That's it, it's over, but what a lot there is to talk about! We have just enjoyed the first race of the 2009 season, and it was a corker. Safety cars, overtaking aplenty, this will keep us going for... well, until next week I guess. Here's what we're talking about:

  • We're still trying to decide whether knowing the fuel loads ahead of the race is a good or a bad thing. We took a poll yesterday, and without wanting to get into the debate about refuelling, it has certainly thrown up some interesting thoughts. Personally, I say no, it's information I don't need, but if it's there, I might as well make use of it.
  • It didn't seem to make any difference how much fuel was in those Brawn cars. They finished as they started, a 1-2, despite Rubens best efforts to have some bad luck. Button though, was on it from start to finish, and took a great second win.
  • We're also wondering just how lucky Hamilton can be. He started from near enough the back of the grid, and ended up in fourth, almost in a podium position. Most of it was due to the misfortune of others, which puts him squarely in the lucky category.

That'll do it for now. There's plenty else to talk about, so don't stick to what I've mentioned above. I'll see you in the comments.

And Hamilton may still get that podium position depending on the outcome of the investigation into Trulli passing him under the safety car.

it's well slow - but then again, how often does THAT happen!

Sorry I dropped off half way through, my bro came over and we were caught up in the race!!!!

Worth getting up for - roll on Malaysia!

    Reuters has the story too:

they are more or less the same story.

    autosport says:

Lewis Hamilton has been promoted to third place at the Australian GP after Jarno Trulli was penalised.

Trulli's third place was put under investigation after the Italian regained his position overtaking Hamilton during a safety car period, having run off the track when the SC was on track.

Both drivers were summoned to see the race stewards following the incident and it was decided to give Trulli a 25-second penalty which moves him outside of the points finish.

Toyota confirmed its intention to appeal the decision.

    More to follow.

    Fernando Alonso: 4

Rubens is my driver of the day. I wouldn't have been surprised if his head went down after lap 1 but he kept going and going and even without Kubica/Vettel he done very very well.

Why the hell was Vettel trying to finish the race? He surely knew he couldn't scrape points. I thought a penalty would be for the incident, but for avoiding the instruction? Damn.

  • Pat W29/03/2009 at 10:48

The 10-place penalty for Sepang was for the incident.

Red Bull were fined the 50k, not Vettel, as I understand it.

Why the hell was Vettel trying to finish the race? He surely knew he couldn’t scrape points. I thought a penalty would be for the incident, but for avoiding the instruction? Damn.

Because it was inevitable the saftey car would come out to finish the race and he attempted to get get points behind the safety car it seems.

Really silly of him to do that I'd say, been playing too much playstation f1 to carry on driving with 3 wheels ;)

more importantly who is that in FIRST, with 13 teams on the same points, 828, how comes Christine was placed top, I think an investigation in to backhanders between Christine and FR are in order here, but who's is going to be brave enough to put in a formal complaint against Christine? If your drivers are currently worth 42.0 then yes, your budget is now 42.0m, and not the 40.0m that you started with.

However if you drop a driver, you will only be awarded with his current value minus 0.2m - which will reduce your budget accordingly.

No, I think it means they plan to cover all their bases so that if their appeal fails they can have something similar on the car.

This isn't the first time - when Brabham had their fan car, none of the teams liked it because it was against the spirit of the rules... but Colin Chapman was still going to copy the design anyway!

I lost out because my second and third placed drivers took each other out.

Remember not to change your team! Kubica and Vettel were really good today.

I am considering keeping my team the same because I think I have managed to pick drivers that were good value for money and were very strong today. I can certainly hedge my bets with the team I have!

  • Journeyer29/03/2009 at 11:30

  • Journeyer29/03/2009 at 11:31

    Transfer penalties.

  • Christine29/03/2009 at 11:31

    Transfer penalties.

You get penalised for changing? I thought it was just that the drivers values went up and down.

  • Journeyer29/03/2009 at 11:33

Right… just watching the Danish coverage now while I wait for the BBC one to finish…

    SidepodViking update #3:

We have now switched from the studio to some old looking posh clubroom where an old guy in a dinner jacket is talking about Stirling Moss... Not exactly BBC standards!

  • Rich29/03/2009 at 11:38

No, I think it means they plan to cover all their bases so that if their appeal fails they can have something similar on the car.

This is actually really hypocritical - if you protest then you should stick to your principles. If I was the FIA I would take note of this and it would be one more reason to rule it as legal for the rest of the year.

I have lost respect for two teams today - I no longer support BMW-Sauber because of their complaining "we could have won but Vettle took us out" and now Red Bull with this hypocricy.

There is a time to lodge complaints and a time not to. McLaren were right to lodge a case today as Trulli should not have overtaken Lewis under the Safety Car. I feel really sorry for Trulli and Toyota but it is the rule. For 2009 my fan teams are Brawn, Toyota and Williams, but also hope that STR and FI do well as the little teams (FI podcast was really great and generous to other teams). Hopefully the rear diffusers remains for the rest of the season.

It says that there are transfer penalties on the driver selection page.

    Gosh. I didn’t realise.

It means you can only change any driver under very very extreme conditions of under-performing - also seems that more drivers went than went down - sadly I forgot to copy what they started of with so it could be a perception.

  • Journeyer29/03/2009 at 11:44

And to think Vettel came from THEIR team.

  • Alianora La Canta29/03/2009 at 11:44

I'm gratified to know that my worst team was one of the automated ones (Caro has the most expensive drivers each time) and that the fully-flexible one was 2nd out of my five teams.

It's nice that LCM Barato is equal 21st in the league.

  • Alianora La Canta29/03/2009 at 11:48

sadly I forgot to copy what they started of with so it could be a perception.

The "Driver Values" screen on Fantasy Racers tells you the amount each driver cost at each point in the championship.

Sutil, Massa, Alonso, Fisichella, Kovalainen, Nakajima, Raikkonen, Hamilton, Piquet, Heidfeld, Bourdais, Buemi, Glock and Webber went down

    Trulli stayed the same.

Button, Rosberg, Kubica, Barrichello and Vettel went up.

The thing that makes the increases more notable is that they tend to be quite large - for example Button is 1.3m more than he was before this race.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)29/03/2009 at 11:49

  • Journeyer29/03/2009 at 11:50

So Button increased by a Sutil?

    Eh? Didn't Sutil's value start at 5M?

  • Rich29/03/2009 at 11:51

I think those teams that complain about a feature and that features ends up being considered legal (in other words a false claim of being illegal) should not be allowed to introduce that feature for at least four races. We know BMW, Renault, Ferrari and Red Bull are trying to get competitive advantage out of the situation. When it was first raised the FIA opinion was it was a clever interpretation of the rules, the Austrialian Marshalls have ruled it legal so if a team wishes to persue its complaint it needs to do so with conviction and be prepared to lose out fairly significantly.

It is not as if Ferrari and Red Bull are fully playing within the rules themselves, but Williams decided to withdraw their as legitimate complaint in the interests of the sport.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)29/03/2009 at 11:52

    Is this part of an experiment of sorts? :) {Comment #111}

Yes. It's an experiment to see how good systems are compared to the flexibility of a team fully chosen by me (LCM Dragons) and a team partly populated by favouritism (LCM Fire Lizard).

This is why LCM Barato has Piquet and Glock next race instead of Button and Barrichello. Points-scoring they undoubtedly are, but they are now too expensive for that particular automated team. Who knows - at this rate of knots they might get so expensive they end up in the expensive team?

  • Journeyer29/03/2009 at 12:10

  • Danny29/03/2009 at 12:24

Just remember not to change any member in your team - I changed one member and all my drivers costs went up. I really do not like this new Fantasy Racers - am considering giving up as you cannot change drivers without losing. It has taken out the fun of it as your are stuck with the first team you selected if it was a fairly good team.

Just to clarify - when you view your current drivers on the 'View Drivers' page, their values already include the 0.2m transfer penalty, so show you what you will get if you were to transfer them out.

The reason for the transfer penalty was down to the fact that people who didn't have access to their computer over the weekend, or did something other than log straight on after the race, would be at a disadvantage to those who were quick off the mark and could quickly switch to all the successful drivers and 'bank' the profit when everybody else got around to making their changes.

I guess it also makes people try to live by their original decisions too. Many competitions don't allow any changes once racing gets underway.

Anyway - it is a new concept for this year, so I do appreciate any feedback, good or bad.

  • Lukeh29/03/2009 at 12:24

My complaint is when you update one driver - everything gets changed - all I wanted to do was change bourdais to buemi - otherwise I was happy my initial selection. Had there been a warning that this will change all driver values I would not have changed my selection. Now my entire team is wreaked without any ability to change it for the rest of the season. It just is no fun it really really sucks - sorry Danny I think you have destroyed the fun from Fantasy Racers and I won't bother - it has become pointless as you you can only make one strategy at the begiining of the season.

I mentioned earlier that I liked the red button (no pun intended Lou) stuff and "me" shot me down a little...

I was not intimating that red button was top technology merely that I liked the following:-

    More than one view

    More than one commentator

The regularly rescreened replay of qualy and the race

    The post race stuff

Not saying it can't be better just that it's light years ahead of previous years....

    Roll on Malaysia....

I loved it, i had the doohickey in one corner, the main feed in another corner, the onboard feed in another corner and live timing in another, it was great. Especially the onboard cameras as you really see the racing more than you do normally!!

  • Rich29/03/2009 at 12:46

Guys, you will soon realise with Fantasy Racers that you actually cannot change your selections you will discover there is no point to it or actually any fun in competing as there is now no strategy in Fantasy Racers - its too much of a lock out. Unless you had six drivers and both Brawns in your selection it is history - you can give up any idea of doing well for the entire year.

It is working correctly as you have described it. Personally, if I was programming this I would warn people with a message that to change drivers you will incur a penalty of 0.2 million transfer deduction. My team was sandbagging, I had Rubens, Jenson, DeSeb, Timo, Jarno, and LeSeb. I just wanted to change LeSeb for Buemi (at the same cost) but becuase of the penalty I could not get Buemi and I now also lost the chance of returning to my original team. If a warning came up - I would left my team alone. The problem is that now I cannot change my team. The alternative is to lock all changes until the new driver costs are updated. Asd a far as I concerned you can dlete my account. As stated earlier you cannot move away from a six driver combination with BRAWN drivers which you had to start with. Last year there was actually more chance of using some strategy it is now mostly luck.

I’m really confused as to what this is all about….so if i want to change my drivers like last season…what happens?

if you buy a driver for let's say 7,2 million he will show up in your team with the value 7,0 and that is also the amount you will get if you sell him.

  • Kathi29/03/2009 at 13:08

The alternative is to lock all changes until the new driver costs are updated.

also the changes in driver values are continuously. you just have to be smart with your exchanges. check back on Friday or sth perhaps Buemi's price will have fallen so much that you can afford him.

OK - I'm not going to argue the merits of this years change, but I'll explain what's happened with your team and everyone can make their own minds up. If you want me to delete your team drop me an email to confirm and I'll do so.

The price listed under your 'available drivers' already includes the 0.2m penalty, as well as a warning underneath explaining that.

You got rid of Bourdais for 6.0m (his price at the time would have been 6.2m, but showed as 6.0m under your selected drivers) leaving you with 6.1m to spend as you had 0.1m left over originally. No other drivers in your team changed values at all.

You picked Sutil for 4.8m, leaving you 1.3m to spend. Sutil would show as 4.6m in your team as this is what you would get if you were to sell him.

Your drivers are currently worth 43.1m - so despite making the change you're doing quite well.

    First in the PitlaneFanatic fantasy racers league {Comment #126}

Incidentally, the predictions league I run is right at the other end of the scale in terms of points awarded, with the highest points-scorer on a massive 5 points and second place has 2 (owing to some rather picky rules...)

Just remembered a story they said on Star Sports - John Button has some sort of heart condition, apparently. He needed to take some meds pre-race to ensure he's OK for the excitement of the race.

  • Rich29/03/2009 at 13:28

I’m really confused as to what this is all about….so if i want to change my drivers like last season…what happens?

If you get driver in at a low cost you have to stick to your entire team e.g. it is clear Brawn are very competitive but started at a low price - probably they will increase throughout the season. So you might start off at or close to 40 million limit but if left alone at the end of the season it will be much higher. Each transfer you make directly after the race incurs too much cost (which most people had not realised). The problem is that you cannot use any strategy to change drivers so you cannot select what is the optimal driver/car combination for each circuit. Consequently, you cannot include Massa doing well in Turkey and Lewis doing well at Monaco. I feel Fantasy Racers is really lame now, as people realise it is too expensive to change drivers so there is way less involvement meaning fewer people will bother to participate a the season was determined by first race results.

The idea of changing driver values through the season is actually good. If I were designing Fantasy Racers I would have a different cost for each circuit (calculated based on last years performance plus this years accumulative performance). After each race each participant has to re-select all drivers based on the new costs calculated for the next race. After a race there is a 24 hour lock out until results are finalised, new costs calculated - then you select your new drivers. This would mean you have to be active through the season. Currently if you were lucky with your first selection you have to keep it for the entire season. Consequently strategy has been replaced with luck as the first race dictates the season so now you cannot participate any further as to win it is best to remain inactive and non-participatory. This is why I say Fantasy Racers has been destroyed as a participatory past time.

If you get driver in at a low cost you have to stick to your entire team e.g. it is clear Brawn are very competitive but started at a low price - probably they will increase throughout the season.

Surely the problem there lies with Brawn being dominant, rather than the Fantasy Racers rules. The idea is to make a profit on say Button at this race, then select the driver who will do well in Malaysia, and make a profit on them. If it's going to be Jenson all the way, that's not the fault of the game.

Now all I really wish was to have gone back to my original selection - and then not bothered to change anything during the entire season - so it is a lot of fun.

People still need to realise you virtually cannot change drivers or switch from three to six drivers and back to four drivers. There is no strategy just luck!

  • Christine29/03/2009 at 13:37

People still need to realise you virtually cannot change drivers or switch from three to six drivers and back to four drivers. There is no strategy just luck!

Some trivia for future quizzes: Button's was the 50th start-finish win

  • Rich29/03/2009 at 13:45

Surely the problem there lies with Brawn being dominant, rather than the Fantasy Racers rules. If it’s going to be Jenson all the way, that’s not the fault of the game.

I disagree it is the fault of the game because you cannot change drivers through the season. I guess for me the fun was to try and optimise my driver line-up for each race while working within a budget. Now the focus is to keep a good driver at all costs throughout the season. Consequently a strategy of no-change rewards too much and the first lucky draw sets the season up. If you have a bad start you also cannot make ground. Last year I started very late but could catch up this year it is impossible to do. If you cannot really change your driver line-up why bother to continue to participate? I think it is really dumb - it is both more complicated and less participatory - I guess that is modern progress look at Vista (a more complicated but less usable OS than XP)

  • Jon Waldock29/03/2009 at 13:46

Fantastic race - great to see the natural order of F1 turned on it's head. BBC did a great job for their first weekend back - light years ahead of ITV coverage.

I'm yet to be convinced that the new rules encourage more overtaking as the field seems more spread out than last year, but KERS does seem to provide quite a power boost and the cars are able to use more of the track than last year.

The only downer was that Vettel and Kubica took each other out of 2nd and 3rd places and these guys were both in my Fantasy Racers team :-(

    Dont dis Vista

Why? It is monumentally bad!!!! It was so bad that I have scrapped all Windows from more than 50 PCs that I manage and I now use Ubuntu and Open Office which is brilliant. I also like OS X. I am working really hard for our University to stop purchasing/suport of Microsoft after the Vista disaster. So far we have moved about 500 people across to a Linux-based system. I am not alone 75% of Vista licenses have been downgraded to XP - need I say more. Vista was the biggest failure as an OS in the history of personal computing!

after watching the race once with ITV commentary and once with five live commentary i've got to say i prefer Anthony and Croftie. I like Martin's commentary, and for me it wouldn't be a grand prix without it, but i'm still getting used to Johnathon Legard i suppose.

  • Lukeh29/03/2009 at 14:04

He was too honest about this crash, it was a racing incident in my eyes. he went for the move (although he didn't need to personally) and Kubica went to defend the racing line going into the corner. Problem is they both got it wrong. Just how I see it anyways.

Was pretty sad to hear him on the radio being so resigned about it. But it got Brawn a debut 1-2 so a double edged sword of emotions.. :)

after watching the race once with ITV commentary and once with five live commentary i’ve got to say i prefer Anthony and Croftie. I like Martin’s commentary, and for me it wouldn’t be a grand prix without it, but i’m still getting used to Johnathon Legard i suppose.

    ITV ?????

I'm sending in a Digest contribution via e-mail.

  • Journeyer29/03/2009 at 14:05

He was too honest about this crash, it was a racing incident in my eyes. he went for the move (although he didn’t need to personally) and Kubica went to defend the racing line going into the corner. Problem is they both got it wrong. Just how I see it anyways.

Kubica and BMW see it otherwise, of course.

Vettel will get a 10-place penalty in Malaysia

It seems he got this, because he admitted it was his fault. Lewis who never admits he makes any mistake would have got away with. Personally I thought it was as much Robert's fault as LeSeb. This sets a precedent that no driver can ever admit they made a mistake. I felt LeSeb had absolutely no where to go so it was a racing incident. Sure he should have pulled over after the accident so the fine is appropriate.

I also thought that although Trulli was to blame - it was quite a small error (having left the track and lost position to Lewis under the safety car that it was OK to regain the position) the result of the safety car was a brutal punishment. It would have been fairer to have dropped him to fourth and Lewis to third - which he deserved considering everything.

Someone said earlier - dropping Trulli to 4th was rectifying the error. But Trulli committed an offense, and he needed to be punished. I think the stewards did the right thing with Trulli.

Can I suggest a team names, Team Vettel v Team Kubica

    or

    Team Branson v Team Brawn

  • Scott Woodwiss29/03/2009 at 14:09

Hi guys, what a race, eh?! :D So happy for Brawn GP with a great 1-2. Bit disappointed that Vettel and Kubica had to spoil each other's races. Personally, I feel Kubica, despite being faster, turned in on Seb. It might have been classed a racing incident, but I feel Vettel has been unfairly punished.

But an amazing and in some ways unexpected eventual top 3 in more ways than one. If that's the kind of racing we get from just one round, I am so looking forward to Malaysia already!:D

  • Steven Roy29/03/2009 at 14:10

I haven't seen the Trulli incident. Did he just lose one place and then take it back or did he lose more? If it was only one place then that is all the penalty should have been.

  • Steven Roy29/03/2009 at 14:12

In that case the penalty is ridiculous. In the IRL the race director would have be on the radio telling his team to tell him to give the place back before the safety car pulled off. Maybe F1 is not high tech enough to do that.

  • Alianora La Canta29/03/2009 at 14:12

    Not sure if it was the biggest failure ever, but it was a failure. Comment #238}

DOS 4 is the only thing I can compare to Vista in the history of failures of operating systems. DOS 4 corrupted much of the data on systems with it installed and had a multitude of bugs, including one that made the computer beep randomly when using the "dir" function. Which wouldn't be so odd except that "dir" is only meant to say what files are in a given folder, not attempt to auto-generate computer music...

It didn't help that it was the last version of DOS before Windows was invented, but the way DOS 4 was implemented made it virtually useless except as a curio.

    according to joe he [Vettel] admitted it was his fault? {Comment #242}

He said it on the team radio, which was broadcast during the race. To be precise, he said sorry and then called himself an idiot (I thought was a bit unkind about himself, but there you go...)

I think it was the crash itself he was apologising for, since it came before he parked the car.

Vista is perfect, a few compatability issues, but generally i’ve been able to sort them out myself.

A few compatibility issues!!! It eats computer computer resources requiring huge cost in hardware upgrade/replacements. An estimated 75% of users have downgraded to XP an eight-year old operating system than to continue with it as of December 2008. Please find another OS where the majority of users downgraded to such an old system. If you can then we can say that is was a bigger failure than Vista. When we eventually dump Windows we will save millions! it is a no-contest Ubuntu is superior in every conceivable way.

"Downgrade rights are our most popular OS selection. I'd estimate that at least 75 percent of Vista licenses are going to XP," said Joe Toste, vice president of marketing at Equus Computer Systems, a Minneapolis-based system builder.

I actually defended Microsoft up until Vista. NT, 2000 and XP were solid platforms. I was also rather anti Linux - but when you get to use Ubuntu - its absolutely brilliant especially if you have to manage lots of PCs which I have to. I have to managed labs with OS X, Ubuntu and Windows - the pain in the butt is the Windows (running XP). I also manage about 12 Servers (Server 2003) and two Linux Debian - on stability you cannot compare - the Windows Servers are a pain with nearly weekly re-boots, neither Linux server has been re-booted or restarted in more than a year!

  • Flibster29/03/2009 at 14:42

My Australian dining experience is over...

Tim Tam's - just wonderful, especially when dunked in a fresh coffee. :D

Alligator - Just had it done on the griddle so it was cooked all the way through *not sure if you can have it rare* But it was very tasty and went very nicely with a bit of chili sauce.

Kangaroo - was told to treat this steak. Fried for 30seconds each side then put on the plate in a preheated over at 80°C - Interesting taste, a bit like rabbit, but not entirely unlike steak either. It was a bit tougher than steak though.

Vegemite - someone just **** in the tub... thats all it is. Bleugh.

I'l hapilly eat Tim tams, Alligator or Kangaroo again.

The same thing happened to a few drivers. It may be the driver or it may be the car. We need a few races to find out the truth

i've just realised that (and here comes my awful description) in fire fox the time on the player is not moving, it's staying at however long the stream has been running until i pressed play. For example it seems paused on 39:16, i then stop and start the player again and it stays at 40:41. not sure if that's my computer though. probably... it's not playing the sound for youtube videos either...

  • lou (? brawngp)29/03/2009 at 15:36

    Awwwww a message from Ross - http://www2.brawngp.com/

We have worked incredibly hard for the victory in Melbourne and to see the dedication, commitment and sheer hard work come to fruition with Jenson and Rubens bringing home a one-two finish for Brawn GP at the first race of the season was immensely rewarding. After everything that our team has been through over the past four months, it was quite simply a sensational result.

It is just the beginning for us and it wasn’t a perfect race by any means so we will learn and continue to improve. We have to keep developing the car throughout the season if we want to challenge for further wins and the championship.

I would like to express our sincere thanks to Norbert Haug and Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines who have been so supportive over the past few months and have worked closely with the team to ensure we were in a position to go racing this year. Thanks also to Virgin, Henri Lloyd and all our team partners for having the vision to see what the team could do and wanting to be a part of it. It’s difficult to put into words what this win means to our team but I’m sure that I speak for every single one of them, here at the track and back at the factory in Brackley, when I say it was a wonderful weekend.

    Thanks for eveyones support.

Thats why I can’t migrate from Firefox to Chrome. Chrome is so good but it has no usability with Firefox’s addons which I absolutely love using.

    i don;t think i have a single firefox add-on.. oh well. :)

There was another one posted last night about it as well.

It depends what you'd want really. I have ones like Linkification that converts image links on a webpage to showing the actual image so you don't have to select, copy, paste etc.

Plus Adblock is mega useful for stopping popups and adverts appearing on any page which as you can imagine is so good if you dont want to be reminded about buying things everywhere.

Others like fasterfox ca improve the speed of Firefox's loading times, I sometimes use twitterFox for twitter obviously as a clinet in the background, SplitBrowser to create a split in 1 browser of one or more tabs (say you want to read comments and watch video at ame time for sidepodcast shows), but there's so so so so many possibilities, thousands at the official site:

fair enough. that highlights a flaw in lclt, because doohickey isn't optimised for races. probably won't be because of the way it locks the page when responding.

we has a big think this week.

DD also needs a ctrl F search function, that's it's biggest downfall against normal doohickey, for me

Apart from it's lack of memory ;)

so, is no-one using lclt during races?

lclt is the only thing for me to use during races and live streaming.

same here. It handles bulk comments better than the doohickey I reckon

Given that the reason given for the surface break up is the effect of the Canadian winter going there in October is probably not a great idea.

Given that the reason given for the surface break up is the effect of the Canadian winter going there in October is probably not a great idea.

The surface broke up not because of the cold in itself. It was the cold, followed by extreme heat, that broke the track up. The cold in itself shouldn't directly damage the track.

Is he who they chose? Surely it had to be Heikki? :D

It's Piquet for me. The lad is so useless that he doesn't know how to keep his brakes and tyres warm while under the safety car!

Ok I have sound and vision

lets be honest, we are all pretty tired so it's easy to do :)

  • Steven Roy29/03/2009 at 18:06

I thought everyone had left to go elsewhere and not told me

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)29/03/2009 at 18:06

From Planet-Hamilton (soon to be renamed Planet-Button):

    STAR OF THE RACE

    Jenson Button, Brawn GP, 1st

What a fantastic weekend for F1. Jenson Button has shaved off most of his ginger beard. Result. Oh and he also won the Australian GP for the Brawn team.

Ooooh. Reject of the race... wasn't even at the race. ;)

  • Jon Waldock29/03/2009 at 18:08

I wish the show after the race was on the iplayer, i missed it :(

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)29/03/2009 at 18:08

  • Journeyer29/03/2009 at 18:08

Ooooh. Reject of the race… wasn’t even at the race. ;)

Ahhh... Methinks I know who it is. Is it the guy who said he had too much work to be bothered to go? :)

  • RG29/03/2009 at 18:08

I wish the show after the race was on the iplayer, i missed it :(

Is it not as some sort of video feature on the BBC Sport website?

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)29/03/2009 at 18:08

  • PDX Kim29/03/2009 at 18:08

Its a mystery! I'm not skipping ahead to spoil it :)

  • Jon Waldock29/03/2009 at 18:09

Theres bits, but not the whole show :(

  • Bassano Clapper29/03/2009 at 18:09

    Who then?

For me, Nakajima and Piquet both need their P45s

  • Flibster29/03/2009 at 18:09

    Bernie?

    Nope.

  • Andy Taylor29/03/2009 at 18:09

So live show now and panel later? I need to know as my 5yo wants my computer back

    Panel is done.

  • Journeyer29/03/2009 at 18:09

    Nope.

Ah! The company that sold the team who won today - Honda!

  • Bassano Clapper29/03/2009 at 18:10

    Panel is done.

Yeah, I forgot it was an early panel too :(

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)29/03/2009 at 18:10

    Nope.

Ah! The company that sold the team who won today - Honda!

That car would not have won if it was a Honda.

  • Christine29/03/2009 at 18:10

I just noticed that Darren Heath's weekly big picture hasn't changed for nearly two weeks.

  • Journeyer29/03/2009 at 18:11

That car would not have won if it was a Honda.

Even so, they'd have been 2004-competitive, I'd think. And with Ross at the helm...

Anyway, off to the debrief now.

  • Andy Taylor29/03/2009 at 18:11

    Panel is done.

Ah. I forgot it was early this week. Never mind, I've been on enough lately.

Just listened back to last week's show. That was great fun and it also shows that my messing around with Pro Walkman and mic was worth it :)

  • Jon Waldock29/03/2009 at 18:11

I just noticed that Darren Heath’s weekly big picture hasn’t changed for nearly two weeks.

    Maybe its especially big :D

I think Christine meant it's over, rather than edited. Maybe not

Did anyone see the Observer Sport today? Am I alone in thinking the photo on the front page looks a bit like Jenson and Rubens (it's actually David Beckham and Wayne Rooney - sorry guys).

ok Pink Floyd have convinced me not to do any assignment work. If this is handed in wednesday late I blame them.

So unmotivated to do it... it doesn't even relate to my course... grr. :(
