It is Friday at last, and we have reached the end of another week - almost ready to go headlong into the weekend. There's no racing this time round, but I'm sure we can find plenty to keep us amused. To get us off to a good start, here are some of the things we're talking about:
- Lukeh pointed out the first in the latest series from F1.com, in which Vettel answers some probing questions. We're curious what happened in testing to get Seb so worked up, but it doesn't look like he'll be telling us any time soon.
- Jim wrote us an excellent guest post discussing his first lap around the Hockenheimring. It's a good insight into how it feels to drive where the professionals have been before and still return to today.
- Manipe has asked the question: how much overtaking do you want in F1? It's a topic we've touched upon many times, and particularly when there are dull races in our recent memories. There were some moves in Bahrain, but was it enough? And how far to the other extreme could we go? Don't make me mention Mr C watching NASCAR again.
- Also a quick note, as spotted by RG, the future of the Italian GP seems to be on a much more secure footing than we've seen in a long while. Monza should be on the calendar until 2016!
That'll do it for now, I reckon. Just time for a quick happy birthday to Pat, who I think is off in sunny Spain at the moment. Happy birthday! Let us know what you have planned today and this weekend, and as ever, I'll see you in the comments.
Elias Skaff, does the name mean anything to anyone?
Never heard of him
According to wikipedia he is a Lebanese politician
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elias_Skaff
He's following me on Twitter which under normal circumstances wouldn't bother me, but I recognise the name, but he's protected his tweets, so I don't know who he is!
http://twitter.com/eskaff
Let me try something
grr
check this out, tony has done a fine job of manipulating the live data mclaren sent out on sunday: http://ouseful.wordpress.com/2010/03/19/f1-data-junkie-getting-started/
Hi?
That latitude and longitude could well be in the area of Lebanon assuming the North/South and East/West go that way
What's up
oh ok. how odd then. Clearly the Lebanese politician has an interest in the Feeder Series!
turns out new phone is great for everything except web browsing. The woozwoozilywoozily
There are 4 options where those numbers take you and two of them are mid Atlantic
That's not so good.
no idea what this will do to the rankings? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gkoKeNS6co
It's definitely better than working in a bank....
oooh have you not heard the track? it was floating around last week
I had no idea F1 teams used stereo lithography. That is proper sci fi. I love that process
4od to the rescue! There's some very odd stuff on there.....
The good thing about 4 OD is stuff doesn't disappear after a week
Right i think i have found a browser that will let me comment. Stupid phone. Might have to take 2 phones to the track as the 8 pages of people on the support forums with the same problem tell me that nokia wont be fixing it anytime soon.
:)
nope, news to me.
I've settled on something about "baby bible bashers" i'd say that's about as odd as it comes :P
I remember that. It's about American TV evangisilsts who are children. Really weird
i shall go find
red bull had... several machines doing that in 2008, we weren't allowed to photograph them though.
http://soundcloud.com/isaac-domenek/j-alguersuari-i-domenek-formula-sessions-vol1
enjoy!
ooooh, he's using soundcloud? coool!
Just seen it on one of the videos on the post you linked to.
no so secret then!
Indeed it is....
The process is not secret but maybe what they were making when you were there was. Either that or they are only showing the old one here
how many mins into the vid?
Wonder how many of them were at their parent's shotgun weddings?
I don't know it's finished now. Let me check
:D
i have it, it's the same machine we saw.
2 min 20 ish on the first vid
although i think they had x4 back then.
what was very interesting was the discussion about them taking the machine into the pits, and building new parts in the garage. someone breaks a wing, build a new one overnight.
I had no idea that the resin was that good. I know a mate's company uses it for prototypes and he is always saying how fragile parts made of it are but he is making very thin structures and flexing them a lot more than anything an F1 team would use.
Must be a nice little business in that for someone. Follow the F1 circus and offer a sub-contract stereo lithography service to save the teams all shipping equipment
the issue seemed to be (and don't quote me, because i don't even remember what i learned last week let alone in 2008), that the machines don't scale. so you can only create, say, a steering wheel sized object, nothing bigger.
it's the kind of thing nick wirth could've done with during testing :)
anyhow. i must sleep.
until the morn peeps.
:D
Good night
Night Mr C
The merchandise is definitely the most terrifying thing!
You don't think adults tuning in so that children can tell them how to live their lives is scarier? Or parents bringing kids up like that?
Oh yeah definitely. One of them is a properly ordained minister. His parents are in his congregation but they still have to discipline him at home if he won't do his homework....
What a bunch of screwed up people
I have to go squish my cat now, she just peepee'ed on my backpack. I'd had that thing for over 10 years (the pack, not the cat) and now it's ruined =/
This is why Nick isn't allowed a cat! A duck would never make that kind of mess....
Bodybag is usually a good cat, but you have to watch leaving luggage around. Something about it makes her go crazy to wiz on it. Go figure...
So JV did a not-too-bad job on 5-live. Anyone know where I could find an archive somewhere?
It's geo-locked
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00rd7tm/5_live_Formula_1_2010_Bahrain_Grand_Prix/
And it will disappear at the weekend as the BBC only leave programs online for a week
Thanks... Seems I am in the correct geo! Eh!
I haven't listened to it myself but people seem to have liked him. Even people who were not fans of his
He was cute. I mainly enjoy it because of my sole piece of JV related knowledge though..... :P
I just got through the recent podcast, and being of the same thinking as Mr. C, I thought I woudl try to hunt it out.
How can he be cute on radio?
Awww you completely can be!
Would you believe I am watching an episode of Pointless that I missed
Steven!!
Yes?
I'm shocked! That's all.
How can you be shocked?
I think you've lost your position as my pointless friend :(
I already warned Nick that he was going to have to watch it when he was here....
I am confused. How did that happen?
You missed an episode!?!
I only found out it was back on when you told me a couple of days ago so I missed more than one
Ah I might let you away with that then.
I'm now watching a shock-doc about the Atkins diet....
That doesn't sound like much fun.
I love stuff like that. People are so hilariously reactionary. Their misuse of figures amuses me as well.
It's making me really hungry though. I want a banana but I ate the last one earlier...
I can't imagine I would ever watch something like that. The whole diet industry is a con and they all lie
I've never been on a diet in that sense. If I were to say I was "going on a diet" I'd just mean I wanted to eat less processed food and more vegetables. I don't think that's a con.
But you are not exactly an industry. I am talking about all the books and courses etc
Oh yeah. Anyone who thinks eating nothing but maple syrup is going to be beneficial to you in any way is off their rocker....
It's like any of those faddy things. They are just a way for some con artist to make money
Can we invent a diet and go on Dragon's Den?
They would never invest in something like that.
Why? Are you suggesting they have morals? :P
They are like your religious friends they like to be seen to have morals. They know the risk of bad publicity if something goes wrong with a diet
Bed time for me.
Good night
Night Steven
Morning :D
Psssst. It's Pats Birthday today.
Don't think this had been mentioned but the choices for classic grand prix (for Australia) over on the BBC are: 1985, 1990, 1995, 2003 & 2009.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/andrewbenson/2010/03/pick_your_classic_grand_prix_r_1.html
Thanks for the heads up. Where's 1986 and 1994?
They were picked last year ;)
86: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7951474.stm
94: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7960155.stm
Good morning early birds
HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAT!!
That's alright then ;)
Franck Montagny is the latest ex-F1 guy to sign up with the Superleague Formula series. (@adamcooperf1)
looks like with Girondins Bordeaux
WHAT!?
tweet is from Adam Cooper, not sure where he got the info from. The Bordeaux info I found on French Autoblog, the article seems to include also quote from the the club boss
they must be new, there is no mention of that team on Superleague website yet
Blimey.
I don't want to follow Superleague :(
just follow Franck then :-)
Mr Alex is proper famous in Australia: http://www.getjealous.com/getjealous.php?action=showdiaryentry&diary_id=737546&go=alexjsnell
Well I guess it starts yesterday when I received a twitter from @ausgrandprix asking for my e-mail. Admittedly I was bit sceptical at first, but I'm glad I did, as they turned out to be the guys who basically organise the GP here in oz!
To cut a long story short I went to see them this morning (at the aptly named 'grand prix house') and they've offered to let me become a guest blogger on their site - sweet!
Also to Doctor Who fans, I like this ten teasers post: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/doctor-who/tubetalk/a209534/ten-teasers-for-matt-smiths-first-who-ep.html
Wibbly wobbly makes a return! Woo.
And it makes me feel better that someone independent is saying: "Matt Smith is awesome as The Doctor. He's funny, he's charming, he's clever, he is The Doctor. The episode is the perfect launch vehicle for him - daft alien threat aside - and it's both dark and comedic."
For Claire fans:
My last day in the office today before heading out to Oz on Sunday night, prepare yourselves for some serious tweeting to begin!!
http://twitter.com/ClaireVWilliams/status/10714569484
A post about Franck: http://iheartfranck.com/2010/03/19/a-superleague-debut/
Thanks Mr Wolf :)
well, I know what is expected of anybody who spots anything about Franck :-)
and more on the Franck and Superleague and the photo. So what is his name ? Franc or Frank ? two typos one page ...
http://www.superleagueformula.com/superleague/News-Media/Multimedia/Photo-Gallery/Superleague-Formula/2010-Announcements/Franc-Montagny
OMG. I was too distracted by the photo to notice. Another blog post coming up :)
Another Franck post: http://iheartfranck.com/2010/03/19/consistency-is-the-key/
Thanks Mr Wolf (again). :)
and they even have the mistake in their tags, although that can be considered consistency :-)
OMG!!!
I have just made a graph where one of the axes is 'Hammer Time'!!!
David Tennant is making an appearance, although I imagine it won't be new footage.
Hello all, how are we? I'm trying to avoid the Dr Who spoilers although it's really tempting to read everything that's coming out today. Saw the Dr about my knee, he thinks I've pulled a muscle so he's prescribed Ibruprofen, rest and peas. Brought my laptop home yesterday so working at home today, hopefully I can go back to work Monday.
I haven't read any spoilers yet, but I don't know how long that will last!
I like a Dr that prescribes peas, by the way.
Sounds like my Dad after Masters Football on saturdays ;)
Yes, we had a conversation about peas vs hot water bottles to reduce swelling, I'm not sure the medical student who was observing thought that was the sort of thing she'd be hearing!
I decided to tske credit for introduccing the two parties. yay for me
Oooh, go Amy!
that was a bit of spelling fail #stupidfridayafterworkdrinks
but they were not following each other then I tweeted this then they tweeted that
Well done you. Alex has some great pictures on his blog, I especially like the ones of the cake shop. I think if that was near me I'd have to visit every day ;)
oh my god the St Kilda cake shops are amaaaaazing. I am hoping to catch up with a friend of mine there this weekend.
Red Bull have apparently made a crashing start to their Melbourne race.
http://www.theage.com.au/sport/motorsport/webber-transport-truck-involved-in-pileup-20100319-qkyh.html?autostart=1
I can't stay away from them :(
Awww. It's tricky. If I find them, I usually have to read them, so I have been trying not to look :)
Hehe. I've signed up to a forum and I seem to spend most of my time in the spoiler area. Good thing about Moffat is he tends to keep as much as possible secret.
why are you not there doing the same thing?!
superleague?
formula?
Amy is not allowed to blog for anyone else until I get my guest post.
ahh right.
Haven't we discussed how it works before?
i like that you said there's more passing than in f1. that's almost enough to rebrand sidepodcast on the spot :)
@redbullf1spy has killed the truck crash story:
Reports of a truck crash are not true. RBR has no trucks in Oz, it was an F1 transporter involved in a small incident. Their driver's fine.
http://twitter.com/redbullf1spy/status/10717490196
There is though. And there's knockout races for prize money. And they're V12's with proper front and rear wings!
Is it like Alonso's plane crash?
...mark webber wasn't in it, it didn't crash and there was no truck.
pretty much, yeah.
LOLz!
MorningAfternoon everyone :)TFIF (Thank Franck It's Friday)
Hear, hear.
It's been such a week... And there wasn't even any F1.
I've been so busy that I have been running around like a maggot on a hot chop!
oh ok. how odd then. Clearly the Lebanese politician has an interest in the Feeder Series! {Comment #12}
Maybe he's expecting a constituent to appear in one of those feeder series, in which case your blog may be the most time-efficient way for him to keep track...
I've never been on a diet in that sense. If I were to say I was "going on a diet" I'd just mean I wanted to eat less processed food and more vegetables. I don't think that's a con. {Comment #80}
Sometimes I tell people I'm on a seafood diet. I see food and I eat it ;)
How long have Facebook had an RSS of notifications?
Hey, Mr C, you can be Claire's knight in shining armour: http://twitter.com/ClaireVWilliams/status/10719742981
You're an expert at that.
Mr Alex is proper famous in Australia: http://www.get...46&go=alexjsnell {Cmment #102}
Yay! Enjoy yourself, Alex!
@redbullf1spy has killed the truck crash story:
Reports of a truck crash are not true. RBR has no trucks in Oz, it was an F1 transporter involved in a small incident. Their driver's fine. {Comment #132}
How did I miss this one? I had no idea any F1-related lorry had been in an incident. Unfortunate the incident happened though :(
I clicked "more" 3 times and already I'm down to where I was first thing this morning. I guess it's been a bit quiet. What's this I hear about Red Bull crashing before they're at the race track? No Renaults involved I hope...... ;)
is that a case of RBR calling a spade a spade, a transporter and transporter, a truck a truck?
i think it's a case of RBR pointing the finger at bernie, isn't it?
will do.
actually, there's no feed. which might prove troublesome
hehehehe
Oh.
#damselfail
MFC post: http://mediafuturechange.com/2010/03/19/youtube-vs-viacom-the-gloves-are-off/
There is this feed: http://www.williamsf1.com/multimedia/podcasts/feed.rss
There is just nothing in it :(
have enquired: http://twitter.com/sidepodcast/status/10721845869
haha! best has tag evah.
duly huffduffed the williams podcast: http://huffduffer.com/sidepodcast/
Thank you so much for the huffduffing it's helping me keep up
am thinking i might start using it as my sole podcast feed. i don't listen to that many, and then everyone can follow what i'm following. bit of extra effort required tho.
I think people would explode if I did that :)
i know i would.
Yes! Thank you also for the Renault one.
Great idea. /me keeps.
This would be fantastic, am sure you have plenty of spare time to allow you to put in the effort ;)
Truer words were never commented before!
Morning folks.
Seems the FIA is set to stop some diffuser changes, which will affect McLaren's ideas on a new model: http://www.crash.net/f1/news/157850/1/fia_set_to_chase_diffuser_changes.html
And the AUTOSPORT link: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82234
Hello, folks. :)
Hello Jim & Journeyer, how's things?
Not bad. I feel less sick today than yesterday and I should be nearly well by the time I take the grid for tomorrows event.
I'm also getting a free transmission tomorrow for my 2010 car I'm building =)
Good good. It's the weeeeekend! :D
AMY!!!!
Are you still here?
I have just booked flights and hotel to Melbourne for the GP. I need to buy race tickets and I'm thinking Fangio stand for $399 through grandprix.com.au
Formula1.com wants $466 but I get an official F1 lanyard, ticket holder and ear plugs.
Should I go the new Webber stand for $299 through grandprix.com.au ?
It's too late at night to be making these decisions, but I am getting away with doing it a week before instead of having to make commitment ages ago. Prob paying more and missing GP advantage club though
Cue James Brown!
WAAAAUW!! GOOD GOD!!!
:D
Bruno on Bruno! http://mantovani.zip.net/arch2010-03-01_2010-03-31.html#2010_03-19_11_26_34-100063171-0
:D
Afternoon all.
Going to be in a conference call shortly with, among others, DT. Will I be able to prevent myself from slipping in the occasional GRRRRRR?
I sincerely hope not
seems that creating blackholes and the end of the universe are the least of the LHC's problems judging by this headline:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/large-hadron-collider/7480815/Large-Hardon-Collider-breaks-energy-record.html
And in case they manage to correct it, here's the screendump http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/lhc-png
If your hadron collision lasts for more than 4 hours, consult your doctor!
what are you building?
The MR2 is my 2010 SCCA STS car. Hopefully I can have it on the grid in April, the first event of the season, but this might be a pipedream right now.
Boo! The spelling police corrected it
So how are we all doing?
I have left the office. Just before the rain came!
I think you should say, "GRRRRRR, CALL YOURSELF DT? YOU HAVEN'T SAID GRRRR ONCE!!!"
It's been raining for aaaages. The April Showers came a bit early.
yayyy fridayyy
Good! Very busy, just had a chat with a drivers manager and am looking at HD Video cameras and writing lots too!
How are you alex?
Only just started here... But now it's coming down properly. Katherine will not be pleased.. She is up in town
You shouldn't have gotten rid of your snow so early :)
What rain, its lovely up here..
Hey all
Woo and indeed to a certain extent Hoo!
Sounds ace
I am very tired after a busy week where I have done lots but more things have been generated than completed so I have the distinct and sinking sensation of being backwards from where I was.
We think of it as liquid snow ;)
booooo
I knows... But it's almost over now. Hurrah!
Hey Mr G
Hellooooo home early on a Friday night :) Always nice
How are we?
Good thanks :)
I am now getting myself ready for Giggles Radio Episode H. Not, as may have been suggested by somebody - can't quite remember who ;) - Giggles Radio Episode F - Part 2...
I know that Show I will be good, especially for Christine it has a Backstreet Boys track ready selected.
I'm about to try out Lucid beta1. This might end in tears...
Oooh happy birthday Pat!
GRRRRR! Dialling in a few minutes! GRRRRRR!
Indeed happy birthday Pat!
GRRRR!
Ah yes, happy birthday Pat!
Happy birthday, Pat! :D
Hope you're having a good one Pat! Friday B-day, those are always nice =)
oh lord!
i hopes you're wearing black for this call.
It's very ... pink and apple-ish. Hm.
I has to keep the host happy.
Good point!
Ok folks, time to start heading to the airport. I'm outta here. Gotta get home, prep the car for tomorrow, squish my cat and hit the bed cause I have a long day at the track. Take care folks.
Good luck enjoy yourself :D
Enjoy it and win! ;)
adios! have fun!
One of my assignments is to blog about marketing communications of 2 events, problem is, a fellow student has found my blog and as i update my blog, he's writing the same stuff, just copying me basically. Totally undermines what I'm doing.
So. Privacy Settings FTW!
It's ridiculous. Can't you tell your faculty? You shouldn't have to close it off otherwise what's the point of having a blog in the first place?
I left a comment on the German website that published Heikki Kulta's interview - basically pointing out that there seem to be some strange coincidence between their and Heikki's article. I got a reply today. I think I will forgive them this time.
They're all listed on Blackboard too (the online student platform thingy).
They lecturers know, and says that we can learn off each other etc etc, but with 3 days until its in, it isnt learning off each other, its copying because they didnt get organised
+ the assignment is more about using the blog and being creative with the internet media, so i'll just open it up again when the hand in date closes on tuesday.
Jolly come lately!
You mean Johnny, right?
#semilurking
muchos, im not as bothered as i should be, its the last assignment of the year, the year dosent count anyway, but it is annoying when someone takes all your effort and makes it their own
just like GMM? :D
very much so actually.
:D
#sorryjonny
oi
There are timestamps on your blog posts aren't there?
#quickcheckonspcandnowgoinghome
There are, but you can set a post to publish in teh past, and it puts it up that as that day. So I could publish a post at 4th November 2009 and it would go in the right place. But you dont loose any marks for posting on the same day anyawy.
Wooooo I just got bank statement = so happy!!!
I've managed to save so hard. I only spent £50 last month (plus rent and bills obviously) and that included all my food and my petrol. It's a happy day. Off to blow it all tonight though I'm sure :P
Evening guys
Evening :)
What did they say?...
Did they apologise for plagiarism?...
WOW
Heya lukeh
Here's a piece critical of the lack of action in F1written by an AP reporter, and appearing on the MSNBC.com website. BTW, having followed F1 since the late 60's, it's a view that I share: http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/35917008/ns/sports/
If this isn't soon corrected, the fans will start to look elsewhere.
I KNOW!!! :D :D :D
I may offset your spending by buying a HD Videocamera
See I have managed this by banning internet purchase, shopping with a list and taking lunch to work with me.
Thats very impressive.
I fritter so so much money though. All of it happens while I'm at work. I'll pop out to get some lunch and next thing I know I've spent £20
I am exactly the same. It;s so annoying!
I want to pay off my overdraft by the summer so I can leave my job! I've been leaving my cards at home, carrying emergency cash only in my car and not letting myself buy anything because, at the moment, there's nothing other than food and petrol that I need.
I do think I've earned a drink tonight though :P
Definitely!
what did they say kathi?
cheers mike. surely not the bit about bernie's shortcuts being a good idea, though right?
Today I had explain to my friend who didn't like that F1 Minute was only a minute long and was expecting it to be longer, that the clue as to its length was in the podcast name :)
heheheheh!
Greetings world
Evening sir
squire
Hello Steven
have been away from the comments, have we covered the death of stefan gp?
Zoran Stefanovic’s ongoing attempts to get Stefan GP onto the F1 grid have been made rather harder by the end of his deal with Toyota Motorsport GmbH, which means that the Serbian outfit no longer has access to a completed car
http://adamcooperf1.com/2010/03/19/stefan-gps-toyota-deal-is-dead/
GOing by a quick scan of the comments I guess we know what the deal Franck signed and couldn't tell anyone about was. It will be interesting to watch that formula for a change.
Awww, thats such a shame.
Wuh-ohhhhhhhh. I guess he'll put an Engrish article onto the stefan GP website and talk of the team's great advances before slowly disappearing into the wasteland like they never happened...
gah. what a waste of a domain. i hope they didnt buy a multi year one!
This is worrying. According to the French daily sports newspaper L'Équipe Franck and the other Peugeot drivers have been a a training camp.
I hope someone hid the footballs this time
http://www.lequipe.fr/Formule1/breves2010/20100317_174008_la-preparation-des-pilotes.html
:)
you go weeks without franck news, and then he's everywhere on friday.
Friday Franck.
:D
if that catches on...
grrr, got there before me
Sounds like a great domain name...
#donttempher
am so glad she's not here to read that.
Perhaps I'll call in with the suggestion... wouldn't want her to miss out....
Christine is disconected from the internet? Will she cope?
I'm sure her built in wifi will find a suitable conenction
Evening folks,
Just in the door - how is everyone?
Hi Leigh, not too bad cheers. Yourself?
What do you mean
IF.. it's when!
Tired - just took me over two hours to get across London. On a Friday evening? No, thanks...
Right, having deleted over 700 backlogged podcasts, I'm off out! Have a good weekend folks :)
I hope yyou have done Nick's dishes before you go out enjoying yourself
Sadly no :D
*shocked*
Evening. Friday has come and gone! :)
Hi Lewis
I'm going to have no social life this weekend. German Orals and Drama Performance next week! :(
Ha, orals are soooo fun. Is it like French where you have to speak 6 sections? My Tuesday rocks. English Lit Mock followed my AS Level Maths Mock. Though if I totally fail at the Maths, I don't think I'll do the proper exam.
yes it is. :( And Tuesday is Drama day...ahh!
Upgrade from Karmic to Lucid finished. Just skype left but I think I*ll leave that to tomorrow ...
hi, thanks for the Daily mention. Just twisted ankle, ow. Giggles may like to know that the spinto band play here tomorrow, do we go?
Happy Birthday
Hey Pat, happy birthday :)
How has your day been?
He just twisted his ankle.
Happy Birthday Pat
Happy Birthday Pat W!!!!!!!!
I think go kart rental (or purchase if wealthy) should be the default present for birthdays. Of course drive days in larger machines also acceptable :P
Yet again, my 5 mins of SPC are over and I must finish getting ready for work :-(
Or even a holiday trip to say.... Australia ... at the right time of year...
Happy birthday Pat
thanks guys, quick stop, going for food, spanish eat late
w00t! happy b'day pat.
a wise choice!
Does anyone's facebook chat make this whole computer freeze when it's doing its clicking thing?
or maybe next year
yep - completely screws up my laptop
i don't get it, nothing else does it, but i can tell someones talking to me because my computer just freezes
hehe. i kind of think of skype a bit like thesims now. if you want to play you have to use windows.
#oneoflifesrules
Oooh I cant wait for Skype 2 then!
yep - sounds about right
26s into trying netbook remix and nothing works anymore. Boo!
ubuntu? karmic is fine on ours.
hahahahahah!!
I was trying Ubuntu Lucid netbook remix but that was a bit too optimistic I guess.
karmic never properly worked on my netbook so I still use jaunty and I prefer the 2 panel lay-out.
did i miss bassano posting this? http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/1-1241276800373
i'm speechless...
...that he doesn't have a guinness in his hand.
what the heck is lucid?!?
awesome!
Mind = blown
The next generation :) Lucid Lynx. The beta came out today and final release is 29th of April. Come on, keep up ;)
whaaaa.... *boom*
lucid lynx is an awesome name, even though for 30 seconds there i was convinced the text-only web browser was seeing a late resurgence!
Karun tweeting at 2am...
These guys have got to learn how to sleep....
There's no race tomorrow, let em stay awake.
He already did his 5 laps in the simulator, he's good to go.
We have a small difference in teams told to change diffusers...
All have Macca and Merc...
Some have Fezza and others FIF1 and Renault...
I wonder when we'll know for sure...
Didn't know you could simulate sleep...
Ahhhh... got it!....
I think he is trying to make us jealous
One of my assignments is to blog about marketing communications of 2 events, problem is, a fellow student has found my blog and as i update my blog, he's writing the same stuff, just copying me basically. Totally undermines what I'm doing.
So. Privacy Settings FTW! {Comment #218}
Timestamps are your friend. If your blogging platform gives a time of publication, you should be able to prove that your work is your own and your fellow student will get docked marks (and more) for plagiarism.
There are, but you can set a post to publish in teh past, and it puts it up that as that day. So I could publish a post at 4th November 2009 and it would go in the right place. But you dont loose any marks for posting on the same day anyawy. {Comment #231}
Do these blogs keep a changelog (one of mine does)? If so, then the original posting time and the point when it "moved dates" would both be visible.
gah. what a waste of a domain. i hope they didnt buy a multi year one! {Comment #260}
Stefan GP's domain expires on April 14 this year, which is really quite convenient given the site is now under reconstruction...
haha, nicely timed
Ha, orals are soooo fun. Is it like French where you have to speak 6 sections? My Tuesday rocks. English Lit Mock followed my AS Level Maths Mock. Though if I totally fail at the Maths, I don't think I'll do the proper exam. {Comment #285}
I've got an exciting weekend coming up:
Monday - Medical Word Processing followed by a class test on Miscellaneous Medical Terminology
Tuesday - Medical Audio Typing
Wednesday - Day off
Thursday - Interview with unemployment services provider
Friday - Free Practises for Australian GP (and my birthday)
Me too! (not)
Tomorrow, driving lesson and then going to get a camera and tripod
Sunday, doing a course to learn more about being a member of my church
Monday, more driving
Tuesday, driving test (aaaaaah) and handing in 2 assignments that i really wont have finished by then
Wednesday, British Formula 3, British GT media day (yaay)
Thursday, Hommeee
We have a small difference in teams told to change diffusers...
All have Macca and Merc...
Some have Fezza and others FIF1 and Renault...
I wonder when we'll know for sure... {Comment #318}
I'm 99% sure Force India will need to change because its high-reaching diffuser was its most prominent feature (the banned technique is making the gap for starting engines do double duty as a diffuser exit area). So on that basis Renault probably have to change and Ferrari doesn't. However I can't be 100% sure quite yet.
Me too! (not) {Comment #326}
I see. Hope everything goes well - and I like how the "yaay" moment is there at the end as a reward :)
that's a terribly laid back attitude from your lecturers
me too. hopefully it will to celebrate passing my driving test :)
Ferrari have made enough comments about others pushing the limits on diffusers to make me think that they were one of the first to complain to the FIA rather than being "guilty" (if that's the word) themselves
Oooh, there are so many to choose from!
For reference, BSB songs beginning with H - Hey, Mr Dj and How Did I Fall in Love With You.
I sometimes do Franck Photo Friday: http://iheartfranck.com/category/franck-photo-friday/
Well I'm off to bed now, spent the evening watching TV with the missus.
Tomorrow I get a long-overdue haircut, see my niece compete in gymnastics, have lunch with the family, slob out in the evening and talk to the Old Goats.
Sunday we help my Father-in-law move office and pick up two couches that he swapped our mini-dishwasher for ;)
Have a great weekend guys ;)
What's Oschersleben?
A German circuit, I believe?
It's in Germany. I think in the former East Germany
Mm, I never heard of it. That's not a surprise, of course :)

The website is all in German so you may need Kathi's help to understand it
http://www.motorsportarena.com/default.aspx?ID=1
The wikipedia article gives you some basic info though.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorsport_Arena_Oschersleben
Hehehe. fantastic!
Amazing, I finally have internet at home =) I've been w/out it for a month, having to use my phone to tether. Now I can finally say that I'm fully moved in to my new place.
I only remembered it because it was on a few racing games :)
Although I always confused it with Anderstop in Sweden for some reason...
Ah-ha! What an odd shaped track.
Glad to hear you are sorted
Global Fan Survey: Schumacher topped the favourite Formula One driver category. And I'm not talking about Ralf.
Thanks, now perhaps I can watch the next GP live rather than have to wait several days while my copy arrives.
The layout is a bit like Anderstorp. Of course Anderstorp had an F1 race once upon a time. The Brabham fan car won there
all so they could sell bottle opener merchandising
I did not know that former West Germany goalkeeper Toni Schumacher was allowed to entered. Well done to him.
:)
with the global fan survey, all things are possible
who won the $1k?
also, have they actually announced the results this year?
I can confirm it wasn't me
unless the cheque is in the post
Mercedes have announced the favourite Formula One driver, must have some connection with Toni Schumacher
I like Red Bull / Toro Rosso's new websites... on the odd occasion I can ever get into them
Not Tony Schumacher?
http://shoeracing.com/
Could be Don Schumacher
That reminds me. Mr C asked me to remind him that we should do another round of reviews of F1 websites. He said to remind him after the race so I guess this counts as it is after the race
I bet Battiston didn't vote for him
#footballrelatedjoke
He owns the team. Tony is the driver and surprise surprise he wins a lot
THe only way Patrick Battiston would vote for him is if he was on a jury
oooh, yes. we should do that this weekend, lemmie hassle christine, i thiunk she has words to say about mclaren!
Red Bull: Great if you like '503 Service Unavailable' screens
evening
If I had to pick one I would want to meet, it would be Ralf. Less chance of any awkwardness.
and williams
There is drag racing at Abu Dhabi today. Do they understand how many corners are on that track?
http://www.shoeracing.com/news?id=2444
There goes my weekend off. No probs.
Going by the short discussion she and I had on that recently I think it is safe to say she has clear views on the subject
I know this is belated, but Happy Birthday Pat
I wonder what Ron thinks of it
I imagine they don't let him near it. He would probably have a siezure atthe state of it
G'night guys, see you on the other side.
night Lukeh
Good night
Night mate
Aaaaaahh... back folks. I'm liking this weekend already
hello again :)
@Christine,
Just checking out the Superleague website and they have a good section on the circuits. Click the link and you get detail on each individual track
http://www.superleagueformula.com/superleague/SF-Races
Hello
Just can't stay away can you?
You know you've hit the motivation type wall when you've made a blue peter totaliser for the amount of words you've written.
ARGH
Hey RocketRedhead & Steven
How are you this evening?
nope
Leigh and Rocket. Hello.
Funny how there is never a motivation problem when it comes to making something like that
best bit of my evening :D
Cool, thank you :)
I'm good. Just reading up on the Superleague Formula now that Christine's favourite driver has signed up to race there for the season.
http://www.superleagueformula.com/
Hold on. Spurs finished second last season?! That just doesn't happen, ever.
Will you be getting to Silverstone then? There are plenty of places to hide. Or you could overcome it all by asking for an autograph?
Yeah - t'is just a shame the IRL didn't work out for Franck. Also a big shame he was taken out in turn 1 of his only race there last year
:(
I need all the experts I can get!
that is a little worrying!
The year didn't even end in a one
More worrying is Liverpool won something, like that'll happen in real life
*runs*
Or we could try and catch him this time. We might have missed out at ASI, but get a few of us there, and we could formulate a plan.....;)
I like the idea of the formula but I have never paid any attention to it. It could be some time before I am an expert. One thing I have learned though is that the outright lap record at Zolder belongs to some bloke called Franck
Christine has had the chance to speak to him at ASI and chickened out and sent Mr C
me too but its a shame its only spurs and liverpool representing the premiership!
You don't see Arsenal trying to spread the good word of racing do you.
Not sure Man United or Portsmouth will be forking out for a team any time soon
Its actually quite a shame they don't because it is the only thing we'll be able to beat them in.
Evening.
I didn't even chicken out, it was never going to happen!
The football aspect doesn't interest me at all. To me it is a bunch of drivers and teams racing in identical cars with real power. The fact the have football club livery is as important as the colour of the driver's eyes.
evening lou
true but i can't talk being a hammers fan
Hello. How is life treating you?
:D
Heya lou.
evening lou
I'm sorry...
hmm i've been shattered all today, and spent my last 2 lessons (both free periods) asleep in the common room. It's odd, i feel like i've had two days. My school day was awful, but my post-school-musical-performance part was awesome! I love my techie friends, they are so nice, and seem to have an amazing ability to make me smile and laugh/ have a good time even when i'm feeling awful. Although... the amount of red bull i have drunk today could have had something to do with it.. what about you?
sounds like you've had a busy day!
We can watch Franck live on the internet free on a stream supplied by the championship.
Did you hear that Bernie?
http://www.superleagueformula.com/superleague/SF-Experience/SF-TV/Online-broadcasting
Don't let Mr C see this page though. I don't think he could cope with the mixer envy
http://www.superleagueformula.com/superleague/SF-Experience
yep, sadly it's my last musical tomorrow :( *sob* 5 years of being a techie has been awesome :) I have a feeling we are all gonna be emotional tomorrow evening :)
YES!
Sounds like your day finished better than it started and that has to be a good thing.
O.M.G..
"Online broadcast coverage will not be restricted in any territories."
(hearts) SL
Oooohh-err, I'll be in Ireland for the Silverstone race, so at least I'll still get to catch it
:)
Just had a bounce round the SF site and it looks really good. It's still on last season which is not good but you get live feed, live timing, all the info on drivers, tracks and the car that you want. They have videos, pictures, wallpapers etc for every car(club). If any media wants broadcast quality footage they can have it.
Looks like they are doing things right.
We thought it was a bit odd that the season starts in like, two weeks, and they haven't decided where or when the season finale will be yet.
They also have a 2009 season game you can download for 15 Euro
A lot of championships do that. They may be trying to sell a franchise on the promise of a race in the club's country or something but at least it is the last round so they have time to sort it
Interesting. Let's hope they steer clear of Abu Dhabi.
i can't find the comment for the life of me, but hats off to scott woodwiss, who pointed out that he saw franck eyeing up the SLF car at autosport and reckoned the man would be driving there this year.
They really don't want to touch that place. Since they are more interested in providing racing they probably wouldn't go near it.
Looking at their calendar they are planningtwo races outside Europe next season and three the following year so since they had two Brazilian clubs last season I would not be surprised if they had a race there this year as a trail
http://www.superleagueformula.com/superleague/SF-Races
its not a bad car, its just a bit of a step down from what he's used to

haahha
wow!
right folks,
i've been trying to finish my latest post, but i'm so knackered I can barely keep my eyes open - so to bed with me.
Shall be back at some stage tomorrow
:)
and pat, ooh i'd forgotten that one. ta.
Darn, my prediction was wrong.
So little has changed.
"don't do it Franck!"
love that.
"Don't tell him, Pike."
awwww.
:D
Depends which one, I may have said he would be driving for USF1 this year.
a genuine "as predicted by..." - http://twitter.com/sidepodcast/status/10746927117
beat that benson.
:D
Everybody re-tweet and see what response we get
retweeted, but had to edit as it was too long. If only I had stayed with Pat Scott & Chris. I did enjoy checking out the F1 history with Jackie & Spenny though.
okay, time for me to sleep... night all xx
night lou.
Nighty night.
night lou
Night Lou. Hope you can sleep after all that Red Bull
night lou
Evening :)
Budget = not blown. I even got the bus home. I feel very frugal!
lou had red bull and didn't offer me any?
hey rocket, hey alison.
highcroft racing have a podcast out from sebring qualifying already??
http://www.highcroftracing.com/podcast
i've been lurking a bit!
why is it the more you need to sleep the less you can sleep?
Judging by the typing you are still sober
chrome spell check?
Sounds like she had a rough day at school then had to do her techie musical production job and was using Red Bull to keep her going
In my case it's because I think I am missing something here
Chrome?? That's Nick's territory...
Firefox. No spell check
Yeah. I had a couple of drinks, felt sick and went on the fruit juice. I had a really good night though.
because you brain is thinking about the next big thing. Every time my work sends me to London the next day (from Yorkshire, 200 miles away) I find it really difficult to sleep.
i have become addicted - been terrible this week, staying up way too late
Is there a specific reason why you don't use spell check?
Ohhh snow!!
I don't use a spell checker on the web. I'm convinced it'll only send my spelling down a slippery slope! :P
i wish i had a next big thing, unless fitting a heated towl rail counts...
Not really. I just type and post. My spelling is good. My typing is rubbish
Why are you watching snow at 2(?) am?
i can really spell towel, just can't type properly!
Anyway, night all, I must go and dream of Franck.
woah. it needs blogging, or even live streaming. its big here.
Good night
:D
trust me, if you were alex, that would be maaaaassive :)
night Christine
night
Night Christine
Night Mrs C
I'm a good speller, my fingers just don't know that
i watched a balloon once
http://qik.com/video/5037321
A likely story....
snap :D
We watched Bassano fit Alex's blind after watching Alex not fit it
They're dancing in front of my window in big beautiful flakes. It would be rude to ignore them.
:D
fitted the sink today, sorry i didn't take photos! lol!
That makes sense. Finnish snow sounds like Finnish internet
you're new. you'll figure it out and start filming things so we can watch. it's all part of the sidepodaddiction
