We are well and truly into the new year now, the partying is over and it's time to start concentrating on getting back into a routine. It's my final weekend off before returning to work and it'll soon be time to try and remember to put 2010 on documents, instead of scribbling out 2009 for the next few weeks. Meanwhile, here are some of the things on our minds:

  • We had just a little bit more nostalgia yesterday, as I posted a best of podcast for the Sidepodradio marathon. There are lots of great bits in there, including Mr C's efforts at cooking, snippets from the quiz, and some travel tips as well. Relive Sidepodradio as if it was yesterday, and get your thinking caps on for Sidepodradio 2.
  • Our first non-daily post of the year went up in the form of a note about Jenson Button and his new McLaren outfit. Pictures and video are available of the man in his new uniform, and it'll take a couple of glances to get used to it, trust me. Take a look and let us know what you think.
  • We are also ready to start asking for your predictions for 2010 - even if it is impossible to anything from just a glance at one man's new t-shirt. I have listed out a couple of my own thoughts for the new season, but I am rubbish at predictions and no doubt entirely wrong. Why not head over and point me in the right direction?

That'll do it for now, let us know what you're up to this weekend, and I'll see you in the comments.

You'll have to look at yesterday's post where we discussed it around tea-time.

Needless to say the email was marked confidential in the sig so I am not sure how much I can divulge.

Which is part of the problem really, because in my response to Andrew I said that he should put some of it on the blog as it was useful info.

we are improving from last year; by this time we already had a women almost rolled over.

it will be a hard balance: there will be more people in the roads this time after the precedent. on the other hand, the safety procedures should have improved, and there are more stages in isolated places like Atacama

more or less. it was still in competition, but it was 30km before the end of the last special. some were waving, some were going really fast (but maybe not THAT fast). the funny thing is that we saw Despres checking his rear tyre a few meter from us, he was still worried at that point in the race...

Rent 'The Fifth Element' whilst you're out

Play the opera mash-up scene towards the end, very loud, when you get back

See how she likes it. If nothing else, it'll freak her out

the last one isn't showing here at the moment and the first two don't appeal to me at alllllll. My flatmate wants to see Sherlock Holmes though so we might go to that.

    Morning all.

Avatar, Sherlock Holmes, A Christmas Carol. Any of the three. :)

Was at the in-laws yesterday afternoon, and my mother-in-law got mixed up and called Avatar "Abbatoir". That would have been a rubbish film, especially in 3D.

More than happy to on my post but I would assume it would be OK to do so here? We were all going on about what happened last night in the comments anyways :P

Depends if there's anyone around who reeeeeeally doesn't wanna know what happens

    Alright then *SPOILER ALERT*...

Why does the Doctor have to die to be regenerated, and why does he come back different?

There is an explanation out there somewhere explaining it in terms of the shows storyline but I can't remember it for the life of me, boo

I read the plotline on wikipedia and saw the last scene on YouTube. Is the regeneration always upon death?

  • Lukeh02/01/2010 at 12:44

I read the plotline on wikipedia and saw the last scene on YouTube. Is the regeneration always upon death?

The Doctor can actually die but if he's killed during regeneration. It's something along the lines of a timelord gets 12/13 (I forget how many) lives and when one is ended, then he simply regenerates into a new life form. I'm really rubbish at explaining it though so I'm sure someone else could do a better job and actually make sense :)

  • Christine02/01/2010 at 13:12

I have noted that Mercedes wants a top 3 position next year according to Nick Fry.

    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12433_5821177,00.html

This seems a somewhat low target considering they are the World Champions.

but then again he said "All of Formula One wants Michael back" and that it is good for the sport - cannot she how the return of the biggest cheat in the history of the sport is good.

  • me02/01/2010 at 17:27

but then again he said "All of Formula One wants Michael back" and that it is good for the sport - cannot she how the return of the biggest cheat in the history of the sport is good.

lost in translation, clearly he meant to say:

"all of Formula One wants a knife in michael's back"

  • Rich02/01/2010 at 17:28

"all of Formula One wants a knife in michael's back"

I think the only positive is some drivers want the opportunity to beat Michael before he returns to his zimmer chair.

  • Rich02/01/2010 at 17:34

While Mercedes is targeting a top three position, Renault seem to have the same expectation.

""We are not going to produce a car that catapults us to the front because F1 is very competitive. But our 2010 expectations are to run towards the front and challenge for the top three."

Considering they had arguably the best driver on the grid and a multiple world champion this year and finished third last I can confidently predict that unless they retain Robert and get Nick they will not be a top three runner. That is my 2010 F1 prediction!

  • me02/01/2010 at 17:35

I know it was an off-the-cuff remark, but like that's going to happen. Ambient temperatures in the evening, even during midsummer, in the UK would lead only lead to complaints from drivers and teams alike.

    How is your house

  • Alex Andronov02/01/2010 at 19:42

    How is your house

Very very messy. They overturned the bed and went through everything looking for valuables. Luckily we don't have anything very much worth stealing :)

As far as we can tell they took the telly, my work laptop, a printer and some wii games that we didn't like enough to take with us for Christmas.

But they caused quite a mess. The most annoying thing is that they moved the dvd player and the apple tv and sky box getting what they were after and one of them is making a weird noise but I don't know which because I can't touch them until the prints man comes. And second they moved the main computer because they were obviously going to nick it but in the end decided not and again I'd like to know if it's working but can't touch it until SOCO get here.

Stupid people, grrrrr at them. Shows how stupid they are at moving something obviously then leaving their prints there for the police to happily take!

  • Steven Roy02/01/2010 at 19:47

there are some pictures on the drop...

It doesn't matter how much security you have in any house as there is always glass that can be broken.

They also went in the filing cabinet, but once they opened the first draw didn't work out that they needed to close the first draw to open the next one. They didn't take anything from there either.

  • Steven Roy02/01/2010 at 19:48

But they didn't take them? How odd.

They probably don't want to be carrying anything too big as it looks suspicious and increases the chance of being caught

  • Alex Andronov02/01/2010 at 19:50

I mean walking down the street with a 32" telly is suspicious, but a 32" telly and a computer COME ON!!! ;)

After reading Fernandes' comments I'm wondering, if Donington has kept the british GP, how Simon Gillett would have proposed the circuit hosting a night time race if it was suggested. I can't help but think his idea would be stewards with torches.

Or a giant hole with a big light in it.

  • lou02/01/2010 at 20:44

hehehe i've just noticed Jenson's new twitter picture.. you can't help but laugh really..

he'd suggest that less planes fly at night, so more seats for f1 people.

    Hello all :P

Took a trip into the city today, first off to get my large container of change turned into cash. The machine I use for it charges something like 8.9p for every £1 and I ended up getting almost £100. So I decided to go buy a few things - a Rocky wall poster, Muse's The Resistance (for £5!), Sim City 3000 UK Edition, Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, All-In-One Driving Test CD-Rom (to help me for my practical test when I book it) and F1 Championship Edition on PS3 for my dad as he got one for Xmas.

Then quickly devoured 20 nuggets and a large still Fanta from McD, caught the train back to Wymondham and walked home in the snow. Good day, me thinks. :)

    I know it was an off-the-cuff remark, but like that's going to happen. Ambient temperatures in the evening, even during midsummer, in the UK would lead only lead to complaints from drivers and teams alike. {Comment #175}

    Only GP2 winner not be picked for F1 in the following season isn't he? {Comment #252}

Making a pig's ear of a previous attempt at F1, plus having sponsors fail to pay out and winning the year only one F1 driver retires generally do not help matters. Had he won 2009 rather than 2008, he might have got in - but only because there are so many new places opening.

  • Pat W02/01/2010 at 23:47

I'm watching superbikes (not live), trying to figure it all out. Nice to have racing on but I can't say as I really care what happens.

alls i know is that mr Toseland did good, he went to Moto GP and was rubbish, therefore Superbikes are rubbish QED

Any particular word we should avoid?

It could be worse - we've ust watched the Horne/Corden vampire film (it was a freebie on the 12 days thing). And quite enjoyed it...

Me too. I did watch a few races when Edwards was still in it and I heard '09 was a good year so I thought I'd check it out. All I've learned so far is the bikes sound like DTM cars and the passing seems too easy..

looks good, all experience is good experience....Rally's can be harder than circuit venues for photos as you cant spend a session lining up a photo that you want, depending on the type of rally you'll only see each car 3 or 4 times, so you have to get it then and there!

  • Lukeh02/01/2010 at 23:58

    That was a good film.

Matthew Mcagaoshoneyeemdh(spelling is a bit wrong) is actually fantastic in it for once!

  • Scott Woodwiss02/01/2010 at 23:59

Speaking of Goodwood, when do tickets go on sale for the FoS and the Revival?

I actually want to go to the FOS this year - it's one of the things on my 2010 list!

Plus, I suggested getting tickets to the Revival as a present for my grandad who is 65 this year. He loves classic cars and my nan said that he's always wanted to go there.

  • lou03/01/2010 at 00:13

OK... how much is FOS? Is there an onsite campsite? We have a stupid sized tent....

depends on how many days you want to go for. last year one day was around £45-50 for an adult.. and for 3 days it was around £107... i think. and yep there is an onsite campsite.

  • Amy03/01/2010 at 00:17
