switch to the 2008 IndyCar carset. But any new player/driver who enters the RLB has to start at FT. :)
Hmmm. Still not impressed. All of my music is DRM free and lossless...
99% of it was cheaper than iTunes too. Admittadly it came from the CD's - but at least I have a backup. ;)
Thats a stupidly large amount of stuff to shuffle around. But a nice thing to showcase his racing and retirement
Just accepted Sidepodcast's friend request on YouTube :)
this music industry just lost. apple (and amazon admittedly) just won.
stuff the quality. record companies have finally agreed to stop treating all like criminals. now for hollywood...
we're adding all the nice people :)
I know what you mean. Some of the comments the video's getting are terrible and in some cases hurtful. Just mark all the bad ones as spam and they don't show up straight away, only when people want to look at them :)
ah :( i won't be joining you guys at autosport this weekend :( mum says the weather is just too bad, and dad is still not happy with me going up to Birmingham, specially cause of the weather.. stupid weather. However Mum says as a consolation she will try her utmost to make sure i can go to Silverstone and Goodwood :)
yay! now that I would've rejected it anyways of course, although half the time i upload a vid on YT it gets deleted a week later for the vast copyright reasons these days..
that's another option i guess. they're not really spam though, and if we're gonna do that. why not just remove them?
aww, sorry to hear that lou. hope you can be around in the comments instead tho.
Silverstone and Goodwood seems like a good trade off for Autosport :)
Damn cold weather :( hopefully i'll be joining you and the rest of the gang here at goodwood though depending on a few things, least you still have them to look forward too!
World Series @ Silverstone is an option too? ;)
i'm not sure i'll be around the comments much either, as i can't go to autosport mum wants me to go on the school trip to the west end performance of edward scissor hands, and then go back stage and see professional lighting etc. A good opportunity, but when i will get my work done i will never know.
possibly, depends of dates really.
Seems like I'm going to the glamorous BTCC at Croft again.
Actually that reminds me, did I ever share my pics with you guys?
Work? or a potentially once-in-a-lifetime experience? Toughy! *insert work-life balance lecture here*
The World Series is on July 4th-5th, on the weekend inbetween the British and German GPs. Which is a first since all the other times it was on the same weekend as Monza and Montreal IIRC.
don't remember them?
Reet, half time of the Spurs game I'll put some up.
erm, yeah. That's the weekend of Goodwood, so maybe not ;)
True. All they need to do is up the quality *I'd prefer 24bit lossless thanks. ;) * and drop the prices so that it's cheaper than buying the CD - which most of the time iTunes isn't.
The movie industry isn't anywhere near as bad as the Music Cartels.
Aww man, now I have to choose!
well, i've already been back stage at a london theatre before... but i take you point. ;)
or go to goodwood on the friday?
right now they're worse, are they not?
- drm
- region encoding
- restrictive business practices
itunes prices are fine. it saves me going into a now deserted high street.
Hmm, depends. I don't think my dad would want to spend all that money on petrol. He's only got just enough to cover the expenses at his place right now as it is.
Shame you can't make it. Still it looks like you can use that as blackmail with your parents to get to Goodwood and Silverstone.
Not much of a choice is it. You could do one day at each
Your folks got confused between going to Birmingham and trekking around the Brecon Beacons?!!
Still some consolation if you get the chance to go to other two instead.
As I said, it's more about the other costs like petrol and so on, and my dad's not got loads of money right now. Although I might be driving by then so who knows.
James May is on BBC2 doing one of his poncy drink programs. The odd thing is he is touring Britain towing a caravan. Clarkson and Hammond are not going to let that go without comment.
to be fair, it's a long train journey to Birmingham, heck of a lot of travelling for me. ah well.
It looks like I will be going down to Le Mans this year in a campervan full of crazy Danish people :-D
I'm so looking forward to it - I didn't get to see any Motorsport last year and I've always wanted to go to Le Mans ;-)
If anyone else plans to go, we should all meet up and get very drunk - maybe it could be the next leg of the Sidepodcast Tour? :-)
I don't think Hammond is in much of a good position to be goading May after watching that terrible programme of his on Saturday evening! (Total Wipeout?)
http://transmission.blogs.topgear.com/2008/11/14/mays-caravan-adventure/
I went to Le Mans to see F3000 when McNish was racing in it. Never been to the 24hrs though. The good thing about going to that event is that the Mulsanne straight is public road so you can play at being racing drivers on it. I really don't know how they can do 200mph on it because it is far from being billiard table smooth. The museum was a big disappointment though.
No idea what it was called but it was standard Saturday afternoon fare - Total C**p
That was embarrassing to watch. That's twice in recent months the BBC have copied japanes TV (HOle in the wall, and now this crap is a copy of Takeshi's Castle), I actually felt embarrassed for Hammond watching it. At least braniac seemed to suithim and was actually quite good!
how comes dank has x2 two teams in the fantasy racers league then?
there's gonna have to be an investigation.
If you donate you can have more than one.
It's made by Endemol and from what I could see, Hammond never actually made the trip to Argentina - he does all his links in the studio.
Composes body...
Good news from the Weblog Awards Newsletter
"History suggests that the early front runners are often not
the eventual winners."
Just joined a public A1GP game on BAT. This is the carset I'm least experienced in, so it should be quite interesting to see how it plays out :P
hmmmm...
Steward's enquiry? :D
what about those at the back, and almost last?
post race, certainly.
Actually, this is copied from the Americans. But I agree, Brainiac with Hammond is much better than with Reeves any day.
You can embed the polls onto your site soon...
Hammond is Roy Castle reincarnated. Reeves is not Eric Morcambe ;)
Ah, fair enough. Just watching it make me feel like they were trying their hardest to be Takeshis Castle but failing so... so miserably.
Just finished my Sepang practise runs. Am happy with my times.
what can only be described as 4 chords of awesome:

Just watched this - sky+ rocks.
Loving it so far - and I don't even drink.
That is incredible.
Brilliant! Love it! :)
Love the song(s). Excellent stuff there.
Oh I did like (what I got to see of) the james/oz programme... going to watch it again on iPlayer later though... Music choices were good :-)
Staring at the progrock thing on bbc4 now though... but no cars in that.
Lou - its a Windmill rig on scissorhands, well worth seeing :-). Although its not a once-in-a-lifetime thing as most theatre co will do these sort of tours pretty regularly. Although it would be interesting to know which system they are running atm .....
Question is: where is the F1 musical... and would it feature the Blockheads when Max came on stage...?
Race is done! {Scott Woodwiss}
I've put up my comments on Australia in the Season Comments in BATRacer, and I will also put them on my blog.
Somehow, I thought I'd get a better position in the race than I actually did. Never mind...
Now THAT is worthy of a place in the RLB. Seriously, if you produce roleplays of that quality all season, you could be looking at jumping from a Amateur Licence to a Super Licence straight away. Do you mind if I post that over there and ask them to give their thoughts on it? It's OK if you don't want to. :)
I've just downloaded iWork 09 - liking it so far :)
Looking at Alenyaa's race, I think she lost a lot of time around somewhat slower cars and the lack of fresh air was why lou got away from her. Also, Alenyaa had a pit stop just before the Safety Car, which might not have helped her cause. Hitting Grogan and going slower as a result didn't help either (I can sympathise, since my car got damaged in a crash as well). With a better start, I think Alenyaa and lou would have been equal.
ace. i may do the same.
Don’t know if you have read/talked about this
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/world_rally/7814259.stm
Sounds awful {R.G}
You're right. Hope they recover soon. It seems like even when they hold it in South America, the Dakar is cursed :(
It seems like that when the hold it anywhere to be fair.
A rare insight into Honda strategy for you here, my friends: {Alenyaa}
There is an encrypted radio option, otherwise known as the BATRacer PM system. Click on the name of the person you want to send a message to and put the message in the "Send Message" section. That person will see the message when they next log into BATRacer, and they may be emailed depending on the options they've selected and their spam mail settings (I've noticed BATRacer stuff is unusually liable to be considered spam, even when it is often opened, simply due to the volume of the stuff sent in a typical game).
The contents of the DC Museum will be at Autosport International {Steven Roy}
Yippee! Dad will be pleased :)
What your good lady said a while ago. In fact, I can have up to five teams. Mwahahahahaha! :-D
We. are. all. doomed.
Alianora - if you were thinking of joining the RLB, I’d recommend getting some practice in with the Champ Car carsets. {Scott Woodwiss}
Unfortunately you have to be a Pro driver to get that in a public series, and a Kool Tools user if you want to do it privately in conjunction with the Sidepodcast league. I have a little experience from Formula 1 Home games in 2007 (which were done with a variety of series), but I refuse to spend money on Kool Tools that could go on other projects I have going and I need a lot more statistics before I can be a Pro driver (I only have 2 podiums in public games, largely because half my public experience is in mid-season games and the other half is often in back-of-the-grid cars because I like them so much).
The RLB sounds cool, and it would be very interesting to join even if I'm not as experienced as some on entry. I like the idea of the press release-driven racing weekend.
For that matter, I have some other sample BATRacer reports - try going to my blog, pressing "the category list" link in the "Welcome To The Blog!" post and then clicking "BATRacer". Feel free to post my race reports over there, Scott, because I like the look of Real Life BATRacer :)
Is this a good thing or not for the Sidepodcast league though? I won't do add any other teams if the general consensus isn't favourable!
no worries, i wasn't serious.
plus it might encourage more people to donate, in order that they may add more teams.
I can see a potential battle here, Dank v Dank v Dank v Dank v Dank
Two can play at that game, Dank. I've just donated too. :P
Damn. Now I wish I had money
What your good lady said a while ago. In fact, I can have up to five teams. {Dank - 3 comments ago}
That's a thought - I donated, but I've not logged on since to check what that entitles me to!
you could:
- open a paypal account
- sell something on ebay (payable into paypal)
- donate to fantasyracers
plenty of time before the season starts.
Damn Ali, your race reports are great. I'll definately post them up on RLB and ask for their "approval" if you could call it that.
I might even start up a team in FT and sign you up since SuperLicence and ProLicence holders can run a team in a series lower than that in which they compete in.
I've donated, but nothing's happened?
you look different to me.
older maybe?
Hehe :-D That was 5 pints of axis of awesome!
Pretty scary though - reminds me of the Nickelback Song Comparison - it's a different Nickelback song in each speaker apparently made to sound the same, but there is some discussion as to whether this is real or if they are doctored to fit each other :-(
Anyway, super tired now, so good night all :-)
You know what I mean. Does Danny have to moderate it before my account gets upgraded?
moderated :-(
By the way Alianora, I've posted your race reports on RLB. Now to wait and see what they think. :)
Already a comment suggesting they are better than most of the competitors in Formula Trinity can come up with at the moment!
I’ve donated, but nothing’s happened? {Scott Woodwiss - 2 comments ago}
You have to wait for Fantasy Sports to look at the payment, decide how much it is compared to their (hidden) boundaries for rewards (your upgrade is commensurate with the size of the donation) and send you an e-mail back. It could take up to two days depending on what else is happening at the site.
Another says "Erm...hell yeah?" :D
night gavin.
Were we talking about loud sports and golf the other day?
The Register has this article on the dangers of titanium golf clubs:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/01/06/golf_club_sonic_boom_damage_hearing/
So golf can be loud!
that's basically the same story i think. i was trying to think of a quieter sport than golf.
i figured snooker must be quiet, but you put your ears in close proximity of the cue when it strikes the ball. bowls must be safe though, right? and curling.
btw, tried iwork. the 3d charts are so much faster and easier to use, i'm sold already :)
what about fishing? that's gotta be pretty quiet...
hmm, you could be onto something there. rods can be a bit swooshy though.
Snooker's not always quiet. ;)
hehehehe
:D
erm. i don't even know what i'm looking for really :)
lol :) helpful ;)
what about bob sleigh? or skiing... ski jumping?
Avalanche?
very noisy / lands with a bang.
how loud is an avalanche?
a quiet avalanche?
Love it. I've always wanted to put sports commentators into the "wrong" sport - imagine Ted Lowe doing F1 for example...
i never thought bob sleigh was loud.. then again it's been a few years since i watched it.
Chess?
Depends on if there is anyone there to hear it :)
After being told the constant banging noises in the mountains where I was last week were avalanches, I'm guessing loud enough. ;)
oooh, left of field. it features a ticking clock though.
ooh right, ok :) having never been skiing or been to the mountains i didn't know.
Anyway i suppose i should get some sleep, school and all tomorrow :/ Night all x
see ya lou.
Any ideas why I never got the 1st & 2nd of Jan F1 minutes on iTunes?
mine seem ok. a festive round up and news about di resta.
goodnight lou :)
Ima head off and watch scrubs on DVD in bed myself. night!
see ya luke.
I only have the 25th Dec and then the 5th Jan? Strange...
that is. i can't explain that at all?
No probs. The site is too pretty not to visit, anyhow. ;)
awww.
NIght all
I wanted Andy to post 'postal chess'
Surely that has to be as quiet as sport gets?
Failing that, for an 'active' sport, I suspect diving is (potentially) very quiet... given that its all about minimising the disturbance of the water on entry and all that.
what in the world is postal chess?
hadn't thought of that. there must an inherent risk to the divers hearing though?
My golf-playing colleague says that the noise these clubs make is so loud it's off-putting - and it's even louder from 20 metres away!
