The fruits of our labours at the Sidepodparty are beginning to come together, as the final Debrief of 2008 has been released on the site. There's a special Christmas carol-shaped treat for anyone listening to the end of the show. Don't forget the brilliant out-take as well.
- With the success of a Formula 1 themed Christmas Carol under our belts, the big question is, what song shall we
murderattempt next year? - Toyota announced their forecast of the first ever operating loss this financial year. Then they spoke out again to say they are definitely committed to F1 and not going anywhere. How many times do they have to say it before we believe them though?
- Max Mosley (drink!) has been speaking to F1.com and admits that they knew about Honda's withdrawal four days before it was announced. Firstly, how amazing that something was able to be kept a secret in this day and age. Secondly, it proves that the cost-cutting announcements really were timed to perfection, and it wasn't just a coincidence.
That's it for today. I've now beaten the record for the latest opening of a Daily thread, but I expect to see just as many comments as on previous days. We'll be in there, chatting away, why not come and join us?
there's still time to squeeze in auld lang sine this year ;)
Oh Lord, noooo! :D
I was going to attempt to change the lyrics to be F1 related, but I've just realised I don't actually understand what they mean!
Bad news for Trulli
"Toyota has dismissed reports that Jarno Trulli could be replaced before the start of the 2009 season" and "team president John Howett told The Times: "We have a contract with Jarno in place.""
No word if anyone added "No, really" to their statements
How's that bad news for Jarno?
Persistent message that all is fine often seems to end up in the opposite, plus they seem to trying to convince us.
Maybe I'm just being cynical
I reckon both Toyota and Trulli have one season left in them. Don't think they'll go bye-bye just yet.
Just one more year of Trulli Train comments, oh noes!
F1 wouldn't be the same without the Trulliometer.
What would we do of a sunday afternoon when the race is dull and boring and all we have is to occationally shout "TRULLI TRAIN" or "BARICHELLO BUS" for that matter.
Is there a Max Mosley drinking game? I seem to have missed that one :-(
By the way, I have just seen a report that Max has advised people to "think carefully before applying for the job as FIA President" and that he will wait until June before deciding whether to step down from the job.
I hope when he had that vote of no-confidence it wasn't contingent on him stepping down in 2009... :-(
Is F1 minute for Dec 22nd supposed to be in iTunes?
Is not for me :(
It was the debrief show/Sidepodparty
Not the F1 minute reference :D
Bourdais says he's 50/50 whether he'll get the Toro Rosso drive in '09
So... what's the question? :)
Episode 87 isn't available in iTunes yet, because we didn't have time to make the enhanced version. Pesky sleep got in the way again.
Mp3 is available on this site and on drop.io, and I will update the feeds as soon as is humanly possible.
Should yesterday's F1 minute be in iTunes?
Am happy waiting for Ep 87
Just wasn't sure if my iTunes was updating podcasts, there are a few that are late for me, seasonal pressures maybe :)
Aaaaah, rubbish. It should be in there, but it looks like I've called the file the 19th again.
http://www.f1minute.com/2008/12/19/19-dec-08-mclaren-forsee-end-to-legal-proceedings/
http://www.f1minute.com/2008/12/22/19-dec-08-toyota-forecast-record-loss-for-0809/
Spot the mistake!
I have two Dec 19th podcasts?
A ha!
As do I, one of which was released on the 20th
Drink!
:D
Lol.
Maybe you've just spent too much time around the various western govt. whose Idea of Confidence in a person/thing *always* means that they are about to be sacked /h sorry 'resign to spend more time with their children/on their constituency/go and do a EC job instead', fall over with a big completely predictable hole in their finances, or any number of 'disasters' that are then seized upon by tabloid sections of the media and blown up into an even worse situation... hence allowing said govt. to bury anything really important under the avalance of coverage....
Gianfranco Fantuzzi confirmed as new team manager at Toro Rosso. No confirmation on their driver line-up yet though.
Oh F1 Minute, haven't listened to that in a while...
Just been reading the Sidepodcast Wiki and something interested me. How does one find their first comment on Sidepodcast?
christine looks them up in the database, for anyone who creates themselves a wiki page.
How long does that take her?
depends how often people change their name. r.g's would probably take the best part of a day.
however, dank's is pretty easy:
http://sidepodcast.wetpaint.com/page/Dank
Haha, actually not a probem, since my first name was 'Gaulty', without any of these bracket malarky going on.
Quality, not quantity eh? ;-)
Eee, that comment takes me back so it does!
I thought you would have run a combination search based on the person's E-mail address.... Even if they used two or three or four E-mail addresses, the earilest date is still the one to use.
Your first pass is to match up the E-mail address to the names, then to find the earilest date for each E-mail address.
Even if a person uses two three or four differnt E-mails, looking at the earilest date of four diffent E-mail address is a hell of a lot easier than going thru a database like a Data Entry Clerk....
i just read my reply, it seems a bit mean in hindsight. it were your first comment and there i was using bold already!
I search based on username and email and see which is the earliest. It doesn't take that long.
I'm no secretary.
Should be honoured really. Punctuation is usually asking a lot, let alone formatting as well. :)
hehe that would be fun :)
just use the tune, and then put like a summary of the season to it or something :P
did you not learn from 'me' and his mistake? :P
oh dear another comment into moderation, this is becoming a bit of a habit ;)
You sure that was my first comment? Sure I must have uttered some further tripe on here before Jan 08?
Typical. We have to speak English and thye don't make the slightest effort.
for the name dank, and for the email address you're currently using, yes.
can have a look for more though.
Interesting that he thinks there is no problem saying that he will wait until June when he said categorically that he would not stand during the vote of confidence. What a liar.
I wouldn't bother if it's too much hassle. Just surprised me that it took me 6+ months to comment on here!
:)
any idea where you found us?
I wish, and my excuse was going to be I didn't have enough time...
Yup, Christine (or you disguised as her) posted a video on the Red Bull Racing group of Facebook. Then stumbled upon this as a result. So would have been from August 07 onwards I guess.
that doesn't wash either ;)
ah-ha, yeah that might have been me.
i love that video. mostly coz it has planes in it :)
Just working my way through the posts one-by-one from that point on. Interesting to see how few comments were made in those days! Things certainly have exploded since.

Took me more than a year!
Part lazy, part forgetful.
Has anyone seen - http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/chrischarles/2008/12/alternative_christmas_song.html
...
In all of two minutes......
i for one cannot wait for the bbc's coverage to start next year!!!
Somehow I think that the only place Hamilton would have ended up in a Renault is lapped by Webber and rammed by Coulthard.
Updates my my mad plot, it features a well loved and well known song.
Looking through these past posts, does anyone know what happened to someone called 'FT'? His comments were EPIC! :-D
I prefer this from the comments:
:D :D
not a clue. maybe he got rsi?
Maybe nobody said hi ;)
First post with large no. of comments: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2007/10/02/you-decide/ (Webber/Vettel Fuji crash)
Wow, 60 is scarily high
i remember it well.
i'm trying to put a link space between each paragraph on my wetpaint page but i cant get it to work, i've tried pushing return, pushing return then space a few times, but i cnat work it.
any ideas?
What's a link space?
I've just added your first comment to the page, so can probably help.
I got to November 07 and couldn't find any comments by myself so I'll believe you about the timing of my first comment!
I reckon we should go on a reconnaissance mission and find out what some of the people are up to who have seemingly left Sidepodcast.
For example, a name that kept popping up was 'brendan stallard' his website is http://www.uncommon.us/main.php - I might see what he's up to. A nuisance? Me?!!
That was me, not "me".
wow, my first comment really was rubbish lol
You need to be in easy edit mode and hit the return key twice to make line spaces, Jon.
Option "B" is for you to threaten your computer to go HULK on it if it does not behave. I am sure that everyone can help Jon out by naming Toro Rosso's secret weapon....
ahhh, yes, brendan.
he had 'issues', because for some reason he thought we were journalists who should be unbiased. whereas we maintain we have open and public agendas, that we're proud of (i can't stand schumi, christine fancies bourdais, etc).
if you find him, do say "hi" from us though ;)
What's up peeps, I is back on the Internet and finally all moved in proper like :D
Hello stranger! Welcome back :)
It's so go to be :D
hey ya :) hope the move went well :)
Hey lou, it went a bit easier than expected :)
I mean good to be :P
LOL, I'm listening to the Sidepoddie Awards and I see you did me as Bad Week :D Love it.
I am a moderator on a forum and we recently sent out e-mails to all registered members. One guy posted a comment saying that his computer had crashed and he had lost all his bookmarks and couldn't find the site. It is amazing the reasons people disappear.
You missed a good party
Wow. It's like Google never existed or something!
The legendary Timo Glock,
didn't change his tires and began to rock,
and out of know where Lewis went a through ya
Went a through ya, went a through ya
went a through ya, went a through ya
Yeah it seems like it. Still, nothing I can do when the Internet wouldn't be coming on until today.
Hey Scott, you missed me on screen at the party.
He had only just found the site before his computer crashed and he couldn't remember the name.
Evenin' All...
Something really strange seems to have happened to the tab order in the honest to goodness normal comments bit by the way.
it has, and you know what? i didn't touch nothing. am hoping i can leave it until the redesign comes along. keep it under your hat :)
Okay, for some peculiar reason my cursor ain't moving.
@Me on the F1 Minute thingy - Yeah I know, need a good excuse, how about, F1 Minute stopped working on iTunes?
@Scotty - Welcome back sir.
@The Missing People - Why would they want to leave, oh wait...
I honestly don't know what you're talking about... tab-order-whats-that-now etc?
I shall go back to one of the enhanced versions and pretend this whole thing never happened ;)
I am loving my bedroom right now. It's bigger than my old one and I got my mum's bed which is 5ft, whereas her new one is only 4ft 6in. So I have a bigger bed than mum and I love it :D
your bed is only 5ft?!?! i'm 6'3, i dont think i would be able to cope with that lol
Xmas racing game
http://www.reindeerracer.com/
@Scottys bedroom - I'm small and thats still small.
As in too small for me
yay!
lol if you have time i'd give the recording a listen :P sooooo funny :)
sidepodcast league:
http://www.reindeerracer.co.uk/game/nnnLaSeT
no idea what that means tho.
Oh wait, that might be 6ft. My mistake :P
It works
I think 5 ft is the width
genius.
that'll save some screenshots.
woot :D
Yeah I think you're right. Sorry, I'm confused about it all :P
I may need a mouse....
Cursor issue solved, game played
This game is more fiendish than a Rubik's Cube!
i am sloooooow.
I am slooooow but faster than me :)
I'm LMFAO at "The 12 F1 Days of Christmas" :D
haha ok, oops!
That's an understatement. :P
Yes Dom, I think it is :D
I love the fact that Me seems to choke in hysterics every time everyone does the last bit :D
It was too funny.
ah damn i found the wrong kinda mouse... why does the cat always wait till i'm home alone before catching and bringing inside a mouse.
AHHH, I hate that complex at the top
i don't have enough travel.
We can be useless together
That's why you need the sidepodtour!
Scrap that
Lou is gaining!
i found a mouse :P
How can you get 11 secs, Im at 8 when I get to the complex
Dang, doing so well then I crashed
just got distracted and crashed before i got to the first corner lol
Why are there 2 Stevens?
GAH, got to the last corner, probs took us to second, and crashed.
that's not fair.
11secs?
CHEAT! CHEAT! CHEAT! :-P
Steven2 is right behind me! Ahh!
Hmmm.... I'm having problems where sometimes it just doesn't register my go...
not.possible.
I try to go quick and i crash. :(
that's been dc's problem all season.
:D
So i need to go faster than 10.5 secs?
Cancel the holidays!
Your not wrong, I can hardly get to the first corner sometimes
Oh dear, just heard a click in the finger i'm using, that can't be good.
omg... i'm gonna be here al night. i wonder if i go into the study and use a desk instead of the sofa if i'll be quicker?....
I refreshed and have a new me. Fortunately the new one seems to be faster
my fingers click all the time ;) no need to worry, unless it really hurts..
Yep, it really hurts. Usually either me shoulder or my knee that clicks though
Is the desk more aerodynamic than the sofa?
haha, i was thinking it would be more comfortable... maybe later...
I think it only registers attempts when you beat your fastest time. It has not registered all my recent crashes.
I'm having R.G's problem.
8 secs before I crashed at the last corner that time... :(
woot! 2nd place! :D i just need to beat steven2 :P
just look at how many attempts i've had... i keep crashing if i go too fast.
Come on, up to fifth (well, fourth) now with a injured finger. So ha Alex, Jon and Mr C
Sooo close to Steven2 now...
Oooh, this is getting fierce
Because cat loves you the most? Are you the person that generally ignores said cat until said cat is climbing up your leg? Quickest way to a cat's heart, ignoring it
rofl
9.2?!?!
Even i have to say wtf?
9.2? 9.2! How the hell did you get 9.2?
omg, Dom, how did you manage 9secs!?
Errr...
I wish I did know...
I could write a book...
12.53s, getting quicker.
Have you done more than one lap near 9.2 or is there a big jump from your next best lap?
It was a jump from 10.5, but i've just done a couple of 9.3s.
wow so there is hope for me yet :P
That's how i have been progressing but I think I have run out of talent now
Alright, quick pitstop over with, lets get more quickies in.
blah!! i keep crashing at he last corner...
I hate the complex I really do. Its getting so bad I'm naming the corners, the first one is the 'DC Chicane' Cos I keep crashing there
i wish i could get to the last corner!!
Lou!!! This is so competitive now...
I kniocked off 12 seconds from my time... 11.25 tops.
haha :P yeah i'm a little competitive...
i'm still faster than abi. i've no idea who abi is mind you?
The track is Siverstone run in the wrong direction starting from Stowe.
haha, i didnt realise she'd put her name in. Abi is my girlfriend, i sent her teh link lol
I'm competitive, but crap.
That could be my new motto.
Speak to us abi!
If anyone's wondering where I've got to, I'm catching up on RLB business. Just finished one of 5 RPs I've got to do for Long Beach that's just gone, all need to be done by midday tomorrow I think if I'm to keep my 100% record so far :P
hi abi!! :D
When I suggested this game I didn't intend for peopel to beat me. Please bear that in mind in future.
:D
lol you do so well in other games :P
I CANT EVEN GET PAST THE DC CHICANE
Hi abi, we're not really that competitive.
Don't worry, I'm baring that in mind right now.
I just put that on the game comments as she may not be reading these comments
Your like the opposite of 'me'. :P
she's catching you very fast, and using a laptops finger pad i might add!!
speak for yourself ;)
I am glad someone realises that taking part is what is important and not beating me
:D
"me" you are well and truly beaten. i've never been as proud as i am now :P
is 'me' still playing? haven't heard from him in a while..
C'mon Dank! You can do it!
Yipee, finished a lap, 2 seconds slower than my best, but a finish is a finish
I'm using the finger pad as well, but a substitution to the T-Car might be coming up.
:(
trying. is the word.
Hey Steven, you're as slow as Pironi on that last lap....
(That should get him moving....)
aww ;) come on 'me' you can do it ;)
Dear Motorsport God,
Please let me not crash next time.
Amen
R.G
Unfortunately my problem is i am doing what he did at Hockenheim. Big crashes all the time.
I'm gonna assume there is a delay in him getting the message
Imagine if you said that and then looked back at the leaderboard and he had done a 7.1.
Dank comes from nowhere!
oh dear i've teken to holding my breath during each attempt...
I keep getting distracted by that flashing sonwflake at Maggots
christ.
ok. am ahead of 'aitch', but that's it.
yeah.... well.... ermm... i wouldn't be too pleased no.. anyway that won't happen. i kept saying that to honda this season and they didn't get much better...
Gah! Now I am too!
Has anyone thought they crashed, then stopped, then crashed whilst getting it back going?
I just have
I am going to hav a Porridge break
I have a feeling that this is going to end up like fantasy racers with 100 entries
That doesn't sound like something a competitve sleigh racing driver would say...
Nooooo! Lou!!
she beat me :(
waaaaaaaaaah
gah! dad wants to take me out. will be back soon. i will pray no one beats my time :P
WOOT!! back soon all x
I have never known the population of sidepodcast to be so religious
OH SWEET GOD
When you reach a point where you can't go any faster it is best to have a break
More religion
Agreed, but porridge? :P
I had a break to go faster, and I've been slower since
Porridge the TV program not that awful breakfast stuff
Ooooh, ok. :D
I've just done a 34.14 second lap.
Woah.
11.172, now fourth ahead of Jordan.
WOOHOO! 10.666 sec!
Got rather sweaty palms now. Urgh!
Oh bugger. Not more competition...
Just did another 9.3 ARGH!!!
What? Come on Steven, you can only break two legs....
DANK! Nooooooooo!
-sobs heavily-
I'M TOP! AND I HAVE CAPS LOCK ON AS WELL!!!
Un-blooming-believable.
Lou not gonna be a happy girl
Chopped 0.002 of my time. Somehow I don't think that is enough
does that make you faster?
Spirit of Gilles guide me....
i'm just trying to be rubbish....
Not for me, still crashing, but in a new place
:D
10.88, getting gradually quicker
Gilles has smiled apon me, 9.86!
Not Jordan too...
Oh I think I'm gonna cry.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, I'm loading up, the computer.
20.069. I suck :(
I think I should take out some LV Sleigh Insurance
I can't seem to make it through the first few turns now. Dagnabit.
Scratch that, I just made top 10! :D In your face, Me and Alex! :D
8th now, steven roy in my sights :P
Keep crashing on either the DC Chicane or the Snowflake, can get past the Complex though
AH SHOOT! I was on for a low 11, probably high 10 sec lap and I crashed on the last corner!
I'm killing myslelf with fustration right now.
my head hurts.
First lap after my break and I went 01s faster. After that rubbish again. I reckon to get the fastest lap I need a 4 day break
sorry. major website outage there.
Yeah, noticed.
That game is fixed, I refreshed cos it was going a bit slow, I set out a warm up lap and now thats my fastest time.
One is not happy.
:)
Don't worry, just set a new time which is quicker than yours
NOO!!! i go out for just under an hour. Right, this means War :P
:D
Man i am half a tenth behind steven and it's taken him over 200 attempts to get there :D
Is this what we're destined to be doing over the entire christmas and new year?
"Sorry, can't come out tonight, I've got to try and shave a second off my best Reindeer time"
People will think you've been on the sherry too much if you said that.
Personally, I have much more important and grown up things to be doing. If you'll excuse me, I've got to get back to my lego McLaren.
ehehe :D 8.045 seconds :D beat that! :D
apparently going shopping makes you faster.
Ooh Lego McLaren! Where can I get one and can we see it when it's finished? :D
Sweet god of gods of the heavens
will you take a pic of it when you've done it?
tesco, but it's not real lego.
Of course!!
Yeah! got into the 9s! :D
Mega Bloks. Looks like Lego though.
I was thinking more Duplo but...meh, it's all the same really :P
All this and I can't even get my portable mouse to work
can't believe it. I just shaved 1.8 seconds off my best time to go from a 11.4 to a 9.6! :D
now, if I can shave another 1.8 seconds...
:D
Just reposting the link as it fell off our Real Time Doohickeys.
http://www.reindeerracer.co.uk/game/nnnLaSeT
Apparantly messing around with a mouse still makes you crash
Hey, where is my 9.86?
OOH! 8.76! :D
8.77 i mean :D
oh no! chrome crashed on me... i think i might end up with x2 lous...
I refreshed and, i ended up with no time :(
how the....
yeah there are x2 lous... sorry about that...
10.93, almost the 10.88 I got earlier
Seriously, I have no idea but :D
Anyway, isn't the pressing question really - how the hell did you get 8.0?!?!
basically... i went shopping, saw Dank's time, did a lap and it was faster... so yeah, went shopping. :P
I need a mouse, and on which a computer that isn't slower than Nicolas Kiesa
What did you buy cos I have to do the same. In my last 150 attempts I have gained 0.1 seconds and now can't get anywhere near a good time.
See the difference there is I didn't need to go to the shops to get that time ;)
i bought some bath stuff for mum.... :P
I just did a lap where I crossed the finish line and the clock didn't stop. I then reversed over it and it did.
Would she like more?
oh no!! Chrome crashed on me again :( that means there will be 3 lous... damn there needs to be some sort of log in thing...
Well done for finishing a lap, haven't finished one for at least 30 attempts now.
yep, i'm sure she would :)
Use something other than Chrome?
but i like chrome... meh, firefox it is then...
I'm on a good lap and then I crash at The Clock Curve
If the elves didn't stop the development of this years sleigh I would have had a better showing. I can only hope next years sleigh performs better then maybe I'll make it to the podium or even win.
:)
i blame max.
Panda news! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7796312.stm
panda peace offering?
I need one of them, cos you're in love with another woman.
9.578, Gilles be praised!
Several actually, and don't forget Ted and Jean
I think if medals were awarded I might be motivated to do better.
Several panda peace offerings. Woohoo :)
you're not helping!
Hehe.
Went straight on at the complex, am not enjoying this, but still plugging away at it
Drink! ;)
Hire car sorted... well - car in he vaguest term.
I've got a Corsavan.... :(
Merry Christmas? Bah humbug!
I have a picture of him on my wall and he is helping you out.
Spirit of Ledley King, help me out.
Thats maybe cos he is still alive, Sir Bill Nicholson, may your spirit help me in the cause
wow i just noticed that there aren't 3 lous... just 2... strange..
My computer crashed and my first lap that I didn't crash on afterwards was 9.7s. For some reason i didn't get another version of me so there are still only 2.
Homage to Father Jack from Father Ted there :D
8.12 seconds yeeeeehaaaaarggggggh
No... Steven is so close... must.try.harder...
7.89
NOOOOO :(
Plan B in action
7.275
This game just got an awful lot easier
Steven how the hell did you do a 7.275 sec?
how, how, how?!! :P
Plan B apparantly not working
I bought your mother a better present than you did I guess :)
I think it is time we stopped playing this game now.
haha XD
I just did 5 or 6 laps areound 7.5 now I am crashing all the time again.
Plan B = Even Slower than Mr C
I've got to say, it's very hard to get F1 Minute done when I'm being entertained by you all and your competitiveness.
i was on for a fast lap till i crashed...
Plan B = Failed
you just say that cause you're afraid someone will beat your time :P
You can do donuts with reindeer and a sleigh.
have you had a go christine?
Just got back...
HOW THE HELL 7.2?!?!
I am just worried that your Xmas will be ruined because you are slower than me
woot i beat my old time :D
Briefly. Didn't manage to complete a lap. I don't have the patience that you all do to keep on keeping on.
Hi Dom. Everything OK with you? :D
lol nah ;) i may be competitive but i wont sulk about it all over christmas (although i am still planning on how i am gonna beat 'me' next year in FR) :P
Plan C = C for Comfortable
Try plan F for fast or plan Q for quick
haha
No, no, no. The more comfortable I am, the likelyhood I can go quicker
That IS NOT possible.
Drugs test!
I'm off the pace now. :( :(
every time i look at the timer i crash...
how on earth did you get 7.5 seconds!?!?!?
woot! 6.959 sec :D
no way?
Is there a really angry fuming smily?
For Pete's sake. I'm gonna have to try this again tommorow.
Something bad has happened since the 9.2...
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
:D
Just lost it at the Heartbeat Hairpin (the last corner, yes I have named every corner)
I used to be like that... :P
I'm sorry, but why am I at 7 secs at the Clock Curve?
I got an 8.81!!! Woot!
6.639 sec :)
I'm not bloody in the league anymore.
ARGH!!!! :( :(
5.8?????
5.823 sec :D
By the way, I got myself some great Sony headphones this morning before work in HMV. The bit where your ears rest slope inwards so that they fit the angle of your ears nice and snug. Plus sound quality is great too and plenty of noise reduction to protect my ears too. Not bad for £12.99.
At least it's something to take the subject away from you know what at the moment :P
Everytime I am on a sub 10 sec lap, I crash as the Heartbeat Hairpin
My corner names can be found here
http://sidepodcast.wetpaint.com/page/Reindeer+Racer#edit
My fastest time just disappeared. Now I am a second slower.
Managed to get a 7.4
How are you doing it this quickly, seriously, how?
Just improved my time (HALLELUJIAH) realised I have had 220 attempts in trying to improve my time.
That's 4 RPs done for the RLB IndyCar for Long Beach, just the race RP to do :P
Just move the cursor faster. If only it worked like that when i try to catch Lou.
My best time disappeared again.
C'mon 10.255secs.
Took me 520 attempts, and I still aint at below 10 secs
7.232 Getting close :)
oh please... i'd like to win something :P
By the way, I got myself some great Sony headphones this morning before work in HMV. The bit where your ears rest slope inwards so that they fit the angle of your ears nice and snug. I have a funny ear equipment story. Yesterday, the earphones broke for my PDA (they'd been borrowed from a two-year-old £10 MP3 player before spending 20 months on the PDA, so maybe that wasn't so surprising). However, I discovered that nowhere sold earphones small enough for the PDA, because it has a 2.5mm socket.
So I ended up paying £8 for an adaptor and... ...borrowing the headphones from an even older MP3 player!
It seems a bit strange having an adaptor that's worth about 10 times the amount the earphones they're connected to are worth.
Don't F5 the game or you lose all you times
:( ok. ;)
I can't do any better, even using my Secret Weapon
I'm scared to ask!
Where did you find the adaptor? I have a PDA with a similarly too small socket and would like to use different headphones with it.
you have a secret weapon?
Oh yes. Muhahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Pandas on Mock the Week
huh? Mock the week is on?!
Yep
tis ok, have seen that one before :) although i do love watching Russell Howard :D
It's Xmas highlights. So bits of lots of shows
ooh right. i shall watch the first bit once it comes up on iplayer then :) thanks
What's it worth to divulge the 'secret weapon'?
What's it worth to Andy for my silence (he who promised me a cup of tea half an hour ago....)?
I was going to tell them anyway. Eventually.
Who's the wise guy that told him that Pironi set a new track record?
no matter how hard i try i can't improve on my time...
Same here. :(
Any racing is like that.
If this is what a reindeer game does to us it is probably just as well that we will be wearing crash helmets while we are karting
:) Can't wait.
Notice I managed 2nd place with just 85 attempts?
tis a very good job i'm not karting isen't it :P
Why are you not karting? You were supposed to be originally weren't you.
I'm like 8th with 550
well i was originally meant to be just going up to the show, and maybe watching... now i'm not sure if i can even get up to the show...
Why?
i'm only 17 and going all the way up to Birmingham on my own is not a good idea in dad's opinion... hopefully i will persuade mum to come up with me or something... maybe she can go shopping or something.... :/
I'm sure we can change his mind, we're just some guys off the Internets.
Oh, wait.
Bullring is a canny size actually, decent shopping centre with close links with the railway station
I can understand that.
yeah my friend whos in uni there says it's good for shopping, thing is mum's not a big shopping fan....
I don't suppose she wants to go karting?
my mum?! haha lol no she wont want to go karting.
For insomniacs: 02:15 - 02:45 on Channel 4: Adrenalin Rush. Programme on this year's Mark Webber Challenge which will probably include a certain accident.
:O OH NO!!! It lost my time!!!! NOOOO :( i'll never do that again :(
oooh.
& for those who who don't spend the early hours of the morning on sidepodcast it will be on 4OD by the morning
Ah, well, when I went down to Birmingham, I only went to the railway station, the hotel, the bullring and Villa Park.
Does she like football?
It has done that to my twice now. Fortunately I was able to get very close to my best time so no big deal.
erm... no i don't think she does.
i was proud i had done 5secs... damn, i didn't do anything either
Can you not just tell her the show is on a subject she is really interested in then when you get there and it is a racing show just act surprised.
I think dropioing screen shots of fastest time may be necessary after all
lol my mum? or my friend? mum would probably be ok about going to a motorshow, since she has been to loads before. but my friend? there is a small matter of money with that plan ;)
If anyoone hasn't refreshed their league table and still has Lou's fastest time showing can you dropio it?
Damn, refreshed just before reading this.
Ah... what will they do when you have uni interviews? (well, assuming you are going anyway).
Or am I just the weird one for skitting all over the country at 17/18 on the train on my own (and sorting my own accomodation as well, cos you can't do Newcastle, Salford, and the like from Somerset in a day when the whole day is needed for the interview).
Would your dad be happy(happier) if you could be 'met' halfway or similar?
tbh i'm not sure, i should think that will be a different story and will be fine.
Don't know so much. It wasn't last year when they showed the 2007 challenge.
no idea, probably not. i think it's the thought of me doing it all in a day, and travelling so far away. hopefully mum will come up at least 1/2 way with me... it's not like i don't know the route to Euston Station in London to catch the train to Birmingham....i've been to Euston station loads of times before.
She doesn't have to tell her parents that she is going to meet a buch of people from the internet when she is doing university interviews.
Imagine you were a parent of someone who spent her time on a website run by someone anonymous who wore a panda suit to hide his identity. Some people could find that odd.
:D
:D
That's got to be quote of the month/year surely? :-D
Why do I feel another wiki page coming on. Sidepodquotes
For those asking of lou's special lap
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/rr
I'll try and getting it bigger
Thanks R.G
I think my parents are kinda ok with me meeting you guys, after all i met 'me' and christine at Goodwood, and they had no trouble with that... then again i suppose i wasn't miles away then...
You were very lost thought :)
*though
You can see it a bit better here
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/r2
That's great RG. You can see the time on that one so that should be good enough.
Hmm well yes.
OK, I am now officially weird. I did so much 'stuff' like theabove at your age Lou; and its pretty normal in the home ed community for our teens to be going off on their own in this way (although most of us in the position of offering our children that responsibility are pretty net savvy and people are checked out and then some....
yeah... well Goodwood is big, i can get through london's train and underground system fine ;) it was the whole knowing which direction we came from when we have never been to that particular part of a huge motor show before... :P i can read a map sometimes ;) i managed to navigate our group on a 15 mile walk for D of E :)
If we're still talking about the Autosport Show, I should be still going, although Dad's not said anything about the tickets. Methinks I might buy one of them myself and he buys his own. That way it saves him a bit of money. :)
lol i go up to london a lot with friends etc. but that's at most about 1hr 1/2 away. going to Birmingham is twice as long. i'm working on persuading him... but i'm a little unsure if its the meeting people he minds or the travelling home alone at what will end up to be a late time at night.
Here's a thought - should we all meet up in the morning and go round as a group? Hmm, it's just a thought, although there is the factor of one person wanting to go one place and someone else wanting to go another. That could cause conflict. But then again, it might be fun and interesting to see who enjoys doing what at the show. I'm sure if we were to do it, we'd work something out beforehand. :)
Aww, looking at the Wiki it looks like I'll be the only one going on Sunday. :(
Dank to the rescue! For those that haven't booked their tickets just yet for Autosport International and are looking to go in a pair use the code 'as04241' in the promotion box when ordering tickets to get the BOGOF/2-4-1 deal. This is only for Saturday and Sunday though, not the trade day on Friday.
legend.
ooooooo now that's interesting....
Might be worth going now. Maybe.
Let me know if it works. Just received the code from someone else. I haven't booked my ticket(s) yet.
thanks Dank :D Mum might be more inclined to go... or i might be able to persuade a friend to grin and bare it and come with me ;)
do we think the autosport tickets are just too damn pricey?
we're not that bad :P
:D
Code definitely works by the way. Just tested it.
Yup. £32 is the going rate including booking fee. £8 to park at NEC... and for what? A glorified trade show with little or no redeeming features of the general public. Shame really, could be really good if a little more thought went into it.
Well I guess the Paddock Pass isn't too bad. Me and Dad have had them for the past two years and last year it got you entry into a second "sub-show" which was the Pistonheads Car Show. Plus it's great for going round the back of the Live Action Arena and seeing the cars which take part in the shows. The PH show is taking place again, so if effectively you want access to two shows with one ticket, the PP is worth it. But then Dank does make a valid point also.
damn, forgot about parking prices.
i meant the friend that would come with me.. none of my friends are big on cars.. or f1 for that matter, but i go on enough about you guys/SPC enough to them they would probably be more than happy to meet you :P
So get the train, or park at the station :)
not em?
Hire out a Sidepodcast Minibus!
with our cameras?
that would really be pushing it, i don't speak to her as often as i did anymore cause term time is really busy and we don't share any lessons :( i'm sure she would love to meet you all again, after the great time she had at goodwood, i just wonder if she would be up for going all the way up to london for it....
i meant Birmingham obviously ;)
can't hurt to ask.
Rucksack? How many cameras have you got anyway?
:D
Can I just ask you people if anyone is planning to go Sunday? Just wanted to check in case I'm gonna be lonely (apart from my dad) :P
By my guesses only a couple, but they're huge.
video cam, dslr, pocket camera. also microphone + lead + recorder for interviews.
:) will ask her when i next speak to her if she is not working that day and is free.
we haven't decided to be honest. we did two days last year and left way before the end cause we were tired.
can't promise, but then you know us.
oh and a laptop + 3g for blogging.
yeah your bag was pretty full with gadgets at goodwood... can't imagine i would want to take that lot on a train with me...
and a g1.
to be fair that can go in your pocket surely? ;)
christine's building her mclaren sudo-lego thingy, got to page 12, and noticed the driver is alonso.
i fear for our front door.
shhh ;)
:D
They don't tell you that before page 12?
hehe :)
nothing wrong with Alonso ;) I met someone yesterday that kinda watched f1 and hated Alonso cause of all that she had read in the papers about him, but apparently hated Button even more. yeah that was an interesting conversation ;)
:D :D
must be reading the times.
You mean pretend it is Donington
I thought about doing both days but one day should be enough so am unlikely to be there on Sunday
This reindeer game is biased. I don't have a mouse! :-(
yay! i just told dad about the tickets, and that we were chatting about Autosport international and he took an interest. Asking when and where it was. The conversation ended with 'well... i'll have a think about it' which is progress from the whole 'NO you are NOT going!' thing he said last week :)
christine is crawling around on the floor looking for very small pieces of plastic.
the daily post may be delayed.
Erk! Missus alert :-(
are you playing then, only i don't see you on the league table.
*runs and hides, pretends to looks for missing pieces*
:-p
best excuss ever for the delay of the daily post :D
busted.
I can't get round the track! No mouse! I give up *throws her toys out the pram*
This is the online equivalent of my own shed. I feel violated.
c'mon. you can do it. my first time at the line was 55 seconds.
:D
:D
Radical idea: use a mouse?
you cant use that as an excuse, my girlfriend got a sub 14 second lap without a mouse :P
apologies for live commenting the building of lego toys, but overheard in our house:
"bloody sponsor stickers, i prefer honda's approach"
Smart arse!
yay! see, honda were great :)
no need to apologise :) tis funny :D
Hmm, all that would fit in my camera bag, and the laptop too.
We have live commented everything else
Umm. You swore. I'm telling.
are you in the TA?
ed209?
Hmm...when I see Dad tomorrow, I might put it to him that we could try going on the Saturday instead of the Sunday. I mean, we always say we go because we can get some great bargains on stuff, but to be honest we haven't bought anything really in a few years. I reckon Saturday might be more fun anyway. There's a karting race and I reckon that would be cool to watch. Especially Me trying to drive competitively. :D
I did it!! Whoop whoop!!
:D
woot! i cought the mouse the cats bought in earlier!
bugger, that's good!
I will pay you not to beat me!
No live broadcast?
No, too old and hair too long.
I have room for DSLR +18-50mm lens, 50mm lens, 70-300mm lens, 2 flashguns, video camera, Macbook Pro. I'd also have room for a microphone and minidisc recorder too.
i'm gonna come last. seriously, i've karted twice in my whole life.
brilliant, meet us at the entrance saturday morning. i have some stuff...
Don't think you'll need to!!
That's my total so far too, but I'm not going to be last I hope. I may try practising at Daytona in MK
I've only done it 3 times so you're not on your own. Then again, I'm not taking part and even if I wanted to, which to be honest I do and who wouldn't, I doubt either myself or Dad has a spare £300 lying around to enter. That and we don't have a sponsor.
car is built. apparently the cockpit sides have to be fitted after the driver's in. nice touch.
I wasn't going to come to the show, just the karting.
HOW MUCH?
we've paid, about £20 so far?
you say that now, but you get competitive and then you get good. i'm just competitive, im not good!
Drop.io! Drop.io!
how come?
prat perch needs building first.
I haven't sat in a kart in many years so I am not expecting much
What's the karting race on saturday then?
the what?
I think the answer is in the comments - the cost of the ticket
all I know of is the celebrity one on friday. I didn't know there was another one.
Very harsh on Fernando that... :P
It's only £40ish not £300
no, no. not that one. we're having a bloggers karting event. alia's organising it. no where near that much.
ish? Is that sidepodcast currency now?
even with dan's uber-discount-code (tm)?
Ooh right, where's that?
:D
The prat perch is the name given to the pitwall stand by the Lotus mechanics when they had the first one.
It's on Ali's wiki
http://alianoralacanta.wik.is/Sidepodcast%27s_Corner/The_F1_Bloggers_and_Friends_Karting_Competition
oh right... i was thinking it had something to do with Max... or the FIA or something :P
No no. It's £300, but I can do you all a special credit crunch busting deal. £150 and I'll enter you into the race myself. Honest. ;-)
Well my dad likes a spot of karting. I might put it to him and say I'll go halves with him to pay for the tickets and the entry fee. ;) Since I'm working boxing day and getting triple pay AND new years day and getting time and a half pay.
oh look... it's christmas eve... i have one question for you all, why don't i feel christmasy yet?! :(
i know, i dont get it :(
Because it's just another day?
Best check with Alianora first because I am sure there was a deadline a while back. She may be able to fit you in but I am not sure it is possible now.
I don't either
Bugger. I always miss the deadline on these kind of things :(
I never feel christmassy on christmas eve.
yeah probably....
that's comforting, i was thinking it was cause i was groing up or something :P
Or maybe... every day is like Christmas?
17 is a long way from being too grown up for Xmas
Nooo! Don't say that!
Nah, he bought himself a Krumpler in the days when he used to commute to London every sodding day.
im not that much older than you :P
tonight, we live comment santa ;)
Don't trust him! He once sold me a brand new "Rolex" for £20. I didn't realise they didn't do them in barbie pink at the time ...
:D
:D
haha XD i wish :P
lol :)
good good :D
Yaaaay!
Well I guess I could come to the show and then if any of you guys are going in by car we could follow. But I dunno what dad would think though.
ahaha :D
are you dating delboy?
AHAHAHAHA! What?!
they dont!?!? oh boy :P
ah damn it yet another comment into moderation, that's two this evening
christine's not driving, she's interviewing the contenders in the bar!
ahaha XD @D
It's probably better to ask him then guessing.
Although we could make a game out of it...
:)
http://www.noradsanta.org/en/home.html
November 30th was the deadline for entries for the karting?! Damn, I really did miss something here.
This plan's not going very well for me, is it? :(
done.
you can always go and watch ;) if i go and manage to stay for karting, i'll be watching :)
thank you, it doesn't seem to like me atm.
The 12 F1 days are very much helping though.
Don't worry - I've *never* felt Christmassy, growing up in a house where there was a birthday a mere 24 hours earlier :-) . Well, apart from the one year that we went to a friends in cornwall (country cottage, rayburn in one room, open fire in the other, traditionally windy outside etc etc etc. DP had fun because he got fed pheasant (he doesn't get that sort of thing here, lol) and midnight mass in a tiny cornish church up the side of a hill taller than the one the friends house was on.
And then there was the year I was and entertainment life form at harrods... I could happily have shot Lorraine Kelley by the end of that, lol. That killed christmas right off. Although it was fun in other ways (like seeing what ejits 'celebrities' are when they are coming to see Father Christmas)
We are totally unChristmassy here anyway - not a light, not a bit of tinsel. nothing rofl. We might get round to building a gingerbread house tomorrow though...
I hope i feel a bit more christmassy tommorrow (today), i need to buy the inlaws a potted plant (apparently thats what they like :/ ) so i'll need some serious inspiration....
Aww damnit now I'm getting confused about what to do and if I should go and watch the karting. I dunno what my Dad would think about it all. I mean he likes karting, but usually from behind the wheel, not behind the barrier. I can ask him but I'm not sure.
Can't hurt to ask.
I can do you a genuine Rolex for the same money. I also have a Porsche watch which is yours for £27.50.
it's not from behind a barrier... it's from the bar ;) that might pursuade him :P
Weeell, he's not much of a drinker, and he has to drive.
oh my lord:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/n667872554-344721-2236
impressive
:D
WOW that's amazing. i've never made gingrbread before... kudos to you Jon!
I like the birhtday cake too! :D
When I looked at that the first thing I tought was custard. Pour custard over it. mmmmmmm
That's good
The ikea kit is looking less attractive now, lol.
But there is Stollen to be made as well :-)
id be lying if i said i made it myself, my bro and is girlfriend made the structure and i helped decorate it :)
can anyone guess what car it is?
fif1's 2009 entry?
In the land of the Frozen Tundra when we allow our children to go around the block we do not expect to see them for until another next week as the blocks are so long here.
We do ask our neighbours to keep an eye out for them however, But whereas people in other countries have something called "Postal Codes" are mail is sorted based on what Time Zone you live in.....
I would call up Lady Snowcat but, she has an unlisted area code....
:D i wish
ahh, it's the car that inspired renault's tuned mass damper?
Citröen 2CV :)
ROFL
I'm sat watching the bbc2 programme 'I'm dreaming of a TV Christmas' and wondering if the lack of christmas whoop is down to the lack of this sort of TV these days? There is also a distinct lack of old musicals on until the new year...
Loeb's new Citroen for next year's WRC?
correctamundo
i think they took a 2CV to dakar a few years ago, it was funny
:o
Woweeeeee.
:D
Just as long as no one says Minadri DNA.....
Is Mary Poppins on? It ain't Christmas unless she falls from the sky with her umbrella at least once.
your a funny, funny guy :P
hehe :)
It's a hell of a party trick.
Not found it in the radio times yet. There are a couple of other things though - and if worst comes to it I'll make everyone watch 'the box of delights' again :-)
(chronicles of narnia - the bbc box set - has already had an outing this month :-) )
But there is a definate lack of Astaire/Rodgers, Monroe carriers, George M. Cohen, and the like... I can't even find any G&S on the schedules anywhere :-(
Yes, I admit it, I am a musicals geek!
all done:
The man wouldn't stand up. I like to think Nakajima stole the car from Alonso.
ROFL at the picture - that's awesome.
i want one :)
Love it. :)
I still think the Lego models are better, pity they are Ferraris.
awesome :D
I'm trying to talk him into it for my next present.
he may not have bought yours yet :P
Lovely :-)
Its the 40th Birthday of Earthrise
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7797439.stm
Strangely enough, that does make just a tiny tingle of christmas feeling
You BUY the Radiotimes? In this day in age? Crumbs. Although I guess taking a highligther pen to a monitor to highlight programmes of interest over the Christmas period isn't quite the same.
As an aside; showing my age, but does anyone remember the days when you would have to buy the RadioTimes for BBC1 and BBC2 and then the TV Times for ITV and Channel 4? What a con. Eee, I feel old!
i totally can do without the aggravation.
They've got them in the lego shop here :-)
me.
You have a shop dedicated to Lego?? Love it.
you have a lego shop?
We only buy the Christmas edition, this year mainly for th Wallace & Gromit cover/article.
Oh yes, I remember that too.
Don't worry - only this one issue a year. (well, it was two last, because the way that christmas and newyear fell the former ended before the new year began, grrr).
Can't take a highlighter to it though, cos the youngest child took them to the walls earlier in the year and DP threw them out in disgust. Seemed a bit wasteful to get one especially for doing the radio times with, lol.
Yep :) There are only 3 in the UK - Bluewater, Brighton and Milton Keynes.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!
I finally beat my girlfriends time on Reindeer Racer. Boy oh boy!! Ah Yeah!!! I had to stop myself from cheering loudly so i wouldnt wake the house!!
Hehe. I'm amazed no one wants to know my secret.
there is one in Bluewater?! i've been to bluewater tones of times and never noticed a lego shop... then again i'm always in apple, waterstones or paperchase :P
i do! do you have a tablet or something?
It worrys me that you know that :P
Just looked up the Ferrari lego:
http://shop.lego.com/product/?p=8157&LangId=2057&ShipTo=UK
£68 for a car!!!
I got a car and a pit thing for under £20.
I do :D
your still going with that?
The Brighton one has gone now, sadly.
i stopped for a few hours while hte family were over, but now im back to it :D
u mean i got it!?!?
you could go to autosport twice for that... just.
:D
thats because a) its actually quite big, and b) its ferrari. so its expensive lol
Revise your trivia!
It better come with some proper secrets for that price.
Yep. Its a 'proper' owned by lego, lego shop as well :-) They had the advent calenders long after everywhere else had sold out (although we consistently forgot to go and get one, oopps).
A promise to visit it at the end of time in town is *almost* enough to guarantee that DS will stay put and not run off :-)
We also have a branch here of the Brickish assoc. But DS is too young to join that, lol.
Turns out that MK was also the site of the world record Lego tower back in the early 80's too :-)
dossier not included, apparently.
:( That's sad.
It is 1:1 scale though.
Christine is welcome to my model paint if she wants to have striped tyres as part of the "Make f1 Green" plan..... if she wants to....
1:9!! Jeez louise. I might as well build an actual car!
Anything with a badge on, as we learned from that wizards sleve.
:D
try ebay?
The Ferrari F1 Lego car is 1:9 scale, so there's a lot of lego bricks for the money. If you think it is expensive, try the Millennium Falcon at over £300!
How about the Ferrari Lego Pit?
http://shop.lego.com/product/?p=8155&LangId=2057&ShipTo=UK
that IS cool
lol i love it when people say that... it always makes me laugh. although it used to confuse me when i was younger, i used to think i had done something wrong :P
ALL the Lego-Ferrari items are cool. I remember buying the original 1:10 F2003-GA back in 2004. It's still proudly displayed in our home. :D
But the actual Ferrari car doesn't fit. Crazy doing things at two different sizes, isn't it?
Lego Millennium Falcon is 5,000+ bricks for £342 and looks amazing. You can even fit minifigures inside it :)
This on the other hand is a travesty:
http://shop.lego.com/product/?p=10187&LangId=2057&ShipTo=UK
The pit comes with its own car of the right scale.
herbie?
eww, thats horid. you'd have thought they put some smooth bricks in
Slightly older, slightly smaller, much cheaper Lego Ferrari model.
Look at that rear wing!
That is SO cool. :D
Agreed. While I DO love the fact that they started with Ferrari, it would have been better if they started doing models for other teams too.
Cmon, Mr. C, Lego-Ferrari is as good as it gets!
The finished Beetle looks really good if you see it in person. Trust me on that. :)
There is a rally course at Legoland Denmark :-) But you have to be short to go on it, and sadly I'm not short enough :-(
It is currently DS's life ambition to go to Legoland. Preferably the original one in Denmark so he can also stay in the Legoland hotel in the park.
His second ambition atm to to become an engineer so he can either work building models at legoland, or on *big red cars*... which means we at least live in roughly the right bit of the country rofl...
not.helping.
The finished Beetle does *not* look good in person... I usually end up having to see it twice a week and its Painful...
(its in the shop! we don't have one!)
I have seen a 'good' beetle in lego, but its a brickish assoc. model not a lego kit. They have both versions of Marvin in the touring exhibition atm as well :-)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7661211.stm
But it has a pull-back motor!
C'mon, it's the right thing to dooooo! :D
aww man.
Hmm....it's 1.10am and i'm switching between playing a game where i direct Santa's sleigh through a circuit that looks a bit like Silverstone and talk about Lego....
i think its time for my bed, lets hope i feel a bit more christmassy tommorrow :)
night all
night jon.
night :)
Your too late me, the fat bugger is already taken off and we are tracking him on the DEW (Distant Early Warning) Line here at North American Air Defense (NORAD). His is heading to New Zealand and Australia so that he can start drop ping presnets on time.
This might help.
http://www.noradsanta.org/
No.It.Doesn't. I have uploaded what a real Beetle (mine) looks like for comparison.
Has Ron stabbed Alonso with an air hammer
Night Jon!
(very Walton-esque this)
Oh - and you could always buy the bricks and build whatever team colours you wanted in F1 cars... (if you need odd bricks that aren't usually sold singly, there are a couple of specialist websites, incl. the brickish lot, that sell them singly).
So you aren't 'stuck' with ferrari. There's an American company that will custom transfer lego figures for you in the 'right' colours as well.
There are some lovely bits of film somewhere showing the inside workings of the lego factory... Andy do you have the links still?
Maybe that's it. The driver has no sponsorship, so I wondered whether it could be the Stig.
More like Louise Goodman talking to the retirees, if you ask me.
"So David what went wrong with the cart...."
http://gizmodo.com/5022769/exclusive-inside-the-lego-factory
You also need to have seen the Lego rendering of Eddie Izzard's Darth Vader in the Death Star Canteen routine as well.
NASA have been plugging that all week. About half way through the vid they show the colour earthrise which has to be the best photo ever just for the impact it had.
http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/apollo40/index.html
The original KERS? :)
I believe LEGO.com sells them online too. :)
SERIOUSLY? Oh, do tell us more.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/lnd1898
:D
http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=8155&cn=112
You can get a Ferrari pit for £24
lovely photo!
It was all over the papers^W The Sun a couple of weeks ago - the company that makes a Taliban minifig out of other Lego models.
Thanks. Taken in 5 minutes on my way home after picking it up from the restorers. I think it has an authentic 1970s feel to it. :)
Any links? We don't have The Sun here. :)
Thanks for the link, Andy. It's just... wow. :)
As I was a LEGO fan years before I became an F1 fan, I'm so happy it's become a topic of discussion here. :D The fact that LEGO is doing F1 models is just... heaven. :D
So rather appropriate that it now lives outside a 1970's house (albeit one with sad 1990's double glazing etc... not our doing!!)
Apparently, the system doesn't like my declaration of love of Lego - it sent it to the spam queue.
Youtube is full of Lego Star Wars sketches and similar things
Nooo - try again...
But isn't lego just the simplest/nicest thing ever?
They've got pre-lego lego in the local toy museum :-) (which just happens to be where the lovely National Museum of Computing is, and also a lot of falling down buildings that housed some brilliant mathematicians :-) )
it's really nice. like some of the photos i have been studying for my a level actually. strange question, but would you mind if i included it in my project? i have been studying beetles for a bit you see for example - http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/3085364868/
i has found.
i had no idea. lego is the greatest toy, if only because you imagination is the limit.
I'd be honoured - let me know if you need a higher resolution version.
yay, thank you :) will do. that should be fine though :D
Our youngest got Lego for Christmas last year. It is scattered across the house, but he plays with it all the time
And as easter comes around Lou, they'll be the sussex gathering where you could photograph *lots* of bugs (and buses, and ghias and other things :-) ) if you wanted to. There's usually an autojumble thing on Romney Marsh May ish as well, but that's probably a bit late for an A2 project.
Agreed. Now that I'm a bit older, I like giving small LEGO sets to my godchildren - it's the best thing around to jumpstart any kid's imagination - not those dang computer games we have today. :)
Not surprised at all. ;)
wow i live like 1/2 hour from Romney Marsh... that could be do able. It will be too late for A2 but i'll take pics of cars at any time, for any reason ;)
can he make a ferrari pls?
You know, Christine can make one herself, if you buy her one. :PWahahahahaha!
Lou,
The VW owners club site http://www.vwocgb.com/ says that they will post their 2009 calendar soon so you may get some sort of event near you.
I think this is like the panda suit. He says no but we know what he really means
oh jeez.
LOL
Although I did have some thoughts that lego would be the perfect medium for some sidepodcast stop-motion for a review of the year... but sadly because the lego is *everywhere* (as in, bare feet are not a good idea here, lol) it would require a huge effort to do it (plus needing to buy a lot of minifigures, as DS isn't too keen on those so has but a couple... actually, that's a definate plus to having the shop here, because they seem to give away minifigures and goody bags for all sorts of random reasons - the last one was everyone who had a go at building mini-clone stormtroopers against the clock, got to take one home. The winner of each round got to take home 3, and the winner of the day would get something bigger)
You realise whenever you refuse to do something we'll be expecting you to do it from now on?
i do now.
that would be mental!
Considering how long live recordings take I can't imagine how long 5 minutes of stop motion would take.
It'd be good for the pitstops that went wrong.
Not so good to illustrate stewards decisions, though...
have never even tried it. i'd imagine the best part of a year.
can lego figurine's stick two fingers up to the fans?
Agreed, Steven Roy. It's just a matter of time, really. :D We know who's the boss over there. :P
Given that Ferrari was the one that screwed up most often, that would actually work out VERY well indeed. :D :P
At this rate Me, you're going to be losing your working days to animation, lego, and avoiding saying 'no' for fear that you'll be held to the opposite!
Erm, they only HAVE two fingers. :P
Comment in moderation - again?
Well if you have never tried it I suppose you should do a little 30 second vid just to tick that off your list.
For some reason that gave me the idea to make it into a lego musical.
WHOA. That was quite a logical leap. Haha!
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9OMB0
:D
I think at the start of every new daily thread we should guess what we will end up discussing.
I am sure I would have guessed sleigh racing and stop motion lego musicals.
:D
:D
i don't have any lego anymore (and have no plans to buy any). i don't have the patience for stop animation either, sadly.
Lego is great though - you don't need to move every frame like you do with plasticine or other armature models, and although its a bit 'clunky' because of that you can do a 30 sec clip in about an hour tops as long as its all fixed lens.
Mind you - that was when I was in college, not done any seriously (other than supervising it in 'english' classes) since then, rofl.
excellent. tomorrow's easy though isn't it?
Surely that would influence our discussion though?
i presume that that bit in parenthesis is for Christine? :P
Not the "Beer Song" done to Lego Pirates to the tune of the Toredor March from "Carmen"....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATBl4qH9I54
Woot! my day has just been made better by a happy and rather optimistic christmas message from Jenson oh dear i worry for myself sometimes...
:)
:D
But Christine wants the Ferrari set...
For stop motion try iStopMotion - works with the Mac's iSight camera
Speaking of Lego animation... :-D
Aaaah! Links everywhere!
she's not having one (unless she buys it herself).
:D
:D
i think it could influence our starting point but since our starting point and where we end up bear no relation to each other. As an example the first comments on this item are about Xmas carols and Auld Lang Syne. From there it is a big leap to sleigh racing and stop motion lego musicals
A dangermouse t-shirt!
Although he does have a touch of the Will Youngs about him there....
Ooooh. That sounds like a challenge. It really DOES remind me of the panda suit! :P
In that case our guesses could never be right?
People have built computers out of lego.
:D :D
http://acarol.woz.org/
You mean that Honda has come up with a way of gett the dog to race the car! That's awesome....
ok. so that confirms they're "together" right?
we can push any maybe's and must-be's aside, and say those two are a couple. correct?
Well - if you don't want to buy a whole 1:9 scale model, you could just get a racing driver minifigure?
Drink!
Even that video is F1 related... just... ;)
Right - going to sleep now! Before I have lego dreams... Goodnight all nightowl UKers and all others for whom it is now day again :-)
it's 2am again. see ya.
How did that happen?
Too late for that? Night LPG. :)
i blame steven roy.
Remember the game?
I do. I'll never forget...
And for good reason! :P
I am not here
:D
it's possible they are, they've been photographed going clubbing together recently... then again his physio/trainer was there too... and he has also been seen with another girl outside his London apartment quite a few times ;)
I thought you meant him and the dog for a second... :P
Night, LPG, only 21:13 in Frozen Tundra land, and Olive, the other reindeer, is depressed that he was not able to sub in for the other eight or nine reindeer. Poor guy.....
:D
:D
i'm going to go with couple. that's basically his dog now.
haha XD
lol fair enough...
night LPG
christ it's cold in here.
put a jumper on?
god i sound like my mother..... ;)
gotta be careful not to wake you-know-who.
Is she sleeping on the jumpers?
credit crunch bites hard :)
I heard that Panda Suits are very warm me...
:D Worth staying up for that one. Night all.
i can get in it... i can't get out of it alone.
could be a warm night!
you're on the laptop in your bedroom?
see ya andy.
no. that's where the jumpers are. am in the (cold) living room.
where's webber on this program?
Night Andy.
Hospital?
ooh right... that makes sense. put the laptop on your lap. ;) i always find mine warms me up nicely.
i see him.
there we go. webber... well they were talking about him...
good plan :)
I forgot about that program
it's comedy gold :)
Are you sure, me? It not Lou built a little differently than you?
hehehehehe.
Well if you are so kind not to distrub Christine sleeping in the bedroom placing an overheating laptop on you lap is a good idea to get third degree burns to a very temperature sensative part of the male body. Your scream will wake up everyone in England....
Doubt it. I'm a heavy sleeper. ;)
Well, if me wants to conduct this experiment....I will not contest me's decision....
Better head off now to make sure I dont sleep through all of Christmas Eve. See ya!
night dom.
night Dom.
Night Dom
night dom.
I have a lot to do tomorrow so time I went to bed.
Good night all
i should be off too. we are off to an open house drinks party thing tomorrow lunch time, need to make sure i get up in time..
night x
see ya everybody.
Looks like the party's dying, I better split before I get stuck cleaning up this mess.
Bye everyone.
see ya jordan.
Where did you find the adaptor? I have a PDA with a similarly too small socket and would like to use different headphones with it. {Andy Taylor}
HMV in Nottingham. At the back of the shop there's a selection of adaptors. If you're anything like me, you'll need to get the assistants to help you find the right one, but they're very good at their job and figured out what I needed quite easily. They even saw the funny side of me using an £8 adaptor to connect some really cheap and tacky earphones... ...though they did suggest I give them a return visit when I wanted something better to listen with.
Here’s a thought - should we all meet up in the morning and go round as a group?
That sounds like a good plan. I'll discuss it with Dad - but I can't do so until tomorrow because it's a Christmas present.
do we think the autosport tickets are just too damn pricey? {me - some time ago}
I think it's a lot better value than the library conferences CILIP keeps suggesting that I attend. The most recent one they wanted me to do was £399 for a two-day conference, not including meals but including four lectures. And the £399 price was after a discount of over £200 for working in a public library...
So get the train, or park at the station {Andy Taylor}
If you are doing the latter, please please please remember to park at Birmingham International or Birmingham Moor Street. I'm not sure if either is cheaper than the NEC, but the car park for Birmingham New Street is the most expensive in the UK. Two years ago, it was £55 for four hours, and I doubt the price will have gone down noticeably since...
I meant Birmingham International. There are some cheap car parks in the centre of Birmingham, but you have to get there and then get the train out to the NEC, so not really much of a saving, if any.
Well my dad likes a spot of karting. I might put it to him and say I’ll go halves with him to pay for the tickets and the entry fee. ;) Since I’m working boxing day and getting triple pay AND new years day and getting time and a half pay. {Scott Woodwiss - }
The deadline of November 30th was back when it looked like there was enough interest to get all 20 seats filled. It looks like I've miscalculated quite badly. So if you want to enter yourself and your dad in, I would be very happy to enter you. I've modified the wiki accordingly.
(Note: anybody else who thought "This looks fun... ...oh no I missed the deadline" is also welcome to get in contact with me and arrange something. Even if I end up negotiating payments after the event or something, it's more important to me that the karts are driven than the forms being observed.)
do you have a current list of entrants? couldn't see one on the wiki.
How many people short are you, Alianora? I have a couple of friends who might be interested in coming along.
Also - Lou, isn't your dad a karting fan too? (HINT)
I never feel christmassy on christmas eve. {Dom}
I've felt Christmassy for the last two hours. Largely because the decorations are finally up and I've had the house traditional Christmas evening tea (a variety of cheeses on crackers).
erm no he isn't. but i asked Em is she was up for coming and she needs to get back to me to see if she can change her shifts but i think she is up for it, that might help me persuade him to let me come :D
wonderful news.
Oops. Do you think he might want to have a go anyway? ;) Late Christmas present perhaps?
I meant Birmingham International. There are some cheap car parks in the centre of Birmingham, but you have to get there and then get the train out to the NEC, so not really much of a saving, if any. {Andy Taylor - 5 comments ago}
Thank you for the clarification. Personally, I believe I will be using two trains and parking in the (free) car park across the road from my local train station, but this will be a very useful tip for people who don't have that option.
Looks like the station car park is £6 per day, so only saves a couple of quid :s
do you have a current list of entrants? couldn’t see one on the wiki.
In theory, the comment list in the wiki entry is the current entry list. In practise, some people either can't get the wiki working for them or have decided not to post themselves on there.
As far as I am aware, these people definitely are karting:
me
Steven Roy
Neil P.
patrick
Andy Taylor
Scotty D
There are still several "maybes", which I do not wish to comment on unless they actually confirm attendence. There have also been dropouts for various reasons.
So if anyone does want to kart and hasn't confirmed yet, feel free to talk to me and we can arrange something. And if there's anyone you want to persuade to come... ...persuade away :)
i shall berate ollie until he agrees.
:D your dents made me lol.
Thanks, me!
what i do?
Offer to convince Ollie.
