Monday morning again, and time to recover from another weekend of racing action. Although, given that the GP was cut short, we had plenty of time to do that yesterday as well. Here's what's on topic today:
- On that subject, Bernie has defended his start time decision and said that he has no plans to move it. The argument is that you can control the time but not the weather, and Flavio Briatore agrees with this. Meanwhile bosses at the Malaysian circuit have said they'll review it, but presumably what Bernie wants, Bernie gets.
- The Paddock Life: Sepang Edition makes for a good read. I'm pretty sure I read about the snake thing on the BBC, so I guess it was someone over there. I also like the idea of Patrick Head just sitting in his car waiting for the rain to stop.
- Finally, Martin Whitmarsh has placed his future in the shareholder's hands, suggesting that whilst he can make the decision whether he wants to stay or not, it is ultimately not his call to make. He adds that they will be planning on ways to do things better. I guess telling the truth would be a start?
That's all for now. Don't worry about staying on topic, that's what the daily thread is here for. There will probably be more reaction to yesterdays goings on throughout the day, so please feel free to share and discuss. I will see you in the comments.
Felipe baby, stay cool!
I've just made Zoe listen to the live show with me (slowly I'll get her addicted) and she loves Rob Smedley too. Has he been to Jamaica recently?
Podcast watch:
Has anyone seen the Williams, Renault or FIFI podcasts come out yet?
I must say that the Chequered Flag is not as good this year without Mo...
Morning all... I'm all caught up! Phew!
Well I'm all caught up with the race. On the podcast front I'm up to mid way through aSide with Joe!
Poppycock. The race is run at the wrong time of year, for Jenson's sake!
I'm just waiting for Bernie to come out and say that under his medals system, Jenson's win would have been worth a lot more than half points!
The thing that annoys me about Martin is that he handled the whole thing like a politician caught red-handed. Untruths? Where I come from we call them lies!
Greetings from Los Angeles. I'm a video editor. Will you please give me a high-paying job working on your site? No? OK, next question....
Can someone explain the moment late in the BBC Sepang coverage from Brawn's hospitality suite wherein John Button laughingly declined to answer a question from Coulthard, saying "I'm not talking to you David", and then giggling something about Monaco? Coulthard just snickered with a look of defeat, and Jordan made a dismissive comment about it, but does anyone know the details? Is there a story worth knowing?
I like the attention you guys give to F1... I just wish "me" had a better nickname! Anything... Something funny, something serious, anything but the first person plural, because I worry it confuses new visitors to your site.
(Also, if it's worth anything, we're all still embarrassed over here about Indy '05.)
A lot of people call him Mr C!
He also gets referred to as this when he makes comments that end up in the Digest shows.
Good morning everyone. I had a bizarre dream last night that Kimi was presenting This Morning, i can't actually remember much from the dream but just Kimi with Fern Britton getting really excited about Eastenders and stuff... huh.
As in Mr Christine. Hmmm... maybe a job for both of them on Play School? I take it CBBC is Childrens BBC?
I had a dream I was hanging out with Lewis at the Mclaren factory... he seemed in a good mood...)
Or, refer here for more info on the whole Sidepodcast phenomenon:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Happy+Days+-+The+Fonz+and+Mr+C/?t=anon
A theory about Bernie's points system obsession: Two of the least appealing races last year were Valencia and Singapore. Without Ferrari pitlane shenanigans, they wouldn't have been worth watching. Valencia in particular looked fenced-up like a prison camp, and neither course encouraged overtaking. Recall the last laps of Singapore in particular... With both Ferraris out of the action, Hamilton was content to follow Rosberg to the podium rather than risk any points in a crash.
So imagine Bernie's phone calls the next morning from the Singapore city council: "You promised us an exciting race! We spent billions for you! We shut down our elegant downtown and marina for a week! We choked our waterfront parkland with expensive grandstand buildings! We brought in thousands of independently powered lights just so your precious audience in Liverpool wouldn't have to change their TV habits! And in the last moments of a close race, the most exiting, best-equipped driver in your stable didn't even try to win!"
Bernie doesn't want to take those calls again if a contender makes a decision like Lewis made. The fact that the 2008 season couldn't have endied with more excitement probably doesn't play into his calculations. Bernie's a money guy, not a sports guy: When he talks freely in interviews he speaks of salesmanship and deal-making rather than athletic competition.
Who knows what promises he's made to the European broadcasters. It's a good wager that we'll see more twilight races.
Right, ITV Player has yesterdays British Touring Car Program on it....with support races.....6 hours of racing here i come :D
Right, I mentioned something yesterday that may not have been picked up.
I work as a Data Analyst and so I'm quite handy with the spreadsheet and I would like to offer my help to anyone here who would like some stats assistance (mostly for F1 stuff...)).
So you should be doing really great at Fantasy Racers right? :P
Somehow I can imagine that!
I'm doing OK, But I choose not to change my drivers yet. It didn't help that VET & KUB retired from both races but I have had two drivers on the podium both times!
he'd be right though, wouldn't he?
yeah, but you never tell bernie he's right :P
Yup, but it's a bad defence for a half-race isn't it?
Plus, it was kind of his fault that it ended early, if it started normal time then we wouldnt have had the half points problem (the benefits of hindsight!)
hehe. howdy cridland.
that is kinda the intention. partly to be difficult, but mostly because your focus is christine.
agreed. he really wants lots of night races, but costs won't allowed for it and he won't budge on the profit a circuit can take from him.
as it goes, while the first two twilight races did cause some problems, they weren't enough to deter the man from continuing the trend further.
From Jake - http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/jakehumphrey/2009/04/filling_for_britain_at_storm_t.html
Oh, one last note, apologies for no F1 Forum this week. Over 300,000 people pressed red and watched last weekend, which is incredible and justifies our decision to give you more coverage.
We are committed to it as an important and unique part of our build up. The thinking this week was that after 75 minutes of chatting, it was probably not necessary as all the angles had been covered already - and we'd run over our alloted time-slot on BBC1 anyway.
I hold my hands up, though, as I should have mentioned there would be no Forum on air but I ran out of time...
what sort of thing are you thinking, post race number crunching?
Fair play, at least he's remembered to mention it now. They talkedfor ages and ages or so about stuff as it was so it does make sense, shame he forgot though. He's still learning ;)
Anything you guys need ... I'm just offering my assistance because I notice a few people here like to use some stats and I would like to contribute...)
Yeah, we had a forum of sorts anyway - what could they have talked about for another hour?
The upside was that we had an extra hour of time yesterday...
Thanks for forgiving typos, I meant first person singular anyway.
Are you guys steamed at Lewis, or is he forgiven? The way he dashed out of the garage on Saturday made it a surprise when he was smiling and backslapping with the crew before the start of the race.
w00t!
"The Red Bullog is back and possibly better than last time. Maybe."
http://www.red-bullog.com/
I miss Rider... It was nice to have a low-voltage grown up around while the rest of us screamed and hollered.
Jake is extremely smooth though.
Still annoyed at him from my point of view but partly is because he didn't go to Trulli to apologise sooner than he did and because of the actual lying. Although I'm more annoyed at McLaren than him.
It's strange so far this season with the 'big 2 teams' how almost disrespectful they seem. We've had a lying scandal that has really rocked McLaren's boat and Ferrari struggle to get points with a driver who continues to look completely uninterested in being on the grid, more interested in getting out to have an ice cream and stroll about than to work with the team. It may just be my own view that it seemed disrespectful though.
:D :D
wooooooop
hey guys, anyone knows if Toro Rosso used the new engines for the whole weekend or only on Friday and reverted to engine no 1 for Sat and Sun ?
No need for me to come over here and pimp my t'blog then! :-)
Seems a bit slow at the moment, shall have to tinker with it a bit.
Ah yes. The page that started it all off. Why has Mr C not actually changed his name yet though?
The Airhorns are a blazing
Nice one Dank, yay for it coming back
"Jenson Button: the most gifted driver on the grid"
I have come to the startling conclusion that I don't like Ed Gorman's blog
I kinda wonder if the Ryan fellow had some sort of supervision under Dennis that he didn't have under Whitmarsh... Some people say these things happen with the stewards every day, but this time the happened to get busted. But I'd bet you don't get to be Ron Dennis without knowing exactly how much you can trust people and exactly when you have to tug the reins.
Maybe we have to forgive Kimi's weird moods, but remember, he had an ice cream AND a cola; that's a lot of junk food for a guy who needs to be as fit as an F1 driver.
I can't quite put my finger on as to why, but last year I rather enjoyed reading his blog. This year, it just seems, different? Less personal perhaps?
Why do people do that, a driver wins 2 races on the trot (in easily the best car) and he's suddenly the best thing since sliced bread. I bet he said the same thing about Hammy last year!
I think its all the "fanzone" posts because fans have a tendancy to be very biased.
(PS- Maybe the fumes from the battery fire on Friday made him delirious. Maybe F1 should insist on flywheels. They're probably greener anyway. Any physicists in the house?)
Don't you just love how GPWeek cant deal with the text wrap on page 2 - Abu Dhabi advert. Everyweek, love it
Me, I don't know if you saw my e-mail. Not a hassle at all as I'm sure you're working I don't know if you check that one all the time
I emailed Will Buxton (editor) about this the first time I saw it. Give him his dues, he replied within about five minutes to tell me that it was intentional! It's an advert that has been laid out that way! Pretty dire effort if you ask me.
seriously?!
it just looks odd to me, i cant understand any of that paragraph
I'd love to see every sector time of every lap for every driver that includes how much fuel they were carrying (estimate based on pit stop stationary time?) and what tyre they were on.
Can this already be done somewhere? Forix?
Last year before finding streams on the net (thanks SPC) I used to 'watch' the race via Live Timing because the broadcast was always delayed in Australia. I'd tape the race and watch it the next day.
Yup! My email I sent a fortnight ago:
Will's response:
I'm sending out a crisis call to anyone who can extract the video from the Murray Walker BBC blog and drop.io it. It's not available in my area!
thats quite genius haha
scratch that I just noticed the huge 'if you are watching from outside the UK' link. I = fail, again.
Afternoon everyone.
Anything interesting happened while I've been forced to visit the offce to answer the phones this morning?
I hate how even the interviews and Murray are geolocked. TBH, Murray's blog wasn't that great last time anyway...
Last question from LA this morning (not even dawn here, the moon just set).
Let's say someone needed a few minutes of a d@rm*th torrent of the 2007 Turkish GP seeded for a short time... Would this be a place to inquire?
No encouragement of copyright violation or similar misconduct intended... Just curious.
nope!
fair enough. we do f1 torrents here, but torrents of the legal kind.
google is your friend ...)
me, are you computer guy or a TV or both? Presumably you two grind out all this material for love rather than money. But have faith, when the revolution comes you'll be rolling in wealth. (That's one reason I want you to have a better nickname... Easier to sell sponsorships when the eager but thick-headed investors come sniffing around)
a TV guy I meant to say... These podcasts are all remarkably tight quality wise, better than most enthusiast stuff on the internet. Either there's a pro behind the web/IT side, or a pro behind the audio/video side, or a really aggressive hobbyist for both.
very much appreciate the comments cridland, keep 'em coming ;)
i'm curious why you're singling only myself out though? christine has put together every single audio podcast since day one and she's an excellent editor and producer. she's also done more video work in the past 6 months than i have. my job nowadays mostly involves commenting and html coding.
also, if there's any sponsorship going around, i would argue that an energetic, knowledgeable and talented female formula 1 fan is of far more interest to those with deep pockets, than a nameless, camera shy geek. wouldn't you?
*snigger* Ralf Schumacher has said that Hamilton isn't the first liar in F1.
Well Mr "I'm the third best driver in F1" Schumacher... I suspect that you may be right. ;)
me/Mr C/whatever your name is, have you seen this:
http://www.sofaf1.com/2009/04/sofaf1-championship-2009-round-2.html
Something to be pleased about!
Ah shugar. Forgot about that, but knowing my record in my other predo league, I'd have done crap
9 points!! yay!
i (heart) sofa f1.
:)
As long as it doesn't get turned into half points or you aren't allowed to combine your score then I think it's a great start for you!
Its useless. ;)
And she has three blogs. Is that the exception to your 'everyone must have a blog' rule?
Props to C; but I've met tragically few women, especially aspiring talents, who really want to spend time making chromakeys look as good as possible.
You could call yourself Nigel the Gnarled Gnome and that would discourage unnecessary attention, leaving Christine in the forefront... But in that first meeting with the venture capitalists, everyone would know who Christine was talking about when she said "...And of course, we're going to need a travel budget for Nigel, too..."
The web continues to steal attention from people who used to watch TV. But it's complicated, and it might go easier for the money people if things had easy-to-grasp names. (Although I love the real-time doohickey for being called the real-time doohickey.)
There's a fellow named Leo Laporte in California, a radio guy and former talent on a cable tech-news channel, who produces about a dozen podcasts a week as well as a live daily video feed of himself working in the office (with two chatrooms to boot.) Audio downloads are here. During west coast business hours, there's usually a video feed here, and sometimes he reruns videos overnight. Some of the shows aren't fascinating, but does a lot of them.
So far as I know, he's your only peer as a cottage operation. (And with a broadcast radio show, he makes a good living at it!)
more than one is good too (although also patently insane).
don't worry leo is our idol, and we're only here doing this because of him. we podcast because he podcasted first and we do live shows because he did live shows first.
I think one of our biggest principles is not to change what we do to attract the "money people". I can't speak for Mr C, but I've got no interest in asking VCs for a travel budget. Therefore, if me wants to be called me, or Mr C, or BananaHead, then that's completely fine.
...Anyone else think BananaHead could catch on?
Awww, no.
Hehe. Who can tell in these fickle times.
I have 5. But I'm strange.
Yes. You drink Flowery beers! ...)
what be the other three?
You should have one for F1
One to talk about other sport you like
One to waffle about yourself
3 seems decent
Odd that I only have 1.
Hey guys :)
You aright Scotty? Catch the race?
mwahahahaha... Ahem... The others are even less well updated than the two you know about...
And at least 2 of them are secret!!!
But here's the music equivelent of SofaF1. With several guest posters (but very poorly updated these days)

Brilliant stuff yet again! ...)
another fantastic effort. I love Barrichello Monster.
lmao... barrichello's zombie eyes scare me though :(
The cartoon video is brilliant though. The tank!!
Great little video with the Barrichello "tank" too :D
:D
The tank was great.
Right everyone...
Me does a lot behind the scenes for Sidepodcast and he doesn't always get the credit he deserves... And we all know that he was SOoooooooo very excited about having got the picture he took in F1 racing (on page 22 donchaknow)...
So I have set up this site: http://meandpage22.co.uk/
Go over, take a look at the pictures, and upload your own pictures of you and page 22 of F1 Racing!!!!
Awwwww, that's a great idea!
*Thinks of a way to do it without ruining his secret identity
inspired!! :D
Haha I love it!
If the Australian issue has a different cover, as sometimes happens, does it count as being published in two different magazines? ;)
I think it counts :)
Taking the picture of myself on London Bridge this morning was one of the more embarrassing things I have ever done for sidepodcast!
Is it wrong that I'm jealous you got to buy a new domain name? It is, isn't it? I go find help now.
hahaha... I am always very excited when I get to do that... I might have quite a few (fewer than 100 though)
oh.my.god!
:)
alex... i'm stunned.
Well that's the main thing :)
it even has its own drop.io site! awesome!! :D
Brilliant!! Haha... :D
But it was in RaceCar Engineering as well wasn't it? Was it on page 22 of that mag as well?
This one actually says Sidepodcast though :)
If ever there was a need for a poll, this is it.
How many domain names do you own? 5 or less etc.?
So who will be the first non Alex person to post a picture?
New commenter Fourstar is chomping at the bit.
won't be me, it's not out here yet :(
When does it come out?
Tempted...
:D
Go Lukeh!
I will as soon as I get home.
Pleeease do :)
not entirely sure, they have removed the 'next issue on sale' from the magazine. it's usually a Wednesday so my guess is the 8th.
Once I find my Beemer cap, aye.
Yay!
w00t!
I just imagine Mr C at the office. Looking at the screen bewildered and people not sure if he's okay and then somebody comes over to ask him and then he has to explain THAT!
I've added the photo to your drop.io, alex :D
I call it... 'Me and page 22 spend some quality time together'
And apologies for poor quality, it's off my phone
Lukeh!
http://drop.io/meandpage22/asset/dsc00559-jpg
Yay, that's brill :)
Who'd have thought it would be so hard for me to take a picture of myself...i'm struggling lol
It's really hard if you're trying to get some background in as well
I'm trying to get me and the magazine in....its not going well...
You Sir, are my hero right now. The songs, the pub visits, the excursions and so on. I'm quite jealous actually...
I've struggled to try and get me in one with it, but it just keeps going wrong....
so.....the best i can do is...
http://drop.io/meandpage22/asset/jonandpage22-jpg
Is that a racing glove I spy as well?
I still have to find th damn magazine... when I looked at Copenhagen Central Station the other day, they had loads of car mags... including the classic tractor mag but no F1 racing :-(
How about the use of a mirror?
maaaaaaaaaybe
Blast that Classic Tractor mag!
Can someone scan the article into drop.io? I'm sure Stuart won't mind ...)
You could get it when you're over here for the Sidepodscience meet.
Why thank you!
I am sure I am supposed to be harnessing this creativity into my novel. But for the time being... this is a lot of fun!
But I want to read it now :-(
Maybe I can look in Stansted when I fly in to the UK on Thursday...
Oh yeah, you're an author as well! Next you'll be on Oprah and I'll have to make you my nemesis.
As I have nothing better to do this afternoon, have another!
http://drop.io/meandpage22/asset/dsc00575-jpg
Me and page 22 play the Xbox. :D
Well we can be friends for now :)
i may have just choked on my tea :D
Okay people, don't forget that if you want to get your name in the bright lights of F1 Digest, then all you have to do is post a brief couple of sentences summarising how you felt the action went (or didn't go as the case may be) yesterday.
If you have already done this, then simply point me in the right direction and I'll go dig it out.
Thanks :)
any time i try and form proper thoughts and summaries they get pushed out by 'NOO HEIKKI NOOOO;
Aww. I could just use that :)
I love Glock even more now. Wasn't he just brilliant yesterday in the rain, went on the right tyres at the right time and unlucky to only finish third. Button I'm now scared of, if that car is that quick when its not to the max, the rest are in trouble
it's a very Buemi like NOOO
I will do my best.
I appear to be on meandpage22 drop.io now.
Right all, will be back later to check on the newly formed "Alex's procrastination" site :D
And Glock!!
:)
Yeah, he happend to be in the magazine, two and two fit together.
he was at the back :P he was bought forward i see
Yeah. Can you believe that was the only pic of him in the mag, shocking
Malaysia Race Quote:
That was possibly the best half-race I have ever seen. Overtaking, fighting for position... some great action out there today! However, maybe I wished too hard when I asked for rain the other day ;-)
It will be interesting to see when all the cars have KERS - as it seemed that the best battles were between KERS and non-KERS cars. Finally, Ferrari will have to be very worried as they have made the worst start since 1992 and they get things very wrong today - how much do they miss Ross Brawn now?
So, the fact that neither Whitmarsh nor Haug mention Kovi in the post-race quotes is:
a) Because what can you say about a man that can't make it round one lap
b) Because they feel like they need to start mending things with Lewis
c) a coincidence
?
d) What's the name of our other driver who is a bit rubbish and looks like Beavis?
Fear my McLaren tinted glasses, but I think option a. Kovi's own quote says about all you can of someone who can't get back to the start/finish line.
What did happen to Beavis anyway? He had a right 'Tank Slapper' in the really fast corners...
No idea, car twitchy? Didn't get enough heat in the tyres? Rubbish car/driver?
Other than him saying "I made a mistake" it has never been mentioned again. Wasn't even shown on a replay.
I must own up, my support of him started as an in-joke that I "couldn't handle 2007 with no Finns in the team" and somehow has blossomed into actual support.
The entire quote from Heikki:
My start was okay. I was taking it quite carefully and was trying to slot in behind Lewis, then I just lost the rear and spun out. It was my mistake. Game over.
I don't buy it. Did you see how violent the car snapped out of line? I bet you he pressed the KERS button too early and it spun the car off!
He probably had to get out of the throttle, lost downforce and when it snapped sideways, he just couldn't catch it. Could be the opposite though - he was tank slapping and decided to try planting the foot.
Only if they want me to call up a tactical nuclear strike on their house!
Sorry :-(
I will be buying the magazine - just that it hasn't arrived in the land of the Viking yet ...)
haha! :D That's brilliant!
I'm gonna have to get a copy now! :D
The moderation queue doesn't like me suggesting I might buy F1 racing...
There was a rather interesting article on page 70 as well (about designing a wing mirror).
Everything else in the magazine seems to be written by Bradly Lord.
did you not see the tremayne near the front? grr.
Well, when you work in an office you have to pass the time somehow.
Me? I'm going to bake a lemon drizzle cake. Adios for now...
just got off the phone with a guy from song/bmg/universal/acmerecordings, he asked if he could harness your powers to tackle a profligate 85y/o file sharing granny from truro?
Did your brain get hacked by Martin Whitmarsh or something???

Malaysian Grand Prix Review
I was unable to see the race live but I was successful in avoiding all news sources until I was able to view a recording of the race despite my brothers' best efforts to ruin it by telling me the results. The race was very enjoyable to watch right from the start and I liked watching Nico take the lead out of the first corner. It was disappointing to see him fade away during the race once again but still it is exciting that he has been in the points and constantly challenging at the top so far this season. Ferrari were disappointing once again and it is amazing that a slower McLaren has more points than them even when stewards keep on taking points off. Glock was the highlight of the race and had some of the best overtaking maneuvers on the likes of Kimi and Alonso and once again in the later stages when he was on the right tyres and driving around on the outside of everyone. It was a shame to see him demoted down to third when he could have easily been first had the race ended a little earlier. The end was a bit anticlimactic but the race more than made up for the excitement even in the short duration that it lasted. Furthermore it is great to see my Fantasy Racers team move up to 18th. Even though it is still early, the Brawn looks too fast to catch and Button is running away with the championship.
Hey Monis from New Jersey! I used to live in New Jersey in Maplewood!
Thank you!! :)
justice!
;)
Malaysian Grand Prix Review
Does it seem to be the more experienced teams that are doing better? As Brawn, Toyota, Red Bull and Williams seem to have had more stable and more experienced team management over the winter. Perhaps that has been the advantage so far. Overall it does seem that whatever the weather that Brawn is QUICK, QUICK, QUICK!
there's a lotta love in the monitors today.

I have no idea what's going on.
Simple but it does sum up the race for me.
Hmm, sounds very familar... Well done to you!

Does anyone know why the link to my Driver's Tattoo's page was deleted off the fun and games section of the qwiki?
I put it into the From the Comments section, seems better listed under there
Ah cool. But you forgot to move the page (or do I do that?)
That I did forget to do. That I was going to do but you did it, so all good.
Moved the page I have, yeeeees...)
I go through Maplewood every day on the train. I live in Rockaway, Morris County. When were you here?
That is good news.
Between 1982 and 1986. But two of my best Maplewood friends were just here last week, and another of them just earlier in the month. So I'm still in touch quite a lot.
Have added the SPC Towers contingent:

Hope it was not too long to summarize.
wtf? I rarely read Ed Gorman. The first time I came across him was early last season and the garbage he was spouting resulted in me posting a comment asking if he knew anything about motor racing or was this his first season.
He was team manager until last season when Ron promoted him to sporting director. There was no sporting director previously so I assume there was no significant difference in his role. Forget the fact that Whitmarsh is now called the team principal. Nothing has changed at McLaren.
this year is his third i believe :)
I am now in the pub with page 22 (have dropped picture to meandpage22.co.uk)
I ordered a pint of beer like normal. But Page 22 is well hard he ordered (as pictured) a glass of wasabi peas) :)
I'd keep an eye on page 22 if I was you...!
I've just been following some more people on Twitter and found this from Lord Drayson of Drayson Racing.
you wouldn't believe the tactics my brothers resorted to. Imagine drivng 275 miles on Sunday without ever looking back in the rear view mirror because the name of the winner was stuck on the rear window. If F1 drivers can drive with only looking at the side mirrors then so can I.
That is much before my time. That is around the time I was born.
Incidently, that song is by Fountains of Wayne who are from my old hometown of Wayne, NJ.
Wow cool. I really like Those guys and you saying you were going in on the train made me think of them. Did you ever go to the fountains shop?
Ah I was pretty young then too. I was born in 1980.
good evening everyone! i hope your all well :)
Hi lou, you must do this;

erm... wow... just wow. i'll have a read through the comments, and catch up with news and then see what i can do ;)

:)
I was just going to say from earlier after being nice to Mr C all day I wonder if he'll get in trouble for saying Christine has 3 blogs (At my count I make it 4)
Bruno Mantovani on the Malaysian race: http://br.video.yahoo.com/watch/4813270/12842020 :D
I don't even know how many I have, so I wouldn't be mad at him :)
The man just gets better and better!
Liuzzi will be driving in A1GP this year - http://a1.gpupdate.net/en/news/2009/04/06/liuzzi-joins-a1-team-italy/
Good news for Team Italy!
They may actually get some points. :D
I said she has 3 blogs. GMM told me ...)
They loved the pay drivers. Never really had a good one until now ...)
:) That's okay then :)
I make it Sidepodcast.com, f1minute.com, smarterthanyouraverage.com and thebbcblog.wordpress.com
Actually there's domain name purchasing to be done on that last one ;)
Hmm, okay, well, thebbcblog has finished, it was just an experiment. But then there is iheartfranck.com as well to take it's place.
Hold on and http://iheartfranck.com/
you forgot the iheartfranck, and iheartleseb
Ah I thought it might have done... I wasn't sure!
iheartleseb also no longer exists. Am thinking about starting iheartrob though :)
Did that blog post mention new helmet design?
ah right., hehe you so should :D
Stay cool baby!
and the franck one
I really need a Timo website
Felipe baby stay cool, we're getting your white visor
oh my goodness i love it so much
:D pmsl at that
timotime?
Is there a song in that? ;)
Stop...
Thank you and goodbye ;)
Is it more like Hammer Time or Chico Time?
I need a WHITE VISOR!!
Trust me, I'm planning my own Timo song.
timotei?
:)
:D
Timo, there's no need to feel down.
I said Timo, pick yourself off the ground...?
Before YMCA?
:)
I promised YMCA first.
I think we need a wiki page to make sure we know what you've promised us.
This could get probalamatic
Or however you spell that word
BBC advertising the Malaysian Grand Prix
Heck, it's got four wheels and wings, must be F1, right?
Sheesh... must be the same people that thought Legard was a good idea too!
Check out his latest animation:
http://br.video.yahoo.com/watch/4813270/12842020
I absolutely love that. :D
Alex gave me an idea, thought I should get my own while it's available
http://drop.io/bassano/asset/pint-jpg
Your own pint?
Am just editing the Debrief and regarding Legard, Mr C says: He is the weakest link and it's time to say goodbye.
I did not get that at the time :)
:D
My own drop
Title!
Though I think he is completly wrong about that.
So once everyone has a blog... is the next thing for everyone to have a dropio?
It's quite tempting isn't it.
Ooh Heroes time, back in 45
Haha, brilliant.
I missed it too :-(
It's free if you only want a ltlle bit of storage. A bit more is not expensive either. Handy if you need to share 'the odd file' with a friend or two
i've had one for a while, tis quite useful for storing work and stuff
Meh :-(
Anyone here watch "Mad Men"?
Not yet, have the 1st series ready when I have the time.
Watch out for 'Lie to Me' with Tim Roth, should be over here soon-ish, is good
I occasionally go and sit in the park and watch the drunken blokes shout at trees. That count?
Yeah sure, why not?
I've just realised, with regard to meandpage22.co.uk
a) I now need to go and buy a copy of the magazine
b) the only person guaranteed not to appear on the site is, well, me. Oh the irony (and I don't mean the Alanis Morrisette type, that's just bad timing). :)
He's on the wiki, so he could I s'pose
Is it ironic to have a song titled as such that isn't about irony?
It is said that is the reason the song is so named. I don't think so.
Is it ironic that everyone liked that song and then realised it was quite crap really?
Hrm... I don't know if you guys saw this, but there are some very wallpaper-able photos from Malaysia over at jalopnik... here.
They even have one of button doing his best finger-guns pose.
Oh good god... Max's spec engine idea is getting sillier.
Same engine for F1, F2 and WRC.
Same basic block, but turbocharged for F1, N/A for F2 and either turbocharged or N/A for WRC.
*smacks head on desk*
Link?
Ehhhhhhhh!!!!
Back to the future with that one then?
Good to see Brawn trust him, they have his blood type on his suit
http://www.f1technical.net/news/12085
i was really really hoping no one from here would find that photo.... at least he is happy :s
That's been on every driver's suit since...forever really ...)
It's a good photo, actually!
I've been humming Right Here Right Now to myself all day by Fatboy Slim... for some reason it'd make a good f1 related song in my opinion.
hehe i know :)
Manurfacturers would leave the sport and i would laugh continuously for months before i cried....:P
I agree, I wish every driver looked that happy after a win.
Indeed. They take it a stage further with the US president, they keep some of his blood in the presidential limo. As the Now Show pointed out, this makes him a target for vampires :)
It looks like someone's just opened their door to him saying "Happy Birthday!"
Not sure why the guy in the background would be there though... ;)
hhehehehe
it was on the 2007 fia gala video wasn't it? :)
Has nobody noticed this rather large gaffe from Auntie Beeb???
It's Fernando Alonso demanding in the pit garage again...
ooh it think it was now you mention it... the FIA are several years ahead of me then :D
That would be a first...)
In terms of videos, they're A-ok in my book! It's the actual f1 where they fall short :P
I leave the site for a few minutes and you lot post another 99 comments. How am I supposed to have time to do anything else?
Anything else? what is this concept :D
what is this anything else?!
Welcome to stage 8 :)
whooops, double post
I missed that. :)
It's a bit cruel though. Mind you, so was comparing him to Alan Partridge.
and the jeremy's post is full of daily comments too. as a temporary measure am disabling non-daily posts from the doohickey until i have time to install the colour fix kathi suggested.
a bit rash i know, but we're now spending more time moving comments between threads (very forum-esque), than we are doing anything productive. it's completely my fault and i apologise in advance.
more later...
Now that is interesting because last week somewhere I read a comment from Audi about making a multi-class engine along the same lines. I assumed he was just trying to get some publicity but either Audi and Max are together on this or Max read the same thing and decided the idea was insane enough to be one of his own.
I would like everyone to give Legard more time to mature into the role. He seemed excited at the right times and he read the race better than Brundle twice (once per weekend seems to be his ticket) and that's no mean feat.
well the F2 engine is an audi...so.....
He is kinda spoiling the enjoyment of listening to Brundle's commentary though, it's getting to the stage where I may have to switch to cbeebies to avoid hearing him speak and I find that sad
sounds like it's necessary if it's causing this much of a problem. A shame though, but hope you get it all sorted soon :)
Thank you Alex. I agree with it all.
There was an example the other week where I actually replied to something on the doohicky in one thread and it appeared in the other thread... So while it's often a mistake I think there may also be a bug.
Has anyone read Chris Balfe's latest article on Pitpass? I decided to stick with the website even after the recent controversy about it on here, based on the fact that in the past it could be relied upon for providing a decent amount of original F1-related views.
The most recent article really is a new low. It comes across as incredibly bitter, and a good third is comprised of Mr. Balfe detailing some of his political opinions. If I wanted to read such content, there's already plenty of it out there in the blogosphere already.
I've read that Mr. Balfe no longer has the access he used to, which I guess would explain both the bitterness and his new-found need to write about material largely unrelated to Formula One.
I certainly won't be regularly visiting Pitpass in the future.
hopefully shouldn't affect the daily convo, and mostly no-one will notice. temporary fix, promise.
Dear oh dear me. Falling down the pan over there.
I am only at stage 3. It says so on the wiki.
Nope, thank god
Your on the wiki, identi.ca etc, so defo at least stage 4
How about a group shot at the science museum next week, but with pg 22 nicely obscuring the (adopts R T davies voice) 'face of 'me' '???
also true. flibster's comments went mental last week and he couldn't have achieved that kind of chaos even if he tried.
Definatly done stage 5 as well, been on a live show, you've also hosted one. Your on stage 6 mate.
oooooh i like
too much chocolate pudding
Don't you believe it. ;) :D
ooooh i did that too, though i was going mad :D
Hehe. He does try quite hard though :)
I really don't mind him. I can't see him as annoying. Still I used to have this argument about people who thought Murray Walker was annoying. So maybe it is me.
No such thing!
Indeed. just like custard.
I have been boycotting it since his mate's rant about JYS.
Murray Walker annoying? He made a few howlers but wasn't annyoing when doing.
Good to hear.
I think the young guy who's hosting the program is doing a good job
It's all going too fast for me.
Jake, of CBBC fame. It's still wierd for me as i grew up watching him, but he does really well
Jake's been superb so far, he's very calm and collected. Plus he's really into it, his blog, all the interveiws he's done, the conferences he's attended.
I'm delighted for him because he seems to really enjoy doing F1.
Um, you missed out walking and talking.
Someone earlier said they missed steve...i was speechless....
It's so impressive I find it hard to believe he's doing it :D
You would not believe the criticism he used to get. There were huge numbers of people who hated his commentary. I spent years telling him that when he went they would change their minds and most of the replies I got were less than complimentary about my judgement.
Mind you I used to really like Jim Rosenthal
I'm liking him. Can imagine him getting a little stressed with having to talk for 75 minutes while the cars were sat on the river..err... track.
Also, went to the same school as me. :D
Jake is an unexpected star.
I like this plan!
Not having Steve is one of the best things about this coverage!
I can't be the only one who though that he looked like Count Von Count from Sesame Street?
It's the 6 degrees of separation thing .. do you know anyone famous in F1 .. I can see another wiki page looming
yes....but he's moved to BTCC...BOOOO!!!!
LOL true but he was good :D
He annoys me most when he tries to make it look like he knows what he's talking about...
sounds like a brilliant idea!
That was a facebook thing I believe once.
errrr... A couple of pages worth. Having worked with various teams helps. :D
I have a 2nd cousin who drove Rubens 2003 ferrari
i havent seen it yet, because the itv player isnt working for BTCC, works for all other programs but not btcc :( i know he's gonna be bad though
I said hello to Ted Kravitz.
That's a great idea
Murray was
[bassano ducks, again]
Certainly is.
Is someone bringing a recording device so we could do a SidepodcastLIVE on FIA-diffuser-appeal-gate?
I think they were throwing stuff at him :)
Isn't that the day before?
:D
Results of the appeal come out on the 14th - just in time for a natter on the 15th. :D
But will they announce the verdict on the same day as the trial, sorry - hearing?
SidePodPanel on Tour
More like SidePodChat surely.
Of course, these SidePod prefixes are getting out of hand
And don't call me Shirley? ;)
no f's, no s's, no d's :)
we can't do pinging on the road, so it'll be a chat.
Who needs a pinger when you've got gavin :D
:D
:D
Sorry Shir.. Bassano ;)
Sounds like a "Just Juice" advert
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjPqzvR4ehM
:D
see what i did there ;)
you want some suffixes with those letters?
Get the sound files and play them in media player?
:D
It's very smiley here tonight
It would be a massive Panel though, if everyone listed on the Wiki is coming..
16 people or more
No penalties! We're in a good mood!
SidePodMob
High definition panel
Bring the macbook. I keep meaning to add my own pings to a panel show, but haven't got the kit to do it.
tis okay, i'll watch ;) that's one less :)
We could have a live studio audience with laughs and clapping
That's not allowed.
If we take over the canteen ;)
If people really want to do a panel I;d sit out and let them to cut down numbers
but...but....
...
Lou and I could keep score
YOU COULD HOST!!!!
i like that idea :D
I'd suggest six new faces if I'm honest.
erm.. no.
I always love it when a comedy show says: "this show was taped before a live studio audience."
Before what exactly? Before the audience came into the studio?
:D
Not even in a panda suit?
final digest of the weekend from christine.
not a chance.
That's what Mr C said!
http://www.balloons.net/images/Inflatable_Costumes/big/Panda Costume with original.jpg
You know you want to!
good grief I've just seen Steven Roy's (I'm only on stage 3) comment count for the month!
Is that a panda/rhino cross?
Oooh err a panda with a VPL
there is a difference... i actually mean no
No idea.
All I know is I've linked to it a lot...
It's got Kimi's ice-cream
Of cooooourse you do...
Is there a denial stage? I think he may be at that point.
So did he.
There is no denial stage!!!
that must be 3.1 then
The difference, Mr C wasn't exactly sober
:)
oi! no, you're right, i wasn't.
:D lol
what's the podcast number for the christmas party?
haha this is an awesome idea :)
right i suppose i should participate in this...
http://drop.io/meandpage22/asset/louandpage22-01-jpg
http://drop.io/meandpage22/asset/louandpage22-02-jpg
Late 80's, 87 I think
Just checking my incoming links on the blog.. some 15 of the last 40 visitors arrived to find the song the BBC used to close the coverage.
sadly live videos are offline (aside from sundays) due to bandwidth / costs issues, so you can't go look. they'll be back nearer the end if the week though.
im not sure the podcast gives you a full feel for it....you need to watch the live recording :D
hehehe i love the fact i just posted a comment about the meandpage22 thing and it got moderated! hehe :D
found it :D
Hmm... same happened to me...
Aye, but not the party bit, just the awards and the 12 days of xmas thingy
Yup, 12 days starts at 23:10 of Ep 87
ahh, the memories.
That was amazing. :D
I did have some lengthy negotiations today at the office about being off on SidepodScience day... And it looks like it might be possible but I will have to go to the office in the morning...
But I see you guys are meeting at 1pm ish! Woo and indeed hoo!
Is the plan to have eaten earlier and then science it up? And then see what happens after?
And I heard Christine is running away to join the circus over the weekend. Presumably she's back for this?
Panda Circus?
w00t!
I'm going in early in the morning to taunt everyone in the office for a few minutes * ;) * and then I'm off to do some shopping. Will probably find a burger or steak or something while shopping.
Then a taxi to the Science Museum
it is funny
More records Flibster?
Might be.
The other half found the other 2 though - and the credit card bill. Damn...
Oops, looks like your clean up jobs don't extend beyond the bathroom then ;)
I thought we had come to a decision on you hosting a panel
Oh, I'm gonna be laughing for so long now...
She took the name of the list
Bathroom is spotless. :D
Obvious thing is, if I buy more records - put them on the connect card. ;)
We need more cupcakes!!
Don't know what you mean.
i'll host a panel... i said i would... just not at the science museum...
Any chance these could be part of Jenson's helmet design ideas?
http://jalopnik.com/5200296/spooky-motorcycle-helmets-are-spooky-inexpensive
It's .. erm big!
You never said, "but not at the Science Museum" earlier, talk about being conditional, yeesh! :D
Kimi should wear one. It'd look good in a Ferrari!
By the way... For everyone who thinks that I am the one who started the singing trend from Sidepodcast I would like to make a call back to the comment that started it all:
http://12seconds.tv/channel/sidepodcast/29503
It was my fault and I goaded Christine into it. But it was awesome... And it was also the weekend that Buemi became Mr Potato Head!
This would look good on him
http://jalopnik.com/photogallery/spookymotorcyclehelmets/1007827882
I see Jenson's Design a Helmet competition has returned.
We discussed it for a couple of minutes after that and Lou decided that she really wanted to do it.
And I've just got that bloomin song out of my head, I HATE YOU
;)
We must have had singing before that?
I hope that I have provided for you all the ultimate ear worm :)
You'll still be singing it tomorrow morning!!!!
Don't hate, change. :D
Quality!
it was more than a couple of minutes and i don't really want to do it ;)
:D
:) :)
Grrr
It's only 150 more than Lou and 300 more than Gavin.
Was the Giggles rap not before that?
It's possible... I can't think what it was though.
Hmmmmmmmm ;)
Nooo. Giggles rap was about Vettel.
Erm... 'me' had a guitar in one of the podcasts?
No singing, though...
1210 more than me in 4th though.
Ah but it was the headline count that caught my eye :D .. and I remember when we all ooed and ahhed when Lou did 1100 in the off season
I know, but when was it?
I don't think so... That was November I think
OK 3 minutes and you do. You just probably won't realise till afterwards.
Yeah, the last Panel was in November and it was in the week before
Somebody did a song about Lewis. Austrians? Australians?
That was on the podpanel I hosted.
There were no Austrians. ;)
blimey a few weeks on holiday and i'm already 2nd... i have been revising, honest.
Really? Thought it was more recent then that...
Wasn't that a clip from somewhwhere else though
This ( http://12seconds.tv/channel/sidepodcast/29503 ) must've have been before drop.io then
haha.
It was repeated in one of the end of year shows I think
Nope.
I'm not sure why that idea didn't last?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&hl=en-GB&v=d6opMZBux1w
Have just seen the 1st ep with the "12 seconds" explanation.
New one on me
I haven't been up there for ages. :(
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/12/01/sidepodpanel-absolutely-stunned/
THe one with the Giggles Rap. December 1st
Right that was from http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/11/04/episode-83-i-dont-know-if-anyone-will-remember-that/
Which is also in November so I think it was the Lewis song that set me off for the Vettel rap. I thought it was post Mark Webber breaking his leg when was that?
Which idea, the 12 seconds one?
That was in November??? I was thinking July or something. Only a few moths out!
Yup.
:)
Urgh...
The moths do butterfly by don't they ;)
I couldn't get it to work reliably. The site didn't like my webcam, or something wasn't working. Would have to redo each video about six times because the audio would cutout, or it would skip frames.
I reaaally wanted it to work as a replacement to SPC diaries, but it was just too flaky. I don't know if they've fixed it by now though.
:D
Giggles, that deserves 5 mins on the naughty step ;)
Ah, ok.
*sits on step*
It's not easybeing green when your halfway down the stairs ;)
Choose either one song or the other. ;)
:D
The punishment doesn't quite work if you brought your iPhone ;)
:D
Should we be expecting live commenting from the naughty step?
Force India video podacst "pitlane practice" is quite good, around 3 mins long
*video podcast
it looks good :)
Jumping off laptop now to watch schindlers list in bed, night everyone :)
Bye lukeh
ooooh i've been meaning to watch that film for ages..
G'night Lukeh, in fact, am heading off myself. Probably an episode of Enterprise before sleeps.
G'night all
Night Bassano, Night Luke
http://www.mygale.fr/control/upload/231208_165455_2571_gallery08-59.jpg
This picture has to be worthy of a Sidepodcaptioncompetition....
Night Bassano
"Head and shoulders, knees and toes"
Night you two. :)
"Ah crap, I don't think I can cheat my way out of this. Oh yeah, I'm in red"
'
"OH WAIT, this is Formula Ford, no FIA to get involved! Darn!"
"Where did the steering wheel go???"
I forgot to put my ice cream in the fridge before the start.
Shhh
Buemi: "Wrong car? Nooooooo"
'ah man! where's my cap gone! i put it on earlier....'
"I need new wheels, I need new wheels god dammit"
"Baby, stay cool baby, on its way"
:D :D
"I hope Christine likes the car now we've removed those fugly wings."
Good night all, see you tomorrow. :)
Bye Jackie.
night Jackie
Night Jackie
Night Jackie. :)
I am way behind the curve on this one but still its funny. I came across the 2008 IgNobel prize winners earlier. They are awarded for achievements that first make people laugh then make them think. Manly think how could people decide to research stuff like that. As an example the medecine prize was given to a group who demonstrated that high priced fake medecine are more effective than low priced fake medecine.
http://improbable.com/ig/winners/
Ditto
Good night Jackie.
I bet the winners of the Economics Prize didn't mind spending countless hours researching. ;)
i've just been listening to Jenson's audio diary from Malaysia....one thing he says that i thought was interesting was that he did his final quali lap with a control box loose in the car, and it was moving and hitting him on the ankle so he was pretty cautious under braking.... however he still got pole...
he's just too darn good :D
i was actually thinking that the car was good, but yeah he's good too :D
theres DC last year complaining the steering columns rubbing on the pedals, pfft, you wouldt get jenson complaining ;)
ahaha :D
After 3 years complaining, people probably stopped listening...
