Hey everyone, and welcome to Sunday!  I’m not sure about you but I’ve already had a very busy weekend, so I’m pleased it’s a bank holiday in the UK! Today is going to be very busy as well, as we have much to discuss and follow, here are a few things to start with;

  • Yesterday Eurovision day was embraced by the comments, Amy wrote her first guest post in honour of the occasion and we all live commented the event. Alex even did an extra special Eurovision Giggles Radio as part of the build up! We weren’t the only f1 fans to appreciate Eurovision though, f1 twitter feeds were full of comments about the show from people in Turkey such as Will Buxton.
  • With yesterday full of Eurovision and F1 goodness what can we look forward to today? More racing of course! Mark Webber secured his third successive pole yesterday, can he make it three wins in a row? We’ll have to tune in at the usual time to find out! Does anyone have any predictions? What are Jenson’s chances of winning from 4th? Will Mclaren leave anything in his car this weekend?
  • I know what you’re thinking… one Formula 1 race just isn’t enough to satisfy your motorsport needs for this Sunday. Well fear not! You can also tune into the Indy 500, or follow the Rally of Portugal.
  • If you find some extra time between all that motorsport you might also want to check out the tennis today. It’s going to be an excellent day at Roland Garros, with Federer, Murray, Cilic, and Soderling amoung just a few great players in action today. For a full schedule of play visit the official website.
  • With such a busy day of sport ahead why not try and squeeze in a listen of the latest Aside with Joe podcast, if you’ve not already heard it. If you’re a fan of Joe (and lets face it, who isn’t!) and if you’re going to the Canadian GP, or live near by I highly recommend you check out Joe’s Canadian meet up plans. Having been to the London event I can’t stress enough how great it is.

Well, I think that’s enough to keep everyone busy, if UK residents are wondering how they will spend their day off on Monday, why not consider going to motorsport at the palace event in London. I hope you all have a lovely day!

sounds about normal around here :)

How did Amy manage to avoid writing a guest post this long? I thought she did won on the Oz GP. Memory must be playing up

No it is only Turkey. I'm pumped for Indy. Writing a post features some great writing from the Indy blogosphere is giving me even more fever.

she said she would but never did, i suggested we interview her about it in Spa and then get her to transcribe it :P

  • lou29/05/2010 at 23:53

    Yes.

but Soderling v Cilic! and Murray! and Federer all in one day!... it doesn't feel like an F1 weekend :(

I remember you saying that. I just didn't know she had avoided writing anything. She spent all that time at the Melbourne race and spoke to Heikki as well as meeting all the sidepodpeeps and her first guest post is about Eurovision. I don't understand that

Jenson and Lewis up with the Red Bulls and Vettel's car shook itself to bits in quali so you could get a McLaren 1-2

the only mclaren 1-2 I want involves jenson winning :) I think it's the fact this week has been dominated by thoughts of leaving school etc, i'd kinda forgotten about f1...

I am amazed Lewis has been faster so far because this track should suit Jenson better. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he is faster than Lewis in the race

It wouldn't be so bad except it turns out things like the drivers' briefing don't work quite like the F1 versions do. Some of the stories Martin Brundle tells about Le Mans...

  • Alianora La Canta30/05/2010 at 00:51

    What was the deal with Liuzzi being slower with the F-duct car? {Comment #76}

Both Force India drivers have been struggling with when to deactivate the SRW (which is what Force India calls their F-duct). In particular, both of them have repeatedly missed Turn 8's brake and turn points. After Sutil had finally binned it partway through FP3, he decided to give the SRW a miss for the rest of the weekend. Liuzzi persevered, went off at Turn 8 on his first flying lap on soft tyres and didn't make up for it on the second lap.

The SRW is apparently a big improvement. However it doesn't appear to be very user-friendly...

The good news with scrutineering is that they even say when each car will be done. I like detail touches like that.

Just try explaining to a forum used to F1 that a Le Mans driver briefing has been known to entail such things as drivers having phone calls in the middle of the briefing and (on one occasion witnessed by Martin Brundle) someone bringing their young and not-particularly-interested daughter to the session...

Sounds like a good plan. Maybe it's one of these things that this type of wing benefits from the knee rather than any part of the arm being used to switch it on and off.

I'm not sure a Doohickey will solve this one given that no other forum members were online when I wrote the piece. It's more a question of anticipating what they'll want to avoid potential confusion later on.

Sounds like a good plan. Maybe it's one of these things that this type of wing benefits from the knee rather than any part of the arm being used to switch it on and off.

The hand covering seems to be an early form to test the theory. I guess you need a few seconds before the corner [like a braking zone] to re-establish downforce before turning in

    As FI probably found out

Good luck with that. There doesn't seem to be any extra keys on the iPad keyboard does there?

    it's very... minimalist!

  • Bassano30/05/2010 at 01:05

on the keyboard? don't think so

How do 'entry fields' enable it on web pages?

    Also, previous and next

  • paul30/05/2010 at 01:06

I was hoping echofon would be out for the iPad.

I am looking for a decent free option

  • paul30/05/2010 at 01:07

    Has anyone tried tweet deck?

  • me30/05/2010 at 01:07

How do 'entry fields' enable it on web pages?

yeah that works fine for search etc. (try searching on sidepodcast on the ipad).

it doesn't appear to work for multi-lline boxes that allow line-breaks

  • me30/05/2010 at 01:07

    Has anyone tried tweet deck?

as bassano said. it crashes a lot

  • Bassano30/05/2010 at 01:07

    Which do you use?

Bird Eye is great for displaying your pics [it's pics only, like PhotoNest]

Sticky Beak is really nice is if you want to arrange by tweeter

  • Bassano30/05/2010 at 01:08

    Has anyone tried tweet deck?

Feels like a beta to me and not really utilising the real estate

    :-) or that

  • Bassano30/05/2010 at 01:13

Not that many free ones but some decent ones for very little cash

  • paul30/05/2010 at 01:14

I think I have $3 left in my iTunes account. I need to be selective.

  • Bassano30/05/2010 at 01:16

Ok, yep that looks like an option.

Also, like the iPhone. I use Boxcar that gives you a pop-up for DM's or Mentions

Then you know how great it is already

Agreed. Best avoid the passive aggressive options.

But if you did want to go that way a note wouldn't be best here. Best would be to invite them to share your roast dinner with them then say, "yes it will be just coming up to room temperature at x so we could eat at y." and then they'll realize their mistake but be trapped.

nobody is home! They have ran away from me. Someone has also "cleaned" under the stairs today by moving all the useless crap under there out into the house. I have put it all back again. No point putting a bean bag with not enough beans in it into the lounge if it means I can't open the fridge because its right in front of it.

For those watching the Indy 500 later, here's a schedule, and in UK time, so you can choose when to join:

5pm ABC TV starts. Not sure when Race Control starts. I'm hoping to have both running.

5.33pm Drivers introduced to the crowds. I love to listen to the cheers/boos.

5.54pm US national anthem and flyover

    5.56pm 'drivers to your cars'

6.03pm Back Home Again In Indiana, balloon release

    6.05pm 'drivers start your engines'

6.06pm Parade laps including the two-seater IndyCar ahead of the field

    6.12pm Green flag

I might be quite excited. Great F1 race, hopefully another good race later.

(hearts) Jenson being awesome today. 2nd isn't bad at all! :) and he's still the only mclaren driver this year not to be gifted a win :D

Lewis was unhappy at Jenson today definitely

urgh, stupid Lewis with his stupid girlfriend and stupid sense in fashion! i don't care if he's angry with Jenson, Jenson raced so well today and backed off sensibly.. none of this taking each other out business.

I also love that JB overtook schumi after the start... Schumi had a huge line of cars behind him for most of the race!

  • Lukeh30/05/2010 at 18:02

Lewis was right to race, and they both did it sensibly. for me it summed up Lewis' attitude as a Mclaren driver that he felt Jenson shouldn't have come after him. Also he called him his best teammate ever after the race - I dunno why he had to clarify that. Seemed an odd thing to say, not saying he's wrong or anything but just seemed odd to bring that up.

was he being sarcastic? i thought he was bffs with Heikki?... i'm thinking Lewis doesn't mean it really, it's a way to clear the air and show the media there is nothing wrong i suppose. Jenson is much better with the media, that interview in the build up was amazing :)

Really not happy at the theatrics of THAT Woman today. Never mind Webber vs. Sebber, give that woman an Oscar!

She was happy, leave her alone :P

Not sure what you guys thought but I felt that although Webber could have given Seb a touch more room, Seb had enough spaec and shouldnt have moved over

I don't know what she's really like, but she comes across very fake and for an F1 girlfriend, she loves being in the foreground too much when the others seem to enjoy being in the background. It comes across better that way.

Big boo to the BBC for interviewing her on the grid and FOM for continuosly showing her during the race. I don't care what she thinks TBH...

Liverpool is a city. Merseyside has been a county since the 70's. I think someone needs to tell Paypal. They probably have me as Cheshire or Lancashire.

    just googled anfield road liverpool.

It would have let me choose Greater Manchester though which is exactly the same kind of set-up. Maybe they just hate scousers.
