Sakon Yamamoto on the deck

We've been live commenting Santa as he makes his way across the globe, and that doesn't stop now. He's just passed through the UK, and is heading towards the Americas. The chances of there being any real F1 news today is slim, but that doesn't stop us trying!

  • Karthikeyan has been moaning about his association with Force India, or lack of it. To be clear, he wants the world to know that he's not interested in the team and never has been, so whether Mallya wants him there or not, he doesn't care. Good to know, although it seems a harsh reaction to a simple link with a team.
  • Apparently, Domenicali's next stop on the cost-cutting tour is to reconsider Schumi's contract. 2009 will go ahead as planned, but then there will be some serious cost/benefit analysis to be done for 2010.
  • Mosley has said that he still doesn't intend to continue as president of the FIA next year, although his final decision will be made in June. He has mentioned that it will be hard to find someone to fill his shoes. But will it though?

As mentioned above, there's little in the way of F1 news, so feel free to share what you are doing with your day, whether you are celebrating, what presents you get, all of the above. We'll be around most of the day (unless we're sleeping) and I'll see you in the comments.

Merry Christmas to all in Sidepodtown!

    Go Santa!

He's gone from Dundee to Iceland and now back to Shannon, Ireland.

It seems there's a lot of time to kill until the Americas get round to midnight.

He needs to get one of them time/motion studies.

Im looking forward to hearing what everybody in the UK gets for Christmas when you get to open them in a few hours.

I was very lucky as usual:

Armani Attitude gift pack with after shave etc.

    I Can Has Cheeseburger? Book

Macadamia fudge and Assorted Desert Chocolates

    World Monopoly

I was lucky enough to have a cup of tea with Peter at that same event.

damn you being awake already ;)

  • littlepurplegoth25/12/2008 at 00:39

Is this the point where I confess that I haven't even wrapped anything yet?

(I'm thinking that that might happen about 30 seconds before said presents get handed over... although we do now have a decoration, courtesy of DD2, some paper, some sellotape, and a lot of little tiny pieces that had to be vaccumned out of her bed earlier.... )

  • Andy Taylor25/12/2008 at 00:40

Jeremy is eleven hours or so ahead of us though, so it's not unusual.

the question is, would anyone mind if they weren't wrapped at all?

iTunes vouchers inside xmas cards work really well

I am a) not letting the one with an iPod loose on iTunes, b) not running the risk that she would show her brother how (more of a worry) and c) will leave the purchase of that sort of thing up to Andy anyway, not that there is any benefit to having him do it :-*

the question is, would anyone mind if they weren’t wrapped at all?

I tried that last year... and there were complaints! Plus they got down the stockings twice as fast and I was therefore rudely awakened some hours before I wanted to be!

  • Steven Roy25/12/2008 at 00:46

He’s gone from Dundee to Iceland and now back to Shannon, Ireland.

I think it an Irish political/religious situation. Can't do the north and south straight after each other. There has to be a respectable gap.

  • Jeremy25/12/2008 at 00:48

My girlfriends brother got an XBOX 360 for xmas and it came with Kung Fu Panda game. We are playing it right now.

That sets a record even for them!

Ah.. I did do foil one year when we ran out of paper... It wasn't a success as I then cut my hand opening one of them again...

Although that wasn't as bad as the year that DD1 fell down the stairs and split her head open - just after Andy had left to do his radio show - and I had to phone for an ambulance. And we then spent 4 1/2 hours in A&E only for DD1 to get a dab of superglue (but only after I said I was taking her home because she was obviously fine).

Actually I lied... its nicer than Calvados, being Somerset Apple Brandy in actuality. But less 'grand' than Calvados in that sense (and about a third of the price of a decent one, but as I said, rather nicer :-) Plus, coming from a place about 5 miles from my parents house, and being made in the same place that the Downs monestary lot are using to make their apple brandy as well :-) )

And there is a motorsport link - the chap who makes it got his seed funding from a Mr E. Jordan :-)

Ah so, F1/Motorsport links to Alcohol producers (of the safe for consumpsion sort, I can't say 'drinkable' because for some things that's debatable...)

Does that make a suitable 'game' for not quite 2am on Christmas Day?

Oh yes - lots of Moet et Chandon all over the place :-)

(they've got a really nice tour of their cave - very cheap, with a little train to take you round and you get a glass of a decent vintage at the end... Mercier do a tour as well, ditto on the glass and you get some to try from the age of 14 there (counts as a 'private event' apparently )

Hmmm strangely enough it was that summer that I first heard Queen and knew who they were... being 1985 and stuck in france for a month I listened to Live Aid on the radio with the teenager from the tent next door. Which also means that I was 13 when my parents took me around the Eperney caves...

The tours are in English now at both those Cave if you request an english speaking version. But then they were in French only... my french improved a *lot* that summer....

  • me25/12/2008 at 01:46

  • littlepurplegoth25/12/2008 at 01:49

Lol - forgotten most of it now... except strangely when once got drunk in a bar and forget that I'd forgotten... apparently I had a scandulous conversation with someone, but I don't remember much... did the same thing in dutch once as well (I don't believe that, but I was told I did so....shrugs)

Seriously though - Eperney is pretty close to Paris so if you find a desire to drive past the FIA again, you could just ignore it and go wallow in Champagne instead :0

  • me25/12/2008 at 01:51

Seriously though - Eperney is pretty close to Paris so if you find a desire to drive past the FIA again, you could just ignore it and go wallow in Champagne instead :0

ha. there's every chance we could end up there without knowing how we did so, or how to get back :)

  • littlepurplegoth25/12/2008 at 01:55

Oh apparently its twinned with Clevedon, Middlekirk (belgium), and Ettlingen (germany)

You could of course go if you were on your way to the French GP, or on your way back from LeMans (assuming that you were going Dover/Calais to LeMans rather than the slightly more sensible portmouth-Saint Malo...)

  • littlepurplegoth25/12/2008 at 01:58

ha. there’s every chance we could end up there without knowing how we did so, or how to get back

Well, you take the E15 south from calais and then keep going south instead of staying on it to Paris....

(yes, I'm googlemapping, my memory isn't that good, lol.)

Although personally I'd take the train in and out of Paris again as the station in Eperney is about a 15 min walk from the Avenue de Champagne... (its a *long* road though)

Although it does occur to me that this is one town that is almost certain to be found fairly easily through the medium of GPS

  • me25/12/2008 at 01:59

  • littlepurplegoth25/12/2008 at 02:01

you’re optimistic about the french gp aren’t you?

    Should I not be?

Besides, there is a Mitford owned Chateau near Magny-Cours and I can't see Max passing up the use of something he undoubtably has a(n inherited) share in...

And as I said, its sort-of on the way to/from Le Mans as well (lovely race track, grotty 60s town... place was where the school 'took' us on the French Exchange, which was responsible for my love of motor racing even though I am ridiculously everything it is not in RL...lol)

  • me25/12/2008 at 02:02

    Should I not be?

well, it's not on bernie's calendar for 2009, and lord knows if / when / where it'll return.

  • littlepurplegoth25/12/2008 at 02:07

Phswah! Silly, short man! (heck *I'm* apparently taller than him, which is saying something really!).

Its one of those things that I think the French Govt. will be prevailed upon to bid for again... after all, why have one of your biggest export markets associated with something that you don't even host, if only 'occasionally'?

Anyhow... I'm just trying to write excuses as to why everyone should visit the caves at least once....

  • me25/12/2008 at 02:09

Not quite. We do not want temperature to reach the point where the melted ice to freezes over again as the streets and sidewalks would make the best outdoor skating rink the world has ever seen. Too bad that everyone will be driving to peoples' families on Christmas Day....

Happy Christmas to all in Sidepodland :-)

Hope Santa has made it to your house and left you something nice. Have a great day.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)25/12/2008 at 08:54

    Dear all in Sidepodland,

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I hope you all have a smashing day - I have already had one christmas last night as per Danish tradition. We ate roast duck, then we ate a rice pudding - with a twist. The thing is, the rice pudding has *one* whole almond in it and you have to try and find it (without eating it) to win a prize. It's also more fun if the person who finds it tries to hide it so everyone else keeps looking for it - this year I found it but my wife rumbled me and the game was up ;-)

After dinner, we sang christmas carols while holding hands and walking around the christmas tree. I had to print the words off as I haven't learnt them in Danish yet, but it turns out they kept taking them off me to see what the words were anyway :-)

Finally we all got our presents (this is also the point that Santa arrives too)... I did get some motorsports-themed presents - I got a nice Ferrari book, a Le Mans T-shirt and Mario Kart Wii amongst other things :-D

So it was a lovely evening full of food, drink and fun. Today we go to another family dinner starting in about an hour where we eat and drink all day, so I'm going to be very 'Merry' by the end of today :-D

So, Glædelig Jul og godt nytår til alle i Sidepodland!

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)25/12/2008 at 08:56

Mods, my comment has been moderated for some reason :-( Please could you bring it from the sleigh, down the chimney and put it under the Christmas tree?

    Else, MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!!

Dank, that present for the inlaws looks hilarious.

I've had 25 relatives, 25 degrees (Celsius) and sunshine including two mini-humans and a smallish house. The day has gone well, but I'm going to watch some DVDs and hope that you all make the most of the afternoon and remember it's not the thought that counts, it's the price you can get for it on ebay tomorrow.

    feel free to share what you are doing with your day, whether you are celebrating, what presents you get, all of the above. {Christine - original entry}

I finished wrapping presents at 7:fifty (ended up resorting to using a carrier bag for Mum's present because the house ran out of wrapping paper). Then I had breakfast and read an old F1 Magazine until Dad woke up (household tradition requires all presents to be opened with witnesses and after everyone's eaten something).

    I got:

    - three books (as well as the Beedle the Bard and Brinsingr books predicted yesterday, I got Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell)

    - two tops for work

    - one pair of trousers for work

    - one pair of pyjamas

    - one box of wildlife brooches in a lunchbox

    - one box of Celebrations chocolates.

There was nothing F1-related, though I did give my nephew-in-law an F1 encylopaedia as his Christmas present.

After that I spent the morning reading Outliers in between stacking wood for the fire. Lunch was great, then I watched the Two Ronnies and the first half of Top of the Pops (I stopped watching when Dizzee Rascal came on).

After I update my blog and do some commenting, I'm basically going to spend the rest of the day watching BBC1...

  • Alianora La Canta25/12/2008 at 14:52

    And there is a motorsport link - the chap who makes it got his seed funding from a Mr E. Jordan {littlepurplegoth}

Cool! Though as a teetotaller, it's still not enough to persuade me to try any...

I just want to wish everyone in Sidepodland a Merry Christmas and I hope Santa was good to you this year. I hope he brings something off my list, but for some reason I don’t think he has a brewery at the North Pole. Well off to get a Speckled Hen before bed, 2 hours to go and an early day tomorrow I hope we don’t have to dig any more snow 2? so far, night all and a very Merry Christmas.

Well, he does seem to have access to the liquor cabinet at the Officers Club in CFB Alert, with is North of the North Magnetic Pole, However the Officers think that it is the Ministry of the Environment people (would we share Alert with)trying to pull a fast one over us...

    Hmm lets see:

    Free ones:

    - Facebook

    - Tap Tap Revenge

    - Touch Hockey FS5

    - Google Earth

    - Remote

    - Units

    - Free Translator

    - Free Word Warp

    Paid ones:

    - Real Football 09

    - Pole Position Remix

    - Enigmo

    - Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart

I would suggest you have fun trying out all the free ones first - especially those that make use of the accelerometer and touch screen. There are cool ones like Dice, Golf swings, Ten pin bowling and a Lightsaber app which do this and they're all free. There's a lot of free puzzle games or try-before-you-buy apps.

Finally, get WiFi in your house if you don't already have it as some of the apps that use the net are really awesome!

Have fun with your new toys guys ;-)

As of 13:00 EST, My Christmas Presents seem to consist of:

    - a four pack of a Chocolate Vodka drink called "Mudshake".

    - an assorted 6 pick of various flaovours of a Hot Chocolate drink mix.

    - an assorted 6 pack of half-litre beers with the pick of the lot being Stella Antois, and an F1 connection with Arrow's old sponour Warsteiner

-A Tomtom Automobile GPS system (WTF - I have not gotten lost driving yet).

    - An Eddie Bauer Slate Grey freece Pullever

    - The Pride of Place goes to a FujiFilm S1000fd digital camera that I am trying to figure out how to use it.

  • me25/12/2008 at 22:05

quick, i have one hour whilst christine is engrossed in dr who, to get away with this:

    http://sidepodcast.wetpaint.com/page/Christine

irrefutable evidence, that christine, is in fact... a flump!

    :D

  • R.G (Blessed by thee Saint Nicholas Heidfeld)25/12/2008 at 22:10

irrefutable evidence, that christine, is in fact… a flump!

I've print screend that. And I'll put it on dropio, unless, you agree to think of a decent formula 1 driver as confectionary.

    I love blackmail

  • R.G (Blessed by thee Saint Nicholas Heidfeld)25/12/2008 at 22:11

Actually I don't need to use blackmail, the picture will in the gallery already and cannot be deleted.

    Mwahahaha :D

  • me25/12/2008 at 22:12

Actually I don’t need to use blackmail, the picture will in the gallery already and cannot be deleted.

    what??

  • R.G (Blessed by thee Saint Nicholas Heidfeld)25/12/2008 at 22:12

    what??

You've added both pictures onto the server and now cannot be deleted.

Or as I like to call it, your in deeeeep trouble

  • me25/12/2008 at 22:13

Or as I like to call it, your in deeeeep trouble

    i had no idea!

  • R.G (Blessed by thee Saint Nicholas Heidfeld)25/12/2008 at 22:14

Another pointless piece of trivia for ya's, about 83% of the NASCAR grid in the Talladega race in 2007 was actually related someway or another...

  • lou25/12/2008 at 22:14

Actually I don’t need to use blackmail, the picture will in the gallery already and cannot be deleted.

are they not 2 separate pictures?

  • R.G (Blessed by thee Saint Nicholas Heidfeld)25/12/2008 at 22:15

are they not 2 separate pictures?

Shhh, but put two and two together, and the fact he's named Christine, 'Pootle' might give it away.

  • Spikey25/12/2008 at 22:15

oh my god thats so funny!

anyone see the lookylikeys in private eye? I wonder if there should be a section in sidepodcast like that - you know.......Christine & a Flump, DC & Glenn Quagmire, Ron Dennis * the android mentioned earlier, Alain Prost and a crane, etc.....

  • lou25/12/2008 at 22:16

irrefutable evidence, that christine, is in fact… a flump!

    What's a flump?

  • me25/12/2008 at 22:16

    What’s a flump?

type it into itunes and see what you get. i bought the tv series on there recently. looks lovely on an itouch screen :)

  • me25/12/2008 at 22:18

I wonder if there should be a section in sidepodcast like that - you know…….Christine & a Flump, DC & Glenn Quagmire, Ron Dennis * the android mentioned earlier, Alain Prost and a crane, etc…..

if we made one on the wiki, it might get me out of a bit of trouble,

  • Spikey25/12/2008 at 22:18

I dont know whats sadder. Mr C doing this, or RG knowing that the flumps name is "Pootle" (I looked it up - that's the wonder of the internet)

  • R.G (Blessed by thee Saint Nicholas Heidfeld)25/12/2008 at 22:19

I don't know what the flumps are, but he's called the picture itself, Pootle.

    Look

  • me25/12/2008 at 22:21

that's a rookie error, right there.

  • Spikey25/12/2008 at 22:22

    hahahahahahahaaaaaaaa

  • Andy Taylor25/12/2008 at 22:27

type it into itunes and see what you get. i bought the tv series on there recently. looks lovely on an itouch screen

    It's iPod Touch. :-|

  • me25/12/2008 at 22:30

    It’s iPod Touch.

only to the marketing peeps, keen to ram home the ipod brand. apple are kings of telling it like it is:

    - mail

    - ical

    - ichat

with the ipod touch they've gone all microsoft. next year, it'll be the ipod touch 2009 enterprise edition.

    itouch.

  • Andy Taylor25/12/2008 at 22:31

that’s a rookie error, right there.

The rookie error is not realising that you can't delete pictures from the Wiki. I think that Ferrari Lego set might just get purchased after all :)

  • me25/12/2008 at 22:31

What I like is the Archos.

    No stupid 'i' business there.

  • R.G (Blessed by thee Saint Nicholas Heidfeld)25/12/2008 at 22:34

    And also, isn't is easier

    shuffle

    nano

    pod

    touch

    easy off the tounge

  • me25/12/2008 at 22:34

What I like is the Archos.

the archos has merits too. i found the software used to sync it bloody shoddy though. needs more investment methinks.

  • Spikey25/12/2008 at 22:35

hmmm all this techno babble has lost me. I still love my minidisc because it sounds great, still works and if the disc goes all funny, I put another one in!

and lets face it - whats the point of having 5 days of music when the battery only lasts 8 hours lol

  • Andy Taylor25/12/2008 at 22:35

I have a cunning plan - Blackadder programme is about to start on BBC1 :)

  • me25/12/2008 at 22:35

    And also, isn’t is easier

    ooh. interesting.

(if it aint broke, dont fix it, etc.......)

  • me25/12/2008 at 22:36

and lets face it - whats the point of having 5 days of music when the battery only lasts 8 hours lol

the first mp3 player i ever bought lasted 12 hours but held just 12 songs. they got tiresome after the ninth listen :)

i prefer it this way around.

  • Spikey25/12/2008 at 22:36

    blackadder? where? when?

  • lou25/12/2008 at 22:37

  • Andy Taylor25/12/2008 at 22:39

    much cleaner

    Please stop. No, really.

The thing I can't get over is that the iPod Touch is being marketed as The Funnest iPod ever

I can't read anything other than funniest...

  • Spikey25/12/2008 at 22:39

oh my. people think I am weird because I prefer the FIRST Black Adder. (apart from the last of the fourth series. that was great, yet sad.)

  • littlepurplegoth25/12/2008 at 22:39

And Lou - thanks for reminding me that I have Cassis somewhere in the house (mind you we have sozzled damsons, in vodka, somewhere in the house as well but they've been missing (presumed somewhere in the gargage) since we last moved...

I love the Flumps... must find the video we have somewhere, and plug in the video tape machine, and subject the children to it (big evil grin)

  • me25/12/2008 at 22:39

    the what?

    http://www.archos.com/products/imt/archos_5/index.html?country=global&lang=en

  • Andy Taylor25/12/2008 at 22:40

  • Spikey25/12/2008 at 22:44

  • me25/12/2008 at 22:44

ooooo that looks nice. i prefer my ipod touch though

if it wasn't for the touch, i may own one now :)

  • me25/12/2008 at 22:46

Yeah, but you know that slot on the front of your Mac?

  • Steven Roy25/12/2008 at 23:31

oh poo - Stanley Baxter too?

I guess that is another great source of comedy Christine has never heard of

  • Christine25/12/2008 at 23:31

Yeah, but you know that slot on the front of your Mac?

  • Spikey25/12/2008 at 23:32

    YES! thanks Andy......

Christine - a dvd is what you put in your Mac and rip the video onto your Ipod / touch / feel / whatever it is called to watch later :)

  • Steven Roy25/12/2008 at 23:38

    No wonder Zavvi’s gone under….

And to think Richard Branson sold it last year for all that money. I guess that is why he is a billionaire and the people who bought it are not.

  • Christine25/12/2008 at 23:38

I feel its a tad harsh blaming Zavvi on christine

I've not been in a Zavvi... so if that makes it my fault, I can take that blame. Using that concept, I can also take the blame for Whittards.

  • Christine25/12/2008 at 23:38

I’ve not been in a Zavvi… so if that makes it my fault, I can take that blame. Using that concept, I can also take the blame for Whittards.

Having said that, I'm sure it must be Steven Roy's fault somehow.

So this isn't the point where Andy and I think about disclosing how many CDs, DVDs, VCR tapes, cassettes, reels of 1/4" and 1/2" tape etc etc we have around the place (although most of the tape-based mediums are currently in archive^W boxes.

And that's before you even think of starting on the number of books... (also still mostly in boxes because the shelves aren't up yet, which makes it hard to find things when I want them (oops) and leads to purchases of new books (oops, although quite often from the library currently at 50p a time :-) ), plus those of mine that are still at my parents...)

  • Christine25/12/2008 at 23:47

And that’s before you even think of starting on the number of books…

Books we have, but only because you can't get the Kindle in the UK.

  • Andy Taylor25/12/2008 at 23:49

So this isn’t the point where Andy and I think about disclosing how many CDs, DVDs, VCR tapes, cassettes, reels of 1/4? and 1/2? tape etc etc we have around the place (although most of the tape-based mediums are currently in archive^W boxes.

The answer is lots. Almost all the CDs are ripped to iTunes though.

  • Spikey25/12/2008 at 23:50

HAHAHAHA its a LONG time since I was 23, Ta!

dont feel bad, lpg. I still have piles of videos, books, cassettes, etc.............

the first walkman. stuff of legends :)

  • me25/12/2008 at 23:53

the first walkman. stuff of legends

memorex. is it live, or is it... erm, nope, definitely tape.

  • littlepurplegoth25/12/2008 at 23:55

Books we have, but only because you can’t get the Kindle in the UK.

Ah.. well I'd quite like one of those (or the Sony one :-) )... except that the vast majority of books I own are never likely to appear on it (or indeed on any eformat) anyway. Living near Cambridge for nine months with money in the bank (between owning houses) was fatal as Cambridge University press is a) full of interesting books on subjects esoteric and otherwise and b) regularly had sales of things that they 'found in corners in the warehouse'. We ended up with a lot of educational stuff for the children from there as well (good ed. books, not Nat.Curr. 'reference' ones).

And then there was Hatchers around the corner where I discovered Make and Craft magazines... (books really, from O'Reilly press, and full of interesting projects suitable for the truely geeky and/or eccentric)

And I haven't even started on the second hand book shops, or the buy and share shelves at the Methodist Church... (a goldmine at 20p a time)...

MK is a book wasteland by comparisson. Which is just as well now we are 'skint' again...

  • Spikey25/12/2008 at 23:55

    lol

Maxell - break the sound barrier......

Pete Murphy. THERE's a legend. I bet only LPG remembers him :)

  • Alianora La Canta25/12/2008 at 23:57

and lets face it - whats the point of having 5 days of music when the battery only lasts 8 hours lol

I like my PDA's balance - with the storage card in, it will take 2 hours of video, about 4 hours of music and still only be a quarter full. The battery lasts about 3 days if I push the unit to its limits or 8 days if I don't.

  • Andy Taylor25/12/2008 at 23:58

and lets face it - whats the point of having 5 days of music when the battery only lasts 8 hours lol

My iPod lasts for ages between charges. It's not an iPod Touch though.

  • Spikey25/12/2008 at 23:58

PDA's are good. I still have an old Palm T2 somewhere.......

  • me25/12/2008 at 23:58

(or are you just *really* good with google?

    erk!

  • Spikey26/12/2008 at 00:04

talking about Pete Murphy......he made a GREAT album with Mick Karn. - Dalis Car or something like that. was good-ish, but was SLATED because I think he was nearly happy!

you arent Pete if you arent miserable, apparently (at the time)

  • Spikey26/12/2008 at 00:06

noooooo I just was a gothy type in my youth........

Even so, it's worth a try. You should get more time than that

  • me26/12/2008 at 00:11

ok. i give it a go.

it happens to the best of us. Eldritch wore a flowery shirt. once. for a bet I think.

  • littlepurplegoth26/12/2008 at 00:15

    or get their hair cut.

Ah - that would be the *male* ones...

Mine is still past my shoulderblades :-P

Its very hard to keep reading about iPod Touch s - I love my little (black) gen3 nano (its sooo nice and fits in the palm of my hand and doesn't seem to need charging much at all)... but its getting more and more tempting and difficult to 'resist'...

    Wah!

  • Spikey26/12/2008 at 00:18

resist! retro is also good :)

  • Steven Roy26/12/2008 at 00:20

HIGNFY is on again. Bush now. Max and Mika soon

  • littlepurplegoth26/12/2008 at 00:24

That was the 'other' issue about living near Cambridge... its very easy to dress goth cos you don't stand out (at all!) and I got back into the habit (properly, I don't think I've worn non-black or non-'jewel' colours more than maybe 300 times in the last 20 years, erk)... and then there was the goth Euch. to go to where you needed to dress 'properly' (incense, book of common prayer, suitably door themes and a lot of great music, ancient and modern) followed by The calling (which I've never made it to, cos I've always gone home to the children rofl)... and then there is my 'boot' habit :-)

(and serious boots are great for driving in when you are short! see I can at least make it about cars!)

  • Spikey26/12/2008 at 00:24

HAHAHAHAH I hadnt seen the Mika clip before! CLASS!

  • me26/12/2008 at 00:25

so, ipod restore. do i choose:

    - set up new

    - restore backup

    ?

  • Jon Waldock26/12/2008 at 00:26

i've got a £15 itunes voucher....i need new music in my life. your allowed 2 tell me songs each :P

I had a fantastic cavalry jacket that some ****** nicked from a party. *******!

  • littlepurplegoth26/12/2008 at 00:27

    Only two!

Um - how old are you, and what sort of thing do you listen to already?

  • Jon Waldock26/12/2008 at 00:27

  • Andy Taylor26/12/2008 at 00:28

    - set up new

    - restore backup

Restore backup to get your settings, Restore new to set up as a new device.

  • me26/12/2008 at 00:28

Restore backup to get your settings, Restore new to set up as a new device.

but will either affect battery life. e.g, if i chose 'backup' will i have just wasted my time?

  • Spikey26/12/2008 at 00:29

Jon. - songs - hmph...........I think me and LPG should have an agreement here........

but will either affect battery life. e.g, if i chose ‘backup’ will i have just wasted my time?

Perhaps, it's not an exact science. The alternative is to do a Restore as new and then reload the Apps you actually use, but you will lose the app settings and data too. Your choice.

  • Spikey26/12/2008 at 00:34

hmmmm just who is THAT woman?

I'm going to assume that you have current stuff then :-) (like a recent download of the Jeff Buckley Hallelujah, Killers 'Human' and things like that).

Try Sadeness (part 1)' Enigma, and 'Weep you no more still fountains' Sting/Edin Karamozov

There are other things I want to sugges though, but some of it isn't on iTunes :-( You could have a try at 'fat and frantic' though, cos they are :0

  • Jon Waldock26/12/2008 at 01:04

i think its time to take the hint when your parents give you a shaver for christmas.....

if you download Hallelujah, try Leonard Cohen or John Cale.

Well yes... but break them in gently and *then* shwock them with the 20 minute versions!!

The Medaeval babes is worth a listen (but don't appear to be on iPlayer, but they are mainly a live act anyway). There is an 'old' Greenbelt band called 'Eve and the Garden' who are wonderful if you can find any of their stuff online, ditto a group called 'Why?' who are just bouncy bouncy folk-stuff. Larry Norman is always worth a punt, as is Jonny Cash.

The now defunct Chagall Guevara are good (and on from that, all sorts of things that featured Mark Heard).

Oh - 'Butterfly on a wheel' The Mission (although I find that it seques scarily well into the French and Saunders theme music, lol, which mithers it somewhat rofl), 'Dominion/Mother Russia' Sisters Of Mercy, All sorts of things by Nightwish, HIM, and similar stuff... the album 'UFOrb' The Orb (lol)...

  • lou26/12/2008 at 01:33

According to the Sidepodcast wiki, "THAT woman" is the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls. She's also done a solo album.

I got 6/10 on the DC quiz (without looking anything up - apart from Q10 which I guessed wrongly, I think I have books containing the answers to all the quiz questions).

    I need to read more.
