Hello everyone! Welcome to Sunday, and what a lovely day it is too! Can you believe it’s been just 7 days since Jenson’s epic win? I’m still recovering! I hope you’re all well today and off to fill your days with awesome things. I’m hopefully off to Brands Hatch tomorrow to see some F3 action, any lurkers/commenters going too?

Today, in the UK is Fathers day, so happy Fathers day to all the Dad’s out there (and a special one for Alex if he’s a dad yet!).

I have one F1 article for you today, could JB be the glimmer of hope for the championship battle? He thinks he could still win the title. He by all means isn’t the favourite, but I’m willing to believe anything if it means the championship battle may not be over yet!

In other F1 news, we have a brand new Aside with Joe to listen to! Many thanks to Mr C, Christine and Joe for their work on bringing us another wonderful show!

In more sports news, today is the last day before Wimbledon starts (excluding qualifying of course!). Ahead of the Championship, Djokovic is feeling confident about his chances of a win given his excellent form this season. Read more about what he said in his press conference here.

Finally in virtual sport news, RG has a post about Football manager. Ohh and talking about games, Lukeh has written about a rather special man in the world of gaming music!

I now have some rather exciting Sidepodcast tech news, which you tech savy people may already have heard about but there is now an entire neighbourhood in New York which is covered by free Wifi! How brilliant! Sidepodtrip to New York anyone?.. come on it’s beautiful

Okay, on with some fun and inspirational links!

• I know Mrs C and those who are MFC wont approve to the use of paper here, but what a wonderful and creative way to display your to do lists!

• The dear photograph project is such a brilliant idea! I think I may have to explore this theme, I must have some old photographs somewhere! What a fabulous idea though, you can see more about it here.

• Again, I only discovered this today, but how cool does this look!! Wooowww!

• Here is a rather colourful way to see a city!

• Finally I want to highlight the atlantic infocus photography section, and specifically this alarming set of photographs showing the volcanic ash and pumice from Puyehue.

That’s about it for today, do step by and say hello today, hope you’re having a wonderful day! See you in the comments!

Hello new daily, thank you for reminding me I have to actually write in my fathers day card and put it in the envelope!

    Hii Sunday.

You told me it was Saturday and now you tell me it is Sunday. Is it any wonder I don't know what day it is?

  • Lukeh18/06/2011 at 23:10

That airbus looks absolutely insane. What a brilliant concept, futuristic ideas always need plenty of holographs :)

People could do some really cool things with the Dear Photography ideas too.

No-one tells you until it is too late that one day you become the parent

JK Rowling is making an announcement next week

    http://www.youtube.com/JKRowlingAnnounces

    Huh.

  • lou18/06/2011 at 23:25

    Huh.

she isn't writing a squeal, despite what your collegues said :) . if she is she'll devalue the entire series of harry potter. it's probably a new book she's gonna build up hype for. *prays JK wouldn't be so stupid to write another one*

It's for a website called Pottermore. That really doesn't help my confusion!

Have had a look and apparently..

Her lawyer, Neil Blair, refused to reveal what the website would contain, saying only: "This is not a new Harry Potter book."

She'll shock everyone and announce she's writing a Twilight book. That'll show 'em.

oh gosh. well i've read all the books, i know the story, but i really don't care about a website about the books. the books are good enough on their own without supporting films/games/websites.. silly technological age!

I think it's more of an American shows type of thing, not many shows here seem to do them but loads over there do. Maybe it's just the way they advertise it there that makes it work I suppose but it's a bit silly having 2 or 3 minute episodes available online after an episode is aired on TV. Put it in the show!

Yeah. I think they are trying to get web traffic so they can serve ads at us. :) #cynic

Although I have a feeling a few BBC shows did it too for a while.

Scrubs used to do it a lot and The Office does still every episode. Only two of my favourites. Cheeeeeeeers american producers for being silly, even more so when you suggest it then I can't even watch it because it's region locked *shakes fist*

ahh, i've completely fallen out of love with scrubs :( but never mind. ahh that doesn't sound great tho. lucky they are only shorts, nothing massive can happen in them really can it? you can't be missing much?

No, not really. I think it's more the fact that they filmed this stuff and they just put it there as some random extra bit that could be in the episode. Maybe we're just lazy and want it all there for us easy to watch in one portion :)

  • Steven Roy18/06/2011 at 23:48

Is Scrubs still on? I haven't seen it in years

  • lou18/06/2011 at 23:49

    Noooo! How comes?

i dunno, it just seemed a bit samey after a while i suppose. I think many American series go on waaayy too long, better to end on a high after just a few series (eg Greek,) than keep it going for ever and ever and ever, especially with the length of American series, it can get slightly long winded or dull. But that's just my opinion, i know many people like the long series etc.

... having said that i watch spooks and hustle year after year and they're long running.

  • Lukeh18/06/2011 at 23:50

Is Scrubs still on? I haven't seen it in years

Nah, they stopped it a few years ago. They finished it with a brilliant finale then the network forced it to come back for ratings and it's returned with the majority of the stars not in it and a really rubbish new line up lasting for a few episodes before it was canned.

  • lou18/06/2011 at 23:50

i *think* it was cancelled? but i remember reading something about Zach Braff leaving (?!?!)

That's the problem I'm having with The Office at the moment. Absolutely love it to bits but it's on it;s 7th series just finished, Steve Carrell has pulled out, everything is getting samey, the writing is getting a bit ridiculous... I dunno. It's a blog post draft I've had sitting to be finished for a few weeks now but I can definitely empathise with your views there when American seasons go on for so long.

With the argument of spooks and hustle it must be a testament to their strength of writing or to how much you enjoy it if they can go on for 7 or 8 series as they have done so far and you find it brilliant still. On the other hand, they're 6 episodes a series compared to 20+ episodes a series in the US so there is far, far less to get repetitive from.

  • lou18/06/2011 at 23:58

Spooks will enter it's 10th series soon and i think it's strength is that it a) only relys on .. well.. really one character remaining. They regularly kill off characters giving them new story lines to open and characters to explore. When you watch Hustle on the other hand you expect the same outcome each time, yet it's how they get there that's the most fasinating bit. The early episodes of Hustle were wonderful as they used to have 'to camera' parts of the episode. Strange to look back on but i suppose it was necessary in the early series.

The same argument can be applied to Top Gear, it's great, but the early episodes are the ones we all love.

You know I've only watched the single series of Hustle but that brilliant build up to how they did it or what happened to the hustle is so well done, and it's quite clever how it never seemed to repeat itself either. Really do have to check out early series at some point though for sure.

The same argument can be applied to Top Gear, it's great, but the early episodes are the ones we all love.

That sums it up perfectly. Top Gear definitely a prime example. I mean, Series 17 or 18 starts in 2 weeks time, which is just mental!

On the plus side, it'll just keep Dave going no problem. :)

Surely the best example is The Simpsons. Seasons 3-9 were some of the greatest things television ever produced. Everything since (14 odd years worth) have 98% been dire. #notheresleeping

You should watch the rest if you get the chance. In one episode they even did exactly the same con they did in The Sting

Dunno how I missed that. Absolutely applies to The Simpsons. Honestly can't even watch a full episode of modern Simpsons now I find them that cringeworthy.

it would be completely fine if the content was still original and things but they've moved away from their original genre into entertainment now. Which i think is what's killing the programme. The early shows where they review cars (be it supercars or family hatch backs) were the best.

  • Lukeh19/06/2011 at 00:09

I never thought of it like that, as control, but I guess you're right. I almost prevent myself from thinking about it because I know I'll be so excited that I won't be able to sleep and stuff, so I just focus on the moment and packing, confirming things, and planning.

Can't you throw stuff at it

  • Kai19/06/2011 at 00:41

Can't you throw stuff at it

hehe! Oh, don't think I haven't considered it!

Looks like earplugs are the answer

  • Kai19/06/2011 at 00:43

Looks like earplugs are the answer

Yeah. I used them this morning when the thing didn't understand we had the day off and didn't need to bark at 6am like she does on weekdays.

  • Steven Roy19/06/2011 at 00:45

Do they do clocks or calendars for dogs?

  • Kai19/06/2011 at 00:45

I saw Super 8 yesterday, the new JJ Abrams film. It was good.

  • Kai19/06/2011 at 00:58

Do they do clocks or calendars for dogs?

They should. The problem is, as a dog it must be hard to do the '5 days on/2 days off' thing, or whatever anyone's schedule is, if you don't have a concept for time...or pockets to keep the calendar in.

  • Steven Roy19/06/2011 at 00:59

I am sure they learn about weeks over time. Lack of pockets is a bigger issue

  • Kai19/06/2011 at 01:00

I don't think the fact that they put this barking little thing out on their screened in porch was very thoughtful to me.

  • Steven Roy19/06/2011 at 01:02

I don't think the fact that they put this barking little thing out on their screened in porch was very thoughtful to me.

You would think it would annoy them

  • Kai19/06/2011 at 01:04

You would think it would annoy them

And they are inside, while for me the sound travels right to my window.

    Anyway, enough complaining about that.

Do you have a series there called "Outcasts"? The premiere is on BBC America right now. I'm checking it out and will report back. It's a sci fi thing.

Apparently it was rrrubbish and was canceled last year. We usually get the retreads on BBC America.

I meant I would give it a miss

I know. In the movie Office Space one guy says "It looks like you've been missing a lot of work lately" and the other guy answers "Well, I wouldn't say I've been missing it."

That film is really funny. Cult classic spoof on working in an office.

Don't have time to read all the dailys today.... but just saw Joe tweeted about the BBC dropping F1 coverage in 2013... I mentioned this during Canada or maybe Monaco in the comments and the idea was brushed aside... Joe does make note that News Corp owns the Sunday Times - and Fox of course is the rumoured buyer... Dunno... Heard via some Dr. Who 'channels' the BBC is slashing the budgets left and right.... Back to ITV?

    http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/06/19/bbc-to-drop-f1/

  • Stuart C19/06/2011 at 10:54

    Back to ITV?

Unlikely but not out of the bounds of possibility. ITV is in better financial shape than it was in 2008 when it decided to prioritise football.

The Sunday Times story reads like Murdoch trying to talk the price down: he's saying, in effect, "Well, Bernie, the BBC is going to drop it, and nobody else wants it, so you're just going to have to go away and sharpen your pencil..."

  • Nick19/06/2011 at 10:56

I would guess channel 4/5 with lots of ads and a premium show on sky sports like they do in italy and germany?

BBC got a handy reduction too as I recall, because ITV didn't want it.. may have been speculation though

I'm off to golf with Dad... hopefully any rain showers will be light.

(after I finish this cup of tea)

Loads of touring car racing today if you fancy it, ITV4, Eurosport, I think DTM is on ESPN, take your pick. And tell me later if it was any good..

Channel 4 would do a good job but I don't relish the return of ad breaks

Great rally from the Kimster.... just sorry I couldn't go.... work can be a total pain...

But 6th in final stage, 7th overall and 8th in the championship despite missing 3 of the 7 rallies so far plus he's the only one of the guys tackling Greece for the first time....

    The boy done good...

  • Lady Snowcat19/06/2011 at 12:03

It would be seriously bad to lose Beeb coverage... it was such a breath of fresh air after ITV....

Perhaps they could cut the more expensive commentators and use Mr and Mrs C....

If you think that technology is good... the baby has its own custom CMS that I wrote exclusively on my iPad while sitting with Katherine while she was stuck in the hospital.

It is neat because it allows you to take a bunch of pictures from your iphone or iPad (imported with the camera connection kit) upload them to a dropbox folder which syncs to home and to the web server and then has a an admin page that allows you to create posts from those pictures.

Very handy if you don't want the album of pictures and videos that you create of your child to rely on somebody like wordpress not going away or becoming rubbish.

They are a hard-rock/heavy metal american band.

Aren't they that very-technically-good band? I mean, they're most known for being REALLY good with the instruments they play?

Yes, they are very talented, although Mike Portnoy (drummer) has left the band.

You can search on YouTube and you'll find the castings they did to find a new one ;)

Congrats to Alex and Kat and welcome Nina

    Afternoon all.

    Hi Steven.

Yes, it seems we have a new commentator who has his own website :)

  • Lukeh19/06/2011 at 17:26

Dream Theater would be better :)

Coincedentally I deleted about 3 albums worth of their stuff off my iPod this morning. Weird.

    Not me.

I am surprised not to have seen a post on the controversy about Aston Villa's new manager

  • MartiV819/06/2011 at 17:40

Oooh, Wimbledon starts tomorrow. Who's going to volunteer to write the first post? :)

    Not me neither :(

I'll be quite busy tomorrow, and plus, I don't often watch tennis on TV :S

I am surprised not to have seen a post on the controversy about Aston Villa's new manager

People say he is not good enough for the team. I wouldn't know either way!

  • MartiV819/06/2011 at 17:41

People say he is not good enough for the team. I wouldn't know either way!

I thought you supported the team :|

  • Christine19/06/2011 at 17:41

People don't have to NOT volunteer, I'm looking for positives.

  • Lukeh19/06/2011 at 17:41

People say he is not good enough for the team. I wouldn't know either way!

The main problem is the fact he came from Aston Villa's biggest local rivals. It's like Ron Dennis joining Ferrari or something.

  • Christine19/06/2011 at 17:41

I thought you supported the team :|

They are my team, yes. Support would be pushing it.

  • MartiV819/06/2011 at 17:41

  • Steven Roy19/06/2011 at 17:45

People say he is not good enough for the team. I wouldn't know either way!

The problem is he resigned from local rivals Birmingham City by e-mail after getting them relegated. They had already signed 3 new players for next season that he wanted and the chairman was in Holland signing a 4th when he got the e-mail. He is a good manager but he has a more defensive style of play.

  • Lukeh19/06/2011 at 17:45

    That would be awesome.

I know more this year so my posts won't even be a case of 'It's day # of Wimbledon! What's a break point? What's an umpire? Do they buy the little people on the side of the pitch from a factory?'

...actually, it may still be clueless. But I have watched a lot more tennis this year so they will hopefully make more sense :)

  • Steven Roy19/06/2011 at 17:45

Now I really want Ron Dennis to join Ferrari.

That would be a slightly bigger shock

  • Lukeh19/06/2011 at 17:47

We got rained on at golf, but only briefly, then it got sunny with high winds which was most distracting. Started well, fell flat in the middle, recovered at the end and then had a Guinness at the 19th hole..

Racing was excellent. The weather was annoying, since I had to keep opening/closing it every ten minutes. Apart from that, great. Although it was insane getting out, took 90 minutes to leave car park alone... big crash just outside in Northallerton and it made me miss the start of the golf. #unhappy

    JB in a Ferrari ????

Not like the first time there is an Englishman in a Ferrari.....

Long as McLaren is crushed I say. I would still prefer Williams doing the crushing, but hey......

    JB in a Ferrari ????

i don't believe it'll happen. JB seems super settled in mclaren. 3 brilliant races in a row compared to Lewis' erm.. crashes.

Croft often has good racing (not that I saw any this year), shame about the weather though. Traffic at UK circuits is always a pain.

I new someone would have a Nina in their family

I didn't really mind the weather considering when I first went it was torrential rain all day. So this was nice and beautiful in comparison ;)

    Eeeevening :)

I saw today a story on the front of the Sun Times about the beeb dropping the F1 so it doesn't have to close BBC4. Seems an odd thing to put on the front page of all places if it wasn't more fact than fiction?

  • Jordan F119/06/2011 at 19:50

Well, I think I will see if that Indycar race is live.......

    See everyone later.

  • Steven Roy19/06/2011 at 19:51

  • Joe in Fla19/06/2011 at 19:57

There was a forum post I read earlier that disproved most of what it said, pretty much a load of nonsense I'd say.

The story isbeing run by News Corp publication and Murdoch is supposed to be trying to buy the commercial rights from CVC so they have their own agenda and want F1 on Sky

This is what annoys me with newspapers. Pretty much propaganda they want people to believe.

Unwilling to drag my phone on my runs. I know I can post my runs to facebook, wonder if I can shoot it over here. The Hooters Half-marathon would have been a great post

  • RubberGoat19/06/2011 at 20:25

Yeah I know what you mean. But I don't get many calls and I don't use my phone much for it, so I just stick it on my armband and put a podrunner mix on.

Not concerned about calls, my GPS is wrist mounted and light, so I'll stick with that. But I'll investigate posting

I've just watched Hammond Vs Moss too and it's such a good programme. Really fascinating to hear them talk about how they recovered from their crashes.

if it's anything like knitting dropping a stitch means tears.... or that could just be me.

    ... i can't knit..

Hehe. I am at the stage of basic stitch over and over at the moment. That's all I know. :)

  • Christine19/06/2011 at 22:24

It's also worth saying Mr C and I appear to be going through a good patch of podcast recording at the moment. When we get going on a subject, there's not so much editing required.

  • lou19/06/2011 at 22:27

i know nothing about crochet :( so you know more than i do! :)

My friend's mum is always crocheting and it looks so impressive.. as does my aunt (the one with the cute dog!) when she knits. She knitted a small stuffed golfer, including little knitted golfbag and clubs during 4 days away when she was the support team for my cousin's bike ride from Lands End to Folkestone. She's too good at knitting!

    ... i'll be expecting a crocheted F1 car soon Christine! :)

Depends.. only if there are special circumstances, I mean something like Bahrain counts as special circumstances and a long rain delay does as well.
