Hey all! Guess what? You’ll never believe what I have to tell you…
7 DAYS UNTIL THE START OF THE SEASON!!
Oh my goodness!! Are you excited? (I am, but as you can see I’m containing it well). A little bit of F1 news for you then, Pirelli have come up with a colour co ordinated system for their tyres so we can see which compounds are being used. Well it’s certainly a different idea, whether it’s a good one or not.. only time will tell as they say!
While the F1 personal are busy preparing for and flying to Australia for the start of the season, it’s non stop work at Sidepodcast Towers too! Mr and Mrs C have been working hard to provide coverage for a number of events. First there was Red Nose Day on Friday, then on Saturday we live commented Sebring AND Live Crushed Ice, for a while both simultaneously. Thank you Mr and Mrs C for all the work you’ve done this weekend, but of course the work you always do for us. It really is appreciated. I can think of only one way to thank you.
Moving away from motorsports, I think Nekama the baby leopard may well be one of the cutest baby animals ever!
However, Antares the baby Siberian tiger does come close. How adorable!! I totally want one!
So, as is normal for my daily posts lets take a look at some interesting pieces of artwork, and inventions I’ve found this week;
• How about starting with a mega bridge? When I say mega, I mean amazing! The proposed Paik Nam June Media Bridge would not only serve as a bridge but also act as a park, museum, shopping centre and much more! Plus it’ll be covered in solar panels so will be able to generate it’s own energy. How cool!
• Everyone wants a pirate ship for a bedroom once in their life, even for a second. Well someone has actually made his bedroom into a ship!
• Here is a link just for dog owners, how about putting your dog in an epic dog house? I hear some of you say you don’t have a dog… but that’s okay because these dog houses may tempt you to buy one. I know I’m tempted! I wonder what they do for cats?
• Seeing as last week people seemed to like the photos of little a little model world, how about some of these latest shots (not by Slinkachu like last week) of some which make use of the much loved Apple Iphone.
• If you’ve ever considered trying your hand at street photography, make sure you check out these amazing shots first. Very beautifully done.
• Oh and on the other scale of photography, here is a sneak peak into the behind the scenes of some rather much larger shoots.
Also, if you’re bored at any point today, how about making some lovely colourful cupcakes?
Look out for a guest post on our trip to Mercedes Benz World yesterday. Lukeh and I headed to the Surrey attraction yesterday afternoon and had a great time! We’ll fill you in with the details the moment we can!
I also bring the very sad news that Knut the Polar Bear has died. RIP Knut.
Podcast of the Week
I have more sad news I’m afraid everyone, today is the last podcast of the week. I promised I would try to keep you occupied during the off season and this being the last Sunday before the racing starts again means that this is the final look back at podcasts from the past for a while.
To mark the occasion I wanted to feature a rather special show. I thought for a while before the answer was clear. Could the week before the start of the season be seen as a sort of Parade lap? Well in my eyes it can! So I’ve chosen a brilliant example the best race build up you can get.
I wont spoil it for you, I’ll let you all see for yourself how awesome it can be live streaming the making of cupcakes!
I’ll leave you with these rather inspirational words.
See you next week!
Hello new daily :)
I too much sleep now. have a nice day everyone!
Good night Lou
Wow I want a themed bedroom too
Not before I get mine!!
I'm sitting on a bench at a tram stop where i can't touch the ground. It's making me feel very very short
The answer is the same answer that is used in militaries worldwide for complaints about being issued a uniform that is too big......
YOU GROW! NEXT!
I'm doing my final walking lap and it just struck me how unfamiliar all the pirelli trackside advertising is
Morning everyone :)
hello Mr Alex
Morning Miss Amy.
Have fun at the track?
I walked 8.6km and now I can't feel my legs, but I did have fun :D
ooh it's a Giggles Radio day isn't it? I really shouldn't stay up for it but I always say that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG_1Pv8H_gs Timo has been visiting streets I walk on every day and shopping in places I go often. I find that so weird :D
Fish n chips for dinner, yum.
This time next week jenson will have win his third aussi gp in a riw
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaa
You just watch
I really don't think McLaren are ready to win races yet. Unless everyone else crashes :D
That's the plan
ahh you'll be the one throwing things onto the track then? excellent :D
marky mark will be at the front and we all know he will never win this race so........
nah, he'll be out in the gravel on lap one.
I'd just like to see someone else win, I keep seeing the same three people over and over!
One Michael Schumacher win, coming up! :D
That plus MotoGP probably means I will...
hmm, no thanks:D
you said you wanted to see someone other the same three people (Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel) winning! he's not one of them. :D
in other news, now that Pamela and I are locked in for Singapore who else wants to cooooooome :D
wish i could. :|
I ain't never seen a Vettel win
I see from Facebook you went to Singapore when there wasn't a race on. That's your first mistake!
Hahahaha! That's because I wanted to see what Singapore had OTHER than F1 - and that would be impossible over the race weekend. Besides, that was to celebrate the anniversary with the now-fiancée. :D I went in 2008, remember? ;)
ahh, so you saw Hamilton, Alonso... and who? did you mean Button or Barrichello?
Singapore is the easiest place to explore because you don't need to go to the track until night time so you can be touristy in the day. Even though I've only been there for races I think I've seen all I want to see. Malaysia on the other hand I am fully prepared to see none of at all. And 2008 was yeeeears ago! Your pictures of the Marina Bay Sands made me think I should check out that Skydeck this year.
Is the fiancee into F1? You should work on that so that that can be the only reason you ever go places in the future.
I've seen Hamilton win twice, Button win twice and Alonso win three.
We tried to be touristy, but we only went to nearby spots (to avoid the extra-crowded MRT that weekend). That meant we had to walk. In the process, I aggravated a sprain I suffered just 3 weeks before after I lost control of an ATV and hit the grass tipped on my left side. I didn't need to go to hospital, but I went through a lot of gauze that weekend. And I didn't mind it one bit. ;)
Haha! She's a casual fan - she was my companion at that inaugural GP. :) Best. Experience. Ever. :D I'll bring her to another GP when funds allow. (Australia maybe? ;) ) But there's lot of non-F1 places we want to see too. :)
It is! And you do :)
You are always getting locked in at circuits ;)
ahh fair enough. The MRT wasn't anymore crowded than Melbourne public transport is every single day of the year so it didn't bother me but I guess it could be annoying if you're not used to feeling like a sardine.
I figure the non-F1 places can wait until they have F1 races. Or tennis. One day I might make a trip that's not based around sport, but it'll be years away, I have too many sports to see first :)
:D
:-)
Wasn't 2008 unbelievably crowded? I remember getting stuck in an underground crossing that had an MRT connection for 15 whole minutes - that alone was enough to convince us. :| We made use of the MRT almost all the time last year, though. :)
Hehehe. She's already asking me if we can see the World Cup in 2014. That is, if we don't decide to go to Italy first - that would be unbelievably expensive, but an amazing win-win too! :D
I will be most disappointed if I don't hear THE Buggles song there...
you so obviously have never been to Melbourne :D
Obviously not. :D
I do recall walking back to my hotel instead of queuing for a train, but I do that here too.
Top tip: stay within walking distance of the track.
So you've been to 2 GPs in 08, 1 GP in 09, 4 GPs last year, and now 3 GPs this year. You are quite the traveler! (Not to mention an unbelievable budgeter to save up and get to go to so many races. :D )
Did they have more than one?
theres a reason i'm going back to Singapore and not Monza. Well, the main reason is money and the distance to get there, but that ruins my point :D
I'm sure they did, but there was only one hit. :D
:D
you may notice I don't drink and rarely leave the house. it makes saving easy :D
to be perfectly honest, it probably helps that you're single too. ;) you only spend on yourself. :)
this is true :D my last boyfriend always liked to pay for everything yet I still ended up with no money. Very odd :D
hehehe. aww! i'm pretty sure your future husband will be an F1 fan too, so no need to worry. :D
Look what I found: the first day of broadcast of MTV in 1981.

And once you see the video, you'll understand why this is a perfectly acceptable hashtag too:
#sidepodspace
if he's not before the wedding, he will be after the Monaco honeymoon.
hahahaha! i think it'll be more than likely he'll have been with you at an Aussie GP long before you're married. ;)
the other day my mum was telling me about how her friends daughter has just got married and had a baby and she's 40 "so there's still hope for you yet"
I'm still a long way from 40 mum!
but isn't the standard age that doctors ask you to have babies is around 30? it's definitely possible after that age (my mom gave birth to my sis at 37), but it does get harder.
oh definitely, I was just more worried that my mum is already assuming I'll remain single for the next 16 years
hahahahahaha! i think she's hoping you'll be married by 30. :D
you never know :)
indeed so. :)
oh lord Jake did the Neighbours tour today. He's so British!
There's a neighbours tour? Why?
because British people love Dr Karl.
Um. I thought he was a guy on the abc radio. #neverwatchedneighbours
right, I am going to go and watch Shutter Island. I think I might regret this.
Oh yeah. Not too bad, if a bit obvious.
Morning all. seven days? really? Hmm...
If anyone wants to see a video of Kovi driving around with a CNN reporter, click here.
His answer about 100% just doesn't sound or look convincing....
I didn't dislike it as much as I remember Christine disliking it in her film watch, but it really was a bit long :)
Mum's can be like that
DR KARL!!!
:D
I liked the second half far better, they should have just canned the first 40 minutes. Shorter, better film. Win win :)
I've gone done a new reasons to be cheerful post... A nice and calming one...
http://bit.ly/fWDxJF
about half way through I started sorting out my MP3s tags while I was watching. It made the time go faster :)
Scott, buddy, how ya doing?
If you're lurking, you need to take a peek if this:
http://sidepodcastwiki.com/SidepodBoston
And by lurking, you mean working? ;) Yeah I'm around. send me an email to [email protected] and then I'll contact you from that [it's my spam filter email I use on websites]. I will certainly turn up for some socialising given I don't have to travel!
Cool, will do :D
I await your spam, I mean email...
Sent a test
Morning.
Hehe - this time next week we will be discussing the aftermath of the race and I will be zipping around Copenhagen in my new car :D
Hey Gavin
Sounds great
Morning from Tundraland. Hell with Liberty! Give me "Giggles Radio" or give me Death! :P
Morning stranger (I take responsibility on that front). Anything to not thing about the aftermath of way too many current events...
Yeah I'm trying not to worry about stuff like that TBH.
Apparently it's @marussiavirgin's birthday today...
More cake
:)
He needs to update the bio on his personal account, it still says @virginracing :D
you're obsessed.
parade lap cupcakes! lovely daily lou.
that's old news. :P
on another note, g-radio is on at 4?
I like facts! Facts I tell you!
This is how we make sure we've done the daily right - Amy always sees when you forget to add the summary bit ;)
oooh, we might miss that... we're off to look at televisions.
old school.
hehe
Booo.
thats what the internet is for (not the watching of television, the investigationing of televisions)
Also, you said we were going outside to get away from the screen and TVs have screens, I vote we don't go.
how appropriate that the C's look at TVs the same day DJ Giggles covers the year MTV was born. ;)
Woo hoo
Good deals to be had at Richer Sounds, as always
i sat in front of a monitor for 12 hours!
Correctamundo Mr Journeyer
Booooooooo!
So did a lot of people. TV sales will be through the roof today then!
Gracias DJ Giggles. :D
Giggles Radio serving as the Parade Lap... for MotoGP! :D
I vote this way too... Who buys televisions in a shop...
You know they sell televisions on the internet too right ;)
i can go buy one by myself?
Just as we got our musical note and everything!
That's true!
Who knows what kind of monstrosity you would come back with? Inches and inches worth of silly TV.
I actually bought 2 televisions on the internet this week (not for me but for work) 2 x 60"!
Hello
bigger TV = bigger F1 = very good. :D
I'll miss it because I'm visiting my grandparents collecting my birthday present and eating trifle.
you just did 20 hours of factbyte factboxing. we'll stream giggles in the car and you can fbfb in your head.
You've got to see how they look though
I picked which one I wanted and found the cheapest price in town online. The actual buying took about 5 minutes.
Shame MTV isn't around anymore ;)
Just out of interest... Is their a reason you are getting a tv rather than just a freeview box which you can grab the output of?
You can get a Freeview USB stick too I think.
And if you call ahead, you can make sure they have it ready for you ...
in what sense? i just refuse to rely on internet streaming anymore. i want to watch f1 that doesn't skip when flash maxes the processor.
happy with any suggestions that involves taking a signal from the air and putting it in front of me.
A TV Card for your computer?
I has one of those :D
true. but i need to go outside. tv is just an excuse.
Can you take a Freeview signal and hook it up to a monitor?
I hear that!
You'll be live streaming though right :)
Hmmm, I have discovered a flaw in the Giggles Radio delivery system. The parameters are designed in such a way that the only version of the song "Popcorn" that can be listerned to is the "Crazy Frog" version as all other versions of "Popcorn" are pre 1980.
{NOOOOOOOOOO !}
Never knew how old that song really was....
we already have one of these: http://www.elgato.com/elgato/int/mainmenu/home/EyeTV-Netstream-products.en.html
thats how I felt today and 9km later it hurt.
It is all very well talking about goiing outside in the comments. We dont seem to be getting very far.
streamin us listening to you streaming?
i'm moving!
You should never buy a TV without seeing it first. I used to sell them and I can guarantee that if you are not happy with the picture in the shop, you'll just return it.
Right, so why do you need a TV then?
it's not a great solution. it's not HD, and it takes up valuable screen space needed for commenting.
also, we both have to run it on our computers and the audio isn't always in sync so we use headphones. we need a global screen.
I see.
a tv is the simplest solution even if christine doesn't agree.
motorsport internet streaming failed us.
good reason. I am intrigued by this HD thing, I am almost sad Melbourne is first so I have to wait to see the HD and hear how DC goes as a commentator.
I may not have explained myself well enough. The rule is that each episode I can only play songs that have been released up to the year that I'm dealing with. At least 2 songs today are from 1979.
But I am trying to show my Audio Biography so the songs that have meant something to me... So as I became older I listened to a lot of much older music and so as we move forward in time I will be talking about older songs I found out about and gigs I went to by older bands and so on. So the scope gets larger and larger.
However at the age of 0 in 1980 and 1 in 1981 I didn't know much of what was going on so it's hard to justify going any earlier...
But last show I played Alexander Beetle by Melanie even though that was from the 70s because I know my mother played it to me when I was a baby.
if you go to Radio Le Mans, Eve was asking in the forum what we thought of the coverage BTW...
Well, if not too fussy about what type of signal you get, Radios have been know to take an Audio signal out of the air.... :P I suggest you get either UHF or VHF type as they come with AM or FM but then you can also listen in to to Air and Marine traffic as well! :P
:)
Please report back any bargains seen, I'm currently saving up for one too.
Are u streaming what I'm streaming
hindy was great. nothing else was. there's no point telling them though, they don't have the talent to fix their problems. their out of their depth.
:)
They were asking on behalf of the sponsors, the manufacturers and the ALMS-
It isn't RLM providing the coverage, it is ESPN.
alms needs a new streaming partner. red bull ideally.
Not sure ESPN do either :)
ESPN has the weight to fix it, and this was their first go. So I reckon by their next 'big deal' race which is Petit Le Mans, they'll have made improvements.
....you forgot to add the words "for the last time", while doing a Force-Choke on Motosport Internet, "Darth C"......
:D
Hehehe. It is worrying how clearly I can picture it.
Not really. Anyone above a certain age has the exact same mental image.....
Amy, did you take any pics on your track walk yesterday?
espn and eurosport have no clue about internet streaming.
i know. and next year RoC will be perfect and so will everyone else next time.
i'm just cynical about motorsport online, i really don't see anyone having much of a clue. live timing was crap again yesterday. live timing is trivial to get right yet every single series we watch has issues, from the smallest to f1.
only the ones I've already twitpiced
I shouldnt think so. Not everyone knows what Mr C looks like.
Ta.
Live timing is always crap, I have no idea why? Have you guys got access to that data?
I don't understand why streaming always fails - free or paid. Maybe these people just don't research how many people are actually gonna tune in?
It's not like it was competing with any TV broadcasts either
the reason must be the people involved only have a cursory understanding of the web. we have no direct access to data, no.
What's wrong with Eurosport?
i paid for the their coverage of le mans and it didn't work on a mac.
Oh
Wait Mr C doesn't wear a Darth Vader suit all the time now?
i'm cynical, but motorsport made me this way :)
It's the Bernie Effect
I just 'watched' the GP2 Asia race on Twitter. Seems the title was decided when someone crashed early in the Sprint race. It won't be on TV until tomorrow though, what with it being the last-minute replacement.
Where was it, Italy?
Imola
...Some dude in a Darth Vader costume Force-chocking a Motorsport Internet looks like some other dude in a Darth Vader costume trying to Force-start his/her father's VW......
After all, Yoda warned us not to judge us based on size only. You never know when you when you run up to a three foot high Jedi Master.....
DVR set
I think the Feature race is on TV today, or has been already
Looks like the Series Link already picked that up. I'll have a look at that later after the pub :)
Text from teen sister. I'm requested to stay over next Saturday while parents are in London. Hm.. On the plus side they have HD TV. On the minus side, here I can roll out of bed and crawl to the TV and other screens.
i'm being dragged away. laters lovely peoples.
It doesn't start until 7am? That doesn't seem right.
stupid twilight starting time, making life hard for us locals, and the drivers, ruining the UK unholy hour tradition
Have fun - and remember, if you don't like it in the shop, don't take it home!
I have a similar problem - I'm at the Outlaws next saturday. Luckily they have the same TV as me so as long as I take my Netbook and associated cables, I can hook it all up saturday morning and steal their laptop for comments. I'm back home for the race though!
Lukeh will be disappointed to know there is no lamb on the meni

I am planning on coming back to join everyone for Giggles Radio at 11:00 am EDT. I need the two hours to come up with the third word for a Sidepodcastland Slogoan motto in the spirit of France's cool "Liberté, Égalité and Fraternité", to stire up the masses.... So far I got the last two ideas - " Giggles Radio and Cake", but I need the first.
Giggles, Radio and Cake?
Especially as they will have several "small deal" races of practise!
It's a scaling issue. Getting live timing or anything else to work shown on one screen is easy (any karting track in the UK can prove that). Getting the same information to work on a network is considerably more difficult and the larger the network the bigger the difficulties. This is especially true when one cannot predict ahead of schedule how many people will want the information at a given moment. It's why internet contention ratios matter. It's why network administrators get paid so much. It's why you have to be shifting many terabytes of data before getting a discount on hosting. From a different angle, it's even why you need a better internet connection the more sites and the more data-intensive the things you wish to do at a given time.
Or they underestimate what each of these people needs to get a appropriately functional connection?
Typical assumptive distribution people!
Whoops! One of my friends decided on impulse to go and see the race live; I'm awaiting her report on how it was.
The ESPN3 stream in the states worked perfectly for me, on my mac! I was very impressed.
Brilliant! Do we all need to move there, then?
Do you know if it is possible to convert an MP4 (AAC) file to MP3? My car stereo doesn't understand MP4.
The MP4s being iTunes purchases.
By the look of it, you need a virtual CD drive and "burn" the tracks to the "CD". Afterwards converting to MP3 is exactly like converting a normal CD to MP3 except that you don't have the hassle of changing "discs" every 12 tracks...
You can do it in iTunes... You should be able to right click on the song and choose "convert to MP3"
Complicated..
Sorry "Create MP3 version"...
I right click a track and the only option is 'Convert to AAC' which makes no sense because that's what they are already :)
Aha!
Go to Edit->Preferences->General->Import Settings and choose MP3. Then go back and right click.
Brilliant, thanks very much. :)
I wouldn't have expected the export choice to be under import..
Yes it seems pretty confusing... But what you are basically saying is, "make this my default format". But that's certainly not what the preference says!
Will today's Giggles Radio be available for watching later? I'm out in a minute but I'd like to listen to it either later, or tomorrow on my day off.
It will be available yes... It's like to take until tomorrow to be uploaded though.
Of course, seeing as it's the most wonderfullest country... in the world!
;)
Okay thanks, no rush. :)
Not for me in the northeast on my mac. It was okay, but it would freeze, and flash crashed once, but that's typical.
Well it turns out Mum's on her way to her parents already despite saying we're not meeting until 4.. so I'd best go! Have fun and I hope to be back in time for MotoGP.
Have fun!
What time is Giggles today?
4pm Sidepodtime :)
Thanks. I'll go out and get the mail and be right back, make breakfast, and settle in for fun! :)

#sidepodspace
Time for a little sidepodspace update.
The Messenger space craft entered the orbit of the planet Mercury during week. It is the first craft ever to do so. We will not get photos from it until March 29th.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/messenger/main/index.html
I mentioned this one during the week but it was late at night and not many people were around. This is maybe my favourite space news in a long time. It's all about space ran which we knew happened but seasonal space rain storm on Titan are very new and mean these patterns probably repeat on lots of worlds.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/cassini/whycassini/cassini20110317.html
Hello. MotoGP time.
Hi Pat. I thought it was going to just be me and the echo
Just in time. Watching BBC even though I prefer Eurosport ;)
Why so?
DePuniet down
Dunno, just like Toby Moody's banter I suppose. Chariie Cox is OK.
Watch Eurosport then
Looks like the Hondas are just going to disappear
Stoner's always great here
I think the Stoner-Pedrosa battle at Honda is going to be fascinating this season
Looks like they aren't afraid to fight each other
Both want to be number one. Pedrosa has been Honda's favourite for a few seasons and Stoner is the new boy. Recipe for a battle
Interesting that they've chosen to run three bikes as well
Honda used to run 5 Repsol factory bikes at one time
Simoncelli really committed to that
Edwards passes Barbera for 8th, loved Cox's comment "hi I'm the experienced old guy"
This is interesting so far.
This is the first race of the year I've been able to watch on an Actual TV on my comfy sofa, rather than hunched over PC screen web feed
I wonder if Stoner is saving fuel to let him really go for it when he gets the lead back. He looks like he is not really going for it down the straight
He has done that before.
Stoner is usually mighty round here.
I wonder if Rossi's performance all down to his injury or because the bike is not suited to him?
Ithought Rossi was giving him that position but Spies just went in way too deep
I think most of it is injury and a little of it is bike. Given what he and Jerry Burgess did at Yamaha I don't think sorting the bike is a big deal
Yeah, except all of Stoner's team mates have had big trouble on the Ducati. Who is Rossi's team mate BTW?
I was thinking about that at the start of the race and I am not sure. Hayden?
Yes
Think so. He's been a bit rubbish since they switched to smaller engines.
The Ducati is unusual but Yamaha was utterly useless. All sorts of people went there and couldn't win a race. Rossi won his first race and first championship he ran with them. Such a huge achievement
Yeah he was challenging in his first year there. The Yamaha doesn't do as well at this race but it will be interesting to see how Jorge does this year.
I think he has been rubbish since he hasn't had Rossi to sort the bike for him. Another Alex Criville who managed to get a championship as the result of someone else's efforts
I think he will go backwards like Hayden
Yeah me too. Good rider, but I think it might be Honda vs. Rossi this yeat.
Wow Stoner has a lead!
I thought Rossi was off there
Rossi is letting Ben Spies waste his bike so he can catch him at the end...
Brown trousers moment!
I wonder why Rossi left Yamaha anyway?
Ha!
No idea
Maybe he wanted a new challenge
:D
:D
Charlie Cox comparing the Ducati to a woman long sought after, yet a rubbish date when Rossi finally went out with her!
Really not surprised Randy De Puniet crashed!
What bike is SImoncelli on?
I'm amazed he still has a ride
Toni Elias down
Private Honda
Ooh and he's attacking a works bike?
He was ahead for a while
Great win by Stoner. Looks like Honda will be tough to beat this year.
I think they will dominate. Hopefully some circuits will favour other bikes and Pedrosa can threaten Stoner
I would love to know why Dovisioso gets a factory Honda. He is nowhere near good enough for that
Lorenzo seems a bit over-emotional
Can't disagree with that. The only saving grace is that if Rossi gets fast he will end up catching up if the Honda riders take points off each other.
Dunno, he doesn't score well. Perhaps he's their plan for the future?
Woohoo! 1-2 for my MotoGP picks in the TMR game!
We should see Rossi getting faster all year. Hopefully the same for Lorenzo.
I don't think he is getting any better. I wonder if he brings sponsorship
Apparently Lorenzo said in Spanish:
I wonder what made Stoner so sick last year?
Or 2009 rather
This is Dovisioso's 4th season in MotoGP and third on a factory Honda. One win and 7 podiums does not suggest a great future
I think Pedrosa may be bluffing about the arm because he got beat today?
He missed some of last year as well didn't he?
I bet it got a lot worse the further away Stoner got.
Don't know, I missed most of last year.
A couple of races I think. My memory is shocking
I wonder if any of my colleagues were at the race?
Inflamation of the stomach lining
Oooh F1 Preview!
Wikipedia says he disputed that though.
Didn't know that
Me neither, just that it was a 'mystery'
Hiiiii :)
Hello
Hi Alison!
Evening guys. :)
Hey lukeh. Great pics mate ;9
Hi Lukeh,
How was Brooklands?
Cheers Gavin, me and Lou will put together a post some time this week to go into more detail. Really fun place to go though for free.
Great! I really loved seeing the track too. Really quite something to stand on it and just think of the history from it's past.
wow! Free???
How awesome was the de constructed Merc F1 car?
How is everyone else?
Actually mind blowing, no pun inteded :)
Shame it's in such disrepair
When I was there I just sat on the tack for about 20 minutes trying to imagine what it must have been like
As you can see in one of the photos behind the facility it's pretty hidden away in disrepair behind fences which is a bit sad. We really wanted to go on the steep bits.
I'll upload them onto flickr tomorrow after work tomorrow so they can be shared away from facebook. I know Lou has photos to edit but her's will be fabulous rather than mine being general phone photos of course :)
awesome.
Brian Cox going on the vomit Comet
Looks so fun!!
It does but it is not called the vomit Comet for nothing. At the bottom of each parabola you get gravity at double the normal rate. So for however long you are up there every minute or so you go from 0 gravity to double gravity and back again.
How can Brian Cox lift his hands if the centrifuge is meant to cut out if he takes his finger off the chicken button?
He looked like he'd aged by decades at 5g. Mental.
It just shows the effect gravity has on the face. Only a matter of time before cosmetic companies offer anti-gravity cream
Evening all.
Hi Christine,
Had a good day?
Hiya Mrs C :)
Christine,
Could you delete a couple of comments for me. Took me three attempts to get the right comment in the right place

Hehe, no problem.
Thanks
Fab day. Looked at a big fridge, ate some nice food, went for a bit of a walk. Tired now.
You deserve a rest now after all the FBFBing over the weekend
I'm amazed you managed to survive Sebring and Crashed Ice at the same time especially!
Yes, I will admit that even pushed my multi-tasking skills!
I had to drop Crashed Ice after the second run, brain couldn't handle it especially at that hour! I've no idea how the others did it.
I watched Crashed Ice and when there was a gap between races I switched to Sebring to read comments and see what Christine had put in the FBFB. I could barely keep up by reading so I have no idea how Christine was finding tweets and posting them too.
Brian Cox is doing a Jake with his iPad :)
The really fun stuff, are the pull-outs out of the really steep dives (beyond 60 degrees, you can actually black out from the possible 8+ G's you are pulling to level off and start climbing again...., 'course, you really do not want to bounce off the solid ground either...
I am no expert but bouncing off solid ground seems like a bad idea
so Timo has already been for a 1 hour run this morning and all I've managed to do is drag myself to work. Boo.
There was a video of him just wandering around Melbourne and no one seemed to notice him. You should've unleashed amy skills :)
He doesn't have to go to work though
I was so sad! I go to all those places all the time but I wasn't at any of them yesterday :(
I just wish I could run in the mornings really. Running would be nice today, my legs ache when I sit or stand still but when I'm moving they're fine.
You just need to get into the habit of doing it. I used to do it every morning and it just becomes a habit. I am not a morning person but once you get into the habit of getting up early to run it is not a big deal. The first few weeks are a different matter though
I think I'll give it a go one day and see what happens. Maybe this week because otherwise I won't be able to run at all between Wednesday and Sunday because F1 is in my way
I tried it for a bit but I gave up because it wasn't fun turning up to work with a bright red face.
Try it. The first few times can be really difficult but don't let that put you off
I can imagine you would not like that
heheh thankfully my redness fades by the time I get out of the shower but before that it's very tomato
Have got round to seeing the Comic Relief Newport State of Mind, it's odd seeing GLC sing that when they made their own even-Newport-er version :)
HI Steven (and others) - have you seen the video released by NASA of the Solid rocket booster recovery operation? The video is shot from the boats that go and retrieve the spent fuel containers after the shuttle uses up the fuel and drops them away. I love the big floaty thing in the water - looks a bit like 2001's big black rectangle thing.

In other news - I am in contact with appropriate people for meetup events in Boston in a few weeks
Steve Jones said the Steve Jones bits!
:)
I like how Josie D'arby was in it. Whenever she's on TV mum says 'I know Josie D'arby, she lived by us before did josie d'arby' :)
Never seen the recovery before. The only thing I know about it is that the left SRB has a big black stripe on it that I didn't spot in all the year the shuttle has been flying until NASA TV mentioned it a few launches ago.
Also, Anneka Rice is Welsh?????
Mind = blown.
So *why* does it have a stripe while the other one doesn't? So they know which way to stick the shuttle together? Like when a surgeon comes in and chats to you about which body part they're going to play with, and get you to draw on it clearly so they don't make mistakes.
So they can identify which one they have found when they recover them. Don't know why they need to know
Scott,
Did you see the space rain/seasonal storms link?
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/cassini/whycassini/cassini20110317.html
thanks for that. I hadn't seen it. I am way too busy these days. I don't think I watched a single day of the shuttle coverage other than the launch and then missed the landing by about two minutes :( oh well. I hope they extend a few more missions. I came close to diverting a trip through Florida in november to see Discovery take off...I would have been waiting a long time :)
Looking at the recovery video it looks like the pointy bit on top of the SRBs separates to let the parachutes deploy and then just drops into the ocean. I guess in years to come divers will recover squished point bits and invent some interesting theories about what they are
There is a private company trying to convince the powers that be to allow them to take over the shuttle fleet and launch two or three missions a year.
I wish the video showed the splashdown of those things but maybe the boats have to stay away in case the wind shifts and you have a rocket land on your boat. wouldn't be good.
Bring it on :)
Just bought a TV. Humph.
well come to 1960! :)
I think they have to stay a safe distance. Add in the wind factor and that the SRBs are not guided after they are jettisoned and the target area must be pretty big
You looked at fridges and bought a TV?
We looked at the whole shop. It was quite exciting. Not been in an electrical shop for aaaages. The fridge was amazingness.
Came home and bought a TV on the interwebs.
Looking at shiny new things is fun.
You need to make Mr C take you out more often.
I sometimes think in the future shops will only display things for people to inspect before they buy on the net.
As always, it was cheaper on Amazon.
I hope you didn't buy it from Mr Magpie
#doctorwho
If only Amazon had shops
I thought that was now. I'm not a big shopper but those apps where you scan the barcode and it shows you the price comparison with other stores are really cool.
The fun with the Lotus court case starts tomorrow doesn't it?
Already started by the looks of things: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/formulaone/lotusf1/8394129/Team-Lotus-civil-war-breaks-out-with-Tony-Fernandes-and-David-Hunt-locked-in-dispute-over-payment-for-name.html
Woo. :)
I wonder if Hunt is trying to do a deal with Bahar
I think he's trying to get as much as he can from wherever he can.
I wonder if Novak is ever going to lose another tennis match.
christine said it was hard to tell le mans cars apart in the dark. even audi struggle to pick out their own:

:)
:D
I am sure she would at least have got Franck's car right nlike Audi
unlike not nlike
haha :)
It's not even one mistake! There's a whole load of them!
it means we now have creative commons licensed images of peugeot. go audi!
oh wow :)
:D
Will that encourage Christine to become an Audi fan?
Obviously i didnt see sebring but from that album I can now tell every single car was an audi, fantastic :)
