Hello everyone, what a lovely day it is today. Don’t you think? Not only is there plenty of racing on today, but in less than a weeks time F1 is back! Surely that’s something to celebrate. This time last year I was looking forward to going to the wonderful Spa Francorchamps circuit, and now I’m busy preparing to go to another great track – Britain’s very own Silverstone! If anyone else is heading there for a spot of World Series by Renault action look out for me, and any sidepodcast stickers. Do come over and say hi if you spot me.
On with some links for you all then, firstly it doesn’t seem right to move on with a new daily without mentioning Stuart’s epic questionnaire of a post yesterday. Please remember to check it out, and once you’ve come up with your answers send them to stuart at chainbear dot com.
Lukeh has some great posts for us to check out too. A post on muse, and a post on F1 and the BBC. Do take a look, they’re fascinating reads.
Rob Smedley was on the radio yesterday, if you missed it check Christine’s post for some of the gossip you missed and his and Lucy’s amazing work for charity.
Oh and look out for a possible ‘PING’ in the next few days as Mr and Mrs C recorded a brand new debrief yesterday.
Lets move on to some fun and interesting links then;
• Cute animal photos are the best. Squirrels are adorable, really they are.
• Typography is cool. It just is.
• Planning a trip to Stuttgart any time soon? If so it may be worth visiting the rather beautiful looking Porsche museum. Wow!
• If you’ve ever watched the film Man on Wire, you’ll be aware of the beauty of Tightrope artists. If, like me, it fascinates you, take a look at this short video on more fearless people walking on a rope meters above the ground.
Last week I introduced you all to a rather fun musical game, and well, it just so happens I’ve found another one for you. Build a street system, add plants, houses and lights. Place your cars down and hit play! It’s great!
That’s just about it from me for this daily, I hope you all have a lovely day!
long day today/tomorrow. so sleep for me, but have a great day everyone. i'll try tweet from the track if there is signal :) x
Hello new daily
Night night!
Night Lou. Have a great day at Silverstone
ahhh Isle of Tune is so much fun. Played with it a while back and promised not to spend much time making a song, of course, reality had other ideas. May have to spend time with that tomorrow when I'm less sleepy :)
a.mazing!
I love that Porsche museum
This Isle of tune is very annoying addictive. I got a decent three drum baseline going by no more cars to play with.....
I just managed to make a road using each loop once. I am now waiting to see what happens when I have a car crash at a junction
heeh!
I think I have just composed a fabulous piece of music. The trouble is on each lap the cars get out of sync so I can't repeat it
While I was posting that comment one of my cars caught up with another and is now tailgating it. How did that happen? They were 10-20 seconds apart before
Hey folks
I don't know if anyone has seen this yet, but it is simply the most brilliantest thing I've seen all week
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQPhgvVOGHY&feature=player_embedded#!
:)
Never seen anything like that before. I thought they were going to start then have a huge pile up on the oil he was complaining about
That I imagine, is in the sequel tape...., right ?
"When Oil Attack 2"
Massive respect to Phil Ward for taking action like that - man enough to stand up and tell it like it is.
Was not that one of the short stories in one of those "Creepshow" Horror movies? Think it was the second on with the floating tar attackign and eating some teenagers on a raft...
Indeed
Someone somewhere is bound to have made it at some stage
I love that he also races in his own series with cars he builds too
:)
Found it. It is called Creepshow 2: The raft. One of three mini-stories in that movie... Not really all that great.
I might give it a miss
;)
Is that the one with Bernie or the one with Flav?
Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....................................
Oh, that would be the straight-to-video prequel, Creepshow 0, also known by its European title of the FIA.... :P
I thought it was called "Max"
I admit that it would not rate highly on Bassano's top 1000 films of all time, But who knows what ends up on Christine's film watch....
what??
Pretty much
Sounds like it has muppets in it
but... i... wha?
Touche.
I'll stick the kettle on.
:)
FInd him a book on html5 to calm him down

I admit that it would not rate highly on Bassano's top 1000 films of all time, But who knows what ends up on Christine's film watch....
Sounds like it has muppets in it
No but I think you guys have an expression for "stupid people" starting with a "m" and ending like muppets, there's four of them in that storyline...
heh. i thought f1 drivers had too much say about conditions...
I'll have a look for one now
In Ireland, we call idiots muppets
Here too. Hence the comment
Oh right. I thought it might have been a different word, such as "mappets" or "mippets" even
Maybe I am thinking of maggots, but close enough....
In Ireland, they're called "becketts"
;)
I shall go to the Abbey, to pray that I can find the strenght to put up with your Silverstone realated puns, and come up with my own...
Do you need to go over the Bridge to get there?
:)
It rained today, so you may need to get your Wellington boots on to go Straight down there
;)
You need a Wing and a prayer to find it.
You may need top ask for directions at the Village
He is obsessed with planes so he will probably end up in the Hangar
I believe he got there because he was a Stowe-away
#clutchingatstraws
Cheaper than Club class
I am a pilot. We have an Osprey. Lou is my co-polit if not God. I plan to of over Vale if not over hill. I shall ask fo forgiveness for all you sins, as much as my responsibilites weigh apon me like a stowe, but now to I resist teh urge to cCub you? :p
That ends with Club you, not cCub...
Used to be so fast drivers often said cClub. Not now
In fact, he was so fast, even the Copse couldn't catch him
#cheatingabitnow
:D
And here I always wanmted to call that corner Corpse, cause you always knew that the Maggots was next in progression....
:D
i am so glad we stuck to Silverstone. I thought for a second we were going to laps(e) into using corners from other tracks or random racing terms
You maggot! fly off to the Chapel, will you?.
Darn. The Liquor cabinet has been cleared out! Off to teh breery.... Bye everyone.
Love the music island link Lou, it's awesome
How well do you know your Formula 1 history?
The book That'll be the Day: 365 F1 Stories takes a look at significant moments or quirky happenings on this day in Grand Prix history. Can you guess what event the following describes?
Morning guys :)
Good morning, beginning my epic trip home. I've just said bye to Alison,
First step, train from
Liverpool to London!
Today I'm spending my afternoon working on a few issues with my blog. For me the biggest issue I have is the fact I don't like that, when I'll use someone's image, sometimes I'll forget to include the credit. It's not for any reason except sometimes you just forget so that's my priority, getting something working that reminds me to do that. Plus there's other theme related issues I'm working on like the mobile theme too and incorporating a few new things but it's good fun when you're sitting out the back on a sunny day doing this :)
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/f1-debrief-nerd
woohoo!
I love silverstone. :)
hey lou. good day then?
For anyone who fancies listening to Webber at the cricket... http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/tms
Yaaaaay it's confirmed BBC3 are showing the entire 2 hours of muse's headlining slot next weekend at Reading
#bestweekendever
mum and I have walked the track so far. Goodness Its great here. No idea if my pics are great but am just enjoying it. :) can I live here?
A debrief. What a great find when you check in with the internet
Spotted anyone you know?
I think I bumped into Mr Di grassi... but it he isn't here he has a look alike. He was running didn't get a pic :(
if he isn't here... even
I am not sure if he is there or not
He tweeted 20 hours ago and didn't mention Silverstone
Morning everyone. It's raining here in Tundraland, so a perfect day for Giggles Radio.....
... Darn.
ahhhh then he has a look alike. Finally seen the f1 car, could not have been in a better place! Yippeeeeeee!
yay!
He is using that kid as an excuse not to do shows
Fantastic
:D But seriously, boo to no shows.
We need a petition to get him back
Someone should make a petition to set up this petition
Shouldn't we call for people to attend a meeting to form a committee to research and agree the wording for the first petition?
Debrief with Isle of Tune in the background is awesome
heh!
A new Shelfari discussion: http://www.shelfari.com/groups/86343/discussions/387016/What-are-your-thoughts-on-the-price-of-books-
Send Kai over as a babysitter. After class(es) of American students, just one kid would be a walk in the park for her.... :p
:)
Enjoy a little something from the Sidepodcast back catalogue.

But how many people should be on the committeee, and and how many people would bee need to make a forum stand?
Looks like Lou has found herself a new home to live at

:)
yay!
check the sign behind me closely... may need a better quality pic but hopefully you'll see that I made a tiny improvement....
Is it the bright square in the corner of the sign? :D
nooooooooo way!
yep.. :D subtle.. kinda..
yes way :)
yay Lou!!! :)
♥
See, I wasn't lying when I said you were awesome ;)
Hehe it was missing all those little stickers from when JB was winning for them. So it seemed rude not to :)
Hey folks,
had to be done. Did check, they are easy to peal off, no lasting damage :)
Ping-a-ling --> "Chaos, Bound by Order"
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2011/08/21/chaos-bound-by-order/
they are. only had an issue on an ipod, because it got hot and melted the glue.
Ross Brawn will turn up at Spa saying the team couldn't focus on developments following their return to the factory Monday morning thanks to this sticker distracting the whole factory :)
:D
:) I have a few more to show you but they are on my nikon and I was too excited to wait hours till I get home
so happy today. :) I don't even think the 2 hour journey back will lessen the day.
:D it seems right that the first f1 factory I see is brackley :)
McLaren is only a minor detour on you route home
oh good. I was just thinking about that yesterday. :)
its a even more of a minor detour on my way to uni... lol
:)
So, how is everyone today?
:)
Alive, I hope.....
had no idea that was going on today?
ferrari just tweeted about it: http://www.ferrari.com/English/Formula1/News/Headlines/Pages/110821_F1_A-Ferrari-on-the-streets-of-Rotterdam.aspx
bad promotion?
First I knew about it was the earlier comment
Good stuff
We try. Do not hold your breath, for anything different..... :P
red bull madness!
http://yfrog.com/ked4ufzj
love it.
Hello!
After my train being re routed, the signals failing, and the bit if the tube I needed being shot, I have made it to the airport and have beer!
Any flight trackers out there I am on ba109
ace sir!
Really?
I really need to learn how to read. I thought Nick was on a Bf-109, (They had some two-seater models) was thinking to myself lucky bugger..... For those who are wondering what kind of aircraft at bf-109 is/was....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bf-109
I had no idea the Messerschmitt 109 had Bf in its name
Despite Lou's best efforts to stake out the factory, Sam Bird escaped and also did a couple of demonstration runs in Rotterdam
Best check with Alison first
Agh! There was a sign for working just now! I screamed 'mclaren!' Mum responded 'no! Not today' :D
You've had a taste of one F1 factory visit and now you want more :)
That sounds like a promise to take you another day
Ah yes, Alison, we have a variety of options ranging from the shotgun loaded with rock salt pellets, prefect for minor crowd control or spouse control to the ACME coroporation "Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator" Anti-planet lazer cannon for maximium overkill.
The early models where built at Barviarian Flugzeug (hence BF) before Willie took over the company and called it Messerschmitt. If you really want to get Technical you can say Bf 109's to the Dora model and Me-109 from the Emils up to the H models, and the navalized T model.
that's what I said :)
It want working, it was most defiantly shot!
I don't think that would have made it!
Apparently the promotion was not too bad - the organisers have just announced that 600 000 people turned up to watch which is a new record. I bet Marc Gene is regretting reversing into the barriers even more now.
interesting f1 crossover for jessy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc-F5Heatjk
It leaves at 21.40
... More beer :)
I should add my fav beer, blue Moon has made it to the uk!
Eventually it would have. Would have required a few drop tanks, and refuelling stops, but hey when you consider the total time from airport to airport, you would be surprized at how little time would have been lost.
Like everything else there is a lot more to it than you first think
:D
oooh, might be watching a film. can you delay the plane by an hour?
That is an incredible crowd
It would be ironic if the film is "The Battle fo Britain"
No, but I am pretty sure we won't have got their in an hour ;)
true. don't leave european airspace before 11 then :)
Evening
Hail. Jackie.
The Jessica shoot is definitely interesting with the Tag partnership. Wonder when the next part will be up?
Hi Jackie,
Fun today?
:)
Much yes, thanks. Met up with Pat and @kimstermagnum, never quite caught Lou though
LOL I feel like Julius Caesar now
I think Lou may have been out having fun with her camera. Shame I couldn't make it up today though.
I am a bit burnt though, wasn't particularly hot but you all know silverstone and the weather-beaten look, either that or it's my fair celtic skin that just fries in the heat
Yes I think so, saw her tweet a few times and everytime Pat asked where she was we seemed to be at the opposite end of the circuit. She should probably be about home by now.
Lucky you. Funny how that guy has more lines in Antony and Cleopatra than in the play of his own name....
There was talk of doing LMS at Silverstone on the Sunday of Monza
Yeah she's nearly home I believe :)
Shakespeare isn't my forte I'm afraid, just et tu Brutus and beware the ides of march, that's about all I know
That would be great, but you will totally need a small radio receiver, because the LMS category is quite large.
Silverstone commentary normally operates on the lower bandwidth.
Bet she had fun though, you could get right into the paddock. We saw Romain Grosjean but he was under a motorhome canopy having lunch so didn't want to take his picture since it seemed a private area
Well at the moment it sounds great but it's Monza... might have to see what the weather forcast says, if it's rain the F1 has it
:)
So have you all had a good day here?
Even although the Dutch don't have any current F1 drivers there is plenty of interest. Jan Lammers, Ho Pin Tung and Robert Doornbos were all there driving something.
There is also free access to most of the route which also helps crowd numbers.
In Julius Craesar, as Craesar, that's about all you really need to know. This is from a guy with a surname of Allen that got stuck with mark Antony after the English teacher said that if there was no volunteers I am going to down the roll alphabeticially and you pick the character you are going to read.
I speed read to Acr 2 scence 3, Antony did not even show up in the play at all at that point.
2x 200 line speeches during exam week later.......I hate shakespeare..
Nice. I relaxed for once. Just got a couple of blog posts in under the radar.
Of course, Tung is in IndyCar action next week at Sonoma.
Yeah it's been lovely. Watched a bit of tennis, have done a lot of admin work on my blog which seems to have worked and just generally relaxed :)
Ooh, must check what's on the F1 blog week agenda for today
Oh, do you mean this post?
#pluggyplug ;)
Have the Ho ping puns been declared off-limits yet? :p
Thanking you :D
I am Ho Ping so
They don't get an official green light until 3.17pm (UK time) on Thursday.
I have found a link to the local TV coverage of the Rotterdam event. If it is not geo locked, Gene breaking the rear suspension of the Ferrari is at 11:23
http://tinyurl.com/44ko9bl
I am Ho Ping Tung has the longest ever carreer in F1 so that we can maximize his punning potential.
No I am not calling Tung a star driver, more like a Patrese type driver.
Embarrassing.
It's not geo-locked
I am now convinced that Ho Ping Tung is the future of F1 racing. how can a chmapionship team not have him on board is beyond me. Not for any racing ability, but he is a spnours dream just think of him on TV plugging away at the viewers.
"I am ho ping you listern to Sidepodcast" for example.....
The guy is sponourship gold I tell you.
I can't get it, greys out the video control when I click
Ping--> "Changing Faces"

Odd

Ehhhhhh...
If you see a sign for Manchester turn round
Farewell uk, you are very nice but far too wet, back to the sandpit for me!
they were going towards dover... not the f3.5 cars btw... they are clios. Right just done home. Time for some Chinese food.
Good to hear you're home all safe and sound. Can't believe those Renaults caught up to you though! I know they've been busy racing on a track with adrenaline pumping but... :)
Heard you got pushed over, you okay?
Stuck at the airport because a tractor is broken
#BlameBassano
Hi, I was just looking to see if you'd taken off. I was a bit confused when it said no.
I agree. The Bf-109 that I talked about earlier would have spun itself around just by gunning the throttle. Bloody massive engine torque on those things...
Evening all. A good day at the track.
How on earth did you manage that, you should have been well away? :)
I passed a Megane Trophy team which had stopped on the main road. And then again after I stopped for fuel.
Evening Pat, sounds like a good day was had by all :)
ergh yeah i did. i could have killed that guy. no damage to me or my camera. Mum caught me. i'd run down half of hanger straight and up over the bridge to get a photo as the f1 car just went passed us when i wasn't paying attention. Once i got to my place a guy came running from behind me and just pushed me down a bit of the bank as the renault was coming.. I was no pleased. It didn't come past again and i know people can get excited but there were only 4 of us on the bank!
we may have taken a detour to a certain factory in Brackley :) .. which i may or may not have spent about 45mins at.. trying to work out if i could get closer without the security guard catching me :)
jeeeez...
Yeah it was, quite a relaxed one as well, we weren't rushing about. That was helped by not really having any track action until 1pm so the morning was spent just wandering about seeing things, then we went trackside for most of the rest (apart from lunch during the Meganes.. we didn't care about those really).
Must thanks to Jackie for the spare ticket
You were in the UK..?? Never knew.
Blimey, how rude
yep. he was much taller than me too. i was not impressed. still i got some shots that made up for it on the last f1 run and it didn't hurt. :)
least you're ok and your cameras are fine too, that's what matters. Stupid man though.
Wow - what a ****!
Yeah he's been over for 2 and a half week :)
:) yeah, plus i think i know the layout of silverstone now! :) win - win! :)
Oh right
woohoo!! :D
yeah, think he was racing his friend.. i was not best pleased at all, but it's hard to stay angry when you're at a race track i think :)
We've been very busy tbh though. At a wedding then Nick went to a stag do and we've been up north for a bit while I've been working etc.
Well, Nick's on his way to teh sandbox.....
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/BAW109
It really needs that red tracer and the Indiana Jones music, although....
:)
If there was a red line you would want it to be a Mission Impossible fuse
I saw some bizarre conversations about assassinating Nick earlier....
One shot for you all tonight i'm afraid, not sure i can bring myself to go through and batch edit tonight.
http://yfrog.com/kh064wj
I only told Jordan to get your permission first
ooooh, smoky.
I like how you can still see the red bits.
there is an F1 car in there somewhere. i promise. :)
Welcome to F1 where we are conscious of the environment and don't waste resources.
I love tyre smoke and donust
Or even donuts
Nick wanted to be shot if I recall. I just provided options for you Allison. From rock-salt to wipe out the planet...
:D
He did donuts in front of us twice!!! on both of his laps! <3
it smelt great too! (don't judge me! )
Lucky you
WHat's wrong with loving the smell.
It is a great smell after all. all part of the experience :)
he's one of my new favourites.. if only i could remember his name..
mum gave me the funniest 'what is wrong with you' look when i said it :)
Some people don't understand
she had walked the entirety of silverstone by this point, i think she was just totally bemused at how... 6 hours after we had arrived i was still completely hyper :)
I see. Might take a rain check on that one.
:D
i don't think i had remembered the full extent of the rattle of engines as they go full speed down a straight. I don't think i stopped smiling. Asked mum is we can go to Silverstone next week and she just gave me a look... she did do 6 hours of driving and walk an F1 track today.. i think i'll let her off :)
It's OK, once you've moved into Silverstone you won't need to do the driving there bit but just the hyper smiley bit ;)
Jan Charouz
No idea how but I am completely frazzled, who knew doing adminy stuff for a blog could knackered you out?
Anyways, off to bed. Night guys :)
haha there were some sleep easy hotel cabin things i spotted.. i was tempted. :)
Admittedly not someone we'll see on the F1 grid any time soon
*saves* thanks Pat! :)
night Lukeh
no matter, he was so great with the fans. Hope he gets hired to do goodwood or something if one of the more famous renault drivers can't make it.
Night Lukeh
I must head off to sleep too.. didn't realise my arms could ache this much :) night all!!§
True. He also co-owns his own F Renault 3.5 team so that he can go racing.
Night Lou
good night
Here are Jackie, Kimster and Gene 'Maverick' Kelly on the old circuit.. https://picasaweb.google.com/PatrickWotton/2011SilverstoneWorldSeriesByRenault#5643438703049058722
Was Mav expecting rain?
Those of us who aren't budding pro photographers and just like to point-and-shoot can just throw their photos online straight away without worrying about edits even if they need them ;)
Here they are:
https://picasaweb.google.com/PatrickWotton/2011SilverstoneWorldSeriesByRenault
He reckoned some was due.. It wasn't.
If he had put the umbrella up Jackie may not have been sunburnt
Shame about Alexander Rossi - disqualified from both FR 3.5 races this evening.
Bah.
WOW! Bob Varsha on Wind Tunnel said that pace car driver, Johnny Rutherford said that the race should NOT have re-started. This is quite contrary to what BB said at the post-race
Not exactly. BB said JR had not said the race should not re-start. So it is possible JR thought the race should not re-start but did not express an opinion the subject. Although it is inconceivable to me that a man of his experience did not question the re-start
That is NOT what was just said said on Wind Tunnel. Expect a crappy cam video soon...
That is very interesting then and means BB flat out lied. I wonder why it has taken Rutherford so long to speak out as he must have known what had been said about him shortly after the race
I believe that it is called a muzzle.
Those don't usually don't work on ex-drivers. Hence why Mansell was happy to speak out about F1 stewarding while the likes of McNish and Kristensen who are still racing are a lot more cautious.
In the crappy video to come... Robin Miller " ... BB threw JR under the bus..."
Looks like fireworks are due
Note to self... press the RECORD button.
:D
O.K. after all the recording, converting and all, here is the segment from tonight's Wind Tunnel where Bob Varsha and Robin Miller discuss the Will Power "Double Whammy". Of interest, @ -+ 2:40 RM says " BB threw JR under the bus"
Note: 25MB
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36223947/MVI_5685-2.m4v
Amazing. One of the pit stewards spoke directly to Oriol Servia as well.
The independent panel can only change the positions of the top three drivers? That is dumber than anything Max did.
Barnhart is toast.
Thanks for the video Bert
NP. Hopefully it's won't be lost in the very early hase of the interwebs.
One answer that I have not had yet is to the statement of RHR during post-race press conference as to initiating a pass before the start line. What RHR basically said was that Oriol could not have passed him since you can not initiate (or complete?) a pass before the start line, which the video show had happened.
That is normal in most championships but it has to be answered.
The other thing is what constitutes the race finish if Servia won? Crossing the start line for the green is the finish?
Agreed, but it has not prevented Indycar from botching calls. Look at the start of the 500, as organized as a herd of cats.
'Night.
Goodnight
