I keep it simple today. No big talking, just links.
Formula 1:
- It could have been a great Chinese weekend for Toro Rosso and Jaime Alguersuari who qualified 7th , but it all went differently as his car lost a tyre after the first pit stop. And now Toro Rosso must pay.
- Red Bull plans KERS upgrade for Turkey. Hmmm ... I rather see them race KERSless 'cause this means the others have got some chances against them.
- I love this picture. Pure joy. :-) However the cup looks odd, don't you think? Lewis' victory in China made my day. Not even the rubbish German coverage (they ask Adrian Sutil (!!!) for an "expert's (???) opinion" before each race, you know. Yeah ... do you feel with me?) was able to spoil my mood.
In football there's a lot going on right now with takeovers, Cup finals, weekday Premier League matches, awards ... so you know, have a look either at this site, or this one, or perhaps even this one. There's something for everyone of you.
Upcoming sports events this week? Newcastle host United tonight, and there are also two matches tomorrow night. Ohhhhh, BIG night in Spain as Real Madrid is playing Barcelona in the final of Copa del Rey tomorrow night. Adidas released a very funny commercial about that. Love it!
As far as I know there's no racing this weekend, though I might be wrong. Correct me, please. Did I miss something? Ah, yes! Barcelona Open to keep tennis fans well entertained.
Are there some surfers among you? If so you could enter this Air Asia competition.
I shall end up with Tweets of the Week and Amy's post on FanVision.
I am off to the gym. Howdy!
P.S. Have a great day! ;-)

RG, are you planning to continue your BBC bias series? Would love to see if they improved on their coverage in Malaysia and China.
Amanda, your post has no date on it. :D
Today is one week since I won my prize, one week closer to Korea :D
Yay for more Crayola F1!
http://jalopnik.com/#!5793153/the-2011-chinese-grand-prix-in-crayola
Morning folks,
i am happy to say that Oulton Park is back on!!
:D
Oops, i completly posted that MacBook Air comment in the wrong thread there.
No flash running at all. Its weird
Why was it off?
Had to cancel my cards for safety reasons - kind left me in a bit of a tizzy to sort travel / accommodation
Ah because you lost your wallet and then got it back?
It's a hassle but it's the right thing to do. beware though - I did it once and my bank sent me dud credit cards!
Partially - it was amazing that the taxi driver brought the cards back, but they were still out of site for two hours.
That and having my Skype account hacked via PayPal last week gave me the clue to change it.
I put some credit on as my landline is toll barred and my phone is also a skype phone - and as soon as I had, I had the option to reactivate the credit that was suspended because I hadn't used it for 6months!
Finally some details on the changes they will make at yas
http://www.thenational.ae/sport/formula-one/no-changes-needed-says-barrichello?pageCount=0
Although Rubens doesn't want them anymore!
gosh i like running :D
Yay!
Aye - whoever hacked into my Skype re-activated the automatic recharge option and charged £40 to my account. So, I just blocked my Skype account completely
:/
Anthony Davidson is a Dad? http://twitter.com/#!/BenConsty/status/60255517121064960
Didn't know that. Don't see anywhere where his wife was expecting
You did it! Woo!
Thankfully, I'm on holidays from Wednesday, so I can get in a good two days of cycling on Thursday and Friday before I start travelling again
:)
These F1 drivers with their non famous WAGS *shakes fist*
Supprised nobody mentioned it on twitter though
To be honest, I like it like that
:D
Listening to Juana Molina on iTunes, while taking it quite easy in work - this is nice. Sadly, my MacBook has to get seen to again this evening, so no Monza-trip posts for a day or two probably...
I hadn't forgotten how and I hadn't even gotten slower! My pace was exactly the same as my last run 5 weeks ago :)
I told my dad I'm probably going to do a 5K and he said 'ooh now thousands of people can watch you run like you're having a seizure.'
It's funny because it's true.
Well done - whatever you have been doing (probably lots of Grand Prix walking?) has helped then?
Aww :(
:D
Supportive!
Secretly I think he's impressed because even when I was about 6 years old I was trying to think of excuses to get out of school cross country day.
I like walking too :) I haven't been doing any more than usual though, I guess I'm just plain awesome :D
Do school's still do cross country runs or has the insurance brigade killed that off as well?
That must be it - you are running on Five Pints of Awesomeness!
I did at mine and I hated it. But then I only really took up running 18 months ago.
my school also had a yearly triathlon and I have very distinct memories of crying so I didn't have to do it one year. It didn't work.
Morning all.
Carrie used to be a press officer at Jaguar, I seem to recall.
Alex Wurz did a similar thing – his wife was PR at Benetton.
I have just realised that I can't do the 5.7km run I was going to do in October if I turn out to like this 5k jazz, because its the weekend I'm in NZ for my friends wedding. Pesky.
Morning Stuart,
How was the rally?
Have you got the sand out of your laptop yet?
I am celebrating my run by eating chocolate for dinner. Stupid Easter.
To quote Nigel Mansell: "I've got one word – one word! – very, very exciting..."
Very busy though. Lots of on-the-fly transcription to produce the stage-by-stage reports, and inevitably by the time the top 10 or so are through the leaders are ready to start another stage.
It had a tantrum on Sunday morning – screen and everything went mad. Must have been the heat and 12-hour working days. Hard reset sorted it out, though, and the doc I was working on was promptly recovered. Praise be to Jobs!
Quoting Nigel Mansell should be an Olympic sport
I can imagine the turn around for a rally must be pretty epic.
Excellent save.
Right, I'm flat out today on a certain MAGAZINE so I'd best be off. Don't forget to read this week's edition and see how many cheeky 80s pop references have been successfully delivered into print!
Audi-os.
Part 2 ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/hands-on-with-fanvisions-portable-f1-interface-part-2
Ooh yay!
See you later Alternate Mr C
runny runny bloggity bloggity http://amysrunning.posterous.com/week-5-day-1 :D
Woohoo!
and now my 'motivational mini' has stopped being mean. Stupid Nike fake person.
oh hang on, it just said 'I've turned into a couch potato'
That's still pretty mean.
My school's definition of a cross-country run was "half a mile round the interior of the village because the kids can't be trusted not to wander off and skip school otherwise"...
:D
There were still several confirmed cases of students cutting across the route (on the only short-cut available) to miss out part of the route on principle and/or have a smoking break, despite the cross-country run being so short. Unfortunately for them, the fact there was only one short-cut meant that it was easy for teachers to catch and give detention to/suspend/expel the lazy people.
Great point in this Autospost article: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90876
"As well as drivers using the DRS to overtake at the designated zone, one consequence of the straightline speed boost is that it is helping cars stay closer to each other for more of a lap - further increasing the chances of overtaking elsewhere."
Expel people for taking a shortcut on the cross country run!
I dont think i ever did mine at school, always found a way out being injured, timing or something :)
True - didn't Manipe say something similar after Australia?
Ah, his site doesnt seem to like me very much
It was in the SPC chat
Ah, i listened to that
That's what I thought. Still the naysayers prevail but it has done a brilliant job of solving the dirty air problem without making it too easy.
now that I have decided on this 5km my friend says "James says man up and do the 10 km with us"
ahahahaha no.
No, expel them for underage smoking during the cross-country run (this being one of the two reasons why the short-cut got used)...
Suddenly I like the sound of your school ;)
It probably sounds better than it was...
i'd reward everyone who takes the shortcut for showing initiative.
It's not initiative if the short-cut is well-known to students and teachers alike...
double-bluff.
How so?
Our cross country used to go up a road and then back down the same road, so we just used to get halfway and turn round as if we'd done the whole thing.
:D
Twitter might buy tweet deck http://www.marketingpilgrim.com/2011/04/twitter-to-take-tweetdeck.html
Poses a dillema as to who the Austrailan GP can blame
Twitter of course!
Holy Crap, read this comment on one of Joe's posts!
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/04/15/post-mortem-on-the-malaysian-penalties/#comment-47564
I guess he wasn't kidding when he said on the Aside that some people don't deserve an opinion :D
I had a feeling that one was going to go rotten the moment Joe tried to suggest the stewards were infalliable simply because of their position. Assuming stewards remain regular sentient beings (as opposed to, say, attaining omniscience with the title for the duration they hold it), it is inevitable they will make some mistakes and therefore inevitable that every so often people will note their belief that such a mistake has been made.
Definitely a bit heavy handed, but the original comment was also somewhat idiotic.
Unfortunately the post that prompted the comment was wrong. The commenter may have gone the wrong way about pointing this out (he should have taken a leaf out of Steven's book, for he pointed out the same error in a more civilised fashion) but the invitation had been implicitly issued.
Also true.
Will Buxton and the other journalists trapped in Russia are on a plane home :)
There's a previous comment by 'chris' attacking him, so I don't blame him actually.
In what way was the post wrong?
By asserting the stewards were always right. If they were, there'd be a) no need for an Appeals Court and b) no or few complaints from objective fans (I still struggle to find anyone outside the paddock who thinks the penalties were justified or indeed that Hamilton broke any regulations in the first place).
I don't think he is, I just think he is trying to assert that the stewards were trying to lay the ground rules under new circumstances to create consistency later on. I still disagree with the penalties though.
On re-reading, I see what you mean. But that is not how it is supposed to be done - it is supposed to be done through the regulations (saying there is a new regulation while keeping the exact wording of the old regulations and merely interpreting them differently does not count). If that is the explanation, then the stewards were wrong - and so was the FIA for not supporting them by writing the regulations to fit what the stewards had been asked to do.

Having just got in from work I have not mr SU, so thank you for sharing the new posts with me :)
Afternoon guys
It's interesting that SU is automatically a man.
I would have thought it was a woman because a) it's called Su(e) and b) it nags. :)
Boy Named Sue!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1BJfDvSITY
hehehe, fair argument :)
I love the F1 diary :D http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/columnists/simonarron/8460571/F1-diary-Chinese-grand-prix.html
We bump into Red Bull team-mates Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel in the queue – and the world champion is being pestered by an official. "You are with Formula One?" Vettel nods, but indicates that he's happy to wait in line with everyone else. The man in uniform persists: "You are Fernando Alonso?"
I thought it was in the same category as God (another occasional commenter here).
Not an official especially au fait with F1 then...
Have you seen these recent posts on sidepodcast.com?
You guys read this much? http://www.gpweek.com/ It's iPad friendly and free, apparently...
Shouldnt you know that?
Yes, I have :)
Doesn't stop Him from asking - sometimes He likes conversations and jokes ;)
How is that newsworthy?
Yep - it's the mag Manipe works on. Not sure if Peter Windsor still appears in it though
Don't say that or else people with iPads may not read it!!!
I think its owned by Sutton?
Dunno. I must admit I only skim through it. I don't have an iPad and I don't get the concept of a magazine on a PC screen, TBH.
Its good for big Ads where nobody talks about CPC or CPI!
There is an interesting feature on the WRC rally in Abu Dhabi at the back
I have not got too worked up on the penalities. I can see valid arguments for and against - I just want consistancy.
However I do have one question about Hamiltons penality - both Joe and Martin Brundle (on the BBC) reported that Lewis' warning from last year paid a part in him being awarded the penality this time.
So I have to ask.... how long does a warning last for?
Are you going to go?
Sounds like it might come to me!
I can't see any valid argument for Hamilton being penalised for something he didn't do. Nor do I see any consistency in Alonso being penalised for something Heidfeld wasn't penalised for (and just to highlight the inconsistency) Pérez was only penalised for once out of the two occasions he did it. You may argue "racing accident" with me, but there's no provision for that in the regulations and I've yet to see anyone argue that the second Pérez incident in particular was a "racing accident" in any case.
Until the end of the season in which it is issued. Which makes the stewards' behaviour even more suspect.
Then you had better go then ;)
The Rally i went to when i was back in the UK involved me walking down the track in between cars.
I dont think they would allow that here!
hmm well rally safety is a bit more lax than in F1, for example...
If that is in the rules, then it does undermine the stewards decision.
As for Alonso - I quite agree.
I wonder if this 'chris' just happens to be Craig/Chris Thompson/Tomalski, the serial spammer who has been banned from a certain MAGAZINE's web forum several times. Under one of his many handles on there he slagged Joe off royally about 18 months ago. He is also a confirmed Hamilton hater. Could be...
Ah not him again. The hype generator who never follows through with his own ideas.
Could be.
Unfortunately in this case "chris" appears to have more of a point than Joe (can't speak for the incident 18 months ago - I will assume from my dealings with him on Facebook that he was blatantly wrong). The stewards are not infalliable in the way Joe asserts, there were multiple angles shown on TV (OK, three compared to the stewards' four, but I don't see what the fourth view could have shown that the other three didn't), and Joe started being nasty before Chris did. Joe also apparently doesn't realise that it's considered dangerous to give a raw email on a public blog (the only means of contact most people have with him) because of the automated spam address harvesters (which nobody's figured out how to block effectively yet), especially when no such request had been made.
Of course, none of the foregoing excuses "chris'" method of retaliation (as I said earlier, he should have taken the classy path and written it in the style Steven used). I can see why Joe was in a foul mood corresponding with "chris" by the end but adding fire to fire generally results in more fire rather than an extinguishment.
I assumed Joe was talking about the email field you have to fill in to leave a comment, he wasn't asking him to post his email publicly
He can't be, because if there had been a blank email field the comment would never have reached moderation, let alone publication.
Have we always had to subscribe to the comments field or is that a new thing for his blog?
The comment from joe seemed to indicate the supplied email address was false.
That's always been there, for every blog that uses Wordpress comments (with the possible exception of password-protected and anonymous-comment blogs).
Oh ok - sorry for that then! ;)
Timestamps indicate it wouldn't have mattered - a lot of the conversation occurred in 22 minutes flat. Email would have been slower than commenting because emails can take up to an hour (unless it's attached to a large network such as a university, in which case 2 weeks has been recorded). It's entirely possible a valid email was given and chris had no idea the request had ever been made.
yup, we've been plugging it on the chats with manipe for about 6 months. it's good but i don't read the non-f1 stuff.
I'd say thats very unlikely, the majority of emails don't take up to an hour.
[email protected] would probably do the trick
You have too. Where is my mind today? ;)
It's OK. In any case, I suspect it will become necessary soon because I can see Joe making it a password-protected comment space because of a combination of rude commenters and inability on his part to handle relatively simple blog problems.
zinio is awesum.
You would have to have a mail server built in 1996 for it to take that long!
on a PC screen though?
damn you mr c, damn you and damn my credit card :D
She might well have ;)
i don't have an ipad, so all reading is done on a pc screen. autosport, rce, gp_ f1 racing and more.
*gp+
find this a bit random on AUTOSPORT seeing as the compeitions been around for weeks now.
I see.
it's a virtual newsagent.
oddly I can handle reading magazines on the ipad but I just can't get to grips with the Kindle app. Even with adjusting all the contrast and display settings I don't find myself immersed in the book like I do with Alistair.
that I can easily spend money in without even leaving my bed :(
That's interesting...
welcome to our world :)
In that case I seem to have been connected to a lot of mail servers built in 1996, along with a lot of other people I know. Maybe the middle of England's a bad place to send email but it is clear that instantaneous e-mail was taken for granted when e-mail is not and never has been instantaneous.
and I keep going 'ooh thats so much cheaper than on paper' and buying magazines I probably wouldn't otherwise read anyway.
plus not having anything physical left when I'm finished reading it makes me a happy bunny.
the email bounced right back then.
It makes hoarding magazines so much easier!!
a whole year of f1 racing in your pocket. yeah baby!
Having just cleaned a load of old outdated manuals out of the cupboard, I can understand this...
I feel like the three free issues of Cosmo have made me slightly dumber. Must subscribe to something intellectual next.
my ipad doesn't fit in my pocket :D
It could have been, but he should have said that if so. Bounced e-mails can be and usually are as simple as a typo (granted, "chris"'s multi-handle past makes the dodgier alternative plausible).
bah, i didn't get those. i got a free gadget mag.
Was it that one with ladies on the cover?
I don't recall what the other choices were but I don't recall me having the slightest interest in them :(
don't you think you're maybe over-analysing this just a little? who's cares, joe's blog, joe's rules.
to me "you did not have the good grace to provide a real email address" instantly reads as "my email bounced back to me"
not sure i get a choice? the magically appear.
The other thing is that sometimes e-mails do bounce off genuine addresses if the server's having trouble (these tend to be the same ones that get the hour-long e-mail arrival times).
That was what I thought, tho' obviously these things are open to multiple interpretations.
I think we are going that way. I just wanted to point out how Joe is starting to crack down on the more horrible commenters...
ahh when I joined there was four or so I could choose from to get three free issues of.
ah-ha. we signed up a few years ago, i can't remember what happened, but they only had about three mags on their books back then. free one's just seem to appear in the inbox now and then.
Does seem that there are a few people who like to get a rise out of him.
I'm being realistic. And if Joe wants to put everyone off commenting, then he's going the right way about it. But the fact he even has a comments space indicates to me that he does want to talk to other people or at least get feedback from them. At that moment "Joe's rules" have to incorporate enough civility and sense to enable that conversation. I'm seeing a distinct lack of both here, and it clearly fuelled the fire instead of cooling it (as clearly intended).
Which is what a typo, slow e-mail server or false e-mail does. Generally with the exact same error for all three (the "sorry delivery timed out" one).
maybe he does?
if you say so. i don't agree.
Agreed, and now they're settled in it's going to take some careful handling to remove the atmosphere. It's got to the point where expelling the worst offenders will probably just make people feel worse about commenting (and if he insists on doing it the way he did with chris, probably aggravate people to the point where they'll do the same in desperation to get Joe to listen to him).
There's a much quicker way of stopping everyone from commenting than his attitude. I.E:
- Turn off commenting in the blog settings
- Put up a short entry saying "I have decided to close all comments as I prefer not to deal with the abusive comments".
No need for all the passive-aggressive stuff.
I find that strange given that you've written civility and sense (albeit in more words) into Sidepodcast's rules, and abide by them yourself (to the point of telling yourself off in public when you break them, which is more than a lot of bloggers, even good ones, remember to do). That's part of the reason why Sidepodcast works - because you and Christine are nice people who encourage everyone else to be nice as well :)
might make him feel better?
anyhow, way too much micro-analysis for my liking. back later.
OK. See you later!
What a wonderful day here
:)
Same here. Or Joe looked up the email address, and found it was [email protected], and quickly did the math.
If you have a trouble maker, and you just happen to find their email address is not working.... then maybe its not a coincidense?
Oh crap *quickly changes his email from that*
I am off too. Bedtime. But it's my Friday tomorrow, hooray for short weeks :D
Changing of the guard... Afternoon everyone :)
I just had a meeting outside... I have decided that this is the way forward.
A picnic!
But... but... outside and stuff! Although it does look very blue today.
ooh, final thoughts. facebook are going to win the comments war for this very reason. i give them 3 years before complete dominance.
#youhearditherefirst
just you wait till I launch my competitor 'Spacehook'.
Yes, it will have stolen everything from facebook, but it will be red instead of blue therefore not the same.
ROFLcopter!
I would consider that if "trouble maker" didn't appear to have become Joe's default setting. Which is why I've not commented there for a couple of months.
Good afternoon!
and about space :)
Oh great, another dodgy technology takes precedence (Facebook commenting/liking is something I find relatively difficult because it frequently glitches and finding anything to comment on is really difficult).
Another Joe post has alerted me to the Pirelli Press Release area - which has info on pitstop and tyre strategies: http://www.pirelli.com/press/2011/04/17/thrilling-battles-in-china-as-tyre-strategy-is-key/
The FIA tell you who came into the pits, when and for how long, but do not tell you about tyre compounds.
I'm not on Facebook, although apparently some other people with the same name are...
Oh that is very useful
I'm on FaceBook, but I do find it both annoying at times and quite irrelevant
Right, so a certain MAGAZINE has been consigned to the printing press and it is time to go.
Audi-os...
Indeed - gonna download that from the first few races later..
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/f1-debrief-kers-drs-kfc-whatever
yay!!
yay - was wondering where that was!
I am already listening it :)
About Vettel's movements at the Malaysian GP start, it was not the first time we saw him doing waving this way, and it doesn't always work propertly for him.
I remember the 2010 German GP: Vettel (P1) waves to Alonso (P2) and Massa (P3) takes the lead. We all know what happened later.
I couldn't sleep so I somehow have managed to buy an issue of Runners World on Zinio. Oops. I also found Space Shuttle magazine!
A little oddity from Mr Nimoy

Woop woop. I ♥ my local tax office man #sorrynick
Afternoon all. Is it rankings day today and is the correct hashtag #rankings?
For this tax year or forever?
It certainly is. I'll be searching for #rankings or #points.
Just collating something and will nominate soon
Hehehe I think he's solved my student loan issue. He's going to send me lovely letters. I might see what I get on paper before I promise to love him forever eh :D
As amazing as it may sound coming from me, points off Rubens for being a grumpy grumpster #rankings
can you blame him?
LewisHamilton - Negative points for the use of the term "like white on rice"
http://twitter.com/LewisHamilton/status/59456288232448001
This is the view from my hotel at breakfast this morning! Im on it like white on rice baby!!!http://yfrog.com/gzdjkmej
For not making sense (he loves skyscrapers?)
Using U.S. slang (picked up from that woman?)
For posting it twice with 2 shortening links to the same pic
Also, for still using text speak in his tweets in general
#rankings
Will there be a return of the blah blah blah rant?
Not for being grumpy but there's no need to accuse someone of stopping on purpose! Why would he do that.... Totally ruined his own weekend.
Who'd he accuse?
He came on the radio saying Petrov should have a penalty for stopping out on track on purpose in qualy. When he'd broken down... Why on earth would he have stopped on purpose!?
I can. No need for his rudeness, silly rubens.
By the way, I find Twitter for iPhone extremely irritating for shortening yfrog's already-short links
yfrog embeds naturally in some twitter clients, the t.co links do not. Maybe that's why they do it. I hope the Tweetdeck deal falls through. They are becoming like FB :(
Although mr C makes a fair point on the debrief about the whole ordeal but I still think he was rudeness mcrudester.
Sounds like he's frustrated but yes, I agree. There's no need for it
About Button's pit stop, Christian Horner said: "We should have taken off his tyres and left him"
It would have been really curious hehe
Be as grumpy as you like but making ludicrous baseless accusations isn't really on....
It's Rubens' own fault really for normally being so nice.
When he has the hump though, it's usually a big monk-on
What he needs is a hug. Someone get me Adam Parr's number! :)
Intruiged by the news saying they're planning to stream the royal wedding online and make it interactive. Interesting situation, that.
What do YOU think Kate will say?
* I do
* I don't
* I fancy some pancakes
You can win a free trip to Jamaica if you vote!
One does
Tweetbot!
it wasn't baseless.
Twittelator rocks, I ain't moving
[though I was tempted]
Inception link shorting!
How short must they be though to be double shortened?! i.y/l or something? :)
Indeed, like you said he had a point to his little grump as Petrov had plenty of time to move off but it still seemed a bit silly of him.
Of course, you can hear more about this on the fabulous new Debrief that's available... #plugforsidepodcast ;)
for those who've not listened. petrov caused a red flag, when he could easily have made it a yellow.
I've only seen FP1 so far, so I'll keep an eye out
you're watching every session delayed??
Yep - I was a bit busy over the weekend
FP's aren't that interesting. Watch the highlights at the BBC site
Depends what you're looking for. I generally find them interesting because I enjoy the banter in the comm box - it was the same when Eurosport used to show the FP's
Fair enough, I like to listen when it's live and relevant but I struggle to pay attention when it's a re-run
Right folks - I'm off for a bit
See you later
Bye Leigh
One question: The GP2 Series will start at Turkey, won't they?
Today they were testing at the Circuit de Catalunya, at 20km of my house... Valsecchi was the fastest man.
ps. By Leigh.
http://gp2series.com/Calendar/ says yes
Also says that Maldonado won last year [stunned!]
If they use the traditional service it will be I will ;)
Hello all
Hey Janna
To Bassano:
Yes, Maldonado won last year but I think Sergio Pérez is winning their particular battle hehe.
I know a guy who says "He's got such a sponsor behind him(36M$ each year) because he has to pay the damages he does to the car"
*waves*
Evening :)
One thing, how do you reply someone by quoting his words? I click on the 'Reply' button but it doesn't seem to be this way. Could you help me?
Thanks :)
You just click on the comment if you're using the Dashboard or Realtime and it does it for you :)
Thanks :D
Huge success!
Heikki Kovalainen says on Twitter...
I have just eaten THE most delicious dinner I've ever had :D
Time to head back to work though...
Are we supposed to guess?
It was from Cook. Some kind of indonesian veg curry. I threw the box away already :P
There are enough clues in there I guess :)
I'm definitely not claiming to have cooked it! That's probably why it was so delicious :P
See you's all later :)
Ta ta
See you Alison!
One question. I've discovered Sidepodcast recently (here in Spain we don't have anything similar) and I found some shows called 'Parade Lap', but according to what I see, this show "died" in 2009.
Weren't they successfull? Because I found them really interesting :)
ps. Sorry for my english, I am not used to use it, I hope you understand :)
(hearts) kovi.
too successful. live video is prohibitively expensive for us to do right now, and the more people who tune in, the more expensive it gets.
ooh, but welcome marti, rude of me not to say hi.
I doubt the FIA (or Vettel) would have approved, but Red Bull were entitled to be rather miffed!

Which is your twitter nickname?
There is but I don't like the mobile version

I am following you.
I live in a little city near Barcelona.
Bye :)
It's quite ironic that the fastest Indian in the world (as he calls himself), Narain Karthikeyan, is the only driver in the whole F1 history who has finished a race in 23rd position...
Apart from the Indy 500 grids of the 1950s, yes. That said, the second fastest Indian isn't even on the grid right now...
Barcelona is a wonderful city :)
brining back the video version as pay-per-view, seems like the best option.
Were Karun and Narain in GP2 together?
Hi from Boston, everyone.
Got what I think is a news flash here.
http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/258039/government-unsure-over-usa-f1-budget/
Seems money barriers might be popping up in Austin, Texas.
I've checked statesman.com and kxan.com and can't find confirmation, though.
Are they better than armco and SAFER barriers?
At keeping cars from going into the crowd, YES, because they prevent race from happening in the first place. ;-)

Yes, and it is quite small compared to other important European cities :)
The good thing is that I can get at the Circuit de Catalunya, where the Spanish GP is celebrated, in less than 20 minutes hehehehe
oh dear :(
I'd probably bought it if I could, but I don't have the phone... I think it's an important detail to know.
hehe. noted.
plastic bullet is also free for two days: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/plastic-bullet-camera/id372405516?mt=8
In the Nurburgring circuit it's happening the same: The government doesn't want its tax money to be used to pay a race.
And in Barcelona's track is happening too. The Catalan Governement doesn't want to pay more than what they actually pay.
Have you got the 'Newey's Facts' app? Quite funny ^^
ooh, no. i'll check it out.
Muy buenas, MartiV8. Do you know about the Montjuïc Formula 1 street circuit, where Grands Prix took place in the '60s and '70s? A beautiful, fabulous circuit, missed much by those who remember it.
Here it is: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/newey-facts-to-go/id378065469?mt=8#
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/china-2011-rate-the-race
Casually the Circuit de Catalunya celebrated a 'Montjuïc Revival" two weeks ago, with F1 cars and motorbikes from de 70' and those years, to remember the classic Montjuïc races.
You can still drive around Montjuïc's original layout, but it's been a long time since the last race was run... It's roads are quite popular, so it's a easy place to find if you visit Barcelona :)
I see you've got a little problem to say in a number how good the Chinese race was hehe.
In twitter, I made that question to our followers (writing from F1 website account) and the average was about 10.
I am looking forward to see the way the DRS affects at countries like Monaco or Canada. I suppose in Montecarlo the DRS zone will be near the tunnel zone, so it will be interesting.
Any other suggestions for rankings gladly considered.
Christine, one little question: How did you create the Factbyte Factbox?
Erm, if you want details about code and stuff like that, you'll need Mr C. I'm in charge of content.
Thanks. Hope he can help me :)
can try. what's the question?
How did you create the Factbyte Factbox live system?
that's kind of a big question. if you mean did we buy it, then nope, i coded it with my own fair hands. it's the culmination of 18 months of work and still under heavy development on a daily basis.
Daily is pushing it.
I'm sure I just saw you taking black and white photos and eating cake. Get on with it, man.
oh yeah. *runs*
So you've done a good job :)
In the website I write we've also have a live commentary system and it took a long time to get it working propertly.
It's this one, coded in HTML: http://directo.caranddriverthef1.com/
oooh, we read that during testing, didn't we?
Just found this retweeted by Karun
http://twitpic.com/4mumyr
Really? I was the one who updated it during the Barcelona Test Days :)
"Just found this retweeted by Karun
http://twitpic.com/4mumyr"
hahaha brilliant! LOL
We watched your site every day during the tests
Well, it's not mine, it's from a company based in Valencia, I am just one of the journalists hehe.
small world! the url used to be something like: http://directo.thef1.es/tests/ - but i recall reading it and google translating on the fly.
we'll have to follow during the next race too, do you cover all sessions?
Evening all.
Not me, but we always cover all sessions live :)
Schumacher, di Resta is faster than you. Or is that just my reading of it?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90881
You mean I need another screen.
you have live timing too. i'm pretty sure the fbfb can't hold a candle to your system. very nice work.
ooh, yay!
There is some people who say Resta's talent is comparable (I don't know if that word exists) to Vettel's one. I don't know if it's true, but his debut has been quite impressive.
Certainly a promising start.
He was Vettel's team mate in Euro F3 and di Resta won the championship. They had equal equipment and equal experience. He also beat Lewis in karting occasionally.
I think diResta and Hulkenberg will end up being better than Vettel
I just can't believe the whole world are fans of his now after it took so long for him to get to F1.
I didn't create that, the company did it. I understand HTML, but tables and so on hehe. They are two different HTML codes, and then the webpage undestands them (as you see, I am an expert :P).
Anyway there is a new version coming on the way, and now that the new iPhone app has been launched it could be launched (the live version) during the Turkish GP...
Yes, he is not one of those drivers who drive a F1 car because they have a good sponsor who pays the bill. He has come to stay, but I also thought that from Hulkenberg and you see... They kick him off because of money reasons.
And now they have Maldonado, who drives F1 cars like I do in the PC game...
fab stuff. we will make sure we check it out, do ya know which sessions you are covering for turkey?
:D :D
I don't cover any session during the season, because there are two guys whose work is this. There is my boss and then another man, who covers the race because my boss is in a sports radio covering the race.
For Jenson:

Hi Pat,

What was wrong with it?
Excellent news :)

The penultimate space shuttle mission was scheduled to launch today but that was postponed a few weeks ago because of a scheduling problem where the shuttle and a Russian unmanned Progress module would have been at the ISS at the same time.
Today a new launch has been set. The space shuttle Endeavour will launch on April 29th at 3:47pm Eastern or 8:47pm UK time.

Congrats Pippa Mann on the Conquest drive for the Indy 500. I have a feeling she's a decent oval driver.
..if maybe midfield at best elsewhere
Pippa's always been better on ovals, but she has to qualify first - they're predicting between 39-42 entries
I thought they said 42 on the Indycar commentary on Sunday
It is 42 because I told @SBPopOffValve they should have Don't Panic on the timing tower..
There are 42 entries on paper, but some are dependent on sponsors coming through, so some may not happen
No... oh no

Howdy Folks!
Hi David
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/a-bumper-week-of-team-rankings-with-lotus-retaining-their-lead
How's it going today?
It was great until a few minutes ago. Things are generally fine. You?
Pretty good I finally finished the Indycar race from the weekend. I've been a bit of a slacker.
Still haven't seen it and probably won't until Thursday or Friday at this rate
what did you make of it?
Hi David
yeah, just more super.
Good, because I need a DVD writer
Hi, just popping back in, saw this thread.
Conway, who broke every bone in his body last year, comes back and wins. Inspiring. I hope Kubica does the same.
I loved the victory for Conway. I sat in Turn 4 at the 500 last year and watched his crash as it developed and thought his career was over. Long Beach marked his reemergence and arrival all at the same time. I've found myself to be a big Will Power fan and am finding Helio Castroneves to be mostly flair with no substance so I didn't enjoy the turn 1 punt. I'm wanting Graham Rahal to make an imprint on the series.
Couldn't agree more.
Gaahhhhhhhhh...!!!!
i only caught the race until bourdais was out, i love the venue though.
hmm?
If you didn't want to be spoiled you shouldn't be on the internet..
christ, the race was days ago.
That must've looked even more scary in person than it did on TV.
Power is brilliant, love his talent and dry humour with it
Then tell Joe to tell Bernie to return there.
Only 2 comments after I said I hadn't seen it though
I'm not sure if this would have been caught overseas. But during the Versus coverage of the race when Andretti runs into Bourdais he says a word that rhymes with a quacking bird at least 5 times and it wasn't edited. I couldn't believe my ears!
Specially a motorsport-focused site!
Your responsibility to leave then. Sorry but that's the convention everywhere online.
seconded.
Gosh those days before watching the LOST final were painful.
Not as painful as watching it, I might add :)
missed that completely :) :)
I disagree to be honest - I don't go spoiling the endings of movies just because they've been released to the general public, especially when I just commented that I hadn't seen it
Marco announced to the world that he didn't have a f******* clue. This came as a surprise to no-one
Haha yeah I heard. He apologised on twitter later that night, but it was good he showed emotion over it. Proved he had a half decent car and not a sled.
Marco is rarely known for having a clue
Sorry Leigh but it is unrealistic to be discussing racing on a racing site and to expect no-one to say anything about the result.
this isn't IMDB comments though. it's a motorsport site.
and one that live commented the indycar race.
we talk about motorsport a lot, and you're here quite a lot. now that's a good thing, but your odds of avoiding a massive result like that are non-existent good sir.
sorry, but that's the way it is.
If you were on a movie site you wouldn't expect everyone to be quiet while they waited for you to watch it.
hehehehe. at least he's honest about it
I must say I appreciated it as well. I want him to succeed but I'm afraid he spends more of his daddy's money then he makes for him and that the honeymoon may not last forever.
News Corp In Talks To Take Over F1 Bid (Rupert Murdock Wants It All)
via manipe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ngAX6eW_rw
Don't wanna defame him online but I have heard the 'p' word (rhymes with bunk) used to describe him...
It's one of those situations for me where I know it's true but don't fully want to believe it.
oh, i found it:
a) err, that doesn't say "don't tell me the result"
b) you seriously want us to ban all talk of sidepodcast about indycar until friday?
Didn't say that that, but to relay the winner a couple of comments later was a tad bit of doh. Never mind, it doesn't matter.
Wonder what the real story is. Is Bernie trying to divert attention from his legal problems in Germany? Is Murdoch interested in F1 so that he can bargain that away in return for the legislators allowing him to buy something he really wants?
I remember when his grampa, Mario, was young. Brash, but never a snarky attitude in public. Star quality.
True story. If you've got something you're yet to watch, you can comment or not but you do need to be aware that obviously anything can come up in conversation.
i think you have to make some sacrifices to do what you love. if you're travelling europe following F3 and doing awesome things, something else has to give. just the way of the world.
Mario was always a star and I had high hopes when he used to say that he thought Marco could cut it in F1.
True, but that isn't the point I was making.
"Marco Andretti Long Beach" top result YouTube
I thought "Don't make me laugh" when I heard that. Marco got his clock cleaned in A1 GP.
in that case, i'm not sure what it is?
I meant I laughed at Mario, not you! :-)
In any form of racing luck and skill need to come together to create a result. In my opinion he's never had much luck which sometimes says more about the driver than those around him. I have felt that at times he's showed immense skill. The last 2 years in Alabama he's been terrific. I suppose I feel he could be Indycar's Adrian Sutil.
Not to defend him but I thought he was getting better in A1GP and he seemed to go okay at Sebring for the AGR LMP team they had. But I think Jani and Prost (the younger) showed him the way at Le Mans when they shared a car.
I understood
Marco needs to get out of Daddy's team though - I don't think he'll ever be considered a threat as longer as he's under Michael's roof
Quoth Jackie Stewart: "...sports cars, where not everybody goes fast ..."
Has Rosberg declaring DRS being the greatest rule change ever been a topic of conversation already today?
Ping: http://mrschristine.com/2011/04/19/film-watch-129-easy-a/
Haven't seen it mentioned. I saw it on Autosport earlier along with Flavio declaring the new rules a success
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90883
Correction he said it was the greatest idea ever. To me who knows maybe it is but it seemed a rather bold statement to say 3 races into the season. I've loved the races this year but feel the excitement has come more from the tires than anything.
i wonder what the greatest rule change is? any takers?
We did that on a sidepodpanel
Over time I've learned not to put much stock in early-season statement. Last year after Bahrain inflamatory statements were flying, it was like a lynch mob. And it turned good in the end.
oooh. what did we conclude?
I suppose more than anything it more surprises me that Nico Rosberg is the source. I don't generally feel his horn toots too loudly.
The rule that said that Sidepodcast had to cover F1 and wasn't allowed to stop?
oh sh......
Tub impact protection.
As I've said before, he ain't his dad.
Good lord, could you imagine Nico with Keke's moustache....?
I have no idea
Then people'd stop mistaking him for L. Di Caprio.
sure?
http://chicago.metromix.com/content_image/full/844752/560/370
Yeah, we'd mistake him for Burt Reynolds instead
How about this one 6.1:
I feel that the FIA has really gone out on a limb by insisting that only points from events that have actually taken place be included. I mean you may scoff but that rule has really really changed F1 over the years why a lot of fans in arm chairs would have legitimately won championships if it hadn't been for this rule. FACT! ;)
:D
If you don't believe that is the actual rule... check here: http://argent.fia.com/web/fia-public.nsf/2E91C936598568EEC1257870003A2BAC/$FILE/1-2011 SPORTING REGULATIONS 08-03-2011.pdf
Prost was so robbed in '88
heheeheh!
ooops: here
yes, but that wording harks back to when not all Grand Prix counted to points
You mean that race I dreamt up where Petrov won doesn't count? Shocked.
I am not getting into that discussion again. There have been some very odd points dropping systems in F1
clearly the FIA anticipated christine's rankings.
Only if you can convince everyone it actually happened
:)
Early tiredness, I blame a mild cold. I think I need to veg on the sofa and watch something so I shall see you tomorrow I reckon. How to choose.. BSG or a race of something..
Peace out and feel better Pat!
Ah BSG, another one soon to drop off the ever growing list
Evening all
Re-watching S1 before I hit the others (all in a boxset I own) but it is taking a while because LoveFilm keep sending me other things :)
thanks
And there's a pre-S1 mini-series too, apparently
Hi Bassano. Did you see the A.J. video I sent?
yes, very good, recommend watching in one go (which is what the DVD is set to do anyway)
finally, finally got around to reading the daily. very bad mr c.
have to ask, have air asia gone competition crazy? they're out red bull'ing red bull. next they'll be inventing a sport.... probably featuring planes.
The AirAsia No Pro Tour is all about giving everyday surfers a chance to surf some of the world's best breaks!
I remember that one. Wasn't it the one where Massa was on the podium too and then Rob Smedley was there as the team guy and everyone was confused because Massa hadn't won he'd only come third after second placed man Franck but it turned out that Rob actually was the race engineer for all three because he was so awesome?
It's queued up on my list of tabs, thanks
The Internet needs to stop being so prolific for a short while :)
Best Air Asia competition of the year competition?
You should submit that as a guest post by the way, the build up sounds great!
Ping for Mr C
http://sidepodcast.com/post/the-end-of-qualifying
omg huuuuuge hugs!
I can't see the excerpt box but that may be because I forgot about it till I posted
I feel like I remain in the 1800's what is ping and how do you use it?
Any time someone wants to announce a new blog post they ping it by putting ping at the start of their comment. Nothing high tech about it but it means if someone wants to find new blog posts they just need to search for the word ping
Sweetness thanks!
you can just go back and add it anytime you like. if i add it for you, you'll be locked out forever.
First, you need some pixie dust at the bottom of a rainbow...
Nah, it's just a new post notification :)
That is the one. You saw it too!
But there is no excerpt box.I am happy for you to add it
Sometimes I put pingle just for fun.
My random thought of the day that i've been hiding deep down inside for far too long is do you think that Petrov holding off Alonso in Abu Dhabi had any extra motivation from when Alonso muscled Petrov out of the way at Turkey last year shredding Vitaly's tire and race in his young career. It stuck out to me and wondered if it made a mark on anyone else?
is there not one, just beneath the main post content box? you can minimise or move it around, maybe it wandered off.
I know where it normally is but it is not there. I don't know if it was there before I originally posted
I think Petrov was protecting his job and making a point
this is a bit like reading morse code, but i think it's the coolest f1 data i've seen in a while: http://www.flickr.com/photos/psychemedia/5635540605/

you'll have to write another post, just to be sure :)
i shall fix.
That would look great blown up and framed on a wall
Just set up a dummy post and no excerpt box
can you email me a screenshot when you get a moment, that's very odd.
Done
That looks like Braille sheet music
There is absolutely nothing below the main text box until the grey bar at the bottom of the page/screen
Didn't someone else have this same problem a few days ago. I think Lou but I could be wrong
Daily post access looks like seeing the ring of mordor for the first time, there's no turning back and eventually you'll turn to wordpress

didn't see anything, but next time someone asks, you're the expert. complete news to me you could even remove them.
I have one of those vague memory things again
Ask SU, I bet she knows.

I think it was Alex
:D
Thanks Kathi
Are You back in Finland Kathi or still in Iceland?
Still in Iceland and probably at least until October.
Don't laugh
SU is watching!
I thought you were just working there for a holiday period but it seems you have practically moved
And will act on what she sees
Have a glass or two of the black death for me please :)
[or was that Finnish? Regardless, it was good stuff!]
I'm not supposed to be here. I am supposed to be in Finland and finally finally graduate. I doubt that will ever happen though #Kathifail
hehe. It was Icelandic. The black stuff was Finnish
I am sure you will make it back to Finland to graduate when it is the right thing for you to do
Ah, you will
Some thought Kimi would never do it
Channel the power of Finns!
Ok, either then
But the Scnapps was mighty tasty

i've missed that too. does it have a name?
I feel the same. I seem to have been missing Kathi for ages. Probably here at different times

heh
Not a sentence I ever thought I would read.
Wow, what an interesting life!
I'm almost always here - just don't have much to say
Alright Kathi, fess up. Are you actually SU?
That's one way to look at it
me neither.
seconded. can we pass a motion to require kathi to blog?

I thought you were back at your hotel job. How do you stay awake counting all those sheep?
I second that emotion. I'd love to know more about your life. I am especially interested with my Swedish and Finnish heritage, I have such an affinity for Scandinavia and I'd love to learn more about day to day stuff. I've been to Sweden 3 times, but not to Finland yet.
Kathi I think you are more interesting than you think
That's for sure.
Hey Kai
I disagree, I think you just choose your moments :)
We could do a sidepodmeetup in Finland! Where they have the best internet!

And see the rally when we're there.

When's the Rally of Finland?
It was funny though :)
End of July
interesting....
Just so we're clear, 'long term' means not till next year, right?

hehehhee
Yeah, they're a little squeaky these days...
Well, I've always wanted to go Finland, I've always wanted to see a rally race...
And I've always wanted to have unlimited funds.
Most likely, I mean if none of you can be there, then it's not much of a meetup. It's more like Kai Goes on a Trip. Not the same.
Plus, if I go to the UK in June, that's all she wrote for travel $$ for a while.
For those who missed Palm Sunday: http://twitpic.com/4mks7n
But I am starting my own business, so....maybe the cash will be rolling right on in. :)
when in june? because there's the FoS at the end of the month.
We need to be better kidnappers
[did I say that out loud?]

hehe
No, in fact, you were so good I didn't even know I got kidnapped!
Kaissano Tours needs to get into action real quick and show these people how it's done ;)
Well, I need to see about plans in the next few days. I am looking at leaving here around the 29th or so, but I have to see about prices and SPC people's availability.
If you fly it, they will come
Kaissano!!! Yes!
Oh, we could book this tonight if we needed to. Puhlease! ;)
*he

So I can come over on June 29th and stay for a week in and around London, then maybe go to Ireland or Scotland. I have to look into this in real money terms, seeing as I have to pay with crappy little sad dollars.
I was in the pub earlier and my alarm goes off in under 5 hours.
You think?
And all I can think of is Rally Finland and not blowing Mr C's mind ;)
:)
But it's UK or Finland for me, not both this year.
That's funny - I've just read that chapter in the "Grand Prix Showdown" book I borrowed from the library.
No, one day in Finland is the equivalent to 3 in the UK [at least] in dollar terms
it was me!
