Boxing Day is traditional for sitting around, eating leftovers, and watching dodgy Xmas television. If you're near to your computer while all that is going on, then Sidepodcast.com is a brilliant place to hang out. Here are some of the things we've been discussing in the absence of F1 news:

  • Shameless plug: The Sidepodcast Alternate Christmas Message is now available. A special tribute to a departing driver, with a well known story told a different way. It also spurred on the idea that I look like a Flump. Harrumph!
  • We, as podcasters, tend to stick to all things online, and therefore have caused a debate over DVDs and CDs are comparable to mp3s and iTunes. Plus whether we prefer books or a Kindle.
  • The above conversation started with the plethora of iPods given as gifts this Christmas. Let us know what you got, if you haven't already, especially if it will help you listen to Sidepodcast more often!
  • Steven Roy found a DC quiz, so have a go and let us know your score. I got 3, which is pitiful, and I must do more research.

I've given up with the record for the latest posting of a Daily thread, my guess is that at some point this year, the post will go up minutes before the day runs out! Nevertheless, this one gives us plenty of time to chat, so I'll see you in the comments.

I want an iPod Touch with at least 80GB capacity to replace my 5th Gen Video. :(

Don't know how I'll cope if I get an iPhone, will still have to cary both when in car

Afternoon all. Merry, erm, Boxing Day to you all.

In this mp3 row thingy, since I've got a new PSP, I can get an rss feed to play all the pocasts I like. Therfore, I result that the PSP is the best media device out there, you can go on the internet, listen to podcasts, music, television shows, sat nav and it is of course a gaming console with that. Did I mention you can go on Skype?

I got 6 or 7... I did OK with DC's early F1 career (but I forgot he won the British GP twice)

How many did Steven Roy get? ;-)

    Hey everybody,

I hope you're having a great Boxing Day and that any hangovers/bellyaches are manageable ;-)

Here's some F1 News for you:

Drivers hail 'fantastic' Algarve track - I wonder how long it will be before we see an F1 race there?

Montezemolo: KERS introduction a mistake - Well of course he is! Ferrari will be the last to test a KERS System and as far as I know, they have no plans in the near future to implement some kind of KERS/Hybrid System in any of their road cars.

Someone posted a vid of a lap about a week ago and the track is fabulous. I assume they have to try for a race now that testing is so limited that they are unlikely to make any money from that.

  • Jackie26/12/2008 at 18:19

I'm doing an F1 quiz and am completly stumped for the answers to a couple of questions.

Can anyone know the answers to these two? .. I don't really want to wait a week to know the answer.

    1. It "wasn't really racing" in 1985 as car after car ran out of fuel but who won the race?

    2. Who was the only three times winner of the European Grand Prix Championship?

  • Jackie26/12/2008 at 18:21

yeah, sounds like you need all the help you can get!!

Problem is .. I call myself a DC fan and so I'm especially miffed that I got the number of points he got at Red Bull in 2005 wrong

Now if it had been a Frank Montagny quiz I'd have got them all wrong :)

Thanks Jackie. My dad doesn't know since they're both divorced. To be honest, and don't think I'm not being respectful here, I'm not actually sad. Like I said, I never really met him that much, only maybe 3 or 4 times in my life, so it's doesn't really affect me as much as it would like someone close to me dying would.

But thanks for your kind words anyway :)

    2. Who was the only three times winner of the European Grand Prix Championship?

I guess this is the pre-war championship in which case the answer is almost certainly Rudolf Caraciola.

I remember cars struggling on fuel consumption a lot during the mid 80s but a quick look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985_Formula_One_season suggests Imola is probably the answer.

"It also proved costly for Ayrton Senna, who lost victory just four laps from home at Imola when he ran out of fuel. After Prost was disqualified for an underweight McLaren, victory fell to the other Lotus of Elio de Angelis."

It was either that or walk down the M40 on Saturday. I know which I prefer!

Finished watching the F1 '08 season review DVD. It's good. But nothing amazing. Disappointed by the lack of new footage. Ok, there are some (race start problems with Charlie at Instanbul and some conversation between Lewis and his brother at Silverstone) but not enough.

At least they've got rid of that annoying supermarket-esque background music and Ben Edwards feigning excitement as he now commentates in a paste tense.

Correct! All the best footage that didn't make the live-feed on ITV, made it onto F1.com and subsequently this DVD. I wished they had the vision to put all the highlights from the website on the DVD as extras, that would have been cool.

Speaking of extras, one of them is about the return of Ross Brawn to Honda. I had to chuckle listening to his optimism for the team in 2009. :-D

You forgot to mention that there still traces of F1 in it. For Example when it was supposed to be about F1 they got Burt Reynolds to protray Sir Frank Williams, right down to teh wheelchair and dumping his current championship-winning driver.

And try to picture Til Schweiger as some sort of Hollywood bad guy version of Michael Schumacher. Makes you laugh.

    can’t beat 20 though?

    I will use a "Degree of Diffcultly" multipler of 10 and therefore 4 correct * 10 = 40 points. :D .

I got 40 points! Beat your 20 me.

Heads up for all the iPod owners out there - iTunes is giving away 1 song per day for the next 12 days.

    ooo really? yay

  • littlepurplegoth26/12/2008 at 22:11

we just washed one of the towels they gave us this summer. the problem is that it’s ‘bright honda red’ and has to be washed separately.

Do you not have anything black? Or a 30 degree wash? Pretty much nothing runs on a 30 degree wash in a cold fill machine (certainly not if you've rinsed it a few times anyway)

Or am I the only person who is lazy and just washes the 'might run' things in with all the other things that the colour wouldn't show on (or where it wouldn't matter, like, um, most of my wardrobe (redface))?

not that needs washing, and washing something just to fill a hole seems a bit daft.

    what's a 30deg wash?

hehe. the water was very red when i peeked at it, so really can't be washed with anything else.

if i were feeling mean, i'd suggest the colour runs faster than their cars.

    maybe gavin convinced him?

Yeah I read that earlier today... I haven't talked to Loeb lately (or indeed at all, ever ;-) ) but I am concerned that the U-turn is to do with the timing of the statement - perhaps they called him on Christmas Day when he had a little too much 'cheer'? ;-)

OK all, my suitcase is packed, my camera battery is charged and my iTouch is syncing now... off to bed shortly and then I'm off skiing for a week in Austria.

So have a Happy New Year and I'll be sure to toast one to Sidepodcast on New Years' Eve :-)

See you all when I get back,

    Gavin ;-)

Indeed so, have fun, and try not to fall off and embarrass yourself by hurtling down the slope, colliding into other people and getting snow in your face.

    Cheerio Gavin and hny!

Just watched the QI I missed the other day. I love the iplayer.

I loved the joke at the end.

Darth Vader to Luke Skywalker "I know what you are getting for Xmas Luke"

    Luke "You can't know"

Vader "but I do know Luke"

    Luke "How can you know"

Vader "I have felt your presents"

Perform a Google search* for: iTouch

Then another Google search for: "iPod Touch"

*This is the correct term to use instead of google/googling/googled. By the way, Psion seem to have started asserting their rights to the term Netbook. They don't even make them any more...

About "Happy Days" on the Sidepodcast Wiki. it appears that The Cunninghams had three Children in the first two seasons. The Third and older than Richie child was named "Chuck" and he basically was written out of the script as the Fonz grew in popularity. He was supposedly gone to College on a basketball scholarship but he just bascially disappeared.

Now, who was it on the sidepodcast League that was going a decent job in 6th or 7th and just basically dropped of the planet and can this person be "Chuck"?

  • Alianora La Canta27/12/2008 at 21:27

    - sidepod-cast

    - side-podcast {me - 82 comments ago}

Sidepod-cast, presumably, since that way round you have two words coupled together as intended (the name is short for Sidepod Podcast, but the second "pod" was redundant).

  • Alianora La Canta27/12/2008 at 21:32

    It was either that or walk down the M40 on Saturday. I know which I prefer! {Dank - 60 comments ago}

Sorry about you missing out, Dank. Will you still be doing the karting or is that out of the question as well?

I don't like iTunes. For one thing, their site doesn't load properly on my computer. Secondly, their music is for iPods and therefore wouldn't work on my PDA anyway.
