The 26th January is apparently Australia Day, so celebrations all round for the Australian members of the Sidepodcommunity. Meanwhile, we are officially into the F1 pre-season, now the launches have begun, so we are talking about lots of things! Here are just a few of them:
- Mercedes launched their new livery yesterday, with the car due to be revealed at the first test next month. We covered as much as we could in the breakout thread, and the new livery also made yesterday's F1 Big Picture - this is the best version we could find, it looks almost acceptable in this one.
- It was interesting to note that the Bahrain circuit have made changes to their circuit ahead of the season opener in March. They've added an extra loop to the track which extends the length of a lap, and is supposed to add overtaking opportunities. This will remain to be seen, I suppose.
- The points system could be about to change as it looks like the team have agreed yet another system. The win would still be worth 25 points, but second place is slightly less, and the rest appear to be more evenly spread. It seems to encourage a win more and more, but you'd be less inclined to mess about for the other places. That's not the desired intention, though, is it?
- We have completed another new sub-page of Sidepodcast, with tons and tons of information about Twitter. Who you need to be following, and who is tweeting from the world of Formula 1, is all listed in easy to view format. Keep up to date, and get tweeting!
That should do it for now, we've got a moment of calm before more launches later this week, so let us know what you're up to, and I'll see you in the comments.
I have made it home safe after a MAMMOTH day flying and at work! Off to sleep off my jetlag :D
ooh, it's tuesday already. here's a ping for a breakout thread:
http://sidepodcast.com/2010/01/26/usf1-confirm-jose-maria-lopez-for-2010/
Enjoy your bed
dumb question, but if the driver's name is - José Maria López (with accents) - why does the usf1 site list him without them?
And you lost an accent in María also ;-)
maybe they don't know how to put accents with an English keyboard? :P
bugger. i'll fix the post in the morning.
usf1 need shooting. night all.
they need to hire you and Christine for the PR! ;-)
night mr. c
v2.0 of the toaster has accents
Good night
indeedy!
also, not sure if anyone's read the daily seeing as the breakout kicked off at exactly the same point, but there's twitter info listed in there might be of interest.
see ya.
guilty.... :-(
very nice!
Interesting lists
final thing. if journeyer pops in, i think the ie quoting bug has been quashed, but have yet to test it on ie6.
#realgonekid
(very unfinished, awesome plans in the works)
boo australia day! I just learned there is a big concert in the square tonight. The very same square where I will be watching Nadal beat Murray. At the very same time. Boooooo. At least there is fireworks though. I like those.
they have a big screen and the concert in the same place?
Ahem?
How many grand slams does NZ have?
yep, the big screen is at the main city square but so is the stage they use for such performances
at least you already know how the game will end ;-)
that is not relevant! If we had one we would not have a concert during the best match of the fortnight :D
Doesn't that involve going outside?
Do you go for the atmosphere?
its a bit stressful because i follow the bbc live text and they keep telling me murray will win and he is the greatest player of all time and no one will ever beat him ever. But they tell me that every slam so I think I should assume they are wrong
:D
It's like the Aussi F1 coverage of Mark Webber!
i live outside for 2 weeks a year pretty much. Atmosphere cant be beat. Then I go back inside until late March, then outside for one more week.
Its a great idea (the screen), and that should be quite the match. Although I fear for anyone playing Roger, after last night's effort.
they have a big screen for it in sydney too but i dont think they turn it on until the semi finals. I was worried about roger meeting davydenko because the man is on fire but after he got pushed a bit by verdasco i am feeling more secure.

anyone been watching these? hilarious
Simple answer: In what the United States defines as "North America", you only need a 101 key "US" keyboard. It actually cost extra money to buy "International" keyboards, which need be / can be used in interesting other interesting regions of North America that the Yanks never hear about ==> Places like St. Pierre (French French), Province of Quebec (Quebecor French), Greenland (God knows...), Mexico (Spanish) All these places require accents of some sort, and they are, Geographically at least, part of North America....

God I love Anthony Bourdain. Great cook, amazing and insightful writing. His TV show is awesome. Anyone who loves likes cooking and traveling shows will get addicted to his show.

My God it's cold today. -27 Andronov!
surrounded by scots. If you never hear from me again, supporting Rafa was worth it.
Be careful! :)
That reminds me of the old Billy Connolly sketch about the Rangers fan in the Celtic end during the old firm match!
It's Track 7 on 'The Pick of Billy Connolly' - a very funny CD!
http://www.last.fm/music/Billy+Connolly/The+Pick+Of+Billy+Connolly
Was listening to the Danny Wallace podcast this morning from 6 Music, and he has an excellent sweeper jingly type thing that says:
"You're listening to the Danny Wallace podcast and this is a jingle, to help us edit it."
Love it! I want to make one like that.
Blimey!
My reaction was a little stronger ;)
Yippieh? #coldisgreat
Well it was uncomfortable at first, but when I started cycling I warmed up and quite enjoyed it.
This winter has been the best for ages!
Mr C - you are a genius! :D
I have no idea what that means.... :(
#mustreadmoreblogs
I hope it stays like this for a while longer, my parents and sister might come for a very short visit in a month
Good match - Rafa vs Andy. Although I'm surprised that Nadal is struggling ever so slightly.
http://www.gamboling.co.uk/2010/01/andronov-temperature-scale.html
Think I may have had a comment go into spam. Oops. Wasn't important really anyway.
Aha,
i would say a boiling day is about 48-50, rather than 44, but i guess that doesnt really apply in europe ;)
Hmm, I don't see anything.
Oh. Strange. It contained two URLs so I presumed it may have been blocked. Vewy strange.
Still, was nothing important. Thanks for looking though.
is it really quiet on here today or am I broken?
SPC is still functional.
Is there something going on that I don't know about?
My regular online haunts are exceedingly quiet this morning...
Perhaps everyone talked themselves out yesterday.
Paul di Resta will be Friday test driver.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81064
1) Why is Whitmarsh announcing this?
2) Yay for Friday drivers!
Does this mean he won't be doing DTM?
Not sure. Do they clash?
Sorry I've been away for a while - had complicated family stuff to attend to.
Anyway:
"It was interesting to note that the Bahrain circuit have made changes to their circuit ahead of the season opener in March. They've added an extra loop to the track which extends the length of a lap, and is supposed to add overtaking opportunities."
Do you think they could point out where these new opportunuities are?
Or is the intention that the new loop is the actual track, and the old circuit the 'Bernie shortcut'? ;)
I live in fear
Apparently not - there was some mention that DC could have done DTM and fully perform his BBC F1 duties?
It wouldn't be a surprise to find the shortcuts longer than the existing track :)
I have just realised - I have removed AUTOSPORT from my feed reader and I don't even feel like I miss out on any Motorsports news...
Apparently McLaren also want another test driver alongside Mr Paffett. I am amazed at the number of testers teams want considering how very little there is for them to do.
That's good. Although they are responsible for about 80% of the news that gets discussed here.
Is it just a way to snag them into a contract?
Morning all
If you sign an up-and-coming driver for testing, its harder for them to go to other teams
Exactly :D
So I only need to check what's going on here...
Ah, interesting. In that case, I'm amazed at the number of drivers signing up to test when there is so little for them to do.
As long as we don't all do the same :)
was it the green and red eyesore what did it?
Perhaps they should have asked for planning permission before erecting it?
No, it was the realisation that using Google Reader for news feeds was becoming a waste of time. Too much time was spent doing a 'slash and burn' through news feeds, so now I just check the websites once in a while.
My feed reader is much nicer with just blogs in it now :)
:)
have just read danks tweet about bpl. i'll read back through the comments in a sec, but for the record:
eric + bpl = teamawesome
(i just hope they have a nice livery this year)
oh.my.gosh
Read this...
http://btcc.net/html/generalnews_detail.php?id=1806
Thats not Motorsport news, thats crass tabloid rubbish
Indeed. Very much enjoyed my time working with Lord Bradley and I know he'll do an excellent job.
Which tweet? Sorry I don't follow :(
Never mind, saw it now :(
Now im the confused one.
Looks like they will: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/01/26/meanwhile-up-at-enstone/
the official site just wasn't the same without him. the content was there but the heart was not.
yay! :D
no way!! thats awesome! he's going back :D
I met him a few years ago, he gave me and my dad a tour around the factory, great guy
Oh goodness. I needs me a team to follow.
I'm sorry Amy. So sorry.
Nadal retires with injury; Murray into the semis.
:(
Murray should be a lock for the finals now, surely. While Fed has to go through Davydenko and Djokovic.
That's no way to beat somebody :(
To be fair to Andy, he won the first two sets and was 3-0 up at the third.
can i recommend renault?
Wow, really?
6-2 7-6 (2) 3-0 the final score.
There will be nitpickers...
I sorta already got that hint!
Correction: 6-3 rather than 6-2. But yeah, Murray made Nadal run a lot. It probably wore Rafa's knees out.
Mind = Blown :D
Renault is now my favourite team.
Eric and Lord B.
AWESOME, now they just need to get an equally awesome driver pair to get me all happy and inspired about....
Is there any incentive to retire with injury? Does it still count as a loss?
Yes, it's still a loss. I guess the only incentive for Rafa was to cut his losses and limit the damage. I guess he thought the match was unwinnable for him at that point.
Roddick also had a bit of an injury worry earlier today - also in the 3rd set. But he fought back, only to lose in 5.
Going back to Nadal, it's hard to believe, but he is no longer holding any of the grand slam titles - his last title was in Australia last year.
it really scares me that it is only the start of the season and his knees are playing up. They normally wait until at least july
hehe.
i am so excited by 2010. yippeee!
That has cheeeeeeeeeered me right up! (not that i was in a bad mood).
hoorah for good decisions....
Humph. I will hold on to my grumpiness. I will.
its looking like its going to be a really good year.
i'll join you when schumi wins race 1 :)
i think that while he's recovered from short-term damage, his knees will never be what they used to be. and that's sad.
Rafa will have to consider making some serious changes in his game before Roland Garros.
Agreed :D
Seconded. :D
Did we know that Maurice Hamilton has twitter?
http://twitter.com/MauriceHamilton
Yup, I think so.
i'm sure that won't last ;)
his career is definitely closer to the end than the start. My friend cried and that made me cry.
nope, i haven't seen him mentioned half way down this list ever:
http://sidepodcast.com/twitter/
:( How many Nadal fans were with you?
I think a name change is in order
:D
i try to help you, i really do.
hehe love it.
:D
not too many, lots and lots of brits in aussie. Most of them bandwagoners who asked far too many stupid questions about the most basic of tennis rules.
At least he has some supporters now!
i read the f1 drivers and teams and saw the coming soon for the journalists....and thats as far as i got...
#sorrymrc
*hangs head*
:D
like what, Amy?
I am not Formula1 enough to make the list I notice ;)
hehe. we're going to need help to keep the list up together, so new account shoutouts are good. but i have been retweeting maurice for so many months :)
I'd be more enthused if one of the duo you mention would lift the block he has placed on me following them on Twitter...
ahh, you probably are, it's just a new list. maybe you haven't tweeted about f1 since it was created?
oooh. what did you do?
you should tweet them about... oh.
To be fair I very rarely tweet about F1. I don't mind at all. Actually I think yesterday is the first time in ages because I asked Sarah Holt what colour the car was.
the supporters we moved to get away from are on my friends tram. Poor thing they will make her cry again.
Nothing.
Don't see the point in being on Twitter if you're going to be selective about who can and can't follow you.
I'm the same. I will tweet about everything else but F1 I don't seem to.
how odd. i can follow both.
Quite a lot of my followers are not into F1. So I tend to not want to spam 'em.
x2 two twitter accounts, like pat has?
He blocked me back in my @redbullog days. Perhaps he doesn't like Red Bull much.
:(
to be fair to Murray, he is on quite a run. He has yet to lose a set.
i can see that argument, but there are some people you just don't want hassling you. we had one a while back and he was insufferable.
i wish twitter blocking was even more aggressive and blocked people from search too.
oooh, dank, for a second i thought you'd gone all andrew benson on us:
http://twitter.com/dank_ross/statuses/8229134326
thats very odd. do you get told when someone blocks you?
Hopefully I'm not seen as some nutjob type.
Oh and another thing that annoys me on Twitter: people who read a blog article on my corner of the Internet and decide to respond within 140 characters, rather than in the actual blimmin' comments on the site itself. Duh.
tis the same on facebook. simple answer is don't plug on fb or twitter.
You find out when you try to follow them again. Seems I'm not the only one he's blocked: http://twitter.com/F1_Girl/status/8232681230
Tis the only way I can get people to read it though. I'll take the sacrifice.
I get loads of hits from FB and Twitter though. And some API retweeters pass on the links too...
there's a wordpress plugin, that copies tweets about a post into the comments. i have no idea what it's called, but plenty of blogs seem to use it.
Shall have a ganders at that. Ta.
I think it is important to advise you all that Mr Lord and I have now reconciled.
*sniff*
Truly a beautiful moment.
:D
http://twitpic.com/zu9qt
riiight...
That is one seriously nice car though!
Seems quite apt to re-tweet-post this from Sniff Petrol.
I would fail him on his test for parking like that
hello
Hey dude.
I find those annoying. You go to a blog post, see (2) comments, and think 'ooh wonder what they are saying' and it's just the writer tweeting that the post is there, and someone retweeting that.
Aww, bless Jakey.
Doohickeyworks in school! :D Hey everyone!
hullo Tom
Doohickey works at work too
morning all
It didn't here before! Oh well, I'm not complaining... :D
It's the same for me. I think Mr C fixed it to work better in old versions of IE. Yay!
The way Rafa talks makes me really appreciate the English skills of F1 drivers.
I've also found a nice and perfectly legal way to get on Twitter round the filter. Tom - 1, Sixth Form - 0.
Whitmarsh says di Resta will drive on Fridays for Force India.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81064
talking about McLaren's third drivers, he gave this quote..
"I sense that there will be some drivers who think they are gainfully employed at the moment who may be available in the future".
Wonder if he has anyone in mind..
The tennis commentator just mentioned Jenson Button. Sports...colliding...
it's time to go to work. see you!
are you all stuck on IE or something?
This is where the world implodes :)
I've decided that being at work is even less fun than i remembered!
Mind = blown. Is Ted presenting sports news?
http://twitpic.com/zukns
WHAT?!?
gasp!
Looks like it was on the normal BBC News 24 as well. Will have to keep a eye out for the next sports round up on there...
On the twitpic page, someone mentions that Ted was also presenting on BBC World last night.
Ted is taking over the BBC.
that's proper ted news.
he must be trying to up his paycheck for some reason. Ted GP?
I wonder what lee is doing...
Who wouldn't like to up their paycheque :(
another one for the calendar:
This year's car, the RB6, will be unveiled in Spain on Wednesday, February 10
http://www.redbullracing.com/Car/Articles/2010-Car-Launch-Date-Announced/
but by doing more work? I want to get paid more to do exactly the same as I do now.
Looking forward to seeing that. Can't imagine they have just sat still with last years car, expecting them to be ahead of the curve again with car design
Nothing, sadly. She's so undercooked at the BBC :(
writing here, isn't she?
http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/
actually, her image has been removed? that didn't last long.
Two articles in November, before that it appears to be pre-season...
hehe, love the caption: http://twitpic.com/zup07
would help if i copied it:
Still practice the big braking when i am out of the sim... This is the first time i have to talk to the tv while i drive the sim!!! Flat out
Minor Finn news: Mika Mäki had a 2 day test with Audi and is trying to get into dtm. I hope he will do better than the last time he drove a quick car through Tampere pic
Hi guys
Good news regarding my NUCA application. They have received it but haven't processed it yet and all the slots for interviews seem to be just about full for February, so it looks like they'll have to give me one sometime in March. That's quite fortunate as it means I get pretty much a whole month to sort out my portfolio and showreel. :)
Since when were Friday drivers reintroduced?
He'll be doing it in his sleep soon.
As am i:
Jenson and Lewis at McLaren - Team GB
Schumacher and Rosberg at reborn Mercedes - Team Germany
Alonso and Massa at Ferrari
Kubica at a Flavio-less Renault with possible comeback for classic yellow and black colours
Red Bull will surely look strong
Lotus are back (sort of, even though it's really a Proton F1 car with a Lotus badge and a Cosworth engine)
Sauber's back
Senna name is back
F1's going retro! And I like it! :D
More possible rule changes
Formula 1 teams have agreed to introduce an extra strategic element to races this season by forcing leading drivers to start races on the same tyres that they qualified on, AUTOSPORT can reveal.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81069
Ted said that.
Oh sweet muscular Jesus!
Is there anything Ted can't do?
Next year they'll have to race whatever car they arrived at the track in
They really don't want proper quali to return, do they??
Or, more probably, we'll still see proper quali (they'll do it on softs), then everyone will stop at the same time at around 1/3 distance (switch to hards).
Is this another one of those rule changes that the teams think we need to make the racing better but actually we don't and it won't?
BBC are giving Ted a lot more airtime than ITV ever did, no?
Couldn't we just have had full-blown, cojones to the wall proper qualifying?
I don't think so.
That's annoying. I was expecting a long opening stint on hard tyres, then a fight to the flag on low fuel and soft tyres. That would've been fun.
ITV never truly saw the awesome in Ted :P
I guess they really fear that the fastest car will be on pole and waltz off into the distance come Sunday.
agreed. but i can see f1 loosing him soon.
When we discussed it in the show, we came to the conclusion that if they just let qualifying do what it's meant to, the races will be booooooooooring.
How so?
Indeed. But hey, this is awesome for Ted. :D
But we also agreed quali was the best part of the weekend?
Except they won't, because the car behaviour on Saturday with low fuel will be different to on Sunday with lots of fuel. Some cars might better suit one condition than the other.
That's possibly not what the people in charge want.
That's what I thought. But then, wouldn't they know this better than us? They make the cars after all.
pitlane reporter vs. news anchor?
So Ted News was a prophecy, not just a jingle!
apparently so.
Why not give a point for pole, so there's still something to go for and then the night before the race, they take a leaf out of BTCC's book and get someone to pick a number between 10 and 26 and the grid gets reversed up to that position?
Or is that just too confusing? :P
Precisely. This isn't necessarily needed. All those who have played sim racing games should know this...
Who could possibly replace Ted?
I could never follow that bit.
Yep, thought so :P
If Ted moves on to new stuff I think Brian Blessed should have a go
true. but what about meeeeeeee?
oh fine. yay for ted ;)
They used to do this in the NASCAR All-Star Race. Never really worked for me.
"IT'S 5 LIGHTS! CRY HAVOC AND LET SET THE DOGS OF WARRRRR!!!"
I guess the thing is, with cars so similar now, they might all end up behaving similarly anyway.
Or I guess that's what they fear.
That's just silly. You would turn F1 into a carnival. It works for BTCC because none of us take it seriously!
I sense another petition coming on.
according to nick daman... nick daman.
my friend I've been watching tennis with asked my advice on the grand prix as she wants to go this year but can only go on Saturday or Sunday as she can't afford both. I told her to go on Saturday.
It's as if the role was made for him :D
Wouldn't it be great if that happened and then the lights malfunctioned? I would literally die laughing :D
The malfunction actually being caused by the loudness of his own voice :D
grrrrrr. I'm stuck in my free with all the work I had to do today finished.. everything else is at home but most websites are either blocked or not loading due to rubbish IE. boo!
how is everyone today?
But why? The Aussie race tends to be very eventful and exciting. :D
because qualifying ruuuuuuules.
Actually thinking about it, you wouldn't need the starting lights any more. Just wait for him to shout "GOOOOOOOOOOOOO O". Even with helmets and earplugs in, they'd still hear him!
fact.
I found out she likes Lewis and doesn't like Jenson and she started telling me something about the Brazilian GP last year so I get the feeling she watched it. I would like it if she never goes back to England please.
Oh IE... when will schools ever learn?
Least all your work you had to do for today is finished though?
:D
and she doesn't doohickey?
She's a nice girl, you dirty old man!
not unless there is a tennis doohickey? (can there be? :D)
i've got plenty tp do at home.. just not here. have to wait another 10 minutes before i can leave without them caring :)
:D That was hilarious.
erm, actually when this is finished. i guess so.
new-new doohickey is quite... modular.
......!
new-new? hehe.
this does intrigue me though.
and less of the "old".
we may have naming issues.
This one is the newhickey. So... newerhickey?
Adrian newhickey?
:D
That's it!
for all we know you could be 52, mr. never shows his face.
I am very keen on the cause: age is nothing but a number but even so, I am NOT married to a 52 year old.
why would you want to look at me, when you can look at the gorgeous christine?
Aww. What have you done?
nowt. fair comment though.
. o O ( my work here is done! )
I like how mr C can't even offer a lovely compliment without suspicioun :)
Now, if he had a milky bar on the other hand...
Well, no, Milky Bars are also treated with suspicion. Until I eat them.
*notes down*
Sidepodcast is a life learning experience.
HAHA! :D
Hi everyone, do any of you guys know if the Indy Car Series is going to be shown on British TV this year?
hey benji. it's shown online, i think (or at least some races were last year). that help at all?
I'm sure this is no surprise but guess who Silverstone are waiting on again for a decision? This is concerning the new Silverstone layout for F1
"It's yet to be decided," he told AUTOSPORT during a site visit to the Silverstone works. "We need approval from three sides. So far two have said yes and one [Ecclestone] says maybe, so we'll work on that."
Oh Bernard. There's a picture of the construction works on the article and it looks infinitely more construct-y than anything being run by Simon Gillett ;)
Yeah thats really helpful thanks Mr C, I just heard that Skysports will not be showing NASCAR this year but nothing about IRL as yet but if there is online coverage then that is great! Great debreif show last weekend Mr C, has ''Hulme'' been back?
Its not exactly helpful I know, but I'm pretty sure one of these three channels with have IRL and Nascar in the UK...Eurosport (don't think its them) Motors TV or ESPN (think its likely them)
am going to try and watch a couple of races online if they're available. please yell if you do the same.
mr. hulme has vanished without a trace sadly :(
I nearly spit tea out there - brilliant!
My understanding is that Sky Sports should still have it.
talking of which, some interesting points:
http://forums.autosport.com/index.php?showtopic=122615&st=0&p=4095458entry4095458
Yep, I'm just looking and they are saying its still on Sky Sports here http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=1204007
Thanks for that Paul at least now I can keep a look out and see if they appear on those channels so thats great thanks pal.
although i just noticed the green branding has gone from around the page and i'm not logged in or nothing.
No worries. Pretty sure I seen some coverage for Indy cars and Nascar on ESPN last year and I wouldn't expect them to drop it since they have ESPN America to show all that on.
Fox and ESPN I beleive split the broadcasting coverage of NASCAR so I guess its reasonable to expect it to appear on ESPN here in the UK this year perhaps, I think it is ''Versus'' which SKY got their IRL feed from.
I see that the top 10 in F1 qualifying will start the race on the same tyre compounds.
#Forza 3 News
Turn 10 have teamed up with Jalopnik.com and are currently running a series of polls for the Forza 3 community to vote on which 10 cars out of 120 will go into a DLC pack which will come out later this summer. They're doing the voting with 3 polls each day, 20 cars in each poll. Yesterday's voting is all done and here's the top 10 of the 30 cars which got the most votes:
1. 1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth: 7894
2. 1999 BMW M5: 7713
3. 1982 DeLorean DMC-12: 7098
4. 1977 Aston Martin V8 Vantage: 7017
5. 1960 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato: 6968
6. 1982 Lancia 037 Stradale: 6955
7. 1994 Porsche 928 GTS: 6806
8. 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder: 6789
9. 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500: 6709
10. 1971 De Tomaso Pantera: 6706
I for one am particularly pleased to see the two Cossies and the Lancia 037 in there. :D
The first of today's 3 polls will be up on the site in 10 minutes!
Well ESPN cover the DTM and Eurosport covers WTCC, GP2, IRC, Renault World Series and Le Mans. Then Motors TV normally covers anything that left over and all the odd stuff like the New Zealand Jetsprint championship etc.
We are rather well covered for motorsport if you have Sky
Oooh, niiiiice!
http://jalopnik.com/5456977/ken-blocks-new-ford-rally-car-is-monstrously-cool
He even got a 'for sure' in there. Top marks!
THAT is how you light a new livery.
Mr C, can i voice a random homepage idea?
How about a flashplayer and download link to your 'latest podcast' between the carousel and the recent posts box?
I dont know if that will kill the bandwidth/speed, but i do miss being able to do it! Having said that i do love the new homepage design! :D
That looks far to busy for my liking. The M-Sport Fiesta S2000 that Mikki Hiroven run at the Monte Carlo rally looks much better imo
http://fiestas2000.com/index.php/joomgallery?func=viewcategory&catid=12
can do, but not flash. flash won't work on the iphone, hence why the old player been pulled from the sidebar.
will have a play with some html5 stuff and see what we can do.
Is it the ipad/islate/icantthinkofanythingelse announce tomorrow?
Google just released a google voice mobile web app for the iPhone. I'll have to check it out!
yes
ah thats cool
Awesome, from what i have seen html 5 is awesome
I have been learning today why everyone hates IE6 so much :(
I am tempted to create it a breakout thread of it's own.
it's a bit new, but i do like our search box in chrome/safari.
yes please!
and what have you learned? :P
To open sites with it before telling the developer he has done a good job!
i disagree. we should stop supporting it deliberately in order to aid its demise.
Afternoon Sidepodworld, I need your help.
Am filling in an MSA Media form and it says
"Each applicant must supply a letter on headed paper signed by a senior
employee of a terrestrial television, major satellite broadcaster, radio
station or website publisher authorising you to represent that company
at motor sport events during the licensing period"
Do I write a letter saying that I am the owner and as such authorised to represent the 'organisation' because the only other option to my mind is to say "I Jon authorise Jon to represent the organisation at motor sport events etc" which just seems silly.
"Dear...
I am writing this letter to confirm that I, Jonathan Waldock, am the website publisher and owner of The Feeder Series and as such have authorisation to represent the organisation at motor sport events. Yours etc etc"
Thoughts?
It seems to take longer to fix a site for IE6 than to code it in the first place which is nuts
You should be using something other than IE anyway, even the German and French governments have been telling people that recently
I would love too, unfortuantly its not my decsion
I'd say so. Why wouldn't you give yourself permission when you actually own the site?
form? on paper?
yup. ive got to fill in a form and send a letter. it's very old school
my thoughts exactly.
Blimey. That's dedication right there.
if you get national accreditation, it makes it alot easier to get access to the international events at british circuits; wtcc, dtm etc
wtcc being f2 and dtm being f3 euro series
Sounds like a great idea,
I would love to do something like that
Definitely dedication.
ESPN International holds the rights to sell the NASCAR feed around the world, and Sky's 2yr deal ended. Don't know who owns IRL rights now, it used to be the same way.
am impressed with your dedication to the cause good chap.
Has anyone else read Terry Lovells Book on Bernie?
I am amazed at how he went around killing off all rival motorsport series to F1 in the 90's. Especialy the TV coverage
I had no idea it had happened at all
he's a lovely person, isn't he?
ta. it's fun and i enjoy it, am interested to see where it takes me
the worst they can say is no!
He is remarkable....
I wasnt sure about the book, but i think every f1 fan should read it.
I dont agree with everything he has done, especialy lately, but he certainly knows how to get things done and somehow take a cut.
The could say it in caps :P
NOOOOO
of course. and then you badger them until they say yes.
eeeeeeexactly :D
So can anyone put in an application? Or do you have to have done something significant before you can apply?
Looks like Silverstone might use the new track afterall http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81070
Really hope they do
Depends what you're applying for. If its written stuff then you have to have proof in appropriate magazines etc,
http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/Media_Renewal_online_form.pdf
have a read
I want them to keep bridge!!! :(
I love taking that corner flat on sim games :(
Why?
brilliant idea
And besides, it's not even a "new" section! It's just a link up of the South and National circuits.
I dont like the current track all that much, i will confess to being slightly disappointed it didnt go to donnington
Speaking of new layouts, did anyone see Bahrain's new one?
Apologies if it was brought up yesterday.
I want a discount on tickets if their is going to be less laps!!!!
It's almost as if Tilke decided it wasn't Tilke enough and demanded a sector that summed up his tracks.
Well just like Silverstone's Arena layout, it's just an extension using part of an existing configuration.
is it. except it's a form... on paper!
Both of them are completely unecessary. I'd take Silverstone's change though if I'm honest, although I;d prefer they kept in the bridge bit and change the few corners following it.
Bahrain though, yeesh.
Maybe he heard it was JYS's favourite modern track!
As i said last week...
GP2 and GP3, all online, upload a photo. very simple
i didn't see that, but i do approve.
does gp2 access get you free entrance to a gp? cause we could all claim to work for sidepodcast and greatly reduce our spa costs.
:D
having seen the f2 one, (forms *yawn*) i sat down ready to have a go at the gp2 one, and within 5 minutes i was done. Then i had another 30 minutes to spare. Didnt know what to do with myself!
aha....i think it may...
yay! am finally home, to a world of proper internet, nice web browsers and er... work.. hm..
excellent. who's up for writing some guest posts?
Do those who've already written one need to do another one? :P
dangit
Too bad Spa is, well, WAY across the ocean for me!
dunno. jon?
I think i may have promised 2... i will try and do one in the next 7 days ;)
it was all going so well until that last one :(
sidepodcast overseas correspondent?
I know the feeling, jpancoast. Grrrrrr.
Anyhow, gotta get to bed. Get writing, folks! ;)
and?
i don't do paper.
night sir.
i'm staying out of this one :D aha, no i have no idea. however, theres a whole load of guest post-worthy content over at www.feederseries.net
ahem
byeee
i presume its paper for the signatures, some people do like a hard copy of that kind of thing
night!
Unless you've got a PC tablet, you can't really do a signature online can you?
i guess not.
nope. hense the "publishers" letter that i am writing
I did, printed e-mail, signed, scanned, emailed back.
night
printed on what?
Although this did use paper ;(
But i guess i could have printed it on a t-shirt with the same end result :)
So you thinking of turning The Feeder Series into a magazine in the future?
we've just received delivery of dad's new mobile phone, he's away this evening which means i get to play with the phone till he comes back.. it's very pretty. This evening could turn out better than planned.
You're too fast!
I blame your web connection ;)
the thought of doing a small e-magazine has crossed my mind, i'll try it out one day im sure.
THEFEEDERSERIES
Ahh the joy of messing with a new gadget :D
So something like GP+?
That must be it :P
good luck chap. yell if it needs plugging.
i am slightly stunned that there's still interest in journalism, given the direction things are heading.
make sure you have a back up career.
with less capitals and more spaces, but yeah.
Free definitely for a while, but if there was some good content and a good readership of it then yeah maybe.
the idea has always fallen down because of a lack of people to write, but im an idiot for thinking that, because there are lots of people who im sure would want to help if they could.
oh no, i dont want to be a journalist, i cant write for other people and to deadlines, i write because i want to write, if im told to do a certain amount of words on a certain subject by 2 days away then its always rubbish. i do this because ive learnt loads about web stuff and its just alot of fun and keeps me from being completely bored by the lack of stuff i have to do elsewhere
Sadly not. Bernie's pearly gates will not swing open for you. You don't even get into the circuit media centre. Even the GP2 correspondents of a certain illustrious MAGAZINE over the years have had to file their copy from the GP2 catering tent (which, by the way, makes it a great place for doorstepping team folk and drivers).
i think some sanctioning people are slow to catch on
perfect.
For the American Sidepodcast readers / listeners / people
SpeedTV is starting their annual "Super 7 Sweepstakes." It a neat contest where you have to fill in seven drivers from seven racing series (NASCAR Sprint, NASCAR Truck, NASCAR Nationwide, Rolex Grand-Am, ALMS, IRL, and Formula One) to try to get the best result of that weekend. There are weekly and monthly prizes that are really good. For example this month's prize is a awesome 1/18 model of a Ferrari P4 that won the Dayton 24hours in 1967.
Contest stipulate that you have to be a resident of Canada and U.S. only. Sorry to vast majority of the sidepodcast audience for that. However, I've started a sidepodcast league.
LINK: https://windtunnel.fmfl.net/Default.aspx
The league name is: Sidepodcast
The password is: Christine
you mean we're going to have to pay?
:(
You not wrong.
This is going to be the year of the crappy e-zine. There are dozens about to be unleashed, and I sense they're going to be uniformly awful...
i couldnt do journalism, it'd likely trample my creativity-side a bit
Oh hey all!
i think you get into the circuit for free dont you? just not the f1 paddock?
stuart?
is that because they've looked at the gp+ model and liked the look of it?
i wouldn't have thought that were true?
depends what it was that i was doing.
Some "journalists" are very creative.
ie, they're big fat liars! ;)
Ask the New York Times.
Via the tradesman's entrace!
Not even that. Most of them think they can give it away for free, use bloggers to provide the content gratis, and turn a coin on the ad revenue.
They are deluded!
we should set up "e-zine watch". see how long they last.
hence why we've dropped ads :)
I havent written a letter in ages.
Is it
"Yours sincerely"
and then a big space for your signature and then your name printed, or printed
Yours sincerely,
Jonathan Waldock
BIG GAP for signature
The first one. That's what I've always known it to be.
I actually kind of agree. It's funny, publishing is starting to get back in the 17th century where every semi-educated person could get their voices hear as long as they could afford a printing press.
It's funny, on face book I got a few messages from a one of these guys to write an article for them. I said sure and asked if they need any help. I really haven't that much from them since.
I do it this way, then actualy type your name after the big gap if thats what you meant ;)
either way works though :)
ive done
Yours sincerely (typed)
Signature (written)
Jonathan Waldock (typed)
etc
Sounds good
For added effect use a blue pen ;)
shhhh.
could have told me before!
firmly attach (for a photo) means pritt stick right?
:D hehe it really isnt important!
I did it to make the exhibitor passes for the guys at Classic Team Lotus soooo....
Id tape or staple
i have to send 2, one firmly attached and one loosely attached
I guess the firmly attached one is so it stays with the letter in a file?
i presume so
There is a rather humorous Penny Arcade comic about the iPad/iSlate/iTab/iTablet/iWhatever. Not the newest one, but go back a day.
Will not link here because it's NSFS, those in the know know how to find it ;)
Heres an odd question for you...
"when attending events in your licenced capacity do you come into contact with minors under age 18?" yes or no?
how on earth do i answer that?
tick both
phoned the MSA, the guy said that it means if you come in contact with anyone under 18 whilst doing media work, so as im covering junior series, we decided on yes.
a very odd question, i wonder why they ask
Maybe it's for them to do a check on whether you're a....you know...
Its probably a legal liability question
tis likely. how odd
When I wrote and photographed back in college, we would need to get consent from a parental guardian in order to interview or photograph people under 16 in certain situations. That might be a similar "cover the publishers" back sort of move.
Evening all! :)
Renault bring back the yellow teapot paint scheme?
Oh yes please.
Oooooohhhhh. That looks so good, they have to do that!
i need to know what this relates to:
Eyes fuzzy from writing more than I've had too in a long while! I thought F1 team media kits were a lot of work! LG plans & internet - phew!
lg, f1, internet...
http://twitter.com/EmBuxton/status/8240416336
ooooh...
Veryyyyyyyy interesting
(*Dan strokes his beard with a interested look on his face.*)
And another video of Kimi's test: http://www.katsomo.fi/?progId=30898
I hope that works, you might have to click "jatkaa"

Home again. Whoever invented hot showers and cups of tea is a genius, pick you up after a rubbish day :-)
A shower is heaven in a pipe.
So do I. As much as I love Bridge as a corner, I think this'll make the circuit a bit faster (as Silverstone should be) and create passing places.
That's interesting, they've taken down the grandstands at the current pit straight in order to widen the track. First I've heard that.
rallying looks awesome!!
I just love the looks of a rally car going through the snow.
will the new arena section be open to fans with general admission tickets?
Brundle's on BBC Look East doing a segment on the London 2012 Olympic stadium!
First Ted, now Brundle. Who next - Legard?
Actually, on second thoughts...
Is there any member of the BBCF1 team not doing sports news right now?!
My hands have had so much washing up liquid on them today that they don't feel like skin anymore!
I've heard of that, Speedgeek mentioned it to me the other day. I didn't realise there were prizes!
I'm doing something like it on my blog (no prizes, I'm afraid) but with different championships.
But you could have had that privilege here!
Ted needs to be in the bob sleigh pits at the winter olympics! :D
I like that :-)
ooh, will watch shortly.
thanks btw
Gee thanks nick, you're too kind!
another vid from usf1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NX3tDw4qMI
interview with a wiring company.
Dare I say... they might actually have a car by the time of their launch?
Or at least I'm more confident now of USf1 getting there than Campos, at least
Awesome..
Also loving the magic youtube embed, very awesome :D
I aim to please!
I think these are pretty darn good. They need to continue doing "meat and potato" stuff like this
Not entirely sure that @JAIMEALGUERSUAR is the real deal on Twitter. His grasp of English, especially for someone who specifically stayed in the UK (Norwich) for a year so he could brush up on it, isn't very good is it?
not at all. watching with interest.
I'll ask matey boy at Red Bull.
ahh, good plan.
if he's not, you may want to tell scott speed.
Doctor Who pic: http://www.dwin.org/expressionengine/index.php/site/a_photo_every_fan_needs_to_see/
Impossible! :)
I didn't know Stefan GP had a website?
http://www.stefangp.com/index.html
news to me.
jobs section: "Slightly advantage if you are ex Toyota F1!"
is that legal? :)
:D
I also appreciate the picture on this news article
http://www.stefangp.com/news004.html
It makes me smile
"this...? why this is a car"
did I see a gearbox on the floor near the beginning of this video?
Email sent.
I believe it to be a spotty herbert leading people up the garden path. Wouldn't mind being proven wrong for a change though.
who owns a race suit and boots though?
Maybe Jaime Algeursaur does.
Although Alguersaur sounds like a dinosaur.
I dont know if any laws cover an organisiation which is only 'Basicly' from somewhere :D
unless it's scott speed having a laugh. he'd own a pair, right?
Wouldn't be too difficult for him to take a snap of himself would it though? Rather than his dull life from a first-perspective view.
james has a good post on attending testing:

I love Dos Equis award-winning advertising campaign that tells the tale of "The Most Interesting Man in the World."
They really need one of him going around Monaco in a Maseratti 250F or something like that.
Evening all
Hi Steven
Ac quick take on some recent comment
Thanks for the Kimi vid Kathi
Yellow and black Renault gest a gold star
Bradley Lord back to Renault means AUTOSPORT has a gap for a column writer. Wonder who they will get?
he worked for autosport too? i thought it was just renault?
doh!
... just F1 RACING
Seeing how the economy and indsutry is going, is worth them bring another person on?
Evening Steven. Yeah he took over the slot left vacant by Roebuck.
He has been doing one of THEIR main columns for at least a year. The two main column writers are him and Mark Hughes. Presumably he can't do that and work for Renault at the same time.
I thought you read the online issues.
Depends what he does for them. They need to get a good message out if Renault are going to pull out
i did. but i have the memory of...
Definitely a gearbox casing. Whether there is anything in it is a different matter but intro to the video is a flythrough of the gearbox internals so they must have something
His column is called The Spotter. It is usuall two pages before or after Mark Hughes's column.

the problem with the only stuff is that it doesn't appear to have been archived anywhere.
grr.
*online stuff.
typing fail. back later.
Hehehehehehe.
Can't help but wonder what happened to Lopez that he was racing in GP2 and doing F1 testing and then just vanished.
Paul di Resta is going to run Fridays??? What year is this? I is confused.
I really don't understand this. Presumably McLaren want to see what he is made of but why do that when they have just signed up a second driver on a multi-year contract?
You have to believe the regular FIF1 drivers are going to be looking over their shoulders at him for a number of reasons. First one of them is not going to run on a Friday. Then there is the possibility that he is going to trash their car, engine allocation, tyre allocation before they actually sit in the car.
This is odder than the Argetinian goverment announcing J Lo
Go Paul though.
Spose I may plug my new blog post, seems relevant to recent topics about car liveries
http://lairoftheraven.wordpress.com/2010/01/26/the-good-and-the-bad-f1-livery-from-1991/
Just tried a search for "The Spotter". Not a single return on the whole internet. Bradley has a wikipedia page but they seem confused. They think he is an American ice skater who died on a Sabena flight in 1961.
I used to work with a Belgian guy who swore Sabena stood for Such A Bad Experience-Never Again. Looks like he was right.
Yeah that seems rather confusing to me aswell. Isn't running a third driver on Fridays banned? Even if they do just run two drivers during the Friday practice sessions they would still be using three drivers.
It is good to see him getting a chance in a F1 car though
Do you mean those?
http://www.autosport.com/postalstrike/
What I was trying to say was: Do you mean those or the online plus stuff
Happens to a lot of good drivers. It happened to McNish. He had almost given up on racing when he was offered a guest car for the Porsche race at the British GP. Everyone who ever got in those guest cars regardless of pedigree was hopeless because they are such odd cars and the regulars have them sussed. McNish was so quick he was drafted into Porsches Le Mans team and won that. The rest is history.
Tommy Byrne who Senna dodged had McLaren test that has gone down in legend for how fast he was and it later came out McLaren had rigged the car to make sure he was slow and he was still faster than their regular drivers. He did 5 GPs in a rubbish car and never sat in an F1 car again.
It happens all the time. The drivers who make it are not always the best and those that disappear are often those lick McNish, Byrne and Mike Thackwell who are world championship material.
I should add Franck to that list. I know he gets discussed here because of Christine but the guy is genuinely serious F1 material. There was someone recently - Joe maybe - who suggested Renault stopped being competitive when Franck stopped doing their test driving.
Look at di Resta. Beat Vettel to the Euro F3 title when they where team mates. Vettel is now the greatest thing on the planet and diResta has just had his first proper test.
The driver market has a lot of chaos in it
Yeah without a doubt that is very true. The Lopez case just seems rather strange with the Argentinian government backing him and what not, and its even more rare these days to see someone get a second chance at a F1 seat. Normally get one try and thats it now.
I'm guessing it helps the second chances when 4 teams are added that all need drivers and testers.
We are talking about the stuff that is normally in the print issue but appeared online during the postal strike
Definitely. It does seem odd that with government backing he could not get a seat before.
The new teams have opened up a lot of extra seats, and those teams more so than the big car manufactures I would imagine are looking for drivers who are bringing money to the team.
The other thing is the new teams don't have established young driver programs that effectively force them to take drivers from those schemes to justify their existence
Evening all.
Hi RG
I've said this before, the car might be "American" but the entire racing team is pure Peter Windsor and all his buddies. Carlos Reutermann and Peter go way back to the early days of Williams when Carlos was a driver and Peter worked in their set up.
Carlos wants to bring F1 to the forefront again in Brazil. He supports young drivers like Lopez. He had the political and monetary capital to help him along. Peter had the seat available and needed the money. Done and done.
Sorry. right church, wrong pew.
As an American, you only have to get the correct hemisphere.
It's one of our god-given rights!
As a person who was the Washington state Runner Up for the National Geographic Geography Bee, I am rather embarrassed by getting that wrong.
brian mcfadden...? sidepodcast...?

*dies*
It's in return for the Backstreet Boys :)
It had to happen some day
awwwwwww
(hugs)
I go into a new tab on the ol' Doohickey, click the Active Thread to see the post and the screen goes all white like its loading. Only on that tab as well?
blame picapp.
just listened to the latest podcast.
was great to hear Mr Mrs C swear. especially as it was well placed and utterly reflective of teh topic he was swearing at.
Love the new nickname too
I am shocked that this is a story on this site. Even GMM wouldn't run this
Ah.
And to think the over day I was in the middle of a post which was prasing it ;)
i'm soooo happy!
#needsmorebrian
I am so lost right now...
i swore?
Be glad.
I listened to the show twice and don't remember it
For a moment I thought you meant saying Brian McFadden was swearing. To some, perhaps :)
I didn't think you did
I remember MR C said something that I was surprised he said, but I'm not sure it was a swear word.
After you gave the final say on the castrol rankings.
im 100% sure you said it was "f***ed" after you discussed the faux commenter who was a haymarket employee
Twice steven!!
i promised you i didn't.
Not possible.
You don't think it was good enough to listen to it twice? Normally I watch the live show then listen to the edit so this is as close to normal as I can get while being deprived of the live shows.
Swearing normally only happens on the live stuff then Christine makes him redo it without the offending language. I would be surprised if it made it through recording and editing
Good evening all!
Hello sir.
Ill have to listen again, but i did wind back and listen twice to be sure, coz i shook my head and said "na, couldnt be"
ill listen again though.
at first it sounded like "fecked" like they do in the tailenders cartoons about USF1.
Hi Adie
How are you all?
Find out what time it was at and we can all check it
woops wrong thread.
Christine would never allow it. Family show and all.
They said it all the time on Father Ted. That's family entertainment, it's a programme about priests.
*cried from the daily*
you seem to assume that i'd say such a word.
I'm trying my best....
Still not impressed.
But it's Apple! It will have to be wonderful
You didn't.
Found it. Mr C said "this is FACT"
i DON'T.
:)
:)
On a slightly related note - I enjoyed the podcast. As ever it helped me through a tedious day at work.
Well, working from home which is not as fun as it sounds. Especially with only the pet fish to talk to - and looking forward to the postman delivering letters.
What is your fish called?
I've posted this before, but you can find out how the Apple product cycle works here. It's long but worth it.
http://www.misterbg.org/AppleProductCycle/
Wanda?
19m30s or so. It was after Christine quoted my comment and you were both discussing Autosport's assertion that it was definitive.
I remember.
I have lots, 180L tank they have many names. Serge, The Kings of Neon, Jess the Cat...........fish amongst many
"And I will call you... LUNCH! HEEELLLOOO LUNCH!"
:-D
Cool. I likes fishes.
I had a marine tank with clown fish once. What a load of work that was!
ahhh, FACT. Makes sense. I thought it was an adjective aimed at the rankings system. its a word i would use to describe it. ]
Ah! Good stuff. I'll upload a few photos to the drop later.
Yay!
good that we had this conversation though, clearly i must work on my diction.
i said diction.
Hehehe.
I think if it had been in a different context (ie, not talking about the rankings) he may not have even thought you said that bad word.
I am home, rash and all! :P
yeah sure. Working on your own diction is a perfectly natural thing to do Mr Mrs C.
Too many possible punchlines. I must resist
These aren't the ones of *my* fish but these are what's in the tank:
Denesonii Barb X4
Bosmani Rainbow Fish X2
Blue Rainbow Fish X2
Penguin Tetra X6
Harlequin Rasbora X6
:(
I've done too much cleaning! My hands are sore :(
I have learned that if you like your workplace to be clean, you should never take a holiday and leave someone else in charge!
Fresh water tropical. Cool. I love fish tanks.
Don't you have staff to do that?
Always a problem when you have high standards
you should come and work with me - we have people with CDO that's OCD but in alphabetical order. My workplace is always clean.
Ah so you don't come back from holiday to find peaches rotting on your desk? Joy!
We were all cleaning. You underestimate the filth....
I'm about to start an assignment on "the reasons behind the integration between the Aerospace and Motor race industrys, (includ supporting evidence paying particular attention to hte early use of inverted aerofoil sections and the advancements of such)"
I'm going to do the usual google searches, but if anyone knows of any sites that it wont pick up then pleasee sling them my way :)
Steven Roy? Unless he's on Google now?
I am not sure where the inverted aerofoil in F1 came from. I know Lotus was about the first to introduce it but it may be wort looking at Matra who made cars for the Tyrrell team and Matra are/were an aerospace company.
Another example worth looking at is the first fully carbon monocoque that McLaren used was actually made by Hercules aerospace in the states.
Just doing a quick read up on the introduction of wings. Lotus was first to use them in F1 which I knew but I can't find any aerospace link there yet. Matra soon introduced some wings that were controlled by the brake pedal so that they were flat on the straights for max speed and popped up in the corners for max downforce.
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Formula_One Jim Hall had wings on his Chaparral sportscars before anyone in F1 so it may be worth looking for an aerospce link to Hall but again I am not aware of one.
I will never understand why Hall is virtually unknown when he was years ahead of everyone on so many things. His name and contribution needs to be more widely known.
#ipad
The first game has already been announced for the ipad
http://kotaku.com/5457527/first-apple-tablet-game-officially-announced-[update]
Apparently, Campos can't even do furniture right!
http://www.yelp.com/biz/campos-furniture-manassas
doh!
That reminds me of a website of a review of hospitals in America, and a hospital called Sacred Heart has a load of responses from various Scrubs characters. :)
All jokes aside it will be terrible for Bruno Senna if Campos royally balls up this season.
I should walk in there and ask how the chassis' coming along, but they'd probably just look at me weird and force me to buy a table.
did you see whitmarsh's comments today?
No
I don't think I did....can you elaborate?
There was a comment this morning showing a comment from Whitmarsh saying how someone who is currently seeing himself as employed could be of use soon. I'll have to dig it down using the supersearch.
Ah, here we go.
"I might be wrong, but one can imagine that the driver market and maybe the entrants will be slightly more volatile than they have been in recent years. I sense that there will be some drivers who think they are gainfully employed at the moment who may be available in the future."
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81064
"I might be wrong, but one can imagine that the driver market and maybe the entrants will be slightly more volatile than they have been in recent years. I sense that there will be some drivers who think they are gainfully employed at the moment who may be available in the future."
That all makes sense to my muddled memory. I thought wings were in sports cars before F1. In the US?
I think the Lotus ones were more guesswork than science though?
Fascinating topic.
grrrr
*barrowman*
:P
Oh dear. Is Martin saying things he shouldn't again? Is Campos part of FOTA?
I have never been aware of an aerospace link to the early wings. You don't need to know an awful lot to bend aluminium into a basic aerofoil shape. All you really need is for one side to be longer than the other and it will generate lift. In the early days the wings were just an aerofoil section albeit it stuck on three foot high struts. Given the failure rate I don't think there was a great deal of science involved.
Absolutely
He just can't help it can he?
I'm reasonably sure he shouldn't have mentioned di Resta's Friday role just yet, too... surely one for the FIF1 launch?
Good point, but it's the classic PR style stunt. Releasing another team's news but somehow featuring yours in the same statement.
It might not seem it, but if it was planned it was pretty shrewd.
Maybe they want it leaked so that everyone at the launch is not focussing on that
That makes a little more sense, with the FIF1 - Mclaren tie-in. Not so much Campos. Or maybe he was talking about FIF1? Hmm.......
So we can start the Bruno Senna to be Pedro-s replacement rumours?
Nah, I think it'll be Petr..
Err, I mean Pedro isn't going to be bad...
I've just listened to it. The word is FACT. I laughed at the possibility of it being something else but knew it wasn't.
Ahh, BBC have confused Lopez with di Grassi : http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/drivers_and_teams/8481124.stm
And with that, goodnight.
Evening everyone :)
Night RG
Hi Alex
shift change.
Makes a change from people leaving in batches
I am commenting from a cab. Interestingly I am just passing the ministry of sound (picture on the drop)
Very much so, time for me to go too. Night guys
ah... i'll be taking over Lukeh's shift then... hello.
Night Lukeh
that's the thing. You never see me and RG in the same place*
*except all of the times that you do.
This is getting scary
phew.
Hello Lou. Night Lukeh.
i didn't plan it.. have finished all my work for the evening and sidepodcast/f1/the internet has broken my body clock so much that it is impossible for me to sleep till 12. That and i really don't want to go to sleep straight after reading about Hitler and my history course.
so... how is everyone on this shift?
You finished studying for the night Lou?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-408
i presume its paper for the signatures, some people do like a hard copy of that kind of thing
Unless you've got a PC tablet, you can't really do a signature online can you? {Comment #360}
My PDA can do online signatures, due to a combination of a stylus and a note-taking package that came with the device. It also has VSPainter Lite, a drawing programme, as an add-on. You could also scan in your signature using a scanner.
doing very well. Just had a very interesting meeting reviewing my novel.
It has been pretty quiet tonight.
indeed. i've tried very hard to stay motivated today but i don't seem as enthusiastic about everything. fact is i've got a ton of textiles to do and no time to do it in.. :s
Good thank. Awaiting exciting news tomorrow. Can divulge more then!
Tell us more
I think my body clock is similar. I'm planning an early night an hour earlier than I've been going to bed recently, and it is scary that 12.30 is an early night.
everytime i seem to pop by/ check the comments just recently it seems much quieter... off season for the comments?
oooooo!! :) a good interesting i take it :)
Interesting good, or interesting bad?
i think the rumours were mentioned earlier about renault having a yellow and black livery this season, well it looks to be true :)
http://www.confidential-renault.fr/La-livree-2010-Renault-F1-se-devoile-i427
It's tough to stay motivated
I am sure it will pick up soon
*looks worried that she should know this...* what's the ministry of sound? *braces self for possible embarrassment in her lack of knowledge*
it really is. worst thing is textiles is the one subject i need to get the A in for Uni's... not that i've even had an interview yet
#impatient :)
Doesn't look right with red endplates
Oooo...Good spot.
I believe it may be an incredibly famous club where people do daning and stuff
its 11.30pm?!?!
As long as it doesn't have the same nose as last year, I don't mind what colour they are.
I am sure it will work out just fine.
lets hope so :)
good thanks. i went to see Hentry Olonga tonight (ex-zimbabwayan (aha, good spelling) cricketer) was very good, now just cutting the final 100ish words from my assignment
we should set up "e-zine watch". see how long they last. {Comment #393}
I'm still waiting for the one I've signed up to help to get back to me on whether I'm supposed to be writing, proofreading or both (only 3 months since the last e-mail)...
I am glad the Creme Egg mess has gone but I don't see the point of running black and yellow with red enplates. They just ruin it
well before it goes to publishers. I have distributed my novel to a set of trusted reviewers. They aren't necessarily best friends but are people who Are widely read and won't sugar coat and will tell me what they think. I have so far had 4 of these review sessions. I have two more then I write the 3rd draft then it goes to be edited by a friend who does that professionally. Then those edits are incorporated into the 4th draft. Then it goes to another 6 reviewers (and any of the first batch who want to go again). Then it gets drafted again (5th) then edited again. Those are incorporated (6th) then it goes to the publishers :)
Heres an odd question for you...
"when attending events in your licenced capacity do you come into contact with minors under age 18?" yes or no?
how on earth do i answer that? {Comment #410}
Truthfully. It's probably a child protection question. It may help them to decide if they need to do a basic CRB on you. For most people, this simply means a delay of a few weeks, but it avoids trouble down the line if you do happen to interview a precocious 17-year-old.
Dreary day got better with the aid of a shower, a tea, cooking sweet'n'sour chicken, watching MotoGP and writing the entry post for round 1 of my game thing...
I think I've finally figured out how to be productive in the evenings.
I guess they need the red for Total. but I agree it does ruin it.
That sounds like a lot of work to finish a book
well it's nothing compared with writing it :)
see, thats what i was thinking. but i didnt have to give any details other than my address and number, no date of birth etc which you'd expect for a CRB
jobs section: "Slightly advantage if you are ex Toyota F1!"
is that legal? :) {Comment #457}
The contract is almost certainly Serbian, so I imagine it could be. It's not an EU country, after all...
ah right.. :)
...with a line of compilation/mix CDs and their own record label...
see, thats what i was thinking. but i didnt have to give any details other than my address and number, no date of birth etc which you'd expect for a CRB {Comment #648}
They may well ask for those when they decide to apply for the CRB, or else they may send you the form to fill and ask you to send in (possibly even pay for - check the information you have) yourself. If the date of birth isn't relevant to a standard media application, then there would be no call to ask that until the CRB itself.
Right all....off to bed.
Nighty night!!
night
seriously think I've missed something huge here... Not sure how it's escaped me though
true i guess. it just seems like an oddly worded question. all media people for national events will come into under 18's at some point because they are often the familys of drivers!
Night Adie
night
Night Adie
It was very big in the 80s so a bit before your time. I didn't kow it was still going
I can't wait to read your book once it's been published Alex :)
Ministry of sound i presume we're still talking about?
They're still pretty big but mainly on the r&b london-club-scene
Really big in the late 90s. May have faded for a bit but I've noticed them advertising a bit more recently.
ahh fair enough. Then again i probably wouldn't have known about it if it had been big in the 90s either. I led a sheltered childhood lol
I'm back.
Briefly.
Found This
Oooo......
The countdown is at less than 50 days so it is allowed
Paul di Resta is going to run Fridays??? What year is this? I is confused.
I really don't understand this. Presumably McLaren want to see what he is made of but why do that when they have just signed up a second driver on a multi-year contract?
You have to believe the regular FIF1 drivers are going to be looking over their shoulders at him for a number of reasons. First one of them is not going to run on a Friday. Then there is the possibility that he is going to trash their car, engine allocation, tyre allocation before they actually sit in the car. {Comment #487}
I can only assume this is designed to give Paul good preparation in case he needs to do some substitution. But yes, I can see why Sutil and Liuzzi might be worried, since I don't think either has a contract for 2011...
45 days infact :)
thanks lou :)
Not that countdown. This one

true i guess. it just seems like an oddly worded question. all media people for national events will come into under 18's at some point because they are often the familys of drivers! {Comment #656}
They do - but if the media person ignored them and only interviewed 18s-and-overs, then no CRB check would be needed because that's not classed as "contact". Saves someone the best part of £30 and everyone several weeks of waiting.
ok ok, so you're right :P
Right. Night night everyone. :)
oh.. Doesn't work on my iPod :( it's Friday though right?
night alex
Night Alex

I'm off to sleep too, night all xx

night too Lou
Night Lou
That shift didn't last long
Night lou
good that we had this conversation though, clearly i must work on my diction. {Comment #561}
I wish the people who do the medical audio practise exam tapes would - I spent 10 minutes of this evening's class looking for a drug which I thought was called "tripidsnone", only for the teacher to tell me it started with "p"...
how is everyone on this shift? {Comment #614}
I'm fine, thank you. Tonight's audio typing class finally featured a pair of headphones that had the correct adaptor, so I was able to get some practise (just as well, as there are only 3 more lessons before the exam). Since then I've been relaxing.
