Surprise!! Don’t you just love surprises! I’m not totally sure how it happened (I’m looking at you Steven) but Gavin is a bit busy so it’s fallen to me to guide you through this lovely Wednesday. With this being the middle of the week, and tomorrow being Thursday you’d be forgiven for being sad at the thought the weekend was still another 2 days away. However, don’t worry despite Mr C’s love for new daily writers (sorry I’m not new), I’m sure I can find a few links to help you all get through the day smoothly;
- Let’s start off with a bit of Formula 1 related news that you may or may not have picked up on yesterday. One of Mr C’s BFF’s is making a comeback! No okay, not to F1, but Grosjean is soon to return to GP2 where he will be replacing Jerome d'Ambrosio at DAMS for the German Grand Prix weekend. So look out for photos of him, something for Mr C to look forward to then. Making an actual F1 return, Fairuz Fauzy will be jumping into the Lotus cockpit for practice on Friday. Not sure which of the two race drivers he will be replacing for that session but it will be worth keeping an eye on.
- Mr C has been working hard again to bring us some multimedia gifts, so if you find yourself with a spare moment or two you may like to check out Mark Webber’s lap of Hockenheim, I hear it looks lovely in HD too. Mr C has not only provided us with a lovely video we also have a brand new Aside with Joe to listen to! I can’t think of a better way to prepare for the F1 weekend!
- Also in Sidepodcast news the latest round of the character cup has started and this time it’s Lukeh’s BFF (Bruno) vs the Silver driver (Jaime) in a battle of, well erm character. Yesterday we saw Lewis defeat Tonio, who will be next? Vote here and have your say.
Right, that’s just about it for today, Steven is very kindly writing Sunday’s daily for me so I will leave you all in his capable hands for race day. I hope you all have a lovely day!
Hi Wednesday.
hello new day, hello new daily.
Just read that as "Mr C has not only provided us with a lovely voice.". Errr.
Do we not have a wiki page to sign up guest daily writers? I swear we do...
Apparently the line between day & night is called the terminator http://sos.noaa.gov/datasets/Land/day_night.html
but then there would be no fun in volunteering people...
oooooh!
( to bounce the conversation across from yesterday's thread: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/07/20/daily-20th-july-2010/comments/#comment-847725 )
Dusk or Twilight: Before [or After]
i've also got horizon, or arc. or stick with sky. thoughts?
I fixed my space bar!!
and now i must sleep, or Lukeh will be made that i missed my train cause i slept through..
night all! xx
You can just stick the names down anyways
Great daily Lou. Far better than I would have done even if it doesn't explain how important belly buttons are in sport
we're describing race conditions though. that would apply to malaysia might you.
Depends how pedantic you want to be
that should have been *mad...
i obviously need sleep.
Volunteering people is fun
it just needs to make sense really.
Night lou, fab daily x
Night Lou
Do you want night and day temps or not! ;)
i thought i'd leave that for you to put in Sunday's ;)
Stop giving her ideas
night lou.
What context do you want to use it in? Will there be a sentence around it or is it just in the coding?
It will be old news by then
Night Lou
I want to know about the belly button thing now
;)
Night from me too, see ya lovely people.
You almost want a sunlight % or something like that because it is the amount of light that matters. Time or Light are the most appropriate but neither is great
Right, Gillette's series range isn't around on their site
I don't care what they call it but I want a clear - gel-like product not a white opaque one
:(
Night RG
Night RG
We need an Andronov scale for daylight!
this comment really explains it best. i'm basically setting a background colour to blue or black and choosing a moon or a sun.
:)
Which sport you are good at depends on how high up your body your belly button is

Night to RG and to anyone sleepy enough to be heading off very soon :)
Is it like this http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/body-care/gillette-cool-wave-clear-gel-deodorant/
Yes, but I want it in a shop
That could get really confusing. It is 74 Andronovs hot, 36 Andronovs bright and there have been 7.5 Andronovs of rain
What's wrong with Amazon?
An equivalent, obviously
Better get home soon, it's about 80% Judith already
Then I don't see any problem with "sky".
I can't pick it up when I'm buying cereal, milk and eggs
They wereapoundeachin Asda last week
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/gillette-deodorant-cool-wave-clear-/694225
i just figured there must be a clever word to describe it. there usually is.
:D
I suppose sunlight really should be measured in Judiths
They still are at Asda.com http://groceries.asda.com/asda-estore/search/searchcontainer.jsp;jsessionid=lg5+9bJ6lrW25wRhegNUew**.oses4066-atg04?trailSize=1&searchString=Gillettedeodorant&domainName=Products&headerVersion=v1&_requestid=112260
I don't mind finding an alternative if it's being phased out
I want a gel based one that doesn't smell like a frenchman
I'm going to have to consider this over some Rioja
It was the last one tucked right at the back of the shelf [half price from £11]
Nicely breathed by now, I think
Steven: how have you allowed Lou to have not updated her blog since April?
This is unacceptable. A-levels are no excuse
says the man with no blog?
I blog, on a micro scale :)
Steven is the whip cracker, I expect more ;)
I will have a word with her tomorrow night. I have given her some suggestions for her photography blog that doesn't exist yet. Somehow suggestions are different from volunteering
Mr C, I've been looking but I can't find anything that describes both day & night except a Greek word Nychthemeron which means a period of 24 hours. The only other thing I can think of is using "Light" and then having "Sun" or "Moon" but it's not really correct. Sorry I can't be of more help.
so does lou
Good point. Have you considered a blog Bassano? There are a great many advantages to having one
But if I did have one, I would expect grief for leaving it dormant.
Especially if I were as talented as our young snapper
I will pester her tomorrow :)
What an awesome word
I have
It was a short process
She is in London tomorrow. She has updated her Flickr account to be fair with loads of great Goodwood photos so it is not as if sh has not been productive
So you just need a name to get it started?
What I think is even more unacceptable was that I discovered this evening that not only has lou not seen Back to the Future but Lukeh has never seen House. *Sits in rocking chair* the youth of today *tut tut*
everyone has been more than helpful. i just didn't want to miss an obvious naming convention due to lack of knowledge really.
for example, i didn't know pull-quotes were called pull-quotes when they were implemented on the site, so i called the variable "blockquote", which means something else entirely. was just making sure nothing was amiss before i carried on.
That is very true, all credit to her
How canyone not have seen back to the future
Both are inexcusable
[raises eyebrows in sympathy]
lou wrote a post in under two hours. we've been waiting over six weeks from something similar from you. plus... erm, she's in london tomorrow.
Not being born when it came out is no excuse in my book ;)
:D
Because it was made 7 years before they were born, maybe?
Well, I was being facetious [and you do have a point]
I was also avoiding tennis & continual football comments as well as failing to complete a single guest post
Do non-blogs need a name?
Having your own blog would mean you could get your views across without the football and tennis getting in the way
lou's my favourite today, i shall not here a word against her ;)
there was no football though. only in selected posts. it was awesome.
It was extremely awesome and nicely compartmentalized :)
She is Über Awesome, I will agree
My workflow is doohickey, it upsets The Force when I'm in LCLT. I don't mind staying away when folk are enjoying a unique event as the world cup. [as was often in the pub watching it]
the first week of the word cup was one of the highlights of my year so far.
I over-tweet in those instances :)
Well, I really must go & try this sleeping thing again. I actually have to get up in the morning as I've got a hospice meeting at 10am. I'm definitely reverting to my student days when anything that required attendance before lunchtime was considered early. Comment with you all later.
night janna
Best sleep wishes to ya
I wish I could be sleeping. So tired :(
Night Janna
and there's back-to-back races coming up...
I must be getting old. I've not handled the transition from 7's to Mon-Fri very well.
I seem to be getting less than 5hrs per night not feeling sleepy, for the past two weeks
Usually it really catches up with me
But after the back to back races there is a long gap hooray! And then there is 3 i don't have to stay up for because i will be AT them. Then japan and south korea which are afternoon races for me. So no staying up until brazil!
Hi again. I just watched the Battlestar Galatica remake again, the 'miniseries' or movie that preceded the main series. All 3 hours of it. :) Very good.
Hey Pat
I've got series one and didn't realise there was a preceding mini-series, it's been on my list of stuff to get
Have heard good things about it
this appeals to me (and likely only me): http://fontfonter.com/fontfonter?p=sidepodcast.com/blog/&fontgroup1=sans&fontfont1=dax&fontgroup2=serifs&fontfont2=typestar
choose a better/different typeface to read content on any site.
Definite must-see, you can't watch series 1 without seeing it.
Absolutely. I wasn't born when the Titanic sank but I know it did.
(bad example)
I think that's why I aborted that plan
Hearing "last time on..." at the beginning of Series 1, Episode 1 was odd. I switched off
So this is the shaving gel I use
http://www.kingofshavesdirect.com/Alphagel-Shave-Gel-Sensitive-PUK_AGELSEN/
I like that. There are some sites that would be very useful for
Yep. Shows the entire set-up.
I love the way it is shot too.
I use that too, though I switch a lot
The earlier conversation was about anti-perspirant gel
oh right
i wasn't born when back to the future came out but i've seen it about a million times :D
Amy, I think we've already established that you are not to be used as a benchmark for most things :)
Come to think of it, who here, is?
that can be established in four words: "From Justin To Kelly"
...
...
...
ah-ha! stuart is quite normal. he might be the only one...
?
actually... he introduced tremayning.
nope, not a sole.
Exactly. As you were
one of the geatest dvds i own, possibly one of the only movies whose opening paragraph on wikipedia says "it is considered to be one of the worst films ever made"
i will think of someone.
soul?
Someone who stopped for directions, once?
boo break is over, back to work and no eee :(
that's the one.
I thought we were including fish
I'm trying to think of terrible films but I've had some wine, which doesn't aid memory
from marillion?
He's normal? :)
oh yeah...
- Legally Blonde, though that seems to depend on gender
- Equilibrium
- Tape
I'm trying to think of non-obscure examples
a brief morning hello folks
Hi Leigh
What's the worst film you have ever seen?
Hi
Hi Leigh
I haven't seen any of the IMDB Bottom 100
Part of me is glad
Another part is disappointed
Irreversible
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irr%C3%A9versible
For the more easily amused (i.e. - me), Roy Hobson is out in force post-Toronto
:)
http://silentpagoda.com/blog/2010/07/20/willy-t-ribbs-report-toronto/
That's such an infamous flick, I will see it one day
The harrowing scenes make me put it off
I worked in a video store for four years and nothing topped that horrible film - it make me physically sick... really
I do love my art films, but that wasn't artistic or insightful - it was garbage. A sick flick for the sake of it
>:(
I tell a lie
Another Nine & a Half Weeks
That was pretty bad but that genre doesn't really bode well, artistically
For someone who worked in a video store as a teenager, I'm starting to realise I must've chosen well back then :)
There was that Rik Mayall one about the hotel. They tried to do the 'Bottom' TV series but in a movie and with different but similar characters. It was awful.
Worse than B*ise Moi
[which I really won't see]
Guest House Paradiso.
I actually paid to see that in the cinema. The only time I've walked out of one.
babylon? was that a film, i thought it was a tv show?
Hotel Paradiso
I loved the series too much to see the film
[the live show was awful, as was mighty boosh]
ahhhhhhhhhhh
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0202381/
Yes, that's it
Guest House Paradise
awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful....
Oh so it was the same characters... shows how much attention I paid it.
The TV series was funny, a bit puerile but that was the style of the time. Did not translate to a film at.all.
Although not the worst film ever, Star Trek 5 was a clear indication that William Shatner should never direct
I'm trying to think of something I walked out on, it's a very rare occasion...
:)
for me, lord of the rings.
Good concept, bad implementation
Agreed on directorship
Can't believe Vincent Cassel was in Guest House Paradiso - why Vinny, why??
Jaw = open
Not a Tolkien fan then?
Not seen it. Never cared for tolkien - it was all a bit boring for me
Shall I presume you only saw a portion of Fellowship.. only?
I liked them... but they were a bit long.
half of the first one.
I read the trilogy whilst travelling. It's a cliche but it made the films more enjoyable. Credit to Peter Jackson
He lost a lot of points for The Lovely Bones
The full versions came to some stupid like 20 hours - no thanks
That's all set-up. The next 9 hours were thrilling :)
FanBoi material but very, very good
About 11 I think..
I never read the books, their size put me off. Films are more manageable..
and hour of setup? that's bad storyboarding.
All three films with three / four discs each - i wasn't strong enough to ask the devotees
there was that dreadful "Kevin & Perry Go Large"
The Panic in Needle Park [1971]
Doesn't quite fit the 'new film in a cinema' rule I had in my head but I think it's the only one
7/10 on IMDB
That was funny, in parts
"I love you Eye-Ball Paul"
Most of it is extras and documentaries on costumes and set production and multi-commentaries
[The last group of DVDs I ever bought, with the Alien Quadrilogy]
I've no comeback - I buy all the Doctor Who DVD's and CD's
:o
There's a few pages of novels to get through
Credit to Peter Jackson who forced the studio from one film into 3
Dead media
#I'mWithMrCOnThis
back to the future was three movies. without an hour of setup.
Someone at work told me today they sold 150 DVDs for £80
That library probably cost them £2000
I bet he didn't even rip them
!
If you ripped them you'd have to find HDD space for them all.
I'm not saying they weren't entertaing [1 good, 2 bad, 3 great] but it's hardly the same thing
#FilmSnob
but why would they, they aren't HD.
I love the work that goes into them - truly amazing jobs and I have no problem picking them up as a result. As a sidenote, apparently classic Who sales are staying pretty steady mainly because of fandom's obsession....
:)
HDD space would pay for itself and change once you sold 'em
RIP to 700mb per film = 10% of a 1TB drive
Though, I did watch Revenge of the Killer Tomatoes! and it's not on my worst list :)
[ it was the sequel to Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! ]
Not that there's anyone here now who plays it, but here's the game scores for the week
http://toomuchracing.com/2010/07/21/tmr-game-week-26/
I walked out of the cable guy
As do I, but I refuse to dedicate real estate to them now
Fincher's Panic Room has some great extras for the film geek
I wish I'd walked out on The Truman Show
It would've ended better in my head
Ah yeah, good film rubbish ending
err... everyone walks out at the end of a film.
"walked out" meaning: left early
Not, exited after the credits roll
:)
well, at least Titanic 2 is coming out
Titanic 2
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1640571/
I think I need to chat to Alex [sorry, Judith] and maybe his friend Nick about Pirates of the Caribbean and it's sequels
what??
Looks a bit like "so bad it's good, in a bad way" material
I'd dismissed that
Mama Mia would've been top of the list
Spider-Man 3 was dire but if I was in the cinema I would've stayed and watched ALL the credits to see who approved it and hunted him down
I think I lasted about 22 mins
Just heard the best quote ever from tonight's Trackside.
Kevin Lee:
"It's better to be able to get out of a (racing) car and punch somebody, then to just have a crash."
Brilliant
:D
Sounds like a anti-Senna quote :)
But I like it
*an
[damn Rioja grammar]
Oooh i loved the truman show!
Sleep time. Wonder when I'll wake up, this week with no alarm has been an interesting mystery tour.
Here's Robin Miller's thoughts on Toronto btw, big support for Justin Wilson
http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/miller-open-wheel-musings/
Night pat!
Indycar:
Interesting post from 'Drive Hard, Turn Left' about the pickle Penske find themselves in with three drivers
http://www.drivehardturnleft.com/2010/07/what-does-penske-do.html
Interesting article regarding AT&T and Apple's relationship
[The US is rare for being an exclusive iPhone network]
When AT&T threatened to escalate the matter to its executives, Apple staffers said, "Fine, we'll escalate it to Steve [Jobs] and see who wins."
http://www.tuaw.com/2010/07/20/the-history-of-apple-and-atandts-marriage-of-convenience/
He, he
Leigh, are you aware of next month's SidepodPubbing?
[thought: must text Oscar from the 1st Aside event]
Haven't heard - what's the score?
I edited the wiki! It was very exciting
It's a combination of pre-Spa and general meet-up
International Sidepodfolk will be there, likely to be at The Southerner in Temple [blame Amy]
Tues 24th August

Hang on, hang on
Moto GP winglets?

The genie is outa control
Sounds good, should be there, but may need reminding
That, we can do
Beer will not be forgotten :)
As have I now [the new one]
Suspicion of semi-colons is to blame
anyhoo folks,
i'm going back to bed - see you later
:)
Night
I will do plenty of reminding, i am keen to meet as many sidepodfolk as I can because who knows when i'll be back? (answer: july 2012)
Did you ever apply for those Londoner's tickets?
Shh, am secretely thinking about SidepodRace 2011
I don;t think that is for downforce. More likely they are used as flow conditioners for the dirty air coming off the wheel. They don't look big enough to create downforce
Yeah, I get that
I just think we need the MIB to zap the aero knowledge from this decade
I think they need to start around 1968
There's a lot to be said for that, I think a little bit of aero promotes genius
Newey is this generation's Chapman
In 15 years time, safety will be so good they will deregulate F1 design again
#EternalOptimist
TIme for bed
Night all
Way past, me too
Ciao all
these typhoons are mean. it is not like it rains all the time, it only rains when I am out in the open
anyone up?
yeah. good morning :)
morning gavin
how does you be sir?
Good. Swimming was nice yesterday :)
sweet
just in from cycling - nice morning
Just saw the Brendan Hartley bit on Joe's - it's sad, but not unexpected I'm afraid
It's too hard for Kiwis to make it in motor racing I reckon. God knows what he'll do now ...
We went to a pier last night and swam, drank and had BBQ dinner. Very nice...
Indycar? He could go the way of Mike Conway - it's where the test drivers end up
Lovely
It's tough, but his results since he finished British F3 two years ago haven't been great. Another in a long list of disposed Red Bull drivers
:/
Yeah probably. I'm a bit miffed about it and TBH, another reason why I'm really starting to dislike Red Bull.
One wonders if they'll replace him with Mitch Evans next year......
Young, in need of sponsorship... yeah OK, perfect for Red Bull to develop, so he becomes wholly reliant on them. Then when he has one bad year they'll cut him loose and he won't know what to do.
I don't agree with Red Bull's decisions to cut these guys loose... why not keep them as reserve drivers or loan them out? Porsche have done that (to Audi, for example) and when Porsche return to Le Mans they'll have the guys to drive the car...
...because that would be sensible
Right, off to work
Back later
people should nut run young driver programs if all they plan to with them is to dump them unless their name is Seb ...
I agree totally. It makes them worse off in the end...
but then, may be they just did not like his hairstyle
my patriotic side says boooo
hard but not impossible, certain McLaren name come to mind. and then there was this awesome guy
heard Joe mentioning the French air traffic controllers again in the Aside. That does not seem to be the only problem the French airline industry has ...
Air France attendant held for robbing passengers
I thought he was very Red Bull?
That was the old days though - and that film was funny in an odd way... would rather not give my full opinion as it may offend though ;)
I have biking fanatic friend who simply had to make the trip to Invercargill. His life would not be complete without going there :-) and that is long trip even from this part of the world
It's a long trip even if you live in NZ ;)
I have family from there, it's a nice enough place :)
Morning :)
I'm excited!! Nick has said we can definitely go to Australia :D
*Provided you can get a visa
Taking you to another hot grossly humid city... i think he is doing it on purpose
Its anywhere near as bad as here!
Aussie Sidepodmeetup anyone? :P
Back everyone,
:)
where are you going?
PING -a-DING-a-LING
2010 German Grand Prix Preview
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2010/07/21/mark-webber-drives-the-hockenheimring/
I think the words "like India" were used.... After I already agreed to go. Not impressed.
could be worse. You could be coming to Canberra and its ***ing cold here at the moment. I would take humid over cold.
I like cold :) I think next time I'm insisting on a cold place holiday.
My parents spent all summer gloating how warm NZ was while we froze in Europe ... very much enjoyed turning the tables the last few weeks ;)
I want to go to Tasmania again... hmm i wonder if i can squeeze it in
I'm trying to convince Mrs Goat not to go on holiday to somewhere Stinking hot this year ... like hiking somewhere or something...
I like hot. Perhaps we all need to swap houses.
Im keeping mine!
It's pretty cold here at the moment tbh... It is supposed to be summer though. So?
So I gather you guys are heading to Brisbase then?
Yah in September
The Sunshine Coast, but i expect we will stay in brisbane for a bit
maybe fly somewhere for a day or 2, we will see
You what?? You're not getting me on one of those rickety old planes!
Sunshine Coast? I wouldnt be complaining about that!
I think Alison thinks Australia is a bit like crocodile dundee :D
I saw pictures taken like a month ago. It was rickety!!!
The whole country?
He is getting on a bit...
I believe it too... After Australia I think you should make Nick take you to New York and then you can run on people's shoulders on the underground.
:D
Excuse me while I got outside a shoo away the kangaroos
I had enough excitement with my Australian visa. You can forget the US :P
And put a shrimp on the barbie?
Geez you buy one thing online from them, and then it's Spamazon every day of the week in your mailbox!
Actually I am chopping veggies and making Italian. But if I had some shrimp....
Yeah.... I noticed that.
i loooove hot but I hate humid, so Melbourne summer suits me perfect :D
Oooh sidepodcooking! What are you making?
A "throw everything in there" pseudo bolognaise sauce kind of thing
Perfect :)
Hope so.
I think veggies should come pre chopped. I wonder if amazon sell them?
I have no idea what you were looking at but I can confirm domestic flights in Australia aren't rickety :D
Are you there while I'm in Europe? If so no Sidepodaustralia meetup for me :(
Middle of September to start of October
ahh, probably no nick and alison for me then.
booo!
I am still hoping Amy will springba surprise Spa ticket on me, so i might not be here either
my trip was planned first so it's your fault :P
mmm, good luck with that :D
Ahhhhh... Pet Shop Boys playing on the off - on one hand, I'm not a PSB fan at all; on the other, it's much better than the regular Radio 1 / Heart FM / Capitol Radio nonsense
:D
Or should that be
:-(
*off = office radio
Always :D
I hear Nick has a spare ticket for AD :)
Meat is "browned" onions are on. Mmmmmm smells nice!
tweet from karun:
points in rankings should be deducted for mentioning steve slater :-)
:) :)
Speaking of which, just finished listening to the James Allen on Talksport thingy. Wasn't too bad...
a glowing endorsement.
Hardly. It had Eddie Irvine, Adam Cooper and Chris Rea in the studio. F1Badger made a guest appearance and there were various interviews with Christian Horner, Nigel Mansell, Nick Fry and a couple of others... Decent talk but nothing special.
Hello! I'm waiting for lukeh cause for once in my life I'm early :) how is everyone today?
hey ya lou. are you sure you're early or is lukeh is simply more late?
bet 5live are cacking themselves ;)
Stupid big pot not being turned on. No wonder things weren't cooking!
I haven't decided what I want for dinner yet because I had a super huge lunch. I am watching Masterchef which doesn't help.
Just back from the Foosball table at work - we just got hammered
:(
er.. Well I got an earlier train that normal so I'm claiming this as me being early...
And I've finished drafting a long blog post I may need to cut into smaller posts. Bassano should not fear my blog will not be dormant for long.
I'm sitting in a French cafe at the station where everyone is speking well erm French, I'm wondering if i somehow got on the eurostar instead...
:D
Sleepwalk to St Pancras station??
no sleep walking, I'm meant to be here, but even the people walking past are speaking French. I love London.... Or Paris wherever I turn out to be ;)
Pondon??
:)
I just saw on twitter.... £80 for a lotus factory tour?? That seems a bit much!
right, after watching all the amazing masterchef food, i have decided on marmite on toast for dinner. #classy
:D
one of my friends I always used to go out for dinner with is arriving in Melbourne on Sunday for four days, and since I'm at work during the day we'll have to catch up over dinner. I'm hoping that next week will be full of lots of nice food :D
that sounds nice! Marmite is yucky though!
apparently NZ marmite is different to UK marmite but I've never tried yours so I'm not sure what the difference is :D
Are you making a list of things to eat while OS?
well you can always try some in a few weeks time. We hate it in our house but I have a tiny jar of it in the cupboard for when Em comes to stay :)
I am trying to, but at the rate I'm going I'd have to spend 24 horus a day eating.
:D
Doesn't leave much time for drinking
what a shame, you saw in Melbourne just how much I drink ;)
Hehe yes. Basano might be disappointed
I got half way and wanted to rip my ears off and run into a glass wall.
I'll steer clear thank you - am surrounded by sharp objects
that comment just made me giggle.... All the French people are now looking at me strangely.
It's not JA as such - I just can't stand Irvine or Rea
at my work ball I was rather tidly after a beer and a half :D
I shall report back with my progress at my work prizegiving this Friday.
you have a work ball and prize giving?? Sounds like school!
Oooh... no laughing near the french. It is a serious country with serious jokes!
we had a midwinter ball, then this week we have a prize giving, then next week there is some black tie industry dinner, then the following week we have a team dinner. four work events in four weeks might just kill me, I don't like my workmates that much
the main difference between this and school is that they're all just shallow attempts at giving staff excuses to drink an awful lot.
Wow. I think I went out for lunch at work.
Once.
wow!! At the prize giving are there rubbish vague prizes like the 'self achievement' prize like I was awarded this year?
In the two years prior to this I've been to the pub about 3 times after work on a Friday, and a bowling alley that one time. I don't know whats going on at the moment!
we don't know what the prizes are yet, I'll let you know. It's optional to attend, I'm only going for the finger food.
I would be worried about getting an encouragement or "can do better" award
;D we didn't get any finger food... Just silly boring speeches and the privilege of sitting in a boiling room for 3 hours... And I missed quali for that
Lukeh is here! Bye!!!xxx
ahh, high school prize giving. I still get my school song stuck in my head sometimes, it scares me. But in 7th form I did get the biggest trophy out of everyone :D
Lots of LG adverts too...
and further points down for sanjeev palar ... come on, that guy talks to himself :-)
Sanjeev Palar talking to himself
Oi!! (so do I.....)
:o
Umm...
most annoying man on sports TV today, I think. :D
hi all.
does this mean we get karun back on our TV, though? it's the next best thing to racing there...
I prefer him in the car. No Star Sports torture for me so far this year so I do not really care about whom they get and whom they don't :-)
we all prefer him in the car. alas, hrt doesn't, so i'd want to get the next best thing for him.
he will be back, same as Senna is and same as Yamamoto will be. But they will not all race in all races ... They may even share some space with Klien if he has any money in the pocket.... Money talks bull... walks unfortunately
I do remember Andrea Moda trying the same thing in the early '90's, but FIA told them to sort out their drivers or get out.
Alas, they are no more.....
Hello

Classic :)
Karun's at the Channel Tunnel..
All set for the train... Which we missed so went back in for lunch ! http://twitpic.com/27a1bx
mmm, flexiplus sandwich.
Reading the Daily Mail.... oh Karun.
Hey folks
The Daily Mail...!!!
gotta be -30 points.
What if it was the Times?
horrible horrible day for Karun, I wonder what is worse, loosing all these points in rankings or watching Yamamoto racing his car in Germany ...
-5
+5 if Karun were wearing a bowler hat
;)
he should loose points for buying a paper too.
That's mean!! They're perfect for travelling!
What if it were a horrible newspaper, but on an iPad?
I wonder how many tweets he'll get... :)
Already tweeted him!
so are eeepc's :)
balls. i have no idea.
My netbook only has about an hour of useful life when it isn't plugged in..
The eeePC is ffffffffffail for battery life. The Asus Aspire one has 4 hours on average.
That's a lot more expensive than 70p for a newspaper!
I have set myself a challenge to use mine for the next week so I can get used to it's tiiiiny keys, but then I remembered the VPN doesn't work on it so I'll have to Vaio for the F1 :D
what on earth did you do to it? ours lasts 6 or 7 and it was one of the earliest models.
a lot more useful too.
But do you not see how a newspaper could be more appropriate in certain situations? I'm sure it's more appropriate for me 90% of the time.
I suppose being on an electrical device can hide the fact you are reading the Dailly Mail...
I find newspapers impossible to read unless I'm sitting down at a table. I never quite mastered the reading them on public transport thing.
sure thing. they make good bedding for rabbits and it wouldn't want my chips wrapped in an ipad.
My eeePC lasts 90 minutes - even on Linux..
:)
I don't think swatting a fly with an eeeeeeeeeePC is a good idea either...
mine gets to about 2 hours, I have no idea what it did before I owned it :D
Dunno, always been like that, most I've got I think is 2hrs. HP.
ours lasts that long if we're video streaming. i'd take it back if that's all you're getting. you must be using windows?
Would you take an ipad or netbook to the beach?
I spend less on papers in a year than an electronic device would cost. While that's the case, I really don't see the point in buying one.
totally. some beaches have wifi now. awesome town planning!
Hehe, my point was screenglare, i guess the beaches of the uk dont have that problem!
and sand..
I was thinking sand in your ipad :S
i wouldn't use it as a frisbee.
and salt!
No, ubuntu netbook remix.
There's no way to keep sand off things on a beach. It's impossible.
I knew a guy who was a contractor in Iraq and he said that basically every few weeks, anything electronic had to be dismantled and air blasted because of all the sand...
very, very odd. 901 has better battery life than my mac.
Dunno. Not fussed about it really.
but i'm not four years old? i guess christine and i should go to the beach one weekend and live comment from there.
if it helps, in the past we've regularly taken the SLR camera to the beach. that has tiny little delicate moving parts (compared to ipads single button) and it's still working just fine.
hehe, you have to at least gor for a paddle too!
course.
Sidepodpaddling :D
So what do you do with the ipad while you're paddling?
iPaddling!
put it in my bag? i can comment from there if you want, but nobody reads a newspaper in the sea, so what would that prove?
:)
:P tee hee ... http://www.nomensa.com/blog/assets/uploads/2009/11/fold-paper-sea.jpg
I was concerned about theft! Or wetness depending on the answer :P
:)
christine will likely kill me for archive trawling, but the weekend that we bought our £1,000 video camera (containing many tiny moving parts and lenses), the first place we took it? the beach:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngmEVptKg20
we didn't bury it, or throw it into the sea and it still works today. it even outlasted honda f1. am more than happy to go film us doing something similar with ipads when we have a spare weekend, if that makes people happy.
I have kindled at the beach and it still works. Plus, no sunglare bonus!
♥
£1,000 on a video camera?
I miss sidepodcast video :(
The sand only really becomes a problem for me when ive been in the sea and it all sticks. then its on the towel and there is no escape then!
But iwas more concerned about screenglare, ive tried to take the ipad to the pool, but i could only use it under a towel, which looked a litle silly!
I want what he's having.
http://twitpic.com/27acfj
it was HD when not many others were. it's old now, still uses little tapes, but it survived the beach and it survived two camping trips with honda (one of which was a cardboard bread bin... just saying).
my point is, technology is resilient.
:)
i broke my first digital camera at the beach, but i broke my second one at the pub :D
Well fair enough because it's worth it if it's lasted until now I guess...
us too. new video is somewhere on the list after website updates... so, erm, look out for something around november.
talking of which, i should get on with something
video is just an expensive hobby. ask me in the pub one day how much lighting costs. i can't bear to type the figure.
What's this? Technology broken at the beach? Who'd have thought it :P
I clearly have no idea ;)
but also the pub.
....and back. What a meh lunch - I let myself down
:(
Anybody having problems with phones Internet Skype and Adsl going down in the uk??
No, but my back is killing me
:D
Yes actually it won't sign in on my phone
Found out why.
Telehouse North aka the largest Internet exchange in the world had a power cut which knocked out many Internet services, Skype included. Consequently there wasn't enough bandwidth to go around and no amount of QoS will help several hundred Gigabits a second of traffic going through a pipe.
I'd best go back to work now.....
I'm either too good or not good at all at this holiday lark.
Again I've done practically nothing, but haven't gone anywhere, other than a quick drive 10min each way to get someone to look at my car..
are you not bored yet? i'd say it's probably time to get productive around the time you start watching phil and holly.
Surprisingly I've not watched a lot of telly. The World At War was on yesterday, that's good.
I am a bit bored. But that's because I'm procrastinating a long to-do list. There's a pile of laundry to do, I started it yesterday...
I am in money-saving mode too though
Ah yes....
Replacing the car's heater fan motor is going to cost too much :(
But I'm trying to get it done so we can have aircon on a certain long drive in August :) although it would help if the bloke I saw today would ring back to confirm he can get the part..
Although it is a sunny day and I appear not to have any wine. Must fix.
Rock and roll.
I bring it on myself.... I've been saving since January basically! It's my fault though, I keep spending it on holidays :P
Hi all
Helloooooooooooooo :)
I saw some of the comments earlier on about Karun buying the Daily Mail. Looks like he received a few tweets on the same subject and his reply suggests that he got it as a freebie from the lounge he was in and had the choice of the Mail or L'Équipe which is written in a language he doesn't understand.
He used so many capitals it could be Tim has hacked his twitter
http://twitter.com/karunchandhok/status/19076077934
How are you? Did you get ducks yet?
:(
No. I keep an eye on my roadside ducks though! I think I should just take them. They'd clearly be happier in my garden than they are beside a dual carriageway!
I like working at home. But not so much when my wife is working at home at the same time. Don't get me wrong, I love her very much.
Unfortunately our definitions of an acceptable volume level are different. Rage Against the Machine can only be played LOUD, honey!
It would be a lot safer for them.
I think so. I should put a lead on the mummy duck. I'm sure the rest would all follow in their little line. It's adorable!
and there's the request to turn it down. :(
Oh it's you making the noise?? Then you have nothing to complain about :P
ahhhhhhhhhhhh.
I am not sure duck necks are going to last long with a lead. The basic idea is good though.
That upsets you? Were you looking forward to him losing lots of points?
They can sleep in the conservatory :) No naughty foxes!
BAH!
no. that was the penny dropping. the food bag is free too, i should have known.
I keep spending on silly things. I just went to the shop to get some wine and cereal and came back with that plus pizza and smoothies, just three days after getting other shopping.. Hand to mouth doesn't work for money saving. :)
:D
Ah yes. Food is my problem. I take cash out each week and put it in a tub. I can only buy food with money from the tub otherwise I end up with all sorts at home....
Tweet of the day from Adam Cooper?
Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg visited a Mercedes factory today, that must have been interesting for them.
I knew it! Australia is like crocodile dundee....
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10611973
Food... and alcohol..
Good idea with the tub.
Quite a few tweets flying around today about another Pitpass screw up. Seems they have had to post a retraction to a previous slightly libelous story about Alan Donnelly.
Oh dear. How sad. Never mind.
:)
i like that guy only knows two places in the world. the pub and the zoo. he just bounces between them.
Ah I don't drink at home which has made things much easier for me :)
Evening peoples.
she lives!
Hello
I finally managed to get the wardrobe level. I call this a productive day.
tyre lessons from lucas:
Hardest - Pros: very consistent during race. Cons: difficult to warm up, low grip level. To consider: how hot weather will be.
Softest - Pros: high grip 1 lap, easy to warm up, good for the start. Cons: high wear, might overheat, slow long run. To consider: track grip.
That sounds like proper work
I read somewhere else that Kubica thought the soft tyres may not even last a lap
Evening.
I have now done my ironing, I'm quite pleased to have done something productive. :)
Lady Laney went to Brands Hatch (I think on the Saturday)

Whoever starts 11th provided the race is dry is in with a huge chance of winning.
I was there on sunday too!

Cool!
Yeh, was scary... I am glad my mate decided that Druids was the best place to see action in the leon cup... how wrong he was!
What's the worst film you have ever seen? {Comment #121}
At the cinema, it was Beethoven's 2nd. It's the only item of visual media I've seen where I've cried out of boredom and frustration - and I was in its target demographic back then!
On the TV, I've seen lots of films where I've walked out before the end of the first scene, so I couldn't really name one.
Viva F1 quiz in 23 as hosted by me: http://www.vivaf1.com/chat.php
I haven't seen any of the IMDB Bottom 100 {Comment #124}
I may have seen some of Troll 2 and Son of the Mask. I think they were in the "films I saw on TV and walked out on quickly" category. Catwoman looked vaguely interesting (saw part of it on the TV at the weekend while eating dinner, but was no match for the LMS I had on my computer at that point).
another heikki roadtrip: Starting road trip to Hockenheim, quiet roads 470km to go, bit late night but I like driving at night so no problems...
I want Christmas to be here. Is that weird... I don't even like Christmas.
;D we didn't get any finger food... Just silly boring speeches and the privilege of sitting in a boiling room for 3 hours... And I missed quali for that
ahh, high school prize giving. I still get my school song stuck in my head sometimes, it scares me. But in 7th form I did get the biggest trophy out of everyone :D {Comment #341}
I have fond memories of my sixth form prize-giving, even if there was no food at all - it was quite brief and about a third of the year (including me) won something :)
Not many in the quiz tonight..
Itis weird
I justsat downto eat. I keep forgetting it
ahh boo. time for some tweet plugging.
:( Oh well.
I'm eating at the computer as always :D
when my food actually bothers to cook..
Looks like he received a few tweets on the same subject and his reply suggests that he got it as a freebie from the lounge he was in and had the choice of the Mail or L'Équipe which is written in a language he doesn't understand. {Comment #445}
Once I ended up reading the Sun because someone had left it on my train seat. I would have been bored stiff if it hadn't, by sheer coincidence, been the week with the 2009 F1 season preview supplement. Still didn't dare admit having read it to my parents...
Not many in the quiz tonight.. {Comment #488}
Following via Notepad without logging in, like last time I did it.
Hullo guys :) sorry I can't quiz tonight :(
I want Christmas to be here. Is that weird... I don't even like Christmas. {Comment #486}
Maybe you just want the year over and a new, better one to appear?
No worries, easier to mark and all that ;) Good day?
No :) I'm having a lovely year :D
great day thanks, just waiting for train now. Inception is quite a jawdropping film... Lou will confirm I'm sure that I was genuinely speechless for a while afterwards, just a fantastic film.
What film was it?
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/07/21/character-cup-2010-round-1-felipe-massa-vs-kamui-kobayashi/
inception! It says in the comment :)
You expect me to read what you write? :D
Dragons Den
When did Peter Stevens become a professor?
PlanetF1 are carrying a story that HRT are to buy the Toyota 2010 car for next year. Could running Yammoto be a sweetener to the Japanese Giant?
how is yamamoto a sweetener? i suppose, like a sweetener, he leaves a bitter after taste.
there was talk about that when he replaced senna, james allen mentioned it: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/07/08/first-2010-driver-change-yamamoto-in-for-senna/comments/#comment-836518
to answer the original question... i have no idea :)
Interesting. I would think the only reason they are running Yamamoto is because he has sponsors putting cash in. If they were trying to impress Toyota they would be running someone with a connection to Toyota
Oh.my.god @ inception. amazing amazing film
hiiii!
Hello. Lukeh said it was a reasonably good film
it was just... stunning. he genuinely couldn't speak after it.. was the most quiet i have ever seen him ;)
Dear God please don't bring back Nakajima!
At least Nakajima scored some points...
It won't happen. Toyota want to sell what they have they don't want to spend money putting drivers in them
Shame - he was not that bad and had a great character!
Could be win win - get money from Yamamoto and win brownie points from Toyota for using their Japanese driver.
Karun has taken it very well (rather better than Senna).
I am sure Toyota are aware of the flack Honda got when Super Aguri went bust and Sato lost his seat. Why would Toyota do that to themselves?
He didn't get just a few hours notice after having spent the day walking the track with his engineers.
wha...wha....wha.... what have they done to the brawn?....
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=5005241&id=79511407410#!/photo.php?pid=5005246&id=79511407410&fbid=411603307410
I'm not convinced. I thought he was a disaster zone. Can't say I ever noticed a personality.
They have got rid of that awful highlighter pen colour
where is Jon.. he said they had an actual Brawn GP in Shov's office... if so that means this is Rubens car.. so that's okay.
#sorrylukeh
it was at goodwood wasn't it? nick was driving it?
doesn't Jenson have his chassis?
His first full season with Williams he was not too bad, his second season was not good and Nico made mince meat of him - but then he is doing that to Schumey
would it be the same one?... if it is then it's still Rubens car and i don't mind :)
no. Merc have it.. they aren't giving it to him (or so i read somewhere)
he won he case against them
did he? I should really keep up with the news. that's great news!! :) go JB.
would they not have it hidden away somewhere, so that it can be exhibited in the future?
but I mind hugely - its been all mercedesfied - yuck! Please bring back the highlighter pen!
It should be in front of Lewis' car in their exhibit thing.
It's not in 'shovs office', its in the main office which is huuuuuuuuge
Weirdest episode of Dragons Den ever. Some people should not be allowed out alone let alone appear on TV and make themselves look like morons
i have a blog post about something along these lines. if it was finished i would plug it :(
well.. i'm calling it shov's office cause he works there :D hehe but okay :)
Hmmmm...
"In the face of legal action, Brawn ultimately decided to supply a 2009 Brawn car to the now McLaren driver." - http://en.espnf1.com/mclaren/motorsport/story/20860.html
Did you see it or are you still at work?
Scrap that you obviously haven't seen it or your reaction would have been a lot stronger
I don't think he got his though, from the sounds of that.
also, i would be very surprised if it was just "jensons car" and "rubens car", they may have started the season like that but its highly likely that the used each others chassis during the season
I don't watch television live really so no I haven't seen it. I'll probably watch it tomorrow night :P
Lou,
Did you see this comment after you went to bed last night?
http://sidepodcast.com/2010/07/21/daily-21st-july-2010/comments/#comment-847776
The contract was kind a clear bit mean of Mercedes not to honour it! To think I still support one of their drivers!
Make sure there is nothing breakable within reach
ah he got one :) yay for him :)
at least he won't paint it grey (probably)
so do i.
go Heidfeld!
Jenson used the same chassis the entire year.
i wouldnt be so sure.
He said he did. And Rubens needed a new one. You think they were lying?
I know they went through very few cars because of a supposed lack of money
Actually it was Nico I meant, still think Nick and Nico would be an awesome team and they might actually catch Ferrari!
I don't think they were lying, but i would be surprised if they only used the one monocoque for the whole season.
that is a good point, i do, however remember reading that Rubens got the third chassis in or just after Valencia.. because Jenson was confident in his. So they retired Rubens chassis and Jenson's did the whole season... i swear they made a huge thing of this?.. but you're right.. it is however easier for me to have 'jenson's car' and 'rubens car' :)
I think they were really missing the $$$
My understanding is they only used three full cars the entire season, Jenson one and Rubens two.
Fernando used the same chassis during 2006. I have more reason not to believe that ;)
yes. i have a blog post i'll probably end up publishing in the next few hours that i wrote on the train. :)
hehe nahh he likes yellow remember... he had a helmet livery dedicated to the colour ;)
The same one Button used last year?
i forgot to say this, but...i saw a highlighter on mr brawns desk ;)
yaaaaayy!! yellow ftw :)
I did tell him you had done a lot of Flickr stuff from Goodwood and he decided that it was wrong to have a go at you because of that.
heh noooo. I meant the R26, but there is more room for debate surrounding that, in my opinion.
oh and i also love that mr c stood up for my lack of blogging.
#thanksmrc
When they started the season I think both drivers had yellow paint jobs and I thought it was very supportive!
:D
yeah they did. it was originally to show their thanks to the team. then Rubens swapped between the two all season. Jenson had his special silverstone helmet but apart from that he had the yellow one.
i think people should only be allowed to complain about other people blogging when they've done some themselves.
:)
As I am daily writing, is there anything anyone would like included?
Who is writing Monday's Daily?
i was all set for something awesome, but the poll thing delayed me. what time are you sleeping tonight chapie?
That'd be me.
I will probably be around for a while yet.
what's the cartoon thing that spins around fast? that's how fast i'm coding.
back in one hour.
I'm a bit scared to post this, but here's the spot the difference

I wondered if I could get a mention in for my Wedding Anniversary? 7 years.
that fast! ;)

Oooh goodness. Congratulations!
Oooh, sure. Shall note it down so I don't forget.
Congrats :)
thank you :)
congratulations!
:) @TomasScheckter
going to hit some golf balls. i made special balls with tagiliani face on it. i hit hit ball 50 yards futher than i ever hit.
gotta love that. i used to be rubbish at golf, until my coach said; "imagine the ball is your least favourite teacher"...after that i did pretty well :D
i've just realised when the film finished today people clapped... i've never had that before in a cinema... i'm wondering if that's normal for London?.. or places that aren't my home town... or if everyone liked the film that much..
No it's weird! The only time I've seen it was with twilight and we all know what twilight fans are like... ;)
oh dear... never had it with twilight before! (am forced to see those films).. but even i felt like clapping at the end of inception. truly remarkable.
There was also a lot of excited shrieking when the man took his shirt off. And no, not just the teenagers :S
in the latest film?... all i was interested in was how rubbish the green screen was.. so.... awful. i was so angry by it's rubbishness my friend got angry with me. Apparently it doesn't matter if it looks awful cause it's twilight and i should love it for what it is
:s
Hmmmm I've never seen either film in its entirety. But yeah in the latest film. Proper odd.
that sound familar. I hope I never have to watch them :)
there are 3 of them i think?.. all awful (imo).. i don't understand why people love them so much.. and lucky you not having seen all of them...
Oh I see is the 3rd one out? In that case I mean number 2. I work in the cinema no longer :P
3rd one is out... yes. i take comfort in there only being one book left.. which means one more film till they stop (hopefully)
Hello again :)
are you home?
I was thinking this on the way home, I'm not surprised though. A film that good deserves a round of applause.
I'm still in awe about it!
I am!
:(
#stupidgeography
how tangled are your headphones?
*shudders to think*
is james still around?
not tangled!!
...yet.
oooooh Alison! you'll understand this.. i nearly
stolebrought home a duckling today... it can't have been more than a week or two old.. so cute!I am :)
yaaaay!

Awwww
Alison is planning to kidnap 6 ducks

She actually did.

no milk, no teabags, noooo!
:( this should never happen.
sounds like you're in hot water.
awwww Alison, do it!! if they don't like your garden they will fly away :)
ooh just after i posted that the milkman walked past my desk. coffee time!
*groan*
Aaarrgggghhhhh Rubens car has been mutilated again :(
Can someone tell me if they can see anything at http://www.feederseries.net/ it's not working for me :(
you weren't meant to see that! stop comment trawling! :)
Nothing there...
gah. last time i upgrade wordpress
After goodwood and hearing the car I was going to give them a chance and they do this! again!
Nasty mercedes. :( why can;t they just leave the awesome livery on the car? It's not like the Brawn name has gone off too another team...
that is brilliant.
If they could fly she wouldn't have to worry about them getting squished by a truck
phew! aaaaand relax.
it might be the same one....
Clean white page
oooo! *sits and waits for daily*
hehe you deserve it.
I wish I sent Jon some tipex and highighter pens sooooo much now
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Brawn has a highlighter (keep reading the comments)...
Noooo a mummy with 5 babies about that size. They live beside a dual carriageway and I caught them trying to cross it once :S :S :S
My plan was to kidnap the mum and the babies would just follow in their little ducky line.
or.. you catch the babies put them in a cardboard box and the mum will follow :)
Go ross!
Ooooh I really want to. I think Nick would be cross. I already had a serious talk from both Nick and my mum about why it would be wrong to crash my car avoiding ducks in the road.
so you shouldn't swerve to avoid them?.. that's mean :(
If you do decide to crash, can you twitpic hte insurance papers;
"Reason for incident;
Avoiding ducks"
Kill ducks or you die crashing? hmmm, i wonder which one i'd choose
I already did, that's why they said it! :P
OMG
You don't swerve to avoid animals. you could kill yourself or someone else.
and you're not dead.. and didn't kill or harm anyone... then you did the right thing. :)
you shouldn't swerve, but you're allowed to stop and let them by.
OMG!!!
But.... duckies!!!
or death?
fair enough.. i didn't mean it like that. don't worry i'm not going to go crashing into people. i suppose the only time we ever meet animals are on quiet country roads and there is usually plenty of time to break. - thank god.
Lou don't forget those little red nose birds you saw as well
If you kill the duckies they will never know. If you kill you the duckies will be traumatised
red nose beak ducks...
Oh I don't know. I do know they were babies though.
I didn't swerve. I was overtaking a bus on a dual carriageway and was going to pull back over in front of the bus, saw the ducks and stayed in the lane I was in. It wasn't dangerous. I then saw them run crazy fast out the way of the bus.
I have since seen them playing on the other side of the road. I'll be angry if I see them trying to cross again!
cake or death? :)
sorry but that comment just reminded me :)
and.. what are they called? :)
Comic Relief birds :)
me too!
so close. i'm sure you mean moorhens ;)
