It's been a day of strange goings on, as Donington Park announced they would be making the 2010 British GP car free. It's not what you think, they want spectators to arrive by public transport, but this is just a bizarre thing to ask for of people attending a motorsport event.

  • What is going through Donington Park's mind? Do they realise that when they say "We don't want any cars here," that it could happen to a much higher degree?
  • Word on the street is that the FIA are going to say no to Bernie's medal scheme. They can be sensible sometimes, then.
  • Elsewhere in the Sidepodcast universe, we have somehow come up with Sidepodland, the land where those who clicked 'none' on their Fantasy Racers profile can choose to live. There needs to be a flag designed, so get your thinking and artistic caps on.
  • The shuttle is beginning to say its goodbyes and get ready to depart from the ISS, so Sidepodspace updates are very important.

Please don't forget that this list is not exhaustive by any means. I'll be in the comments just waiting to hear what you have to say, so come up with something good. See you there.

About Donnington...all i'll say is...i'll believe it when i see it...

  • me28/11/2008 at 00:06

What is going through Donington Park’s mind?

    they have an insurmountable problem.

they were in "denial", this is now "bargaining", eventually they'll reach to "acceptance" and we'll either go back to s'stone, or there will be no BGP no more.

  • me28/11/2008 at 00:09

to be honest i won't believe it until the race is finished and everyone gets home in one piece. even then i'll be suspicious.

i wonder if they're actually planning to bus everyone around with blackout windows and then decorate silverstone to look similar to donington?

how will we tell the difference, they're both ramshackle venues anyhow :)

    Yowzers. Let's hope that doesn't happen. :O

Word on the street is that the FIA are going to say no to Bernie’s medal scheme. They can be sensible sometimes, then.

If they'll say no to that, what did Bernie get from them in exchange? Things are never quite what they seem... :)

he could do with a bob or two.

    sidepodspace update

The shuttle is scheduled to undock from the ISS at 0947EST / 1447GMT Friday. There is some flyaround time scheduled presumably for inspection of the shuttle then the final separation is due at 1220EST / 1720GMT.

Assuming the weather is OK the de-orbit burn will take place Sunday at 1215EST / 1715GMT with the landing taking place at Kennedy Space Centre at 1318EST / 1818GMT.

    Morning all,

My odyssey to New Zealand starts in two hours - so I won't be around until Monday at least. I'm nervous and excited for the trip but it's such a long way!

About Donington, yes I will believe it when I see it (it used to be my local circuit and it's a fantastic place). But guys, those of you who have been to the 'stone know how bad the roads are and how bad it is to get in and out of the place. Donington doesn't have very good roads around it and any planned would take years to construct. So it might be quite a smart idea to lease a huge field or two and get people to take buses in and out of the circuit - you would relieve a lot of congestion that way.

Yeah I know it sucks that you can't take a car in but if it works, it will look super good to a lot of different groups. However, if we get muddy fields, dodgy buses and 20-pound+ price tags for this service, it will be a disaster!

See you all after the weekend :-)

  • me28/11/2008 at 08:55

I’m nervous and excited for the trip but it’s such a long way!

    all the best :)

Yeah I will have the 'net over there - NZ is not that behind in technology and stuff ... just that I hear that my family have all these plans for me so I may not post here much. I leave in half an hour and arrive on Sunday night which is why I won't be posting here. It's a really long flight! :-(

Righto, must dash as I have to check my packing and stuff... have a great weekend all and I'll try and post next week

  • Alianora La Canta28/11/2008 at 12:29

I've done a blog entry detailing how you could do Donington Park by public transport. To be honest, the service is not too bad now, except that the final 1.9 miles from the airport to the circuit has no regular service. So if they just bridged that bit it would help a lot (though if I go there on my own, I expect to walk anyway).

  • Alianora La Canta28/11/2008 at 12:29

My comment mentioning my entry on getting to Donington Park by public transport is in moderation. Since I'm probably the commenter living nearest the circuit, I figured that I ought to help out somehow.

    sidepodspace update

I just had a great view of the shuttle and station flying over my house. The sky was totally clear and the shuttle was just ahead of the station. That is the first time I ever saw the shuttle fly over. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera or even binocuars with me but the station is still obviously the station.

  • Jordan Allen (What is a \\\\\\\"woot\\\\\\\"?)28/11/2008 at 17:44

    Greetings Everyone.

I have just concluded that 'me" is none other than that Great underachieving Frenchman of F1, Olivier Panis.

    My reasons are Elementary...

    1) Christine likes underachieving Frenchmen in F1 for some reason. (Bourdais, Montagney).

    b) The last underachieving Frenchman in F1 before Montagney was Panis, and Christine never talked about Panis.

I find that in itself, strange.

    2) Panis no longer races in F1 at the same time, "me" shows up with Christine. They are obivously having a relationship. But Christine has eyes only for underachieving Frenchmen ....

    3) Me is really not to crazy about Montreal. I did inivte him over. Panis, has a damn good reason not to be too crazy about Montreal....

    4) No good reason for me's cover name has yet been advanced. Panis would have a good reason to cover his ID as ton of people would come down on Sidepodcast HQ looking for autographes, and the surname "Panis" is only a letter change away from something a little crude in English....

    5) Panis has beeen very quite of late. Very easily to do that when you are sitting behind a computer all day....

Conclusion, Chrisitne has married Olivier Panis!.

  • Steven Roy28/11/2008 at 17:46

Conclusion, Chrisitne has married Olivier Panis!.

Shouldn't 'me' have a French accent in that case?

  • Jordan Allen (What is a \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"woot\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"?)28/11/2008 at 17:51

No. The Montreal Walls also took away his French accent as well as his legs. Have you not figure out that the concrete walls in Montreal are just pure evil yet?

  • Steven Roy28/11/2008 at 18:36

Don't tell Christine but if Autosport is right diGrassi is not getting the Honda drive. At the time of the test we knew that Senna gt closer to Button's time that di Grassi did but what we didn't know was that each day Button was sent out to do a benchmark time for the test drivers to aim at. So Senna was genuinely 0.3 seconds faster despite it being his first experience of a modern F1 car. Honda also wanted to assess the technical feedback from the drivers and reports suggest that Senna was on the same level despite diGrassi having done over 2000 miles of testing for Renault.

So Senna was faster, as good technically, and has that name. Also he can only get better because he hs so little experience. So it looks like the drive is between Senna and Barrichello.

You guys are (generally) quite smart, I have 2 questions for you which i've been thinking about (some would too much)....

    1) How does Jack Bauer never die??

    2) How come Spy's never have to fill up with petrol??

  • Jordan Allen ()28/11/2008 at 21:43

    Lupus?

  • Christine28/11/2008 at 21:43

I don't watch it, but I guess the same reason James Bond doesn't?

    Divvin nae

I assume they run on 'film' fuel, unlimited but quite expensive.

Jack Bauer, Like James Bond, "never" appears to die since it is actually a Code Name. James Bond has been knocked off five times now (which explains why the current one has blond hair). I think it will be obvious that it is just a cover as supposedly the next one will be black.... (Will Smith)

    2) The Spy's cars run on some top-secret explosive gas mixature known as Dihydrogen-Monoxide. Very dangerous stuff. Help RubberGoat get it banned.

For anyone who has no idea what I am on about he is a Welsh comedian who was on Live at the Apollo doing a brilliant act on buying duvets and performing for the forces in Iraq & Afghanistan.

omg he was hilarious wasn't he? the duvet bit was soooo funny my sides hurt. A great ep of Live at the Apollo :)

Some people can make anything funny. Who would have thought buying a duvet could provide so much material?
