The Fryiest of all the week's days
Hello again, habitants of this lovely Sidepodworld we seem to have ended up on. How has your week been? Once again we have found ourselves coming towards the weekend and it's my goal today to send you out with that Friday feeling having plenty to share and going out on a high! Most importantly though for people in the UK, today is the day that Senna is finally out in the cinema's for all to see after all the acclaim and excitement it's received. So go and see it! Go! I;m watching you intently. *watches on* then come back and ready my Daily!
Paddock News
They seem to be Virgin on the edge of failure, for what it's Wirth - Late last night we found out the news that Wirth Research and their crazy CFD ways of making Formula 1 cars is no longer connected to the Marussia Virgin team. To be honest I've never been convinced by Nick Wirth and the whole CFD approach to making a car so maybe it's for the best for Virgin because they have been an almighty disappointment this year. I know it's only their second year but even HRT seem to have made progress. Chyeah, the team with the multi-million technology system losing to the team that struggled to even get in! Come on!!
I wish I was very much mistaken - If there's one thing I love about the history of Formula 1 it's hearing older races being commentated on by the utter legend that is Murray Walker and it seems on Sunday evening on BBC2 at 8pm there's going to be a program on looking at Murray's life in motorsport and the golden voice behind the mic. It's incredible that he's nearly 90 years old and still actively out and about with the sport he loves. Looking forward to this one.
Elsewhere
Fourty Love - Today sees the Semi Finals kick off of the French Open with two massive matches - Federer vs Djokovic and Nadal vs Murray. Just typing them out is exciting enough but I'm excited as hell to see how these play out, and as you can see in the link, Murray seems confident he can beat Nadal even on clay which should be interesting. I do hope he does though. Whilst keeping the tennis theme going, I just have to share this video that Christine posted earlier this week in the comments of Mansour Bahrami that absolutely blew me away. I know Amy and Lou are huge fans but now I've seen the footage it's totally understandable why, what an utter legend!
Life from the Reserve Driver Lane - Our favourite walking wikipedia man that is Karun Chandhok has written up his thoughts and feelings about the Monaco Grand Prix weekend and being there in the whole midsts of the brilliance that it is, with the overlaying point to his article being that drivers sign up for the sport knowing full well the risks which goes without saying. I do like hearing stuff from the drivers though so it's a nice little article from Karun.
Every New Song is a Waterfall of Awesome - If you're a big Coldplay fan you may be interested to know that at 11:30am GMT today the band will be debuting the first new song off their upcoming new album later in the year, with the song called Every Teardrop is a Waterfall. Maybe they have hayfever or watched the ending to Armageddon, that's a lot of tears. I'm very excited to hear this though, feels like it's been ages apart from the Christmas song that we've heard new Coldplay. Woohoo!!
Itty Bitty Links
And now for a few final things to make your day. I've mentioned GOG.com a few times before, an online source of good old games for download at very cheap prices, and yesterday they announced a deal to gradually start selling EA Games which is a HUGE deal for them and rightly so, there could be some good classic EA games coming over the next few months. Next up, if you're into any space related activities and especially the Endeavour landing that took place earlier this week make sure you check out this range of incredible photographs relating to the sad final landing of this legendary ship. Love that ring of atmosphere around the Earth in #27. What do we reckon about this initial sneak peak into Windows 8, people? Won't lie, I think I love the user interface. It's like the Xbox 360 dashboard had a baby with Windows Mobile, and it's a huge jump for a Windows OS to look as good as this personally. But we'll see, early days yet. I feel like having a proper geek out now. Bring on E3 next week and the unveiling of Project Cafe, Nintendo's supposed successor to the Wii!
And that's that for another week my friends. Have a brilliant Friday and enjoy the lovely summer weather!
Fryday! Love it :)
Hello
I just watched a great bit on the Daily Show. Jon Stewart went off about Donald Trump eating his pizza with a fork. Not suitable to link to here, but really funny if you have a google on your own.
The youtube vids have been pulled already and the only one I can find is geolocked. I am sure I will find one soon
Fantastic
I hope so. Glad you tried to find it.
hehe Fryday! :)
hello everyone
Hi Lou. I can't wait for Fryday to come around to my part of the world.
hehe yes 3 years will make it feel like that :)
Hi Lou

I love the Mansour Bahrami link in the daily. I have watched him play many times and he is a genius
<3 Bahrami :)
Hello all
Hi Joe.
It looks like the Rays are doing well
Theres been a slide of late. But we'll be there at the end
Looks like very tight division
It will be all season
We don't start until 2200 local as the boys are in Seattle
The American East has always been Baseball's toughest Division sicne the American League was formed pretty well.
yeah and the Rays getting good just complicated matters...at a fraction of the payroll, I might add
I can't sleep :(
Is it due the excitement of waiting for Nick's present?
Hehehe. We had a bit of a disagreement...
That's unusual.
:D
I want to finish some answers I'm happy with for my form and go to bed. I really can't be bothered going to work tomorrow.
Put that on the form
:D
it's on thedailyshow.com. I've watched the video, it's hella funny. :D They also talked about the mess involving Rep. Anthony Weiner - a gold mine for any comedian. :D
#nopolitics, but yes, funny.
That's geo-locked
I'm watching Treme, an HBO series about New Orleans post-Katrina. I've been meaning to see this series for a while. It's written by the same guy who did "The Wire", David Simon.
Looks like it'll be good, character driven, what I loved so much about The Wire.
It is?? Wow. Something not geolocked for us, for once. :D
That wasn't even a politically-driven discussion! As Jon said, "he just does NOT have that." :D
I know, I'm just gun-shy since we got in trouble last time. ;)
:D
:D
Do you guys like jazz? I don't, but I can deal with the Treme soundtrack so far, it's all New Orleans-y.
It's not something I listen to a lot but in the right mood I do
Same here. The most jazz I listen to is normally at a Starbucks. :D
I was looking at my DVR list and I kept that Strauss concert from Vienna on New Year's Day. :)
That's not jazz.
No duh.
I was musing, seeing as you told me about that concert.
There is one every year
When is our next space shuttle activity, Steven?
July 8th
Launch
It's now on my calendar. It's the last one, right?
oh wait, I'll be in Edinburgh!
Yes
Intersting
I liked the first episode of Treme enough to watch the second.
It's a nice cool night here, thank goodness. Good sleeping weather. I'm going to take full advantage of it....right now.
Good night. :)
Goodnight
I just got an email from the Australian GP Corp,
On 27 July the AGPC will be holding a private screening of Senna for Gold GP Advantage Members.
Hooray! I want to go.
Is it considered sidepodpubbing if I'm all alone at the pub and commenting?

Morniiiiiing
Goodness. I'm glad I have an Autosport login, that is far too yellow.
:D
Well, it is D-Day as it were for the film
There's an actual D-Day? People have been yammering on about it for months, and will for months to come.
Speaking of which
Ping --> "Senna" http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2011/06/03/senna/
True, but maybe D-Day for those more UK-centric
ahh, being not in the UK means my Autosport looks normal :)
I might move.
we're heading into winter, it's possibly not ideal.
D-Day being what, a DVD release?
Nationwide cinema release
Ah. Cinemas. Boring :)
it's not like it's going to fail
It was epic in the cinema. I want to watch every F1 race in the cinema
:)
Who's saying it would?
One was enough for me.
Must dash. Back later for the tennis.
See you in a bit
that must mean its nap time
That sure is a LOT of fry's
its been so overhyped its bound to underperform in my opinion.
i dont think its coming out here, even if it is i would probably just get a dvd or download.
A right FRY-up one could say! :)
Fair enough, but it's not like it's being more hyped than a regular movie - we just happen to be steeped in motorsport.
Remember this is on general release, so the aim is to pick up viewers that aren't necessarily F1 fans.
This is the most overhyped movie i have ever seen. the people making it seem verry arrogant, with the most ridiculous release schedule.
How many reviews has this film had over the past 9 months? how many premieres and q&a's?
i think the whole thing is a joke just cashing in on senna.
he deserved better than that.
More overhyped than the new Star Wars films. Realistically a lot of films in this situation go through these kinds of promotion - you just might not see it because they may not fall into a category that we are exposed to.
I disagree, i have followed several films releases. i have never seen one as ridiculous as this.
Star wars had a global release date, all the pr was done ahead of that, they didnt spend 9 months choosing different release dates for every country they could...
Even this will have a more sensible release schedule! http://sniffpetrol.com/2011/06/02/2986/
Senna didn't have a global release date because no one initially wanted to pick it up. It only got noticed at Sundance, only then did countries show interest to pick it up.
Star Wars was always going to be a massive global release - they had major distributors from the offing.
Senna started out independently and only got picked up by Universal later on. For a major of independent films, it is easier to stagger release dates in order to generate as much publicity as possible.
That cant be true, because after the japan showing, they said it was coming out in Europe in spring/summer. The awad at sundance was a secondary audience one rather than the festival one
They had release dates then, they said they hoped it'd be spring / summer
Twitter seems to be saying Bahrain is going ahead.
Terrible terrible terrible ugh.
WOW. Just... wow. Very disappointing.
Nowt on Autosport yet
Just seen the Twitter note
http://twitter.com/#!/SkyNewsBreak/status/76612153402068992
Adam C retweeted it too.
that decision makes me feel quite sick
Follow the money. Always follow the money.
Especially when it's tainted with blood
It's South Africa 1985 all over again.
An angry blog post is-a-comin'
And indeed, it looks like it will replace the Indian GP's original slot, with India moving to December. Adam C also says there may have been pressure from India as well to agree to Bahrain's reinstatement.

All this Senna talk has reminded me that we have not had that Sidepodfilmclub meetup of Grand Prix yet, or whatever it was called the event was called.....
Darn these short off-seasons!
A quote (supposedly) from Max Mosley: “F1 would go to Bahrain over my dead body (...) a public relations disaster, sponsors will want their liveries removed.”
Regardless of whether or not it came from Max (which would reveal plenty of tension with his chosen successor Jean Todt), the bigger question is - can sponsors ask for their liveries to be removed from the cars specifically for Bahrain?
That's tricky. I'm likely not to watch the Bahrain GP anyway, and I refuse to watch F1 in December. Two GPs down for me!
Yep. It'd be in contracts that they may not want to be involved in events of disrepute. I hope a team pulls out, but I doubt any of them have any balls
Looks like we have to root for Vettel and Red Bull wrapping up the titles by Korea, then.
ooh I vote for IN Korea #party
Oh YEAH! :D
:)
There's hope yet.
@donriddellCNN: Bahrain govt tweeting that they will host #F1, official word needs to come from FIA though. Sounds like there's still a lot to be sorted out.
In any case, FOTA fail?
It ain't official until it's on Autosport :)
@EliGP: The Bahrain official you are hearing about did not mention the year the Bahrain GP was back on. Just something to keep in mind, just in case a random tweet doesn't prove to be the most accurate information in the world. #crazytalk
♥
And you may be right!
@alexthomascnn: #Bahrain government sources tweet they have got #F1 rescheduled for later in 2011 but FIA/FOM sources deny deal is done.
tennis tiiiime.
Good thing there is no junk food in my house or I'd be stress eating into obesity.
Doesn't mean I can't go buy some in between matches though *ponder*
Are Bahraini officials seriously trying to force the issue by announcing this publicly?
Not like they have much to lose.
The possibility of losing it forever as opposed to a year?
Point taken. The watch continues.
Let us not do anything to rash here. The last thing I want is for Bernie to replace the upcoming CANADIAN Grand Prix with say, a SYRIAN Grand Prix due to extremely low Television levels becauses well-intentioned fools decide to boycott the NEXT F1 race.....
Christine, are you FBFBing today?
Not today, but I am watching with a mind to what tables and things I will need.
excellent :)
Shall be watching the inevitable Murray defeat on Eurosport because I'm not too keen on the BBC not using the full functionality of the red button by showing two sports at the same time.
its Rafas birthday, does that mean I get cake?
She keeps telling me the red button will be uninterrupted but I don't believe her.
Maybe if he wins?
but now hes 25 and that was a cake reason between me and Rosberg.
Although this may be greedy after my Melbaversary cake yesterday.
phew back from the very warm town centre. have i missed much?
my commentators spent a long time talking about how the top 3 are so distant from Andy because even though he's 4 he's not in the same league.
If that helps you. :D
Word going round that BIC is holding press conference at 4pm to announce. What they'll announce, who knows...
oh that's nice... lol
am hoping you and christine are mean about Murray cause then he may stand a bit more of a chance..
I will do my best.
boooo at dressed the same.
He's got a hat on today.
They should have away kits or something.
Muzz is good at having day shirts + night shirts. My favourite thing in Melbourne was when he'd change shirts when they shut the roof.
Um, it's still daytime even with the roof closed Andy.
i knew i could count on you both! :)
lets hope he doesn't take it off or i'll get confused! lol
I'm finding it hard to resist the lure of the shop...where the maltesers live....
If I went now I wouldn't miss much...
hehe nooo resist the maltesers! :)
but it's Friday night! And if I don't have chocolate during Roger/Nole I might eat my hand instead.
Just waiting on confirmation of Bahrain decision t'is all
ohh.. that's a good point. i have yummy roasted soya beans.. somehow not the same as maltesers..
Saw that earlier, but again, not sure how true it is given what FIA/FOM sources told CNN. Someone will have egg on their face at the end of today.
ohhh internet!! why do you hate me! stop buffering! :(
cmckinleyF1: Just to stress nothing official from the FIA yet but all the signs are that Bahrain have been given a date of October 30th for the GP
It may be protecting you.
:(
Just doing my bit for the cause.
:D
*waves from 7 Eleven*
"F1 2011 – First Ever Previews"
http://www.virtualr.net/f1-2011-first-ever-previews/
looks pretty, but then 2010 did. ;)
hehehehee
phew, home again. the dark is scary.
ohh Murray.. at least fight back...
I feel safe in some of Rogers records
Djokovic has now made the last 8 Grand Slam QF, to equal Federer's streak, he'll have to keep doing it till the 2016 French Open
he appears to have woken up
In '10x better than Novaks streak' Esther Vergeer just won the WC Womans title, her 418th match in a row :)
ohh Murray come on!
@SkyNewsBreak - "AP: Rescheduled Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix to take place on October 30"
What's happened to the Indian one?
December - not confirmed yet though
...unless this is classed as "official"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/13608826.stm
alexthomascnn: No doubt now. Bahrain F1 GP will be held from Oct 28-30 this year. Confirmed by FIA as well as Bahrain International Circuit.
WOW. Very disappointing.
I am both disgusted and angry.
Rooting for Vettel and RBR to wrap up the titles in Korea, then.
We underestimated Bernie's avarice....
How silly of us...
It's a shame they didn't make it the last GP of the season and then the teams could have just sent their second string drivers and the tea ladies to change the tyres...
Ping -->
"Formula One, Bahrain and a Fundamental Loss of Respect": http://t.co/jT3RD0K
Bad news for Murray, and his bad ankle is back?
:(
I feel it can't be a torn ligament or whatever it was they originally said otherwise playing on would cause more damage and theres no way he'd make Wimbledon
It worked again! I rule.
keep going! :)
:D
the other thing I learn from http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/pressreleases/wmsc/2011/Pages/wmsc-030611.aspx is I can't fit a GP into my Olympics trip :(
I'll be in Europe for Germany and Hungary but they're the same weekends as the actual Olympics tickets I got
Does Nadal not like doing backhands? He's always running around the ball.
ooh Canada/USA back to back. Same for 2013 please.
the Aus GP also appears to be a week earlier than the AGPC thought it would be and is using in their advertising.
I should really make all my observations in one comment.
Korea also moves up to the first set of fly-aways. Interesting.
I feel bad for Brazil, who just managed to get their hands back on the final race, only to be booted out the way again.
I feel bad for the engineers and staff, etc that have to endure an already too long season being made even longer
good point. Boooo. Bring on an epic Korean finale to the championship for
meeveryone then, it's the only solution21 races! Gah.
I imagine the FBFB is cowering under the bed somewhere
Something's going to break at this rate
Turkey is subject to confirmation. It'll go away.
In WRC news, Monte Carlo is back!
Long expected though, still great news.
Meanwhile, 2012 Hungarian GP weekend hits our wedding.
GAH.
In all fairness, it is Hungary.
and the tennis finals at the Olympics.
You're going to have to move your wedding.
Have you seen Hungary 2010? That was something else! :D
No. :P
:D
2008 was the best Hungary I think you'll find.
2006....
this is why I can't plan my wedding too far in advance. Although of course it will be in May ;)
2006??
I'm not Lou.
thank you! :D
heheh!
All I can remember is de la Rosa scored his only points there. So, I'm guessing I can't.
hungary 2010 is a blank for me
me too. That's not unusual though. I barely remember Monaco last weekend.
angry angry murray..
I'm amazed we don't get more broken racquets from him.
theres been a serious lack of reaction shots of the Judy. Unimpressed.
I'm expecting that Hulk phase any second now.
They have hosepipes!
stoopid clay
Why are they watering the clay? Will it grow?
ergh, girls are making me go out to see more degree work.. i wanna watch the end of the match dammit! :( will have to keep an eye on the scores on my phone :(
keeps the dust down
Clay is weird.
Boo!
I do not like it. Tennis #needsmoregrass
i know! :( please try your best to help Murray win.. think he needs it.
How do you feel about the blue squeaky stuff?
I like hardcourts, theres lots of them too though. It's just a shame that the grass season is literally only three weeks long.
Ping: http://www.f1minute.com/news/bahrain-grand-prix-back-on-the-calendar-for-2011-season
That is clearly not enough.
I've not really watched the blue stuff because the squeaking is irritating. But then I thought I didn't like clay either and I've really enjoyed this week.
Thanks Amy, Lou and Christine for introducing me to Monsieur Bahrami the other day. I've always been pretty "meh" about tennis, and in general accept it as something other folks like and I "just don't get". But seeing him gave me a somewhat new perspective.I'm not much of a basketball fan either but the talent and skill of the Harlem Globetrotter's blows me away too. Had the same feeling watching Bahrami.
I don't mind the squeaking, it's the people who are too loud. I think thats why I want Li Na to win the ladies, it'd be so nice to have a winner who doesnt UUUUUUUUUUUUGH or EEEEEEEEEEEEEK everytime they hit the ball.
Mmm. Get Sharapova on a squeaky court and they'll need to start handing out earplugs.
combine him with Henri Leconte and you've got the funniest match you've ever seen in your life.
My favourite thing I ever saw live was one time they were playing doubles and they passed up some money to a guy in the front row and got him to go get them beer from the lobby, then they all stopped for a drink in the middle of the match. The whole crowd was crying with laughter.
Robert Wickens has joined Virgin as their new reserve driver
gosh the sun'll be set in Paris by the time these two are done
They are making a meal of it!
Jake: Just seen provisional 2012 f1 calendar online...Texas in June!?!??!! #hotinthecockpit
3 hours is ridiculous when they haven't even finished 3 sets yet!
That is ******* insane - have they lost their minds?
I am quite looking forward to my trip to Texas if it's going to be that warm :D
average Austin June max is 33 degrees, they do a lot worse in other races.
Texas in June ranges from 35-42 degrees Celcius on average
It's a lot hotter when IndyCar goes there in June - that's why they race there at night
I don't know what the Celsius is, but it's 82F average with 89% humidity.
Should be fun.
#nothere
42.2 is their record high, it's not like it happens every day.
Ahh, it's only 29C in Austin right now... no biggie. :) And an expected high of 37C by 4 PM today
I've a few friends based in the Fort Worth area that claim 35C plus in June is pretty regular
perfect. I'll be on the next flight.
82F is 27C.
I was being lazy. :)
Agree, it can be HOT and humid in Austin, though Houston is worse.
it'll be tough for them no doubt, but its more than doable.
True - they are separated by a bit of a distance
the only problem with back to back means I'll have to fit the rest of my tourism in either before or afterwards, 3 days between being in Montreal and Austin is clearly not enough to see other places I want to see :)
21 races though... that's just far, far too many
Might be heading to Texas next June, but not for F1
For some reference. The expected weather in Austin in June.
http://www.weather.com/weather/monthly/USTX0057
Indeed. As Mr C tweeted: /@mrschristine i think with 21 races next year we needs to scale back sidepodcast somewhat. stuff working that many weekends. #f1
The fans are the least of my worries though. This is just setting out to destroy the people in the sport, unless they end up with dual squads (like NASCAR)
I don't go anywhere ever if it's not sports related.
I don't speak F, wheres the convert button :D
Of course. Supposedly that's what FOTA is for.
I might be going to see IndyCar if they move Texas back to the week after Indy
ahh there it is, now it makes sense.
Definitely looks like Amy weather.
Above the month, "English/Metric"
And by the way, I think that should be "American/Metric"
Zombie crews or dual squads, because they teams have been on about not wanting dual squads
Turkey has an asterisk, though. I don't expect them to come back.
Bahrain and the 21-race calendar will really test FOTA's effectiveness now.
They haven't been on with returning to Bahrain either.
Very true
Where is the provisional 2012 calendar posted?
I still want to try to make it to Goodwood and Silverstone next year.
http://adamcooperf1.com/2011/06/03/austin-gets-june-17-date-on-2012-calendar/
Thank you!
two more points, come onnnnn get it over wiiiiiith.
Good thing I don't have any plans for tomorrow except maybe go for a run, and buying some lightbulbs.
Commentators: "That's Salma Hayek." "Who?"
Ooooooohh.... any particular wattage?
they're odd looking things that go in our outside sensor lights, I am sick of not being able to see my keyhole when I get home at night and if I rely on my flatmates to do it it'll be 2016 before it gets done.
I see....
I picked up a couple of beautiful 1W LED bulbs for my porch light. They're so low power I feel no guilt with them, and they light up what I need perfectly. Fit in the regular bulb socket too.
I'm so nice I'm even buying one for our back door. That hasn't worked in THREE years.
Alonso will be retiring by then!
Lights tend to be some beneficial
:)
I never use the back door but as soon as the front door one went I said 'ooh I'll get onto that' and my flatmate who uses the back door said 'can you pick me up one while you're there?' *sigh*
bulb sockets are annoying. When I was cleaning out the kitchen here I found not one not two but twelve screw top bulbs in a drawer. We have no screw top fittings. It's like someone who lived here prior to me forgot this every single time they went shopping for bulbs.
It ended! They had a nice chat at the net too. I'm obsessed with that bit.
"pretty impressive stuff" says the commentators.
He won't win the final if he plays like that.
it's a great way of seeing who likes each other and who doesn't :)
the crowd go nuts when he does interviews in French, he's only done it twice in 7 years.
"the most important thing for me is to be there"
what he really wants to say is "I want to play Roger because if Novak wins, I'll lose my #1 ranking. On my birthday."
:( ah bad times
What a gift that would be. :D
wohoo back just in time for the next match, i will watch all of this one.
Have you figured out who you're cheering for, Amy?
ooohh ouch. kinda want Novak to win, but also wouldn't mind Roger winning..
Rogerrrrr. Even if I have money on Nole and I do like his streak, he's still only my #2 favourite :)
also mum rang me to say she's checked my bank statements (always a bad sign) and i have no tickets to tennis for the olympics :(
plus if Roger met Rafa in a final at RG and beat him, I may never have to hear that his 2009 title "doesn't count" ever again. That'd be awesome.
I know 12 people who applied and I'm the only person I know who got them. I feel very lucky :(
If by some miracle there are some in our second chance ballot I'm going to buy any I see because I know so many people who missed out who'd like them.
its soo annoying :( desperately wanted to treat my mum and aunt to tickets too.. when is the second chance ballot?
its not a ballot its first in first served. Ours is on the 24th or the 28th of June but I'm not sure when your one is. There won't be any tennis in the UK one I don't think :(
"Surely that first Grand Slam win is not so far away on this evidence." says @ByronF1 re: Murray.
I think I've been hearing that at every Slam for the past 3 or 4 years.
he's like jenson.. he's just biding his time :)
Ha, yes. Earlier the BBC people were saying that Murray just isn't good enough, and it's sometimes only a few points here or there, but that makes the difference in the late stages of a slam.
:( :(
Interesting reaction for the bahrain gp decsion, about 50/50 split on whether it strengthens the ruling royals with legitimacy or whether it boosts the crown prince and the reformists
I am slightly tempted to go and experience what happens. it will be a very strange weekend i think
ours will only have tennis if people who got allocated tickets decide not to buy them. I hope lots of people do this :D
three break points
LETS WATCH HIM SQUANDER THEM ALL.
you might be the only spectator who isn't a local, it certainly doesn't scream 'awesome tourist destination' to me.
oh wow
Its kinda like those people who fly to watch volcanos or chase storms.
something is gonna happen!
ahhh but tennis isn't a massive thing in the olympics.. like the athletics is. Ahhh i shall never get to watch tennis at wimbledon at this point..
oh my god!
it is the Olympics but its still Wimbledon and you Brits go crazy for Wimbledon in ways that confuse and scare me :D From the sounds of @Pearcesport almost everything was oversubscribed, all thats going to be left over in the second sale is early prelim rounds of team sports.
My main Brit tennis friend says getting Wimbledon tickets is a million times less stressful than the Olympics ballot so I'm sure you'll get there one day :)
i will certainly try. in the meantime this has confirmed that i'm going to treat mum and i to see the Masters at the Royal Albert Hall, in a) an attempt to maybe get to see Bahrami.. and b) just so we can watch some legends play :)
dooo it. Legends are so awesome to watch and so competely different to what you'll see at the WTF in November.
both are in November, i'm very excited! I'm not sure if i could keep the Masters a secret from mum for too long once i buy the tickets cause it's too exciting! I sooo wish i could just know when Bahrami was playing tho :(
Not long at all if she keeps checking your bank statements!
this could be a long one too.
:D hehe! she only did it this month cause i was desperate to find out if we'd got tickets :D plus i'll be home from tomorrow for 4 months so will be able to open it before her anyways :D
I haven't got paper statements for many a year. #mfc
i'm gonna be checking the results while i'm at dinner aren't i.. gosh my friends are gonna love me! :)
friends need to understand that sport comes first. All of my friends have learned this :)
hehe i am setting up my online banking, but it's been a bit complicated (anything is when my dad gets involved!)
They know this with F1 already, they're slowly learning it with tennis, yet it's our last night here so we all want to go out :)
I'd die without online banking, this morning I noticed the second payment for my Aus GP tickets had been taken so I emailed Pamela and 30 seconds later her half of the money was in my account, so I put it straight back onto my credit card. All of this while I was being paid to work :)
deuce 6, come oooooooon.
hehehehe!! did i hear that right?.. Novak is like an F1 car? :)
see, i want this kinda organisation and control in my life. My dad on the other hand still likes things on paper and in files :/
Banks here are only just getting the concept that when you transfer money it should appear at the other end in a timely manner.
You don't even live at home anymore, they should let you do what you want to do :)
it works with me and Pamela because we bank with the same bank, when my flatmates transfer their rent into our flat account it takes about 3 days. Grr.
that's my argument. However my dad likes to control money.. :/ although i do have 4 months at home to look forward to :)
I guess its different circumstances, when I was your age I was working 30 hours a week on top of my uni, my dad was smart enough to realise the thing missing from my equation was sleep so he had no say over anything :D
oh Roger, if ever there was a time to learn to convert break points.
Hello all. Love the daily's photo montage. The only thing you forgot was Fry from Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
hehe :D
come oooooon
woooohoooo!
not that he'll consolidate *sigh*
Hello. Wow, this warmth came from nowhere, I like :)
pathetic they pull nole up on a time violation when no one ever ever ever says anything to Rafa. Heres a tweet from earlier
Nadal between points that game: (missing). 28 secs. 35 secs. 33 secs. 36 secs. 43 secs. 40 secs. 33 secs. (missing). 35 secs. 33 secs.
What is it, 30?
25
Blimey!
I'm not sure Rafa has got below 25 seconds in his whole career.
A day of mixed feelings towards the FIA for me.. A huge hooray for the joint-ACO FIA World Endurance Championship, been waiting years for it.. A huge BOOO for Bahrain.
I've been talking to pro-government Bahrainis on Keith's forum. Seeing as they're defending F1's return to the death, I've decided to try talking F1 with them. Let's see what they say...
oh no, tie break. I can't cope with these.
Enjoy a little something from the sidepodcast.com back catalogue.

mini break! hold oooon Roger!
bah.
my friend just got back from having her second tattoo, she keeps trying to get me to get one..
whatever you do, don't get one of a button.
hahaha i don't want one anyways. I've said if i do get into F1 one day i'll consider having a small camera/f1 car somewhere.
i still maintain the button is cute tho.
To be frank I'm not really interested in what they have to say.
It seems one good way to shut them up is to ask them about F1. They haven't come back yet.
two more Rog, two moooooooooooore!
oh my goodness!
"the hairy Roger Federer"
thanks mr commentator man.
Hullo all. I apologise profusely for my activity in arranging Fryday. My intention was not to fry everybody with this hot, hot weather.
Joe's thoughts. No doubt he's slightly annoyed with the FIA not going the way he thought it would.
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/06/03/bizarre-thinking-at-the-fia/
Bahrain is actually going ahead?
Clearly it's not just my head that is frazzled. Mental.
eek!
*rubs eyes at the tennis*
woah.
ah come on Novak!! No 1 slot please :)
I'm afraid this has to end in 3 sets or they'll run out of light. :D
nooo i want it to go on till tomorrow cause then i'll get to watch the end! :)
thats just handing rafa the trophy!
noooooo Novak is mighty! ;)
Nole's dad left the stadium after he lost the first set and my commentators think that everytime he looks up at the box and sees the empty seat it messes with his head.
That's just blatently causing drama.
any stadium is a better place without Papa Djokovic anyway. He's awful.
maybe mumma Murray should come take his seat :)
ooh yes, that'd be epic.
3/17 break points. Making 17 chances is awesome but god, poor conversion Roger!

shaaaank
I get confused enough when people shorten down Roland Garros...
Something for christine - guess who's gonna be doing a bit of voice acting for the next back to the future game? Only michael j fox :)

baaaahh wanted to stay till the end of the set but have to leave for dinner now :'( least i have the house to myself on finals day, but gah this is annoying.
Will keep up to date on my phone. Someone cheer Novak for me. x
bags not
Doesn't dinner know you have novak to support? Food should know by now you want to support him :)
Have a good time!
Oh my... WANT!
Roger, you're so fail sometimes.
Having said that, two more episodes were released for iPad and I didn't even know. I gots me some catching up to do.
woooooooo! DO IT FOR 2009 ROGER!
What happened to your love of Nole? :P
he's never been my #1, I just didn't think Roger would ever do well at the French again.
In other news, one of the Bahraini sympathizers I was talking to acknowledged she was a troll. That made me LOL. :D
Nole's nothing more than a French summer's fling. :D
he's the back up for when Rog fails. Which is often :D
People are silly.
Indeed so. Joe's not going anywhere just yet - he'll wait and see. What does FOTA do now, I wonder?
They should put their hands in the air like they just don't care, that's what. That'll show everyone.
FOTA led by Mr Whitmarsh who's team has a shareholder from....
Bahrain?...
Mind you, FOTA also voted unanimously to tell the FIA they didn't want to go to Bahrain. And that includes McLaren. So this can still go either way.
Good afternoon people :)
Hiya Marti :)
Is that confirmed or a rumor?
Just spoken to a friend who had booked to go to India... not at all happy!...
It's obvious that no account was taken of the fans in this debacle....
So many F1 fans on twitter who think they are experts on Bahrain politics, its making me quite annoyed/dismayed
I did my Uni dissertation on gulf politics, and even with 15,000 words behind me i don't know the answers to a lot of questions people are jumping out assumptions to answer with.
I guess its the old "Why worry about the facts when you can be angry"
So... should we go there?
I don't know about the current situation or much about the reasons behind what's going on, but I know what I saw earlier this year and a race this season is too soon.
I read it somewhere it's confirmed - let me try to find it.
I am going to buy a Nikon Reflex camera.
This are my options: D5100, D7000 or D90.
Do you have any of them? What are your feelings about those cameras?
Im not saying it was right or wrong for it to go ahead.
i think it should have been canceled in february. but the fia decided to get involved by postponing it.
Now they have consequenses to their decsion.
Im not entirely sure it will go ahead. it will either be a calm summer or it could flare up again and the race could be canceled
Evening folks
Probably not here
Not Dubai there! :P
I mean, not there Dubai! :P
Considering what happened today, it's flaring up quite nicely, but then again, Bahrain never truly quietened down.
oh, i thought you meant discussing it :)
I guess i answered it!
On a day when Formula 1 made me very, very angry (I think I scared a few people at work), it's nice to see Doctor Who can make me very, very happy.
http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2011/06/dwn020611204008-reign-of-terror.html
There is a cold war in the middle east with 3 players.
bahrain is the front line between 2 of them
Aye - quite right.
Djokovic gets a set back. Don't ruin it mr roger!
You know what the real question I have with all this: What does this say about the leadership of the FIA's World Motorsports Council?
Turns out they didn't learn from the ANTSMSW5PG (AKA Max Mosley scandal.)
Yaaaaaayyyyyyyy for novak! Woot Woot!
F1Rejects listener? :D
And who did they send to Bahrain to "investigate"? No other than Mr. Carlos Gracia. And we know he's not really up to scratch.
Interesting theory from Joe
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/06/03/another-thought-about-bahrain/
Not only that, look who is the members are on the WMSC.http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/pressreleases/FIA/2009/Pages/fia_world_mbrs.aspx
The name Shk Abdulla Bin Isa Alkhalifa sticks out. I think Joe or someone needs to call him up.
I see Joe's done a second piece suggesting that the teams may "Just say No"....
Hmmm...
So does mine because I'm always logged in.
Wouldn't that be interesting. But as discussed earlier, the Bahrain-McLaren connection makes things a bit difficult.
I forgot I wasn't at the top of the screen.
As I thought earlier, what are the chances of a repeat of San Marino 1982?
The GCC is a huge market for Mercedes and Ferrari as well.
Williams Qatar connections, Mercedes & torro rosso's ua e connections will all put pressure on them to go too.
But they also have sponsors who'll want none of it. I don't imagine Vodafone or Petronas or Santander being too keen to go.
So if even your sponsors are divided, what do you do?
Send the "B" team?...
Send reserve drivers and a skeleton crew. Cancel all corporate functions with the race. Show the flag and that it.
Both championship will be done by then anyhow.
I guess you go and run the race without their stickers.
vodafone have a big presence in the arab world too
Don't show the flag...
All drive in matt black cars with no logos ...
Drivers in black helmets and overalls...
That would be a nightmare to commentate... also be really really hot for the drivers.
that might be a bit hot for the desert!
I will defer on the question of middle eastern politics, however, wouldn't that make the populous that is opposing the government not want to buy their product because the race has become a symbol of the ruling regime?
I see Robert Wickens has taken a reserve driver post with Virgin....
Alongside Yamamoto...
We are going to Canada, after all...
Anyway, time for bed. Night all!
I cant answer that without diving into politics. But suffice it to say, bahrain is viewed differently to libya/egypt
Holy crap at that serve from Federer.
Bernie has has managed to move the indian gp to make sure the track is ready and avoid embarrassment
Come on Rog!
Moving to pleasenter topics, why is turkey listed? do they have a deal for next year?
It's Bernie's bargaining chip.
Thats true, cant bargain if there isnt a slot.
Dont think they will play though!
Oh for gods sake
Wowsers!
Lots of complaints around about texas in june too.
I wonder if Austin could become a season opener from 2013?
we have russia to fit in after that too
Final point:
I don't know if it would be appropriate to draw parallels to the FIFA and Olympics scandal to the FIA, but I swear I've heard this sort of record before about countries from the Middle East getting a non-proportional amount of power within a international sporting body.
This might be the tip of the iceberg of another scandal. I hope not because Max-gate was bad enough.
Rog is 174-0 in matches where he has won first two sets. Starting to think today will make it 174-1.
Dan, follow the (oil) money. Always follow the (oil) money.
#nothere
Austin isn't THAT bad in June. It's in the 90's F (30's C) but it is also relatively low humility and always a breeze. If it was in Houston, that would be a different matter all together.
I like that facing 3 break points Nolel still smiles. The anti-Murray
Eeeek
That must give poor Aunty Murray a bad name
This is absolutely awesome though
I thought the Indian circuit was ahead of schedule?
Niiiick my present is here :D :D
Tried to call you but it's not working x
quality worthy of a final
oh good does it work :)
I don't know. I'm eating takeaway, I don't want to touch it until I've washed my hands :)
Oh thank god
I havent seen many updates from them latley, maybe things are slipping
Dyyyying
Or that it is too convenient of an excuse
#ConspiracyTheoristPleaseStandUp
*cry*
Breeeeath :)
I hate tie breaks so much
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/the-canadian-grand-prix-live-in-london
Oooh, Feddo's gonna win.
*hides behind couch*
*holds breath*
He did it!!
Poor Nole.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
Omg omg omg I honestly think he can beat Rafa and maybe I'll finally stop hearing rubbish about 09
I'm kind of gobsmacked! I do like Mr Federer but I didn't really expect him to win. Awesome.
If Rafa plays like today, then he can!
Nole must be sad his qf was a walk over so he couldn't equal the record :)
I will not cope.
Did they end up moving the young driver test to abu dhabi or is it in india or brazil?
Aw poor novak :(
I can't believe it's almost 6, what a night!
Now, to zzzzz if I can (I can't)
Night Amy!
Hello all from my amazing new kindle :)
Evening all
Can't believe the Bahrain decision. I assume there is another agenda at play as this decision makes no sense.
I also can't believe they buried the world endurance championship under that. I have waited nearly 20 years for that news and they released it like that.
You have to feel sorry for the likes of McNish and Kristensen who would probably have half a dozen world titles each by now.
I guess that was Nick's present. Is your's also called Alistair?
Can you? In a sport where we have been to all sorts of violent oppressive places, have had dubious sponsorship deals, cheaters and now dictators sponsoring F1 teams, why it's so surprising?
He's nameless atm. you can suggest a namw if you like!
Bob.
New Nick
All came out of the same WMSC meeting, everything at that meeting will be buried now. Of course they ought to have decided it then shut up about it until Monday, the start of LM week.
F1 has always dealt with undesirables but I can't think of a situation where it has put its people in a genuinely dangerous situation.
I wonder if Bernie and Todt will actually go there
Hahahahaha
Exactly. Put out the Bahrain news today then use the WEC news to try to bury that
That is true I suppose. It's a natural consequence of the deals Bernie has been doing the last few years.
Absolutely. I would not be surprised if this has been announced so that the teams and their sponsors refuse to go. That way the FIA and Bernie can say they did everything they could to help the Bahraini regime
Ubaid interviewed McNish about being a steward.
http://www.f1pulse.com/features/track_talk/201106031/McNish-I-didnt-appreciate-it-until-I-did-it
Joe suggested something similar on his blog earlier. Clears FIA and Bernie, even the teams in a sense if they can say 'the sponsors don't want us to go'.
Then I wonder if there's an insurance risk particularly if gov't warnings come up again.
Not really, no more so than going to Hungary under the iron curtain
Interesting. So everyone in F1 says yes and governments say that travelling there is a bad idea and then everyone says they can't put their people at risk against government advice.
Via Pressdog, NASCAR Nationwide's race featuring Kimi Raikkonen witnessed a 23% increase in ratings on the same event last year.
http://pressdog.typepad.com/dogblog/2011/06/nationwide-race-staring-kimi-up-23-from-2010.html
Hungary was hardly putting people at physical risk.
You're right. It's no different. Neither was South Africa, Argentina, China, Turkey and many others really.
Martin Brundle never went though - but is the reason people opposed to the race because of the personnel risk or the oppression?
Surely not just because of Kimi? I am amazed his presence made any difference in America
What about sao paulo then, which had one of the highest murder rates in the world at one point in the 90s
He says there is also an upward trend for the series, but I've got to think a lot of people watched because of him. The 'no F1 fans in the US' thing is a total myth.
Been waiting for my pizza to cook. Wondered why I couldn't smell cooked pizza after half an hour, more than the cooking time. Pizza was still in fridge. #hungry
You know what? I work with a consultant from Louisiana. He hunts, he drives a big truck, he's a republican, he watches NFL ... and he hates NASCAR - he much prefers F1!
Was the wrapping still on?
You can make a case for many places but there is a difference between cime and potential political uprising.
I have been to Sao Paulo and there is evidence of heightened security etc I never felt threatened or concerned for a second. The factory I was visiting had 28 cctv cameras round its perimeter. It had a 12 foot wall with razor wire surrounding it and had a man with a rifle in a bullet-proof box above the main gate. That gate was only opened when 2 other armed guards were in position in the car park.
It sounds awful but it wasn't remotely concerning or scary.
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/06/03/another-thought-about-bahrain/
This must surely be one step beyond Mr C's pizza issues :)
Very true.
well yeah :)
Oh dear!! :D
Heheh, I'm always forgetting things. :) You don't wanna know how many teabags have been wasted sitting stewing in a cup for 30 or 40 minutes because I walk away and forget its there.
It's almost a promotion up the ranks for Mr C
Nice one! Great explanation of the role.
Just a shame the FIA demands a code of silence
Ping: http://mrschristine.com/2011/06/03/tomb-raiders-next-step-almost-real-life/
I do not think going up from "Defaulter" to "Chief Defaulter" is not necessary a promotion but more likely a circumstance that the lock to the stockade you are stuck in is not rusted shut....
On the other hand, Mr. C will be an expect potato-peeler by the time we get around to unhinging the door....
Twitter are rolling out there own (photobucket) hosted image service next week
http://twitter.com/#!/twitterglobalpr/statuses/76731711970484224
It drives me nuts how people adjudicate sports. Personally, I think the steward room should be miked and an explanation of penalties should be given to the press after driver's press conference.
Then again, I also believe that football refs should be miked to. It would shut a lot of crybaby players up.
I won't get pious but I think the last 10 years has opened up the world's eye that there is fans in North America.
Once the decision has been reached there is no reason not to let people speak. Letting us see the process would be a good thing too
I wonder if the silence clause came after Derek Warwick said he wanted to black flag Schumacher bur all the other stewards were against that. I guess the trouble with ex-drivers is that they are harder to control
The one thing I love about American higher court decisions is that you get to read the arguments of the judges and why they ruled in a certain way.
I am not expecting a 200-page dissertation, but a statement by each steward would be nice. I think many drivers would welcome an explanation of what is right and wrong. It would also give a standing judgement that stewards in the future can base ruling on... and it would all be clear to the teams, drivers, and fans.
Like The Apprentice, There should be a [Insert GP Here]: You're Fired. where the Stewards explain their decisions, with Dara O'Briain as host.

On Tuesday we have the launch of a Soyuz carrying 3 members of the ISS crew to replace the three who returned to Earth in the middle of the last shuttle mission.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/living/index.html
We all know the sidepodcast community loves space and photography so how about the super slo mo videos of the shuttle launch and some still pics too. The video merged from 6 cameras looks very unnatural.

3-D is the new black so a little 3-D from Mars. I found it didn't work for me except for the stuff in the background. I think I may be too close to the screen or my settings screwed it up somehow.

Genius
Awesome.
That has absolutely blown my mind. Just amazing.
Newsnight right now has a discussion on Bahrain and F1, BBC2.
wicked.
when does it start?
It can Damon, but it won't
@Pat
Andy has picked Edwards for TMRG who is not racing.
When I sent the comment and it just finished
ok ta

Bahrain would make half a billion on the race? Gobsmacked
High rollers spending a lot in hotels etc? Lots of business deals with locals? Seems a crazy figure to me.
I am sure that is as true as everything else he said. How many people attend from abroad, and what would the average spend have to be to acheive that? If it was 100,000, they would need to spend 5000 each.
High rollers spending a lot in hotels etc? Lots of business deals with locals? Seems a crazy figure to me.
It makes more sense why they would try to get the race "back on track".
I have a lot of Kindle love ♥
Ping - http://toomuchracing.com/2011/06/03/start-times-3-5-june-2011/
race start times (approx)
There will have been some Cup-only fans who got curious when they heard an ex-F1 guy in Kimi was racing.
Oh, now THAT is quite something! You don't see that everyday. :)
Hahahahaha
